Bridges (5-1, 2 KOs) of New South Wales Australia captivated boxing fans all over the world with her heroic performance when on April 10th, Ebanie took on Shannon Courtenay for the WBA Bantamweight title.
Bridges fought most of the fight with one eye as she was cut early in the fight , but fought the undefeated champion on even terms for the whole fight before falling short on the judges score cards,
Bridges spent her camp in Philadelphia training with Brian Cohen and WBA Super Lightweight champion (and fellow Split-T fighter) Kali Reis.
Connolly is known as a tough fighter who has fought current 130-pound world champion Terri Harper.

Statement from Manny Pacquiao’s lawyer regarding Paradigm Lawsuit
“As Senator Pacquiao correctly said after this lawsuit was filed in June, he has an absolute right to participate in the August 21 bout with Errol Spence. Today the Court agreed and resoundingly rejected Paradigm’s injunction publicity stunt in a strong and detailed decision. Senator Pacquiao looks forward to his bout with Mr. Spence on August 21.
YORDENIS UGÁS TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (August 6, 2021) – WBA Welterweight World Champion Yordenis Ugás shared his feelings on being “the most avoided fighter in the division” as he previewed his upcoming showdown against Argentina’s Fabian Maidana which serves the FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View co-main event on Saturday, August 21 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Ugás makes his first world title defense leading up to the highly-anticipated main event between eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao and unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. The Olympic bronze medalist from Cuba added his name to the current crop of welterweight world champions when his WBA title was elevated following a victory over Abel Ramos in 2020.
Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, MP Promotions and Man Down Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through t-mobilearena.com and axs.com.
Here is what Ugas had to say about the welterweight division, training camp in Las Vegas, Maidana and more:
On his upcoming matchup with Fabian Maidana:
“Fabian Maidana is a really good fighter who I have been aware of for a while. It is very obvious to fight fans that I’m the most avoided fighter in the division, so I want to thank Maidana for taking this fight. A lot of the big-name fighters don’t want to give me a chance. I still have a lot to prove and fans will see the desire in me when I step in the ring with Maidana.”
On his recent training camp with coach Ismael Salas:
“Training in Las Vegas with Ismael Salas is something I cherish, because Salas and I are so close. We have great chemistry, and the gym has a family atmosphere. We have a lot of high-level amateurs, Olympians, and really good pros in the gym, and that takes training camp to the next level. I had the perfect sparring for this camp and am ready to fight.”
On defending his WBA world title:
“As everyone knows, I want to defend my WBA world title against any-and-all challengers, but it seems not many of the top fighters are willing to fight me, even though I have a world title. I take pride in being a world champion, and tremendous respect for the WBA. I will fight anyone they mandate as my number one contender. I am the boogeyman of the division and have to be a world champion to get fighters to fight me, and even then, I still can’t get the big fights. So, I take a lot of pride in defending my belt.”
On what a win will do for his career:
“A win puts me that much closer to getting the winner of Pacquiao vs. Spence Jr., a rematch with Shawn Porter, a fight with Terence Crawford, or a bout with Keith Thurman. These are the fighters I hope I get to face in the future as I am looking to secure a legacy with my career, and I want to prove that I am the best welterweight in all of boxing.”

READY TO REALISE HIS AMERICAN DREAM: DUBOIS IN CAMP

DANIEL DUBOIS IS set to live his American dream when he crosses the Atlantic to take on Joe Cusumano in Cleveland on Sunday August 29.
The young heavyweight star joins light heavyweight hopeful Tommy Fury on the Showtime PPV card headlined by Jake Paul taking on the former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in his latest professional boxing adventure.
Dubois, 23, won the WBA Interim heavyweight title last time out, bouncing back from his single career setback against Joe Joyce with a resounding second round demolition of Bogdan Dinu in June to take his record to 16-1 (15 KOs). He is now in line for a shot at the WBA full title and is awaiting the governing body mandating a challenge to the current champion Trevor Bryan.
First of all though, he is seizing the opportunity to maximise his exposure to the US market and get a taste of the fight scene Stateside.
“It has always been my dream to fight in America,” said Dubois, whose American opponent carries a record of 19-3, with 17 KOs and has not been stopped in his three defeats.
“It is going to be quite some experience and there will be a lot of eyes on my performance. If I do what I do best the fans will go home happy and remember my name.
