VIDEO: Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2: London Press Conference

USYK VS. JOSHUA 2 LONDON PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Welcome everyone to London ahead of this huge press conference, this huge moment for the sport, the biggest prize in the sport of boxing – the World Heavyweight Championship. August 20th, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Two Heavyweight icons, Oleksandr Usyk – the reigning World Champion and the defending champion here against the challenger Anthony Joshua – former two-time Heavyweight World Champion. This fight has it all, one of the most eagerly anticipated events in boxing. We look forward to the ‘Rage on the Red Sea’.

Oleksandr Usyk, Unified Heavyweight World Champion:

“I am pleased to be here today. I am very happy to get the opportunity to fight in Saudi Arabia and help open new horizons for the sport of boxing. I love to travel around the world and fight in places for the first time. I am not fighting for money or any recognition. I am just doing my job now and will continue fighting until my heart keeps beating. I am not expecting anything from Anthony Joshua, but I know that he will be different, but so will I.”

Alexander Krassyuk, promoter of Oleksandr Usyk:

“It’s a pleasure to see everyone here at this event. As Egis mentioned, London is a really special city for Usyk. He became the Olympic Champion here and he became the Unified Heavyweight World Champion here. We started our journey with Usyk 9 years ago in the professionals. We did have a lot of fun on our way to success. He became the Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion, he became the Unified Heavyweight Champion. Now his objective is to become Undisputed. We have a very serious man to deal with on August 20th.  The fight takes place in the new destination of sports, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A country that is transforming itself and transforming the world of sports and the world of boxing in particular.”

Egis Klimas, manager of Oleksandr Usyk:

“Good afternoon everybody. Thank you London for having us here. We’re very excited to be here. UK London is Oleksandr’s hometown. He won a gold medal in 2012 here. He had pretty good wins against Tony Bellew, Mr Chisora. He has a lot of fans here in the UK. Thank you for having us here. In Jeddah we saw something different, something interesting, something new for the sport. We were treated like kings there. We did a lot of promo shoots. We can’t wait to go back to Saudi. We want to thank Prince Khalid and thank everyone from Saudi for this event and for supporting this sport and we’re looking forward to August 20th.”

Anthony Joshua, former Unified Heavyweight World Champion:

“It’s hard to say from a head to head who’s going to win a championship fight. So I don’t tend to look into head to heads so deeply, but for some they could think that’s a 1-0 victory. That’s down to opinion anyway. Shout out to everyone in Saudi Arabia as well! It is going to be my second time there; first time was lit and it is going to be even better this time for sure. Going down to the old city was unbelievable. I am sure you have seen some of the videos on social media. Anyone that is going, I am sure you are going to be in for a great time in Saudi Arabia.

“In terms of old AJ, same old G, I’m just doing what I’m doing. Grafting away. It is a rough and tough sport. Fighting these lefties is a nightmare! And I cannot make the same mistake twice. I am hungry and desperate but at the end of the day how I perform will speak.”

Robert Garcia, trainer of Anthony Joshua:

“The whole team, everybody around us, is very positive. We have to do whatever is takes. We have to come out with different strategies in case one doesn’t work. We’ll be ready for the fight. Anthony is listening. He believes in us and that’s the most important thing. In the ring he’s got to come out and do what we tell him to do. Usyk is a great fighter. I’ve known him since a few years back when he came to my gym a few times to train. He’s a very talented fighter. He’s got very different ways to fight. Seeing the size difference, the height, the reach, the weight – everything is in Anthony’s advantage. We’ve got to take advantage of that. We’ve got to train him to focus on that and come fight night do what we need to do to win.”

Sky’s the limit for CES’ Ortiz as unbeaten NABF and USBA champion cracks the top 10 among world-rated lightweights

Worcester, MA – The accolades continue to roll in for NABF and UBSA lightweight champion Jamaine Ortiz.Fresh off his big win over former Olympian and world champion Jamel Herring on ESPN, the Worcester, MA, native is now ranked No. 9 in the WBC among lightweights – the highest ranking of his career – positioning himself for a major opportunity to showcase his talent on the right platform in 2022.

“It feels great. It makes you step back and think, ‘Wow, time has really gone by,’” Ortiz sad. “It’s definitely an accomplishment, but even more of a motivator.

“The people around me feel happy because I’ve been with the same team since Day 1. I’m taking everyone with me. I feel people around me are proud and it gives them hope that, ‘Yes, you can make it out of here this way.’ The grass isn’t always greener elsewhere. I’ve proven that by consistency, hard work, pushing yourself, and taking hard fights, you’ll get there as well.

“I’m not shocked that I’m here because I envisioned myself being here,” Ortiz continued. “I’ve been a world champion before having the belt around my waist. I know it’ll happen. There’s no question about it.”

Ortiz, 16-0-1 with eight knockouts, is promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s CES Boxing. With his decisive win over Herring on May 21 in Nevada, the 5-foot-8 right-hander has captivated boxing audiences with his diverse skill set and humble, soft-spoken demeanor.

Ortiz rose through the amateur ranks, compiling a record of 100-14 and competing in in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials before making his pro debut later that year. A former apprentice carpenter, Ortiz has won three major titles in just under six years, first capturing the WBC World Youth Championship in 2019 followed by a victory over Nahir Albright on Showtime to add the NABF title. And on a night in which he says he was inexplicably calm from the ring walk to the opening bell, he captured the USBA title with the win over Herring, ensuring a top-10 world ranking and a seat at the table among the sport’s elite lightweights.

Now is a great time to compete as a 135-pounder. The lightweight division has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years with stars Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, and George Kambosos Jr., among others, ushering in a new era of under-30 lightweights competing in the some of the sport’s most celebrated rivalries. With his new No. 9 ranking, Ortiz is just five spots behind Kambosos, the former WBA, IBF, and WBO world champion; seven spots behind Garcia; and eight spots behind No. 1 challenger Vasyl Lomachenko, who has competed at lightweight for the past three years after dominating the 126- and 130-pound divisions.

Haney currently rules the roost as the undisputed lightweight champion – the first in this division in the four-belt era – boasting all four major belts after upending Kambosos earlier this month, but title reigns have been fleeting in this current era of parity at 135 pounds; the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles have changed hands three times since October of 2020 with only the WBC belt, which has been held by Haney since 2019, having had any semblance of a permanent home in recent years.

What does it all mean for Ortiz? The unification of the belts by Haney gives the division more of a dynasty with one fighter sitting comfortably atop the throne, but the race to be next line is a tight one, with perhaps only Haney and Garcia as the logical choices to challenge Haney for lightweight supremacy. There’s also the issue of the rematch clause included in the original Haney-Kambosos contract, which Kambosos reportedly plans to exercise. Regardless, Ortiz is in the conversation and knows another impressive showing in his next fight – and beyond – will continue to position him the opportunity of a lifetime.

