SIX UNDEFEATED PROSPECTS TAKE CENTER STAGE IN HISTORIC SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION FRIDAY, JUNE 21 LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

NEW YORK – May 24, 2019 – Six talented prospects will each put their undefeated records on the line in the next edition of ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday, June 21 live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT from WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa.

Billed as “Someone’s O Must Go,” the exciting night of fights will feature six boxers with a combined record of 91 wins and no defeats. Since the developmental prospect series debuted in 2001, a total of 186 boxers have lost their undefeated record on ShoBox.

In the main event, southpaw Sebastian Fundora (12-0, 8 KOs) of Coachella, Calif., faces Hector Zepeda (17-0, 4 KOs) from Tijuana, Mexico, in a 10-round super welterweight bout. In the co-feature, Michel Rivera (15-0, 10 KOs) from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic takes on Mexico’s Rene Tellez Giron (13-0, 7 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout. In the telecast opener, Argentina’s Jose Romero (21-0, 7 KOs) battles Yeis Solano (14-0, 10 KOs) of Colombia, also in an eight-round lightweight fight.

“In the 18-year history of ShoBox: The New Generation, we have yet to feature a tripleheader with all young, undefeated prospects who are also making their ShoBox debuts,” said Gordon Hall, Executive Producer of the series since its inception in 2001. “These promising prospects have a combined record of 91-0 and hope to join the current list of 80 fighters who fought on the series and went on to become world champions. This is a show not to be missed.”

The event is promoted by Sampson Boxing in association with Paco Presents. Tickets, starting at $10, are on sale now and available at www.WinnaVegas.com.

“I’m very proud to present these future champions on ShoBox: The New Generation, a show that has built so many careers and champions,” said promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. “It’s very exciting to present so many undefeated fighters against each other in one event. Every one of these fighters are putting their young careers on the line and three of them will move forward and three will step back that night.”

Nicknamed “The Towering Inferno” and trained by his father, the 21-year-old Fundora fought three times in 2018 and has been called the tallest 154-pound boxer in the division’s history. Often holding a five- to eight-inch height advantage over his opponents, Fundora has knocked out his last four opponents and started 2019 in electrifying fashion with a third-round knockout of then 10-0 Donnie Marshall. Nine of his 12 wins have come against opponents with winning records.

“It’s an honor to be the headliner on a ShoBox event,” said Fundora, originally from West Palm Beach, Fla., whose all-action style has been compared to former world champion Antonio Margarito. “My opponent, Hector Zepeda, is from a respected Tijuana boxing family and he will be very tough. A victory over an undefeated fighter like Zepeda will be a big step forward for me. Training is going well, and I’ll be more than ready to give the fans another exciting performance on June 21.”

Also 21-years-old, Zepeda is a busy, five-year veteran who goes by the nickname “Baby” and who fought five times in 2018. His father Ernesto Zepeda is a former professional boxer and he’s trained by noted Mexican trainer Romulo Quirarte. During his career, Ernesto sparred all-time great Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. and Hector is a currently sparring with Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. Zepeda is coming off a unanimous decision win over Giovanny Gonzalez on May 18 in Tijuana. In February, Zepeda scored an eight-round unanimous decision over Jesus Javier Gutierrez Montenegro.

“This is the first opportunity that has been presented to me at this caliber,” Zepeda said. “Fundora is a strong fighter, much taller than most. He loves to exchange blows and I am sure this is going to be a great fight. Training is going great. I am working very hard physically and mentally to leave everything inside the ring June 21. A victory over Fundora on SHOWTIME will open doors, so that a lot of people will know who I am and open the way for better things in my career.”

The 21-year-old Rivera from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a hard-hitting three-year professional fighting for the first time in the United States. Rivera has stopped five of his last six opponents and was last seen scoring a two-round stoppage over Argentina’s Carlos Daniel Cordoba in January. He has faced eight fighters with winning records, including two who were previously undefeated.

“I am super excited to have this opportunity to fight on ShoBox,” Rivera said. “That is where all boxers dream to fight on, especially those with less opportunities like me. My opponent is shorter than me and fights at half-distance and likes to counterattack. He uses his jab a lot and is used to fighting bigger rivals. He’s also more active the first three rounds, then starts to lower the intensity. I need to be aware of his overhand right.”

The 20-year-old Tellez Giron is a native of Queretaro, Mexico. The undefeated slugger known as “El Bravo” is an almost four-year professional with a reputation for fighting in his opponents’ backyard and still coming away victorious. An accomplished amateur, Tellez Giron had 180 amateur fights starting at the age of 12 and was a state, regional and national champion, as well as Golden Gloves champ. He turned pro at the age of 15 and in 2018 traveled to Ukraine where he captured the vacant WBC Youth Silver title. In his last fight, he stopped fellow Mexican Mario Enrique Martinez in two rounds in December of last year. He has faced nine fighters with winning records, including five who were undefeated.

“In reality, to me, this is just another fight,” Tellez Giron said. “I have been in tough fights before and this is nothing new for me. I am aiming for bigger and better things, so I feel very motivated because this is the time to demonstrate what I have and to show everyone what I am made of. Rivera is a strong fighter, who likes to use distance. I also know that he is very disciplined.”

The 23-year-old Romero is a native of Cordoba, Argentina. He won the World Boxing Council Latino Super Featherweight Title in November 2017 and defended it twice. He is also the current Argentina (FAB) Super Featherweight Title and International Boxing Federation Latino Super Featherweight Champion.

“I am a proud champion of Argentina, but now I’m ready to do what so many of my great countrymen have done and bring my skills to the world,” said Romero, fighting for the first time in the U.S. “It is a great honor to fight on SHOWTIME, where so many champions have fought before me. From my pro debut, my promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has promised me this chance and now it’s here. I will not blow it. I am training like all my dreams depend on winning. They do.”

Solano is a 26-year-old native of Monteria, Colombia. The hard-punching Solano is a former World Boxing Association Fedebol Lightweight Champion and in 2012 placed third in the Colombia National Games. In his last fight, he scored a five-round stoppage over Jesus Manuel Sandoval in October 2018. He is currently training at Compton Boxing Gym in Compton, Calif., and is trained by Jose Ponce, Sr. and his son Jose Ponce, Jr.

“I feel very fortunate to have this platform to showcase my talent,” Solano said. “My opponent has an extensive record and I know he’s a good fighter and, like me, I know that he is probably preparing for a war. I look forward to demonstrating all the hard work I am putting in for this fight and at the end of the fight, I will continue to be undefeated.”

Barry Tompkins will call the action from ringside with boxing historian Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

BOXING IS MY WIFE CLAIMS GALAHAD

KID GALAHAD claims that he will bleed boxing if you slice him open.

His day of reckoning to prove he is a cut above comes when the Sheffield boxer challenges IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington (28-0, 6KOs) at First Direct Arena, Leeds on Saturday June 15.

Galahad (26-0, 15 KOs) and trainer Dominic Ingle believe that Warrington might have softened since he became the father to twins last year and started securing his financial future.

Warrington scoffed at the suggestion, but Galahad hit back: “I haven’t got a missus. I am married to boxing.

“I don’t have a life. If you open me up my DNA is boxing. I have no other family or interests. It is pure boxing for me.

