VIDEO: Press Conference: Kerman Lejarraga vs Dylan Charrat
Kerman Lejarraga – Bilbao, Spain – 32-2, 25 KOs – challenging Dylan Charrat for the vacant European Super-Welterweight Title:
“I lost my passion for boxing. I needed a change in my life. I decided to change my corner and I have recovered the desire to fight. For me this is a huge challenge to face an undefeated opponent, who has good legs. It is a real motivation for me. This is the most important fight of my career. We have planned to fight twelve rounds, not for an early knockout. Barcelona is my second home so I want a big performance.”
Dylan Charrat – Cannes, France – 20-0-1, 6 KOs – challenging Dylan Charrat for the vacant European Super-Welterweight Title:
“I have done everything possible to fight. I haven´t been able to box because of the pandemic. This why I am so excited to fight for the belt against a great boxer like Kerman. I want to face big names. I’m not just a technical boxer, I’m ready to take his punch power. On Saturday I will show my skills against a very strong opponent, but I am prepared for a tactical fight. I am very happy to fight on an show like this broadcast worldwide by DAZN.”
Mary Romero – Murcia, Spain – 6-2, 1 KO – defending her European Super-Bantamweight Title against Amy Timlin.
“The camp has gone well. I have worked so hard to give a good show on Saturday. For me this is a dream be here. Every woman who fights wants to box with Matchroom, because it is the greatest promoter. I hope to do very well and they call me again. Once we are in the ring we will see what dangers my rival brings. I’m not going to give her my European Title.”
Amy Timlin – Southam, England – 4-0-1 – challenging Mary Romero for the European Super-Bantamweight Title:
“I have trained very well, especially during these last two weeks. It is a great opportunity. You will see the best version of me on Saturday night. I am prepared for everything Mary bring to the table, I have studied her closely.”
Kiko Martínez – Alicante, Spain – 41-10-2, 29 KOs – fighting Jayro Duran in an eight round Featherweight contest:
“I`m well prepared, as always, because I train hard everyday. When I get into a fight I am excited, I am only excited about my daughters in this life, and boxing. I have constantly had many ups and downs in my career and that has taught me to be patient. I’ve had to train a lot outside my house, working very hard on my own. When something bad happens to me I look for all the positives from that situation. I want to focus on Saturday. I have to fulfill my commitment on Saturday if I want to fight Zelfa Barrett again. I know that after this fight, great things are going to come for me again.”
Cristóbal Lorente – Barcelona, Spain – 12-0-1, 5 KOs – fighting Anuar Salas in an eight round Super-Featherweight contest:
“It is an honour to be fighting on this show with so many other talented boxers. Mentally I am more than ready to achieve great things. I think I will be able to keep my rival at the distance that suits me. I trained hard, I was preparing with Sandor Martín.”

“This is a big moment in my life, and my opponent is coming off a big win over an undefeated fighter, so I am looking forward to this challenge,” said Medina, who is promoted by TMB Promotions. “I have worked very hard during this camp and I’m ready to return to the ring. I have a lot of family and friends who will be in attendance so I will be gunning for the knockout. I’m ready to take big fights down the road, and I know I have to win these fights to get that chance.”
Medina’s opponent, Rafael Reyes, is coming off the win of his career stopping Ignacio Chairez in the first round.
“Medina is doing everything that is asked of him, and you can tell by the type of performances he is having,” said Greg Hannely, president of Prince Ranch Boxing, who manages Medina. “This is a tough fight, but a good test. LAS VEGAS, NV (September 9, 2021) – Prince Ranch Boxing’s undefeated super bantamweight contender, Raeese “The Beast” Aleem (18-0, 12 KOs), currently ranked WBA #1, is looking for a world title shot, and WBA super bantamweight champion, Murodjon Akhmadaliev (9-0, 7 KOs), is who Aleem would like next.
“I am the number one contender and mandatory for Akhmadaliev’s belt and people are saying he is one of the best in the division, so I want him to prove it, because I know I can beat him,” said Aleem. “With the WBA reducing the number of world titles they have, and now that I am not an interim world champion, I want this fight. Since Akhmadaliev won the belt against Daniel Roman nearly two years ago, he has only fought one time. I feel the WBA needs to mandate this fight and crown the true champion at super bantamweight.”