“I expect it to be a different type of crowd with younger people who are attracted by the YouTube stars. As boxers we could learn something from the YouTube people when it comes to building a following and the more people that watch boxing the better, as far as I’m concerned.
“Obviously my focus is on closing in on a world title shot, but I will not be taking this fight lightly and it is important to impress in front of a new audience and TV platform. I have seen the big fights on Showtime over the years and now it is my turn.
“If I put on a big show, you never know, I might get called out by a YouTuber!”

SAM MAXWELL DELIGHTED HE’S HAD TO WAIT FOR BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH TITLE SHOT
SAM MAXWELL says the delay to his big fight against Akeem Ennis-Brown has worked in his favour.
Gloucester’s Ennis-Brown (14-0, 1 KO) was due to defend his British and Commonwealth Super-Lightweight titles against Maxwell in March, but pulled out injured days before they were due to meet.
He will now make the first defence of his titles against Maxwell (15-0, 11 KOs) at Utilita Arena, Birmingham on Saturday August 28, live on BT Sport.
Maxwell had to be content with a non-title points win over Ben Fields when Ennis-Brown pulled out, but he couldn’t be happier.
He joined Manchester trainer Steve Maylett shortly before their clash was scheduled giving them little time together.
Maxwell explained: “It was a blessing in disguise that Akeem pulled out. I was a bit gutted at the time because it was my first top of the bill and I was ready to go.
“But, I’d only had five weeks with Steve. I’d been doing stuff with Danny Vaughan and on my own.
“Now I have had five months with Steve and it has worked out for me well.
“Steve told me that had it been anybody else with five weeks’ notice for a British title fight he wouldn’t have taken them on.
“He did because he’d known me well for 15 years and I used to go to the gym and spar with Terry Flanagan. Steve realised I needed something. He knew me and liked me so he took me on.
“When I first went to him and the fight was around the corner, Steve said; ‘I can give you tactics, tell you how I want to fight and get you fit for 12 rounds’.
“That is all we focused on for those few weeks. Now we have a long time to get things right with the game plan. I know if I follow that through I will win this fight.
“Steve is a really good tactician and what he wants is going to work. It is about me following orders and making sure I deliver on fight night.”
“I am very good at the basics, a very good technical boxer. That has got me where I am and I can punch. I am going to perform and I can’t wait to show everyone.”
Big time boxing returns to Birmingham on Saturday August 28.
Former World title challenger Anthony Yarde (20-2, 19 KOs) returns in a ten round Light-Heavyweight clash ahead of his rematch against Lyndon Arthur.
Akeem Ennis-Brown (14-0, 1 KO) will risk his British and Commonwealth Super-Lightweight championships against Liverpool’s former amateur superstar Sam Maxwell (15-0, 11 KOs).
Belfast’s Anthony Cacace (18-1, 7 KOs) defends his British Super-Featherweight crown against Lyon Woodstock (12-2, 5 KOs).
In a fantastic rematch local fighter Ijaz Ahmed (8-2) faces Quaise Khademi (8-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant British Super-Flyweight championship in a battle that is also a Commonwealth title final eliminator.
When they met over ten rounds in February, Ijaz snatched a majority decision in a sensational fight.
Stoke Middleweight Heaney (12-0, 4 KOs) will have his raucous army behind him when he boxes a ten rounder in his third fight under the Queensberry banner.
Telford’s Liam Davies (9-0, 4 KOs), alongside fellow Midlander George Bance (1-0, 1 KO). Nottingham’s Ezra Taylor (1-0, 1 KO) and Northampton’s Super-Lightweight Eithan James (5-0).
Dublin’s Willo Hayden. a training partner of Conor McGregor, makes his professional debut in a four round Super-Lightweight contest.

Joahnys Argilagos Training Camp Quotes
LAS VEGAS, NV (August 5, 2021) – 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist and undefeated Cuban bantamweight sensation, Joahnys Argilagos (7-0, 3 KOs), is set to face Jose Flores Chanez (8-12, 4 KOs), Saturday, August 7th, on the Premier Boxing Champions “Stanionis vs Collazo” undercard, taking place from The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Argilagos, who is managed by Jesse Rodriguez, gives his thoughts on his upcoming fight, training camp, fighting in the States, and more.
On his upcoming matchup with Jose Flores Chanez:
“My opponent is very tough, he has fought Michael Conlan, who is a very famous fighter and celebrated amateur boxer, and my goal will be to stop him early. Chanez is a fighter who has a lot more professional experience than me, so I must be very careful. He is the type of guy that sneaks up on you if you overlook him, so I’ll be prepared for any little tricks he has up his sleeve.”
