At the very end of round eight, Tinoco landed a perfect left to the body that put Gill down again.

The fight was stopped in the corner following the round.

Tinoco, 126 lbs of Baja California Mexico is 18-5-4 with 13 knockouts. Gill, 125.9 lbs of England is now 23-1.

HANEY HEADLINES MARYLAND SHOW

Devin Haney will headline on his DAZN debut against Antonio Moran on Saturday May 25 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

**TICKETS FOR MAY 25 FEATURING DEVIN HANEY ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**

Haney (21-0 13 KOs) announced a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing USA last week and now the Lightweight sensation will headline against Moran (24-3 17 KOs), the 26 year old who has stopped four of his last five opponents and was narrowly edged out by Jose Pedraza in June.

‘The Dream’ will be hunting World title action in the second half of 2019, sitting at number three in the WBC, five in the WBA, eight with the WBO and ten with the IBF, and the 20 year old Las Vegas ace will be looking to underline his lofty position in the rankings with a stellar showing in Maryland.

“It’s unfortunate that Oleksandr Usyk had to pull out because of injury,” said Haney. “I wish him a fast and speedy recovery. I’m very happy Matchroom and DAZN made the right choice in making me the main event.

“The MGM National Harbor will be the perfect place for me to show up and show out at. The fans in this area of the world really know boxing. I will put on a great show for them. I’m the future of this sport and on May 25 I will show the world how much I’ve grown inside the ring.”

A stacked card in support of Haney sees Chicago’s WBC World Super-Lightweight champion Jessica McCaskill (6-2 3 KOs) aims to unify the division against Argentine WBA ruler Anahi Sanchez (19-3), Croatian Heavyweight star Filip Hrgovic (7-0 5 KOs) faces Gregory Corbin (15-1 9 KOs) and Las Vegas Heavyweight Michael Hunter (16-1 11 KOs) will look to continue his great run of KO wins.

“We know that Devin is a future superstar but Usyk’s unfortunate injury now gives Devin the chance to headline first time out on DAZN,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Moran will give Devin the toughest test of his career so far, last year he dropped a close decision to WBO World champ Jose Pedraza and is coming off an impressive knockout victory.

“Heavyweight action remains on the card with two top 15 ranked fighters Michael Hunter and Flip Hrgovic who are both searching for a shot at the World heavyweight title and Jessica McCaskill and Anahi Sanchez face off in an exciting World title unification. It’s going to be a great night of boxing and I expect Devin Haney to steal the show in Maryland!”

Tickets are on sale now priced at $40, $80, $150 and $250 (plus fees) and are on sale now at this link: https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/15005688E0B851B0

Baumgardner was rolling along with with a perfect mark until her last bout when she dropped a disputed split decision to Christina Linardatou on March 24th.

“I have learned that a slight setback sets up a big comeback, and that is what I plan on doing starting on Friday night. I am very focused for this fight. That was a close fight that I thought I won, but I would rather have had that happen early in my career rather then later. Now I can show what I can do for women’s boxing in the 130-pound division. Women’s boxing is coming along and there are some great fights out there in the division against Mikaela Mayer and Tiara Brown. If something like a fight against Amanda Serrano or Katie Taylor comes at 135, I would take that. I am competitive athlete.”

Miller was a silver medalist at the Women’s World Championship in 2012 and that same year she was also a USA Boxing National Champion. She has a perfect record as a pro with a style that is nothing short of electric.

Erin Toughill truly lives up to the “tough” in her last name. Her most recent bout was an 8 round war versus the well regarded Maricela Cornejo on January 27th. Many thought Toughill deserved to have her hand raised at the end of the night but she lost a close decision. She plans to take out her frustrations from that fight on the the battle ready Raquel Miller. In addition to her illustrious ring exploits, Toughill is also a former American Gladiator. Known as Steel on that circuit, Toughill stole the show in all her competitions and she plans to do the same thing on May 18 at The Gardens Casino!

Co-headlining will be undefeated prospect Jonathan Esquivel in a 6 round Super Middleweight boxing match against the veteran of 32 fights Tavorus Teague from Paramount, CA. With a record of 9-0 (8KOs) Esquivel hopes to become a perfect 10-0, but the battle-tested Teague has other ideas. He hopes that his experience with be the antidote to Esquivel’s youthful enthusiasm and dangerous punching power. Expect a war from the opening bell!

We move over to MMA with a 3 round Bantamweight bout between Los Angeles’s Jason Edwards in his pro-debut vs. Lancaster’s Taif Harris 0-1. These two may not bring the biggest resumes but they plan to make up for that come fight night. Lower weight classes are known for producing the best matchups and Edwards and Harris are on a collision course to make one on May 18th!
The undercard continues to be electric as it features a 4 round Super Middleweight armageddon between Laguna Niguel’s Johnny Cisneros (pictured below) in his pro boxing debut vs. Santa Ana’s beloved Kenny Quach (0-1). Quach is a fan favorite and truly a bigger than life personality, but Cisneros, a Bellator and King of the Cage fight veteran, is looking to impress in the first bout of his pro boxing career. He brings a pedigree that merges both boxing and MMA and that makes him a double threat for Quach. Expect this bout to be fierce, frenetic, and capable of ending at any moment.

The MMA action continues in the Featherweight division with Mission Viejo’s Geoffrey Mellor (pictured below) a CAMO featherweight champion who will be making his pro-debut against Jacksonville, Florida’s powerhouse Jerome Buchanan 1-4. Don’t let Buchanan’s record fool you, he’s traveling and fighting frequently and hoping to welcome Mellor to the pro ranks the hard way!

Next up is one of the most popular Greek prospects, Triantafyllos Mavidis 5-0 (5KOs) from Kavala, Greece vs. Jose Hernandez 19-5-1 (9KOs) in a 6 round Super Middleweight bout. Hernandez comes with a huge resume and is a big step up in class for Mavidis. However, this Greek warrior fights with with a whole country backing him up! Everything about this top notch scrap screams fight of the night.

Opening the show is the ice cold assassin Andreas Katzourakis (pictured below) of Athens, Greece in a 6 round Middleweight bout as he faces Rafael Garcia from Tucson, AZ. Katzourakis brings a ledger of 4-0 (3KOs), and is truly a triple threat. With the ability to bang, box, or brawl, he is quickly making a name for himself worldwide!

JONATHAN RICE TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LOS ANGELES, CA. (May 9, 2019) – Rising heavyweight Jonathan Rice (10-3-1, 6 KOs) will take on the toughest test of his career when he battles undefeated rising prospect, Arslanbek Makhmudov (7-0, 7 KOs) on May 11, 2019, from the Montreal Casino in Canada. The 10-round main event is being promoted by Eye of the Tiger Management.

Here is what Rice, who is managed by Greg Hannley of Prince Ranch Boxing, had to say about training, his matchup and more:

On his upcoming matchup with Arslanbek Makhmudov:

“This is a very difficult fight but I’m up for the challenge. He has tremendous power in both hands so I must execute the game plan we have in place. I have power in both hands myself so it’s going to be a very entertaining fight to say the least. These are the type of fights I must take to further my career.”

On his training camp with coach Wayne McCullough:

“I’ve made a lot of sacrifices during this training camp. I’ve got the best sparring possible with top guys in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Wayne and I have been working great since we got together three fights ago. I’m going to be showcasing all the stuff we’ve been working on in camp. All the hard work is about to pay off.”

On what a win against Makhmudov will do for his career:

“A victory against Makhmudov will sky rocket me up the rankings. He’s considered one of the top prospects in the heavyweight division. Many doors will open up for my career with a win.”

On fighting in Canada for the first time:

“I know it’s going to be a hostile crowd going into his backyard but I’m up for the challenge. To be great in this sport you must take risks. From what I’ve seen, the boxing fans in Canada are great. It’s going to be fun fighting I front of that big crowd.”

3-time world champion Jose Antonio Rivera Headlines “Quest For 50”

WORCESTER, MASS (May 9, 2019) — Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP) Rivera Entertainment Promotions (RPE) held a press conference this evening at Grille 57 in Worcester to formally announce a co-promotion, “Quest for 50.”

Three-time, two-division world champion “El Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera will fight at home for the final time on Friday night, June 14, when he competes in his 50th professional match, headlining “Quest For 50” against former WFC champion Travis “Sweet Feet” Scott, at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The 46-year-old Rivera (42-6-1, 25 KOs) came out of a seven-year retirement last August, in which he defeated journeyman Larry Smith by way of a seventh-round technical knockout, dropping 40 pounds during the process to fight as a middleweight.

