FOSTER v CUNNINGHAM: PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

QUEENSBERRY today hosted a press conference ahead of their show at Utilita Arena, Birmingham on Saturday (October 9), live on BT.

Queensberry’s British and Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight champion Brad Foster (14-0-2, 5 KOs) meets European title holder Jason Cunningham (29-6, 6 KOs) in a 12 round contest where all three titles are on the line,

In a Midlands derby, Nottingham’s Ekow Essuman (15-0, 6 KOs) will defend his British, Commonwealth Welterweight titles when he faces Kingswinford’s Danny Ball (10-0-1, 4 KOs).

Former World Light-Heavyweight title challenger, Callum Johnson (19-1, 14 KOs) defends his WBO Global championship against Russian Server Emurlaev (24-2, 8 KOs).

English Bantamweight champion Liam Davies (10-0, 5 KOs) faces Nicaragua’s former World title challenger Dixon Flores (17-7-3, 6 KOs) with the vacant WBC International Super-Bantamweight crown on the line.

Liverpool Super-Featherweight Nick Ball (13-0, 6 KOs) is in eight round action Poland’s Piotr Gudel (10-6-1, 1 KO).

York Welterweight George Davey (4-0) is in six round action. Worcester Super-Welterweight Owen Cooper (4-0, 1 KO), Bradford Lightweight Amaar Akbar (1-0), Bloxwich Super-Welterweight Ryan Woolridge (1-0) and Telford debutant Macauley Owen all box four rounders.

Here are a selection of quotes from the press conference.

FRANCIS WARREN: “We have a monster fight later on Saturday night between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, but before that some monsters in the Midlands. Brad v Jason and Ekow v Jason are the type of fights that get people intrigued. It’s an old phrase but domestic dust-ups get the blood flowing. There are plenty of belts up for grabs and that is what people want to see. Liam Davies was spectacular in his last fight and this is a good progression fight against Dixon Flores. Callum is one of the best Light-Heavyweights in the World. Callum has a tough fight on Saturday and some think it is a potential banana skin. I don’t think it is.”

BRAD FOSTER: “Jason is the toughest test of my career and that is why I have worked so hard. Let’s go into the deep waters Jason talks about because I am a very good swimmer. Jason is no mug and I have to be on top of my game. I’m just living the dream, working hard and chasing my goals. The next one is Saturday night.

JASON CUNNINGHAM: “I’m ready for what Brad has on Saturday. I hold the bigger title and I’m in the away corner. It’s nothing new to me. It’s a great fight with all the marbles. All I ask, is that I get a fair crack of the whip. I don’t care what anyone says, I am taking care of Brad Foster. It’s taken me that long to get here I am just going to enjoy it. We’re going to see what Brad is all about.”

EKOW ESSUMAN: “All respect to Danny, but I have paid the price to be the boss. I have worked my way from small hall shows without a promoter until the last couple of fights. It’s been hard, but I have been training in the trenches and I just graft. I didn’t revel in the title win because I have tunnel vision and move onto the next thing. Danny is in my way and I have to take him out. He is just another victim. Nobody has seen me show my true potential. I just want to push on and take over the World.”

DANNY BALL: “The pressure of a big fight against Ekow doesn’t bother me. I am in the sport to be in these fights. Winning the British title is a World title for someone like me. The British title was once just a dream. Now it’s going to come home with me on Saturday.”

CALLUM JOHNSON: “I’m ready to go. I am looking to put a show on and do the job I always do. You are in there to throw punches, but if it is another war I know I can go through the trenches and go as deep as anybody. I would like to get a World title and defend it against Lyndon Arthur or Anthony Yarde. I have a test on Saturday and have to come through that. I always get in there to knock out people and at some point he will go.”

SERVER EMURLAEV: “Callum is a very dangerous opponent and one who will throw me a challenge. I have a chance to rise to the occasion. Britain is the home of boxing and I am happy to be here, but I’m here to fight. This is the career opportunity I have been waiting for.”

LIAM DAVIES: “Since I joined Queensberry it has been great. I have two stoppages and I am going for another one in the second round. Dixon has fought for a World title and is no idiot. I am going up to Super-Bantamweight for this fight because the opportunities never came at Bantamweight. I am big enough and good enough to mix with the best at Super-Bantamweight. I will come with bad intentions at either weight. There are also great domestic fights with Andrew Cain and Dennis McCann to be had.”