On his recent training by camp in Las Vegas:
“This camp has been great, I have been working alongside a lot of world champions, and pushing myself to get better each and every day. I had a fight last month and went straight back to the gym, with the thoughts of fighting again as soon as possible, and it paid off.”
On his relationship with trainer Pedro Roque:
“My trainer Pedro Roque is a very good coach, and many people know him, he wants the best for me and from me. It isn’t always fun, but I am pushed in the gym, and I know that I will always be in the best shape possible. Coach Roque has a tremendous amount of knowledge in this sport, and I listen closely when he’s giving instructions. Together we make a great team.”
On fighting consistently in the States:
“It is the dream of every fighter to be able to fight every other month in the United States, especially me coming from Cuba. I grew up watching great fighters fight at the MGM Grand, and all these historic venues in Las Vegas, and now I am here – training in Las Vegas getting ready to fight on a big card. I am living my dream, and I’m grateful to my manager Jesse Rodriguez for doing an incredible job with my career.”

FIGHT CAMP WEEK 2 PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:
“Fight Camp Week 1 was a great way to kick off our new ground-breaking partnership with DAZN, capped by a Cinderella story with Leigh Wood ripping the WBA Featherweight World Title from Xu Can in a big upset at the top of the card.
“Shout out to Chris Billam-Smith and Tommy McCarthy on an incredible fight for the British, Commonwealth and European Cruiserweight Titles. It was a game-changing win for Jack Cullen against former World Title challenger Avni Yildirim and Anthony Fowler got the job done to set up his huge Liverpool showdown with Liam Smith on October 9.
“This week we have an absolute cracker for you. We expect more drama as we go into the World Championship fight – the IBF Featherweight World Title between Kid Galahad and Jazza Dickens.
“Three big Heavyweight fights on the card – Wardley against Nick Webb for the English Heavyweight Title. ‘The Savage’ Alen Babic back in action in a great fight as well. ‘The Romford Bull’ Johnny Fisher, and of course Aqib Fiaz and Ebanie Bridges against Bec Connolly to kick off the live action.”
Kid Galahad – Sheffield, England – 27-1, 16 KOs – fighting Jazza Dickens for the vacant IBF Featherweight World Title:
“It’s been a long time coming, I’m just focused, I can’t wait – Saturday night I’m going to IBF World Champion. I’m just focused, I’m in the zone.
“Jazza is a tough fight for anyone, no matter what level. I can’t actually remember much from the first fight; I can’t even remember what happened yesterday let alone what happened ten years ago. I just focus on what’s ahead. I’m focused on Saturday night and doing a job on Jazza Dickens.
“Every fight is life changing, for me every fight is life of death, Saturday night isn’t going to be any different.”
Dominic Ingle, trainer of Kid Galahad:
“It’s been long time; he’s been in camp almost from his last fight a year ago in February. He’s never been off it and the time’s arrived now; on Saturday night he’s going to take the belt and be World Champion.
“It’s always good to go through the process of making the weight, having the camp for the fight, it’s good to have that. When you’re on the level these two are, I don’t think it counts for much because it’s all about keeping active during the time between the fights. Galahad has been a constant pro, he’s kept moving, sparring, he’s kept active and he’s sharp. He’s not got any ring rust and there’s less mileage on the clock.
“Jazza has been in two great fights, one with recently crowned champion Leigh Wood, he’s got the chance on Saturday to take a title, if he doesn’t, I think he might get another chance against Leigh. I don’t think the inactivity on Galahad’s part is going to play any part in the fight.
“I said way back when their first fight happened, they were both big prospects at the time, you didn’t see fights like that of that magnitude – two guys fighting for the British Title. It was a cracking fight, nip and tuck all the way, Jazza was probably slightly in front in that fight until Galahad caught him with the left hand and stopped him.
“Look at how their paths have gone since, Jazza has had greats fights against great fighters, this is where they are now, back in a World Title fight – it shows the level of both fighters. I don’t think that first fight will have anything to do with this one, I think it’ll be a totally different fight.”
