STATEMENT FROM GOLDEN BOY REGARDING RECENT LAWSUIT AGAINST OSCAR DE LA HOYA

LOS ANGELES, CA. (Oct. 22 2019): A frivolous lawsuit was filed recently alleging that Oscar De La Hoya sexually assaulted ‘Jane Doe,’ which is completely false. Oscar is a very successful businessman, running one of the country’s leading sports and entertainment companies – thus a prime target. It is worth noting that both recent lawsuits have been filed by the same attorney who is looking to make a name for himself. We vehemently deny these allegations and look forward to vigorously defending Oscar’s good name and reputation.

NGABU – I HAVE TOO MUCH IN MY ARSENAL FOR OKOLIE

Reigning EBU European Cruiserweight Champion Yves Ngabu believes that he will have too much in his arsenal for his latest challenger Lawrence Okolie as they prepare to clash on the huge Regis Prograis vs. Josh Taylor card at The O2 in London this Saturday, shown live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Hailing from the suburbs of Roeselare in the Flemish province of West Flanders, Belgium, but fighting out of the world-famous Wincobank gym in Sheffield under the guidance of Dominic Ingle, Ngabu is primed to make the third defence of his European crown against British and Commonwealth champ Okolie.

Ngabu captured the coveted European title in 2017 as he sent opponent Tamas Lodi of Hungary to the canvas in round four, and moments later scored a stoppage in what would become a momentous night in the history of Belgian boxing.

In his maiden defence Ngabu halted Geoffrey Battelo in three rounds in January 2018 but was forced to travel the full 12 rounds by Micki Nielsen in his last defence in February this year.

The 30-year-old arrives in London sporting an impressive looking 20-0 record, with 14 of those wins coming via KO or stoppage, and he plans to inflict the first defeat on the record of rising star Okolie.

“He has good power and a long reach but I feel like I have much more than him in my arsenal”, said Ngabu. “I know how Lawrence fights. People say he holds a lot but I know that and I have prepared for him on the inside. This is my time.

“I can adapt to every style. I can fight, I can punch and I can take punches too. I’m ready and I have done everything that I could have done to prepare for this fight. I have a great trainer in Dominic Ingle and I’m going to win this fight no matter what.

“I have fought guys with a bigger punch than him, I’ve fought guys who are more experienced than him so I am more than ready for Lawrence Okolie. He’s the best in his weight in the UK but he hasn’t made the jump to European level yet. This is his test.

“When I first came to this country my mission was to get a top trainer and then to win my fights,” added Ngabu. “I come from a small country where the sport is not famous, not big. So these are the things I need to do to show me to the world and what I can do.

“The British fans are the best in the world but I’m focused only on my job. I want to reach the top and to do that I need to beat Lawerence Okolie. I know he is the best Cruiserweight in the U.K, that is why I have to fight him to get him out of my way. I’m ready to go!”

Okolie vs. Ngabu is part of a huge night of action in London.

Main event sees WBA Super-Lightweight Champion Regis Prograis (24-0, 20 KOs) and IBF Super-Lightweight Champion Josh Taylor (15-0, 13 KOs) square off for the World Boxing Super Series Ali Trophy, Liverpool Heavyweight fan favourite David Price (25-6, 20 KOs) steps in to face Derek Chisora (31-9, 22 KOs) in a huge all-British clash, three weight World Champion Ricky Burns (43-7-1, 16 KOs) tackles former IBF Lightweight ruler Lee Selby (27-2, 9 KOs) in an intriguing match-up at 135lbs, Conor Benn (15-0, 10 KOs) defends his WBA Continental Welterweight title against Steve Jamoye (26-7-2, 5 KOs), German Super-Middleweight talent Denis Radovan (12-0-1, 5 KOs) meets former Commonwealth Champion Luke Blackledge (26-8-2, 9 KOs), Watford Bantamweight prospect Shannon Courtenay (3-0, 1 KO) aims to go 4-0, Houston Middleweight talent Austin Williams (3-0, 3 KOs) fights in the UK for the first time and Berlin’s Abass Baraou (7-0, 4 KOs) takes on John O’Donnell (33-2, 11 KOs) for the WBC International Super-Welterweight title.

