Rodriquez ready to make his mark at Schuetzen Park!!!

Undefeated welterweight sensation Juan The Beast” Rodriquez, Jr. (10-0, 4KO’s) has promised to show the world a new and improved fighter on Saturday night April 13th at Schuetzen Park in North Bergen, New Jersey as part of a loaded card promoted by Andre Kut’s KEA Boxing Promotions.

Rodriquez, fresh off a grueling victory over cagey veteran Dontre King in which he showed the heart of a champion in pulling out a hard fought unanimous decision victory. “I let myself get into some bad habits in that fight,” said Rodriquez. “We went back to the drawing board and worked out those bad habits in the gym. Now I am in superb shape and ready to go. This is the year that you will see me make big strides in the ring.”

“I will be fighting at home in front of my fans and it feels really great,” continued the undefeated welterweight prospect. “This has been the best training camp that I have had. I am already on weight and I still have like two weeks until fight time. I don’t need to strain myself to make weight. I am still working hard so that I can be the best in the ring though.”

“Fighting back home means so much to me,” said Rodriquez. “This is my third fight back near my hometown of Union City, New Jersey. The first time I fought at home, my grandma had just passed away. The second time I fought was the anniversary of her passing. She meant so much to me and this time it will be near her birthday, so giving her a “W” for her birthday would be very pleasant for me.”

Standing in his way on April 13th is explosive 28 year old Emmanuel Medina, who enters the ring with a highly deceiving record of 3-3-1, 3KO’s. The explosive veteran has faced several undefeated prospects which include going the distance with highly decorated amateur star Antoine Douglas. Medina knows his chances of winning are through his power as all three of his victories have come inside the scheduled distance. In his last bout he defeated local favorite Benny “The Boss” Constantino (7-2, 4KO’s).

“I am ready for anything Medina brings on April 13th,” said Rodriquez. “Expect fireworks when I step into the ring on that Saturday night. Whether it ends in a knockout or we have a war in the ring, I am ready to show the world the new and improved Juan Rodriquez. It is time to unleash the beast!!!”

FIGHTERS PUT FINISHING TOUCHES TO MONTE CARLO MILLION DOLLAT SUPER FOUR PRERATIONS

Gennady Golovkin (208x138)
Monte Carlo – Gennady Golovkin is in peak physical condition ahead of the seventh defence of his WBA and IBO middleweight titles in Monte Carlo on Saturday.

The unbeaten Kazakhstani yesterday went through his paces during a public 45-minute workout at the suitably grand Monte Carlo Casino.

With his short off, he looked lean and ripped as he worked the pads with top trainer Abel Sanchez. “I’m ready to go,” said Golovkin. “I had an eight-week camp and all has gone according to plan.”

He defends against Nobuhiro Ishida, a fighter he isn’t underestimating.

“We’re expecting a hard fight,” said manager Tom Loeffler. “Ishida is tall and has some power, but Gennady is in tremendous shape.”

Earlier, Ishida worked out and looked sharp and relaxed ahead of the biggest fight of his career.

All the fighters, bar Jean Marc Monrose, who arrives today, put on public workouts against the dramatic backdrop of the famous casino. Unbeaten Edwin Rodriguez got a first hand look at Ezequiel Maderna, who he fights in the first round of the Million Dollar Super Four event. Big around the shoulders, the Argentine is a largely unknown quantity, but Rodriguez isn’t taking him lightly given his impressive amateur career.

“We’ve come off probably the best fight camp ever,” said trainer Ronnie Shields. “I couldn’t have asked for more and we’re planning to put on a show come Saturday night.”

There is a buzz around Zsolt Erdei’s participation, not least because he hasn’t fought in two years and no-one has a real idea of how he’ll shape against determined Russian Denis Grachev.

“He has a lot riding on this,” said Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman. “He’s a massive hero in his native Hungary, with many of his fans expected ringside. He’ll be fighting for them as much as himself.”

Sergey Rabchenko also looks in tip-top condition ahead of his European junior-middleweight title fight against Adriano Nicchi of Italy. Training camps in France and the UK have prepared him well and he says he is looking to make a statement against Nicchi.

“I’m number two in the WBC. A title fight could be around the corner, so no slip-ups from me,” he said confidently.

Meanwhile, cruiserweight Junior Makabu charmed the crowd as he addressed them in his native French. Little-known beyond Africa, he intends making a few waves against local hero Monrose.

The weigh-in takes place 6pm local time on Friday.

Best Boxing Match This Weekend is on WealthTV BELLEW: IT’S WIN AT ALL COSTS AGAINST CHILEMBA

Bellew Chilemba head to head[4]
SAN DIEGO, CA- March 27, 2013- Tony Bellew has warned Isaac Chilemba that he is willing through the pain barrier and beyond for victory in their official final eliminator for the WBC light heavyweight title on Saturday night in Betfair’s ‘No Retreat, No Surrender’ at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, live and exclusively on WealthTV.

