AZEEZ vs FIELDING FOR COMMONWEALTH TITLE IN BOURNEMOUTH, SATURDAY DECEMBER 17

‘Super’ Dan Azeez will fight Rocky Fielding for the vacant Commonwealth light-heavyweight championship title when they battle on the beach at the Bournemouth International Centre on Saturday, December 17th

In the fight before Christmas, hometown hero Chris Billam-Smith takes on international challenger Armend Xhoxhaj as he looks to take a step closer towards a cruiserweight world title shot in 2023.

But there promises to be a storm by the sea for the chief support as British light heavyweight champion Azeez and Liverpudlian Fielding collide.

Azeez (17-0, 11 KOs) displayed his class in September when he outshone Shakan Pitters on Merseyside.

But the Londoner faces arguably the toughest test of his career to date as he looks to protect his flawless record against experienced world-level campaigner Fielding (30-2-0, 17 KOs) – whose only-ever defeats have come against Canelo Alvarez and Callum Smith.

Joining Azeez and Fielding on the bill is lightweight star Cori Gibbs, who faces Irish fighter Victor Rabei.

The Birmingham fighter, 29, is unbeaten with an impressive record of 17-0 (3 KOs).

Steven ‘Drago’ Robinson (5-1-0, 3 KOs) will look to upset the undefeated ‘Glasgow Warrior’ Nick Campbell (5-0, KOs) when the hard-hitting heavyweights meet on the undercard.

Campbell sparred with BOXXER’s Joseph Parker at Tyson Fury’s gym in Morecambe before the former world champion’s fight with Joe Joyce in September.

The Scot will out to make a name for himself with a big performance in Bournemouth.

?Rising Portsmouth welterweight Michael McKinson (22-1-0, 2 KOs) returns to action for the first time since his August defeat in Texas by Vergil Ortiz Jr

.?And local favourites Lee Cutler (11-1-0, 7 KOs) and Mace Ruegg (7-0) will be on hand to spread some early festive cheer as they look to close out 2022 with respective victories in front of their home fans.

Plus, Bournemouth will witness the debut of Hull super-welterweight Harvey Lambert.

Lambert, 24, enjoyed a dazzling amateur career winning as a member of the Team GB Podium Squad and was an Elite ABA champion and Tri Nation Champion too.? Lambert is keen to emulate the success of fellow-Hull native Luke Campbell and go on to enjoy an illustrious professional career – and he’ll be determined to start well with a winning debut.

“I’m real excited for this bout,” said Anthony Sims Jr. “It’s my first time fighting as a middleweight and first time fighting in NYC – and in Times Square – that’s real old school. I love that. I’m ready to show off my skills and win over some NY fans”

“I’m very excited to be back in ring against a durable veteran fighter like Andrew Rodgers,” said Ortiz. “Fighting in one of the biggest fan-based boxing cities just four days before Christmas will make this a special victory. I’m taking this fight very seriously, working hard in training camp away from my family. I am determined to look sharp and impress. I hope Rodgers is ready because I am coming with a vengeance.”

“I’m looking forward to coming to New York as it has been a dream of mine to fight there,” said Sulem Urbina. “Indeya Smith is a good fighter. She’s fought great opposition and she’s rugged. I just know I am there to win and this will be my Christmas present.”

“Excited is an understatement,” said de Jesus. “To be fighting in New York for the first time in my professional career & what a better time to be here, to put on a show for my family and friends during the holiday season! Look for an exciting fight as I aim to climb the ranks and make a name for myself in my division.”

Andy Dominguez (8-0, 6 KOs) from The Bronx and born in Mexico, knocked out his last opponent in the first round in front of a boisterous standing room only crowd gone wild that included many of his family and friends. It was Andy’s fourth knockout win in a row. Andy turned pro in August 2020, in a bubble event during the pandemic peak. Dominguez will fight fellow flyweight Gilberto Mendoza (19-13-3, 10 KOs) from Modesto, California in a bout scheduled for eight-rounds.

Anthony “The Magician” Sims Jr. (22-1, 20 KOs) born in Indianapolis now residing in Los Angeles made his pro debut on April 9, 2014, following a stellar career. He rolled through his first twenty bouts which earned him a January 30, 2020, WBO Latino supermiddleweight title fight, which he lost by split decision.  He would rebound in his next fight, winning the WBA Intercontinental Super Middleweight title on August 13, 2021 with a ninth round stoppage. On December 21, Sims Jr will fight Anthony Todd (14-6, 8 KOs) from Atlanta, GA in an eight-round middleweight bout.

Steven “Hit Man” Ortiz (12-0, 3 KOs) born and raised in Philadelphia, made it to the Gold Gloves national semi-finals in 2014 before turning pro in February 2015. Through his first six professional fight he had lost a total of one round on only one judge’s scorecard. On February 23, 2019, Ortiz won the Pennsylvania State Lightweight title, knocking down Jeremy Cuevas twice en-route to a unanimous decision victory.  On December 21, Ortiz will battle Andrew Rogers (7-10, 2 KOs) from Elkhart, Indiana in an eight-round lightweight bout.

Sulem Urbina (13-2-1, 2 KOs), born in Mexico now living in Phoenix, Arizona began her boxing life fighting at the Oxnard PAL as an amateur. She began her pro career in 2016 and won her first twelve bouts (with one no contest mixed in). Her first loss, on October 30, 2020, came against who is now Unified World Champion and Ring Belt Champion Marlen Esparza, against whom she lost a unanimous decision. On July 9, 2021 Sulem fought WBA Flyweight Champion Naoko Fujioka and lost a majority decision. On December 21, Sulem battles Indeya Smith (5-6, 1 KO) from Dallas TX in an eight-round super flyweight bout.

Elon “El Leon” de Jesus (4-1, 3 KOs) from Dunkirk, NY, made his professional debut on December 18, 2020.  Elon will fight in a six-round bantamweight bout.

WARRINGTON: KEEP ON F***ING DOUBTING ME!

Josh Warrington has warned his Featherweight rivals to underestimate him at their own peril ahead of his IBF World Title defence against Mandatory Challenger Luis Alberto Lopez at the First Direct Arena in Leeds this Saturday December 10, shown live worldwide on DAZN

The Leeds Warrior, who steps through the ropes for the first time since recapturing his IBF crown against Spain’s Kiko Martinez in March, feels that he was written off by many following his shock knockout loss to Mexico’s Mauricio Lara behind closed doors in February 2021.

“You don’t want to lose,” reflected Warrington. “It’s a division where fighters are constantly coming through and everyone is constantly trying to pull you back down because they want to be in your position. It’s like a game of snakes and ladders. It’s easier to just stay on top.

“It was a bit of a wakeup call was Mauricio Lara – the first one. I let my guard down. I had the Lara defeat and then all of a sudden it was, ‘he’s finished, he’s had his time in the sun’. That’s not the case. It was only a short time in the sun and I feel like I was just getting going.”

‘Bronco’ called out Warrington for a third fight following his impressive early stoppage win over Colombia’s Jose Sanmartin at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City in October. There is clearly no love lost between the pair – with 24-year-old Lara expressing his desire to retire Warrington from boxing in his post fight interview.

“People say he’s dangerous and he’s my boogeyman – f**k that, I know that with my head on it I can beat him easy. W**ker isn’t he – f***ing wanker. I went from number one in the world with Ring Magazine, BoxRec and all of this. I lost to him and then I was down in eighth and ninth.

“They were saying I was done. Guys who a few years ago when I won the World Title were nowhere to be seen. Now all of a sudden, they were above me. How does that work out? Keep on f***ing doubting me. I wasn’t supposed to win the British Title but now I’m a two-time World Champion.”

