STEVENSON VS. GEORGE IBF SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE ELIMINATOR LEMIEUX VS. GANOA IN CO-FEATURE

MONTREAL (September 19, 2012) – In a few more weeks, Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) will begin its ninth year of operation. As previously announced, the GYM Boxing Series “Fast & Furious” is back with an improved version 3.0 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, presented by Mise-O-Jeu and Videotron, supported by the Bell Centre and Evenko.

Stevenson vs. George

The main event of the evening is the long awaited International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight title eliminator showdown between Quebec favorite Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (18-1-0, 15 KO) and American invader Donovan “Da Bomb” George (23-2-1 , 20 KO). The winner between these two powerful hitters will become the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Carl Froch, from England. George is currently at training camp in Florida and Stevenson is in his Detroit hideout under the supervision of Derreck Colemon. Unfortunately, Stevenson’s trainer and manager Emanuel Steward is not involved in his preparation having recently been hospitalized. He will undergo surgery at a hospital in Chicago this week.

“Despite the problems that afflict my coach,” Stevenson said, “I have prepared with professionalism and conviction. I will win this fight on October 12th! Meanwhile, we are all behind Emanuel with all our heart and wish him well to overcome his disease.”

David Lemieux in the co-feature

The spectacular and powerful Laval boxer, 23-year-old middleweight David Lemieux (26-2, 25 KOs), will be showcased in the 10-round co-feature. His takes on Mexican slugger Alvaro “The Cobra” Gaona (15-1-0, 12 KO), the World Boxing Council Fecombox champion since 2010, who turned professional in 2005. Gaona is a hard-hitting, aggressive and courageous fighter, evident by his 12 knockouts in 15 victories. His only loss as a pro was to Esau Errera (17-5-1, 8 KOs) in 2011, which Gaona avenged last June by a 10th round technical knockout.

After a difficult, injury-plagued 2011 and early 2012, Lemieux intends to finish this year strong. “Last weekend I was excited watching boxers in my division like (Sergio) Martinez, (Julio) Chavez Jr. and (Mathew) Macklin,” Lemieux commented. “I thought that is the level I want to be fighting at and as soon as possible. I know I’m not there, yet, but I am neglecting nothing, personally or professionally to get there. I assure you that I am not so too far away.”

Alvarez Rivas, Bizier Bence and John O’Donnell

World contenders, light heavyweight Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (9-0-0, 5 KOs) and welterweight Kevin Bizier (17-0-0, 12 KOs), both return to the ring Oct. 12 in stay busy fights with very important battles on the horizon. NABO champion Alvarez will face Hungarian Daniel Regi (15-6, 7 KOs) in an eight-round bout, while NABA champion Bizier will confront Polish Patrick Litkiewicz (6-0-0, 3KO) in a six-round match. Also fighting on the undercard are promising GYM heavyweights Oscar “Kaboom” Rivas 11-0, 6 KOs), who faces Joey Dawejko (7-1-1, 3 KOs), of Philadelphia, in an eight-round fight, and Didier “Big Daddy” Bence (5-0, 2 KOs) meets Joseph Harris (11-12, 9 KOs), of Tennessee, in a six rounder.

Former British junior middleweight champion John O’Donnell (25-2, 11 KOs) fighting out of a London and a British protégé of Hennessy Sports Canada’s Adam Harris, is in Montreal helping Antonin Decarie (26-1, 7 KOs) prepare for his extremely important fight September 29 against lefty Alex Perez (16-0, 9 KOs) on HBO. O’Donnell will battle Dominican Thomas Mendez (16-2, 9 KOs) on the Oct. 12 show in an eight-round contest.

Fighting charities

As announced at the launch of the series last month, GYM will be presenting a fight for a charitable cause between two people uninitiated to the sport of boxing in a clash of three, two-minute rounds, under the supervision of Boxing Quebec. At stake in this challenge is a $ 2,000 purse that will be given to the charitable organization chosen by the winner. In addition to serving a good cause, the purpose of this exercise is to the give an opportunity to two people who could never imagine a day of climbing in the ring and living the same emotions as real boxers. The inaugural “charity” fight will pit Gabriel Jauvin, sommelier from the Pullman, 3424Park Avenue, vs. Denis Lessard, a butler from Le Filet 219 rue Mont-Royal O, in the cruiserweight division. These two boxers for a day have chosen to award their winning purse, respectively, to the foundation of Père Sablon or foundation Ali and Princes Street.

