NBC SPORTS NETWORK PRESENTS “FIGHT NIGHT 36: BRYANT JENNINGS” Premieres Thursday, December 6 at 10:00 PM ET

NEW YORK – December 4, 2012 – Undefeated heavyweight Bryant Jennings (15-0, 7 KO’s) will be featured in Fight Night 36: Bryant Jennings, premiering Thursday, December 6 at 10:00 p.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network.

The half hour special chronicles 36-hours in the life of the North Philadelphia boxer, as he prepares to face Bowie Tupou (22-2, 16 KO’s) in a voluntary defense of his USBA Heavyweight Title. The show tracks Jennings from the apartment he shares with his grandmother, to his sunrise training session, to his day job at the Federal Reserve Bank.
During the episode, NBC Sports Network cameras travel with Jennings for a grueling workout at the no-frills ABC Gym. In addition, the crew follows Jennings as he spends time with his son Mason, and takes an emotional trip to the bullet-strewn Philadelphia neighborhood from which Jennings emerged.

Fight Night 36: Bryant Jennings includes commentary from veteran trainer Fred Jenkins, and Philadelphia legend Marvin “Machine Gun” Garris. The show also captures Jennings, as he reflects on his upcoming opponent and the unique journey that got Jennings this point in his career.

“Compelling, story-driven programming is a staple of our network and the 36 Series.” said Jon Miller, President, Programming, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “Bryant Jennings’ talent and his incredible story make for a very captivating Fight Night 36 special.”

“Bryant Jennings is the first real star to be developed entirely on NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night series,” said Kathy Duva, Main Events CEO. “He appeared in the main event, on our first broadcast in January, and he will close the year for us on Saturday. Jennings has stepped up time after time and used the series as a platform from which to launch his career. So it is a natural progression that he should now get the chance to tell us more about his very interesting story on Fight Night 36.”

Jennings Fight Night match with Tupou will air Saturday, December 8 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network. Kenny Rice will serve as the play-by-play commentator for the telecast, and will be joined by Hall-of-Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach and cruiserweight contender B.J. Flores. Chris Mannix will serve as the ringside reporter.
Following are re-airs of Fight Night 36: Bryant Jennings: Dec., 7 at 12:30 a.m., Dec., 8 at 4:30 p.m., Dec., 9 at 4 p.m., Dec., 13 at 8:30 p.m., and Dec., 25 at 1:30 a.m. All times are ET.

Beltran vs. Kim on ESPN Boxing: Friday Night Fights Special Edition December 6

On Thursday Dec. 6, ESPN.com’s No. 8 (The Ring’s No. 10) ranked Lightweight contender Ray Beltran (26-6, 17 KOs) will meet former Lightweight title challenger Ji-Hoon “Volcano” Kim (24-7, 18 KOs) in the 10-round main event in an ESPN Boxing: Friday Night Fights Special Edition. Thursday’s card from Las Vegas will air at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2 HD, ESPN Deportes, and will be available online through WatchESPN.com, and on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app. The card is presented by Top Rank Promotions.

Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside for ESPN2 HD at the Mirage Hotel & Casino describing the action, while studio host Bernardo Osuna will be on site presenting all the latest news and boxing highlights. Alex Pombo and Delvin Rodriguez will call the fights for ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates (Friday Night Fights) with Leopoldo Gonzalez and Pablo Viruega in the studio.

Both shows will include interviews with Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao as they prepare for their upcoming bout scheduled for December 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. ESPN Deportes will also include live interviews with 50 Cent, and Yuriorkis Gamboa, and 2012 U.S. Olympian Jose Ramirez, both on Saturday’s undercard.

Main Event:
North Hollywood California’s Beltran, a sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao, is trained by International Boxing Hall of Fame 2012 inductee Freddie Roach and 1992 U.S. Olympian Pepe Reilly. Beltran won his last fight in July with a 10-round majority decision win over Hank Lundy on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.

After that fight, ESPN.com boxing writer Dan Rafael wrote: “Beltran nearly stopped him (Lundy) in the final seconds of the third round. Beltran, who was cut over his left eye, trapped Lundy against the ropes and was teeing off on him. He badly rocked Lundy and was close to a stoppage. Time and again, Lundy found himself against the ropes with Beltran serving as the aggressor throughout the bout. He continually stalked Lundy and outworked him en route to the upset decision.”

Beltran said of Friday’s fight, “I’ve seen Kim fight a few times. I think he’s a very strong fighter. He’s very aggressive. He comes to fight. I think it’s going to be a great fight, a tough fight. I’ve got to be careful with him.”

South Korea’s Kim has won his last three fights, including a May 10-round decision over previously undefeated Alisher Rahimov.

