Top Cruiserweight Constantin Bejenaru Returns November 6 to Face Undefeated Danish Prospect Ditlev Rossing in Crossroads Showdown

Heading into an opponent’s backyard to fight for the second consecutive time, world-class cruiserweight contender Constantin Bejenaru says he knows he has to be more aggressive on Saturday, November 6, if he’s to pull off the victory over undefeated Ditlev “D-struct” Rossing of Denmark as one of the headlining bouts at ‘Danish Fight Night, presented by Hall of Fame Promoter Mogens Palle at the Brondby Hall on the outskirts of Copenhagen.

Bejenaru (14-1, 4 KOs) and Rossing (14-0, 9 KOs) will meet over 10 tough rounds in one of the main attractions of the evening. The other headlining showdown is an IBF Female Featherweight Championship defense by Danish star Sarah Mahfoud.
Coming off a long layoff since suffering his first professional loss in a fight for the WBA ‘super’ title against Arsen Goulamirian in December 2019, Bejenaru says that while his training has been mostly “business as usual,” he will be coming into the fight with a different mindset than his last.

“After my last fight, I know I need to have more confidence and make certain adjustments during fights,” said Bejenaru. “With that lesson, I believe that I can become a world champion and this is the first step towards that. As far as ring rust, I have been in the gym since I was 9 years old, so even between fights I am in the gym five days a week. Not just for boxing but and for my health. Sport gave me an addiction, but at least this is a good addiction.”

A crafty 5? 11? southpaw living in Brooklyn via Ungheni, Moldova, Bejenaru is a former highly decorated amateur. He was a 10-time Romanian champion, a Bronze Medalist at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2006, a Finalist in the European Union Championships in both 2006 and 2007, and a Gold Medalist at World Combat Games in 2010.

Despite all the fistic accomplishments on his resume, Bejenaru says the relatively untested Rossing will still be a dangerous foe, especially in his own backyard.

“Of course, he will have a lot of his supporters but that doesn’t bother me. This is boxing, and it will just be me and him in the ring,” explained Bejenaru. “He is a pretty good boxer with a good amateur background, and he is undefeated in his professional career. I saw some of his fights, and he has good boxing skills. He has a good jab, and he can work in offense and defense. I’m taking this fight seriously because I think it will be a good challenge for both of us.”

“This victory over a highly-touted undefeated prospect will put Constantin back in the discussion of the world’s best cruiserweights,” said his promoter, Dmitriy Salita. “He is looking sharper than ever in the gym as he prepares for this important crossroads battle.”

Super middleweight Manuel “El Meno” Gallegos Ready to go to war vs. Gabriel “Drago” Lopez”

LAS VEGAS (October 4, 2021) – Much is at stake for Manuel “El Meno” Gallegos (18-1, 15 KOs) when he takes on Gabriel “Drago” Lopez (10-5-1, 7 KOs) in the October 14th RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS 51 main event at Auditorio Benito Juarez in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Arguably the best Mexican super middleweight outside of Saul Canelo” Alvarez, Gallegos needs to defeat Lopez to maintain his status in Mexican boxing, as well as position himself for a showdown against undefeated Guatemalan Lester Martinez (9-0, 9 KOs), who makes his first WBO Latino Super Middleweight title defense against in the 10-round co-featured event versus Cuban challenger, Raiko Santana (8-2, 5 KOs).

“After ‘Canelo,’ right now, I’m the best super middleweight of Mexico, without a doubt,” Gallegos said. “If he (Martinez) and I both win, it’ll be a big fight for me. I’m only concentrating on Lopez fight now. I don’t think about Lester or whatever, just Lopez, for now, because it is going to be a really hard fight for me.

“I feel he will start fast, wanting me to feel his power, but I am ready to go to war right now. It will be a brawl and I don’t believe this fight goes the distance.”

Gallegos is a student of Mexican boxing, idolized greats such as Julio Cesar Chavez, St. Juan Manuel Marquez, and Erik Morales. “El Meno” is coming off an impressive 10-round unanimous decision win over Kevin Newman II (11-2-1) this past June, also on an RJJ Boxing card that streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS. The only loss on Gallegos’ pro record is to Oziel Santoya Bravo (10-1-1) a year ago.