“Even on a day off, I pop in the gym or just relax at home. I don’t have many days off.”

In a era where boxers are often fast tracked to the top, it has taken Galahad almost ten years as a professional to get his world title shot after becoming Warrington’s mandatory contender.

Galahad, 29, said: “Boxing isn’t about how fast you get there. It is about staying there for as long as you can and everyone moves at a different pace.

“I have had certain things happen to me, but I have always stayed focused and I am here now so with this opportunity I am not letting it slip away.

“We’re here in 2019 and closing in on a world title. We’re gonna win it and hold it for as long as we can.”

Josh Warrington tops the bill at First Direct Arena, Leeds when he defends his IBF featherweight championship against Kid Galahad on Saturday June 15.

Leading super featherweights Zelfa Barrett and Lyon Woodstock meet in a hotly anticipated clash for the Commonwealth title, with Jason Welborn and JJ Metcalf also vying for the vacant Commonwealth super welterweight championship.

Other fighters confirmed in action on the bill so far include Lyndon Arthur, Alex Dickinson, Tommy Fury, Mark Heffron, Jack McGann and Troy Williamson.

BENN HEADLINES JD NXTGEN SHOW ON JUNE 21

Conor Benn will headline his first ever show when he defends his WBA Continental Welterweight title against Jussi Koivula as the JD NXTGEN series returns to the legendary York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday June 21, shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Benn (14-0, 9 KOs) follows in the footsteps of his father Nigel, a former two-weight World champion, who headlined against Robbie Sims at the famous East London venue back in 1991, and ‘The Destroyer’ is promising to deliver another explosive performance when he meets the 24-6-1 Fin over ten rounds.

“It’s a blessing to be headlining a show this early on in my career,” said Benn. “This is the biggest fight of my career to date and it’s definitely a sign of progress. I’m ready to put on an entertaining performance for all of my fans. Everyone knows what my last couple of fights were like at York Hall, it was madness and there’s going to be fireworks again.

“It’s a legendary East End venue. When you’re in there as a fighter it feels like a jungle. Everyone is packed in and they all want to see blood. There’s no other energy like it, it’s on you and you feel like a gladiator. This is about putting on another performance for my supporters and that’s exactly what I’m going to do on June 21.

“It isn’t going to get much worse than the first Peynaud fight, that was an absolute nightmare. It was scarring. I went through the trenches and I’ve never felt anything like that – the heat and fans screaming – it’s like they’re in your corner. I’m ready to go again and put on a beautiful display this time around.”

Bermondsey Super-Welterweight Ted Cheeseman (15-1, 9 KOs) returns to make the first defence of his British title after suffering a tough first career loss to European champion Sergio Garcia earlier in the year.  ‘The Big Cheese’ is determined to bounce back with a win as he eyes a huge domestic showdown with Preston’s Scott Fitzgerald.

Crystal Palace Light-Heavyweight Craig Richards (14-1, 8 KOs) settled his long-standing feud with Jake Ball in February, clinically stopping his rival in three rounds at The O2 after flooring the Surrey man in each round on his way to claiming the WBA Continental title.

‘Spider’ jumps straight back into another tasty domestic showdown as he takes on undefeated former Southern Area champion Andre Sterling (10-0, 4 KOs) in an intriguing all-London Final Eliminator for the prestigious Lord Lonsdale Light-Heavyweight belt.

Crowthorne Super-Featherweight Charles Frankham (1-0) looks to make if two wins from two fights after making a winning start to life in the professional ranks last week, outpointing Tzemal Xouseinoglou on his long-awaited debut at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham.

Fast-rising Watford Bantamweight talent Shannon Courtenay (2-0) steps up to take part in her first six round contest after racking up wins against Cristina Busuioc at the Copper Box Arena and Roz Silyanova at The O2 last time out.

Former Commonwealth Super-Featherweight champion Reece Bellotti (13-2, 11 KOs) steps through the ropes for the first time since his British title loss to Ryan Walsh on the Dillian Whyte vs. Derek Chisora 2 undercard in December determined to return to winning ways.

Ohio Lightweight prospect Otha Jones III (1-0) takes part in his second professional contest after outpointing Giorgi Gelashvili on his pro debut at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York in March.

Tickets priced £40, £70 and £130 VIP are available to purchase NOW via StubHub (www.stubhub.co.uk).

Misael Lopez signs with Sugar’s Boxing, to return in the summer

++For Immediate Release++ LAS VEGAS – Rising super featherweight prospect Misael Lopez (11-0) has signed a multi-year managerial contract with Sugar’s Boxing and Greg Hannely. The exciting Lopez was born in the boxing rich state of Sonora in Mexico and raised in Denver, Colorado.

He burst onto the scene last year when he upset James Wilkins on the popular ShoBox series.  Wilkins was heavily favored but an unfazed Lopez rose to the occasion to secure the unanimous decision victory.

“Last September I was supposed to fight Wilkins in Colorado and then it got hyped up and turned into a bigger fight,” explained Lopez. “I ended up fighting him on ShoBox and I turned into the B side. Paulie Malignaggi and Roy Jones were both backing him up. In fact, Roy still trains him and I upset him on television for everyone to see.”

The 23-year-old has picked up two more wins since then and believes that he has grown a lot as a fighter from that experience. He also learned that the pressure doesn’t get to him and the he rises to the occasion as the stakes get higher.

“I learned a lot in that fight. I got caught with a nice shot in the 7th round. I was playing around and learned not to do that. I also know that I don’t get scared by the cameras The big stage doesn’t scare me. I don’t get intimated by any of that,” he explained.

Lopez grew up in a fighting family.  His father served as a sparring partner for Donald Camarena who faced fighters such as Tim Bradley and Malignaggi.  He said that in addition to his father’s influence, he has studied many of the top fighters of the recent past.

“I watched a lot of (Julio Cesar) Chavez. I like his inside game a lot. I also like to watch Canelo (Alvarez). I think he has developed a lot as a fighter. and of course (Floyd) Mayweather. I really respect his defense,” Lopez stated.

He will be relocating to Las Vegas in the very near future and expects to be back in the ring in the summer.  Las Vegas has some of the best sparring in the country and Lopez can’t wait to get to work in his new home.

“I should be there in less than a month and be ready to work. I was out there for the Robert Easter-Rances Barthelemy fight but I haven’t really been out there to box yet,” said Lopez.

“My father has trained me since I was a kid and got me to 11-0 but now we know that now it is time to come out and take it to the next level. There isn’t a lot more to do here in Denver and Vegas is the fight capital so I will be training with the best of the best,” said Lopez who plans on being a fan friendly fighter.

“I think the most exciting thing about me is that I bring that Mexican aggressive style but I am not going to be sloppy. A lot of Mexicans go straight forward but I also have defense. That is why I say I studied a lot of Chavez and Maywather. Fans can expect to see a lot of excitement and also technical skills when I am in the ring.”

“As Britain takes over the Mecca of boxing next week in NY, it’s only right that one of our biggest rising stars gets the chance to shine,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Joshua Buatsi has been sensational since turning professional and next week gets the chance to make his US debut on the biggest stage of all. We expect a tough challenge from Periban who will have big support at the arena from the Mexican fans hoping Andy Ruiz can make history for his country. Periban has mixed in great company and this is the perfect test for Josh as he closes in at shot at the World title. Next week is going to be special in so many ways, I can’t wait!”

