Burns to defend Lightweight crown against Beltran

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBO Lightweight champion Ricky Burns will defend his crown against Raymundo Beltran on September 7th in Scotland.

“This has always been a fight that stylistically makes sense,” said Burns promoter Eddie Hearn, who made a deal with Beltran promoter Top Rank to put the fight on. “Beltran is a hugely entertaining and tough opponent who is on a hot run and ranked impressively across the governing bodies.”

“It’s great to be back out again in Glasgow and against another tough opponent,” Burns, 30, said. “It was a tricky night against Jose, but I got myself through it like a true champion does, and I will be looking to step up a gear against Beltran, who I know will be coming to Scotland full of confidence, so it should be another great night in Glasgow.

“Raymundo is coming over to cause an upset and take the title — and it’s a chance he has earned. But there will be no mistakes from me on the night, and you’ll see the best of me in there.”

“I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time,” Beltran said. “I have been on the wrong side of some close decisions, but I have never quit on myself or my goal to be world champion. I will prepare for a long night and a hard fight.

“He is the champion, so he won’t give it to me. I have to take it from him. I am not flying across the ocean to just show up. He’s going to know that he’s in a war, and he’s going to know this was no tuneup or stay-busy fight for him.

“I have never fought easy fights. Whatever it takes to win — knockout, points, it will be a definitive for me so no one can question that I deserve to be the champion. He has had his time, and I respect him now, but the night of the fight he will get none until it’s over. Then it’s two warriors who have respect again. But he’s in for 12 rounds or less with me giving my all. This is for my family, my kids, so I can give them a good future. I’m taking them into the ring with me in my heart.”

GAMALIER RODRIGUEZ DEFENDS NABO TITLE AGAINST JORGE PAZOS AUG. 10 AT SANDS BETHLEHEM; RONALD CRUZ IN CO-FEATURE

Bethlehem, PA—It will be a classic Puerto Rico vs. Mexico showdown when Gamalier Rodriguez defends his NABO featherweight championship against Jorge Pazos in the scheduled 10-round main event Saturday evening, Aug. 10, in the Events Center of the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.

The Rodriguez-Pazos contest will be on Solo Boxeo Tecate, aired on UniMas. It headlines a seven-bout card. First live fight at 7 pm.

Rodriguez, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, will be making the first defense of the title he won May 18 when he knocked out Alicio Castaneda, of Galveston, TX, in three rounds in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.

A pro since 2006, the 26-year-old Rodriguez has a record of 21-2-3, 15 K0s. He has not lost a fight in four years, going 13-0-1, 11 K0s, in that streak.

Rodriguez (right) has boxed once in Nevada, twice in California, 10 times in the Dominican Republic and 13 times in Puerto Rico. The Aug. 10 fight will mark his East Coast debut.

Pazos, 24, of Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico, is coming off a 12-round points loss last Oct. 19 to Orlando Cruz, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, in Kissimmee, FL, for the WBO Latino featherweight championship.

A pro since 2000, Pazos has a record of 19-5-1, 13 K0s.

The Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry extends to the 10-round welterweight semifinal where Ronald Cruz, of Bethlehem
tries to get back on the winning track against Rodolfo Armenta, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Cruz, 26, has dropped back-to-back 10-round decisions to Antwone Smith, of Miami, FL, and Ray Narh, of Brooklyn, NY, after winning his first 17 fights as a pro with 12 knockouts.

He hopes to end his drought against Armenta, 28, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, who has made a career out of fighting top opposition, including seven men who were undefeated when he fought them.

Now living in Rio Rico, AZ, Armenta has compiled a 12-10-1 record with nine knockouts since turning pro in 2007.

“The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem has been showcasing world-class talent since the Events Center opened last year,” said J Russell Peltz, who is co-promoting the Aug. 10 card with Top Rank and BAM Boxing.

“Already we have had heavyweights Tomasz Adamek, Steve Cunningham and Bryant Jennings, light-heavyweight Sergey Kovalev and junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado. Now we are adding Rodriguez, Verdejo and possibly unbeaten super middleweight prospect Jesse Hart. The fights have been competitive and have been seen on NBC Sports Network and NBC-TV. We are moving forward with Solo Boxeo Tecate on UniMas. Bethlehem is a hotbed for Hispanic fight fans and August 10 should be another exciting night of boxing.”

“THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” MEDIA TOUR HITS WASHINGTON, D.C.

Floyd Mayweather
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 25, 2013) – A capacity crowd of well-over 1,000 people filled Washington, D.C.’s historic Howard Theatre on Tuesday for the second stop of the unprecedented 11-city, two-country media tour for “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO.”

Eight-Time, Five-Division World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez are in the midst of their nine-day tour to discuss their Saturday, September 14 mega-fight from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

Mayweather showed his appreciation for his strong following in D.C., signing autographs for over two hours and posing for pictures with fans.

Tickets priced at $2,000, $1,500, $1,000, $600 and $350, not including applicable service charges and taxes, with a total ticket limit of 12 per person (a limit of 10 per person at the $2,000, $1,500, $1,000 and $600 price levels and a limit of two [2] per person at the $350 price level), are on sale now. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also will be available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

The media tour continues tomorrow, Wednesday, June 26, with stops in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Chicago.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER:
“D.C. is a fight town. It’s been so kind to me in my career. The fans have supported me here since I turned pro and today’s turnout was nothing different.

“Canelo is a young, strong champ. It’s obvious he’s done something right to get to this level. He’s a guy I know I can’t overlook. When guys face Floyd Mayweather it’s a total different level. I’m pretty sure he’ll be in tip-top condition. I need to go out there and be at my best and stick to the game plan.

“To be the best you have to fight the best and Canelo is one of the best fighters out there at this particular time. That’s why this fight is called ‘THE ONE.’”

CANELO ALVAREZ:
“Everything is different…big name, clever fighter. It’s the best fighter, the best venue, the best network. Austin Trout was a good fighter, but this is different. You can see with everyone here with the fans and the media. It’s not just a fight, but a big event.