President Yvon Michel of GYM is delighted to back the aforementioned action, saying, “This is our first event since June, after an absence of four months, which is very rare for our organization. We all know why! But that is now history and we are all very excited about getting back in action with our best boxers, especially in the main event that features our new national hero, the dynamic Adonis ‘Superman’ Stevenson. While the sports scene is quieter than usual, we will be presenting a spectacular evening full of emotions. It is a night not to be missed!”

The “Fast & Furious” 3.0 version series is also accessible to all in the comfort of their homes, airing on television through Canal Indigo, Bell TV, Shaw TV and in the US on WealthTV.

GYM wishes to thank its key partners, including Pierre Bibeau Loto Quebec, Robert Dépatie Videotron, Pierre Dion and Serge Fortin TVA Sports, Jacques Aubé of Evenko, Charles Benoit and Martin Spalding Astral Radio, Coors Light, Marc Roberge, Martin Trudel and Guy St-Pierre Tonikgroupimage, Marcel Savard BLlitho, Houston restaurants, Adidas and Rival. The plan is to win convincingly here against a young undefeated prospect and that will put me in line for a world title.”

All that matters to me is victory on Saturday night and doing it in the best possible way for the fans. He won’t have any friends in the arena on Saturday and his words won’t be able to help him then.”

Rafael Marquez out for Vazquez Jr.; Oquendo steps in for Marquez

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former world champion Rafael Marquez has pulled out of his October 6 showdown with fellow former champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.

“Rafael Marquez is facing health problems and working on some personal issues and will not fight against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.,” said Vazquez promoter Peter Rivera. “Now, we are going to make Vazquez Jr. against Oquendo, a fight long awaited by Puerto Rican fans.

A question of honour” – Kessler to challenge Brian Magee for WBA Super-Middleweight World Championship

Prior to Saturday´s Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn, Team Sauerland
is delighted to confirm that Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KOs) will
challenge Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KOs) for the WBA Super-Middleweight
World Championship in Denmark later this year. The date and the venue
will be announced in due time. “This will be a massive event, I believe
the whole country will get behind Mikkel,” promoter Kalle Sauerland
said. “He can become world champion for a record fourth time and restore
the Danish boxing pride by avenging the bitter KOs of Rudy Markussen and
Mads Larsen. It´s taken a while but now all is signed and sealed –
except for the venue and the date, which we expect to be finalised
shortly. Magee will feel the wrath of the Viking Warrior! It´s a
question of honour!”

After stopping Mads Larsen (January 2010) and Rudy Markussen (February
2012), Magee will be looking to complete his Danish KO hat-trick. At the
same time, Kessler will be trying to become world champion for a fourth
time, having proved his class with a spectacular KO victory over Allan
Green at PARKEN in May. His one-punch knock-out has been dubbed as a
potential KO of the year. “I look forward to fighting Magee,” the Viking
Warrior said. “He´s a good boxer with a lot of heart. It takes something
to come to Denmark and knock out both Mads and Rudy. But his winning
streak will end when we meet. I am very keen to be world champion again
and Magee cannot prevent this from happening. It will be interesting as
I think it will be a little like a national team match, I am a proud
Dane and this guy will take a beating for having knocked out my countrymen.”

Magee is convinced he will claim another prominent Danish scalp. “I am
ready for the hat-trick of KO´s,” he said. “I´ve stopped Larsen, I´ve
stopped Markussen and now it´s Kessler´s turn. He´s a great fighter, no
doubt about that, but I have the tools to break him. He ran from a fight
earlier in the year after he was ringside and witness to the destruction
of Markussen but now I have him and he will go the same way. I have
already commenced early training and I am working on a fight plan with
my coach Bernardo Checa. Denmark has been good to me and I am happy to
be going back.”

Further details about the Kessler-Magee fight will be announced after
Saturday´s Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn. At Arena Nord, Patrick
Nielsen defends his WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Title against
Spaniard Jose Yebes. The card also features the “Pacquiao Mayweather of
women´s boxing” – the showdown between WBA / WBC / WBO Female
Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus and French KO queen Anne Sophie
Mathis. Ahmed Kaddour, Torben Keller, Dennis Ceylan and Erik Skoglund
will also be in action. Tickets are available at arenanord.dk.

