Cano decisions Pintor
Ivan Cano scored a ten round unanimous decision over Mauricio Pintor in a Jr. Welterweight bout in Ciudad, Mexico.
Cano dropped Pintor from a hard left hook in round one. The fight was sloppy and rough as Pintor was deducted a point for hitting in the break in round three while Pintor was deducted a point for headbutts in rounds five and nine.
Cano, 140 lbs won by scores of 99-91, 98-90 and 98-91 and is now 21-4. Pintor, 139 lbs suffered his first loss and is now 17-1-1.
Alfonso Epazote scored a six round unanimous decision over Jorge Urias in a Lightweight bout.
Epazote, 132 lbs was making his pro debut. Urias, 131 lbs is now 3-9-1.
Ernesto Ortiz scored a first round stoppage over Juan Carlos Cortez in a scheduled four round Jr.Welterweight bout.
Ortiz stopped Cortez with a body shot and is now 2-0 with two knockouts. Cortez was making his pro debut.
Mayfield stops Serrano in five

Karim Mayfield scored a fifth round stoppage over Raymond Serrano in a battle of undefeated Jr. Welterweight at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.
Not much happend over the first two rounds and then in round three Mayfield landed a right hand that sent Serrano to the canvas. Mayfield landed a big right to punctuate the round. Both guys were cut due to a headbutt. Just before the end of round four, Mayfield landed a booming right hand flush on the jaw and Serrano crumbled to the canvas. Serrano stumbled back to corner and chaos ensued as Serrano’scorner began arguing with each other on weather to stop the fight. That conflict lead to the stool no getting into the corner and Serrano was not able to get the proper attention needed.
Mayfield capitalized on that as he jumped on Serrano and landed a big right hand and the fight was sopped.
Mayfield, 139 lbs of San Francisco is now 16-0-1 with ten knockouts. Serrano, 139 lbs of Philadelphia is now 18-1.
Jason Escalera and Nick Brinson fought to an entertaining eight round draw in a Middleweight bout.
Brinson boxed well early as he landed some decent right hands and flurries. Escalera came on late and had Brinson in trouble in the seventh round. The fought hard down the the stretch with each guy gaining the nod on a card by 76-75 tallies while a third card read 76-76.
Escalera, 160 lbs of Union City, NJ is now 13-0-1. Brinson is 9-1-2.
Anthony Jones scored two knockdowns en route by scoring a four round unanimous decision over Kevin Rooney Jr. in a Middleweight bout.
Jones hit Rooney with a right hook in round one that drove Rooney into the ropes that was ruled a knockdown. In round two, Jones landed a perfect straight left that sent Rooney down to the seat of his pants. Rooney fought well in the last two rounds but the knockdowns were the difference.
Jones, 161 lbs of Newark, NJ won by scores of 39-35; 38-36 and 38-36 and is now 2-0-1. Rooney, 160 lbs of Catskill, NY is now 4-2.

Berto tests Positive; Ortiz fight likely off

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former two-time Welterweight world champion Andre Berto has tested positive for a banned substance which no puts in doubt his June 23rd rematch with Victor Ortiz.
Promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN.com he was unsure of what Berto tested positive for but confirmed the result.
“I know he tested positive,” DiBella said. “I have nothing else to say. I don’t know all of the details so I have nothing else to say.”
“Obviously, we are disappointed that Berto’s ‘B’ sample came back positive,” Schaefer, Ortiz’s promoter, told ESPN.com. “I was informed late Saturday of the ‘A’ sample testing positive and urged an immediate testing of the ‘B’ sample. We just got the results that the ‘B’ sample tested positive as well. It’s unfortunate. We have to see what happened because I don’t know.
“This is obviously a very unpleasant situation to say the least, but at the same time, there is no room for any form of performance-enhancing drug use in boxing. I am not accusing Berto of anything, but that happens when you want to clean up the sport and you agree as a fighter and promoter to go through these kinds of procedures. I hope this will lead athletes to be more careful with what they eat or drink or take. Everybody needs to educate themselves more about what is permitted and what it is not permitted. But if it takes two or three or four fights to be canceled, so be it. There can be zero tolerance for the use of banned substances.”
“At the present time, I cannot explain the positive drug test, which was provided as part of a voluntary anti-doping program in which I agreed to participate,” Berto said in a statement. “I know that I have never used any steroids or other banned substances, and I am investigating all possible causes of the positive test with my attorney, Howard Jacobs. I have never cheated, and all of my success has come from hard work and dedication.”
Berto has had Victor Conte, founder of the notorious Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, in his training camp for this fight.
Conte, however, denied he had any involvement in the positive test.
“Andre Berto’s positive test for (norandrosterone) has absolutely nothing to do with me or any supplements I provided. Likely trace contamination,” Conte tweeted. “Andre has admitted to taking supplements other than what I provided without my knowledge. Apparently, something was contaminated.”
“We did our job. We stand by the integrity of the test and the testing process,” said Dr. Margaret Goodman, who heads VADA and is a former chief ringside physician for the Nevada State Athletic Commission. “It’s not our role to determine what comes next for Mr. Berto. At this point it would be inappropriate for me to discuss the matter further with the media.”
After the fight last year, Berto accused Ortiz of using performance-enhancing drugs in his upset victory. Now it is Berto who has tested positive, an irony not lost on Rolando Arellano, Ortiz’s manager.
“When you point the finger there’s three pointing back at you, but we will take the high road,” Arellano said. “We’re going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt.
“We want to fight him and he wants to fight us, so we are going to wait until there is a complete fact finding in this case. We know what VADA has to say and we’re curious what about what Berto has to say. Hopefully, there is something that went wrong. Maybe the jars got mixed up. But it doesn’t look that way. Victor will go on, but this is awful for boxing fans who wanted to see another fight of the year.”
Arellano said he informed Ortiz of Berto’s positive test and his response was “complete and utter silence. Then he said, ‘I’m going to the gym.'”
Schaefer and Showtime both told ESPN.com they have no intention of canceling the card. “This means another terrific fight that fans were looking forward to appears like it’s not going to happen,” Schaefer said. “I want to know what the origins of this (positive test) are. I have been told that it could have something to do with food contamination. But I’m not going to go and cancel the event. Let’s learn more, let’s see what will happen. In the meantime, my team is working behind the scenes to come up with an alternative opponent.”