Bellew and Chilemba came face-to-face for the first time at today’s press conference at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool ahead of the crunch clash on Saturday, and the hometown star rejected the thoughts of Chilemba’s trainer Buddy McGirt, who predicted Bellew would struggle to cope with the pressure of performing in front of a huge Merseyside crowd.

“The Bellew/Chilemba match up is the only fight this weekend to receive a perfect 5 star rating from BoxRec.” Said WealthTV’s director of live events Tommy Morris. “Boxing fans should tune into WealthTV and WealthTV.com if they want to see the absolute best in live boxing.”

“People have no idea what I am willing to put on the line,” said Bellew. “He won’t understand until he gets in. It is alright saying all the pressure is on me, pressure is nothing getting in front of thousands of people, I get a buzz out of it, I get a kick out of it; there is no pressure.

“Real pressure is dealing with a family day to day, having a family life, going home to fend for kids, that is pressure. Getting in the ring and smashing away at someone’s face that is a pleasure, not a pressure, it is something I like to do. It is what I do and it is what I am going to do Saturday.

“He can say all he wants about pressure with thousands of fans and my family there, it doesn’t bother me. I have done it before with 10,000 in there. Come Saturday you’ll see. It is one thing watching me on tape, it is another thing getting in a ring with me and feeling what I have got. He is going to feel that, he is going to feel something that he has never felt before.

“Buddy can say whatever he wants; play these mind games, or do whatever. You will see Saturday it is that simple. I am willing to die in that ring; it is as simple as that. Ask yourself this, I am willing to die? I will go to any length, you have seen cuts, banged up, on the floor, anything, I am willing to die Saturday. Is he?”

Malawian Chilemba told Bellew he was comfortable as the away fighter and says that with the pressure off, he can focus on doing his job: beating Bellew to land a World title shot.

“I have always fought under those circumstances and as Buddy said, I am not the one under pressure here,” said Chilemba. “Tony is the one who is under pressure here. He is going to be in that arena full of people supporting him. They all believe in him and they expect the best out of him and he is going to do his best not to let his people down so he is under pressure. We are the underdogs here, I am here to do my business and I am looking forward to it.”

Bellew and Chilemba top a fantastic bill in Liverpool with the chief support provided by the fight of the year rematch between Derry Mathews and Anthony Crolla, whoclash for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.

Rocky Fielding defends his English super middleweight title against Wayne Reed while Olympic captain Thomas Stalker boxes in his hometown for the first time as a pro. Unbeaten Liverpool starlet Jazza Dickens faces Jon Fernandes for the vacantsuper bantamweight title, while Stalker’s fellow former Team GB members Kal Yafai, Callum Smith and Scotty Cardle continue their pro journeys.

All of WealthTV’s fights can be seen on WealthTV nationally on Verizon FiOS TV channel 169 and 669 in HD, AT&T U-Verse TV channels 470 and 1470 in HD, along with over 100 cable systems across the country as well as on line viewing on numerous connected devices and via www.wealthtv.com.

LAS VEGAS (March 27, 2013) – Kicking off the Cinco de Mayo celebration and a weekend of legendary boxing, all eyes will be on the battle waged between unbeaten contenders Francisco Vargas and Jose Aguiniga when they collide at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Friday, May 3 for the vacant NABF Super Featherweight title. The exhilarating night of boxing action is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Taking place in The Chelsea, doors open at 6:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 6:30 p.m. PT. The FOX Sports Networks and FOX Deportes bi-lingual simulcast will air live at 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT. FUEL TV will rebroadcast the fight on a date to be announced.

Now fighting out of Los Angeles, 28-year-old Francisco Vargas (15-0-1, 12 KO’s) represented his native Mexico in the 2008 Olympics, going 1-1 in the Olympic Games. Since turning pro in 2010, Vargas has built a reputation for having a versatile skill set and ring savvy. Last year, he turned up the heat fighting and winning six times with five of those wins coming by way of knockout. On January 26, Vargas kept his hot streak going with a second- round knockout win over Ira Terry in Las Vegas. He will be back in the boxing capital of the world this May to meet his toughest opponent to date in the unbeaten Aguiniga.

Long established as one of boxing’s top rising stars, Oxnard’s Jose Aguiniga (33-0, 15 KO’s) raced out to a 31-0 professional record and was on the verge of big things before surprisingly walking away from the sport after his 2007 win over Joe Morales. In 2011, there were rumblings of a comeback and in February of 2012, he returned with an eight-round unanimous decision win over Juan Ruiz. Three months later, Aguiniga added a seventh- round technical knockout victory against Eduardo Arcos and on May 3, he will look to return to continue his journey to the top of his division with a win over Vargas.