Rivera, a full-time court officer in Worcester, announced that his eight-round, middleweight fight against Scott (19-5, 5 KOs) will be his last fight in Worcester, likely his final ring appearance, unless he receives a lucrative offer he can’t refuse.

“Once I fought last August after a seven-year retirement,” Rivera said, “I knew I was going to have one more for 50. I just didn’t know when. Like Chuck (Shearns, co-promoter) said, my opponent, Travis Scott speaks volumes. His last four opponents had a combined record of 49-0. He’s coming to Worcester to try and win. Let him try.

“I understand I’m 46, but age is the last thing on my mind. It’s more important for me to focus. The weigh in is in five weeks from today and I’m already 10 pounds off weight. It shows how hard I’ve been training. I’m training for this fight like I was training for my world title fights.”
The highlights of Rivera’s 26 ½-year pro boxing career was taking a 12-round majority decision victory in Germany over Michel Trabant in 2003 for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title, along with his 12-round unanimous decision win in 2006, in front of nearly 9,000 fans in Worcester, versus defending WBA junior middleweight champion Alejandro Garcia.

The six-round, co-featured event is an intra-Massachusetts, welterweight showdown between Khiry “TNT” Todd (8-1, 6 KOs), of Lynn, and New Bedford’s Ray Oliveira, Jr. (8-2, 1 KO), the son of New England boxing favorite “Sucra” Ray Oliveira.

Danbury, CT welterweight Omar “The Beast” Bordoy, Jr. (7-1, 2 KOs) will attempt to rebound from his only pro loss in a six-round bout versus Tyrone “Hands of Stone” Luckey (9-10-3, 7 KOs), fighting out of Neptune, New Jersey.

Two boxers with misleading records, Brooklyn’s Sidney “Keelo” Mccow (6-8, 3 KOs) and Augustine “Ruthless” Mauras (6-5-3, 3 KOs), of Lawrence, MA, throw-down in a six-rounder for the vacant New England junior welterweight title.

Seven-round bouts scheduled on the undercard include Worcester heavyweight Owen Minor (1-0, 1 KOs) vs. Alejandro Santiago (0-4), of Tampa; Worcester welterweight Eslih Owusu (1-0) vs. Jose Angel “KO” Ortiz (5-13-1, 2 KOs), of Springfield, MA; Bridgeport, CT welterweight Joseph Goss (1-0) vs. Peruvian Carlos Galindo (1-9), fighting out of Woburn, MA; East Providence, RI pro-debuting Elijah Peixoto vs. Bronx lightweight Danny Morales (0-8); Hartford, CT junior welterweight “The Special One” Sharad Collier (1-0-1, 1 KO), the 2-time N.E, Golden Gloves champion, vs. Anthony Everett (1-7), of Lawrence, MA; Worcester featherweight Philip Davis (1-1-1) vs. New Bedford’s Henry Garcia (0-2-1); and Methuen, MA lightweight Luka Lannuccilli will make his pro debut against opponents to be determined.

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $70.00 (ringside), $55.00 (mezzanine) and $40.00 (general admission), are on
sale and available to purchase at www.ThePalladium.net, the Palladium box office, or by
contacting Jose Rivera (elgallojar@gmail.com/508.864.6954), AJ Rivera
(anthoneerivera@gmail.com/774.272.2269) or any of the fighters.

Doors open at 6 p.m. ET, first bout 7 p.m. ET.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Worcester Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

Event sponsors include Lundgren Honda, Championsofhealth.usana.com, Raindrop Liquor, Michelob Ultra, Bay State Savings Bank, Vocero Hispano, Massachusetts Pirates, Office Mac, Chieftain Liquors, realtor Pamela LaPorte, and Grille 57.

PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Jose Antonio Rivera: “My mindset is I can train to perform and June 14th you will see for yourself. I’m excited! ‘Quest For 50’ started a long time ago and has been talked about a lot. I’m so excited about the undercard that I will be watching from my dressing room.”

A.J. Rivera, RPE President/matchmaker: “I thought my father was going through a mid-life crisis. He must have turned down 25 opponents until Chuck mentioned a tough fighter, Travis Scott, and he took that fight right away.

“The co-feature is one of the best fights I’ve ever made. I commend Khiry and Ray for taking the fight because, this early in their careers, most fighters won’t take a fight like this. But that’s their mentality.”

Jose Rivera, RPE Vice President: “Worcester’s own Jose Antonio Rivera – three-time world champion – will be fighting for the last time in his hometown. It’s going to be a great event with a tremendous undercard put together by my nephew, A.J. Rivera.”

Chuck Shearns, SBP promoter: “We’re happy to be working again with our friends from Rivera Promotions Entertainment and it’s a great opportunity for us to build on our last show. A.J. has built a good show, good fighters fighting good guys. Jose is driven by accomplishments. He wanted to be put in a good fight. I offered Travis Scott and he jumped at this fight. This kid can fight. His last four opponents had a combined record of 49-0. He’s not afraid to get in the ring with Jose. It’s going to be a compelling, entertaining fight. Owen Minor is the first real Massachusetts heavyweight in years.”

Khiary Todd: “Ray Oliveira is a tough opponent. He comes to fight and so do I. I’ve been here before. We want to move forward, taking good fights. I’m so happy to be on ‘Quest For 50’ with Jose.”

Ray Oliveira, Jr.: “I want to thank God for allowing me to fight after being 15 months off from the sport. I’m thankful to fight in Worcester for the first time and on a card with a legend. Worcester is a tough city that produces tough fighters. This is exactly what I wanted. I took a tough loss last February. I was distracted but I’m ready to come back. It’s all about this fight and I’m looking forward to being in this brawl.”

Owen Minor: “I’m not much of a public speaker, but this is a big show. Jose will be in his 50th fight and not many fighters today ever had 50. I’m thankful for this opportunity.”

Eslih Owusu: “I know my opponent has had a lot more fights than me. He’s tough and comes forward throwing punches. This is what I need to show I’m a great fighter. I will showcase my skills June 14th.”

Elijah Peixoto: “This has been a long time coming. I had an extensive amateur background that I’m taking to the pros. Thanks for this opportunity.”

Phil Davis: “Thanks for the opportunity to fight on ‘Quest For 50.’ It’s also for a new generation of Worcester fighters. Jose is done after this, but he’s giving us an opportunity. You don’t know me but June 14th you will.”

JARRETT HURD VS. JULIAN WILLIAMS FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

ARLINGTON, VA. (May 9, 2019) – Unified 154-pound world champion “Swift” Jarrett Hurd and top contender Julian “J-Rock” Williams previewed their showdown at a final press conference on Thursday evening before they headline Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes this Saturday night from EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.

Also squaring-off at the press conference and stepping into the ring Saturday in action beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT were unbeaten super lightweight contender Mario “El Azteca” Barrios and Argentina’s Juan “The Pitbull” Jose Velasco, who meet in a 10-round fight, and middleweight contenders Matt Korobov and Immanuwel Aleem, who battle in a 10-round attraction.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.com).

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Arlington, Virginia:

JARRETT HURD

“This has been a great week. This is the homecoming I always wanted. It’s even better than I imagined and I can’t wait to step into the ring.

“You can tell a lot about a fighter when you see them in the lead up to a fight. Julian Williams looks confident and he looks ready. It’s going to be a classic on fight night.

“It’s been fun to have this support from the city and my hometown. It’s fueled me. The love and support motivated me in the gym to make sure I go out there and put on a show.

“I’m a big 154-pounder but I know how to cut the weight and get it off right. We’re still eating and we’ll be strong come fight night.”

JULIAN WILLIAMS

“I really don’t think too much about fighting in his hometown. I’ve fought on the road my whole career. I just focus on the fight, not what’s going on outside of the ring.

“We touched on a lot of different things in training camp. We left no stone unturned. It sounds cliché and I’ve never said this before, but this was the best camp I’ve ever had. I’m ready to go get this win.

“I just see a man over there. His crowd can’t fight for him. That’s all it’s going to be Saturday night.

“The jab is always a key. It’s the most important punch in boxing and it’s the key for me no matter who I fight. I always work with bigger guys in camp so the size is going to be nothing new.”

MARIO BARRIOS

“We focused on being explosive in training camp. Working with Virgil Hunter was great as always. This is a big opportunity and I’m excited to put on a great show for these fans.