“Kim has now won three fights in a row and probably would test any lightweight in world just based on his sheer aggressiveness,” wrote Rafael after that fight. “He is so much fun to watch and dangerous because he is fearless, in great condition, and loves to wing big right hands that could hurt anyone.”

Co-Feature:
Thursday’s co-feature will pit undefeated Junior Featherweight Jesse Magdaleno (12-0, 9 KOs) of Las Vegas against Jonathan “Thunder” Arellano (13-1-1, 3 KOs) of California. Magdaleno is coming off a first-round knockout win over Jose Silvera, while Arellano will look to rebound after an eight-round unanimous decision loss to Roman Morales.

Congresswoman-Elect Tulsi Gabbard Welcomes Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao’s Continued Support

Hollywood, Calif.– Congresswoman-Elect Tulsi Gabbard today presented World Boxing Champion and Philippines Congressman Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao with a flag that was flown over the Hawaii State Capitol, along with an honorary certificate.

“We have many tough challenges that our respective countries are facing, and our commitment to working together is a symbol of the unity that is necessary in order for our country and global community to move forward,” Gabbard said during an appearance at Wild Card Boxing Club, Pacquiao’s training facility in Hollywood, California.

“I was proud to support Tulsi during her campaign because she stands for the people and will fight for their interests,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao appeared in print and radio ads for Gabbard during the weeks leading up to the August primary.

“I was impressed with her record of service and her deep ties to the Filipino community,” Pacquiao said. “I wasn’t surprised by her landslide victories, because she’s also a fighter. I am convinced she will make Hawai’i proud.”

Gabbard said she was humbled by Pacquiao’s early endorsement because he is both a national hero and someone who has also chosen to serve the public in elective office.

“As Congressional members in our two allied countries, we are committed to working together on issues that are of concern to both of our communities – issues like eliminating human trafficking, immigration reform, and creating jobs to increase the economic prosperity and quality of life for the people in our communities,” Gabbard said.

About Tulsi:

As a member of the Hawai‘i National Guard, Tulsi Gabbard served two tours of duty in the Middle East. She was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for her service and currently serves as a Captain.

A Democrat, Tulsi was the youngest person elected in Hawai‘i history, when in 2002 at the age of 21, she won a Hawai‘i State House seat. Two years later, Tulsi gave up her position in the Legislature to voluntarily join her fellow soldiers being deployed to a war zone in Iraq. Between her two deployments to the Middle East, Tulsi served as an aide to U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka. In 2010 she was elected to the Honolulu City Council where she chaired the Safety, Economic Development, and Government Affairs committee. On November 6, 2012, she was elected by the people of Hawaii to represent Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District, and is one of the first female combat veterans to ever be elected to Congress.

Kessler-Magee work-out – Montoya: “Magee won´t be there for the tenth round

Jimmy Montoya has predicted that Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KOs) will knock out WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KOs) in Saturday night´s clash at Jyske Bank BOXEN. “I don´t want to take anything away from Magee, he is a great fighter and very skilled, but Mikkel is just too strong and too good for him,” Montoya said at today´s press training in Herning. “Mikkel is just one of a kind. Magee won´t be there for the tenth round.”

Kessler is confident he will claim another spectacular victory. “The KO over Allan Green was great, now I want to defeat Magee and become world champion again,” he stated. “This is personal now, Magee has knocked out two of my countryman, but now his winning streak in Denmark will come to an end. LESLIE SMITH TO FACE RAQUEL PENNINGTON AT INVICTA FC 4 SATURDAY, JAN. 5 IN KANSAS CITY

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Dec. 3, 2012) – Power puncher Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (4-2-1) of Pleasant Hill, Calif. will square off with submission specialist Raquel “Rocky” Pennington (3-2-1) of Colorado Springs, Colo. in a bantamweight (135 pounds) main card fight at the star-studded 12-bout Invicta Fighting Championships professional women’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event at Memorial Hall in Kansas City on Saturday, Jan. 5.

“Leslie and Raquel have both proven to be ferocious and determined competitors in the Invicta FC cage, so we are excited to be able to match them up against each other and create what should be a barnburner of a fight,” said Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp.

The 30-year-old Smith performed brilliantly in her last start at Invicta FC 3 at Memorial Hall on Oct. 6, scoring a furious TKO on rival Kaitlin Young with an onslaught of punches from mount position in the second round (2:19) of action. The bout marked a rematch to the pair’s epic, three-round slugfest, which ended in a draw at the inaugural Invicta FC event on April 28.

Smith, who turned professional in March 2009 after compiling a perfect 3-0 record as an amateur, has earned three of her four victories as a pro by way of TKO with her hands. She is product of the Cesar Gracie Academy.

