February 2: Alvarez-Kovalev 2 Lands at Ford Center at The Star

FRISCO, Texas (Dec. 8, 2018) —Their first fight ended with a dramatic knockout that shook up the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The rematch between Eleider “Storm” Alvarez and Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev will bring two of the light heavyweight division’s biggest names to The Star.

Alvarez will defend his WBO light heavyweight world title against former unified light heavyweight world champion Kovalev on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility.

Alvarez (24-0, 12 KOs) scored a come-from-behind knockout against Kovalev on Aug. 4 in a major upset to shake up the division. Kovalev (32-3-1, 28 KOs), who has made nine title defenses across two reigns, will seek to become a three-time world champion and regain his position in boxing’s pound-for-pound top ten.

Alvarez-Kovalev 2 and a soon-to-be announced co-feature will headline a special edition of Top Rank on ESPN beginning at 10 p.m. ET. The entire undercard will stream live beginning at 7 p.m. ET in the United States on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN. Promoted by Top Rank, Main Events and Krusher Promotions, in association with Groupe Yvon Michel, tickets, priced at $225, $165, $85, $55, and $25 (including facility fees), go on sale Friday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. CST and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com.

”The fact that Kovalev said it was a mistake and that I was lucky is motivation for me,” Alvarez said. “He is a sore loser, and I will make sure there will be a second ‘accident.’ ‘I expect Kovalev to be stronger in that second fight. I expect the best Kovalev because he won’t underestimate me this time, but I am fully aware of this. I am able to be even better than in the last fight.”

“I am very thankful to fight on ESPN on Feb. 2,” Kovalev said. “I will look to take back my title and put on a great show for the fans. Together with my new trainer, Buddy McGirt, I will be ready for Alvarez.”

“Sergey and Eleider are two of the world’s best fighters, and we look forward to hosting their rematch and another great night of boxing at Ford Center at The Star,” said Stephen Jones, Chief Operating Officer of the Dallas Cowboys. “Ford Center has proven to be a premier fight venue, and there is no better way to continue that legacy than to bring the world light heavyweight championship to North Texas.”

Alvarez, 34, a native of Colombia who now resides in Montreal, turned pro in 2009 following an amateur career that included a pair of Pan American Games gold medals and a 2008 Olympic berth. In 2013, he defeated former middleweight world champion Edison Miranda by unanimous decision, and by 2015, he had established himself as one of the world’s top light heavyweight contenders. He earned the shot at Kovalev following a trio of high-profile wins: a 2015 majority decision against perennial contender Isaac Chilemba, a 2017 knockout of former longtime super middleweight world champion Lucian Bute, and a majority decision over former light heavyweight kingpin Jean Pascal. That all led to his triumphant night on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, a feat he hopes to duplicate in Frisco.

Kovalev is one of the most dominating world champions of his era, a devastating puncher with nine title defenses across two title reigns. He won the WBO world title in August 2013, traveling to Wales and knocking out hometown champion Nathan Cleverly in the fourth round. He became the unified champion in November 2014 with a dominating 12-round decision against future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins and further enhanced his résumé with a pair of knockout wins against Jean Pascal. He lost his world titles in November 2016 via controversial decision to pound-for-pound great Andre Ward. Nearly seven months later, Kovalev was stopped in the eighth round by Ward, a bout remembered in part for the multiple low blows that immediately preceded the stoppage. Kovalev rebounded, winning the vacant WBO light heavyweight title with a second-round TKO against Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in his next bout. He defended the title once, a seventh-round TKO of Igor Mikhalkin in March, before running into Alvarez.

PACKED HOUSE VIEWS FINAL UPRISING PROMOTIONS SHOW OF 2018 AT CLUB AMAZURA

Queens, N.Y. – Wall-to-wall spectators packed into Club Amazura on Friday night to witness the final show of 2018 by Ronson Frank’s Uprising Promotions in association with the New Mexican Promotion. Those fans were treated to an outstanding evening of fights that were also broadcasted to a worldwide audience via Fight Night Live on Facebook.

