ROBERT EASTER JR. AND RANCES BARTHELEMY MEET IN WBA LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT SATURDAY, APRIL 27 LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

LAS VEGAS – (March 29, 2019) – Former lightweight world champion Robert Easter Jr. and former two-division champion Rances Barthelemy will meet for the vacant WBA Lightweight Title on Saturday, April 27 live on SHOWTIME from The Chelsea inside of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING coverage begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and will also feature former super lightweight champion Viktor Postol taking on France’s Mohamed Mimoune in a WBC super lightweight title eliminator, while rising heavyweight sensation Efe Ajagba looks to remain unbeaten against once-beaten German Michael Wallisch in a 10-round heavyweight attraction.

Easter vs. Barthelemy pits two highly skilled and explosive former 135-pound champions against each other as they look to grab a title and vault themselves back into the top echelon of the lightweight division.

Easter will return to the ring for the first time since losing his IBF title in a unification showdown with WBC Champion and pound-for-pound great Mikey Garcia last July on SHOWTIME. Barthelemy is undefeated at 135 pounds and returns to the lightweight division for his second fight since losing a 140-pound title rematch to Kiryl Relikh last March on SHOWTIME.

“Two former champions looking to reclaim their championship status speaks for itself in terms of the action and will to win that Easter and Barthelemy will bring on April 27,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “Both guys have already proven that they have what it takes to take care of business at this level. The eliminator bout, with Postol bringing his experience and Mohamed looking to take advantage of the opportunity, is a great lead-in to the main event attraction. Plus, Efe Ajagba will bring his A+ game in pursuit of a victory over Michael Wallisch. The fans in attendance at the Cosmopolitan here in Las Vegas, and tuning in on SHOWTIME, are in for a treat.”

“Easter vs. Barthelemy is a true 50-50 fight that will end with one of these fighters leaving the ring with one of the top spots in the lightweight division,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Both are former world champions at lightweight and possess the styles and attributes that should make this an action-packed match. Combined with a very competitive title eliminator between Viktor Postol and Mohamed Mimoune, plus the can’t-miss punching power of Efe Ajagba, this is going to be a dramatic night on SHOWTIME and at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions in association with About Billions Promotions, go on sale Monday, April 1, and can be purchased at www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com or through Ticketmaster.

The 28-year-old Easter (21-1, 14 KOs) won the IBF Lightweight Championship in 2016 by edging an exciting split-decision against then-unbeaten and current IBF titleholder Richard Commey. After two successful title defenses in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, Easter defeated former champion Javier Fortuna by decision in a January 2018 fight in SHOWTIME.

That victory set up a unification with WBC champion Mikey Garcia, in which Easter survived an early knockdown to push Garcia the full 12 rounds before coming up short on the scorecards. At 5-foot-11, Easter has continued to show the combination of size, skill and athleticism that made him a highly regarded prospect following an amateur career that featured a spot as an alternate on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

“I’ve wanted to fight Barthelemy since he had the lightweight title and vacated it, and now I have the chance,” said Easter. “He has an awkward style and I’m up for that challenge. I am still coming in as the taller fighter with a reach advantage and I’ll use it to make this fight go how I want it to. He is a former world champion and he is coming to bring it just like I am.”

A decorated Cuban amateur who hails from a boxing family that includes his older brother, Olympic Gold Medalist Yan, and younger brother, unbeaten featherweight Leduan, Rances Barthelemy (27-1, 14 KOs) will return to lightweight to vie against one of the best fighters in the division. The 32-year-old now trains in Las Vegas and previously captured a 135-pound belt by defeating Denis Shafikov in December 2015.

Barthelemy won a 130-pound championship by defeating Argenis Mendez in 2014 and attempted to become the first Cuban three-division champion when he moved up to 140-pounds for his first fight against Relikh, a title eliminator that he won by decision. After dropping the rematch to Relikh in a vacant title fight on SHOWTIME, Barthelemy returned to the ring in December and stopped Robert Frankel.

“I’m looking forward to a great fight against Robert Easter Jr,” said Barthelemy. “I know I have what it takes to beat him and capture another title and become a three-time world champ. My best performances have come at 135 pounds. Both of us are former world champions who are hungry and will give the fans a sensational night of boxing. I’ve never lost at lightweight and that will continue on April 27. Don’t miss this fight on SHOWTIME. It’s now or never!”

Originally from Ukraine, but now fighting out of Los Angeles, Postol (30-2, 12 KOs) previously earned a 140-pound world title by knocking out Lucas Matthysse in 2015. The 35-year-old dropped the title in a unification showdown with Terence Crawford in 2016 before bouncing back by defeating then unbeaten Jamshidbek Najmiddinov. Last June he dropped a decision to unbeaten contender Josh Taylor and most recently he defeated Siar Ozgul in November.

The 31-year-old Mimoune (21-2, 2 KOs) has fought professionally since 2010 and will be making his U.S. debut against Postol on April 27. Representing Haute-Garonne, France, he is unbeaten in his last 10 fights dating back to 2014. His last five victories have come in 12-round decisions, including two last year over then unbeaten Emiliano Dominguez and most recently against Franck Petitjean.

Nigeria’s Ajagba (9-0, 8 KOs) gained notoriety last August 24 when his opponent, Curtis Harper, walked out of the ring after touching gloves to start the first round. The 24-year-old, 2016 Nigerian Olympian won the fight without throwing a punch as Harper was disqualified. In his last fight Ajagba, who lives in Stafford, Texas and trains with Ronnie Shields, defeated his toughest competition to date by stopping longtime contender Amir Mansour after two rounds.

Fighting out of Munich, Germany, Wallisch (19-1, 12 KOs) won his first 19 pro fights after turning pro in 2010, including a German heavyweight title-winning performance in 2013 against Alexander Kahl. The 33-year-old fought three times last year, picking up two knockout victories before losing to Christian Hammer in December.

HENDERSON VS. ROBINSON NAMED “2018 PHILLY FIGHT OF THE YEAR”

PHILADELPHIA – Of the 114 total bouts that took place in the City of Philadelphia in 2018, the final main event of the year proved to be the best. The dramatic and grueling battle between Upper Darby super middleweight Brandon Robinson and out-of-towner Kalvin Henderson of Arkansas, was voted by fans as the “2018 Philly Fight of the Year”. Both Henderson and Robinson will be in attendance at the Briscoe Awards on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Xfinity Live! in South Philly, to receive their awards.