CROLLA FACES URQUIAGA IN FAREWELL FIGHT

Anthony Crolla will face Frank Urquiaga for the WBA Continental Lightweight title in his farewell fight at Manchester Arena on Saturday November 2, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Former Lightweight World Champion Crolla (34-7-3, 13 KOs) fittingly returns to the scene of his greatest triumph to call the curtains on a memorable career after challenging pound-for-pound star Vasiliy Lomachenko for the WBA and WBO Lightweight titles in Los Angeles earlier this year.

The Mancunian hero won the WBA Lightweight crown against Darleys Perez on a hugely emotional evening at Manchester Arena in November 2015 and successfully defended his title against Ismael Barroso at the same venue the following year.

‘Million Dollar’ made his professional debut at Manchester Arena – then MEN Arena – back in 2006, outpointing Abdul Rashid. In a professional career spanning over 13 years Crolla has fought at the iconic North West venue a total of 13 times, and he is ready to say an emotional goodbye to his legion of fans next week.

“This is it, the final one,” said Crolla. “I’ve had so many great nights at the arena down the years, so I’m pleased to be finishing where it all started.

“Urquiaga knows this is his golden chance, a win against me and he throws his name further into the mix. I can’t let the emotions get to me, I’ve got a job to do first and foremost – I want to bow out with a win.

“The support and atmosphere has always been special at the arena, I’m forever thankful. I’m determined to put on a show for one last time.”

“It’s a great honour to fight a warrior like Anthony Crolla in his last fight,” said Urquiaga. “Of course, it is a great opportunity for me to win and make a big step to the next level, where there are a lot of good British fighters such as Luke Campbell, Joe Cordina, Lee Selby and Ricky Burns. I’m working hard for this opportunity, I know that British fans are unbelievable, and I want to give them an unbelievable fight.”

“This is going to be a special moment for Anthony, Manchester and British Boxing,” said Eddie Hearn “Anthony has been one of the great success stories and the experiences he has given us all in that arena are ones we will never forget.

“It’s always difficult choosing the right time to walk away, especially when, as he has this camp, you are looking and feeling so good! We have had some long chats about the decision and this is it, all the effort and emotion into one last dance and one last title at his spiritual home.”

Crolla vs. Urquiaga is part of a huge night of action in Manchester.

Main event sees Irish star Katie Taylor (14-0, 6 KOs) attempt to create history by becoming a two-weight World Champion as she takes on Christina Linardatou (12-1, 6 KOs) for the WBO Super-Lightweight World title, Joshua Buatsi (12-0, 10 KOs) steps up again to take on another former World title challenger in Blake Caparello (30-3-1, 13 KOs), Felix Cash (11-0, 7 KOs) defends his Commonwealth Middleweight title against English Champion Jack Cullen (17-1, 8 KOs), Qais Ashfaq (7-0, 3 KOs) fights for his first pro title as he meets Joe Ham (16-1, 6 KOs)fortheWBA Continental Super-Bantamweight crown, recent Matchroom Boxing signing Terri Harper (8-0, 5 KOs) makes the first defence of her IBO World title against Vivian Obenauf (14-5, 7 KOs)and there’s also action for Sheffield Super-Lightweight Dalton Smith (3-0, 2 KOs), Birmingham Featherweight Gamal Yafai (16-1, 9 KOs), along with the professional debut of Leeds amateur standout Hopey Price.

BRIAN CARLOS CASTAÑO TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

NORWALK, Ca. (October 21, 2019) – Undefeated former champion Brian Carlos Castaño will look to further cement his place in the 154-pound division when he battles exciting veteran contender Wale “Lucky Boy” Omotoso in a 10-round super welterweight showdown that headlines FS1 PBC Fight Night and on FOX Deportes Saturday, November 2 from MGM National Harbor in Maryland.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting www.mgmnationalharbor.com/.

Castaño most recently fought in a standout back and forth title match against Erislandy Lara in March that ended in a split-draw. With a win on November 2, the unbeaten Argentine will put himself in position for either a rematch with Lara or one of the other standouts in the stacked division.

Here is what Castaño had to say from training camp at Legends Gym in Norwalk, California with his head trainer and father Carlos as he discussed his showdown against Omotoso, his most recent fight, future matchups and more:

What are you looking to show to the rest of this division in the fight against Omotoso?