Jazza Dickens – Liverpool, England – 30-3, 11 KOs – fighting Kid Galahad for the vacant IBF Featherweight World Title:
“I’ve had great preparations thanks to my team, everyone around me. I’m grateful to be on this platform, DAZN and Matchroom, kicking off some great nights head. I’ve had great fights leading up to this point and it’s a fight for a World Title, I’ve ticked every box below so now I’m in a good position now.
“Of course, I had to take the opportunity but not on his [Galahad] terms, he might be slick but I’m better. I’m a good fighter, I know what I can do, he can be as slick as he wants. Slick doesn’t inflict any pain on me, he can be as slick as he likes, so I’ll win the fight how I want to win the fight. I’m looking forward to it.
“People talk about game plans, I don’t really consider them too much because they go out the window, when something is going well you keep doing it, you adapt on the fly. I’ll be resilient in there and able to adapt to anything that he brings.
“It’s the best to think like that, this sport is the best and worst, I’ve endured both sides and come through it. To get my crown on Saturday it would be beautiful, I’m grateful to be on this platform.”
Derry Matthews, team Jazza Dickens:
“It’s life changing for either fighter, Jazza had a great camp, George and myself have done everything right. Jaz has done everything we’ve asked of him – we’re looking forward to it. He’s coming off 4 great wins, picking up a couple of great belts on the way, getting good rounds in, making good fights look easy. We know he’s ready and we’re looking forward to it.
“Jazza deserved all the credit, he;s a proper athlete. People always talk about him, he stops for everyone, he’s a people’s champion – a true athlete. Saturday night is about him being world champion, then big things to come for him.”
Fabio Wardley – Ipswich, England – 11-0, 10 KOs – defending his English Heavyweight Title against Nick Webb:
“This is what I’ve been asking for, I’ve been asking for this fight, and you know with me I don’t turn down any fight, I don’t say no to anyone. Any name you’ve ever put forward to me I’ve always said yes, just make sure they turn up – it’s the same attitude with this.
“This is a good fight, it’s a good test and this is all I want to do, be in those good fights and push myself through. Ultimately, I’m coming through on the night.
“I’m always confident, I don’t think there’s any point being in this game if you’re not going to be confident with yourself and don’t have that self-belief. I don’t care what man is stood in front of me, what they’ve done before, no-one’s got in the ring with me. Nick has never got in the ring with a guy like me and he’s going to find that out on the night.
“Nothing else is acceptable but a KO victory, there’s no other way this is going. It’s not going to points, the judges aren’t needed, you can save yourself a few quid and send them home – they won’t be needed.”
Nick Webb – Surrey, England – 17-2, 13 KOs – challenging Fabio Wardley for the English Heavyweight Title:
“I’m looking forward to fighting now, I’ve trained really well, coming off a great win. Everybody doubted me then, everybody is doubting me now, it’s the same story and I’m ready to prove them all wrong.
“I see the fight totally different; I’m laughing at the fact I’m the underdog. I’m here to show people what I can do and I’m happy to be here.
“I’ll be in a great position if I win this and I’m ready to put myself in that position on Saturday night.
“I have the power and the boxing ability, everyone knows me for my power, but you will see that I can box very well. I’ve got it all and I’m ready to prove it.”
Alen Babic – Zagreb, Croatia – 7-0, 7 KOs – fighting Mark Bennett in an eight round Heavyweight contest:
“This is the place ‘The Savage’ was born when I walked out to that ring walk, I felt something and that is with me today, tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. I’m going to ruthless; I’m going to be at my best. I’m twice as strong now, I’m fully in da-zone. I can’t wait, all of you put your children away, it’s going to be a blood fest.
“I answered all those questions in Joe Joyce’s camp last week, we did 14 rounds with Joyce, he said after his fight with Takam that I hit harder in 18-ounce gloves then Takam did in 10. What should I explain more to people, I want to show that I fight against the biggest Heavyweights, Joe Joyce is much tougher than Bennett. He’s a nice guy but Mark is nowhere near the class of Joyce, I don’t see a bigger Heavyweight than Joyce around.
“You should ask Joe Joyce that question, we did eight rounds straight, I could do eight rounds more. I could do 25 rounds with Bennett, then you could bring in Nick Webb and I could do another 12 with him.”
Mark Bennett – Dunsville, England – 7-1, 1 KO – fighting Alen Babic in an eight round Heavyweight contest:
“This is a massive opportunity, I’m happy to be here. I believe that this is my time, I think that I’ve got the number of Babic so we’ll see on Saturday night.
