ESTRADA SIGNS PROMOTIONAL DEAL WITH MATCHROOM BOXING USA

Juan Francisco Estrada has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing USA and Zanfer Promotions.

Estrada (39-3 26 KOs) came out on top in an epic rematch with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in April at The Forum in LA, regaining the WBC Super-Flyweight title and adding the Ring Magazine strap in the same venue the pair served up a classic first battle in February 2018.

The Mexican pound-for-pound star and former unified Flyweight king will announce a defense of his titles next week as he aims to unify at 115lbs, and the 29 year old is delighted to be teaming up with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn, and plotting his path to pick up more titles live on DAZN.

“I’m very excited to be fighting again on DAZN where I won the WBC title,” said Estrada. “I look forward to defending my title for Mexico and for all my fans and hopefully I can soon unify titles with the other champions of the division.

“I’m very motivated being champion once again and I’m ready to show that I’m a champion to be reckoned with.”

“I’m delighted to welcome pound-for-pound star Juan Estrada to the team,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “We have been working closely with Zanfer over the last year and this is an exciting addition to DAZN.

“Estrada was outstanding in capturing the WBC and Ring Magazine belts in LA in April and looks now to move on and unify the division. We look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Tyler Howard’s opponent Fails to make weight for Tonight’s bout in Temecula, California

NEW YORK (June 28, 2019) -Undefeated middleweight Tyler Howard (17-0, 11 Kos) was supposed to be in action tonight at the Pechanga Resort in Temecula, California, but due to complications with his opponent, Howard will not be in the ring.

Howard was originally supposed to fight Manny Woods, but Woods pulled out on Monday. Quick efforts were successful in securing a new opponent as Luis Hernandez stepped into taking the fight.

“Woods knew about the fight for seven weeks, but he pulled out. We found Hernandez and set for the fight to be at 162 pounds. Hernandez never fought above 162, and has fought most of his career at lower weights,” said Howard.

“On Wednesday night, Hernandez claimed he was 172 pound. Two-hours before the weigh in, he said he could only get to 167. We agreed to that and adjusted the contract. I just wanted to fight. At that time, I was still preparing for 162, so I had some water, had a banana and a blueberry muffin and left my hotel room at 166.4. When I went to the weigh-in and got a call from my Manager and they told me that Hernandez not only was not going to fight, but he was 174 pounds. I am disappointed, but I just want to point out that my manager of Tim VanNewhouse of Split-T Management and my promoter Top Rank did every thing they could to make the fight happen, and I just want to thank them for that. I was told, I will be back in action on July 19th in National Harbor, Maryland, and I look forward to having my fans show up to see me that night.”

MASSEY OUT OF OKOLIE CLASH – JULY 6 SHOW POSTPONED

Matchroom Boxing received news today that an arm injury has ruled Jack Massey out of his July 6 clash with Lawrence Okolie.

Consequently, a decision has been made to postpone the event.

The pair were due to meet at Manchester Arena next weekend, with Okolie’s British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight titles on the line, but the Hackney man will now defend his titles against an opponent to be confirmed soon on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs. Oscar Rivas at The O2 in London on July 20, shown live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Anthony Fowler will take on Blackpool’s former World title challenger Brian Rose on a new show later this summer, with further details to be announced early next week.

Refunds for tickets purchased for the July 6 show are available from the original point of purchase.

GORMAN TOPS FANS POLL

OVER TEN THOUSAND boxing fans participated in a social media survey this week, designed to gather the opinions of the fans on the key attributes of both Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman ahead of the British heavyweight title showdown at the o2 Arena on July 13.

Fans were asked to assess the pair across a whole range of specific skills, particular strengths and qualities across the Frank Warren social media channels.

The categories were: Better chin, most heart, speed, inside game, ring IQ, most skilful, best footwork, who hits harder, better stamina and who possesses the stronger jab.

Across the board it was Nathan who found most favour with the fans, averaging 65 per cent of the votes.

In a straight vote of ‘Who do you think will win the fight?’ it was the Ricky Hatton trained heavyweight who again came on top with 57% of the votes.

So, sticking to the theme of the popular promotional trailer, the fans seem to agree that Nathan Gorman is the man to beat Daniel Dubois!