The 24-year-old Pennington, who has competed five times since turning professional just nine months ago, is looking to return to the win column after struggling with undefeated Cat Zingano in an Invicta FC 3 main card matchup that saw Zingano submit Pennington with a rear-naked choke in the second round (3:32).

Prior to the defeat, Pennington had reeled off two straight wins – a unanimous decision over Sarah Moras at Invicta FC 2 at Memorial Hall on July 28 and first round (3:52) submission (guillotine choke) of Raquel Pa’aluhi in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sept. 8.

Pennington amassed a stellar 7-1 record under amateur status between Feb. 2009 and Aug. 2011. She earned five of her seven amateur victories by way of submission.

Tickets for Invicta FC 4: Gadelha vs. Esparza, priced from $25, are on sale at Memorial Hall box office (913-549-4853), online at Ticketmaster.com and InvictaFC.com and by phone at 800-745-3000.

In the main event and first-ever Invicta FC world strawweight (115 pounds) championship bout, Claudia Gadelha (9-0) of Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil will face streaking star Carla Esparza (8-2) of Redondo Beach, Calif.
In the bantamweight co-main event, crowd-pleasing submission ace Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler (15-7) of Sioux Falls, S.D. will battle fellow top-ranked star Alexis Davis (12-5) of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.

Hard-hitting KO artist Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes (7-2) of Salvador Bahia, Brazil will take on submission specialist Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio (6-3) of San Jose, Calif. at bantamweight.

JEWELS star Hiroko Yamanaka (12-2) of Kisarazu, Japan will battle Invicta FC 3 winner Ediane Gomes (8-2) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in a featherweight (145 pounds) contest.

In the event’s opening main card bout, undefeated Joanne Calderwood (4-0) of Glasgow, Scotland will square off with Invicta FC newcomer Bec Hyatt (4-1) of Brisbane, Australia at strawweight.

After scoring her second consecutive, five-second KO on July 8, Veronica Rothenhausler (0-0) of Reno, Nev. will make her much-anticipated professional debut on the Invicta FC 4 undercard against fellow heavy-handed featherweight competitor Katalina Malungahu (2-1) of Las Vegas, Nev.

The six-bout preliminary card will be capped off with an atomweight (105 pounds) matchup between Stephanie Frausto (4-4) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Cassie Rodish (3-3) of Des Moines, Iowa.

Unbeaten Tamikka Brents (1-0) of Springfield, Illin. will take on Amanda Bell (0-0) of Medford, Ore. at featherweight.

Jodie Esquibel (2-0) of Albuquerque, N.M. and Liz McCarthy (1-0) of Tigard, Ore. will square off at atomweight.

Emily Kagan (2-0) of Albuquerque, N.M. will put her undefeated record on the line against Rose Namajunas (0-0) of Milwaukee, Wis. In a strawweight matchup.

Paige Van Zant (2-0) of Sparks, Nev. will face off with Tecia Torres (1-0) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. at strawweight.

DANNY “SWIFT” GARCIA AND ZAB “SUPER” JUDAH ANNOUNCE FEBRUARY 9 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT AT BARCLAYS CENTER IN BROOKLYN

NEW YORK (December 2, 2012) – Tensions flared as Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia and former Four-Time and Two-Division World Champion Zab “Super” Judah formally announced their Saturday, February 9 world championship fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which will be televised live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

Garcia, Judah and their camps had to be separated mid-way through Saturday’s press conference at Gallagher’s Steakhouse in New York City after Garcia’s father Angel made comments while addressing the media. Judah took offense to Angel’s promise that his son, the WBA Super, WBC and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion would knock out the Brooklyn native.

Garcia vs. Judah, a 12-round bout for Garcia’s Unified Super Lightweight World Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and supported by Golden Boy Promotions sponsor Corona. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins live at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast). Preliminary fights will air live on SHOWTIME EXTREME®.

Tickets, priced at $200, $100, $50 and $25, go on sale on Monday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. ET and will be available for purchase at www.barclayscenter.com, www.ticketmaster.com, the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center, all Ticketmaster locations or by calling 800-745-3000.

Here’s what the participants had to say during Saturday’s press conference:

DANNY GARCIA, Unified Super Lightweight World Champion

“It’s going to be another epic show. [To Judah] Come February 9th, I’m going to show you. I’m going to knock you out.

“Now there’s going to be a fight on February 9th.

“I am old-school. I always go for the knockout.

“I’m going to punish him. I’m going for the knockout. This is not going past four rounds.

“This is my time. It is going to be a great fight.

“He [Judah] is going to try hard because he is fighting in Brooklyn, and he is in his hometown. He is going to do a lot of barking and I am going to do a lot of biting.