“I am honored to be selected for an accomplishment like the Bennie Briscoe award,” Henderson said. “I go out in every fight and give my all, not only win, but do it in an entertaining fashion.”

The Fight of the Year occurred on December 7th after a contentious build up, and the fighters entered the ring with much to prove. Robinson started fast, but before he knew it, his left eye was marked and beginning to swell. Eventually, Henderson closed Robinson’s eyes and ultimately scored a TKO in round seven. However, Robinson fought hard to turn the tables, and in doing so, the pair created the best fight of the year.

“I had not heard of the Briscoe Awards before my nomination,” Henderson said. “But after I researched, I found it is a very prestigious award. This marks a milestone in my career! ”
Henderson and his team will travel from Arkansas to accept his Briscoe Award. Team Robinson will also be in attendance.

The awards, named after Philly middleweight boxing legend Bennie Briscoe, have been recognizing the best achievements of the Philly boxing scene since 2007.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Xfinity Live! in South Philadelphia (1100 Pattison Avenue), 1-4 PM. Tickets for the Briscoe Awards cost $10 each, and can be purchased in advance at BriscoeAwards.com, or by calling 609-377-6413.

“I’M THE SECOND BIGGEST NAME IN THE FLYWEIGHT DIVISION AND I SHARE THE SAME LAST NAME AS THE BIGGEST!” – SUNNY EDWARDS

Although reigning as WBO European & International champion at super flyweight, 10-0 Croydon man Sunny Edwards is very open to boxing at the weight division below, like his brother WBC World Champion, Charlie.

The 23-year-old managed to put a significant marker down in the professional ranks in 2018, with wins over former European bantamweight champion Ryan Farrag and then later the big-hitting Mexican Junior Granados

“My Farrag fight got me out there a lot more, then Granados was to prove to my management team and my promotional team that I am actually the real deal and not just a mouthpiece who is calling for these fights.

‘Showtime Sunny’, who became a father just ten days before the fight with Granados, explains that preparation heading into that fight was not the best.

“My baby came along ten days before my Granados fight and I spent two days at the hospital, which was not the best prep, with only having two or three spars as well.

“A week later Charlie won his world title so it was just a great end to the year for the whole family and we finished with such a buzz, with the baby’s first Christmas to top it off.”

Edwards, who returns to the ring to defend his WBO International and European Super Flyweight titles at the SSE Arena, Wembley on April 27, is now back on his feet after an injury in the Granados fight resulted in him joining the walking wounded.

It came about when he was plonked on the canvas for the first time in the second round and ruled him out of action. Now he is determined to make up for lost time at his training base in Sheffield.

“The only low point for me was I suffered an injury in the Granados fight and ruptured two ligaments when I went down in the second. I still got through it and then had eight weeks out doing nothing and was on crutches for four of them in a boot.

“I’ve picked it back up now and I am ready and raring to go.”

Asked if he would consider a move down to flyweight, where his brother campaigns – the former Team GB member responded ‘I’m the second biggest name in the flyweight division… and I share the same last name as the biggest!’

Daniel Dubois v Richard Lartey tops the bill at the SSE Arena, Wembley on April 27 on a card that also includes the Commonwealth super middleweight title fight between Lerrone Richards and Tommy Langford, as well as the Southern Area super middleweight title clash between Zak Chelli and Jimmy Smith. WBO European super flyweight champion Sunny Edwards and WBO European super featherweight champion Archie Sharp also feature.

Rangy Super Welterweight talent Hamzah Sheeraz will be back out after his impressive win over Rod Douglas Jnr. Hard hitting middleweight and Peacock gym product Denzel Bentley (9-0) and Belfast amateur middleweight star Caoimhin Agyarko will also return to action. There are Queensberry debuts for unbeaten welterweight Chris Kongo (10-0) and Sheffield middleweight Shakiel Thompson (2-0) – with Thompson being tipped by sparring partner Billy Joe Saunders as a star for the future. Ilford Super Middleweight Umar Sadiq (4-1) also returns as he looks to rebuild after his first career loss. Tunde Ajayi trained lightweight Bilal Ali (1-0) will have his second professional fight after making a successful start to his pro career, with Hoddesdon super lightweight Alfie Price set for his fifth.

Tickets will be priced as £40, £50, £75, £100 and £150 and are now ON SALE to purchase via Eventim, Ticketmaster, the SSE Arena website and AXS.com.

Kendo Castaneda was “Tremendo” Defeats Eudy Bernardo by decision, Improves to 16-0

SAN ANTONIO (March 29, 2019) – Undefeated San Antonio super lightweight Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda out-classed and out-boxed Eudy “AK47” Bernardo cruised to a 10-round unanimous decision triumph in last night’s (Thursday, Mar. 28) main event on the RJJ Boxing on UFC Fight Pass® pro boxing event, at Cowboy Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas.

Presented by Castaneda’s promoter, Roy Jones Jr (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, and San Antonio–based Leija Battah Promotions, last night’s show was a sell out filled with local favorite Castaneda’s loyal, passionate fans.

The 25-year-old Castaneda (16-0, 7 KOs), the reigning North American Boxing Association (NABA) champion, is ranked No. 14 in the world by the World Boxing Association (WBA). Last night, he easily notched his 16th pro win in a one-sided fight, evident by the judges’ scoring (99-91, 98-92, 97-93), against his usually dangerous Dominican opponent.

“I give my performance a solid 8,” Castaneda said after the right. “I out-boxed the guy and slapped him around all night. I really wanted the knockout, but Bernardo was mainly in a defensive mode all night. He did not live up to his ‘AK47′ nickname and let his hands go. I tip my hat to the guy, though. At the end of the day, he impressed me with his rugged toughness and engagement to survive the 10 rounds.

“I’m ready to do what I do and get back to work and continue the good fight. And I’m glad to go 10 rounds, so I have more rounds to study myself and sharpen up my craft. Big thanks to God and to my people of San Antonio, Texas.”

In the co-featured event, Austin, TX lightweight John Arellano (10-1, 9 KOs) needed to win the last two rounds on two of the judges’ scorecards to narrowly take a hard-fought, 8-round split decision (76-75, 76-75, 73-78) over previously unbeaten Xavier Wilson (10-1-1, 1 KO), of Baltimore. It marked the first win for Arellano in which he went the distance.