One of the most promising talents from the Olympic class of 2012, United States team member Errol Spence Jr. (4-0, 3 KO’s) has blasted through all of his opponents since turning professional last November, knocking out Jonathan Garcia, Richard Andrews and Nathan Butcher and scoring a shut-out decision win over Luis Torres in his last fight on March 2. On May 3, the DeSoto, Texas prospect will enter the ring looking to impress once again.

Fellow 2012 United States Olympian Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz Jr. (3-0, 1 KO) has also made a smooth transition to the world of professional boxing, winning all of his bouts since debuting last December with a unanimous decision win over Vicente Alfaro. In February, Diaz scored his first pro knockout at The Cosmopolitan, finishing Jose Ruiz in the second round. Then a month later, on March 16, he returned to the ring and looked strong in a six-round unanimous decision win over Mexico’s Alberto Cupido. On May 3 he is sure to wow the crowd at The Cosmopolitan once again.

Braehmer and Culcay: Opponents named for Hamburg***

Juergen Braehmer (39-2, 30 KOs) and Jack Culcay (14-0, 10 KOs) are looking
forward to fighting at the Sporthalle Hamburg, Germany. The two Team
Sauerland boxers will be putting their respective titles on the line on
April 27. During today´s press conference, the opponents were announced.
Braehmer will take on Tony Averlant (18-7-2, 4 KOs) for the European Light
Heavyweight Championship while Culcay wants to defend his
WBA-Intercontinental Light Middleweight Championship against Guido Nicolas
Pitto (17-1, 7 KOs) from Argentina.

“I won’t be underestimating Tony Averlant. He proved his worth during the
fight with Eduard Gutknecht when he nearly snatched the title away from him
last year. I watched the bout, so I know what to expect,” said the
34-year-old. Braehmer is hoping to improve in comparison to his last outing.
“I know I can do better. The fight in Berlin was the first one after a long
period outside of the ring and consequently the first time for a while that
I have gone through proper preparation. Now I will keep this professional
attitude up. The fans will be able to tell the difference come April 27.”

The next step towards the top of the game is on the agenda of Jack Culcay.
According to Culcay himself, he is taking on his biggest challenge to date,
when he enters the squared circle against Guido Nicolas Pitto. “Pitto won’t
be travelling over to Hamburg to lose.” And the prodigy of Coach Ismael
Salas has already begun to analyse the style of his next foe. “He fights
quite dirty and the elbow always follows through. I will have to be
extremely focused. His fitness level is also very impressive. Pitto tries to
overrun his opponents. However, I won’t be giving him that chance.”

Both fighters stated their joy about fighting in Hamburg. “I didn’t just
give my debut here but I have also fought for the WBO Title in this arena.
Hence I’m happy to return,” stated Braehmer. Jack Culcay is also keen to
fight in the city of northern Germany. “When I fought my first professional
fight on December 19, 2009 it was as part of the undercard to Juergen´s
world championship bout. Now we are both fighting in main events on the same
bill. I cannot wait.”

Tickets for the big fight night at the Sporthalle Hamburg, Germany on April
27 can be purchased at www.boxen.com and www.eventim.de.

Joe Calzaghe looks forward to returning to Scotland and seeing old foe Roy Jones Jnr

calzaghe_jones
Former two weight world champion Joe Calzaghe has revealed he is coming back to Scotland on May 8th for a dinner show in which he will take centre stage with former opponent Roy Jones Jnr which both fighters will discuss there careers and answer questions from the crowd. This will be the first time both fighters have come face to face since there fight in November 2013, and will be the only opportunity to see them both on the same dinner show in the UK this year.

After a successful career, in which he racked up a mammoth 46 wins in both the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight division Calzaghe’s only professional fight in Scotland came with a points victory over Kabary Salem in October 2004.

Although he racked up a points win, he does regret not fighting in Scotland more “As a professional you have to be prepared to travel to fight sometimes, and my career gave me some mammoth nights to fighting Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas to beating Mikkel Kessler in the Millennium Stadium, but I do regret not fighting up in Scotland more

He adds “While my fight against Salem wasn’t maybe the most high profile of opponents, the Scottish crowd got behind me and gave me a good backing” Laughing he adds “They took to me as if I was one of there own.