“As I do in every fight, I try to prove that I belong among the best in the division. I may no longer be a world champion, but I still feel I am a world champion because I didn’t lose in the ring. So, I want to show against Omotoso and the world that I’m ready for everyone.”

What do you know about Omotoso’s style and what kind of fight can fans expect?

“He is a warrior that always comes straight forward to fight. He has proven many times that he can take punches and compete with anyone. Since I´m a warrior too, I think the fans are going to be in for an exciting war.”

What did you think of the decision in the Lara fight? Did you believe you did enough to win the fight?

“Even though I know it was a competitive fight, I know I did enough to get the win. I respect Lara as a great champion, but you cannot win fights of that level by only backpedaling all the time. I applied the pressure and connected with great punches, so I saw myself as the winner.”

Is the rematch with Lara the fight you want with a win on November 2?

“I thought I was going to have the rematch with Lara already but he probably didn’t want it. First things first, I have a tough challenge in front of me in Omotoso and I never underestimate anybody. I have to beat him in convincing fashion in order to earn another world title shot, either with Lara or any of the other top fighters in the division.”

How does it feel to be sharing a card with another one of Argentina’s best fighters, Jesus Cuellar (who fights Javier Fortuna in the co-main event)? Is there added inspiration because Argentina will be so represented on the telecast?

“It’s always a great honor to represent Argentina in the U.S., which is the mecca of boxing. To share the card with a guy like Cuellar, whom I’ve known well since our times together on Argentina’s national team in the amateurs, will definitely be something meaningful. I know we’re both working hard to make our country proud on November 2.”

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (October 21, 2019) – Undefeated New Haven light heavyweight prospect Charles Foster has been selected as the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame (CBHOF) 2019 Professional Boxer of the Year.

Other award winners include Felix Parilla, Amateur Boxer of the Year; Glenn Feldman, Professional Official of the Year; Sherman Cain, Contribution to Boxing; Kevin and Rona Smith, Amateur Officials of the Year.

The award recipients will be honored at the 15TH annual CBHOF Gala Induction Dinner on Saturday night, November 9, in the Uncas Ballroom at Mohegan Sun.

The new CBHOF inductees are boxers Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, “Bad” Chad Dawson, Delvin Rodriguez, Eddie Campo and Teddy “Redtop” Davis, as well as referee Arthur Mercante, Sr.

“Our Hall of Fame honorees this year are most deserving,” CBHOF president John Laudati said.”Glenn Feldman was an easy choice for Professional Official of the Year as he judged the biggest pro fights of the year. Amateur Officials Kevin and Rona Smith have rapidly risen through the ranks of amateur officials. Felix Parilla continued to reach the highest levels of amateur boxing again this year. Our professional Boxer of the Year, Charles Foster, is and up-and-comer who currently holds a major title and will certainly capture more. I couldn’t be happier for Sherman Cain, who has humbly toiled for decades as one of the top sports writers in Connecticut.”

The 29-year-old Foster (19-0, 9 KOs), ranked No. 7 in the world by the WBA, has made two successful title defenses of his NABA light heavyweight title in 2019. He scored a TKO victory over Mike Jimenez (22-1-2) in March. In August, Foster captured a unanimous decision over Denis Grachev. Foster earned the NABA title last November with a victory over Israel Duffus. Prior to that win, Foster traveled to Philadelphia to hand unbeaten Alvin Varmall Jr. (15-0-1) his first defeat. Foster has fought nine times in Connecticut, including four appearances at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Yet another standout fighter from New Haven with a promising future, Parilla was named the Outstanding Boxer at the New England Tournament of Champions for the second straight year. Fighting in the 123-pound division, Parilla took part in the 2019 National Golden Gloves Tournament. He reached the championship final of the 2018 National Gloves. He was beaten in the second round this past May at The Nationals, but the fighter he lost a 3-2 decision to, Rajon Chance, of New Jersey, made it to the finals before losing 4-1 to Asa Stevens of Hawaii. Parilla is also a two-time Western New England Golden Gloves champion.

Cain was on the boxing beat for 40 years as a sportswriter for the Journal Inquirer in Manchester. He covered world championship fights involving Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Marlon Starling, Mark Breland, Roberto Duran, Chad Dawson, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Marvin Hagler among many others. Cain has received awards for his writing from the Connecticut Society for Professional Journalists and the New England Associated Press News Executive Association.

