SERGEY KOVALEV vs. CORNELIUS WHITE

Bethlehem, PA–A virtual unknown less than 12 months ago, hard-hitting Sergey Kovalev is one fight away from challenging for the world light-heavyweight title.

Kovalev, of Chelyabinsk, Russia, takes on Cornelius White, of Houston, TX, in a scheduled 12-round elimination fight on Friday evening, June 14, at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. The winner becomes the No. 1 challenger for the IBF crown, currently held by Bernard Hopkins, of Philadelphia, PA.

The Kovalev-White contest is part of a triple header to be televised live as part of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night series. Other televised matches, set for 10 rounds, feature heavyweight Bryant Jennings, of Philadelphia, vs. Andrey Fedosov, of Shuya, Russia, and welterweight Ronald Cruz, of Bethlehem, vs. Ray Narh, of Brooklyn, NY.

Now living in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the 30-year-old Kovalev has been tearing through the 175-pound division in the last year. His 20-0-1 record includes 18 knockouts, including a three-round destruction of former world-title challenger Gabriel Campillo, of Spain, on Jan. 19 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. That fight also was aired over the NBC Sports Network.

A pro since 2009, Kovalev will be making his third appearance at the Sands, where he previously knocked out Darnell Boone, of Youngstown, OH, and Lionel Thompson, of Buffalo, NY. The only non-win on Kovalev’s record came when Grover Young, of Memphis, TN, was unable to continue due to an accidental foul in the second round of their 2011 fight at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, CA.

White, 31, is 21-1, 16 K0s, having lost only to Donovan George, of Chicago, IL, when he (White) boxed as a super middleweight for the only time in the last four years. Fifteen of White’s 16 knockouts have come in the first three rounds.

In his last fight March 9 in Costa Mesa, CA, White earned an eight-round decision over Otis Griffin, of Sacramento, CA. Prior to that, on July 14, 2012, at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, NV, White won the IBF International Light-Heavyweight Title by scoring a 12-round decision over Dmitry Sukhotsky, of Barnaul, Russia.

BELLEW-CHILEMBA ROUND 13!

New York, NY (5/23/13) – On March 30, top-rated light heavyweight contender Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba (20-1-2, 9KO’s) and reigning WBC silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12KO’s) battled to a 12-round split decision draw in Bellew’s backyard of Liverpool. Now, the two combatants are set to go at it again this Saturday night, on the undercard of the much anticipated rematch between defending IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler at the beautiful O2 Arena in London. The bout, promoted by Matchroom Sport, in association with DiBella Entertainment, is scheduled for 12 rounds and will once again be for Bellew’s WBC Silver light heavyweight title.

“I am sharper, stronger and definitely healthier this time around,” said WBC #3, IBF #9, and WBO #9-rated Chilemba. “I will adjust and do whatever is necessary to beat him and bring the victory home. The changes that I made this time were mostly to do with my approach to the camp and keeping healthy. Buddy has made a few changes in the ring with me as well.”

In their first bout, Chilemba got off to a slow start, allowing Bellew to take the early rounds behind a loudly partisan hometown crowd. Chilemba picked up the pace in the fifth frame, and after the sixth, trainer Buddy McGirt gave Chilemba an earful in the corner, stating, “You can’t keep backing up, you can’t win like that.”

Chilemba followed instructions and began pressing the action and controlling the pace of the fight behind his jab, frustrating Bellew and silencing the sold-out crowd in the process.

In the end, the bout was ruled a draw with one judge scoring 116-112 for Chilemba, the other tallying 116-115 for Bellew, and the third having it even at 114-114. Now the two are set to begin round 13, in what promises to be a huge night of boxing in the U.K.

“I feel like I’ve already beaten Tony, but apparently that wasn’t enough, so this time I am getting in the ring with full intentions of surpassing my last performance. If Tony thought he had it tough in our last bout, then he better be ready this time around because he is in for the fight of his life.”

