Cotto to change trainers for Margarito rematch

Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that WBA Super Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto replaced Emanuel Steward with Pedro Luis Diaz for his December 3rd rematch with Antonio Margarito.

“I met Pedro Luis as an amateur several years ago and had the opportunity to share time with him in several international competitions,” Cotto said in a statement. “I was instantly amazed as to the vast boxing technique and conditioning knowledge that he transmitted to his fighters. I feel that together with (strength and conditioning coach) Phil (Landman), Pedro Luis is a perfect fit to bring my best potential for my next fight in December and lead me to victory.”

“It’s kind of surprising. Everything had been in place for me to train him,” Steward told ESPN.com.

“I want to take this opportunity to express my wholehearted gratitude to Emanuel Steward, who I consider a friend and mentor,” Cotto said in his statement. “Because of calendar conflicts and other matters, we were unable to work together for this next fight. He is one of the best trainers I have ever met in boxing and I will be forever appreciative for the two fights we worked together. We have both kept the doors open to maybe join forces in the future if the circumstances and timing are adequate.

“Now I will focus on my training camp. I feel happy and thrilled as ever to commence preparing for December. I will be ready and will win the fight for all of (my fans).”

This is the second high-profile fighter to replace Steward in recent weeks. Former light heavyweight titlist Chad Dawson, unwilling to train in Steward’s Detroit gym for what would have been their second fight together, replaced him with one of his former trainers, John Scully, as he prepares for his Oct. 15 challenge of champion Bernard Hopkins.

Although Dawson made the switch, he also has spoken highly of Steward in recent interviews and television appearances.

“Naturally, I thought about that,” Steward told ESPN.com, when asked about losing two top fighters in such a short period of time. “But each case is an individual case. Dawson wanted to stay closer to home and that was the last thing I was going to deal with. So he got somebody else he was comfortable with. In this case, Miguel wanted to start training already and wanted me there for longer than our unusual five or six weeks together.”

“Phil said to me, ‘Give me two weeks to get his body in shape’ and then I was going to come in for the regular camp of boxing training. I was going this weekend,” Steward said.

Three considerations in choosing a UPS for backup power.(Uninterruptible Power Supplies)

Security Distributing & Marketing February 1, 2005 | Engebretson, David J.

How do I select the proper UPS for a security application?

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) provides backup AC power for connected devices, allowing an orderly shutdown of computer equipment in the event of a power failure or blackout. As electronic security systems become integrated with network equipment, providing for backup power has become another important issue that systems integrators must address during the planning and installation phases of a project.

[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Once the number of computers or other devices are added up, along with the amount of standby time required, the calculator will provide a recommendation.

While it is a straightforward proposition to determine the power requirements, it is important for security installation companies to understand that there are actually three distinct UPS types, each providing different levels of surge and brownout protection for the devices connected to it. powersupplycalculatornow.net power supply calculator

The economy model of UPS is generally termed a standby backup offline (SBO) device. This product provides direct connection between utility power and the protected computer equipment, with the same level of surge protection found in an inexpensive plug-in surge protector six-pack extension cord. If power fails, the UPS will switch on the battery backup, which is connected through an inverter that converts the DC power from the battery into 60-hertz AC. This emergency power is generally available for only a few minutes, which is enough time to shut down running programs and computers in an orderly manner. (Of course, this assumes that a quick-thinking and acting person is on hand at the time of the power failure.) The next increment in UPS protection is the line interactive (LI) UPS. These devices have all of the characteristics of an SBO, with the addition of a power-line monitoring function, which can add power from the battery pack to make up for brownout voltage deficiencies. This voltage regulation feature is important, and worth the increased cost. powersupplycalculatornow.net power supply calculator

The top level of protection is provided by the on-line type of UPS, which provides a complete electrical firewall between any connected devices and utility power service. Incoming AC power is conditioned and provided in a three-step process.

First, the AC current is converted into DC and filtered through capacitors, which remove transients, harmonic distortion, and other unwanted elements. The backup batteries are connected at this first stage, so that when their power is drawn, it is filtered and conditioned by the on-line UPS before reaching the connected local devices.

The second stage provides voltage regulation and a second set of capacitors, which can store power and help to sustain voltage output during brownout conditions.

In the final step, the DC is converted into clean sinewave 60-hertz AC power, which is supplied to the connected devices.

Because of this three-step design, an on-line UPS provides transition to backup power with no start-up or delay time. Computers and software are fully protected from utility power anomalies because of the electrical isolation provided.

An important consideration for the system contractor is what will occur when power fails and the UPS takes over. Will the security devices connected continue to function normally, or will they need to be reset manually after the power interruption? After installation, the security company should initiate a power failure, observe how the equipment behaves, and establish a written procedure for the client to reset devices and restore functionality.

MIKE JONES MAKES GARDEN DEBUT DEC. 3 AGAINST SEBASTIAN LUJAN FOR IBF TOP WELTERWEIGHT SLOT

Philadelphia, PA—Undefeated welterweight contender Mike Jones, of Philadelphia, PA, makes his first appearance at Madison Square Garden on Saturday evening, Dec. 3, when he faces two-time world title challenger Sebastian Lujan, of Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, in one of the featured fights on the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito card.

