THE TALKING IS now over and Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker are fast closing in on a huge heavyweight collision for the WBO Interim world championship at the AO Arena, Manchester on Saturday night, live on BT Sport Box Office.

This afternoon, the leading two heavyweights with the WBO and their respective teams, faced the media at the towering Hilton Hotel and below is a selection of key quotes from the event.

George Warren (CEO, Queensberry)
“I think we are all just happy to get this fight on. Credit to both guys, it is a fight Steve Bunce summed up pretty accurately in the Independent when he said it is not a fight that either guy really needed, but here we are and testament to both guys for stepping up and doing it. WBO No.1 and WBO No.2, the Interim title is on the line and, while some people might not like that word, it is an important one particular at the moment in the heavyweight division. We all know Usyk, with the unified titles, is angling for a possible undisputed fight early next year with Tyson Fury, but the belt on Saturday night is going to pay a lot into 2023 in the heavyweight division.

“We are here because Joe Joyce wanted this fight, that is the reason. We have worked very hard to get here and both sides will probably admit it was not the easiest deal to get done. We thought we had it done, then we didn’t and then we thankfully managed to resolve some issues. It is going to be a cracking night, it is a stacked card and I am really happy to be working with so many different promoters, including Boxxer, and I appreciate their support, particularly Ben and Sky for making this happen and allowing us to make it on BT Box Office. That type of good spirited nature is required in this sport at times and we see it across the whole card. We’ve got Lou DiBella working with us in regards to the Cacace-Magnesi fight, plus the great Amanda Serrano looking to unify again working with MVP, Jake Paul and Nikisa. Plus our friends at Top Rank for taking this on ESPN+, so this really is a culmination of a lot of different promotional companies coming together, making fights happen and delivering for fight fans.”

Joe Joyce
“You have been in the sport a long time – a seasoned vet. He is seeing a psychologist so maybe there is some weakness in his mental capabilities that he needs to work on, I would imagine. I don’t believe there will be an easy night against me and he will find out with real time punches to his head, body and all over. He sees me as a lump and this big lump will be coming at him on Saturday night.

“I’ve had a really great camp with my team and Salas over there has been sending me little clips of what I need to work on in the fight. We are well prepared and have done all the biomechanics and polishing up of all my skills. It was really great to have that last fight against Hammer to show that I can take three or four right hands coming forward. I am in the better place and will improve on all the things I need to in this fight. I feel I am in the best place and what a great opponent in Joseph Parker. I just want to get the gloves on and fight him after this little talking session.”

Joseph Parker
“I don’t really care what he thinks or what his opinion is on my power or how I fight. He’ll get a taste of it on Saturday night. I’ve done the work and I back everything that Andy says. We’ve been in the gym every day grinding away with Tyson joining our runs and training, cheering us on with positive vibes. Everything has been ticked off in this camp so there are no excuses and no doubts. I will go in there and win, and win well. Joe Joyce has one style, I don’t see any adjustments or any change. I t just depends on how I show up.

“I see a lump when I look at him, a big man, a man who is confident and ready. And is going to be stopped in his tracks. I truly believe that and I am very confident going into this fight. Hype train.”

Ben Shalom (Boxxer)
“Outside maybe the top four guys, this is the biggest fight in the division with what’s on the line. Mentioning Joe Joyce wanted this fight, when we signed Joe Parker, despite him signing with us he said ‘Ben, if there is a way, make this fight happen’. We managed to work with George and get the terms that Joseph wanted and George was great with that. This is the fight Joseph Parker wanted, make no mistake about that. And so to be able to get it on for him, he feels this is coming at the right time in his career, he has had a few fights with Andy Lee, and he feels like he is coming into the peak of his career. He is 30 years old, a former world champion and seven years younger than Joe Joyce. He feels fresh, he feels ready, he’s got the experience and we felt this is the perfect fight. Thankfully, with Queensberry and BT as well, the fight is on and the fans are happy. I think the card is very, very good as well and I can’t wait for Saturday night.”

“I’ve been following Mr Joe Parker and his team during training camp for this fight and he has been doing great conditioning, working hard. One thing I would like to say to his team, you can run, but remember you can’t hide. We have been working with so many good sparring partners and the Hammer fight broke the ice after a layoff without a fight. We will see on Saturday night, man down, man down!”

“Any fight can be made an easy fight depending on what style you use and what tactics you use. Joseph Parker has been well drilled throughout this camp and knows what he has to do to make this an easy fight. I’m not going to say how he should do it, but he knows and I know. I mean no disrespect to Joe Joyce, we all know his credentials in the sport and what he has done so far. He hasn’t fought anyone like Joseph Parker yet. It will be a hard fight and at this level it is a minimum requirement, to work hard. Joseph Parker has all the skill, the speed and the talent, plus the determination to win this fight easily – if he does it well.”