BRIEDIS: I HAVE TO DEFEND MY BELTS TO GET THE LATVIAN FLAG RAISED AFTER THE FIGHT

Mairis Briedis (27-1, 19 KOs) has all the motivation he needs ahead of his IBF and Ring Magazine World Cruiserweight Title defence against German challenger Artur Mann (17-1, 9 KOs) on October 16 at the Arena Riga.

The Latvian boxing star returns to action following his spectacular victory over Yuniel Dorticos in the final of the World Boxing Super Series and is looking forward to boxing in front of his home fans again having been forced to fight his last contest behind closed doors due to Covid restrictions.

“I’m very happy to be able to have my people behind me again,” says Briedis. “I know there will be people from all over Latvia coming to support me and to enjoy another exciting night of boxing from the stands at Arena Riga.”

The three-time World Champion has put Latvia on the boxing map. Having claimed world honours for the first time in 2017, the 36-year-old has gone on to hold IBF, WBO, WBC and Ring Magazine World Titles at 200lbs, and is currently considered to be the number one Cruiserweight on the planet.

Ahead of his hotly-anticipated fight with Mann, Brieids has revealed his pride at representing his country and admits his motivation comes from seeing the Latvian flag raised after he wins.

“I’m proud to represent Latvia and to fight for my people,” he says. “I always go out to do my best and I never take any shortcuts in training. That’s because I know I have to defend my belts to get the Latvian flag raised after the fight.”

There has been talk of Briedis facing British boxer Lawrence Okolie next in a mouth-watering Cruiserweight unification bout or moving up in weight where he could meet former foe Oleksandr Usyk in a huge Heavyweight rematch.

Despite the speculation, the Latvian champion insists he is fully focused on his upcoming fight and is not underestimating the challenge posed by the former WBO International Champion and IBO World Title Challenger Mann.

“I have never overlooked any of my opponents,” he says. “My experience from my younger days has proven this doesn’t end well. I always remember it up to this day and I have the utmost respect for every opponent. This is boxing and Mann is not an easy opponent. My team has done the homework of analysing him and we know he’s not an easy guy to face.”

Mairis Briedis defends his IBF and Ring Magazine World Cruiserweight Titles against Artur Mann on October 16 at the Arena Riga in Latvia. Tickets are on sale now and available to purchase via https://www.bilesuserviss.lv.

TYSON FURY VS. DEONTAY WILDER III FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (October 6, 2021) – WBC and lineal heavyweight world champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury and former heavyweight world champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder previewed their highly anticipated heavyweight title trilogy showdown at the final press conference Wednesday before they step in the ring this Saturday, October 9 live on ESPN+ PPV and FOX Sports PPV from T-Mobile Arena.

Face to face for the first time since originally announcing the trilogy showdown in June, Fury and Wilder exchanged words during the heated press conference, rehashing the numerous dramatic twists and turns that have made up their rivalry, while promising to end their feud in the ring on Saturday.

Fury vs. Wilder III tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.tmobilearena.com or www.axs.com. The event is promoted by Top Rank, BombZquad Promotions, TGB Promotions and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. A Premier Boxing Champions presentation.

The fighters were joined on stage by their respective trainers, SugarHill Steward (Fury) and Malik Scott (Wilder). Here is what the press conference participants had to say Wednesday:

TYSON FURY

“I’ve just been training and taking it day by day. All we can do is live one day at a time. Every day that we wake up is a blessed day.

“All these fights are exactly the same to me. Some guy is trying to take my head off. No matter who it may be, they don’t matter to me. It’s the Tyson Fury road show and it has continued for 13 years.

“Wilder is a weak person mentally and I’m going to knock him out on Saturday night. I obliterated him in the rematch and I see much more of the same in the third fight.

“I’m the last man standing between me, Deontay and Anthony Joshua. I’m the last one undefeated. I’m the two-time heavyweight champion and I’ve never lost a fight. That’s history.

“Me and Sugarhill go back to like 2010 in Detroit. We have a great bond going. To have any successful relationship, you have to have good communication. We’ve got that. We just gel together.

“It’s not easy for me to pick a trainer because I’m outspoken and do outlandish things. I have to have someone on the same wavelength to match that and I’ve definitely found a match with Sugarhill.

“He says he wants to do bad things to me and that he’s got all this anger and aggression. Those who hold hot coals with aggression are the ones who get burned. He knows he’s lost twice and that he’s going to lose the third time.