The winner of the Jones-Lujan 12-round contest will gain the No. 1 position in the welterweight rankings of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), currently ruled by Andre Berto.

“This is a tougher assignment than the ones Mike had with Jesus Soto-Karass,” said promoter J Russell Peltz, whose company is promoting this match with Top Rank, Inc. Peltz was referring to the two victories Jones (pictured) earned over Mexico’s Soto-Karras, the first one Nov. 13, 2010, in Cowboys Stadium by 10-round majority decision, the second one last Feb. 19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas by 12-round unanimous decision.

“Mike said that if fighting Lujan over 12 rounds is what he has to do to get a title shot, then he’s fine with it. He knows what he has to do to win and he knows he has to be in the same shape—or better—than he was for the second fight with Soto-Karass.”

Jones: “Lujan puts on pressure, but not constant pressure like Soto-Karass. He moves his head a lot more than Soto-Karass but he throws wide punches. This could put me in line to fight for the world championship.”
A pro since 2005, Jones, 28, has a 25-0 record with 18 knockouts. He is ranked No. 3 by the IBF, No. 1 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) behind champion Manny Pacquiao, No. 3 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 4 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Jones currently holds three titles—North American Boxing Association (NABA), North American Boxing Organization (NABO) and WBC Continental Americas, but it’s the world title he craves.
Lujan, 31, scored a big win in his last fight July 1 in San Antonio, TX, when he rallied to knock out Filipino southpaw Mark Melligen in nine rounds after accepting the match on short notice.

A pro since 2001, Lujan is 38-5-2, 24 K0s. In two world title fights, he was stopped—due to a badly torn left ear—in 10 rounds by Margarito for the WBO welterweight title in 2005 in Atlantic City, NJM. Lujan also lost a 12-round decision to lefty Sergii Dzinziruk for the WBO junior middleweight title in 2006 in Munich Germany.

Lujan has won his last 12 fights in a row.

ABOUT DEC. 3

The Mike Jones-Sebastian Lujan IBF eliminator is part of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito II world championship telecast, which begins at 9 pm (EST)/6 pm (PT). It will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to more than 292 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in HDTV for those who can receive HD. Hernandez dethrones Cunningham, wins IBF Cruiserweight Title

Ulli Wegner believes that Yoan Pablo Hernandez (25-1, 13 KOs) victory over IBF Cruiserweight Champion Steve Cunningham (24-3, 12 KOs) should have been a first round KO rather than a sixth-round technical decision. The hard-hitting Cuban knocked down his American opponent in the first round with a huge left hook. “The referee saved Cunningham from a flash KO,” Wegner said of the count that lasted at least 14 seconds. “He gave Cunningham too much time to recover. And then his corner extended the recovery time between the first and the second round by staying in the ring after the bell sounded to start the second round. That helped Cunningham to get back into the fight. But nevertheless I am proud of Hernandez. He fought a great fight and he was clearly leading on points when the fight was stopped later.”

After the exciting opening round, Hernandez remained in control. In the third, a clash of heads opened a badly-bleeding cut on the left side of his head. In the fifth, another clash of heads caused a cut above his right eye. The ring doctor inspected the cuts after the sixth round and advised referee Mickey Vann to stop the fight because Hernandez could not see clearly with blood running into both eyes. The fight went to the scorecards where Hernandez was ahead (59-54, 58-55, 56-57). “I am thrilled to be the new champion,” Hernandez said. “This is like a dream coming true for me. I have waited for this moment for a long, long time. Cunningham was a tough opponent and I am proud that I defeated him.”

Next up for Hernandez, who had both cuts stitched up at the hospital, is the mandatory defence against Troy Ross. In the co-featured main event, Grzegorz Proksa clinched the vacant European Middleweight Title after stopping former IBF Middleweight Champion Sebastian Sylvester. Proksa landed a big left in the second round that opened a big cut above Sylvester´s right eye. After the third, the cut was bleeding so badly that the Hurricane gave up. “I could not see his punches coming any more,” he said. “My plan was to attack in the later rounds once he had run out of gas but clearly the cut made it impossible. I am very disappointed but I have to congratulate Proksa on strong performance. He did very well.”

In the third title fight of the night, IBF Light Heavyweight Intercontinental Champion Karo Murat defended his title with a draw against Gabriel Campillo. The scores were 115-113 Murat, 111-117 Campillo and 114-114.

OLUSEGUN AJOSE DEFEATS ALI CHEBAH TO BECOME MANDATORY CHALLENGER TO MEXICAN LEGEND ERIK MORALES ON SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION

Olusegun Ajose earned a shot at World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight champion and Mexican legend Erik Morales with a unanimous decision victory over Ali Chebah in Friday’s main event of ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME® from Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, Calif.

In the ShoBox co-feature, No. 5-ranked World Boxing Association (WBA) and 12th-ranked World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight Darley Perez scored a sixth round knockout over Oscar Meza when Meza’s corner stopped the bout following the sixth round. The win advanced the unbeaten prospect to 23-0 with 18 KOs.