However, it is said that the bookies rarely get it wrong and the pricing of the betting giant 32Red is firmly in the corner of Dubois.

32Red have Dubois as the odds on 4/9 favourite, with Gorman 33/20 against. If you suspect this is going to be a close run thing, the draw is a tempting 20/1.

Tickets for ‘Heavy Duty’ featuring Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Title, plus Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce v Bryant Jennings are on sale now. The show also features British Middleweight champion Liam Williams who clashes against France’s former European champion Karim Achour for the vacant WBC Silver middleweight crown. Super-flyweight sensation Sunny Edwards meets Mexican Hiram Gallardo for the vacant IBF super-flyweight title. WBO super-featherweight champion Archie Sharp risks his crown against Jordan McCorry. Returning after an impressive debut is Kent bantamweight Dennis McCann. FOX SPORTS DELIVERS KNOCKOUT PBC PROGRAMMING AHEAD OF PACQUIAO VS. THURMAN PAY-PER-VIEW TITLE FIGHT

Chris Farina – Mayweather Promotions

LOS ANGELES – Today, FOX Sports announces a robust programming lineup to promote the highly anticipated FOX Sports Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View headlined by Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman, including the premiere of FOX SPORTS PBC FACE TO FACE: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN on Sunday, June 30 (1:00 PM ET), immediately followed by the premiere of the half-hour PBC FIGHT CAMP: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN (Part 1) at 2:00 PM ET. Rounding out the schedule, the one-hour FOX SPORTS PBC COUNTDOWN: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN premieres on Saturday, July 6 (2:00 PM ET).

“Manny Pacquiao versus Keith Thurman is without a doubt the biggest fight of the year, and FOX Sports will get viewers pumped up for this blockbuster summer showdown with the PBC FACE TO FACE, COUNTDOWN and FIGHT CAMP shows,” said Charlie Dixon, Executive Vice President of Content, FOX Sports. “Fans will get an unprecedented look into the lives of Manny and Keith, as they prepare for the biggest fight of their career. Viewers will not only see their training, but will also get an inside look at their lives in training camp.”

In the explosive FOX SPORTS PBC FACE TO FACE: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN, the two superstars trade verbal jabs and discuss their motivations and strategies heading into the fight with host Brian Campbell. In the show, Pacquiao says that Thurman’s trash talking won’t affect him: “I’ve been more than two decades in boxing,” says Pacquiao. “I’ve experienced all the hardest fights – when I fought De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Morales, Marquez, Hatton, Margarito, who’s much taller than me. Nobody will intimidate me.”

“I can see it, but that’s because I’m a champion, too,” says Thurman. “It’s just a fight. It’s just a black eye. It’s just another body shot. It’s not the first and it’s not the last. But this will be the first time you’ve experienced my punch, Manny.”

PBC FIGHT CAMP: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN is a four-part series detailing the lives and training regimens of both fighters. Cameras go behind the scenes and inside the lives of both men – following Pacquiao as he arrives in Los Angeles from the Philippines, spending time with fans at his LA home and training alongside the legendary Freddie Roach at Wild Card Gym. Meanwhile on Florida’s Gulf Coast, cameras embed with Keith Thurman, who has embarked on a whole new fitness and strength regimen. With new coaches, Yo Murphy and Kimberly Doehnhart, in addition to his long-time trainer, Dan Birmingham, Keith pushes his body to peak fitness.

PBC FIGHT CAMP series is produced by Five Films, the multi-Emmy Award winning production company founded by Scott Boggins and Craig Jenest that established the popular “athlete-follow” format in sports television. Building the anticipation for the fight, PBC FIGHT CAMP: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN Part 2 continues on FOX on Sunday, July 7 at 4:30 PM ET, with Part 3 airing on FOX on Sunday, July 14 (4:00 PM ET) and Part 4 debuting on FS1 on Thursday, July 18 at 8:30 PM ET.

The one-hour FOX SPORTS PBC COUNTDOWN: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN explores how each fighter got to this fight. Take a look back at Pacquiao’s memorable and historic fights with Floyd Mayweather, Tim Bradley, and Adrien Broner. In addition, re-live Thurman’s battles with Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Josesito Lopez. Both Pacquiao and Thurman, along with their trainers and our panel of experts break down these past performances.

