FORMER TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION ANDRE BERTO TO FACE FOUR DIVISION & SIX-TIME WORLD CHAMPION ROBERT GUERRERO IN A THRILLING WELTERWEIGHT SHOWDOWN ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24 AT CITIZENS BUSINESS BANK ARENA IN ONTARIO, CALIF. WHICH WILL BE TELECAST LIVE ON HBO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING®

LOS ANGELES (October 23) – One of the biggest fights of 2012 is coming to Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., on Saturday, November 24 when former Two-Time Welterweight World Champion Andre Berto faces Four-Division and Six-Time World Champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

This 12-round matchup, a surefire “Fight of the Year” candidate, will air live on HBO World Championship Boxing. The event will also feature two compelling co-featured bouts with unbeaten rising star Keith “One Time” Thurman facing his toughest test to date when he takes on former World Champion Carlos Quintana in a junior middleweight showdown and WBA Interim Lightweight World Champion Richar Abril taking unbeaten WBA #3 rated lightweight contender Sharif “The Lion” Bogere for the vacant WBA Lightweight World Championship.

“I’m happy to be back and to be fighting someone as talented as Robert Guerrero,” said Berto. “It’s a great challenge for me to face one of the best coming off of my layoff. I know I have the ability to be the best in my division and in the sport, and proving that to everyone starts with this fight.”

“I am looking forward to this opportunity and it will be a nice way to spend the holiday weekend doing what I love to do which is to fight,” said Guerrero. “Berto has proven himself over the years as one of the best, but I am confident that I will come out on top and close out 2012 with a big win. I have a lot to be thankful for in my life and a win over Berto over Thanksgiving weekend will be one more thing to add to that list.”

“There are a lot of fighters saying they are the best, but not everyone is willing to prove it in the ring,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “Andre Berto and Robert Guerrero put on a show every time they step through the ropes and I’m excited that they’ll be putting on a show against each other on November 24. On Thanksgiving weekend, I’ll be giving thanks that we have a great fight between two of the best young fighters in the world and I know they’ll be giving everything they have to walk out of that ring victorious.”

“Fight fans can add to the enjoyment of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with this action-packed World Championship Boxing tripleheader,” said Kery Davis, Senior Vice President of Programming, HBO Sports. “Andre Berto and Robert Guerrero will be primed for the main event showdown and we think boxing fans are in for a real treat.”

“Citizens Business Bank Arena, managed by AEG Facilities and the City of Ontario, is extremely pleased to have been selected by Golden Boy Promotions to be the host venue for this exciting boxing event,” said Steve Eckerson, General Manager of Citizens Business Bank Arena. “The Inland Empire is a great market and will certainly support this great night of boxing.”

Berto vs. Guerrero, a 12-round welterweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and AT&T. Also featured will be a junior middleweight bout between rising star Keith Thurman and former World Champion Carlos Quintana and a 12-round battle between WBA Interim Lightweight World Champion Richar Abril and number 3 rated WBA lightweight contender Sharif Bogere for the vacant WBA Lightweight World Championship. The event will take place at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Tickets priced at $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25, not including applicable service charges and taxes, are on sale and available for purchase by calling (888) 9AXS TIX (888-929-7849), at Citizens Business Bank Arena box office or online at www.cbbankarena.com or www.axs.com.

A 2004 Olympian for Haiti, Winter Haven, Florida’s Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KO’s) has been among the top welterweights in the world for years, starting in 2008, when he won the WBC 147-pound title with a seventh round technical knockout win over Miguel Angel Rodriguez. After five successful defenses, Berto lost the title in his 2011 “Fight of the Year” battle against Victor Ortiz, but the 29-year-old bounced back with a fifth round stoppage over Jan Zaveck in his next bout to capture the IBF Welterweight World Championship, proving that he was still amongst the elite at 147 lbs. On November 24, he’ll look to continue to make that fact evident against a Four Division and Six-Time World Champion in Guerrero.

The pride of Gilroy, California, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO’s) is a Four-Division World Champion who may prove to be more dangerous than ever now that he can concentrate one hundred percent on his boxing career. With his wife Casey healthy after a battle with leukemia and Guerrero’s shoulder surgery a thing of the past, the 29-year-old southpaw got back to work in July with a hard-fought 12 round win over previously unbeaten Selcuk Aydin that earned him the WBC Interim Welterweight World Championship. Now he’s looking forward to closing out the year with another big win over former World Champion Berto.

A one-punch knockout artist who has ended 12 fights in two rounds or less, Clearwater, Florida’s Keith “One Time” Thurman (18-0, 17 KO’s) brings excitement every time he steps through the ropes. Fully healed from injuries that kept him sidelined in 2011, the 23-year-old returned with a fury in 2012, stopping Christopher Fernandez, Brandon Hoskins and Orlando Lora in succession to extend his knockout streak to seven. On November 24, he faces his toughest opponent yet in former World Champion Carlos Quintana.

Still dangerous at age 35, Moca, Puerto Rico’s Carlos “El Indio” Quintana (29-3, 23 KO’s) has found new life in the junior middleweight division, where he has scored technical knockout victories over Yoryi Estrella and Deandre Latimore in his last two fights. The owner of wins over Paul Williams and Joel Julio and having faced Miguel Cotto and Andre Berto, former WBO Welterweight World Champion Quintana has the skills and experience to find out whether Thurman is the real deal on November 24.

Thirty-year-old Richar Abril (17-3-1, 8 KO’s) was fairly unknown outside of diehard fight circles heading into 2012, but when the Cuban-born resident of Miami, Florida took on highly-touted Brandon Rios for the WBA Lightweight Title in April of this year, he quickly became better known. Although Abril lost a split decision to Rios that night, the boxing media and fans around the world voiced their displeasure, calling it one of the worst decisions ever. On November 24, Abril rightfully gets another shot at the title, this time against Sharif Bogere.

Uganda native Sharif “The Lion” Bogere (23-0, 15 KO’s) was a five-time African champion in his amateur days, and he’s eager to add some professional gold to his trophy case on November 24. An aggressive contender with impressive power, the 24-year-old who now makes his home in Las Vegas has impressed fight fans with wins over Ray Beltran, Francisco Contreras, Sergio Rivera and Manuel Leyva, putting him in prime position for a shot at the world title.

2012 Conn. Fighter of Year Tony ‘TNT’ Grano ready to explode

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (October 23 2012) – North American Boxing Federation (NABF) heavyweight champion Tony “TNT” Grano, who was recently selected by the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame as the Nutmeg state’s 2012 Professional Fighter of the Year, has moved up to No. 5 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) world heavyweight rankings.

Grano will receive his award on Saturday night, November 17 at the 8th annual Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame (CBHOF) Gala Induction in the Uncas Ballroom at Mohegan Sun.

The 2012 CBHOF Hall of Fame inductees and other 2012 award winners will be honored at the special dinner ceremony. 2012 CNHOF inductees are former World Boxing Association (WBA) light middleweight champion “Tremendous” Travis Simms, former World Boxing Union (WBU) middleweight titlist “Dangerous” Dana Rosenblatt, five-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach, promoter Jimmy Burchfield (Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc.), manager George Cruz, and the late manager/promoter Lou Viscusi.

The other 2012 award winners are Elvis Figueroa, Conn. Amateur Boxer of the Year; Dick Flaherty, Official of the Year; Mitchell Etess, Contributor To Boxing

The 31-year-old Grano (20-2-1, 16 KOs), fighting out of Hebron (CT) by way of Hartford, is the first recipient of Conn Boxer of the Year award as a professional and amateur. He was selected as the amateur winner in the inaugural year of the CBHOF, after capturing a gold medal at the 2005 U.S. National Championships and silver medal at the National Golden Gloves Tournament.

