Press Conference Notes: Artur Beterbiev Set to Defend Unified Light Heavyweight Crown against Callum Smith

QUEBEC CITY, Canada (Jan 11, 2024) —Boxing’s knockout king hopes to make 20 for 20 against a British former world champion intent on upsetting the long odds.

WBC/WBO/IBF light heavyweight king Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs)will defend his world titles against former super middleweight ruler Callum Smith (29-1, 21 KOs)this Saturday, Jan. 13 at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada. Beterbiev, a two-time Russian Olympian who now calls Montreal home, is boxing’s only world champion with a 100 percent knockout ratio.

In the 10-round super middleweight co-feature, Christian Mbilli (25-0, 21 KOs)will defend his WBC Continental Americas and WBA International titles against Australian contender Rohan Murdock (27-2, 19 KOs).

Beterbiev-Smith and Christian Mbilli-Rohan Murdock will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

The ESPN+-streamed undercard (5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT) will feature Australian world champion Jason “Mayhem” Moloney (26-2, 19 KOs) defending his WBO bantamweight world title against Mexican-American challenger Saul Sanchez (20-2, 12 KOs).

At Thursday’s press conference, this is what the main event fighters and their head trainers had to say.

Artur Beterbiev

“I’m excited, just like I am for every fight. For this fight, we prepared like we usually do, which is at 100 percent.”

“I’m focused on this fight. I’m happy that my supporters are coming to watch us. But I have things to do.”

Callum Smith

“I’m here to do a job. I’m here to become a world champion again. I’m here with my team. And as long as I’m with them, I can be anywhere and feel like home. I’m in a good place mentally and physically, and I’m ready to perform.”

“This will be exciting. He’s a very good fighter. He’s a three-belt champion. So, his achievements speak for themselves. But, I believe in myself. I always have. I believe that the best version of me can beat anyone in the world. I fully stand by that.”

“I’ve improved a lot over the last couple of years with {my trainer} Buddy McGirt. And the time is now. I’m ready to become a two-division world champion. I’m being presented with the opportunity this weekend, and it’s an opportunity I plan on taking.”

“Regardless of whether the crowd is cheering for me or against me, I’m there to do a job. My focus is on my opponent. It’s nice to have people cheering for you. But if they’re not, I’m still there to do the same thing.”

Marc Ramsay (Beterbiev’s head trainer)

“He’s a good fighter. He’s a complete. He’s No. 1 for a reason. But at the end of the day, Artur has been boxing since he was nine. He’s seen everything.”

“It’s always good {for him to start camp in Russia}. It’s a protocol that we’ve had for a long time. We’ve had success with that protocol. He goes to a high altitude to start training camp the right way and make sure he’s not starting the real camp at zero.”

Buddy McGirt (Smith’s head trainer)

“He’s very underrated. I think a lot of people underestimate him. He’s going to really showcase what he can do on Saturday night.”

“You can’t go into the fight thinking about his record. We know what’s in front of us. We’re not stupid. We know that it’s a tough test. We’re prepared for that. If you’re worried about that, you’re in the wrong business.”

February 16: Andres Cortes-Bryan Chevalier & Bruce Carrington-Bernard Torres Round Out ESPN-Televised Tripleheader at The Theater at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK CITY (Jan. 10, 2024) — Two rising talents are set to put their perfect records on the line as part of the ESPN-televised tripleheader headlined by the WBC junior lightweight showdown between reigning champ O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster and Abraham “El Super” Nova on Friday, Feb. 16 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

In the 10-round junior lightweight co-feature, Andres “Savage” Cortes takes on Puerto Rican contender Bryan Chevalier.

Rising featherweight Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington, the latest fistic prodigy from Brownsville, Brooklyn, will face Filipino-born standout Bernard Torres in the 10-round televised opener.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Murphys Boxing and 12 Rounds Promotion, tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 12 at 12 p.m. ET via Ticketmaster.com.

Foster-Nova, Cortes-Chevalier and Carrington-Torres will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Cortes (20-0, 11 KOs) emerged in July 2020 when he rose from the canvas to secure a unanimous decision win over Alejandro Salinas inside the MGM Grand Las Vegas Bubble. After decisioning Eduardo Garza in May 2021, Cortes shined with a first-round knockout against former world title challenger Genesis Servania three months later and a third-round TKO against Mark Bernaldez that November. The 26-year-old signed with Top Rank in March 2022 and has since gone 4-0 with two knockouts. Last July, Cortes scored a seventh-round stoppage victory over Xavier Martinez.

Cortes said, “I can’t wait to perform on the big stage at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. This is a massive opportunity, and I will put the junior lightweight division on notice. I want a world title shot, but I must perform well against a tough opponent in Chevalier to make that goal a reality. 2024 is the year I bring a world title home to Las Vegas.”