“The trend now is everyone wants to be undisputed,” Ortiz said. “A lot of people think there are too many champions in boxing anyway, so it’s great in the sense that whoever wins gets all the titles and you’re truly the champion.”

Until the next opportunity comes, Ortiz will stay sharp to ensure he’s ready when he gets the call. This week, he travels to Puerto Rico to work with one of his trainers, Alex Caraballo, and take advantage of a few marketing opportunities – podcasts, public appearances, etc. – as he continues to build his brand outside of Worcester and the United States. At No. 9 in the rankings, “The Technician” Ortiz is on the cusp of becoming a household name.

“I’m constantly trying to market myself and just improve each day,” Ortiz said. “Puerto Rico doesn’t have a top lightweight right now and I feel I can be that lightweight champion. I hope they welcome me with open arms.”

August 20: Emanuel Navarrete-Eduardo Baez, San Diego’s Giovani Santillan & Nico Ali Walsh-Reyes Sanchez 2 Tops ESPN-Televised Bill at Pechanga Arena San Diego

SAN DIEGO (June 29, 2022) — A fighting cowboy, a hometown hero, and the grandson of “The Greatest” are set for a summer night to remember in San Diego.

Mexican star Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete will defend his WBO featherweight world title in the main event against countryman Eduardo “El Gemelo” Baez on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Navarrete also signed a new multi-year promotional agreement with Top Rank that will see him fight on the ESPN family of networks in events promoted in association with Zanfer Promotions.

The 10-round welterweight co-feature will see San Diego native Giovani “Gallo de Oro” Santillan risk his unbeaten record against a soon-to-be-announced opponent.

In a four-round special feature, undefeated middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of Muhammad Ali, will fight Reyes Sanchez in a rematch of their December 2021 bout that Ali Walsh edged by majority decision. Ali Walsh will fight in the historic venue that hosted one of his grandfather’s most memorable bouts. In March 1973, Ali and Ken Norton battled for 12 rounds at what was then known as San Diego Sports Arena. Ali suffered a broken jaw and lost a split decision in a major upset.

Navarrete-Baez, Santillan’s welterweight battle, and Ali Walsh-Sanchez 2 will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.

Ticket information for this event that will be promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, will be announced soon.

“San Diego is a great fight town, and this is an incredible card from top to bottom,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Emanuel Navarrete is always in tremendous action fights, and Eduardo Baez is the type of opponent who will stand in the center of the ring. Santillan is a fantastic young man who drew plenty of support from the local fans last time he fought here. Nico Ali Walsh has improved leaps and bounds since turning pro last year, and I expect him to leave no doubt against Sanchez this time.”

Navarrete (35-1, 29 KOs), winner of 30 consecutive bouts, is a two-weight world champion entering his 10th world title bout. A native of San Juan Zitlaltepec, Mexico, he emerged on the world scene with a pair of title fight victories over Isaac Dogboe, which started his run as one of boxing’s most fan-friendly world champions. Following five junior featherweight title defenses in nine months, Navarrete moved up to featherweight and won the WBO title in October 2020 with a decision over Ruben Villa. He defended his title twice in 2021, including last October’s 12-round barnburner over Joet Gonzalez at Pechanga Arena.

“I am very excited to finally be back in the ring on August 20. The inactivity of these last eight months has served to give my body the rest it needed and to reflect on many things,” Navarrete said. “Now I’m coming back stronger physically and mentally. I’m going to show that I’m ready to fight any champion at 126 or 130 pounds. There will be a lot of ‘Vaquero’ for a long time.”

Baez (21-2-2, 7 KOs), from Mexicali, Mexico, is the WBO No. 7 featherweight contender. He recently moved up to featherweight after a successful run at junior featherweight that included a Mexican title and wins over three undefeated prospects. In 2017, he lost a tight decision to Mauricio Lara, who entered the title picture with his 2021 knockout over Josh Warrington. Following a disputed majority decision to Ra’eese Aleem last November, Baez moved up to featherweight. In March, he edged Jose Enrique Vivas by majority decision to earn a world ranking and a shot at the 126-pound king.

Santillan (29-0, 16 KOs) is a 10-year pro who has seen his career momentum take off since linking up with noted trainer Robert Garcia in 2020. Last October, he made his Pechanga Arena debut, bringing a raucous cheering section that watched him outfight Angel Ruiz over 10 action-packed rounds. He returned in April in Costa Mesa, California, and knocked out Jeovanis Barraza in seven rounds.

“I didn’t know when I’d be back fighting in San Diego, so when I heard the news, I was ecstatic. This shows we can continue having big cards in San Diego, and I can’t wait for all my fans to pack Pechanga Arena,” Santillan said. “I want a world title opportunity soon. That’s the dream. I’d love to fight for a world title, and defend my belt, in my hometown.”

Ali Walsh (5-0, 4 KOs) had no ring struggles until meeting Sanchez under the Madison Square Garden lights. After a dominant first two rounds, Sanchez rallied in the third and fourth to nearly pull even. In January, Ali Walsh got back on the knockout track with a second-round stoppage over Jeremiah Yeager. Three months later, on the Oscar Valdez-Shakur Stevenson undercard in Las Vegas, he sparked out Alejandro Ibarra in the opening round with a left-right combination. He enters the Sanchez fight with a new head trainer, Kay Koroma, who works with (among others) Stevenson, rising middleweight prospect Troy Isley, and female pound-for-pound star Mikaela Mayer. Sanchez (7-2, 3 KOs), from Topeka, Kansas, entered the first Ali Walsh fight with an unbeaten record built primarily in his home state. He is coming off a decision loss to unbeaten prospect Sharif Rahman, son of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman.

“Despite winning our last fight, I feel like I must set the record straight with Reyes Sanchez. He’s the only opponent I haven’t knocked out, and I don’t see the rematch going the distance,” Ali Walsh said. “Kay Koroma has already added so much to my arsenal, and I can’t wait to perform in front of the great San Diego fans and everyone watching on ESPN.”

Undercard action, streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+, includes an eight-round junior welterweight showdown between unbeaten Mexican standouts Lindolfo Delgado (15-0, 13 KOs) and Omar Aguilar (24-0, 23 KOs). Delgado represented Mexico at the 2016 Rio Olympics, while Aguilar has 15 first-round knockouts on his ledger and second-round stoppages in his last three bouts.

IBF No 1. featherweight contender Luis Alberto Lopez (25-2, 14 KOs) returns in an eight-rounder, while junior lightweight contender Xavier Martinez (17-1, 11 KOs) looks to bounce back from his first career loss against Alejandro Guerrero (12-2, 9 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

Split-T Management Fighters Trinidad Vargas and Mary Spencer Score Huge Knockouts

NEW YORK (JUNE 28, 2022)–Split-T Management fighters Trinidad Vargas and Mary Spencer scored big knockouts over the weekend.