GORMAN: I JUST WANT TO PUNCH HIS HEAD IN

NATHAN GORMAN INSISTS he will render the judges unemployed when he makes his British title challenge against Daniel Dubois on July 13.

The young heavyweight giants collide at The O2, London on a card titled as ‘Heavy Duty’, which also features Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce, who impressively demolished Alexander Ustinov on Saturday in Stevenage.

That Gorman is emphatically predicting a KO victory for himself might come as a surprise to some, who believe the 22-year-old to be the more technical operator who relies more on skill than bludgeoning power.

However, the protégé of Ricky Hatton believes the cards will not be called for once he and the KO artist from the Peacock Gym get down to business.

“I can’t say too much about what we’ve been working on in the gym but we’ve been doing a lot of things that will end up with you seeing a different Nathan Gorman come July 13,” revealed the 16-0 man, adding that a personal dislike between the pair could come into play.

“I don’t believe it will go to points, I really don’t. We’re rivals, he doesn’t like me and I don’t like him and we are going to get down to business.

“I think we will just get in the middle of the ring and throw bombs. He hasn’t got the style to jab and move and I want to punch his head in.”

That being said, Gorman acknowledges that he could well switch back to his customary ringcraft should the situation demand.

“Listen, I’m not going to lose that and it is still in my locker. If it comes down to that then I can revert to that, but there will be exciting moments when people will be on the edge of their seats.”

Daniel Franco sues Roc Nation

Daniel Franco has sued Roc Nation Sports over brain injuries he suffered in 2018, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

Franco filed suit Tuesday in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, seeking unspecified damages, claiming that Roc Nation Sports was negligent for booking him in three fights in 79 days despite knowing he was not physically fit to compete in that many bouts in such a short period.

“The actions of Defendants were an extreme departure from what a reasonably careful person or corporation would do in the same situation to prevent harm to its boxers,” said the lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN. “Roc Nation and other Defendants recklessly disregarded the health and safety of Franco.”

“Representatives from Roc Nation stated that Franco must go forward with the fight and stated that if Franco pulled out of the fight, Franco would have difficulty securing future fights,” the lawsuit said.

“Less than one month later on June 10, 2017, Roc Nation demanded that Franco fight hard-punching boxer Jose Haro in Sloan, Iowa. … Roc Nation knew, or should have known, that Franco was not in any condition to fight Haro given that this would be the third fight in 79 days,” the lawsuit said. “Roc Nation knew, or should have known, that fighting Haro on June 10, 2017 put Franco at a high risk of harm and danger given the Martin knockout and the high number of fights. Defendants acted wrongfully and negligently when they scheduled and promoted the June 10, 2017 fight so soon after the other two fights, including the Martin knockout. Defendants also did not adequately ensure that Franco received appropriate medical clearance prior to scheduling the June 10, 2017 fight.”

The suit alleges that Franco’s two skull fractures and brain bleed “likely occurred in the two fights before the June 10, 2017 fight. Had an MRI or brain imaging been performed, the fractures and hemorrhage would have been discovered prior to the June 10, 2017 fight, necessitating a cancellation of the June 17, 2017 fight.”

The suit continued, “As a result of the traumatic brain injury, Franco still suffers from devastating neurological and cognitive deficits, including difficulty with speech, motor function, ambulation and balance problems, numbness and weakness throughout the entire right side of Franco’s body, and inability to perform activities of daily living.”

Attorney Dan Hodes, who is representing Franco, told ESPN that he would let a jury decide the damages at trial.

“Daniel’s life as he knew it has been taken from him. Is that life valued at $10 million? Or $50 million? We’ll let our jury decide that,” Hodes said.

HANEY VS. MORAN FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Ahead of Saturday’s stacked Memorial Day weekend boxing event live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK, the fighters gathered in front of media at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, for the final press conference.

**TICKETS FOR MAY 25 FEATURING DEVIN HANEY ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**

On Saturday evening, undefeated Lightweight sensation Devin Haney (21-0, 13 KOs) of Las Vegas will make his DAZN debut against Mexico’s Antonio Moran (24-3, 17 KOs) in the scheduled 12-round main event. The co-feature of the evening will feature Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic (7-0, 5 KOs) taking on Gregory Corbin (15-1, 9 KOs) of Dallas, Texas, in a Heavyweight title scheduled for 10 rounds. Kicking off the action at 9:00 p.m. ET on DAZN, Michael Hunter (16-1, 11 KOs) of Las Vegas will look to extend his unbeaten streak at heavyweight when he faces off against Brazil’s Fabio Maldonado (26-2, 25 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round affair.

Three undercard bouts will air on DAZN beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET, prior to the main card at 9:00 p.m. ET. In anticipation of Saturday’s fights, Matchroom Boxing USA’s Eddie Hearn and the main card fighters spoke to a packed room of media in Maryland.

Devin Haney

“I want to thank God, my dad, my team, Matchroom Boxing and DAZN. I had a wonderful training camp. I am feeling strong and ready. This is going to be my big breakout fight. I’m feeling it and I am excited to do it on DAZN. I am going to show the world who I am. Moran put up a great fight with Jose Pedraza but I’m not Pedraza. I’m different. I am going to prove it on Saturday and show you something that you have never seen before – especially from a 20-year-old.”

Antonio Moran

“I am really excited for this weekend’s fight. I am very excited, we had a great training camp in Mexico. We trained 9,000 feet up in the mountains. I am thankful to Matchroom and DAZN. I am planning to put all that hard work on the line on Saturday.”

Filip Hrgovic

“I am very glad to be part of this great event. I would like to thank my promoters and DAZN. I am excited for my American debut. It is an honor for me to fight here. For those who do not know, I come from Croatia, a small country in Europe. On Saturday night, I want to make my country proud.”

Michael Hunter

“I would like to thank Matchroom, DAZN and all of the other people who have helped me in my career. I am excited to once again fight in the DMV and fight at MGM. I have a determination about me. I refuse to be moved and I am excited to show all the fans what I have to prove in the heavyweight division.”

Eddie Hearn

On the Heavyweight division: “The heavyweight division is in a great place and is bigger than ever. You have the biggest and best heavyweight in the world Anthony Joshua making his U.S. debut next weekend on DAZN against Andy Ruiz, Jr. You have Deontay Wilder with another piece of the heavyweight championship and he just scored a brilliant knockout over Dominic Breazeale last weekend. There’s former champion Tyson Fury fighting again soon. It’s a great time for the heavyweight division. But this weekend we have Michael Hunter. He is a guy who refuses to say no – he takes fights on short notice, he fights anyone you put in front of him. He is a guy who is determined to get a title shot sooner rather than later and I think he is going to prove this weekend why he is deserving of that shot.”

On Devin Haney: “I am proud to stand here today as Devin Haney’s promoter. Not only do I think he is one of the best young fighters in the world, but he is also a great man and a good ambassador for the sport. He is inspiring a generation of kids coming up and he shows them what is right and how to conduct themselves. Well done to his father Bill for raising a great young man, he is a fighter I would never worry if he is training and working hard and staying on the straight and narrow. He is a great kid and the talent he possesses is different. He is 20-years-old, just 20! He is well beyond his years. Devin has a real tough fight this weekend in Antonio Moran and he needs to prove his abilities. Devin’s talent is incredible. He has skills to burn. He has all it takes to be the next biggest fighter in the United States.”