San Antonio lightweight Joseph “Mongoose” Rodriguez (15-0-1, 2 KOs) kept his unbeaten pro record intact with a 6-round split decision versus a game Darryl Hayes (6-13), of Houston. Rodriguez also needed to win the last two rounds on two judges’ scorecards to earn his win.

In the FIGHT PASS opener, San Antonio super bantamweight prospect Henry “World Star” Arredondo (3-0, 1 KO) knockout out his Mexican opponent, Jahaziel Vazquez (2-10, 1 KO), in the second round.

Fighting on the non-streamed part of the card, San Antonio super welterweight Raymond Guajardo (1-0, 1 KO) turned in an impressive pro-debut, knocking out fellow Texan Leonardo Mendez (0-1), also making his pro debut, in the second round.

Houston welterweight Jerrico “Hands of Stone” Walton improved to 12-0 (7 KOs), pitching a shutout for a 4-round unanimous decision (40-36 X 3), over Juan Rodriguez (8-14-1, 6 KOs), of Virginia.

WORLD RANKED WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER KERMAN “THE REVOLVER” LEJARRAGA FACES FORMER WORLD CHAMPION DAVID AVANESYAN TOMORROW NIGHT IN BILBAO, SPAIN

Bilbao, Spain (March 29, 2019) Welterweight contender Kerman “The Revolver” Lejarraga (27-0, 22 KOs) returns to the ring tomorrow, March 30, battling former world champion David Avanesyan (23-3-1, 11 KOs), of Tabynskoe, Russia, in front of an expected massive crowd at the Bilbao Arena in Bilbao, Spain. The 12-round clash with Lejarraga defending his EBU European Welterweight Title is promoted by MGZ Promotions, who co-promotes Lejarraga with DiBella Entertainment.

A huge star in Spain, the 27-year-old Lejarraga is currently world ranked #2 by the WBC, #3 by the IBF, and #5 by the WBA and WBO. The heavy-handed star scored three knockouts in 2018. Most recently, he stopped longtime contender Frankie Gavin in the fourth round on November 17, 2018.

Lejarraga will be facing his toughest opponent in Avanesyan, with the Russian holding victories against “Sugar” Shane Mosley, for the interim WBA Welterweight World Title, and Kaizer Mabuza. Additionally, he has recently battled former world champion Lamont Peterson and top contender Egidijus Kavaliauskas in very close fights.

“This is the biggest fight of my career and I feel great,” said Lejarraga. “I’ve had a long, hard training camp and have left nothing to chance after more than 150 rounds of sparring. It has been the best training camp of my career.”

“Kerman looks faster and sharper than he ever has,” stated Inigo Herbosa, of MGZ Promotions. “He sparred with some top-15 world ranked boxers for this fight and did very well. He will make a statement knocking out Avanesyan inside of six rounds and all of the top fighters in the welterweight division will take notice. He is ready for the big names.”

“Avanesyan is another huge test for Kerman at what will be a sold-out arena in Spain, where Lejarraga is a massive star,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Following a win on Saturday night, I want to bring him to the United States for a step-up fight against a known opponent, and then position him for a world title shot in late 2019 or early 2020. I fully believe that he can beat many of the top names in the deep and talented welterweight division.”

BIYARSLANOV PENS DEAL WITH MATCHROOM BOXING USA

Arthur Biyarslanov has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing USA.

The Canadian amateur star has blasted his way to 2-0 with two first round KOs on debut in December in Toronto and in his second outing in Ontario in February.

The 23 year old five-time Canadian champion, 2015 Pan-American champion and 2016 Rio Olympian holds an incredible backstory, having fled war-torn Chechnya with his family when he was four years old, and then landing in Canada from Azerbaijan in 2005 as a ten year old – falling in love with boxing after his brother took him to the gym to learn self-defense.

The ‘Chechen Wolf’ cannot wait to box for the third time as a pro with new promoter Eddie Hearn, and a date for his next fight will be announced soon.

“I have always wanted to be part of the best organizations in the world and now I have got the chance to showcase my talents on DAZN,” said Biyarslanov. “I am very happy to join Matchroom Boxing USA. Together with my team and manager Keith Connolly, I believe I can get to the top and I cannot wait for my third pro fight and building to some massive nights in the future.”

“I am delighted to welcome Arthur to the team,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Arthur had a fantastic amateur career and he’s started his pro journey in explosive fashion with two first round KO wins. He’s a 23 year old talented puncher with a great future ahead of him and I can’t wait to watch his journey with us, live on DAZN.”

WBC SILVER SUPER-WELTERWEIGHT TITLE ON THE LINE FOR SMITH VS. EGGINGTON

The vacant WBC Silver Super-Welterweight title will be on the line when Liam Smith and Sam Eggington clash at The M&S Bank Arena Liverpool tomorrow evening, shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Smith became Liverpool’s first World Champion in over 20 years when he stopped American John Thompson to claim the WBO Super-Welterweight crown at the Merseyside arena in 2015 before making a second successful defence of the title against Predrag Radosevic at the same venue in 2016.

‘Beefy’ hasn’t fought in his home city since and is itching to get back under the lights as he sets about winning back a version of the World title he bravely lost against pound-for-pound star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Texas in 2016, and in doing so becoming the city’s first two-time World Champion.

Former European Welterweight Champion Eggington knows he is fighting for his career after suffering a shock stoppage defeat to Tanzania’s Hassan Mwakinyo at Arena Birmingham in September, but insists he will thrive off his underdog tag.
“I’m massively excited for my fight with Sam and I feel it’s a good fight to kick-start my 2019,” said Smith. “It’s even better now there’s a good title on the line for us. I’m just looking to put on a performance for people to think ‘he was a level above’.”

“I’m excited,” said Eggington. “It doesn’t take a genius to know that I’m the underdog in this fight. I quite like it like that. Nothing to lose, everything to win, so I’m looking forward to Saturday night. I’ve put what I can into camp for a tough, hard fight, and on Saturday night I’ll put it all out there.”

Smith vs. Eggington tops a huge night of action in Liverpool.

Former Great Britain teammates Anthony Fowler and Scott Fitzgerald look to settle their longstanding feud in a dynamite Super-Welterweight clash.

Domestic Super-Lightweight rivals Joe Hughes and Robbie Davies Jr meet with the European and British titles on the line.

Popular Heavyweight David Price takes on the unbeaten Kash Ali in his first fight in Liverpool for nearly there years as he looks to make a fresh charge on the Heavyweight division.

Liverpool’s Tom Farrell challenges Leytonstone’s Philip Bowes for the Commonwealth Super-Lightweight crown.