“He’s in denial and he’s getting knocked out. His legacy is in bits. I knocked him out and now I’m going to retire him.”

DEONTAY WILDER

“I don’t have anything to prove. I’m in a great place and in a great state of mind. I have a lot of great people around me. This fight is about redemption, retaliation and retribution.

“We’ve been going from day one since the last fight. There’s been no stop. The delays have been beneficial for us. One thing about this camp, is that I’ve had all of my brothers around me who’ve been with me from the start.

“Many people thought I was down and out, but it wouldn’t be fair to the people around me to feel that way. My dedication has been focused every day.

“Over training is a real thing and we’ve been able to take small breaks at certain times before getting back at it. Everything has been good and timed out perfectly.

“Saturday night is going to be a different fight. It’s rare that we get trilogies like this and I truly believe this one is going down in history.

“It’s only made me better as a man and as a fighter to see certain things that happened in the second fight. It’s made me even hungrier than before. I needed everything that happened in that fight. It was really a blessing in disguise.

“I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Your legacy only dies when the desire for the sport dies. I’m well alive right now.

“My energy is like my mind, it’s very violent. I’m just ready to go October 9. I’ve dedicated myself and devoted my time and my body, me and my team, to reinventing myself. I’m ready to reintroduce myself to the world.

“Get ready for war. This is going to be an amazing fight on Saturday night. I’m wearing my red outfit because I want it back in blood. I’m looking forward to it.”

SUGARHILL STEWARD, Fury’s Trainer

“Training Tyson Fury has been just about making him better. He was already an exceptional boxer before I started training him. We fine-tuned those skills and understood some things that he didn’t see. Most importantly, it’s just about being ready. When he’s ready, he’s unstoppable.

“Tyson Fury is very conscious of Deontay’s abilities. We’re just concentrating on being sharp and being focused. There’s always more to learn in boxing and Tyson is learning and having fun with it.

“It’s exciting to be here. I believe in what the Wilder camp has been working on. I’ve looked at the clips. It gets me motivated to keep working with Tyson. We’re expecting nothing less than a knockout.”

MALIK SCOTT, Wilder’s Trainer

“I’m a student of the game. Deontay, in my opinion, ruled the heavyweight division just using one or two weapons. Being in training with him, I used to always say that a lot of his skills weren’t being used. He got content knocking people out with one weapon.

“I went into Deontay’s toolbox and pulled everything out that he did well. I wanted to make sure that we drilled it over and over again. I didn’t teach him anything new. Deontay Wilder can do it all, I just pulled some of those things out of him.

“When it comes to working on Deontay’s fundamentals, he has good fundamentals, he just didn’t always use them. I’m just reminding him about tools that he wasn’t using.”

ANAHEIM, CA (October 6, 2021) – Jaime Munguia (37-0, 30 KOs) and the fearless “King” Gabriel Rosado (26-13-1, 15 KOs) hosted a virtual press conference today in anticipation of their upcoming Mexico vs. Puerto Rico brawl at Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday, November 13. The 12-round middleweight bout for the WBO Intercontinental Middleweight championship will be streamed live exclusively on DAZN worldwide, excluding Mexico, starting at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET.

Below is what the fighters and attendees had to say to Golden Boy Fight Night’s Beto Duran.

JOE MARKOWSKI, DAZN EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

“Everyone at DAZN is very excited about the main event. It’s going to be an all-out war between two of the toughest men in the sport. At only 24 years of age, Jaime has rapidly risen through the ranks and defeated some of the best on his way to the top of the division. You’ve only got to look at his incredible knockout to win ratio at 81% and the resume of opponents that he’s fought, that he’s a world championship level fighter and one that we are very confident will be in the pound for pound conversation very soon.

“His opponent in Gabriel Rosado is as tough as they come. There is no doubting it. We’ve watched him on DAZN several times what a fierce competitor he is and how willing he is to step into the ring against any man in the sport, so we’re very excited to have him back on DAZN, and I’m sure he’s raring to go too. All in all, this is a fight you don’t want to miss. All of the action from fight week, as ever, all the way through to fight night itself, will be carried live and exclusive on DAZN, worldwide on DAZN, as part of what’s shaped up to be a blockbuster boxing schedule for us as we close out the year. We’ll thank Oscar, and we’ll thank the Golden Boy team for their partnership and their support and wish both camps the best of luck in their preparations. We look forward to seeing all of you come November 13.”