The hard-hitting Grano, now promoted by legendary Don King, earned his selection as 2012 Conn. Fighter of the Year off a pair of impressive victories this year, knocking out Brian Minto (35-4) in the third-round of their NABF title eliminator, and stopping former world title challenger DaVarryl Williamson (27-6) in the fourth round this past June for the vacant NABF title.

“This is a huge honor and I’m very happy to be getting this award,” Grano said. “It shows that hard work pays off. I am honored and thank the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame. I really needed to step-up this year to be considered a contender. ”

Grano doesn’t have a fight scheduled but he’s hoping for a career-defining fight in the not too distant future. “I’ll mix it up with anybody,” Grano continued. “I’m playing the waiting game right now. My promoter, Don King, won the purse bid for the WBC (heavyweight) title eliminator between (Chris) Arreola and (Bermane) Stiverne. We’re waiting to hear where and when and I hope to fight in the co-feature. I’m looking to be in a big fight against a top 10 opponent, guys like (Seth) Mitchell and (Tomasz) Adamek. I’ve sparred with (WBC heavyweight champion) Vitali (Klitschko) and feel ready for anybody.”

Tickets for the 8th annual CBHOF Gala Induction Dinner, reasonably priced at $75.00, are on sale now by calling Kim Baker at Mohegan Sun (1.860-.862.7377) or Sherman Cain at the Manchester Journal Inquirer (1.800.237.3606 X321). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. ET, cocktails at 6 p.m. ET, followed by dinner.

ALANTEZ FOX SIGNS WITH BOXING 360

October 23, 2012 – Undefeated Light middleweight prospect, Alantez Fox (7-0-1, 3 KOs) of Forestville, Maryland, has signed an agreement with New York based promotional company Boxing 360. At age 20, Fox stands 6’5 with a 79 inch reach, giving him a height and reach advantage against most light middleweights.

While fighting as an amateur, Alantez had an extensive career having fought around 200 bouts winning close to 160 of them. Using his height and reach to give his opponents problems, Fox is very agile for a man of his stature.

In his last fight, Fox fought Frank Galarza (7-0-1, 4 KOs) in his backyard and came out with a draw. Never afraid to face a stiff challenge, Alantez will make his way back to the ring on November 3, 2012, against an opponent TBA. He’s looking to extend on his unbeaten streak.

“Boxing 360 has a good reputation of taking care of its fighters and I’m happy to be signed by them,” said Fox. “When Mario Yagobi approached me with the contract I felt comfortable and that was important to me. I’m looking forward to my next fight and I’m excited about my future.”

Alantez is trained by his father Troy, who feels he has the tools to become a world champion. With his son’s fight around the corner, he feels good about signing with Boxing 360.

“Alantez and I talked and we feel Yagobi is going to move us in the right direction.” said Troy Fox. “For those who don’t know much about my son, he moves well for a tall rangy fighter. He’s got good power, decent hand speed and he uses his height and reach very well. I can see him becoming a world champion if he can maintain focus.”

“I can see Alantez giving anyone in the light middleweight division problems because of his unique physique,” stated Boxing 360 promoter Mario Yagobi. “As long as he stays healthy I want to keep him fighting.”

KARIM “HARD HITTA” MAYFIELD “I’M A MAN ON A MISSION”

October 22, 2012 – San Francisco’s undefeated NABO Jr. Welterweight champion, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (16-0-1, 10 KOs) will defend his title against Southern California’s, Mauricio Herrera (18-2, 7 KOs) this Saturday October 27th at the Turning Stone Resort Casino. The 10-round bout will be televised live on HBO BOXING AFTER DARK® beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT as the co-feature to a special tripleheader featuring Thomas Dulorme vs. Carlos Abregu and Miguel Vasquez vs. Marvin Quintero.

This past Saturday, Mayfield held a public workout for media members and fans at the Champ Nation Boxing Gym in Oakland Ca. He shared his thoughts on defending his title against Herrera and making his HBO debut.

Mayfield Quotes:

On making his HBO debut…

“I’ve worked my whole life for the opportunity to be fighting on HBO. This is my time to shine and I’m really excited to bring an action packed fight to all those in attendance at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino and the millions watching on TV. I’m a man on a mission to show the world I’m the best Jr. Welterweight in the world.”

On fighting Herrera…

“Herrera is a battle tested fighter who always brings an exciting fight to the table because he’s a come forward type guy. That makes for an explosive matchup between us because I throw hard punched from different angles and someone is sure to get knocked out. I think my fight with Herrera will steal the show. Both of us have never been knocked out so this makes for an intriguing bout. If I get him hurt, I definitely will be going for the KO.”

On defending his NABO title…

“After defeating Patrick Lopez to win the NABO title, I defended it once against Raymond Serrano where I had an incredible knockout on ESPN. I know that fight opened doors for my career and here I am defending it once again against Herrera. I plan to remain the NABO champion and will look for bigger fights in the future. After this fight I know I’ll be ready to fight for the world title.”

UFC® HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JUNIOR DOS SANTOS MEETS CAIN VELASQUEZ IN LONG-AWAITED REMATCH ON DEC. 29

Las Vegas, Nevada – On Saturday, Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the Ultimate Fighting Championship® closes 2012 with a bang, as UFC® heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos meets former champion Cain Velasquez in a long-awaited rematch between two of the sport’s hardest-hitting competitors.

Dos Santos (15-1, fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil) ended Velasquez’s reign as heavyweight champion last November, knocking out the two-time Division I All-American wrestler in the first round. Now, the 30-year-old Velasquez (9-1, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) seeks revenge in arguably the biggest rematch in UFC history.

“Cain is on a mission to get the belt back and avenge the only loss of his career,” UFC President Dana White said. “He wants to prove that he’s still the best heavyweight in the world. But Junior is one of the hardest-hitting fighters ever and he proved that by knocking out Cain and Frank Mir in back to back fights. This is the perfect fight to end 2012!”

In addition to the heavyweight title rematch, former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin meets former Division I national champion wrestler Phil Davis in a pivotal 205-pound contest. Griffin, winner of season one of The Ultimate Fighter®, defeated Tito Ortiz in a trilogy bout in July. Now he collides with Davis, who is fresh off a brilliant submission victory over Wagner Prado at UFC 153.

UFC 155 also features surging middleweight star Chris Weidman (9-0, fighting out of Mineola, N.Y.) taking on Tim Boetsch (16-4, fighting out of Sunbury, Pa.) in a fight that will push the winner toward a 185-pound title shot. Weidman scored a first-round TKO of top contender Mark Munoz, while Boetsch snapped Hector Lombard’s five-year, 20-fight winning streak by defeating the Cuban in July.

If that wasn’t enough, Gray Maynard (12-1-1, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) faces submission ace Joe Lauzon (22-7, fighting out of Bridgewater, Mass.) in a bout between two of the lightweight division’s top contenders. Maynard defeated Clay Guida in his last fight in June, while Lauzon earned another Fight of the Night award in August with a thrilling win over Jamie Varner.

UNITED BOXERS—WINCHESTER, VA FIGHT RESULTS

Winchester, VA (October 22, 2012) This past Saturday night, OCTOBER 20 in front of a huge crowd at the Winchester Sportsplex in Winchester, VA, UNITED BOXERS presented an action packed evening of professional boxing featuring numerous fan favorites from the Delaware/Maryland/Virginia area and terrific prospects from across the country.

In the main event of the evening, undefeated welterweight prospect James “Keep Em Sleepin” Stevenson of Baltimore, MD stay undefeated with a six round unanimous decision win over Angel Rios of Bronx, NY.