There’s also action for rising Liverpool Cruiserweight talent Craig Glover, ‘Miss GB’ Natasha Jonas and undefeated Super-Lightweight Ged ‘G-Man’ Carroll.

AWKWARD? WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO KID?

JOSH WARRINGTON HAS mocked the suggestion that his June 15 world title challenger Kid Galahad is an awkward customer in the ring.

The Yorkshire pair – Warrington from Leeds and Galahad hailing from Sheffield – will trade shots for the IBF featherweight belt at the FD Arena in Leeds and the world champion completely rejects the train of thought that the tricky approach of his mandatory challenger will present him with punching puzzles he is unable to solve.

“People talk about him being awkward… He is awkward if you f**king let him be!” scoffed the Leeds Warrior, who holds a perfect professional record of 28-0. “I don’t see him as awkward and we have already looked at ways we can nullify that.”

The 28-year-old continued by adding there is no supporting evidence to back up Galahad’s claim to be a featherweight force who will inflict a one-sided ‘beatdown’ to rip the title from its present owner.

“He isn’t an awkward fighter, he believes he is a super-strong this, that and the other. What are you going off? The muppets he has knocked over? The Eastern European taxi drivers… Come on man.

“I’ve proven that I can stand at the top level in terms of toe-to-toe, physicality as well. I don’t think he has, so we have yet to see, but I don’t think he is as strong as me. I don’t think any featherweight in the world is.”

Meanwhile, Warrington is also tiring of the notion that he is a sort of one-trick pony with the single asset of possessing long-life batteries; although he does acknowledge an upside in that his wider skillset is ignored by the opposition.

“People talk about me as if I just have this fantastic engine. Yeah, I do have a good engine, but it is a positive that they don’t look at what else I do too much and I know I can adapt.

“Lee Selby and Carl Frampton are two very different fighters and I was able to adapt, like I was on my road up to a world title, boxing different folk of different sizes and styles.

“I’m experienced and know how to do the 12 rounds well.”

A top quality undercard will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

ZAK CHELLI’S DOUBLE LIFE AS A BOXER AND A BRAIN BOX

UNBEATEN super-middleweight Zak Chelli is spending time in the gym and class room preparing for his next big boxing examination.

The Fulham fighter challenges for his first professional title at SSE Arena, Wembley on Saturday April 27 when he meets Slough’s Jimmy Smith (7-1) for the vacant Southern Area title.

Besides preparing for his title test, live on BT Sport, Chelli is completing a BA in Business Management and Marketing at University of Surrey.

He is adamant his boxing career isn’t suffering, explaining: “The course is flexible so I can get my training done. A lot of my lectures are online which helps.

“I am doing four hours boxing training every day and four hours studying. It has been like that since my SATs, GCSEs and A-levels.

“I don’t have social time at university. A lot of them do stuff at night but I am sleeping.”

One rival he isn’t losing sleep over is Ilford’s Umar Sadiq who he outpointed in a serious needle match last October.

Sadiq (4-1) returned to winning ways in early March and will be in action on Frank Warren’s stacked Wembley card.

He is itching for a return against his bitter rival, but Chelli scoffed: “Sadiq likes to mention my name a lot and speak rematches. He needs the rematch and I don’t.

“He has nothing to offer. If he has a title, I will go for it, but at the moment he has nothing.”

We will now introduce today’s participants on the conference call and then follow up with some questions and answers. At this point, we want to hear from the challenger himself. Please welcome Dennis Hogan, the No. 1 challenger for the WBO Junior Middleweight world title to make some comments. Dennis?

DENNIS HOGAN: Yeah, how you doing? I just want to say thank you very much for the call. I appreciate everyone dialing in, and I want to let everyone know, as he said, my dream of becoming a world champion is very strong, and I’ve been doing everything in training, ticking all the boxes and doing everything right to make that happen. Training has been going extremely well. I’ve got laser focus and I see myself lifting that title on April 13th in México. I appreciate everyone’s support that I’ve had so far, and I’m looking forward to getting even more after this point. Thank you.

ROBERT GASPARRI: Dennis, thank you so much. Now we want to introduce the trainer, who is recognized for having trained some of the best fighters in boxing. He also trained our chairman and CEO at Golden Boy Promotions Oscar de la Hoya. Now he is training Jaime Munguia as he prepares him to make his exciting fight for this young star. Please welcome Robert Alcazar to make some comments. Robert?

ROBERT ALCAZAR: Hi, yes, thank you. How are you, everybody? We’re working hard with Jaime Munguia every day. Jaime Munguia is ready, and Jaime Munguia is going to be ready for the 13th. We’re just basically waiting for the day, and everything is going well for us.

ROBERT GASPARRI: Last but not least, let’s hear a few comments from the WBO World Champion himself. Please welcome rising Mexican star Jaime Munguia to say a few words. Jaime?

JAIME MUNGUIA: Good morning, everyone. I’m very happy and I feel ready. I’m prepared for this next fight, and thank you all for joining on this conference call.

ROBERT GASPARRI: We’re going to now open it up for some questions from the media. Media, can you please address your question, and Gabe will translate for English and Spanish.

Q. Good morning, everybody. My question is to Jaime. Where do you see yourself or where would you rank yourself among the Junior Middleweight belt holders that include Jarrett Hurd and Tony Harrison?

JAIME MUNGUIA: I would consider myself No. 1. The truth is, and with all due respect, and I’m saying it with as much humility as possible, that I feel like I consider myself No. 1.

Q. So if you beat Dennis Hogan on April 13th, what fight would you like next afterwards?

JAIME MUNGUIA: I have no one in mind right now. I’m simply going to keep fighting, keep fighting good opponents like Dennis Hogan, but that’s a question for my promoter Fernando Beltran.

Q. Jaime, last year you nearly got the Gennady Golovkin fight. How do you think that fight would have gone last year as opposed to now?

JAIME MUNGUIA: Look, I don’t know. I can say that I have the mentality of going forward and always feeling that I will get my hand raised in victory, so I feel I would have won, but nobody really knows what would have happened.

Q. How does it feel to fight in México, now returning as a superstar there, and knowing full well that Monterrey is going to be paralyzed that night? It’s going to be at a standstill to expect you as a star.