Vargas made a memorable pro debut by stopping Josh Aarons in round two of their scheduled four-round super flyweight bout at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

Vargas hurt Aarons with a hard right hand that was followed by two lefts that sent Aarons to the canvas, and the bout was stopped at 2:31.

Vargas, who turned 19 last week, started boxing at age 6 and had his first fight at age 8.

That spawned the aforementioned amateur career that saw him become a 6x Junior Golden Gloves National Champion, Silver Gloves National Champion; 2017 Junior Open Champion; 2017 Western Regional Champion; 2017 Eastern Regional Champion; 2018 USA Junior Boxer of the Year; 2018 Junior Olympics Champion for which he won the Male Boxer of the Tournament; 2018 Eastern Regional Champion and Western Regional Champion.

Vargas’ great-grandfather was a professional boxer. In his spare-time, Vargas has an interest in cars, in particular JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) cars. He lists Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao as his favorite fighters and is also a fan of Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis.

He is trained by his father Nick Vargas and will debut as a super flyweight in the professional ranks.

Vargas is promoted by Teiken Promotions.

Thursday night in Montreal, Mary Spencer stopped Chris Namus in the opening round of their eight-round junior middleweight bout.

Spencer of Montreal was dominant as she scored an explosive stoppage for which she sent Namus down three-times, and the bout was stopped at 1:56.

Spencer is now 6-0 with four knockouts. Namus of Uruguay is 25-8.

Spencer is promoted by Eye of The Tiger Management.

JOSH KELLY OPPONENT CONFIRMED FOR NORTH EAST TAKEOVER LIVE ON CHANNEL 5

After the dismantling of Peter Kramer in Liverpool, Josh Kelly (11-1-1, 7 KOs) wastes no time in returning to action as he leads the North East takeover on July 30 in Newcastle. Live on Channel 5, Kelly faces one of the toughest challenges of his career when he faces ‘El Tornado’ Lucas Bastida (18-1-1, 10 KOs).

The calculated and methodical win for Kelly last time out showed the boxing intelligence of Sunderland’s ‘PBK’, but Bastida will be coming to provide a much sterner test at Super Welterweight. Having suffered defeat only once, the Argentine fighter will be coming to try and spoil the party in the main event.

It will be an eagerly contested fight, as both men hold similar records. Both fighters suffering one loss and one draw, as well as sharing around a 50% KO ratio too. Both men also in their twenties, with Kelly the more experienced at 28-years-old. It is the opportunity for two young and hungry fighters to steal the show on an electric Saturday July 30 event in Newcastle, and put themselves into contention for serious title honours.

“He is a tough South American who has plenty of experience for a fighter who is 25-years-old. To only have one loss on his record shows how tough he is, there’s no doubt he’ll be coming to win,” said Kelly.

“He’s someone who is going to give me the hard rounds I need to get back into the mix for big fights and major titles. It’s very much the same from me though – I’m coming to show my class and I’ll be looking to get him out, 100%.”

Argentine Bastida will be coming to conduct his own takeover as he’ll be looking to capitalise on a TKO win in a South American title bout in his last fight. He will also be confident in the fact he will be the taller fighter, as the 25-year-old stands at 6’1” and edges Kelly with 8 more rounds under his belt.

After analysing the career of Kelly, it is Bastida who believes he will come out on top having found what he believes to be is the winning formula for this fight.

“Josh Kelly has Olympic experience, he’s a good boxer and very fast. I saw in his fight against Avanesyan that he got knocked down, and then he got stopped, so I think the key to victory will be to go to war from the beginning of the fight,” said Bastida.

“For me this is my first fight abroad, I’m a warrior in life so I’ll be going to war as soon as the bell rings.”

Following the format of his nickname, “El Tornado” will be looking to arrive and cause as much destruction as possible before moving on. Kelly has stated before that he is back with vengeance, and will be happy to weather any condition that the Argentine throws his way.

It is guaranteed to be an unbelievable atmosphere at the Vertu Motors Arena, and the main event promises to blow the roof off when two warriors meet to mark one of these impressive records with a rare blemish.

A Super Lightweight showdown has been added to the card, with Harlem Eubank (14-0, 6KOs) squaring off against Tom ‘Fazza’ Farrell (21-5, 5 KOs). Both fighters will be brimming with confidence off the back of wins in their last bouts.

Farrell defeated a potential Nigerian nightmare in Olaide Fijabi at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool earlier this month, as he answered all the questions to outpoint his opponent in a hard-fought contest. Having come through the six-round fight, Farrell will be looking to call upon a similar approach to overcome an undefeated Harlem Eubank.

A second-round KO proved to be one of the highlights of the night in London on May 13 when Eubank caught his opponent flush to end the fight against Sean Dodd. The Brighton man continues heading in an upward trajectory in a professional career that is yet to taste defeat.

With each performance, Eubank continues to show his development and ever-growing intentions for bigger fights and bigger honours. The 28-year-old will now be looking for another statement win against a tough Farrell to put his name in contention for titles.

The big boys join the North East takeover also, as Hosea Stewart (2-0) faces Franklin Ignatius (3-0, 1 KO) in the Heavyweight division. Zero losses on each man’s record, and the ‘0’ has to go as two young fighters look to put their name in lights at the Vertu Motors Arena.

Stewart will be going in search of the first knockout win of his fledgling professional boxing career as the 24-year-old will be looking to steal the limelight at the North East takeover. Ignatius will be coming to grab headlines of his own and add another knockout to his undefeated record.

The North East takeover is coming as Josh Kelly (11-1-1, 7 KOs) Vs. Lucas Bastida (18-1-1, 10 KOs) headlines on an electric fight night, featuring Harlem Eubank (14-0, 6 KOs) as he continues his charge towards titles against Tom ‘Fazza’ Farrell (21-5, 5 KOs). DANNY GARCIA VS. JOSE BENAVIDEZ JR. VIRTUAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

BROOKLYN – June 28, 2022 – Two-division world champion and Brooklyn fan-favorite Danny “Swift” Garcia spoke of feeling reinvigorated from his time off while exciting contender Jose Benavidez Jr. predicted that their super welterweight showdown would be the “Fight of the Year” during a virtual press conference Tuesday before they square off on Saturday, July 30 live on SHOWTIME from Barclays Center in Brooklyn headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event. The fighters were joined by their respective fathers and trainers Angel Garcia and Jose Benavidez Sr. during the virtual press conference.

For the former super lightweight and welterweight champion Garcia, this fight marks his super welterweight debut as he looks to move into contention in the stacked weight division. Phoenix’s Benavidez, the older brother of unbeaten two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez, can add a signature victory with a win and launch himself into the 154-pound title picture.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and DSG Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through seatgeek.com and barclayscenter.com. Tickets are also available for purchase at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Tuesday:

DANNY GARCIA

“This is my 11th fight on SHOWTIME and it’s been a journey creating history at Barclays Center, or wherever we fight. I’ve been off for a little bit, but I’m back in the gym like I never left. I feel great mentally, physically and spiritually. I’m ready to give the fans a great fight.

