July 13: Shakur Stevenson to Fight Franklin Manzanilla in Newark Homecoming

NEWARK, N.J. (June 25, 2019) — Newark native Shakur Stevenson has graduated from co-headliner to center stage performer. Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, will return home for the first time as a professional when he faces former world title challenger Franklin Manzanilla in a 10-round featherweight bout Saturday, July 13 at Prudential Center.

Manzanilla replaces original opponent Hairon Socarras, who dropped out of the fight.

Stevenson-Manzanilla and the 12-round IBF bantamweight eliminator for the No. 2 ranking featuring Joshua Greer Jr. and Nikolai Potapov will be televised live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.

The entire undercard will stream live on ESPN+ — the leading multi-sport streaming service — starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets priced at $100, $75, $50 and $25 (not including applicable fees) are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, charge by phone at 800-745-3000 and in person at the Prudential Center box office.

“It doesn’t matter who I fight. I am ready to put on a show for my hometown,” Stevenson said. “Newark is going to be out in full force, and I know a victory on July 13 will move me closer to a world title shot, which is my ultimate goal.”

“I fought for a world title against Rey Vargas in my last fight, and I let that opportunity slip away,” Manzanilla said. “Against Shakur, I don’t want that to happen to me again. It will be an honor to be in the ring with an Olympian on such a big stage. I am inspired to give the fans a great show and crash the party.”

Stevenson (11-0, 6 KOs), the WBO No. 1 contender, returned from the 2016 Rio Olympics as one of the sport’s most highly touted prospects. He graduated from prospect to contender status in 2018, knocking out longtime contender Viorel Simion in one round as the ESPN-televised co-feature to the Terence Crawford-Jose Benavidez fight in Omaha, Nebraska. Stevenson shined on the Crawford-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard April 20 at Madison Square Garden, dominating former world title challenger Christopher Diaz over 10 rounds.

Manzanilla (18-5, 17 KOs) is a Colombian power puncher who made his United States debut earlier this year when he challenged unbeaten WBC super bantamweight champion Vargas. He knocked down Vargas in the second round of a rough-and-tumble fight, ultimately dropping a unanimous decision. Manzanilla owns a 2018 TKO victory over former WBC super bantamweight champion Julio Ceja and has only been knocked out once in the paid ranks.

The ESPN+ undercard will include the following fights:
Vijender Singh, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist from India and the only Olympic boxing medalist in his nation’s history, will face Mike Snider (13-5-3, 8 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout. Singh last fought in December 2017 and is hoping to get closer to a world title shot with a strong finish to the year.

Joseph “Blessed Hands” Adorno (12-0, 10 KOs), a 20-year-old knockout artist from Allentown, Pennsylvania, will see action in an eight-round lightweight bout against Dominican veteran Adriano Ramirez (10-3, 6 KOs). Adorno has seven first-round knockouts on his ledger.

Vito Mielnicki Jr. will become the first New Jersey boxer to turn pro at the age of 17 when he fights in a four-round super welterweight bout against Tamarcus Smith (2-2, 2 KOs). Mielnicki received a special exemption to turn pro from the New Jersey Athletic Control Board.

Julian Rodriguez (16-0, 10 KOs), a former amateur sensation from Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, will return from a nearly two-year layoff to fight Hevinson Herrera (24-17-1, 18 KOs) in a six-round super lightweight bout. Before turning pro in September 2013, Rodriguez won a 2013 National Golden Gloves title.

Josue “The Prodigy” Vargas (13-1, 8 KOs), from the Bronx, will look to extend his winning streak to eight against Manuel Lopez (14-3-1, 7 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight fight.

John “El Terrible” Bauza (12-0, 5 KOs) the Puerto Rican-born super lightweight prospect who now resides in North Bergen, New Jersey, will face Mexican veteran Angel Sarinana (10-8-2, 4 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

UFC® RETURNS TO NEWARK’S PRUDENTIAL CENTER WITH PIVOTAL WELTERWEIGHT BOUT BETWEEN (#2) COLBY COVINGTON AND (#10) ROBBIE LAWLER

LAS VEGAS – UFC® returns to Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. for the first time in three years with a thrilling welterweight contenders’ bout that sees former interim titleholder and No. 2 ranked Colby Covington take on former champion and No. 10 Robbie Lawler. Among the other highly anticipated bouts will be a top-10 light heavyweight clash featuring former title challenger and No. 7 ranked Volkan Oezdemir against hard-hitting No. 9 Ilir Latifi.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT ON ESPN® will air live from the Prudential Center exclusively on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 3, with the prelims kicking off at 12 p.m. ET. on ESPN and in Spanish on the ESPN App. Doors open at 11 a.m. ET. All UFC live events will also be available in English and Spanish.

Currently riding a six-fight win streak, Covington’s (14-1, fighting out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) last outing saw him secure an impressive decision victory over Rafael Dos Anjos one year ago. A NCAA Division I wrestler known for his relentless pressure, Covington has also netted dominant wins against former title challenger Demian Maia, Dong Hyun Kim and Bryan Barberena. He now aims to take out a former champion en route to earning a shot at the 170-pound belt.

Considered one of the most exciting KO artists in MMA history, Lawler (28-13 1NC, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) first captured the welterweight championship against Johny Hendricks in late 2014. Lawler then went on to have epic title defenses against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit. Lawler has also netted wins over Donald Cerrone, Matt Brown and Josh Koscheck during his career. He now hopes to stop Covington’s momentum and re-assert himself as one of the division’s most dangerous contenders.