Antonio Margarito denies rumors of a possible return to the ring or financial emas problems

A Press Conference was held at the Casino De Sol Resort Hotel with three-time welterweight world champion Antonio Margarito Vs Abel Perry.
LOS ANGELES, CA.-Surprised by several recent articles announcing a return to boxing course due to financial problems, former heavyweight boxing champion, Antonio Margarito has been reported that there is absolutely no truth about a possible return, or who suffers from difficulties industry due to their divorce.

The Mexican fighter has been out of the ring since 2011, after losing the rematch with Miguel Cotto. Margarito announced his retirement in June last year. Currently, the “Tijuana Tornado” is in Los Angeles, California.

“I was surprised to hear several unsubstantiated rumors regarding my current situation, including news about the supposed return to boxing and supposedly a divorce settlement that has left me in financial hardship and the need to return to boxing. The news of my return of my financial situation and information about an agreement, are unfounded. Yet some tabloid media has gone beyond that by spreading rumors that no one took the trouble to investigate thoroughly, “said Margarito.

“I am the first to admit that my time in boxing is a thing of the past, and as a man who has his feet firmly on the ground also know that I have to be jealous to protect my property, because it will be very difficult to find another profession that could produce what he earned in the ring, “he added.

“However, there is some damage to my family that can be done by spreading lies and half-truths. We have officially separated from my wife Michelle for more than two years. She has formed her new life and is in a new relationship and pregnant. since then, I’ve made a new life, and I have a baby with my girlfriend Lorena Vidales.’s divorce settlement was not finalized as we are civilized people, respect life from each other and during this time we have been negotiating a divorce settlement, “said Margarito.

“With what we’re going to share, I hope to help us live, if not a life of luxury, if in a comfortable lifestyle. However, when people start talking about” An agreement Millionaire “Michelle exposes and my children – who live in Tijuana, Mexico, to become victims of blackmail and even kidnappings.’s why I wanted to make this public statement on the situation, “said Margarito.

“I accepted and still accept any criticism about my boxing career and have always been grateful to the press that covered my career, but this is not strictly a case related to the box and I think that boxing has been used by some journalists to trample my private life, showing no respect for other people who have nothing to do with boxing and could be damaged by misinformation, “he said Margarito.

Froch-Kessler final press conference quotes

carl-froch_victory
IBF CHAMPION CARL FROCH:

“It doesn´t get any better than this… to be involved in a fight of this magnitude at this scale against a fighter like Mikkel Kessler at this venue…I could almost explode. I feel shaky and nervous but also confident and strong. I am so sharp. I will enjoy it, I will leave absolutely everything in the ring, heart, soul, guts, tears and blood if necessary.”

WBA CHAMPION MIKKEL KESSLER:

“A lot of people said I am crazy to come to London and fight him in his hometown because I have already beaten him once. But you know what, this is the fight I want to fight, I don´t see any bigger fight in the world right now. I am a man of my word and I shook his hand and I said I am going to fight you in your hometown and that is why I am here. I want to show him and all the fans that I am better than him in his hometown, too. And I want his belt, I have never had the IBF belt.”

Former Junior Middleweight Title Challenger Rodriguez to Meet Former Welterweight Title Challenger Hernandez on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights

Delvin Rodriguez_Diller
The May 24 edition of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra will feature former Junior Middleweight and Welterweight title challenger Delvin Rodriguez (27-6-3, 15 KOs) and former Welterweight title challenger Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez (30-4, 1 ND, 20 KOs) in the 10-round Junior Middleweight main event. Friday’s show from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., will air live at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2 HD, ESPN Deportes and WatchESPN. Friday’s card is promoted by Star Boxing.

Commentators:
Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside describing the action for ESPN2 HD, while studio host Todd Grisham (@GrishamESPN) will be on site presenting all the latest boxing news and highlights. Pablo Viruega and Leopoldo Gonzalez will call this week’s fights ringside for ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates (Friday Night Fights) with Claudia Trejos anchoring the studio on site. Bilingual reporter Bernardo Osuna (@osunaespn) will present live interviews and reports for both shows.