“I am too young to have watched Chavez Sr.,” Gallegos concluded. “I never saw him fight, but my dad told me he was the best. I saw his fights on YouTube. I saw Marquez fight and admired his warrior heart, discipline, and technique. Morales always brought great fights for fans.”

Also scheduled to fight Oct. 14th on RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS is WBC Youth Council Silver Lightweight Champion Luis “Koreano” Torres (12-0, 8 KOs), who will be fighting in seventh straight appearance on RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS. And the latest member of the famed Montiel boxing family, 19-year-old undefeated lightweight prospect Jorgo “Jorgito” Lugo Cota (4-0, 4 KOs), who meets Edgar Almeda (4-2-1, 3 KOs) in his first slated 6-round bout.

RDR Promotions Signs Super Middleweight Contender Jesse Hart

PHILADELPHIA (October 4, 2021)–RDR Promotions is pleased to announce the signing of super middleweight contender Jesse Hart.

“We are very happy to sign Jesse. Jesse is still one of the top super middleweights in the world, and he is very close to getting a big fight that will put him right back in the title hunt. Expect to see Jesse in a big fight very soon,” said Rodney Rice of RDR Promotions.

“I think this is a good deal for both me and RDR Promotions. I think going forward, I will be back to 100% of where I was very soon, and the biggest goal is to keep me active, and I know Rodney will do that. I was told I will be back in November,” said Hart.

Hart of Philadelphia, has a record of 27-3 with 21 knockouts.

After a stellar amateur career, the now 32 year-old Hart turned professional on June 9, 2012 with a first-round stoppage over Manuel Eastman. In that bout, which took place on December 14, 2018, Hart was on the wrong side of a razor thin majority decision.

Hart then moved up to light heavyweight and defeated former world title challenger Sullivan Barrera (22-2). After dropping a battle to future light heavyweight champion Joe Smith, Hart returned home to defeat tough veteran Mike Guy on September 17th.

ANDRADE DEFENDS WBO CROWN AGAINST QUIGLEY ON NOV 19

Demetrius Andrade will top a World title quadruple-header as he defends his WBO World Middleweight against Jason Quigley at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire on Friday November 19, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE THIS WEEK – FULL DETAILS TO BE RELEASED

Andrade (30-0 18 KOs) puts his crown on the line for the fifth time and the Rhode Island star will be looking for a statement win as he hunts the unification blockbusters with his fellow belt holders at 160lbs. The 33 year old, who picked up the vacant strap in his first fight with Eddie Hearn in Boston in October 2018, will make it five straight fights with European challengers when he steps through the ropes against Quigley.

Quigley (19-1 14 KOs) moved into prime position to land a World title shot in May by beating Golden Boy stablemate Shane Mosley Jr by majority decision in a thriller in Las Vegas, and the former amateur star becomes the second Irishman to challenge ‘Boo Boo’ after Luke Keeler took on the WBO ruler in Miami in January 2020.

“November 19, it’s me again,” said Andrade. “Jason Quigley, world rated, good amateur pedigree, decent skills, comes to fight, and hats off to him, he’s actually willing to step in the ring with me, which you can’t say for any of these other so-called top guys. On November 19 though I show him that there are levels to this game.

Just keep winning, that’s all I can do. Go in there, handle my business, do my job, look sensational, come out healthy and then it’s onto the next. If you have a belt at 160 or 168 lbs, let’s go. Put the politics aside, have your people call Eddie. Let’s get down to business. Charlo, stop running your mouth, making up excuse after excuse. You’re a fighter, let’s fight bro. GGG, where you at? Unify against Murata and then let’s put the three belts on the line next year.

“Canelo you going to run up to 175? Cool, I can meet you there, no problem. First things first though, I need to go out on November 19, defend my championship belt, and put on a spectacular performance, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing.”

“I’ve worked my whole career to get into this position of becoming world champion,” said Quigley. “Demetrius is a great champion but now it’s my time and that World title is coming back to Ireland.”