“I won the title in Houston in front of Morales’ fans. I beat Khan in Vegas; he had a lot of fans there, so this isn’t anything new to me.”

ZAB JUDAH, Former Four-Time and Two-Division World Champion

“You’ve got a hungry Zab Judah. Get your seatbelt on because it’s going to be a roller coaster on February 9th.

“When you come into Brooklyn you have to show some respect. [To Garcia] Take your ass whooping and head down I-95.

“Danny is a cool, calm fighter. His dad is the mouth.

“I am not perfect. I make mistakes. I got mad.

“I am too fast, too slick and too strong for Garcia. February 9th is going to be fun.

“My first title fight was on SHOWTIME and now I have a chance to win the unified title [on SHOWTIME].

“It’s a dream to have an arena right in my borough. After 16 years as a professional, I am going to be able to give my borough the championship of the world.”

ANGEL GARCIA, DANNY’S FATHER & TRAINER

“Danny is blessed. I am blessed because of Danny. I train him, Al [Haymon] picks ’em and Danny fights ’em.

“Zab was a champion, that was his time, his era. There’s a new era. It’s about Philly right now.

“Danny is still undefeated. We’re not leaving those titles in Brooklyn.”

BERNARD HOPKINS, President of Golden Boy East

“A lot of fighters have made history in New York City, including myself. What better way to start the second show at Barclays Center than with a fight like this one? Golden Boy put on a great show in October and we are coming back with another great show on February 9th.

“Zab can’t be underestimated or disrespected. He always brings his ‘A’ game. Everyone knows Zab comes to fight. He brings it. Garcia, a Philly guy, is representing himself, his family and the City of Brotherly Love.

“They love Zab Judah in Brooklyn like they love Mike Tyson.

“This will be a test for Danny to disprove to any doubters out there. He’s taking on someone he doesn’t have to fight…a living legend.”

RICHARD SCHAEFER, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions

“This is the kind of fight that was easy and quick to put together. Both of these guys wanted this fight.

“When you have two fighters that really want it, it results in a great matchup.

“We have fantastic pricing for this fight starting at 25 dollars. That’s like the price of a movie ticket.

“The undercard will have Danny Jacobs, if he gets past his fight tonight and Peter Quillin.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

“At SHOWTIME, we are committed to bringing our subscribers the biggest names and most established stars, as well as discovering and building the stars of the future. On February 9th, we will be featuring both of those [types of fighters].

“It’s hard to believe in less than a year Danny has gone from an interesting prospect to a bona fide world champion. He has put his name on the short list of boxing’s household names.

“Zab Judah has been on that list for quite some time. February 9th will be Zab’s 10th appearance on SHOWTIME and every single appearance has been entertaining and compelling.

“This will be Danny’s litmus test.”

SEAN SAADEH, Vice President of Programming for Barclays Center

Fans Rocked the Emerald Queen Casino; 2 New CageSport Champions!

Tacoma, WA (December 2nd, 2012) – Halquist Productions brought CageSport MMA back to the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma with 2 title fights and they did not disappoint. Anthony Hamilton was victorious in his bout against California native, Bill WIdler, while Tacoma fighter, Drew Brokenshire, defeated the CageSport featherweight champion, Julian Erosa.

CageSport XXII featured an all pro MMA card featuring 10 fights that had everything from a last second knockout to critical judge’s decisions.

“This was the best CageSport yet. Amazing fights to close out the year. Fans have a lot to be excited about next year when CageSport becomes even bigger,” said promoter, Brian Halquist about CageSport XXII.

In the heavyweight title fight between Redmond native, Anthony Hamilton, and Bill Widler, Hamilton wasted no time in taking the offense on his quest to take the vacant heavyweight title, previously held by Daniel Stewart. In his last fight, Hamilton knocked out his opponent 7 seconds into the fight. The method didn’t change much this time around either as right when the clock started ticking, Hamilton and Widler charged at each other and threw blow after blow. The fight went down to the ground where Hamilton had control and after some vicious ground and pound, the ref stopped the fight 38 seconds into the 1st round and declared Hamilton the winner via TKO.

Undoubtedly the fight of the night belonged to Drew Brokenshire vs. Julian Erosa with Erosa’s featherweight title on the line. Both fighters brought a huge fan base to the Emerald Queen as the crowd was on their feet for a full 25 minutes of the 5 round bout. Both fighters showed tremendous effort and skill throughout the fight. Erosa showed a good ability to defend and counter, while Brokenshire was the aggressor and continually connected on straight shots that looked to phase Erosa, but not enough to take him out. While fighting in the clinch, Brokenshire was able to use his knees to land body shots. At the start of the final round, Brokenshire raised his arms and had a huge portion of the showroom cheering him on. Knowing that the fight was close, Erosa and Brokenshire battled it out for the final 5 minutes and kept with the pace they showed throughout the entire fight. In the end, the judges all scored the fight 49-46 in favor of new featherweight champion, Drew Brokenshire.