“This was the next step to get Mayweather. I’m the type of fighter that if you give me someone who is better than me, it’s motivating. It gets the real Canelo. Trout was OK. He was a good fighter, but he didn’t impose his will on me. He didn’t bring out the best Canelo. Mayweather is the guy.”

“THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO,” a 12-round fight for Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather’s WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Valvoline. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).

MATTHEW MACKLIN MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

Matthew Macklin
New York, NY (6/25/13) – Earlier this afternoon, top-rated middleweight contender and former two-time world title challenger Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin held an open media workout at The Trinity Boxing Club in downtown Manhattan ahead of his much anticipated world championship clash this SATURDAY, JUNE 29, 2013 against WBA/IBO Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The Golovkin/Macklin bout is presented by K2 Promotions and DiBella Entertainment and will be televised live on HBO beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

Macklin looked to be in tremendous shape, having kept himself just 2 lbs. over the 160 lb. limit for the past three weeks, and was all smiles and oozing with confidence ahead of the championship clash this Saturday.

Below are photos and quotes from the workout.

MATTHEW MACKLIN:

I have had a great training camp, truly the best yet in my career. I have already been on weight for three weeks.

This is my third crack at the world title, and I just cannot wait to get in there and get things going on Saturday night.

I am ready for whatever Golovkin brings on Saturday night, but let’s be honest, I am no point scorer, and neither is he. I am looking to take him out and him the same to me, so this can be nothing but a great fight.

I have done everything I have wanted in my career, except win a world championship, and on Saturday night that all changes.

LOU DIBELLA:

I have never seen Matthew look like this. I have never seen him this sharp or look in this great of shape.

People are saying Golovkin is looking past Matthew. Good luck if that’s the case. He and everyone else are going to be in for a big surprise Saturday night. Golovkin has never been in with someone like Matthew. He better be ready for Saturday night because he has a big Irish mountain in front of him that is going to make him walk through fire to keep his title.

Tickets are currently on sale and are priced at $300, $200, $90 and $45. DANIEL GEALE vs. DARREN BARKER SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 FROM REVEL CASINO-HOTEL IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ LIVE ON HBO®

daniel-geale
NEW JERSEY (June 25, 2013) – Revel Casino-Hotel, Atlantic City’s newest and largest casino resort, will proudly host the highly anticipated middleweight showdown between IBF titleholder Daniel Geale (29-1, 15KOs) and No. 6 rated contender from the UK Darren Barker (25-1, 16KOs) on August 17th. Gary Shaw Productions in association with Grange Old School Boxing, and Matchroom Boxing, will promote the event which will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

This is the first time a boxing event will take place at Revel Casino-Hotel since its grand opening in May of last year. Shaw is very excited to present the show and also the potential for bringing more events to Revel. He knows this card is an incredible opportunity to kick off boxing at the fantastically vibrant venue, Ovation Hall. Event start time is 7 p.m.

Tickets prices start at $30 and go on sale Thursday, June 27th at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com and by calling 800-745-3000. The HBO Boxing After Dark telecast will begin at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

“You know how amazing it will be to break in a venue like Revel with an HBO tripleheader,” said Shaw. “I mean that is one heck of a way to open up boxing at any kind of first class hotel and casino. We’re excited for the card, but now we get the chance to do it at a quality location. I’ve been to Revel and I can tell you that everything about this place screams boxing, action, and total entertainment.”

“Fans will feel as though this place is catering to them. The venue is set up nicely to host cards big and small, and the people associated with Revel are smart, hardworking individuals. I’m happy to be working with my good friend, Revel executive Bernie Dillon, whom I had the pleasure of doing business with when I was with the New Jersey State Athletic commission. I can’t wait to work with him and his staff. The event itself will be incredible,” Shaw continued.

Shaw’s excitement is warranted, after all the main event stands alone as a much anticipated showdown in the middleweight division and fight fans are hopeful that this showdown will produce genuine fireworks.

“This is Daniel Geale’s first time competing in the states and U.S. fans that aren’t familiar with him are in for a big treat. Daniel is a quality fighter and I think he could be the best middleweight in the division right now. He isn’t just talented; he is a fighter’s kind of fighter with intentions of making hardnosed type of dog fights. His opponent’s style meshes well and we feel like this is not just a meaningful fight in the division, but also one that fight fans can really get behind as it will be not only competitive but will set up the next big fight in the middleweight division,” Shaw said.

Geale has spoken for a couple of years about fighting in the U.S. and now he is finally making good on that promise as he gets the chance to compete on U.S. soil in front of a major television audience.

“I’m excited to be on HBO because you can’t mention boxing without HBO. I will be exposed to many U.S. fight fans for the first time in my career thanks to my promoter Gary Shaw and Grange Old School Boxing. The feeling is overwhelming. I’m excited to perform in a city that has hosted so many legends such as Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Diego Corrales just to name a few. I will do my part to live up to what past legends have accomplished,” Geale said.

Gary Shaw Productions is staging a great boxing event come August 17th and fans will be in for a real treat, especially those fans fortunate enough to be in attendance at Revel.

“Fans will get their money’s worth with this card and we will have two debuts that night: the American debut of middleweight world titlist and possibly the best fighter at 160lbs, Daniel Geale, as well as the debut of one of Atlantic City’s newest crown jewels, Revel.”

Cuban Olympic heavyweight Robert Alfonso In action Friday night in Florida

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (June 25, 2013) — Former Cuban Olympian Robert Alfonso (1-0) makes his Acquinity Sports debut this Friday evening against heavyweight Robert Dunton (9-7-1, 6 KOs) in a four-round bout on a stacked card, presented by All Star Boxing in association with Acquinity Sports, at the Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida.

The 6′ 5″, 250-pound Alfonso is now settled in Florida where he has been trained the past two months by head coach Germain Caicedo and his associate, “Irish” Micky Ward, in Miami

“Training in the same gym with quality fighters like (Juan) Guzman, (Claudio) Marrero, (Juan Carlos) Payano, (Yudel) Johnson and (Umberto) Savigne means a lot to my career,” the 26-year-old Alfonso said during a recent training break. “The training sessions are strenuous but that’s the only way to achieve results and build a successful career. Caicedo, Ward and assistant trainer Claudio Lamont give us a methodical and well-planned session for each of us in the gym. When you feel that you can’t continue training, that’s when you have to really work, running one more mile, three more minutes jumping rope, and hitting the punching bag even longer in order to achieve our objectives.