Tickets are priced at $40, $80, $150 and $250 (plus fees) and are on sale now at this link: https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/15005688E0B851B0

He was the champion of Kazakhstan Champion of “Spartakiada Kazakhstan”, as well as Champion of International Tournament in Albania, Simkent, Almaty, Belarus, Finland, Azerbaijnan, and Kingistan.

Rakhmankul is coming off a 3rd round stoppage over Brandon Adams on March 16th in Hollywood, California.

He is now being trained by Hall of Fame trainer Buddy McGirt.

“Saga is a special fighter! Buddy McGirt told me he had a fighter he wanted me to take a look at, and it didn’t take very long for me to realize that this young man has talent that can’t be taught. KOROBOV CAMP DEMANDS INVESTIGATION

The team representing WBC #14-rated middleweight Matvey Korobov have sent a letter to the Attorney General and Governor of Virginia, requesting they open an investigation into Korobov’s controversial majority draw last Saturday (May 11) against Virginia-based fighter Immanuwel Aleem and several relevant “surrounding incidents.”

Leon Margules, attorney for Team Korobov, sent the letter on behalf of the fighter, along with several supporting pieces of evidence, to Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring and Governor Ralph Northam.

In it, Margules points out what he alleges is a conflict of interest in that the two Virginia-based judges, Mark D’Attilio and Brian Costello who both questionably ruled the bout a draw at 95-95, are members of the state’s Boxing, Martial Arts, and Professional Wrestling Advisory Board responsible for selecting each fight’s judges and licensing fighters.

Costello, in fact, is the Board’s Chairperson.

And thus, two members of the body responsible for appointing a fight’s judges appointed themselves and a relatively inexperienced referee (Michelle Myers) from Virginia to officiate a nationally televised bout featuring a fighter from their home state, against Korobov, a Russian living in Florida.

It then questions why, of the three televised fights, this was the only one carried out like this, with non-neutral officials.

The letter also references the original scorecard provided to media, that showed Korobov as a majority decision winner, as well as the same scorecard 20 minutes later, with D’Attilio’s round 10 Korobov score scratched out and changed from a 10 to a 9, transforming the outcome to a majority draw.

A further point of contention is the judging performance of the two Virginia-based judges, who scored the fight a draw when a Korobov victory was almost universally agreed upon by the boxing media and fans, post-fight.

To most, Korobov appeared to win the first seven rounds handily and hurt Aleem badly in round six before Aleem mounted a minor comeback in the last two or three rounds. At the final bell, Korobov enjoyed a sizeable advantage in landed punches (according to CompuBox statistics, Korobov landed 154 punches out of 417 thrown (37%), while Aleem landed 119 shots out of 630 [19%]).

Respected boxing official and unofficial judge for the contest, Larry Hazard Sr., scored the fight 97-92.

A long list of fans on social media voicing suspected corruption is also attached.

Margules’ letter also points out what many consider a missed knockdown by Referee Myers in round four, when Korobov sent Aleem down with a counter right hand only to have her rule it a foul incorrectly.

Team Korobov say they are hoping the state will find a solution for this unfortunate situation to prevent another black eye for boxing and a “chilling effect” on fighters coming to fight in Virginia.

HEAVY DUTY ADDITIONS FOR JULY 13

THE HEADLINERS ON the July 13 ‘Heavy Duty’ blockbuster at The O2, London will be supported by a weighty undercard featuring genuine contenders and richly talented prospects.

Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman take top billing with their hugely anticipated collision with the British heavyweight title at stake. The two top young heavies in the business are being backed up by another headline act in the shape of Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce pushing himself into double figures as a professional.

Liam Williams will be looking to put himself back into the world title mix at the o2, with the two-weight British champion back in action after two massively impressive middleweight performances against Mark Heffron and Joe Mullender.

Sunny Edwards now features in the WBO world rankings at super flyweight and the younger half of the affectionately dubbed ‘Croydon Klitschkos’ will be seeking to bolster his position with another punch-perfect display.

WBO European super featherweight champion Archie Sharp is also on the bill bidding to build on his standout win over Lyon Woodstock back October, having returned from injury to demolish Sergio Gonzalez in two rounds in a Wembley tune-up in April.

With Zelfa Barrett and Woodstock clashing in Leeds on June 15, Sharp will be looking to once again put his own marker down in what is an ultra-competitive division in this country.

The 6ft1″ Hamza Sheeraz is given the opportunity to continue building his formidable reputation as a super welterweight of great promise at the age of just 19.

Sheeraz will enter into his ninth professional fight at the o2, while super bantamweight southpaw Jake Pettitt will be looking to move to 6-0 on the night.

Explosive Albanian Florian Marku also joins the party, with the 3-0 (3 KOs) welterweight who enjoys a passionate following in London looking to maintain his 100 per cent stoppage ratio on the big stage. The 26-year-old has not been extended beyond 4mins 1 sec in his short professional career to date.

Another one not known to hang about is Portsmouth lightweight Mark Chamberlain. ‘Da Bomb’, as the 20-year-old has christened himself, has a professional record consisting of two fights, with just 1min 36 secs spent in combat.

Dennis ‘The Menace’ McCann got his debut done and dusted in less than two minutes at Stevenage last weekend with an eye-catching performance captured by BT Sport. The 18-year-old goes again at the o2 Arena in a swift return to the ring.

His teammate at the iBox Gym in Bromley and three-time national champion, Mickey Burke Jr, makes his professional debut and is certainly one to watch with his all-action approach.

More key announcements for this huge night of boxing will follow shortly, including the addition of a new signing, so keep an eye out across the Frank Warren social media channels for further updates.

TAYLOR – YOU COULDN’T WRITE A BETTER SCRIPT, THIS IS A DREAM!

Katie Taylor says her undisputed Lightweight World title clash with Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday June 1, shown live on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK, will be the “toughest fight” of her career.

Taylor added the WBO title to her IBF and WBA crowns in March, halting Brazil’s Rose Volante in the ninth round in Philadelphia, and now the Irish sensation has the opportunity to fulfil her goal of becoming undisputed ruler when she meets long-reigning WBC champion Persoon in a landmark moment for women’s boxing.

Persoon has held the WBC strap since 2014, making nine defences during that time, and will look to cement herself as the number one female 135lbs fighter on the planet when she fights in America for the first time next week. Taylor has prepared for ten hard rounds with her Belgian opponent who holds an impressive career record of 43 wins and just one loss.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to have the chance to become the undisputed champion,” said Taylor. “Every day in camp has been 100% focused on the task at hand so I won’t sit back and think about it until I’ve actually achieved it as that’s what I am like.

“The chance to fight for the four World titles and the Ring Magazine belt at the Mecca of boxing, MSG, I don’t think you could write a better script, it’s an absolute dream. Persoon is recognised as one of the best in the world pound-for-pound and has been the WBC champ now for over five years so it’s the best against the best. This is huge for women’s boxing.