“I have a lot of young guys in this camp here with me and they keep me on my toes. The hunger that they have, gives me that motivation. Boxing is a grueling sport, so you have to find time to have fun. I’m doing that again and I know that once I’m happy, no one can touch me.

“I’ve been fighting at 140 and 147 since the amateurs, for 13 years. I always felt my natural weight was bigger and I was squeezing down. I feel like this weight fits me good. I feel young and fresh. I’m strong and with a lot more stamina.

“I have a lot of Mexican fans and they love me wherever I go. The Latinos love me period. When Danny Garcia steps in the ring, he represents all the Latinos. I love all the fans from all around the world.

“I’m going to go in there and fight my fight. I’m not putting any extra pressure on myself. I’m going to fight the Danny Garcia fight. I have to use all my tools and all my skills and get the win.

“I felt the atmosphere at Barclays Center at the Gervonta Davis fight and I felt what I was missing. I went there to feel that motivation and it was great. We’re going to give everyone a great night just like at that last fight.

“I was in the first main event at Barclays Center and I’ve been building a fanbase there over the last 10 years. Brooklyn is the perfect place to build a fanbase and I’m honored to be a part of Barclays Center’s history.

“I’ve been fighting at the highest level for the last 10 years. It’s only right as a human that you would get a little mentally tired. I needed a break so that I could miss boxing. I knew that once I came back in the gym motivated and missing the sport, that nobody could beat Danny Garcia.

“You can’t just fight to learn. You have to watch and see these young guys in the gym training. I needed time to feel good again and I feel great. The results are looking really good. When I’m happy, I’m a dangerous man.

“Every fight you learn from. Even when you win. You just have to take what you can, learn from it and use it in the next fight. The fight with Errol Spence Jr. was a competitive and fun fight and we’re ready to move on to the next step.”

JOSE BENAVIDEZ JR.

“A win over Danny Garcia is a big step for me. The winner of this fight is going to go back up in the rankings. We’ve both lost before and I think that’s made us stronger fighters. We’ve learned from our mistakes. We’re going to be throwing bombs all night long. Stay tuned, because this is going to be Fight of the Year, I guarantee that.

“I want to thank Danny for giving me this opportunity. He’s a great champion, a power-puncher and I’m ready. I’ve been training hard and I’m ready to get it on.

“I take every fight as if I’m fighting the best of the best. I don’t focus on the record or anything. I just focus on what I have to do. The Puerto Rican and Mexican fans are going to be out there and it’s going to be a great show. I’m training hard and I’d be ready to go tomorrow.

“Danny Garcia is one of the best of the best. I felt like Danny Garcia was a bigger name than a possible Erislandy Lara fight, so that’s why I chose him. I grew up watching Danny and I’ve wanted to fight him for a while. This is going to be fireworks.

“I was too focused on trying to knock the guy out in my last fight. I just have to stick to my game plan and do what I do best. I feel a lot stronger and more mature now. The knockout is going to come on its own. I’m going to do whatever I have to do to end the night victorious.

“My last opponent was just running and running, and I’m looking forward to going toe-to-toe with Danny. I’m staying in shape and I’m focused. I hit hard, he hits hard, so there’s going to be a knockout whether we look for it or not.

“I want to fight the best of the best. I don’t duck or dodge anyone. I don’t care about the record. I train to win. This is an interesting fight with Danny and it’s a fight the fans are going to want to see. Danny was the perfect pick for this opponent.

“I know what I’m capable of and I know what I can do. The most important thing is staying focused in training. I feel like this is the most motivated I’ve been since the beginning of my career. I’m working hard for my daughters. It’s not about me anymore.”

ANGEL GARCIA, Danny’s Father and Trainer

“Danny is perfect for 154 pounds. It’s a new era for him and it’s time. There’s a time for everything and our time is now. We have a perfect opponent who’s going to come bring the fight to us. He’s got the Mexican blood and we’ve got the Puerto Rican blood, so it’s going to be fireworks on July 30.

“Danny is ready for 154. He’s ready for all the big names. We don’t run from anybody. A lot of those fighters talk a lot, well now we’re here for them.

“Pay your bill and lock in to SHOWTIME on July 30. We’re going to give everyone a show. If not, make it out to Barclays Center, because it doesn’t get any better than big fights in Brooklyn.”

JOSE BENAVIDEZ SR., Jose’s Father and Trainer

“It’s an honor to go up against Danny Garcia and his dad. He’s one of my favorite fighters, but at the end of the day, we have to put work in. We’ve been working hard, because we’re going to give the fans what they want. I’m predicting a knockout. We need a knockout to progress in the rankings. Jose has to not just win the fight, but he has to look impressive. Both fighters need this fight.

“Danny has a great left hook and he’s very powerful. We’ve seen what he’s done and we know what we’re getting into. We’re facing an animal, but we’re ready to give the people what they want.

“Jose Jr. has matured a lot and he’s ready. He’s motivated to give his kids a better life. When I see how motivated Jr. is, it motivates me too. We’re ready to give everyone what they want. Someone is getting knocked out.

“I know Danny is coming in very strong, but we’re giving the fans what they deserve. We’re aiming to give everyone the Fight of the Year. We have to be impressive. I know the Garcias are training very hard, but we need this fight. We have to give it our all.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, President of SHOWTIME SPORTS

“We’re thrilled to welcome Danny Garcia back to SHOWTIME, as well as Jose Benavidez Jr. These are two all-action fighters bringing a great matchup of styles to this bout.

“For SHOWTIME and Danny, this is a bit of a throwback. It was almost 10 years ago in October 2012 when Danny headlined the first fight card at Barclays Center and headlined his first time on SHOWTIME. It’s not an exaggeration to say that he’s been instrumental in helping Barclays Center build the profile that they have and establish it as a real home of boxing on the East Coast.

“Danny is one of the most exciting and popular fighters of his generation. He’s fought everyone and anyone. His resume speaks for itself. True to form, in his first fight at 154-pounds, he was not looking for an easy fight. And he has a very worthy challenger in front of him in Jose Benavidez Jr.

“Benavidez is a tough, experienced fighter with a lot of experience and a lot of KOs. He’s going to bring a fan-friendly style. These are two exciting fighters who can do it all. With these styles and the intensity that they bring, this is going to be one of the most exciting fights of the summer.

“These fighters are both trained skillfully by their fathers, with Angel and Jose Sr. having guided their sons their whole careers. Add in Adam Kownacki and Gary Antuanne Russell on the SHOWTIME televised card and this will be a night full of action and worthy of the high standard SHOWTIME and Barclays Center have set.”