A skilled kickboxer with heavy hands, Oezdemir (15-4, fighting out of Fribourg, Switzerland) earned his nickname “No Time” with a pair of rapid-fire knockouts that secured him a light heavyweight title shot in 2017. During his UFC tenure, Oezdemir has netted impressive wins over contenders Ovince Saint Preux, Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa. He now aims to re-assert himself in the championship picture with yet another highlight-reel finish.

A powerful and gritty grappler, Latifi (15-6 1NC, fighting out of Malmo, Sweden) has proven equally dangerous striking as he is on the mat. The Allstars Training Center standout has utilized relentless pressure to pick up spectacular victories against Ovince Saint Preux, Tyson Pedro and Gian Villante. Latifi now looks to add a former light heavyweight title challenger to his impressive resume to continue his ascent up the 205-pound ladder.

Announced bouts on the card include:

In a spectacular clash of lightweight veterans, New Jersey native Jim Miller (30-13 1NC, fighting out of Sparta, N.J.) locks horns with Clay Guida (35-15, fighting out of Johnsburg, Ill.)
Talented finisher Joaquim Silva (11-1, fighting out of Curitiba, Brazil) aims to put on another show-stealing performance against streaking Nasrat Haqparast (10-2, fighting out of Hamburg, Germany)
No. 8 ranked flyweight contender Jordan Espinosa (13-5 1NC, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) looks to keep his momentum going against No. 12 Matt Schnell (13-4, fighting out of Shreveport, La.)
No. 8 ranked Lauren Murphy (10-4, fighting out of Glendale, Ariz.) faces No. 12 Mara Romero Borella (13-5 1NC, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla. by way of Ponte dell’Olio, Italy) in a clash of women’s flyweight contenders
Dana White’s Contender Series signee Antonina Shevchenko (7-1, fighting out of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) looks to put on a striking clinic against gritty Lucie Pudilova (8-4, fighting out of Pribram, Czech Republic) in a battle of flyweight prospects
Trevin Giles (11-1, fighting out of Houston, Tex.) takes on Gerald Meerschaert (28-11, fighting out of Milwaukee, Wisc.) in an exciting middleweight bout
Hard-hitting light heavyweights throw down when Darko Stosic (13-2, fighting out of Belgrade, Serbia) faces Kennedy Nzechukwu (6-1, fighting out of Dallas, Tex.)
Ramazan Emeev (18-3, fighting out of Makhachkala, Russia) goes for his eighth consecutive win against submission ace Claudio Silva (13-1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
Scott Holtzman (12-3, fighting out of Knoxville, Tenn.) hopes to return to the win column when he squares off with battle-tested Dong Hyun Ma (16-9, fighting out of Busan, South Korea)

BEATING DUBOIS WILL BE A PIECE OF CAKE

NATHAN GORMAN has splattered arch rival Daniel Dubois by squashing him with his birthday cake (see link).

Gorman, is 23 today (Tuesday), but in no mood to celebrate until after their vacant British heavyweight title clash at London’s o2 on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

He said: “It’s just a normal training day so I am hardly in the mood to eat cake and have a fun day.

“I won’t see my family because I am staying away from home to be near the gym, but it will be worth it when I beat Daniel.

“I was given the cake at the wrong time and if I did try to eat it I don’t think my trainer Ricky Hatton would’ve been pleased.”

Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) has done his best to dampen Gorman’s birthday claiming his rival will never entertain fans and says he expects an easy night on Frank Warren’s spectacular card.

Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) who sparred around 200 rounds with Dubois when they were amateurs snapped back: “Don’t throw stones from a glass house.

“He knows deeps down that he has to train his hardest and that I am coming to take that belt. He knows it.

“No disrespect to the opponents we have both fought – they are just learning fights and had lost before. I won’t accept defeat like they might.

“When I beat him what is he going to say then? He says I’m not exciting, but I will have beaten him so what will that make me?”

Tickets for ‘Heavy Duty’ featuring Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Title, plus Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce v Bryant Jennings are on sale now. The show also features British Middleweight champion Liam Williams who clashes against France’s former European champion Karim Achour for the vacant WBC Silver middleweight crown. Ryan Walsh-Lewis Paulin and Ohara Davies-Miguel Vazquez LIVE on ESPN+ Friday, June 28

(June 24, 2019) — British featherweight champion Ryan Walsh will make the sixth defense of his title in a 12-round showdown against the unbeaten Lewis Paulin on the latest edition of #MTKFightNight Friday, June 28 at York Hall in London.

In the 10-round super lightweight co-feature, loquacious contender Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies will take on former lightweight world champion Miguel Vazquez.

Walsh-Paulin and Davies-Vazquez will headline a scheduled four-bout stream on ESPN+ — the leading multi-sport streaming service — beginning at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.

Walsh (23-2-2, 11 KOs) has held the British featherweight title since 2015, when he edged Samir Mouneimne by split decision to win the vacant belt. He is unbeaten in three bouts — all defenses of the British title — since losing a split decision in October 2016 to Dennis Ceylan for the vacant European featherweight title. Paulin (12-0, 3 KOs), from Edinburgh, Scotland, is taking a massive step up in class, as he has only two wins against foes with winning records. He is two fights removed from winning the Scottish featherweight title via decision against then-unbeaten Stephen Tiffney.