JAIME MUNGUIA: It’s good to talk to you. The truth is I’m very happy to be coming back to México as a world champion. This is the last place where I fought before I became a world champion and made all of my defenses. So it’s very exciting to be coming back to México, coming back to Monterrey. It’s great. I love — the city has a great love for boxing, and I’ll be coming with all the desire to not disappoint the fans and give a good fight.

Q. Now the same for Robert Alcazar; how does it feel to be taking Munguia back to México?

ROBERT ALCAZAR: I’m excited to have this opportunity to be back in our home country. What better way than with a world champion in this city, Monterrey. It’s a city that’s very nice and has a great love for boxing, and we’re going to make sure that we give the best of us. We’re going to make sure that we give a great show and a great fight, and there’s lots of emotion involved. I’m very happy for the opportunity, and our promoters are giving us to be taking us to this country, to Monterrey, where it is very nice, and I want to say it’s an extra motivation and that we will not disappoint.

Q. It’s often asked to GGG, being on DAZN, if you had had a good offer, would you have fought Munguia, and he says, yeah. So would you guys if you had the opportunity to fight someone like GGG if given the opportunity?

JAIME MUNGUIA: Yes, we would be interested in that fight with GGG now that he is on DAZN. The truth is it would be a good fight for us and for the people. One year ago it couldn’t happen, but now obviously it’s a possibility, and if a year ago I felt ready, now I feel even more ready. So with pleasure we would accept the fight, but right now I’m focused on the fight that I have on April 13th, but after that with pleasure we would take this fight.

ROBERT ALCAZAR: There are plans. There are plans to have this fight, but first we have to go through this fight. But there are future fights. It will be one of those future fights. Of course you would like to have the biggest fights out there, and if GGG is the next fight, then it’s the next fight. But my part is to have Munguia ready so that when the promoter calls and asks him to fight somebody that he is ready to take on any challenge that the promoter decides is best for him.

Q. Jaime, I wanted to know, I see that you added a new trainer to your team with Fernando Fernandez and a nutritionist. I know in the past you’ve spoken about moving up to 160 pounds rather soon, so with this addition, I’m wondering if you’re going to be planning on staying at 154 a bit longer than you were thinking just a few months ago?

JAIME MUNGUIA: I do have plans to move up to 160 pounds, maybe next year or for the next fight or maybe by the end of the year. The truth is we are still saying that, but I feel good, and I feel good making 154 for this fight that I have on April 13th. But we are considering a move up to 160.

Q. Dennis, I’d like to get your thoughts on this great opportunity that you have in hand of becoming the next world champion. What would it mean to you?

DENNIS HOGAN: Obviously it’s a dream of mine my whole life, but the last eight years I’ve just narrowed down and I’ve been doing everything possible to make this a reality. The last couple of years I’ve really gave everything, I’ve given my heart and soul in my training to make this a reality, and I do believe in a couple of weeks I will make that happen.

I’m just — the hunger I have for this World Championship belt is like nothing I’ve ever known before, and when I’ve found narrowed in focused on something I really want, I can achieve anything, so I know I can achieve this and get the win. I have as good a team around me, we’re ticking all the boxes, and I have nothing but supreme confidence. It means the world to me and my family and my team to lift that belt for them and for myself.

Q. When you look at Jaime Munguia and you study his past few fights, for example, against Takeshi Inoue, do you see any weaknesses in his game that you feel like you can exploit on fight night?

DENNIS HOGAN: You know, every single fighter will do little things here and there that you can exploit. I mean, even a fighter that doesn’t make many mistakes, there’s still a game plan you can work out to beat that fighter. So without saying too much about whatever holes Munguia may be making, we certainly have developed a game plan to be able to defeat his style, and whatever it is that anyone brings to the table. I’m always supremely confident in my ability, and the game plan we worked out after Smith has — we’ve been working on that since then, and everything that we’ve seen since correlates with that plan that we’ve made. I’ve been ticking the boxes in training and making sure I can execute that plan, and that’s why right now I’m supremely confident I’ll be world champion April 13th.

Q. My question is for Dennis Hogan. I wanted to know, there’s a lot of attention placed on Munguia everywhere he goes or everywhere both you guys go, but it seems like a lot of attention is on him. A ton of the questions go to him. Even a ton of people on this line are really talking about a matchup with him against GGG. Do you in any way feel disrespected or do you feel like everybody including Munguia is overlooking you?

DENNIS HOGAN: To be honest, no. I’ve been the underdog a lot in my career. I understand where it’s at, and I know that — I understand that all the pressure will be on Munguia going back to México and having to fight there.

You know, whatever way he deals with that, I don’t believe that that’s a major strength in my game plan anyway. My game plan is set, and I’m ready to do whatever it takes.

But you know, that’s boxing; it’s a business as much as a sport, and everyone is looking to see what the biggest fights can be made, so I understand it is what it is. But I am here to make an upset, and with that I have a lot of confidence. So I enjoy people asking who he’d like to fight next because when other names are being mentioned, they’re probably the names I’ll be fighting next.

Q. Dennis, kind of piggy-backing off what I just said, there’s probably going to be a ton of pressure on Munguia to perform, especially with things being in Mexico City. You on the other hand could probably come in, be a little bit more relaxed. You only have one loss on your record. Do you feel that that added pressure on him can probably affect him negatively in the fight, and since you pretty much feel that you probably don’t have any pressure at all, it’ll probably just give you the opportunity to go out there, do what you want to do and just box?

DENNIS HOGAN: Yeah, you know, you’re correct in that. I will just get out there and be relaxed in that sense. But I will start hard and fast, also, but ultimately I will be relaxed.

Look, I was first mentioning, I know what it’s like to have that pressure, and whether or not Munguia can deal with that is all good, but that’s not something that we’re relying on. But you know, it’s a big stadium. There’s a lot of people there, and it will be interesting to see what way that makes Munguia fight or what way it goes, but again, we’ve got all the boxes ticked. So either way, it is what it is.

Q. Jaime, you’re becoming a really good star ever since you were mentioned with GGG. You’ve just gained a lot of traction and a lot of fans and you’ve performed really, really well. I wanted to know, you’re pretty big for 54. Do you see yourself continuing at that weight? Are there any issues making 54, or do you see yourself moving up to 60 within the next year or so, or do you not plan on moving up until you collect all of the belts essentially?

JAIME MUNGUIA: Yes, you have seen I’m big for 154 pounds. It does take some work to do it, but I’ve figured it out pretty well and gotten used to it, but it’s inevitable. I don’t know if it’s going to be for my next fight or by the end of the year, but I will be moving to 160 pounds.