“We have tremendous respect for Joseph Parker, a former world champion who has got the heart of a warrior and he is elite. A world champion and Joe wants to get there. I think that Joe Joyce can get there and will get there on Saturday night. Joseph’s team have publicly been saying things that show very little respect for Joe Joyce. I heard someone on their side say he has got zero boxing ability. I look at this man who is about to go 15-0. Show me a man who has got his resume at 14-0. He has not fought anyone with a losing record, he has fought former world champions, beaten Daniel Dubois, who people said would flatten him in two or three rounds. He consistently defies expectations and consistently defies the disrespect that he gets constantly. I think on Saturday you are going to see the real level of Joe Joyce and what he does when he faces off against a fighter at the very top of the division. No doubt when Joe wins people will still criticise things, but this guy is going up and up and only going one way. For me, Usyk, Fury and Joyce are the top three in the division.”

New York, September 21, 2022. —  Heather “The Heat” Hardy versus Calista Silgado will be the main event of a six bout card stacked with local boxers on her much anticipated return to the ring on Thursday, October 13.  The card, tabbed “New Beginnings,” will take place at Sony Hall, in the heart of Times Square, mid-town Manhattan.

Hardy-Silgado will be a six round lightweight bout.  In the co-feature will be Ivan Golub, a native of the Ukraine who currently resides in Brooklyn.  The remainder of the card includes Andy Dominguez of the Bronx, Lebanon native Nadim Salloum now residing in Brooklyn, Orville Crooks who hails from the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn and Armenian Petros Ananyan who resides in Los Angeles.

The card is being promoted by Boxing Insider, who is making their professional boxing promotional debut.

Heather Hardy (22-2, 4 KO’s), Brooklyn born and raised and former World Boxing Organization Featherweight Champion, will bring “The Heat” back after 17 months of inactivity as she mounts another run at a world championship.  Hardy is currently ranked #12 in the lightweight division by the Women’s International Boxing Association.  Heather is a graduate of John Jay College in Brooklyn, began boxing in the gym at age twenty-four and made her professional debut in 2014 at the tender age of twenty-eight. In 2013 she won the vacant UBF International super bantamweight title and in 2014 won the WBC International super bantamweight title, which she successfully defended five times. On October 27, 2018, Heather became world champion, winning the WBO featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Shelly Vincent at Madison Square Garden. Heather lost the title the following September to Amanda Serrano in a clash of women boxing stars.

“I’m glad to be working with Boxing Insider promotions. It’s great to start now so when it comes time to retire from fighting, it’s a way to keep me involved in the sport,” said Hardy who is not only headlining the event but also has a big behind the scenes role. “It has given me the opportunity to use all the knowledge I have acquired over the years as a fighter to help create this platform that is going to elevate the next generation of fighters from New York.”

Calista Silgado (20-15, 15 KOs) from Santiago de Tolu, Colombia made her professional debut in 2012 and is an eight-time world title challenger. She also fought in a bare-knuckle fight in October 2021.

In a co-feature, Ivan Golub, a native of the Ukraine who currently resides in Brooklyn, will be putting his USBA welterweight title on the line in a yet to be determined opponent.  Golub (20-1, 15 KO’s), known as “The Volk,” is ranked #7 in the world by the International Boxing Federation. 

Fans at Sony Hall will also get a chance to see Andy Dominguez (7-0, 5 KO’s) of the Bronx, a dynamic flyweight who currently holds the World Boxing Association Fedecentro title, which he puts on the line. At 18 years of age, he is already 14th in the world in the WBA rankings.  

The unpredictable Nadim Salloum (8-1, 3 KO’s), the first pro fighter born and raised in Lebanon, will be seen in a six-round light heavyweight bout. Salloum, who now lives in Brooklyn, has a large and vocal following among his countrymen in the New York City area. 

Another light heavyweight on the card is Orville Crooks (3-0, 2 KO’s), one of best amateurs New York has produced in recent years. Crooks, who hails from the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, is both a U.S. Amateur champion and a National Golden Gloves champion. For him, the sky is truly the limit. 

In an eight-round super lightweight bout will be former World Boxing Association Continental Americas Super Lightweight Champion Petros Ananyan (16-3-2, 7 KOs), born and raised in Armenia and now residing in Los Angeles.  Petros will battle Brazilian Paulo Cesar Galdino (12-5, 8 KOs)

Maxi Hughes (defends IBO World Lightweight title against Kid Galahad): Only Barry knows if he’s the same after that KO. Speaking to Terri about it, she had the same with Alicia Baumgardner on the same night, but she’s exorcised those demons in March by getting back in the ring. I spoke to Tony Bellew, and he said, no-one gets to see if they have exorcised the demons until they get back through the ropes and get hit on the chin by eight ounce gloves. There was genuine compassion there, no-one likes to see a fellow fighter go down as heavy as that and see paramedics rush to the ring. We never think it’s going to happen we just want to get in, fight and get home to our families. 
 
