PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES CRAWFORD & PORTER PRIMED FOR NOVEMBER 20 LAS VEGAS SHOWDOWN LIVE on ESPN+ PPV

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 9, 2021) — The longtime WBO welterweight king and pound-for-pound star, Terence Crawford, finally has the super fight he craves. Enter Shawn Porter, the two-time champion who has fought most of this generation’s elite welterweights.

Crawford and Porter will fight Saturday, Nov. 20 at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The two met face-to-face Saturday for a kickoff press conference, alongside their respective trainers and promoters.

Presented by Top Rank and TGB Promotions, Crawford-Porter will be a Top Rank PPV exclusively on ESPN+ in the United States at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Tickets can be purchased by visiting AXS.com.

This is what the fighters and their teams had to say Saturday in Las Vegas.

TERENCE CRAWFORD
“We always have had a good relationship ever since the amateur days. There has never been any bad blood. It’s always been all love, but come November 20, we step on him.

“It’s put up or shut up. In my eyes, I can stand up and pull my shirt out and I can really show this 8-pack I got because you know I stay working. I stay working. That is nothing new to me, and it isn’t anything new to you. You know what you are up against on November 20. I know what I’m against on November 20.

“We are going to give the fans a great night of boxing. It will be fireworks from the first bell to bell 12 if you last that long.

“Unlike other fighters that you fought, I’m different. I believe you know that I’m different. The more you push, the more I will push. You hit me hard, and l will hit you even harder if you can last. That’s what makes this fight a great fight.

“A dominating win against Porter will boost my status as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

“Everybody is excited. My family, my friends, my supporters have been dying to be at a live event and this will be the first time in a long time where they can see Terence Crawford live in action. Everybody is hungry for it, just like I have been dying to get in the ring. The time is now. I’m going to give everyone what they have been asking for.”

SHAWN PORTER
“When I get in the ring, I command the ring. When I get in a room, I command the room.

“I believe this fight is happening right on time. There’s no secret that there is a lot of respect between me and Terence.

“We can talk all about resumes, but when I look at his resume, nobody that has been in the ring with him, knows him as I know him. The best of Terence Crawford will bring out the best of Shawn Porter. What I do know is November 20 is a big day for boxing and it will be a big day for Team Porter.

“I’m sure I’m on the brink of getting into the Hall of Fame. For me, it’s not only win or go home. It’s win, or nothing else. My life right now it’s all about beating and dominating Crawford. My legacy will depend on beating Terence Crawford.

“He is a dominant fighter. Everyone he gets in the ring with, he dominates. I want to be the one fighter that he can’t dominate. Everything that is required to beat Terence, I got it. It’s time to take on this challenge.

“On November 20, the energy will be great. Fight night will be unlike no other. This will be the crazy energy you ever felt and I’m looking forward to it.”

BOB ARUM, Top Rank Chairman
“I want to thank Tom Brown for his cooperation. With the companies that we represent cooperating, it will only be good for boxing, and we can do bigger and better matches.

“Terence Crawford is the only unified champion sitting on this stage. He unified the 140-pound division, and maybe the reason he hasn’t fought other top welterweights, it’s because you guys were hiding them because you didn’t want to put them in with Terence.”

TOM BROWN, TGB Promotions President
“This really is a tremendous fight. I want to congratulate Top Rank for putting this great fight together.

“This is the kind of fight that both the fans and the media have asked for and we were able to deliver it.

“Terence Crawford is a great fighter, and he has fought great fighters, but this guy (Porter) right here is on a whole other level. Shawn Porter is one of the best welterweights in the world, but also one of the best fighters in the sport.”

BRIAN MCINTYRE, Crawford’s Trainer
“On paper, this is the toughest fight of Terence’s career, but we will not know until we actually get in the ring. As a trainer, I want this to be the toughest fight for Terence because you are going to see a better Terence Crawford. The better the fighter, the better that Terence is.

“Something about this camp is very special. We ready. You can’t bring random sparring partners when you are facing someone like Porter. We have to search the world for the best of the best.”

KENNY PORTER, Shawn Porter’s Trainer
“You can’t beat this type of caliber fighter fighting the way you always fought. You have to change everything. You have to be better. Shawn has been away training in the mountains. Secluded. Just himself and God.

“BoMac is a great trainer. Terence is an excellent fighter. We have an enormous amount of respect for him and his team. Every day I’m trying to figure out and see what we can do better. You must change. You must be better when you are facing a fighter of his caliber.”

QUEENSBERRY SIGN EUROPEAN CHAMPION DAVID AVANESYAN

EUROPEAN Welterweight champion David Avanesyan has signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Queensberry.

Newark based Russian Avanesyan has been sensational in European title defences against Britain’s best this year.

The former WBA World champion hammered Josh Kelly in six rounds in February and last weekend took just two rounds to destroy mandatory challenger, Liam Taylor.