Utilizing superb defensive skills, Rios was able to avoid most of the hardest punches from Stevenson. However, the Baltimore native fan hurt Rios with some brutal hooks to the body.

Rios who has made a career of fighting top prospects from across the country moved to 9-15-0 (6KO’s) with the loss while Stevenson continued to take another step in his learning curve and advanced his record to 17-0-0 (11KO’s).

In a scheduled four round welterweight bout, Andy Ruiz of Oxnard, California, stopped local pro debuter Tobias Molina. Although overmatched, Molina was game, countering the more skilled and harder punching Ruiz. Scoring a TKO in the second round, the 19-year-old Ruiz improved to 3-0-0 (2KO’s) and looks like he could develop into a terrific professional.

In a scheduled four round super middleweight bout, Ronald “Akeem” Ellis of Lynn, Massachusetts, scored a first round knockout of Akron, Ohio’s Tierre King, 0-7-1 (4KO’s), to improve to 5-0-0 (4KO’s). Fighting in front of a large contingent of fans from his hometown that made the trip, Ellis continued to impress as a top prospect in the division.

Making his way across the country from Los Angeles, CA, junior lightweight prospect Saul Rodriguez won a four round decision over Cincinnati’s Quincy Johnson.

Perhaps the best fighter winless fighter in the country, Johnson’s good movement, defense and very solid offense allowed him to hang tough with the hard punching Rodriguez. Although Rodriguez may have been frustrated by Johnson’s movement and defense, he pressed forward with the action to take the unanimous decision improving to 6-0-1 (5KO’s), while Johnson fell to 0-7-1.

Cruiserweight prospect and corporate attorney Venroy July displayed his full array of power shots, dominating veteran Cullen Rodgers of Akron, Ohio for the first three rounds until the bout was stopped midway through the fourth.

With the win, July of Suitland, MD, improved to 12-0-2 with five knockouts while Cullen fell to 10-37-2 (6KO’s). Although starting late in professional boxing, July continues to get ascend as a prospect with his skills improving with each start.

Hometowner Daniel Shull wasted no time in his clash with undefeated prospect Trevor McCumby, bashing him with a crunching left jab to the jaw immediately after the opening bell. However, the Chicagoan fought calmly with hard precision punches to Shull’s head and body.

Although dropped four times, the game Shull showed why he is one of the toughest fighters in the sport, as he gamely fought on. To a loud chorus of boos from the huge crowd, the referee stopped the bout midway through the fourth. With the win, McCumby’s record hits 8-0-0 (8KO’s), while Shull’s falls to 3-18-1 (1KO).

Shull showed what a tough guy he was and McCumby showed why he is one of the best young prospects in the country.

Stuart’s Draft, Virginia standout Richie Andrews is never in a bad fight and his fight with Curtis Morton was no exception. The first round was all action between them and the fight looked like it was going to be an all out war, when Morton’s arm was caught in a clinch and twisted so he was unable to continue early in the second round. There was much complaining from the Morton camp that went nowhere with the Virginia commission and culminated in Morton’s trainer being thrown out of the building.

With the win Andrews improved to 5-2-3 (1KO), while Harlem, NY’s Morton fell to 1-3-2.

Super Freak Willie Nelson plays waiting game

ST. LOUIS (October 22, 2012) – Standing 6′ 4″ with an incredible 81″ reach and six-percent body fat, newly crowned North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Super Welterweight champion Willie “The Great” Nelson (19-1-1, 11 KOs) is a physical freak in the 154-pound decision.

Prospect killer Nelson earned his boxing bones, so to speak, with impressive back-to-back victories by 10-round decisions over previously unbeaten fighters, two-time Cuban National champion Yudel Jhonson (12-1) on ShoBox, and World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth champion John “Dah Rock” Jackson (13-1, 12 KOs), for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super welterweight title, on the September 15th Sergio Martinez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. HBO Pay-Per-View event.

“I still have a lot of growing to become a complete fighter,” a humble Nelson said. “I’m working hard with (head trainer) Jack (Loew) to stand behind my jab, use my reach and length, and take less shots. I need to knock-off a few more top fighters to get a world title shot. I just fight and leave who I fight up to my coaches, promoters and manager. I would like to fight next for the vacant WBC Silver title, which would put me in good position for a world title fight against (WBC champion (Saul) ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. He makes a lot of mistakes and, even though he’s only 22, he’s at his peak because he had so many fights, so early. I’ve improved a lot since Jack has been training me. I’m only 25 and know that I will continue to improve, but I’m ready to fight the best 154-pounders in the world right now.”

The gifted fighter from Cleveland, who is trained by Loew in Youngstown, Ohio, is now rated No. 6 in the world by the WBC, ranked behind, in order, Erislandy Lara (Cuba), Vanes Martirosyan (Armenia), Damion Jonack (Poland), Emanuele Della Rosa (Italy) and Sergey Rabchenko (Bellarussia).

“If Lara and Martirosyan are fighting in the WBC final eliminator,” Loew noted, “there is no doubt in my mind that Willie is right there. He’s one of the two or three best American 154-pounders and top 5 or 6 in the world. He deserves his No. 6 ranking in the WBC. No more last minute fights for Willie. He took the Jhonson fight on two week’s notice and his opponent changed for his last fight. But I know it’s a waiting game; I’ve been there with Kelly (Pavlik). We waited until he got (Edison) Miranda. We have to be ready when Willie’s Miranda comes up. I can’t wait to see how Willie does when they throw a big dog in front of him. I’d love to see him fight (Alfredo) Angulo or (James) Kirkland to see what we really have in Willie. They’re punchers but that’s all they do.

“Alvarez will think Willie can’t take his punch because he’s been down a few times, but Willie has a good chin and he’s gotten up to control fights. Against (Vincent) Arroyo (2011 in Nelson’s only loss as a pro), Willie was down twice but he got up and came back to lose a majority decision. Willie took one of the most vicious punches I’ve ever seen against Jhonson. I thought it was all over but Willie got up and controlled the rest of the fight. Any other 154-pounder would have been knocked out. Willie caught Jhonson later and almost knocked him out.”

Steve Smith (Rumble Time), who co-promotes Nelson with Lou DiBella, believes Nelson is changing the scene in the super welterweight division. “We’re not looking to stay at No. 6,” he offered. “We are open to all of the top rated WBC 154-pounders on our way to a world title fight with Alvarez. Some of the fighters rated ahead of Willie are overrated and protected. We’re confident that Willie can beat the best in the world. He went into his last two fights as an opponent but now he’s the NABF champion. Willie has had enough of being the opponent fighting top prospects. He deserves a big fight. I’d like to thank Joe Dwyer, Claude Jackson, Sam Macias and Lee Peters for giving us an opportunity to fight for the NABF title and believing in Willie Nelson.”

A highly decorated U.S. amateur boxer who had nearly 250 matches, Nelson captured several titles, including the PAL Nationals twice and Under-19 Tournament, while suffering only 22 losses. He has been favorably compared to a right-handed Paul Williams, or a young Tommy Hearns, because of his freakish size.

“Willie has all the tools because of his amateur background,” Loew noted. “He does everything well and has a great jab. Willie uses his long reach but he can punch, too. Willie has so much heart and determination. He wants it so bad and for all the right reasons, not jewelry or cars, but for his children.

“He has a world of talent and reminds me so much of Paul Williams, even facially, and Willie’s upper body is starting to look like Tommy Hearns’ with that V-shape. Those aren’t bad comparisons.”

