NEW YORK (October 24, 2022) -Split-T Management fighters David Navarro and Joseph Hicks Jr. scored second round stoppage victories on Friday night at Ballys Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Their fights were part of the non-televised undercard of a SHOBOX: The New Generation card

Navarro of Los Angeles stopped Luis Domingo Hernandez in round two of their six-round super featherweight bout.

The 22 year-old Navarro hurt Hernandez in the second frame after a hard flurry of punches. Navarro was able to finish the fight at 1:02 to raise his record to 5-1 with three knockouts. Hernandez falls to 14-7-1.

Hicks took out Luis Solis also in round two of their six-round middleweight bout.

Hicks of Grand Rapids, Michigan landed a hard combination that sent Solis to the deck, and the fight was stopped at 2:52 of round three. Hicks kept his perfect mark intact as he is now 3-0 with three knockouts.

Hicks says his brief encounter with Solis was a learning experience. “I learned to try to get warmer in the dressing room before I come out. I didn’t feel warm in the first round, but besides that I’m ready for whatever comes next.”

Hicks was a stellar amateur where he was elected Captain of Team USA Boxing, National Golden Gloves Champion 2019. Three-time Eastern Elite Qualifier Champion (2017, 2018, 2019) & a five-time Michigan Golden Gloves Champion (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019).

Solis is 25-15-4.

Mauricio Lara stopped Jose Sanmartin in round three of their scheduled 10-round featherweight bout in Mexico City.

In round three, Lara dropped Sanmartin with a left to the body. Moments later, it was a right hand that sent Sanmartin down again, and the fight was stopped at 1:36.

Lara, 127.4 lbs of Mexico City is 25-2-1 with 18 knockouts. Sanmartin, 126.6 lbs of Barranquilla, COL is 33-6-1.

Angel Fierro stopped Jeremy Cuevas in round seven of a scheduled 10-round lightweight fight.

It was an action fight and in round two, Cuevas started to swell under his right eye.

In round seven, Fierro began to beatdown Cuevas and he battered Cuevas with about 20 unanswered shots in the middle of the ring, and the fight was stopped at 53 seconds.

Fierro, 135 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 20-1-2 with 16 knockouts. Cuevas, 137.6 lbs of Philadelphia is 14-2.

Reshat Mati remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Leonel Rodriguez in a super lightweight fight.

In round two, Rodriguez was cut on his forehead from an accidental headbutt.

Mati, 139.2 lbs of Staten Island, NY won by scores of 97-93 on all cards and is now 13-0. Rodriguez, 142 lbs of Aguascalientes, MEX is 11-3-1.

Alberto Mora remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Diego Andrade in a super featherweight1 bout.

In round two, Andrade was bleeding from the nose.

In round eight, Mora landed a left to the body that was followed by a small right hand that sent Andrade to a knee.

Mora, 130.8 lbs of Mexico City won by score of 80-71, 79-72 and 78-73 and is now 4-0. Andrade, 131.8 lbs of Durango. MEX is 14-8-2.

Now based in Minneapolis, Morrell (7-0, 6 KOs) has shown off the prodigious talents that made him a standout in Cuba’s iconic amateur scene since arriving stateside in 2019. The 24-year-old captured an interim title by dominating the then-unbeaten Lennox Allen in August 2020 in just his third pro fight. Morell, who trains in Texas with renowned coach Ronnie Shields, has thrilled the crowd at The Armory in his adopted hometown with sensational knockouts in each of his last three fights. His most recent outing saw him deliver an electric SHOWTIME debut in stopping Kalvin Henderson in June.

The 30-year-old Yerbossynuly (16-0, 11 KOs) earned a shot at Morrell after delivering a statement knockout of Lennox Allen in the 10^th-round of their September 2021 showdown. A native of Zharkent, Kazakhstan who now fights out of Las Vegas, Yerbossynuly first turned pro in 2015 with knockouts in seven of his first eight outings, including two stateside triumphs. He returns to fight in the U.S. for the third time on November 5, having won his last two fights by knockout, including a stoppage of the previously unbeaten Issah Samir in December 2020.