“I don’t just think it’s the size, I do think that his work rate is relentless yeah I agree, but I can fight – he’s not the only man in the world who can fight. We’ll both have a scrap on Saturday, and I dare say the best man will win. I tipping it’s going to be myself, I’ve had a good camp, I’m ready for it.
“Hopefully the phone will ring after this fight no matter what but for my family and myself, this is a massive opportunity and I think this will open a lot of doors and avenues I’ll take with both hands. I’m ready.”
Johnny Fisher – Romford, England – 2-0, 2 KOs – fighting Danny Whittaker in a four round Heavyweight contest:
“I’ve got to be very switched on, I’ve trained very hard with Mark Tibbs and Steve Andrews, we want to show the improvements and I’m going to need to show the improvements to beat someone like Danny Whittaker.
“My second fight, Phil Williams, is someone that’s there to survive, he made life difficult but I still going the stoppage. I’m looking forward to a challenge of someone who comes to fight because when they come to fight, the openings will be there for me to exploit.
“That’s where I’ve gained my experience, I didn’t have the longest amateur career, my experience has been sparring Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley, guys like that. That’s where my education has been formed, now it’s time to show those improvements when I step in the ring – hopefully every time I can show a little improvement.
“I’m looking forward to boxing in front of a handful of my fans who have come to support me, my dad’s coming to watch, it will be brilliant to have him ringside. My job is to win on Saturday, I’ve been prepared very hard, and I hope to do it in a very good fashion.”
Danny Whittaker – Silsden, England – 4-3 – fighting Johnny Fisher in a four round Heavyweight contest:
“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity, I’m excited, relaxed, I’m putting no pressure on myself, I just want to get in there and do the business Saturday night. I look forward to putting on a good performance.
“It’s massive, a win here is a massive platform for me to push on for my career. Like you say, there’s no pressure on myself, I just want to put on a good performance. With a good performance, the quality of boxing I can produce will be good enough to win the fight.
“This is Heavyweight boxing; all it takes is one punch, so I need to be wary of Johnny I know he’s a big puncher. I’m looking forward to getting in there and the whole week – it’s an amazing event.”
Ebanie Bridges – New South Wales, Australia – 5-1, 2 KOs – fighting Bec Connolly in an eight round international Bantamweight contest:
“I thought that my last fight was a perfect introduction of ‘The Blonde Bomber’ to the world. I might not have had my hand raised but everything about that fight, the lead up and how it went down, I was very pleased with that. I’m happy to be back.
“When I’m in the gym, I don’t get my phone out and film myself, when I go to the gym it’s business. I’m very serious, you might not see a lot of my gym stuff, my training, working the craft, but I think that’s also a sign of me working hard. The other stuff I do is just me being The Blonde Bomber, having fun and engaging with fans.
“I’ll do anything for boxing, I haven’t been home in Australia since the beginning of March, I had to go to Mexico, that was an amazing experience. Being in Philly was just unreal, eight weeks of camp, I learnt so much and I’m excited to show everyone my improvements.
“I think everyone wants to get respect for what they train so hard in, to say that I don’t really care is pushing it, but everyone has their opinions. If people don’t want to give me their respect, I don’t care, but it’s nice when I do get it and get recognised for my skill and the hard work I put, but I’m not going to be bothered by it when I don’t.
“We’re going to see the very best Bec Connolly in there, so that’s going to be exciting as well – we’ve seen what she can do. On short notice dropping weight she looks shredded; we all know she’s a tough cookie. But come August 7 that cookie is going to crumble – I’m going to break it down and get that win.”
Bec Connolly – Swindon, England – 3-9 – fighting Ebanie Bridges in an eight round international Bantamweight contest:
“That [Courtenay vs Bridges] is the kind of fight, I as a fan, like to watch so big respect to both women after that fight. It’s not always about the skillset, it’s the type of fighter you like to watch. Boxing is a business at the end of the day, if you can’t put bums on seats and you’re not selling to people, you’re not anything – I think she’s [Ebanie] done a really good job of that.
“This is the thing in the women’s game that people don’t understand, there’s no depth in the division. You have here and the world class, with no one filling the gap. People forget that you say the Terri Harper, Natasha Jonas, Rachel Ball, but in my second pro fight I fought Kristine Shergold, she was a legit World Champion – I saw her win over 10 rounds against Kalliopi Kourouni.