“We have demanded a lot from Willie since moving him to Youngstown, under Jack Loew’s tutelage, following Willie’s only professional loss,” Nelson’s advisor Sam Shapiro added. “Willie has become a real pro. We demand that he pays attention to his diet and improve his strength and conditioning. “Willie has always been a boxing gym rat, but now he has further dedicated himself to strength and conditioning, working full-time with his extraordinary physical fitness trainer, Mike Bartos. The Nelson camp is convinced that we have a winning formula and we could not be more pleased about how enthusiastically Willie has adopted this professional lifestyle. Willie knows that Jack has been to the top and Willie is doing everything asked of him to become World Champion.”

Garcia trashes Morales in four

BROOKLYN, NY–There was a a lot of doubt weather the fight would go on as scheduled but Danny Garcia left no doubt by scoring a spectacular fourth round knockout over future hall of famer Erik Morales to retain the WBA/WBC/Ring Magazine Super Lightweight title that highlighted the first ever boxing card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Morales showed some spunk and craftiness in the first round but Garcia started getting his shots especially ti the body. At the end of of round three, Garcia landed a big right that rocked Morales to the point that he walked to the wrong corner. Garcia landed a vicious left hook that spun Morales around and crashing into the ropes that had Morales father/trainer Jose jump into the ring and stop the fight at 1:23 of round four.

Garcia, 139.8 lbs of Philadelphia is now 25-0 with sixteen knockouts. Morales, 139.2 lbs of Tijuana, MX is 52-9.

The fight almost did not come off after a failed drug test for a diuretic was discovered that Morales and it took last minute negotiating weather the fight would go through

“That left hook, I got that from my mom,” said a jubilant Garcia after the fight. “Her side of the family is all left handed.”

The 36 year old Morales was dejected and humble after the fight. He graciously accepted the loss and said (through a translator), “Time goes by. This is a sign that the end is near.”

“He’s a crafty veteran,” said Garcia of his opponent, a virtual lock for the Hall of Fame. “I really thought we’d go 12 rounds. He hit me with a couple of good shots, but I came back strong.

“In our first fight, I laid back a little too much. In this fight, I was more confident and I knew I could set up my punches and land some big shots.

“You know I’ll fight anyone. I never duck anyone and I know those guys want all these belts. They have to come get them from me.”

Paulie Malignaggi won a twelve round split decision over Pablo Cesar Cano to retain the WBA Welterweight championship.

Cano was not able to win the belt as he weighed in a pound over 147 pound weight limit in Friday.

It was a tactical fight that saw Malignaggi box in his patented style by jabbing up and down and moving. He caused a cut over the left eye of Cano. That did not deter Cano as he started to come forward and the overhand right was his punch of choice.

The two traded rounds with Cano landing the harder blows until Cano landed a huge booming right that sent malignaggi to the canvas. The made the action heat up in the twelth with both guys cut and giving as good as they received.

Malignaggi won two cards by 114-113 tallies while Cano grabbed a third card at 118-109.

Malignaggi is now 32-4. Cano is now 26-2-1.

Peter Quillin dropped reigning champion Hassan N’Dam six times en route to capturing the WBO Middleweight championship via twelve round unanimous decision.

N’Dam showed some sneaky boxing skills over the first three rounds that may have befuddled Quillin. In round four, Qullin landed a booming right hand that sent the champion to the canvas. Clearly shaken, N’Dam tried to fight fire with with but was being bounced all over the ring until he ate a massive left hook that put him on his back at the end of the frame. After steadying himself in round five, Quillin dropped N;Dam from a big left hook in the corner a second knockdown in round six came from a right which could have been ruled a slip.

The second half of the fight saw some terrific back and forth action with the champion showing a tremendous heart after being rocked and coming back. In the final round, Quillin sealed the deal by dropping N’Dam twice and came home with a 115-107 win on all cards.

Quillin, 159.2 lbs of New York is now 28-0. N’Dam, 159 lbs of Pantin, FRA is now 27-1.

Devon Alexander wrestled the IBF Welterweight championship with a lackluster twelve round unanimous decision over champion Randall Bailey.

The fight was void of action with the exception of round two where Bailey landed a big right hand. ALexander boxed and moved and threw more punches and cruised to the 117-109, 116-110 and 115-111 victory.

Alexander, 146.8 lbs of St. Louis, MO is now 24-1. Randall Bailey, 147 lbs of Miami, FL is now 43-8.

Former world title challenger Dmitry Salita pounded out a six round unanimous decision over Brandon Hoskins in a Welterweight bout.

Salita bloodied the left side of Hoskins face and won by scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 59-55.

Salita, 150 lbs of Brooklyn is now 35-1-1. Hoskins, 147.2 lbs if Hannibal. MO is now 16-3-1.

In the past year Danny Jacobs knocked out cancer, tonight Jacobs knocked out Josh Luteran in sixty-nine seconds of theire scheduled eight round Middleweight bout.

Jacobs landed a hard right hand that sent Luteran down with his has pounding off the canvas and the fight was stopped.

Jacobs, 161.2 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is now 23-1 with twenty knockouts. Luteran, 161.8 lbs of Blue Springs, MO is now 13-2.

Former world champion Luis Collazo scored a eight round unanimous decision over Steve Upsher Chambers in a Welterweight bout.

Collazo repeatedly beat Chambers to the bunch and landed hard combinations on the ropes and picked Chambers apart in the center of the ring. Chambers put up a valiant effort and landed some good shots but Collazo won by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 77-75.

Collazo, 146.8 lbs of Brooklyn is now 32-5. Chambers, 148.6 lbs of Philadelphia is now 24-2-1.

Hot shot prospect Eddie Gomez scored a second round stoppage over Saul Benitez in a scheduled four round Jr. Middleweight fight.

One knockout was scored and the bout was stopped at 1:23 of round two.

Gomez, 151 lbs of Bronx, NY is 11-0 with eight knockouts. Benitez, 149.6 lbs of Phoenix, AZ is now 2-3.

Boyd Melson & Jason Thompson christened the building by fighting to a six round draw in a Jr. Middleweight bout

Thompson dropped Melson with a hard right hand in round one. Melson got even in round three when he landed a big right hook that sent Thompson to the canvas. Melson boxed well down the stretch and landed some decent punches but it wasn’t enough to offset the quick start from Thompson and the bout was a ruled a draw by scores of 56-56 om cards

Melson, 155 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is now 9-1-1. Thompson, 151 lbs of Brooklyn is now 5-6-2.

Huck sets his sight on Germany – WBO Champion in great shape

WBO Champion Marco Huck (34-2-1, 25 KOs) has finished his intense
preparations on the beautiful Isle of Mallorca, Spain. Yesterday evening the
27-year-old flew back to Germany. Over the last ten days the prodigy of
coach Ulli Wegner had been soaking up the sun, but of course his main
priority was the training camp ahead of his fight against Firat Arslan
(32-5-2, 21 KOs). “The Sparring sessions have been really good. I am in
great shape,” said the champion who steps into the ring at the Gerry Weber
Stadium in Halle/Westphalia, Germany on November 3.

Coach Ulli Wegner is also satisfied with the shape of his boxer. “Marco has
developed. He is always trying his best to do what I ask him to.
The important thing for him is, to stick to the strategy and that is exactly
what he is doing right now. That is why he has every reason to be optimistic
ahead of the fight against Arslan,” said the 70-year-old. Wegner is
particularly pleased by all the support he and his team received from the
locals of Mallorca. “The people at our hotel, the Playas Del Rey, always did
their best to fulfil every single need of ours. The training facilities at
the ‘Shinkai’ in Santa Ponsa and the TKO Boxing Gym were very good.”