A member of and founder of the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame, Feldman has had a busy 2019. The most notable of the title fights Feldman has judged this year was the Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman WBA super welterweight championship bout in July. In May, Feldman was one of the judges for the WBA, WBC, IBF middleweight title fight between Daniel Jacobs and Saul Alvarez. In demand because of his abilities, Feldman has judged more than 1000 bouts and 175 world title fights during his 30-year career spanning 20 countries.

It was just more than two years ago that Kevin and Roma Smith attended an amateur show. The husband-wife duo was hooked. They became officials for USA Boxing and quickly advanced through the ranks, becoming the first two Connecticut officials to achieve Level II status. The Smiths, married for 23 years, attend nearly every amateur show in Connecticut and have become respected members of the boxing community.

Tickets for the CBHOF 15th annual Gala Induction Dinner, reasonably priced at $90.00, are on sale and available to purchase by calling Ann Murphy at Mohegan Sun (1.860.862.8846) or Sherman Cain at 1.860.212.9029. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. ET, followed by a full sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. ET.

Swansea’s Chris Jenkins (22-3-2, 8 KOs) risks his British Welterweight championship against mandatory challenger Liam Taylor (21-1, 10 KOs).

Liverpool’s Sam Maxwell (12-0, 10 KOs) defends his WBO European Super-Lightweight championship against Derbyshire’s Connor Parker (12-0, 1KO).

Hamzah Sheeraz (9-0, 5KOs) will also be involved in his first title fight.

The undercard features bantamweight starlet Dennis McCann (4-0, 3KOs), Eithan James (1-0), Shabaz Masoud (6-0, 1KO), George Davey (1-0), Nathan Heaney (8-0, 2KOs), Ryan Kelly (14-2, 7KOs) and River Wilson-Bent (5-0, 2KOs)

Here are a selection of quotes from the presser staged at Birmingham City FC.

SAM BOWEN

“I went to watch Anthony when he boxed Martin J Ward because I thought we would meet sooner. He is a good lad and nobody can say I am fighting someone rubbish. I am excited for this one. I want to be busier, but I’ve been injured. If I had boxed Anthony when I was injured in August he would have beaten me. There are a lot of good fights in the super-featherweight division, but I am only bothered about Anthony.”

ANTHONY CACACE

“This fight was meant to happen twice before and now it is happening. I know he is a good fighter and what he brings to the table. Sam is a hard man, but I can box southpaw or orthodox, move and fight. Can he do that?

LERRONE RICHARDS

“It is never going to be an easy fight for a British title and you have to find that little bit more to win it and I am expecting a tough fight. I give myself a C-minus for my performance against Tommy Langford, but you will see what I can do next month. Lennox can box a bit and fight. I respect him as a fighter and he will bring his A game.”

LENNOX CLARKE

“Lerrone is a good boxer and I know what he is going to bring. We are six weeks out and I’ll be more than ready. Technically is he a good boxer, but I won’t allow him to do what he wants. I do a lot of tickets. That is why it is in Birmingham and hopefully I get a result. This is a massive opportunity and my chance to make a statement.”

CHRIS JENKINS

“A lot of my recent success is down to my trainer, Gary Lockett. He is more than a coach but also a mentor and friend. I do get cut often, but I just get on with it and don’t panic. I just think, ‘stitches again, here we go.’ I know this will be a hard fight and I have been in camp for two weeks. I am a British level fighter so to win a Lonsdale belt outright is my world title. I need two more defences.”

LIAM TAYLOR

“I’ve been waiting a long tome for this. I’ve been a professional for eight years and this is what I’ve trained for. Chris is a good boxer, skilled and doesn’t have many faults, but that is what you want for a British title challenge. Winning a Lonsdale belt would be special. The British title was my goal when I turned professional.”

SAM MAXWELL

“I got the exposure in my last fight with the KO going viral and people can relate to it. BT Sport still show it and long may it continue. Connor hasn’t lost a round so far and he is a good tidy boxer so I will have to be at my best. Connor doesn’t know how to lose and we will give it our all.”

CONNOR PARKER

“It is fights like this why I box and I cannot wait. Beating Kevin Hooper was big, but this is more. I can hit harder than my record suggests.  Sam is really good and he will bring the best out of me. Last time there may have been a blueprint to beat Sam, but it may have been an off night for him until the knockout.’