Avanesyan (28-3-1, 16 KOs) insists that he will become a two-time World champion now that he has teamed up with Hall of Fame promoter Warren.

He is ranked highly by all four major governing bodies, and World champions Terence Crawford (WBO), Errol Spence (IBF and WBC) and Yordenis Ugas (WBA) are all in his sights.

Avanesyan, 33, said: “I am very happy to be signing with Frank and very confident that he will deliver me the World title shot I need. I want to become a two-time World champion.

“This year has gone so well for me with two great wins and there is momentum in my career again.”

Avanesyan has boxed five times in Britain, including his two most recent wins against Kelly and Taylor.

He added: “It is even better that I have a British promoter because I get so much love from British fans.”

David’s manager Neil Marsh added: “We have signed with Frank because it is the best chance David has of securing a World title fight.

“Since I started working with Frank this year with another of my fighters, Zach Parker he has been completely honourable, delivered absolutely everything he promised and got the team smiling again.

“David has had a good year beating Josh Kelly and Liam Taylor after a period of inactivity and we can’t wait to get going with Frank and Queensberry.

“It was a no-brainer to sign with them. Frank is a Hall of Fame promoter and I’m confident he will get David where he wants to be.”

Warren said: “A lot of promoters wanted to sign David and I’m delighted to have got it over the line.

“I have a fantastic working relationship with Neil Marsh who believes Queensberry have the team to get David marquee fights and titles. We will deliver.

“David is based in the Midlands now and become an attraction for British fans who know a good fighter when they see one.

“Fans who come to our shows will love seeing even more of him, and so will viewers on BT Sport.”

Avanesyan turned professional in June 2009 and had his first 20 fights on home soil in Russia.

In December 2014, he boxed in Britain for the first time. In 2015 he met Marsh and the pair quickly forged a successful relationship.

He became WBA Interim champion in November 2015 stopping Charlie Navarro and just over six months later, Avanesyan outpointed Shane Mosley, ending the American legend’s boxing career.

David who is trained by Carl Greaves was then elevated to WBA regular champion when negotiations to fight Keith Thurman broke down.

Avanesyan made his first defence in February 2017 against Lamont Peterson, but lost a narrow decision on the three judges’ score cards.

He became European champion In March 2019, travelling to Bilbao and ripping the title from 27-0 Spanish star Kerman Lejarraga in nine rounds.

Avanesyan returned for a rematch six months later and stopped Lejarraga inside the first round.

Queensberry’s latest big name signing made it a Spanish hat-trick in September 2019 with a brutal first round knockout of Jose del Rio.

A 14 month lay-off followed that impressive win in Barcelona, but the Wembley Arena triumphs over Kelly and Taylor prove that Avanesyan is heading for World glory again.

EUBANK JR FACES AWDIJAN ON OCTOBER 16 IN NEWCASTLE

OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN

Chris Eubank Jr (30-2, 22 KOs) joins a stellar line up at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on Saturday October 16 as he takes on Wanik Awdijan (28-1, 11 KOs).

Eubank Jr had been due to fight this past weekend but was left without an opponent when Anatoli Muratov was forced to withdraw on the day of the fight. Having remained in training, he and his coach Roy Jones Jr will now head north to face the German Middleweight contender Awdijan, live on Sky Sports

“It was always the plan to get straight back out,” said Chris Eubank Jr. “The cancellation was completely unexpected, it’s a rare situation, it was frustrating, but I get it – some things are out of everybody’s control. Now, I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and fighting in Newcastle.

“My opponent Wanik Awdijan is a serious guy. I’ve watched a couple of his fights now. He’s got a good record, he’s 6’2”, he knows what he’s doing and will bring a different challenge, but it’s nothing we can’t take care of. At this stage, I’ve not had a full camp to work on things for this fight, but I’ve been working hard with Roy and I will have more than enough to get the win over the line.”

“He tried to duck me before because he was too afraid but now there’s nowhere for him to hide from me anymore,” said Wanik Awdijan. “I’ll make him remember me as his worst nightmare. I’m counting down the days. He better be prepared!”

“After the disappointment of last weekend, we’re delighted to have secured Chris another fight so soon,” said Kalle SauerlandHead of Global Boxing at Wasserman. “Newcastle is going to be rocking next Saturday as he joins a bumper bill of boxing at the Utilita Arena. They’ve had the Saudi takeover and now it’s time for the Eubank takeover. Chris faces a tough test against Wanik Awdijan, a former IBF Youth Champion who is unbeaten in his last 21 fights, but this is his time to shine. We expect Chris to be at his destructive best as he continues his quest for Middleweight supremacy.”

“We’re delighted to add Chris Eubank Jr to an action-packed Newcastle bill, topped by Savannah Marshall’s world title fight next Saturday, live on Sky Sports,” said Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development for Sky Sports.