“This Friday in Kissimmee for my second pro career fight, we’re going to show all the hard work we did in training camp was the best preparation, and that’s what Denton is going to find out when we step into the ring.”

Alfonso captured a gold medal at the prestigious Pan-American Games in 2007.

“Robert Alfonso is a young man with a lot of discipline and extensive experience in international tournaments,” Caicedo commented. “Representing Cuba as an amateur boxer gave him some advantages for this fight. It is important to build his record and gradually establish him as he becomes a more mature fighter. Professional boxing is different from his amateur experience, but not in many ways. Robert just has to make some adjustments and not lose focus.”

Friday night’s show will be broadcast on Telemundo. Alfonso’s new Acquinity Sports stable-mates, pro-debuting featherweight Albert “Prince” Bell and two-time world champion Juan “Little Tyson” Guzman (33-1-1, 20 KOs), who takes on Vincente “El Loco” Mosquera (32-2-1, 17 KOs) in the 12-round main event for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Junior Welterweight title, will also be in action.

“Alfonso is a throw-back to Riddick Bowe,” Acquinity Sports Vice President Henry Rivalta added. “He fights and even looks a lot like Bowe. We’re confidence that if everything goes right, Alfonso will be world heavyweight champion someday. He has all the tools.”

TICKETS FOR FISTS OF GOLD II AT VENETIAN MACAO ON SALE NOW!

MACAO (June 25, 2013) – Tickets for the Saturday, July 27 Fists of Gold II event are on sale now. The exciting, multi-bout event at The Venetian® Macao’s CotaiArena™ features two-time Olympic gold medallist and three-time Amateur World Champion Zou Shiming returning to the ring in a flyweight matchup against Mexico’s Jesus Ortega. The spectacular fight card also features two world championship title fights – WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Estrada vs. Milan Melindo and IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich vs. Mauricio Muñoz, plus undefeated Hong Kong super flyweight Rex “The Wonder Kid” Tso in his Macao debut. Watching all the action from ringside will be Fighter of the Decade Manny Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division world champion, and former world lightweight champion Brandon Rios.

Promoted by Top Rank® and Sands China Ltd., in association with Tecate, Fists of Gold II tickets are on sale now at all CotaiTicketing™* box offices.

The fantastic night of entertainment ahead is the latest world-class sports spectacular from Sands China. The integrated resort developer’s multi-tiered entertainment strategy is aimed at diversifying Macao’s tourism economy through the varied offerings of its Cotai Strip Resorts, contributing to the city’s development into one of Asia’s top entertainment hubs and a world centre of tourism and leisure. April’s Fists of Gold event was a sold-out crowd pleaser, and was televised internationally to more than 30 countries, including to the U.S. via HBO2® and in China on CCTV5.

Fists of Gold II will once again reunite broadcasting icons Tim Ryan and Larry Merchant and former two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman for the international telecast where they will be calling the action from ringside. HBO2 will televise Fists of Gold II the same day in the U.S., beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT

Sure to make a big splash during the multi-bout night of action is the six-round super flyweight non-title matchup between Hong Kong’s Rex Tso (6-0, 4 KOs), who will risk his undefeated record when he takes on battle-tested Rusalee Samor (20-4-2, 9 KOs), from Pattani, Thailand. The 25-year-old Tso is one of Hong Kong’s most popular fighters and already world-rated No. 17 by the WBC, capturing the WBC Asia Council Continental super flyweight title last December when he knocked out the vastly more experienced Timur Shailezof in the 10th round. Tso successfully defended the title on May 28, in front of a frenzied crowd of Tso fans in Hong Kong, knocking out Wandee Singwancha in the fourth round. Samor, 29, is a former IBF Pan Pacific flyweight champion. He captured the title in 2011 via a 12-round decision victory over Ryan Tampus and successfully defended it four times during his one-year reign before losing it to Ryan Ponteras in December. He returned to the winner’s circle in his last fight, April 14, scoring an impressive fourth-round knockout of Louis Leomoli.

Zou (1-0), from Guizhou, and trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, won his professional debut April 6, via a dominant four-round unanimous decision over gritty Eleazar Valenzuela of México. One of the most popular Olympic athletes in China, Zou was his nation’s first Olympic medallist in boxing as well as its first boxing gold medallist in the World Amateur Championships and the Olympics. He signed with Arum’s Top Rank at a press conference in Beijing in January.

Moving up to the flyweight division, Zou will be graduating to a six-round bout when he faces Jesus Ortega (3-1, 2 KOs) from Hermosillo, México. A stablemate of world flyweight champion Juan Estrada, the hard-hitting Ortega is an exciting prospect who enters this fight on a roll, having won his last two fights – his most recent a third-round knockout victory against Arcadio Sanchez April 19.

In addition to Zou’s return, the event line-up includes an undercard highlighted by two 12-round world championship fights. WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Estrada (23-2, 17 KOs), of Hermosillo, México, will make the first defence of the titles he won from Brian Viloria April 6 at Fists of Gold. Estrada faces the undefeated Milan Melindo (28-0, 11 KOs), of Manadue, Philippines. Melindo, the number one contender and mandatory challenger, earned his shot at the title by knocking out once-beaten Tommy Seran in the fourth round on the April 6 card in Macao. Undefeated IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich (16-0, 8 KOs), a native of Russia, now fighting from Oxnard, Calif., makes his first title defence against No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger Mauricio Muñoz (26-3, 12 KOs), of San Juan, Argentina. Gradovich captured the world title March 1 when he dethroned defending champion Billy Dib via a split decision. Muñoz earned his title shot by defeating previously unbeaten contender Luis Franco in his last fight, October 13, 2012. The international telecast will open with a 10-round heavyweight rumble between undefeated contenders Andy Ruiz, Jr. (19-0, 13 KOs), of Mexicali, México, and Joe Hanks (21-0, 14 KOs), of Los Angeles.

