It is Hurricane Season in the Yucatan

Brampton, Ontario, Canada – Following up on her sensational victory on May 4th over Yolanda Segura, Ana Julaton (11-3-1, 1 KO) steps back into the ring on August 3rd in Kanasin, Mexico against the very dangerous Magali “The Magician” Rodriquez (6-4-1, 3 KOs).

Rodriquez, from Monterrey, Mexico, sports a misleading record as she has been in with some of the best – including two distance fights against the undefeated Janeth Perez, the current WBA Bantamweight Champion. That contest on February 4th was scored a draw when many of the experts at ringside had Rodriquez taking the decision.

“The Magician” relishes the opportunity to pull off a bit of magic in her native Mexico with an upset of Julaton and put her name back into the mix of talented female Mexican stars that have burst onto the world boxing scene.

Julaton’s promoter Orion Sports Management with their partners, Yucatan Boxing, have been staging shows in the Yucatan for a number of years and “The Hurricane” is right at home as a result. This will be her fourth major contest there and she brings not only local support in the Yucatan, where she has been nicknamed, “The Yucatan Princess,” but also millions of followers back in the Philippines where her career has an eager following based on the exposure provided by the GMA Network. Such will be the case on August 3rd, as GMA has confirmed their intention to continue covering Julaton as she works her way back to the World Championship.

“This another major fight for me,” stated Julaton. “Rodriquez is no walk in the park. She will bring it all on August 3rd and I have to be prepared accordingly.” Julaton, who yearns to fight in the Philippines, went on to say, “I have asked Allan Tremblay, my Promoter, to make that happen and I know he is undertaking discussions for a contest at home either late in 2012 or early 2013. That will be the ultimate for me. A proud Filipina finally getting a chance to fight in front of my many fans who have been supporting me for so long. This is my dream.”

Also appearing on the card are two of Orion Sports highly touted prospects, junior welterweight Felix “El Destino” Mercedes and cruiserweight Milos “The Buffalo Bomber” Pantelic.

Martirosyan – Lara fight ordered by WBC

A fight that will potentially pit top Super Welterweight contenders Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan has been ordered by the WBC according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

If the two camps cant agree to a deal by July 27th a purse bid will be ordered.

The winner of the proposed fight will be the mandatory challenger for champion Saul Alvarez

In a series of entries on his Twitter account, Martirosyan wrote this on Thursday: “Now [it’s] time to focus on Saturday night, then we focus on this Lara fight. … Guys, there is no ifs. I said yes to the Lara fight. Already 100 percent. I’m [on] board. I just wanna focus on Saturday night, then we get back to Lara.”

Martirosyan is scheduled to face Ryan Davis (24-9-3, 9 KOs) in what should be a walkover on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., in the untelevised portion of the Nonito Donaire-Jeffrey Mathebula junior featherweight unification bout that headlines an HBO card.

Froch, Bute to rematch in 2013 after interim bouts

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch and the man he beat Lucian Bute will meet in a rematch next year after they each take interim bouts this fall.

Froch stopped Bute in round five on May 26 in Froch’s hometown of Nottingham, England and rematch will take place in Bute’s adopted hometown of Montreal.

“Froch versus Bute has already gone down as one of the greatest nights in British boxing history,” said Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “It generated record television audiences and a sold-out arena where fans were treated to what many respected pundits and fighters have described as one of the best atmospheres ever felt in a British fight. Of course, like any fighter, Lucian is keen to avenge this defeat and, as per our agreement, has the opportunity to try to make that happen.

“Both myself and Lucian’s promoter, Jean Bedard (of InterBox) feel that it is in the best interests of both fighters and any future rematch that both fighters will take an interim fight later this year. Froch versus Bute II in Montreal is a massive event and I’m sure that impressive victories for both men later this year will add further fuel to the fire.”

“We will be looking to announce an opponent for Carl in the next few weeks for another big fight in the U.K.,” he said.

“That was not the real Lucian Bute in that Nottingham ring on May 26,” said Bute, who had made nine defenses before being cut down by Froch. “I spent the last few weeks reflecting about what went wrong, what happened, and the only thing that is crystal clear in my mind is that I want my rematch with Carl Froch as soon as possible.”

Said Bedard, “There is no hiding the fact that the result on May 26 was hard on everyone. But even in defeat, in the locker room after the fight and the days following the loss, I still felt Lucian had the fire in his belly to come back stronger and demand his rematch with Froch. Matchroom is a great organization to work with and I have been speaking to Eddie once or twice a week since May 26. I almost know his number by heart.”