MONTREAL (June 27, 2022) – World Boxing Council (WBC) No. 1 contender Kim Clavel (15-0, 3 KOs) will finally face WBC Flyweight World Champion Yesenia Gomez (19-5-3, 6 KOs), who will defend her world title belt for the fifth time, on Friday, July 29, at the Cabaret of Montreal Casino, headlining “IRRESISTIBLES,” co-promoted by Groupe Yvon Michelle (GYM)/ Probellum, presented by Mise-O-Jeu.

Gomez vs. Clavel has been postponed three times, which has naturally increased tensions between the two fighters, based on their social media posts. The fight was always considered potentially spectacular and intense, but now their emotions are peaking with both accusing the  other for having delayed the confrontation.

Brilliantly talented Probellum representative, Artur “The Chechen Wolf” Biyarslanov (10-0, 8 KOs), will be showcased in the co-featured event on this prestigious evening. A 2015 Pan American Games gold medalist in Toronto, as well as a Canadian representative at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Biyarslanov plans to add a third consecutive knockout to his record against Burkina Faso-native Issouf Kinda (18-5, 7KO), fighting out of the Bronx (NY).

Montreal favorite Caroline Veyre will make her long anticipated professional debut after her remarkable amateur career. A pillar of the Canadian boxing team since 2013, Caroline captured gold at the 2015 Pan American Games, and she represented Canada at the 2020 Tokyo 2020. Veyre has everything to become a big star of international pro boxing.

“IRRESISTIBLES” will also be an opportunity to appreciate several young and talented boxers who represent the future of Canadian boxing. Kickboxing superstar Jonathan Di Bella (1-0, 0 KOs) will be in his second pro boxing match against Mexican Jesus Velazquez (3-2, 2 KOs). Gifted  Eric Basran, of Vancouver (2-0, 1 KO), will meet Mexican challenger Juan Carlos Garcia (4-2, 0 KOs), and young Montrealer Derek Pomerleau (2-0, 2 KOs) will be fighting for his third straight  KO versus his Mexican opponent, Marcos Luna (1-1, 0 KOs).

Clavel competed in her last international competition in 2017 as a member of Canada’s National Team in Honduras. In her first world championship fight on July 29th, she will be surrounded by three boxers who were her teammates at that same time. Biyarslanov, Basran and Veyre also wore Canadian colors at this tournament, additional evidence of the exceptional talent in the GYM.

JESSE RODRIGUEZ EXTENDS PROMOTIONAL DEAL WITH MATCHROOM

Jesse Rodriguez has signed an extension to his long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.

Rodriguez put pen to paper following his sensational stoppage win over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at the Tech Port Arena in his San Antonio hometown on Saturday night; thrilling his home crowd with an imperious performance from opening bell to the blistering barrage that ended matters in the eighth round.

The 22 year old phenom was crowned the youngest World champion in the sport in February when he landed the WBC strap as a late replacement in San Diego against Mexican king Carlos Cuadras and fighting at home for the first time in four years, and that victory, coupled with his destruction of Thai legend Rungvisai, puts ‘Bam’ firmly in the early discussion for fighter of the year – and he’s ready to push on and collect more titles in the second half of the year.

“I am delighted to sign with Eddie and Matchroom and so excited for the future,” said Rodriguez. “Last night was the best night of my career so far, beating a great fighter like Rungvisai in my hometown – but it’s only the beginning and there’s so much more that I can achieve.

“I was so happy because there was a lot of people doubting me before last night saying that I shouldn’t be at 115lbs and that Rungvisai was going to KO me. So, for me to stop him, that’s a big statement. He has boxed the very best at Super-Flyweight and has not been stopped since his first two fights so that says a lot about me.

“I knew I could stop him, I said so in the build-up so to do it, I’m very happy. He packs a punch, I knew that and I could feel it, so I was glad to get him out of there.

“We will talk as a team, but I want to keep coming home to San Antonio. I hope everyone that came enjoyed the show, it means everything to me for my city to show out.

“The plan has been to go to 112lbs and win a title there but I’m open to fighting anyone, I want to keep improving and fighting the best. Every fighter wants to be on that pound-for-pound list, and you get there by fighting the best and beating them.”

“I am very happy to extend our promotional contract with Eddie and Matchroom,” said trainer and manager Robert Garcia. “Mr Honda’s Teiken Promotions and Matchroom together have done a great job.

“I want to thank Mr. Honda for being there since day one and believing in Jesse’s abilities. I also want to thank Eddie and Matchroom for believing in Jesse and giving us the opportunity to showcase Jesse’s talent. Together we are going to do great things with Bam.”

“I am delighted to see Jesse commit his future to Matchroom and DAZN,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “As I said in the ring last night – superstar. That’s all you need to know about this kid – he is a must-watch talent and that’s live in person or live on DAZN, you have to watch him perform.

“The options for Jesse are endless from 108lbs to 115lbs, and with Matchroom and Robert Garcia behind him, we’re going to be able to showcase this sensational fighter on the biggest platforms.

“Last night he had his hometown fans on their feet, and we want him to grow into a massive star on his own doorstep, but make no mistake, this young man will grow into a star attraction that all of America will get behind.”

King’s Promotions adds International Boxing Hall of Famer Christy Martin as Director of Operations

Reading, PA (June 27, 2020)–King’s Promotions is pleased and excited to announce the addition of International Boxing Hall of Famer, trailblazer and boxing icon Christy Martin as the new Director of Operations for the noted promotional company.

“This is a huge addition for King’s Promotions. Christy Martin will add so much to what we have built at King’s Promotions. What Christy brings to the table is endless in what she has done in the sport of boxing both in and out of the ring. In her role, Christy will help with all aspects relating to the boxing end of things, such as helping us identify and sign talent, matchmaking, day-to-day operations and mentorship to all of our fighters. Especially with our talented female fighters such as WBC Super Featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner, Danielle Perkins and undefeated flyweight Leanna Cruz. Also, Christy has established herself as a top promoter in her own right, so we will have access to some of the fighters that she works with, and that will make our roster that much stronger and deeper,” said Marshall Kauffman, CEO of King’s Promotions.

“I am honored to work with Marshall and Kings Promotions. This is a great opportunity for not only me, but for some of the fighters that I have been working with. My company, Christy Martin Promotions will sit idle as I am 100 percent on board with King’s Promotions. Marshall is one of the few promoters that gives female fighters a platform. Hopefully my presence will help inspire not only the great fighters like Alycia, Danielle and Leanna, but all of the fighters under the King’s banner. I have had the ups and downs in my career and personal life, so I feel that I can mentor these young athletes. I have always wanted to stay involved with the sport, and now to join King’s, I can do it at a higher level, and in the process I can take some of the load off of Marshall, and be his right hand,” said Martin.

