“I’M GOING TO KNOCK YOU OUT” VINCENT FEIGENBUTZ WARNS NUNEZ

Vincent Feigenbutz (30-2, 27 KOs) came face-to-face with his opponent Cesar Nunez (16-0-1, 8 KOs) for the first time today at the official press conference ahead of their IBO International title fight on Saturday 17 August in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Feigenbutz, known as ‘The KO King’ due to his 84% knockout rate, won the WBA Super Middleweight World title in 2015 and is hoping that winning the IBO International title will help him force a fight with Chris Eubank Jr.

Both fighters were in high spirits at the Best Western Leoso Hotel as they met in front of the assembled media ahead of Saturday’s match up.

“Preparing for the fight in my home country and boxing close to my hometown is great,” said Karlsruhe native Feigenbutz. “I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere in the arena and I will do everything I can to get the knockout.”

The unbeaten Spaniard Cesar Nunez was equally confident ahead of his first international fight “This is the biggest fight of my career. I have a plan for each round and I will do everything I can to beat Vincent!”

Inigo Herbosa, manager of Cesar Nunez, echoed his fighter’s confidence informing the media “Cesar is perfectly prepared and will take his chance. It’s his most difficult fight so far as Vincent is clearly one of the best in the world.”

“Cesar is at a point in his career where he wants to box the best and prove himself abroad. The risk is great, but the reward is greater.”

“Vincent’s time is now, he’s ready to take the next step on his ‘Road to the Top’ and very soon he will be a World Champion once again,” said Feigenbutz’s promoter Nisse Sauerland.”

“We also have two of our newest signings from Norway in Katharina Thanderz (11-0, 2 KOs) and Hadi Srour (3-0, 2 KOs) making their Team Sauerland debuts and they are both always in exciting fights.”

“As well as a fantastic 50/50 fight between Ahmad Ali (14-0-1, 10 KOs) and Arman Torosyan (19-6-1, 16 KOs), we can’t wait to see ‘Die Zukunft’ 17-year-old Sophie Alisch (3-0, 1 KO) back in action. Sophie is looking to produce another dazzling performance and she’s already talking about world titles.”

All the action from the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle is available to watch live on Sport1 in Germany and Viasport+ and Viaplay in Norway. Tickets are available online via www.eventim.de or by calling +49 01806-570440.

REID READY FOR TITLE TILT

THE LONG RUNNING quest of Lucien Reid to become involved in title fights certainly rings true with the old saying about London buses.

Reid has been waiting, impatiently, for a title opportunity to come along then all of a sudden, like the buses, two have arrived at once.

‘Lethal’ Lucien, 25, will challenge for the British and Commonwealth super bantamweight titles held by Brad Foster when the pair meet at York Hall on September 14, live on BT Sport.

It is just reward for the 8-0-1 former amateur standout who has recently changed his training location from the base of Adam Booth in Redhill to Alan Smith’s thriving gym in Bromley.

After being kept waiting at the shelter for a lengthy period, Reid almost reached the point of believing his boxing bus would not ultimately arrive.

“I did, I’ve been calling for a title fight for years because, not being funny, with my amateur background I have done everything, boxed all different styles and I know what I am capable of,” explained the Hackney-born Reid, who made his professional debut in May 2015.

“To be honest, boxing journeyman-type opponents left me not getting up for it and that is why in my last fight (against the 9-1 Indi Sangha) I was happy to be up against someone with a good record.

“I want titles as I have a boy, who is six now, and he doesn’t care about me winning fights, he just wants me to have belts. I now just want to be one of those dads who can show off to him.”

Reid, who has previously been nominated for Southern Area and English honours that have not come to fruition, accepts he is probably not everybody’s ideal choice for when it comes to putting titles on the line.

“I think I have been too much of a risk for a champion to fight me with not much of a reward. Especially if they are not with Frank Warren. Why would they take a fight knowing they are going to lose?” added Reid, who suffered the only blemish to his record last time out against Sangha when the fight was stopped in the third round due to him sustaining a nasty cut above his right eye.

However, the fact that a double-title encounter comes next shows that no long-term harm was done to his prospects.

“It was annoying and, at the time, I was devastated, obviously. I was into my flow and feeling good, but now it looks like a blessing in disguise because look what has come from it.

“I’m hoping Brad Foster looked at that fight and thought ‘this will be easy’. That wasn’t how I box normally and everything is changing.”

Brad Foster (11-0-1, 4KOS) v Lucien Reid (8-0-1, 4KOs) for the British and Commonwealth super bantamweight titles features on an exciting card at York Hall on September 14 that also includes Sunny Edwards (12-0, 4 KOs) bidding to win the vacant IBF International flyweight crown against Mexico’s Hugo Rosendo Guarneros (16-2-2, 8 KOs) and Dec Spelman (16-2, 8KOs) risking his English light-heavyweight championship against Shakan Pitters (12-0, 4KOs).

In a magnificent British light-heavyweight title eliminator, expect fireworks when Zak Chelli (7-0, 3KOs) comes up against Kody Davies (9-0, 3 KOs).

Also in action on the talent-stacked bill Harvey Horn (6-0, 2KOs), Boy Jones Jr (18-3-1, 8KOs), Jake Pettitt (6-0, 1KO), James Branch Jr (5-0, 1KO), Mark Chamberlain (3-0, 2KOs), Umar Sadiq (6-1, 3KOs), Caoimhin Agyako (4-0, 1KO) Mickey Burke Jr (1-0) and Chris Bourke (4-0, 4KOs).

Tickets are on sale via www.ticketmaster.co.uk. Prices £40 – Unreserved Floor, £50 – Unreserved Balcony, £60 – Reserved Floor.

BUATSI TAKES ON FORD AT THE O2

Joshua Buatsi will defend his WBA International Light-Heavyweight title against Ryan Ford on the undercard of the huge Lightweight World title showdown between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Luke Campbell at The O2 in London on August 31, shown live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.

Buatsi (11-0, 9 KOs) was last seen taking out Marco Antonio Periban in four rounds on the blockbuster Joshua vs. Ruiz Jr bill at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 1, marking his big US debut with a ruthless stoppage win in the Big Apple.

The undefeated Croydon star took a step-up in class against the seasoned Periban and was eager to impress, dropping the Mexican and then finishing the fight with a barrage of punches to earn his sixth successive win inside the distance.

Ford, a former opponent of Fedor Chudinov and Avni Yildrim, has never been stopped in 20 career fights and the former MMA fighter, hailing from Edmonton in Canada, picked up the WBC International Silver Light-Heavyweight title in his last fight.

“I’m fighting a tough, durable opponent on August 31 in the form of Ryan Ford,” said Buatsi. “He’s never been stopped in his 20 professional fights and he’s got some good experience against some top names. He’s an ex MMA fighter so he’ll know how to handle himself.

“If I can become the first fighter to stop him then I’ll be very happy. As always, it’s about getting the win at all costs. I’m there to get the job done and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Buatsi vs. Ford is part of a huge night of boxing in the Capital.

At the top of the bill, Olympic Champions Vasiliy Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KOs) and Luke Campbell (20-2, 16 KOs) will clash for the WBC, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine Lightweight World titles, Manchester Heavyweight Hughie Fury (23-2, 13 KOs) takes on former WBA World Champion Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs), WBC Flyweight ruler Charlie Edwards (15-1, 6 KOs) makes the second defence of his crown against Mandatory Challenger Julio Cesar Martinez (14-1, 11 KOs), Joe Cordina (9-0, 7 KOs) defends his British and Commonwealth Lightweight titles against Gavin Gwynne (11-0, 1 KO) in a mouth-watering battle of Wales and Hartlepool star Savannah Marshall (6-0, 4 KOs) makes her highly-anticipated Matchroom Boxing debut.

Stamp Fairtex Has Prepared A Special Surprise For Asha Roka

Two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex is about to embark on her mixed martial arts journey once on August 16 at ONE: DREAMS OF GOLD when she faces Asha “Knockout Queen” Roka at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.

Stamp’s first professional mixed martial arts match was back in July 2018 in Rick Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series. She finished her match with Rashi Shinde from India quickly with a head kick in just 19 seconds. A year since then, she has dominated the aomweight division of ONE Super Series holding titles for both Muay Thai and Kickboxing. The 21-year-old is now in pursuit of a third sport’s title.

“I am very excited that I finally get to fight in an MMA match again,” Stamp said.

“I have prepared myself mentally and physically for this upcoming match. My journey for a third sports title is about to begin and  I am ready to face anyone.”

To help Stamp succeed in mixed martial arts, the team at Fairtex gym taught the Thai native new skills and did research on Roka, who owns a 100% finishing rate.

“Roka has a strong boxing skill and she can knock anyone out,” Stamp said.