Aleem, who is managed by Greg Hannley of Prince Ranch Boxing, is looking for the biggest fights possible.
“Aleem passes all the checkmarks of being a world champion, but no one seems too eager to fight him,” said Greg Hannley, Aleem’s manager. “Aleem versus Akhmadaliev would be a great fight that fans would love to see. A battle of two of the best in the world.”
Aleem doesn’t just have his eyes set on the current WBA world champion, he also wants to face the winner of Stephen Fulton vs Brandon Figueroa in the future as well.
“I want to beat Akhmadaliev and then unify my title against the winner of Stephen Fulton versus Brandon Figueroa,” Aleem continued. “I am the best fighter in this division, and I am calling out all names, if people don’t like me, sign up to fight me and prove me wrong.”

Filip Hrgovi? (12-0, 10 KOs) continues his World Title charge tomorrow night as he looks to take out a year of frustration on Marko Radonjic (22-0, 22 KOs) when the unbeaten Heavyweights collide at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria, live on RTL in Croatia and DAZN in over 190 countries and territories worldwide.
Hrgovi? has become one of the most avoided men in boxing with all of the IBF top 15 turning down the opportunity to face him in a Final Eliminator to become mandatory challenger for Anthony Joshua’s Heavyweight crown.
The 29-year-old from Zagreb was last in action on November 7 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida where he handed American Heavyweight Rydell Booker his first stoppage loss, and after almost a year of inactivity, ‘El Animal’ is ready to be let loose in Klagenfurt.
“I’m very happy to be back in the ring,” said Hrgovi?, who weighed in today at 112kg (17st 8lbs 15oz). “It’s been a tough year. We’ve had a lot of problems finding opponents so I’m thankful to Marko for accepting this challenge. He is obviously a brave guy to be willing to fight me when a lot of top heavyweights refused. I’ve been in training camp for almost a year. I’ve done a lot of sparring and I’m in great shape. I just feel sorry for my opponent because I am going to put a year of preparation into this fight. Tomorrow night El Animal is back!”
“I’m expecting a good fight,” said the ‘Montenegro Hammer’ Radonjic, who tipped the scales at 113kg (17st 11lbs 2oz). “Filip is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He had a good amateur career, but so did I. People say I have a strong punch, but that’s not everything in boxing. It’s good to have 22 wins and all by knockout, but I have other strengths too. I’ve come here to fight. Filip is good, but I am too. Remember that. Let’s get ready to rumble.”
“Fans can look forward to a spectacular night of Heavyweight boxing tomorrow at the Wörthersee Stadium,” said promoter Kalle Sauerland. “When I saw Marko Radonjic’s record, I thought it was a typo – 22 wins, all by KO, is something you just don’t see in Heavyweight boxing. Filip has been looking for an opponent for the last 9 months, the whole IBF top 15 turned down the challenge so credit to Marko for taking the fight. I know Filip can’t wait to get back in the ring and back to what he does best.”
The IBF International Heavyweight Title contest between Filip Hrgovi? and Marko Radonjic headlines an action-packed event at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria promoted by Wasserman Boxing and Matchroom Boxing in association with SEH Sports and Entertainment Holding.

| ATLANTA (September 9, 2021) — WBO junior lightweight world champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring and undefeated former featherweight world champion Shakur Stevenson have trained together and share many of the same friends. Sometimes friends make the best enemies.