Davies (18-2, 14 KOs) turned pro in 2014 following a brief amateur career and became one of Great Britain’s leading prospects following a 15-0 start to his pro career. He stumbled in a bid for the Commonwealth super lightweight title against Josh Taylor, suffering a pair of knockdowns en route to a seventh-round stoppage loss. Davies rebounded with a trio of wins before dropping a competitive decision to Jack Catterall last October.

Vazquez (41-7, 15 KOs), from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, famously lost a split decision to Canelo Alvarez in his professional debut in 2006. In August 2010, he won the vacant IBF world lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Ji Hoon Kim. He would go on to defend the title six times before dropping a razor-thin split decision to Mickey Bey in September 2014. He is 7-3 since losing the world title, most recently upsetting Ghislain Maduma by split decision in Maduma’s adopted hometown of Montreal.

Friday’s stream will also include:
In a 10-round showdown featuring a pair of unbeaten super lightweights, Daniel “Danny Darko” Egbunike (4-0, 3 KOs) will take on Martin McDonagh (5-0, 0 KOs).

Former European super lightweight champion and recent world title challenger Anthony Yigit (23-1-1, 8 KOs) will fight Siar Ozgul (15-3, 3 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

RJJ BOXING TO OFFER FREE ADMISSIONAUGUST 2ND IN LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS (June 17, 2019) – Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions will give away the house August 2 nd on another installment of RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS®, offering free admission to its loyal fanbase, at the famed Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

World Boxing Council (WBC) female World super featherweight champion Eva Wahlstrom(22-1-1, 3 KOs), fighting out of Finland, will headline in a 10-round bout against challengerYareli “Chocolita” Larios (13-2-1, 3 KOs), of Mexico.

“We want to give back to the Las Vegas boxing community because RJJ Boxing started and remains based here in the boxing capital of the world,” RJJ Boxing CEO/co-founderKeith Veltre explained. “What better way to do it than to headline the card with a world title bout? There will be a very limited number of ringside seats on sale. All other tickets will be FREE! This is our way of saying thank you to Las Vegas boxing fans for their tremendous loyalty to RJJ Boxing the past five-plus years.”

Fans can register online to receive their free tickets, by going to https://www.thomasandmack.com/ and following instructions.

RJJ Boxing co-founder and living legend Roy Jones, Jr. will host a meet-and-great for ticket holders prior to the fights.

Former European champion Wahlstrom captured her WBC female World super featherweight title in 2015, when she won a 10-round decision over Natalia Vanesa del Valle Aguirre. She followed with four successful title defenses to date, all by way of 10-round decisions, versus Dahiana Santana (35-7), Anahi Esther Sanchez (14-0), Mayra Alejandra Gomez (18-5) and Melissa St. Vil (10-2-4).

Last December, Wahlstrom traveled outside her native Finland to fight for the first time as a professional, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, moving up in weight to challenge undefeated IBF/WBA lightweight champion Katie Taylor (11-0), the 2012 Olympic and 5-time AIBA World Amateur Championships gold medalist from Ireland. Wahlstrom extended Taylor, now 14-0 (6 KOs) and undisputed world lightweight champion, the full 10-round distance, albeit in a losing effort.

She returns to America for her second pro fight, as well as her fifth WBC world title defense.

“When I found boxing as a 15-year-old,” Wahlstrom explained, “Roy Jones Jr. was the first boxer I watched and who I was inspired by. It feels almost unreal that over 20 years later he wants to sign me, but maybe that is the reward for two decades of hard work. I’m very thankful for this opportunity. I’ve had a few dreams during my career and fighting in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas, is one of them.
“It has been a tricky road to arrange this fight and I would like to thank Natlyn Jones(Roy’s wife), who has fought for me and this fight, regardless of setbacks or obstacles. To be fighting in the main event of a high-level event like this feels incredible, especially as a woman boxer.
The way Natlyn and RJJ Boxing have shown me trust and loyalty in recent months has also built a foundation for future cooperation.”

Yareli, a former WBC FECOMBOX super featherweight champion, will be fighting outside of her native Mexico for only the second time. In her last fight this past February, Larios lost an eight-round decision in Hinkley, Minnesota, to North American Boxing Federation (NABF) champion Mikaela Mayer (10-4, 4 KOs), a 2016 U.S. Olympian.

I’m excited to meet Yareli Larios,” Wahlstrom said. “She is a young, dangerous opponent who will surely come very well prepared for this title fight. Her father is an ex-WBC champion, so this fight surely has extra importance for their entire team. We must be well prepared for whatever they bring. I wish her all the best for her preparation.”

Scheduled to fight on the Aug. 2nd FREE RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS card in the 10-round, co-feature is undefeated, WBA No. 14-rated junior welterweight Kendo “Tremendo” Casteneda (16-0, 7 KOs), the reigning North American Boxing Association (NABA) champion from San Antonio, Texas.

All fights and fighters are subject to change. Opponents and other fights will soon be announced.

Muhsin Cason Scores First Round TKO to Extend Undefeated Record

LAS VEGAS (June 22, 2019) – Undefeated heavyweight prospect, Muhsin Cason (5-0, 3 KOs), who is managed by Greg Hannley of Prince Ranch Boxing, remained unbeaten with a 1st round TKO against Nathaniel Copeland (1-1, 1 KO) of Washington D.C.

Cason, the younger brother of two-time heavyweight world champion Hasim Rahman, landed a vicious body blow in the middle of round one, sending the bigger Copeland to the canvas. Copeland did not recover, and the bout was halted.