“This fight is going to be the toughest of my career so far, Delfine is a fantastic champion, she’s got 43 wins and just one loss, she’s been a long-reigning champion and she’s a fantastic person. I know that this is going to be tough and that’s why I’ve trained so hard and had a tough camp as I know that this is so big for me, not just for the immediate success but for my future plans.

“I think it’s going to be a really hard fight. I’ve watched clips of her and she’s very tall and awkward, she punches non-stop for the ten rounds and I think it’s going to be a very physical fight. It’s a huge challenge but the one that I’ve wanted. She’ll bring the best out of me as I have the utmost respect for her and we’re going to lay it all on the line and may the best girl win. The famous green belt and the Ring Magazine belts being on the line is just amazing.”
Taylor and Persoon clash on a huge night of action at MSG where Anthony Johua’s World title defence against Andy Ruiz Jr. is supported by Callum Smith defending his WBA World ‘Super’, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine Super-Middleweight titles against Hassan N’Dam, Josh Kelly making his US debut as he defends his WBA International Welterweight title against Philadelphia’s Ray Robinson and Chris Algieri defending his WBO International title against Britain’s Tommy Coyle in a crunch Super-Lightweight showdown – with more exciting undercard additions announced this week.

INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME INDUCTION WEEKEND UNDERCARD BOUTS ANNOUNCED

New York, May 23, 2019

International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend is right around the corner and STAR BOXING is pleased to announce the undercard for the highly anticipated event, set to take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino on June 7th. The main event features six-time world champion, and the last Undisputed Welterweight Champion, ZAB “SUPER” JUDAH (44-9 30KO’s) against New York knockout artist, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (23-1 19KO’s). The two will do battle in a 12-round bout, with the vacant NABA Super Lightweight Title up for grabs. In the co-feature, #8 WBA rated, undefeated Frenchman, DAVID PAPOT (22-0 3KO’s) will face veteran, JAMES “BUDDY” MCGIRT JR. (27-3-1 14KO’s), son of Long Island’s first world champion “BUDDY” MCGIRT, for the WBA Intercontinental and WBO International Middleweight Titles in a 12-round bout, who is being inducted to the Hall of Fame during the fight week induction ceremony.

The undercard will feature five undefeated fighters, including ROBERT DURAN JR. (Plantation, FL 2-0, 2KO), son of the legendary, “Mano de Piedra,” ROBERTO DURAN, Italy’s “SUPER” MARIO ALFANO (14-0-1 3KO’s), Long Island’s WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (Huntington, NY 9-0 4KO’s), up and coming welterweight BOUBACAR SYLLA (Cincinnati, OH 9-0 7KO’s), Vero Beach Florida native, JONATHAN PIERRE (3-0) and cruiserweight ALEX VANASSE (4-0 4KO’s).

In an 8-round lightweight bout, Italian sensation, “SUPER” MARIO ALFANO will be making his United States debut against a tough opponent in LAVISAS “RED” WILLIAMS (Rochester, NY 8-1-1 3KO’s). The 28-year-old Italian earned the Italian National Super Featherweight Title in 2016, and successfully defended it in the same year. Alfano comes to the USA with the hopes that being seen on a world stage will expedite his opportunity at cracking into the upper level of the super featherweight/lightweight rankings. Williams is looking to avenge the first loss of his career at the hands of O’Shaquie Foster, knowing that a win against an undefeated fighter in Alfano will be one of, if not the best, of his young career.

Star Boxing’s undefeated, rising super middleweight, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (9-0 4KO’s) is a highly-regarded prospect that many believe may be a future world champion. He is coming off a 12 month layoff due to an injured hand. Toussaint has developed into a well-rounded fighter and his last 4 fights have been via TKO’s. Opposing the Haitian born Toussaint will be LUCIUS “BULLDOG” JOHNSON (Compton, CA, 4-5-1 3KO’S). Johnson has a deceiving record, with combined opponent record of 62-7-6. Toussaint will be the seventh undefeated fighter that Johnson will take on. This scheduled 6-round super middleweight bout is expected to be a thriller.

The Sengalese welterweight, now fighting and training out of Cincinnati, Ohio, BOUBACAR SYLLA (9-0 7KO’s) will be fighting in New York for the first time, having recently defeated Brooklyn prospect, Marlon Brown. The 6’0″ prospect was born in Dakar, Senegal and will be campaigning at the 147 lb. division as the 24-year-old continues to rise the ranks. He will face tough Texan MARQUIS “THE HAWK” HAWTHORNE (7-10 1KO). Hawthorne has faced almost exclusively highly rated prospects in his career, with a combined opponent record of 96-27-5, of which twelve of his seventeen opponents have been undefeated. He recently handed highly regarded prospect Ronnie Austion his first loss in a massive upset this past January. This bout is scheduled for 6 rounds in the welterweight division.

In a special attraction battle of undefeated fighters, ROBERT DURAN JR. (2-0 2KO), son of boxing legend, ROBERTO DURAN, will step in for his third professional bout, against JONATHAN PIERRE (3-0), in a four round welterweight bout. No-one has been able to take Duran Jr. the full distance as his two wins have come by TKO, and Duran has the added benefit of having already fought on a big stage when he shined on ESPN + in his last bout. Pierre plans to be unphased by the Duran mystique, and says he will continue on his undefeated path, with a fourth victory against the son of the boxing legend.

In an interesting New York scrap, Undefeated, ALEX “LIGHTS OUT” VANASSE (Carmel, NY 4-0 4KO) will take on ERIC ABRAHAM (Schenectady, NY 5-4 2KO’s) in a 4-round cruiserweight showdown.

FURY: I WOULDN’T LET DUBOIS AND GORMAN FIGHT EACH OTHER

LINEAL heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is shocked that the sensational heavyweight prospects Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman are meeting so early in their careers.

The young guns clash for the vacant British heavyweight title on Frank Warren’s ‘Heavy Duty’ card at The O2, London on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) are both tipped to reach the top by Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren, who insists he that defeat will not spell the end for the loser.

Fury who fights Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas next month is sure to be ringside and has been training alongside Gorman in Manchester.

He said: “It’s a good fight and if it was up to me, I wouldn’t let them fight each other because they are both young and unbeaten prospects.”

Also on the card is Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce (9-0, 9KOs), another world class prospect who could face the winner later this year.

Fury added: “I study heavyweight boxing and they are all good lads. I’ve sparred with Joe, Dubois and Gorman.

BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHTS RULE THE WORLD, SAYS HATTON

RICKY HATTON believes the mouth-watering clash between Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman proves the strength of British heavyweight boxing.

Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Hatton trained Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) meet for the vacant British championship in one of the most significant domestic fights in recent years at The O2, London on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

The winner will go soaring up the world rankings. And with both men in their early twenties promoter Frank Warren insists he will rebuild the loser and get him back on the title trail.

Tyson Fury is the lineal champion and Anthony Joshua holds the IBF, WBA and WBO belts, to leave Hatton gushing:  “What a time to be a British heavyweight boxer.”

“On the world stage we’re up there and domestically there is world class potential.

“It wasn’t so long ago few people knew who a British heavyweight was. Now we have so many.

“People ask; ‘Why is Nathan against Daniel happening for a British title? It’s a little bit too soon ,’and maybe it is with the amount of fights they’ve had.

“But, if you win a British title these days it is more prestigious than it was in years gone by and that is no disrespect to anyone.