“He’s a hungry fighter. That’s the main thing. He’s tasted defeat and he doesn’t want to again. I’m blocking his path. On Saturday night, he’s not getting past me.

“I’m getting stronger and better every camp. There’s not too much to say, but I’m just looking forward to getting in the ring Saturday.”

JUAN JOSE VELASCO

“The fight against Regis Prograis was very tough and important for me. I want to be champion of the world and it showed me what I need to do to achieve that goal. I’m going to put what I learned on display Saturday.

“We’ve watched him and we know what he’s capable of doing. We know we have to be prepared to get this victory.”

MATT KOROBOV

“I took the fight against Jermall Charlo as a win because people know me better now and know where I stand in this division with my performance on short notice. I’m happy to be back and have this fight. My team did a great job preparing and we’ll be ready on Saturday night.”

IMMANUWEL ALEEM

“My trainer George Peterson has always stressed to train year round. We’re not part time fighters. I’m always in the gym working. When the fight comes, we’re always prepared.

“Korobov is another opponent who’s in my way to becoming a world champion. I’ve gotten some good work with southpaws to get ready for him and I feel fully prepared.

Here’s what the fighters had to say before they weighed in at the Doubletree Hilton in Ontario.

FINAL QUOTES:

RUBEN VILLA
“I thought I had a decent performance in my fight against Ruben Cervera on ShoBox and it’s great to be out there again on TV and in my first main event.

“Boxing fans are starting to know my name. A lot of them don’t know I had wins over Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson and Gary Russell in the amateurs and have stayed active since turning pro. I’m ready for this and to can’t wait to be a main event fighter on ShoBox.

“I know I’m in one of boxing’s toughest divisions and I look up to all the top guys at 126 pounds. Shakur Stevenson and I have talked about fighting in the future, and it might just happen someday.”

“My training team of Max Garcia and Dean Familton have me ready and I’m more prepared for this fight than any I’ve ever been. I am confident that style is going to confuse my opponent.

“If I’m up 8-0 I’m not going to mail it in and just run around, but I won’t get careless either. The wins are important and we will get it however we can.

“This is going to be a step-up fight for me because Lopez is coming off a huge win and has a lot of confidence. I’ve gotten better in my last three training camps dictating the pace and going forward. I want to be a multi-dimensional fighter.

“I just turned 22 years old last month and I’m still developing. I know I’m known for putting on clinics and I know that inner beast is in me.

“I won’t give him a chance to take advantage of what will make him successful. I’m not a slow starter, but I’ll take my time to figure out what I need to do to get my opponent out of there.”

LUIS ALBERTO LOPEZ:
“I wasn’t supposed to win my last fight and it was in America so I’m coming in with a lot of confidence. I know now I can go outside of my country and my comfort zone. I believe in myself and know I can do it.

“I would call my opponent a good boxer without much power. We respect Villa’s record but he hasn’t fought anyone.

“My nickname is ‘venado’ which means deer in Spanish. I got it from my speed in soccer growing up.

“Most of my opponents have been too slow for me. I can move so I’m looking forward to being in there with someone with speed. I can change up strategies depending on what he shows.

“I was 19 years old when I started and had only 12 or 15 fights in the amateurs and turned pro after only one year. I have boxing in my blood and fought 2,000 fights on the street, and most of those I won.”

MICHAEL DUTCHOVER:
“You won’t believe how excited I am right now. This is my TV debut and I’m actually very calm and just ready to go.

“I’m not worried about the last-minute change in opponents. I know he’s a tall southpaw, but that doesn’t worry me. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before.

“I’ve sparred with world champions and some other southpaws in the past like Jessie Magdaleno. We’ve done some mitt work from the left stance and we’ll be ready for whatever my opponent brings. I’m going to have to use my angles against a taller fighter.

“I believe my ring generalship and my ring IQ is going to win out over an inexperienced fighter.

“My older brother Junior Dutchover has always pushed me and always says, ‘Someday that is going to be you on TV.’ And here we are and it’s actually happening tomorrow night.

“I had a good amateur career and my progression as a pro is right where I want it to be. This is the biggest opportunity of my career and I need to take advantage of it.

“Ruben Villa and I are very close friends and we go way back in the amateurs. We went 1-1 and I was 13 or 14 at the time. I also fought Devin Haney also in the amateurs.”

ROSEKIE CRISTOBAL
“I took this fight on short notice because it was the biggest chance I’ve ever been given. I have been in the gym, working out at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. I have sparred with Ivan Baranchyk and other top guys. I’m ready to go.

“My style is aggressive and technical – it depends on my opponent. I just want to give a good performance.”

SAUL SANCHEZ
“This is my first time on national TV and I’m excited. I’m ready to give everyone a show. I’m a come forward fighter and exciting to watch.

“I haven’t fought since I broke my left pinky during round six of my last fight against Luis Saavedra in October. I didn’t have surgery and just put it in a splint. I felt a little pain when I first started hitting the bag.

“I’m quiet outside of the ring but once I get in the ring I let it fly. That’s why they call me ‘The Beast.’

BRANDON BENITEZ
“I’ve been mostly fighting in Venezuela so I know a lot of people may not know me. This is my opportunity to show my skills. I’m more of a skilled boxer but at the same time I can fight on the inside and be aggressive.

“I’m so happy to be here and appreciate the opportunity to fight. It really is a dream come true.

“I’ve studied my opponent a little bit and he looks like a strong fighter who likes to crash in the ring, and we look forward to that. But I want to box.”

Oscar Valdez-Jason Sanchez Headlines Top Rank on ESPN Card June 8 at Reno-Sparks Convention Center

RENO, Nev. (May 9, 2019) — Boxing’s preeminent action superhero, Oscar Valdez, will make the sixth defense of his WBO featherweight world title Saturday, June 8 against the upset-minded Jason “El Alacrancito” Sanchez at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

Valdez-Sanchez and the 10-round light heavyweight showdown between title-hungry contenders Sullivan Barrera and Michael Seals will be televised live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Undercard bouts will stream live on ESPN+, the leading multi-sport streaming service, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. Gabriel Flores Jr. (13-0, 6 KOs), fresh off his third-round knockout over Eduardo Pereira Reis in front of more than 10,000 fans in his hometown of Stockton, California, will see action on the undercard.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Let’s Get It On Promotions and Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, tickets for this world championship event priced at $103, $68 and $43 (including facility fees) are on sale now and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.com or in person at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa gift shop.

“Jason Sanchez is the real ‘Cinderella Man,’” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “He is young, hungry and capable of pulling off a major upset. It should be an exciting battle.”

“I’m excited to be back in the ring for the sixth defense of my world title. I know there is a big target on my back because I’m the champion, but nobody is going to take this title away from me,” Valdez said. “This will be my second fight training with Eddy Reynoso. Training with Eddy, I feel the best I’ve ever felt. I felt great in the ring during my first fight with Eddy in my corner. I know that I will look even better this time out. The fans in Reno and watching on ESPN and ESPN Deportes can expect a great showing from me on June 8.”

“I am truly honored and blessed to have an opportunity like this,” Sanchez said. “Coming from Albuquerque, New Mexico, I knew I had to work extra hard to be noticed and to get where I’m at right now. I will be bringing this belt home to Albuquerque, to my family, my supporters, and most of all, my late brother Alan Sanchez. I believe he guided me down this road and that my journey is only beginning.”

Valdez (25-0, 20 KOs), Mexico’s first two-time Olympian, has thrilled boxing fans with his go-for-broke style. He won the WBO featherweight title in July 2016 and proved his mettle with a trio of 12-round bloodbaths against Miguel Marriaga, Genesis Servania and Scott Quigg in consecutive bouts. Valdez outlasted an over-the-weight Quigg last March by unanimous decision despite fighting more than half the bout with a severely broken jaw. Following the Quigg bout, Valdez took nearly a year off, returning Feb. 2 in Frisco, Texas, to knock out then-unbeaten Italian challenger Carmine Tommasone in the seventh round.

The 24-year-old Sanchez (14-0, 7 KOs) enters this championship fight as one of the featherweight division’s fastest-rising young guns. Last October, he stunned then-unbeaten Jean Carlos Rivera via unanimous decision in Panama City, Panama. Following the Rivera victory, Sanchez signed a long-term promotional contract with Top Rank. He impressed in his Top Rank debut Feb. 2 in Frisco, Texas, knocking out Daniel Olea in the second round. Sanchez hopes to become only the fifth men’s boxer from New Mexico to win a world title.