Three more World title fights in support of Andrade’s clash with Quigley are led by Murodjon Akhmadaliev defending his IBF and WBA World Super Bantamweight titles against Ronny Rios.

Akhmadaliev (9-0 7 KOs) was at his spiteful best last time out, putting the challenge of Ryosuke Iwasa to bed in the fifth round of his first professional outing in his homeland of Uzbekistan. ‘MJ’, who became unified champion in just his eighth fight in the paid ranks by ripping the belts from Daniel Roman, puts the belts on the line for the second time in New Hampshire and does so against his WBA mandatory challenger and #1 in the rankings.

Rios (33-3 16 KOs) is in great form heading into his second World title challenge, heading to the east coast on the back of four wins, the latest being the only one to go the distance in February in Indio, California with a wide points win over Oscar Negrete.

“I would like to thank my promoters Eddie Hearn and Andrei Ryabinsky for the opportunity to defend my titles in New Hampshire,” said Akhmadaliev. “I’m living and training in Indio, so I know how people love and appreciate boxing here.

“It will be my second mandatory challenger in a row, he’s a good fighter and I expect it to be a great fight for everybody to enjoy! As always, I’m working hard with my coaches Antonio and Joel Diaz, and we’ll be prepared to defend what belongs to us!”

“Who is the best to beat at my weight class? It’s MJ so I am here to challenge myself with this task and I’m confident in my ability and my team to come out victorious,” said Rios. “On November 19th you will see a new world champion added to the Golden Boy stable”

The third world title fight is pits Mexico vs. Puerto Rico and it’s the long-awaited showdown between Julio Cesar Martinez and McWilliams Arroyo.

Mexican Martinez (18-1 14 KOs) returned to action in typically entertaining fashion in June, stopping Joel Cordova in Guadalajara to successfully defend his WBC World Flyweight title for the third time. It will be third time lucky for the Arroyo clash, with Covid squashing the first attempt to pit them together in Tulsa in May 2020 and then a hand injury to Martinez ruled him out in fight week when they were due to clash on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez’s clash with Avni Yildirim in Miami in February.

Puerto Rican Arroyo (21-4 16 KOs) was able to taste action that night and picked up the Interim title at the home of the Miami Dolphins with a fifth round win over Abraham Rodriguez, and will be desperate to upgrade and rip the full title from Martinez as they finally get to tangle.

“It is great that we are finally able to get this fight,” said Martinez. “We have tried twice to do it but that’s all in the past and now we’re going to go to war on October 16.

“McWilliams is a strong challenger for the belt but I feel fantastic and I am ready to prove that I am the man to beat at Flyweight.”

“This fight has been asked for and the fans will finally get a great battle on November 19,” said Arroyo. “I hope he will come prepared because I am going to be 100 per cent ready and confident that I will be victorious.”

The fourth World title bout on the bill is the second step on the path to crowing an undisputed women’s champion at 140lbs as Kali Reis takes on Jessica Camara for the WBA, IBO and vacant WBO straps.

Two-weight champion Reis (18-7-1 5 KOs) added the IBO title to her WBA crown last time out with a majority decision win over Australian Diana Prazak, and the Rhode Island champion and former WBC Middleweight ruler will be looking to add another title through victory over Camara (8-2), the Canadian that bounced back from defeat to Melissa St Vil with a confidence boosting win over Heather Hardy in May – and the stakes couldn’t be higher with the winner set to face the victor of the with October 30 clash between WBC champion Chantelle Cameron and IBF champion Mary McGee at The O2 in London, England.

“I am in this tournament to collect all of the belts and become undisputed champion,” said Reis. “I want to thank DAZN, Lou DiBella and Eddie Hearn for this tremendous opportunity,” said Kali Reis. “Jessica is a talented fighter, but she will not deter me from achieving my goal. No one will.”

“This is going to be a fun fight for the fans and a great fight for women’s boxing,” said Camara. “Kali will be a tough opponent, but I will be ready. On November 19, I will become a world champion. Thank you to DAZN, Lou DiBella and Eddie Hearn for putting this historic tournament together to crown an undisputed super lightweight champion.”