Warrington faces another dangerous Mexican on Saturday in the shape of 29-year-old Lopez (26-2 15 KOs). ‘El Venado’ is no stranger to fighting in the UK having punched his ticket to fight for the title by stopping Isaac Lowe in an eliminator clash in London in December.

Top Rank-promoted Lopez has stayed busy while waiting for his chance to tackle Warrington, notching stoppage wins in April and August, and has arrived in Leeds with ambitions to emulate the stunning KO win his fellow countryman Lara inflicted on Warrington last year.

“Luis Alberto Lopez is full of confidence,” said Warrington. “He’s showing the champ no respect whatsoever. We know he’s got power; we know he knows how to finish people. He strongly believes that he’s going to do what his Mexican friend Mauricio Lara did and come over here and blast me out. I’ve got other ideas.

“I feel the strongest I ever have done in my career. I’m sitting down on my punches a lot more. The power has always been there. I’ve never really focused on bringing it but now I am. I like them f***ing early nights to be honest with you. It won’t go the 12. I’m fully focused on doing a job and getting the show closed early.”

Warrington vs. Lopez tops a huge night of World Title action in Leeds; Ebanie Bridges (8-1, 3 KOs) defends her IBF Bantamweight World Title against Shannon O’Connell (23-6-1, 11 KOs) in a spicy all-Australian showdown, Wokingham Middleweight Felix Cash (15-0, 10 KOs) takes on Celso Nevez (9-2-2, 2 KOs) over eight rounds, Liverpool’s James Metcalf (23-2, 14 KOs) defends his WBA Continental Title against Brooklyn’s Courtney Pennington (16-5-3, 7 KOs), Leeds Super-Bantamweight prospect Koby McNamara (3-0) looks to go 4-0 against Nabil Ahmed (1-10-2), former World Champion Shannon Courtenay (7-2, 3 KOs) meets Bournemouth’s Gemma Ruegg (5-5, 1 KO) over eight rounds at Super-Bantamweight, Heckmondwike Lightweight Cory O’Regan (8-0) fights Shaun Cooper (13-4) over six rounds, Hopey Price (8-0, 3 KOs) aims to go 9-0 against Jonathan Santana (9-3-1, 1 KO) in front of his home crowd, Gateshead talent Calum French (3-0, 1 KO) looks to finish the year in style against Kurt Jackson (3-0) and Anthony Crolla-trained Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (5-0) opens the night’s action against Kristine Shergold (7-6-1, 1 KO).

GERVONTA DAVIS VS. HECTOR LUIS GARCIA WASHINGTON, D.C. PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 5, 2022 – Undefeated five-time world champion and boxing superstar Gervonta “Tank” Davis went face to face with unbeaten world champion Héctor Luis García at a press conference on Monday before they meet for Davis’ WBA Lightweight Title on Saturday, January 7 headlining a SHOWTIME PPV from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Davis has established himself as one of boxing’s hottest, must-see attractions, capturing five world titles through three divisions, and will need to dispatch the dangerous and streaking Héctor Luis García to pave the way for the recently announced blockbuster clash against unbeaten star Ryan Garcia in the spring of 2023.

Monday’s press conference also featured fighters who will be competing on the pay-per-view undercard telecast beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. In attendance Monday was unbeaten rising star Jaron “Boots” Ennis, who faces IBF No.4-rated welterweight Karen Chukhadzhian for the Interim IBF Welterweight Title, unbeaten welterweight contender Rashidi Ellis, who duels the hard-hitting Roiman Villa in a 12-round fight, and undefeated two-division world champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade and Laurel, Maryland-native Demond Nicholson, who clash in a 10-round super middleweight fight opening the pay-per-view.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com and capitalonearena.comThe Ennis vs. Chukhadzhian bout is promoted in association with D&D Boxing.

Here is what the fighters had to say Monday from The Hotel Washington:

GERVONTA DAVIS

“This is another event that we’re excited for. I’ve been working hard and I appreciate everybody that’s come out today. This is a stacked undercard, it almost feels like I’m back in the amateurs with all these great fighters.

“We’re gonna go back into training camp right after today because we’re not sleeping on this guy. I know we have two fights lined up, but I’m only focused on this one. I’m ready to go through everybody that’s in my way.

“This is really important for me. It’s huge to open up the opportunity for other fighters to showcase their skills on the big stage. When you make your mark in the sport, it’s about coming back and showing other people that it can happen for them.

“This is just me trying to get over that hump. I don’t think of it as a dream come true. I’m not where I want to be yet. This fight is the next step.

“It feels good to be back home. All the greats have fought here and now I get to come back home and put on a great event. I love getting everyone together to have a party. That’s what it is. We grind in the gym and a lot of people don’t see that, so when the big event comes, it’s time to show up.

“I’m just ready to shut everyone up. All the talking that’s going around, I just want to go in the ring and shut them all up.

“I’ve always been the guy who stays focused and knows that whoever is in front of me is a threat. We know that Garcia is coming. I’m watching him a lot. I know what they’re doing day in and day out.

“There are a lot of young fighters coming behind me and I just want to be able to give them the platform that they deserve.”

HECTOR LUIS GARCIA

“I’m very happy to be here in this position. I’ve worked extremely hard to make this my year. I’m going to make this a great show for the boxing fans and the Dominican Republic. My team is going to have me ready for this fight on January 7.

“I’m not fazed by anything people say. I know who I am and I know what to do. My preparation has been so good that I’m going to be ready to give 100%.

“I know that I have the height advantage, but I can adapt myself to the rhythm of my opponent. I know that I’m facing one of the best fighters out there, but I’m fully confident I have what it takes to win.

“I’m taking my normal approach to this fight. I’m a great fighter too and I have Olympic experience. We have no reason to change our preparation for this fight.

“If I beat ‘Tank’ on January 7, I’d be happy to go after a fight against Ryan Garcia. I don’t think he’s on the same level as me and Gervonta.

“I feel at home here. I’m sure that I’m going to get a lot of support for myself. Most importantly I’ll have my family here getting my back.

“We’re coming to make this a battle. Whether it’s toe-to-toe or he wants to move and box, me and my trainer are ready. We trust each other and that goes a long way in fights like these.

“I want to make my name in this sport and make it last a lot longer after I’m around. I’m taking it one fight at a time, but I have big goals that I’m looking to reach.”

JARON ENNIS

“Fighting on this card is everything. It’s my first time on pay-per-view and it’s a big moment for me. Philly isn’t too far down the road, so it’s basically going to be like fighting at home.

“It means a lot to put Philly on my back. You have to be a certain type of fighter to be a Philly fighter. We always find a way to win and that’s me.

“I definitely feel like I already should have had my world title shot. I’ve been calling out the champions for years. I’ve been ready and they’re just making it worse for themselves by making me wait longer.

“I love fighting in D.C. It’s going to be a beautiful night and an explosive fight. I’m coming for the knockout and I’m coming to do it in spectacular fashion.

“I’m not too familiar with my opponent, but I’m sure he’s a great fighter. He’ll bring that European style and try to make it hard for me, but I’m going to put on a show and get the knockout.

“I’m talented and strong. I work hard and do everything I’m supposed to do. I’m always one step ahead of these guys.

“Eventually the champions are going to have no choice but to fight me. If it’s not the champions next, then I’ll take a Keith Thurman or a Yordenis Ugas fight in a heartbeat.

“We prepare for everything, not just one way of fighting. We have some European guys in our camp so that I can prepare for that style. It’s not going to be anything new to me.”

RASHIDI ELLIS

“I’m excited to be back. I hear I’m facing a tough fighter, so I’m just motivated to be back in a tough fight.

“I’m just happy to be back and kick some ass on January 7. Now I get to showcase my talent and be more active. The more active I am, the better Rashidi Ellis that you’re going to see.

“I’m just training hard and getting ready for a big fight. I’m like a kid going to the park when it’s time to fight.