The first superstar of female boxing, Martin was a 2020 inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, but due the Covid-19 Pandemic, she was enshrined in 2022.

Martin currently has an outstanding book about her life on-sale, which was co-written by renowned writer, Ron Borges

After a slick stoppage win over Peter Kramer, watched by over 1 million viewers on Channel 5, Sunderland boxer Kelly continues his World Title pursuit as he leads a line up showcasing some of the North East’s brightest boxing prospects.

Following a long period out, the elation was clear for Kelly as he impressed on his terrestrial television debut, making light work of his Hungarian opponent at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

“It was great to be back doing what I love again,” said Kelly. “I was happy to be able to show my power and precision against a strong tough durable 154lb opponent.”

Both Super Welterweight and Welterweight divisions are now on notice as ‘PBK’ rebuilds momentum towards the top, with his sights set on big fights at either weight, starting with a North East homecoming in Newcastle.

“It’s exciting times – going back up to the North East and being able to be busy again is exactly what I want,” he said.

“Staying active and producing more of the same is the main thing now, I’m hungry for more.”

Joining Kelly in action will be former Geordie Shore star and MMA fighter Chalmers (1-0) as he looks to build on the experiences of coming through his first professional bout live on Channel 5 on June 17 in Liverpool.

“I’m happy with my debut. I thought I handled the pressure and remained calm,” said Chalmers. “I feel like I can still do better. I could have had a higher output in the fight and be a lot more aggressive.”

Chalmers will bring with him a huge following as he makes his second pro fight in his beloved hometown of Newcastle. With the cobwebs dusted off, and the pressure of his debut handled with, it is an ideal opportunity for Chalmers to put on a performance and claim a win in front of his jubilant support.

“I’m looking forward to fighting in Newcastle, it’s my hometown. I’ve fought there twice before and we’ve managed to sell the place out, the volume was immense and the place was absolutely electric.

“The fans can expect more aggression from me in this fight,” he adds. “I was a little hasty on my debut, but a calculated and aggressive fighter is what to expect. I don’t come to go the distance, and if I can get a knockout win in Newcastle I know I’ll blow the roof of the place.”

With crossover star Aaron Chalmers joining the party, no stone will be left unturned as these guys put everything on the line to get the home-crowd roaring. I cannot wait.”

“Road 2 Stardom” pro boxing results from Massachusetts

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (June 26, 2022) – The first doubleheader in Massachusetts’ long professional boxing history, “Road 2 Stardom”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, was a major success last night, at Sheraton Hotel in Framingham, Massachusetts.

All the action was streamed live and exclusively on BXNGTV.com.

“I’m very happy with our show,” Granite Chin president Chris Traietti said. “Any chance to have my guys fighting on the same card, I jump on it. I’m one of most innovative promoters in New England. I like to do different things. Any company needs to evolve and be creative. We experienced doubleheaders in New Hampshire and brought it here (Mass.). It’s very likely that you’ll see Granite Chin doubleheaders on a regular basis. I’m setting the standard!”

In the evening card’s main event, rising welterweight prospect Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (8-0, 6 KOs) methodically and thoroughly outboxed upset-minded Maycon Oller Da Silva on his way to career win No. 9 without a loss, by way of a one-sided 6-round decision (59-54 X 3).

After a “feeling out” first round, Whitley came out in the second controlling the pace, landing some sweet combinations on his much taller opponent’s head and body. Whitley showed his high ring IQ, poise and solid all-around skills in the third as he started breaking down Silva, who had been dropped only seconds before the end of the second round by a sneaky right. Whitley’s dominance continued, whether he counter punched or led, right to the end of the fight. Whitley, who was unmarked, won all six rounds on the three judges’ scorecards.

Billed as a potential Fight of the Night, the co-featured event more than lived up to its pre-fight billing, as Bryan “Mex” Urday (2-1, 0 KOs) and “Nasty” Nate Balakin (3-1, 1 KO) stood toe-to-toe in the middle of the ring, trading punishing shots from the opening bell to the end. Urday seemed to take control in the fourth when he clipped Balakin with an overhand right that temporarily turned the tide, but the equally tough Balakin came back strong in the same frame.

The back-and-forth momentum continued as both fighters left everything in the ring, somehow neither fighter showing signs of tiring, and Urday was awarded a 6-round unanimous decision (59-55, 58-56 X 2) for the vacant Massachusetts Welterweight Championship.

(L-R) Nate Balakin and new Mas. Welterweight champion Bryan Urday were in the Fight of the Night

Constantly developing welterweight Josniel “TG” Castro (9-0, 7 KOs) blasted out Bryan Goldsby (5-17) in the opening round, hurting Goldsby with each punch he connected with until he ended the bout a little more than one minute into round one. Goldsby landed on the mat and referee Tom Clark had seen enough.

Welterweight Nicholas “Saint Nick” Molina (10-0, 4 KOs) kept his unblemished record intact with a stunning second-round stoppage of Argentinian Jose “El Chino” Aubel (8-11, 7 KOs). Aubel started clowning around in the ring and Molina made him pay for it almost immediately, snapping a straight right that sent Aubel to the canvas. Referee Melissa Kelley stopped the fight after looking in Aubel’s eyes.

2020 New England Golden Gloves Champion David Ribeiro (1-0, 1 KO) had an impressive pro debut, dropping welterweight Rakim Johnson four times en route to a second-round technical knockout. Fighting out of the City of Champions, Brockton (MA), Ribeiro displayed his full arsenal, effectively using both hands from various angles to deck Johnson three times in the opening round, once in the second, after which referee Tom Clark waved off the fight.

In a rematch of a fight last November, Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (4-2, 2 KOs) avenged a loss by 4-round split decision, taking a 6-round unanimous decision in a very competitive match. Neither fighter was hurt in a fight that was difficult to score due to its on-and-off action.

The first fight of the evening card produced an upset as DeWayne Wisdom (8-61, 3 KOs) won for the first time since 2017, snapping a 25-fight losing streak, by stopping junior middleweight Rob “The Golden Child” Nolette (1-2, 1 KO) in the second round. Wisdom caught Nolette with a good right and Nolette hit the deck as referee Clark halted the fight.

Sumpter brothers shine on matinee card

Steve Sumpter (R) headlined his first show yesterday

Fighting in his first main event, as well as his first scheduled 8-rounder, super middleweight Steve Sumpter (6-0, 6 KOs) needed rounds but opponent Manny “Shake Em’ Up” Woods (17-17-1, 6 KOs) didn’t cooperate as Sumpter took Woods’ soul with some masterful boxing and power punching. Woods went down twice in the second, once in the third, and referee Paul Casey ended the fight in the fourth with Sumpter pounding Woods on the ropes.

Hometown favorite Raphael Torres (1-0, 1 KO), fighting out of Framingham, destroyed cruiserweight Igor Pessoa (0-2) in the co-featured event. Torres damaged Pessoa with a strong right to the temple, putting him on the canvas, and Pessoa never really recovered. Seconds later, Torres connected with a right to the top of the head, Pessoa went down again, and counted out midway through the opening round.