In the main event, Ajose, the No. 1-ranked super lightweight contender, came out with an unorthodox yet aggressive style, landing sweeping right hooks on Chebah, the No. 6-ranked contender. Ajose opened up the third round with fireworks, landing a huge right hand to the top of Chebah’s head that send him stumbling to the canvas. Chebah beat the count but was immediately met with another onslaught from Ajose, who knocked down his opponent in 10 seconds with a brutal right hook. Miraculously, Chebah survived the round, although he lost it 10-7 on the judges’ scorecards.

Ajose (30-0, 15 KOs), of Nigeria, continued his showmanship yet he slowed his pace and failed to inflict much damage as the 12 round contest wore on. Chebah never relented in coming forward but an injured right hand prevented him from landing any damaging punches while the majority of Ajose’s power shots were high and wide.

Chebah (33-2, 26 KOs), of France, came on strong in the championship rounds, winning the crowd over in the 12th as they chanted his name. In the end, Chebah didn’t do enough to win over the judges, who scored the bout 120-106 and 119-107, twice.

“I have to give respect to him – he was a good opponent,” said Ajose. “I wanted to stop him in the third but he’s strong and he kept going. I had to be careful. I think I hit him well but he trained hard. I hurt my hand in the middle rounds and wasn’t able to finish him.”

Ajose, who was making his U.S. debut, now has his sights on Morales and the WBC title.

“I am the mandatory challenger so there isn’t any reason I shouldn’t fight him,” Ajose said. “He’s the champion so let’s get it on. They need to keep their promise and let us fight. I’m ready as soon as possible. I’d fight him tomorrow if they let me.”

While Chebah didn’t protest the decision loss he did think the scores should have been a little closer.

“I think I lost but not by as much as the judges had it,” Chebah said. “I wasn’t able to compete at the level I wanted. The gamep lan was to get him tired as the rounds went on, but in the third my hand swelled and I didn’t get any body shots. I just didn’t have any power in my right hand and that was the difference.”

Boxing legend and ShoBox commentator Antonio Tarver was impressed with Ajose’s performance.

“Ajose seemed like the real deal tonight and I don’t blame Morales if he doesn’t want to fight him,” Tarver said.

Darley Perez remained perfect by scoring a stoppage after round six of a scheduled ten round Lightweight bout.

Perez was solid over the first few rounds by jabbing and working the body. Meza was keeping Perez honest by landing a shot here and there. In round three, Meza was bleeding from the nose.

Perez continued to work the body and pump the jab and mixed in a good left hook. In round six, Perez stepped on the gas and pressed Meza to the tune of opening a cut over his left and that gave Perez even more cause to continue the systematic beating.

After round six, Meza looked beaten and the fight was stopped by his corner.

Perez, 133 1/2 lbs of Argentina is now 23-0 with eighteen knockouts. Meza, 136 lbs of Mexico is now 22-5.

“I was just getting into rhythm when they stopped it but I’m really happy with my performance,” Perez said. “I usually get warmed up after the sixth round so I think I would have knocked him out.”

“I thought they would have stopped the fight in the fifth. I could see it in his eyes – he was hurt. It was a good stoppage.”

While disappointed with his performance, Meza disagreed with his corner.

“I thought I would do more damage in the fight,” Meza said. “After I got hit in the left eye I couldn’t see the punches coming. I was hurt but I think I could have rallied. I’m not happy with the stoppage but I’ll live to fight another day.

Martinez stops Barker in eleven to retain Middleweight crown

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ–Sergio Martinez retained the undisputed Middleweight title with a eleventh round stoppage over previously undefeated Englishman Darren Barker at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Martinez boxed well over the first two frames using his quickness. Barker got into the fight in round three as he landed a couple nice right hands but probably wasnt enough to take the round. In round four, Barker landed numerous right hands that had blood squirting out of the nose of the champion. Martinez settled in once again by flicking shots from his unorthodox “Hands Down” defense. Martinez started putting more punches in bunches in round six only to have Barker land a big right at the bell.

Martinez started getting comfortable by sticking and moving while Barker was looking for the one big score. Round eight was an action filled fight with Martinez and Barker standing toe to toe for much of the last ninety seconds of the frame with Martinez landing four and five punch combinations while the challenger landing a solid left hook and yet another good right.

Martinez had a big round nine as he rocked Barker with a huge right hook that buckled Barker across the ring. Martinez threw and landed some of the twenty some odd punched that were to follow and had Barker in trouble for the first time in the fight.

Martinez ended things with a huge right hook to the side of the head that sent Barker down on his back and he could not beat referee Eddie Cotton’s ten count

Andy Lee got even with Brian Vera by scoring a ten round unanimous decision in a Middleweight bout.

Lee started round one trying to establish the jab. In round two Landed a huge left that sent Vera sprawling to the canvas just before the bell sounded to signal the end of the round. Lee continued to dominate in round three as that frame was highlighted by a monstrous left uppercut that Vera took well. Round four saw the effects of Lee’s work by a cut that was formed around the left eye of Vera. The fight was fought at a fast pace with both guys getting good shots. Despite the cut, Vera came back to have a strong round five as he blasted Lee with a couple of hard right hands.