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGNS WORLD CHAMPION JOHAN PEREZ AND FORMER AMATEUR STAR JULIAN RAMIREZ
LOS ANGELES, May 17 – The best roster in boxing added to its luster this week with Golden Boy Promotions’ signing of current WBA Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Johan Perez and unbeaten former amateur standout Julian Ramirez to multi-year promotional agreements.
“This is a big day for us and I’m proud to have these two boxers fighting for us now,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “Boxing will never grow if we don’t keep cultivating new talent and in Johan and Julian, we’ve signed two fighters that you’re going to be hearing a lot about in the months and years to come.”
A 28-year-old native of Caracas, Venezuela, Johan Perez (15-0-1, 12 KO’s) turned professional in 2005 and rang up five consecutive knockout victories. Following a two-year layoff resulting from the lack of professional boxing events being promoted in Venezuela, he returned in 2009 and steam-rolled through all comers, with the only blemish on his record being a 2011 draw with 16-0 fellow prospect Alberto Mosquera. Along the way, Perez fought anyone, anywhere, with stops in Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, England and Mexico garnering him a solid fanbase and the WBA Fedecentro and WBA Fedelatin super lightweight titles. In October of 2011, he stunned highly-regarded Kenny Galarza with a fourth round technical knockout victory and less than two months later, he won the WBA Interim Super Lightweight World Championship with a fourth round stoppage of Fernando Castaneda, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable future.
19-year-old Julian Ramirez (2-0, 2 KO’s) hails from Alhambra, Calif. and, as the nephew of the late, great Genaro “Chicanito” Hernandez, this talented teenager undoubtedly has boxing in his blood. A long-time amateur standout, Ramirez compiled a record of 73-5 en route to racking up 10 tournament titles including four World Desert Showdown titles, four National PAL titles, one Junior Olympics Championship and the 2011 Mexico Games Championship. In February of this year, he made his professional debut with a first round knockout win over Javier Damien. Two months later, Salvador Cifuentes suffered the same fate, lasting just 80 seconds with the hard-hitting Ramirez, who has ‘star’ written all over him.
Both fighters’ first fights under the Golden Boy Promotions banner will be announced at a later date.

BIGGEST NIGHT-EVER JUNE 9 FOR THREE PHILLY FIGHTERS

Philadelphia, PA—In perhaps the biggest night-ever for Philadelphia fighters, three of them will appear as part of the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley championship card on June 9 at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
Mike Jones and Teon Kennedy will challenge for world titles, while amateur star Jesse Hart, son of former Philadelphia middleweight legend Eugene “Cyclone” Hart, will make his pro debut.
Jones (26-0, 19 KOs), the undefeated No.1 welterweight contender, will meet former two-time world champion and current No. 2 contender Randall “The Knockout King” Bailey (42-7, 36 KOs), of Miami, FL, for the vacant IBF welterweight title in a scheduled 12-round contest.
“This is a dream come true to be fighting for the title,” said Jones (right). “I’ve thought about this ever since I started boxing. I’ll do whatever I have to do to win the title.
“He (Bailey) has to watch out for my big shots, too,” the 29-year-old Jones said of Bailey’s well-known power. “He’s shown he can be knocked out as well. He has his weak points; he doesn’t have a real good jab and he doesn’t put combinations together well. His thing is just trying to bomb you out with one punch, but it’s hard to hit a moving target and that’s what I’ll be.”
Kennedy (17-1-2, 7 KOs) will square off against defending WBA super bantamweight titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux, of Cuba, also over 12 rounds. Rigondeaux is 9-0, 7 K0s, and had an extensive amateur career which included Gold Medals at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.
“I can’t let him (Rigondeaux) fight his fight and let him get comfortable,” said the 25-year-old Kennedy (below). “I have to force him to make mistakes and take it to him in the first few rounds to show him that I’m there to fight. I believe that I can win a decision. I’m ready mentally and I’m in shape physically. I can’t wait for the fight. It’s a special night to have all of us Philly guys on the same show.”
Hart, a storied Philly amateur star who won the 2011 National Golden Gloves at 165 pounds and the 2011 USA National Championships at 178, will fight as a middleweight or super middleweight. He recently signed a lucrative pro contract with Top Rank. He is trained by his father, who was 30-9-1, 28 K0s, as a pro in the 1970s–a knockout artist who fought in-and-around Philadelphia his entire career.
Father and son are thrilled that Jesse’s pro debut will be in Las Vegas.
“It’s big, real big, to be fighting my pro debut on the Manny Pacquiao show in Las Vegas,” said the 22-year-old Hart. “For all the years my dad fought, he never fought in Las Vegas, so it’s a big thrill for both of us to be in Vegas. This is dad’s dream. It will make for a great show to have us Philly fighters out there. You can’t go wrong.”
One interesting note about the three Philadelphia fighters is that they are managed by Doc Nowicki, who handles Jones with Jim Williams, Kennedy with Williams and Joe Hand, Hart with David Price.
“I’m going to get a segway so I can get from the fighters’ locker rooms to ringside and then back to the locker rooms to celebrate and then do it all over again for my next fighter,” Nowicki said. “It’s going to be a hectic, but tremendous night.”
mMA Events on GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