“I’ve had a great training camp with my amazing team that inspires me to push myself every day,” said Yerbossynuly. “We are descendants of Genghis Khan, and you will see the power of the Nomads on November 5. All of our hard work and sacrifice will pay off when I defeat David Morrell Jr. and bring the world title back to Kazakhstan.”

The 25-year-old Gómez (6-0, 5 KOs) made a big statement in his U.S. debut on Christmas Day 2021, blasting out the typically durable Clay Collard in the first round of their showdown. Born in Havana, Cuba and now fighting out of Las Vegas, the southpaw showed power in both hands and relentless finishing skills, immediately making him a rising contender in the talent-laden super welterweight division. He most recently stepped up his competition again, cruising to a shutout unanimous decision against hard-hitting veteran Jorge Cota in May on SHOWTIME.

“I’m excited to be fighting back  on SHOWTIME,” said Gomez. “Jeison Rosario is a former world champion who has been in the ring with some great champions, and I’m expecting a very tough fight. My goal is to throw a lot of hard punches with accuracy and bring some excitement for those watching. Rosario (23-3-1, 17 KOs) will look to move himself into title contention at middleweight after scoring knockouts in three straight fights dating back to November 2021. The 27-year-old’s current streak comes after a pair of defeats versus undisputed 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo and top contender Erickson Lubin. Born in the Dominican Republic and fighting out of Miami, Rosario captured the WBA and IBF 154-pound belts by stopping Julian Williams in one of 2020’s biggest upsets, before losing the titles against Charlo.

“I’m super motivated for this fight,” said Rosario. “I’ve trained hard and I’m ready for war. Gomez is a good fighter with a lot of talent, but I’ve beaten talented fighters before. I’m not worried about what he brings to the ring because I’ve already been in there and shown I can go toe-to-toe with all the lions.”

The 26-year-old Czerkaszyn (20-0, 13 KOs) made a successful stateside debut in August, stopping Gilbert Venegas Jr. in the fourth-round of a matchup that streamed live on the SHOWTIME SPORTS^® YouTube channel. Originally from Ukraine and a citizen of Warsaw, Poland, Czerkaszyn turned pro in 2015 and owns three 10-round unanimous decisions on his record, hardly losing a round throughout the contests.

“I’ve been training since my last fight and I’ve stayed in shape so that I was ready to take advantage of an opportunity like this,” said Czerkaszyn. “I’m facing a good opponent, who’s very fast. I’ve seen him train before in Chicago and watched his fights, so I know what to expect. I’m hungry and I’m ready to show off my boxing skills on November 5.”

Gallimore (22-5-1, 17 KOs) has made a name for himself challenging the best fighters at 154 pounds and using his power and skill to present stiff competition. The 34-year-old owns a stoppage victory over former unified champion Jeison Rosario, and has also faced former unified champion Julian Williams, former champion Patrick Teixeira, and top contenders Sebastian Fundora and Erickson Lubin. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Gallimore has fought out of Chicago as a pro and most recently bested the previously unbeaten Leon Lawson III at The Armory in June 2021.

Sean Brewer stopped Christian Renteria in the opening round of their six-round super featherweight bout at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California.

In round one, Brewer dropped Renteria with a right to the body. Seconds later, it was a right to the lower ribcage that sent Renteria down again and the fight was stopped at 2:48.

Brewer, 124.4 lbs of Henderson, NV is 4-0 with three knockouts. Renteria, 127.6 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 9-14.

Leonardo Sanchez stopped Francisco Duque in the third round of their four round lightweight bout.

In round one, Sanchez dropped Duque when he landed a couple of straight lefts that was followed up by a flurry.

In round three, Sanchez scored a second knockdown. Sanchez dropped Sanchez for a third time with a left hand, and the fight was over at 1:20.