PACQUIAO-MÁRQUEZ 4 Saturday, December 8 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas Presented Live By HBO Pay-Per-View®

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (September 17, 2012) – Fighter of the Decade MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO of the Philippines and four-division world champion JUAN MANUEL “Dinamita” MÁRQUEZ of México will go mano a mano and toe-to-toe once again in a 12-round welterweight battle between two of this era’s top pound for pound and evenly matched fighters. Pacquiao-Márquez 4, the eagerly anticipated fourth act of their fistoric rivalry that has had fans and media standing on their feet for 36 action-packed rounds, will take place Saturday, December 8. It will be produced and distributed Live by HBO Pay-Per-View from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with MP Promotions, Zanfer Promotions, Márquez Boxing, Tecate and MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, tickets to Pacquiao-Márquez 4 will go on sale Friday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT. Tickets are priced at $1,200, $900, $600, and $400 and are limited to 10 per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

“Our previous fights against each other brought out the best in us,” said Pacquiao. “Of all the opponents I have fought, Juan Manuel Márquez is the only one who was able to anticipate many of my moves and effectively counter a lot of them. I underestimated him in our last fight but I will not make that mistake this time. Freddie Roach and I will make the most of every training day to prepare for Juan Manuel which is why my all my training will take place at Wild Card in Hollywood. No days will be wasted traveling between training camps in the Philippines and California. When I walk into the ring on December 8, it will be another opportunity to bring honor and glory to my country and to my fellow Filipinos in the Philippines and around the world.”

“I am very excited to be fighting Manny again,” countered Márquez. “I beat him the first three fights but did not get the decision; this time I will beat him again and I also will get the victory officially. It’s an election year and I am going to win by a landslide.”

“This fight I truly believe will be the best of the four that these two great warriors
have engaged in. After Pacquiao won a close decision from Márquez, both Pacquiao and Márquez want to win decisively to erase any doubts,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum.

“Fight fans everywhere love rivalries and the competition between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez has been intense and furious since day one and still is unresolved,” said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View. “We are delighted to work once again with both of these future Hall of Famers.”

“The third battle between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez was one of the biggest fights of 2011 and we look forward to another sensational event in December,” said Richard Sturm, president of Entertainment & Sports for MGM Resorts International. “It is an honor to host this international championship event as we end another successful year of boxing at MGM Grand.”

Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs), the lone congressional representative from the Sarangani province in the Philippines, returns to the Fight Capital of the World as the only fighter to win eight world titles in as many weight divisions. A three-time Fighter of the Year and the Boxing Writers Association of America’s “Fighter of the Decade,” Pacquiao’s resume features victories over future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Márquez. From 2008 to 2010, five of his seven victories were world title victories in five different divisions, where he dethroned super featherweight champion Márquez, lightweight champion David Diaz, junior welterweight champion Hatton, welterweight champion Cotto and he annihilated three-time world champion Antonio Margarito for the vacant super welterweight title. Pacquiao’s seven-year, 15-bout winning streak came to an end on June 9, when he lost his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown to undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, Jr. via a controversial split decision. Pacquiao’s knockout victories over Cotto and Hatton in 2009, his victories over Joshua Clottey and Margarito in 2010, his wins against Mosley and Márquez in 2011 as well as his disputed loss to Bradley in June have combined for more than seven million pay-per-view buys making Pacquiao a pay-per-view king. No boxer sold more live tickets in the U.S. than Pacquiao in 2010 and 2011, making him a pound-for-pound monarch in the ring and at the box office.

Márquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs), of México City, is one of only a rare few fighters from México to have won world titles in four different weight divisions. He captured his first world title – the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight championship – with a seventh-round stoppage of three-time featherweight champion Manuel Medina in 2003. He unified the title that same year with a decisive victory over World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight titlist Derrick Gainer. Márquez successfully defended the titles three times during his three-year reign, which included unanimous decision victories over Victor Polo and Orlando Salido and a Draw with Pacquiao. After losing the crown to Chris John and winning the WBO interim featherweight crown, all in 2006, Márquez moved up in weight to dethrone the legendary Marco Antonio Barrera and claim his World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight championship belt in 2007. After successfully defending the title, by a unanimous decision over Ricky Juarez, he lost the title in his 2008 rematch with Pacquiao by the slimmest of margins – a one point split decision. Since that fight, Márquez has won six of his last eight fights, including knockout victories of Joel Casamayor, Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis — the latter two in World Boxing Association (WBA) / WBO lightweight championship fights. In his last fight, on April 14, Márquez won his fourth world title in as many divisions, capturing the WBO interim junior welterweight championship with a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over Serhiy Fedchenko.

The Pacquiao vs. Márquez telecast, which begins at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT, will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to more than 92 million pay-per-view homes. VIDEO: KNOCKOUT KINGS POST FIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

Alvarez stops Lopez in five

Saul Alvarez defended the WBC Super Welterweight championship with an action filled fifth round stoppage over game Josesito Lopez in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

After a good round one, Alvarez started to open up with ripping combinations to the head and body. Lopez was able to get in some decent shots, especially when Alvarez was on the ropes. Alvarez landed a thunderous left hook to the body that sent Lopez to the canvas late in the second. In round three, Alvarez continued scoring and then landed another left to the body that deposited Lopez to the canvas for a second time. That did int deter Lopez as he tried to stand toe to toe but Alvarez had more dynamite in his hands. Lopez was bleeding from his nose and mouth After Lopez landed a nice flurry, Alvarez landed a wicked five punch combination that sent Lopez to deck for a third time. Alvarez started round five with a huge body assault that had referee Joe Cortez looking closely but Lopez fired back. Lopez continued to get in some solid shots and showed a championship heart. In the last ten seconds of the round, Alvarez anded four more hard shots that forced Cortez to step in and save Lopez from further damage

Alvarez, 154 lbs of Guadalajara, MX is now 41-0-1 with thirty knockouts. Lopez, 153 lbs of Riverside, CA is now 30-5-1.

“I’m not always looking for the knockout, but this was perfect tonight,” Canelo said. “I had a big responsibility fighting for my fans around the world this weekend and I think I made them happy. I want the big fights now – (Miguel) Cotto and (Floyd) Mayweather.”

“I knew he was a tough fighter and he proved he’s a better fighter,” Lopez said. “He was smarter, stronger and patient. I felt good going in but there was a big size difference. I was hoping to land a good punch to change the momentum.”

Daniel Ponce De Leon wrestled the WBC Featherweight championship belt away from Jhonny Gonzalez when a cut over the right eye of Gonzalez via an accidental headbutt forced the bout to be stopped in round eight.

In the early going it was Gonzalez who was landing the better punches. In round three, a cut formed around the left said of Ponce De Leon’s hairline. That seemed to inspire De Leon as he started landing some good lefts’s. The two boxed evenly over the next couple rounds until De Leon landed a straight left that sent Gonzalez through the ropes and down on the canvas in round six.

The volume of De leon started taking affect in round seven as he began to back Gonzalez up with lefts and rights. A clash of heads opened up a big cut over the right eye of Gonzalez and the fight was stopped at 2:36 of round eight.

De Leon, 125 1/2 lbs of West Covina, CA won by scores of 77-74, 79-72 and 79-72 and is now 44-4. Gonzalez, 125 lbs of Mexico City, MX is now 52-8.

Former 140 lb world champion Marcos Maidana scored a eighth round stoppage over Jesus Soto Karass in a Welterweight war scheduled for ten rounds.

The fight was fought at a high rate as Maidana uncharacteristically started boxing and featuring the jab on the first round. In round two, the continued landing good shots with Maidana landing some hard left hooks. The animosity started in round three as at the end of yet another action filled round, the two sot in each other’s face and had to be seperated. Referee Kenny Bayless took a point from each man in round four as the two continued to be unsportsmanlike. Soto Karass was fueled by that as he landed some hard shots before a big left from Maidana was landed just before the bell. Soto Karass picked up where he left off in round five and yet again the two needed to be separated as Soto Karass would not let Maidana get to his corner. In round six, Soto Karass landed some huge shots and landed body shots on Maidana against the ropes. Maidana spent alot of the round against the ropes.