“The goal is to take over the division in 2023. It starts with this fight. I just have to be ready for my opponent, because I’m sure he’s going to be extremely motivated, just like I am.

“We were frustrated with some of the time off, but we just kept training and doing what we had to do.

“This is going to be a great show from top to bottom. Being on pay-per-view, it’s a great opportunity to show off my talent.

“I just can’t wait to fight. I know that my time is coming. I just have to take it one fight at a time and display my talent.

“My great boxing ability, my IQ and my speed is going to let me pick my opponent apart.”

DEMETRIUS ANDRADE

“I’m feeling good. This is a new journey. I’m looking to become a three-division champion. I’m thankful to have this opportunity to showcase my skill and talent on this beautiful card.

“At the end of the day, nothing guarantees a Canelo Alvarez fight. Right now I’m looking at Caleb Plant, David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo. I want all those big names.

“SHOWTIME is a great place to be. I’ve had my journey through my boxing career and now I’m writing my own chapter. January 7 is an opportunity to do what I do best.

“There are a lot of great fights that can be made at 168 pounds and I’m looking to make them. This is a great position right now for me to make those fights.

“My experience and my amateur pedigree will be the difference. My IQ, my talent and my skill overall are going to be huge for me.

“I’m ready to tangle. We both said yes to the fight, and may the best man win. At the end of the day we’re both going to bring our best to the table.

“I’m looking to show that I’m the best. Let’s make this happen. There’s no more excuses. This fight is a stepping stone toward making those things happen and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

“I did my thing at 154 and 160 and now I want to move on to this journey at super middleweight and make it happen.”

DEMOND NICHOLSON

“This is probably the biggest fight of my career, so I’m just looking forward to seeing Andrade in that ring. It’s going to be a hell of a fight.

“I have to take advantage of his age. I’ve got the advantage with youth and I have to use that to help me in this fight.

“My home is 15 minutes away from here, so the support I’m going to receive is going to be drastic. It’s going to be full of my friends and family. It’s time to put on a show and really get my name in the books. This is really my chance.

“I’m 100% healthy right now. It’s time to really go full-fledged forward. I’m feeling great right now.

“This fight with Andrade is bigger than Benavidez if you look at it from boxing and skills wise. For me this is like fighting Canelo. It’s a big fight.

“For me it’s about working smarter and believing in myself and my team. I just have to go out there and do what I do best.”

CALVIN FORD, Davis’ Trainer

“This fight is important to us. We’re trying to take the hardest fights. Hector is coming to fight. He’s had two impressive wins and is a real world champion. This is a fight that we asked for. I always say that the road to success is through D.C., and now we’re here.

“We can’t sleep on Garcia. He’s got a great team and we’re going to be up for the task. Gervonta is going to make everyone remember him. We don’t talk, we just show y’all.

“The only thing on my mind is Hector Luis Garcia. He’s bringing a lot to the table. People know he’s the real deal. Hector is standing in front of us. We have so much pain and we need to release it before we go to the next level.

“They don’t want to give him his props, but that’s good. We’re from the mud and we know how to play in the mud.

“Gervonta is coming into the man that we’ve been training for years. We understand that this fight is the main fight toward the other fight. I’m talking to a grown man now. I’ve been with him for so many years, and it’s so amazing to see him go from a kid to a grown man.”

BOB SANTOS, Garcia’s Trainer

“We’re really thrilled to go against pound-for-pound one of the best fighters in the world. We’re excited about the opportunity.

“We haven’t done anything different than what we’ve done in the past. Everyone should really tune into this fight, because it’s going to be an all-time classic. At this point, Gervonta is the best 135-pounder in the world.

“This fight reminds me of Joel Casamayor vs. Diego Corrales and I’m expecting that kind of performance. I know that these fighters are going to bring the best out of each other.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZAPresident, Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.

“2022 has been an exciting year for SHOWTIME BOXING. As strong a year as it was, I think 2023 will be bigger and better. There’s no better way to kick off the year than with Gervonta Davis, the hottest young star in the sport.

“There’s one fighter at lightweight who stands out above all others, and that’s Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. He’s sold out arenas in Baltimore, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York City, and I’m sure we’ll be adding Washington D.C. to the list shortly. There is no other fighter doing what Gervonta is doing.

“Few fighters have made such a big impact in such a short amount of time as Hector Luis Garcia has in 2022. Garcia pulled off a huge upset over Chris Colbert, with a dominating performance. Then he followed it up with another dominating performance to win the title. Few fighters have had a better year than him. He’s big, he’s tough and he has a strong amateur background. Above all, he’s not intimidated by anyone.

“January 7 is a card stacked with top names in meaningful fights. All of these fighters on one card is going to be a late Christmas present to the fans. In my mind, this is as strong of a pay-per-view card as we’ve had in recent memory.

“This is a great fight town and I know that they will be supporting this event. This will be the biggest fight night in the city since Mike Tyson fought here 15 years ago, and you cannot miss it. We’ll see you on January 7.”

On what a win will do for her career:

“I was a part of women’s MMA when it was a new thing, and BLK Prime gives me the same feeling as some of the great companies like Strikeforce, when I was on my rise. I want to headline a card on BLK Prime in the future and I am excited that they are allowing the fighters to take control of their career. Kicking off the pay-per-view telecast at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, undefeated two-division world champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade steps into the ring for a 10-round super middleweight clash against Laurel, Maryland-native Demond Nicholson.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com and capitalonearena.comThe Ennis vs. Chukhadzhian bout is promoted in association with D&D Boxing.

“With a blockbuster main even matchup, it is fitting that the pay-per-view undercard will be jam-packed from top to bottom with some of the sport’s best and most intriguing fighters in high-stakes clashes,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Jaron Ennis, Demetrius Andrade and Rashidi Ellis have all shown off their immense talent throughout their careers and will all look to take important steps on January 7 in Washington, D.C. Ennis is one of the sport’s bright young stars and will be looking to move even closer to a world title fight, while Ellis is deep into his own ascent on the 147-pound crown. Kicking off the telecast is the dangerous two-division champion Andrade, who can send a message to the rest of the 168-pound division when he opens the pay-per-view. This card is lined up to deliver from open to close and has all the makings of a night of non-stop action.”

Ennis (29-0, 27 KOs) is the latest in the pantheon of outstanding Philadelphia fighters, combining elite boxing skills with natural power in both hands. After two appearances on SHOBOX: The New Generation®, the 25-year-old Ennis graduated to headlining his first SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast in April 2021, as he became the first fighter to stop former world champion Sergey Lipinets. He followed up that performance with an impressive first-round stoppage of Thomas Dulorme in October of that year, before most recently blasting out Custio Clayton in two rounds in May in his ninth appearance on SHOWTIME®. The knockout victory gave Ennis 19 KOs in his last 20 fights, with the only blemish being a no-decision in the first round against Chris van Heerden in December 2020.

“I can’t wait to start 2023 off right by putting on another explosive performance for my fans,” said Ennis. “I respect all my opponents and am training harder than ever to come out victorious on January 7 to move one step closer to becoming world champion. Next year is going to be the most significant year of my career and it all starts with this fight. My time is now.”

The 26-year-old Chukhadzhian (21-1, 11 KOs) rose up the IBF rankings with a pair of stoppage victories in 2022, dispatching of Ryan Martin in eight rounds in January prior to retiring Blake Minto after six rounds in July. A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Chukhadzhian now fights out of Germany as he prepares to make his U.S. debut on January 7. The only blemish on his record came in his second pro fight, a three-round split-decision loss in a tournament-style bout.