KIM BEDIER, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT & GENERAL MANAGER OF OCV!BE

“For over 28 years, Honda Center has hosted world-class sporting events and great fights on and off the ice, and that legacy continues as we welcome back Golden Boy Promotions to Anaheim. On November 13th rising superstar Jaime Munguía takes on Gabriel Rosado live in this highly anticipated match. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com, and we will see you on fight night here at Honda Center.”

ERIC GOMEZ, PRESIDENT, GOLDEN BOY

“Rosado won, he won his lottery ticket in his last fight, you know when he knocked out Bek [Bektemir Melikuzie] Bek “The Bully. He had such a great knockout that, you know, everybody, the fans, everybody was clamoring for this fight.

“It’s the type of fight that Munguía needs to establish himself in that division. You know, in many ways, Rosado’s been around, and he’s got great experience. He’s kind of like the keeper at the gate in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. This is a great example of records not really meaning anything because he’s always dangerous. If Munguía can get past him, this will establish him as one of the top players in the division.

“The sky’s the limit, the sky’s the limit [for Munguia], but he needs these types of fights so that he can establish himself so that he can prove that he belongs. Yeah, he won the [world] title when he was very young, and he fought a smaller guy in Saddam Ali. We’ve been bringing him along, and he moved up to 160. These are the type of fights he needs so that he can establish himself in the division.

“It’s always good. It’s always good to announce fights and get positive feedback. It’s not always the case. We always try to please the fans. I mean, that’s first and foremost. You want to please the fans and make the fights that they want. You got to kind of keep your ear to the ground and listen to the chatter and what they’re talking about. A lot of fans were talking about this fight after Rosado’s last win, they wanted this fight, and we heard them loud and clear. I’m just happy we were able to get it done. It’s going to be a great fight.

“[Gabriel Rosado] is as dangerous as they come. I mean, you know we’ve been working with him for many, many years, it seems like over 10 years. I just think back to all the fights where he was supposed to be an opponent, and he came out either with a draw or a win. He’s just that type of guy. The great thing about Gabe Rosado now, when you talk to him versus when we first started working with him over 10 years ago, is that he’s so much more mature. He takes everything a little more professional. His discipline’s better, his motivations are better. He’s got a family now, so that always seems to settle a fighter down. He’s always in shape. He’s always working out. Those are the guys that are dangerous. The guys that are always in the gym. The guys that are always ready to fight. Those are the most dangerous guys.

“You can see the progression in [Munguia]. He’s learning from one of the best, one of the masters, one of the greatest fighters out of Mexico in Érik Morales. He’s a multi-division champion, multi-champion. Who fought all the top fighters in the world. That experience, you can’t buy that experience. To have someone like that in your corner, the psyche that he has, the mindset that he has, it’s been great for [Munguia]. Munguia is still very, very young but having a guy like Érik Morales with him is a huge plus.

“Whenever you have Mexico versus Puerto Rico, whether it’s Mexican-American, whether it’s Mexican, whether it’s Puerto Rican America, you name it. It’s always going to be a fun fight. It’s always going to be a great fight. The thing about the Mexican fight fans is that they’re very educated when it comes to boxing, and they have a great deal of respect for the Puerto Ricans. Yes, they want to beat them, you want your guy to win, but they also know and understand the rich history of Puerto Rico. There’s going to be a lot of Gabe Rosado supporters there, too, believe it or not. Here in the L.A. area, he has won over the fans. They really, truly do respect him because he’s a warrior because he gives it his all because he’s in there to either try to knock you out or he will get knocked out. They love that whenever you have a fighter that’s that disciplined, that dedicated to his craft, that you can’t help but root for him. Yes, Jaime is going to be the favorite. Jaime is going to have the backyard fans that are going to be around for him, but don’t be fooled; Rosado’s going to have a lot of supporters as well. Rosado trains in Hollywood with Freddie Roach at Wild Card.

‘KING’ GABRIEL ROSADO, MIDDLEWEIGHT CONTENDER

“Well, I think the last couple fights since I actually linked up with Freddie Roach, I think it shows. This is an improved Gabe Rosado. I have experience; I’m putting in the work. Yes, my record is deceiving. I wasn’t the guy with the machine behind me, with the big promoters, big management behind me, so a lot of times, I went into fights where the other guy was the favorite. And there have been fights that should have gone my way, where I got the shit-end of the stick. And it showed in the Danny Jacobs fight. I just saw that fight, and I was like, ‘wow, clearly I out-boxed him.’ But you know, that’s just the beauty of it, that the fans get to see it, and the fans at the end of the day can’t be fooled. I made a statement in my last fight, which I think will be ‘Knock Out of The Year.’ So we’re excited about this Munguia fight.