“There are British heavyweights at world level like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte. Then you have Dereck Chisora, Dave Allen, Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce and Nathan.

“If you win the British title you’ve earn’t it because there are so many great fighters out there.

“It isn’t just a lovely Lonsdale belt at stake, but doors will be opened for the winner.”

MANNY PACQUIAO VS. KEITH THURMAN & CALEB PLANT VS. MIKE LEE LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LOS ANGELES (May 22, 2019) – Eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten welterweight world champion Keith Thurman, plus unbeaten super middleweight champion Caleb Plant and unbeaten Mike Lee,squared-off for the second day in a row Wednesday, this time at a Los Angeles press conference as they previewed their respective showdowns taking place Saturday July 20 presented by Premier Boxing Champions and FOX Sports from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao and Thurman will battle in a welterweight world title attraction that headlines a PBC on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View event beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Plant will make the first defense of his title against the unbeaten Lee in the main event of FOX PBC Fight Night and on FOX Deportes preceding the Pay-Per-View and beginning at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by MP Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased online through AXS.com, charge by phone at 866-740-7711 or in person at any MGM Resorts International box office. Plant vs. Lee is presented by TGB Promotions and Sweethands Promotions.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles:

MANNY PACQUIAO

“It’s easy for my opponents to talk before the fight, and I’m used to everything they say. But when we get to the ring, it changes, and it will change on July 20.

“I chose Keith Thurman because he’s a great fighter, he’s undefeated and because we can give a good fight to the fans. I want to make the fans happy on that night and show that I can still go toe-to-toe with any opponent.

“He said he’s young, but we’ll see who looks young in the ring on July 20. I’m going to let my fists say everything for me.

“We will work hard in training camp like always for this fight. We’re not going to take Keith Thurman lightly or underestimate him. He’s a world champion. I’m thankful for what he’s been saying, because it’s giving me motivation to prove that at 40-years-old, I feel 29.

“Keith Thurman is aggressive and throws a lot of punches. I’m hoping on July 20 he will follow through with what he says and fight toe-to-toe with me.

“The fans need to watch this fight because it’s a once in a lifetime fight. It’s going to be a Fight of the Year and full of action from start to finish. I’m ready to get it on July 20.

“Most of my opponents are bigger than me and I beat them all. When we get into the ring, it doesn’t matter. This has happened before and it will happen again against Thurman.

“My experience will be very important for this fight. It’s going to be useful against an undefeated fighter. I’m going to give him the experience of losing for the first time.

“I’m still having fun and enjoying the sport. I’m excited to go straight to the gym after this and start focusing on training for the fight.”

KEITH THURMAN

“It’s a blessing to be on this stage and have a fight of this magnitude. I’m an all-American fighter, an all-American champion and come July 20, I’m going to stay champion.

“Manny is a world class fighter. He’s a gentleman inside and outside of the ring. I look forward to trading punches with a living legend. But one thing’s for sure, he’s not walking away with my title.

“All Manny does is hop around in the ring. I’m not going to lose to a bunny rabbit. He’s not Tupac, but he does a little hip hop and he’s not going to stop until he gets dropped.

“Manny is a world class fighter, not a world class boxer. I’m going to trip him up in the ring and he won’t know what direction to turn to. I know who I am as a fighter, and it will be proven come July 20.

“I’m destroying the legend of Manny Pacquiao. His legacy ends on July 20 and mine begins. He’s an inspiration to many people throughout the world and everyone respects him, but I’m respectfully going to finish him.

“This is a big fight as far as the stage goes, but it’s a big fight against a little guy. He’s a veteran and I’ve dismantled veterans in the past. I believe I would have destroyed Manny Pacquiao five years ago. I’ve always been ready for this fight. He’s never fought someone like me with this kind of lateral movement, speed and power. I’m coming for him.

“I was in the gym four weeks ago starting some preparations. I wanted to get the ball rolling and use the momentum from my last training camp for this opportunity. Who better to showcase my skills and talent against than Manny Pacquiao? He chose me because it will be a guaranteed action fight.

“I think this is one of the best Manny Pacquiao fights in a long time. I’m going to bring it. Pacquiao did not get reminded in his last fight what it feels like to be up against a real champion. I’m the youngest, fastest, hungriest fighter that he’s ever been in the ring with. July 20, it’s the ‘Keith Thurman show’.”

CALEB PLANT

“I never consider myself the A-side because my history says that I shouldn’t even be here. As beautiful as the belt is, it’s about more to me than that. It’s about legacy for me. I’ve been carrying myself as a world champion since the day I started this journey, so this is nothing new to me.

“I’m the whole package. I have speed, I have footwork, I have power, I have the heart and the will to win. Until you find someone else who’s all that, I’m going to keep having my hand raised.

“Where I’m from, there’s confrontation every day. This is nothing new to me. There are times I was told that I wouldn’t make it. Nobody paved the way for me like I’m from New York or Los Angeles. I paved my own way.

“Mike Lee is in uncharted territory. I’m curious on how he plans on beating me. Does he plan on roughing me up and trying to knock me out like my last opponent? Can he do that better than Jose Uzcategui? Is he going to try to outbox me with his hand and foot speed? Because there’s no person from 160 to 175 who could do that.

“I’ve been committed to the same thing for the last 18 years straight. Rain, sleet or snow, I stayed committed. I’m bred for this. I was created for this. It’s the only thing I’ve done my whole life. On July 20, I’ll be keeping the thing that I’ve worked my whole entire life for.

“At every decision that has to be made, you can go left or you can go right. From the genesis of my being, every time it was the moment to make a tough decision, I went the same way. Because I do not bend or fold for anything. No matter what’s tossed my way, this journey must go on for me. He said he has nothing to lose, but I have everything to lose.

“All the motivational videos that he watches and books that he reads, I’m the very essence and meaning of that. I’m the pinnacle of all those things he’s studied. You can’t learn mental fortitude in a book. Those things are earned, they’re not learned.”

MIKE LEE

“This is a dream come true for me. I’ve been through so much and there were days where I thought my dream was over. I’ve chased this since I was eight-years-old and I’m thankful for this chance to go after a dream that others thought I couldn’t reach.

“The beauty of this sport is that it’s only me and Caleb in there. Everyone else can only talk. I’ve been in the ring through adversity and stuck it out, because that’s the kind of person I am. I know that if I come on July 20 as the best Mike Lee possible, that I can win.

“I’ve been in the gym working every day. Doctors told me at one point that I wouldn’t fight again, but I’m still standing right here. I pushed through my pain to get here.

“I’m excited to be here in Los Angles, where we hold training camp. I’m bringing the belt back to Chicago, but Los Angeles is a second home to me.

“Today is the culmination of years of sacrifice, hard work and discipline. I’m undefeated for a reason but I feel people underestimate me and I like that. I’ve been underestimated my whole career. I’ve thrived off people say I couldn’t do it.

“I respect Caleb Plant. He’s the champion for a reason and I respect any fighter who can step into that ring. You have to be a different kind of animal to do that in front of all those people, and I am that animal.

“I’m coming with power, strength, speed and I’m going to give it everything I have. I’m going to become the new IBF Super Middleweight World Champion.”