Herring will defend his world title against Stevenson on Saturday, Oct. 23 (ESPN & ESPN Deportes, 10:30 p.m. ET) at the award-winning State Farm Arena in Atlanta. One of the year’s most anticipated fight cards will also include the return of middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of “The Greatest,” who turned pro in August with a first-round knockout. The undercard — streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+ — will see the return of Olympian Troy Isley (2-0, 1 KO) in a six-rounder at middleweight, Georgia native Haven Brady Jr. (3-0, 3 KOs) in a four-round featherweight tilt, and the A-Town debut of junior middleweight prospect Evan “Yung Holy” Holyfield (7-0, 5 KOs), an Atlanta native and the son of heavyweight legend Evander Holyfield. At Thursday’s kickoff press conference, this is what Top Rank chairman Bob Arum and the fighters had to say. Bob Arum “We have the champion, Jamel Herring, who is a real tough, tough guy. You don’t serve two tours of duty as a Marine in Iraq unless you’re a tough guy. The knock on Jamel had been he didn’t have much punching power. But he showed that he did when he recently stopped the great {Carl} Frampton. I know that he is poised and ready for this fight, and you’ll see ‘The Fighting Marine’ in action. Now, it’s no easy task for him because he faces the young man that many of us in boxing have been touting for years as being the new face of boxing, the new star in boxing, the guy who will beat everybody on his way to superstar glory. And so far, Shakur Stevenson has demonstrated that ability. He knows this is a tough fight, but he always comes prepared. I guarantee you all that you will be seeing a tremendous, competitive main event on Oct. 23.” Jamel Herring “I look at every fight different. This fight is no easier than any fight I’ve had in the past. I always gave Shakur his respect. I know what I’m going up against, but that’s what motivates me to go in the gym and do what I have to do. I don’t take anyone lightly. It’s familiar territory and another day in the life of Jamel Herring. That’s just how it is.” “They’re making Shakur out to be the future superstar, but again, maybe he will be a future star in his own right, but right now, we’re focusing on the now. I still feel like I have things to prove to myself, and I’m just going to go out and do what I have to do.” “Lately, Atlanta has been growing as another city for boxing. It’s great to just not be in a ‘bubble.’ It’s great to actually have fans in attendance for a change. The fans do play a huge part, especially in these big fights. Sometimes you need that crowd to push you and get you riled up. I believe Atlanta will have that great atmosphere that both of us will feed upon on Oct. 23.” “We both have something to prove in our own rights. He’s young, and he wants to be a two-division champion, which I respect. I feel like I’ve always been counted out. I’m still just fighting for my respect. That’s what keeps me motivated and hungry. I think this fight will bring out the best in both of us.” Shakur Stevenson “It’s an amazing opportunity to be back here fighting for another world title. My last world title, I fought in October (2019 against Joet Gonzalez). This world title, I fight in October. It’s going to be no different. I’m coming here to dominate. Jamel is a solid fighter. He has a great team around him, but it’s going to be my night. That’s how I feel.” “{Jamel} is a just a friend of my family. He’s not my friend. He’s not nobody I talk to outside of boxing. We don’t got no relationship outside of boxing. He’s somebody I see around. He messes with the same people I mess with. Other than that, we’re not friends. I’ve never really been his friend. He’s cool people. I don’t got no problem with him at all. It ain’t like I check up on him when I’m not fighting or he checks up on me. I don’t consider that a friend. “At the end of the day, I’m coming in there to handle business, and I’m going to make sure I win.” Nico Ali Walsh “First of all, it’s an honor to be sitting here with Shakur Stevenson and Jamel Herring. It’s an honor to be a part of this card, and I think it’s very important for me to be in Atlanta because of the history, obviously, with my grandfather. And my aunt {Laila Ali} fought here as well. It’s just a really exciting time in my life, and I’m really excited for this journey.” “Everyone I talked to, whether it be Mike Tyson or Tyson Fury or any other professional fighter that I look up to, has said that the first fight is always the hardest because you don’t know what to expect. I’m blessed now that I’ve gotten the first fight over with, and now I’m just looking forward to having fun and enjoying the rest of my boxing career.” |
Las Vegas – UFC® returns to UFC APEX with an exciting matchup in the light heavyweight division, as No. 6 ranked contender Anthony Smith faces off with No. 11 Ryan Spann. In the co-main event, fellow 205ers Ion Cutelaba and Devin Clark aim to steal the show.
UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: SMITH vs SPANN will take place Saturday, September 18 from UFC APEX in Las Vegas. All bouts will stream on ESPN+, with the prelims beginning at 1 p.m. PT/ 4 p.m. ET and the main card at 4 p.m. PT/ 7 p.m. ET.
Former light heavyweight title challenger Smith (35-16, fighting out of Omaha, Neb.) boasts an impressive 94 percent finishing rate and plans to take out Spann in classic fashion. Smith is currently undefeated in 2021, having secured two first-round finishes over Jimmy Crute and Devin Clark. He now has his sights set on continuing his streak and defending his spot in the top 10 of the division.