“People like Elaine Greenan, she’s no joke of a fighter, none of them have been jokes. I kind of saw it as if you can’t get past me, you aren’t going all the way to the top. Hats off to the ones that are taking that tough fight in their first fight, because you know they’re class – the likes of Ellie Scottney.”
Aqib Fiaz – Oldham, England – 6-0 – fighting Kevin Baldospino in an eight round Super-Featherweight contest:
“I was supposed to be here last year, but everything happens for a reason, and I finally get my chance so thank you. I’m looking forward to Saturday night, I’ve got quite a few people coming so I look forward to a great night.
“This is great for my development, these sort of fights, they’re not easy, they’re learning fights. I’m learning the trade and like you say, I want to pick some titles up but first of all activity is key. I’ve been inactive for 10 months by the time we fight, as a prospect that’s a long time, get active and get some belts.
“He’s [Baldospino] definitely one of those opponents that if I’m not on my game he will cause me problems all night long, so I need to be the best version of myself and I look forward to a good performance.
“I remember last time I fought in Manchester there were on fans there and I didn’t really enjoy it too much. I’m glad they’re back, I look forward to a fight there later in the year. Firstly, I need to focus on Saturday and get the job done.”
Kevin Baldospino – Miranda de Ebro, Spain – 9-5-2, 1 KO – fighting Kevin Baldospino in an eight round Super-Featherweight contest:
“I’ve prepared well for this fight; I’m motivated for the fight and I’m glad to be on this card on DAZN. I like to come prepared and I’m ready for a great show on Saturday.
“I’m very motivated, I’m very willing, I’ve trained very hard, and everything’s has come together nicely. You’ll see in the fight on Saturday how well I’ve prepared for this.”
EIMANTAS STANIONIS VS. LUIS COLLAZO FOX PBC FIGHT NIGHT FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTE

MINNEAPOLIS (August 5, 2021) – Hard-hitting rising welterweight contender Eimantas Stanionis and former world champion Luis Collazo went face-to-face at a press conference Thursday to preview their showdown that headlines FOX PBC Fight Night and on FOX Deportes this Saturday, August 7 from The Armory in Minneapolis.
The press conference also featured unbeaten welterweight and two-time Venezuelan Olympian Gabriel Maestre and Mykal Fox, who meet for the Interim WBA Welterweight Title in the co-main event and former-two division world champion Devon Alexander “The Great” and Luke Santamaría, who duel to kick off the telecast at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Warriors Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased at the Armory at http://ArmoryMN.com/ and through Ticketmaster.
Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday in Minneapolis:
EIMANTAS STANIONIS
“I’m very excited to fight here. I fought in Minneapolis in 2019 and the fans are great here. They love a good show. I want to thank the whole PBC family for this opportunity against a great fighter in Luis Collazo.
“Collazo has faced the top guys and he likes to fight fire with fire like I do. I am prepared for an action-packed fight.
“I got confidence from my last fight knowing that I can go 12 hard rounds. I got tested in that fight against Thomas Dulorme, but I think it was my worst night. I was not at my best. This time I’m 100% prepared and ready to go.
“I just have to win and keep winning. I want to get to the world title shot. Lithuania has never had a pro world champion and I want to make history. I have great competition on Saturday and I want to show that I can compete with any of the top guys.
“I think I deserve the title shot if I win on Saturday. I’m ranked high by the WBA and I’m going to be in position to fight the best sooner rather than later.
“I think I can compete with the top guys right now. When you go into the ring, it doesn’t matter who the favorite is. I like to give 100% of my heart into the ring. This is an entertainment sport and we’re entertainers. That’s my mentality coming into the fight.”
LUIS COLLAZO
“I can’t wait for Saturday night. It’s been a long road and I’m just eager to step back in the ring and do what I do best on fight night.
“This is going to be my last fight on Saturday night. The sport is overwhelming in many ways and sometimes it’s hard to enjoy it. Even saying that, I’m bringing everything I’ve got on Saturday. I’m going to leave my mark once again.
“Right now the only thing he has on me is age. Age doesn’t matter though, when you fight and stay in the gym like I do. That’s what I do for a living. I’ve been consistent and there’s no excuses coming into this fight.
“You can’t compare one fighter to another really. It doesn’t matter if they have similar styles. You have to prepare for each guy to the best of your abilities. Once that bell rings, everything can change real quick.”