Looking forward to coming back to Scotland, and sharing a table as opposed to a ring with Roy Jones Jnr, the ‘Pride of Wales’ explains why he is looking forward to hearing him discuss his career “As a fighter Roy (Jones Jnr) done it all, he was a multiple world champion- even went to Heavyweight to beat John Ruiz to lift that belt. He used to fight under the alias ‘Superman’ and when you see what he achieved you can see why he was called that. He is definitely one of the best fighters of the last few decades, and it was a pleasure to share the ring with him.

GM Promotions proudly present “An Evening with Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jnr”, in which both legends will share the stage for the first time since there fight in 2008, at Dalziel Park Hotel & Golf Club, 100 Hagen Drive, Motherwell on May 8th.

Chattelle looks to avenge first career loss in highly-anticipated rematch against Olson

LINCOLN, R.I. (March 27th, 2013) – Todd Chattelle doesn’t care much about revenge. As far as he’s concerned, his upcoming rematch against Dennis Olson is as new a fight to him as any random bout against a first-time challenger.

“We’ve both grown so much,” said Chattelle (11-8, 8 KOs), who lost his professional debut to Olson by unanimous decision in a five-round bout in 2007. “It’s been six years, so this is a new, fresh fight for me. It’s time for me to go, go, go … I’m not sure how much more time I’ve got left.”

The Pawtucket, R.I., native, who turned 34 in February, admits the daily wear and tear of mixed martial arts has caught up to him – “Some days are good, some days are bad,” he says – but still has enough left in the tank to make one last run at championship glory, which could begin Friday, April 12th, 2013 at Twin River Casino when he faces Olson at “Path To Destruction,” presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports.

As Chattelle pointed out, both fighters have come a long way since their original bout in 2007. At one point, Chattelle was treading water at 6-6 following a knockout loss to Derek Brunson in 2010, uncertain where his career would take him, until he signed a promotional agreement with CES and won his next four bouts, including CES’ inaugural middleweight title bout against Brett Oteri. Following back-to-back losses last year, “The Hulk” rebounded in December with a convincing submission win over Robby Roberts to put him back in the conversation among the top middleweights in the region.

Perhaps now is the perfect time for Chattelle to face Olson (12-7, 1 KO), an Amherst, N.H., native who is coming off losses in three of his last four fights and hasn’t stepped inside the cage since October of 2011 when he lost a unanimous decision to former Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) veteran and current CES MMA middleweight champ John “Doomsday” Howard.

“He might be a little rusty,” Chattelle said. “I’m not too far removed from my last fight. I’ll be fresh.”

Olson isn’t concerned.

“I will be non-stop, bell to bell, every round,” he said. “Both myself and Todd have had five years of experience since we last met in the cage, however, I feel that at 27 years old I’m really just reaching my athletic prime. I have nothing but respect for Todd and his camp, but I think my pace and forward motion will be a lot for him to deal with. I have trained very hard for this fight. I’ve never been so mentally and physically prepared for a competition in my life.”

Given the amount of time that has passed since Chattelle and Olson last fought (they actually squared off in a boxing ring, not a cage), there’s not much either fighter could gain by digging into the vault for a copy of the videotape, though Chattelle still remembers the details as if it happened yesterday.

“Two things in particular I remember,” Chattelle said, “First, I hit him in the second or third round and he went through the ropes. It looked like he was hurt. The referee stood him back up and they resumed the fight. At the end of the fourth, he got me with a real big slam that made a lot of noise. I wasn’t hurt, but I think it sealed the win for him.”

Asked if he thought he should’ve won the decision, Chattelle said, “I can’t really remember it like that, but I think maybe it should’ve been a majority draw.”

Chattelle will now have the opportunity to turn the tables, albeit against a fighter who has developed drastically through the years since the two last fought. After beating Chattelle in what was his fourth professional fight, Olson lost to Woody Weatherby – Chattelle’s first victim under CES’ promotional guidance – before winning eight of his next nine fights with the loss coming against former UFC contender David Branch at the Bellator Fighting Championships in 2009.

Suffice to say, both Chattelle and Olson have endured their share of ups and downs over the past six years. Chattelle alternated wins and losses for a year and a half before signing with CES, while Olson hit a bump in the road in the midst of his second four-fight win streak when he lost consecutive bouts to Dan Cramer, Rick Hawn and Tom Moreau, who have 30 combined victories between them; since beating Olson, Hawn has become a staple on Bellator’s most recent fight cards, winning six of his eight bouts with that respective promotion.

Chattelle, in a way, is right – this feels more like a statement fight for each side rather than a rematch. With everything that’s happened to both fighters in between, they each need this win a lot more now than they did six years ago. The major difference this time is Olson will come up in weight to face Chattelle at 185 pounds, not in the welterweight division where he’s fought most of his fights. Chattelle is more comfortable at middleweight, which he hopes gives him the edge in next month’s rematch.

“That might be my biggest advantage,” Chattelle said.