Sanchez, 132.8 lbs of Cathedral City, CA is 2-0 with one knockout. Duque, 135 lbs of Baytown, TX was making his pro debut.

Ionnas Manoulidis won a four-round unanimous decision over Mario Aguirre in a welterweight bout.

GLENDALE, ARIZ. – October 21, 2022 – A longtime trainer, a new trainer and family dynamics played a big role in helping Anderson “The Spider” Silva wrapup training camp on a positive note in advance of the UFC legend’s mega fight against international superstar and undefeated boxer Jake “The Problem Child” Paul October 29 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Ariz., in an event co-produced by Most Valuable Promotions and SHOWTIME PPV (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).

To understand Silva the polished boxer, one must first understand the close-knit, experienced team that’s surrounded him throughout this training camp near his home in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., an exclusive suburb 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles, as they prepare for Paul. The YouTube personality is 5-0 and coming off a spectacular KO against another former UFC champion Tyron Woodley. 

Silva’s team is led by longtime head coach Luiz Carlos Dorea, who has been with Silva through 19 years of training camps. Before his split-decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the summer of 2021, Silva enlisted the services of veteran boxing coach Nico Robledo. Robledo was sidelined after a serious bout with Covid-19 that left him in a coma for three months and in the hospital for more than five months last December to the end of April.

Silva has been joined in camp by Eliezer Silva, who is also fighting October 29, Brazilian boxer Hebert Conceição, Robledo’s son Nico III, and even Silva’s son Kalyl.

ANDERSON SILVA

On the differences in training in mixed martial arts as opposed to training in boxing:

“It’s different because you have seven different disciplines in MMA but for boxing, I’m just training for boxing. And I need to train more with my footwork, the position of my hands. But I’ve been training for boxing for many, many years so it’s something I’m comfortable doing. Every single fight you have different things you train for. Every fight is different. For this fight, I’m training to fight a boxer.”

On his motivation:

“I don’t need the money anymore. People think the money is important, but it’s not. Of course, I’m going to make money from this fight because It’s my job. Don’t do something just for the money. Work because you have a passion. That’s what I’ve done and why I’ve been successful all my life.”

On being the betting favorite:

“There’s a lot of people who are saying Jake is no good, he’s not as good a striker. But to me the fight is a fight and I’m training hard to win this fight. I’m not looking at this as an easy fight for me. Every single fight is dangerous once you step through the ropes.”

If a loss will affect his legacy:

“I’m not going to lose. Nothing will affect my legacy. I’ve worked hard for many years to do something like this for my fans. This is one more fight – one more challenge for myself, but this won’t affect my legacy and career.”

On What the difference will be in this fight:

“The most important thing going into this fight is my experience. My experience is something that Jake doesn’t have. I love this challenge, that’s the secret to me and I go into this fight to prove my respect to the boxing community.”

On Silva’s motivation:

“Anderson’s motivation is above normal for this fight. Being able to train at home in Los Angeles with those who are close to him is even better and motivates him even more. Each week he got better and better. I’m very happy because Anderson is very motivated for this camp. It’s a great honor to work with Anderson. I’ve been with him for over 19 years, and I still see him as super motivated and ready to take on any challenge. He’s very motivated.”

On Silva training for boxing:

“The training is much calmer because boxing is his realm and his comfort level. I’m a boxing coach and Anderson learns very fast, so I feel very confident in his boxing skills. Anderson is an athlete where I have to tell him to stop in training because he always wants more and more and more, and that motivation is inspiring and motivates the whole team.”

On not looking past Jake Paul:

“We always respect the adversary, no matter who it is. That’s why Anderson is training extra hard because Anderson is very disciplined. The training is always the same to confront any great athlete. We can’t underestimate anyone.

“I’m so fortunate to my family for not deciding to pull the plug. The reason they waited an extra week was because my children lost their mother on the same day also to Covid. I got out of the hospital on April 23, and a week later I was back and training my son for US Nationals.”