Chevalier (20-1-1, 16 KOs), a 10-year-pro, is unbeaten in his last 12 fights. He made his U.S. debut by defeating James Wilkins to capture his first regional title in July 2021. Following a yearlong absence from the ring, he returned in 2022 with TKO wins against Carlos Padilla and Cesar Juarez. The 29-year-old continued to build on his momentum last year, tallying seventh-round stoppages against Alberto Mercado in April and Ranfis Javier Encarnacion in July.

Chevalier said, “Andres Cortes is a great fighter. Boxing fans will really enjoy a great fight that night. Expect to see in me a warrior who will do everything possible to walk away victorious. That night, everyone in the boxing world will know who Bryan Chevalier is.”

Carrington (10-0, 6 KOs), 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials champion, has been rapidly ascending the ranks since turning pro in October 2021. The 26-year-old impressed with five victories in 2023, including a second-round knockout over then-unbeaten Brandon Chambers in April. In his last performance, Carrington stunned former world title challenger Jason Sanchez by knocking him out in only two rounds. Carrington enters 2024 knocking on the doorstep of title contention.

“It is always extra special to fight in at The Garden in front of my hometown fans, and I look forward to putting on a show for my people and everyone watching on ESPN,” Carrington said. “I’ve graduated from prospect to contender, and this is the year everyone sees my full arsenal.”

Torres (18-1, 8 KOs), a Filipino-born southpaw from Norway, debuted in the paid ranks in October 2017. He went 16-0 before losing via 10-round unanimous decision to Frency Fortunato in September 2022 in his U.S. debut. The 27-year-old bounced back with an eighth-round TKO win against Cristian Avila last January in Oslo, Norway. Torres is coming off a 10-round points verdict over Tanzanian veteran Nasibu Ramadhani in June.

The ESPN+-streamed undercard features:

2016 Italian Olympian Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (11-1-1, 9 KOs) battles Moses Johnson (11-1-2, 8 KOs) in an eight-round heavyweight contest. Vianello returns following a decision win over Curtis Harper in October. Johnson, from Huntington, New York, tallied a third-round TKO against Emilio Salas in December.

Junior welterweight prospect Tiger Johnson (11-0, 5 KOs), a U.S. Olympian from Cleveland, Ohio, makes his 2024 debut in an eight-rounder against Brazil’s Paulo Galdino (13-7-2, 9 KOs). Johnson capped off a spotless 2023 in December with a gritty eight-round split decision over Jimerr Espinosa.

Unbeaten junior lightweight prospect Ofacio Falcon (10-0, 6 KOs) will make his second appearance at The Theater against Edward Ceballos (11-4-1, 6 KOs). Falcon, a native of The Bronx, decisioned Pedro Vicente Scharbaai in June.

Middleweight prospect Euri Cedeno (7-0-1, 6 KOs), who represented the Dominican Republic at the Tokyo Olympics, makes his New York City debut against Atlanta native Antonio Todd (15-9, 9 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

Queens-born middleweight Isaah Flaherty (6-0, 3 KOs) will see action in a six-rounder against an opponent to be named.

Developing Arabian boxers to be showcased this Saturday in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (January 10, 2024) – Rapidly developing Arabian boxers will be showcased on this Saturday’s “Rising Stars Arabia: The Revolution” card, promoted by AAM Seddiqi Sports and sponsored by the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), outdoors at Yas Links Golf Course in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The boxing world knows many of today’s most significant and lucrative boxing events  are held in the Middle East, but they may be unaware that this region also has world-class fighters such as Moroccan super featherweight Moussa Gholam (20-1, 12 KOs), in addition to a growing group of promising prospects and solid veterans such as United Arab Emirati lightweight Fahad “Kid Emirati” Al Bloushi (12-1, 2 KOs), Jordanian lightweight Bader “The Master” Samreen (9-0, 8 KOs), Syrian cruiserweight Mohammed “The Destroyer” Bekdash (26-0, 23 KOs) and Iraqi light heavyweight Amer Kadhum Ghaneem (2-0, 1 KO). All are scheduled to be in action this Saturday.

Innovative promoter Ahmed Seddiqi is on a mission to introduce Arabian boxing talent to the world, believing the “Rising Stars Arabia” series will continue developing boxing talent in this region. Seddiqi has promoted many events, but he took a break to focus on his company and gym. On the 10th anniversary of Round 10 Boxing Club, he decided to showcase regional talents, focusing on promoting shows to showcase boxers from the Middle East and North Africa countries, of which Arabs comprised 98-percent, for the first time in boxing history.

“This series will be a solid platform for the region and the world to see the talent we have here,” Seddiqi explained. “A lot of promotions are happening in our region, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi, but there are only one or two Arab fighters on the undercard. It is disappointing for me to see that, and this series will start pushing more fighters on big cards. The main goal is to have a superstar from our region and to start headlining main events in our region and around the world.”