“This is a fantastic quadruple header of World title action,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Demetrius wants to show the other champions that he is the man to beat at Middleweight, so he needs to put on a big performance against a hungry and proud Irish challenger in Jason.

“MJ is one of the best fighters in the world and he’s still in single figures as a pro, I think that we’re going to see a special performance against a tough foe in Ronny. Julio is one of the most entertaining fighters out there right now and there’s nothing less than fireworks expected as he finally gets in there with McWilliams. And finally, Kali and Jessica are one win away from the chance to fight to be the undisputed Super Lightweight champion – this is a night of action not to be missed.”

“This is a fantastic card for fans to enjoy worldwide on DAZN, and a great example of our two partners Matchroom and Golden Boy working together to put on excellent shows,” said Ed Breeze, EVP Rights at DAZN. “Jason Quigley steps up against one of the toughest challenges in the middleweight division, the flawless and reigning WBO champion, Demetrius Andrade. What a night of boxing we have on our hands, and we’re thrilled to deliver this fight to DAZN subscribers on November 19.”

“I am delighted to be able to partner up again with Matchroom to deliver the best fights for fight fans on November 19,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “Four world titles will be on the line as some of our formable, most exciting fighters take on the toughest challenges of their career to prove they are the best in their weight divisions. First, McWilliams Arroyo, will be is exercising his mandatory challenge for the WBC World Flyweight Championship against Julio Cesar Martinez.

“Next, our very own Ronny Rios, who’s been on a winning streak since 2019, challenges Murodjon Akhmadaliev for the WBA and IBF Super Bantamweight World Titles.  Finally, one of my favorite Golden Boy fighters, Jason Quigley will challenge Demetrius Andrade for the WBO Middleweight Title after a stellar performance against Shane Mosley Jr in May.  I am fully confident in my fighters coming out successful and am looking forward to adding three new world champions to our Golden Boy roster.”

WILLIAMSON – I’LL BE GOING HOME WITH THE BRITISH TITLE

Troy Williamson is determined to prove that he is the number one 154lbs fighter in the country when he takes on two-time British Super-Welterweight Champion Ted Cheeseman for the Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belt at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool this Saturday October 9, live worldwide on DAZN

‘Trojan’ (16-0-1, 12 KOs) landed his shot at the famous belt by stopping Scotland’s Kieran Smith in six rounds of their Final Eliminator at York Hall earlier this year, and the chiselled 30-year-old from Darlington believes that a win over Cheeseman will place him at the top the stacked 154lbs division.

Williamson, who spent two years with the Team GB set up in Sheffield during his amateur days, concedes that Cheeseman has the upper hand in terms of the level or previous opponents faced, but insists that this won’t matter when the bell rings and he takes on his toughest challenge to date.

“I’ve been saying for years that I deserve the chance to be involved in these big fights,” said Williamson. “I’ve told everyone that I’m good enough and this is my chance to prove it. I believe that I’m the best 154lbs fighter in the division.

“I’ve been offered some big fights in the past and I’ve accepted them all. It’s just unfortunate that some of them never happened for whatever reason. As soon as the Ted Cheeseman fight got mentioned I accepted it because he’s a warrior.

“This Saturday we’re getting down to business. Ted is a great two-time British Champion. That says it all. He’s the number one fighter in the division. You can’t deny that. I just know what I possess and what I’m going to bring on the night. I’ll be going home with the British Title.

“We’ve had a similar number of fights; I think he’s had one or two more fights than me. I’ve not had it the easy way. I’ve had it tough when I had to sell tickets myself on these small hall shows. I’ve not had no bums just to knock over. I’ve come through the hard way and it will show on the night that experience won’t matter.

“You’re going to see the best of me on Saturday. The better the opponent, the better version of Troy Williamson you’ll see. Ted Cheeseman is the biggest fight of my career and he’s probably the best fighter I’ve boxed in my career. It’s going to be a cracker, there’s going to be fireworks.

“I carry power in both hands. If I hit anyone on the chin at 11st in 10oz gloves I’m going to hurt them. If the stoppage comes it comes. We both like to have a tear up, we’re both fit and both very tough. I’m not one to backdown from a fight. When the big fights come I’ll always take them and so will Ted.”