Strangely enough, Chattelle never sought after a rematch with Olson, but he’s thankful for the opportunity, if not for anything other than to show how much he’s grown over the years and how much he’s learned, even in defeat.

“My joints hurt, my body aches – there’s not a lot of time left for me to show what I can do in this sport,” Chattelle said, “but I’m going to take advantage of the time I do have left.

“Over these last few years, I’ve grown and become a much better fighter. I’m a much different fighter, too, just like he is. He’d probably be in the Top 10 right now, but he just hasn’t fought in a while. It’s going to be an exciting fight.”

The undercard of “Path To Destruction” features an eclectic mix of the region’s top talent, including Howard (17-7, 8 KOs), the former UFC vet, who will face Iowa’s Jason Louck (15-10, 7 KOs) in a middleweight bout, and Rhode Island natives Shaun Marmas (4-4, 1 KO) of Coventry and Providence’s Thomas Evans (2-1), who will clash in a three-round featherweight bout.

The show-stopped might be the highly-anticipated featherweight bout between Lucas Cruz (6-0, 2 KOs) and Rob Font (5-1, 1 KO), two Boston natives who will battle for bragging rights, along with regional supremacy in the 145-pound division. Also on the undercard, TriForce’s Keenan Raymond will debut against Northborough, Mass., lightweight Jay Bakanowski (1-1); Kody Norby (3-0) of Woonsocket, R.I., will put his unbeaten record on the line against flyweight Jimmy Grant (3-1) of Carlstadt, N.J.; and welterweight Toby Oden (1-0) of Milford, Mass., will return against Jersey City veteran Emmanuel Walo (2-1).

Fan-favorite Dinis Paiva Jr. (3-3, 1 KO) of East Providence, R.I., will also be back in action searching for his third consecutive win against Cambridge, Mass., native Kin Moy (2-0); and Massachusetts natives Matt Doherty (1-0, 1 KO) of Salem and Whitman’s Johnny Campbell (5-4, 3 KOs) will square off in a bantamweight bout. Unbeaten lightweight Nate Andrews (3-0, 1 KO) will also be back in action in a separate three-round bout.

Tickets for “Path To Destruction” are $36.00, $56.00, $101.00 and $126.00 and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254, online at www.cesmma.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Players Club booth at Twin River, or through any TicketMaster location. Doors open 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7.

(Twin River has waived its 18+ rule for “Path To Destruction.” Anybody under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must enter through the West entrance).

INSTANT REPLAY TO BE USED IN SERGIO MARTINEZ UPCOMING WBC TITLE DEFENSE AGAINST MARTIN MURRAY APRIL 27TH

Martinez_Chavez_Jr_120915_005a
New York, NY / Buenos Aires, Argentina (3/27/13) – On April 27th, Middleweight kingpin Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez will make his much anticipated ‘Homecoming’ in his native country of Argentina, when he looks to defend his WBC middleweight title against England’s undefeated interim WBA middleweight champion Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11KO’s). Martinez-Murray will take place at the country’s famed 50,000-seat Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina and will be shown live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.

In the live televised co-feature, Martinez’ fellow countryman, longtime welterweight contender Luis Carlos Abregu (34-1, 28KO’s) takes on fellow top-rated contender Antonin Decarie (27-1, 8KO’s) for the vacant WBC Silver welterweight world title.

“Boxing needs to step into the 21st century and use the technology that we have available to us, to make sure that justice prevails in this sport,” stated the WBC’s Mauricio Sulaiman. “Justice is not served in our sport when fouls or accidental actions occur, creating unjust results. The WBC has used Instant Replay for the last five years with great results, and we are very happy to be working together with the highly prestigious TV network, HBO, for this historic event.”

“The WBC has always been at the forefront of advancing boxing either through medical safety standards and technology as well as the overall betterment of the sport. This is just another example of the WBC helping boxing take another step forward,” stated DiBella Entertainment’s V.P. Ron Rizzo.

“We are supportive of this initiative and happy to lend technical assistance so the officials can make their determinations,” said Rick Bernstein, executive producer, HBO Sports. “Instant replay can be a valuable asset since everybody’s goal is to have the correct call.”

“I will never forget when everyone criticized Don Jose Sulaiman, President of the WBC, when he changed the distance of world championship fights from 15 rounds to 12 rounds. Now, every major sanctioning body follows that same rule for championship bouts. Hopefully for the good of boxing, everyone will follow him and use instant replay to avoid any more controversies in our beloved sport,” said Sampson Lewkowicz, longtime advisor of Martinez.