The Rising Stars Arabia (RSA) series, the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, is sanctioned by the Middle East Professional Boxing Commission. Western promoters generally don’t promote Arab talent, but now they will have no choice other than to start promoting them due to Seddiqi’s vision and initiatives.

“Rising Star Arabia: The Revolution” will be streamed live on DAZN and ESPN Knockout, as well as broadcast on Abu Dhabi Sports TV, starting at 8 p.m. UAEST (11 a.m. EST and 8 a.m. PST).

“There was a considerable hiatus between our first event (Sept. 9, 2023) and the second due to circumstances,” Seddiqi noted, “but momentum starts this Saturday, and it will continue with the third installment of our series in March, and fourth in June.

“This event will be extraordinary as it takes place outdoors at a golf club with a stunning backdrop of Yas Island and the beautiful surroundings of the mangroves.”

AAM Seddiqi Sports has been promoting and managing fighters in the region for 10 years and it has a growing stable of more than 30 gifted regional and global talents. Its events include five world title shows that have been broadcasted globally on ESPN, Sky Sports, and other major networks.

Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi is responsible for promoting, protecting, and progressing the emirate by driving the strategic and sustainable growth of Abu Dhabi’s culture and tourism sectors. As part of its mandate, the department is responsible for promoting regional and global sporting events in the emirate.

Tickets to Rising Stars Arabia are on sale now at https://swiy.co/rsa2. Leading up to the event, fans can find updates on the AAM Seddiqi Sports Instagram channel @seddiqiboxing and on seddiqiboxing.com.

Toro Promotions signs undefeated Nicaraguan featherweight prospect Nilo Guerrero, Jr.

LOS ANGELES (January 8, 2024) – Toro Promotions Inc. has announced the signing of undefeated Nicaraguan featherweight prospect Nilo Guerrero, Jr. (7-0, 6 KOs) to an exclusive promotional contract.

Guerrero leads the latest wave of Nicaraguan boxers from the boxing rich Central American country that has produced 17 world champions, including Hall of Famer Alexis Arguello, future Hall of Famer Roman “Chocolalito” Gonzalez, and former world champions Ricardo Mayorga and Rosendo Alvarez, to name some of the more notables.

Gonzalez (51-4, 41 KOs), a five-time, four-division world champion, is still one of the top active Panamanian boxers, along with reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) Light Flyweight World Champion Felix “El Gemelo” Alvarado (39-4, 34 KOs) and former World Boxing Council (WBC) Flyweight World titleholder Cristofer “El Latigo” Rosales (36-6, 22 KOs).

Guerrero, who was the Nicaraguan Youth National Flyweight Champion in 2016, had 150 amateur matches, including many in international competition. He is freakishly tall, standing 6’ 2”, seven-inches taller than the average featherweight boxer.

“He’s a gangly guy at 6’ 2” who moves like he’s 5’ 2”,” co-promoter Whit Haydon said. “He’s a wild swinger like Mayorga.”

The 22-year-old Guerrero made his  United States and Toro Promotions debuts this past Saturday night at Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington. Guerrero turned in an auspicious performance, flooring Chancellor Battenberg in the first and second rounds enroute to a second-round technical knockout.

Nilo is scheduled to return to the ring February 15th at Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California.

MCKENNA-UDOFIA CONFIRMED AS BET365 WILDCARD FOR JONAS-MAYER UNDERCARD

LIVERPOOL, UK (January 8, 2023) – Aaron McKenna versus Linus Udofia is the latest mouth-watering contest confirmed for an action-packed fight card on Saturday, January 20th at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and ESPN+ in the USA.

The middleweight rivals meet in a special bet365 Wildcard contest for McKenna’s WBC International Title on the undercard of Natasha Jonas’ IBF World Welterweight Title defence against former unified world champion Mikaela Mayer.

McKenna claimed the WBC International strap with a unanimous points victory over Uisma Lima on June 16th at London’s York Hall. Now 17-0, the 24-year-old is considered one of the division’s most exciting young talents. To continue his upward career trajectory, the ‘Silencer’ must now overcome his toughest test as he takes on former English Champion and British Title challenger Udofia.

With victories over Tyler Denny and John Harding Jr, and a hard-fought split decision loss to Denzel Bentley for the British Middleweight Title, Udofia has established himself as one of the fighters at the top of a stacked domestic division. The 30-year-old from Luton returns to title action following a defeat to Kieron Conway for the WBA Intercontinental Title knowing a victory over the undefeated McKenna can reignite his career and set the stage for a successful 2024.