Main Event:
Connecticut’s Rodriguez, who also doubles as a boxing analyst for ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates, is making his 16th fighting appearance on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. Rodriguez has had impressive wins throughout his career, including wins over Mike Arnaoutis (W12), Shamone Alvarez (W12), Oscar Diaz (TKO11) and a 10-round unanimous decision win in a rematch over Pawel Wolak, which led to a Junior Middleweight title shot against defending titlist Austin Trout. Rodriguez’s first match against Wolak–a 10-round draw televised on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights–was named “2011 Fight of the Year” by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). In his last fight in February, Rodriguez scored a sixth-round TKO win over George Tahdooahnippah.

After the fight, ESPN.com boxing writer Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) wrote: “Rodriguez, with his home-state fans loudly behind him, simply pummeled Tahdooahnippah, who had nothing but heart and a good chin. Rodriguez nearly stopped him late in the second round as he teed off with flush right hands over and over. Rodriguez opened a cut on the bridge of Tahdooahnippah’s nose in the third and continued to pound him relentlessly, round after round. This was a strong performance from Rodriguez against an utterly overmatched but game foe.”

California’s Hernandez, who challenged former titlist Andre Berto for his WBC Welterweight belt in 2010, enters Friday’s fight with wins over former world titlists Luis Callazo (W10), Mike Anchondo (TKO4) and DeMarcus Corley (KO5). Hernandez is looking to get back to his winning ways following a 10-round unanimous decision loss to 2008 Olympian Demetrius Andrade in his last fight in January.

“He (Hernandez) needs to get a ‘W’ now to get some more opportunities, and he’s fighting a guy who’s going to give him that opportunity,” advisor Nigel Burns said. “That’s not a knock on Rodriguez, but Rodriguez is more of a fighter than a boxer. I think it should be a good fight. Rodriguez is a good fighter and has fought some good people, and I expect him to actually stand in the pocket and trade with us.”

Co-Feature:
Friday’s 10-round co-feature will pit undefeated Junior Welterweight Issouf “Volcano” Kinda (16-0, 6 KOs) against Chris “Hurricane” Howard (15-2-1, 7 KOs). Kinda scored a second-round knockout win over Javier Loya in his last fight, while Howard is coming off an upset third-round TKO win over Bayan Jargal.

Nasty Tooth Infection Delays Fegatilli return until August!

n an unfortunate turn of events former European champion Ermano “ll’Dottore” Fegatilli (27-5-0 5 KO’s) must walk away from his scheduled June 22nd stay-busy-fight in Gramont, Belgium due to an excruciating tooth infection.

The infection occurred during a dental implant to fix a broken tooth. The implant will be removed in the coming weeks and later replaced after his August 23rd eight-round fight in Ostende and October 11th WBC elimination fight at Gents Boksgala 12 at the Topsporthal Vlaanderen in Gent, Belgium.

The fight in Ostende is merely for the sake of “dusting his skillset” and keeping prepared and active for his October elimination fight – likely against Justin Savi to commence with the WBC’s Super Featherweight elimination tournament.

Fegatilli understands the seriousness of being at the top of his game for every fight. A precise marksman in the ring he brings perfect alignment at every angle. He always looks to show his thick arsenal. In August, October, he promises to drive in just that.

Don’t miss Ermano on “Bunces Boxing Hour” next Monday at the usual time of 7 PM BST/8 PM CET. More news will be released soon.

Argenis Mendez in England for training camp to Prepare for 1st IBF super featherweight title defense

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (February 26, 2013) – International Boxing Federation (IBF) super featherweight champion Argenis “The Thunderstorm” Mendez (21-2-, 10 KOs) has arrived in England and joined his trainer, Lee Beard, to prepare for his first title defense.

Mendez, a 2004 Dominican Republic Olympian now living in Miami, captured the IBF crown this past March in a rematch, destroying defending champion Juan Carlos Salgado in four rounds.

“We’re going to England to begin preparation for our first title defense,” Mendez said before departing Florida. “We trained there in the UK before I defeated Salgado and the result was the best. We will be in England for about 45 days with my main trainer, Lee Beard, and other members of our championship team. We will meet to establish a training and nutrition plan to have me in great physical condition right through the night of my next fight. We are dedicated to reaching our goal to retain my title. The only way we know how to achieve success is to continue working hard.”