The undercard also features undefeated Genesis Servania (21-0, 8 KOs), of Cebu City, Philippines, in an eight-round super bantamweight bout against Konosuke Tomiyama (23-5-1, 8 KOs), of Tokyo, Japan; Paul Fleming (18-0, 13 KOs), of Sydney, Australia, in an eight-round super featherweight bout against Chaiyong Sithsaithong (30-10-3, 21 KOs), of Sakon Nakhon, Thailand; and undefeated Dave Peñalosa (6-0, 4 KOs), from Cebu City, Philippines, in a four-round super bantamweight bout against Ngaotawan Sithsaithong (10-10-1, 5 KOs), of Bangkok, Thailand. Fleming and Peñalosa were both knockout victors at April’s Fists of Gold.

Hardy working hard in sparring with Bradley Saunders ahead of Pro-debut!

They say it takes a village to raise a child. While the 21 year old Anthony Hardy may be a full-grown man in legal terms; he is still lying out in his nursery through his beloved sport of boxing.

His main coaching staff, Peter Cope and Alan Temple has been working with him tirelessly. They hope to tweak and sharpen his impressionable style for the pro-ranks. He needs to sit down on his punches while keeping his ability to glide and sway with his punches intact.

For that, what would be better than professional boxers? Hardy has been getting top-notch sparring from boxing’s very best – this includes fellow prospect and Commonwealth/Amateur championship medalist Bradley Saunders (5-0-0 3 KO’s as a pro)! Saunders has given him more than he could handle during their merciless affairs; despite the fact it was only training this is yet another mark to the quality of Hardy as a fighter.

Please enjoy the photos below of Saunders and Hardy sparring. On July 7th at the Stadium of Light Hardy makes his professional boxing debut against Matt Seawright.

Trainer Jack gives the Loew-down on Willie Nelson vs. Luciano Cuello on HBO

ST. LOUIS (June 25, 2013) – North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super welterweight champion Willie “The Great” Nelson (20-1-1, 12 KOs) has a lot riding on the outcome of his HBO® fight debut this Saturday night against Argentinian veteran Luciano Leonel “El Principito” Cuello (32-2, 16 KOs), at MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods ® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The World Boxing Council’s (WBC) No. 3-rated Nelson fights No. 13-ranked Cuello in the HBO opener (9:45 p.m. ET/PT start) on a special triple-header, promoted by DiBella Entertainment and K2 Promotions, that is headlined by World Boxing Association (WBA) International Boxing Organization (IBO) middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26-0, 23 KOs) defending against former world title challenger Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin (29-4, 20 KOs). IBO super middleweight title-holder Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen (21-0-1, 13 KOs) faces Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales (17-0, 10 KOs) in the 10-round co-feature on HBO.

Nelson vs. Cuello is being promoted by Steve Smith’s Rumble Time Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, with whom Nelson recently resigned an exclusive three-year promotional contract.

The 6′ 4″ Nelson, who an incredible 81″ reach and only 6-percent body fat, plans to make a major statement on the network to position himself not only for return engagements on HBO, but his first world title fight as well. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is the WBC 154-pound champion, but he’s committed to a September 14th mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather. It’s highly unlikely that the Alvarez-Mayweather winner would make a risky voluntary defense against an imposing physical specimen like Nelson.

Team Nelson believes that Willie, who is also rated No. 14 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 10 by The Ring Magazine, needs to become the WBC mandatory challenger in order to get his title shot. An impressive win over Cuello could move Nelson closer to a fight against either of the fighters rated ahead of him in the WBC ratings, No. 1 Erislandy Lara and No. 2 Miguel Cotto, as well as one of the other world champions or top contenders.

“I’ve been to the top of the mountain with Kelly (Pavlik) and know how this works,” Nelson’s trainer Jack Loew said. “This fight, for Willie, is like the (Jose Luis) Zertuche fight for Kelly. It got Kelly a high-profile fight on HBO against (Edison) Miranda and that fight got him his world title fight (Jermain Taylor). With what’s been happening lately in boxing, HBO is looking for fresh faces. All Willie has to do is follow the game plan like he did in his last fight against (Michael) Medina (impressive 1st round TKO). Because of his freakish style, interesting storyline and likeable personality, Willie can be the new face on HBO.

“We’re not putting added pressure on Willie by talking about how important it is for him to win and win impressively. He understands what this fight means for his career. Willie is ready to take the next step, starting this Saturday night. He’s prepared for this moment, in and out of the ring, and he’s great shape for fight, mentally and physically.”

Cuello is the latest in a long line of outstanding Argentinian boxers such as Sergio Martinez, Lucas Matthysee and Marco Maidana. Cuello’s only career losses as a professional have been to two world champions, Alvarez (TKO6) and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (DEC10).

“Cuello doesn’t do anything special but he does nothing bad,” Loew noted. “He’s a strong fighter who comes to fight. He has decent pop but throws wild punches, looping lefts to the body and overhand rights to the head. Cuello is a lot like Medina and any fighter who comes straight at Willie is good for us. Watch for Willie’s straight right hand down the middle like he hit Medina with.”

Nelson recently announced that he is dedicating Saturday’s fight to honor the three Cleveland women – Amanda Berry,Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight – who were kidnapped, abused and held hostage for a decade until they were recently freed. Rival Boxing Gear has specially designed and made customized outfits for Willie and his corner-men – Nelson’s trunks display “Cleveland 3” – and hand-made gloves.

Tickets are currently on sale and are priced at $300, $200, $90 and $45. Tickets may be purchased online at foxwoods.com by calling the Foxwoods’ box office at 800-200-2882, or in person at the Foxwoods’ box office. Tickets may also be purchased through any Ticketmaster outlet and online at Ticketmaster.com.

Go online to www.RumbleTimePromotions.com for more information about Nelson or any of his Rumble Time Promotions stable-mates.

Los Angeles (June 24, 2013) – Team Great Britain Olympic star Anthony Ogogo will compete for the third time as a professional on July 13 at the MS3 Craven Park in Hull, live on Sky Sports on Betfair’s “The Homecoming” along with the professional debut of Olympic teammate Luke Campbell MBE.