Finally, on Saturday, July 20 (9:00 PM ET), boxing’s only eight-division world champion, Philippine Senator and regular WBA welterweight champion Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) returns to face undefeated Super WBA Welterweight Champion Thurman (29-0, 22 KOs) in a powerhouse 147-pound showdown live on Premier Boxing Champions on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Leading up to the fights, PBC fighters offer unique, behind-the-scenes clips on the FOX PBC social pages. Follow @PBConFOX on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all updates throughout the #PBConFOX fights Saturday.

‘DYNAMITE’ DUBOIS ON PASSING THE CHIN-CHECK

DANIEL DUBOIS BELIEVES taking a whack on the whiskers in his last fight is a box ticked for him and only increases his determination to avoid a repeat.

Dubois, just 21, engaged in a shootout back in April against the then 14-1 Ghanaian Richard Lartey at Wembley. The hooks were winging in from all angles before Dubois stopped the dangerous Lartey in the fourth round.

But the executor of 10 KOs from his 11 professional fights proved that he can take a shot himself and he now faces the challenge of taking on Nathan Gorman for the British heavyweight title at the o2 Arena on July 13.

Looking back on his war at Wembley, Dubois is unfazed over the fact he tasted leather for pretty much the first time as a pro.

“Yeah, but it is a fight though and if you are not exactly sharp and on point in getting your head out of the way then you are going to get clipped,” he reasoned. “I got clipped, but no big deal, I got through it and came back firing on all cylinders.

“It made me that bit sharper so as not to get clipped again. It was a learning experience.”

The winner of five professional title belts already would not commit as to whether he will employ the same gung-ho approach to the job when he goes in with Gorman.

“Whatever my team suggest to me I will take it on-board. I will figure it out on the night, I will get a feel for him in the ring and once I know what he is about and what he is trying to do, I will deal with it.”

Tickets for ‘Heavy Duty’ featuring Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Title, plus Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce v Bryant Jennings are on sale now. NEW YORK (June 27, 2019) -This Saturday night in Providence, Rhode Island, prized prospect Otha Jones III will look for his 2nd win in seven days on two continents as he takes on Matias Agustin Arriagada.

It was just last Saturday when the 19 year-old Jones stopped Michael Horrabin in the 1st round at York Hall in London.

Jones, who is managed by Split-T Management, is wasting no time as he was asked to stay busy as soon as he landed on American soil, and he was placed on the Saturday night fight card at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

In Arriagada, he is facing a battled tested fighter from Argentina, who has a record of 6-4 with three knockouts. Arriagada has wins over two undefeated fighters.

Jones (2-0,1 KO) of Toledo, Ohio is ready for the task on Saturday night, and the fight will be streamed live on DAZN.

“After being in London, and experiencing that, it was a great feeling to make a lot of fans over there. Now I am in Rhode Island making more fans. It’s an amazing feeling to share the card with some of my amateur teammates in Raymond Ford and Alexis Espino as well as an idol of mine, Demetrius Andrade. I want to thank Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing as well as my team.”

Jones, a native of Toledo, Ohio, was a remarkable amateur as he was a 21-time National Champion, where he compiled a staggering 283-13 amateur record highlighted by representing Team USA in several international tournaments including winning a Gold Medal at the International Youth Continental Americas Tournament and Silver Medal at the Emil Jechev Memorial Tournament as well as winning several national tournaments such as the winning gold medals in United States National Championships (Twice) and the World Championship Qualifier.

Jones was also a four-time State Wrestling Champion.

Also facing off at Thursday’s press conference, and competing in SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING action beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT were super welterweights Erickson “Hammer” Lubin and France’s Zakaria Attou, who meet in a WBC title eliminator, plus Mexico’s Eduardo Ramirez and hard-hitting Claudio Marrero, who compete in a WBA featherweight title eliminator.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Lions Only Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. Charlo vs. Adams is promoted in association with Banner Promotions and The Tournament of Contenders.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday from the East VIP Club at NRG Stadium:

JERMALL CHARLO

“Houston, we’re back. After seven years it feels good to be home and feel the love that this city gives me. I’m thankful to Brandon and his team for stepping up and answering the call. I hope he knows this isn’t going to be easy.