“It was incredibly unfortunate that Chris couldn’t fight last weekend but fighter safety comes first. Now we welcome him back in an intriguing clash with Wanik Awdijan. Chris has big aspirations of fighting the world’s top middleweights – and he’ll be eager to deliver an explosive display on a red-hot night in the north east.

“Hughie Fury faces Christian Hammer in a crucial heavyweight clash, while Lewis Ritson returns in a must-win fight with Hank Lundy, and Savannah takes centre stage as she defends her WBO middleweight belt against Lolita Muzeya.”

“This was already a fantastic fight card stacked from top to bottom with world champions, top contenders and rising stars. The addition of Chris Eubank Jr confirms this as a can’t-miss event and probably the UK fight card of the year,” said BOXXER founder Ben Shalom.

Eubank Jr joins a stacked card on October 16 in Newcastle which features WBO Middleweight Champion Savannah Marshall (10-0, 8 KOs) defending against the undefeated Lolita Muzeya (16-0, 8 KOs), heavyweight contender Hughie Fury (25-3, 14 KOs) against German power-puncher Christian Hammer (26-7, 16 KOs), and local hero Lewis Ritson (21-2-0, 12 KOs) against gritty Philadelphia veteran ‘Hammerin’ Hank Lundy (31-9-1, 14 KOs).

OLYMPIC MEDALIST TARAS SHELESTYUK JOINS PROBELLUM

Probellum is pleased to announce its latest promotional signing, undefeated welterweight sensation Taras Shelestyuk.

Shelestyuk (18-0, 10 knockouts) enjoyed immense success as an amateur, taking home a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in London, and also claiming a gold medal at the 2011 World Amateur Championships in Baku.

Since turning professional in 2013 he has performed extremely well in the 147lb division, winning a number of belts including the WBA Intercontinental and WBO NABO titles.

His high-quality boxing ability and expertise makes him a threat to anybody at welterweight, as Shelestyuk looks to kick on and achieve his dreams of becoming a professional world champion.

He is the latest big name to join forces with Probellum, following on from the signings of Regis Prograis, Badou Jack, Eimantas Stanionis, Arthur Biyarslanov, Ricky Burns, Eduardo Hernandez and Brandon Moore.

All 18 of Shelestyuk’s fights in the paid ranks have taken place in the USA, with the 35-year-old from Ukraine now given the chance to compete on a global stage after teaming up with Probellum.

His ability to fight all over the world is made possible thanks to the partnerships that Probellum have established, having already secured co-promotional agreements with Wasserman Boxing, Universum in Germany, Maravillabox Promotions in Spain, LNK Boxing in Latvia, Glozier Boxing in New Zealand, Shuan Boxing Promotions in the Dominican Republic, Team Ellis Boxing in Australia, Armin Tan Promotions in Indonesia, and Box Office Sports in Ghana.

“This is a new chapter in my boxing career and I’m really happy,” said Shelestyuk“I was world champion as an amateur and now I want to become a world champion as a professional. I like that I will be able to fight all over the world and show people the art of boxing.”

“We’re pleased to welcome yet another high-calibre fighter to the team by announcing the signing of Taras Shelestyuk,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum. “His incredible amateur pedigree speaks for itself, and we now want to help him achieve the same success as a professional.

“Boxing in Ukraine is arguably at an all-time high, with Oleksandr Usyk recently becoming heavyweight champion, and Vasyl Lomachenko is one of the best fighters in the world too, so Shelestyuk will soon be able to show the talent that he also possesses.”

Details on when Shelestyuk will have his first bout after signing with Probellum will be announced in the near future.

SMITH VS. FOWLER + UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“This is a great place, a great city, but especially when you’ve got a great fight. I think everybody here knows their boxing; everybody here knows we’ve got an unbelievable main event, but everyone knows we’ve got an incredible card from top to bottom. This Saturday, live and exclusive on DAZN around the world.

“The main event headlined by Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowler, it’s a breath-taking matchup but what an undercard we have as well. So many great fighters and fights, talk about 50/50’s from the opening bell of the show on Saturday. We could have sold this arena out two or three times, there’s something very special about a sold-out arena in Liverpool and we cannot wait.”

Liam Smith:

“I feel good, the way the fighter should feel in fight week. We’re here, if I’m not ready now I’ll never be, so I’m just looking forward to Saturday and being back. I had a long time out, 17 months, I got the cobwebs off in Russia and you’ll see a better Liam Smith.

“He [Anthony] talks about desire and that, you’re obsessed with it and the stuff he posts out. Desire, I’ve lived in a house with three brothers where boxing’s been our life, we’ve got to have desire to do stuff we’ve done, it’s not like I’ve won British Titles and that. We’ve all got desire, we can all push to that, we’ll see Saturday.