“The show was amazing tonight,” said Ronson Frank, President of Uprising Promotions. “We had a great turnout, and we can really feel the momentum building here at Club Amazura. We see this venue becoming a stable for us over the coming years. This is an historical building that has hosted a lot of fights in the past, and many famous fighters have fought here. We really want to rejuvenate this place in terms of the fight game and make it a destination for local boxing once again.”

In the headliner of the evening, Ronica Jeffrey (17-1, 1 KO) picked up her second consecutive win as the main eventer of an Uprising Promotions card, defeating veteran Edina Kiss (15-9, 9 KOs) in a six-round encounter. The Brooklyn native moved well throughout the contest, showing good ring generalship and establishing her rhythm early. Jeffrey also did a nice job of parrying the jab and following up with a right hand over the top, and she found herself in a position where she had Kiss backing up in the sixth and final frame. She diligently fought for the finish over those last two minutes, but Kiss was able to hold on and make her settle for a unanimous decision.

When the cards were read aloud by in-ring announcer Mark Fratto, Jeffery emerged victorious by scores of 60-54 (twice) and 58-56.

In the co-feature, popular Irish junior welterweight Larry Fryers (9-1, 3 KOs) took on Ronald Rivas (5-8-2, 3 KOs) in an action-packed eight-rounder, claiming a unanimous decision victory. The two combatants stepped into a phonebooth early and fought this one entirely on the inside, much to the pleasure of the energetic fans in attendance. Fryers continually came forward and applied pressure, and Rivas was also willing to exchange and make it a very entertaining scrap.

In the end, Fryers controlled the better of the action over eight competitive rounds and claimed the win with final tallies of 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75.

In a six-frame bantamweight affair, Ariel Lopez (11-0, 7 KOs) was once again very impressive in a bout opposite Jeno Tonte (9-5, 8 KOs), needing less than three rounds to dispose of the hard-hitting Hungarian. Lopez did a very nice job of mixing up his attack, going to the body early and often while placing right hands on Tonte with ease. By the third round, the body work really started to pay off and he dropped his opponent with a hard shot to the ribs. Tonte was able to get back onto his feet, but Lopez would not let him off the hook.

As soon as action resumed, Lopez battered Tonte with a heavy offensive attack until referee Mike Rosario was forced to stop it at 1:57 of that third frame.

Following a nearly 18-month layoff, undefeated Bronx native Peter Dobson (10-0, 6 KOs) returned to action against the always-game Salim Larbi (20-11-2, 7 KOs) in a scheduled eight-rounder.

This fight had good action from its onset, with Dobson using a methodical approach in how he handled the aggression of Larbi. Midway through the first frame, he buckled the Brooklyn transplant but did not allow himself to get overexcited and walk into any traps. Larbi continued to come forward with a bit of reckless abandon, but Dobson did a good job of slipping punches and countering.

By the time that the third round came up, a poise Dobson worked Larbi to the neutral corner and began to unload pinpoint hooks with both hands. As he began to increase his volume and seemingly land every strike he threw, referee Steve Willis was forced to halt the action at 2:47 of that frame as Larbi began to lose the ability to effectively defend himself.

In a six-round super bantamweight attraction, Jose Gonzalez (11-0-2, 3 KOs) remained unbeaten after claiming flush 59-55 tallies from the judges against Andre Wilson (15-13-1, 12 KOs). This bout was fought almost entirely in the center of the ring, with both fighters willing to engage throughout the scrap. They ultimately finished off the action with heavy fireworks in the sixth and final frame, as each man poured every last ounce of energy they had into an incredible three minutes of non-stop action.

After that final bell had rung, it was Gonzalez who saw his win total increase when the cards arrived from the judges at ringside.

In a bit of an upset, Andre Byrd (6-4-2, 1 KO) fought Noel Murphy (12-1-1, 2 KOs) to a majority draw, with Byrd seeing a 58-56 card in his favor get overturned by a pair of 57-57 counts. Each of the four rounds from the welterweights was very competitive, as both fighters were giving and taking on the exchanges. In the end, four frames would not be enough to decide a victor, and a majority draw became the official outcome.