HAMZAH SHEERAZ

“I am looking forward to fighting on a bill of this magnitude and winning my first title fight. I am heading in the right direction and this fight will be my breakout performance. In two to three years I want to be knocking on the door for world titles.”

SHABAZ MASOUD

“It looks like everybody got a buzz off my last performance. I have always known I was good and I want to show people what I’m about. I have a lot of family in Birmingham and there will be a big turnout.”

DENNIS MCCANN

“I have been boxing since I was five years old and love boxing. I’m a traveller and lived in Birmingham for a while but would still travel to London three times a week for training at Repton. It has been going to plan and I should be stopping the opponents I have. That will continue when I step up.”

OKOLIE: I’LL STOP NGABU

Lawrence Okolie can take another step towards a World title when he challenges dangerous EBU European Champion Yves Ngabu at The O2 in London this Saturday, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the US.

The unbeaten 26-year-old Londoner has proved himself the dominant force on the domestic Cruiserweight scene in the last two years and now he plans to reign supreme in Europe when he meets the toughest test of his career in Belgium’s Ngabu.

Ngabu, trained by Dominic Ingle at the world-famous Wincobank gym in Sheffield, could be considered a big step up in class for Okolie, however, the 6’5” British and Commonwealth Champion is supremely confident of ripping the belt from the undefeated visitor in impressive style.

“I’ll stop him,” said Okolie without hesitation when asked about his thoughts on the fight. “Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good fighter with good footwork and he believes in his power. He will come to have a fight but I’ll take his title away from him.

“It’s more about the belt. I don’t know him or care about him as a person. He’s got something that I want in the European title. I want to have won the British, Commonwealth and European titles within 14 fights. He’s highly-ranked and undefeated too so it’ll be a good string to my bow.

“He’s 20-0 with 14 knockouts, he’s a solid opponent. He hasn’t really boxed too many top level opponents. This is a good step-up and I’d like one more before I start challenging for World titles. It’s an interesting time in the Cruiserweight division where belts are free and there’s new guys coming through.”

Okolie vs. Ngabu is part of a huge night of action in London.

Main event sees WBA Super-Lightweight Champion Regis Prograis (24-0, 20 KOs) and IBF Super-Lightweight Champion Josh Taylor (15-0, 13 KOs) square off for the World Boxing Super Series Ali Trophy, Liverpool Heavyweight fan favourite David Price (25-6, 20 KOs) steps in to face Derek Chisora (31-9, 22 KOs) in a huge all-British clash, three weight World Champion Ricky Burns (43-7-1, 16 KOs) tackles former IBF Lightweight ruler Lee Selby (27-2, 9 KOs) in an intriguing match-up at 135lbs, Conor Benn (15-0, 10 KOs) defends his WBA Continental Welterweight title against Laszlo Toth (28-5-1, 19 KOs), German Super-Middleweight talent Denis Radovan (12-0-1, 5 KOs) meets former Commonwealth Champion Luke Blackledge (26-8-2, 9 KOs), Watford Bantamweight prospect Shannon Courtenay (3-0, 1 KO) aims to go 4-0, Houston Middleweight talent Austin Williams (3-0, 3 KOs) fights in the UK for the first time and Berlin’s Abass Baraou (7-0, 4 KOs) takes on John O’Donnell (33-2, 11 KOs) for the WBC International Super-Welterweight title.

Cody “The Crippler” Crowley improves to 18-0

PETERBOROUGH, Ottawa, Canada (October 20, 2019) – Hometown hero and world-rated Canadian boxer Cody “The Crippler” Crowley made a major statement last night before a sold-out crowd, headlining a loaded “Homecoming V: Going Global” card, at Peterborough Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Canada.

“Homecoming V: Going Global”, presented by CCC Promotions, was the first boxing event streamed live and exclusively from Canada on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports.

Crowley (18-0, 10 KOs), rated No. 9 in the world as a welterweight by the World Boxing Association (WBA), is a bonafide Peterborough sports franchise ready to take on the next level of world-class opponents.