“I have been improving my movements in the fight to make sure that she will not land her blows. As for my ground game, it will be fun. I don’t want to reveal too much but I have a special surprise for her and the fans as well.”

Though new to mixed martial arts, Stamp will enter the match confident knowing that there are some similarities to her main disciplines.

“I like to compete in MMA because I find similarities with Muay Thai like clinching,” Stamp concluded.

“I can really do well in a clinch and in this sport, I can stay longer in a clinch and wrestling position where I can dominate. I am really excited about this match and I am doing everything I can to be well prepared for it.”

Raeese Aleem Training Camp Quotes

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 14, 2019) – Prince Ranch Boxing’s undefeated super bantamweight prospect and rising star, Raeese “The Beast” Aleem (14-0, 8 KOs), who is promoted by Kings Promotions, gives his thoughts on his upcoming fight with fellow undefeated foe, Ernesto Delgadillo (11-0, 2 KOs).

Aleem vs. Delgadillo, a 10-round main event bout promoted by ForceTrain Promotions, will take place at the Arabia Shrine Center in Houston, TX, on August 23, 2019. Aleem, who is managed by Greg Hanley of Prince Ranch Boxing, brings excitement to the sport with his eye-catching skill set and fan friendly style.

Here is what Aleem had to say about his upcoming matchup with Delgadillo, training camp, and more.

On his recent training camp:
“I’m having another incredible training camp with my coach, Bones Adams, here at the Prince Ranch boxing facility in Las Vegas. He’s prepared me well for this fight and together we are getting the job done. The sparring I’m getting is the best in the world. I’m feeling great and I’m healthy. Expect a great performance from me on fight night.”

On his upcoming fight with Ernesto Delgadillo:
“This guy is highly skilled and boost an undefeated record, so I know I’m in a step-up fight. These are the type of fights that take a fighter to the next level, and my goal is to make a statement against Delgadillo. This will be my toughest fight and I’m up for the challenge, but make no mistake about it, If I get him hurt, I’m going for the knockout.”

On the state of the super bantamweight division:
“Right now, the 122-pound division is stacked with the best fighters in any weight class in my opinion. Rey Vargas, the WBC champ is an incredible talent, and he’s undefeated for a reason. Daniel Roman and Emanuel Navarrete, both great champions in their own right, haven’t lost a in years. So, I would have to say this division is the best in boxing. Guillermo Rigondeaux is right there as well. I see myself beating all these guys and my time will come, the takeover is happening now.”

On what a win will do for his career:
“A victory against Delgadillo will be good for my career because it’ll be a win against another undefeated fighter. This will be the second undefeated fighter I’ve faced in my career. After I win this fight, I’ll be ready for anyone in the top 10 of any sanctioning organization.”

CLARESSA SHIELDS VS. IVANA HABAZIN FLINT AND DETROIT PRESS CONFERENCES QUOTES

FLINT, Mich. (August 14, 2019) – Undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields and former world champion Ivana Habazin squared-off and exchanged words at a pair of press conferences in Flint and Detroit on Wednesday, as they previewed their battle for the WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship taking place Saturday, October 5 live on SHOWTIME from Dort Federal Event Center in Flint, Mich.

In the main event of SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION (9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT), Shields will aim to make history as the fastest fighter in boxing, male or female, to become a three-division world champion, in her first professional fight in her hometown of Flint.

Wednesday’s press conference in Flint featured Mayor Karen Weaver offering words of encouragement for the city’s hometown hero.

Shields vs. Habazin is promoted by Salita Promotions. Tickets for the live event can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com and at the Dort Center box office.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Wednesday from the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint and the Hotel St. Regis in Detroit:

CLARESSA SHIELDS

“I’m so happy to be here. This moment is a long time coming. I’ve been a pro for nine fights and all I’ve wanted to do is come back home and fight. I haven’t fought here since the amateurs when I was 18.

“To be here now as a pro with two Olympic gold medals, all my belts and my whole team here, it just feels really good. Our city has gone through rough times with the water crisis, but I wanted to show that we’re still fighting people.

“A lot of us here are fighting daily. I’m happy that I can be in the ring doing what I’m doing, but outside of the ring I get to inspire kids. Having a summer camp here this summer really changed me. My knee injury gave me more time to spend with the kids, and that time with them made me stronger.

“I understand that Habazin is here and wants to win, but don’t come here like this is going to be a walk in the park. Christina Hammer thought this was a joke, so I hope Habazin is taking this as seriously as possible.

“I love this challenge, but you will not beat me in front of my family and friends. I’m going to destroy her. Don’t miss this, because this is going to be a knockout.

“I’m so excited about this fight. My last fight was supposed to be the toughest fight of my life, and it was probably the easiest pro fight I’ve had so far, and it was against an accomplished long-reigning champion.

“You can’t talk about women’s boxing without thinking of me. This fight is here in Flint, Michigan because of what I’ve done and what I’ve accomplished. I appreciate Ivana for wanting this challenge, but she’s acting crazy talking about knocking me out.

“She’s going to be in defense mode I think. I’ve seen how she fights. If she thinks she’s going to stand there blow for blow with me, she’s crazy. She has good movement and hand speed, but she has a lot of flaws.

“Being at 154-pounds, I’m going to be stronger and I’m going to be faster. I’ve never had a problem making weight and it won’t be a problem at 154.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Flint for the fight and really embracing the city. Buy tickets because you do not want to miss this fight. I hope she can fight like she can talk so it can be a great one for the fans.”

IVANA HABAZIN

“This is a really big opportunity for me. I was a world champion and I’m looking forward to winning a title in another division.

“Claressa Shields is a spectacular fighter and I have respect for her, but I’m going to bring the fight to her. I didn’t come here just to fight; I came here for victory.

“She is taking on a big challenge. If she says she’s going to make the weight, then I believe her. But I know that it’s going to be tough for her because it’s not her natural division. I hope she makes the weight and that we’ll have a good fight. Fighting at 154-pounds is an advantage for me.

“When I decided to fight at middleweight, I started fighting there because I wanted to fight her. She’s the best fighter out there, and I know that I can beat her. When they told me that she wanted to go down in weight, I knew it was the perfect time.

“It doesn’t matter to me if the fight is in Flint, London, New York or anywhere. The ring is my home and what happens in there is the most important thing. I’m always the underdog and I like to be in that position. I won my title in my opponent’s hometown and I’m going to do it again.

“I’m at the point in my career where it could be my last chance to do something big and change my life. This isn’t just a fight for a title, it’s a fight for my life. When you only have one chance and you’re really hungry, anything is possible.

“It’s going to be tough in her hometown to beat her on points, so I’m coming here to knock her out.

“I’m happy to see that she is healthy because she needs to be ready for what I’m going to bring on October 5.”

JOHN DAVID JACKSON, Shields’ Trainer

“It’s great to be here for this event. This should a good fight between two hungry fighters leaving it all in the ring.

“Habazin has a great trainer in Bashir Ali, so I know that she’s going to be ready for us. Claressa will be ready too, so I just have to make sure everything is set with our game plan.

“Claressa is the biggest star in women’s boxing and we have to be ready for any and all opponents. This is another step towards her becoming the greatest women’s boxer of all time. My job is to make sure she gets there.

“I’m looking forward to a great fight and I can’t wait to see everyone in this arena on fight night. After fight night she’ll be a world champion again, and when the dust settles, she’ll be the best of all time.”

BASHIR ALI, Habazin’s Trainer

“This is a fight with two world champions going after another world title. People take things for granted, and we know that Claressa has accomplished a lot, but there are going to be two strong fighters in the ring.

“You can look back and see so many big upsets throughout the history of the sport and it should teach you not to take anything for granted. These are two fighters who are going to give everything they’ve got.

“I’m not just preparing Habazin for a fight, but I’m preparing her for the mindset behind the fight. In this case, my counterpart John David Jackson is a threat. We know we have to work to win this fight.

“I’m not going to rest easy until we win this belt. I tell Habazin every day that we have to put our best foot forward and give it everything we have.”

FLINT MAYOR KAREN WEAVER

“We are so glad that you are here for this great event. I want to thank Claressa for what she is doing. She’s been saying she wants to have a fight at home, and home wants you to have a fight here.

“This is a big deal for Flint. We’re so excited to have Claressa bring this fight to the city of Flint, because it shows people a different side of Flint. It shows people our toughness and our strength and grit.

“It’s so important to us that Claressa comes home and is involved with the community. Every opportunity that she has, she’s gives back to the community and it means a lot to us.

“I just want Claressa to know how happy we are, how proud you continue to make us, and we know it’s not going to stop. We can’t wait for the fight October 5.”