“I’m excited, but I am not going to give up the game plan, obviously. I want to do a little bit of everything. I’m going to bang, I’m gonna move, I’m gonna box, and I’m going in to win. I’m not just going to win on the scorecards; I want to get a knockout. I want to keep that momentum going because I think it’s important. These are the kinds of fights where it has to live up to the expectations of the fans. So you have to be a hundred percent, and you gotta be willing to be all in, in the ring. It will go down into the history books. This is one of the fights that they’ll be talking about 20 to 30 years from now.

“Bek was a two-time Olympian, I believe, 290 knockouts in the amateurs and was crushing his opponents in the pros. He was a big, strong, powerful guy, so that [win for me] was a statement. Munguia could have gone the easier route. He could have gone with his mandatory, so you have to respect the guy that says, ‘no, I want Rosado.’ He is willing to give the fans what they want, and that’s what makes this fight special, that t’s a fight that the fans asked for. In boxing nowadays, with the politics, it’s hard to give the fans what they want. This right here is just like an early Christmas gift for the fans. It’s gonna be lit.”

JAIME MUNGUIA, WBO INTERCONTINENTAL MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION

“Well, I think he is a good challenge for me. I have always seen him fight great fighters, and so we were really interested when the fight was offered. I think this will be a great fight for all fight fans and a great fight for me.

“Our strategy right now is to focus on working on my general boxing skills. Making sure I keep my distance, keeping my hands up. We noticed that Rosado had an excellent right punch in his last fight, so we want to prepare to prevent him from giving him that advantage. We have been working a lot on my speed and making sure I can move.

“Yes, I won a world title at 24. But also, all these years I have gained a lot of experience. I feel like my boxing has improved, and we are ready for bigger challenges. After Rosado, there has been a lot of talk about a fight with DOMANCHENKO, Jacobs, and Golovkin.

“This is going to be a fun night, a night full of punches. It will be a war. Everyone knows that Mexico vs. Puerto Rico are always great fights. I honestly see a very motivated Gabe Rosado. He is strong and willing to give a good fight. I can assure you that we will leave everything in the ring and bring something great on fight night.”

Tickets for Munguia vs. Rosado are on sale now and are priced at $250, $150, $100, and $50 not including applicable service charges. Tickets will be available for purchase at ticketmaster.com. Please note that California Department of Health guidelines and other protocols relating to admission requirements may be in place for this event, which may include a requirement that all guests show proof of a negative COVID-19 test or full vaccination status.

Munguia vs. Rosado is a 12-round fight for the WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Title presented by Golden Boy in association with Zanfer Promotions. The event is sponsored by Tecate “The Official Beer of Boxing,” Hennessy “Never Stop. Never Settle,” and “BetOnline – Your Online Sportsbook Experts.” The fight will take place on Saturday, November 13, and live exclusively on DAZN worldwide, excluding Mexico, starting at 6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET.

LOS ANGELES – BELLATOR MMA announced today that current 145-pound world champion and top-ranked women’s pound-for-pound fighter Cris “Cyborg” will make her third straight featherweight title defense when she takes on the No. 5-ranked contender and Irish boxing sensation Sinead Kavanagh at BELLATOR MMA 271, Friday, Nov. 12, from Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

SHOWTIME will televise the main card live at 10 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT. Additionally, the preliminary card will airlive on the BELLATOR and SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channels, as well as Pluto TV.

Additional bouts and ticket information for BELLATOR MMA 271: Cyborg vs. Kavanagh will be announced in the coming weeks.

Only the second BELLATOR woman’s featherweight champion in the company’s history, “Cyborg” (24-2, 1 NC) aims to further her legacy as the greatest women’s mixed martial artist of all time when she battles the pride of Dublin less than two weeks before Thanksgiving.

Currently fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev., “Cyborg” is coming off the second defense of her BELLATOR crown when she scored a vicious TKO over Leslie Smith at 4:51 of the fifth round in May 2021. After previously holding gold in STRIKEFORCE, UFC and Invicta, the Brazilian native made history by capturing the BELLATOR title to become a “Grand Slam Champion” with belts in four different organizations. The hard-hitting, 36-year-old sports 20 wins by finish with victories over punishing competition, including Julia Budd, Holly Holm, Smith (twice), Marloes Coenen, and Gina Carano.