“I still think it’s a step too far for him, you can twelve rounds in the gym with as many sparring partners as you want but it’s different under the lights with ten-ounce gloves on and when you’ve got adrenaline inside of you. Shane can help as much as he wants but when the bell goes it’s only me and Anthony in there.

“Let’s not beat around the bush, you [Eddie] made this, Anthony didn’t call you for me you did.

“You put a fight to me, and I’ll take it, I’ll think right okay what’s the pro and cons to it I’ll take it. I said to my manager let me know if the Fowler fight is the route we’re going, because if that’s the route we’re going then so be it. Obviously in hindsight I wasn’t really looking at Anthony as an opponent, he should be fighting for the British Title which I had a long time. He’s humped past that, he’s in a fight now and we’re three days away – we’ll see.

“Of course, I do, I’ve got things in my own career and my own pride I want to keep. I’ve never lost to a domestic fighter, and I fully intend of keeping that on Saturday night. As a family we’ve never lost a scouse derby and I fully intend of keeping that. My own aspirations for challenging for a World Title again, if I lose to Anthony Fowler I’ve got no chance of doing that so I’ve got a lot at stake for myself and that’s why I’ve knuckled down that way I have.”

Joe McNally, trainer of Liam Smith:

“Thanks to everybody for coming, we really appreciate it. Liam is one of a kind in my opinion, I think this is a jump too far for Anthony Fowler. You’ve got Kieran Conway, JJ Metcalf, Troy Williamson, Sergio Garcia, European Champion. It’s the equivalent of being at the chippy getting your chips and Anthony’s jumped the queue – get to the back. He really should have earned his way, waited in the queue to get a shot at this man and it’ll tell on Saturday night.

“We’re under no illusion that Anthony Fowler is a quality fighter, good amateur background that I believe was a little bit too long. A lot of wear and tear in that game which is telling in the pro ranks. Shane’s done a good job in finely adjusting to use his reach and height which is working with the type of fighters he’s been fighting. Liam has left no stone unturned, and it will tell Saturday night, definitely.

“Liam is a professional, he’s not one minute late and you don’t ask him to do anything twice, it gets done, it’s actually holding Liam Smith back in the gym which is the hard part. Let’s not beat around the bush, if Magomed Kurbanov hadn’t shit his kegs to come here and fight Liam, Fowler wouldn’t be fighting – it should’ve been Kurbanov. You [Eddie] called this fight, you and Shane, Anthony didn’t want it and Liam called your bluff. Now it’s happened hasn’t it, otherwise it wasn’t happening.

“Liam will win in style, whether it’s a KO or a punch victory. Liam has left no stone unturned, and he will win, I truly believe it’s not what Fowler does, it’s what Liam Smith turns up. It’s as simple as that.”

Anthony Fowler:

“I’m grateful for the opportunity, I’m here because I want to be here and win, I want to fight. We don’t call bluffs; we take fights that we believe we can win. I’ve had the best camp of my life, I’m at the best possible version of myself, I’ve had a full camp with no injuries at all, I’m at my physical peak. I’m coming off four straight knockout wins, I’ve been very active, so let’s have it.

“He’s been to the top, he’s been World Champion, I haven’t. I’ve had that mad desire since I was 11, it’s all I’ve ever wanted my whole life. I’ve given my whole life to boxing, it’s all paid off luckily enough, but it means nothing without the win, I’m not here to make up the numbers.

“I’m fully prepared for it, I’ve been visualising it every day, day in, day out, for weeks and weeks. I couldn’t be in a better place, mentally, my weight, my strength, my sparring, I’ve had some tough, tough sparring. I did twelve rounds, and I was fresh as a daisy, I’m in unreal shape because I haven’t been getting tired, just training, and thinking about this fight – I haven’t stopped. I’m just in a great place.

“We’ve both got two arms, two legs, it’s as simple as that – we’re both men. I’ve been active over the last two years, Liam’s had one fight in two years, that bound to play a part. Being inactive and I feel the time is right for me, I feel like this is my time.”

Shane McGuigan, trainer of Anthony Fowler:

“We’ve just been going on as normal, obviously Anthony likes to promote himself and I think he understands he doesn’t have to go out there and shout about this fight, it sold out quickly and the hype is there. He’s knuckled down and stuck to his training, we’rel quietly confident about this fight.

“It’s not like there’s no pressure on Anthony, there’s heaps of pressure on him, we believe that this isn’t the ceiling for Anthony Fowler, but we want to win a World Title. We’ve taken this in our stride, but I believe he’s ready for it, he’s 30 years of age, had the experience in the amateurs, he hasn’t had the acid tests but I’m very confident and believe there’s only one winner on Saturday night.

“Look at Liam Smith, he shells up well and has got a very good defence, he doesn’t rush into his attacks, he’s intelligent behind his pressure. He’s a very good, intelligent pressure fighter. We’ve had unbelievable sparring for this camp and that’s why I believe Anthony has raised the bar and I’m excited for Saturday night. It’s the biggest test for his career by a mile but I believe it’s one he’s going to overcome.