I don’t put pressure on myself in terms of ‘get through this fight and the next fight is massive’. It’s the way I live my life. I’ve got two young kids that I adore, and being a full-time boxer means I am around them more, that’s where the pressure comes because I want to keep living that life. What comes next will happen, nothing is guaranteed, I just want to keep being a full-time fighter and the best Dad to my kids.
 
The form and momentum are with me, but I am underdog again and that’s something I am used to, it’s just how I approach things regardless of what people think, the bookies think; we’re confident as a team in what we’re doing and that’s the most important thing – getting my hand raised and hearing ‘and still’.  
 
Kid Galahad (moves up to Lightweight to challenge Hughes): I always put big pressure on myself in every fight. I’ve got the underdog mentality, every fight is do or die and I must do a job on Maxi Hughes, and I will. This new weight I feel fresher, I’m not struggling, and I feel great.
 
With the Kiko Martinez loss, that’s boxing, it can happen, I went straight back into the gym. You (Eddie) said to me to go on holiday and have a break, but I had to get in the gym and clear my mind, think about how it went wrong, I know what I did wrong, we’ve adjusted it and on Saturday night we’ll see that.
 
Maxi’s mate Josh got KO’d by Mauricio Lara and he came back to win a World title, so it depends how you are built. I think if Maxi got KO’d the way I did, he would have been finished but I am a different gravy to him, and on Saturday we’ll see.
 
It’s not mind games, it’s the truth. I got KO’d by Kiko, he asked his trainer to pull him out of a fight because he had a bloody nose. That’s the truth, I’m not sugar-coating it, I would rather go out on my shield, that’s the difference in our mentalities.
 
Stefy Bull (manager of Maxi Hughes, trainer/manager of Terri Harper): Maxi has probably had the best rise in British boxing over the last few years, very unexpected with some fantastic wins and fights he wasn’t meant to win. The bookies have him as the underdog again and he relishes that. Maxi has been training for Barry for nearly 12 weeks, but we’ve had things thrown our way like the Ryan Garcia fight or the Jorge Linares fight, but Maxi has just stayed focused on Barry. 
 
They might be counter punchers, but I don’t see this being a boring fight at all. They both have a lot of pride, it’s a Yorkshire derby, there’s a bit of needle between them, and I am looking forward to it as a fan, not just as Maxis’ manager. It’s intriguing with Barry coming up a couple of weights, but Maxi is in his prime, he’s not showing any signs of decline and he hasn’t dropped a round in his last two fights. A confident fighter is very hard to beat, Maxi is a big strong Lightweight, this is his division, and he’s not going to want to let the title go because a Maxi Hughes win does warrant a super-fight next that could be life changing. He is the easiest fighter to manage because he just says yes, or yes but can you get me a bit more money. He will fight anyone, and I think the fans are in for a fantastic night.
 
I think Barry is going to be better at Lightweight, I really do. Dominic is one of the best trainers in the world, he knows what he’s doing, and Barry will be rejuvenated, stronger and full of energy at 135lbs. I’ve been with fighters that struggle to make weight, Terri is one of them but the McDonnell twins, Robbie Barrett; we’re in a weight-making sport and some people that aren’t in boxing don’t realize how fatigued fighters come but they are still having to grind it out because they have that belt. So, I think Barry will be better, but Maxi is ready for that, and it’s going to be a better fight for it.
 
Dominic Ingle (trainer of Kid Galahad): I don’t think four pounds was going to be enough headroom for Barry, and a lot of fighters that move up from nine stone, they may have one fight at Super-Featherweight, but they tend to move up to Lightweight. It was always a struggle but when you are in the World champion position, you cannot really turn down fights as that belt is your bargaining power. Kiko still has fight in him, he proved that against JW when he broke his jaw, he’s a massive puncher, and Barry just got caught, and the resistance to the shots just wasn’t there.
 
Barry has never had a problem taking a shot, so I do believe it was down to making weight. So, I think we will see a different fighter on Saturday, a more hydrated and powerful Kid Galahad, back to his usual ways. Maxi is a good fighter and he’s come good the last couple of years and it’s his title to defend, but we’re here to take it and hopefully we do.
 
He can’t take any chances or leave anything to doubt, he’s got to put it on Maxi and leave no doubt. Maxi is a good boxer, he likes to move and can fight when he has to, but it’s the last chance saloon for Barry and he has to win and make a good impression if he wants the big fights at Lightweight. There’s pride on the line, they both have to win this, defeat for either of them is probably the end of the road.
 
Hannah Rankin (defending the WBA and IBO World Super-Welterweight titles against Terri Harper): I don’t believe Terri is big enough to be at this weight ad she’s going to find that out on Saturday. I’m a true 154lber, WBA and IBO World champion and I’m building my strength and development as a fighter, so I am looking forward to putting on a show. 
 