DMITRIY SALITA, President of Salita Promotions

“Claressa Shields will look to make history again when she fights for a junior middleweight title. We had offers from around the country to host this fight, but Claressa was very focused on bringing a big fight back home to Flint. This is going to be a great night for the city.

“Claressa Shields has accomplished a lot in her life in boxing and as a humanitarian and role model, but she will be achieving a first on October 5, because it will be her first time fighting as a pro in her hometown of Flint. She has a special relationship with Flint and I know that Flint is going to support her as she looks to make more history in her already remarkable career

“Claressa is going to have a tall task against Ivana Habazin, who not only has won a title, but enters this fight on a five bout winning streak and has been focused on this challenge for a long time.

“I want to thank SHOWTIME for their commitment to Claressa’s career and to women’s boxing as a whole. They’re an important partner on this journey that we’re all on with Claressa, and it’s exciting to have a platform like SHOWTIME for her to display her talents on.

“This has all the makings of a tremendous fight and a night that will be remembered for a long time, so you’re going to want to make sure you buy a ticket, or if you can’t be there watch it live on SHOWTIME.”

MARK TAFFET, CEO of Taffet Media & Shields’ Manager

“We couldn’t be more pleased to be here in Flint. We know that this is going to be a great event and we’re proud to have this fight with Claressa Shields here and we look forward to all the fans in Flint, Michigan coming out.

“I’ve worked with many of the biggest and greatest fighters of all time, but I’ve never been more proud of a fighter and more proud to work with a fighter, than I am with Claressa Shields. She isn’t just once in a generation, she’s truly once in a lifetime.

“Before Claressa is done, she won’t just set records, but she will make her mark outside of the ring, like the greatest athletes in history. I believe that she is going to change the game forever.

“Ivana is an accomplished world champion herself, and one of the top fighters in women’s boxing. She’s very proud of her accomplishments in boxing and we couldn’t be more pleased to have a woman of her character as part of this historic fight.”

LIAM SMITH AND JONO CARROLL ADDED TO MEXICO BILL

Liam Smith and Jono Carroll will aim to move into position to get World title shots in the winter when they travel to at the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico, on Saturday August 24, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

On a night headlined by pound-for-pound star Juan Francisco Estrade (39-3 6 KOs) defending his WBC and Ring Magazine Super-Flyweight titles against Dewayne Beamon, Smith (27-2-1 15 KOs) is fresh from his dominant five round KO win over Sam Eggington in March at home in Liverpool, a first fight under the Matchroom Boxing banner and a return to the ring since challenging Mexican Jaime Munguia for his old WBO World Super-Welterweight title in a great fight in Las Vegas last July

‘Beefy’ famously faced modern Mexican great Canelo Alvarez at AT&T Stadium in Dallas in September 2016, and now meets his third Mexican fighter in quick succession this time in Mexico in the shape of Mario Alberto Lozano (33-9 24 KOs) over ten rounds as the 31 year old Liverpudlian targets a return to the elite level.

Carroll (16-1-1 3 KOs) is back in action following his spirited World title challenge in Philadelphia against IBF Super-Featherweight king Tevin Farmer in March. ‘King Kong’ Carroll faces Eleazar Valenzuela (20-11-4 16 KOs) over ten rounds in Mexico as the Irish star hunts down a second World title shot.

“This is a fantastic card and it’s honor to promote in Mexico – a country full of boxing tradition,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “We are expecting more than 10,000 for Gallo Estrada’s homecoming at the atmosphere is going to be very special and I’m pleased to add Liam and Jono to the card.

“Liam would love another crack at Jamie Munguia after their great battle last year and I’m looking for him to win well in Mexico before a big fight before the end of the year. Jono is back raring to go after his brilliant fight with Tevin Farmer in Philly and is gunning for another World title shot in 2020. The card is full of top talent and action – don’t miss it all live on DAZN and Sky Sports.”

Former Uzbek amateur star Shakhram Giyasov (8-0 6 KOs) faces a step-up in his ninth fight over ten rounds against former World champion Darleys Perez (34-4-2 22 KOs), unbeaten Croatian Heavyweight sensation Filip Hrgovic (8-0 6 KOs) aiming for KO number seven in Mexico and defends his WBC International title against an in-form Mexican in the shape of Mario Heredia (16-6-1 13 KOs) and young Mexican talents Alexis Espino (3-0 2 KOs) and Diego Pacheco (4-0 3 KOs) continue their pro journeys on home turf.

“I’ve known Abel for a few years and was very aware of the enormous success he has had training the best fighters in the world,” said Braekhus, a native of Oslo, Norway. “When I approached him about training me he was very interested. We spent a few days working together and it clicked, I’m learning a great deal from him every day.”

Braekhus has previously trained in Santa Monica, CA; Kiev, Ukraine; Berlin, Germany; Spain and Norway. “As soon as I arrived in Big Bear I felt very comfortable, it’s a beautiful part of the world and very conducive to an overall great training experience.”

Said the 2015 Trainer of the Year, Sanchez, “I’ve long admired Cecilia boxing skills, she’s a tremendous fighter, one of the very best female boxers in history. She’s also very willing to learn which is important as we move forward in training and prepare to face the toughest competition.” Among the world champions Sanchez has trained include Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin, Terry Norris, Orlin Norris, Murat Gassiev and at least a dozen others.

Braekhus is holder of the WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO Welterweight World Titles as well as the RING Magazine title belt.  She was previously trained by Johnathon Banks.

                                                —————————————-

On January 5, 2018, the Boxing Writers Association of America named Braekhus the recipient of their first-ever Women’s Fighter of the Year Award (2017). The award was presented by female boxing pioneer Christy Martin at the BWAA’s Annual Awards Dinner on May 11, 2018 In New York City.

On May 5, 2018, Braekhus was specifically chosen by HBO to fight in the first women’s bout telecast on the network over their 45-year history of boxing events. Defeating world ranked contender Kali Reis by unanimous decision at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA, the fight was telecast to an average of 904,000 viewers in the United States, the second highest viewership by the network for boxing in 2018.

As previously proclaimed by Ring Magazine, the Boxing Writers Association of America named Braekhus the Women’s #1 Pound-for-Pound Fighter in the World on June 26, 2018 in the first poll taken by organization for this honor. (The belt presentation by Ring Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Doug Fischer took place on September 13, 2018 in Las Vegas).

Fighting for the first time in Russia, Cecilia Braekhus won a 10-round unanimous decision over junior middleweight world champion Inna Sagaydakovskaya on July 21, 2018 in Moscow. The victory took place in front of over 25,000 spectators at the Olympic Stadium and an international televised audience.

Finishing out her year in Grand Style, Braekhus improved to 35-0 on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with a dominant ten-round decision over world ranked contender Aleksandra Madgziak-Lopes at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA.

Defending all of her undisputed welterweight world titles, (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO and Ring Magazine), the victory capped off a remarkable year filled with tremendous performances inside the ring and a wealth of accolades outside. The main event clash headlined an HBO Boxing telecast and marked the second appearance for Braekhus on the premium cable channel in 2018.

Braekhus has been an undisputed world champion, holding all four major sanctioning body titles since September 2014. She is only one of seven boxers to achieve this historical feat.

Ruiz hesitant for Saudi Arabia rematch with Joshua

Unified Heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz is having reservations about his December 7th rematch with Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I know everyone is talking about the fight and all that,” Ruiz said on Tuesday in a live Instagram chat. “But we got the real news coming soon and the fight is gonna happen soon.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn reiterated that the site will be Diriyah.

“Absolutely it will,” Hearn told ESPN on Wednesday. “We have been in constant contact with Ruiz’s promoter (Tom Brown of TGB Promotions) and team about the rematch. Together we have written to all the governing bodies to confirm the date and location of the bout and the press conference will take place at the beginning of September.”

AJ, he’s scared. Hell yeah, why do you think he’s over there, trying to make the fight in Saudi Arabia,” Ruiz said in his Instagram video. “Look, United States of America wants to… never mind, I can’t say nothing. But the fight is gonna happen soon.”

He was joined by co-main event fighters Ryan “Kingry” Garcia (18-0, 15 KOs) and Avery “A-Plus” Sparrow (10-1, 3 KOs) who will battle in a 10-round lighweight fight. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. and will be streamed live on DAZN.

Below is what today’s participants had to say at the press conference:

JAIME MUNGUIA, WBO Junior Middleweight Champion:

“I feel very happy to be the main event for this Mexican Independence Day fight. It’s going to be a great day for boxing and a great day for Mexico. My desire on September 14th is to demonstrate everything I’ve been learning with my new trainer Erick Morales. I have a great fighter in front of me and we are going to show it in the ring.”

“We know that Allotey is strong, fast and has a lot of knockouts. We will have to be very careful about that. But, I’ll be looking to give a great show, and I’ll look for the knockout on September 14.”