“Anthony’s not one to be in boring fights but neither is Liam Smith. We’ve got a game plan, I know, and Anthony knows what he’s got to do, we’ve drilled it in the gym day in, day out. I just don’t believe Liam is going to be able to bring something new to the table. We know what he does but I believe Anthony is going to win regardless.

“We’re going to get the win; I believe both the stoppage and points win are possible.”

Shannon Courtenay:

“It’s going to be a tough fight; she’s coming here with the fire exactly like I did when I won the World Championship, so understand – I’ve already been there. I am World Champion and there’s nothing that she can bring on Saturday night that’s going to take that belt away from me. I’ve worked my arse off to get here and I’m not going nowhere.

“I don’t think she [Jamie] has ever gone ten rounds before, I have, I’ve got that experience in the bag. I can stand and go toe-to-toe, or I can box, I can bring both styles. Whatever she comes with I will adapt, I think I’ll drag her into deep waters where she’s never been before and she’s in for a rude awakening.

“I’m so excited to actually be here in Liverpool, everyone’s welcomed me beautifully, I actually had an option to either fight on the Joshua card or here and I wanted to fight in Liverpool. I’m buzzing to put on a good show for everyone here and make sure I come home Saturday with that belt.”

Jamie Mitchell:

“It’s an awesome opportunity, I’m so happy to be here and put on my performance for you guys and let everyone see my talents and skills.

“I haven’t had it easy in life, I came up in foster care systems, so this is a great opportunity for me because it mimics my past and having it hard – I’m used to hard times. I’m going to make it really easy for myself on Saturday night.”

Ted Cheeseman:

“Obviously Troy Williamson is unbeaten, he doesn’t want to lose his unbeaten record he’s going to try his hardest not to do that. I just believe that the experience I’ve picked up, the way I’ve been matured, the way I’ve been becoming an all-round fight, I believe I’m a level above. I’ll have to prove that and put in a good performance on Saturday night.

“I’m a veteran on the twelve rounds now, even in the gym in the last few weeks doing the twelve rounds in sparring it’s different to when I’ve done them before. The engine is there now, I know how to train and push myself hard. I’ve done it a lot, for Troy it’s his first time and he’s going to have to have that gut check.

“He keeps saying about his power but no disrespect to Troy, he hasn’t been hit yet, I have. That’s the difference, he’s got to worry about what power I hit him with not what power he can hit me with. Everyone can see I’ve got a great chin but how good is his chin.”

Troy Williamson:

“I think that Ted and I are the two best Super-Welterweights in the division and we’re going to put it all on the line on Saturday night.

“I know how tough and fit I am, obviously I haven’t had the opportunity to show I can do twelve rounds because I’ve never needed to. I’m an explosive puncher and I get rid of people; I know deep down that I can do the distance. I’m very fit and very tough, it’s going to be a great fight.

“No doubt at all, the hard work has been done. I’ve done the rounds in the gym and it’ll show on Saturday night.”

Kieron Conway:

“This is a must win fight for me, but the experience out in Texas in and out of the ring was invaluable for me. I think I learnt a lot; I’ve been working on a hell of a lot of stuff in training, things are coming off nicely, I’m in the best shape and form I’ve ever been in. I don’t see a home advantage for James because I think I’m going to come here and make this look easy.

“I need to make a statement, if the opportunity comes to get him out of there, I’m going for it. I believe that I can take it as well, I don’t see this fight going 10 rounds, the form that I’m in, I think I’m a different level now. My last performance should kick me up the arse, I’ve got things in gear now, I’m ready to show everyone what I’m about.”

James Metcalf:

“I’m definitely ready to go. You know you’re saying you didn’t know if I was going to turn up, if I agree to something I’m going to do it, I’m going to be there on the night and I’m going to win as well.

“I haven’t in a big city in front of a big crowd like this in a while, I’m really looking forward to that. I just can’t wait now.”

Solomon Dacres:

“He [Kamil] said it himself, he’ll fight anybody. He’s a tough guy but I’ve got the same mindset. No disrespect to journeymen but I’ll fight anybody. I put the hard work in the gym to show the level I can get to.

“I don’t want to have fights that don’t mean anything, I want to gain something from the fight. Kamil has tested good prospects before, and he’s pushed them to the limits – it’s something I need if I want to become World Champion. I need tough tests that are going to prepare me to go onto better things. I’m looking for better fights and going on to even better things hopefully.”

Kamil Sokolowski:

“This is my first fight with Matchroom, my record might not look so good but I’m a very good boxer. I’ve come here and I’m looking forward to Saturday, I will check the ability of the young prospect Solomon Dacres. I can fight with anyone, I don’t mind, just let me know and I’ll fight.”