– Friday, May 18, 2012 4:00am ET featuring Cage Fighting Championship 21 at the Homebush State Sports Centre in Sydney, Australia. Jesse Juarez (17-8) who is a former Bellator fighter based out of California claimed the CFC world title with a majority decision win against Justin Murray at CFC 13 in April 2010. Juarez’s first title defense was an unanimous decision win against Manuel Rodriguez at CFC 18 and he has gone 1-1 on US promotions since defending his title and will look to defend it for a second time against Robert Whittaker. 21 year old, Whittaker (9-1) who fights out of the PMA Super Martial Arts Centre in NSW, has built an impressive domestic record in Australia and is yet to go to the judges’ scorecards in any of his fights. His most recent outing was at Superfight Australia 13 in Perth where he defeated Shaun Spooner with a first round stoppage. The main support bouts will also bring none stop action with two Australia vs USA heavyweight fights set. In the first heavyweight showdown, “Big” Jim Yorke takes on Jeff “The Snowman” Monson. Yorke is on a four fight win streak which was kicked off by his win on CFC 14 against American, Brandon Cash. He is also a Sengoku veteran so has some deep international experience behind him. Monson is a two time ADCC World Champion, has fought in the UFC, Strikeforce and M-1 and with 57 professional fights under his belt, will be Big Jim’s biggest opponent to date. In the second heavyweight showdown, Soa “The Hulk” Palelei, will take on the infamous, 2005 K1 Grand Prix Champion in Bob “The Beast” Sapp. Palelei who stands at a huge 6’4 inches tall, will take on the even bigger frame of the 6’5″ Bob Sapp who also walks around much heavier than The Hulk. In Sapp’s most recent fight at SFL 1 in Mumbai, India, the American tapped in round 1 after suffering a suspect injury.
– Friday, May 18, 2012 11:00pm ET featuring Ultimate Reno Combat 33 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. In the main event, Brad Robasciotti (3-1) fights Brandon Costa (4-1) for the URC Light Heavyweight Title. The fans demanded it and now they have it. This is an immediate rematch as Robasciotti was victorious in the last bout defeating Costa via TKO in round 4 and winning the title from him. With such a quick turnaround both fighters will not have much time to change their games up so expect this bout to be another wall to wall war. The first fight was back and forth with Robasciotti ultimately getting his hand raised at the end, but many feel the fight was stopped too early, hence the rematch. Both fighters will be looking to make a definitive statement in this bout, so don’t blink. The co-main event, Randall Wallace (2-0) battles Anthony Hernandez (4-0) for the URC Middleweight Championship. This is for the vacant 185 lb title and both fighters come into the bout undefeated. Someone is walking away with gold, while the other is walking away with the first loss of his career. For Wallace, he is a heavy puncher who has finished both of his fights in the first round. He will look to connect with one of his bombs early and make it a quick night. Hernandez is a fighter that can end things with his hands, but also has the stamina to go the distance and outwork his opponent for a decision. Since it’s a 5 round fight, Hernandez could look to take Wallace into deep waters and into the later rounds and then from there try to stop him. In the third title match of the evening, Spencer Roberts (4-1) takes on Daymond Bland (3-1) for the URC Flyweight Title. Roberts comes into the fight as the champion making his first title defense. He won the title back in October 2011 with a submission and has defeated 3 opponents by tapout. He is a fast starter and always looking to finish the fight so this bout should be exciting. Bland has stopped all 3 of his opponents for victories and along with a submission game, possesses strong knockout power. When the 125 lb fighters are in the cage anything can happen as these are some of the most overall skilled fighters in the sport. Look for fight of the night between Roberts and Bland.
– Saturday, May 19, 2012 10:00pm ET featuring Rumble at the Roseland 63 at the Roseland Theater, Portland, Oregon. In the main event, for the FCFF Heavyweight Title, Damion Martindale (9-5) battles undefeated Nick Biron (5-0). Biron comes into the fight the reigning heavyweight champion a title Martindale has previously held. The 265 lb title has been a hot potato for FCFF lately and there’s no telling what will happen when these two heavy hitters collide in the cage. Biron has finished 3 of his opponents by TKO and looks to make that 4 as he throws punches with bad intentions. Martindale will look to knock off the undefeated Biron and capture the title all at the same time using his grappling skills to get Biron to tap out. Martindale likes the arm triangle so if and when the fight hits the mat look for heavy punches from Biron and submissions from Martindale. In the co-main event, Jordan Hinchman (3-1) fights Jeremy Morse (6-3) for the FCFF Light Heavyweight Title. Hinchman comes into the bout holding the belt and looks to make his first title defense against Morse who has won 4 out of his last 5 fights. Morse likes to grind down and wear out his opponents and he will have to have a full tank of cardio if he is going to be able to do it to Hinchman and take his title. Hinchman is 12 years younger than Morse and has shown a quick grappling style. None of Hinchman’s 4 fights have ever gone the distance so it will be interesting to see his high risk-high reward style matched up against the very methodical and workman like style of Morse. Whichever fighter can get the pace of the fight where he wants it will be at a huge advantage inside the cage. In the third title fight of the night for the FCFF Lightweight Championship, Clint Patterson (5-4) takes on William Hall (6-2) in a rematch that is over two years in the making. Hall fights out of Team Quest and comes into the bout as champion looking to avenge an earlier loss in his career to Patterson. Patterson defeated Hall by first round armbar in 2010 and this is Hall’s opportunity to get some sort of revenge. Hall is an exciting fighter who has never had a fight go to the third round so expect him to come out guns blazing and push the pace from the opening bell. For Patterson, if he can pull off another submission win or get a victory by any means necessary, he will not only have beaten the same opponent twice which is very hard to do, but he will walk away champion. Patterson has the submission skills to win again, but Hall will also try and neutralize Patterson’s attacks with his wrestling and relentless style. This could very well be fight of the night.