Kavanagh (7-4), a winner of her last two BELLATOR outings, strives to live up to her “KO” moniker when she attempts to stop the sport’s most dominant female athlete. The former amateur boxing champion is poised for the breakout moment of her career at BELLATOR MMA 271 when the SBG Ireland-product attempts to do what only two other women fighters have previously accomplished; defeat “Cyborg.”

NEW OPPONENT FOR INAUGURAL WBC BRIDGERWEIGHT WORLD TITLE FIGHT “THE CONQUEST: OSCAR RIVAS VS. RYAN ROZICKI”

MONTREAL (October 6, 2021) — The inaugural World Boxing Council (WBC) Bridgerweight World Championship fight (under 224 lbs.) will take place on October 22nd, promoted by Groupe Yvon Groupe (GYM) in collaboration with Three Lions Promotions, and a presentation of Mise-O-Jeu, at the Montreal Olympia.

As recently announced by the WBC, No. 1 contender Oscar “Kaboom” Rivas (27-1, 19 KOs) will face Ryan “The Bruiser” Rozicki (13-0, 13 KOs) to headline “The Conquest” in the 12-round main event for the vacant WBC title.

Rozicki is a powerful, undefeated puncher who has won each of his thirteen professional fights by knockout. His record includes his win over Shawn Miller (18-4-1, 7 KO) in May 2019 for the WBC International Silver crown, as well as the defense of the same title in February 2020 against Vladimir Reznicek (9-2-2, 4 KOs).

By his uncompromising style, “Bruiser” became very popular especially in English-speaking Canada. “Rivas will be my toughest opponent yet,” Rozicki explained. “It’s everything I’ve dreamed of since I started boxing. Thanks to Yvon Michel and my promotional team for making this possible. On October 22nd, I will become world champion.”

In front of him stands an opponent who has been waiting for his chance for a long time, top contender Rivas, who easily disposed of Sylvera Louis (8-5, 4 KOs) by retirement after three rounds last March. Rivas, of course, was the victim of a very controversial defeat in July 2019 in England to Dillian Whyte (25-1), by way of a 12-round decision despite having sent him to the mat in the ninth round.

“Oscar Rivas is in the best shape of his career,” according to his trainer, Marc Ramsay. “I know Rozicki very well and he is very dangerous. He reminds me of a big Joe Smith, Jr., who without being the best technician, compensates with enthusiasm, aggressiveness and determination in the ring “

This fight turns out to be more than a major one for the careers of the two pugilists. The winner will be crowned king of this new division. The historic showdown marks the return of American television to Canada for the first time since December 2018 as it will be broadcast live on ESPN + in the United States. In total, this prestigious gala will also be broadcast live in nearly fifty countries. In Quebec, the event will be available on pay-per-view television on Canal Indigo, Bell TV, Shaw TV and Fite.tv.

In the co-featured event, charismatic Sébastien Bouchard (19-2-0, 8 KOs) will be in his second fight of 2021, after suffering a major injury against Ayaz Hussain in 2019. He will face Mexican welterweight Sergio “Checo” Ortega (24-2-0, 18 KOs), of Baja California, Mexico, in an explosive 8-round duel.

With his third knockout victory this past August 28th in as many career fights, Alexis Barrière (3-0, 3 KOs) will return to the Olympia ring. This time around, the heavyweight will face Rafael “Rafaga” Sanchez Rojas (5-1, 3 KOs), of Mexico, in a 4-round clash.

As expected, the 6-round rematch between Alexandre Roberge (1-1-0) and Francis Charbonneau (3-1-0, 1 KO.) remains on this card. The two cruiserweights caused quite a stir on March 16th in their 6-round confrontation, which Charbonneau won by way of split decision.

Canadian light heavyweight prospect Terry Osias (9-0, 4 KOs) was supposed to have a fabulous 2020 with a series of fights planned at the Casino de Montreal. The pandemic decided otherwise, though. Osias finally finds his way into the ring again on Oct. 22nd against his Mexican opponent, Joaquin Murrieta (9-9-3, 7 KOs), who has won his last two fights by knockout.

Middleweight Kevin Menoche (4-0, 4 KOs) will put his undefeated pro record on the line versus Thad Ridsdill (2-2, 1 KO).

So, a colorful evening awaits boxing fans Oct. 22nd at the Olympia in Montreal. In fact, GYM will be promoting its 49th world championship fight in Canada since its founding in 2004.