In the opening bout of the evening, super featherweight Harrison Barba (2-1, 2 KOs) claimed his second consecutive stoppage win on an Uprising Promotions show at Club Amazura. After earning a late knockdown of Joseph Santana (0-2) near the end of the first round, Barba finished off his opposition in the second frame as the ringside doctors called for a halt to the action at 2:30.

Jose Uzcategui Defends Super Middleweight World Title Against Unbeaten Caleb Plant on Premier Boxing Champions Live in Prime Time, Sunday, January 13 on FS1 & FOX Deportes at Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (December 7, 2018) – Battle-hardened Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui defends his IBF Super Middleweight World Championship against unbeaten top challenger Caleb Plant in prime time on Sunday, January 13 on FS1 and FOX Deportes presented by Premier Boxing Champions at Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Also in action unbeaten featherweight contender Brandon Figueroa who takes on his toughest challenge to date when he meets rugged, once-beaten veteran Moises “Chucky’’ Flores in the televised co-feature. Also appearing is unbeaten sensation Joey Spencer entering the ring in a special junior middleweight attraction.

The first show of the 2019 season of PBC on FOX is promoted by TGB Promotions and Zanfer Promotions and tickets, starting at $50, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

“This is an excellent card, featuring the kinds of bouts that are intriguing for boxing fans because it involves two young stars who are reaching up for challenges to determine whether they have what it takes to become world champions,’’ said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “Jose Uzcategui is going to push Caleb Plant to the limits and Plant will have to take the title away from Uzcategui if he wants it. Moises Flores feels like he definitely has something to prove coming off his last fight and Brandon Figueroa knows his road to a world title runs right through Flores. It’s also exciting to see the continued growth of the sensational prospect Joey Spencer. It’s going to be a special night of boxing on PBC on FS1 at Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live.’’

“José Bolivita Uzcategui is the best super middleweight in the world and as always he will show his skills and elevate his game in the biggest stage,’’ said Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions. “This is no exception. Plant is a good fighter but Bolivita is at his best and we are all thrilled to be able to do this fight on FOX Sports. So everyone tune in and enjoy the show.”

Uzgategui (28-2, 23 KOs) will be making his first defense of his IBF super middleweight championship with the match against Plant. The 27-year-old Uzgategui was born in El Vigia, Venezuela and now lives in Tijuana, Mexico. He earned the world title with a ninth round TKO victory over Andre Dirrell in their rematch in March. Uzcategui lost the first fight by disqualification in 2017. In his last match Uzcategui scored a unanimous decision over Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna on Sept. 28.

“It is an honor to defend my IBF title for the first time on FOX Sports,’’ Uzcategui said. “About the only thing I can say about my fight is that I don’t respect Caleb Plant. He has talked too much and I will punish him, beat him up and then knock him out.”

The 26-year-old Plant (17-0, 10 KOs) is an undefeated top contender who moved into position to challenge for the title with an impressive unanimous decision victory over tough veteran Rogelio Medina on Feb. 17. Plant, who was born in Nashville, Tennessee and now lives in Las Vegas, has dedicated his career to his daughter, Alia, who was born with a medical condition that causes seizures. She died at 19 months old from a respiratory infection that developed into pneumonia.

“Come January 13th when I step in that ring it will be for a lot of reasons,’’ Plant said. “I’ll be stepping between those ropes for Alia. I’m stepping between those ropes for the people of my city and state and for the people who come from the very bottom. I’m stepping between those ropes to finish the job that my father started, for all the work and sacrifice he made to ensure that he gave us a better opportunity than the life we once had and lived. But most importantly I’m stepping between those ropes January 13th in LA for myself. AND THE NEWWWW!”

The 21-year-old Figueroa (17-0, 12 KOs) will be facing the toughest challenge of his pro career when he takes on Flores. Figueroa fought three times and scored three knockouts in 2018 as he climbed the ladder in the super bantamweight and featherweight divisions. Figueroa of Weslaco, Texas is the younger brother of former lightweight world champion Omar Figueroa. In his last fight Figueroa scored an impressive TKO victory over Oscar Escandon on Sept. 30.