AMATEUR STAR TOKA KAHN-CLARY SIGNS WITH TOP RANK

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (May 15, 2012) – Top Rank announced today the signing of amateur sensation TOKA KAHN-CLARY, from Providence, Rhode Island. Kahn-Clary, 20, who boasts speed, power and a “pro style of fighting” is trained by Peter Manfredo Sr. and managed by Mike Criscio, who discovered and managed light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson. Kahn-Cary will make his pro debut, as a junior lightweight, on Friday, June 8, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, on a card headlined by the Kelly Pavlik vs. Scott Sigmon super middleweight bout.
“Everyone at Top Rank is excited and what a great way for Toka to start, fighting on the Kelly Pavlik card at the Hard Rock,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum.
“Toka is a top prospect who is the real deal. He throws a lot of punches and hits hard,” said Bruce Trampler, Top Rank’s Hall of Fame matchmaker.
Manfredo added, “Toka is the best I’ve seen at our gym in 35 years – and I’ve seen a lot of fighters. He has speed, skill, tremendous combinations and a big heart.”
A native of Liberia, Kahn-Cary moved to Philadelphia when he was six, where he was soon orphaned, losing his father in a shooting that same year. He made his way to Pawtucket, RI, where life was not any easier, but eventually he was taken under the wings of Andrea Watson, her husband Ron Clary and Manfredo. Those three and boxing proved to be Kahn-Clary’s salvation. As an amateur, Toka was a Gold medalist at the National Golden Gloves (2010), a Silver medalist at the U.S. Championships (2011), and a Bronze medalist at the U.S. National Championships (2012, 2010.)

Lawrence of Indianapolis is 17-2-2 with twelve knockouts and has scored five straight knockouts over the likes of former contender Lance Whitaker, former U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada and his bout when he stopped Raymond Ocheing.
He expects to have the same result with the very tough Mollo.
“Mike Mollo cant fight. He just swings wildly”, said a (to put it mild) confident Lawrence from Indianapolis.
“Andrew Golota boxed him and then beat him half to death”, continued Lawrence in reference to Mollo’s January 19, 2008 defeat to Golota.
“The guy has no inside game and he is not ready for me. He doesn’t do anything textbook but I will give him credit because he does take a good beating.”
With the recent hot streak that he is on, Lawrence believes his date with destiny is getting closer by the fight.
“I will be fighting for the championship within a fight or two. My ratings would be higher except the guys ahead of me are ducking me.”
“Once the networks see what I can do, they will know I am a serious challenger for the title”
Lawrence held training camp in Indianapolis is proud of his state.
“I am Midwest to the bone and a true Hoosier and can’t wait to bring the Heavyweight championship home to Indianapolis.”
Lawrence is promoted by Fisticuffs Promotions and the CEO Dave Escalet sees big things for Lawrence.
“This is a great fight for Franklin. And when he looks great on Friday night, It will be six in a row against top competition and he will have earned his opportunity for a big fight”, said Escalet
The action begins on www.gfl.tv at 7:30 pm with Mike Mittman calling the action with analysts Legendary Heavyweight champion Larry Holmes and Marc Abrams.