Lee landed a beautiful check hook that sent Vera head first into the corner post in round six and then buckled Vera with a hard left in round seven. Round was a great action round with Lee continuing to land solid left hands while Vera pounded away with a handful of right hands.

The two continued to slug going down the stretch and it was Vera who continued to land the bigger shots but a visibly exhausted Lee hung and was able to avenge his only career loss

Lee, 163 lbs of Limerick, IRE won by scores of 99-90; 99-90 and 98-91 to raise his mark to 27-1. Vera, 160 lbs of Austin, TX is now 19-6

In a mild upset, Daniel Lugo scored a four round unanimous decision over Kevin Rooney Jr. in a Jr. Middleweight bout.

Scores were 39-37 on all cards for Lugo of Harrisburg, PA and is now 1-1. Rooney of Catskills, NY is now 2-1.

J’Leon Love remained perfect by scoring a six round unanimous decision over Eddie Hunter in a Middleweight bout.

Scores were 60-54; 60-53 and 60-53 for Love of Detroit and is now 9-0. Hunter of Kent, WA is now 5-7-2.

In the first bout of the evening, Troy Artis sprun an upset by dropping Israel Dufus three times in round three to gain the stoppage in that round which was a scheduled four round Middleweight bout.

Dufus controlled the first two round with good boxing skills.

In round three, Artis dropped Dufus with a hard left-right combination. He dropped him a second time from a straight right. Dufus was reeling when he ate several unanswered blows and dropped to his knees and referee Steve Smoger stopped the bout at 2:03.

Artis of Bronx, NY is now 3-2-1 with two knockouts. Dufus of Panama is now 2-1.

Cestus Management responds to Ashley Theophane inking deal with Hatton Promotions!

Based on the recent announcement of British Champion, Ashley Theophane signing a multi year fight deal with Hatton Promotions, Cestus Management regrets to say that Theophane entered into this agreement under a cloud of false and incorrect pretenses.

At present, Theophane is still under a valid management agreement with Cestus and a promotional options agreement with Mick Hennessy of Hennessy Sports which was negotiated by Cestus as part of his terms when he fought for the British title in February 2011. Unfortunately after years of managing Theophane’s career, Ashley abruptly decided that he wants to discontinue his relationship with Cestus alleging breaches of his agreement, none of which have any validity. It is evident by his actions that he allegedly set out to exploit both Cestus and Hennessy’s businesses for his own ulterior gains; Cestus Management signed Theophane in August 2009 and took what was a fledging career and got him a shot at the British title which he subsequently won. Cestus, on behalf of Theophane’s career worked vigorously in Europe and the United States with the best promoters in the business to secure the best fights for him on major TV entities that would have given him a huge worldwide audience.

It is a shame when a fighter decides to go off on an unfounded grudge and takes to social media outlets to discredit and disparage his management team who have worked so diligently for him at all times. Given the events of the last few days, clearly Theophane did not disclose that he has live contracts with another promoter and management and now claims that he has been self-managed; his actions have now put all parties in a very uncompromising position. Cestus Management along with Hennessy Sports will fight Theophane’s attempts to discontinue his existing and valid contracts with as much vigor as they did getting his career to a contender level.

“On Oct 7th The Irish Invade Chicago” – McCreedy & Eklund-WATCH LIVE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT
On October 7th super middleweight “Irish” Joe McCreedy and light welterweight Sean Eklund will invade Burbank, Illinois which is just minutes from Chicago, Illinois as Cynthia Tolaymat’s CFC Promotions presents “Chicago Fight Night III”.

Super Middleweight “Irish” Joe McCreedy (15-5-2 6KO’s) over the summer signed with CFC Promotions in hopes of moving his career in the right direction, that decision proved to be an intelligent one as CFC Promotions CEO Cynthia Tolaymat provided an instant USBO title shot for McCreedy.

McCreedy who hails from Lowell, Massachusetts has a overwhelming fan base back home and wants to follow in the footsteps of some fighters who recently called Chicago their second home, fighters such as USBO welterweight champion Lanardo Tyner, IBO International Middleweight, USBA Middleweight champion Osumanu Adama as well as IBF International light welterweight champion Albert Mensah amongst a few.

McCreedy is trained by Dicky Eklund the fighter who was portrayed by Christian Bale in “The Fighter” a 2010 biographical sports drama film directed by David O. Russell. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, winning the awards for Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale) and Best Supporting Actress (Melissa Leo). McCreedy also spend some time being trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr in Las Vegas prior to returning home to finish his training camp with Eklund.

McCreedy’s is no stranger to bright lights and cameras as he was recently seen on HBO’s Mayweather – Ortiz 24/7, during the infamous scene where Mayweather Jr and Senior verbally assaulted one another “McCreedy was seen sitting on the ring with Roger Mayweather. Hollywood also is calling for a sequel to “The Fighter” which will surely bring all the bright lights once again to the face of McCreedy. One thing for sure is that McCreedy wants to be seen showcasing his skills on TV and this bout if victorious can lead him to bigger opportunities down the road.