“A huge night of boxing in Liverpool just got even bigger,” said BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom. “McKenna vs Udofia is an excellent addition to an already stacked card. It’s a fascinating contest. McKenna has answered every question asked of him so far in his undefeated career. Udofia has tasted defeat but operated at a higher level and will look to use that experience to his advantage in what promises to be a real pick ‘em fight.”

Newly crowned British and Commonwealth Champion Jack Cullen returns to action in Liverpool defending his belts against former foe Zak Chelli. Cullen scored a memorable third-round TKO win over Mark Heffron in September to claim the British and Commonwealth Titles and will square off against former English Champion Chelli in a repeat of their all-action 2020 contest that ended in a draw.

Karriss Artingstall is back in business following a destructive second-round KO win over Vanessa Bradford on October 21st at York Hall. The 2020 Olympic medallist takes on Lila dos Santos Furtado as she looks to continue her climb up the featherweight ranks.

Mark Jeffers defends his English and Commonwealth Silver Super Middleweight Titles against Germaine Brown. Jeffers claimed the English and Commonwealth Silver Titles with points win over Zak Chelli after accepting a short notice fight last year. The undefeated Chorley boxer makes his first defence against Brown, who will be aiming to recapture the English Title he held in 2022.

Former IBO World Cruiserweight Champion Jack Massey, who took Joseph Parker the distance in a ten-round heavyweight contest in Manchester last year, returns to the ring and the 200lbs limit as he looks to start the New Year with a victory in Liverpool.

The event is presented in association with official partners bet365EverlastWOW HYDRATE and Integritas Property Group.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (January 6, 2024): Golden Boy Promotions has kicked off 2024 with another massive signing in the super lightweight division with the recruitment of former U.S. Olympian and former super lightweight World Champion Jose Ramirez (28-1, 18 KOs).

“I’m ready to be a two-time World Champion, and do it right now as well as stay active this year,” said José Ramirez. “I felt Oscar and Golden Boy could deliver both immediately as well as some big fights at this point in my career that I want. This is the most motivated I have been since I turned pro.”

“An Olympic pedigree. An incredible resumé that features two world titles. A massive and loyal fan base — José Ramirez has it all, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Golden Boy family,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. “Our plan for Ramirez is simple: get him back in the ring quickly, keep him active against the best of the best and show the world that he is still among the cream of the crop in the super lightweight division.”

“We know our value, and had to get a plan,” said Rick Mirigian, manager to Jose Ramirez. “Golden Boy stepped up and showed that Jose would be a priority to them with the deal he was given. The fights that can now be made at 140 in house are among the best in all of the sport, as Golden Boy has now taken a strong hold on the most exciting division in boxing.”

He went on to unify the WBC and WBO titles against Maurice Hooker on July 27, 2019, and successfully defended the two belts against Viktor Postol on August 29, 2020. He bounced back after his only blemish against Josh Taylor in a fight for undisputed on May 22, 202, with consecutive wins against Jose Pedraza (March 4, 2022) and Richard Commey (March 25, 2023).

Vergil Ortiz Jr. came back after a 17 month layoff to score a dubious first round stoppage over Fredrick Lawson in a 10-round middleweight bout at The Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas.

In the opening round, Ortiz drove Lawson back with a jab, and followed up with a flurry of punches that Lawson took. The punches were getting through but not enough for Tony Weeks to stop the bout, but the veteran referee did in fact stop the contest at 2:33.

“I’m ready for anyone. It felt like I’m back to doing what I usually do,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. “This is my calling; this is what I was made to do and I want to continue doing this. There’s a lot of fighters that I want to fight, but Tim Tszyu, with all due respect, I want him next. He’s a hell of a fighter and it would be an honor to take him next.”

Barroso, 139.6 lbs of El Tigre, VEN is 25-4-2 with 23 knockouts. Davies, 140 lbs of Hackney, ENG is 25-3.

“When I started boxing, they told me that I have a lot of power, and with God on my side I have that power.” said Ismael Barroso. “When I threw the first punch, I knew I had hurt him, I knew that I had him. The public has been calling for the fight with Romero, and I just want to say, I’m right here!”

Heavyweights Gurgen Hovhannisyan, Tsotne Rogava and Dante Stone shine in Impressive victories to open 2024 boxing

TACOMA, Wash. (January 5, 2024) – Last night’s first worldwide pro boxing event of 2004, “Pit Stop on Road to Greatness,” presented by Toro Promotions and Whitfield Haydon Boxing, showcased leading heavyweight prospects who were each impressive at the famed Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington.

“Pit Stop on Road to Greatness” was streamed live on www.bxngtv.com.

It took Armenian heavyweight Gurgen “Big Gug” Hovhannisyan (5-0, 5 KOs) a few rounds to shake off rust, but 6’ 7”, 278-pounder closed the main event with a devastating fifth-round knockout of a game Colby Madison (11-7-2, 7 KOs).