Q. This is kind of a two-parter. Since you acknowledged that you will be moving up to 160 fairly soon into the future, I think a ton of people would love to know in your next fight, not overlooking Dennis at all, but in your next fight, would you want to face someone like a Jarrett Hurd or a Tony Harrison or even a Jermall Charlo? And my second question would be since you’re going to be performing in front of so many of your fans, you’re a great fighter, you’ve knocked out a lot of people, but is there going to be any little bit of added pressure to try to get that knockout in front of the people that came to see you?

JAIME MUNGUIA: Yes, it’s a big pressure because everyone wants to see me win by knockout. But the truth is I need to stay calm. Sometimes I can’t get the knockout, so I have to maintain my calmness, and to answer the other question, whether it’s at 154 or 160 pounds, yes, I would like to fight a Jarrett Hurd or a Tony Harrison.

Q. Dennis, I see you’re training in Australia, you’re from Ireland, so you’re obviously well-traveled. But going to Monterrey, México, fighting in México, but with so many Mexican boxing fans also in Ireland, are you excited for the opportunity to fight in México?

DENNIS HOGAN: Yeah, I mean, I think the Mexicans are very like the Irish in terms of getting in and giving it everything they’ve got. I believe it’s kind of the same mentality the Irish and the Mexicans have. I know it’s a great passion in Ireland and in México, and I believe an Irish versus a Mexican for the World Championship, I think it doesn’t get bigger than that in terms of heart and passion and the supporters getting behind it, and no doubt I’m very excited.

Q. Jaime, it’s about to be one year since you knocked out Sadam Ali to be a world champion. In the last year how has your life changed away from the ring and in the ring? Is it something you can kind of pinpoint how much your life has changed in the last year?

JAIME MUNGUIA: I think everything has changed for the better, and thank God. We have a better life now. There are more opportunities, and more than anything, it’s a big responsibility because I’m fighting often. I’m staying in the gym, and I’m fighting one fight after another. So it’s been a big change. It’s been an excellent change, and the truth is I’m very happy for this change.

Q. Dennis, I don’t think there will be a whole lot of Irish flags flying down in Monterrey, so knowing that you’re going to have a very aggressive crowd down there, not perhaps in your corner, how do you handle that?

DENNIS HOGAN: As long as there’s one flag that’s flying, I’ll be happy, and that’s all I need. We will have a few, and I believe we’ll have a very vocal crowd there between the Irish and Australians of support. Even if there wasn’t, I’ll give them my laser focus. I’ll just be cool, calm, collected, eyes on the prize and all I need to do, and that’s all that matters. But there will be a few there anyway, so that’s going to be good either way. But again, it doesn’t matter to me. I’ll just stay focused.

Q. Robert or anyone with Golden Boy, how are ticket sales doing?

ROBERT GASPARRI: Ticket sales are doing very robustly. We predict a sellout in this fight. Ticket sales are strong. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but from what I hear, it’s really going well. I would think that the arena is going to be totally sold out in Jaime’s hometown.

Q. Jaime, how does that make you feel hearing from Robert that you may have a sellout down there?

JAIME MUNGUIA: It’s very exciting to know that we could have a full house. It’s a big motivation. It’s a great arena. It’s grandiose, it’s huge, down in Monterrey. So to be able to see it full would be very exciting for me, and I’m going to have all the desire and the will to make sure that we have a great fight for everyone there.

Q. Jaime, how many people pestered you to get tickets?

JAIME MUNGUIA: Haha, a lot of people.

Q. Robert, what are the plans for Jaime Munguia? Do you see him continuing to defend his title? Do you have him perhaps making big fights in another division in the future? What are the plans for Jaime Munguia?

ROBERT GASPARRI: The plan — I can speak as the CEO from Golden Boy, but Oscar and Eric and Fernando and Zanfer, we have great plans for Jaime. We’re going to sit together with everybody. We’re going to get him to the biggest fights. We’ll put him on the DAZN platform, which is the No. 1 platform for boxing. We just have — all the way to the top. He’ll fight the best, and we’ll put him in bigger arenas, and we have a lot, a lot of big plans for Jaime. And he has what it takes, so he’s exciting in the ring, and he’s able to — the fans love his style, and we’re proud to be working with him and with Zanfer, and the sky’s the limit.

Q. This question is for Dennis Hogan. How do you prepare yourself mentally, especially when there are a lot of people who perhaps don’t see you winning this fight, they’re already asking questions about Golovkin, Canelo? How do you prepare mentally for a fight when you’re maybe the underdog?

DENNIS HOGAN: Again, I’m just always about the bigger picture. I have a dream, it’s just about following it. All these outside little — what may be a distraction to other people, they don’t even come into my brain, into my head. I don’t care. It’s only just noise. It’s just talk from other people.

My dream is very real, and I can feel it, and it’s with me. That’s all I need to do. It inspires me every day, and I go with that feeling and I give everything I have. I have a belief and a faith of what’s to come. Everything that goes on around me just means nothing. It’s just noise to me.

Q. Robert Alcazar, you’ve worked with quality level fighters such as Oscar de la Hoya and Valerio. Where would you classify Jaime Munguia among the other fighters that you have worked with?

ROBERT ALCAZAR: Without a doubt, Munguia belongs to that group of fighters you just mentioned. He’s different. No doubt he keeps working, and if he keeps working, he will accomplish whatever he wants in this sport, and I have no doubt that he belongs to that elite list. He just has to accommodate himself and we have to give him a little bit of time to be in that list, but he belongs in that list.

Q. Would you have him fight someone like a GGG?

ROBERT ALCAZAR: The decision is up to the promoter. My responsibility is to have the fighter ready so that when the promoter asks, he can deliver and he’s focused on this fight. But right now he’s focused on the task he has ahead of him, and after that we’ll think in the future about fights, but whatever names you mentioned, no doubt he can fight them.

Q. This question is for Dennis. You’re going into the lion’s den, so to speak, down in México. Do you feel a little bit of pressure or added pressure to maybe having to go for the knockout, considering that you’re going in the backyard of your opponent?

DENNIS HOGAN: To be honest, it doesn’t faze me. For me, first and foremost, it’s about winning every exchange, winning every round, and then after that, whatever happens happens. I don’t feel any pressure at all whatsoever. As I said, I have a faith and belief that my hand will be raised. I will get in there and give it everything I have, as I have in camp, and whatever will be will be. I’ve come this far on this faith and belief and my hard work, and I believe it will deliver on April 13th.