Moving up so many weights, I don’t think she can be the same because things change when you add weight to your frame. I’m expecting the best version of Terri though, she’s a former World champion for a reason, I have a lot of respect for her and her team, but I don’t think she’ll be the same at 154.
 
There are some very exciting fights out there and a unification with Tasha Jonas is on the cards, that’s one of those things that just fuels my fore for the fight, I only see my arm being raised but those fights will have to wait, my focus is on Terri.
 
Terri Harper (moves up to challenge Rankin for the WBA and IBO titles): I’m excited, this is the first camp that I can say I’ve really enjoyed, not just because of the weight but everything else. I feel I have my chance to become World champion again, I’ve got the fire burning and I’m hungry for it and I know getting the win at the weekend will open even more doors, so I am excited.
 
People don’t realize that I walk around at 10/11/12st, so me cutting weight to get to Super-Featherweight, that was reckless, and I was fighting World class fighters under fueled, tired, and unhappy. So, when we got this chance to go up the weights, I just knew I would feel comfortable at the weight and go in there knowing I can handle myself.
 
I’ve matured as a fighter; I’ve experienced a lot of things. Hannah thinks I am quiet, timid, and shy but I’m here to show that I do have a voice and it’s not Stefy on my twitter, I can handle myself.
 
Cyrus Pattinson (faces Jorick Luisetto for the IBO Continental Welterweight title): I’m more than happy to step up, my camps haven’t been smooth sailing recently with fights falling through. So, this opportunity has come at the right time for me, and I believe that that it wouldn’t have come if I wasn’t ready, so I am going to get that title on Saturday.
 
I want these fights and these titles. I’ve been sparring 16 rounds in the gym with bigger lads, so I know that I am more than capable. All my years with Team GB, I’ve always been prepared to fight anyone and it’s onwards and upwards from here, I don’t want to stay in a comfort zone at all, and this fight has got me switched on.
 
Solomon Dacres (fights Dominic Akinlade over ten rounds): The Sokolowski fight was great, especially looking at what he’s done since then, and my last fight in July was a good test too. I just need to stay active; we’re moving up to ten rounders and kicking on to the next level, I’m being let off the leash. 
 
I’m not here to hang about, I’ve got great stamina for a Heavyweight, and I train very hard, so let’s go to the ten rounders and push on to bigger fights. That’s what we’re in boxing for, to win titles, so let’s go and get those title fights. The next 12-18 months I feel we’re going to be knocking on the door for them.
 
Cheavon Clarke (fights Marcos Karalitzky): We’re here to step up, not hide behind mediocre fighter, I want to show the people what the excitement is about. You need experience, I don’t come to KO people but as and when it comes, I will take the opportunity. I know that you (Eddie) will navigate me as I need to be, and I’ll handle whoever is in front of me.
 
Junaid Bostan (2-0 and makes his Matchroom debut): I said to you in Sheffield, Eddie, get your pen and paper out as you will be signing me after this. I’m not surprised to be here, but I am privileged. I’ve got big things that I am planning, and I am going to make the most of every opportunity. I’m looking to put on a big performance on Saturday and carry on with my career. He’ll be 2-1 on Saturday night, I will do as I am told as I’m in good hands with my team.
 
Mohammed Sameer (4-0 Middleweight): I got the call last Friday from my manager Lee Eaton, I got tickets on Monday evening, and we’ve already sold 150, so we’ve got a lot of people coming on Saturday and they will make plenty of noise. I’ve always dreamed of being on cards like this so it’s a dream come true and I’m ready to perform on Saturday. 
 
I’ve got an exciting style, I come to fight, and I am going to show everyone what I am about. 
 
Rhiannon Dixon (Anthony Crolla-trained Lightweight, fighting Edina Kiss): When Anthony put that tweet out (about working hard) I thought ‘get the violins out!’ I’m the one making the weight, all he’s bothered about is his hair! I think it will be a good learning fight for me. She’s got a lot of experience, she’s been in with Amanda Serrano, Mikaela Mayer, so I am looking to put on a good performance.
 
We’re looking at stepping up in. 2023 and hopefully fighting for some titles, it’s an exciting time and going over to Spain last time out and dealing with that fight, I think it’s put me in good stead.

Matchroom and Wasserman stars make up the undercard when ‘Born Rivals’ Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn clash on a sold-out blockbuster night of action at The O2 in London on Saturday October 8, exclusively live on DAZN around the world and on DAZN PPV in the UK and Ireland.

Olympic gold medal star Galal Yafai will defend his WBC International Flyweight title against Gohan Rodriguez Garcia. Yafai (2-0 2 KOs) has made an impressive start to life in the paid ranks following his golden trip to the 2020 Tokyo games, winning the title he puts on the line on his debut at the North Greenwich venue in February, and successfully defending it with a second round KO win at Madison Square Garden in April. The Birmingham ace now meets Mexican Garcia (12-1-1 1 KO) in his second defence of his title, with the 21 year old challenger fighting outside of his homeland for the first time in his second title fight, having landed the International Silver title in April 2021.