Towards the end of their stay, Wegner and his prodigy took the afternoon off
and went for a cruise on a luxurious yacht. And “Capt´n” Huck was quick to
take charge of the vessel and steered it through the Mediterranean Sea with
Germany in his sights. Moreover, back home another camp is awaiting. Right
before the bout in Halle/Westphalia, Marco Huck will be finalising his
preparations in the town of Neuruppin. “Marco has some tough days ahead of
him,” said Wegner. “The lake of Ruppin offers some excellent surroundings in
order to concentrate on the next task.”

Tickets for the fight on November 3 can be purchased on www.eventim.de and

Light heavyweight Dustin Dirks to get his first title fight on November 3

The time is now for Dustin Dirks. The 23-year-old light heavyweight will get
a first glimpse at the limelight come November 3. Then he will make his
debut as the main support of Marco Huck against Cleiton Conceicao (32) from
Brazil, fighting for the WBA Intercontinental Championship. In the main
event, WBO cruiserweight king Huck tries to defend his belt for the 10th
time against former WBA titlist Firat Arslan in an all-German clash at Gerry
Weber Stadium in Halle (Westphalia), Germany.

Dirks said he is ready to shine and his record shows that he has every right
to be optimistic of winning his title in the professional ranks. “I’m just
23 years of age but I guess it’s time to show the world what I’m made of. So
this title fight comes around just right.”

In his last outing inside the ring, he beat Georgian Sandro Siproshvili.
Back then, he showed guts, overcoming a scare in round five, when his
opponent went for broke. Still, Dirks stood his ground and got the win by
technical K.o. just two stanzas later. “That was a good experience for me. I
showed a lot of heart and finally beat him clearly. I believe that it was
also an interesting fight for the crowd to witness,” stated the prodigy of
coach Otto Ramin.

Nevertheless, the Berlin-native makes his debut in a championship fight,
which could go the full distance of twelve rounds. “That’s a first for me,
but I’m sure to get it done. After all, my coach and I work hard on my
strength and stamina. I already proved in sparring to be ready for twelve
rounds of action,” Dirks expressed with a lot of confidence.

Tickets for the fight night on November 3 can be purchased on www.eventim.de

Morales tests positive for banned substance before Garcia rematch

Four division world champion Erik Morales allegedly tested positive for a banned substance just days before his rematch with world Super Lightweight champion Danny Garica this Saturday night in Brooklyn according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“As far as I know, the fight is going on,” one of the sources told ESPN.com. “There is nothing that can be done to stop it” because the “B” sample test result has not yet been disclosed.

“(USADA) said it could be a false positive,” one of the sources with knowledge of the disclosure said. “But from what I understand, they won’t know until the test on the ‘B’ sample comes back, but that probably won’t be until after the fight.”

Perez narrowly beats McDowell to capture junior lightweight crown at Twin River

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 18, 2012) – East Hartford, Conn., native Joseph “Chip” Perez captured the vacant New England Junior Lightweight title Thursday night at Twin River Casino, narrowly defeating Chazz McDowell by majority decision.

McDowell (6-3) came out strong, utilizing his slick jab to frustrate Perez (10-1) in the early rounds, but Perez worked his way to the inside and finished strong in the final three rounds of the eight-round main event to earn a 76-76, 77-75, 78-74 win.

The title bout between Perez and McDowell, which was a battle between two Connecticut natives (McDowell was born in Hartford and raised in Yonkers, N.Y.), highlighted a dynamic, nine-fight card presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports.

The co-main event featured an explosive battle between female bantamweights Shelito Vincent (5-0) and Ivana Coleman (0-2), who faced one another for the second time since July. Vincent, the popular, Providence, R.I., native who’s established a steady fan base in both Rhode Island and her hometown of New London, Conn., dominated the rematch much like she did in the first bout, beating Coleman unanimously, 40-36, on all three scorecards.

Fighting for the first time since switching strength coaches, Vincent looked much stronger and faster than she did in the first bout against Coleman three months ago. She landed early and often and kept Coleman, a native of Slidel, La., from developing any rhythm.

Welterweight Jon Smith (1-0) of Cranston, R.I., a three-time New England Golden Gloves champion as an amateur, looked sharp in his professional debut, beating fellow newcomer Dinis Paiva Jr. (0-1) of East Providence, R.I., by unanimous decision, 40-36, 40-36, 39-37. Junior lightweight Toka Kahn-Clary (2-0) of Providence returned to the Ocean State for the first time since his professional debut only to have his bout against Rochester, N.Y., native Jamell Tyson (3-8-2) cut short due to an accidental head-butt in the second round, resulting in a no contest. Both fighters ended up with matching cuts over their eyes.

“The Vermont Bully” Kevin Cobbs (6-0, 2 KO) of Burlington, Vt., kept his perfect record intact in thrilling fashion, finishing determined veteran Alexander Mancera (8-5-1) of Queens, N.Y., with two minutes remaining in the fourth round. Mancera hung in for three rounds, but ultimately ran out of gas in the fourth. Cobbs, who dominated on the inside throughout the fight, finished Mancera with a short right to the temple.

Former reality television star Rich Gingras (12-3, 8 KOs), formerly of The Contender and now training out of Attleboro, Mass., returned to the ring following a five-month layoff and beat Lexington, Ky., light heavyweight Dennis Ogboo (7-6) via technical knockout in the second round. Gingras drove Ogboo into the ropes with a flurry of punches and then knocked his opponent to the canvas with an overhand left to the temple at the 2:32 mark, prompting Ogboo’s corner to throw in the towel.

Woonsocket, R.I., middleweight Joey Gardner (9-5-1) overcame a slow start and narrowly escaped with a 56-59, 57-56, 58-55 split-decision win over tough veteran Philip Burnette (2-6) of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Gardner earned the win – just his second in his last five fights and first since March – despite getting knocked down in the second round.

The highly-anticipated rematch between Providence super middleweight Alex Amparo (5-0, 3 KOs) and Nick Lavin (2-4) of Shelton, Conn., didn’t last as long as the first fight. After beating Lavin by majority decision a year ago, Amparo finished the job Thursday, stopping Lavin 53 seconds into the fourth round. Amparo dominated from start to finish, knocking Lavin to the canvas 30 seconds into the opening round, and then pummeling his opponent with overhand rights throughout the rest of the fight. Referee Joey Lupino stopped it in the fourth when Amparo unloaded with a flurry of unanswered punches after driving Lavin back into the corner.

Coming off a dominant win in July, middleweight Thomas Falowo (8-1, 6 KOs) of Pawtucket, R.I., picked up right where he left off, stopping Michael Walchuk (9-6, 2 KOs) of Ontario, Canada, :40 into the fifth round. Falowo controlled the pace from the opening bell and eventually ended it in the fifth when he drove Walchuck into the ropes with a flurry of lefts and rights. Falowo has now won two consecutive fights by knockout since his first career loss in May.

Flores drills McNnemar in 2. Wants Marco Huck!

SPRINGFIELD, MO (October 17, 2012)–On Friday night October 6th, Number-one WBO world rated cruiserweight and NABA, NABO and WBC continental Americas champ BJ Flores (28-1-1, 18 KO’s) scored another knockout victory when he stopped once-beaten David McNemar in front of a packed house at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield Missouri.

Flores has now set his sights on highly regarded WBO champion Marco Huck of Germany

“He is the champion and I am WBO #1 challenger. It’s no secret this is a fight I have wanted for a very long time”, said Flores

Over the last fourteen months, Flores has fought four times and looked very good in those outings. Flores has shown good power by knocking out 3 of his last 4 opponents and scoring multiple knockdowns in those fights. Flores says, “I know I needed to get better and improve. In order to be successful in this game you have to stay active and stay busy. Unfortunately this was something that I wasn’t able to accomplish before but now with the hometown crowd and fan base we can do shows in Springfield and keep me active and busy”.