Other fights include Charon Spain earning a victory over Chanti Johnson with a last second knockout kick. Craig Jackson improved to 5-2 after defeating the previously undefeated Harrison Bevens. Benny Vinson and debut fighter, RJ Murphy, grinded it out 3 rounds to a draw. Cory Vom Baur was too much for Will Comstock to handle as he earned a 2nd round TKO. Richard Foster landed a couple of knock down head kicks on his way to a victory over Damion Martindale. Travis Johnston and Josh Solis came out swinging and after taking the fight to the ground, Solis was able to land a 1st round armbar. Eduardo Torres and Manny Russell were able to win their professional debuts as well.

Halquist Productions will bring the Northwest’s most premier MMA promotion, CageSport back to the Emerald Queen Casino on February 16 for CageSport XXIII. Also on the schedule is Battle at the Boat 90, also at the Emerald Queen Casino on January 5th. More information on CageSport XXII and all other Halquist Production events can be found at halquistproductions.com

Masternak ahead of EBU Title shot: “All that matters is a victory

On December 15 Mateusz Masternak (28-0, 21 KOs) faces his toughest challenge
inside the ring to date. Right before Arthur Abraham´s first WBO Super
Middleweight Title defense against Mehdi Bouadla, Masternak takes on Juho
Haapoja from Finland. The two cruiserweights will fight it out for the
vacant European crown.

The Pole heads into the title bout with some extra motivation. During the
summer, his wife gave birth to a baby boy. “My life has changed quite
drastically. Now I want to be even more successful,” said the prodigy of
Coach Andrzej Gmitruk.

However, Masternak knows that his Finnish opponent has a lot of experience.
“There are no easy fights at this level. Haapoja already won the EU
Championship and successfully defended it on two occasions. He is also
physically very strong and constantly on the front foot.” But over the last
year, the Pole has been growing in experience himself. The fight in
Nuremberg will be his fifth in 2012. “It is great that I have been fighting
so much over the last twelve months. It gave me the chance to develop as a
boxer. I am very happy with my situation within Team Sauerland and that I
have gotten this far.”

However, Juho Haapoja believes that he is in great shape ahead of the title
clash. “My preparation is going on very well. My last fight took place in
September and I have been back in training ever since. I am currently in
London for sparring sessions in order to be at my best come December 15,”
said the Finn. The 32-year-old fighter is convinced, that he will be ready
when he finally meets Masternak inside the ring. “There is no question about
his boxing abilities. But I have a few tricks up my sleeve which will cause
him some troubles.” Haapoja, who started off in boxing as a heavyweight,
says that the spectators at the arena will have a lot of entertainment
during the bout. “I always put a lot of pressure on my opponents. That won’t
change during the next fight. From what I have seen, Masternak faces his
opponents full on. Our two styles will create a real battle inside the
ring.”

Unsurprisingly, both fighters have a very different view on the outcome of
the fight. “Unfortunately I do not have a magic 8 ball. But I can guarantee
that I am not travelling all the way to Germany to lose,” said a confident
Haapoja. Masternak has a similar view. “I don’t think about how a fight
could end – all that matters is a victory. I will be the new Cruiserweight
champion of Europe.”

Tickets for the big fight night in Nuremberg are available at
www.eventim.com and www.boxen.com.

BROOKLYN (December 1, 2012) – Following an unforgettable night of fights in October to open a new era of boxing in Brooklyn at Barclays Center, Golden Boy Promotions and SHOWTIME return to the area’s most spectacular new venue on Saturday, February 9 with a world championship bout featuring WBA Super, WBC and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia against former Four-Time and Two-Division World Champion and Brooklyn’s own Zab “Super” Judah.

“Zab’s a great fighter, one of the best of his era, but it’s my era now and I’m going to prove it on February 9,” said Garcia, who will be making his third title defense. “The crowd in Brooklyn was great for my last fight, and I can’t wait to put on another show for them. I plan on ending this one the way I did my last fight at Barclays Center…by knockout.”

“I’d like to thank Danny Garcia, Golden Boy and Barclays Center for this opportunity,” said Judah. “I’m blessed to be able to come back home to Brooklyn, perform for my fans, and win another world championship. Danny is a talented fighter, but I have tricks he’s never seen before. This will be the defining fight of my career, and I can’t wait.”