The 26-year-old Irish Canadian boxer came out strong from the opening bell and the aggressive southpaw never let up en route to a 10-round shutout (100-90 X 3) triumph against his over-matched challenger from Montreal, “Super” Mian Hussain (16-2, 6 KOs). Crowley retained his CPNC National super welterweight crown with a totally dominate performance.

“It’s hard to knock a guy out when he goes into survival mode in the second round,” Crowley said after the fight. “People keep telling me they are going to come and fight, so I prepare for a dogfight every single time, but these guys don’t want to fight for some reason when I get in there. So, I have to go to the worst part of my game, which is boxing. I feel like I put on a good clinic. I was touching his head and touching his body. I was even pulling back my punches and changing direction.

“I had so much pressure on me. I had Dana White, the biggest promoter in the world, watching Peterborough tonight. Who would have thought that? I’m beyond happy. My team, UFC FIGHT PASS…..this is just the start of our journey together.

“It was a great performance and a great show. I give myself an A- on performance and A+ on the promotion (Crowley is co-founder of CCC Promotions).”

Popular Canadian lightweight Tony “The Lightning” Luis (29-3, 10 KOs), past Interim World title challenger, won an eight-round unanimous decision over Ricardo “Riky” Lara (22-6, 10 KOs), of Mexico, in the co-featured event.

Canadian super lightweight Lucas Bahdi (5-0, 5 KOs) kept his perfect pro record intact, knocking out Mexican Victor Manuel “El Pimientas” Campos (6-9, 2 KOs) in the opening round.

Four-time New Zealand amateur champion Patrick “Magic” Mailata (3-0, 2 KOs) remained undefeated, winning all four rounds on the three judges’ scorecards, versus previously unbeaten Jorge Sevilla “Bombon” Acosta (2-0, 2 KOs).

In the UFC FIGHT NIGHT opener, New York heavyweight Moses Johnson (5-0, 5 KOs) extended his perfect pro record, stopping Mexican Jose Manuel “Dinamita” Paredes (3-4-3) in round

Undefeated Canadian super lightweight Mazlum Akdeniz (10-0, 4 KOs) impressed against Hungarian knockout artist Adam “Bad Boy” Mate (28-16, 21 KOs), registering a second-round knockout.

United Kingdom super lightweight Adam “Hitman” Hague (16-1-1, 2 KOs) won a six-round unanimous decision versus his previously undefeated Mexican foe, Alan “Superman” Ayala (7-1, 3 Kos).

In the opening match of the night, Canadian super lightweight Jessica “The Cobra” Camara (7-1, 0 KOs) decisioned Beatriz Jimenez (6-3, 1 KO), of Mexico.

Gvozdyk out of Hospital

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former WBC Light Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk left Temple University Hospital following a two-night stay following is knockout defeat to Artur Beterbiev on Friday night.

“All is clear,” Teddy Atlas, Gvozdyk’s trainer, who accompanied him to the hospital, told ESPN on Sunday. “No [brain] bleed or anything. Thank God, just a minor concussion from the hits to the back of the head they said, but we needed to be sure.”

Javier Flores Stuns Angel Ruiz in Second Round KO Win Friday Night

ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2019) – In the night’s sole upset, Puerto Rico’s Javier Flores (15-2, 13 KOs) downed previously unbeaten welterweight prospect Angel Ruiz (16-1, 12 KOs) with a counter right hand in the second round of the “Path to Glory” main event on Friday night.

Both southpaws started tentative, content with feeling each other out in the opening stanza. Once the second round started, however, Ruiz, 22, began to apply pressure with Flores handling it with ease.

Behind a tight and high guard, Flores, 33, was able to neutralize the Ruiz attack and took advantage of his aggressiveness by timing a right hook across his jaw that dropped him for good at the 2:02 mark.

In the co-feature, lightweight George Acosta (8-1, 1 KO) ran the table on the overmatched Roberto Almazan (9-13, 4 KOs). Acosta, who had a sizeable contingent of fans in attendance, out boxed and out maneuvered Almazan throughout the six-round fight.

He cautiously landed combinations and defended well, often frustrating Almazan into throwing wild shots. Scores 60-54 all around.

In his U.S. debut, junior welterweight prospect Alec Zavala (4-0, 3 KOs) knocked out Carlos Apodaca (3-14-2, 1 KO) at the 1:02 mark of the opening round. Zavala, who is from California’s Inland Empire region east of Los Angeles, landed a left to the midsection that crippled Apodaca.