If you look a bit deeper into Flores last 4 fights there is a little more than meets the eye. Nick Iannuzzi (16-2) who was coming off a VERY close and controversial loss to number-three world rated power puncher Lateef Kayode. Flores hurt Iannuzzi badly and knocked him down in the first round and battered him until the referee stopped the contest in the fifth. Flores dominated journeyman Paul Jeanette (12-3) for ten rounds by scores of 100-90 on all three cards. Next up was Hugo Pineda (39-5) who was coming off an eight round decision loss to undefeated Russian prospect Jimmy Kapanov.

Flores dropped Pineda twice and scored a stoppage victory in the sixth round. Next up was McNemar (13-1). Flores dropped McNemar twice and the referee calling it off at 2:14 of the second round. McNemar was coming off a very close loss to undefeated and world rated Ryan Coyne (18-0). This type of opposition can keep Flores sharp and ready for the big opportunity when it comes.

“After Huck KO’s Firat Arslan I want him next. Huck is very tough and very well-conditioned. He is very strong and very confident. He has a great team around him and I respect him as a fighter. But any time he has fought anyone who can box he has had troubles. Steve Cunningham, Denis Lebedev and Ola Afalobi all gave him fits. I have quietly changed my entire boxing style. I have tried to fly under the radar and go back to the drawing board and get better. I have fought 4 times in the last year and feel sharp and ready. I have 3 KO’s against decent opposition. I WANT a step up! NO ONE will expect me to beat him. It will be an absolute shocker!!

There are some really good champions in this division and I know I will have to be at my best if I want to defeat a good champion in his home country. This will bring out the best in me. Sometimes I will go run 5 miles in the middle of the night just to keep me hungry. I work out at all times of the day and put my body through all kinds of torture to make sure I am ready when my moment arrives. Nothing worth having can be easy. I have taken my bumps and bruises and learned a lot in my professional career. I think about it every day and work tirelessly so that I can be prepared when my moment comes”.

QUOTES FROM THE FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE FOR THIS SATURDAY’S FOUR WORLD TITLE FIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA AS BOXING RETURNS TO BROOKLYN AT THE BRAND NEW BARCLAYS CENTER LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

Danny Garcia, Unified Super Lightweight World Champion:
“Saturday night, at Barclays [Center], will keep these belts here on the East Coast. See you Saturday night.

“I want to thank God for giving me an opportunity to be here and showcase my skills on this level. I want to thank my dad, my family who helped me get through camp.

“I had about a 10-week camp, a hard, strong camp. Got my rounds in sparring and miles in running. Did my conditioning. I put in the hard work.

“I sacrificed all the things I love to do just to perform and give the fans at the Barclays Center a great fight.

“I’m ready. I’m going to keep the belts here on the East Coast, and I will see on Saturday.”

Erik Morales, Former World Champion and Future Hall of Famer:

“It is an honor to be in New York for the first time fighting to regain my title. It is hard to be in an arena with such of great fighters, but I’m here, and trust me I’m ready. And certainly, each and every one of them is going to do the best that they possibly can to steal the night.

“I have been training very hard for Saturday. I’ve done tremendous preparation. I’ll assure you it is going to be an explosive night. What you saw in March, it is definitely not what you are going to see on Saturday. I assure you I will regain my title.

“Many might ask, why do I keep fighting? Many of you question me, and I see it in your eyes. You wonder if I’m continuing because of economic status. And I tell you no. It’s not for money.

“Others might ask if I am not leaving boxing because there is a resistance to leave it. I tell them no as well. We have it planned out, the retirement, and it will be soon.

“We’re very relaxed. We’re very happy with the work that we have done for this particular fight up to this moment. I’m ready. I have done a tremendous job in preparation. I have done all of the work.

“I invite you all to come out Saturday night because I assure you it’s going to be an explosive night of boxing.”

Paulie Malignaggi, WBA Welterweight World Championship:

“I am very fortunate and blessed to be part of this team. I get to reap the rewards through my hard work to now be a part of this tremendous show. It’s pretty incredible.

“You grow up and everybody wants to have a big fight in their hometown. Growing up in New York, the thing that we always dreamed about was Madison Square Garden, but it was because we did not have something like the Barclays Center to dream about. Now we do. I feel so hapoy.

“Again, I am blessed and fortunate to be part of this opening show where I think that young kids will come out one day, and come out to the fights and, and dream to be part of big shows just like there in their future. It’s no longer just Madison Square Garden.

“You can dream about being part of the Barclays Center and part of a big event here. We’re coming with fireworks. We’re coming with flash and with some big, big fights.

“And it’s not just my fight. This is an unbelievable show. This is just the first one. I know Golden Boy will keep doing this on a huge level. And I intend to be part of it. I want to continue to be part of it and continue to be part of these huge shows. Being in bigger fights. And I want to be part of the centerpiece of bringing their thing here to the Barclays Center.

“It is a feeling that you have whenever they announce your hometown when you are fighting. Every fighter is proud of where they come from. And I get that extra charge when I’m in there, and they say Brooklyn, New York.

“I always get that extra charge. But, I know it’s going to be that extra, extra charge on Saturday night when they say from Brooklyn, New York and I am fighting in Brooklyn, New York.

“And I am being announced as a world champion. I have got a worthy challenger in front of me. I know what it’s like to have all these goals in front of you and all these dreams in front of you and want to accomplish big things. I know what Pablo Cesar Cano is going through and thinking, because I’ve been there, you know. And I know I have got motivate kid in front of me who will come with all his heart, and he’s supposed to.

“I said a while ago, they did not give me for free, I had to go to the other side of the world and defeat a world champion for it, and I intend to keep it right here in Brooklyn. It’s going to be a fight. He [Cano] keeps saying it will be a war. He’s motivated, and that I made big mistake. Listen, man, we can do wars. We can do boxing matches.

“I have done it all. I have 35 pro fights. I’ll be 32 next month, and I have been in there with the best and fought some of the best, won some, lost some. Won two world titles as you know. There is nothing that I have not seen. So, be at war, a tactical match.

“So, there is nothing new on Saturday night that I can expect to see that I haven’t already seen and that I’m not prepared to deal with.
Come and bring it on Saturday night. It’s funny, I was talking to somebody the other day, and they were like, you must be so excited, and I am like, it’s crazy.

“Are you sleeping at night? It must be keeping you up at night. Usually I don’t lose sleep over fights. I am calm, but, I do keep waking up, and I keep like waking up and I’m burning myself at night. These guns, they are smoking, and they are ready to go. Saturday night, we are pulling the trigger. Oh, yeah. Smoking. Smoking.”

Pablo Cesar Cano

“I’m very glad and motivated to be here in New York, and also to be part of this great card. To be participating in a card with such great champions and great fighters.

“But I’m here because God put me on this road. Golden Boy gave me this opportunity. And I promise I’m not going to let it go. I want to thank the champion for giving me this opportunity. But I think he made big mistake because I’m ready. I’m prepared.

“And I’m going to be the next welterweight world champion.

Hassan N’Dam, WBO Middleweight World Champion

“To start, I speak here with my heart. I have dreamed of this. I thank you again. This is a dream. To go to United States to defend your belt.

“At the Barclays Center, many people don’t know me in United States. It’s an opportunity for them to know me because I want to be a King, a King of Middleweight, of this division.

“I do want you to see a show on Saturday night. I am a French showman.”