Cheeseman vs. Williamson is part of a stacked night of action in Liverpool, former WBO Super-Welterweight Word Champion Liam Smith (29-3-1, 16 KOs) meets 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Anthony Fowler (15-1, 12 KOs) in a massive all-Liverpool clash for local bragging rights, WBA Bantamweight World Champion Shannon Courtenay (7-1, 3 KOs) defends her crown for the first time against the USA’s Jamie Mitchell (6-0-2, 4 KOs), Northampton’s Kieron Conway (16-2-1, 3 KOs) looks to bounce back from his loss to Souleymane Cissokho on the Canelo vs. Saunders undercard when he meets James Metcalf (21-1, 13 KOs), decorated amateur star Peter McGrail makes his highly anticipated professional debut against Ed Harrison (2-8), Tony Bellew-managed Lightweight Luke Willis (10-0, 1 KO) clashes with Norwich’s Rylan Charlton (6-1-1, 3 KOs), two-time World Title challenger Natasha Jonas (9-2-1, 7 KOs) returns after her thrilling fight with Katie Taylor in May, Birmingham Heavyweight hope Solomon Dacres (2-0, 1 KO) steps up against the experienced Kamil Sokolowski (10-22-2, 4 KOs) in just his third fight, Wigan Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (3-0) fights for the second time this year and Blane Hyland (4-1) meets Santiago San Eusebio (3-1-2, 2 KOs) in a four round Super-Flyweight contest.

CONWAY – I CAN SEE A STOPPAGE AROUND MIDWAY

Kieron Conway says he will be too big and too strong for James Metcalf when they clash in a must-win Super-Welterweight showdown this Saturday October 9 at the sold-out M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, live worldwide on DAZN.

Both men will be hoping to return to winning ways after suffering losses in their last fights – Conway at the hands of Frenchman Souleymane Cissokho on the huge Canelo vs. Saunders card in Texas and Metcalf at the hands of Ted Cheeseman in a brilliant British Title clash in Gibraltar.

‘Too Class’ (16-2-1, 3 KOs), who fought to a draw with Cheeseman when they met at Bethnal Green’s York Hall back in June 2019, wasn’t overawed when he stepped out to box in front of 70,000 fans at the AT&T Stadium and is relishing facing Liverpudlian Metcalf on away territory.

“He likes to move his feet in and out and side to side,” said Conway. “He’ll try to make it hard for me. Those things aren’t going to matter. We’ve all been hit hard, and I’ve been hit harder than James Metcalf can hit. I’m going to be ready for anything that he throws at me.

“I’m a big guy for the weight and he’s a small guy. He should be a weight below. Physical attributes are going to play a big part in this fight from the get-go. My boxing skills, knowledge and experience is going to come in to play as the fight goes on.

“I can see a stoppage happening around midway. I’m going to hit him a lot of times. I see me taking centre of the ring and him trying to push me back. I’ll do whatever I’ve got to do, not necessarily pushing him back, but I’ll take the centre of the ring and I’ll keep it.

“He’ll try and rough up, make it a mess, swing and try to knock me out. At the end of the day, his only chance is to knock me out. JJ’s fight with Ted Cheeseman was an outstanding fight, but you don’t need to be in those fights, especially when you’re getting on a bit in your career.

“I’m not sure who has more pressure on their shoulders. I do know that there’s pressure on me to win this fight. It’s not affecting me, because what will be will be. What will be is a Kieron Conway win. British level isn’t all that Conway will be, and I’m ready to prove that now.”