“This is definitely a step up for me. He’s 25-1 and he’s been in some tough fights, especially the championship fight against Daniel Roman,’’ Figueroa said. “I feel like I keep getting better with each fight, stronger and wiser in the ring. I want to show everyone that I’m the real deal and I’m ready for that world title. I believe that it’s coming soon and this is the kind of fight that I need to prove that I’m ready.’’

Flores (25-1, 17 KOs) is looking to rebound from the first loss of his professional career after dropping a unanimous decision against Daniel Roman for the super bantamweight world title on June 16. The 32-year-old Flores of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico had fought Guillermo Rigondeaux in 2017 in a match that was ruled a no contest before the bout against Roman.

“I’m looking forward to this fight,’’ Flores said. “I had only fought one round in two years coming into my last fight with Roman. And while I wasn’t happy with my performance, it was great to get 12 rounds in and I’ve been in the gym since that loss. So now I’m confident I will be at my best. Figueroa and I both throw a ton of punches. It’s gonna be an all out war.’’

Farmer defends IBF World Super-Featherweight crown against Fonseca in New York

Tevin Farmer will defend his IBF World Super-Featherweight title against Francisco Fonseca at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 15, on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez challenging Rocky Fielding for the WBA World Super-Middleweight title, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Farmer (27 – 4 – 1 6KOs) makes the second defense of his crown under two months in his third fight in just over four months after he first put the belt on the line in Boston, where he blasted hard-hitting Northern Irishman James Tennyson away inside five rounds in a fantastic performance on DAZN.

The Philadelphia ace looks to crown a great year in his career in style at the Manhattan boxing mecca with a third huge win, having landed the vacant title in Australia in August with a landslide points win over local favorite Billy Dib in Sydney – erasing the disappointment of his controversial loss to Kenichi Ogawa in Las Vegas in December, with the hotly-contested split decision reversal changed to a no contest following the Japanese failing a drug test.

Farmer has set his sights on a unification clash with WBA champion Gervonta Davis in 2019 as he aims to stamp his name as the premier fighter at 130lbs, but Fonseca (22 – 1 – 1 16KOs), whose sole blemish on his career was in a clash for the IBF crown with Davis in August 2017, is confident of ruining those plans and enters the bout on the back of three stoppage wins inside five rounds.

“Another day, another big night,” said Farmer. “I’m looking to do the same thing that I did to Tennyson – but much faster.

“I’m on another level and people are starting to realize. Right now, I’m just trying to make history with every fight. December 15 I will show everyone once again that I am one of the best in the world.”

“I’d like to thanks Tevin Farmer for the opportunity,” said Fonseca. “I see his focus is on Gervonta Davis, not on me – but you have no idea the opponent that you will clash with on December 15.

“I hope you’re prepared so we can give the public a great fight. In the name of God, I’ll be the new IBF World Champion. I’ll guarantee my name will never be forgotten by the people that watch us fight and I’m ready to make history.”

“Tevin Farmer is one of the most inspirational stories in boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “He’s won 20 fights in a row and is one of the fastest improving young stars in boxing. I’m pleased that, with Eddie Hearn and DAZN, he is now the most active champion in the ring. It’s a tremendous opportunity to be on the Canelo-Fielding bill.”

“It’s brilliant to Tevin straight back out after his big win in Boston,” said Eddie Hearn. “We are keeping our guys nice and active and Tevin gets his chance to go again on the biggest stage at Madison Square Garden against Fonseca.

“2019 is going to be a monster for Tevin but he must get the job done next Saturday – I can’t wait to see him light up the Garden live on DAZN.”

Canelo vs. Rocky is a 12-round fight for the WBA Super Middleweight World Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. Lemieux vs. Johnson is a 12-round middleweight fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Eye of The Tiger Management. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” and Hennessy “Never Stop. TOM LOEFFLER ON THE LEGACY OF HBO BOXING

Los Angeles, CA (December 7, 2018) Working with HBO for 25 years, Tom Loeffler is in a unique position as his company, 360 Promotions presents the final boxing telecast of the network’s remarkable 45-year history in the sport.

First entering the arena as a noted Southern California based boxing manager, Loeffler worked with four of the most talented and most watched boxers fighting on HBO; Kevin Kelley, Shane Mosley, Oba Carr and James Toney.