Ninety seconds into the fight, Fortuna staggered Evans with a left hand to the head and then heavily floored him with another left hand to the head and a right hand on top of the head as he was falling to the mat. He trapped him on the ropes, tagged him with a few shots and then hammered him with another left hand to drop him again, this time face first, as [the] referee stepped in at 2 minutes, 2 seconds.”

In his last bout, Fitzpatrick scored sixth round stoppage over Ken Dunham on February 4th.

In a six round Jr. Welterweight bout, Naim Nelson (6-0, 1 KO) takes on Esteban Rodriguez (5-1-1, 1 KO) of Lebanon, PA.

In a six round Cruiserweight bout, Dan Biddle (8-2, 5 KO’s) of Delaware battles Pedro Martinez (6-5, 3 KO’s) of Philadelphia

In a six round Light Heavyweight bout, Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell (11-0, 6 KO’s) of Atlantic City, NJ takes on Mojeed Okedara (9-5, 8 KO’s) of Nigeria.

Super Prospect, Jesse Hart (1-0, 1 KO) will be making his East Coast debut when he takes on Steven Chadwick (0-3) of Jacksonville, FL in a four round Middleweight bout.

Hart is coming off a thirty-three second knockout in his pro debut that took place on June 9th on the Manny Pacquiao – Timothy Bradley undercard and he is the son of former legendary Philadelphia Middleweight Eugene “Cyclone” Hart.

Heavyweight Mark Rideout of Philadelphia makes his long awaited pro debut when he battles Randy Easton (0-0-1) of Williamsport, PA

In a battle of pro debuting Welterweights, Anthony Prescott of Cherry Hill, NJ takes on Philadelphian DeAndre Phillips.

“This is a terrific card with some very interesting things to look at”, said Marc Abrams who will be calling the action ringside.

“Majewski brings an International feel plus he can really fight against a tough kid in Fitzpatrick. There is a good back story in the Biddle – Martinez fight as Tommy Barnes now trains Biddle and he used to train Martinez. Harvell is really improving and has blasted out his last two opponents in scary fashion and he now has to be looked at as a legitimate prospect in the Light Heavyweight division. Charles is always in entertaining fights. Naim Nelson is a young guy to keep your eye on. Jesse Hart has been talked about for years as possible the next great Philadelphia champion and he signed a great deal with Top Rank. Combine that with the mastery of a Russell Peltz card and the fans will get more than their monies worth on July 7th”

NBC SPORTS GROUP RENEWS FIGHT NIGHT BOXING SERIES

NEW YORK – July 2, 2012 -NBC Sports Group will partner with Main Events to produce a second season of the network’s successful primetime boxing series Fight Night. The Saturday night boxing series will expand from six telecasts to-up-to 16 and will showcase compelling match-ups between some of the world’s best fighters.

NBC Sports Group will continue to work with Main Events and Hall-of-Fame matchmaker J Russell Peltz, to once again feature a multi-promoter strategy for the series. Designed to produce the best quality fights, the collaboration allows any promoter the opportunity to get their boxers involved in these programs and allows viewers the ability to see world class match-ups that would not otherwise take place.

“We are once again reaching out to all promoters to get involved in the series.” said Kathy Duva, president, Main Events. “The multiple promoter format worked incredibly well during season one and we are hoping to continue to build on the momentum. All fighters who are willing to further their careers by engaging in compelling, interesting, meaningful matches are welcome.”

“This series is the best thing that has happened to boxing in years,” said Hall-of-Fame promoter/matchmaker J Russell Peltz. “In just four shows, we have seen the emergence of US heavyweight prospect Bryant Jennings and junior middleweight contender Gabriel Rosado. We have shown matches between world-rated fighters and that’s something you rarely see these days on television. On top of that, the fights have been promoted the old-fashioned way, in sold-out noisy venues in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Bethlehem and Newark. This is the way boxing was meant to be.”

“Fight Night has been a tremendous success. The unique approach to have multiple promoters competing to put fights on the NBC Sports Network has allowed us to produce compelling match-ups and incredibly exciting shows” said Jon Miller, President, programming, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “NBC’s is committed to the property and we are looking forward to expanding the series from six telecasts to-up-to 16.”