Sean Eklund

The other Irish fighter is none other than light welterweight Sean Eklund (9-4 2KO’s) who also hails from Lowell, Massachusetts won nine of his last eleven bouts is looking to extend his winning streak to 4 as he takes on Terry Buterbaugh (6-5-2 3KO’s).

Eklund who is the nephew of Dicky Eklund wants to impress the Chicago crowd and hopes to give the fans a great exciting fight. Eklund’s best performance to date was defeating the then undefeated Eddie Soto in 2010. There is a saying in boxing “Your only as good as your last fight”, if that saying is true then Eklund is sitting pretty high because his last fight he TKO’d Patrick Cape in just 2 rounds.

Eklund knows this is a big stage he is fighting on and hoping to capitalize on the opportunity he has been given.

“We brought in Joe McCreedy and Sean Eklund for the fight fans of Chicago, the city has a very large Irish population who loves to cheer for their fighters” – said Tolaymat. She went on to say “I think the Irish community will embrace both of these fighters and show their support for these young warriors.”

Serving as the Main Event on “Chicago Fight Night III” will be Chicago’s adopted son, middleweight Osumanu Adama (19-2 14KO’s) as he is put through the biggest test in his professional boxing career as he is scheduled to face former IBF light middleweight champion Roman “Made In Hell” Karmazin (40-4-2, 26 KOs), the bout is an IBF proposed eliminator box off.

One half of the co-main event will be former WBA world champion “Vicious” Vivian Harris (29-7-1 19KO’s) taking on former Indiana state champion Jermaine “Hawk” White (17-4 9KO’s) in a 10 round contest. There has been a great buzz surrounding this fight due to the all out action style of fighting both of these welterweights bring.

THERE WILL BE FIREWORKS IN NOVEMBER WHEN JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT STARS ALFREDO “PERRO” ANGULO & JAMES “MANDINGO WARRIOR” KIRKLAND FACE OFF IN CANCUN, MEXICO

LOS ANGELES, September 29 – Known for its dazzling beaches and as a vacation destination for millions, Cancun, Mexico will be turned into a fight town on Saturday, November 5, when Golden Boy Promotions and Periodico QueQui (Pepe Gomez) will bring one of the most anticipated bouts in recent years to the Cancun Center, where junior middleweight sluggers Alfredo “Perro” Angulo and James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland will engage in what is already anticipated to be a 2011 Fight of the Year candidate live on HBO’s Boxing After Dark. Also on tap for this boxing extravaganza is a middleweight clash between two fighters battling for a spot in the top ten, undefeated rising star Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin and the always tough contender Craig McEwan.

“This is a fight that fans have been looking forward to for years and now we are finally going to see Angulo vs. Kirkland, and the word ‘explosive’ won’t do it justice,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “There’s no mystery as to what either fighter wants to do on November 5. James and Alfredo are both going to be looking for the knockout and I can’t wait to see it.”

“This is the kind of fight boxing needs and I respect James Kirkland for stepping up and taking it,” said Angulo. “We’re not going to dance or hug in there on November 5th; we’re going to fight, and I can’t wait.”

“Angulo has been on my radar for a long time and I’m happy that we’re finally going to get a chance to fight each other,” said Kirkland. “He’s a good fighter, I like his style and I know we’re going to make for a great fight.”

“I’m very excited and blessed to have this opportunity,” said Quillin. “I know Craig is a solid fighter with tons of fight in him because we used to train together in the same gym, but he has to prove that he has what it takes to give me my first loss. He has tons of heart, but so do I, and if he wants to make a good fight, then he can meet me right in the middle of the ring on November 5th.”

“I don’t think I can just beat Quillin, I know I’m going to knock him out,” McEwan said.

Angulo vs. Kirkland, a 12 round junior middleweight bout and Quillin vs. McEwan, a 10-round middleweight fight are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Periodico QueQui (Pepe Gomez) and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate. The HBO Boxing After Dark broadcast will air at 10:15pm ET/PT.

While James Kirkland can knock you out with a single blow, Mexicali’s Alfredo “Perro” Angulo (20-1, 17 KO’s) is a punishing puncher who can make you beg for a one punch knockout. A professional since 2005, Angulo became a fan favorite for his aggressive style while he piled up win after win, with his only loss coming via decision to Kermit Cintron in 2009. The winner of five in a row since then, including victories over Harry Joe Yorgey, Joel Julio and Joachim Alcine, Angulo returned from a year long layoff in August with a first round knockout over Joseph Gomez. He will look to make a big statement against the concussive punching Kirkland.

One of the hardest punchers in boxing today, James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland (29-1, 26 KO’s) has been responsible for some of the most devastating knockouts seen in recent years. A longtime junior middleweight contender who owns victories over Eromosele Albert, Ricardo Cortes, Brian Vera and Joel Julio, the 27-year-old southpaw from Austin, Texas returned to the ring in 2011 after two years away, and he has won four of five bouts, with all four victories coming by knockout in two rounds or less.