THREE-WEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION RICKY BURNS JOINS PROBELLUM

Probellum can today proudly announce the promotional signing of Scotland’s only ever three-weight world champion Ricky Burns.

Burns (43-8-1, 16 knockouts) is one of the most successful boxers of the last decade, holding world titles at super-featherweight, lightweight and super-lightweight between 2010 and 2017.

During that time, the Scottish hero earned memorable wins over fighters such as Michael Katsidis, Kiryl Relikh, Roman Martinez and Kevin Mitchell, whilst also sharing the ring with the likes of Terence Crawford and Ray Beltran.

To this day, Burns remains one of the best Scottish fighters ever produced, having competed on 52 occasions in his illustrious professional career, with 13 of those being world title bouts.

He is the latest high-profile signing to team up with Probellum, after former world champions Regis Prograis and Badou Jack joined earlier this week.

From my conversations with Probellum it’s clear that we share the same vision and goals, so I’m looking forward to stepping back into the ring soon and having a powerhouse like them backing me.”

“We are ecstatic to announce the promotional signing of three-weight world champion Ricky Burns,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum. “Ricky is one of the best fighters of this generation, and there are still some huge nights ahead of him.

“Scottish boxing is at an all-time high at the moment with fighters such as Josh Taylor, Lee McGregor and Kash Farooq flying the flag, but Ricky remains a national hero. He hasn’t had the chance to fight in Scotland since 2017, and there are going to be endless possibilities for him after joining us here at Probellum.”

COURTENAY – THAT WORLD TITLE IS STAYING IN ENGLAND

Shannon Courtenay has dreams of unifying the Bantamweight division but must first navigate a tricky maiden WBA World Title defence against undefeated American Jamie Mitchell on the undercard of Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowlerat the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool this Saturday October 9, live worldwide on DAZN

‘The Baby Face Assassin’ (7-1, 3 KOs), who is set to fight in Liverpool for the first time as a professional this weekend, picked up the black and gold belt after defeating Australia’s Ebanie Bridges on points following a punishing battle at the Copper Box Arena in April.

The 28-year-old from Watford isn’t taking ‘The Miracle’ Mitchell lightly and is relishing pitting herself against the former amateur standout who trains at the famous Mayweather Gym in Las Vegas under the tutelage of former professional boxer Dewey Cooper.

“To be honest with you, after Rachel Ball pulled out we could have taken a nice easy defence,” said Courtenay. “We picked someone who was ranked number one in America. I’m not here to play games. I want good defences because I know it’s only going to get harder. Mark my words, that World Title is staying in England.

“She’s from the Mayweather Gym so she has that nice slick defensive movement about her. She’s got a lovely jab. She had a good amateur career. She’s a big name in America. Her name carries a bit of weight. She starts sharp and has good torso and head movement. Physically she has the same structure as me. It’s going to be a good fight. We both hit quite hard.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, but I’d be lying if I said I was content, because I’m not content. I thought I would wake up after winning the World Title feeling content, but I didn’t. I want more now; I want more titles and I want to go on and unify the division. I’m happy and I’m proud but I’m not content – I want more!

“You’ve seen the power that I have, I can cause concussive one-punch knockouts, which not many women can do. Of course I believe I can do that to anyone in the division. And still! That belt is coming home with me. Nobody is taking it off me. I respect any fighter, especially someone that can get ranked in America. You know that they’re going to bring fire, so I’m just prepared for a good fight.”

MANN: IT DOESN’T MATTER WHERE I’M FIGHTING, I’M READY TO SHOW THE WORLD WHAT I CAN DO

Artur Mann (17-1, 9 KOs) insists he will not be intimidated by Mairis Briedis’ (27-1, 19 KOs) fervent home support as he looks to dethrone the Latvian boxing king on October 16 and bring the IBF and Ring Magazine World Cruiserweight Titles back to Germany.

Briedis has turned the Arena Riga into his hometown fortress with thousands of Latvian fans filling the ice hockey stadium each time he fights. Like Briedis’ previous opponents, Mann can expect a cold reception when he enters the ring, but despite being away from home and up against the world’s number one Cruiserweight, the former WBO International Champion and IBO World Title Challenger is confident of upsetting the local hero and bringing home the belts.