“Since I’ve recently moved up to heavyweight, I feel a lot stronger,” said Cason, who is also trained by his older brother Hasim Rahman. “I’m starting to feel more comfortable at heavyweight with each fight. This was my second bout fighting with the big boys and I promise to get better with each fight. My power is moving up with me. I’m hoping to get back in the ring next month.”

“Muhsin showed he has the power to compete at heavyweight,” said manager Greg Hannely. “We are going to try to get three or four more fights in before the end of the year. Right now, the focus is on keeping him busy. He has a bright future and we believe he has all the tools to become a force in the heavyweight division.”

“Muhsin is becoming a better fighter as he marches on in his career,” said Hasim Rahman, who trains Muhsin. “We are working very had in the gym and he’s getting great sparring with some of the best heavyweight in boxing. He’s still learning but he’s retaining all the knowledge I’m showing him. I’m happy we got another knockout against a tough fighter like Copeland.”

Yunusov stops Luna in 2

Philadelphia, PA (June 24, 2019)–Three-time Olympian, Anvar Yunusov remained perfect by stopping Angel Luna in the 2nd round of their scheduled eight-round junior lightweight bout.

The fight headlined an eight-bout card at The 2300 Arena and was promoted by King’s Promotions in association with Titans Boxing Promotions.

Yunosov dropped Luna with a right hook in round one. That was followed by a flurry of punches that Luna barely survived. It didn’t take long, as in round two, Yunusov landed a perfect straight left that deposited Luna on his back. Yunusov jumped on Luna, and the bout was stopped at 56 seconds.

Yunusov of Philadelphia via Tajakistan is now 8-0 with four knockouts.

Madison fought through a badly swollen left eye that occurred in round five. Simms had a bad cut over his right eye, but was able to come through by scores of 80-72 twice and 79-73.

2016 U.S. Olympian Paul Kroll kept his perfect mark in-tact as he scored a memorable 1st round stoppage over Hector Mercado in a scheduled six-round welterweight bout.

Kroll of Philadelphia is 4-0 with four knockouts. Mercado is 3-11.

Kashon Hutchinson won a six-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated James Martin in a welterweight bout.

Hutchinson scored a flash knockdown in the opening frame, and that proved to be distance as he took all cards 57-56.

Hutchinson of Reading, PA is 5-5. Martin of Philadelphia is 4-1.

Wheeler dropped Hendrix twice and the fight was stopped immedately upon the 2nd knockdown at 2:45.

Wheeler of Bethlehem, PA is 2-0 with two knockouts. Hendrix of Little Rock, Arkansas was making his pro debut.

ANDRADE: PROVIDENCE WILL SEE GREATNESS ON SATURDAY

Demetrius Andrade believes his big homecoming night will be the perfect showcase to secure blockbuster fights as he defends his WBO World Middleweight title against Maciej Sulecki on Saturday June 29 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
**TICKETS FOR ANDRADE VS. SULECKI ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**
Andrade (27-0 17 KOs) fights at home for the first time as a World champion in the second defense of the 160lb crown he landed in Boston in October against Walter Kautondokwa and then stopped Artur Akavov in New York in January in his first defense.

The two-weight World ruler now gets the chance to thrill his hometown fans against Sulecki (28-1 11 KOs), the Pole that landed the clash coming out on top of a rollercoaster clash with Gabriel Rosado in March – and believes that a stand-out performance as a hometown headliner will see him land the fights that he craves with Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin.

“Fighting at home is really exciting,” said Andrade. “In a way it’s more exciting for the fans in Providence as I’ve fought all over the world already. So, to give my hometown the chance to watch me display my skills, talent, work ethic is going to be great for them – they’re going to see greatness from one of their own. I’ve got two full passports from travelling the world and it’s a privilege to do that, to see the world and learn and gain experience, so to come home for such a big fight is great.

“I’m an Olympian and a two-weight World champion, but that’s not enough because there’s a lot of people that haven’t seen my talent displayed in the mainstream like some other fighters, like Canelo Alvarez, as Golden Boy did a great job moving him and GGG had great promotion too, but they’re not the greatest talents out there, they are just the most popular. It’s called prize fighting and I am looking to capitalize on that, with the capital.

“I’ve got air in me now. Should I have been the guy like Canelo with the machine behind him? Yeah, I could’ve been that, but it didn’t fall that way for me, but now I’m here. I kept my focus in mind, body and soul and continued to grind, because anyone else, this boxing game is hard and people give up, especially when there’s no money coming in as you have to pay the bills.

“I’ve been through the politics of boing and found my way out of it, just like I’ve found my way to win in every fight. Being who I am and having the team around me has got me to the point where I’m headlining the Dunk as an undefeated World champion.

“Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing USA have realized the talent and the character that I am, and DAZN are doing a great job too, giving the different characters in the sport the exposure so that people can tune in outside the people we already know. Through the obstacles I’ve been through, they tried to sweep me under the rug, I got back up, wiped off the dirt and it’s me again.

“To be the first Cape Verdean as an undisputed champion would be history and the same for New England, we’ve only really had Vinny Paz and that was 30 years ago. I’m continuing to catapult myself to be the best I can and set the bar high for others.”

Andrade’s clash with Sulecki is part of a blockbuster night of World championship boxing as Briton’s Kal Yafai defends his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against mandatory challenger Norbelto Jimenez and former Heavyweight king Joseph Parker takes on Australian former World title challenger Alex Leapai.