“When the offer to fight Jaron Ennis came to us, we immediately agreed,” said Chukhadzhian. “Ennis is a very good boxer. However, both Armenian and Ukrainian blood flows through my veins, and I’m not traveling to the U.S. for a check, but with the goal of showing that all of the hard work we put in was not in vain. We are preparing in the gym, where there is no water and light because of the war. But what doesn’t break us only makes us stronger. I’m confident I will have my hand raised on January 7!”

The 29-year-old Ellis (24-0, 15 KOs) returned to the ring for the first time since October 2020 in July, blasting out Jose Marruffo in the first round. His previous outing had seen him earn an impressive unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Alexis Rocha. Originally from Lynn, Mass., Ellis also owns a pair of victories over veteran contender Eddie Gomez, including a first-round knockout over Gomez in December 2016, before winning by unanimous decision in their 2019 rematch.

“I’m grateful to be stepping into the ring on such a big card to show off my talents,” said Ellis. “I want to thank my whole team for this opportunity and I can’t wait to make the most of it on January 7. I’m ready to go out and accomplish my goals. I’m coming to take care of the welterweight division one fight at a time.”

A native of Rosario, Venezuela, Villa (25-1, 24 KOs) earned a career-best victory in his most recent bout, as he made a memorable U.S. debut by dropping the previously unbeaten Janelson Bocachica on his way to a unanimous decision in a September edition of SHOBOX: The New Generation. The 29-year-old has fought professionally since 2015, scoring knockouts in all of his first 24 victories prior to the decision in his last bout. The only blemish on Villa’s record came via a narrow split-decision against Marcos Villasana in a 12-round 2019 bout.

“I am having a great training camp right now and preparing to be at my very best on January 7,” said Villa. “I’m looking forward to being able to show all my power and preparation in my next fight against Rashidi Ellis. This is my chance to show that I’m going to be a world champion in the welterweight division.”

A 2008 U.S. Olympian® from Providence, Rhode Island, Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) has captured world titles at 154 and 160-pounds as he now embarks toward becoming a three-division world champion. The 34-year-old captured the 154-pound title with a 2013 victory over Vanes Martirosyan and went on to defend the belt four times before moving up to middleweight. At 160-pounds, Andrade won a dominant decision over Walter Kautondokwa in October 2018 to win a vacant world title, before putting together a string of five consecutive title defenses, including most recently stopping Jason Quigley in two rounds in November 2021.

“My goal right now is to become a three-division world champion,” said Andrade. “Super middleweight is a stacked division with more characters to make some great fights for the fans. I hope Demond Nicholson has a safe camp and brings his very best to the table so that we can have a great showing on this card. I’m ready to display my talent and skill on my journey to becoming a three-division world champion.”

Currently riding a three-bout winning streak, Nicholson (26-4-1, 22 KOs) will look to impress on the big stage not far from his hometown of Laurel, Maryland. The 29-year-old’s current run came after a 2021 decision defeat against Edgar Berlanga, and most recently saw him stop Christopher Brooker in August.

“This is a great opportunity for me to attack my dreams,” said Nicholson. “A win on January 7 is going to get me closer to accomplishing the goals I have in this lifetime. I am ready for anything my opponent is going to bring to the ring, so the fans should expect a great fight for as long as this one lasts.”

Mike Ohan, Jr. embracing underdog role this Saturday against U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson

QUINCY, Mass. (December 5, 2022) – Preparing to be the underdog for the first time in his professional career, former New England Welterweight Champion Mike “Bad Man:” Ohan, Jr. (16-1, 9 KOs) will embrace that role this Saturday 2020 U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson (6-0, 4 KOs) at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Johnson vs. Ohan, Jr. is a scheduled 8-round welterweight match streaming live on ESPN+ on a Top Rank card, headlined by a Heisman Night fight featuring Teofimo Lopez against Jose Pedraza.

“This may not be his territory,” Ohan said, “but it is his promoter’s show. I need to knock him off and maybe grab his spot.  I’m sure that as an Olympian he has seen everything, so I need to execute my game plan. I won’t be thinking about winning or losing, I need to give it all I have and leave it all in the ring.”

Johnson reached the quarterfinals at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, in which he lost to 3-time Cuban Olympic boxer Roniel Iglesias (30-43), 29-28. Iglesias went on to capture his second Olympic gold medal.

“Mike got to this stage the hard way,” Ohan’s promoter Chris Traietti (Granite Chin Promotions) noted. “Nothing was given to him. He stayed busy on the local level, sometimes taking fights at not the most prestigious venues, but he doesn’t get caught up with the glitz and glamour, or lack thereof. He stuck to the plan, worked hard, and now he’s getting his just reward. December 10th, the boxing world will witness the breakout moment in Mike Ohan Jr’s career.”

Because the fight date is so close to Thanksgiving, Ohan, Jr. couldn’t really stuff himself like most people did.

“I had to sacrifice,” the 28-year-old Ohan, Jr admitted. “I just ate some white meat and some carbs. It was my normal regiment but no dessert. I’m saving that for Christmas.”

Christmas could come early this year for the underdog, Mike “Bad Man” Ohan.

LIVE VIDEO: Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Luis Garcia: Kick-Off Press Conference | January 7th on SHOWTIME PPV

FIVE-TIME WORLD CHAMPION GERVONTA DAVIS  TO KICK OFF 2023 WITH BLOCKBUSTER SHOWTIME PPV® IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 5, 2022 – Undefeated five-time world champion and boxing superstar Gervonta “Tank” Davis will make his highly anticipated return to the nation’s capital to defend his WBA World Lightweight Title against unbeaten world champion Héctor Luis García on Saturday, January 7, headlining a SHOWTIME PPV from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Davis has established himself as one of boxing’s hottest, must-see attractions, capturing five world titles through three divisions with dramatic knockouts and selling out arenas from Los Angeles to Atlanta to New York. The Baltimore-native will return to fight in D.C. for the first time since 2016, when he headlines against the dangerous and streaking Héctor Luis García, needing a win to pave the way for the recently announced blockbuster clash against unbeaten star Ryan Garcia in the spring of 2023.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com and capitalonearena.com.

“SHOWTIME® is coming out of the gate strong in 2023 with this hard-hitting card headlined by the sport’s most vibrant star, Gervonta Davis,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “Gervonta could have taken a softer touch before meeting Ryan Garcia in the spring. Instead, he’s facing a strong candidate for the 2022 Fighter of the Year in the dangerous Hector Luis Garcia and giving back to his fans with this tremendous matchup. We’re thrilled to return to the nation’s capital for the first time since 2016 for what should be an unforgettable start to the New Year for boxing fans.”

“We’re ready to welcome boxing back to the big stage in the DMV region after 17 years,” said Jordan Silberman, General Manager, Capital One Arena. “It’s an honor to host ‘Tank’, a Baltimore native, and Héctor Luis García for what will no doubt be a special night at Capital One Arena.”

Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) currently holds the WBA Lightweight Title and will attempt his fourth defense when he meets Hector Luis Garcia. Davis delivered yet another highlight reel performance in his last bout, blasting out the previously unbeaten Rolando Romero with a powerful left hand in the sixth round of their May 2022 encounter.

In 2021, Davis became a three-division world champion by capturing a 140-pound title with a brilliant stoppage over then-unbeaten Mario Barrios, before turning away top lightweight contender Isaac Cruz in a successful December 5 title defense. In October 2020, Davis scored a sensational knockout over Leo Santa Cruz, making him the first person to ever drop the four-division champion. Davis’ elite ability, coupled with his explosive knockout power, has made him a rising force in the sport ever since bursting onto the scene with an explosive knockout victory over Jose Pedraza in 2017. Boasting a knockout rate over 92%, Davis captured his lightweight championship with a 12th-round KO of former unified champion Yuriorkis Gamboa in December 2019.