“It’s really exciting to know that there are going to be thousands of people in the arena to watch the fight,” says Mann. “It doesn’t matter if they are going to be booing me. Anyone who has ever stood in the ring knows that after the bell rings there is nothing except you and the fighter in front of you. It doesn’t matter where I’m fighting. I just concentrate on myself and my game plan.

“I do this for myself and my beliefs, not for belts, not for money. I do this to prove to myself and to my five-year-old son that I can achieve anything. I learnt a lot from my World Title fight with Kevin Lerena and now I’m 100% pumped and ready to show the world what I can do on October 16.”

Mairis Briedis defends his IBF and Ring Magazine World Cruiserweight Titles against Artur Mann on October 16 at the Arena Riga in Latvia. Tickets are on sale now and available to purchase via https://www.bilesuserviss.lv.

MCGRAIL: I COULDN’T ASK FOR A BETTER DEBUT!

Peter McGrail says he couldn’t have wished for a better platform to make his professional debut on as he prepares to battle Ed Harrison in a six-round Super-Bantamweight contest on the undercard of Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowler at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool this Saturday October 9, live worldwide on DAZN

One of Merseyside’s most decorated amateur boxers, McGrail first broke through with bronze medals at the Youth Olympics and World Youth Championships back in 2014. The gifted southpaw then won gold at the European Championships in Kharkiv in 2017 before winning Commonwealth gold a year later in Australia.

The 25-year-old Liverpudlian, who trains out of the renowned Everton Red Triangle Gym on Albion Street under Paul Stevenson, was hotly-tipped for a Featherweight medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games but succumbed to a premature defeat against Thai fighter Chatchai-decha Butdee in the opening round.

“I won seven National Titles growing up,” said McGrail. “I went to the Youth Worlds and got a bronze. Then I qualified for the Youth Olympics and got a bronze. It was after that I joined Team GB. My best achievement was when I won the Europeans fighting a Ukrainian in Ukraine in the final. I knew if I won that I was the first ever Scouser.

“You’ve seen the Scousers that have come out of this city. For me to win that and be the first ever Scouser was boss for my family. It was boss for me and boss for the gym. I needed the Olympic medal, but it wasn’t to be. I’m still proud of my career. It was sad but it was exciting at the same time because I knew it was time for the new chapter to begin which I’ve been waiting for for years.

“I’m a proud Scouser, whenever there’s a Scouser fighting I’m always rooting for them. The likes of Tony Bellew and Callum Smith – former World Champions. Everyone in our gym, we’re all looking to follow in their footsteps. I love Liverpool. I trained down in Sheffield for years but I always used to miss home. When I’d come home I was always a bit happier.

“I can’t ask for a better debut. It’s not just a little show in Liverpool, it’s a proper heavy bill. It’s a naughty main event. I’m looking forward to it. I want to become a World Champion. I want to bring big nights to Liverpool. I want to make my mum, my dad and my family proud, and hopefully make loads of money as well. I’m going to be pushing on to bigger and better things.”

McGrail vs. Harrison is part of a stacked night of action in Liverpool, former WBO Super-Welterweight Word Champion Liam Smith (29-3-1, 16 KOs) meets 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Anthony Fowler (15-1, 12 KOs) in a massive all-Liverpool clash for local bragging rights, Ted Cheeseman (17-2-1, 10 KOs) puts his British Super-Welterweight Title on the line against Troy Williamson (16-0-1, 12 KOs) following his brilliant stoppage win over James Metcalf in Gibraltar, WBA Bantamweight World Champion Shannon Courtenay (7-1, 3 KOs) defends her crown for the first time against the USA’s Jamie Mitchell (6-0-2, 4 KOs), Northampton’s Kieron Conway (16-2-1, 3 KOs) looks to bounce back from his loss to Souleymane Cissokho on the Canelo vs. Saunders undercard when he meets James Metcalf (21-1, 13 KOs), Tony Bellew-managed Lightweight Luke Willis (10-0, 1 KO) clashes with Norwich’s Rylan Charlton (6-1-1, 3 KOs), two-time World Title challenger Natasha Jonas (9-2-1, 7 KOs) returns after her thrilling fight with Katie Taylor in May, Birmingham Heavyweight hope Solomon Dacres (2-0, 1 KO) steps up against the experienced Kamil Sokolowski (10-22-2, 4 KOs) in just his third fight, Wigan Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (3-0) fights for the second time this year and Blane Hyland (4-1) meets Santiago San Eusebio (3-1-2, 2 KOs) in a four round Super-Flyweight contest.