“MMA is a transition to boxing, for sure. He’s a great athlete and has the heart of a lion – he’s truly a warrior. It hasn’t been easy, but at the same time it hasn’t been hard. He’s 47, but he trains like he’s 27. He gives 100 percent all the time. He’s always positive and has a smile on his face. He’s willing to learn and that makes training camps so much easier.

“It was actually funny because when we first started, he was trying to do some kicks. Overall, he’s caught up really well, and he knows he can’t take someone down but has to rely on his punches and his boxing skills.”

Sena Agbeko won a 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Isaiah Steen in a super middleweight bout at Ballys Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Agbeko landed 75 of 308 punches. Steen was 73 of 365.

Agbeko, 167.2 lbs of Accra, GHA won by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 and is now 27-2. Steen, 166.2 lbs of Cleveland, OH is 16-1.

Taylor Decisions Harrington

Marquis Taylor won an eight-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Marlon Harrington in a super welterweight fight.

‘The Body Snatcher’ (28-3, 19 KOs) fell short in his challenge for Tyson Fury’s WBC Heavyweight World Title at Wembley Stadium in April, succumbing to a sixth-round stoppage defeat in front of over 90,000 fans. 

Brixton’s big-hitting former Interim WBC Heavyweight World Champion, 35, is set to fight at the OVO Arena, Wembley for the first time in his career as he looks to kickstart his journey towards a second shot at world honours.

On the challenge of facing Anderson Silva: 

“It’s always good to have a big challenge because it pushes you to be perfect. There’s no room for lack of motivation or down time or complaining or anything like that. I know that this is a massive opportunity to catapult myself into the history books. To be a legend, you have to beat a legend and that’s what I have the opportunity to do here.”

On having respect for his opponent:

“It’s interesting having respect for my opponent where all the other ones we were talking trash to each other. But it’s super cool. He was my idol growing up and it’s a good change of pace. I have nothing but love for him, but I’m going to knock him out respectfully.”

On the improvements he’s made in camp:

“It’s about getting those 10,000 reps in to become a master. And so the technique is continuing to improve. Bringing my hips and my legs into the punches more and more. Even just growing my stamina to throw more punches. It’s been a constant evolution and my power has increased dramatically, which is scary for Anderson.

“So many things are clicking with it being my third year of being a professional boxer. I’ve improved drastically and exponentially. People are going to see a different fighter in the ring. I think people are going to be shocked. It’s been amazing and we’ve really caught a stride and a rhythm with the training camp this year.”

On his diet in camp:

“Breakfast is just an omelet with just one piece of toast. Sometimes I’ll skip lunch. I’m not really a big lunch person. It makes me tired and that makes me drop in weight. I’ll usually have a snack and some fruit and the snack is a high in fiber protein bar. Dinner is chicken or steak with quinoa, or quinoa with fish. Not a lot of carbs. So it’s been a really tough diet coming down to 187 but we’re wanting to do it the right way. Where I can wake up the morning of the weigh-in and have pasta if I want to. I could get to 175 next week if I wanted to do an MMA style weight-cut. But we cut the weight ahead of time so I never have to sit in the sauna and steam room and I’ll actually be the same weight.”

On his daily routine in training camp:

“Lots of sleep. I usually wake up around 1 p.m. We train a lot at night. We spar at night. We try to mimic fight night. Waking up and doing some kind of workout at night if I’m not sparring at night. That could be mitts, shadow boxing and then after that we do abs and we’ll go for a jog or weight training. Then it’s recovery and I have a stretch therapist. Then I go into a red-light bed. Then I come home, drink protein and then I go into the ice bath, then hot tub and back to ice bath. That usually recharges me right away.”

On sparring former world champion Chad Dawson in training camp:

“Chad Dawson raises my level of competition significantly. He pushes me to the next level and he makes me have to fight at my best. That’s what’s needed. If I can be in there with Chad Dawson, then I can beat Anderson Silva. I’m super excited for October 29 to go out there and show my speed.”