Mendez is scheduled to defend his crown in the middle of July against an opponent to be determined. “My job is to be ready to fight when my promoter tells me who, when and where,” added Mendez, who is rated No. 3 in the world by The Ring Magazine. “We had to make many sacrifices to get this world title. BRYANT JENNINGS vs. ANDREY FEDOSOV

Heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings, who boxed five times in 2012, makes his first start of 2013 when he takes on hard-hitting Andrey Fedosov in the scheduled 10-round main event on Friday evening, June 14, at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.

The Jennings-Fedosov fight tops a triple header card which will be televised live, beginning 8PM ET, as part of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night series. Other televised matches include Sergey Kovalev, of Chelyabinsk, Russia, vs. Cornelius White, of Houston, TX, in a 12-round IBF light-heavyweight elimination fight, plus Ronald Cruz, of Bethlehem, vs. Ray Narh, of Brooklyn, NY, in a 10-round welterweight contest.

First of seven bouts begins at 6:15pm with the televised card starting at 8pm.
Jennings, 28, of Philadelphia, PA, broke into the world ratings last year by beating solid fighters and staying busy. He began 2012 as a six-round preliminary fighter and finished ranked No. 3 in the world by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

His 2012 victims included previously unbeaten lefty Maurice Byarm, of Washington, DC; ex-WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich, of Vitebsk, Belarus; iron-chinned Steve Collins, of Houston, TX; journeyman Chris Koval, of Youngstown, OH; hard-hitting Bowie Tupou, of Tonga. All but the Koval fight were televised over the NBC Sports Network Fight Night series.

A pro since 2009, Jennings is 16-0, 8 K0s, and always is included in any discussion concerning the best young American heavyweights along with Deontay Wilder, of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Seth Mitchell, of Washington, DC. Jennings was chosen as Sports Illustrated’s 2012 Prospect of the Year.

Jennings is a work-a-holic, whether at his 7am-to-3pm day job as a mechanic at the Federal Reserve Bank building in Philadelphia or during his evening workouts at the Athletic Recreation Center at 26th & Master Streets.

“I haven’t boxed since Dec. 8 and I’m anxious to get back into the ring,” said Jennings, who got off the floor in his last fight to knock out Tupou with a right uppercut in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-rounder at McGonigle Hall on the campus of Temple University.

There was serious energy in the building that night. After the knockout punch was delivered, it seemed as if all of North Philadelphia had climbed into the ring to celebrate the return of big-time boxing to that part of the city which has been home to some of the greatest boxers in the Philadelphia’s storied ring history.

“I never look ahead,” said Jennings. “Yes, I’m on the fast track to the top but people can make mistakes when they forget to concentrate on the task at hand. My job is to beat Fedosov, then move on to bigger and better things. That’s where my focus is currently.”

Fedosov, 27, of Shuya, Russia, is a relative unknown. He came to the United States in 2009 with little fanfare and the Russian heavyweight title.

He is 7-1 in the United States, losing only to former contender Lance Whittaker via 12-round split decision in a fight in which Fedosov tore his left bicep. He has been seen on television just once, a brief knockout over Lionel Butler on ESPN 2, and has boxed five times in California, twice in Indiana.

In his last fight April 20 in Hammond, IN, Fedosov knocked out Darnell Wilson, of Takoma Park, MD, in five rounds. Prior to that on Nov. 21, 2011, Fedosov stopped Rodney Moore, of Denver. Overall, Fedosov is 24-2, 19 K0s.

The danger in this fight for Jennings is Fedosov’s power. Jennings was knocked down from a glancing blow from Tupou in the second round. He cannot afford to be careless against Fedosov.

“Fedosov hasn’t had a chance to fight the top guys,” said Bobby Hitz, Godfather of Chicago boxing and Fedosov’s American promoter. “Once Fedosov gets a hold of Jennings, you’ll see a brand new face in the heavyweight division.”