The Martinez-Murray world championship telecast, which begins at 8:30 p.m ET/PT, will be produced and distributed live by HBO. Follow HBO Boxing news at www.hbo.com and at www.facebook.com/hboboxing. Edwin ‘La Bomba’ Rodriguez lands in Monaco for ‘Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super Four’

edwin-rodriguez
WORCESTER, Mass. (March 24, 2013) – Undefeated super middleweight contender Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KOs) broke his Houston training camp yesterday and he landed today in Monaco with his team for this Saturday afternoon’s “Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super 4” at Casino de Monte-Carlo.

Rodriguez, the reigning United States Boxing Assocaition (USBA) champion, meets unbeaten 2008 Argentina Olympian Ezequiel “El Olimpico” Maderna (19-0, 13 KOs) in the opening round of four-fighter tournament, which also includes a light heavyweight fight between two-time, two division world champion Zsolt Erdei (33-0, 18 KOs) and Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8 KOs). The two winners will advance to the $1,000,000 (60-40 split) “Super Four,” championship final, to be contested at a catch-weight of 171 ½ lbs., on July 13 in Monaco.

The “Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super 4” is being distributed in the United States and Canada by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 p.m. ET – 12:00 p.m. PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH and Avail-TVN in the United States and in Canada via Bell TV for a suggest retail price of only $24.95. In addition, the event will be available via on-line Pay Per View at http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/Gennady_Golovkin_vs_Nobuhiro_Ishida/1896

To order the “Super Four” PPV, headlined by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin defending against former world champion Nobuhiro Ishida, go to your cable company’s PPV listings for Saturday afternoon (starting at 3 p.m. ET; event telecast starting at 3:30 p.m. ET ) and look under boxing for Golovkin vs. Ishida.

“We had a great training camp,” Rodriguez said before he departed. “I got in a lot of great work with (world-rated light heavyweight) Cornelius White, who is 6′ 3″ with a long reach. We sparred a lot of rounds. I feel that, since I’ve been working with (head trainer) Ronnie (Shields), I’ve become a more complete fighter. I’ve tightened-up my defense and my offense has been great. There’s always room for improvement, though, and the key to getting better is long training camps like this one.”

Rodriguez is the No. 3-rated super middleweight in the world in the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF), as well as ranked No. 12 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 10 by The Ring Magazine.

Fighting outside of his native country for the first time, 2008 Argentina Olympian Maderna is ranked No. 5 by the WBO and No. 13 by the IBF.

“He’s a good boxer-puncher,” Rodriguez spoke about his relatively unknown opponent. “He resembles Aaron Pryor, Jr. a little. I’m confident going into this fight. I always am because I believe in my ability and skills. I’ll be ready Saturday night.”

Rodriguez must get past Maderna to fight the Erdei-Grachev winner in the most lucrative fight of his career. The 27-year-old Dominican Republic native, who was a two-time U.S. national amateur champion, won’t allow the Super Four championship fight to be a distraction, nor the birth of his third child in a few weeks.

“I’m a professional and I will not allow any distractions,” Rodriguez concluded. “I’m a laid back person and 100-percent focused on this fight. I’m fighting a 19-0 former Olympian in the toughest challenge of my life. I can’t afford to look past him or I won’t be in the championship fight. The big money in the championship motivates me. I honestly feel the same way going into every fight. Boxing is a tough sport. I need to win and do it impressively to get where I want to be – world champion. Everything starts with this fight.”

Guerrero, a Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion, will challenge undefeated Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion Floyd Mayweather for the WBC Welterweight World Championship on Saturday, May 4, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The event, which will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV®, starts at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Below is what Guerrero, Espinoza and Itskowitch said Tuesday.

ROBERT “THE GHOST” GUERRERO

“I want to thank everyone involved, Golden Boy and SHOWTME especially. I’m excited for this fight. Man, I just can’t wait to get out there and fight Floyd Mayweather. I plan to shock the world.

“It’s funny because I’ve been talking to the media and telling them that I’m going to beat Floyd. Now, it’s time to get out there and do it. I’m ready. A lot of people think I’m crazy, but I think you’re crazy for thinking that I’m crazy. Just look at my wife. She asked the Lord to heal her and He did.

“When you believe, amazing things happen. I’m telling you all now that I am going to beat him. I believe God does things for a reason. I believe he put me here to humble Floyd Mayweather, and it is going to happen.’’

STEPHEN ESPINOZA

“We wanted to put this breakfast together partially to promote the fight, but anybody who knows anything about boxing knows that this is going to be a tough, tough fight. Anybody who says Mayweather is too fast, too strong and too good for Robert, well, they were saying that before Robert’s fight with (Andre) Berto too.

“We wanted to make sure the East Coast knew about Robert. Knew how classy he is and how wonderful he is as an individual. It will be an incredible event on May 4. Dave (Itskowitch) said this will be the toughest fight of Robert’s career. I think at the end of it, this will also be the toughest fight of Mayweather’s career.’’