Two dates have already been scheduled for the 2013 calendar, and additional dates will be announced as they are confirmed. A minimum of six telecasts will take place each year on the NBC Sports Network, and up to two broadcasts will air each year on NBC.

As part of the agreement, an additional Fight Night telecast has also been added to the 2012 calendar. The show will air on Saturday, December 22 on NBC, from 4-6 p.m. ET. The fight card will be announced at a later date.

Kenny Rice will continue to serve as the play-by-play commentator for all telecasts, and will be

joined by Hall-of-Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach and cruiserweight contender B.J. Flores. Chris

Mannix will continue to serve as the ringside reporter for each telecast.

FIGHT NIGHT 36: The NBC Sports Network will continue to use its all-access 36 series to compliment the Fight Night telecasts. In 2012, individual Fight Night 36 episodes featured fighters Zab Judah and Eddie Chambers. The collaboration between Fight Night 36 and Fight Night allowed fans a unique opportunity to go behind-the-scenes prior to each fight and see how the boxers train, spend time with their family and interact with fans.

About Fight Night: NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night series is collaboration between NBC Sports, Main Events and J Russell Peltz. The series premiered on January 21, 2012 with Freddie Roach and BJ Flores on the call, and Kenny Rice serving as reporter.

Adamek to return on September 8th in daytime PPV

Former Light Heavyweight & Cruiserweight champion turned Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek will jump right back in the ring on September 8th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey as he will headline an afternoon Pay Per View to accomadate Polish television according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

No opponent has been announced but it will not a rematch with Eddie Chambers. Chambers lost a close unanimous decision to Adamek on June 16th. Chambers is due to have surgery on his left bicep which hurt in the first round of the June 16th bout.

“At the end of the first round, I felt something rip,” Chambers said Thursday. “I remember thinking, ‘Hey, that didn’t feel right.’ It turns out that I tore a tendon that connects my bicep to the bone. I am having surgery on Monday to repair that.

“Once I have the surgery, I will do physical therapy for about two months. I will keep in shape physically, you know, running, and anything that doesn’t require the upper body, etc., just to stay in shape and to stay ready so that once I get back it’s not going to take as long to get ready for fighting. I want to get back into a fight as soon as I possibly can after that.”

“Tomasz wanted to stay active and we wanted to try out the pay-per-view in Poland again,” said promoter Kathy Duva. “We discussed with Ziggy and Tomasz about trying to do it for the June 16 fight, but that fight was on NBC (Sports Net) in the United States (at night), which is like 4 or 5 in the morning in Poland, so that didn’t work for a pay-per-view over there.

“So we decided it might be worth trying to do one of these shows with Tomasz in Newark in the afternoon. He wants to fight in the U.S. and work at rebuilding his audience here.”

Rahman out of Povetkin fight

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former world champion Hasim Rahman has pulled out of his WBA World title challenge with champion Alexander Povetkin on July in Germany due to a wrist injury.

“He was working out and he had excruciating pain in his wrist because of the cyst,” said Rahman’s promoter Greg Cohen said. “His trainer, Eddie Mustafa (Muhammad), stopped the session and had him go to the doctor. He had an MRI. ‘Rock’ wanted to have a cortisone shot, but the doctor said it wouldn’t help. So he had surgery (Thursday) morning. Everything went fine. He’s out for two weeks. Really, it’s a minor thing, but obviously we have to postpone the fight.”

“All of us were looking forward to the event,” Sauerland Event managing director Chris Meyer said, “but it is our responsibility to deliver world-class boxing to the spectators inside the arena and the audience at home in front of their TVs. Therefore, after hearing (about) the injury of Alexander’s opponent, we had to cancel the whole show.”

“Our contract calls for a postponement if there’s an injury,” Cohen said. “From our perspective, the fight will be postponed. We’re the mandatory, and Povetkin has to make his mandatory defense. I expect Rahman and Povetkin will be fighting each other in their next fight. It’s a matter of the German TV date.”

“It was a pretty substantial cyst around the wrist, and he said from time to time he had discomfort, but never a big deal,” Cohen said. “‘Rock’ is not a complainer. He didn’t have it checked out. (Wednesday) he said it was like a sledgehammer hitting his wrist every time he punched. He saw the doctor, had the surgery. He did the right thing. Now we have to reschedule the fight.”

“They were disappointed to hear the news but appreciative that as soon as we knew we informed them,” Cohen said. “We hope to have a new date worked out with them soon.”