GOLOVKIN-MACKLIN HBO TELEVISED UNDERCARD BOUTS ANNOUNCED

Thomas_Oosthuizen
NEW YORK, NY (May 21, 2013) – Ever since it was first announced, boxing insiders and fans alike have been buzzing about the much-anticipated upcoming middleweight championship showdown between defending WBA/IBO champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26-0, 23KO’s) and Ireland’s top-rated former world title challenger Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin (29-4, 20KO’s). Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment, promoter of Macklin, has made references to the fight as “Gatti/Ward-like” and even hall-of-fame promoter-arguably the greatest promoter in boxing history-Bob Arum was quoted as saying that it is a fight that he would pay to see.

Adding to the excitement of what promises to already be a can’t-miss main event are the two HBO-televised undercard bouts. In the co-feature bout, red-hot super middleweight contender and IBO Champion Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen (21-0-1, 13KO’s) puts his undefeated record on the line against fellow undefeated contender Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales (17-0, 10KO’s) while top-rated junior middleweight NABF champion Willie “The Great” Nelson (20-1-1, 12KO’s) squares off against Luciano Cuello (32-2, 16KO’s) in the televised opener. Both bouts are scheduled for 10 rounds.

The stacked card will take place on June 29th at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods ® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The HBO Boxing After Dark® triple-header will be televised live beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT

“Both of these bouts have huge implications for each fighter’s respective divisions,” said DiBella, promoter of Oosthuizen, Nelson and Cuello.

“Tommy is not only one of the best 168lb. fighters in the division, but, in my eyes, one of the top prospects pound-for-pound in the entire world. He is taking on another undefeated, highly regarded fighter in Gonzales, and the winner of the bout truly emerges as not only a force in the 168lb. division, but as a potential star.”

“Willie is coming off back-to-back-to-back tremendous performances and is one of the hottest and most feared fighters in the junior middleweight division right now. Cuello is a proven contender, riding a six-fight winning streak and whose only two career losses have come against Canelo and Chavez Jr. This is a real fight and it will provide a true litmus test to see exactly where Willie is at.”

“June 29th is a big-time opportunity for all four of these fighters on the undercard to step into the HBO spotlight and establish themselves on a national level,” said Kery Davis, senior vice president of programming, HBO Sports.

With a combined record of 90-3-2, a nearly 95% win-to-loss ratio, and the bouts being the HBO debut for all four fighters, each fighter is chomping at the bit to get in the ring and prove their worth on June 29th.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity,” said the IBF #5, WBC #6 and WBO #14-rated super middleweight Oosthuizen. “There is no bigger stage than fighting on HBO. This is what I have dreamt about since I was a young child. I respect Gonzales as a fighter. He had a great amateur pedigree and he has yet to lose as a professional, but he never faced a fighter like me, and come June 29th, he is going to find that out very quickly.”

“Tommy gets his long-awaited opportunity on HBO. Fight fans around the world will have the chance to witness the most gifted super middleweight on the planet,” stated Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves, LTD., Oosthuizen’s co-promoter and the premier promoter in South Africa.

“I want to thank my team and HBO for this great opportunity,” said the IBF #12-rated Gonzales, promoted by Goossen-Tutor Promotions. “Fighting on HBO has always been one of my dreams. Winning this fight will put me in a great position for a world championship and I look forward to putting on a great performance on June 29th.”

“Fighting a guy like Cuello on HBO will give me a chance to make a big splash in the junior middleweight division,” said the WBC #3 and IBF #14-rated Nelson. “He’s a high quality fighter whose only two losses have been to world champions (Canelo and Chavez Jr.). I want to beat him in a better fashion than they did to prove that I belong at the top of the 154-pound division. I need to win and win impressively. My ultimate goal is to become world champion and this fight puts my in line for that.”

“This fight is a major step toward Willie becoming world champion,” echoed Steve Smith of Rumble Time Promotions, Nelson’s co-promoter. Fans all over watching him in his first HBO fight will see what a tremendous talent he really is.”

“I am very excited about this opportunity to fight Wille Nelson on HBO and to have the chance to showcase my skills in the USA,” said the WBC #13-rated Cuello. “I am confident that we will achieve a major victory on June 29th. I would like to thank my manager Pedro Garcia and my advisor Elvis Grant Phillips for putting this fight together and of course my new promoter Lou Dibella and HBO.”