Light-Heavyweight star Lyndon Arthur is back out in quick succession following his return to action after headlining in September. Arthur (20-1 14 KOs) stopped Walter Sequeira in bullyish fashion when he got the win inside six rounds at The University of Bolton Stadium earlier this month, and the former Commonwealth champion will look to swiftly put his name back where it belongs and return to title action.

Ellie Scotney hunts for another title as she challenges Mary Romero for the European Super-Bantamweight title. Scotney (5-0) landed the WBA Intercontinental title in February at Alexandra Palace and successfully defended that strap at The O2 in May – beating former World champions Jorgelina Guanini and Maria Cecilia Roman in those bouts. The next strap in her sights proudly belongs to Romero (8-2 2 KOs) who puts the belt on the line for the third time. The Spaniard picked up the vacant belt on home turf in January 2020 and then successfully defended it against Amy Timlin in Barcelona in September 2021 and most recently against Maria Cecchi in Milan, Italy in May and now fights in England for the first time in a clash that should move the winner into World title contention.

It’s a family affair for Harlem Eubank, who fights on the undercard of his older cousin Chris Jr and meets Spaniard David Martin over six rounds. Eubank (15-0 6 KOs) has made the Super-Lightweight division stand up and take notice with eye-catching performances of late, notably his stunning one-punch KO of Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd in May at The Indigo at The O2, after forcing Viorel Simion to retire after five rounds of a scheduled eight in Cardiff. Not to forget his most recent win over Eliot Chavez in July where Eubank outclassed and frustrated the dangerous Mexican opponent into illegal punches, forcing a disqualification win to be awarded.

World rated Middleweight Felix Cash continues his hunt for World title honours as he meets the unbeaten Connor Coyle for the WBA Intercontinental title. Undefeated Cash (15-0 10 KOs) got through a gut-check in his last outing against dangerman Magomed Madiev at Alexandra Palace in Feburary, and the former British and Commonwealth champion, ranked number four with the WBO and number 10 with the IBF, will look to enter the top ten in the WBA with victory. Coyle () will have other ideas though, and the Florida-based Irishman, ranked number ten to Cash’s number 12 ranking with the WBA, will be out to ruin Cash’s plans and make a name for himself in his first fight in England.

Big hitting Heavyweight ‘Magic’ Matty Harris is on the hunt for a third first round KO win in a row and will take on Chris Healey over six. Harris (3-0 2 KOs) put Mait Metsis away in the opening session of their fight in Newcastle in April and repeated that trick two months later in Liverpool against Pawel Strykowski. Standing in the way of the Coventry man’s hat-trick is Healey (), the Stockport stalwart who has already tested the rising ambitions of Fabio Wardley and David Adeleye this year.

Shannon Courtenay makes a welcome return to the ring against Gemma Ruegg. Courtenay (7-2 3 KOs) will step through the ropes just one day shy of her last action in Liverpool, where Jamie Mitchell picked up Courtenay’s WBA World Bantamweight title via majority decision after the Brit failed to make the weight. ‘The Baby-Faced Assassin’ is aiming to get right back into the mix to become a two-time World ruler, and that starts with her return against Ruegg (5-4 1 KO), the Bournemouth fighter who like Courtenay, also fights for the tenth time in her pro career.

Former Team GB talent Chloe Watson completes the line-up, with the Flyweight talent taking on former World champion Nancy Franco in a six rounder. Watson (3-0) returns to the capital where she made her debut at York Hall in November and is looking for win number four in the paid ranks after winning on home soil in Merseyside in June in her first six rounder against Fara El Bousairi. The Birkenhead boxer, who trains under the former light welterweight and welterweight world champion Ricky Hatton, faces a real step up in the form of Franco (19-17-2 ), the vastly experienced Mexican who has held the World title at Minimumweight and challenged at Light-Flyweight.

CANCUN, September 21, 2022  —  The final press conference took place today in Cancun for ProBox TV, Marquez Promotions and Pepe Gomez’ Cancun Boxing for Friday’s boxing card at the Oasis Resort.  Friday’s boxing will also take place at Oasis Resort and will be streamed live on ProBox TV and the ProBox App beginning at 9:00 pm ET / 6 pm PT.

In Friday’s main event Cristopher “Pollo” Lopez (15-0-1, 10 KOs), from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will battle Alejandro “El Conejo” Diaz (11-4-2, 6 KOs), from Mexico City, Mexico for a WBC Regional Title. NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 21, 2022) — Shakur Stevenson is two days away from the ultimate homecoming. The WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine junior lightweight king will defend his belts Friday evening against Robson Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) at Prudential Center. Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, is a Newark native who is fighting at home as a world champion for the first time.