“I’m very excited to be fighting again in the DMV,” said Davis. “I can’t wait to see all my day one supporters, family, friends, and fans come together for a big fight party. My opponent is an Olympian® and a world champion who’s proven to the boxing world that he is a tremendous competitor. I’m in camp working hard and I’ll be ready on January 7 to make this a statement fight for all my future opponents. Make sure you get your tickets now, because this fight is going to be a sellout for sure! Keep supporting me and I’ll fight for you!”

The WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Héctor Luis García (16-0, 10 KOs) is coming off a spectacular 2022 highlighted by two marquee victories. García has fought professionally since December of 2016 after a stellar amateur career that included representing his native Dominican Republic in the 2016 Olympics® and a runner-up finish at the 2015 Pan-Am Games in Toronto.

Now training in Las Vegas under the watchful eye of respected trainer Bob Santos, García scored one of the biggest upsets of 2022 in February, when he dropped and defeated then-unbeaten Chris Colbert. In August, García captured the world title with a one-sided unanimous decision over incumbent Roger Gutierrez, making him a strong candidate for Fighter of the Year honors. The 31-year-old stands at 5-foot-9 and will own a sizeable height advantage over Davis when he makes his lightweight debut on January 7.

“I want to thank my whole team, along with Gervonta Davis, for the opportunity to face one of the best fighters in the world,” said García. “This is going to elevate my game and ultimately, it’s going to give the fans an all-time classic that they won’t forget. On January 7, Gervonta Davis and I are going to produce a war that is going to go down as one of the great fights in history and will solidify my name with the greats.”

The pay-per-view telecast is produced and distributed by SHOWTIME PPV and marks the return of SHOWTIME BOXING® to the Capital One Arena location for the first time since June 11, 2005, for Mike Tyson’s farewell fight with Kevin McBride. KELLY MASTERCLASS CROWNS HIM BRITISH CHAMPION

Last night, it was Josh Kelly’s (12-1-1, 7 KOs) world and we were just living in it. A flawless performance from the Sunderland man saw him make light work of a tremendously gifted opponent in the dethroned Troy Williamson (19-1-1, 14 KOs). However, the British Super Welterweight Championship is making its way to Sunderland with ‘PBK’ after a truly phenomenal performance, scored 118-110, 119-109 and119-111 by the judges, live on Channel 5 from the Utilita Arena, Newcastle.

Kelly was consistently in a ‘flow state’ from the opening bell as he was loose and fluid both defensively and offensively. It was as predicted by fans and pundits as Williamson wasn’t quite prepared for the quick start and vicious speed possessed by his opponent. The left hook from Kelly caused problems throughout the night as it often landed flush whenever thrown, followed by a right uppercut, which proved to be a damning combination.

Williamson never once backed down from the uphill task of trying to keep his belt and close down Kelly. After being dominated in the first round, he was immediately back off his stool to step towards ‘PBK’ and look to shut him down. Kelly proved to be far too switched on for Williamson to land any substantial blows however as the Sunderland man remained confident in circling his opponent from the outside.

The mature performance from the new champion, Kelly, was epitomised in the fifth round as a left hook and right hook had Troy scrambled for a moment. With a slight quiver in his opponent’s legs, Kelly was in no rush to blindly seek a finish. He remained aggressive and aware of any opportunity to present itself, but this was a different fighter existing in his own bubble on the night and he remained in control of his emotions and dictated the bout.

It was more otherworldly moments from Kelly in the seventh round, reincarnating into Muhammad Ali 2.0 briefly as the rope-a-dope style evasion had the arena in awe. His confidence carried him in full control all the way towards the end of the fight as he remained calm, cool and collected with every second of every round.

With questions regarding his gas tank being asked in the build up to this, the eleventh round certainly answered them all as well as the fact he opted to stand between rounds and pace around the ring. He was still spritely, and still so loose and active as he pulled out another tried and tested left hook with a right uppercut. Another mainstay in the fight was Kelly’s movement, constantly snapping jabs at lovely angles to then use his footwork to slide out of the way and leave Williamson turning to find him once again.

In the final round, the Channel 5 commentary team declared this a masterclass from Kelly, which it absolutely was. There was nothing that could have been done on Williamson’s part last night with the type of fighter he faced in front of him. Credit to Williamson who will certainly be back and incredibly likely to hold the Lonsdale belt again having suffered his first defeat in the professional ranks. For Josh Kelly, this is the beginning of something special.

Josh Kelly

“The performance felt that smooth, and that much like it was the way it was supposed to go, I’m saying to Adam “Can you snap me out of this dream”. That was support from all sides tonight with some Middlesbrough fans, some Newcastle fans and some Sunderland fans; but the North East turned out.  This British title means so much to me, oh my god, all that hard work’s paid off baby!”

“What gas tank? That’s cancelled. I feel like I can go and do another five or ten rounds there. I boxed to instructions, boxed clever, boxed safe, boxed tidy and didn’t take no risks; and that’s what the outcome turns out like. Troy was meant to come and do a demolition job on me, he’s a hard-punching knockout artist in the Super Welterweight division. There’s a new name now, there was always the name actually, but it has come into play now. Josh Kelly, baby.”

“A massive happy birthday to my trainer Adam Booth as well. Massive respect to Troy and all his team and fans too, all that online stuff is just online stuff. We’re cool, Troy’s a very hard and strong competitor, but I want to take the time to thank everyone who has stuck behind me and been loyal. My dad, my mum, my family; everybody man.”

“Thank you Channel 5 and everyone for all their support. Merry Christmas everyone, we’re going to have a good one this year.”

Kalle Sauerland

“There’s good boxers, there’s very good boxers, and then there’s special boxers. I’m so proud of Josh, all those critics had their words stuffed right back down their throats after them 12 rounds tonight. The sky is the limit for him, like Adam (Booth) said, he’s not just good he’s special. There’s a reason why there was so much hype surrounding him at the beginning of his career; the hype train is back on.”

“It’s going to be an amazing journey next year, we’re just very excited. I want to enjoy tonight first but there’s huge domestic fights available to us, this is world level though. What we saw tonight was world class. This has been a long time coming, tonight he proved all the doubters wrong in the best possible way. I’m so proud of him, and Adam, absolute professionals in the way they’ve gone about it as always. What Josh did tonight was a masterclass against a very dangerous opponent, do not underestimate him because he’ll be back I’m sure; but Josh Kelly is special.”

Adam Booth

“I’ve said from the first day that he’s the most talented fighter I’ve ever worked with. The only person who beat Josh Kelly up until now was Josh Kelly, he had to overcome monumental mental issues. We have now started to unearth the potential that lies in this man; he is going to be something special.”

“I’m only interested in working with the best, and he’s only interested with being the best.”

The event takes place at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb. on December 10.

Crawford vs. Avanesyan, a 12-round WBO welterweight world title clash, will stream live on BLK Prime and across all cable and satellite outlets for the price of $39.99. Here is what Baez had to say about his training camp, his matchup Khegai, fighting on BLK Prime PPV, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“I’m grinding. Camp has been great, no secrets other than hard work. I enter the gym and leave with a shirt that is drenched in sweat, go home, change and jog and have even more clothes that I cover sweat. I’m an old school kind of guy, just working extremely hard in the gyn to be in the best shape on fight night.”

On his matchup with Arnold Khaegai:

“I like his style. I think he is an exciting fighter. I hope he comes to lay it on the line and give the fans a good fight. I think he knows how good I am, and I know he is talented as well. I personally think we are going to steal the show, as this a battle of two warriors who have fought at the highest level in the sport. I’m expecting a gruesome war.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“I feel I am close to the top of the featherweight division. A win here helps me stay the course, and continue to get profitable opportunities, against big name fighters. A lot of the champions are leaving the featherweight division, so I am eager to face the new challengers and compete for a world title with a victory.”