Barrera (22-2, 14 KOs), a former Cuban amateur standout, defected to the United States in 2009 and turned pro later that year. The Miami-based bruiser won the first 17 bouts of his career before dropping a decision to pound-for-pound great Andre Ward. A perennial contender, Barrera holds victories over Joe Smith Jr., Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, Karo Murat and former super middleweight world champion Jeff Lacy. He challenged Dmitry Bivol for a light heavyweight world title last year and fought valiantly before being stopped in the 12th and final round.

Seals (22-2, 16 KOs), a former linebacker for Alabama A&M University, traded in his cleats for trunks and turned pro after a five-fight amateur career. He was 19-0 when he clashed with Edwin Rodriguez in November 2015. In a seesaw battle that included five knockdowns, Rodriguez knocked out Seals in the third round of a Fight of the Year contender. Seals is 3-1 since the Rodriguez battle, the lone loss coming via disqualification after he hit his opponent while he was on the ground. The winner of this can’t-miss action fight will be in line for a potential world title opportunity.

“I am very excited to have signed with Top Rank, a world-class organization with the best light heavyweights in the world,” Barrera said. “I am excited about the future, but the first step is to handle business June 8 and then I can look forward to a shot at a world title. My ultimate goal is Sergey Kovalev. I’ve been chasing him my whole career. Hopefully, we can finally fight this year.”

“This means everything to me. I had a great opportunity with Edwin Rodriguez, but I went into that fight with a torn rotator cuff. I was basically fighting with just my right hand,” Seals said. “Now, I am 100 percent healthy. This is my time. Barrera had his time. I feel good. I feel sharp. I feel young. I have sacrificed so much and have had a lot of time to reflect on the decisions I’ve made and all of the hardships I’ve gone through. On June 8, I’m going to unleash all of my frustration on Barrera. I don’t want to take anything away from Barrera. He’s a world-class fighter, but I am as well.”

“NATHAN IS GOING TO BE MY EASIEST FIGHT SO FAR!” | HEAVY DUTY PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

DANIEL DUBOIS and Nathan Gorman met face-to-face today to officially announce their vacant British heavyweight title fight at The O2, London on Saturday July 13.

Also on the bill is world ranked London heavyweight Joe Joyce who will feature in a major fight. He first has to come through a test against Alexander Ustinov at The Lamex Stadium, home of Stevenage FC on Saturday May 18.

The blockbuster night will be broadcast live on BT Sport.

Here’s what the unbeaten trio, their teams and promoter Frank Warren had to say ahead of the big summer night of action.

FRANK WARREN

“It’s not the end of the world for the loser between Daniel and Nathan. Dereck Chisora has shown you can come good after losing.

“I wanted to put the fight on this December, but I spoke to the boys and they made the fight. They wanted it.

“There is nothing better than watching two young heavyweights in there. They are exciting young talents and the next generation. This is a throwback fight.

“These guys and Joe Joyce are going to be in the picture when Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua come back from America.

“The British Boxing Board of Control put out the fight between Joe and Daniel. I spoke with Joe’s team and they were looking at their position as mandatory challenger to European champion Agit Kabayel and WBA regular champion Manuel Charr so go in another direction for now. We have been in discussion with Kabayel and if we can’t agree terms that will go to purse bids. Joe will fight a world ranked opponent in July.”

DANIEL DUBOIS

“There has been a lot of talk about this fight, there will be attention but I think Nathan is gonna be my easiest fight so far and after I’ve got him out the way I’m after Joe Joyce and whoever is left.

“There is so much potential in me.

“The GB squad with Nathan is all a blur and the past.

“I have got what it takes to deal with him and it will be easy. Be careful what you wish for. I’m here and will get the job done.

“If I hadn’t shown my skills I wouldn’t be here. It has been hard work, but I am here.

“To go in the record books as British champion is something else and a step towards being top of the division.

“I don’t care about liking Nathan. We’re in the hurt business and that is what I look forward to doing to him on fight night.”

TONY BOWERS (Dubois manager)

“We’re confident. Daniel works hard, has matured and we can see him growing in every angle — power and strength. He is becoming the full package and nothing flusters him.

“He is easy to work with because there is no task he won’t take on and complete. Daniel isn’t worried about what Nathan says and laughs it off. He will put that right on the night.”

NATHAN GORMAN

“We were on the GB squad for two years together and we did 200 or 300 rounds sparring and I don’t think I lost one.

He thinks I’m his easiest opponent so far, but I bring a lot more than all the other opponents he has fought.

They have just wanted to get the payday and go home. I want to win and be British heavyweight champion.

If me being his easiest fight is motivation fair play. I’m not and he knows it.

This isn’t going to points and I am trying for the KO. I am the underdog and people might say I will get knocked out, but we’ll see.

The all-time greats have been boxers and I have a boxing brain.

Some great names have won the British title and it will be the greatest moment in my boxing life to win it at the o2 Arena.

I’m not sure if Daniel if Frank’s golden goose, but after July 13 I will be his number one boy.”

RICKY HATTON (Gorman’s trainer)

“Fights like this don’t normally happen so soon, but boxing is changing. Building a fight up for three years doesn’t exist anymore because of TV and public demands. Boxers also want to fight the best sooner. I take my hat off to Nathan and Daniel for taking this fight.

As a trainer you hope someone walks through the door like Nathan and when he walked through the door looked like he’d been doing it for years. He has talent, hand speed, can fight in the pocket and he will have to show that against Daniel.

From the minute he walked through the door this was the one fight Nathan wanted.”

JOE JOYCE

“Ustinov is a big old boy and can take stick so I need to put it on him next week. After that it’s a massive fight, but I am not overlooking Ustinov.

The July card shows that the UK heavyweights are taking over. I want to see how Daniel and Nathan get on and take on the winner down the line.

Daniel and Nathan is a 50-50 fight, a massive rivalry and it is gonna be explosive. I’m sitting on the fence. I saw them on the GB squad and could see the rivalry. It’s going to be tasty.”

SAM JONES (S-JAM Boxing)

“The fight with Daniel or Nathan is always going to be there, but he would lose the EBU nomination if we fought Daniel and we’re also mandatory to WBA regular champion. We would even fight Dereck Chisora in July.”

Tickets for ‘Heavy Duty’ featuring Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Title, plus Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce go on sale at 12pm on Friday 10th May via AXS.com, Eventim and Ticketmaster and will be priced as below:

PETER FURY: “SAVANNAH MARSHALL IS THE NEXT BIG THING IN ENGLISH BOXING!”

London, UK (9 May 2019) The 29 year old super-middleweight – dubbed ‘The Silent Assassin’ due to her innate shyness – kickstarts her 2019 campaign at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse on Saturday 25th May, exclusively live on free-to-air Channel 5, and fight professor Peter expects it to be the start of a year in which the massively talented Hartlepool hope finally soars to stardom.

‘Savannah’s gonna be a spectacular addition to women’s boxing,’ insists Fury who groomed both son Hughie and nephew Tyson Fury to world heavyweight title fights from his bootcamp in Bolton.

‘She doesn’t mess around. She’s spiteful in her punches, exciting, always looks to break opponents down. Believe me, she carries genuine knockout power.

‘She also has a very good work rate and is an excellent technician. For me, she ticks all the boxes, a complete fighter. I can’t fault her.’

And coach Fury is adamant that England’s first ever female amateur world champion (2012) – who also topped the podium at the 2010 European Union and 2014 Commonwealth Games meets – is blossoming both individually and professionally as she embarks on this crucial phase of her ring career.

He continues: ‘Though Savannah’s a very private girl, she’s growing as an individual and she’s now very keen to ask me questions. She’s a really good student of the game. She listens intently and is always happy to experiment with new stuff and improve further.

‘The old shyness has gone. Now she knows what she wants and where she’s going. She’ll definitely fight for a world title in the next 12 months.’

Masterblaster Marshall has cruised to five straight wins since announcing herself to the profession on the Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor ‘Money Fight’ at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas 21 months ago.

Having registered a stylish four round shut-out that night, three victims have crumbled to her combustible fists inside two rounds. And the 5ft 11 ½ in sharpshooter conceded just one round on one judge’s card when skating to the WBA Inter-Continental strap by way of a terrific 10 round decision over unbeaten Argentine Yanina Orozco over in Bulgaria last October.

Now Fury is imbedding the final finishing touches that he is adamant can catapult sweet Savannah to global glory.