RICHARD STURM, President of Las Vegas Live Entertainment & Sports

“I’d like to welcome back Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman, two of the world’s best fighters, back to Las Vegas and MGM Grand. Manny returns to the ring at MGM Grand following his convincing win in January while Keith will fight in Las Vegas for the first time in four years, looking to remain undefeated.

“We’re truly excited to be hosting this sensational event at MGM Grand and we look forward to seeing everybody in July.”

BILL WANGER, Executive Vice President of Programming, Research & Content Strategy for FOX Sports

“Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman is a living legend, versus a legend in the making. We’re excited to deliver an unprecedented night of boxing on July 20 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Manny is one of boxing’s biggest stars. Keith Thurman is an undefeated world champion and a huge ratings draw. We’re excited to bring viewers inside the ropes and up close to the action on fight night, and produce extensive behind the scenes preview programming that will air across the FOX networks.

“FOX Sports is thrilled to have a battle on July 20 with such a compelling storyline to kick off a great night of championship boxing with the IBF champion Caleb Plant against the undefeated Mike Lee.

“In January, Caleb Plant headlined the most-watched boxing event ever on FS1. Now he’s fighting on the FOX network for the first time as the main event. At FOX Sports, big events that capture America’s attention are in our DNA. This fight certainly fits that bill.

“Our goal with the PBC deal is to build these fighters into household names, and we’re well on our way. We expect a great show on July 20 in Las Vegas.”

ANDRADE AND SULECKI DRAW BATTLE LINES IN PROVIDENCE

Demetrius Andrade and Maciej Sulecki came face-to-face for the first time as they prepare to clash in Andrade’s first hometown fight and second defense of his WBO World Middleweight title at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday June 29, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

**TICKETS FOR ANDRADE VS. SULECKI ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**

Andrade (27-0 17 KOs) has had to wait to top the bill in his Providence backyard but does so in the most important fight of his spotless career – with promoter Eddie Hearn rightly calling ‘Boo Boo’s’ WBO strap the missing piece of the undisputed puzzle at 160lbs.

The two-time two-weight World ruler has made no secret of his desire to fight WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring magazine king Canelo Alvarez for all the marbles, so victory against the rugged Pole is a must on June 29.
Sulecki (28-1 11 KOs) has promised to rip the title from Andrade and launch himself into that A1 position himself, and the 30 year old showed both his ability, desire and heart in a rollercoaster clash with Gabriel Rosado in Philadelphia in March.

That win landed Sulecki the shot at Andrade, but the champion believes that this is a breakout fight for him and the challengers style will provide him with the perfect showcase for his undisputed credentials.

“It’s that time – Providence, Rhode Island – wow,” said Andrade. “It’s my homecoming, it’s an exciting moment for me, my family and my team. It’s a great honor to be headlining at home.

“Maciej is a good fighter, there’s no doubt. He’s had some tough grueling fights, he’s shown balls to win, but on June 29 that won’t happen. I’ve got an answer for everything he brings and this is my time – he’s got this far, but he goes no further – no one is stopping this train.

“I’ve been through a lot, people see me smiling but I’ve had to fight hard to be World champion, twice, and now I’ve got the chance to show my people what I do. The wolf is coming out, I’m breaking bones and biting hard – Sulecki comes to fight ad that’s what I want, he’s going to show my skills off and show that I am the man in this division.”

“I want to thank the Polish fans and American fans for supporting me,” said Sulecki. “I am here because I want to win this fight and I will be 100 per cent ready. He’s a good fighter, a two-time World champion, but he’s not boxed anyone as good as me. It’s my dream to be World champion and on June 29 that dream comes true.”

“The WBO is the final link to undisputed,” said Hearn. “There’s a guy called Canelo with the other belts but you cannot be undisputed without this belt, and the winner on June 29 takes a step closer to being undisputed.

“Demetrius has been searching for that fighter that comes to fight – and Maciej comes to fight every time. He will never, ever go into his shell, he’s coming to fight for every second of the 12 three-minute World championship rounds.

“I have wanted to bring a fight to Dunkin’ Donuts since we signed Demetrius and this is the first World title fight in Rhode Island in 28 years – we need the city to get behind this event and this great Providence fighter, this is your opportunity to come out and support an elite fighter that is one of your own.

“There will be a great undercard announced next week in support of this brilliant World title fight, with another World title fight and a big Heavyweight title fight plus lots of young talents and local favorites.”

MCCASKILL: I’M MORE THAN READY TO UNIFY

Jessica McCaskill says she is more than ready to unify the Super-Lightweight division as the WBC champion takes on WBA ruler Anahi Sanchez at the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland on Saturday May 25, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

**TICKETS FOR MAY 25 FEATURING DEVIN HANEY ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**

McCaskill (6-2 3 KOs) landed her title in her Chicago homepatch in October, outpointing Erica Farias to land the belt in just her eighth pro fight.

‘CasKILLA’ had already fought for a World title in her seventh fight when she travelled to London to tackle Irish great Katie Taylor for the WBA Lightweight crown, and as she prepares to reach for great heights once again in just her ninth fight against seasoned Argentina Sanchez (19-3 11 KOs), the 34 year old says that she’s been prepared to move her career quickly ever since teaming up with trainer Rick Ramos.

“Rick said that we would be on a fast pace from day one, this will be my ninth fight and it’s a unification – that’s kind of crazy but we’re going to go with the flow and I am ready for this,” said McCaskill.

“It’s always great to be told that you are fighting. Last year I was told I was fighting then I’m not fighting, it was rough. Knowing that you have a fight coming up, especially a really big one, lights a fire under you and even the team around you.

“I don’t have a camp, we’re always in the gym, it doesn’t matter when it is there is always someone fighting, if it’s not me with a fight coming up someone else does and it’s my obligation to help them. For my own wellbeing and my own career, I want to be in the gym and focusing on training and improving.

“It’s like clockwork in the gym and it gives me an advantage as my mind is always ready to fight. I’m always hungry for something because I don’t do this for nothing – I want the belts, I want the big fights, I want to unify and I want to be undisputed.

“Every time you have a big fight you come out of it that little bit sharper. Even the amateurs in the gym, they’ve just come back from a tournament in Reno, both ranked number one in their weight class and they are thirsty for blood, sparring is on another level, so it helps everyone in the gym.”

McCaskill’s clash with Sanchez is part of a huge night of action in Maryland as Lightweight sensation Devin Haney makes his DAZN debut against Antonio Moran, rising Heavyweight Croatian talent Filip Hrgovic taking on Gregory Corbin on his US debut and there’s more Heavyweight interest as Michael Hunter tackles Gregory Corbin.

Tickets are priced at $40, $80, $150 and $250 (plus fees) and are on sale now at this link: https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/15005688E0B851B0

Rising prospects, rematch highlight Xcite Fight Night 4 undercard

BENSALEM, PA-The undercard for Xcite Fight Night 4 at Parx Casino® on June 15 is packed with undefeated prospects and an entertaining rematch.

In the semifinal contest, Jerome Conquest (10-3-0 1 K0) faces off against Frank Trader (12-2-1 3 K0s) in an all-Philadelphia matchup for the USBF continental championship. That will serve as a prelude to the main event, which features homegrown flyweight Miguel Cartagena (15-5-1 6 K0s). Cartagena looks to return to his winning ways against Jesus Solar (10-1-1 5K0s), who is making just his second stateside appearance in what has become the Puerto Rican fighter’s adopted second home.