DAVID ITSKOWITCH

“Robert Guerrero is an amazing fighter in the ring, but he is probably a more amazing person out of the ring. I know his story has been told a lot, but I don’t think it has been told enough.

“The first fight we worked with him was in 2007. We got a call the day before the fight’s final press conference with the horrifying news about Casey. I couldn’t believe when he walked into the room that he was going to fight a few days later. The fight happened. He blitzed Martin Honorio in less than a minute. I guess he wanted to get back home to Casey.

“When Casey’s condition got worse, he had a decision to make. He had to give up his title to take care of her. A lot of people questioned his decision, but it was the right thing to do. He’s now sitting in front of us facing the biggest fight of his career.’’

Burns to defend Lightweight crown against Gonzalez

WBO Lightweight champion Ricky Burns will defend his crown against mandatory defense against Jose Gonzalez on May 11th in Glasgow, Scotland according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“It’s been a tough few days and we’ve had plenty of obstacles to overcome, but I’m delighted to bring Jose Gonzalez to Glasgow for what I feel will be the beginning of a new era for Scottish boxing,” said Burns promoter Eddie Hearn. “Gonzalez is ranked No. 1 (by the WBO), undefeated and comes with a dangerous reputation. It’s imperative that we deal with our mandatory challenger to pave the way for big unification clashes.”

“I’m really looking forward to May 11,” Burns said. “He’s a big puncher with a great KO record, but I’ve been in with big punchers before and that doesn’t worry me in the slightest. It’s great to have the date and name sorted now so I can just focus on getting myself in great shape for a big night in Glasgow.”

“I’m very glad for this opportunity and it’s a dream come true fighting for the world title as the mandatory challenger,” Gonzalez said. “I’m not worried about fighting in Burns’ homeland. I’m preparing greatly for this fight and I’m sure I will bring the world title to my country.”

Said Gonzalez promoter Peter Rivera, “For us it’s like a rematch fight because Burns already beat one of our fighters, Roman Martinez (in a 2010 junior lightweight title fight), and now Gonzalez has the chance to avenge that loss.”

THE “MECCA OF BOXING” TO HOST ANOTHER MEMORABLE CLASH – FURY VS CUNNINGHAM APRIL 20th – THE THEATER AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

steve_cunningham
NEW YORK – Madison Square Garden, branded the “Mecca of Boxing” ages ago, will once again be in the spotlight the afternoon of April 20 when it hosts yet another important world class fight at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Undefeated Irish behemoth Tyson Fury, 20-0, 14 KOs, faces the stiffest test of his boxing career when he takes on former two-time champion Steve Cunningham, 25-5, 12 KOs, of Philadelphia, in a 12 round IBF Title Elimination Bout that is expected to be a classic conflict of styles guaranteed to produce fistic fireworks. The first live fight in the theater will begin at 1:15PM ET. The main event and co-feature fights will be broadcast on NBC beginning at 4PM ET.

The list of critical clashes in the Garden’s storied history boggles the mind. Every great fighter in the sport’s past has fought there, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Ali, Frazier, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Klitschko and countless others. Chapter upon chapter of boxing history has been made at the legendary site. Next month’s main event is just the latest entry on the venue’s stellar resume, further proving that MSG was, is, and always will be, the center of the boxing world.

The venue tops the bucket list of every boxing fan, many of whom travel far and wide to watch a fight in the hallowed New York boxing arena. In addition to fans, the fighters themselves also dream of going to the “Mecca” and headlining their own show.

“It’s something that I’ve dreamed about since I was a little kid,” Fury said. “Coming to New York, fighting at Madison Square Garden. It’s finally come true!”

Headlining at Madison Square Garden reminds me how important it is to work hard in camp and go out and win. This chance is something that doesn’t happen to everybody.”

‘Kid Chocolate’ Thunder Set to Explode Apr. 27 WBO Middleweight Champion Peter Quillin 1st Title Defense vs. Fernando Guerrero

Quillin206
LOS ANGELES (March 26, 2013) – World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (28-0, 20 KOs) puts his title belt and unbeaten record on the line April 27 in his much-anticipated first world title defense against challenger Fernando Guerrero (25-1, 19 KOs) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Quillin was originally schedule to defend against Guerrero on February 9, however, the entire show was postponed due to an injury suffered by headliner Danny Garcia.

Fighting once again on Showtime Championship Boxing, Quillin vs. Guerrero could steal the thunder from Garcia and his challenger, Zab Judah, as Quillin did last October in the same venue against previously undefeated WBO title-holder Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, who was floored six times and eventually lost a 12-round decision (115-107, 115-107, 115-107), as well as his WBO crown.