‘We’ve got her a nice six-twos tune-up on May 25th then, if we can get her another four or five fights before this year’s through, she’ll be ready for any of the middleweight or super-middleweight world champions early next year at the latest. She’ll be a multi-weight world champion,’ predicts Peter.

‘I’d give her an excellent chance against Clarissa Shields. Why not? She’s beat her before (en route to her world amateur gold in 2012).

‘Trust me, Savannah’s the next big thing in English boxing!

Promoted by Hennessy Sports, Channel 5 and Infinitum, in association with VIP Promotions, Hughie Fury headlines an action packed show on Saturday 25th May at the Victoria Warehouse, Manchester, when he takes on undefeated Canadian Chris Norrad. Exciting super-featherweight Alex Dilmaghani faces the hardened Martin Parlagi. Female super-middleweight sensation Savannah Marshall returns to action. Steve Brogan defends his Central Area Lightweight Championship against rival Adam Hague and completing the card will be Matty Fagan, Connor Lynch and Marcel Braithwaite.

Tickets priced at £40 & £70 are available from http://vipboxing.tv/shop/vip-tickets/hughie-fury-saturday-25th-may-victoria-warehouse/ and 01942 874 241

DUBOIS VS GORMAN SET FOR ‘HEAVY DUTY’ BLOCKBUSTER AT THE 02 ARENA ON JULY 13

Unbeaten British heavyweights Nathan Gorman and Daniel Dubois will fight for the vacant British heavyweight title on what will be a huge night of boxing at The O2, London on Saturday July 13 live and exclusive on BT Sport. The card will also feature unbeaten Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce MBE.

Just 21 and 22 respectively, Dubois and Gorman are recognised as two of the top young heavyweights in world boxing and the pair will now put their perfect professional records on the line with the coveted Lord Lonsdale belt at stake.

In a fight that bucks the trend of unbeaten boxers avoiding each other, Dubois v Gorman is the domestic heavyweight dust up that the fans have been crying out for. The O2, London is the place to be to watch it all unfold on July 13, a night of boxing that will be broadcast live and exclusive on BT Sport.

Dubois, for his part, insisted he had absolutely no reservations over accepting a marquee domestic encounter at this early stage of his development.

“As I have always said, whoever is put in front of me I have to go through them and that is what I have done so far.”

“As I proved in my last fight, I want to bring excitement to the heavyweight division for the fans and I promise it will be another explosive night on July 13th.

“I am very confident that I can knock anyone in the world out right now.”

“I would have fought Joe Joyce and now I will fight Gorman. I am confident in my own ability that I can deal with everyone out there and I’ve got what it takes to beat them.

“I believe I am way ahead and better than Gorman and on fight night I will prove it.

“There is no way he will stop me. I accepted this fight straight away and when Frank (promoter Warren) told me about it, it was on.”

Gorman, meanwhile, revealed his surprise that a fight that was tipped to take place at the end of the year or beyond has now become a summer showdown that he didn’t anticipate his heavyweight rival signing up for.

“I am very surprised, to be fair,” he confessed. “I was probably expecting it to be next year – in the summer time probably – and that is what I thought. When the phone call came it took me only a matter of seconds to say yes so it is nearly here now and only a couple of months away.

“I’m over the moon we’ve got the fight on. Fair play to Daniel, I didn’t think he would have accepted it, but he is obviously as keen as I am to fight. There should be plenty of excitement and a I’m sure the fans will love it.

“I can’t see it going 12 rounds and the plan is to go in there and stop him. The winner out of me and Daniel will proceed onto world honours, I’d imagine. The British title will propel you to the world stage.

“It is good for the fans to see the best prospects like me and Daniel fight each other. You can overcook a fight and I think we have now got it at the right time, I really do.

“Me or him didn’t have to take this fight, but why not? I believe it is the right time to make this fight.”

Hall of fame promoter Frank Warren added: “This is a mouth-watering big punching confrontation between two unbeaten young gladiators who have total self-belief in their respective talent.

“At a time that the heavyweight scene’s big three players are fighting in the States, the next generation are taking the stage at The O2 in London at prime time on BT Sport.

“Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman duke it out for the vacant British Heavyweight Title while Britain’s Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce will be looking to show why he was calling for that Anthony Joshua fight last month!

“Between these three giants they have 35 wins and are undefeated so you know this is heavyweight boxing at its best with fireworks guaranteed!

“Joe has a big fight on May 18th against the Russian giant Alexander Ustinov that he has to focus on. We are working with Joe’s team to find the right opponent to secure him a big fight on this fantastic night of heavyweight boxing.”

Media Workout: Miguel Berchelt-Francisco Vargas 2 and Emanuel Navarrete Isaac Dogboe 2 Headline “Twice as Nice” Show in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (May 8, 2019) – Two world title rematches and four blood-and-guts warriors are coming to Tucson Arena Saturday evening for “Twice as Nice,” one of the year’s most highly anticipated cards (ESPN and ESPN Deportes, 10 p.m ET/7 p.m. PT).

In the main event, WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel “El Alacran” Berchelt (35-1, 31 KOs) and Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas (25-1-2, 18 KOs) will look to repeat the thrills of their January 2017 match, won by Berchelt via 11th-round knockout. And, in the co-feature, Emanuel Navarrete (26-1, 22 KOs) will defend his WBO junior featherweight world title against Isaac Dogboe (20-1, 14 KOs), the man he defeated by unanimous decision to win the title back on Dec. 8.

After working out for the media Wednesday at Southwest Boxing Gym, this is what the fighters had to say.

Miguel Berchelt

“The people of Tucson and watching on ESPN are in for a great show. Vargas and I fought a great fight back in 2017, and our 2019 rematch will be no different. We are proud Mexican warriors who leave it all in the ring.”

“You will see the same ‘Alacran’ from the first fight with Vargas. I will enter the ring with a lot of desire to win and defend my title. I will defend this belt with everything that I have. This belt belongs to me.”

“The strategy is the same, which is to go out there to solve the problem that Vargas represents. I will leave it all in the ring. I will give all my heart to this battle.”

“Every time the ‘Alacran’ fights, it’s a guarantee that the fans will see a knockout.”

On a potential Lomachenko fight

“That is the fight we want. We want big challenges, without a doubt. I’d love to fight Lomachenko.”

Francisco Vargas

“I’ve been patient. I’ve been waiting for this fight for two years and now it’s finally here. It’s going to be a war. I did a few different things in preparation for this fight. I worked on different strategies, but we’ll see how the fight goes. You know, when two Mexicans get into the ring, they leave everything behind. My goal is to reclaim the world title.”

Emanuel Navarrete

On the first Dogboe fight

“It was a surreal moment when they announced me as the new champion. I was very happy to meet my goal, and now I am ready to defend the title successfully. It motivates me to know that the first fight was so good that everyone wants an immediate rematch.”

“This is a very attractive card. Many good fighters will be in action and you can’t ask for anything better than two world title rematches. I’m going to try and give the fans a big knockout win.”

Isaac Dogboe

“Navarrete couldn’t knock me out when I was at my worst, and now am I at my best. I am a much more fit boxer this time around, and it is my mission to become world champion once again. The ‘Royal Storm’ is back.”

“I have fought in Arizona before (first-round KO over Hidenori Otake in Glendale), and the fans there are tremendous. I know a lot of Mexican fans will be in attendance to see Navarrete, but I am coming for my title. He’s a nice guy and a great champion, but this is about redemption for me. I am ready to go to war.”

“I don’t see this as a distance fight. I am came coming for the knockout and to regain my title in spectacular fashion.”

TONY HARRISON VS. JERMELL CHARLO 2 LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LOS ANGELES (May 8, 2019) – WBC Super Welterweight Champion Tony “Superbad” Harrison and former world champion Jermell Charlo exchanged words at a heated Los Angeles press conference Wednesday ahead of their world championship rematch that headlines Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes Sunday, June 23 from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Lions Only Promotions, TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

Harrison and Charlo’s first encounter took place live on FOX in December as Harrison earned the decision and upset Charlo to earn the title. The close nature of the bout helped warrant an immediate rematch that promises to be just as highly charged and dramatic as before.

The drama from their first bout poured over into Wednesday’s press conference, as the fighters went forehead to forehead while facing off for media, neither looking to cede any ground in the build up to their rematch. Here is what the press conference participants had to say from The Conga Room in L.A. Live:

TONY HARRISON

“I’ve never been this motivated in my life to win a fight like how I am right now. At the end of the day, if my career would end, I would be cool stopping after this win.