Tickets are currently on sale and are priced at $300, $200, $90 and $45. Alexander broke hand in Purdy Fight

Devon Alexander
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, IBF Welterweight champion Devon Alexander suffered a broken left hand during his 7th round stoppage over Lee Purdy this past Saturday in Atlantic City.

“He hit Purdy on top of the head in the first round, and that’s when it happened,” said Alexander’s manager/trainer Kevin Cunningham. “Purdy dipped his head down, and Devon hit him right on top of the head. He knew it was broken. We came home and went straight from the airport to the emergency room and had X-rays, and they showed the break.”

“He’s going to see one of the top guys who works with the Cardinals baseball players on Wednesday,” Cunningham said of the St. Louis MLB team. “I think Devon will be ready to fight in late September or October, any time around that time.”

When Alexander (25-1, 14 KOs), 26, does return, there’s a good chance his next defense will take place Dec. 7 against England’s Amir Khan, the former unified junior welterweight titleholder who was ringside to scout Alexander and also to watch his younger brother, Haroon Khan, get a first-round knockout victory on the undercard in his second professional fight.

Cunningham said he likes the possible fight with Khan.

“I think it’s a really intriguing fight,” Cunningham said, adding he knew Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer was also interested in making the fight. He said that he would sit down with Alexander adviser Al Haymon and “see what direction we want to go in. But we have no problem with that fight.”

“We have no problem fighting Amir Khan next,” Cunningham said. “Everyone wants the shot against Floyd Mayweather, but if we have to deal with Amir Khan first, no problem. Amir Khan can be next. If Amir Khan thinks he’s going to use Devon Alexander to get to Floyd Mayweather, well, he’s never gonna see Floyd.

Geale to defend Middleweight crown against Barker

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, IBF Middleweight champion Daniel Geale will take on Darren Barker on August 17th at The Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY and will be televised by HBO.

“Fighting in the United States for the first time is truly an honor,” Geale said. “I’m going to give the fans a great night of boxing while representing my country with dignity.”

“Barker has to be one of the toughest opponents I’ve faced on paper, but I’ve been in the ring with world titlists and it remains to be seen whether or not Barker can offer up anything extra,” Geale said. “He is a top-rated fighter amongst 160-pounders, but in the middleweight division that’s saying a lot because the entire division is dangerous. A guy in the top 10 at middleweight would be top 3-4 in almost any other division.”

Said Geale’s American promoter Gary Shaw: “This division is so good that everywhere you look you see tough fights, but Daniel could’ve taken an easier fight. There are easier fights out there compared to Barker, but Daniel wanted this fight. The winner will be in a position to be considered the best middleweight out there.”

“I’m going to have my hands full, that’s for sure,” Geale said. “Barker gave Martinez all sorts of fits, but he is an even better fighter now, and I think he has improved a great deal since the Martinez fight. I’m not sure Martinez could beat Barker now. Maybe Martinez planned on fighting Barker before he got too good? I want the fights that will give me the biggest challenges, and I plan on handling Barker better than anyone has. It won’t be easy, but that’s what I’ll attempt to do.”

“This is a golden opportunity for me, and I feel it’s my time to shine,” Barker said. “It’s been a tough journey for me, but I’m one fight away from realizing my dream and becoming world champion. I’ve dedicated my entire life to this sport, and since the Sergio Martinez fight I really feel like I’ve grown as a fighter. I can’t wait to bring that IBF world title back to the U.K.”

“This is the fight that Darren wanted so badly, and now he’s got it,” said Barker’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “This is a wonderful fight between two incredibly gifted middleweights, it’s a pure 50-50 fight, and I know Darren is going to bring it home.”

King Raheem Fighting June 1st in Tacoma, WA for Battle at the Boat 92

Tacoma, WA (May 20th, 2013) – Superstar King Raheem is once again headed to Tacoma, WA to fight in the main event for Halquist Productions’ Battle at the Boat 92 at the Emerald Queen Casino. In March, after a two year layoff from boxing, Raheem (32-3-0, 19 KO’s) dominated Santos Pakau (28-8-2, 11 KO’s) in the official comeback to the sport he loves.