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT
CHICAGO, IL (May 14, 2012)—This Friday night two Heavyweights will slug it out in Dover, Delaware will slug it out as Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence (17-2-2, 12 KO’s) takes on Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KO’s) for the vacant NABA title.
The bout can be seen over the world on www.gfl.tv ($9.99) by clicking: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/Friday_Night_Fights/1487
Mollo has been training hard for this bout as the Chicago native knows the importance of the bout.
“Not only am I going to win but I will win in spectacular fashion. I have been putting in the hard work and have been in training camp for ten weeks”, said Mollo from his training camp in Chicago.
Mollo does not put much stock in the five fight knockout streak that Lawrence is on that has catapulted to the number-twelve ranking by the WBC.
“He beat an out shape Jason Gavern and Jason Estrada. He has gotten off easy in those fights and if he wants to live off that then he is fooling himself”
Mollo is most remembered for gallant effort against Andrew Golota as part of the Roy Jones – Felix Trinidad HBO PPV undercard on January 19, 2008 and knows what the win will do for his career.
“This fight will get me back in the spotlight and I am not looking to squeak by with a decision”
Mollo, who hasn’t fought since August 6, 2010 has been training hard to make sure he is primed and ready for Lawrence.
“I spar like it is a real fight and this long layoff doesn’t mean anything because I am always in the gym. I was training for a fight last summer with Seth Mitchell on HBO and the fight got called off due to Robert Guerrero getting hurt and I would like to fight him if it’s the right situation. I am a fighter”
“This fight with Lawrence begins my road to redemption. I am in great shape and I am ready to fight”
The action begins on www.gfl.tv at 7:30 pm with Mike Mittman calling the action with analysts Legendary Heavyweight champion Larry Holmes and Marc Abrams.

THE ELITE HEAT BOXING TEAM, TO CALL THEM SPECIAL IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT
The Elite Heat Boxing Team is made up of an extremely special group of inner city kids who have chosen the sport of boxing as their focus and have obtained monumental success on a national level. Based out of the Elite Heat Boxing Gym in Newark NJ, the kids who make up “the team” can be seen on a daily basis honing their craft with the dedication and drive rarely seen in any athletes other than the most successful world champions on the planet. Their days start at the crack of dawn where these kids are literally doing road work with the vigor and passion that it takes to be a champion. We are talking about 8 year olds – 14 year olds that have made the commitment to focus their energy on something positive, stay off the streets & in addition to their intense training regimen they are required to attack their school work with the same dedication and intensity.
In 2011 The Elite Heat Boxing Team had 5 Team members win National Championships at the Junior Golden Gloves Tournament in Mesquite Nevada at The Casablanca Sports Complex. This unprecedented level of success was the culmination of all the hard work and sacrifice that these kids put in for a year leading up to the National’s. This year “The Team” is looking to improve upon last year’s results and aim to have 17 Team member’s win National Championship’s at the Junior Golden Gloves in July 2012.
Between the 17 Team Member’s, coaches & chaperones, there are many airline tickets, uniforms, equipment, hotel rooms, meals, rental vans and entrance fees that need to be paid for. I cannot think of a better, more positive cause to donate to. I am asking you to look into your hearts and open up your wallets to assist these special kids in their quest to become National Champions. The truth is whether they win or lose at the Junior Golden Gloves in July, all these kids are already champions. The courage, discipline and honor they display on a daily basis to get to this point is truly remarkable. Please join The Elite Heat Boxing Team as a sponsor/donor, it feels good to be a part of the winning team!
(Please contact Mr. Vito Mielnicki at 973-738-3982 or via email at vmsplash2003@aol.com to make your much appreciated contribution to The Elite Heat Boxing Team)

Escobedo decisions Ruiz

Vicente Escobedo tuned for a potential world title opportunity with a ten round unanimous decision over Juan Ruiz in a Jr. Lightweight bout in Woodland, California.
Escobedo was very aggressive and was in control from the outset.
Escobedo, 129 lbs of Woodland, CA won by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91 and will now look for a Summer world title bout with WBO champion Adrien Broner with a record of 26-3. Ruiz, 129 lbs of Santa Clarita, CA is now 23-10.
Oscar Godoy scored a stoppage over Jamie Del Cid did not come out for the third round of their scheduled four round Middleweight bout.
Godoy, 152 lbs of Watsonville, CA is now 5-2 with three knockouts. Del Cid, 156 lbs of Sonoro, MX is now 5-7
Ulises Soriano and Gabriel Pineda fought to a four round majority draw in an entertaining Lightweight bout.
The two traded heavy shots during the fight with Soriano, 136 lbs winning a card at 39-37 while the two other cards read 38-38.