RYAN GARCIA. Lightweight Contender:

“Thank you to everyone who came here. Out of the three fights I was offered I knew Avery was the hardest. He’s a fast and undefeated counter puncher. He’s smart. I wanted to take the hardest fight I got offered. I’m going to bring my all and train like it’s my last, upping my speed and power. I’m going to bring my experience. I’ve seen a lot of fighters out there, and I’m going to bring those wins into the ring as well. Let’s all get ready! Avery is very fast and that’s what I’m going to have to train for. I know that my experience and my training will help me win this fight. I wanted to take on the hardest fight. I’m not trying to prove anything to myself, but to the people who doubt me and the people who don’t think I can handle this fight.”

AVERY SPARROW, Super Featherweight Contender:

“Thank you Golden Boy and all the fans for making this fight happen. Ryan knows I’m a good fighter and this is a big fight, I have a lot of support and people backing me. I’m on a different level than Ryan Garcia, and he hasn’t been to this level yet. I’ve fought fighters with similar experience before, but we will see what happens on September 14th. I hope to see everyone there.”

ERIK MORALES, Hall of Famer and Trainer of Jaime Munguia:

“I’m very grateful to be working with Munguia. He’s a great fighter and a young fighter with a lot of desire to show. It reminds me of when I was younger. He has been improving over our last two months of working together. I assure you that the Munguia you know will be different, but will also deliver the same explosive style he has. We are showing him and guiding him.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy:

“As always we will have a very stacked undercard for this fight. We are excited to host this fight at one of the most exciting venues in California. Dignity Health Sports Park brings out the best in every fighter, so we can’t wait for the fans to experience this fight. This fight will also include a Mexican fiesta featuring bands and activations from Tecate and Orange Crush. The event will be streamed live on DAZN, where we are committed to making the best fights and giving fans and affordable price to watch. Our partners at DAZN have been instrumental in bringing affordable boxing to the masses and on a global scale.”

“We want to make sure that you’re watching the very best. We strongly feel that the fights we have scheduled for this event are even and will give fans their money’s worth. Avery knows what’s at stake and what can transpire by winning this fight. We are truly excited to be showcasing Munguia on an important day for boxing, especially now that he has a new trainer. We strongly feel this new trainer will bring out the best in Munguia. Munguia is willing to jump around into different divisions and every punch he throws is with bad intention. He’s a hard worker and he’s disciplined and dedicated. He’s also a real pleasure outside of the ring.”

FERNANDO BELTRAN, President of Zanfer Promotions:

“First of all, I would like to tell you that it’s an honor to be here in one of the best boxing companies in the world and with Oscar De La Hoya. I also have lots memories on this podium by being here with Erik Morales. Munguia is a special fighter and he will prove that he belongs on the top and fighting the best fighters out there, such as Canelo and Golovkin. I know everyone will enjoy this fight on Mexican Independence Day.”

Guerrero will face Jerry Thomas in a 10-round welterweight bout.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Man Down Promotions, TGB Promotions and Shawn Porter Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

Here is what the fighters had to say Tuesday at the open to the public event from STAPLES Center in Star Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles:

ERROL SPENCE JR.

“This is going to be an amazing event. The co-main event could be the main event on any normal, but this main event is going to be fire. You know it’s man down when I get in the ring and we’re going to show you just that on September 28.

“Shawn is a warrior who always comes to fight and leaves his heart on the table. He always comes ready, but I’m in shape and ready for him too. We’re both always in exciting fights and that’s what we’re going to give the fans.

“You’ve seen my growth over the years to where I’m fighting in bigger and bigger stadiums and headlining the pay-per-views. Now I’m in a unification fight, which is what I’ve wanted for a long time.

“I know Shawn will keep this same energy on fight night. It’s going to be an amazing moment when I get this knockout at STAPLES Center.

“This is what I’ve been waiting for. I had to be on the sidelines and watch Shawn fight Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia, but now I’m in that group. I have the opportunity to fight these top guys and make my name known.

“My whole thing is that I’m looking for the stoppage. I want to make a statement that I’m clearing out the division. I want Manny Pacquiao and all of the top names in this division.”

SHAWN PORTER

“This fight demands this kind of excitement and energy that we have here today. We’re coming to the STAPLES Center for these fans, because they give us the energy that we need.

“Being in this position is amazing and I love it. I’ve always looked forward to opportunities like this and I’m going to bring this same energy into the ring.

“I know what’s about to go down. I know how great and how special this fight is going to be. The closer we get, the more excited I get. We will be prepared for it.

“People don’t understand the level that Errol and I are on. He’s expecting the same thing I’m expecting. We’re both training to go 12 hard rounds and out class each other. It’s all about that one moment, and I know I have what it takes to make that moment all mine. I’m looking forward to it.

“It was only a matter of time until this fight happened. I’ve been patient my entire career and never rushed anything. For me, this fight is happening on time. He’s amongst the elite of this division now and will be after September 28 no matter what.

“When I beat Errol Spence Jr., it doesn’t mean he’s going away. He’s still elite. But I’m going to take care of him September 28 and go after Manny Pacquiao. That’s the plan.”

ANTHONY DIRRELL

“Benavidez is a come forward fighter who throws a lot of punches. You can frustrate him and do what you need to do to counteract that though.

“I’ve had some tough fights and people think that because of those fight, Benavidez is going to beat me. I feel otherwise. I’m the champion. I’m older and smarter and I’m going to go in there and defend my title successfully.

“I’m an experienced fighter. I’ve been doing this for 25 years going back to my amateur days. He’s only 22-years-old and he can’t possible know what I can do. He’s going to find out on September 28.

“I can’t only rely on just my experience. I have to throw punches and go in there to execute my game plan.

“Him going for the knockout definitely excites me. We’re going to give the fans something to see. They’re coming to see a knockout and I’m planning to give it to them.

“Being an underdog is great, it motivates me. I’m fine with it because I can prove everybody wrong at the end of the day. It’s about making history, and you can’t make history if you don’t go in there and take a chance.

“I’m ready. We’ve been wanting this fight for over a year. Now it’s here and we’re both ready to go. I’m looking for the knockout and I know he is too.

“I know that I can take a punch, but we’ll see if he can. He’s been dropped before, as have I. I’ve come back from worse than that though. We’re both warriors and we’re both going to be ready to give the fans something to see.”

DAVID BENAVIDEZ

“Anthony Dirrell is a tough, rugged fighter who has a lot of experience and has been in there with the best. He has height and reach like I do. We’re putting together a good game plan.

“Fighting in Dallas in front of 50,000 people was definitely one of the biggest fights of my life, but I feel like it’s just getting better and better from there.

“It’s a dream come true fighting at STAPLES Center. I’ve always dreamed about fighting here in front of all my people. It’s going to be like I’m fighting at home.

“The winners of this fight are going to be the fans. It’s going to be a great fight and I want to steal the show and put on the fight of the night.

“I have the opportunity to become the youngest two-time super middleweight world champion in history. I’m working hard to do my best to give the fans an action packed fight and accomplish my goals.

“There’s a lot of motivation for me because he has my title. We have respect outside the ring, but none of that will be in the ring. We’re both going for the knockout and it’s going to be a war from round one.

“There are a lot of things that I can do. I can box on the inside and I can brawl. I think Anthony Dirrell is going to want to make it a brawl and stay in there with me. That’s how he fought his last fight and we know there’s a lot we can do if he brings that style.”

MARIO BARRIOS

“Fighting on a card like this is a dream come true. This will be my third fight at STAPLES Center and I always get a lot of love in Los Angeles. It’s always an exciting experience and I’m looking forward to it again.

“I’m fighting for a title and I’m not going home to San Antonio without it. I know that he’s going to bring everything he’s got. This will be my toughest opposition by far, but that won’t change anything on September 28.”

BATYR AKHMEDOV

“This a great opportunity for me to be part of such a momentous card. I’m grateful to my whole team for getting me this opportunity and I’m training to take full advantage.

“On September 28, it’s going to be a great fight. I’m going to start writing my history in this fight by winning this title.”

JOSESITO LOPEZ

“I’m excited to be a part of this great card. It’s been seven years since I had that great showing at STAPLES Center against Victor Ortiz, and it’s a great feeling to be back.

“I’m going to put on a show, just like I did my last time fighting at STAPLES Center. I’m going to deliver another great performance.

“Expect fireworks. We’re going to start this pay-per-view off right and get things ready for the rest of this card. It’s going to be a night you don’t want to miss.”

JOHN MOLINA JR.

“Here we go again. It’s going to be another exciting fight. This is a long time coming for the both of us. We both have a never say die attitude and that’s what you’re going to get on fight night.