Conway vs. Metcalf is part of a stacked night of action in Liverpool, former WBO Super-Welterweight Word Champion Liam Smith (29-3-1, 16 KOs) meets 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Anthony Fowler (15-1, 12 KOs) in a massive all-Liverpool clash for local bragging rights, Ted Cheeseman (17-2-1, 10 KOs) puts his British Super-Welterweight Title on the line against Troy Williamson (16-0-1, 12 KOs) following his brilliant stoppage win over James Metcalf in Gibraltar, WBA Bantamweight World Champion Shannon Courtenay (7-1, 3 KOs) defends her crown for the first time against the USA’s Jamie Mitchell (6-0-2, 4 KOs), decorated amateur star Peter McGrail makes his highly anticipated professional debut, Tony Bellew-managed Lightweight Luke Willis (10-0, 1 KO) clashes with Norwich’s Rylan Charlton (6-1-1, 3 KOs), two-time World Title challenger Natasha Jonas (9-2-1, 7 KOs) returns after her thrilling fight with Katie Taylor in May, Birmingham Heavyweight hope Solomon Dacres (2-0, 1 KO) steps up against the experienced Kamil Sokolowski (10-22-2, 4 KOs) in just his third fight, Wigan Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (3-0) takes on Anaelle Angerville (1-1-1) over four rounds and Blane Hyland (4-1) meets Santiago San Eusebio (3-1-2, 2 KOs) in a four round Super-Flyweight contest.

MANN COACH: ARTUR HAS THE POWER TO HURT BRIEDIS

Artur Mann’s (17-1, 9 KOs) coach Vitali Boot believes his fighter has the power to hurt Mairis Briedis (27-1, 19 KOs) when they meet for the IBF and Ring Magazine World Cruiserweight Titles on October 16 at the Arena Riga in Latvia.

Mann, the former WBO International Champion and IBO World Cruiserweight Title challenger, travels to Riga to take on reigning world champion Brieids in his hometown following an explosive KO victory over Rad Rashid.

Helping the challenger prepare is long-time coach and mentor Boot, a seven-time German national Super Heavyweight champion and 2001 World Amateur Championship bronze medallist, who now trains fighters out of the Olympic Headquarters in Hannover, Germany.

“Artur has the power to hurt Briedis,” says Boot. “Any boxer who is almost 100kg has the power to hurt his opponent and Briedis is only human so yes, I believe Artur can hurt him.

“He will need to be highly concentrated during the whole fight, stick to the game plan and keep ahead of the situation even when under pressure.

“He won’t be concerned about fighting away from home or having the fans against him. He has had that over and over again in his career so this is not new for him.

“Artur’s greatest strength is his technical ability. He’s like a sponge, you show him something new and he can implement it in his work in a split second.

“I have been training Artur more or less since he started boxing. This is a big opportunity for him and one I believe he will take. On October 16, we will see a new world champion.”

Mairis Briedis defends his IBF and Ring Magazine World Cruiserweight Titles against Artur Mann on October 16 at the Arena Riga in Latvia. Tickets are on sale now and available to purchase via https://www.bilesuserviss.lv

MURATOV UNABLE TO FIGHT AFTER CONCERNS RAISED IN PRE-FIGHT MEDICALS

London, England – (October 2, 2021) – The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) having raised concerns over Anatoli Muratov’s pre-fight medicals, he is now unable to fight in tonight’s bout with Chris Eubank Jr. at the SSE Arena, Wembley.

With the health and safety of our boxers being of paramount concern and the remaining time frame allowing no possibility of finding a replacement opponent of suitable quality, the bout has been cancelled and Eubank will not be appearing on tonight’s card.

The highly anticipated European Welterweight Championship fight between David Avanesyan and Manchester’s Liam Taylor has been elevated to the top of the stacked card which includes the English Super-Middleweight title eliminator between Germaine Brown and Jamal Le Doux; the exciting return of Britain’s most exciting cruiserweight Richard Riakporhe; the pro-debut of elite amateur Ebonie Jones; the return of cruiserweight talent Mikael Lawal; dynamite-punching Joe Pigford; rising middleweight star Linus Udofia; hotly-tipped super bantamweight prospect Alireza Ghadiri and undefeated flyweight Harvey Horn.

“It is an extremely unfortunate situation for Chris. However, the health and safety of boxers is always our number one concern and at this late stage it has not been possible to find a suitable replacement,” said Kalle Sauerland, Head of Global Boxing at Wasserman.

“I know Chris was looking forward to fighting tonight at the The SSE Arena, Wembley and starring as the new face of Sky Sports Boxing. We are already in discussions regarding a new date for Chris and fans can expect to see him back in the ring very soon.”