Luke Willis:

“I’m looking forward to Saturday and putting on a masterclass in front of my own city. I’m looking forward to sitting back after and watching the rest of the bill, it’s a great card.

“He [Rylan] does what he says on the tin, he comes forward and he swings bombs. I’m not saying he’s the worst boxer in the world but all he’s got on me in power. I think he’s underestimating my power and he’ll find out on Saturday. I do carry power, he’s saying he’s going to come to my city and knock me out, he’ll find out on Saturday what I’m about.

“8-ounce gloves on I can hit. On Saturday you’ll see.”

Rylan Charlton:

“I’ve always been a 135-pound fighter, we just had the opportunities at Welterweight and it was great because I got my name out there. Now it’s time to show everyone what I can really do and show how effective my power is at Lightweight.

“Everyone’s got their styles, you’ve back foot fighters which he is, you’ve got come forward fighters, and it’s whoever is going toe execute their game plan better on the night.”

Pete McGrail”

“Big thank you to you Eddie, Matchroom and DAZN in giving me the opportunity to showcase my skills on the biggest platform. I’m just looking forward to putting a show on for the crowd, it’s been a long time coming to box on a big stage in front of my friends and family – my city. I’m just looking forward to it now.

“I’ve been training alongside Fowler for years with Team GB and Beefy has always wished me well over the years if I’ve ever needed any advice. I wish them both a very good fight and may the best man win.

“I’ll be bringing World Titles back to the city of Liverpool, I’ve always managed to perform well on the amateur stage, and I’ve always been at a high level. For me, this next year or two I’m looking to be as busy as possible, box as many stars and gain as much experience as possible – we’ll go from there.”

Blane Hyland:

“I’m looking forward to getting out there on Saturday, really excited, if the ring was set up outside, I’d be waiting for Saturday night. I want to thank Matchroom for getting me on this bill and I’m looking forward to putting on a show in front of my own crowd.”

Rhiannon Dixon:

“I was out for a long time, around two years because of the pandemic, obviously with my day job that took precedent. I’m just excited to get my career off again and trying to keep as active as possible.

“I haven’t come from the conventional route, but I’ve had a crash course in boxing now, I’m learning from the best in Joe, sparring Natasha (Jonas), Anthony (Crolla) has taken me under his wing, he’s a World Champion and knows what he’s doing. I can’t wait to show everyone what I’m about and what I’ve been doing.”

No. 10 women’s pound-for-pound fighter Ladd (9-1, El Dorado Hills, Calif.) hopes to pick up where she left off following a 2019 TKO victory over fellow contender Yana Kunitskaya. During her UFC run she has also netted impressive stoppage wins against Tonya Evinger and Lina Länsberg. Ladd now goes for another emphatic finish in her featherweight debut.

Dumont (6-1, fighting out of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil) aims to turn heads in her first UFC main event opportunity. A Sanda black belt and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, she has earned victories over former featherweight title challenger Felicia Spencer, as well as Ashlee Evans-Smith. Felipe (11-1, fighting out of Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil) hopes to steal the show in the biggest spotlight of his career. An aggressive striker, he is currently riding a three-fight win streak with victories over Jake Collier, Justin Tafa and Yorgan de Castro. PHILADELPHIA (October 7, 2021)–Former four-time, two-division world champion and the MOST POPULAR FIGHTER IN BRAZILIAN HISTORY, Acelino “Popo” Freitas is on the 2021 International Boxing Hall of Fame Ballot.

Freitas exploded onto the scene when he won the original Boxcino Tournament in 1997.

Freitas, who was promoted by Banner Promotions, captured the WBO Junior Lightweight world title with a first-round knockout over Anatoly Alexandrov on August 7, 1999, was able to start his career with a staggering 29 consecutive knockouts.

He defended the title 10-times and then became a unified champion as he added the WBA crown with a 12-round unanimous decision over Cuban Gold Medal winner Joel Casamayor.

On January 3, 2004, Freitas became a two-division champion by outpointing undefeated Artur Grigorian to win the WBO Lightweight world championship. On April 29, 2006, Freitas became a two-time lightweight champion as he re-won the WBO Lightweight title with a win over Zahir Raheem.

The Brazilian native became widely popular, especially in his home country of Brazil, and became must-see TV, as evidenced by his memorable brawl when he climbed off the deck twice to comeback and stop Jorge Barrios in a bloody affair on August 9, 2003. That fight was the most watched boxing match in South America.

Freitas, who throughout his title runs, was a staple on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing, retired with a Hall-of-Fame worthy record of 41-2 with 34 knockouts.

Following his career, Freitas has been a very influential figure in Brazilian politics as he served as a Senator. He has become a top boxing analyst in South America.