“This fight is personal for me. What I’ve been through has made me into who I am. I’m not a pretender. When I come out here and put my life out on the line and you put your life out on the line, respect me as a man. I’m going to earn it again on June 23.

“Not everybody gets a chance to redeem their losses. But the fact that I took this should show how confident I am in beating Jermell again. I don’t need anyone to co-sign me because I’m confident in what I can do as a man and as a fighter.

“He’s really sparked me and got me motivated for this fight. The worst thing you can do is spark a guy from Detroit. He’s not the only one with a chip on his shoulder.

“Fighting is the toughest sport in the world. You have to sacrifice so much for it. You’ll go crazy if you don’t take time to do something else that you love to do. So that’s why every day I take time to do something that I love to do to take my mind off the physical strain and mental focus I put myself through.

“Growing up, I had a lot of guys I looked up to. If I didn’t have those guys to look up to, who motivated me and who believed in me and my talents, then I wouldn’t have been pushed into being something. It’s not about money. I’ll do it for free because I love the grind and the sacrifice.”

JERMELL CHARLO

“I’m coming to this rematch with a whole different mindset and a much better game plan. I took this loss like a wake up call and reminded myself why I’ve been doing this for all these years.

“I have respect for Tony and his father, but I think he knows that he didn’t do enough to win that fight. It was a robbery, but that just means I have the opportunity for redemption.

“I feel like I’m the people’s champ for fans all around the world. My popularity is still growing despite the robbery. I’m going to step into the ring and channel everything into a great performance.

“I want to start fast, but not necessarily faster than last time. He might come out and charge me and I’ll have to be on my counters. I’ll be ready to knock him out that way too.

“Overcoming the loss was easier than I thought. I enjoyed my little time off. I went back and learned some different things. I’m going to do some things way better on June 23.

“Tony knows exactly what happened in our fight. He knows he can’t beat me. I’m here to prove it again and leave no doubt.

“I’m dominating this fight. If he does make it to the 12th round, he’s going to be bruised and beat down.

“I’m leaving it all in the ring in this fight. I’ve got no distractions and everything is smooth heading into this one. I’m giving 110 percent. It’s going to be ruthless.”

ALI SALAAM, Harrison’s Father & Trainer

“We just want to defend our title and show the world that this was not an accident what happened in December.

“I believe that Tony is the best fighter in the division and on June 23, we’re going to prove it to the world again.”

DERRICK JAMES, Charlo’s Trainer

“These guys are both great champions and we believe that this is a perfect situation for us to come back and reclaim our title.

“This is all business for us. I want to see Jermell get the title back. Tony and his team are great people, but at the same time, I know what I want and what Jermell deserves to have.

“Jermell is going to be WBC Super Welterweight World Champion again. That’s what we want and that’s what we’re going to go out and get.”

BRITTANY GOOSSEN BROWN, VP of TGB Promotions

“We’re excited to be promoting this fight alongside Lions Only Promotions and Mayweather Promotions. The first fight closed out 2018 with a bang and we can’t wait to see what happens on June 23 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.”

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions

“This fight right here, I guarantee you, will be nothing but fireworks. The last fight was a fight that many thought was very, very close. But the beauty of this, come June 23, is that we get to see these guys do it all over again.

“In Tony’s case, coming in as the current champion, he knows he has got to be even better than he was the first time around to hold on to his title. He worked too hard and too long his entire life. He has the whole city of Detroit on his back and he is coming to defend what’s his.

“In Jermell’s case, he knows that it was a highly disputed loss and his mindset has been thinking of nothing else but Tony Harrison, day in and day out. I can imagine now and when he walks into that ring, he is going to be thinking about payback.

“What I love about both of these guys is that they do so much for their respective communities. They do a lot for kids and don’t want to let anyone or themselves down. This fight right here will be highly competitive and come June 23, the best man will come out on top.”

RAEESE ‘THE BEAST’ ALEEM RETURNS THIS FRIDAY AT THE 2300 ARENA IN PHILLY

LAS VEGAS, NV (May 8, 2019) – Undefeated super bantamweight prospect, Raeese Aleem (13-0, 7 KOs), who is managed by Greg Hannley of Prince Ranch Boxing, returns to the ring this Friday, May 10, 2019, at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Aleem will battle Mexico’s Ramiro Robles (15-8-2, 9 KOs) in an 8-round bout promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions. The fights can be seen on www.warfaresports.com at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT.

Aleem, who is trained by former two-time world champion, Bones Adams and veteran trainer Brandon Woods, is well prepared going into this fight. After his last fight fell through, Aleem, who has been training at the Prince Ranch Boxing facility in Las Vegas, feels he’s more then ready for this fight.

“I’ve been grinding hard in the gym for a fight that fell through last month, so I’m in great shape going into this fight,” said Aleem. “Robles is a tough fighter from Mexico that I know will be coming forward. This is the type of fight that I feel will be crowd pleasing to those watching. I consider myself a volume boxer-puncher who is always throwing a lot of blows. You’ll never see me in a boring fight, and I plan on letting my hands go this Friday against Robles.”

“Raeese Aleem is an incredibly talented fighter with a tremendous amount of upside,” said manager Greg Hannley, of Prince Ranch Boxing. “He’s working his way up the rankings with solid wins against good fighters. Marshall is doing a great job promoting Raeese and I can see him fighting for a regional title by the end of the year.”

“I’ve been working with Raeese for about a year now and he’s one of the hardest working fighters I have in the gym,” stated lead trainer Bones Adams. “Not only does he work hard, he can fight as well. He’s got the talent and work ethic to become a world champion if he continues on this path.”

20-Year-Old Logan Yoon Ready to Restart Meteoric Rise at ‘Rumble at the Rock V’ at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. on Friday, May 10

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (May 8, 2019)– Undefeated super lightweight Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon has recovered from a knee injury and is looking to restart the meteoric rise he had last year, when the 20-year-old held the WBO-NABO Youth Super Lightweight Championship as the WBO #13-rated world contender.

Yoon (15-0, 12 KOs), of Honolulu, Hawaii, will face Denver, Colo.’s, Robert Frankel (37-20-1, 8 KOs) in eight rounds this Friday, May 10, in one of the chief supporting bouts of the fifth installment of the popular Rumble at the Rock series “Night of the Undefeated” at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The event is presented by Kris Lawrence and The Heavyweight Factory.

In the 10-round main event, streaking undefeated, WBA No. 7-rated featherweight contender Hairon “El Maja” Socarras (21-0-3, 13 KOs) of Miami via Marianao, Cuba, will be looking for his second victory this year by taking on Florida via Monteria, Colombia’s Jesus Martinez (25-7, 12 KOs).

Tickets for “Rumble at the Rock V” cost $60, $100, $150 and $250 and are available for purchase through ticketmaster.com.

At the time of his injury in January, Yoon was training for his first nationally televised showcase against Richard Zamora on ShoBox: The New Generation.

“It was a bit of a downer because it was such a good opportunity,” said Yoon of the missed TV date. “But I know if I keep working hard, I’ll have another opportunity. During my recovery, I’ve kept my head up, and I’m ready to get back to it.”

The confident Yoon says he’s not expecting to work all eight rounds against Frankel.

“He’s an older fighter,” said Yoon. “He’s got some experience, but nothing about him really sticks out to me. He’s just another opponent. I will stop him within five rounds, no doubt. I give him respect, but I’ll go in there and do what I have to do. I can’t see any other outcome than me knocking him out.

Yoon was forced to relinquish his WBO-NABO Youth Super Lightweight Championship for missing weight last year but says the experience has taught him a valuable lesson.

“I was cheating on my diet and it cost me,” Yoon admitted. “It was my mistake for not being disciplined. I have no problem making the weight, and I’m totally on track for this one. Training was awesome. It’s been nothing but positive going in, and I feel stronger than I was the last couple fights because I don’t have to lose a lot of weight in such short time.”

In the night’s co-main event, Miami via Havana’s undefeated Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro (10-0, 7 KOs) will step up to face long-time gatekeeper Breidis Prescott (31-16, 22 KOs) of Miami via Barranquilla, Colombia in a welterweight 10-rounder. Navarro has scored KOs in seven of his last eight fights.

In a “can’t miss” crowd pleaser, Cuban super middleweight Irosvani Duvergel (5-0, 3 KOs) will face power puncher Lorawnt T Nelson (5-2, 4 KOs) of Colorado.