The undercard features a welterweight bout with one of Philly’s most exciting unbeaten prospects in Marcel Rivers (7-0 4 K0s). He promises an entertaining fight with Lancaster-based Evincii Dixon (7-23-2 2 K0s).

“Camp is going good, my team and I turn it up each week,” said Rivers, who is a PGW foreman by day. “I feel good about my fight – it’s always good to fight in my city in front of all my supporters, and I’m goin to give them what they want.”

Brooklyn’s Omar Kabary Salem (9-0 4 K0s) returns for his second appearance at the Xcite Center. In his previous outing, he made quick work of Jacob Fox, knocking him out in the first round. He picked up another win on April 27 and will be turning around quickly to face off with Philadelphia’s Jamaal Davis (18-14-1 7 K0s) in a super middleweight bout. Davis will be the most experienced opponent of Salem’s career and the fight should prove to be a telling challenge between youth and experience.

The Xcite Center will also play home to a compelling rematch at junior welterweight, as Onsel Charles (12-19-1 2 K0s) and Laquan Lewis (2-10-0 1KOs) run back their entertaining fight from here last February. Charles earned a hard-fought knockout in their first meeting.

Rounding out the card will be two young guns who are becoming familiar with the Xcite Center. Welterweight Tyhler Williams (2-0-0 2 K0s) is fresh off this second stoppage in as many fights, and is looking to build on his early career momentum. He’ll take on Tyree Arnold (0-1) of Philadelphia.

Polish light heavyweight Jan Czerklewicz makes his pro debut against Angel Vasquez of Springfield, MA. Vasquez will also be making his first start.

Welterweight Daiyaan Butt (3-0-0 1 K0) of Philadelphia, who earned his first KO in his last outing at the Xcite Center, looks to continue the strong start to his career. His opponent will be announced shortly.

AHMED ELBIALI TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (May 22, 2019) – Light heavyweight brawler Ahmed Elbiali will return to the ring, and for the first time with new trainer Justin Gamber, when he faces Marlos Simões in a 10-round showdown as part of Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes action this Saturday night from Beau Rivage Resort Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

PBC on FS1 and FOX Deportes begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and is headlined by former super welterweight champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout returning to the ring to take on former title challenger Terrell Gausha in a 10-round super welterweight battle.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at the Beau Rivage Theatre box office and through Ticketmaster.

Elbiali has recently began working with a new trainer in Gamber, who also trains super middleweight champion Caleb Plant, and will look to show his improvement in the ring this Saturday night. Here is what he had to say about his new trainer and more:

On training with new coach Justin Gamber:
“I’ve been learning a lot since I started training with Justin Gamber, which was about six weeks ago. Nothing against my old trainers, I just felt I needed a new look. Justin and I work well together and I’ve improved tremendously. I’m learning how to relax more in the ring, which has helped me keep my power in the later rounds of sparring. Justin is a great coach and together we are going to make some noise in the light heavyweight division.”

On his recent training camp:
“I’ve put in a lot of hard work for this training camp and I can see the difference compared to other camps I’ve had in the past. I’m working on the fundamentals of boxing, using my jab more and setting up my combinations. I know I have the power to knock out my opponents, but now I’m learning more how to set it up. Living and training in Las Vegas has been a big boost to my career because the sparring out here is second to none. I’m having a great training camp.”

On his matchup with Marlos Simões:
“I know Simões is a durable opponent who’s only been stopped once in his career. I’m expecting him to be in great shape. He’s had a lot of success in the ring, so I’m preparing for a guy who can really fight. I’m just going to go in there and execute my game plan.”

On when he will be ready for a world title shot:
“I want to get as many fights as possible this year and make a world title run in 2020. Of course, everything is predicated fight to fight, but that is the goal.”

On making his televised return on FS1:
“Fighting on FS1 is always fun and exciting. FS1 is the platform where us fighters get the most exposure while we’re coming up. You can’t compare any other network to FOX, where the whole world can tune in. It’s truly a blessing for me to be fighting on FS1.”

FATHER-TRAINER PETER FURY: “EXPECT A PERFORMANCE FROM HUGHIE THAT YOU’VE NOT SEEN BEFORE!”

Ahead of son Hughie’s eagerly awaited ring return in a heavyweight demolition derby with undefeated Canadian tree-toppler Chris Norrad at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse this Saturday night exclusively live on Channel 5, Papa Peter reveals how he has been converting his artful and evasive son from a dancer to a destroyer.

It’s a MUST that Hughie shines now and he’s certainly got the ability to do so. Expect a performance from him next weekend that you’ve not seen before.

Coming off a defeat (a 12 round decision to Bulgarian beast Kubrat Pulev in an IBF final eliminator in Sofia last October), it’s imperative that Hughie reminds everybody he’s a real threat within the heavyweight division.

We’re working on being more attractive to the public, as well as winning fights to become a world class fighter.

On May 25th, I expect to see Hughie totally in control, enjoying himself, oozing confidence. Using his boxing to set Chris Norrad up, then getting him out of there, in style. And I know he can do it.

Training world class fighters, sometimes you have to unlock their minds as well as develop them physically. I’ve always maintained that boxing is 90% mental.  It takes time to develop genuine confidence. Now Hughie’s a little older and more experienced, hopefully, he’s finally turned that corner. He’s been pro over six years now.

A lot of young heavyweights coming through only have hand-picked opponents before they challenge for titles but that certainly wasn’t the case with Hughie. He never had an easy ride.

His losses have actually been a blessing. He’s benefitted so much; one controversial points loss in a world title fight and another fighting abroad with just one good eye against a monster no one else was prepared to fight.

Even in defeat, we took a lot out of the Pulev fight. Hughie was executing our game plan perfectly until he got a massive, deep, cut late in round two. The skin was flapping so, when the doctor insisted we were on borrowed time, Hughie went ‘all out’. The adrenalin we placed into the cut burnt his fuel taking his body into overdrive but he only had the vision of one eye. After five or six rounds he went totally flat.

Hughie’s the ultimate professional in and out of the ring. In the seven months since Pulev, we’ve been correcting a lot of stuff and now he’s really coming into his own. He’s in fine health, no issues, no excuses. We’re more than ready. I’m happy with everything.

With the heavyweights, we all know you’re just one punch away from disaster. But Hughie possesses all of the tools, is naturally awkward and he’s very, very durable. No heavyweight alive is going to get rid of Hughie Fury quickly. He’s now a very serious player who can give anybody in the division a very hard night.

After this, we’ll be straight back in training, looking to keep busy. Mick (Hennessy, Hughie’s promoter) says Hughie will be out again in September, then put into a serious fight against a big name before the end of the year. He’s gone beyond British level. We’re only interested in European and World titles.

Norrad’s a big heavyweight, who’s always in shape and brings an undefeated record. He’s spars a lot with (Quebec’s 16-1, 15 kayos) Simon Kean so is obviously a very durable guy. He’s not one who’ll be blown away in one or two rounds, that’s for sure. He’s someone who’ll fight back, exactly what we need.

But I see Hughie on another level and once we get this one out the way and he’s off again.”