Cruiserweight Scott “Bombz” Lampert (3-5, 2 KOs) spotted his opponent Drew “Hard Body” Nolan (0-5) 14 pounds, but their weight disparity didn’t matter as Lampert won a 4-round unanimous decision in an old-fashioned brawl.

Florida light heavyweight Carlos Arredondo (3-0, 3 KOs) pounded Michael Medeiros (0-2), who hit the deck from an overhand right that put Medeiros down in round one, and out for good in round two for a technical knockout.

Undefeated Gabriel “Menace” Morales (4-0, 2 KOs) certainly lived up to his nickname, throwing crisp combinations in bunches against Issac Haynes (0-2). Sixteen unanswered punches, mostly to the body, nearly ended the fight in the opening round, but Haynes survived, at least until the following round, in which Morales landed six head shots resulting in referee Casey jumping in to stop the fight.

Heavyweight hopeful Quintin Sumpter (5-0, 4 KOs) – Steve’s older brother – outclassed journeyman Tracey “The Titan” Johnson (4-11-6, 0 KOs), dropping Johnson with a right hook at the end of round one. Sumpter broke through Johnson’s high peekaboo-like defense and in the fourth round of this entertaining bout, Sumpter blasted Johnson with a powerful right that hurt Johnson and referee Marcel Varela immediately waved off the fight for a 2nd round TKO victory for the continually improving Sumpter.

Flying out his corner like he was shot out of a cannon, junior middleweight Luke Iannuccilli (2-0, 2 KOs) fired punches from all angles, trapping Robert Bricks (0-11) on the ropes right off the opening bell, unloading a barrage of sizzling, rapid-fire punches until Bricks moved. But Iannuccilli caught him on the ropes again, connecting with some badly intended punches, until Bricks took a knee. Referee Ryan halted the bout at the 56-second mark of round one when he didn’t like how Bricks responded for a technical knockout.

Junior middleweight Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (3-2, 1 KO) opened the doubleheader with a 4-round unanimous decision over veteran Rynell Griffin (8-53-2, 2 KOs) in a spirited fight between dueling southpaws.

ADAM AZIM SCORES SECOND CONSECUTIVE 1ST-ROUND STOPPAGE TO CLAIM FIRST PROFESSIONAL TITLE AND CONTINUE ASTRONOMIC RISE

Coventry, England – 25th June 2022 – 20-year-old lightweight sensation Adam ‘The Assassin’ Azim took another victory in the very first round with his TKO victory over skillful opposition in Anthony Loffet.

Azim floored Loffet within 35 seconds of the very first bell, after a series of inch-perfect 1-2 combinations, before piling on the pressure with powerful shots and forcing Loffet’s corner to throw in the towel, just 1 minute and 6 seconds into the first round, claiming the WBC Youth Intercontinental Super-Lightweight Championship.

The Assassin has put the public on notice with this stunning stoppage, while also headlining the first card of his career in only his 5th professional fight.

Shane Mcguigan’s claim that Azim is:”the greatest talent he’s ever trained,” is being proved correct and the young showstopper will be hungry to get in the ring again after two stunningly fast victories in his most recent fights.

Adam Azim has now cemented himself as one of the most exciting, talked-about prospects in boxing, and looks to have the potential to reach World Championship glory in his professional-boxing career. There will be a huge number of people watching his career with interest after tonight’s perfect performance.

Sam Eggington def. Przemys?aw Zysk UD 12/12 (119-109, 119-109, 117-111)

Multi-time Fight Of The Year winner Sam Eggington took a clear decision victory over the undefeated Przemys?aw Zysk to win the IBO Super Welterweight Championship.

Eggington pushed hard in the early rounds of the fight to find a way to stop Zysk, landing devastating combinations across the first four rounds of the fight. Eggington looked set for an early night and a stoppage victory but Zysk showed tremendous grit and determination to survive Eggington’s destructive onslaught.

Eggington used his boxing skill in the second half of the fight to win every single round of the final six. Allowing the new IBO World Champion to dominate the all three judges’ scorecards and claim victory. Zysk fought valiantly across all 12 rounds, despite the huge punishment taken early on in the fight, and made all of the last six rounds competitive.

Sam Eggington always leaves the crowd going home happy with his aggressive, hell-for-leather fight style, and did so again tonight with this fluid, intelligent performance. Eggington’s status as IBO Champion may be the key to earning even bigger fights soon.

Dylan Cheema def. Stu Greener PTS 4/4 (39-37)

Coventry’s own Dylan Cheema took a successful first victory among his passionate supporters since his victory at the BOXXER Series in April, moving his professional record to 6-0. Cheema outworked and outbattled a tough, game opponent in Stu Greener, who made the Sikh star fight hard for his victory.

Cheema once again had huge support in the Coventry Skydome from his zealous supporters, with his proud membership of the Punjabi Sikh community attracting followers from across Coventry and across the country.

‘The Natural’ signed with BOXXER after his BOXXER Series victory and will continue to build his young career to the very top of the Lightweight division across BOXXER shows in future.

Karriss Artingstall def. Vaida Masiokaite PTS 6/6 (60-54)

Olympic Bronze medalist and special female Featherweight talent Karriss Artingstall made a successful professional debut that saw her take a shutout victory on the referee’s scorecard over an experienced opponent who’d been in the ring with top talent like Natasha Jonas and Caroline Dubois.

Artingstall didn’t put a foot or a punch wrong across the six rounds of the fight, landing stiff shots and fast combinations from the first to the last bell, dominating her opponent.

The Tokyo 2020 medalist has now experienced a professional fight, without the head guards of amateur boxing, and experienced the process of a professional fight week. She now looks set to soar through the ranks of women’s boxing at 126lbs and find World Championship glory very soon.

Tyler Denny def. River Wilson Bent SD 10/10 (97-93, 96-93, 94-96)

The Coventry Skydome came alive for this 10 round war between passionate rivals Tyler Denny and River Wilson-Bent, whose bad blood only built between this fight and their first that ended in a controversial draw.

Tyler Denny left no question in the minds of the public after this fight however, taking the victory in this close, explosive fight via a split decision on the judge’s scorecards. Tyler Denny can now proudly call himself the English Middleweight Champion.

Denny consistently landed the more damaging shots across the fight, but was especially able to pin Wilson-Bent down in the first half of the fight. River Wilson-Bent had success across the fight, and every single round was competitive, but Tyler Denny took victory, handing Wilson-Bent the first loss of his professional career.

The fight lived up to the expectations that built around it during the fiery exchanges between both men in the lead-up to the competition, and the 10th and final round especially electrifying the crowd and the viewing public, as both men gave absolutely everything until the final bell.