Before Stevenson and Conceição took the mic, the Mayor’s Office of the City of Newark presented Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) with a proclamation declaring September 21, 2022, as Shakur Stevenson Day in the city. That was followed up by special plaque from Quitman Street School students, Stevenson attended Quitman Street for elementary school, and the building sits less than a mile from Prudential Center.

NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 20, 2022) — WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine junior lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson has never fought at home as a world champion. The six letters on the front of his trunks — Newark — represents his past and immediate future.

Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs), a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, will defend his belts against Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) on Friday evening at Prudential Center. He has fought at Prudential Center once before. In July 2019, he stopped Alberto Guevara in his last fight before winning the WBO featherweight world title that October.

A world championship homecoming, though, feels a little different. Stevenson kicked off fight week Tuesday afternoon at Boylan Street Recreation Center, where he met several dozen local children and was greeted by Councilwoman LaMonica McIver and other politicians from Newark and the surrounding areas. Stevenson trained at Boylan as a youngster and always makes a point to return to his roots.

Earlier that day, Conceição received a hero’s welcome at Mantena Global Care, a Newark-based nonprofit that serves the Latino community in the city. Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood is home to one of the nation’s largest Brazilian populations. Many local dignitaries, including East Ward Council Member Michael J. Silva, were on hand to support Conceição.

“I knew that Newark had a large Brazilian population, but I am humbled by the reception I have received today,” Conceição said. “I fight for my country, and I will go out there Friday night to win these titles for my people.”

NEW YORK (September 20, 2022)-Split-T Management fighters Jessica Camara and LeAnna Cruz each had their hands raised in bouts over the weekend.

Friday night in Philadelphia, Cuz remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Lillian Almarez in a super flyweight bout.

Cruz of Allentown, PA won by scores of 39-37 on all cards and is now 3-0.

Cruz is promoted by Hard Hitting Promotions.

A night later in Wilmington, Delaware, former world title challenger Camara registered her second consecutive vicious knockout as she needed just 40 seconds to take out Josefina Vega in their junior welterweight bout at The Chase Fieldhouse

Camara landed a left hook that put Vega down and out.

With the win, the Montreal native is 10-3 with two knockouts.

“I am not going to say I am unimpressed by his skills, but I felt Nathan Weston beat him, and probably could’ve stopped him in their fight. Brewart gets hit a lot. I hit very hard. It would be nice to get a top five ranking with them and move towards to a bigger fight. It’s the same every time for me, get this one won, and a bigger fight could be next.
 
“I don’t take boxing personally, this is my full time job and that’s where my mind is at. He’s in the way of me providing for my family. I’ the underdog and I love that. He was a World champion in his last fight so he’s a high-calibre opponent, that’s really getting the juices flowing. 
 
“I have faith in my ability and where I am in my team. I’m not one for bold predictions – I just want a win, however it comes, and I believe I am going to get it.”

PHILADELPHIA (September 23, 2022)-Junior Lightweight Joshafat Ortiz remained undefeated with a Six-round unanimous decision over Mario Ezequiel Sayal Lozano in the featured bout at The Fillmore Philadelphia.

The Friday night card was promoted by Hard Hitting Promotions, with the Ortiz – Lozano fight being co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment.

Ortiz of Reading, PA won by shutout tallies of 60-54 on all cards and is now 11-0. Lozano is 18-9-1.

Hard Hitting Promotions junior welterweight Jan Carlos Rivera stopped Gonzalo Carlos Dallera in round two of their scheduled six-round affair.

In round two, Rivera dropped Dallera with a body shot. Rivera scored another knockdown when he landed a hard right hook. Dallera got to his feet, nut was deemed unable to continue at 2:58.

Rivera of Philadelphia is 7-1 with five knockouts. Dallera is 10-18.

Recent Hard Hitting Promotions signee LeAnna Cruz remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Lillian Almarez in a super flyweight bout.

Cruz of Allentown, PA won by scores of 39-37 on all cards and is now 3-0.

Carlos Ramos won a six-round unanimous decision over veteran Diuhl Olguin in a junior lightweight bout.

Ramos of Spain was able to drop Olguin in the opening frame, and cruised home to a victory by scores of 59-54 on all cards and is now 16-2. Olguin is 15-26-5.

Jeffrey Villanueva stopped Jose Torres in round one of their four-round bantamweight fight.

Villanueva was able to land some hard combinations that put Torres down, and the bout was stopped at 2:44.

Villanueva of Allentown, PA is now 2-0 with one knockout. Torres is 0-2.

John Leonardo won a six-round unanimous decision over Pedro Hernandez in a super featherweight bout.

Leonardo of Englishtown, NJ won by scores of 60-54 and is now 8-1-1. Hernandez is 7-13-1.