Adam Smith, Sky Sports Head of Boxing, said, “I feel very strongly that first and foremost, the health and safety of all fighters is paramount.

“We’re hugely disappointed for Chris Eubank Jr, who has a big role to play in our new era on Sky Sports Boxing, and he will return on one of our shows in the coming weeks.

“David Avanesyan now tops tonight’s action-packed bill with his European title fight and we’ll bring you some of the most exciting talent in British boxing, with Richard Riakporhe, Ebonie Jones, and Germaine Brown all receiving their chance to shine on Sky Sports.”

“Obviously we are all disappointed that Chris Eubank Jr. can no longer compete on tonight’s card, but it is important to make the right decision in the interests of fighters’ health and safety. We’re grateful to the British Board of Boxing Control for the standards they employ to protect that,” said BOXXER’s Ben Shalom.

“My thoughts go out to Chris, who has had a very difficult time lately. He will come back stronger and remains a key figure in Sky Sports plans. Chris will be returning with a big fight in the next few weeks.

“Tonight’s card remains stacked with great fights from top to bottom, including the European Welterweight Championship bout in the main event, the English Super-Middleweight Title Eliminator bout between Germaine Brown and Jamal Ledoux and the return of top cruiserweight prospect Richard Riakporhe.”

November 5: Champions Mikaela Mayer and Maiva Hamadouche Set to Fight in Junior Lightweight Title Unification Bout at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and LIVE on ESPN+

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 1, 2021) — Mikaela Mayer made history in July 2020 as the first female boxer to headline a Top Rank on ESPN main event. Now the WBO junior lightweight world champion, Mayer is ready to break another barrier.

Mayer will fight longtime IBF world champion Maiva Hamadouche in a title unification showdown Friday, Nov. 5 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, part of Curio Collection by Hilton, with the vacant Ring Magazine title also at stake. Mayer-Hamadouche is the first female world title main event in the four-plus year history of the Top Rank on ESPN series.

In the 10-round co-feature, rising middleweight contender Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly hopes to continue his rapid rise up the rankings against former world champion Hassan N’Dam.

Mayer-Hamadouche and Alimkhanuly-N’Dam will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ starting at approximately 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Matchroom Boxing and OPI Since 82, tickets starting at $25 (not including fees) are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting AXS.com.

“Mikaela Mayer is quickly becoming the face of female boxing, and it’s fitting that she’s part of the first Top Rank on ESPN female world championship main event,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “From the moment she won her world title, she asked for unification fights and the biggest challenges. Hamadouche certainly fits that criteria, and she’s not coming from France to give up her title without one heck of a fight.”

Mayer (15-0, 5 KOs), ranked No. 5 on the ESPN.com pound-for-pound list, rocketed to stardom following her appearance at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Less than two years after her August 2017 professional debut, she shined on the Tyson Fury-Tom Schwarz undercard. In July 2020, Mayer blanked Helen Joseph by unanimous decision in the first female main event since the newest incarnation of Top Rank on ESPN boxing premiered in July 2017. On Halloween evening 2020, she dominated longtime champion Ewa Brodnicka to earn the WBO title. She made her first title defense in June at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and turned back two-weight world champion Erica Farias over 10 rounds.

Mayer said, “This is the big fight I have wanted and the fight that I’ve been working so hard for. My prior fights were all important because I needed those wins to get me in this position. But THIS is the fight that will rocket my career or set me way back, and I have no intention of going back. The stakes are high, but I’ve worked hard, and I am fully prepared to capitalize on this opportunity to become a unified world champion.”

Hamadouche (22-1, 18 KOs, from Albi, France, has held the IBF title since November 2016, a run that’s included six successful title defenses and a recent appearance for her home nation at the Tokyo Olympics. She’s the third longest-reigning world champion in female boxing and returns to the pro game coming off a nearly 11-month layoff. Hamadouche knocked out Italian contender Nina Pavlovic last December in Milan, Italy, extending her knockout streak to four.

Hamadouche said, “I will arrive with my belt and leave with hers. My promise is to give Mikaela Mayer a war. She better start preparing to mourn the loss of her title.”