2012 Bronze Medalist Ogogo, who will face an opponent to be named in a six-round middleweight bout, joins a top class undercard in support of the debut of Gold Medalist Campbell and unbeaten Sheffield welterweight Kell Brook facing dangerous American Carson Jones in a rematch of their epic clash last July. What Mayweather and Canelo as well as executives Leonard Ellerbe, Richard Schaefer, Oscar De La Hoya, Stephen Espinoza and Canelo’s trainer, Chepo Reynoso, said Monday:

Floyd Mayweather, Eight-Time And Five-Division World Champion

“Canelo, I appreciate you for taking this fight. Let’s give the fans what they want to see on September 14.

“Mexico has produced some legendary champions. I take my hat off to them. I respect the country of Mexico, but something I’ve always enjoyed about the sport of boxing is that my fans can’t fight for me and his fans can’t fight for him.

“I’m truly thankful to the fans, without the fans I wouldn’t be where I am.

“Golden Boy Promotions, we love working hand-in-hand with you guys. Mayweather Promotions, our company is still building. We’ve got young champions on the rise. I have to thank SHOWTIME; we’re going to do some record-breaking things. I have to thank CBS. To all the executives, I want to thank you all for believing in me and my skills.”

“I want to thank Canelo’s fans, you guys have stood behind him. He’s a true champion, a young, strong champion and he’s earned his right to be up here with me. He’s done something right to get to this level.

“I can’t wait to go out there and perform. I’m about to go to camp. Physically I’m always ready, but I’m looking for an exciting fight on September 14.

“It has truly been an amazing ride. I’m blessed to be in the sport of boxing and be at the top for 17 years.

“There’s no city like New York City. As a matter of fact, they should put a ring right here in Times Square and let us do it today.

“On September 14, all we want to do is give the fans excitement. That’s what it’s all about. I just want to give the fans a hell of a fight.

“Canelo is a young strong champion. He’s obviously done something right to be at this level. He’s a guy that I can’t overlook. I’ve got to go out there and fight the best fight.

“When guys face me, it’s a totally different level. I’m sure he’s going to be in tip top condition and give the fans a great show.

“Come September 14, it’s the best versus the best. ‘THE ONE.’ He’s a guy I know I can’t overlook, but I’ve been here before. I have a lot of experience. One thing I don’t do is play into the crowd. I understand that this is my job. I know what it takes in a fight of this magnitude and I’m going to continue to dedicate myself to my craft and be the best that I can be. I dedicated my whole life to be at the pinnacle and to face the best.

“The earth is my turf. You can put me in any ring and I’ll always come out victorious. The car won’t stop now. Let’s keep the car rolling. It’s gong to be a hell of a fight on September 14.”

Canelo Alvarez, Super Welterweight World Champion

“Good afternoon, New York. Thank you all for being here and for your support. With this fight, everybody’s going to win. In boxing everybody has their time, and this is my time. Everybody knows that Floyd’s the best without question, but it’s my time. We’re going to win.

“I’m younger and bigger, which are very important keys, but you must remember that Floyd is a very intelligent fighter, but I’m going to have the right game plan.

“Obviously, this is my biggest fight, but I’ve visualized it and I’ve prepared my mind for it for a while.

“I appreciate all the fans for all of their incredible support. I always have. I’m very gratified to be here today, to see this turnout and to have so many fans supporting for me. I’ll be ready on September 14 and give them all what they want to see.’’

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO, Mayweather Promotions

“We would like to thank each and every one of you for coming out today to support this tremendous event that we’re having on September 14. We have a young, great fighter in Canelo Alvarez who thinks that he’s ‘THE ONE’ going up against the best fighter in the world and who’s been the best fighter in the world for a number of years. He is ‘THE ONE.’

“This fight we feel will break records all over the world. The reason Floyd wanted to take this fight is because of you, the fans, and come September 14 that’s what you will get, a great, great fight.”

Richard Schaefer, CEO, Golden Boy Promotions

“Wow, New York, you did it again…huge, huge crowd here in Times Square! Since 2007, I’ve had the pleasure to work with Floyd and his team. Here in New York, we were at RockefellerPlaza, we were at the EmpireStateBuilding and now here at Times Square, but wouldn’t you agree, Floyd, that this is the best one yet?

“This is the one fight everybody wanted. The one fight everybody waited for. Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is the one…he is highest-paid one, he’s the best one, he’s the pound for pound one, he’s the one in a generation and maybe the one in a lifetime, but will he be ‘THE ONE’ at the end of September 14 or will we have the next one, the new one, Canelo Alvarez?

“Canelo is the Mexican James Dean. He has a cult-like following. He’s the one Mexico has been waiting for. He’s the one who will give Mayweather the biggest test of his career. He’s the younger one, he’s the bigger one, he is the stronger one…and he is the better looking one. Sorry Floyd, just kidding.

“The one thing I know is that September 14 the world will be watching who will be ‘THE ONE.’ Make sure if you can’t be live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas – tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster or at MGM – you watch it live on SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View.

“I want to quickly thank our sponsors, most of all Corona, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Valvoline for putting their efforts behind this great fight.

“This is without doubt the single biggest fight we have promoted. This is a record-breaker and if you have watched boxing before, I know you’ll watch this fight and if you haven’t make sure you don’t miss it September 14. The fight will be shown in movie theaters across the nation as well on over 400 screens which is something that is exclusive to Mayweather fights.”

Oscar De La Hoya, President, Golden Boy Promotions

“New York, are you ready? On September 14 we will have not a good fight, but a great fight. Floyd Mayweather, the pound-for-pound champion of the world against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez who is Mexico’s biggest sports figure and Mexico’s biggest icon.”

Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

“At SHOWTIME our goal is very simple: we want to bring you the most exciting, the most action-packed fights with boxing’s biggest stars. That’s exactly what SHOWTIME has become known for. In just the last few weeks, SHOWTIME has brought you Alfredo Angulo, Josesito Lopez, Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia, Peter Quillin, Adrien Broner and Amir Khan. Now, SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View is bringing you the two biggest stars in the sport, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez.

“SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View is proud to be bringing you, ‘THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo,’ the one fight you’ve all been waiting for. In every sport, there are certain, rare occasions when you have the best against the best. The Super Bowl, The Final Four, College Football’s National Championship…September 14 will be one of those occasions with the two biggest stars in the sport and the two biggest fan bases. We have America’s number one fighter versus Mexico’s number one fighter. We have the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the sport versus the number one new star in the sport.

“This is a must-see event and as usual SHOWTIME and SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View will be there every step of the way. From today’s press conference that is being streamed on SHOWTIME’s website to all the other remaining stops on the tour, make sure you check out SHOWTIME’s website for daily updates. As usual, ALL ACCESS will take you behind the scenes and we will be announcing the schedule for ALL ACCESS very shortly. We will see you all on September 14.”

Jose “Chepo” Reynoso, Manager of Canelo

“I just want to say we are ready for this fight. Canelo is going to train like he always does. Viva Mexico!”

Abdusalamov Offers 80/20 to Haye, Fury and/or Mitchell: Negotiations Over. Let’s Fight!

Reading the back and forth on Twitter between David Haye and Tyson Fury about purse splits to face each other, WBC #4 rated heavyweight contender Magomed “Mago” Abdusalamov (18-0, 18 KOs) has an easy deal to offer the #5, 6 and 7 contenders in his division.

“I’ll take an 80/20 purse split and I will take the 20% to fight either David Haye, Tyson Fury or Seth Mitchell,” says the Russian powerhouse. “In fact, says Abdusalamov, if I lose, I will give them my 20% and I will walk away happy, knowing I don’t deserve my ranking in the WBC.”

Abdusalamov, a pulverizing puncher who has dispatched all 18 of his professional opponents says he’s willing to forego all the negotiating and posturing being done between the fighters and offer his lower-rated counterparts a chance at a lucrative heavyweight showdown.

“David Haye says he’s having trouble getting Tyson Fury in a ring. He’ll have no trouble with me and he can take the lion’s share of the money. I am the future of heavyweight boxing and I’ll fight anyone to prove it.”

Abdusalamov’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing, says his phone is fully charged and waiting for a call.

“Mago fears no one. Instead of arguing about money, we are offering them a fight with a higher-rated fighter in the WBC and they can take most of the money. ESPN FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS RETURNS TO HISTORIC ROCKINGHAM PARK IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WITH CAN’T-MISS CARD FEATURING AJOSE OLUSEGUN VS. HANK LUNDY IN MAIN EVENT

hank-lundy_harney
New York, NY (6/24/13) – On July 19, ESPN’s Friday Night Fights returns to the historic 107-year-old Rockingham Park in New Hampshire, with a scintillating main event featuring WBC #3-rated junior welterweight Ajose Olusegun (31-1, 18KO’s) taking on longtime lightweight contender “Hammerin'” Hank Lundy (23-1-1, 11KO’s). The bout, promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment, is scheduled for 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division.

In the co-feature bout, undefeated up-and-coming prospects Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczweski (16-0, 3KO’s) and Miguel “Mikito” Soto (11-0, 11KO’s) put their unblemished records on the line in an eight-round super featherweight showdown. The Kielczweski-Soto bout is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Rumble Time Promotions.

“This fight is a great opportunity for both of us to show the world just how good we are,” said Olusegun. “It is going to be a fire-for-fire fight, an exciting one that the boxing fans want to see. I am excited and I can’t wait to put on a great performance.”

“We know all about Ajose,” said Hank Lundy. “I was supposed to fight Lucas Matthysse, but that fell through. I thought I would’ve beaten Matthysse. Ajose fought him and we all saw what happened. This fight is going to be a good win for me. I’m coming to win. I’m coming off an upset loss in the Ukraine. I actually won the fight. I know what’s going on now; I’m moving up to 140, so everyone thinks I’m going to be the smaller guy. Come fight night, they’re going to see a new Hank Lundy. I started my career at 140 pounds. At 140, I’m actually stronger, more powerful. I was killing my body to make 135 pounds, coming down from 160. I’m a muscular guy. I don’t have a lot of body fat. I’m going to be a powerhouse and I’m going to display some of my punching power that night.”

“This is an absolutely fantastic card for ESPN,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “In the main event, you have two proven contenders, with the winner taking a major step toward challenging for a world championship in the loaded 140lb. division. In the co-feature, you have two undefeated prospects, taking a major step up in their respective careers. We are also going to load the undercard with local talent, making this a truly action-packed card from top to bottom.”

“There’s nothing Hank Lundy wants more in life than to be a world champion, and in order to do so, he realizes that he needs to fight the biggest and the best in his weight class,” said Lundy’s promoter, Jimmy Burchfield. “No fighter between 135 and 140 pounds has a more impressive resume than Lundy. Not only is he facing elite competition every time he steps into the ring, he’s going to other fighters’ backyards and winning against all odds. He’s grown up before our eyes in front of millions of homes worldwide on ESPN. Since 2010, the combined record of his opponents is a staggering 187-16-3. I challenge anyone to find a fighter who has put himself to the test and faced tougher competition than Hank Lundy. Not only does he have the heart, guts and determination to fight anyone at any given time, he’s as fan-friendly as any fighter in this sport. He gets knocked down, he gets back up and then he knocks you out. He’s exactly what TV is looking for and exactly what boxing needs. He always comes to fight and always puts on a show. July 19 will be no exception.”

“Coming off two consecutive loses, junior welterweight contender Hank Lundy is in danger of becoming irrelevant. He will need his good speed and great urgency to beat a bigger, more physical south paw opponent, Ajose Olusegun. That’s the tough news for Lundy. The good news for the fans of Friday Night Fights is that both these experienced fighters are not hard to find-they will be right in front of each other all night and that should make it a good night of fights,” said esteemed ESPN Friday Night Fights ringside analyst, Teddy Atlas.

Ed Callahan, the President and General Manager of Rockingham Park, said, “We are very pleased to be able to bring quality boxing back to the NH area. We look forward to working with DiBella Entertainment and ESPN again in providing a great show.”