“Make sure you’re there on September 28, because you’re going to enjoy this fight. We’re both going to leave it all in the ring, just like everyone expects us to.”

ROBERT GUERRERO

“I’m excited to be back on this stage again. We have two great champions in the main event and it makes for an exciting night from top to bottom.

“I just wanted to say something about the shooting incidents that have happened in our country. One of the incidents happened in my hometown in Gilroy, California, so a portion of my purse is going to go to the victims of that tragedy.”

JOEY SPENCER

“I’m really happy and honored to be a part of this card with all of these great champions. I can’t wait to go out there and put on a show.

“It’s amazing just to be in the building, let alone to be fighting on a card like this. I’m really excited to give all the fans a great show.”

MURPHYS BOXING RETURNS TO UFC FIGHT PASS® ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 AT MGM SPRINGFIELD

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Murphys Boxing is proud to announce their return to UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports, on Saturday, August 17th, for a special outdoor matinee event live from MGM Springfield. The main card will stream live and exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS beginning at 4 P.M. ET / 1 P.M. PT.

In the main event, NABA Light Heavyweight ChampionCharles Foster (18-0, 9 KOs) will defend his title for the fourth time in a 10-round bout against Russian power puncher Denis Grachev (19-7-1, 10 KOs).

Foster, who hails from nearby New Haven, Connecticut is ranked #8 in the world bythe WBA and is coming off an impressive stoppage victory over Chicago’s once-beaten Mike Jiminez this past March.

Grachev, known as ‘Drago’s Son’, is currently on a 3-fight win streak in 2019, and an upset win over Foster would immediately land the Russian back into the world rankings.

“I’m excited to be in the main event on UFC FIGHT PASS,” explains Foster, the confident southpaw who goes by the nickname, ‘The Truth.’ “I truly feel I am ready to take on anyone in the Top 10. I want to be in position for a shot at a world title next year. This Saturday, I intend to make a statement to the rest of the light heavyweight division by defending my title and stopping Grachev.”

In the 10-round co-main event, one of Murphys Boxing’s most popular fighters, Irish heavyweight sensation Niall Kennedy (13-0-1, 8 KOs), will face one of his toughest tests to date, as he will take on former U.S. Olympic Boxer Devin Vargas (20-5, 8 KOs) in a crossroads battle that will put the winner in line for a major opportunity in the red-hot division.

Kennedy, who also serves as a police officer in his hometown of Gorey, Ireland, has amassed a sizable Massachusetts based following having fought virtually all of his professional fights in New England and winning the state’s heavyweight title in the process.

“I’m excited to be fighting at MGM Springfield live on UFC FIGHT PASS. It’s my first time in that area [of Massachusetts] and what an event to be on, getting to share the bill with the talented Charles Foster,” says the humble heavyweight.

“My opponent is a former Olympian who has mixed with the top table and who I am sure will bring the best out of me. Training is going exceptionally well. I’m going to put every ounce of blood and sweat into making my little boy, MJ, and my wife proud. This is the year where I want to get myself in the top 20 and in massive fights. For that to happen, I need to perform this Saturday.”

“Our first fight at MGM Springfield in May, which was also our UFC FIGHT PASS debut, was an amazing night and a total success,” explains Ken Casey, founder of Murphys Boxing. “For our return to MGM Springfield and UFC FIGHT PASS, we wanted to take it to another level. We think having a top 10 world-ranked fighter like Charles Foster make a title defense in his backyard, adding Niall Kennedy in a high stakes heavyweight showdown, and then making it an outdoor matinee show, accomplishes that goal. We can’t wait to be back on UFC FIGHT PASS this weekend.”

Murphys Boxing presents Foster vs. Grachev live and exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS this Saturday, August 17th at MGM Springfield in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Doors open at 1 p.m. and the first bout starts at 2 p.m. Tickets on sale now at www.murhpysboxing.com. The undercard will stream live on Facebook.com/DropKickMurphys.

The main card will exclusively stream on UFC FIGHT PASS at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT.

The 90-minute prelims show begins at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT and will serve as the lead-in to the highly anticipated FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View headlined by the welterweight title unification showdown between IBF champion Errol Spence Jr. and WBC champion Shawn Porter. WBC Super Middleweight Champion Anthony Dirrell defends his title against undefeated former champion David Benavídez in the co-feature, while unbeatens clash when Mario Barrios takes on Batyr Akhmedov for the WBA Super Lightweight title and hard-hitting veteran sluggers Josesito López and John Molina, Jr. meet in a 10-round welterweight bout in pay-per-view action beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event are on sale now and can be purchased AXS.com.

“An already great card just got better,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Robert Guerrero and Joey Spencer will provide the perfect lead in to the Pay-Per-View event. Guerrero has one of the most distinguished careers in boxing and he has never been in a bad match. Spencer is at the beginning of a career that promises to be spectacular. Combined with the other fights on the pay per view telecast, this is going to be an all-action show.”

Guerrero (35-6-1, 20 KOs) has won world titles at featherweight and super featherweight, and has fought a stacked lineup of elite fighters during a superb career. The 35-year-old Guerrero is from Gilroy, California and is coming off a stoppage victory over Hevinson Herrera on March 9 after previously scoring a TKO win in December 2018.

“It feels great to be back in the ring, especially fighting in front of my fans at STAPLES Center,” said Guerrero. “I had a couple tune up fights and now I’m stepping up in competition. My boxing skills will be on display and I’m ready to take that next step to a big fight. I’m in great shape and I’m ready to let my hands go. Lastly, I’m dedicating this fight to the victims of the Gilroy mass shooting and I’ll be donating a portion of my purse to their fund.”

Thomas (14-1-1, 8 KOs) has won three straight bouts since losing the first match of his career against Danny O’Connor in 2016. Thomas of St. Marys, Kansas is coming off a TKO victory over Brad Robison in his most recent fight last May 19.

The 19-year-old Spencer (8-0, 6 KOs) turned pro last year after an impressive amateur career and scored knockouts in his first six fights. Fighting out of Linden, Michigan, Spencer continued his unbeaten string in his most recent match when he scored a hard-fought unanimous decision over Akeem Black in June on FOX.

“It was really exciting to find out that I would be on a card of this magnitude,” said Spencer. “I just want to keep becoming a better pro each time I get in the ring. This experience is a big part of it. I’m working crazy hard each day to improve my stamina and pace and get to my maximum level. I’m looking forward to showing people what I can do, one fight at a time.”

BLOCKBUSTER WELTERWEIGHT TITLE UNIFICATION HEADLINES AMAZING NIGHT OF BOXING

LOS ANGELES (August 13, 2019) – An incredible night of boxing just got even more spectacular as unbeaten rising star Mario “El Azteca” Barrios will meet fellow unbeaten Batyr Akhmedov for the WBA Super Lightweight Title and rugged veteran Josesito López battles battle-hardened brawler John Molina Jr. in a 10-round welterweight attraction as part of undercard action on the FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View Saturday, September 28 from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

The action begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and will be in support of the highly anticipated welterweight title unification match between IBF Champion Errol Spence, Jr. and WBC Champion Shawn Porter. WBC Super Middleweight Champion Anthony Dirrell will defend his title against unbeaten former champion David Benavídez in the co-feature.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Man Down Promotions, TGB Promotions and Shawn Porter Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

“With the addition of Barrios vs. Akhmedov and López vs. Molina, Jr., an already action-packed card got an extra jolt of excitement,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Barrios and Akhmedov is a tantalizing matchup of two rising, unbeaten fighters going toe-to-toe for their first title, while Lopez and Molina are both known for engaging in dramatic wars. There are going to be non-stop fists flying leading up to the blockbuster world title unification in the main event.”

Fighting for his first world championship is a major step forward for Barrios (24-0, 16 KOs), who began his career as a super bantamweight in 2013 at age 18. Representing his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, and now training with Virgil Hunter in the Bay Area, Barrios has knocked out all eight of his opponents since making the move to 140-pounds. The 24-year-old most recently scored a knockout victory over Juan Jose Velasco in May on FOX.

“This is the fight that will solidify me as one of the top super lightweights in the world,” said Barrios. “Batyr Akhmedov was one of the top amateurs in the world and has fought some really good fighters in the pros. He’s ranked No. 3 in the WBA and I must beat him to accomplish my goal of winning a world title. I live for these moments and the world will see my talent. I’m going to bring victory home to all of Mexico and my Mexican-American fans in the States.”

Born in Uzbekistan and residing in Russia, Akhmedov (7-0, 6 KOs) represented Turkey at the 2016 Olympic games. The 28-year-old turned pro in 2017 and is unbeaten with knockouts in all but one of his first seven fights. He made his U.S. debut last April, before stopping Ismael Barroso in August, prior to his two most recent triumphs this year.