Spann (21-6, fighting out of Beaumont, Texas) intends to deliver his best performance yet in his first UFC main event effort. A signee from season 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series, Spann quickly rose through the light heavyweight ranks with notable victories over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Sam Alvey and, most recently, Misha Cirkunov. He now looks to notch the most important win of his career by defeating Smith.
Always entertaining Cutelaba (15-6-1, fighting out of Chisinau, Moldova) seeks to get back to his winning ways and re-assert himself as a future title contender. The owner of 13 first-round finishes, including 10 in 1:13 or less, Cutelaba established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in the light heavyweight division with wins over Khalil Rountree, Gadzhimurad Antigulov and Luis Henrique da Silva. He now aims to prove that he still has his best performances ahead of him by finishing Clark.
Clark (12-5, fighting out of Sioux Falls, S.D.) looks to make his first fight of 2021 a successful one by earning his first UFC stoppage. The 2009 NJCAA wrestling champion, he has displayed his skills with wins over Alonzo Menifield, Darko Stosic and Mike Rodriguez. Clark now plans to show that he can compete with the elite with a dominant performance against Cutelaba.

Evander Holyfield
“When Oscar De La Hoya came down with Covid they asked me to fight Vitor Belfort. Training is what I do, like I tell the young people if you do things right, it will work out for you, that works for older folks too.”
“Boxing is a game and I know how to prepare for it against Vitor Belfort. I’m sure if I was getting in his game, I’d be in trouble but he’s getting into my game so he’s in trouble.”
“I’ve been training for over two years because there were fights mentioned against other fighters. I realize now as I prepare to face Belfort I’m in good shape and I don’t get out of shape.”
“It’s not so much that I miss it but people always ask about Mike Tyson and I fighting. They’ve offered so much money that I would definitely take a chance against someone I’ve already beat.”
“I think I look alright but this is after two years of solid training.”
“Atlantic City became really big in boxing with Donald Trump, he did a great job promoting my fights.”
“When I was young I didn’t have any bad habits and so I’m older now and feel good. I learned my whole life you’ll never be successful in life if you don’t take chances, that’s throughout my whole career.”
Vitor Belfort
“I don’t see the change in opponent as a problem, I see it as an opportunity. And this is a huge opportunity for me to face a legend like Evander Holyfield.
“In boxing there’s too many big fights that aren’t happening. Oscar and Evander truly built the sport of boxing during their careers. Evander’s a hall of famer and I’m very excited to be fighting him.”
“The king of the jungle is the lion, not the elephant, I’m smaller than Evander but I’m the lion. Speed and power are more important than size.”
“It’s about hit and don’t get hit, I know how strong Evander is. It’s about fighting a smart fight on Saturday night.”
“I love having President Trump commentate on my fight. Triller is truly bringing something new to the sport of boxing. He’s a real fight fan, always has been.”
“America is a great country of opportunity and that’s been the story of my entire career.”
“I want to congratulate Ryan Kavanaugh and Triller on giving fans an event they cannot miss.”

TUCSON, Ariz. (September 8, 2021) — WBC super featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez, born in Nogales, Mexico and raised in Tucson, Arizona, is ready for his sold-out homecoming. Valdez authored a Knockout of the Year contender over Miguel Berchelt in February and will attempt to successfully defend his title for the first time against unbeaten Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao (16-0, 8 KOs) on Friday evening at the AVA Amphitheater at Casino Del Sol in Tucson. Conceicao defeated Valdez by one point in the finals of the 2009 Pan American Games, so the amateur rivals have a professional score to settle.
In the 10-round co-feature, undefeated junior lightweight sensation Gabriel Flores Jr. (20-0, 7 KOs) will take on his stiffest test to date against hard-charging Mexican veteran Luis Alberto Lopez (22-2, 12 KOs). In his last bout, Flores, the pride of Stockton, California, knocked out former world title challenger Jayson Velez in six rounds. Lopez has won five in a row and is best known for last year’s split decision over Andy Vences in one of the best action bouts of 2020.
Valdez-Conceição and Flores-Lopez will stream live and exclusively Friday on ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7p.m. PT.
At Wednesday’s final press conference, this is what the combatants had to say.