The powerful Quillin, who now lives in New York City (Manhattan) but trains for fights in Los Angeles, returns home to fight again in Brooklyn where he lived for several years. “I’m fortunate to have my fight shown around the world through Showtime and to be going back to fight in New York City where I built my name,” Quillin said. “There’s not too much else in my thought process other than working hard to defend my title belt. Everyone will see me at my best on April 27th because every camp is about getting better.

“I love to challenge myself. I look in the mirror and honestly believe nobody can beat me. I still have a lot to improve, though, and I’ve gotten this far fighting through a lot of BS. I take what I do very seriously and anybody can see just that by watching what I put myself through at the gym.”

Cuban-American favorite Quillin has a clear advantage in quality opponents fought compared to the WBO No. 9-rated Guerrero, a southpaw from the Dominican Republic who lives in Salisbury, Maryland. Quillin has defeated world champions N’Jikam and Ronald “Winky” Wright, as well as Craig McEwan, Jesse Brinkley, Fernando Zuniga, Dionisio Miranda and Antwun Echols. Guerrero’s victims include J.C. Candelo, Saul Duran, Ishe Smith, Ossie Duran and Gabriel Rosado. However, Guerrero’s lone loss as a professional boxer was to a then 40-year-old with 12-losses, Grady Brewer, nearly two years ago by way of a fourth-round technical knockout for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF).

“I’m expecting to fight the best Fernando Guerrero,” the 29-year-old Quillin added. “He lost to Brewer but there may have been things going on I don’t know about. I respect him (Guerrero) but, once we step in the ring, things will be different and I won’t have any respect for him, like anybody else I fight. I know he’s coming in the best of shape – he’d better – and we’re going to give fans what they want to see.

“A lot of guys are told early in their careers that they’ll be world champions. All I was ever called when I was young was a juvenile delinquent or criminal. We’ve both overcome struggles. I’m not saying mine were tougher than his. Struggles make better fighters. He has said that I have power and speed, but I have a lot more — I’m good looking and tough with balls. I’ve got the whole package. I want to win this fight as much as my last one.”

He held the title for nearly one year before losing it Omar Nino. He earned his second world title in 2009, knocking out International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior flyweight champion Ulises Solis in the 11th round. After losing that title to Carlos Tamara the following year Viloria moved up to the flyweight division. He captured the WBO world title in 2011, upending defending champion Julio Miranda via a unanimous decision. After two successful defenses of his crown — both by knockout — Viloria unified the flyweight titles last November 17, knocking out WBA champion Hernan Marquez in the 10th round. Viloria enters this fight riding a three-year winning streak.

Estrada (22-2, 17 KOs), of Hermosillo, México, returns to the ring for his second straight world title shot. Morales banned 2 years by USADA

moralessilver206
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com former four division world champion Erik Morales has been banned for 2 years following at least 2 positive tests in the wake of his bout last October 20th against Danny Garcia

“USADA conducts testing programs for professional boxing matches only when both athletes contractually agree to participate in the anti-doping program, which stipulates agreeing to abide by the applicable anti-doping rules, including the rules regarding the adjudication process and sanctioning,” USADA said in its statement announcing the ban. “Morales’ contractual agreement for this anti-doping testing program included his acknowledgement that USADA would be the results management authority to adjudicate any adverse analytical findings in accordance with the rules.

“In addition, the appropriate boxing commission was notified prior to the fight, and within 48 hours of USADA receiving the information, that there was a potential anti-doping rule violation.

“Morales has been offered the opportunity to participate in the full, fair legal process under the rules, but has indicated to USADA that he would not like to move forward with the independent arbitration process, and as a result, has received a two-year period of ineligibility and the disqualification of all competitive results obtained subsequent to October 3, 2012, including the forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.”

Martirosyan breaks thumb; wont fight in China

Martirosyan_Lara_121110_001a
Undefeated Jr. Middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan suffered a broken thumb and wont be able to compete in his April 6th fight against Javier Maciel in Macau, China according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

I hit him on the elbow when I was going to the body and I hurt my thumb,” Martirosyan told ESPN.com on Monday. “It hurt and then I told [trainer] Freddie [Roach] that I thought something was wrong and I went to see the doctor and they said it was fractured.”

“The doctor said the longer I can go without punching the better, but he knows I’m a fighter, so I’m looking at three weeks,” Martirosyan said.

“It would have been nice to see how the people support boxing over there, but things happen for a reason and you have to wait it out,” he said. “I’m doing good, but it’s frustrating. I can’t really get upset about it. Life goes on. I have to stay focused and keep training, but I am bummed out about the trip.”