GABRIEL MAESTRE
“I’m very happy for this opportunity. I want to thank my whole team for putting me in this position. I worked so hard for this fight and I just want to tell the fans in Minneapolis that I’m going to bring a great fight on Saturday.
“I know that the U.S. fans like action and I’m going to bring that. I don’t like to run around the ring, so they can expect a war on Saturday.
“I would love to fight Jamal James after this. But first thing is first. I need to take care of Mykal Fox. I’m going to show everyone what I have on Saturday and then take it from there.”
MYKAL FOX
“I’m very excited for this fight. I’ve done the backup thing a few times, and it’s a stale feeling when you don’t fight. I’m a fighter and I want to compete and I can’t wait to step in there on Saturday night.
“I think I have an advantage coming in as a late replacement. I was in the gym training for this card already. It’s going to be hard for someone to flip and fight someone with my attributes. I think I have a different style than Cody Crowley. I’m not coming off the couch, I’m going to be ready to go 12 rounds if need be.
“We have a full welterweight card here, so I think any of us could face Jamal James next. If I win this belt, I’d for certain be excited to face James. I want to take the interim off the title and fighting Jamal is a great way to do that. He’s going to have a front row seat to watch us perform.”
DEVON ALEXANDER
“Thanks for having me here in Minnesota. I’m excited to be here and share the stage with these great fighters. I thank Luke for taking on this challenge. I’m just here to get some rust off and get back into title contention. That’s my purpose.
“I feel good, I feel strong and I’m happy. That’s the most important thing. I can’t wait to get in there and show out. I see a good couple of years for me ahead. I have to take it one fight at a time and take care of Luke on Saturday.
“Fans are going to see a great show on Saturday. It’s a great card from top to bottom. I’m back to being myself. I’m fast and explosive, with power. I’m known as a boxer-puncher, so you’re going to see a bit of everything on Saturday.
“This is his biggest opportunity yet in his career. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be ready and come to fight. Anybody I fight, knows they have to come ready. He knows I have a name. Any time a fighter steps into the ring, he’s a threat. I have to treat him as such.”
LUKE SANTAMARIA
“This is a great opportunity for me. He’s been in the ring for a long time and has a lot of experience. I’m looking forward to putting on a good show and giving the fans a great fight.
“A win would put me where every fighter wants to be, on top. I trained with everything I have. We’re ready to go home with this win.
“I’m going to be in there doing my thing. I’m definitely going to make this a memorable fight and leave it all in the ring.”

Servania (34-2, 16 KOs) is 5-1 with four knockouts since falling short in a 2017 Fight of the Year contender to Oscar Valdez for the WBO featherweight world title. He moved up to junior lightweight following a February 2019 decision loss to top junior featherweight contender Carlos Castro. Cortes (14-0, 7 KOs) last fought May 22 on the Josh Taylor-Jose Ramirez undercard and notched a unanimous decision over Eduardo Garza. Bell (18-0, 5 KOs), the WBO No. 8 junior lightweight contender, is 6-0 since signing with Top Rank in 2018. He authored his signature victory in June 2019 when he outboxed Andy Vences over 10 rounds. Bell fought in April in Tulsa and turned back the stiff challenge of Manuel Rey Rojas. Cortez (15-2, 11 KOs) is unbeaten as a junior lightweight and has won two straight bouts since a split decision defeat in February 2020. Nova (19-0, 14 KOs) has been out of action since June 2020, when he figured out the tricky Avery Sparrow en route to a 10-round decision win. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Albany, N.Y., Nova had knocked out four straight foes before the Sparrow fight. In other action: |
GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

STAFFORD, TX. (August 5, 2021) – Two-division world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux gave insight into his training camp as he prepares to take on WBO Bantamweight World Champion John Riel Casimero on Saturday, August 14 in the main event live on SHOWTIME from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California in a Premier Boxing Champions event.
The event is promoted by TGB Promotions. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.
The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast will begin at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and will see Cuba’s two-time Olympic gold medalist Rigondeaux, who has earned pound-for-pound recognition at various points in his career, return to action against the Philippine’s Casimero, a three-division world champion looking for a career-best victory in his second 118-pound title defense.
Here is what Rigondeaux had to say about training camp with Ronnie Shields and more:
On his upcoming matchup with John Riel Casimero:
“It has been a very focused camp, and I have found inspiration watching the Olympics, and it has lit a spark in me. Winning two gold medals in my early years gives me added incentive to win this fight. I want to prove to the world that I am one of the best boxers ever, and that I have a lot left to give in this sport. I am confident that I am going to do that against the most avoided fighter in my weight class. Casimero is a dangerous fighter and a very powerful puncher, but I’m going to tame him with great boxing skills.”