“I plan on delivering something explosive like I always do. I want to give my fans in Houston and around the world a show to remember the rest of their lives.

“I know that Brandon has worked hard with Dub Huntley and Freddie Roach, but I did the same with Ronnie Shields. The work is put in, and I’m ready. I’m going to deliver a statement.

“Right now I’m focused on Brandon Adams and I’ve been focused on him for the last couple of months. We’re going to get the job done Saturday night.

“I have so much more that I want to show and so much more than I want to prove in this sport. Ronnie has taught me so much and we’re here to be explosive and memorable every time we’re in the ring.

“This is a legacy fight for me because I have an opponent coming to my backyard and I’m not letting him take this moment from me.

“Brandon Adams made it to this level, so he’s definitely on my level. This isn’t ‘The Contender’ though, this is ‘The Lions Only Show’.

“Adams has a chance to be able to challenge himself against me on Saturday. I’m sure this is something that he’s looked forward to. But I didn’t get to this point by overlooking anybody.”

BRANDON ADAMS

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here. I’m looking to put forth the effort that will make me the new champion and have my hand raised on Saturday night.

“I just want to put on a performance. I want us to give the fans something to remember. I want it to go down in history. I need that opponent who can help me make history.

“I believe Jermall is everything that he has shown and proven to be. That’s what I’m up against and that’s the kind of challenge that I want on Saturday.

“This fight on Saturday is going to be fireworks. We’re both bringing our A-game. I don’t get too much into what other people think. I go by what I believe, and I believe in myself. I always have and always will.

“I’ve been through a whole lot in my whole life and I’m to the point where everything is going golden now and I’m grateful for it. We’re going to put it all on the table and all on the line in that ring.

“The object to boxing is to hit and not get hit, any elite fighter, they do that pretty well. I plan to do that. Jermall is a champion, you can’t take anything from his line of work and what he has done. But since I am the guy that hasn’t been around, or the guy that people don’t know much about, I have a great opportunity to showcase a little bit more of who I am. I am excited to do that.”

“I’m a fan friendly fighter. I’m looking to become a world champion on Saturday night and I’m going to leave it all on the line. It’s one fight at a time and this is the biggest opportunity yet.”

ERICKSON LUBIN

“It’s an honor to be here back on the big stage. I have a solid opponent in front of me. He’s coming to fight and take my spot. It’s my job to run him over.

“I’ve been training for a long grueling fight. I feel like I’m going to have some physical advantages in the fight, so it will just be about listening to my corner and picking the right time to implement our plan.

“The (154-pound) division is wide open and some of the top guys like (Jarrett) Hurd and (Jermell) Charlo have suffered losses. Now I know I’m back in the mix and may have a shot to fight for a world title soon if I take care of business on Saturday night.

“This isn’t a redemption fight for me because I’m not fighting a Charlo. But I realize we’re in Houston and this is their hometown so of course I want to put a good show on for the fans.

“It’s been a tremendous training camp in Florida with Kevin Cunningham. It’s my time. Saturday night is ‘Hammer Time’ on SHOWTIME. “

ZAKARIA ATTOU

“This is a great opportunity for me to show off my skills here in the U.S. on SHOWTIME. As a European champion, I know I’m the underdog. But I’ve trained hard and I have some surprises for Erickson Lubin.

“I have some difficult-to-master skills. I have some good moves and I want to show and use them. That’s the kind of boxer I am.

“It’s great to be here in the U.S but I’m only focused on winning. I’ve trained very hard, my camp was great and from my sparring to my trainers, everything went well.

“I don’t need to talk while I’m up here, I’m going to do all of my talking in the ring on Saturday night.”

EDUARDO RAMIREZ

“This is a great opportunity. We didn’t come to dance. We came to fight. I am very prepared to win this for my country of Mexico.

“I know Marrero is a very tough opponent. He has a very strong punch and likes to attack, but I am very prepared for whatever he brings into the ring.

“I have been training very hard. I know that he is a lefty so we have been training with only southpaws in camp. I know he is a very strong opponent, but I am ready for him.

“I am here to fight, that is what fans want to see. They want to see us fight not dance. So hopefully I come away with a victory.”

CLAUDIO MARRERO

“I’m very prepared for this fight. I’m always ready for war and I’m going to go to war Saturday night. I hope Ramirez is prepared as well, because we’re going to have an intense fight.