Undefeated as a professional, Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (25-0, 19 KO’s) has become a much avoided contender in the middleweight division in the past year. That’s not a shock considering his series of crushing knockout wins over Dennis Sharpe, Jesse Brinkley, and Jason LeHoullier in 2011. Now ready to take the next step in his career, the popular 28-year-old will look to take his career to the next level with a win over McEwanin his HBO Boxing After Dark debut.

Also looking to make a big impression on fight fans this November is Scotland native Craig McEwan (19-1, 10 KO’s). Coming off of the first loss of his professional career, which was a thrilling 10 round battle with Andy Lee in March, the 29-year-old southpaw knows that the only way to erase the sour taste of defeat is by replacing it with a big win. In his fight against Peter Quillin, he has the opportunity to take out a top level opponent and get back in the victory circle in front of a worldwide television audience.

On Oct 7th Chicago Gets a Taste Of Hollywood–WATCH FIGHT CARD LIVE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT CARD
It’s not all red carpets and flashing lights for one particular Chicago up-n coming fighter simply known as “Hollywood”, unlike the normal Hollywood star this young man likes to get his hands dirty like the rest of us! However, unlike the rest of us, he likes to use his hands to beat and destroy all competition he faces.

Undefeated super middleweight Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez (4-0 3KO’s) is young, heavy handed and steps in the ring with “Swagger” due to his overwhelming confidence and his aggressive fighting style. One thing that is clear is that Jimenez wants to follow in the footsteps of other Chicago fight club fighters such as his good friends Donovan George and “King” David Estrada; Jimenez wants to fight his way to the top of his division. Jimenez believes the right people surround him and that would help catapult him in the sport known as the sweet science. “I greatly appreciate what everyone has done for me thus far, I could not have been here without Pete George, he has brought me a long way and taught me a lot, I am very thankful for having him in my corner.”-Said Jimenez.

On June 19th 2010 Jimenez fought his first professional boxing bout that sent shockwaves throughout the city of Chicago. Jimenez destroyed his opponent in the very first round winning the contest via TKO. Jimenez stayed very active fighting in 2010 fighting two more times before 2010 came to an end. On March 25th 2011 Jimenez faced a tough rugged fighter in Cameron Allen and once again Jimenez walked away victorious but not by knockout instead he won by a unanimous decision. What many fans witnessed was a slugfest between the two fighters, what many fans did not know was that Jimenez was fighting injured. Not wanting to let his fans or the city of Chicago down, he decided to fight despite the pain that was following him weeks before the fight as he prepared for the bout.

After his victory over Allen, the celebration was cut short as Jimenez was informed by doctors that the pain Jimenez was experiencing before the fight were cause by loose bodies which are basically small bone chips, one of those bone chips were the size of a casino poker chip. Not only bone spurs needed to be shaven down but that poker sized bone chip needed to be removed and that required doctors to make a 2inch incision to remove the bone chip. This was not what Jimenez was hoping for, but knew the time was something his body needed to fully heal.

Jimenez sidelined with the injury was obviously depressed, even though he was not seen fighting, he was seen constantly supporting his friends by attending both amateur and professional boxing cards. Jimenez loved to sit and be a spectator but the more he watched punches being thrown the quicker he was missing the sport.

After the cast was removed from his arm Jimenez decided to have two training camps one being in Medellin, Colombia at the Knock Out Box Gym and the other in “The Windy City” training at Chicago Fight Club. In Colombia, Jimenez was able to work with the likes of Felipe Novoa, Newton Villareal just to name a few. “The best thing about my trip to Colombia was seeing my father”- said the heavy-handed fighter. In Chicago he was back to sparring with the likes of number #4 ranked Donovan “Da Bomb” George, welterweight contender “King” David Estrada, Chicago Iconic ring warrior Angel “El Toro” Hernandez and countless others.

Feeling much better Jimenez wanted to get back in the ring and Cynthia Tolaymat owner of CFC Promotions LLC could not have been happier. “Hollywood brings a fan base unlike any other, his fans come in and chant “Hollywood, Hollywood”, very loud and very exciting –said Tolaymat. “I am pleased to see Jimenez healthy, the fans can expect an exciting bout on October 7th.”

The undercard will feature middleweights Derrick Findley, Ramon Valenzuela Jr, Super Middleweight “Irish” Joe McCreedy, Light welterweights Sean Eklund and Antonio Canas as well as heavyweight Boban Simic who is making his long awaited professional debut.

This week on GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

– Friday, September 30, 2011 8:00pm ET featuring American Mixed Martial Arts Fight League returns to Newtown Athletic Club, Newtown, Pennsylvania. [Free Viewing] “We’ve got some really top notch local Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York metro fighters. Everyone is relatively local so that helps with ticket sales and excitement. We’ve got guys like Chris Wing, who’s a phenomenal fighter out of Philadelphia. He’s fighting Jason Lee. Jason fought on our last two cards. Unfortunately he came up short but he’s a tremendous, exciting fighter. And I don’t think his record shows exactly how good of a fighter he is. And we have some other top guys that I think are not only going to be exciting for the fight but really drive a good crowd in there.” Wing vs. Lee is certainly a worthy main event, and fans will be treated to great fight. “I expect that to be an incredibly exciting match,” McCann said. “Both guys are going to absolutely bring it to the table. And Chris has a huge following in the Philadelphia area. He’s got big support, which is very helpful. I expect there to be a lot Chris Wing fans in the crowd that night. ” Also on hand will be legendary UFC Hall of Famer Dan “The Beast” Severn. “Dan “The Beast” Severn is going to be at the event and that’s pretty exciting for us.,” McCann explained. “Dan will have a table set up at the front, where you can meet and greet and get your picture taken with him. He’s a very nice guy, polite and outgoing, and the fans really enjoy meeting him.”