Maidana was docked another point in round seven but he more then made up for it as he launched a big right hand that sent Soto Karass to the deck. Maidana came out firing in round eight as he landed a some booming shots on the ropes and after a few right hands, Bayless stopped the bout at forty-three seconds of round eight.

Maidana, 147 lbs of Margarita Santa Fe, Argentina is now 32-3 with twenty-nine knockouts. Soto Karass, 147 lbs of North Hollywood, CA is now 26-8-3-1.

Leo Santa Cruz scored an impressive stoppage over former Flyweight champion to retain the IBF Bantamweight title after Morel’s corner stopped the bout after five rounds.

It was an extremely fast paced fight from the outset with with guys meeting in the center of the ring and wailing away on each other with Santa Cruz getting the better. It was evident that Santa Cruz was not only quicker but had more thump in his punches as he landed many body shots, sometimes doubling and tripling with the flank shots and then coming with hard over hand rights and uppercuts. Morel put up a valiant effort but he kept taking hard shots and his corner had seen enough and stopped the bout after the fifth frame.

Santa Cruz, 117 lbs of Rosmead, CA is now 21-0-1 with twelve knockouts. Morel, 118 lbs of Madison, WI is now 46-4.

Good looking nineteen year-old Andres Gutierrez pounded out a six round unanimous decision over Carlos Valcarcel in a Jr. Featherweight bout.

Gutierrez was more active and landed the harder punches. He featured some solid uppercuts and had Valcarcel against the ropes on several occasions.

Gutierrez, 124 lbs of Quertiaro, MX won by scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 59-56 and is now 23-0-1. Valcarcel, 123 lbs of Catano, PR is now 12-6-4.

Francisco Vargas remained undefeated with a four round unanimous decision over Alan Sanchez in a Jr. Featherweight bout.

Both guys threw a high volume of punches but Vargas threw more and landed the much harder blows.

Vargas, 131 lbs of Mexico City, MX is won by scores of 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37 and is now 13-0-1. Sanchez, 127 1/2 lbs of Houston, TX is now 3-4-1.

Amir Khan official statement on Roach split:

After nearly four years together, in which we enjoyed some great success, I part ways with my trainer Freddie Roach. I would like to thank him for all his hardwork and help during this period and express my gratitude to him for the progress he helped bring about whilst I was under him.

I would also like to thank his team. I loved every minute training in LA at the Wildcard Gym, learning and sparring alongside some truly great fighters and meeting some fantastic people.

I feel now, however, is the right time in my career to make a fresh change and bring in a new trainer. I’m looking forward, and am excited, about the prospect of working alongside someone new. I will make an announcement in due course of who this will be.

There are some specific aspects of my game I’m looking to work on and hopefully improve. My next training camp begins in early October and I will have everything in place by then.

Pacquiao – Marquez IV is on!!!

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, Manny Pacquiao will take on Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth battle on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Because the economics for the Marquez fight were so much greater than for a Bradley rematch, that is what Manny decided to do,” said promoter Bob Arum. “It’s so much greater because of the support Marquez has from the Hispanic community. Look at the past numbers. When Pacquiao fought Marquez (in November), it sold close to 1.3 million pay-per-view. Bradley was about 900,000. That’s a big difference. Plus, the gate goes from probably $8 million to $12 million.”

“Manny knew I would prefer Bradley,” said Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach. “I think the money was a huge factor. Bradley doesn’t bring the people Marquez does. But I would have rather had revenge for that bad decision in June.”

Roach said because of the controversial nature of the three previous fights between Pacquiao and Marquez, especially their fight in November, that Pacquiao would start out “down three rounds on the scorecards. Judges are human. They know what happened before. Maybe the judges will be thinking Marquez was robbed last time and they’re human, and they will give Marquez the benefit of the doubt.

“But Manny picked Marquez, and that’s who we will get ready for. It’s about time we have a good knockout anyway.”

“We had to work it out, work out the money and then (Marquez promoter) Fernando (Beltran) had to close with Marquez because he had only talked generally with Marquez about the deal,” Arum said. “But we couldn’t close anything until Marquez got here (Thursday).”

“There is no sanctioning organization title involved,” Arum said. “We’re going to give that money to charity.”