Q. We have some fans from our site that are from Australia, and they’ve mentioned something about DAZN maybe not being offered over there just yet. I don’t know how true that is or not. If so, how are your friends and family going to try to follow the fight if possible or if there is an option out there for them to watch?

DENNIS HOGAN: Well, so GBP has organized Epicenter TV. Epicenter.tv, it’s an online streaming and great quality, so that’s going to be something that everyone in Australia can watch. And I believe there’s one, maybe two stations in Ireland that’s going to show it live on TV. I believe, I’m not sure if it’s locked in 100 percent, but I believe Eir Sport will show it, and I think BoxNation may be interested, also. Just that needs to be confirmed a hundred percent. Go to the GBP Facebook page, and if you’re looking from either end, and the confirmation will be there for sure by the fight.

Q. At this level of being a world champion, how important is it to stay busy?

JAIME MUNGUIA: It is very important. We are in the big leagues now, to stay busy, to be concentrated. When you’re the world champion you have to think more. You have to do things that you didn’t do before, be more intelligent. So it’s important to stay calm and be training, so it’s very important to do that now at this level of fighting.

Q. How important is it to be the kind of world champion who’s always with the people? When I see you, you always do the most possible to be with the people, to treat them nicely, to talk to them. Not many world champions do that. Where does that come from?

JAIME MUNGUIA: It’s very important, very important for any athlete, for any person to give the adequate attention to the people, and I thank everyone. I thank all of them because it’s because of them that I am here. Without the people, we would be nothing. So I try to talk to all of them. I try to dedicate them my fights and treat them nicely because most importantly, it’s always good to be a champion who’s with the people.

ROBERT GASPARRI: Everybody, thank you so much for that. At this point, I want to thank everybody for the conference call. Let’s go over some final comments. Dennis, any final comments?

DENNIS HOGAN: Not really. You know, I just — I’d just like to express again how much I’m really looking forward to this fight, how much excitement I believe it’s going to bring to the fans for boxing and how good it’s going to be. I’m looking forward to hearing the atmosphere in México, passionate country for boxing, same as the Irish, same as the Australians, and bring it all together and we will have one great night. For that I’m really looking forward to it, and thank you to everyone for all of this. It’s much appreciated.

ROBERT GASPARRI: Jaime Munguia, would you like to make any final comments?

JAIME MUNGUIA: I’m very happy to be coming back to México. I have a great opponent in front of me, and it’s an extra motivation. So I just want to dedicate this to all the people, all the people who support me, the media that’s present here, and I want to tell everyone that I’m going to give him a great fight this April 13 at Arena Monterrey.

DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT’S UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHTS OLEKSANDR TESLENKO AND CLAYTON LAURENT JR. IN ACTION TOMORROW NIGHT

New York, NY (March 28, 2019) Rising heavyweight prospects Oleksandr Teslenko and Clayton Laurent Jr. will return to action Tomorrow, Friday, March 29 under the DiBella Entertainment banner in separate bouts.

Sporting a record of 15-0, with 12 knockouts, the 26-year-old Teslenko, originally from Chernivtsi, Ukraine, now based in Toronto, Canada, will face Brazilian native Fabio Maldonado (26-1, 25 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round clash for the vacant WBA NABA Heavyweight Title. The clash will be a part of a nine-bout event presented by Lee Baxter Promotions at the Mattamy Events Center in Toronto.

Capping a sensational 2018 on December 1 with a third-round knockout of Edson Cesar Antonio in Quebec City, Teslenko will be making his first start this year. Following an outstanding amateur career compiling a 224-23 record, Teslenko has built a highly touted reputation since turning professional in September 2015. The upset-minded Maldonado will be looking to bounce back in to the win column after facing his first defeat, losing a 10-round decision to Oscar Rivas, on December 1, 2018, in Quebec City.

Also on Friday night, at Coliseo Ruben Zayas Montanez, in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, 2016 Olympian Clayton Laurent Jr. (3-0, 2 KOs) returns to the ring against German “Bombon” Garcia (4-1, 4 KOs), of Chihuahua, Mexico, in a scheduled four-round bout. Laurent represented his native U.S. Virgin Islands at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he had the prestigious honor of being the country’s flagbearer at the closing ceremonies.

Trained by his stepfather, the legendary two-division world champion Julian “The Hawk” Jackson and standing 6’5″, the 28-year-old Laurent Jr. started off his professional career impressively with two sensational knockouts. Managed by Philippe Fondu and Matt Lark, he is returning to battle following a four-round decision win versus Kenny Cruz Carasquillo, on December 7, 2018, in Puerto Rico. Friday’s event in Puerto Rico is promoted by Spartan Boxing.

“There’s already a lot of buzz about Ukrainian Oleksandr Teslenko and that will only intensify after he captures the WBA NABA heavyweight title. A win tomorrow ensures that Teslenko will take that next step in his career as he chases his dream of becoming a world champion,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Trained by his future Hall-of-Famer stepfather Julian Jackson, Olympian Clayton Laurent Jr. has tremendous potential. He’ll be facing an aggressive power puncher in German Garcia, as it’s important for him to stay active and see different styles at this stage of his career. I expect another impressive win on Friday.”

CLARESSA SHIELDS TRANSITIONS TRAINING CAMP TO FLORIDA

MIAMI, Fla. – March 28, 2019 – WBC, IBF and WBA Middleweight World Champion Claressa Shields arrived in Miami yesterday to hold the final portion of her training camp at the Fifth Street Gym as she prepares to take on WBO Middleweight World Champion Christina Hammer in the main event of a SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION tripleheader Saturday, April 13 live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT) from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Shields spent the last five weeks training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., following a two-week pre-camp in her hometown of Flint, Mich.

“We’ve been going twice a day every day except Sunday for five-straight weeks,” said Shields. “We put in lots of rounds sparring, tons of sprinting, pad work, push-ups, crunches and drills to help with my head movement.

“I’ve put my body through so much on this camp, and now it’s time to start cutting it down a bit. I’m in great shape and my weight is on point. I’m also in a great place mentally and very happy with this camp overall.”

In Florida, Shields is looking to prime herself for her showdown for the undisputed middleweight women’s world championship, in what is considered by many as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.

“My main focus now is trying to relieve my body while keeping my conditioning,” said Shields. “I’m making sure that I go into fight week with no injuries or soreness. I’ve been in Colorado for over a month and it was time for some new scenery.