On his favorite part of training:

“I like the outdoor runs and jogs where my body just feels so good. I get into a rhythm. The music is playing, the sun is beating down and it feels like I’m in a boxing movie. The jogs are my favorite part for sure.”

On the daily routine in training camp:

“We schedule everything around the fight. On fight night, Jake probably won’t get into the ring until about 9:45, 10 p.m. We try to do everything on his fight night routine. We want him awake. We want him alert at night time. I don’t feel like there’s any real value in getting him up early and running at the crack of dawn. He’s a night owl. Plus, as long as we get the work done every single day, I just feel like the time of when you get the work done doesn’t matter. We want to do everything like a fight simulation.”

On the challenge of facing Anderson Silva:

“Anderson is a guy we’ve had our eye on for a long time. Anderson is a legend. He’s one of the greatest strikers of all time in any combat sport. We’ve taken it very seriously. He’s a very, very difficult challenge. It’s a massive step-up for Jake. It’s a very dangerous fight.

“The way that we attack Silva is obviously different to how we were preparing to attack Rahman. Rahman had more boxing experience. But not more fighting experience, not even close. So the way that we strategized and the way that we attack Anderson on fight night is going to be way different than it would have been for Rahman.”

On sparring in training camp:

“We’ve had Richard vanSiclen, who is 13-0. We’ve had Chad Dawson, who’s a former world champion. We’ve had Steve Cunningham and a lot of good guys in camp boxing with Jake who are very good southpaws. Southpaws who have been around for a long time just to give Jake that look over and over again and make sure he’s comfortable when he gets in the ring.

On the addition of co-trainer Danny Smith:

“We’ve added somebody very new to the team, Danny Smith. He was my trainer when I was boxing professionally. He’s one of the best trainers that I know. He’s one of my favorite people. Smart, intelligent guy who has been around boxing a long time. He’s somebody who taught me a lot about the game. He’s been very good for the strength and conditioning of Jake. He’s made Jake a better athlete as far as getting him stronger and faster. He’s excellent on the mitts. He’s been a great addition to the team.”

On the improvements Paul has made in training camp:

“Jake’s improvement since I first started working with him has just been incredible. The kid is just a nonstop worker. He’s a tireless worker. He’s very determined. He’s very goal-oriented. He’s very big on manifestation. Speaking what he wants into existence and actually going out and putting in the work to do it every single day.

“I would compare him when he fought AnEsonGib to a kid who just started learning how to ride a bike with training wheels on. After the Nate Robinson fight, he still had them on. After the Ben Askren fight, he was just slowly going along. Now he’s doing pretty good. He’s really improved a lot. He’s raised his boxing IQ. He’s really understanding the sport of boxing and taking it really seriously. It’s been almost three years of film study and reviewing every single sparring session that he does and talking about what he does well and what he needs to improve on and where he can get better. Over the last year, he’s sparred an extra 250 rounds with at least 50 different sparring partners. Good professionals. All of that just makes him a lot better.

“It’s an unbelievable amount of progress that he’s had over the last 12 to 18 months. It’s really impossible for anybody really to know how good Jake is and how he’s doing right now because he’s gotten so much better since last year that it’s impossible to handicap that. It’s impossible for any experts to know except those that are in camp with him. It’s been fun to watch.”

On the final days of training camp and fight week:

“We sparred twice the week before fight week. He’s in such good shape right now. We’re not doing as many rounds but we’re keeping him sharp. Keeping him firing on all the right levels. The main thing now is just making weight. 187 pounds. He’s already close. We’ve got a routine where days that he’s not sparring, we’re working on things in the gym. We’re making a conscious effort to get the weight down. Incline walk, sprints. We’ve been doing distance runs for 12 weeks. He’s in phenomenal shape right now. He’s prepared to go the eight rounds no problem but we’re also very realistic that this fight might not go eight rounds.

“We travel to Phoenix on Sunday. We’ll shake out on Monday. We’ll spar one final time on Tuesday. He likes to spar the week of the fight. And then after that, we have an open workout Wednesday, a final press conference on Thursday and a weigh-in on Friday. He’ll be ready to go.”