Vargas remains perfect with decision over Martinez

Jesse Vargas christened a big fight weekend with a ten round unanimous decision over Aaron Martinez in a Welterweight bout at the Joint at The Hard Rock in Las Vegas.

Vargas was very solid throughout as he boxed well and the two engaged at times with Vargas getting the better of the action.

Vargas, 148 lbs of Las Vegas was making his debut under the Top Rank banner won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 ans 96-94 and is still perfect at 20-0. Martinez, 147 lbs of Los Angeles 18-2-1.

Jose Felix Jr. remained undefeated by scoring a ten round unanimous decision over Luis Cruz in a Lightweight bout.

Felix got off to a good start as he twice rocked Cruz in the first round. Felix was doing well until eating a straight left hand that sent him to the canvas. He shook that off well as mixed things up by boxing and coming forward and he controlled the ring over the last third of the fight and won by scores of 97-92, 96-94 and 99-94.

Felix Jr., 132 lbs of Los Mochis, MX is now 21-1-1. Cruz, 132 lbs of Las Piedras, PR is now 20-2.

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (September 11, 2012) – This week’s Méxican Independence Day weekend World Middleweight Championship event between undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion and Son of the Legend, JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ JR. (46-0-1, 32 KOs), of Culiacán, México, and two-division world champion and pound for pound kingpin with the matinee idol looks, SERGIO “Maravilla” MARTÍNEZ (49-2-2, 28 KOs), of Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, sold its last remaining tickets today at 1:58 p.m. PT. Chávez Jr. vs. Martínez will become the highest-attended boxing event in the history of the Thomas & Mack Center with 19,186 seats, eclipsing the Lennox Lewis vs. Evander Holyfield heavyweight championship rematch, which previously held the record with 19,151.

“Viva Chávez and Martínez,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “The last two tickets were purchased just before 2 p.m. PT and our sellout has produced a paid gate of over $3 million. How appropriate that on the eve of the 20th anniversary of Julio César Chávez vs. Hector Camacho, the Thomas & Mack’s fourth highest-attended event [17,972], which took place on September 12, 1992, that Julio César Chávez, Jr. surpass his father’s record in an epic fight of his own. Father and son will be forever linked as two of the highest-attended paid boxing events in the building’s history. Naturally, the live pay-per-view telecast will be available to all cable and satellite TV systems in the Las Vegas area.”

“This is a celebration about everything that is great about boxing,” said promoter Lou DiBella. “This is obviously a fight that everyone wanted to see and thanks to Sergio and Julio everyone will have the opportunity to see — live on pay-per-view. I strongly recommend that boxing fans in the Las Vegas area buy their tickets to the closed circuit screenings at Wynn Las Vegas now before they sell out too.”

Promoted by Top Rank®, Zanfer Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, in association with Wynn Las Vegas, AT&T and Tecate, the Chávez Jr. vs. Martínez Middleweight Championship Event will take place Saturday, September 15, Méxican Independence Day Weekend, at the Thomas & Mack Center, on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. AUSSIES INVADE LAS VEGAS

September 11, 2012 – Gary Shaw Productions newly crowded unified WBA and IBF middleweight champion, Daniel “Real Deal” Geale (29-1, 15 KOs), is scheduled to arrive in Las Vegas this week to be ringside at the September 15, 2012, Julio Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KOs) vs. Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 28 KOs) showdown, taking place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Geale, coming off his most impressive victory where he dethroned Germany’s Felix Sturm (37-3-2, 16 KOs), is interested to see who comes out victorious between Chavez Jr. and Martinez, as a possible fight with the winner could be next for him.

“The winner of Chavez Jr. and Martinez could be my next opponent,” said Daniel Geale. “I’m willing to fight the best out there and my promoter Gary Shaw is ready to make it happen. It’s an interesting fight and the winner puts himself in a great position to challenge me. I never shy away from a great test and I’ll be ready to go when Gary Shaw tells me who my next opponent will be.”

Geale’s fellow countryman, undefeated featherweight contender Joel Brunker (23-0, 13 KOs), who scheduled to make his U.S. debut on October 27, 2012, will join him while they both attend fight week activities.