The matchup between Olusegun and Lundy is a can’t-miss fight, featuring two all-action fighters. The WBC #3-rated Olusegun is certainly one of the most talented and exciting 140-pounders in the world. A 2000 Olympian for his native Nigeria, Olusegun has held Commonwealth and British junior welterweight titles.

Olusegun won a dominant, near shut-out 12-round unanimous decision over Ali Chebah (35-1) on Showtime in 2011, in an official WBC junior welterweight title eliminator. The win propelled Olusegun into his first world title opportunity, as he squared off against fellow top-rated contender, and one of the most devastating punchers pound-for-pound in the sport today, Lucas Matthysse.

In an all-out war, Olusegun was stopped in the 10th-round of their scheduled 12-round championship contest. From the opening bell, both fighters stood toe-to-toe, exchanging monstrous blows for nearly every second of every round.

Showtime commentator Al Bernstein, who was calling the bout, proclaimed Olusegun to be one of the top three junior welterweights in the world, and commended him on his warrior performance against the devastating and feared puncher Matthysse.

Olusegun bounced back from the loss with an eight-round unanimous decision victory in April of this year, and is now looking to put himself back into title contention in the talent-laden 140lb. division.

A longtime staple on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, Lundy began his career 18-0-1, claiming the WBO NABO lightweight title and gaining a top-10 rating in all four major sanctioning bodies. A title shot was looming, but then Lundy suffered his first pro defeat at the hands of knockout artist John Molina in a bout aired on ESPN. Lundy was winning the bout handily, before being stopped in the 11th round.

Lundy bounced back nicely from the defeat, winning his next four bouts, all of which were aired on ESPN and picking up the NABF title in the process. On July 27, 2012, in an upset, Lundy lost his NABF title, via majority decision, to IBF #3, WBC #6 and WBO #8-rated Raymundo Beltran.

After the loss to Beltran, Lundy decided to move up in weight. In his first bout as a junior welterweight, Lundy traveled into enemy territory to take on the undefeated Ukrainian Victor Postal (23-0), ultimately dropping a close 12-round decision in Postal’s backyard for the vacant WBC International junior welterweight title. Now Lundy is hoping to get back to his winning ways when he takes on the very talented Nigerian Olusegun.

The co-feature matchup pits two young undefeated and highly regarded up-and-coming prospects looking to make the transition to legitimate contender status in the division.

Both fighters have similar styles and will have their foot on the gas as soon as the opening bell sounds. Soto is a devastating puncher and has the ability to knock you out with either hand. Despite his low KO ratio, Kielczweski is an aggressive fighter who loves to mix it up, easily throwing upward of 100 punches per round.

Kielczweski had a stellar amateur career, sporting a 118-26 record, as well as being the runner-up in the 2008 National Golden Gloves Tournament. Kielczweski won both the 2007 and 2008 New England Golden Gloves Tournaments, and was named the ‘Outstanding Boxer’ in 2008.

The event on July 19 will be the first ESPN Friday Night Fights card at the historic Park since 2007 and third ever in its long history.

Tickets are priced at $75 VIP reserved, $45 reserved and $35 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased by calling 603-898-2311 and will be on sale later this week.

Mayweather, who usually campaigns at 147 pounds, chose the younger and bigger Canelo as his opponent for the second bout of his new contract with Showtime Networks Inc. and its parent company, CBS Corporation.

“I picked Canelo because he deserves the chance and is the best opponent possible for me at this time,” said Mayweather, who is coming off of a near shutout win on May 4 over Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion Robert Guerrero. “When I signed my new deal with Showtime and CBS, I said I was going to stay active and fight the best fighters and I am keeping my word. I looked at several different fighters and decided to pick Canelo because he can give me a great fight and one the fans are going to appreciate. Sure it’s a risk to fight a guy that is younger and bigger than me, but I love taking risks. Be ready because I’m in fantastic shape and I’m going to train even harder for this fight than I did for my last one. He might be a big, young, strong and talented champion, but my experience and work ethic make me believe that I’m that much better and no one in boxing can beat me right now.”

Canelo is coming off of a unanimous decision win over then WBA World Champion Austin Trout in front of a sold-out crowd of nearly 40,000 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on April 20. The young champion has been soliciting to fight Mayweather for some time and is excited to challenge boxing’s best fighter in what could be a career-defining fight for the Mexican superstar.

“I’m ready for the big challenges and now I have to prove it against Floyd Mayweather on September 14,” said Canelo. “I said that I wanted to fight the best and here I am in front of the best pound-for-pound fighter, who I respect for his achievements, but on September 14, I will write a new page in boxing history because I’m going to be victorious. This fight is for all of my fans, my family and of course for Mexico because we’re fighting on the weekend of Mexico’s Independence. I’ve waited so long for this and my only option is to WIN!”

“It’s a done deal and I commend Floyd for selecting Canelo Alvarez as his next challenge,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO Mayweather Promotions. “Floyd is a great champion who has earned the right to control the destiny of his career. To select a young, strong and bigger opponent in Canelo, who has proven he is at the championship level with his success to date, is just another indication of Floyd’s love for the sport and the fans that embrace him every time he steps in the ring. It’s his legacy on the line September 14 and I have no doubt that he will be victorious again.”

“This is THE ONE. The one fight everyone wants to see as Mayweather is the best ONE ever and no ONE has ever been able to find a way to beat him,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Will he stay undefeated or will Canelo be the first ONE to beat him? My hat goes off to Floyd for accepting the challenge of a young, strong and undefeated fighter like Canelo and my hat goes off to Canelo for agreeing to fight the best fighter in the world. These are modern day gladiators who know how to entertain and on September 14, the world will stop and watch to see who will be THE ONE! Mayweather vs. Canelo is without doubt ONE of the biggest boxing events of all-time.”

“The response to the announcement of this event, from all corners of sports and entertainment, has been overwhelming,” said Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “It’s a natural response when the two most skilled and most popular athletes in a sport face off against each other. I commend both Floyd and Canelo for making the best fight possible. Neither man ever waivered in their desire to give the fans what they’ve been clamoring for.”

“We look forward to hosting one of the biggest boxing events in recent years over Mexican Independence Day weekend,” said Richard Sturm, president of sports and entertainment for MGM Resorts International. “These two undefeated athletes will put on a spectacular show, guaranteeing boxing fans a thrilling, action-packed night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.”