NEW YORK (October 21, 2022) -Tonight, Split-T Management fighters David Navarro and Joseph Hicks will see action at Ballys Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Their fights will be part of the non-televised undercard of a SHOBOX: The New Generation card (9:30 pm ET/PT).

Navarro of Los Angeles will take on Luis Domingo Hernandez in a six-round super featherweight bout.

The 22 year-old Navarro has a record of 4-1 with two knockouts. A two-year professional, Navarro is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Gavin Guaman on March 11th in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Hernandez of the Dominican Republic is 14-6-1 with nine knockouts. The 28 year-old Hernandez is a nine-year pro, who will be making his United States debut, and he is coming off a defeat to Juan Carlos Camacho on February 26th in The Dominican Republic.

Navarro weighed 127.6 lbs. Hernandez was 126.8 lbs.

Hicks will take on Luis Solis in a six-round middleweight bout.

Hicks of Grand Rapids, Michigan is 3-0 with three knockouts. The 28 year-old Hicks is still in his rookie year as a pro and he is coming off a first-round stoppage over Jonathan Batista on August 10th in Detroit.

Hicks was a stellar amateur where he was elected Captain of Team USA Boxing, National Golden Gloves Champion 2019. Three-time Eastern Elite Qualifier Champion (2017, 2018, 2019) & a five-time Michigan Golden Gloves Champion (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019).

Solis of Yucatan, Mexico is a veteran as he is 25-14-4 with 21 knockouts. At 30 years-old, Solis is a 12 year-pro. He has wins over Ricardo May (1-0), Angel Cano (2-0), Cristian Aguilar Galaz (4-0), Mario Cauich (1-0), Luis Antonio Fitch (19-3), former world champion Cristobal Cruz, Nery Saguilan (38-9-1), Roberto Carlos Dominguez (1-0). Solis is coming off a defeat to Lorenzo Simpson on November 6, 2021 in Baltimore.

Hicks weighed 160 lbs. Solis was 159.6

Floyd Schofield remained undefeated with a first round annihilation of Daniel Rosas in a scheduled eight-round lightweight bout at The Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, California.

Schofield dominated and landed a left hook that put Rosas down and out at 1:37.

Schofield, 134.8 lbs of Austin, TX is 12-0 with 10 knockouts. Rosas, 132 lbs of Mexico City is 22-6-1.

“I manifested this knockout, and I just feel so good right now,” said Schofield. “This is the fight game, and I hope he is ok. When Oscar came into my dressing room, I almost had a heart attack – I was like dang – this is real. I’m happy and I’m proud of myself and my team. It’s a dream come true. I honestly feel like crying, but I am trying not to. I want everyone in my division!”

Anabel Ortiz Decisions Maria Santizo

Former world champion Anabel Ortiz won an eight-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Maria Santizo in a light flyweight bout.

Ortiz, 108 lbs of Mexico City won by scores of 79-73, 78-4 and 77-75 and is now 33-5. Santizo, 106.6 lbs of Guatemala City, GUA is now 10-2.

“The fight proved to be a hard one, but it was experience that helped me secure the win,” said Ortiz. “There were points in the fight where she would make me mad when she would grab me by the back of my head and I just wanted to unleash on her, but I knew I had to conserve my energy. Right now, I am going to eat a hamburger and drink a coca-cola, and then discuss with Roberto Diaz what my next steps are.”

Joshua Garcia remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Christian Lorenzo in a super featherweight bout.

Garcia, 130 lbs of Moreno Valley, CA won by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice and is now 6-0. Lorenzo, 128 lbs of Los Angeles is 3-4.

Jorge Estrada remained undefeated with a four-round majority decision over Sergio Gonzalez in a middleweight bout.

Estrada, 149.8 lbs of Mexicali, MEX won by scores of 40-36 twice and 38-38, and is now 4-0. Gonzalez, 155 lbs of Mexico is 6-12-1.