“I’m excited to be traveling to the United States and be present for Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez,” stated Brunker. “I’ll remain in the States and start my training camp in preparation for my fight scheduled for October 27th. Daniel Geale and I both want to show the United States audience what we are made of.”

“I’m extremely excited to be promoting the best fighters out of Australia,” Shaw said. “Grange Old School Gym has been fantastic working with me and Daniel Geale, and it’s been a pleasure working with Angelo DiCarlo with Joel Brunker. The future looks bright for my company being that we have a great working relationship with all the top talent from the land down under.”

Ross aiming to checkmate Hernandez

Only a few days to go before IBF Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez
(26-1, 13 KOs) is hoping to defend his title against mandatory Troy Ross
(25-2, 16 KOs) at Stechert Arena, Bamberg in Germany. At today’s press
conference promoter Kalle Sauerland promised that the bout will be fought
out at the highest level. “It’s one of the best match-ups this weight
division has to offer!”

IBF-mandatory challenger Troy Ross agreed, stating, “Yoan Pablo Hernandez
has some great boxing abilities and a powerful punch. He seems like a nice
person but my all-around game is just better than his is. Boxing is similiar
chess. And after I checkmate Hernandez I will be the new IBF World
Cruiserweight Champion!”

Christopher Amos, the coach of 37-year-old Ross, is confident that his
prodigy will take the belt of Hernandez: “In 2010, Troy lost a fight against
Steve Cunningham for the vacant IBF Title. Back then he lost the fight due
to an injury to his eye. Afterwards, nobody wanted to fight him. They all
feared the risk of losing against Troy. That’s why we didn’t get a second
chance to fight Cunningham. That’s why I have a lot of respect for
Hernandez. At least he has the guts to face Troy Ross inside the ring.”

Amos gave one bold argument why he believes Ross is going to end up being
the winner: “Skills pay the bills!”

After hearing that, Hernandez seized the moment and told the gathered press
that his skills are superior to Ross. “I fought some world class opposition
and ended up beating them. I know that Ross has some speed as well as a mean
punch. But what can I say – I am not that bad either, to say the least.” The
27-year-old southpaw continued to speak about his preparation for the fight.
“After I broke the metacarpal bone in my left hand during the fight against
Steve Cunningham in February, it took some time before I was able to finally
train properly again. Now, everything is all right and I got trough sparring
without any problems.”

His coach Ulli Wegner seemed pretty relaxed himself before the fight. “Pablo
is like Sven Ottke. Not often I have coached a fighter who can analyze and
optimize his work out on the fly. He has an outstanding attitude to the
sport of boxing. That’s what is going to pay the bills come Saturday night,”
said the 70-year-old coach.

Tickets for the event in Bamberg can be purchased online at www.eventim.de
and www.kartenkiosk-bamberg.de.

Rigondeaux vs. Marroquin Title Fight Back On Manager Gary Hyde & Top Rank reach resolution

MIAMI (September 11, 2012) — World Boxing Association Super Bantamweight Champion Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux is expected to defend his title this Saturday evening against Robert Marroquin (22-1, 15 KOs), on the Sergio Martinez-Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. HBO Pay-Per-View event, live from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A Circuit Court in Miami ruled on August 21 to enjoin Rigondeaux (10-0, 8 KOs) from engaging in any bout not approved by his manager, Gary Hyde, and also enjoined Rigondeaux from participating in this Saturday’s scheduled show promoted Top Rank.

Last night, however, Hyde and Top Rank reached a resolution to allow the Rigondeaux-Marroquin title fight to go forward, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission was informed this morning.

“Thanks to my attorneys, Patrick English and Bill Brown, we have negotiated a far superior deal to fight Robert Marroquin on September 15th,” said Hyde, who has managed Rigondeaux since the two-time Olympic gold medalist defected from Cuba in 2007. “‘Rigo doesn’t get involved or side tracked by legal dramas. He has promised me that he is at his all-time best and that he will KO Marroquin.”

WBC No. 1 Cruiser Francisco Palacios Appears in Rematch Against WBC Cruiserweight Champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk In Wroclaw, Poland on Sept. 22

ORLANDO, Fla.—World Boxing Coucil No. 1-ranked cruiserweight Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios will receive his long-awaited rematch against Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk when they square off on Sept. 22 in Wroclaw, Poland.