The 25-year-old “Big Gug” hadn’t fought since stopping Micharl Polite Coffie (13-2) on October 15, 2022, and his inactivity showed early against Madison. The fight was somewhat competitive until Madison caught Hovhannisyan with an overhead right in the fourth round that got Gurgen’s attention. He came out for the following round with a vengeance, trapped Madison in a corner, pummeling his opponent with a barrage of unanswered punches, until he crumbled to the canvas for a stirring end to their fight.

In the co-featured event, 2020 Ukrainian Olympian Tsotne Rogava stole the show in his Toro Promotions debut, brutally beating down previously undefeated heavyweight Dante Williams (4-1, 4 KOs) for an awesome knockout midway through the opening round. The Georgia-born Rogava, who stands 6’ 5” and weighed-in at 265 pounds, threw punches that sounded like cannon shots.

Hovhannisyan and Rogava are both trained by Hall of Famer Joe Goossen.

The Special Heavyweight Attraction matching Dante Stone and Alexander “The Great” Flores more than lived up to the pre-fight hype in a crossroads fight that opened the show. Stone (15-1, 10 KOs) extended his winning streak to 15 with an inspiring eight-round unanimous decision over Flores (18-4-1, 15 KOs), who’s previous three losses were all to world champions.

There was only knockdown, more of the flash version, when Stone connected with an overhand right in the eighth round that caught Flores, who fought valiantly from start to finish.

Nicaraguan super featherweight Nilo Guerrero (7-0, 6 KOs) turned in an auspicious United States debut, decking Chancellor Battenberg (2:51) in the first and second rounds, the latter leading to a technical knockout. Guerrero’s younger brother, bantamweight Nelson (2-0, 2 KOs), took on Gilberto Duran (4-8, 4 KOs) in an entertaining battle. Duran hit the mat twice in a bout that was stopped midway through the fourth round in Guerrero’s favor.

Tik Tok sensation Elijah Seawright (10-0, 7 KOs) won a six-round unanimous decision versus super welterweight Henry Rivera (2-3, 1 KO).

Local lightweight Agustin Tovar (1-0) pitched a shutout, winning all four rounds, for a unanimous decision against Ezra Rabin (1-5, 1 KO).

Fans who waited around for the final walkout bout of the night were treated to a non-stop action match, in which another local favorite, Nathan “Superman” Stolen (1-0, 1 KO), won his pro debut by way of a second-round technical knockout over Dazjhante “Flash” Frazier (0-2).

GIYASOV, VARGAS AND RIVERA FEATURE ON BERLANGA-MCCRORY UNDERCARD

Shakhram Giyasov meets Pablo Cesar Cano and Antonio Vargas faces Jonathan Rodriguez in World title eliminators, as hot prospect Yankiel Rivera fights for a first pro title on the undercard of the Super-Middleweight showdown between Edgar Berlanga and Padraig McCrory at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida on Saturday February 24, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS GO ON PRESALE ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 10 (10AM ET), AND ON GENERAL SALE ON JANUARY 11 (10AM ET) – VISIT MATCHROOMBOXING.COM TO SIGN UP FOR PRESALE

Giyasov (14-0 9 KOs) will look to make his claims for a World Welterweight title shot even louder when the WBA number #1 ranked Welterweight takes on former World title challenger Cano (35-8-1 25 KOs). The Uzbek beat Harold Calderon at a canter in June in New Orleans to make it to 14-0 in the paid ranks, and now seeks victory over the experienced Mexican who has won his last two fights inside the distance and sits at #6 with the WBA at 147lbs.

Vargas (17-1 9 KOs) and Rodriguez (17-1-1 7 KOs) clash in a fascinating eliminator for the WBA 118lb crown. Vargas will be on familiar territory for the biggest fight of his career to date, as the 27 year old steps through the ropes at Caribe Royale for the seventh straight fight, but the #2 ranked Floridian faces a man full of confidence in Puerto Rican Torres, who stunned the boxing world by sending former World champion Kal Yafai into retirement with a first round KO win in Los Angeles in November, and the #4 ranked 24 year old will be eager to build on that impressive showing against Vargas.

Former amateur stud Rivera (4-0 2 KOs) is ready to make his first significant impact on the paid ranks as he looks to get hold of his first belt by taking on Andy Dominguez for the WBA Continental Americas Flyweight title. The Puerto Rican Olympic sensation has already proved to be a hit in his four outings to date, but steps up in both opposition and rounds against the unbeaten Mexican Dominguez (10-0 6 KOs), who also fights for his first belt in the clash.

Florida’s Aaron Aponte (8-1-1 2 KOs) steps through the ropes for the 11th time in the paid ranks over eight rounds at Super-Lightweight, and Cuban Heavyweight and 2021 World Championship bronze medalist Herich Ruiz (4-0 3 KOs) is back in action over six, with opponents for both fighters to be named soon.