“I am the eighth child in my family and we had a very difficult and poor upbringing so I know what it means to persevere during hard times,” said Akhmedov. “I only started boxing when I was 18 years old. I spent about four hours a day on the road to get to and from the gym. I really love this sport. I know what it means when people tell me that I won’t be able to achieve something. At 20 years old I became a national champion. At 22 I was on the Olympic team. I was successful in many of the tournaments that I took part in. I always tried to find a way to victory. I know that it will not be easy for me on September 28, but I will find a way to become a world champion.”

López (36-8, 19 KOs) is coming off a hard-fought majority decision loss to Keith Thurman in January on FOX, in a fight that saw him nearly stop Thurman before narrowly dropping the close and exciting fight. The Riverside, California-native has gone toe-to-toe with numerous top fighters and has regularly engaged in memorable action fights throughout his career.

“It’s going to be an all-action fight,” said López. “Molina is always in good action fights. He brings power to the table. California and the world will see that on September 28. I’m excited to be back in the ring on a big card. I’ve been waiting to fight in California again so I’m definitely thrilled about being at STAPLES Center. I’ve been in the gym because I knew this was coming. I’m definitely ready for this.”

Molina (30-8, 24 KOs) most recently engaged in an action-packed, close unanimous decision loss to Omar Figueroa Jr. on FOX in February. A tough veteran brawler, Molina, of West Covina, California, has been in the ring with some of the top boxers at lightweight, junior welterweight and welterweight. Over his 13-year career he’s been involved in multiple Fight of the Year contenders while picking up victories over Ruslan Provodnikov, Mickey Bey, Hank Lundy and Ivan Redkach.

“This is just another day in the office for me,” said Molina. “This is an all-action, California brawl, and the fans are definitely going to get their money’s worth from this one. I’m really excited to be fighting on this big pay-per-view card with so many great electrifying boxers.”

Encore: Lineal Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury Returns to Las Vegas September 14 Against Otto Wallin Live on ESPN+

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 13, 2019) — The Las Vegas Strip’s most electrifying act is returning for a repeat engagement. Less than three months since his second-round destruction of Tom Schwarz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Tyson Fury, a.k.a. “The Gypsy King,” will defend his lineal heavyweight championship versus the undefeated Otto Wallin Saturday, Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

This will be the fifth defense of the lineal crown for Fury, who upset future Hall of Famer Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 to claim heavyweight supremacy.

Fury-Wallin will stream live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+, the leading multi-sport streaming service, with the main event to begin at 11:00 pm ET (undercards beginning at 7:30 pm ET). ESPN+ is available via the ESPN App on mobile and connected devices, on ESPN.com and ESPNplus.com.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions and Salita Promotions, tickets for Fury vs. Wallin start at $105 and go on sale Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets are also available for purchase online at www.axs.com or by phone at 888-929-7849.

“Tyson Fury electrified Las Vegas last time he fought, and he is set to do it again against a tough kid in Otto Wallin,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Tyson knows what’s at stake, and I expect him to have another masterful performance. He is the best heavyweight in the world and is only beginning to show everyone what he’s capable of.”

“I am pleased to be back in Las Vegas. I loved my time there in my last fight and I am going to put on a show at the T-Mobile Arena,” Fury said. “Otto Wallin is a world-ranked fighter and is tall, something we want with the Deontay Wilder rematch around the corner. He is also a southpaw, which will bring its own obstacles, but I will be fully focused to get this job done because the rematch needs to happen.”

“I’m delighted that Tyson is boxing in Las Vegas again after his previous success,” Frank Warren said. “It is another undefeated boxer he is facing and a contest where a victory will set up the Deontay Wilder rematch. Otto Wallin knows this is his big chance, and Tyson will not be underestimating him.”

“This is the type of fight I’ve been waiting for since I was a kid and my father started showing me some boxing moves in our kitchen,” Wallin said. “I’ve made a lot of sacrifices to get to this point and I’m very happy it’s starting to pay off. I want to thank my team and my supporters for making this happen.

“I know I’m an underdog in this fight, but I’m ready for this opportunity and I’m going to grab it with both hands. Anybody can get beat and especially in the heavyweight division. I like the fact that I have everything to gain and Tyson has everything to lose.”

“Otto Wallin is an example of what happens when you combine dreams and hard work,” said Dmitriy Salita, Wallin’s promoter. “He grew up in a small town in Sweden, worked hard and dreamed big! He plans to follow in the footsteps of countryman Ingemar Johansson and score the big win against lineal world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury. It will be an exciting fight from the opening bell, which I believe will end in a historic upset in Las Vegas.”

“Tyson Fury is arguably the top heavyweight and most entertaining fighter in the world,” said Russell Wolff, executive vice president and general manager, ESPN+. “He put on a show the last time he was on ESPN+ and we look forward to another with this fight. With 29 boxing world title fights in under 18 months, and several more on the horizon, ESPN+ is a home for fight fans and the top sports streaming platform in the US.”

Richard Sturm, President of Las Vegas Live Entertainment & Sports, said, “We look forward to hosting this international championship fight on September 14 at T-Mobile Arena with two of the sport’s top heavyweights.  Additionally, it will be an exciting weekend for the entire city as Las Vegas hosts multiple events celebrating Mexican Independence Weekend.”

Fury (28-0-1 20 KOs) is in the midst of one of sport’s most remarkable comebacks, a Hollywood script turned reality that has seen him battle back from substance abuse and mental health issues to reclaim his spot atop the sport. After nearly three years out of the ring following the Klitschko triumph, Fury returned in June 2018 and won a pair of fights before his controversial draw versus WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Six months after the Wilder fight, he made short work of Schwarz (24-0 at the time) and will once again fight an undefeated challenger.

Wallin (20-0, 1 NC, 13 KOs), from Sundsvall, Sweden, is looking to become the second Swedish heavyweight champion, as Ingemar Johansson held the crown from 1959-1960. Wallin, 28, made his United States debut in April 2019, a no-contest against Nick Kisner after Kisner suffered a cut due to an accidental headbutt in the opening round. A six-year pro, Wallin defeated Adrian Granat (15-1 at the time) by 12-round unanimous decision in 2018 to capture the European Union heavyweight crown.

THANDERZ TARGETS WAHLSTROM WORLD TITLE FIGHT

Katharina Thanderz (11-0, 2 KOs) has her sights set on a World title challenge as she looks to claim her twelfth professional victory against Monica Gentili (6-10, 1 KO) on Saturday at the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Thanderz returns to the ring following an impressive points win over Rachel Ball in Arendal in March, and will be fighting for the first time since signing a long-term contract with European powerhouse promoter Team Sauerland.

“I believe I’m ready for a World title challenge,” said Thanderz ahead of her crunch clash with the tough Italian. “I have been working with that goal in my mind for many years. I’ve put in the hard work every single day to be at my best, and I definitely think I have what it takes to become a World Champion.

“Going into this fight, it gives me a lot of extra motivation knowing that a World title fight is so close. I mean, I love boxing, and I always work with a lot of passion and give my all in every training session, but it definitely gives me an extra push to know that I’m so close to achieving my goal.”

To achieve her goal, Thanderz must first dethrone one of the reigning 130lb rulers, and has WBC titleholder Eva Wahlstrom at the top of her wish list.

“Out of all the champions in my weight division, I would love to meet Eva Wahlstrom,” said Thanderz. “She’s from Finland and I’m from Norway, and it would be a great fight that I’m sure the Scandinavian public would love.

“I really admire her as a boxer. She has a very nice boxing style to watch, and is very technical and fast. She might not be the strongest or hardest hitting boxer, but she’s a hard worker, and I have huge respect for that. I think she has the whole package and is a good role model for other female boxers.

“With that said, I would be willing to fight any of the World Champions. My ambition is to meet the best female boxers in the world, and I wouldn’t have a problem going up in weight in the future either, but for now, all my focus is on beating Monica Gentili because she is not a fighter you can overlook.

“My preparations have gone well. I’ve been training twice a day in extreme heat so I’m in great condition and I’m anxious to step into the ring again.”

Thanderz faces Gentili on the undercard of Vincent Feigenbutz’s IBO International Super Middleweight title showdown with Cesar Nunez, which also features rising Norwegian star Hadi Srour against Russia’s Evgenii Vazem.

All the action from the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle is available to watch live on Viasport + and Viaplay in Norway, and Sport1 in Germany. Tickets are available online via www.eventim.de or by calling +49 01806-570440

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS SIGNS WITH MATCHROOM BOXING

Undefeated WBO Super-Middleweight World Champion Billy Joe Saunders has signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, with his next fight to be announced next week.