Boston’s Mark DeLuca faces Canadian Brandon Brewer over ten rounds at Super-Welterweight, young talents Alexis Espino and Raymond Ford taste their third action in the paid ranks, local favorite Anthony Marsella faces Jose Aubel, with another unbeaten Providence fighter Anthony Concepcion also featuring.

Tickets are on sale NOW – starting at just $28 (including fees) from https://www1.ticketmaster.com/event/010056AAED7788D1?brand=dunkindonuts&camefrom=cfc_dd_center_boxing19_web

ABO AMERICA’S CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLE HEADER AT RESORTS WORLD CASTSKILLS SET FOR THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

Monday, June 24, 2019

Star Boxing is pleased to announce the card for CATSKILLS CLASH at Resorts World Catskills on June 28th. The much-anticipated night of fights is expected to be the first of many professional boxing cards at Resorts World Catskills. Fans will enjoy an ABO America’s Championship Triple Header, and a night of fights featuring five undefeated prospects.

2018 Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Fighter of the Year, and undefeated super lightweight, “ACTION” ANTHONY LAUREANO (Hartford, CT 10-0 3KO’s) will look to make it eleven straight victories as he takes on DIEUMERCI “ELEPHANT” NZAU (11-8 8KO’S), fighting out of Silver Spring, Maryland, by way of Kinshasa, Democrat Republic of the Congo. Laureano has looked particularly impressive in his past three victories, earning wide unanimous decisions, highlighted by a disciplined body attack, and an incredible work rate. Nzau’s previous three opponenets have a combined record of 37-4-1 and he hopes that a win against a fighter with the caliber of Laureano will put him on track for even bigger fights in the future. This bout is for the ABO America’s Super Lightweight Championship and is scheduled for 8-rounds.

Power punching East Hartford standout, RICHIE “POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN” RIVERA (11-0 10KO’s) will take on BRIAN “MVP” HOWARD (14-2 11KO’S) fighting out of the fighting city of Philadelphia, by way of Atlanta, Georgia. Rivera has devoured his competition with incredible punching power, which led to Rivera becoming the ABF Continental America’s Cruiserweight and UBF All America Light Heavyweight Champion. Rivera hopes to add the ABO America’s Cruiserweight Championship to his trophy case, but Howard has other plans. The Georgia native is coming off of a big first round KO of Garret Wilson and hopes to repeat his success on June 28th. This is a scheduled 8-round cruiserweight bout.

Making his United Stated debut, #2 rated Irish welterweight sensation, DYLAN “THE REAL DEAL” MORAN (Ireland, 10-0 5KO’s) will look to impress the American fans with his quick hand speed, and power, as he takes on, DENNIS OKOTH (2-2-1 1KO) fighting out of Silver Spring, Maryland, by way of Siaya, Kenya. Moran, having fought in Mexico, the famous York Hall, in Britain, and in his home country of Ireland, is no stranger to getting the job done on the road. The amateur boxing standout and the former kickboxing world champion, Moran, hopes to return to Ireland with the ABO America’s Welterweight Title. This is a scheduled 8-round welterweight bout.

The undercard will feature ROBERT DURAN JR. (3-0 2KO’s), son of the legendary Roberto Duran, who is coming off of a fantastic win at Turning Stone Resort Casino, earlier this month against the previously undefeated Jonathan Pierre. Duran Jr. will face off against JERMAINE CORLEY (1-6 1KO) of Rochester New York. This will be a 4-round welterweight scrap. In the opening bout of the evening, LAWRENCE KING (1-0 1KO) who works as the Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy, will be making his second professional appearance against PEREZ AUGHTRY (0-1) of Buffalo, in a 4-round cruiserweight bout.

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGAURDIA had this to say about the ABO Triple Header, “Boxing fans are in for a real treat on June 28th, as we are featuring three extremely skilled, young, and up and coming prospects. Laureano has never disappointed as he always brings all out action from the opening to the closing bell. Rivera has only ever been in exciting fights, and with power in both hands, you will not want to miss one second of this bout. Moran, an Irish standout, is making his US debut, and we have very high hopes for him and what the future holds. This will be a fun night of fights, be sure to get your tickets now.”

Catskills Clash is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

AMIR KHAN V NEERAJ GOYAT LANDMARK SHOWDOWN IN JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA, WILL BE BROADCAST EXCLUSIVELY LIVE IN THE UK ON CHANNEL 5

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (24 June 2019) Two-Time World Champion and boxing star Amir Khan’s history making fight against Neeraj Goyat at the King Abdullah Sports Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday 12th July will be broadcast exclusively live in the UK on free-to-air Channel 5.

Khan versus Goyat headlines a fantastic all-action championship fight card that includes heavyweight star Hughie Fury in a sensational showdown with Former World Champion Samuel Peter plus Prince Patel and Dave Penasola both in title fights.

British-Pakistani hero Khan and India’s star Goyat make history when the two nations meet in the boxing ring for the first time ever with the specially commissioned World Boxing Council (WBC) Pearl Welterweight Championship on the line.

The Bolton star promises a feast from the Middle East when he break down frontiers in the event titled ‘Nations Connect’ as he makes his debut in the MENA region and in the The Kingdom for the first time in his illustrious 14 year, 38 fight pro career.

This will also be Khan’s first terrestrial TV appearance since 2010, as Channel 5 televise his ground-breaking fight to millions with the undercard also featuring on free-to-air 5 Spike in nearly 5 hours of live boxing action.