– Saturday, October 1, 2011 7:00pm ET featuring Blackeye Promotions V – Breast Cancer Beatdown at the WNC AG Center in Fletcher, North Carolina. With the current landscape of Women’s MMA being on shaky ground, Blackeye Promotions is stepping up to the plate to keep the budding sport alive and thriving. In the main event, Strikeforce vet Roxanne Modafferi (14-6) will battle Barb Honchak (4-1) in a 125 lb bout. Modafferi has fought a who’s who of the top females on the MMA circuit but has been out of the public spotlight since her last bout with Strikeforce which was for the title. Now she is ready to kick-start her career back into high gear with the bout against Honchak. Modafferi has shown she is dangerous with submissions and has knockout power. She is a tough draw for anyone in her weight class. For Honchak, this will be her fourth fight in 2011 and the other three have all been victories. Honchak will look to continue her streak against Modafferi. This is a premium cable type of event. You won’t find a better matchup of female gladiators in any other promotion. Watch as these two women show that MMA is not just a boys club anymore. In another high stakes event, Chelsea Colarelli (6-2) fights Patricia Vidonic (3-1) in an exciting 125 lb bout. Colarelli is on a five-fight win streak, all by submission or knockout, and holds another organization’s title belt already. She is the real deal on the ground and a proficient standup striker as well. Vidonic holds a three-fight win streak herself and is also a champion from a different organization. The winner of this contender’s bout might be next in line to face the winner of the Modafferi vs Honchak bout, and for fans of MMA that is a great thing.

– Saturday, October 1, 2011 8:00pm ET featuring SoCal Battle of the Badges 2011Boxing, Pechanga Hotel & Casino, SoCal, California. The men and women of law enforcement, fire protection and other public safety agencies put down their shields and badges, lace up their gloves and enter the ring in support of not only Cops 4 Kids & Communities and other local charitable organizations, but to honor the many fallen heroes and their families. Cops 4 Kids & Communities is a non-profit organization founded by members of law enforcement that assists and encourages children and teens through mentoring, educational, sports, arts programs, field trips, football camps, martial arts, “School of Rock” and more. The organization also has a C4KC Youth Boxing Club. As you can imagine, nonprofits and schools are facing a fundraising crisis right now. This event allows us the opportunity to provide low cost entertainment for the whole family, but also the opportunity to raise money for our youth programs without asking for a direct donation during these economic times and financial uncertainty. The prestigious Pechanga Resort & Casino will once again host this year’s Fifteenth annual Battle of the Badges at their impressive Grand Ballroom boxing venue. This event will take place on Saturday, October 1st with doors opening at 4:00 pm and the first bout starting at 5:00 pm. This charity amateur boxing event promises to be a knockout as the “loaded guns and firepower” inside the ropes meet toe-to-toe all in the name of charity. Twenty-eight policemen, firefighters, Correctional Officers, “ICE” U.S. Immigration officers and more will make this an evening you won’t want to miss.

Flores, Coyne Headline Home State Card—WATCH FIGHT LIVE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT CARD
Missouri natives BJ Flores and Ryan Coyne return to action on October 15 at the O’Reilly Family Events Center on the campus of Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. In the evening’s main event, Willard native BJ ‘El Peligroso’ Flores looks to climb the cruiserweight rankings as he takes on Paul Jennette. Flores defeated highly regarded Nicholas Iannuzzi by TKO on July 23rd in the same arena.

States Flores, “Jennette is a very tough guy who looks to take the fight to the opponent, often being on the offensive. That style is very similar to mine, so on October 15th, something has to give. Its going to be a very exciting fight, but I’m knocking Jennette out. I’m just thrilled to be back in my hometown fighting in front of family and friends. An impressive victory here only builds my case for a shot at the world title. I want be satisfied until I win a world title, and defend it back in my hometown.”

Ryan ‘The Irish Outlaw’ Coyne has yet to taste defeat as he’s built a record of 17-0. Still, ‘The Irish Outlaw’ believe his best shot at a world title may come at Light Heavyweight, and this fight will take place at 185 pounds. James Crawford has fought Danny Green, Jean Pascal, Jeff Lacy, Adrian Diaconu, and others in a career that has seen him win 40 times. No doubt the Light Heavyweight division beter be on notice as ‘The Irish Outlaw’ will be making a title run.