“I’m still going to be training very hard in Florida. I just need a little more sunshine and the additional space that’s provided for me down here. We did what we had to do in Colorado. Florida is just an ideal environment all-around and a happy place for me to be these last couple weeks.”

As Shields and trainer John David Jackson near fight night, the two-time Olympic Gold Medalist has a message for her fellow unbeaten opponent. “I know what I can and will do on April 13,” said Shields. “I already told Christina I’m going to beat her and mess her up. I’m taking this fight 100 percent seriously. I’m going to go out there and dominate her.

“I don’t want these belts handed to me. I’m coming to win every round on April 13. I’m a different kind of animal and Christina is going to see that on fight night. I’m ready. That’s it.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Salita Promotions, are priced at $150, $100, $55 and $35 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster and at boardwalkhall.com.

ALI: PRICE IS GETTING SPARKED OUT

Kash Ali has vowed to “spark out” David Price in front of his home crowd and send him into retirement when they collide at The M&S Bank Arena Liverpool on Saturday, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

The Heavyweight rivals became embroiled in a heated war of words at today’s final press conference at The Cunard Building, with undefeated Ali branding his former sparring partner as a quitter once again.

After 15 straight victories, Ali is determined to burst onto the British scene, and the Midlands man believes a win over a big name like Price in front of a huge TV audience will fire him towards domestic titles.

“This is my time to show all the boxing people that I’m not here to mess about,” said Ali. “Beating someone like David will put me straight in the mix. People at the top of the game should watch out. It’s a great opportunity to show my skills, and show that I’m a real contender.

“One hundred per cent, he’s getting knocked out. It’s not going to points, no way. I’m younger, I’m fresher. I’m made for this. David Price is getting sparked out in front of his own fans. If he loses to me, that’s it, which he will. I think he should pack it in after that.

“He’s had chance after chance and he’s thrown all of them away. This is my first chance on the big stage and I’m going to make it count. There’s no way I’m losing this fight. There could be 10 of him in the ring and I’d go through every single one.

“He’s always been a quitter. He’s quit before and he’ll quit again. He might have trained hard, he might be in good shape, had good sparring, but one thing you can’t buy, you can’t buy guts and you can’t buy heart. He’s going to sleep. I’m ending his career.”

Price vs. Ali is part of a huge night of action in Liverpool.

Main event sees former WBO Super-Welterweight World Champion Liam Smith make his long-awaited Liverpool homecoming against Sam Eggington.

Domestic Super-Lightweight rivals Joe Hughes and Robbie Davies Jr meet with the European and British titles on the line.

Former Great Britain teammates Anthony Fowler and Scott Fitzgerald look to settle their longstanding feud in a dynamite Super-Welterweight clash.

Liverpool’s Tom Farrell challenges Leytonstone’s Philip Bowes for the Commonwealth Super-Lightweight crown.

There’s also action for rising Liverpool Cruiserweight talent Craig Glover, ‘Miss GB’ Natasha Jonas and undefeated Super-Lightweight Ged ‘G-Man’ Carroll.

DANIEL DUBOIS BRUSHES OFF NATHAN GORMAN’S RINGSIDE COMMENTARY

WHEN BT SPORT innovatively elected to wire up Nathan Gorman while he was on a scouting mission to assess the performance of his heavyweight rival Daniel Dubois at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this month, it probably wasn’t part of the strategy to have him sitting ringside right alongside the brother and sister of the young Londoner.

There was Gorman commentating on the pros and cons of Dubois’ destruction of his previous opponent Razvan Cojanu, while siblings Caroline and Prince were listening in intently, with the odd frosty stare thrown in for good measure.

Gorman was measured and typically articulate in his summing up of Dubois’s second round KO show, which is probably just as well given the company he was keeping in the adjacent seats.

The now 10-0 Dubois was unaware that he was being marked by a contemporary at the time and hasn’t, as of yet, been tempted to tune in to discover if he was favourably assessed or not.

“They told me about it afterwards!” said the 21-year-old with a chuckle. “It is what it is and we are all in together.

“I haven’t seen it myself but my dad told me about it. I have no need to see it, I know what I’ve got to do. I am just enjoying my training, enjoying my boxing and enjoying winning so I will just carry on doing that.”

The more reserved Dubois had no intention of returning the compliment and travelling up to Leicester to watch Gorman outpoint Kevin Johnson last Saturday.

“I don’t see the need to and will probably just watch his fights online or something. Right now I am focused on my date in April.”

Dubois makes a quick return to the ring at the SSE Arena, Wembley on April 27 when he takes on a dangerous mission against the 14-1 Ghanaian Richard Lartey.

Lartey has been the executor of 11 KOs across his professional career and, while Dubois accepts there are always perils when coming across a relatively unknown quantity, he backs his own ability to succeed in previously unchartered territory.

“There is always that possibility, but I know that my boxing skills and boxing brain is probably already superior,” he reasoned. “He will be a tough guy and anybody is capable of winning because until you knock them out they are always dangerous.

“I am approaching this fight the same as the others, but I am going to be a bit better this time than my last.

“This is what it is all about, I know what I have got to go in there and do on the night. It is all good for boxing, the interest and mystique around this guy and what is going to happen on the night is there, but I know what I’ve got to do.”

JEREMY CUEVAS TO RECEIVE “PROSPECT OF THE YEAR” AWARD AT BRISCOE AWARDS

PHILADELPHIA – Rising lightweight southpaw Jeremy Cuevas went 5-0, with 3 KOs, in 2018, to improve his overall professional record to 11-0, 8 KOs. During the year, he brought plenty of excitement to local boxing fans, and for his hard work was voted as the best prospect of 2018. Cuevas will receive his award at the 12th Annual Briscoe Awards, Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Xfinity Live! in South Philadelphia.

Cuevas distinguished himself from the pack of nominees with more activity (five bouts), terrific punching power, and higher level of opposition.

“It’s a great honor and blessing,” Cuevas said. “I’ve been watching guys win this award since I was an amateur and used to dream about how cool it would be to finally get one. It’s finally my turn.”

In his first fight of 2019, Cuevas suffered his first professional setback (L8 to fellow-nominee Steven Ortiz). However, Cuevas is still one of Philadelphia’s brightest stars and most promising prospects. Fans anxiously await his return to the ring, and expect big things from Cuevas in the future. This is Jeremy’s first Briscoe Award, but likely not his last.