Cori Gibbs def. Carlos Perez PTS 8/8 (79-73)

Former BOXXER Series winner Cori Gibbs returned to the ring for the first time since that tournament victory last November to extend his perfect record to 17-0. Gibbs produced a strong performance against high-quality opposition in Carlos Perez, who came into this fight with a strong winning record and was undefeated in his last four fights. Gibbs won all but one round on the referee’s scorecard and shook off any signs of ringrust after his recent layoff within seconds of the first bell ringing, landing fast combinations while making sure to receive little in return throughout the fight.

Gibbs will now look forward to more impressive fights under the BOXXER banner, first looking to step up to even stronger opposition and challenge for domestic titles against the best Super Lightweights in the UK.

Kaisee Benjamin def. Serge Ambomo PTS 6/6 (60-55)

Former Midlands Area Welterweight Champion Kaisee Benjamin gave a measured, intelligent performance in his six-round victory over a highly experienced opponent in Serge Ambomo. This performance sets Benjamin up well for big fights in future and ended a period of over half a year out of the ring.

Shakiel Thompson def. Bartosz Glowacki PTS 6/6 (60-54)

Tall, powerful Middleweight, and new BOXXER signee, Shakiel Thompson convincingly won every single round in his fight with dangerous opposition in Bartosz Glowacki, who had won four of his career victories by stoppage.

Thompson used his natural size and range to dominate the fight on the outside, but also showed the grit and skill to land shots from closer ranges, doing serious damage to Glowacki when he did.

Thompson now looks on to better opposition and exciting opportunities in his new partnership with BOXXER.

Aaron McKenna def. David Benitez TKO 7/8 1:40

Ireland’s Aaron McKenna proved once again why he is one of the hottest prospects in world boxing by moving to 15-0 as a professional at only 22 years of age. Mckenna consistently outclassed his opponent across the first six rounds, and produced a whirlwind of powerful shots to force the stoppage victory, becoming the only man to stop Benitez across his 15 professional bouts.

Scott Forrest def. Toni Visic TKO 4/6 1:35

Powerful Cruiserweight and former Team GB amatuer star Scott Forrest took another devastating stoppage victory in only the second fight of his career, moving to 2-0.

Visic’s corner was forced to throw in the towel in the 4th round after a brutal right hand from Forrest sent him tumbling to the canvas. Forrest has already shown serious boxing skill and fierce punch-power in these first two fights, and looks set to continue to do so in future.

Up-and-coming Reyes outworks Hall of Famer Clampitt for upset victory Friday in main event of Summer Splash at Ballys Twin River live on BXNG TV

Lincoln, RI – With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Texas’ Miranda Reyes earned the biggest win of her young career.

The 20-year-old Reyes (6-1-1) upset four-time world champion and International Women’s Boxing Hall of Famer Jaime “Hurricane” Clampitt Friday night live on BXNG TV at Ballys Twin River Lincoln Casino Resort in the main event of CES Boxing’s Summer Splash, the promotion’s first event at Ballys since 2019.

Despite being 26 years younger than Clampitt (23-6-2) with only six pro fights under her belt entering the weekend, Reyes was the aggressor Friday, rebounding from her first career loss in February with a 79-73, 78-74, 78-74 win.

Clampitt, who came out of retirement last summer, lost for the first time since 2010, a defeat at the hands of Holly Holm in Albuquerque. The Saskatchewan native and Warwick, RI, resident entered Friday four months removed from a win over regional rival Kim Wabik in February, but the young, hungry Reyes presented a much different challenge.

While Wabik was more of a defensive fighter looking for an opportunity to counterpunch, Reyes came out swinging from the opening bell, applying pressure to Clampitt and landed the more damaging punches between the two. Clampitt found her footing in the middle rounds, but her output simply could not match Reyes; the 20-year-old prospect continued to land the cleaner blows on a consistent basis, earning the win decisively on all three scorecards.

In the co-main event, hard-hitting Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano (20-4, 18 KOs) earned his first win since November of 2020 and his milestone 20th victory, stopping Brazilian veteran Irineu Beato Costa Junior (19-12) at the 1:20 mark of the opening round of their scheduled eigh-round bout.

Friday’s win was especially important for Cusumano, who suffered a tough loss to Daniel Dubois in August, prompting him to move his entire training camp to New England, finding a new home at Champs Boxing & Fitness in Danbury, CT. A leaner, more determined Cusumano made quick of Costa, flattening his opponent with his trademark overhand right, his 10th win under the guidance of CES since signing with the promotion in 2017; Cusumano has now won as many fights in five years with CES as he did in the first seven years of his pro career.

Making his Ballys debut, Weymouth, MA, super middleweight Francis Hogan (11-0) faced a tall order in a six-round showdown against Brazilian Rodrigo Lopes Rodrigues (8-3), but cruised to 60-54 unanimous decision win, going the distance for the first time in his pro career.

The 6-foot-2 southpaw, fighting for the first time signing a long-term promotional agreement with CES, Hogan stayed busy from the first to final bell, out-working the hard-nosed Rodrigues, who continued to press forward despite the ferocity of Hogan’s jab and looping left hands. Rodrigues had his moments, but Hogan weathered every storm to earn his 11th victory in just under two-and-a-half years since turning pro.

The knockout of the night belonged to rising super featherweight prospect Alejandro Paulino (10-0, 9 KOs), who entered the ring at 130 pounds – the lowest weight of his career – and looked as dangerous as ever, stopping Brazilian challenger Aldimar Silva (22-20) at 54 seconds of the opening round of their scheduled six-round bout.

Paulino went the distance in his previous fight, surviving a knockdown to beat Andrew Rodgers, but wasted no time disposing of Silva, beating fellow Big Six Boxing Academy stablemate James Maner by one second for the fastest knockout of the night. Maner, the 6-foot-3 southpaw middleweight from Providence, RI, flatted Dan Bunyan (0-2) of New York in 55 seconds in the event’s opening bout.

Other Summer Splash results included:Stoughton, MA, heavyweight Sean Bey (6-0, 6 KOs), also fighting out of Big Six, remained unbeaten with a second-round knockout win over Mexican Elder Hernandez Gama (5-4) at the 1:04 mark
Taking the fight on just 24 hours’ notice, Boston, MA, lightweight Jonathan de Pina (8-1) outworked Argentinian Mario Lozano (18-7-1) via unanimous decision 60-54, 60-54, 59-55. Lozano was originally scheduled to face Kevin Walsh, who was forced to withdraw due to injury, and de Pina was originally scheduled to fight Friday in Mexico, but his felt fell through earlier in the week.

I was so pumped I went out and stopped my opponent Jose Luis Estevan in the 5th round who was the local favorite. The crowd was great, and I remember walking through the crowd and giving them high fives on the way out. It was my first great experience fighting in a historic city of legendary fights.” – James Toney