“I’m glad to be here in Houston for this fight. I want to thank everyone who’s supporting this event. It’s going to be a great night of boxing.

“Ramirez talks like he wants to apply the pressure but we are going to be the ones that will apply the pressure. So we’ll see if he can stand up to it.

“I believe I have the best game plan for Saturday. It’s going to be a strategic type of fight. I’m going to play my pieces right. I’m going to be aggressive and be right where I want to be.

“I’m very motivated. Extremely motivated. It’s been one of my best camps of my life and it’s going to show on Saturday.”

CALEB PLANT TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (June 27, 2019) – Undefeated IBF Super Middleweight World Champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant discussed his current training camp as he prepares for his first title defense against unbeaten Mike Lee in the main event of FOX PBC Fight Night on FOX and FOX Deportes Saturday, July 20 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

FOX PBC Fight Night coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and will precede the PBC on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View event that also takes place at MGM Grand and is headlined by eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao facing WBA Welterweight World Champion Keith Thurman.

Tickets for the live event, which is presented by TGB Promotions and Sweethands Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased online through AXS.com, charge by phone at 886-740-7711 or in person at any MGM Resorts International box office.

Plant (18-0, 10 KOs) captured his world title on January on FS1 when he dropped Jose Uzcategui twice on his way to a unanimous decision victory. Here is what he said about his first world title defense and more from training camp with trainer Justin Gamber at City Boxing Gym in Las Vegas.

On his recent training camp:

“This has been the best training camp of my career. I’m getting great sparring with guys who are pushing me to be my best. I’m a world champion and I know what needs to be done in camp to stay that way. There is still a lot that the world hasn’t seen when it comes to my boxing skill and ability. On July 20, the world will see more of it. My entire team is doing a great job and my motivation is at an all-time high.”

On his matchup with undefeated foe Mike Lee:

“Mike Lee is coming down in weight and is the bigger man. I know he’s looking to rough me up and use his size against me. On top of that he’s undefeated and looking to stay that way. I’m expecting him to leave everything in the ring, but I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, Mike Lee is not making it to the final bell. I’m going to knock him out.”

On fighting in the biggest boxing event of the year live on FOX:

“When they presented me with the opportunity to fight on FOX, I immediately said yes. No other network in boxing compares to FOX. This is the biggest stage in the sport and I’m going to put on a masterful performance for all the fans watching. It’s also a great honor to be the lead-in main event to the legend Manny Pacquiao. To all my Latino fans who’ll be watching on FOX Deportes, I want to say Muchas Gracias.”

On fighting for his hometown of Nashville, TN:

“I love putting Nashville on the map in the boxing world. I’m riding with Nashville on my back till the wheels fall off. Like I said after my fight when I won my world title, Nashville stand up!”

DEMETRIUS ANDRADE VS. MACIEJ SULECKI FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE

On Saturday night, WBO Middleweight World Champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (27-0, 17 KOs) will make his second middleweight title defense against dangerous challenger Maciej Sulecki (28-1, 11 KOs) at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, and live exclusively on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

**TICKETS FOR ANDRADE VS. SULECKI ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**

Two-division world champion Andrade, 31, will fight for the first time as a professional in his hometown of Providence where he is largely considered the top amateur in Rhode Island history. The winner of Saturday night’s scrap on DAZN could catapult themselves into consideration for a huge middleweight title unification fight.

Andrade’s defense against Sulecki is part of a blockbuster night of action as unbeaten Briton Kal Yafai defends his WBA Super Flyweight title against mandatory challenger Norbelto Jimenez and former Heavyweight king Joseph Parker takes on Australian challenger Alex Leapai in a scheduled 12-round heavyweight fight.

Undercard action begins at 7 p.m. ET on DAZN with three fights, including bouts featuring two rising prospects, Otha Jones, Jr. and Alexis Espino. The evening’s main card kicks off at 9 p.m. ET.

Below is what the fighters had to say at today’s press conference:

Eddie Hearn

“It is a pleasure to be in Providence, Rhode Island. One thing that we have set out to do with Matchroom USA is to build fighters in their hometowns. I am still in disbelief that Demetrius has never fought in his hometown.