“The atmosphere at Barclays Center was electric for our first event there in October and I know it’s going to be bigger and better on February 9,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “Danny Garcia is an exciting young champion making statements with each fight and Brooklyn’s own Zab Judah is going to test him like never before. This is a Fight of the Year candidate in February, and I can’t wait to get back to Brooklyn to see it.”

“We are thrilled to bring another exciting championship fight to Barclays Center for what is sure to be a dramatic evening for boxing fans,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “Our inaugural boxing event in October was a rousing success as we are delighted to re-ignite boxing’s powerful tradition in Brooklyn.”

“After a strong 2012 lineup of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, 2013 will prove to be even better,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “On February 9, we are expecting a spectacular night of boxing at Barclays Center featuring a rising champion in Danny Garcia and Zab Judah, a boxing main-stay who hails from Brooklyn.

Philadelphia Danny “Swift” Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) has been boxing’s breakout star of 2012, and a top candidate for Fighter of the Year honors as a result of his spectacular performances on the sport’s biggest stages. A top prospect and contender in the years leading up to 2012, the 24-year-old won his first world title fight in March by dropping, then decisioning the legendary Erik Morales for the WBC 140-pound title. Garcia then unified the titles in July with a stunning fourth round knockout of British Superstar Amir Khan before opening Barclays Center in October with a one punch knockout of Morales in their rematch. Now Garcia has his sights set on taking out another superstar in Zab Judah.

One of New York’s most accomplished boxers of all time, Brooklyn’s Zab “Super” Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) has lived up to his nickname with blazing speed, one punch power and classic performances. A former world champion at super lightweight and welterweight, the 35-year-old southpaw owns wins over Cory Spinks, Junior Witter, DeMarcus Corley and Lucas Matthysse, while also going toe-to-toe with modern greats like Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, and Kostya Tszyu. The winner of six of his last seven bouts, most recently a ninth round technical knockout win over then unbeaten Vernon Paris in March, Judah is amped up to fight in his hometown for the second time as a professional on February 9.

Televised co-features and a stacked lineup of undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

The second half of the fight had more intensity. with both guys loading up with power shots. Trout favored the left hand with both hooks and uppercuts. Trout had a big round ten as he moved and continued to pop Cotto with lefts to start the round and three nice rights in the closing moments. “Miguel Cotto is a great champion,” said Trout. “He’s a great fighter and it was an honor to be in the same ring as him. It’s even more of an honor to be the man to beat him. To have my hand raised against a kingpin like Miguel Cotto is a dream come true.

“Those shots that Cotto hit me with were strong and I knew he’d be strong, but it reconfirmed that take those shots. It was definitely the hardest fight of my career and when you fight someone as big as Miguel Cotto, it motivated me.

“Give me Canelo – it’s time to unify this division” Trout said. “There are a lot of good fighters out there and I want to be the best.”

When asked by Gray what he thought went wrong in the fight and if he agreed with the scorecards, Cotto simply replied, “Ask the public.”

“I’m satisfied with the job I did tonight,” Cotto said. “I’ll go back to Puerto Rico and think. He came at me with both hands and it was a great fight. He fought until the end. I’m really thankful for all of my fans who were here to supported me tonight. There’s nothing like fighting at Madison Square Garden.”

“It was easier than I thought,” Velez said. “I thought it would be a little more difficult. I was connecting so easily. This is a very exciting moment for me. I’ve been waiting for this my whole life.”

Jayson Velez remained perfect with a third round destruction of Salvador Sanchez II in a scheduled ten round Featherweight bout. Velez began his aasault in round two when he landed a big right hand just before the bell that sent Sanchez to the canvas. Jorge Melendez scored a fourth round stoppage over James Winchester in a scheduled eight round Super Welterweight bout.

Melendez battered Winchester in round one and dropped the twenty-two fight veteran for the first time in round two and again in round three. Melendez opened up the fourth by waling away on Winchester and the bout was stopped at fifty-four seconds

Anderson ready to wage war in Newark–FIGHT LIVE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT CARD
Hard punching Newark welterweight sensation Michael “Slick” Anderson (12-1-1, 10KO’s) is ready to put it all on the line Friday night, December 7th at the Essex County College, in Newark, New Jersey when he swaps punches with Mexico’s Alberto “Bombadero” Salas (12-7, 8KO’s) in the ten round main event of the evening for the WCB regional welterweight title. If that weren’t enough, Matchmaker Renee Aiken and All Out Promotions in association with Global Boxing Promotions have put together an explosive undercard featuring some of the top fighters the east coast has to offer. The co-feature of the evening will feature the return of exciting Jamaica Queens, New York Super featherweight Joselito Collado in an eight round contest.