‘It’s an honour to be fighting in The Kingdom during the Saudi Seasons and a big thank you to GSA for making this happen.  I can’t wait to deliver a world class performance here and really put Saudi Arabia on the map as a boxing destination to rival any of the big fights cities in the World.  It’s been a dream of mine to fight here for many years and I finally get to share my talent and spread boxing to new territories across the world just as Muhammad Ali did.  Importantly, this fight against Neeraj is sending a message that our two nations, Pakistan and India, can connect in the boxing ring and through the power of sport we can send out a positive message.” Said Khan.

Khan is hungry to get back in the ring following his controversial sixth round stoppage loss to WBO welterweight boss and pound-for-pound contender Terence Crawford in April and knows that a victory in Jeddah could lead to a blockbuster showdown with the legendary eight-division World Champion Manny Pacquiao.

In the opposing corner stands Indian trailblazer Neeraj Goyat who will be eager to replicate his compatriots’ recent conquest over sporting rivals Pakistan at the Cricket World Cup.

The 27 year old former Commonwealth Youth medallist and World Youth and Military Games rep topped the bill in India’s first professional promotion in May 2015, when he also became the first from his nation to contest and win a pro title by scalping Nelson Gulpe for the WBC Asian crown. A brace of successful defences led to Goyat being honoured as the WBC’s Asian Honorary Fighter of the Year in 2017 plus the first Indian to crack the WBC world ratings.

Though winless in his opening four paid starts (two draws, all overseas), the 5ft 7 ½ in terror has triumphed in 11 of his last 12 – the sole stain a points loss to a Mexican in Mexico. He is also undefeated in MMA combat and yet to be stopped.

Nevertheless, ‘King Khan’ is promising to leave the man from the state of Haryana in a proper state before advancing to what could be an All-Asian career finale against ex-gym mate and eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao from the Phillipines.

‘End of this year, early next year, I want to make a big name world title challenge and there’s a strong possibility it could be here in Saudi Arabia against Pacquiao,’ claims Khan who will be coached for the first time by ex-WBA super-bantam boss Clarence ‘Bones’ Adams and Alex Ariza.

‘Hopefully, Manny beats up Keith Thurman the week after my fight and we’ll see what happens.

‘A fight between us would set-up boxing in the Middle East forever and lead to multiple championship fights taking place in the region. I intend being at the forefront.’

Chief support pitches world grade heavyweights from past and present when undefeated former British champion Hughie Fury, 24, who features courtesy of Hennessy Sports and Channel 5, steps up against one-time WBC World Champion Samuel Peter in a mouthwatering championship title contest to be announced.

England’s first ever World Youth super-heavyweight champion, the 6ft 6in ‘Fists of Fury’ has already showcased his considerable skills in eight countries since debuting as a pro, aged 18, in March 2013. However, this will be his first exposure in the MENA region and he is promising to expand his fan base by delivering a sparkling performance.

‘I’ve a job to do and it’ll get done. Samuel Peter is a seriously solid, dangerous veteran who can clearly punch but I relish the challenge,’ said Fury who is trained by his father Peter.

He added, ’It’s always great to visit different places and get my name around the World. I’m expecting a great atmosphere. There’s only one thing on my mind, getting to the very top, winning the world title.

Peter, the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’, is a 2000 Sydney Olympian, now in his 19thyear as a pro.  The powerhouse has clattered 31 victims inside schedule whilst compiling a stellar 38-7 CV. The solid 6ft 2in, 19stone plus African reigned on the WBC throne for seven months in 2008 and has swapped leather with four fellow world champions, including both Klitschko brothers. He famously flattened Wladimir three times before dropping a close, contentious 12 round decision in 2005.

Following a break, Samuel returned in Mexico in February and has already bombed out two foes inside the opening frame. Fury will need to bring his A-game if he hopes to advance above his ranking of 14 with the IBF.

To add further garnish to the bill, Acton pantomime villain Prince Patel attempts to become the first fighter of Indian heritage to claim a boxing world title when he collides with violent Venezuelan Michell Banquez for the Vacant IBO Bantamweight belt.

It’s a genuine toss-up between boxers who both boast 18 wins from 19 outings – Patel’s blemish a draw, Banquez’s an 11 round points loss in Chile – and both claim 13 stoppage wins.

The punching Prince, a three-time national junior champion and 2013 Senior ABA finalist, is as awkward inside the ropes as he is beyond. Love him or loathe him, he’s hard to ignore.

Nevertheless, 28 year old banger Banquez, known as ‘El Arsenal’ has never been stopped and promises to pose stern resistance.

DUBOIS: GORMAN IS BORING

DANIEL DUBOIS HAS questioned the entertainment value of fights involving his forthcoming opponent Nathan Gorman.

Gorman, by his own admission, has laboured somewhat to points victories in his last three fights, but mitigates this by pointing out that he has suffered with opponent withdrawals and short notice changes, therefore affecting his level of motivation.

Dubois views the matter differently and insists his July 13 British heavyweight title opposition will never deliver the thrills and spills.

“Well, this sort of fighter will never be entertaining, it is just the way he is,” reasoned the London fighter. “One thing I can tell you is he is never going to be exciting to watch.”

The same certainly cannot be said for Dubois, with his 10 KOs from 11 pro fights. The 21-year-old even entered into a couple of wild swing-offs with his last opponent, Richard Lartey, before stopping the Ghanaian in the fourth.

Dubois cannot fathom what the thought process was behind being drawn into a shootout.