Saunders (28-0, 13 KOs) became a two-weight World Champion with a shutout points win over Shefat Isufi in Stevenage earlier this year, outclassing his Serbian opponent over 12 rounds to land the WBO 168lbs title.

The Hatfield southpaw’s first World title came against Irish fight legend Andy Lee at Manchester Arena in December 2015 when he floored the former Champion twice in the third round on route to a majority decision to claim the WBO Middleweight crown.

Successful defences followed against Artur Akavov, Willie Monroe Jr and, most notably, a career-best performance against David Lemieux on away soil in Canada where the 29-year-old star dismantled former IBF ruler Lemieux over 12 masterful rounds.

A former Southern Area, Commonwealth, British, WBO International and European Champion at Middleweight, Saunders is confident that his move to Matchroom Boxing will secure megafighs with new stablemates Callum Smith and Demetrius Andrade, as well as DAZN fighters Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

“This move is going to benefit me massively,” said Saunders. “Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing can put me right out on the branch for those big fights. I’m on Golovkin and Canelo’s turf. I’ve made this move to make them fights because I’m sick of hearing their bullsh*t excuses. Those fights make financial sense and they make sense because we’re on the same network.

“I will go where the big fights are and I can fluctuate between Middle and Super-Middle. If the big fights are at Middleweight then I’ll have them at Middle. If they’re at Super-Middleweight then I’ll have them at Super. I’m a World Champion at Super-Middle so if anyone wants to come and try to win a belt then I’ve got one of the most recognised belts out there and I’m open to big offers.

“I’m going to bring a lot of excitement to Sky Sports and DAZN. I’m a good talker but I can also walk the walk. Matchroom are going to give me more publicity and more exposure for these big fights and that’s what I need. Once people see me and they see what I’m about they’ll want to see me in those big fights.

“I can’t wait to be involved in those big nights that I’ve seen Matchroom put on over the years. If that means fighting at 168lbs or 8lbs lighter then that’s no problem. I’m ready to go and I’m hoping to be out at the end of October or early November.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “Welcome to the big league Billy Joe! This is a huge signing for us and the perfect place for Billy to be. Everyone in boxing knows how good Billy is and now he is going to get the chance to prove it against the elite.

“He holds a World title at 168 but can also make 160 comfortably and when you look at the fighters we work with across our platforms, this was an obvious link up. Fighters need to be motivated with regular dates and solid deliverable plans – now Billy finally has that you will see him shine on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Adam Smith, Head of Sky Sports Boxing, said, “I’m absolutely delighted that Billy Joe Saunders has been announced as Eddie Hearn’s latest signing for Matchroom Boxing.

“Billy Joe is a huge talent, with mouthwatering fights available at Middleweight and Super-Middleweight, including Canelo, GGG, Demetrius Andrade, Danny Jacobs and that big domestic clash with Callum Smith.

“We’re very excited to have him on Sky Sports and look forward to seeing Billy Joe involved in some massive fights in the near future.”

TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR HANEY VS. ABDULLAEV

ickets for the WBC World Lightweight title final eliminator clash between American sensation Devin Haney and Russian dangerman Zaur Abdellaev on Friday September 13 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
TICKETS START AT JUST $30 (PLUS FEES) AND ARE AVAILABLE FROM TICKETMASTER HERE
Haney (22-0 14 KOs) made an electrifying debut with Matchroom Boxing USA and DAZN in May, destroying Antonio Moran with a KO of the year contender in the seventh round of their clash in Maryland. The 20 year old fights in the Big Apple for the first time in his career and the Las Vegas native, ranked #2 with the WBC, hits Manhattan for his biggest fight yet in association with Devin Haney Promotions and Titov Boxing.

Abdullaev (11-0 7 KOs) is ranked #3 with the WBC having landed the Silver Lightweight strap in just his ninth pro outing in April 2018, and the highly rated and dangerous Russian registered his 11th pro win and seventh inside the distance in February, stopping Humberto Martinez in Ekaterinburg, and now fights outside his homeland for the first time in his career.

The WBC crown will be in the hands of either Vasiliy Lomachenko or Luke Campbell MBE when the clash at The O2 in London on August 31, with Haney and Abdullaev keenly observing that clash from their training camps become locking horns on September 13.

WBA and IBF World Super-Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman leads a stacked undercard in a mouth-watering chief-support bout as he takes on lethal WBA mandatory challenger Murodjon Akhmadaliev. Roman (27-2-1 10 KOs) unified his WBA crown with the IBF strap of Irishman TJ Doheny in a fight of the year contender at home in Los Angeles in April, a fifth World title win on the bounce a fourth inside 14 months for the 29 year old.

Roman’s fifth defense of his WBA crown pits him against dangerous Uzbek talent Akhmadaliev (6-0 5 KOs) – the highly decorated amateur has looked fearsome in ending five of his six pro outings to date inside the distance, with the 25 year old’s last win coming on the same LA bill as Roman’s dust-up with Doheny. Roman vs. Akhmadaliev is brought to you in association with Thompson Boxing and World of Boxing.

There’s more World title action on the bill as record-breaking seven-weight World champion Amanda Serrano challenges WBO World Featherweight champion Heather Hardy in an all-Brooklyn affair, brought to you by DiBella Entertainment in association with Matchroom Boxing USA.

Serrano (36-1-1 27 KOs) conquered her seventh weight class at the Hulu Theater in title in January when the Puerto Rican destroyed Eva Voraberger inside the opening round to claim the vacant WBO Super-Flyweight title.

Serrano held the WBO Featherweight strap in 2016 before vacating it then her sister Cindy picked it up later that year. Hardy (22-0 4 KOs) was next in line to win the vacant title in October in a rematch against Shelley Vincent in the Hulu Theater. Hardy put boxing on hold to return to MMA in June with an outing at Bellator 222 at Madison Square Garden but returns to boxing to go head-to-head with her fellow Brooklynite.

The Heavyweight landscape remains a hot one and there’s a great 50-50 clash on the card as Michael Hunter challenges Sergey Kuzmin for the WBA Intercontinental title. Hunter (17-1 12 KOs) holds the International strap with the WBA having KO’d Alexander Ustinov in Monte Carlo in November and defended that with a second round KO of Fabio Maldonado in Maryland in May. The 31 year old is rapidly rising in the rankings and can take a huge leap towards World title action with a win but faces a crunch challenge in the form of Kuzmin (15-0 11 KOs).

The unbeaten Russian puts the strap he won at Wembley Stadium in London in September against David Price and first saw off LaRon Mitchell and then Joey Dawejko in successful Stateside defenses. With Kuzmin ranked #5 and Hunter #8 with the WBA, the victor in New York will be knocking on the door for a title shot, raising the stakes in this pick’em match-up, in association with World of Boxing.

Munguia is a 22-year-old world champion of Tijuana, Mexico who catapulted to the highest levels of the 154-pound division by knocking out Sadam “World Kid” Ali in May to capture the WBO Junior Middleweight World Title. Since then, Munguia has defended his title against the likes of Liam “Beefy” Smith, Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook, Takeshi Inoue and Dennis Hogan. Munguia will now represent his country on the most important date for Mexican boxing.

“I feel very happy for the opportunity of headlining a card on Sept. 14,” said Jaime Munguia. “That’s the best date for boxing in the entire year. It’s a great date for Mexico because that’s when we celebrate Mexican Independence Day. I’m proud and honored to be representing Mexico in the festivals for my country. I’ll give my best and I’ll try to deliver a great fight for all the people and for those who will see us.”

Allotey is a 28-year-old native of Accra, Ghana who debuted as a professional in 2006 when he was only 16 years old. Though suffering losses against Golden Boy’s Patrick Teixeira and standout contender Kanat Islam, Allotey is coming off six victories in a row.

“I respect Munguia. He is a great fighter,” said Patrick Allotey. “But I’m an African warrior, so you know I’ll be coming to cause a big surprise.”

“I’m very excited for Jaime Munguia’s next fight date as he’ll be headlining on Sept. 14, which is an important date for Mexico,” said Fernando Beltran, President of Zanfer Promotions. “I am very proud because our representative will fight on the most important date for Mexicans.

In the co-main event, rising sensation Ryan Garcia (18-0, 15 KOs) of Victorville, Calif. will take on Avery “A Plus” Sparrow (10-1, 3 KOs) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in a 10-round lightweight fight.

“Sparrow is basically an undefeated fighter with a good amateur background,” Ryan Garcia. “People in boxing that know boxing will know this isn’t an easy fight. It will not be overlooked.”

“I’m thankful to Golden Boy and Russell Peltz for the opportunity,” said Avery Sparrow. “Ryan Garcia has yet to be tested, and it’s a big step up for him. It’s not much of a step up in opposition for me. It’s his biggest test, not mine. I’m good fighting at 130, but nobody wants to fight me there, so I’m moving up to 135. I look forward to putting on a great show.”