Battle at the Boat 92 is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA. Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased through www.ticketmaster.com and at the Emerald Queen Casino box office. Doors for the event will open at 6:00 PM with the first fight scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Raheem’s next test on his path to become a world champion will be Uganda’s Justin Juuko (45-11-1, 30 KO’s). Juuko, who has previously fought for the WBC and WBA world titles, is expected to be a good matchup for Zahir as he continues to get back into fighting shape. It could be a very intriguing night for Raheem as Juuko has fought some of the best in the world including: Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, and Diego Corrales.

In Raheem’s last fight at Battle at the Boat 91, Raheem was scheduled to go ten rounds against Santos Pakau in a match that was supposed to knock the rust off after not having fought in over two years. He may still need time to do that as Raheem went straight to work with the jab and landed the TKO victory 2:20 into the 2nd round.

The king’s boxing career has been full of ups and downs. The Philadelphia native accumulated a 213-4 amateur record and earned the opportunity of a lifetime when he participated in the 1996 Olympics with teammates and some of boxing’s finest: Floyd Mayweather Jr, Eric Morel, Fernando Vargas, David Reid, and Antonio Tarver.

After compiling a 26-1 professional record, Raheem got his next opportunity to fight Mexican legend, Erik Morales for the vacant WBC international title. The fight was supposed to be a warm up fight for Morales as he was scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao shortly after. Raheem surprised the boxing world by defeating Morales with a convincing unanimous decision and winning Ring Magazine’s upset of the year award. Raheem didn’t get the chance to fight Pacquiao like many would believe, but instead landed a fight with Acelino Freitas for the vacant WBO lightweight title. After a back and forth war with Freitas, Raheem lost the fight via heart breaking split decision.

Raheem hasn’t fought for another world title since, but training out of his “King Raheem’s Boxing and Cross Training” gym in Atlanta, GA, signing with Halquist Productions, and staying focused at once again returning the top, he has every chance at getting a title fight in the near future.

When asked what advice he would give to kids to become a successful boxer like himself, Raheem said “No matter what you believe you are correct. If you believe you can’t, you won’t. Always believe in yourself even when no one else does.”

Halquist Productions has built a reputation around the nation as the premier fight promoter in the Northwest. The Battle at the Boat boxing series continues to be the longest running professional boxing series at any Tribal casino in the United States. Numerous title fights have taken place at the Emerald Queen Casino through Battle at the Boat. The promotions prominence has brought in every major sports network including: ESPN, HBO, and Showtime to televise past featured bouts. Five other bouts including a six round semi-main event along with an undercard featuring four, four round fights is also scheduled throughout the night. Greg Cohen Promotions Signs Arash Usmanee

Greg Cohen Promotions is proud to announce the signing of Afghani-Canadian super featherweight contender Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KOs) to a promotional contract.

31-year-old Usmanee, rated #14 by the IBF, has already won the NABA and WBC Continental Americas Championships as a professional. As an amateur he was a five-time National Canadian Champion.

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Usmanee and his family moved to Alberta, Canada, when he was three years old. He now resides in Montreal.

Usmanee’s only career defeat was a highly controversial 12-round decision to fellow contender Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy on January 4 of this year. Fighting in Barthelemy’s adopted home of Miami, Florida, and live on ESPN Friday Night Fights, Usmanee appeared to take the fight over at the midway point and grew more dominant as the rounds wore on. However, the judges saw it another way.

Cohen will serve as promoter with Paul Keefe as manager and former world champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad as trainer.

“I’m looking forward to working with Team Usmanee,” said GCP CEO, Greg Cohen. “Arash is clearly one of the world’s best 130-lb fighters. He’s aggressive and fearless and never stops coming, which always makes for a great fight. We’ll be looking to move him into high-profile fights immediately.”

“I’m excited about the future,” said Usmanee. “Greg Cohen gets things done for his fighters, so I feel like I’m finally going to get my world title shot I always dreamed of. I just have to win the fights he gets for me. I have a great team in place and the next year is going to be a very exciting time.”