“To be honest, I don’t know,” he admitted. “The spirit and energy told me to do that and I went out and did it. The only thing I can say about that fight is I got a win.”

Meanwhile, Dubois went on to borrow the words of Lartey when assessing the merits of Gorman as an opponent and whether he is the Nantwich man’s toughest assignment to date.

“Yes, as my last opponent said, he is baby food and this guy has definitely been on that.”

Super-flyweight sensation Sunny Edwards meets Mexican Hiram Gallardo for the vacant IBF super-flyweight title. WBO super-featherweight champion Archie Sharp risks his crown against Jordan McCorry. Returning after an impressive debut is Kent bantamweight Dennis McCann. THORSLUND DOMINATES ADAMS TO DEFEND WBO WORLD TITLE

Dina Thorslund (14-0, 6 KOs) defended her WBO Female World Super Bantamweight title with a dominant display against mandatory challenger April Adams (11-2-1, 4 KOs) last night at the Forum Horsens in Denmark.

The Danish champion showed her class, winning every round on all three of the judges’ scorecards. She also showed her compassion by sparing a visibly stunned Adams in the final seconds of the tenth round, stepping back with smile and allowing the Australian challenger to finish the fight on her feet.

“I feel like I was in control for the whole fight,” said Thorslund following her second successive World title defence. “There wasn’t one second where I felt in doubt. It was a hard physical battle. April is a tough girl. She came here to win. I feel good and I’m very happy to have defended my belt in such a good fight.”

After the bout, Thorslund and her promoter Nisse Sauerland discussed future plans for the Danish star, including a move up in weight with a fight against WBO World Featherweight Champion Heather Hardy topping their wish list.

“That was a fantastic performance from Dina,” said Sauerland. “She showed tonight why she is one of the most exciting female fighters in the world. There are a lot of big opportunities for her now including a move up to featherweight and a fight with Heather Hardy. That would be huge in Denmark or America.”

“I want to be the best and that involves moving up in weight and collecting more titles,” said Thorslund. “I am ready to face anyone and that includes Hardy.”

Freddie Roach: “Lobster Thurmandor will be the July 20 Special

LOS ANGELES (June 22, 2019) — The reigning Fighter of the Decade and boxer laureate, Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs), is back and the sports world is for the better because of it.  One week removed from his landing to a throng of fans and media at LAX, Manny has exceeded everyone’s expectations in training camp for his challenge of undefeated WBA welterweight super champion Keith “One Time” Thurman — which may be the only normal thing about his current training camp.  Three days in, he was displaying a chiseled physique and a six pack of abs.  Forty may just be a number to Manny but his trainer, World-Famous Freddie Roach, wouldn’t be surprised if Thurman became Manny’s fortieth knockout victim.

“If Thurman comes straight in and goes after Manny, which I think he will, he is going to be cooked.  Chef Manny will be serving him up on a platter like Lobster Thurmandor,” said Roach.

Boxing’s only eight-division world champion and the Philippines’ national treasure, Amazin’ Manny is preparing for his third world championship fight in the past 12 months.  He and Thurman (29-0, 22 KOs), from Clearwater, Florida, who is 10 years Manny’s junior, will battle in a welterweight world title attraction that headlines a PBC on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View event, Saturday, July 20, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, beginning at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

JERMELL CHARLO VS. JORGE COTA FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (June 21, 2019) – Former world champion Jermell Charlo and hard hitting Jorge Cota went face-to-face at the final press conference on Friday before their main event showdown that headlines FOX PBC Fight Night live on FOX and FOX Deportes this Sunday night from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Friday’s press conference also featured former world champions Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux and Julio Ceja, ahead of their WBC Super Bantamweight world title eliminator, plus sensational unbeaten prospect Joey Spencer, who faces Akeem Black as a part of FOX PBC Fight Night on FOX and FOX Deportes beginning at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Lions Only Promotions, TGB Promotions and
Mayweather Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

Charlo and Cota squared off for the first time in front of media Friday, after Cota replaced WBC Super Welterweight Champion Tony Harrison, who was forced to withdraw from his rematch against Charlo due to an ankle injury. Harrison and Charlo plan to have their rematch later this year.

Here is what the fighters had to say from Rhythm & Riffs Lounge at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas:

JERMELL CHARLO

“I’m ready to fight. I’ve been ready to fight since they robbed me of my title. I want my belt back and I want every title in this division. This is my moment, and Cota is in my way.

“I’m always motivated to fight because I love boxing. I want to get in the ring any moment that I can. At the end of the day, I’m here to fight any of the top fighters in this division who will get in there with me.

“I’m thankful for every opportunity that I have to fight. It’s time for me not to just put a show on, but to dominate a guy who thinks he’s going to come in and beat me.

“I’m going to press my action and do anything I have to do to win this fight. If he can hang in there and stand the power and punch output, he can go 12 rounds. I’m not running from anyone.

“I have been going hard in training camp since January. I’ve really been going hard forever. I have a lot to prove and a whole new ambition for this sport. You’re going to see it on Sunday in primetime on FOX.

“The top fighters in the division know what they’re facing in the Charlos. I know (WBA and IBF 154-pound champion) Julian Williams is in-studio, and I’m proud of the way he overcame adversity and did his thing against Jarrett Hurd. He fought that fight the the same way that I would have, he just got there first. Just like him, I’m coming back from adversity to prove a point.

“When the Harrison injury happened I just thought, why is this happening to me again? But we have to go through things like this in our careers. The goal hasn’t changed. The road has changed, but we’ll keep going.”