Making his second cruiserweight battle, fan favorite “Bad” Blake Davis (1-0) from Cooper City, Fla., will look to thrill fans when he faces Quintell Thompson (2-7-1, 2 KOs) of Columbia, Mo., over four rounds.

On fight night, the Hard Rock Event Center doors open at 6 p.m., and the action starts at 7 p.m. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood is located at 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood, Fla.

NOTTINGHAM JD NXTGEN PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Promoter Eddie Hearn:

“I’ve been looking to return to Nottingham for years and now we have the perfect chance to do it with Leigh Wood and a great line up of talent. It’s been nearly 7 years since that unforgettable night when Carl Froch dethroned Lucien Bute and we hope we can now put Nottingham back on the map as a more regular stop within the boxing calendar.

“We’ve been looking for a headline act to come back here with and the JD NXTGEN series gives the young fighters the opportunity to come out and headline shows. Leigh Wood has always had a strong following, he’s sold a huge amount of tickets and we’re going to have a great crowd in there on Friday.

“It’s a chance for Nottingham to have a resurgence in boxing and to have a resurgence as a city you need a local lad who can fight and who can win titles, and can go on potentially to fight for a World title. He’s got a really tough fight on Friday, it’s Nottingham against Manchester in Ryan Doyle, a former Commonwealth Champion. He’s here to win and we’re going to find out a lot about Leigh Wood.”

Raymond Ford – New Jersey, USA – 1-0 – fighting Aleksandrs Birkenbergs in a four round Super-Featherweight contest:

“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to come over here and perform for you guys in the UK. My pro debut was in Philadelphia, basically my home town. I had fun doing it. I’m trying to make this performance a whole lot better than my first performance. I just want to give thanks to God because without him none of this would be possible. I want to give thanks to my team, my mum, my uncle and a bunch of people that are behind me. I’m thankful and I’m ready to put on a great show for you guys.

“We know there’s a big fanbase over here. Boxing over here is like NFL football in the US so a lot of guys in the US definitely want to come over here to the UK and fight.”

Brad Daws – Carlton, Nottinghamshire – 3-0 – fighting Zigards Krauklis in a four round Featherweight contest:

“I’m really looking forward to boxing on this show. I’ve been watching Leigh Wood since I was a kid and it’s a massive honour to be on his undercard. It’s a massive undercard to be on. I used to go and watch Froch when I was a kid. I’m really looking forward to it. ”

Terri Harper – Denaby, Yorkshire – 6-0, 3 KOs – fighting Claudia Andrea Lopez in a ten round Lightweight contest:

“I think I’m showing what I’m here to do. I don’t want to be playing around. I want to be winning those World titles. I’m coming off a strong win against Nina Bradley back in March for the WBC International title. I experienced my first ten rounds and I got through it successfully. I’m going again Friday against Claudia Lopez, a tough opponent. So I’m going to take what I learnt back in March into the ring with me on Friday and hopefully come away successfully once again.

“I do feel like Lightweight is the right weight for me but while I’m young and can make Super-Featherweight I don’t see why not to move down in weight to win more titles. Katie Taylor and the like are making big movements for women’s boxing and she’s a big inspiration.”

Fabio Wardley – Ipswich, Suffolk – 6-0, 5 KOs – fighting Dennis Lewandowski in a six round Heavyweight contest:

“The opponent I’ve got on Friday is a good tough durable guy. That’s what me and my team have been looking for. We’ve been looking for someone who’s going to come and challenge me. My first few fights on Matchroom bills were good announcement fights, good to show off a small portion of my skillset. Yes I’ve got heavy hands and I can get people out of there early, I can put combinations together and things but now I want a test. I want someone that’s going to stand in front of me and and I’m going to hit them hard and they’ll keep on coming. I want that and I need that kind of testing. I need those questions answered within myself. I’m just looking forward to a good fight.

“It was my second time being out in Ukraine with Usyk and his team. I went over there for the first time in October of last year. Going out there for a second time was cool, it was just as good. Him and his whole team are all very nice, they’re all engaging and want to look after you and make sure that you’re settled in. You can’t get that type of sparring anywhere else in the World. You have to be so switched on. He’s such a thinker while he’s in the ring. There’s so many little things I can take away from his camp. I’ve been there a couple of times now and I’m comfortable with him and his team. It’s all knowledge and information that I can take home with me.”

Charles Frankham – Crowthorne, Bracknell Forest – fighting Tzemal Xouseinoglou in a found round Super-Featherweight contest on his professional debut:

“I can’t wait for my debut. Obviously I had a little issue with my boxing license but it’s been and long and hard camp and I’m ready to put on a show now on Friday night. It was a great win for John Ryder over the weekend, he looked unbelievable. The gym is buzzing at the minute so we’re all thriving off each other so it’s a great gym to be in.”

Dalton Smith – Sheffield, Yorkshire – fighting Luka Leskovic in a found round Super-Lightweight contest on his professional debut:

“I’m excited for my debut. It’s finally here now. It was a long process turning over. It’s been a good training camp and that’s all done now, I can concentrate on what I’m here to actually do and that’s fight on Friday. I’m very excited for it. This is a whole new challenge but like you say with the Olympic qualifications and stuff you put s much into it and it becomes a big part of your life but once you turn professional that’s all in the past and you kind of forget about it. It’s about focusing ahead and thinking about what’s in the future.

“I’ve got a good fanbase coming up and like you say it’s just about staying active. You learn a lot from staying active. As long as I stay active and fight regularly then I can see myself propelling quickly.”

Dave Coldwell, trainer of Jordan Gill:

“The key for Jordan at this stage of his career is to get the right fights for his development. I’m not in any particular rush to launch him into the elite World level, although he’s had 23 fights, the first 16 of those were just against guys that came in just to survive and not to win. Since we took on Jason Cunningham every fight from then has been a test for him and a step up for him. The things that we work on in the gym, he’s been performing in fights, and that’s the key about Jordan Gill – he’s somebody that you can work on and try things with. You can add things to his game. Devin Haney is seen as one of the World’s biggest prospects and a future star, Tinoco have him a good fight on short notice. Haney is a big puncher at Lightweight, he showed how tough he is. I’ve got nothing but massive respect for Tinoco and I know this is a threat and a dangerous fight for Jordan. These are the kind of fights that are going to develop him.”

Enrique Tinoco – Tijuana, Mexico – 17-5-4, 12 KOs – challenging Jordan Gill for the WBA International Featherweight title:

“Good afternoon. Thank you for this great opportunity. I feel very comfortable and very strong. I had a tremendous camp, I had little bit more time than usual. A lot of the time I only have two week’s notice, sometimes even less. I feel very strong and comfortable.

“It was a great experience boxing Devin Haney. I had no excuses and I lost the fight. He’s a tremendous athlete, as you all know he’s one of best right now, very clever. I had a week’s notice and I just went there and did my best.

“Let’s give the fight a tremendous fight. Let’s not run, let’s not box, let’s just give the fans a fight in the Mexican style, let’s stand there and trade punches and let’s put on a great fight for the fans.

Jordan Gill – Chatteris, Cambridgeshire – 23-0, 7 KOs – defending his WBA International Featherweight title against Enrique Tinoco:

“100 per cent I’ll be ready, if not sooner, as quick as you want to move me, I’m here to fight. This is why we’ve chosen such a tough opponent. I need those rounds, I need to be put under pressure. I need all these different experiences in the ring and I’m sure on Friday night Tinoco is going to ask a lot of questions from me.

“We’ve trained hard, it’s been an intense training camp, a short one and I’m glad to be here and back out again so quickly.

“That’s what he wants (me to fight like a Mexican), that’s what he’s going to get, but Dave’s just leaned over and said if I do ‘he’s going to kill me’ so I might have two fights on my hands on Friday night.

“But whatever is in front of me, I’ll deal with it. I’m looking to a good fight. I’m sure he’ll come and bring it and so will I. No matter what, whether we have a Mexican war for 12 rounds or box and move, or if I run around the ring like a chicken, everybody will be leaving that arena entertained.”

Ryan Doyle – Gorton, Lancashire – 17-3-1, 9 KOs – challenging Leigh Wood for the Commonwealth Featherweight title:

“I feel like I belong at this level now. I’ve shown it. I had the greatest night of my career beating Reece Bellotti and the worst losing to Jordan Gill but I believe I belong at this level and it’s where I want to stay. I’ve got a bit more experience than him and I’ve stayed more active than him. He’s a good fighter and he’s been around the game the same length of time as myself. He’s just not had the opportunities but come Friday I’m sure he’ll bring his best and the best man will win.