Nelson knocks Jhonson from undefeated ranks
Late replacement Willie Nelson turned in his performance as a professional by scoring a ten round unanimous over previously undefeated Yudel Jhonson in a Jr. Middleweight bout at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas.
It was an action packed fight that featured Nelson dropping Jhonson from a hard right hand in round two. Nelson was able to land some hard right hand shots as the fight progressed.
The fight turned in round four as Jhonson landed a booming straight left to the middle of Nelson’s head that sent the 6’4″ Nelson crashing down to the canvas. It was such a perfect shot that it was surprising that Nelson was able to beat the count.
Jhonson was able to box well over the next couple rounds until Nelson was able to start landing some long lefts and rights that kept Jhonson on the outside. Those shots caused some swelling around the right eye of Jhonson. Nelson had a good round nine by landing some solid combinations. Nelson put an exclamation on the fight in the final round by landing a good left that staggered Jhonson.
Nelson outpunched Jhonson to the tune of 136 of 534 while Jhonson landed just 77 of 377.
Nelson, 151 1/2 lbs of Cleveland won by scores of 97-92 on two cards and 95-94 and is now 18-1-1. Jhonson, 151 1/2 lbs of Santa Clara, CUB is 12-1.
“It was my fighter’s instinct that got me back to my feet after that knockdown,” said Nelson. “But once I got up, I was only hurt for a couple more seconds.”
Jhonson felt differently about the knockdown. “The referee did a poor job. He gave [Nelson] a lot of time to recover from that knockdown,” said Jhonson. “I thought I did enough to win.”
Nelson added, “I will definitely be staying at 154 pounds. I felt great in there. I can’t be beat at this weight.”
Badou Jack scored a razor thin split decision over Alexander Brand in a eight round battle of undefeated Super Middleweights.
It was a close battle the could have gone either way that saw Jack trying to box more conventional but was befuddled by the unorthodox Brand.
It was appear ant early that Brand was going the be in the fight as he rocked back, jumped in and threw punches from all angles. Jack did his best work on the ropes while Brand was able to score best in the middle of the ring.
Jack, 167 lbs of Stockholm, SWE won by scores of 77-75 on two cards while a third card had Brand ahead by a 77-75 tally. Jack is now 11-0. Brand, 166 1/2 lbs of Bogota, COL is now 17-1
“[Brand] was awkward and he didn’t want to fight. I had to press him to get to him,” said Jack after the fight. “I will do better next time.”
LEGENDARY “RAZOR” SHARPER THAN EVER
TORONTO, ON (May 9, 2012) – In the late 80’s and early 90’s he was the most feared heavyweight on the planet.
Bone-chilling knockout after bone-chilling knockout drove then champions Evander Holyfield, George Foreman, and Riddick Bowe into hiding.
Now, after carving a path of destruction through the last great heavyweight era, and going nineteen rounds against the most ferocious heavyweight of all time in “Iron” Mike Tyson, Donovan “Razor” Ruddock is ready to reclaim the Canadian Heavyweight crown that he never lost in the ring, and ultimately earn the world title shot that was denied him some twenty years ago.
This Saturday night at Mississauga’s Hershey’s Centre, Ruddock will make his comeback official, and give the crowd a sneak peek at one of the most startling athletic transformations in recent memory.
Eleven years after his final fight, a spectacularly chiselled, lean, and dangerous 48 year-old Ruddock is ready to breathe new life back into the comatose heavyweight scene.
“I’ve never been in this shape in my life,” the 211 lb. Ruddock beamed.
“I always got by on my ability, and trained as hard as I knew how back in the day. But now I know so much more. Not just about boxing, but myself as well.”
Be warned, the 2012 version of Donovan Ruddock isn’t venturing on a stereotypical boxing comeback. Unlike other boxers who step back in to the ring, Ruddock (38-5-1, 29 KO’s) was never pounded into retirement in the first place. After suffering his final defeat – a controversial TKO loss to Tommy Morrison in June of 1995 – a much heavier “Razor” returned from a three year hiatus to go on a 10-0 rampage that included 9 KO’s, before a shoulder injury forced him to hang up the gloves in 2001.
“At this weight I feel even faster, stronger and more lethal than when I had ringside doctors running all over the place,” Ruddock said.
Ruddock is hoping that a busy summer – consisting of at least three fights – will culminate in a clash with reigning Canadian Heavyweight champion Neven Pajkic.
“First thing, I want my Canadian Heavyweight title back.”
“I really respect Neven. He’s a warrior who carries the title with class and pride. But, sadly for him, he’s wearing the belt that I want.”
“Then when Neven is healing up, hopefully he’ll take some comfort in the fact that I’ll be putting Tyson Fury, Chris Arreola, Derrick Chisora, David Haye, Bermane Stiverne, Seth Mitchell, and Tomasz Adamek, on the exact same pudding diet too.”
“And after I feast on the appetizers, I’ll dive in for two helpings of Chicken Kiev,” Ruddock, an avowed vegan, said of facing the current heavyweight kingpins, Ukrainians Vitaly and Wladimir Klitschko.
“The older brother (WBC Heavyweight champ Vitaly) avoided me 11 years ago, and now he has to pay. And the younger one (WBA, IBF, WBO Heavyweight champ Wladimir) just bores me. I’ll have to knock him out too.”
Mayweather – Cotto generates 1.5 million PPV buys