Axl Melendez Salgado remained undefeated with a second round stoppage over Abdiel Padilla Burgos in a welterweight bout.

Salgado scored two knockdowns, with the latter forcing a corner stoppage at 2:10.

Salgado of Ceiba, Puerto Rico is 4-0 with three knockouts. Burgos falls to 1-4.

QUINCY, Mass. (September 20, 2022) – Granite Chin Promotions has announced its final two events of 2022, both in Massachusetts, November 19 in Springfield, and Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 23) in Bridgewater.

“With a lot of the Granite Chin fighters progressing in their careers,” Granite Chin president Chris Traietti said, “I feel like it is on me to progress with my events to showcase the fighters and propel them onto much bigger stages. After the August 6^th event, I felt like it was time to recharge the batteries for a few weeks, then gear up to close out the year strong. I am psyched to be finally out in the Springfield area putting on a stacked card from top to bottom at a great venue like Mass Mutual Center. A huge thank you to my partner in this show, Gunther Fishgold, for tirelessly helping out behind the scenes to help make this happen. A few days later we are going back to Bridgewater to honor the late, great Jimmy Farrell in what will be a great night of Pro-Am boxing.” 

Granite Chin’s first show in Springfield, “Springfield Championship Boxing” at Mass Mutual Center, will showcase some of the best fighters from Western Mass., including undefeated prospects such as Pittsfield’s Steve Sumpter (6-0, 6 KOs), as Holyoke’s Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (9-0, 6 KOs) and Carlos Castillo (5-0, 3 KOs).

Granite Chin’s best overall show pits a pair of undefeated prospects in an 8-round bout for the vacant Massachusetts Light Heavyweight Championship, Sumpter vs. New Bedford’s Edet “Papito” Mkpanam (8-0, 7 KOs).

Sumpter, who has knocked out all six of his professional opponents to date, has been campaigning as a super middleweight, while Mkpanam captured a silver medal at the 2018 New England Golden Gloves Tournament.

In another 8-round matchup, Whitley (9-0, 6 KOs) takes on dangerous welterweight Kris Jacobs (5-2-1, 2 KOs), of Fall River (MA). Whitley is a promising prospect who is trained by former pro fighters, father Derrick and Uncle Darren. Jacobs has defeated three previously undefeated opponents, including 2-0 Ryan Thomas Clark in his last fight by way of a 6-round split decision.

Rounding out the tripleheader of Western Mass. pro boxing power also includes Castillo vs. Travis Gambardella (7-2-2, 3 KOs), of Revere, MA, in a 6-round welterweight fight.

The 24-year-old Castillo is a gifted boxer who is stepping up in terms of his level of opponents versus Gambardella, who has won 5 of his last 7 fights and his two draws could have easily been victories.

Topping the undercard is undefeated lightweight prospect RayJay “The Destroyer” Bermudez (16-0, 11 KOs) puts his perfect pro record on the line against battle-tested Tyrone “Hands of Stone” Luckey (15-18-4, 11 KOs) in an 8-round match. Bermudez is trained by his uncle Hector Bermudez, who owns and operates a gym in Springfield. Luckey has become a gatekeeper who has tested numerous prospects.

“This show is going to soon be the talk of Massachusetts boxing,” Traietti commented, “if it isn’t already. All the fighters thus far have been awesome to deal with. The six guys in the tripleheader portion jumped on their chance to step up and see where they are at. This is just the start of a bunch of powerhouse local shows Granite Chin is going to be a part of. As a promoter, shows like this are easy to promote, fights like these sell themselves.”

The inaugural Jimmy Farrell Fight Night is in memory of the late Jimmy Farrell, a popular New England trainer who recently passed away. Granite Chin will donate to Old Colony Hospice for its care of Farrell.

Jimmy Farrell Fight Night will be a Pro-Am card showcasing some of New England’s best amateurs on a card that will soon be announced.

The pro card is headlined by a 6-round main event between Swansea’s Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (3-2, 1 KO) and Woburn’s Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (4-2, 2 KOs) for the vacant Massachusetts Middleweight Championship.

The Andreozzi-Baptiste title fight was supposed to happen August 6^th at the same venue, however, Andreozzi became ill in the locker room during fight night, canceling their fight.

The grandson of the great Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Atlanta-based James “Savage” Hagler, Jr. (3-1, 1 KO), will fight Scott “Bombz” Lampert (3-6, 2 KOs) in the 4-round co-featured event. Hagler, Jr. will be fighting close to where his late grandfather fought out of in Brockton.

Also scheduled to fight in separate 4-rounders are Providence (RI) super lightweight Rob “TNT” Nolette (1-2, 1 KO), as well as a pair of Brockton fighters, heavyweight Kirk Wilmont (1-0, 1 KO) and pro-debuting junior welterweight Stephen Davis.