Anderson of Newark, New Jersey, has explosive power in both hands as shown with ten knockouts in his twelve victories. In his last bout on October 13thMichael Anderson showed his power, needing only two minutes and thirty three seconds to stop gritty fifty fight veteran Miguel Angel Munguia. Now the stakes have been raised and the WCB title is on the line on Saturday night. At thirty two years of age Anderson knows his time is now and looks to show the people of Newark that he has what it takes to be a champion.

Standing in his way will be the always dangerous Alberto “Bombadero” Salas (12-7, 8KO’s) of Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico. Salas has won seven of his last ten contests. In his last bout Salas defeated fifty-one fight veteran Ulises Duarte. With eight knockouts in his twelve victories, Salas’s power makes him a dangerous opponent that could derail the comeback of Anderson.

In the eight round co-feature of the evening super featherweight Joselito Collado (13-2, 3KO’s) looks to bounce back from just the second loss of his professional when he takes on the always dangerous opponent to be determined.

Undefeated light heavyweight Ronson Frank of Rosedale, New York looks to up his record to 17-0 when he swaps punches with Ricardo Campillo (7-4-1, 5KO’s) in a six round contest.

If that weren’t enough to make this a can’t miss card, All Out Promotions has recently added undefeated Glassboro, New Jersey super middleweight contender Derek “Take it to the Bank” Webster (13-0, 7KO’s) who will battle it out with Emmanuel Sanchez (4-1, 1KO) in a six round contest.

Exciting super bantamweight prospect Raul Lopez (8-1-1, 4KO’s) of The Bronx, New York looks to capture his sixth straight victory when he faces an opponent soon to be announced in a six round bout.

If heavyweights are your bag, then you won’t want to miss the battle of Newark as Tyyab Beale (7-3-1, 3KO’s) square off with over six rounds with cross town rival Aaron “The Animal” Kinch (4-0, 1KO). Beale showed the heart of a champion in his last bout in the very same arena back in October as he had to get off the canvas to score a crowd pleasing 3rd round technical knockout of Montgomery, Alabama’s Kevin Howard (3-8-1, 1KO). Kinch scored a majority decision against the very same Howard in April. In his last bout, he scored a split decision victory over a debuting Aaron Bratton in Reading, PA.

Rounding out the show is a four round featherweight contest as debuting New Yorker Pete Reyes squares off against Newark’s Shakir Aquel Dunn (0-1).

The national anthem will be performed by Interscope recording artist Ashan.

EPISODE 11: ‘FIGHT THE PERFECT FIGHT’ FLASH QUOTES

Las Vegas, Nevada – Episode 11 – “Fight the Perfect Fight” – of The Ultimate Fighter® Fridays reality series aired Friday night on FX and featured the final pair of this season’s quarterfinal matchups.

First, after a tense two rounds between evenly matched combatants, Jon Manley took a majority decision over Team Carwin teammate Joey Rivera. Then, things heated up as former friends turned rivals Mike Ricci and Michael Hill entered the Octagon® to finally settle their dispute. And, after pressing the action in both rounds, Ricci nabbed the win via unanimous decision.

Finally, UFC® president Dana White rounded out the episode by announcing the semifinal matchups: teammates Jon Manley and Colton Smith will faceoff and Mike Ricci will take on Neil Magny. The two winners of these matchups will face off in the much-anticipated LIVE Finale on December 15 from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Here’s what the fighters had to say after their bouts:

Manley: “I’m not very happy with my performance. I did very well in trying to win the fight, but I spar with the guy a lot, I wrestle with him a lot, so I was scared to really exchange with him because in practice he beats my ass.”

Rivera: “I’m a little upset at myself, upset because I didn’t perform the way I should’ve. No excuses, I didn’t step on the gas the way I should’ve and Jon Manley was the better man today.”

Ricci: “I knew he was going to be tough, I knew he was going to come to fight. This means a lot to me, it means everything to me at this point. There are people who believe in me; my family, my friends and my coaches, but a lot of people said I was too small to be in this tournament and I want to prove those people wrong.”

That usually means fireworks in the ring, and I can’t wait to see it.”

Las Vegas’ Steve Forbes (35-11, 11 KO’s) earned his reputation in the fight game the hard way, taking on the best competition available night in and night out. A former IBF Junior Lightweight World Champion, the 35-year-old Forbes has been in the ring with some of the greats in boxing including Oscar De La Hoya, Andre Berto, Cornelius “K9” Bundrage and Francisco “Panchito” Bojado, impressing fans with his slick style and unyielding determination to win. Santa Cruz defends crown on CBS return to Boxing

IBF Bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz will defend his title against undefeated Alberto Guevarra on December 15th on the CBS Network;s first televised boxing match in fifteen years that will be part of a massive day and night of boxing at the Los Angeles Sports Arena according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“We are calling it ‘Santa Cruz is Coming To Town,'” Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer said, showing his holiday spirit.