“I’ve had a great training camp. Everything has gone well. I’ve made some small adjustments. Everyone wrote me off for the Bellotti fight but I trained hard fo ritz’s and got the win. I’m in a similar position with this fight where people are writing me off again but every time I turn up I give an exciting fight and that’s what I’m in this business for.”

Leigh Wood – Gedling, Nottinghamshire – 21-1, 11 KOs – defending his Commonwealth Featherweight title against Ryan Doyle:

“I’m so excited. I have to keep calming myself down a bit, I’m getting too excited. I know I’m in a hard fight. Nobody has seen the best of me. I’ve not even been tested at Featherweight. There’s a reason I’ve not done 12 rounds yet, because I punch like f*ck. I’m in a good place mentally, physically. I’ve never had this momentum fight by fight. All of the hard work I’m putting in in the gym and pouring my heart into is paying off. I’m getting the fights to show what I can do as well.

“I’m going to come out on Friday and light up the arena. I want everyone to have a good night and I want to bring more of these shows back to Nottingham. I’m not a young kid. I’ve got experience in the game. I’m coming to please the crowd but I’m going to be sensible and smart. No doubt it’s going to be a career-best performance from myself. Ryan is established at this level but I want to go way past this level. On Friday Im going to prove it. I’m going to come out and box out of my skin. It’s going to be special.”

HUGHIE FURY TAKES ON UNDEFEATED CANADIAN CHRIS NORRAD ON MANCHESTER HOMECOMING

London, UK (8 May 2019) Hennessy Sports, Channel 5 and Infinitum, in association with VIP Promotions, are delighted to announce that former World Heavyweight title challenger Hughie Fury will make his long awaited return to the ring on Saturday 25th May at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, exclusively live on free-to-air Channel 5.

In the headline attraction the Manchester star will take on the undefeated Canadian Chris “The Natural” Norrad in a twelve round International Heavyweight contest, supported by rising star Alex Dilmaghani in an International Super-Featherweight contest and undefeated female sensation Savannah Marshall.

Fury has his first fight since his loss to Kubrat Pulev last October when he pushed the Bulgarian the full twelve rounds in Sofia – despite not been able to see out of his left eye from a cut in the second round – but lost on the judges scorecards. He will be aiming to return to the same destructive form that took him to the British title in May last year when he smashed Sam Sexton in five rounds.

This will be Fury’s first fight back in his home city of Manchester since his WBO World title challenge against Joseph Parker in September 2017 that ended controversially when many felt that Fury had beaten the New Zealander.

The 24-year-old, trained by father Peter, still has plenty of time on his side and aims to get back into World title contention, but first he must deal with Norrad from Boiestown, New Brunswick, who has amassed a perfect record of 17 wins, no losses and eight knockouts.

Fury said, “I can’t wait to get back into the ring in my home city of Manchester, I’ve missed fighting there and you can’t beat home support. It’s back to the drawing board, I know what I’ve got to do. The ambition to become World Champion is still burning fiercer than ever inside me and I believe that I will get there. It all starts again on the 25th May when I take on the unbeaten Norrad from Canada. It’s a crucial fight for me live on Channel 5 with millions watching and I know that a knockout performance will get the ball rolling again.”

Peter Fury added, “This is Hughie’s opportunity to show that he’s back and means business. We’ve been working very hard in the gym since the Pulev fight and we’re ready to go again. We need Hughie back to his best like he was against Sexton to really get his feet back on the comeback trail and banging on the door for a world title shot.”

Chief support on the card features the exciting and highly-avoided Alex Dilmaghani from Worthing, Sussex, who takes on the Czech Republic’s hardened Martin Parlagi. The 27-year-old southpaw has 18 wins and just one very early career points loss on his record and for the last five years has been plying his trade in Canada and Mexico – where he was Juan Manuel Marquez’s sparring partner for the Manny Pacquiao fights. He’s now ready to show just what he can do back on home soil as he pushes to get himself in contention for a world title opportunity.

One of the most exciting female boxers on the scene, the hard-hitting Savannah Marshall, makes her return to the ring as she edges closer to challenge for a World title. Marshall created history when in 2012 she become the first ever British female to win gold at the World Championship in China.

Also trained by Peter Fury, the 27-year-old from Hartlepool captured her first pro title last October when she defeated Yanina Orozco in Sofia to capture the Vacant WBA Intercontinental Super-Middleweight crown. Then in November she destroyed Klaudia Vigh in two rounds in Manchester to take her record to a perfect 5-0 with three knockouts.

A cracking trade fight on the card sees Skelsmerdale’s Steve Brogan defend his Central Area Lightweight Championship when he collides with Glossop rival Adam Hague.

Completing the card will be Ellesmere Port super-lightweight Matty Fagan, unbeaten Middleweight welterweight Connor Lynch and Liverpool featherweight Marcel Braithwaite.

Promoter Mick Hennessy said, “I’m delighted to partner with Channel 5, Infinitum and VIP Promotions for this show and it’s great to have Hughie back on the road towards the world title. I believe that he can be one of the very best heavyweights in the division and he has the tools, ability and youth on his side to become World Champion. He’s got an unbeaten fighter in Norrad in front of him and he’ll be coming over here up for the challenge and looking to cause an upset in defeating Hughie on his return. I’m really excited with the up-and-coming talent Alex Dilmaghani and believe that he could be a huge star and the talented and world class Savannah Marshall, is back in action and she is certainly one to watch. Finally, the show is backed up with Brogan versus Hague for the Central Area Lightweight title and Matty Fagan, Conor Lynch and Marcel Braithwaite on the undercard to make this a great night of boxing for the supporters.”

HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION DEONTAY WILDER LOOKS TO STEP INTO PANTHEON OF ALL-TIME HEAVYWEIGHT GREATS

BROOKLYN (May 8, 2019) – When WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder defends his title against mandatory challenger Dominic “Trouble” Breazeale on Saturday, May 18, he will not only seek to continue his run as the only American heavyweight champion, but also cement himself into the historic company of heavyweight legends that came before him.

In an event taking place live on SHOWTIME from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™, Wilder will attempt to defend his WBC title for the ninth time since first capturing the belt in January 2015. Wilder’s triumph marked the return of heavyweight prizefighting in America and the end of an eight-year drought without an American heavyweight world champion, the longest in the history of the sport.

“There has been a long line of great American heavyweight champions who represented our country with pride, strength and honor in the ring,” said Wilder. “I take the responsibility very seriously to pick up where they left off and continue to show every young fighter who looks up to me, that they one day can be the heavyweight champion of the world.

“I’m a champion of the world, but I represent for the entire country and everyone in it,” said Wilder. “I’ve fought challengers from all around the world, knowing in my mind how important it was to keep this title in the U.S.

If successful on May 18, Wilder will become just the 10th fighter in the more than 135-year history of heavyweight boxing to make nine or more consecutive successful heavyweight title defenses. Wilder would join an impressive list of Hall of Famers who dominated the sport during their reign – Tommy Burns, Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko and future Hall of Famer Wladimir Klitschko. *Note: number of title defenses listed below

“Fighters like Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and more have paved the way for me,” said Wilder. “Now I’m going to take what they started and make sure that the heavyweight world championship stays in America for a long time.”

Wilder’s successes in the ring have seen him skyrocket toward the kind of recognition that heavyweight champions have garnered throughout history. In 2018 he was ranked 34 on ESPN’s “World Fame 100” list, the top spot of any boxer in the world.

“Being the heavyweight champion and holding that title on the American sports landscape is a huge deal,” said Wilder. “There was a time where that person was as well-known as the president. I’m going to keep leaving a path of destruction inside the ring, so that everyone knows I am the one name and one face of the heavyweight division.”

List of fighters with nine consecutive heavyweight title defenses (listed chronologically):
1.) Tommy Burns (11)
2.) Joe Louis (25)
3.) Joe Frazier (nine)
4.) Muhammad Ali (nine in first run, 10 in second reign)
5.) Larry Holmes (20)
6.) Mike Tyson (nine in first run)
7.) Lennox Lewis (nine in second run)
8.) Vitali Klitschko (11 in second run)
9.) Wladimir Klitschko (18 in second run)