“Acelino was an amazing fighter who provided not only an incredible career when it came to winning and defending world titles, but he was the most exciting fighter with his incredible knockout prowess. I am so proud of him and extremely happy and fortunate to have promoted his career. VIDEO: Fury vs Wilder III: Undercard Press Conference

TYSON FURY VS. DEONTAY WILDER III UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (October 7, 2021) – Fighters competing on the stacked undercard leading up to the highly anticipated Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III heavyweight title trilogy showdown previewed their respective showdowns before they enter the ring this Saturday, October 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The press conference featured fighters competing on the ESPN+ PPV and FOX Sports PPV that will see 2016 Nigerian Olympian “The One and Only” Efe Ajagba and fellow unbeaten Frank “The Cuban Flash” meet in the 10-round co-main event, heavyweight contenders Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius and Adam “Babyface” Kownacki square off in a 12-round rematch and 21-year-old sensation Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson and Russian veteran Vladimir Tereshkin battle in the eight-round PPV opener.

The press conference also included fighters competing in preliminary bouts airing on ESPN2 and FS1, as super middleweight knockout artist Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga faces former title challenger Marcelo Esteban “El Terrible” Coceres in a 10-round showdown, plus former unified 154-pound champion Julian “J-Rock” Williams returns to take on Mexico’s Vladimir Hernandez in a 10-round bout.

Fury vs. Wilder III tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.tmobilearena.com or www.axs.com. The event is promoted by Top Rank, BombZquad Promotions, TGB Promotions and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. A Premier Boxing Champions presentation.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday:

EFE AJAGBA

“I want to thank my whole team for giving me this opportunity on the undercard for this big heavyweight championship fight. I’m really looking forward to Saturday.

“Sanchez made a mistake calling me out. It’s a huge mistake. He better be ready for what I’m bringing.

“We’ve been working on a lot of new different things that you’re going to see in this fight. If he wants to test my power, we’ll see if he can stand up to it.

“It’s been great to be sparring with Tyson Fury because it gives me a lot of good experience. I’ve learned a lot from that work. He puts pressure on me to keep moving in the ring and throwing combination punches.”

FRANK SANCHEZ

“This is a very big fight for me. I’m going to show that I’m a champion and that I’m coming here to win.

“I’ve been looking for this fight against Efe for a long time. I know that I can beat him and I’m going to beat him on Saturday.

“It’s been a great experience training with Eddy Reynoso and I’m learning a lot from him and Canelo. They’ve supported me a lot heading into this fight. Canelo has taught me to be focused and calm in the ring, and most importantly to have confidence in the work that I put into this fight.

“What I’ve seen is that Efe relies on his power. He doesn’t have the boxing skills that I do. Once he faces someone like me, who has a lot of different tools, then it’s going to be different for him.”

ROBERT HELENIUS

“I don’t see myself as an underdog. I’ve never seen myself that way. I know what I can do in the ring and I’m planning to do it again, just like in the first fight.

“Sparring with Deontay Wilder for three weeks was very helpful. It really helped me get used to the time difference. But we also had sparring partners other than Deontay to help us prepare for Adam’s style.

“I’ve been boxing for over 20 years. But this is going to be the best Robert Helenius that you’re ever going to see.”

ADAM KOWNACKI

“The people I surround myself with have helped me focus throughout this time since my last fight. I’m glad he says that he’s at his best right now, so there will be no excuses when I beat him this time.

“This means everything to me. I’ve been training very hard for this fight. It’s do or die for me. I have to prove that the last fight was an accident and that it won’t happen again.

“I got reckless in our first fight. I wasn’t listening to my coach like I should have. I needed to use my jab a lot more.

“Right now I’m just focused on Robert. I learned that if you look too far forward, something will hit you in the face. I’m only focused on Robert Helenius.”

JARED ANDERSON

“My confidence is always through the roof. The great sparring I get with Tyson Fury helps because he supports me and gives me pointers. It’s nice to be prepared like that before I actually step in there.

“It means a lot that Fury is supporting me. It lets everyone know that I’m a name to be reckoned with and that everyone has to look out for me.

“My level of competition is continuing to grow. Tyson said that I’m a totally different fighter from the last camp he worked with me. We’re just working on being the best that I can be.

“I don’t think that I have anything to prove because I have nothing to lose. That’s what makes me an incredibly dangerous opponent. Make sure you tune in, because we’re going to war for sure.”

VLADIMIR TERESHKIN

“I’m very ready to fight on this huge event. I’m happy and I know a lot about my opponent. I’ve done great preparation and we’re going to win.

“My opponent is a strong fighter but I’m prepared as well as I ever have been. He’s going to have to be ready for what I bring to the ring just like I’m going to be.”

EDGAR BERLANGA

“When I fight, I bring fireworks. I’m just a different type of fighter with a different type of energy. I belong on a major card like this.

“It was a blessing to get rounds in during my last fight. I got the experience that I needed. It’s going to help my career knowing that feeling. My power was still there and we got the job done that night.