The bouts announced today feature on a star-studded line-up in Orlando, topped by the clash between explosive unbeaten Super-Middleweights Edgar Berlanga and Padraig McCrory, with the co-feature bout showcasing the continued rise of Cuba’s former Olympic Gold medal hero Andy Cruz, who defends his IBF International Lightweight title against Brayan Zamarippa.

NOAKES VS SYLVESTER SET FOR SHEERAZ-WILLIAMS UNDERCARD – COPPER BOX, 10 FEB

SAM NOAKES WILL fight English champion Lewis Sylvester at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday 10 February in the chief support to the mighty middleweight clash between Hamzah Sheeraz and Liam Williams, live on TNT Sports.

The Commonwealth and WBC International Silver belts currently owned by the 12-0 (12 KOs) Noakes will be on the line against the undefeated 13-0 (4 KOs) man from Hull.

Two-time World title challenger Anthony Yarde (24-3, 23) will return to action over 10 rounds at light heavyweight ahead of major title challenges in 2024.

The recently crowned Commonwealth Silver featherweight champion Masood Abdulah (9-0, 6) will make a first defence of his belt against the 2016 Olympian Qais Ashfaq (12-2, 5).

Sylvester, 25, won the vacant English title when he defeated the previously unbeaten Adam Cope in Sheffield via a unanimous verdict last July, before making a blistering first defence against Jimmy First in October when he took just over two minutes to complete the job.

Noakes has been on the title trail since the end of 2021 when he stopped Shaun Cooper for his WBC honour, before adding the Commonwealth to his cabinet with a fourth-round stoppage of Calvin McCord in November 2022. The charismatic Maidstone man extended his knockout run to 12 in December when Carlos Perez was accounted for in the fourth round at York Hall.

Islington’s Abdulah defeated Marc Leach in October to win his maiden title as a professional and he goes up against Leeds man Ashfaq, who dropped a split decision in challenge for the British super featherweight title against Liam Dillon in July

Also featuring at the Copper Box will be the WBC International super lightweight champion Pierce O’Leary (13-0, 7) making a third defence of his belt. While light heavyweight Karol Itauma (10-1, 7) continues his journey over eight rounds.

Cruiserweights Tommy Fletcher (5-0, 4) and Aloys Jr (5-1, 5), as well as welterweight Khalid Ali (7-0, 3) and featherweight Umar Khan (8-0) will fight over six rounds, with 1-0 newcomers Sam King (middleweight), Billy Adams (lightweight) and Charlie Hickford (super featherweight) having their second four round encounters.

“We are in for a busy night at the Copper Box in our first show of the year on February 10,” said promoter Frank Warren. “The main event speaks for itself, and I believe Hamzah Sheeraz and Liam Williams will deliver a captivating spectacle.

“The time has come for Sam Noakes to stake his claim at the top of the domestic scene, and we should be in for a cracking fight when he goes up against the undefeated English champion Lewis Sylvester, who will view this as his gateway to more big nights on a TV platform.

“The undercard is stacked, and fans can look forward to Anthony Yarde getting back into business in a 10-rounder before he returns to major title action a little further down the line. Pierce O’Leary and Masood Abdulah can also stake their claim to be part of headline fights over the course of this year.

“Our top prospects are also on parade, and I am particularly looking forward to seeing the rivalry between our knockout pair of cruiserweights, Tommy Fletcher and Aloys Jr, develop as they seek to out-do each other before, one day, they get to do it for real.”

Tickets for Sheeraz vs Williams on 10 February 2024 at the Copper Box Arena are on sale now available from ticketmaster.co.uk.

“My hope is for Moroccans to come support their fighter, Emiratis to back their warrior, and all other Arab nationals on the card to have their supporters and fanbase present live on January 13th at Yas Links Abu Dhabi. None of this would have been possible without our partners from the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi and our broadcasting partners, DAZN and ESPN Knockout.”

Gholam, who was rated No. 14 by the World Boxing Council WBC) at the time, was originally scheduled to headline the inaugural “Rising Stars Arabia” event this past September 9th. However, he was forced to withdraw due to an injury suffered during training camp, but he returns eager to establish himself as the future of Arab boxing in his Middle East debut fight.

The 28-year-old Gholam will take on South African “Baby” Lunga Sitemela (15-1, 9 KOs) in the 10-round main event. Gholam is a former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental and WBC Youth Silver Super Featherweight Champion. Sitemela is a former South African Super Featherweight Champion.

COE, LIDDARD AND SAINS ADDED TO BENN-DOBSON BILL

Khalil CoeGeorge Liddard and Jimmy Sains are all set to feature on the undercard of Conor Benn’s clash with Peter Dobson at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas on Saturday February 3, live worldwide on DAZN – with tickets on sale NOW.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!