The May 5th Floyd Mayweather – Miguel Cotto megafight was just that as it amassed 1.5 Million Pay Per View buys which equated to $94 Million.
“The 1.5 million number is actual reported numbers,” Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com. “The final number will definitely be bigger than what it is now.”
“Floyd Mayweather’s numbers are getting bigger and bigger and this number shows you the kind of draw he is,” Schaefer said. “He’s a superstar and able to capture the interest of a large audience. He has broken out of the boxing following and now has a mainstream following that is unmatched in the sport. The numbers keep getting bigger and bigger.”
The bout is the second biggest non heavyweight bout of all time behind Mayweather’s bout with Oscar De La Hoya
THOMAS “CORNFLAKE” LAMANNA LOOKS TOWARDS SUMMER FIGHT AS HE REMAINED UNDFEATED AFTER DEFEATING LAST MINUTE REPLACEMENT
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (May 11, 2012)—On April 27th at Resorts in Atlantic City, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna remained perfect as he scored a six round unanimous decision over last minute replacement Sean Wilson in a Middleweight bout.
With the win, LaManna (8-0, 5 KO’s) is looking to come back in July at his more natural Jr. Middleweight weight class.
LaManna had to move up in weight just twenty-four hours before the fight as his bout with Keauntry Henson was scrapped due to Henson having an unforeseen personal issue.
Like LaManna, Wilson had his fight fallout the day before and he was left without an opponent and despite the six pound weight disparity, Wilson & LaManna were matched up.
LaManna drank some fluids before he jumped on the scale to weigh 158 lbs to Wilson’s 160 lbs.
LaManna boxed his way to unanimous decision victory to move his record to 8-0 with five knockouts.
“That stuff is just part of the business”, said LaManna
“I knew I worked hard and was able to fight . Fighting a bigger guy didn’t phase me at all. Even though I trained to fight a southpaw and Wilson was Orthodox, I was confident in the work I put in and my skills to get the victory”
The twenty-year old native of Millville, NJ also credits his one week stint at The Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas for his success in the fight.
“I learned a lot that week when I was at the Mayweather Boxing
Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna will be back in the ring in July.
“I am looking forward to a fight in the summer and my team has been talking about some exciting opportunities for that fight”
Statement from the Team of Lamont Peterson on the Cancellation of Peterson vs. Khan II

Washington, D.C. (May 10, 2012) – IBF and WBA Light Welterweight Champion Lamont Peterson’s team issued the following statement in response to the cancellation of the Peterson vs. Khan II rematch:
Team Peterson is very disappointed and distraught by the decision to cancel the May 19th rematch against Amir Khan. This is an extremely difficult decision to accept. We have always taken the position of providing factual information rather than responding emotionally to rumors and innuendoes. We did everything that was asked of us in efforts to comply. To support our stance we provided the Nevada State Athletic Commission with a significant amount of factual medical data in response to these allegations. Lamont did a battery of test this week and saw a number of independent board certified physicians. They all had the exact same conclusion as the doctor that initially treated and diagnosed Lamont’s medical condition. It began as a confidential medical matter between a patient and his physician; unfortunately, it has now become a public issue in efforts to clear the name and reputation of this young man.
As a condition for this rematch Lamont demanded that Olympic style random drug testing be implemented. He has been a true advocate for making boxing drug free and fair. In his 18 year career (10 amateur and 8 professional) Lamont Peterson has never failed a drug test and has always complied with the rules beyond this isolated and explainable occurrence. We still stand behind the fact that he did nothing wrong and he was more than ready to go through with the May 19th fight. He is a man of tremendous character and will. His work ethic is second to none and in every sense of the word he is a true Champion, in life, as well as in the ring.
We will vigorously pursue the truth with regards to this matter and continue to fight to protect this young man’s character, credibility and all he has accomplished. Once all the facts have been reviewed we have no doubt that he will be vindicated.
Ward – Dawson showdown in the works

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com a tremendous bout between Light Heavyweight champion Chad Dawson & Super Middleweight champion Andre Ward is being worked on for the fall.
“We have two fighters in their primes, two lineal champions. I think it’s a great fight. You just don’t get it in our sport too often,” Said Ward’s promoter Dan Goossen told ESPN.com on Thursday. “Two champions facing one another allows the winner to go out there and continue his climb to superstardom. That’s what this fight is about. We need more of this in boxing. In boxing we want the big fights and it’s very seldom you can have two world champions willing to face each other in their primes.”
“Our intent is to have it for Andre’s super middleweight championship,” Goossen said. “I still have a few things to close up with (Dawson’s Promoter) Gary Shaw. Gary and I have had good conversations and we’re moving in the direction to making this fight happen.”
“Chad has never ducked anyone and I believe the fight will get made,” Shaw told ESPN.com. “It’s going to be a great fight, a very interesting matchup between the best American fighters in their divisions. We want it very much as we want to fight the best. Dawson has fought all the top fighters at 175 pounds — Antonio Tarver (twice), Glen Johnson (twice), Bernard Hopkins (twice) and Adrian Diaconu — and we have a score to settle with Jean Pascal.” Pascal handed Dawson his lone defeat.
“Atlantic City just had a great turnout for Dawson-(Bernard) Hopkins and I believe we could get 19,000 at Oracle Arena,” Goossen said. “So I am partial to Oakland.”
“I am ready to fight the best 168- and 175-pounders that are out there,” Ward told ESPN.com in a recent interview. “At this point, a big fight at 175 is interesting to me. I don’t want to go up just to go up. But for the right fight, for a big fight, I would go up. I’m willing to fight anyone at ’68 or ’75.”
“Ward-Dawson will be on HBO and we’re looking forward to it,” Goossen said. “It’s kind of a homecoming in a lot of ways, including working with Ken (Hershman).”
“Unlike in the tournament, where we had everything lined up for the next challenge, we were looking for something that was big after the tournament,” he said. “We were looking at the winner of Hopkins-Dawson. With Chad being the winner, we put our attention there.
“I know some people are surprised we are going for this fight, but in Andre’s career we have done things that have surprised people from the beginning. In his 20th fight we put him in the tournament and out of the box he was facing (titleholder Mikkel) Kessler and people said, ‘What are you, nuts?’ We try to push the envelope and try to do things bigger than people anticipate.”