Oscar Valdez
“I feel blessed that I get the chance to step in the ring on September 10. I’m very grateful to Top Rank, the Pascua Yaqui {Tribal Gaming Commission} for letting this fight proceed, and I’ve just been very concentrated. Coming here to my second home in Tucson means a lot to me. People know my last two fights were without a crowd due to COVID and what better way to come back as a champion than in front of my people with all of Sonora and Arizona here? I’m just excited. I’ve been very focused on not looking at anything negative out there. It has been a little difficult — I can’t lie — but this is what we have to go through. This is what it’s going to be.”
“This is when you realize who the real people are around you, who are loyal to you and got your back. I realize that my family is number one and also my team. I have to thank everyone on my team, {including} my manager, Frank Espinoza, and my trainer, Eddy Reynoso. My father has always been there with me. Just everyone who has been around supporting me during these tough times because it has been difficult. They had my back, and we know we did nothing wrong. We’re going to be real concentrated for this fight.”
“{Our amateur bout} was a back-and-forth fight, but I lost. I always took my losses very seriously. Everybody hates losing, and I’m one of them. I’m a sore loser. Now that I get the chance to fight him as a professional, I’m taking this fight very seriously like all the fights. I’m defending my title, and I’m going to do whatever it takes and whatever I got to defend my title and avenge my loss.”
Robson Conceicao
“When I fought him {as an amateur}, it was a tough fight. I fought him and the crowd, and it motivated me a lot and made me happy. Here we have the same thing. I fight against two opponents, him and the crowd… and I will be the winner.”
“This is a very important moment for me, the most important moment in my life. I’m happy I’m here and not alone. I’m here for the Brazilian crowd, for my family, my team, and we’ll be great.”
“About the problem with the champion, what is done is done. There is no explanation, but I’m here to do my best and fight the greatest fight of my life.”
Gabriel Flores Jr.
“Every fight that goes on, I learn. Each fight, I get better and better. It’s a fact. You’re seeing it each fight. This training camp was a long training camp, a longer one because I was supposed to fight on the {Fury-Wilder 3} card, but that got postponed. And now I’m on this card. We took a positive out of a negative. We got sharper. The sparring was great and everything. All my confidence comes from my training. I sparred with real good people that helped me out for this fight. Gervonta Davis. Mark Magsayo. {Yuriorkis} Gamboa. So I’m extremely ready.”
“Lopez is going to get knocked out. He’s going to live up to his name. They call him the deer. He’s going to look like Bambi in there.”
“I always look at the big picture. I know who I am. I started off early in the pros. I was 17 fighting, so that was me figuring out who I am. I know who I am. I’m comfortable. He just bit off more than he can chew. Friday night, he’s going to choke.”
Luis Alberto Lopez
“It was a great fight that night {against Vences}. Fans that night saw just half of what ‘Venado’ can do. I suffered a fracture in the sixth round, but we got the win. It was a big victory, and I wasn’t 100 percent.”
“He has a lot of flaws. He’s just a kid.”
“There’s a lot of talk, but I have proven I am on this level. He might be a future champion, but I’m here to demonstrate I’m on this level, too.”

LAS VEGAS (September 8, 2021) – WBC Heavyweight World Champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury and former longtime heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder have restarted their long-running rivalry and stated their intent to finally settle the score when they meet for the third time on Saturday, October 9 in an ESPN+ PPV and FOX Sports PPV event from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“I’m going to knock Deontay Wilder spark out and it’s going to be even quicker than our last fight,” said Fury, who stopped Wilder in their second fight in February 2020 to capture the WBC title. “If he couldn’t beat me after three years out of the ring and 10 stone weight loss, he’s never beating me. None of them will. They’re just hyped up bums. All of them. Wilder, Joshua, Usyk. They’re all bums. Compared to me, they’re no good.”
“Hopefully Fury is confident enough to go through with this fight, because I’m going to be a reinvented Deontay Wilder on October 9,” said Wilder, who had successfully defended his heavyweight title 10 times before losing to Fury. “This training camp has rejuvenated me. It’s refreshed me. The key to victory in this fight is having a violent mind, but approaching it with calmness. I have all the right people around me and we’re looking forward to October 9. I just hope Fury is ready to put on a show for the fans and make history once again.”