Coe (7-0-1 5KOs) enjoyed a fruitful 2023 with three KO wins from three outings as the 26 year former Team USA talent continued his journey in the paid ranks, and his rising star at 175lbs will be tested to the maximum as the Jersey City man takes on Mexican KO artist Gerardo Osuna (20-0 18 KOs) over eight rounds, with the 23 year old also winning all three of his 2023 bouts inside the distance as he fights in the States for the first time in his career.

Two of Matchroom’s brightest young Brits get an early taste of the bright lights of Las Vegas as Liddard (5-0 3 KOs) and Sains (2-0 2 KOs) head Stateside alongside their fellow Tony Sims trained stars Benn and John Ryder, who faces Jaime Munguia live on DAZN from Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday January 27. Opponents for both men will be announced soon, with Liddard fighting over six and Sains over four, and both at Middleweight.

It’s a Brit-heavy card with Benn topping the bill alongside popular unbeaten Heavyweight Johnny Fisher (10-0 9 KOs), whose opponent will also be named soon, while the co-feature bout in Las Vegas features another unbeaten battle, as Middleweight contender Austin Williams takes on Connor Coyle for the WBA International and IBF North American titles. Like Benn, Williams (15-0 10 KOs) last stepped through the ropes in Orlando where he recorded a 15th win in the paid ranks over former World title challenger Steve Rolls. ‘Ammo’ sits pretty at #3 in the WBA rankings, and that’s a position that the man in the opposite corner would love to jump into, with Florida-based Irishman Coyle (20-0 9 KOs) sitting at #6 and entering the bout on a pair of wins this year, the latest being a fifth round KO win over Joey Bryant in Mississippi in August, in a third defense of his NABA Middleweight title.

February 8: Teofimo Lopez-Jamaine Ortiz & Keyshawn Davis-Jose Pedraza Doubleheader Kicks Off Big Game Weekend at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 4, 2024) — The lineal junior welterweight king is ready for a super show.

Teofimo Lopez will defend his WBO and Ring Magazine titles against Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Lopez-Ortiz headlines an action-packed televised doubleheader that kicks off Big Game Weekend.

In the 10-round lightweight co-feature, U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis faces Puerto Rican former two-division world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Takeover Promotions and CES Boxing, tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. PT and can be purchased at AXS.com

Lopez-Ortiz and Davis-Pedraza will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.

“Teofimo Lopez is among the best fighters in the world and always wants to fight the best available opponent. Jamaine Ortiz is a supreme talent who fits the bill,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “I believe Keyshawn Davis is a future world champion, but you can never count out a skilled two-weight world champion like Jose Pedraza. What a fantastic doubleheader for the fans watching on ESPN and at Michelob ULTRA Arena.”

Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) captured the IBF lightweight world title by defeating Richard Commey via second-round knockout in December 2019. The following October, he bested pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko to win the WBA, WBO, and WBC Franchise titles. Thirteen months later, he lost the belts via shocking split decision to George Kambosos Jr. The 26-year-old then moved up to junior welterweight in August 2022 with a seventh-round TKO against Pedro Campa and a split decision over Spanish southpaw Sandor Martin that December. In his latest fistic tour de force, Lopez upset former undisputed champion Josh Taylor to capture the WBO and Ring Magazine titles.

Lopez said. “February 8 at Mandalay Bay, ‘The Takeover’ will entertain inside that squared circle as only I can! To the boxing fans around the world, I look to not only dominate and break down Jamaine Ortiz, but to do it in such a fashion that my division will be put on alert.“

“Jamaine is tough. I would know, because I faced him back in the amateur days in 2015 for the National Golden Gloves Championship. I’ll show the world that champions don’t flinch when faced with challenges. They rise and shine the brightest when the stakes are highest. This one is for all my people on the Takeover Express! Let’s show the world once again what real boxing looks like.”

Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs), a seven-year pro, secured the NABF lightweight title by outpointing Nahir Albright in February 2022. The Worcester, Massachusetts, native then notched a decision win against former world champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring that May and rounded off the year with an exceptional showing against Lomachenko. Ortiz dropped the tightly contested battle to “Loma” by unanimous decision but responded with a one-sided points verdict over Antonio Moran in September.

Ortiz said, “This is the most important fight of my career. It’s my first world title bout. I believe this fight will bring out the very best in me, and I’m looking forward to coming home as the new champion!”

Davis (9-0, 6 KOs), from Norfolk, Virginia, has graduated from prospect to contender and is inching closer to a world title opportunity. After going 3-0 as a pro, he captured a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics. In November 2021, he signed a long-term promotional contract with Top Rank and has since tallied six victories. He had an active 2023 in which he stopped Anthony Yigit via ninth-round TKO in April and shut out Francesco Patera by 10-round decision in July. In October, he bested Philadelphia-born contender Nahir Albright by majority decision that was later ruled a no contest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation due to a positive marijuana test.