“Jimmy loved all aspects and levels of boxing, so it is only fitting to do a Pro-Am in his memory and raise some money for a great organization in Old Colony Hospice,” Traietti concluded. “It will be a fun night with great fans, plus some of Jimmy’s closest friends and family. The Andreozzi- Baptiste and the Hagler-Lampert fights are going to be fireworks. These are two legit 50/50 fights with completely contrasting styles. We have Melissa Kelly matching up the amateurs and nobody knows the amateur scene around here like her. NEW YORK – September 20, 2022 – One of boxing’s most exciting prospects, Ashton “H20” Sylve and two of its most intriguing newcomers, Chris Avila and Mikhail “Doctor Mike” Varshavski highlight the SHOWTIME PPV undercard on Saturday, October 29 (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) headlined by Jake “The Problem Child” Paul vs. UFC legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva at formerly Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., just outside Phoenix. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.

Teenage sensation Sylve (7-0, 7 KOs) will increase his level of competition and put his knockout streak on the line against durable Braulio Rodriguez (20-4, 17 KOs) of the Dominican Republic in an eight-round lightweight bout contested at 133 pounds. Avila, a disciple of UFC superstar Nate Diaz, will look to make a statement against “Dr. Mike” Varshavski, a board-certified family physician and social media influencer with nearly 23 million followers. Their four-round cruiserweight bout is contracted at 185 pounds.

The first prospect signed by MVP, Sylve of Long Beach, Calif., has stopped all his opponents in four rounds or less, demonstrating hair-trigger reflexes. The 18-year-old recently knocked out Giovanni Gutierrez in the first round of his MVP debut at lightweight in May. He fought three times in 2021 and twice thus far in 2022. A gifted amateur who turned pro at 16 with over 100 wins and 10 national titles to his credit, Sylve first rose to fame as an eight-year-old when a training video made by his father, Ivan, went viral, leading to an invite to Floyd Mayweather’s storied gym in Las Vegas. 

“This is a dream come true and I’m really excited for the opportunity to put on a spectacular performance on SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View,” Sylve said. “This is my toughest opponent yet and I’ve been training hard. I’m looking forward to introducing the world to H2O on October 29th.”

Sylve is facing an experienced opponent in Rodriguez, who has scored knockouts in all but three of his wins thanks to an aggressive, swing for the fences style. When he’s lost, it has come against top-flight opposition. Rodriguez has shared the ring with lightweight contender Ryan Garcia and title challenger Christopher Diaz. He dropped a split decision to then undefeated prospect Alberto Mercado and a unanimous decision to then unbeaten Carlos Diaz, the first blemish of his career after scoring 15-straight knockouts to start his pro campaign.

“I’ve fought on big stages before and I’m going to take full advantage of this great opportunity to show fans what I’m capable of,” Rodriguez said. “I’m thankful for this chance. October 29^th can’t come soon enough.”

A veteran of both the UFC and Bellator, Chris Avila (1-1 as a boxer) has made the walk for 17 professional fights and has never been stopped or hurt during his time in the cage and ring. Making his second appearance on a Jake Paul card, the 28-year-old Stockton, Calif., native is an everyday training partner of Nate Diaz, and signature member of the Nick Diaz Army. As was the case in Tampa, Fla., when Avila beat Anthony Taylor in a super middleweight boxing match last December, Diaz and more than 40 members of the Nick Diaz Army will once again be present for Avila when he takes on “Dr. Mike.” With a reputation as an aggressive fighter, Avila’s calling card overhand right landed him two first round KOs in 2021 in MMA fights, and a 3-0 combat sports record for the year. 

“Hmmmm, let’s see. I am giving him a height advantage, a reach advantage and a medical degree advantage,” Avila said. “It’s whatever though. If he wants to go to boxing fantasy camp, then I’m glad to give him the lesson he wants. A real fight against a real fighter who is not here to play games or clout chase for Instagram.”

It’s a good bet Avila has never faced anyone with a bedside manner like “Dr. Mike” Varshavski. Voted “Sexiest Doctor Alive” by People Magazine, the 6-3 Varshavski will attempt to prescribe a steady diet of right hands to Avila in his pro boxing debut. A fitness nut with over 10 million subscribers to his YouTube channel, “Dr. Mike” bloodied and battered YouTube personality Ian “iDubbbz” Washburn this past May in the main event of Creator Clash to walk away with a victory in the exhibition bout. If “Dr. Mike” puts forth a similar effort on October 29, the prognosis could be grim for Avila. “Dr. Mike” donated his entire purse in May to help relief efforts in Ukraine and plans to donate his purse on October 29 to a Boys & Girls Club of NYC.

“As a practicing physician, I’ve taken an oath to ‘do no harm,’ but when those ‘exam’ gloves come off and the boxing gloves slide on, all bets are off,” Dr. Varshavski said. “With one win under my belt, I’m hungry to add more. And this pro fight with Chris Avila could be just what the doctor ordered.”