Eric Tudor remained undefeated with a second round stoppage over Ramon Marquez in a super welterweight bout.

In round two, Tudor dropped Marquez with a left to the body. Seconds later, it was another hard body shot that put Marquez down again. Marquez nose was starting to bleed, and the fight was stopped after hard flurry at 2:41.

Tudor, 153.6 lbs of Fort Lauderdale, FL is 6-0 with five knockouts. Marquez, 145.4 lbs of Tucson, AZ is 5-3.

Mauricio Lara has vowed to take his frustrations out on Jose Sanmartin and send a warning to the World Featherweight champions when they clash at the Plaza de Toros Arroyo in Mexico City on Saturday night, live worldwide on DAZN.
 
Lara (24-2-1 17 KOs) had been set to challenge WBA ruler Leigh Wood in Nottingham, England in September but the bout was nixed after the champion suffered a bicep injury in training. The Mexican now looks to keep himself in the picture to face one of the 125lb belt holders at the start of 2023 by putting on a dominant display against Sanmartin (33-5-1 21 KOs).
 
‘Bronco’ announced his intentions at the top level with his brutal stoppage win over Josh Warrington in London in February 2021, but a hotly anticipated rematch in the Leeds’ man’s backyard seven months later ended in disappointment as a cut over Lara’s left eye ended the bout after two rounds.
 
The 24 year old pummeled Emilio Sanchez inside three rounds in March in San Diego to return to action with a bang, and Lara is excited to fight on home turf for the first time in almost two years as he aims to show the champions that there is nowhere to hide from him.
 
“I want to be a World champion,” said Lara. “I will do it. I will face any champion that gives me the opportunity.
 
“We know that Jose is a good fighter. He’s strong. He’s coming off a seven-fight win streak. Well, he had a win streak because unfortunately he has a fight against me. Everyone knows the kind of status I have now. I’m a train without brakes and no one will stop me. I feel very prepared both mentally and physically.
 
“You will see a different Bronco Lara. You will still see his bravery. You will still see his power. I will work little by little in this fight, but I don’t think it goes past the sixth round.
 
“It fills me with a lot of emotion to fight here. Also, there are a lot of mixed feeling in my return to my city as well. I plan to deliver a great show in Mexico City, a place that has needed a show like this for quite some time.
 
“It means a lot to me to be able to broadcast the sport of boxing to a lot of people. That motivates me. It excites me to know that people follow me, too. I’m just trying to contribute my grain of sand for the next generation so that they can have better opportunities than I did.
 
“I had mixed feelings with the Wood fight being cancelled. I was sad, of course. But there are still a lot of things to do. I spoke with my representative, Alex, and he said that good things are coming. I believe that Wood is honest and that he was hurt. I hope we meet in the future.
 
“Now we know that there are two Englishman who have run away from a Mexican. We’ll have to meet at some point. When that happens, I will destroy him. It will be the worst decision he’ll ever have made.
 
“Those fights with Warrington changed my life a lot. It positioned me as one of the top prospects in Mexico City and in all of Mexico. I’m very happy that I took advantage of all the opportunities that were given to me. And, in terms of boxing skills, ‘Bronco’ Lara grew a lot.
 
“After the last fight with Josh, I was very frustrated. As I’ve mentioned, it’s a topic that’s become very personal for me. And we know that if he fights against me again, he will have to retire from boxing. As I’ve promised to do, so it will be. Believe me; it’s something that’s very personal.”

NEW YORK (Oct 20, 2022) — Rising featherweight contender Robeisy “El Tren” Ramirez will fight Argentina’s Jose Matias Romero in a 10-round showdown Saturday, Oct. 29 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Romero replaces former world champion Jessie Magdaleno, who was forced to withdraw from the bout with a hand injury.

Ramirez-Matias will serve as the co-feature to the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Jamaine Ortiz lightweight main event, streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

“The opponent does not matter. I will put on a show October 29 in New York City,” Ramirez said. “I have the utmost respect for Romero, who took the fight on short notice. But once we get in that ring, I am coming full steam ahead at him for the win. ‘El Tren’ will not be derailed.”