Zavala, 23, is an intriguing talent with a solid combination of size, strength and speed. He appeared measured and calm in seeking the knockout win – rare traits for fighters that young.

Super bantamweight Ivan Zarate (1-0) was successful in his professional debut, earning a unanimous decision win against Neri Garcia (1-9). Zarate landed a thundering right hand in the first round that put Garcia on his back. Garcia would rally and make it a close fight, but the first round knockdown proved too much to overcome. Scores 38-37 all around.

The “Path to Glory” show opener between lightweights Golden Garcia (11-0-2, 6 KOs) and Hector Garcia (14-7-3, 8 KOs) ended in a draw with all three judges scoring it 57-57.

Both fighters loaded up on power shots throughout the six-round fight and each had their moments. Toward the end of the second round, Hector staggered Golden with consecutive body shots but was unable to close, as the bell saved Golden from further trouble.

The fourth round belonged to Golden, with the Canadian connecting frequently on two-punch combinations. In the end, neither fighter could build enough momentum to steal a close win.

All fights were streamed live on TB Presents: Path to Glory.

“Path to Glory” was presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Everlast.

Gvozdyk hospitalized after Beterbiev fight

Following his stoppage defeat to Artur Beterbiev, former WBC Light Heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Gvozdyk remained hospitalized at Temple University hospital, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I’m still here with him,” trainer Teddy Atlas said. “I just brought him last night because he had pain behind his head from the punches he got hit there, so they did a scan and saw a possible small something and did another scan six hours later and [the doctor] wanted us to stay 24 hours to be safe. So we canceled his flight, and I will stay with him here another night, then [on Sunday] bring him to my home [in New York] — just again to be safe. Then Monday, he will fly home. He is OK.

“He’s fine, but we are still here just as precaution and will stay the night. [On Sunday] morning, if all is the same, they will discharge him.”

Beterbiev stops Gvozdyk in 10 to unify Light Heavyweight titles

PHILADELPHIA-Artur Beterbiev not only kept his perfect knockout streak in-tact, but he unified two light heavyweight titles with an emphatic 10th round stoppage over Oleksandr Gvozdyk to retain his IBF and win the WBC crowns.

It was a close fight with each guy taking turns winning round’s. Gvozdyk was trying to box from the outside where Beterbiev was looking for power shits throughout the fight.

Towards the end of round one, Beterbiev threw Gvozdyk to the canvas. It was initally ruled a knockdown, but state commissioner Greg Sirb ruled a push. Both showed why this fight was viewed as a pick-em fight on paper as the fight was fought at an extreme high-level of class.

The fight started going Beterbiev’s way in round nine as he landed hard shots on a tired Gvozdyk. In round ten, Gvozdyk gave in as he was sent to the canvas three times by the still hard punching Beterbiev, and referee Gary Rosato stopped the bout at 2:49.

Beterbiev, 174.5 lbs of Montreal is 15-0 with 15 knockouts. Gvozdyk, 174,3 lbs of Khartov, UKR is 17-1.

“We work in the gym We work hard, and we have some targets,” Beterbiev said. “My first target, second target and other one comes soon.

“It doesn’t matter {who I fight next.} Anyone. I’m focused on title, not on name.”

Kudratillo Abdukakhorov won a 10-round unanimous decision over former world champion Luis Collazo in a welterweight bout.

In round eight, Collazo started to bleed from around the left eye. In round nine, Collazo suffered a nasty cut over his right eye, and the bout was stopped.

When the scores were announced, it was Abdukakhorov won by 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93, and is now 17-0. Collazo, 146.4 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 39-8.

“I am the IBF No. 1 contender, and I would like to fight for the title fight next,” Abdukakhorov said. “I wanted to fight Errol Spence Jr., but unfortunately he got in a car accident. I wish him a speedy recovery, and if he’s ready to fight soon, I would like to fight him. If he has to vacate the title, then I will fight whoever they put in front of me.”

Collazo injured his biceps in the fifth round and was unable to throw his left hand much throughout the second half of the fight.

“Hey, it is what it is. This is part of the sport,” Collazo said. “We’ll see what’s next.”

Sonny Conto remained perfect by stopping Steve Lyons after round one of their four round heavyweight bout.