On making his debut on BLK Prime PPV:

“I love it. BLK Prime is investing in the fighters. They have made it easy to purchase the event, and they’re giving us fighters another network to compete on. I can’t express the gratitude I have for BLK Prime for putting me on this card and giving me a chance on such a big event.”

DAVID LIGHT EDGES CONTROVERSIAL WAR OF ATTRITION ON PROBOX TV: RESULTS FROM TAMPA, FL

The early rounds saw Light land solid clean work from the outside, but it was Glanton getting the better of the exchanges on the inside, and seemingly winning the rounds based on workrate alone.

As the fight progressed, the fight centered around the battle of the inside, with both men not looking to give an inch working on the inside. Light landed good shots, however, it was Glanton who was pushing the tempo, and seemingly having the more effective work, culminating in a tenth round knockdown.

Despite the knockdown, it was David Light. 20-0, 12KOs, who emerged with the split decision victory, with the judges scoring the fight 95-94, 97-92, 94-95, giving the New Zealander a somewhat surprising split decision victory. Glanton suffers the first loss of his career in controversial style, as he moves to 17-1, 14KOs.

Marques Valle moves to 7-0, 6KOs as the referee brought his contest to a halt at 2.22 of round number 2, disqualifying Luis Sanchez, now 9-4, 6KOs, due to persistent holding.

Canadian based Mohammed Soumaoro 12-1, 5KOs outmanned previously undefeated Jusiyah Shirley, 7-1, 6KOs, over 6 rounds, with the elder man showing he was physically stronger as he dominated the center of the ring, emerging with a unanimous decision victory. Cards read 60-54. 58-56, 59-55.

Top Rank’s Kelvin Davis opened the broadcast against previously undefeated Jalen Hill, with Davis showing his class prior to an apparent injury for Hill which caused the stoppage. Davis moves to 7-0 5KOs with a TKO victory at the time of 1.31 of round number 4. Hill drops to 5-1, 4KOs.

On the non televised portion of the card, the Puerto Rican duo of Jaycob Gomez and Jan Paul Rivera both recorded unanimous decision points victories.

STEVEN “SO COLD” NELSON TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

OMAHA, NEBRASKA (December 2 , 2022) – Undefeated prospect Steven Nelson (17-0, 14 KOs), of Omaha, NE, is ready to square off against James Ballard (10-4, 3 KOs), on the Crawford vs. Avanesyan card taking place at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb. on December 10. Nelson vs. Ballard is scheduled for eight rounds in the light heavyweight division.

Crawford vs. Avanesyan, a 12-round WBO welterweight world title clash, will stream live on the BLK Prime app and across all cable and satellite outlets for the price of $39.99. BLK Prime, a Silicon Valley-based tech company, is a subscription video-on-demand platform that utilizes elite technology to bring the best picture-perfect stream available. The telecast will begin at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

Nelson is fighting for the first time since a TKO victory over DeAndre Ware in September of 2020 following a torn Achilles tendon. A U.S. Army veteran, Nelson spent eight years working in satellite communications with the 7th Special Forces Group and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008-2009. He then joined the Army’s World Class Athlete Program boxing team and was stationed in Colorado Springs prior to beginning his professional career.

He is training alongside his lifelong friend and fellow Omaha native Crawford in their Colorado Springs training base in preparation for December 10. Here is what Nelson had to say about his training camp, his matchup with Ballard, fighting at home on BLK Prime PPV, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“Training camp has been going great. This is one of many camps that we’ve done together in Colorado Springs, but seeing how motivated Bud is and how hard he pushed us has made this camp really special for all of us. I’m coming off a torn Achilles that had me sidelined for two years, so I cannot wait to step back in the ring. It really feels like it is our team against the world. Bud and the coaches have made me step up my game. If you aren’t strong enough, you are not going to make it in this camp.”

On his matchup with James Ballard:

“I am going to smash Ballard, respectfully of course. I have had some setbacks, but I am one of the best fighters in my division. I am looking to win this fight and go after fighters like Edgar Berlanga and many others who have been avoiding me. I am taking Ballard extremely seriously, but I fully expect to stop him.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“Once I am victorious on December 10, I want all the top contenders in the division. But to do so, I have to put on a great performance in Omaha and remind the boxing world who I am. This reminds me of how I felt prior to the Reyes Diaz fight when I stopped him. He basically retired after that fight, and that is the type of performance I am going to do on December 10th. I am going to win and target all the big-name fighters.”

On fighting on BLK Prime PPV at home:

“This is the first time I’ll be fighting on PPV, so I’m very excited. Seeing the type of love BLK Prime is showing Bud, made me a fan. They’re putting the fighters first, and I know the fans will get behind them, because they have good intentions and are paying the fighters for risking their lives. Getting the chance to fight at home on this BLK Prime PPV card is a blessing. I’m expecting a lot of hometown supporters and people I have met worldwide during my military career to be in attendance. The CHI Health Center is going to be electrifying on fight night.”

Friday, December 2, FIGHT NIGHT, Doors Open 6 pm, First Bout:  7 pm

CHANN THONSON

“I am feeling great and very confident. I just finished my second Las Vegas training camp where everything is very intense and prepared me well for this fight. Sparring got aggressive and a little heated at times, like a doghouse which is different than the guy I am fighting on Friday – he is a little flatfooted and not as aggressive. Having all of that intensity coming my way has made me really sharp and stay on my toes.  I have always been a boxer first but in this camp we utilized a lot of walking guys down so it made my power blossom and I plan to show that along with the boxing skills.

“The first time I sparred with those guys it felt like holding jackhammer for the first time and being like ‘oh, snap.’ It was a little overwhelming. The second time sparring I went in with a different attitude and was able to embrace the jackhammer and hang with the guys using mental toughness. It showed me what it was like to be a champion. It was an amazing experience.

“I don’t fight for the knockout.  I am not going to go in there swinging, but this fight I want to knock him out. That’s what I am going to get, the KO, behind my boxing of course. I have nine knockouts, and knocked out an undefeated fighter two fights ago, which was impressive to me, but I never utilized my power as I have in this camp. It’s going to be very interesting to me – if it goes past three, I will be surprised, but not a good surprised.”

ESNEIKER CORREA, Los Teques, Venezuela, 15-2-1, 13 KO’s

“Cuevas he is a fighter and I cannot underestimate him.  I know he is coming to fight and if he comes to fight hard, he is going to get knocked out. If he just wants to box, I win by decision. I come from the streets of Venezuela and had nothing. This is a life changer fight for me. A win for me will change everything. It will take me to the next level financially then I can take care of my family.”

DERRIECK “Pretty Boy” CUEAVAS, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, 23-1-1, 15 KO’s

“I don’t know much about my opponent, but I know he’s a tough fighter and he comes to fight and I’ll be ready for whatever he brings. I have not fought for a while – it’s been two years and I want to make the most of this opportunity. I had been soft training for two years then going hard and more disciplined the last five months training and sparing with Olympians and top guys. On Friday you will see a KO from Cuevas because I am excited, and I am ready, and it will be over in two or three. After the KO I want the big names and big fights.”

TREVOR THONSON, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 6-0, 6 KOs

Trevor is originally from Quebec.  He fell behind his brother career wise due to the birth of his child.  When she became two and a half, he returned to boxing and ramped it up. “I won a few tournaments in Quebec, and since I am of Jamaican descent, I got my citizenship and went there to train for the national team. I won the nationals there then waited two years for the pandemic to die down for the Olympics to happen. It didn’t die down so I went to Miami to train with my brother.  Now I am 6-0 coming off a beautiful win with my best knockout to date.

“Now I train at Split T in Las Vegas, been out there for 5 months getting the work in. Vegas is one of the highest level of training camps because many world champions and highly ranked fighters are there.