JORGE COTA

“They told me three weeks ago about the fight and I knew this was a great opportunity that I was going to take advantage of. I’m going to win and then fight for the world title.

“Andy Ruiz had a great victory and it motivated me a lot heading into this fight. Something similar can happen Sunday with me against Charlo. Ruiz showed the underdog can win, so I hope that Charlo is prepared for Sunday.

“I thought Tony Harrison won against Jermell. I thought he boxed very intelligently, took Charlo out of his game plan and that allowed him to win.

“I think Jermell is a boxer who talks too much. He was very serious when we filmed our “Face To Face” show and I think he’s a guy who doesn’t back it up. He may talk tough today, but it’s only going to be the two of us in the ring on Sunday.

“We definitely picked it up in training when I got the call about fighting Charlo. We got intense and there was a lot of added motivation. We did everything we needed to do for this fight.”

GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX

“I’m glad for this opportunity that I have and I’ll always be prepared for any opportunity. I’m going to put on a great performance on Sunday night.

“I’m ready to continue my legacy as a pound-for-pound great and I feel I have the opportunity here. I’m going to be the King of 122-pounds. No one wants to see me in the ring.

“I’ve had a great camp and I’m well-prepared for Sunday night that I’m working towards something big and at the end, I’ll have beaten everyone in the division.

“I know that I’m where the best will fight that best, and that’s what I’m all about. I’m the best out there and I’m here to prove it.”

JULIO CEJA

“I’ve fought on big stages before so this will be nothing new to me. I’m not worried about his name. I’ve just prepared well for a great fighter like I do every fight.

“I’m more prepared for this fight than I ever have been. I’m mentally 100% ready for this challenge and anything that happens in the fight.

“I’m very happy to have this opportunity. We made changes in camp and have been working with the Joel Diaz and his brothers in Indio, California. They’ve helped me a lot and gave me intense training for this fight. I’ll be ready on Sunday night.”

JOEY SPENCER

“On paper he’s my toughest opponent. He’s got the best record of anyone I’ve faced and I just want to keep stepping up and progressing the right way. I know I can knock him out, but I’ll be ready to go six rounds. If I get more experience, I’ll never be mad at that.

“Before my last fight I got sick in training which affected my weight cut, but this time I’m completely healthy, plus I have a new strength and conditioning coach. I’m in the best shape of my life and I’m ready to fire away.”

AKEEM BLACK

“I’ve been training for this since before I even even knew about Joey Spencer. I’ve had a lot of time to watch him and study his fights. I’m going to be ready to show him something he’s never seen.

“Right now, I’m better than I’ve ever been. He’s fought nobody like me and I’ve fought much better competition to him. He’s going to find out on Sunday.”

UNBEATEN HEAVYWEIGHT JONATHAN PALATA SIGNS AND SET FOR HEAVY DUTY CARD

SYDENHAM HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT Jonathan Palata has signed promotional terms with Frank Warren and will make his first appearance under the Queensberry Promotions banner at The O2, London on July 13.

Known as ‘GSP’ (God Speed Palata), the naturally athletic Palata turned professional in May of last year and has since clocked up five wins, with two coming via stoppage.

A 30-fight amateur, Palata won 26, with half his victories clinched by KO while becoming ABA Novice Champion, London ABA Champion, Haringey Box Cup winner and reaching the quarter finals of the Senior ABA’s.

Palata, 30, who trains out of the Peacock Gym in Canning Town, is ready to open a new chapter in his professional story.

“I am very happy about signing with Frank and we are in the big league now, so it is time to perform and come into the light,” he said on signing with the Hall of Fame promoter. “I have been waiting for this and it is what I have been working for.

“I am very excited and very happy,” he added, before considering the fact that he has joined a stable containing the best of British heavyweights in Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Nathan Gorman and Joe Joyce.

“I literally have joined the home of the British heavyweights! Now I need to stand next to them and I don’t think I am far away. Give me another three fights and we will see where we are, but not far off at all.”

Palata will now add his significant weight the card titled ‘Heavy Duty’ at the o2, headlined by the British title showdown between Dubois and Gorman, with Joyce taking another step up against the American former world title challenger Bryant Jennings.

“It will be great and there are big heavyweight fights on there, so it will be a heavy duty night.

“I have got a more aggressive style now and will be going for the stoppages, whereas before I was told just to box. I always perform better against stronger opponents who throw and have more ambition.”

GORMAN: DUBOIS NOT THE FORCE PEOPLE THINK HE IS

NATHAN GORMAN HAS thrown doubt on the reputation of Daniel Dubois as a concussive puncher.

The feuding pair will meet with the British heavyweight title at stake at the o2 Arena on July 13 and most pundits would probably predict any KO finish to be in favour of Dubois.

The young Londoner has wowed the crowds since turning professional in April 2017 and subsequently employed his apparent bludgeoning power to stop 10 of his 11 opponents so far.

Gorman, who knows his forthcoming foe well from their Team GB amateur days, reckons Dubois doesn’t carry the force people believe.

“Yes, I’ve shared the ring with him on numerous occasions,” reflected the 22-year-old pupil of Ricky Hatton. “Yes, it was three or four years ago, but unless he has developed monstrous, monstrous power then nothing really can trouble me.”

Not that Gorman intends to test out his theory regarding the power of Dubois.

“People have yet to see how tough I am,” he added. “I am a very tough man, but there are no awards for being a tough man in boxing, is there? So I will avoid those punches.”