Also on the card will be the pro debut of Olympian Joseph Diaz Jr.

“We are happy to be on CBS,” Schaefer said. “We’ve been working on this, and we’re excited to bring boxing back to CBS.”

In the evening, Golden Boy is promoting a Showtime-televised tripleheader at the same arena. That previously announced card is headlined by the return of former junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KOs) against Carlos Molina (17-0-1, 7 KOs) in Khan’s first bout since losing his title by fourth-round knockout to Danny Garcia in a July unification fight.

Schaefer also unveiled the other two TV fights on the evening card: junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo (21-2, 18 KOs) against Mexican countryman Jorge Silva (19-2-2, 15 KOs), and heavyweight Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KOs), the 2008 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist, taking on his most notable opponent in Kelvin Price (13-0, 6 KOs).

On the Showtime Extreme portion of the Khan-Molina undercard, Schaefer said welterweight Shawn Porter (20-0, 14 KOs) will face former lightweight titlist Julio Diaz (40-7, 29 KOs). Other 2012 U.S. Olympians also will be on the card, Schaefer said.

“We think Diaz has tremendous potential, which is why we wanted to sign him,” Schaefer said. “He has a great personality, he has charisma and he can fight. We think of him as the total package. He’s bilingual, he’s well-spoken and exciting. He has all the ingredients.”

Ralph Heredia, Diaz’s manager, told ESPN.com that they had interest from several promoters and also strongly considered signing with Top Rank.

“We are ecstatic to be going with Golden Boy,” Heredia said. “CBS hasn’t had a fight since around 1997 and the exposure Joseph will get is unbelievable. We couldn’t be happier. I believe Golden Boy has the best platforms for Joseph. (Golden Boy president) Oscar (De La Hoya) will take him under his wing and help guide his career. Just look how many shows they are doing on all different platforms. It made the most sense to go with Golden Boy.

“Joseph is very excited. He watched Oscar since he was a kid and he admires him as a fighter and as a businessman. Top Rank is a class operation, too, but when it came down it, we believed Golden Boy had the best platforms.”

THE NABF SUPER FLYWEIGHT TITLE WILL BE ON THE LINE DECEMBER 1 WHEN JOSE SALGADO AND DEVIS PEREZ DO BATTLE ON FOX DEPORTES FROM MEXICO

LOS ANGELES, November 30 – The NABF Super Flyweight title will be on the line at the Parque Andres Quintana Roo on Saturday, December 1 when Quintana Roo’s own Jose “Sugar” Salgado defends his title against Colombia’s Devis “El Metrallo” Perez in a bout which will be aired on FOX Deportes in the United States.

In the co-featured bout, the vacant WBC Mediterranean Super Lightweight title will be up for grabs when unbeaten Russian southpaw Denis Shafikov battles Ghana’s Albert “Tornado” Mensah in a 12 round fight.

Salgado vs. Perez and Shafikov vs. Mensah are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. The FOX Deportes broadcast will air at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

One of Mexico’s premier young talents, Cozumel’s Jose “Sugar” Salgado (29-2-1, 26 KO’s) is the two-time and current NABF Super Flyweight Champion and the 23-year-old is eager to add a world title belt to his trophy case in 2013. First, he must get by Devis Perez, but if the fact that Salgado’s last 10 wins have come by knockout are any indication, it might be a rough night for the highly-regarded Colombian.

Medellin, Colombia’s Devis “El Metrallo” Perez (16-7-4, 10 KO’s) is a 27-year-old warrior who is always willing to throw down with anyone put in front of him in the ring. A professional since 2007, Perez, who is unbeaten in his last three fights, has challenged for several regional titles over the years, but with the opportunity to challenge for the NABF crown Saturday night, it looks like his chance to enter the world ratings is just one win away.

A former IBO Intercontinental and current European champion at 140 pounds, 27-year-old Denis “Djingis Khan” Shafikov (30-0-1, 17 KO’s) is a veteran of nine years in the fight game and has defended his European crown twice since defeating Giuseppe Lauri for it in 2011. On May 31, 2012, he won a12 round battle over Brunet Zamora, the only man to hold him to a draw, and with that revenge exacted, Shafikov is ready for Mensah this weekend.

A native of Accra, Ghana who now fights out of Joliet, Illinois, Albert Mensah (25-3-1, 10 KO’s) is carrying on the tradition built by his countrymen of being a tough and rugged competitor willing to fight anyone, anywhere at any time. A 10-year professional and the owner of several regional titles over the course of his career, the 29-year-old broke out on the international scene in April with a hard-fought decision win over Michael Katsidis that established him as a serious threat in the division and a prime candidate for world title honors.