“Everyone keeps talking about Canelo-GGG for September. I understand that people are interested in seeing that fight again but what about Canelo against the winner of this fight for the undisputed status? That’s the biggest fight to make at middleweight.

“One thing that we have promised Andrade and his team is activity. This is his third fight in eight months, and I believe we will see a very special performance from him. In Sulecki, he brings it every single time. He is in great fights. He has a chance to thrust himself into life changing, legacy fights with a win here. He will do everything he can to beat Demetrius on Saturday night because he understands those odds.

“We have a stacked undercard here in Providence. I want to thank DAZN for making an investment in the young, promising fighters of tomorrow. They have given a platform to these young stars to build them up the right way and get the best prospects exposure early in their careers. Without DAZN, none of this is possible. They are building stars and putting on the biggest events without PPV. Joshua vs. Ruiz, Canelo vs. Jacobs – those were two great PPV level events and they deliver that to fans everywhere for a low price and in a new way.”

Demetrius Andrade

“It’s me again. Tall, black and handsome. On Saturday, I am going to do what I have been doing. No disrespect to Sulecki, he’s been in there with my boy Danny Jacobs and other guys I have fought. I heard Sulecki went into the hotel and put a drawing of me and it shows my head knocked off. But the last guy that did something like that, he got his ass whooped and he will get his ass whooped, too. Best of luck to all of the great fighters on the card this weekend. DAZN continues to do a great job keeping me active and getting these kids shine.

“I had my first few weeks of training out in California with Victor Conte. That went great. But hey, it’s me again and this is my show. Good luck to Sulecki, I hope he puts on a good performance then gets his ass whooped.”

Maciej Sulecki

“Thanks to Matchroom, Eddie Hearn, DAZN, my team, my trainer. Everyone who made this opportunity possible. It was a very good training camp. Three weeks in Poland and then seven more weeks in New York. I am ready for a very tough fight with Andrade. Before I came to the U.S., I had great respect for Andrade. But when I came here, I lost all respect for him. He just talks too much. He thinks he is as good as the other great fighters like GGG but he is not. I know one thing about him, and it’s that he doesn’t respect anyone. He is disrespectful.”

Joseph Parker

“It’s great to be in Providence with my team. The last six weeks in Vegas were great, we had a great training camp. I stayed in great shape when I was back home. Usually I blow up between camps but this time I surprised my coach a bit when I showed up in shape. I have a lot to prove and a lot to show people in the heavyweight division. I know he will come out swinging so it should be a really fun fight. But I expect to come out on top in what will be a great fight on Saturday night.”

Alex Leapai

“Thank you to Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn and DAZN. I am from Australia. Joseph Parker is from New Zealand. But we are both from Samoa. That doesn’t happen every day, it doesn’t happen very often at all that two great fighters from where we are from meet in big-time fight. It will be great for us to get in the ring together. I am thrilled for this fight on Saturday night.”

Kal Yafai

“Thanks to everyone who made this possible. I had a great training camp, I am going to put my life on the line for this fight. He has never boxed anyone as quick, powerful and talented as me. He is in for a rude awakening on Saturday night.”

Norbelto Jimenez

“I want to thank Eddie Hearn, DAZN and Matchroom Boxing. This is a long overdue title shot for me. I am coming for the title on Saturday night. I owe the Dominican Republic a title, I am not going to be robbed this time like I was in my last title shot. I am going to make this one count.”

Otha Jones, Jr.

“This is a great opportunity. I fought last weekend in London and now I am back in Providence to put on another show. It is great to share this platform with two of my buddies from the amateurs, Ray Ford and Alexis Espino, and my idol, Demetrius Andrade. My dad used to make me do homework on ‘Boo Boo’ and now I am sharing a card with him. It’s crazy and I am humbled to be here. I am excited to put on a show on Saturday night.”

WBC INTERNATIONAL TITLE SANCTIONED FOR KHAN V DIB ON RED SEA FIGHT NIGHT IN JEDDAH

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (27 June 2019) The World Boxing Council (WBC) has sanctioned the organisation’s Vacant International Welterweight title to be contested between Amir Khan and Billy Dib on Friday 12th July at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

It was announced yesterday that Khan would now face Australian Dib after original opponent Neeraj Goyat was forced to withdraw following his involvement in a serious car accident that has required him to have hospital treatment.