Peter Quillin, Undefeated Number One Rated WBO Middleweight Contender

“Thank you all so much. This is an historic event right here. This is an historic event and is something that everybody should be want to be part.

“I want to thank Hassan for giving me the opportunity to fight him. We are brothers in boxing. I don’t look at him like I hate him because I don’t know him. But I know when it’s time to step in the ring, it’s about business, and that’s what I am [all about].

“But, I am just very blessed. Like I said, I’m going to save the best for last, I want to thank God. I don’t take anything for granted. I was sleeping on my boy’s floor on the northeast side of Manhattan on his floor not knowing where I would be. If I would have questioned it, I would probably have doubts about today.

“But, I know that I have the skill to pay the bills. And come October 20, I will look you in the eye, Hassan, and you will see all the pain I will endure on you.

“This is what it’s about, about me working hard for this. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity, and I am glad I got it with you [to N’Dam], because I am going to show the world what I am all about.”

Devon Alexander, Former World Champion

“I’m here. This has been a long process, but I thank God for getting me here to another point in my career. I’m excited to be here to prove myself once again. I have a lot of doubters. I still have a lot to prove.

“I am still going to prove myself by taking on Randall Bailey. You guys say that he’s Knockout King Bailey, but Saturday night I will show you what I’m going to do to him.

“I don’t run from anybody. I will fight anybody. I’m a throwback fighter. And I’m ready to rock ‘n’ roll. I have been ready since September 8.

“I’m just like a cannon, shoot me out and I’m ready to blast.”

Randall Bailey, IBF Welterweight World Championship

“I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls, am I going to make it? Well I am here and it’s going down on Saturday night. And you all forgot to mention one of the promoters of the show, Kevin Cunningham, he’s been doing great job of promoting this show.

“So, I’m looking way too forward to Saturday night. It will be a great show. I plan on putting on a great show, along with all of the other fighters come Saturday night.”

Danny Jacobs, Hot Middleweight Prospect

“Wow, a standing ovation. That means a lot to me.

“This moment wasn’t promised, me standing before you. So to have an opportunity to perform Saturday night is a dream come true. As a professional, I never had the opportunity to fight in Brooklyn. So this is, this is my first fight back, so this is very special to me.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen Saturday night so thank you for believing in me and taking the chance.

“Brett [Yorkmark], thank you for your kind words. The friendship that we have had over the last two years has been — it means a lot to me, so I really thank you for sticking by my side.

“Saturday night, Brooklyn is in the house! Do you understand? I’m a Brooklynite, so for me to be able to perform in front of these people means everything to me.

“I have a lot of pride saying that I come from Brooklyn. You know, and a lot of great Brooklyn fighters have never the opportunity to have an opportunity such as this.

“So, I’m very honored and humbled to be able to say I was a part of this first historic event. God is good. I want to thank for your support, and Saturday night you will see the return of Danny Jacobs. Thank you very much and God bless.”

Eddie Gomez, Rising Junior Middleweight Star

“Let me catch my breath. What can I say? I’m honored to be fighting on this card with all of these great champions. Once they open the doors, I am ready for the fight. I am excited. Come October 20, I want everybody to come out and support us.”

Luis Collazo, Former World Champion

“I am not much of a talker, but if you’re looking for a fight, I’ll give you one.

“Thanks for my trainers. As a fighter, there are many ups and downs, but you keep moving forward and it helps to have a great team to keep me focused.

“This is a great opportunity. And I will represent Brooklyn until the day that I die.”

Dmitry Salita, Former World Title Contender

“I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to be on this great show. It’s a great honor to be on this card. I look forward to putting on a great performance.

“I know that I have to look impressive. I have to look great to put myself in title contention. And can that’s what I plan to do on Saturday night.

“I also want to say that three fighters on the show, myself, Luis Collazo and Danny Jacobs are from the City Boxing Club. And, and boxing people from New York City, Jimmy O. passed a year and a half ago, so you know, his memory lives on. I will also represent them on Saturday night.”

Boyd Melson, Rising Junior Middleweight Prospect

“Most importantly, this is an incredible chance for me in boxing. I am wearing this band (on his left wrist) to remind me of why I’m here – to donate my winnings to a clinical trial to cure spinal cord injuries.

“I am hoping that I can unite my boxing career with my ‘Team Fight to Walk’ efforts for this cause. We have already raised $100,000 but we have lofty goals that keep me motivated and strong.”

*Oscar De La Hoya announces he will match Boyd’s purse and make a personal donation to “Team Fight to Walk.”

Oscar De La Hoya, President, Golden Boy Promotions

“There is a buzz in the air with Golden Boy, Showtime and Barclays bringing championship boxing back to Brooklyn. People are talking about this event all over New York and we are excited to be a part of it. Making history Saturday night, four world title fights, championship boxing back in Brooklyn. You really don’t want to miss it.

“We are proud to be putting this event on regular Showtime rather than pay-per-view.

“It could have easily have been on pay-per-view because of the magnitude of this event

“Thank you very much to the Barclays Center, and thank you very much to all the champions who are here.

“Tomorrow we do have the weigh-in taking place at the Barclays Center. It’s open to the public, so come down, meet the fighters, watch them weigh in.

“I will be there signing autographs, taking pictures and we’re looking forward to all the fans coming down there Friday at 1:00 p.m.”

Brett Yormark, CEO Barclays Center

“Four title fights, which is unprecedented and extremely exciting for us. Our goal is to bringing boxing back to Brooklyn, to this area and make it strive. We want to make the Barclays Center your home.

“You know, that’s been our goal from day one, and obviously, sitting to my right and left and behind me are great Brooklynites that have called Brooklyn home and are now, in some respect, fighting for the first time in front of their home crowd, so we’re really excited about that.”

Melvina Latham, NYSAC Chairman

“Be still my heart. This is so exciting to have boxing back in Brooklyn. As the New York State Athletic Commission Chairman, I’m your welcoming committee and you are here. What else do I need to say?”

Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME

“On October 20th, these young men will be making history. We at Showtime are very proud to be part it. As we all know by now this is the first boxing event at the Barclays Center.

“Which means these fighters, the fans in attendance, our TV viewers at home will be part of history. There is only one first. And this is it.

“On the card we have melting pot of ethnicities, personality, lifestyles. We have Puerto Rican fighters. We have Mexican fighters. We have an Italian American fighter, a Cuban American, a cancer survivor and an orthodox Jew. It’s perfectly suited for this dynamic and ever changing borough and for this dynamic city.

“Showtime as a network has never televised four world title fights in its history. So, we’re making history on our network as well. Showtime is televising more boxing programming and more high quality boxing than at any time in the history of the network.”

The former world champion boxer with the distinctive nickname, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, will greet fans at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. prior to the November 9 edition of ShoBox: The New Generation featuring five 2012 American Olympic boxers making their professional debuts along with unbeaten featherweight contender and 2008 United States Olympian Gary Russell Jr. facing Vyacheslav Gusev in the evening’s main event.

Following a stellar amateur career, Mancini made the jump to the professional game in 1978. His whirlwind punching style caught the attention of network executives at several American television networks, and he became a regular on their sports programming. His legacy also included his inspirational story of a young champion who had won the title as much for his family as for himself. The essence of this story was captured in a made-for-television movie based on Mancini’s life.

Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. inside the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center. The meet and greet is open to the public with the purchase of a ticket to the event.

Also, just announced is the return of heavyweight contender Carl “Iron Fist” Davis.

Presented by Round 3 Productions, WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is headlined by an IBO Light Heavyweight World Title Bout between “Chicago’s Polish Prince” Andrzej Fonfara and world title challenger Tommy Karpency from Adah, Pennsylvania.