“It’s a difficult fight for Sparrow,” said Russell Peltz. “Once again he has to move up in weight from 130 to 135. None of the 130-pounders want to fight him. However, I am not a big believer that weight difference will determine the outcome. The outcome will be determined by who is the better fighter so long as the judges are fair, and I am sure they will be. Garcia has a prettier record, but Sparrow can more than handle himself.”

Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano (32-7-1, 22 KOs) of Tlalnepantla, Mexico will defend his WBC International Silver Super Lightweight Title in a 12-round fight against Michael “The Artist” Perez (25-3-2, 11 KOs) of Newark, New Jersey. Cano will return from his upset victory over Jorge “El Niño de Oro” Linares, and he will look to fight for a world title at 140 pounds if successful against Perez.

Filipino rising star “Ruthless” Romero Duno (20-1, 15 KOs) will defend his NABO Lightweight Title in a 10-round fight.

Armenian contender Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (17-3, 14 KOs) will return in a 10-round super bantamweight clash.

Alejandro “Pin Pon” Reyes of Los Angeles, Calif. will make his professional debut in a four-round lightweight fight against Jorge Padron (3-4, 3 KOs) of Sonora, Mexico.

Additional undercard information will be announced shortly.

Munguia vs. Allotey is a 12-round fight for the WBO Junior Middleweight Championship presented by Golden Boy in association with Zanfer Promotions. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” Hennessy “Never Stop. Never Settle,” and Orange Crush. The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park and will be streamed live on DAZN.

STATEMENT FROM REGIS PROGRAIS AND DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT REGARDING PROGRAIS’ WITHDRAWAL FROM THE WORLD BOXING SUPER SERIES

Today in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Regis Prograis and DiBella Entertainment, Inc. filed for a declaratory judgment that Comosa AG, the owner of the World Boxing Super Series, has breached its contractual obligations to Prograis and DBE. Prograis and DBE further informed Comosa that Prograis is withdrawing from the WBSS, effective immediately.

Today’s action is the result of a long and repeated pattern of behavior by Comosa that includes late payments, scheduling delays, bad faith representations, missed deadlines, and broken promises. A recitation of this behavior can be found in the Complaint filed today.

There is no one more disappointed by this turn of events than Regis Prograis, who has expressed his desire to unify the super lightweight division on a number of occasions. Comosa was provided every opportunity to see the WBSS to conclusion but it failed at every turn to meet its obligations to the contracted fighters. This action was commenced only after Prograis and DBE determined, as a result of Comosa’s conduct, that his participation in this venture was no longer possible.

DBE and Prograis will not be making any further comment beyond the content of this statement and the Complaint.

Before and After: The Incredible Rebirth of Mikey ‘Baby Face’ Faragon

The incredible rebirth of Albany, New York’s Mikey “Baby Face” Faragon (19-1, 9 KOs) is complete and he will return to action in a six-rounder tonight, Friday, August 9, at a GCP and Rapacz Boxing show at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, Minnesota against Missouri’s Demetrius Wilson.

Faragon was once a super lightweight prospect touted as one of the most promising young fighters to ever come out of the Capital Region, but a severe foot injury forced him out of boxing five years ago.

During his extended recovery, which included several painful surgeries, 32-year-old Faragon fell into depression and unhealthy living and gained a great deal of weight.

With his mobility now restored, Faragon challenged himself to get back in shape and said he would fight again if he could. Pictured above, right, Faragon is back in fighting shape and, against Wilson, will be looking to gauge how much of that immense potential he still has.

DUBOIS: THE BEST IS YET TO COME

DANIEL DUBOIS is promising ‘another devastating performance’ when he takes to the ring at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday September 27 with the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title on the line.

Tickets went on sale today (Fri Aug 9) for the clash between Dubois and unbeaten Ebenezer Tetteh, subject to the Ghanaian winning a warm-up this weekend with WBO world flyweight champion Nicola Adams also featuring on the bill, live on BT Sport.

Dubois enters into his 13th professional fight against Tetteh – competing for his seventh title — and comes into the fight off the back of his spectacular demolition of domestic rival Nathan Gorman last time out when he claimed the British title

Defeating Gorman, Dubois believes, has increased his stock ahead of his next title assignment and his slightly longer-term aim of breaking into the elite band of heavyweights.

“It is like getting back to the drawing board now with this next fight and getting ready for this next date and seeing what’s what,” considered the 21-year-old.

“The last fight boosted my profile and a lot of people tuned in. It was special in that regard, with a lot of people watching with their own opinions on who would win. It builds exposure for me and grows my profile, so I’m glad I got that one done.

“The best is still yet to come and I’ve a whole lot more to give.

“I’m not too far away from the big boys and breaking into that league. I am very focused right now, determined to push on and not let anything hold me back.

“Whoever I’ve got to beat, I will beat,” explained Dubois by way of a mission statement before adding his thoughts on forthcoming opponent Tetteh, who holds a record of 19-0 with 16 of the wins coming via KO.

“It is going to be interesting and I am confident I will come out with the victory. I am at the stage where I am only getting better and in this fight I might show something a little different that boxing fans haven’t seen before.

“This is the fight business and we are in the fighting game, so when the guy has got two gloves on and is swinging with all his might, I think there is enough danger in that already.

“It is obviously a prestigious title on the line so I have got to approach it seriously because he will be trying his best. I’ve got to make myself ready.

“It is going to be buzzing again and I am sure it is going to be an amazing night of boxing. I am looking forward to putting on a show at the Royal Albert Hall.

“It is going to be another devastating performance from me.”

Beside’s Dubois and a world title clash involving Adams the show will also feature WBO European super-featherweight champion Archie Sharp, middleweight banger Denzel Bentley, heavyweight Jonathan Palata, lightweight Mohammad Bilal Ali and precocious bantamweight talent Dennis McCann.

Exciting prospects Lewis Edmundson, Eithan James and Sam Noakes all make their professional debuts

Tickets for the September 27 bill at the Royal Albert Hall are available to purchase from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and www.royalalberthall.com. Prices £40, £50, £75, £100, £150 Ringside.

FIORDIGIGLIO AND EGGINGTON CLASH IN FLORENCE

Orlando Fiordigiglio will make the first defence of his IBF International Super-Welterweight title against Sam Eggington on a Matchroom Boxing Italy and Opi Since 82 promoted show at the Tuscany Hall in Florence on Thursday September 19, shown live on DAZN.

Arezzo’s Fiordigiglio (31-2, 13 KOs) picked up the IBF ranking title with a split decision win over Stephen Danyo in April, outpointing the former WBO European Champion over ten rounds to earn the fifth title of his pro career.

Birmingham’s Eggington (26-6, 15 KOs), a former European Welterweight Champion, was stopped by former Super-Welterweight World Champion Liam Smith at The M&S Bank Arena Liverpool in March but has since returned to winning ways with victories over Jordan Grannum and Lewis van Poetsch.

Correzzola’s Devis ‘Boom Boom’ Bosheiro (47-6-2, 12 KOs), a former European Super-Featherweight Champion, clashes with Barcelona’s Ivan Tomas (9-0-1, 3 KOs) for the vacant IBF International Super-Featherweight title over ten rounds.

Unbeaten Bergamo Welterweight talent Dario Morello (15-0, 2 KOs) defends his WBO Global Welterweight title for the first time against Bracknell’s Luther Clay (11-1, 5 KOs) following on from his win over Ahmed El Hamwi in Milan.

Elsewhere on the card, there’s action for Cascina Flyweight Mohammed Obbadi (19-1, 13 KOs), Avellino Featherweight World title challenger Carmine Tommasone (19-1, 5 KOs) and undefeated Roma Super-Lightweight Sebastian Mendizabal (3-0).

Ross Garritty of Matchroom Boxing Italy said: “It’s a pleasure to be returning to the venue that saw the launch of the historic joint venture between Matchroom Boxing Italy, OPI Since 82 and DAZN back in November 2018. Our first five events in Florence, Milan and Rome have been overwhelmingly successful and Florence fight fans are in store for another exciting night of title action at Tuscany Hall on September 19.”

Christian Cherchi of OPI Since 82 said: “It is always nice to return to Florence after the success of our first events in the city. We have an explosive main event in Orlando Fiordigiglio vs. Sam Eggington for the IBF International Super-Welterweight title and exciting title fights for Devis Boschiero and Dario Morello. Mohammed Obbadi is never in a dull fight, Roma Super-Lightweight prospect Sebastian Mendizabal steps up again and Carmine Tommasone returns after his WBO Featherweight World title challenge against Oscar Valdez.”

Tickets will be available from next week on ticketone.it and boxofficetoscana.it. For more information call: +39 338 7769949