The history-making fight between British-Pakistani Khan and India’s Goyat would have been the first time the two nations had met in the boxing ring and the WBC had commissioned a special one-time Pearl Championship belt to commemorate the landmark fight.

However, with the unfortunate withdrawal of Goyat, the WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has now given permission for the Vacant WBC International title to be on the line instead when Khan and Dib, both Two-Time World Champions, meet in the ring on fight night.

The WBC International Welterweight belt has previously been held by former pound-for-pound greats Shane Mosley and Erik Morales.

Sulaiman said, “The fight between Amir Khan and Billy Dib is now officially confirmed for the WBC International title and I’m proud that it will be contested for at the magnificent King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Jeddah. The specially commissioned WBC Pearl Championship belt that was due to be challenged for will now be contested at a future date. The winner of Khan and Dib will receive a WBC ranking in the top five of the welterweight division.”

The event titled Red Sea Fight Night staged during the Saudi Seasons – an initiative aimed at transforming the Kingdom into one of the most important tourist destinations in the world – is a boxing extravaganza with three further big Championship titles fights on the show: Hughie Fury vs. Samuel Peter – Championship Title TBC; Prince Patel vs. Michell Banquez – IBO World Bantamweight Championship; Dave Penalosa vs. Lerato Dlamini – WBC Silver Featherweight Championship

WBC Makes Canelo “Franchise” Champion

The WBC stripped Canelo Alvarez of his world title, and made him their “Franchise” champion, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“The franchise champion is a special designation and status which the WBC may bestow to a current WBC world champion, who is also an elite boxer and who has achieved and maintains the highest of statures in the sport,” the WBC said in its explanation.

“We’re very happy and glad that Canelo is being recognized,” Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez told ESPN on Thursday. “We think it’s an honor for Canelo to be elevated to franchise champion. It goes to show that he is being recognized for all of his accomplishments.”

“With Canelo’s appointment as franchise champion WBC interim champion Jermall Charlo is now confirmed as WBC middleweight champion of the world,” the WBC added.

Canelo – Golovkin 3 talks impasse over site

Talks of 3rd fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have hit a snag over the site of a proposed fight, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

olovkin has made it clear that after an extremely controversial draw in their first fight in September 2017 and a disputed majority-decision loss in their rematch last September that cost him his belts and ended his reign tied for the division record, with 20 consecutive defenses, he has no desire to return to Las Vegas for a third fight, feeling that he did not get a fair shake in boxing’s capital.

Las Vegas, however, is where Alvarez intends to fight, specifically at T-Mobile Arena, which hosted both bouts with Golovkin and where they generated more than $50 million in ticket sales between the two fights.

Alavrez could look for fights at super middleweight and light heavyweight against champion Callum Smith or Sergey Kovalev.

“Canelo absolutely is serious about fighting Kovalev, and I think it would be a great fight,” Golden Boy’s Eric Gomez told ESPN. “All I can say is that Canelo is serious about making history and fighting him. Canelo always wants to fight the best opponents and the biggest fights. I think Canelo is the best fighter in the world, and I think anywhere between 160 and 175 pounds, he will give anyone a run for their money.”

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, Kovalev’s promoter, said a fight with Alvarez is certainly one their side is interested in.

“I do believe, based upon what I am hearing, that Canelo really wants to fight Sergey,” Duva said. “It’s a legacy thing. But Golden Boy has not made us any kind of offer. So unless and until they do, there is nothing to talk about. Having said that, you have to really admire Canelo. The guy is truly a throwback fighter, always looking for a bigger challenge. I really admire that about him. And, of course, Sergey would love it too.”

Nikitin out of Conlan fight

Vladimir Nikitin has pulled out of his August 3rd fight with Michael Conlan due to a shoulder injury, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“He (Manager Egis Klimis) called us and told us that Nikitin is headed back to Russia for surgery,” said Top Rank Vice-President Carl Moretti said. “We are searching for a new opponent for Conlan.”

“We’re not even going to think about rescheduling the fight right now,” Moretti said. “It’s too severe of an injury. And when he does come back we’d probably have to give him another fight first before he could be ready to fight Conlan. It’s a disappointment.”