Ramirez (10-1, 6 KOs), a two-time Olympic gold medalist from Cuba, is coming off a sensational one-punch knockout over Abraham Nova and is closing in on a world title opportunity. Romero (26-2, 9 KOs) has won two fights since back-to-back decision defeats to top lightweights Michel Rivera and Isaac Cruz. QUINCY, Mass. (October 20, 2022) – There are legitimate reports that the Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 23) main event has bad blood brewing between the camps, largely because  Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi resents how one of Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste‘s coaches harassed him after he was forced to pull out of their originally schedule fight last August due to illness.

The two fighters were originally slated to fight for the vacant Massachusetts Middleweight Championship, but Andreozzi was too ill to fight, but their match will now headline “Jimmy Farrell Fight Night”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Granite Chin’s Pro-Am card will honor the late Farrell, the highly respected trainer from Quincy (MA), who recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. A share of the proceeds will be donated to Old Colony Hospice.

Andreozzi (3-2, 1 KO) has been training for this fight since May. He’s so serious that he quit his job in order to have additional time to train. “Moving the fight date didn’t disrupt my training,” Andreozzi explained. “My medical issue disrupted our fight. I was throwing up before I got there (venue). I have a delicate stomach and that resulted in an infection in my lower stomach, causing a volatile scenario. . I have a form of colitis and have dealt with it my whole life. I took more medication but kept throwing up. I took 4 different medications. The combination of cutting weights – only 3-4 pounds of water the day of the fight – and taking antibiotics gave me stomach poisoning. The doctor said it was a ‘perfect storm.’ I learned my lesson and that won’t happen again.

“I was thrown a curveball, but I’m used to that. His coach said some horrible stuff to me while I was still puking-up blood in the parking lot. There’s bad energy here. That gave me motivation to train 2 or 3 times a day. I started boxing two years ago on the B side. No amateur background and now I’m fighting for the state title. I want to let him (Baptiste’s coach) know that I’m not scared and shouldn’t have been talked about like that.”

Baptiste (4-2, 2 KOs), of Woburn (MA), has been training 8 weeks for this fight and he’s eager to go. He never questioned Andreozzi for pulling out of their originally scheduled fight.

“I’m ready to go,” Baptiste remarked. “I’ve trained longer and gotten stronger to prove I’m better than him. We were set to fight, but right before it, he wasn’t well. He was throwing up. I’ve never had anything like that happen in the pros. It did happen before in the amateurs. That was my first experience as a pro. I took it as a learning experience. I hope he’s well and there’s no animosity (on his end). I’m sure he’s trained hard for this fight like I have. I need to go into the ring and prove I’m better than him.”

“I am excited that this fight is finally happening in November,” Granite Chin Promotions president Chris Traietti noted. “What happened to Anthony was unfortunate. When I saw him outside the venue, I knew there was no way he was fighting. He was trying to wait it out to see if his stomach pain passed, but I told him he would have to report to the ringside doctor and get cleared before I would consider letting the fight happen. I remember breaking the news to Julien and I had an awful pit in my stomach. I sincerely just felt horrible for both guys for different reasons. But that is in the past, Thanksgiving Eve the fans in Bridgewater are in for a great night of boxing. The main event won’t be short of action and there is going to be a new Massachusetts Middleweight Champion crowned.”

In the 4-round co-feature, Atlanta light heavyweight James “Savage” Hagler, Jr. (3-1, 1 KO), the grandson of the late, great Marvelous Marvin Hagler, takes on entertaining New York light heavyweight Scott “Bombz” Lampert (3-6, 2 KOs).

Fighting on the pro undercard in 4-round bouts is Brockton heavyweight Kirk Wilmont (1-0, 1 KOs) vs. Aquilla Prote (0-1), and Brockton pro-debuting junior welterweight Stephen Davis meets an opponent to be determined.