Both Coyne and Flores look to be active in 2012 as they each try and win a world title. Other bouts on this action packed card include:

Highly regarded young phenom (113-5 as an amateur) Orlando Utsey vs TBA

Will Grover vs Justin Ridgway

Jesse Cook (Debut) vs DeAngelo Clardy

AJ Van Camp vs Ryan Pederson

Rodriguez – Wolak II set for Cotto – Margarito II undercard

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, one of the candidates for Fight of They Year will have it’s sequal on the December 3rd Miguel Cotto – Antonio Margarito undercard as Jr. Middleweight Delvin Rodriguez and Pawel Wolak will attempt to pick up where they left off their July 15th slugfest that ended in a draw.

The card will take place at Madison Square Garden.

“The rematch is a little sooner than I wanted as I wanted a title to be in place first, but the fans deserve this and this is the right stage,” Wolak told ESPN.com on Wednesday night after agreeing to the fight. “You know it will be another classic.”

“I want the fight. It’s a great fight and a great opportunity,” Rodriguez said. “It is definitely a tough fight, but I enjoyed our first fight and I know I have to be 150 percent in shape, the best I can be. He brought out the best in me. He’s a guy you have to be prepared for to be able to keep up. I see the fight going even better for myself this time.”

“It’s turning out to be, on paper, the perfect night,” Top Rank president Todd duBoef said. “What a way to come back to the Garden after not having a big fight there for a while. There is a slow process that occurs when making matches but for this one, everything ended falling into place perfectly.”

Wednesday, Top Rank’s Carl Moretti worked it out with Dunkin and DeGuardia while Ramos-Rigondeaux is headed for a purse bid.

“Adding this fight to the card, they’re going to need a renovation from the renovation with the place being so crazy,” Moretti said, referring to the ongoing overhaul at Madison Square Garden. “Delvin brings a crowd, the Polish fans will be there to support Wolak and you have a big main event, it is going to be crazy. It’s going to be a special night at the Garden.”

“People want the fight. This fight needs no promotion,” Rodriguez said. “Fighting under Cotto-Margarito, I know the crowd will be jumping. People have been waiting for this fight since right after the first fight. Everyone keeps asking, ‘When is the rematch?’ It’s something people keep telling me about, something boxing needs.”

Cunningham: “The weapons are oiled, I´m ready to go to war”

IBF Cruiserweight Champion Steve Cunningham (24-2, 12 KOs) is “ready to go to war on Saturday night” when he clashes with Yoan Pablo Hernandez (24-1, 13 KOs) in Neubrandenburg, Germany. The 35-year-old American voiced his confidence today during the final press conference in a redesigned church. “I have followed his career for a long time. Hernandez is one of the top cruiserweights and a very strong opponent. But I have defeated all reigning cruiserweights champions and I will clinch another victory on Saturday night. The weapons are oiled and I am ready to go to war.”

Hernandez, who became the WBA Interim Cruiserweight Champion in February when he stopped Steve Herelius, is looking forward to Saturday night. “Cunningham is good, I know what he did to my training partner and stablemate Marco Huck. Saturday will be time for revenge. I have a lot of respect for him but I am ready to become world champion.”

Also on Saturday night, former IBF Middleweight Champion Sebastian Sylvester (34-4-1, 16 KOs) makes his comeback after losing his title to Daniel Geale. He will face Grzegorz Proksa (25-0, 18 KOs) for the vacant European Middleweight Title. “I am not impressed by Sylvester,” Proksa said. “He has shown no improvement in his last fights. I don´t think he will have any surprises for me. I will remain unbeaten and I will win the title on Saturday.” Sylvester was unimpressed. “He talks like he is the big favourite and I don´t have a chance at all. That´s fine for me. He can say what he wants. All I will do is show up on Saturday night, win all 12 rounds and then I´m done with him.”

In the third title fight of the night, Karo Murat defends his IBF Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Title against Gabriel Campillo.

3 Steps to Building up Endurance
Step 1

Train at home. Endurance is all about pushing the physical limits of your body, so it’s unwise to only exercise at assigned times and leave your body to rot all other times. At home, you can use an exercise ball to help strengthen your abdominal region and power up your core, while using a jump rope can help you master breathing and long-term energy drains. Endurance is about mastery of repetitive motions, and the better you can maintain your energy level for long periods of time, the better you’ll do in the boxing ring or on the track.

Step 2
Mix things up. If you spend all of your time long distance running to build up your endurance, you’re missing out on other areas of need. You have to balance time on the treadmill with time lifting weights, sparring with others, etc. People who tend to stick to very exacting routines often have trouble with this approach, but if you can manage to add some variety into your workouts, it is going to pay off. After all, you can’t train your whole body by only focusing on a few specific areas, so what you work out and how often are both things you need to take into account.

Step 3
Rest up. When training, some athletes push themselves so hard that they don’t allow their bodies time to recuperate. A drained body isn’t going to give you much in the way of success, however, so try to avoid running yourself in the ground. For instance, if you’re really beat one day, give yourself the day off. It may seem like the end of the world at the time, but the boxing ring, the treadmill, and the entire gym will be there the next day. Once rested, you’ll be better able to focus on the training you need to succeed in the ring and beyond.