Best of the bunch could be the six-rounder between lightweights Kareem Cooley (2-1,1K0) and Tevin Farmer (4-3-1, 1K0).
It matches Cooley’s skill against Farmer’s hustle. Cooley, the taller of the two, is taking a big step up against Farmer. Farmer’s most impressive win over Tim Witherspoon, Jr., was a result of Farmer’s heart and hustle. Farmer does not rest for a second once he is inside the ropes and Cooley won’t let him regardless.
Also on the undercard is a six-round bout between DeCarlo Perez (6-2-1, 2K0s), of Atlantic City, NJ, in with Lenwood Dozier (7-4-1, 3K0s), of Glen Burnie, MD. Dozier is coming off a tough loss to Jose Peralta Alejo, of Jersey City, NJ; Perez is coming off a loss to Rafael Montalvo, of St. Clair, PA. It’s a must-win situation for each man.
Hasan Young, of Philadelphia, makes his pro debut against Cassius Clay, (0-2), in a junior welterweight fight. Clay, a New Jersey native, lives in Las Vegas, NV, and is traveling back to make his East Coast debut. Young is a natural; he makes counter-punching look easy.
Philadelphia cruiserweights Amir Shabazz (1-0) and Ken Rosser (0-2) go at it in a four-rounder. This marks Shabazz’ first fight after a 16-month lay-off due to injury. Rosser is your typical Philadelphia fighter; he took this fight on short notice. Rosser has heart, something you can’t teach. Oscar Pagan, of Camden, NJ, and Ben Lovett, of Philadelphia, will make their debuts in a junior middleweight bout.
The Cauthen-Robinson main events marks his second fight close to his Trenton, NJ, backyard. He once trained members of the NAC. This also will mark Robinson’s first bout at the NAC and his first time fighting for a title!

BROADWAY BOXING RETURNS TO ROSELAND BALLROOM THURSDAY JUNE 14

New York, NY (5/10/12) – On Thursday, June 14, DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series returns to New York City’s famed Roseland Ballroom for its third installment of 2012. Headlining the card will be world-rated welterweight contender Thomas Dulorme (14-0, 11KO’s), who is widely considered as one of the most promising young boxers in all of boxing, as well as Long Island’s fan-favorite undefeated light heavyweight prospect, “Irish” Seanie Monaghan (13-0, 8KO’s).
Broadway Boxing kicked off the 2012 season with an action-packed, sold out card at Roseland on January 21. DBE followed that up with another completely sold out event on March 7 at B.B. King Blues Club and now returns for what promises to be another thrilling night of boxing with the undercard featuring some of the most exciting and popular fighters throughout the New York area.
Dulorme, 14-0, 11KOs, is of Dominican descent but he has spent the large majority of his life as a resident of Puerto Rico. The 22-year-old NABF Welterweight Champion is part of Team Puerto Rico, a group of fighters promoted by DiBella Entertainment, Gary Shaw Productions, Universal Promotions and Warriors Boxing. Already rated as the WBC #3 and WBA #4 welterweight in the world, Dulorme is coming a first-round annihilation of Aris Ambriz, 16-2-1, 8KOs, on February 17, which was the main event on ShoBox: The New Generation, shown live on SHOWTIME®. Boxing insiders have been raving about Dulorme’s ability for some time now, and the blue-chip prospect continues to inch closer to his first world title opportunity in the very near future.
Every time that Long Beach, New York’s Seanie Monaghan, 13-0, 8KOs, steps into the ring, his army of fans continues to grow. Monaghan, who last fought on the undercard of Sergio Martinez’ middleweight title defense against Matthew Macklin at Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick’s Day, has become a staple fighting on the undercard of almost every recent major card that has come to New York due to his action-packed, fan friendly style. Now, on June 14, Monaghan will have the opportunity to headline what could be the first of many more shows to come in the future for the dynamic light heavyweight prospect.
Additional bouts will be announced shortly.
Tickets are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45, with a limited number of VIP tables available for purchase as well. VIP Tickets are priced at $150, and there are four seats to a table. Tickets can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577. Call soon as tickets are already going fast and a third consecutive sellout for the Broadway Boxing series is expected.