Palacios (21-1, 13 KOs), a proud Puerto Rican puncher who was raised in Bayamon and now lives in Orlando, made his first appearance in a world championship fight against Wlodarczyk (46-2-1, 33 KOs) on April 2, 2011. The fight took place in Wlodarczyk’s native Poland.

A partisan, sold-out crowd of over 7,000 packed into the arena in the city of Bydgoszcz. Palacios felt he won the fight against an elusive opponent who appeared wary of his power, and one judge agreed with him 115-113 after 12 rounds. The remaining two caused controversy by choosing Wlodarczyk as the victor by the respective scores of 116-113 and 118-112.

It didn’t help Wlodarczyk that 3.2 million Poles watched the fight on television, and the announcers favored the American in the fight.

“It was a learning experience in that I knew I was winning the fight inside the ring, but I was in a foreign country and should have fought even harder to make Wlodarczyk open up, which wasn’t easy,” Palacios said. “I think the reaction by his own countrymen afterwards gives him no choice but to fight more in the rematch, which is what I want.”

Palacios demanded an immediate rematch from the WBC, but the sanctioning organization allowed the Pole an interim fight with Danny Green before facing Palacios. Wlodarczyk redeemed himself by traveling to Australia and stunning Green with an 11th-round technical knockout in a fight he had been losing on the scorecards. Now Palacios looms on Sept. 22.

“The first time I went to Poland, it was a good training camp but I didn’t have the camaraderie I now have with the sparring partners. This time, the guys I’m working with stay with me, eat dinner with me and they are giving me the mental support to beat Wlodarczyk. We are all working together to bring home a world title. This has been the best training camp of my life.”

The ever-talkative and outgoing Palacios has refocused himself for the rematch.

“Before the first fight, I was talking too much. I was paying attention to what Wlodarczyk was saying and responding to that. This time, I’m only focusing on my preparation and nothing else. It’s up to me to win this fight, not about my opponent losing it.

When asked what he’s doing better now than in the past, Palacios was quick to respond.

“I’m doing everything better. My major improvement is in mental preparation. I’m approaching this fight differently. This time, I’m going to tell the referee before the match that I’m coming to fight because this is a world championship.

“Every time I put some punches together in the last fight, the referee would warn me and break up the action. I spent too much time trying to keep the referee happy. Nobody’s going to prevent me from fighting this time—not Wlodarczyk, not the referee, not anyone. I am going to throw a lot of punches and throw caution to the wind, which is the kind of fighter I am anyway.”

Josue Aguilar, Palacios longtime trainer, has seen changes in his fighter.

“We will have a different approach this time,” Aguilar said. “It’s not enough just to win, Francisco must dominate.

“The biggest difference between then and now is we learned everything we needed to know about Diablo in the first fight, but he doesn’t even begin to know the real Francisco Palacios. That is who he will face in the rematch. The intensity level will be off the charts.”

Palacios’ promoter Don King has a long history of sending his fighters into hostile territories, so he remains resolute that truth will prevail in the end.

“Thomas Carlyle said, ‘No lie can live forever’ and I truly believe that,” King said. “Cisco is not the first American to travel overseas and receive an unfriendly decision. But that is not important. What is important is how he responds to the adversity.

“I have spoken to him, and he knows how important this fight is to his career. I love Cisco because he comes to fight. He’s my kind of fighter. He’s very important to me and all of us at Don King Productions—we’re all behind him, 100 percent. He will bring home the world title he has worked so hard for.”

Mares to fight Moreno November 10th in Los Angeles

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com., Super Bantamweight title holder Abner Mares will take on Bantamweight titlist Anselmom Moreno on November 10th at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

“Once the Pacquiao fight definitively moved to Dec. 8, the Nov. 10 date became available, since there are no other fights scheduled on that date,” said Showrtmes Stephen Espinoza. “The Nov. 10 date works better for Showtime’s schedule, and it gives Abner an opportunity to fight in his own backyard. It also gives us more time to market and promote our telecast. We will have a highly competitive main event matchup between two of the top fighters in the lighter weight classes, as well as a very exciting undercard to be announced shortly.

“Best of all, we are able to avoid conflicting with another boxing event, since we have Nov. 10 free and clear.”