“My opponent is a southpaw so I just have to be a little bit smarter and adjust and I think we can get him out of there in 4 or 5. I’ll be looking to hit him with a straight right or a left hook but my best punch is the overhand right – right over the top down the middle.  Once the distance is there, it will land and it will be over.”

VIDEO: Juan Francisco Estrada vs Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez 3 Press Conference

ESTRADA VS. CHOCOLATITO FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn:

“Welcome to everybody here in Phoenix ahead of probably one of the nights that I’ve looked most forward to this year. Of course, fight fans around the world who know that in boxing it’s very difficult to get two modern-day greats together. These two are about to do it for the third time. One of the greatest trilogies of our generation sees Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez faceoff against Juan Estrada, this Saturday in Phoenix, here at the Desert Diamond Arena and live on DAZN around the world for a multitude of belts, but more importantly, to settle the score. One apiece, two tremendous fighters, and we’re about to see an incredible fight this weekend.

“The undercard from top to bottom, I feel like one of the strongest we’ve seen this year. So many great fights to unveil. Julio Cesar Martinez, the WBC Flyweight World champion, had his issues in the past, back looking tremendous with Eddy Reynoso, against one of our Spanish stars in Samuel Carmona, undefeated former Olympian. Great run for Spanish boxing now, Kiko Martinez and Sandor Martin and others, he has a chance to become World champion on Saturday. Joselito Velasquez, another one of Eddy Reynoso’s charges, is in a great fight against the former WBC World champion, Christopher Rosales.

“So many great fighters making their way in the sport, ready to emerge as World champions. Diego Pacheco, just 21 years of age, about to become a huge headline star has his toughest test against Adrian Luna. 15-0, ready to make his way in the Super-Middleweight division. Austin “Ammo” Williams; been a revelation. These are two guys that signed with us when we started our journey here in America. One win away against Simon Madsen from a big World championship eliminator in the Middleweight division in 2023.

“Marc Castro, forgot how many times he was National Champion. In my opinion, one of the greatest prospects in world boxing. Trying to go 9-0 this weekend, again stepping up in his toughest test.

“Beatriz Ferreira, who is so fond of, one of the greatest amateurs of our generation. World champion Gold medal, Olympic Silver medalist, just fought a couple of weeks ago in Cleveland, steps up in a huge fight for her at this stage in her career against Carisse Brown.

“This card, top to bottom, full of action, live on DAZN around the world.”

Ammo Williams
“I’m very thankful for my opponent, Simon Madsen, because we got kind of close to the fight and we couldn’t lock anything down and for me to get somebody who will be a challenge, an undefeated fighter, that’s going to be great on my record. It’s amazing, it’s so amazing, and it shows a lot of heart from him, but I still must do what I must do on Saturday night. As Eddie said, I’m so close to winning the World title. 2023 is a huge year and he’s an obstacle in front of me, so y’all are going to see that same dangerous, explosive Ammo on Saturday night.

“It’s complete focus on Simon Madsen because this must be a statement to show Felix Cash what he’s really signing up for. Everybody thinks I’m young in the game, don’t have as much experience, but now, after this big 2022 and to finish it off with a great fight like this, I don’t see myself being anywhere behind Felix Cash and I’m going to make a statement that’s going to make him think twice about the fight, I promise that.”

Simon Madsen
“I’m very thankful for this opportunity. It’s a huge step up for me and I took this fight on a short notice but I’m happy I got this opportunity because I feel like I’m ready. I’m ready to put on a great fight and make a surprise and thank you for giving me the opportunity.”

Marc Castro
“We’re just trying to inspire kids and show them they can make it from wherever they are from. This Saturday I go against a tough opponent, but I put in the work every day in the gym, so this is just another stepping-stone for my career and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here.

“It’s special being a part of the trilogy, of the undercard of Estrada and Chocolatito. They’re both legends in their own making and it’s just surreal. Especially if they’re fighting a third time, I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Carisse Brown
“Unfortunately, my opponent hurt her wrist for the Australian fight, but it is a huge, huge honor and blessing to be able to get called short notice for this fight. Shoutout to Jesus Escalera of T&K Boxing Promotions, my promoter, as well as Eddie Hearn for allowing me to be able fight on this card and take a big step up for females out there, even the young girls, for them to see what they can accomplish in this sport.

“One thing about me is my life has been nothing but a fight, but every day is a fight, so I’m prepared, I’m ready, and there’s nothing that I’m not willing to take the challenge on. I’m ready.”

Beatriz Ferreira
“My first fight was incredible; it was very new for me. I liked it a lot, I’m very excited for the second. I believe I gave a great show the first fight, it was a great spectacle for the public, and this time will be the same.

“I’m moving forward with force and speed. All the fights are going to be that way.”

Ricardo Adrian Luna
“I feel strong, I feel motivated. I’m anxious. I also want to thank Pacheco. The day after tomorrow we’re going to deliver an excellent fight and I’m going to get the bigger victory, which I deserve after so many opportunities.”

Diego Pacheco
“I’m very happy to be here. I’m excited to be a part of this big event with these legends who are sitting right behind me. The work has been put in. I want to thank my coach, Benavidez, the entire team in Seattle. We put in all the work and we’re ready to shine this Saturday. You guys, tune in, it’s going to be an amazing show.

“This year was a great run for me. I have three knockouts and I’m looking for the fourth one come Saturday night. I’m looking to end the year on a great knockout, a great win, and get ready for next year to take on the big fights, big challenges, and really take over the sport.”

Christopher Rosales
“I’m anxious, we want to move forward in our career. We know what it’s like to be at the top, to be a champion, and so what we want to do is recover what is ours and go back to where we belong. We are coming in well prepared in the best conditions to deliver the best fight possible this Saturday and position us toward a World title opportunity, whether it’s against El Gallo, or Roman; anyone.”

Joselito Velasquez
“This is a big fight. It’s a big opportunity, and it’s going to position me to be a contender, so I’m prepared very well. It’s going to be a big fight that I’m going to demonstrate this Saturday.”

Eddy Reynoso
On Velasquez: “He is a good fighter. He has a lot of experience in the amateurs. He struggled a bit in the professionals because he hasn’t been given good opportunities, but he’s been pushing forward and working hard to walk away with his hand raised this Saturday.

On Julio Cesar Martinez: “It’s been a tough year after that loss against Chocolatito, but he’s made some adjustments. He’s more disciplined than ever before and he’s coming well prepared. There was about three or four months where fights were falling through, but he learned from that loss against Chocolatito. It served him well and you’re going to see a better Julio Cesar Martinez.”

Samuel Carmona
“With regard to the title opportunity, I’m very grateful. It’s going to be a good fight. And I don’t just have eight fights like people may think. I have more than 200 amateur fights. I also had 20 fights in the world series, so I’m an expert in this and I’m going to show it on Saturday.”

Julio Cesar Martinez
“Like I always say, with everything but fear, in anyone, and anywhere. We came here to do what we know, to leave the ring with our hand raised, but also, we hope that both of us come out well and that we walk away with the victory.”

Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez
“I’m super motivated, I’m super happy because we had a good camp with my team. We’re very motivated, we know it’s going to be a great fight against Juan Francisco Estrada, and we hope that the fans of the boxing world can enjoy this fight.

“If you thought the second fight was good, the third fight will be even better because we are prepared better than ever before. I’m in the best shape of my life, I’m very happy, and we’ve done a good job to show that I have a special talent and I’m going to enjoy this with my family and my people.”

Juan Francisco Estrada
“It’s been a lot of time. Unfortunately, the pandemic really stopped boxing, so I’m happy. I’m very well prepared. After my last fight, I only had two weeks of rest and then we continued camp at high altitude and I’m very motivated and confident about this fight.