“I have all the respect in the world for Jose Pedraza and what he’s accomplished in the pro game,” Davis said. “This is type of step up I need to get to the next level, and I know Pedraza will bring his A-game. It’s his last chance to get back to title contention, but I won’t let that happen. I will show out for the fans in Las Vegas and everyone watching on ESPN.”

Pedraza (29-5-1, 14 KOs), from Cidra, Puerto Rico, won the IBF junior lightweight world title against Andrey Klimov in June 2015 and made title defenses against Edner Cherry and Stephen Smith. He captured the WBO lightweight world title against Rey Beltran in August 2018. After losing the title in a unification showdown against Lomachenko, he moved up to 140 pounds, where he a faced the likes of Jose Zepeda, Jose Ramirez, Richard Commey, Lindolfo Delgado and Arnold Barboza Jr. Pedraza returns to the lightweight division in hopes of another world title run.

Pedraza said, “Keyshawn Davis is going to experience what it’s like to face a two-division world champion. He’s never faced a boxer of my caliber, nor has he faced anyone even close to the caliber of my toughest opponents. He wants to continue climbing up the ranks, but on February 8, he’ll be falling off the ladder.”

The ESPN+-streamed undercard features a gamut of up-and-coming talents.

19-year-old lightweight phenom, Emiliano Fernando Vargas (8-0, 7 KOs), son of former junior middleweight world champion Fernando Vargas, will see action in a six-round clash against Tomas Ornelas (7-3, 5 KOs). Vargas went 6-0 with five knockouts in his sophomore year as a pro and is coming off a second-round destruction of Brandon Mendoza in November at T-Mobile Arena.

Lightweight prodigy Abdullah Mason (11-0, 9 KOs) will fight Benjamin Gurment (8-0-3, 5 KOs) in his first scheduled eight-rounder. Mason will look to capitalize on his 5-0 2023 campaign, which included a second-round TKO versus Jose Cardenas in November.

Unbeaten middleweight Javier “Milwaukee Made” Martinez (9-0-1, 3 KOs) will take on Raul Salomon (12-2, 10 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Martinez dropped Isaiah Wise three times en route to a first-round knockout in November.

Former Team USA amateur standout Charlie Sheehy (8-0, 5 KOs) will step up to the eight-round distance for the first time. Sheehy vanquished Jesus Vasquez Jr. by unanimous decision in November.

Unbeaten lightweight prospect Alan “Kid Kansas” Garcia (10-0, 8 KOs), the power-punching dynamo from Ulysses, Kansas, sees action in a six-rounder.

Former national amateur champion Art Barrera Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs) returns to the ring in a four-round junior welterweight fight.

“Javon is a super talented, exciting fighter and he’s going to get a lot of attention in the division. His work ethic is top notch and his desire for greatness is impressive and admirable. He’s coming off a split decision loss on a card promoted by overtime. The bout was ruled a draw after the 8th round and Javon won the 9th, but unfortunately based on the rules of Overtime, still lost in a majority decision. Woodard started boxing at the age of nine after he developed anger problems as a youth. His father took him to a boxing gym to give him an outlet.

That led to a distinguished amateur career that saw him go 89-12 with many National Championship victories.

“Before the year ends, I will be a contender for a world title. .I am looking and hoping for at least 3-4 fights this year. By signing with Mark and Wise Owl, that is now very possible.”

“My focus is boxing only. I have a son that motivates me to keep working hard towards my goals.

Woodard is trained by Kenny Williams

“I feel like I am one of the next big names in boxing. I want to fight anybody that is ranked above me and that will get me further up that rankings and closer to a world title opportunity.”

LOS ANGELES (January 2, 2024) – A heavyweight crossroads fight between Dante Stone (14-1, 10 KOs) and Alexander “The Great” Flores (18-3-1, 16 KOs) will be the first streamed pro boxing match of 2024 this Thursday evening at the famed Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington.

“Pit Stop on Road to Greatness” card, presented by Toro Promotions and Whitfield Haydon Boxing, will be streamed live on www.bxngtv.com pay per view for $19.99, opening with Stone versus Flores in an eight-round Special Heavyweight Attraction.

“Nobody knows how this fight will play out in terms of both the result and aesthetics of it. co-promoter Whit Haydon noted. “But the winner will get a good bounce off of the win and have something solid to point to on his resume. People are split across the board as to who they think will win.

“Also, this will be the first fight of the night and will open the pay-per-view telecast, effectively making this the very first fight worldwide of 2024.”

Fighting out of Chandler, Arizona, the 29-year-old Stone lost his pro debut in 2018 by way of a four-round unanimous decision, but he’s been unbeaten ever since with 14 straight wins.