On his recent training camp with coach Ronnie Shields:
“Training in Texas with Ronnie Shields has been great and our energy working together is fantastic. Ronnie has had a lot of world champions, and has a very professional boxing gym, with a lot of world champions and fighters who are competing at the highest level of the sport. I am motivated to work hard, not just to reach my own goals, but by all the young fighters in the gym who are driven and focused. The atmosphere has brought something new out of me. I’m revived and feeling young again.”
On fighting for WBO world title:
“It always feels good fighting for a world title, and I have had the WBO title before after I beat Nonito Donaire, but this time I’m going up against a hungry young lion. I am looking to capture another world title, and give another great fight that fans will talk about for years.”
On returning to the ring after a year-long layoff:
“I feel good. I think at this point in my career, all the time away from the ring helps. I know how to fight and I know how to train, the big thing is knowing how to recover, and not damage my body. I am doing a good job at staying sharp in the gym, but not over training. A win against Casimero will do wonders for my career.”

Headlining the event in a 10-round heavyweight clash, top undefeated heavyweight prospect Stephan “Big Shot” Shaw (14-0, 10 KOs), of St. Louis, MO, will face Robert Simms (11-3, 3 KOs), of Saginaw, MI, with the vacant IBF USBA Heavyweight Title at stake. One of the most talked about young heavyweights in boxing, the 6’4” Shaw returns to action following a dominant win last December on NBC Sports Network. The 28-year-old Shaw comes from a family of fighters and is a former US National amateur champion. The dangerous Simms has defeated two touted prospects in his last three fights and his losses have only come by way of split or majority decision.
Local Virginian fan favorite Jerry “Slugger” Forrest (26-4-1, 20 KOs), of Newport News, VA, takes on Jersey City, New Jersey’s Joe Jones (12-4, 9 KOs), for the vacant IBF North American Heavyweight Championship, scheduled for 10 rounds. The heavy-handed southpaw earned his nickname “Slugger” from his grandmother after he survived complications from his birth. Forrest, whose father is a master chief petty officer in the US Navy aboard the USS Nimitz, was employed as a nuclear electrician for 10 years, working on submarines and aircraft carriers at the outset of his boxing career. He is coming off of a dramatic brawl on February 27, 2021, in which he overcame three knockdowns to earn a hotly contested draw against China’s unbeaten 6’6” Zhilei Zhang. Born in Lynchburg, VA, Jones is looking to keep up the momentum from his recent win on July 24, 2021.
Fighting in an eight-round heavyweight tilt, southpaw Mike Balogun (17-0, 13 KOs), of Upper Marlboro, MD, will battle Nick Davis (6-2, 4 KOs), of Atlanta, GA. The athletic Balogun is a former college football standout who started for the Oklahoma Sooners before playing in the NFL for three years. The former San Francisco 49ers linebacker has won his last three starts by knockout.
In a six-round matchup of junior lightweight prospects, Joshafat Ortiz (7-0, 4 KOs), of Reading, PA, squares off against Stevie “The Answer” Massey (13-1, 9 KOs), of Charlotte, NC. The 25-year-old Ortiz will be making his first start of 2021, while Massey hits the ring looking build off of his recent victory in May against Carlos Marrero. Ortiz was born in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, but moved to the US at age four. He was first introduced to boxing as a child, as his father, uncle and brother were all amateur fighters. Ortiz compiled an amateur record of 42-7, and was a three-time Pennsylvania Golden Gloves champion.
Opening the FITE.TV broadcast in a six-round women’s super bantamweight bout, Amanda Galle (4-0), of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, is matched against Dalia “La Pantera” Gomez (3-2, 1 KO), of Oxnard, CA. Galle, a three-time Canadian National champion and four-time Ringside National champion as an amateur, captured the Canadian women’s super bantamweight title following a dominant victory against Shelly Barnett in January of 2020.
Rounding out the card in separate four-round bouts will be two up-and-coming prospects from Baltimore, MD, in super middleweight Tyrell Boyd (2-0, 2 KOs) and heavyweight pro debuter Malik Titus, as well as cruiserweight newcomer Calvin Mends (2-0, 2 KOs), of Leesburg, VA.