Alimkhanuly (10-0, 6 KOs) is ranked as the No. 2 middleweight by the WBO and returns to Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, the site of his breakthrough victory. On June 26, he battered former world champion Rob Brant until Brant’s corner stopped the fight after 8 rounds. From Zhilandy, Kazakhstan, the 2016 Olympian has knocked out four straight opponents dating back to April 2019. N’Dam (38-5, 21 KOs), a 17-year pro from Cameroon, held the WBA middleweight world title in 2017 and challenged for world titles on three other occasions. After a pair of defeats at super middleweight, N’Dam returns to the middleweight ranks, where he most recently defeated the formidable Martin Murray via majority decision.

In undercard action, also streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+
Featherweight contender Adam “Blunose” Lopez (15-3, 6 KOs), from Glendale, California, will take on veteran Adan Ochoa (12-2, 5 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Lopez, known as the “Glendale Gatti” for his all-action battles, looks to rebound from June’s razor-thin majority decision loss to former world champion Isaac Dogboe. Ochoa bounced back from last September’s six-round decision defeat to Edward Vazquez with June’s first-round blitzing of Dominican veteran Angel Luna.

CHEESEMAN – THIS IS THE LAST HURDLE FOR ME AT BRITISH LEVEL

Ted Cheeseman hopes to push on from domestic level should he successfully defend his British Super-Welterweight Title against Darlington’s Troy Williamson on the stacked Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowler card at the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool a week on Saturday, live worldwide on DAZN

Cheeseman (17-2-1, 10 KOs) recaptured the 154lbs Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belt with a brilliant eleventh round knockout of the previously unbeaten Liverpudlian James Metcalf on the blockbuster Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte II show in Gibraltar earlier this year.

‘The Big Cheese’ suffered his first career loss when he stepped up to European level to challenge Spain’s Sergio Garcia at The O2 back in February 2019, but with his personal issues now behind him the 26-year-old Bermondsey favourite is confident that he can mount a fresh assault at European honours and beyond.

“Before I had my demons I hit a point where as a young pro you think you’re unbeatable,” said Cheeseman. “You have that glow and that feel around yourself. I feel like for a while I had a lot of pressure on me. I was putting more pressure on myself because I wanted to prove everyone wrong. Now I feel like I’ve got that relaxed happiness and confidence back. I know that as long as I perform I should deal with Troy Williamson.

“You always get a test. You either shine or you fail. I hope he fails, but you never know. I believe that I’m ready for whatever he brings. There isn’t any bad blood between us. We’re both good fighters and we both know what we want to do and where we want to go. It’s about giving ourselves the best opportunity of doing that. I’m in unbelievable shape both mentally and physically.

“I can’t look past this fight, but I feel like this is the last hurdle for me at this level. As long as I’m successful on October 9 then I’ll push on, roll the dice and see where I can get to. I believe that I have the ability to get him out of there in the twelve rounds. Whether it’s points or a stoppage it doesn’t matter, as long as I get the win.

“This is my last hurdle at British level. I’m very motivated for this fight. Troy is a good fighter. Obviously he hasn’t had any tests like me. I don’t think he’s had a proper gut check yet, but he’s unbeaten and he doesn’t want to lose his unbeaten record. He’s a tough fighter and he can bang a bit. It’s a good test but I believe my experience will count in the end.”

Saunders undercard when he meets James Metcalf (21-1, 13 KOs), decorated amateur star Peter McGrail makes his highly anticipated professional debut, Tony Bellew-managed Lightweight Luke Willis (10-0, 1 KO) clashes with Norwich’s Rylan Charlton (6-1-1, 3 KOs), two-time World Title challenger Natasha Jonas (9-2-1, 7 KOs) returns after her thrilling fight with Katie Taylor in May, Birmingham Heavyweight hope Solomon Dacres (2-0, 1 KO) steps up against the experienced Kamil Sokolowski (10-22-2, 4 KOs) in just his third fight, Wigan Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (3-0) takes on Anaelle Angerville (1-1-1) over four rounds and Blane Hyland (4-1) meets Santiago San Eusebio (3-1-2, 2 KOs) in a four round Super-Flyweight contest.