Undefeated Floyd “Money” Mayweather, (44-0, 26 KO’s), an eight-time world champion in five weight divisions, remains boxing’s biggest attraction, wowing crowds and generating remarkable pay-per-view numbers every time he steps into the ring. During Mayweather’s already extraordinary career, he has amassed wins over world champions including Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, Miguel Cotto and most recently Robert Guerrero, marking the 44th win of his storied career. Over the course of his participation in pay-per-view events Mayweather has generated more than 10.6 million buys and nearly $650 million in pay-per-view revenue. He averages more than one million pay-per-view buys per event, the highest pay-per-view buy average of any boxer in history. Mayweather, the world’s highest paid athlete in any sport (Sports Illustrated, 2013), co-headlined the single biggest pay-per-view boxing event in history when he fought Oscar De La Hoya in 2007. In addition, Mayweather has appeared in the sport’s four biggest non-heavyweight pay-per-view events.

At only 22 years of age, the pride of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) has emerged as a Mexican icon, standing side-by-side with his country’s greatest sporting legends. His fights on Mexican television network Televisa routinely garner record ratings. In Sept. 2012, Canelo set a new ratings record for boxing on SHOWTIME in his first bout on the network. A fighting phenom, Canelo has fought professionally since 2005 when he was only 15 years old. The powerful puncher tore through all comers on the local circuit in Mexico before winning the NABF welterweight title in 2009. He then began his attack on the international boxing scene. In 2010, Canelo had a breakout year with victories over Jose Miguel Cotto, Luciano Cuello and former World Champions Carlos Baldomir and Lovemore N’dou. By 2011, he earned his first world championship by defeating Matthew Hatton for the WBC Super Welterweight World Championship. Canelo has since defended his title successfully six times defeating Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, Sugar Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez and, most recently, with a spirited unanimous decision win over Austin Trout, setting up his fight against Mayweather.

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGNS BROOKLYN’S UNBEATEN 2008 U.S. OLYMPIAN SADAM “WORLD KID” ALI

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, June 22 – A member of the 2008 United States Olympic team and a young man considered a legitimate contender for world title honors in the coming years, Brooklyn welterweight Sadam Ali is now the latest member of the star-studded Golden Boy Promotions roster, having signed an exclusive promotional agreement with the Los Angeles-based promoter.

“This is the biggest moment of my professional boxing career, but not the last big moment,” said Ali. “Golden Boy Promotions is the top promoter in the game today and I waited for this day for a long time. Now the next step is fighting the best and winning a world title.”

“We’ve watched Sadam develop over the years and he’s without a doubt a young man with the potential to win several world titles,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “He brings excitement in the ring and has a huge fan following. We’re confident that he has the tools to become a star on both the local level fighting in his hometown of Brooklyn at Barclays Center as well as around the world.”

A decorated amateur boxer who was a Junior Olympic, PAL, and Under-19 National Champion as well as a Two-Time New York Golden Gloves Champion, 24-year-old Sadam Ali (16-0, 10 KO’s) reached the pinnacle of the amateur game in 2008 when he represented the United States at the Beijing Olympic Games. In January of 2009, “World Kid” turned pro with a first round technical knockout win over Ricky Thompson and, after winning all of his fights against increasingly tougher opposition, has gone on to become one of the most popular fighters in the New York metropolitan area. In his most recent fight on October 27, 2012, Ali, who is of Yemeni descent, knocked out Ronnie Warrior Jr. in the second round. With his team of Andre Rozier (trainer), Mahmoud Ali (father/advisor), Anthony Catanzaro (advisor) and Walter Kane (attorney) joining with Golden Boy, the sky’s the limit for this talented welterweight.

Ali’s first bout under the Golden Boy Promotions banner will be announced at a later date.

Broner becomes three-division champ with split decision over Malignaggi

Adrien-Broner
BROOKLYN—Adrien Broner became a three-division world champion as he won the WBA Welterweight title with a 12 round split decision over Paulie Malignaggi at the Barclays Center

Malignaggi came out landing the jab with a accuracy and volume. The was a solid strategy over the first two rounds. At the end of round two. Broner had a big round three as rocked Malignaggi with a hard left hook and then followed up with a hard combination at the end of the round. Malignaggi kept to a solid game plan as he played to his strengths by throwing five and six punches, focusing on the body in attempt to slow the power punching Broner..

Over the second half of the fight Broner landed some hard shots that bounced off the face of Malignaggi but the two-time champion kept on coming. Broner landed the more descriptive punches of note and there were alot of them but Malignaggi continued to throw a great volume of punches.

Broner took two cards 117-111, 115-113 and Malignaggi took a third card 115-113.

Broner is now 27-0. Malignaggi is now 32-5.

GOLDEN BOY CLASSICS TO FEATURE BOXING GREATS BERNARD HOPKINS & MANNY PACQUIAO ON JUNE 23 ON FOX DEPORTES

Bernard Hopkins
LOS ANGELES, June 22 – It’s a night of legends on the Sunday, June 23 edition of Golden Boy Classics on FOX Deportes headlined by the ageless wonder of the fight game, Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins. Golden Boy Classics will preview the match-up on June 23 which will air on FOX Deportes at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT.

In the Classics main event, it’s a look back as Hopkins takes on then-undefeated Kelly Pavlik in a 2008 fight that shocked the boxing world. Plus, Manny Pacquiao meets Marco Antonio Barrera in their 2007 rematch in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Written off by many after his controversial loss to Joe Calzaghe, then 43-year-old Bernard Hopkins entered the ring at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on October 18, 2008 determined to shock then (34-0) Kelly Pavlik and he did just that. Hopkins put on a boxing clinic en route to a clear cut 12-round decision victory. “The Executioner” wouldn’t be underestimated again.

In November of 2003, an unknown Manny Pacquiao upset Mexican superstar Marco Antonio Barrera, but four years later, on October 6, 2007, Barrera got his shot at redemption and despite a spirited effort, it was Pacquiao who emerged victorious again, this time via 12-round decision.