Advance tickets priced at $150, $100, $50 and $30, may be purchased through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com, phone 1-800-745-3000) or at the UIC Pavilion Box Office (phone 312-413-5700) in addition to the Round 3 Productions Office (phone 708-345-9999).

Over the first year of his professional boxing career, former Chicago Golden Gloves Champion Littleton, 4-0-1 (1KO) has quickly impressed Chicago fight fans with his stunning power and excellent boxing skills. Returning to the UIC Pavilion where all four of his wins have taken place in front of his huge legion of fans, Littleton will be featured in a six round super middleweight clash.

Littleton will look to get back in the win column following a highly controversial six round draw with Darnell Wilson on AUGUST 18, a bout most ringside observers had him winning easily.

The 23-year-old Herrera, has made the UIC Pavilion his home over the last three years compiling a record of 8-2-0 (4KO’s). With his all-action style, the Franklin Park native has built a massive and passionate fan following who attend each of his fights.

In his most recent start; Herrera won a six round decision over crafty St. Louis veteran Tyrone Chatman on JULY 13. Earlier this year on FEBRUARY 24, Herrera and fellow Mexican-American Chicago prospect Adrian Granados waged a fantastic eight round war, won in a hard fought battle by the highly regarded Granados.

Undefeated newcomer Santiago, 5-0-0 (1KO), has been a terrific addition to the Chicago boxing scene. Improving with each fight, Santiago won his first six rounder, a decision over Marlon Smith on APRIL 14 at Cicero Stadium.

Also added to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING card is heavyweight contender Carl “Iron Fist” Davis of Evanston. Sporting a record of 16-4-0 (12KO’s), Davis is known for his heavy hands and brutal knockouts of his opponents.

After a two bout run as a cruiserweight, which included a ten round decision over former world champion Arthur Williams on DECEMBER 17, 2010 at the UIC Pavilion, Davis is now back campaigning in the heavyweight division.

In his last start on SEPTEMBER 8, Davis knocked out former world title challenger Bert Cooper in the second round.

Rounding out the undercard at WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, Chicago’s Jose Romero will make his pro debut in a four round junior welterweight bout.

More information on these undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

BRYANT JENNINGS TAKES ON BOWIE TUPOU DEC 8th NBC SPORTS NETWORK TEMPLE UNIVERSITY MC GONIGLE HALL PHILADELPHIA, PA.

Philadelphia’s Bryant “By By” Jennings (15-0, 7 KO’s) will defend his USBA heavyweight title on NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night broadcast, when he meets Bowie Tupou of Nukualofa, Tonga (22-2, 16 KO’s) on December 8. The 12 round fight will take place at Temple University McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia. The NBCSN broadcast will begin at 9PM ET.

Kathy Duva, Main Events CEO said, “This is a great stylistic match up. Tupou is a big puncher who prefers to brawl. Jennings is a boxer but loves to mix it up. It’s the kind of fight that will likely end up in a slugging match where the best chin wins.”

Jennings, currently ranked #5 by the IBF, is coming off a stunning KO 35 seconds into the first round of his fight against Chris Koval on September 8th’s Adamek – Walker undercard at Pru Center in Newark, NJ. Jennings previously pounded iron-chinned Steve Collins, of Houston, TX, for 10 rounds to win the vacant USBA heavyweight title on June 16 at the Pru Center on the NBC Sports Network. His meteoric rise in the heavyweight ranks has gained the attention of boxing fans and media worldwide.

Jennings is pleased to have the opportunity to fight Tupou in Philly, “Having this fight in my hometown is great for me right now. I’ve been representing my city for a while, fighting tough fights and bringing home wins. I believe this fight will be a good one for the fans. Bowie is aware that I have something to prove so I’m expecting him to come to fight and I am ready.”

Tupou fights straight-ahead looking to stop his opponent with every big bomb he throws. In his last win on the undercard of the Super Six Finals in Atlantic City, Tupou dropped Donnell Holmes in the seventh round with a right hand and went on to win a unanimous decision over Holmes who was 33-1 at the time. He is trained by Jeff Mayweather and currently resides in Las Vegas.

Tupou knows he’s putting it all on the line,”It’s a good opportunity to get back into the mix again. It’s a must win fight for me and I can’t afford to lose. That’s what I’m focused on, winning no matter what.”

McGonigle Hall, a 4,500 seat venue at Temple University, has hosted boxing in the past, but when NBC Sports Network broadcasts the sixth installment of its “Fight Night” series on December 8th, it will be the first professional boxing event held at McGonigle Hall in over 19 years.

Eight bouts are planned for the Philadelphia card. The fight is promoted by Main Events, Peltz Boxing, and Goossen-Tutor Promotions in association with BAM Boxing. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, October 24th. Contact Peltz Boxing for further ticket info, 215-765-0922, www.peltzboxing.com

STAR BOXING RE-SIGNS DELVIN RODRIGUEZ

NEW YORK, NY (October 17, 2012) Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing is proud to announce the re-signing of former world title challenger and perennial contender Delvin Rodriguez.

Sporting a record of the 26-6-3 with 14 knockouts and known for his thrilling performances including the 2011 “Fight of the Year”, Rodriguez is among the most exciting and respected warriors in the sport. He is currently world ranked #7 by the WBA.

Said DeGuardia, “Star Boxing is honored to extend our relationship with Delvin. Delvin and his team are true professionals that we’ve enjoyed working with over the years.”

“At every show I promote fans approach me wanting to know when Delvin is fighting next and I hope to announce details of his next fight shortly. He’s a must-see attraction on the East Coast and we’re very thankful for the support from the fans.”

Said Rodriguez, “Star Boxing has done very good by me, we work well together, they got me the two opportunities for the world title bouts. I’m back in the gym now and I feel very strong and confident”

“I want to get right back in the mix to face a top contender for my next fight, maybe Gabriel Rosado or Carlos Molina. There’s a real buzz about Rosado who’s on a nice winning streak and Molina has faced and beaten many top guys. Either one would be a very strong TV fight.”

Rodriguez’s manager A.J. Galante also spoke about the signing and Delvin’s future,”I’m very pleased that Joe and I were able to draw up a multi-year extension for Delvin. Delvin and I felt it was necessary to show our commitment to Star Boxing like they have showed Delvin over the past five years, which included two world title shots, multiple appearances on ESPN, fights on both HBO and SHOWTIME, and staging the Fight of the Year in 2011 against Pawel Wolak.”

“We are happy that we were able to get this contract out of the way, so now we can go back to work and get back on the winning track after our loss in June. Delvin is as hungry as ever and I plan and want him extremely active this coming year. As always Delvin wants the toughest fights out there and being in one of boxing’s deepest divisions, I know we will get those tough fights. Myself along with Joe and Star Boxing matchmaker Ron Katz have already discussed plans for the upcoming months, and Delvin is very excited for what the future holds.”

Rodriguez is best known for his all out war with Polish standout Pawel Wolak, their first fight on JULY 15, 2011 from the Roseland Ballroom in New York City being declared a draw. The bout won “Fight of the Year” honors and was broadcast LIVE on ESPN Friday Night Fights.

While their first clash was declared a draw, Rodriguez fought beautifully in the rematch winning a clear and decisive ten round unanimous decision on DECEMBER 3, 2011 at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in a bout that was televised on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Most recently Rodriguez travelled to the West Coast challenging WBA Junior Middleweight Champion Austin Trout on JUNE 2 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, losing a twelve round decision in a bout that was broadcast on SHOWTIME.

“My goal is to get Delvin another world title shot soon. His whole career has been challenging the very best in his division and that will continue to be our focus for him” continued DeGuardia.