“We have a game plan for Saturday and we’re going to execute it like I always do. We’re not going to the scorecards. Get your popcorn ready and tune-in.”

MARCELO ESTEBAN COCERES

“I’m ready for this big opportunity. I’m happy to be here and ready to take advantage of this chance .

“I’m just coming to bring my fight and execute my game plan. I’m not going to give away too many details, but we’re coming to win on Saturday.

“I don’t like to study my opponents too much. Because they can switch game plans. My team has looked at some of his fights and we’ve just gone from there.”

JULIAN WILLIAMS

“It almost feels like I’m making my pro debut on a big card because it’s been so long since I’ve been in the ring. It’s been a good thing in some ways. I was able to recharge my batteries. Sometimes rest is good and I took full advantage of it.

“The 154-pound division is still wide open. We have two main guys with Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano, but there’s no clear cut best guy. There’s still room for me to come in and seize the day.

“I respect that Hernandez is coming to fight and bring his best. But just wait until Saturday, because I have something in store for him.”

VLADIMIR HERNANDEZ

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity. I had great preparation for this bout and I’m ready for Julian Williams.

“Alfredo Angulo was a big opportunity and this is an even bigger one. I’m going to take full advantage of it.

“This is a very different opponent than Angulo. He’s a lot faster and he’s a very tough fighter. We’re ready for a war. I’m coming with everything I have for my Mexican people.”

ANDRADE VS. QUIGLEY TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

Tickets are on sale now for the blockbuster World title quadruple header led by Demetrius Andrade defending his WBO World Middleweight title against Jason Quigley at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire on Friday December 19, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS START AT $30 (PLUS FEES) AND ARE ON SALE NOW FROM TICKETMASTER.COM
Andrade (30-0 18 KOs) puts his crown on the line for the fifth time and the Rhode Island star will be looking for a statement win as he hunts the unification blockbusters with his fellow belt holders at 160lbs. The 33 year old, who picked up the vacant strap in his first fight with Eddie Hearn in Boston in October 2018, will make it five straight fights with European challengers when he steps through the ropes against Quigley.

Quigley (19-1 14 KOs) moved into prime position to land a World title shot in May by beating Golden Boy stablemate Shane Mosley Jr by majority decision in a thriller in Las Vegas, and the former amateur star becomes the second Irishman to challenge ‘Boo Boo’ after Luke Keeler took on the WBO ruler in Miami in January 2020.

Three more World title fights in support of Andrade’s clash with Quigley are led by Murodjon Akhmadaliev defending his IBF and WBA World Super Bantamweight titles against Ronny Rios.

Akhmadaliev (9-0 7 KOs) was at his spiteful best last time out, putting the challenge of Ryosuke Iwasa to bed in the fifth round of his first professional outing in his homeland of Uzbekistan. ‘MJ’, who became unified champion in just his eighth fight in the paid ranks by ripping the belts from Daniel Roman, puts the belts on the line for the second time in New Hampshire and does so against his WBA mandatory challenger and #1 in the rankings.

Rios (33-3 16 KOs) is in great form heading into his second World title challenge, heading to the east coast on the back of four wins, the latest being the only one to go the distance in February in Indio, California with a wide points win over Oscar Negrete.

The third world title fight is pits Mexico vs. Puerto Rico and it’s the long-awaited showdown between Julio Cesar Martinez and McWilliams Arroyo.

Mexican Martinez (18-1 14 KOs) returned to action in typically entertaining fashion in June, stopping Joel Cordova in Guadalajara to successfully defend his WBC World Flyweight title for the third time. It will be third time lucky for the Arroyo clash, with Covid squashing the first attempt to pit them together in Tulsa in May 2020 and then a hand injury to Martinez ruled him out in fight week when they were due to clash on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez’s clash with Avni Yildirim in Miami in February.

Puerto Rican Arroyo (21-4 16 KOs) was able to taste action that night and picked up the Interim title at the home of the Miami Dolphins with a fifth round win over Abraham Rodriguez, and will be desperate to upgrade and rip the full title from Martinez as they finally get to tangle.

The fourth World title bout on the bill is the second step on the path to crowing an undisputed women’s champion at 140lbs as Kali Reis takes on Jessica Camara for the WBA, IBO and vacant WBO straps.

Two-weight champion Reis (18-7-1 5 KOs) added the IBO title to her WBA crown last time out with a majority decision win over Australian Diana Prazak, and the Rhode Island champion and former WBC Middleweight ruler will be looking to add another title through victory over Camara (8-2), the Canadian that bounced back from defeat to Melissa St Vil with a confidence boosting win over Heather Hardy in May – and the stakes couldn’t be higher with the winner set to face the victor of the October 30 clash between WBC champion Chantelle Cameron and IBF champion Mary McGee at The O2 in London, England.