“He [Chocolatito] and I are fighters who do our talking in the ring. Outside we’re respectful, but inside we disrespect each other. We’re colleagues outside of the ring and what we do, we do it in the ring and we’re going to show it in the ring. That’s why this is going to be the best fight out of all three of them, the best one will win, and I feel like the people are going to take a good show. And also, not just this fight, the undercard has great fights as well.”

Eddie Hearn:
“As both these legends said, they predict the best of all three on Saturday night. To be honest with you, I would have taken fifty percent of one or two. If we get the best fight of the trilogy here on Saturday, we will get one of the greatest fights in the history of this sport. I think I speak for everybody when I say thank you to Juan Estrada, thank you to Roman Gonzalez, for continuously giving us great fights and stepping up to fight the best in boxing.

“We close out [2022] in front of around ten thousand people in this tremendous arena here in Phoenix for in my opinion, one of the cards of the year and one of the fights of the year. The Trilogy: Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez against Juan Estrada”

MARTINEZ: LIKE CANELO, I’M GOING FOR ALL THE BELTS

Julio Cesar Martinez wants to unleash his frustrations out on Samuel Carmona when he defends his WBC World Flyweight title for the fifth time at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, live worldwide on DAZN.
TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTER
Martinez (18-2 14 KOs) was was set to face long-running rival McWilliams Arroyo in a rematch, but neck and back issues ruled the Puerto Rican out, opening the door for Carmona to land his first World title shot. The unbeaten Spaniard, who represented his country in the 2016 Olympic Games, has cruised to 8-0 in the paid ranks since turning pro in September 2019 and landed the WBA International title at 112lbs in just his fourth pro fight.

Martinez, who is back in action for the first time since challenging one half of the headline fight, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez for the WBC Diamond Super-Flyweight title in March, has also been itching to get unification fights in the books against IBF champion Sunny Edwards and WBA king Artem Dalakian but as yet to no avail.

‘El Rey’ remains focused on the job at hand though, to keep hold of his famous green and gold belt, and in turn, putting pressure on his fellow champions to meet him in the ring.

“We weren’t expecting this fight, but we were preparing for any type of fighter, a technical boxer, a come-forward fighter,” said Martinez. “Now we’ve got an ex-Olympian, we’re prepared and as always, we’re willing to give everything in the ring.

“I’ve not seen a great deal of him, but he has also fought Joel Cordova like I have, and I’ve seen that he can take shots and can also come forward. At times he really likes to trade but it’s going to be a good fight and let’s see what he brings and how he counter punches.

“I never underestimate my opponents because we know that it’s all about hunger and desire and everyone comes to win, nobody comes to lose. We know that everyone comes to get their victory and like always, I’ll leave everything in the ring, and we’ll never discredit any opponent.

“As I always say, I’ll fight anyone anywhere. We’re ready for whatever comes and if he likes, we can fight whenever Arroyo wants to. We’re ready to win. But what most interests me is to unify titles and go after the other belts.”

“I want to unify, to go after the other champions. There are various champions and a vacant WBO title, so there are various belts that I would like and I’m ready to fight for them.

“I’ve never ducked anyone. We’ve been ready for a while to unify and go for all those belts. I would like the Edwards fight. It’s what we’re looking for, those big fights and more than anything to unify and go after all those belts. I’ll fight anybody anywhere.

“I also want to go up to Super-Flyweight but I want to do all I can at Flyweight. There are various options and fortunately we’re in good shape. So, we want to do all we can at flyweight and then go up to Super-Flyweight. As I always say, wherever and with whoever, we come to fight.

“I felt good at 115 pounds. I’ve even fought up at Super-Bantamweight because fortunately I adapt well and more than anything I feel strong, tough and consistent at that weight. I think I could even fight up at Bantamweight with God’s blessing and if I look after myself.”

Martinez’s desire to achieve greatness is not surprising given the company he keeps daily. The 27 year old trains alongside Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez in San Diego, and having teamed up fulltime with Eddy Reynoso, who also manages Martinez, the all-action champion believes the improvements he’s made in California will be on full display.

“Like my colleague Canelo, I’m going for all the belts,” said Martinez. I want to be a unified champion and more than anything to leave a legacy.

“I worked with Eddy Reynoso for four months for this camp. He is my trainer now and we’re putting a lot of effort and dedication into camp so that things go well, and we can go after all those belts.

“Being constantly with Eddy is the difference now. We work on technique and on many things which are helping us. We’re improving in terms of defence, technique in many things.

It motivates me a great deal to train alongside Saúl and more than anything I don’t want to let my team down and I’ll keep giving my all.

“It’s very different working with Eddy. It’s that attention he gives you. He looks out for everything. We’re not missing anything out, examining every detail and thankfully I’ve been well looked after by Eddy.

“With God’s blessing we’re going in with everything except fear, against whoever wherever because we are men, not clowns. Thank you for supporting me. We won’t let you down.”

CHOCOLATITO: TRILOGY FIGHT WITH ESTRADA WILL BE THE BEST OF THE THREE

Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez is ready to go to battle once again with his friendly foe Juan Francisco Estrada on Saturday night at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, live on DAZN – and the living legend expects their trilogy clash to be the best yet.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTER

The rivalry currently stands level at one fight apiece, with Chocolatito (51-3 41 KOs) winning the first battle over a decade ago in November 2012, when he successfully defended his WBA Light-Flyweight title in Los Angeles.

The Nicaraguan would go on to become the pound-for-pound number one and a three-weight World king before the pair finally renewed their rivalry in Dallas, with Estrada levelling the score in an epic battle via split decision in March 2021.

Chocolatito bounced back with a commanding win over Julio Cesar Martinez in March in San Diego and after Estrada successfully defended his Ring Magazine Super-Flyweight belt in September, the doors were opened for the trilogy battle everyone wants to see, and Chocolatito got to work in the gym to prepare for what he expects to be the best of the three.

“We know it’s going to be a great fight, a war for the fans,” said Chocolatito. “But we have faith in God that we’re going to come out victorious. We’ve worked well in our training camp, and you’ll see this on Saturday.

“My physical condition has been very good, and I know it will be a beautiful fight for the fans. We’ve shown that the lighter weights have qualities that fans like to see. I get the feeling this third fight will be legendary too and many people will remember this great fight like the first and the second. The last two fights captured the hearts of the fans so, the third will be a tremendous fight, it could be the best one.

“The first was a fight that was decided on points at 108 pounds. It was an incredible fight, a close, tough fight. But with our skills and conditioning, we kept coming and came out with a good result on the day of the fight.

“The most important thing is we both came out of it in good health and thankfully we did our jobs well. We were satisfied with the work we did on that night over the 12 rounds. And we came out of it feeling great.”

While the focus is on the here and now, talk of the future for both fighters will inevitably come up whatever happens. Chocolatito is the older of the two at 35, but he proved with his performance against Martinez that he still has the energy to dominate the rising crop of exciting little guys.

Chocolatito acknowledges that he’s in the winter of his career but says it will be hard to let it go and will again, trust in his faith to guide him.

“It’s difficult to stop doing something that you like, you know?” said Chocolatito. “God has blessed me so much in my life. I’ve been given pretty much everything, I know that we’re coming to a stage where it might be time to hang them up, but we always ask God for time.

“The most important thing is to enjoy the moment. And right now, I’m enjoying myself because you’ll never get these moments back so, I’m enjoying it, I’m loving it because I feel that God has given me such a great gift, you know?

“The fans have witnessed the great things that have gradually happened. Ultimately God decides those things in our lives. We’re nothing without God. He is with me and if this fight is taking place, it’s because this is what he wants right now, and it means lots of good and important things have been prepared.

“Once this fight’s over, let’s see what happens. What comes next. It’s difficult for me to leave this world of boxing behind. But sooner or later I know that it will be time to rest, a time to find space in my life and to completely dedicate myself to other things and in the main that would be my family.”