“My first fight on HBO was when Kevin Kelley won the WBC Featherweight title from Goyo Vargas Dec 4, 1993, almost 25 years to the day. Kevin was the first Featherweight on HBO since Salvador Sanchez and they loved him because he was an all action fighter that was much more exciting than the heavyweights he would be paired with on the broadcast. Kevin vs Naseem Hamed at Madison Square Garden on December 19, 1997 was one of the most exciting fights I had seen with 6 knockdowns in 4 rounds, “said Loeffler. “Kevin’s most exciting win was against Derrick Gainer, when his eye was completely closed and he landed the KO punch in the 8th round.”

“I was able to get Shane Mosley on HBO in 1997 when he defeated Phillip Holliday for the IBF Lightweight Title, when nobody wanted to fight him. That was the start of Shane’s long run of dominant fights. During the same time period I was managing Oba Carr who fought Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad and Ike Quartey in world title fights,” continued Loeffler. “Shortly thereafter I worked with James Toney after he lost to Roy Jones Jr for a number fights on HBO.”

In 2003, Loeffler began working with heavyweight world champions Vitaly and Wladimir Klitschko forming K2 Promotions as a new promotional entity under which the brothers fought in the United States as well as Europe. “We had a great deal of international success with both brothers and HBO played a very large role televising many of their fights which garnered tremendous TV ratings. I remember the historic fight on HBO against Lennox Lewis at Staples Center and then a year later when Vitali finally won the WBC heavyweight championship at Staples.”

Bursting onto the scene on September 1, 2012, Loeffler brought middleweight world champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin to the attention of U.S. boxing fans as he made his memorable HBO debut, stopping Grzegorz Proksa in the fifth round.

“Gennady’s HBO debut truly stamped him as a must-see TV attraction and the network was instrumental in building him into one of the biggest international stars in the sport, that could have only been built on the HBO platform.”

“I was able to get Chocolatito Gonzalez on HBO when the flyweight division was not popular in the US and he became recognized as the best pound for pound fighter shortly afterwards. I was able to put Alexander Usyk on HBO for two of his fights, which gave him his exposure in the US market. One of the biggest accomplishments was breaking the glass ceiling and getting Cecilia Braekhus on HBO as the first female champion ever on the network.”

“HBO has done an extraordinary job creating stars in boxing and I’m proud to have worked with these tremendous athletes and very grateful for HBO and their support of the sport of boxing throughout the years.”

Hosea Burton calls out Anthony Yarde for British Light Heavyweight clash

TORONTO (December 7, 2018) — Former British light heavyweight champion Hosea Burton has never been one to duck a fight. In fact, he’s looking for a fight.

Burton has made his intentions known, calling out undefeated Anthony Yarde, man to man, to his face. The two recently encountered one another during Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder fight week in Los Angeles, California, where Burton was on-hand to support his cousin, Fury.

“Let’s make the fight happen,” Burton told Yarde. “We’re both excited about it. They say I’m not up to you, but let’s get it going man.”

Burton has gone undefeated for two years, since suffering his lone career defeat at the hands of Frank Buglioni, a fight in which he was winning prior to a final round stoppage. Buglioni has recently retired from the sport, leaving Burton to set his sights on Yarde, rather than avenging his defeat first.

Yarde recently scored a knockout victory over Walter Sequeira, October 20 in Brentwood, improving his record to 17-0 with 16 knockouts.

Burton, however, hasn’t been impressed.

“If he’s six foot, I must be six foot nine, because he’s a lot shorter than that,” Burton said of Yarde’s stature. “I would be his first live opponent. Let’s get it on.”

Yarde’s world ranking would play well into Burton’s plans in 2019, which include fighting for a world title after recapturing his domestic gold.

“This would be one of the biggest domestic light heavyweight fights in UK history. Everyone is already placing Yarde amongst the world’s best, but the fact is, he has to get past Hosea,” noted Adam Harris of Athlete Development and Management. “We believe Hosea is the one who’s ready to go after a world title. Let’s have it out and find out who’s right.”

Burton also plans on showcasing his skills in Canada in the new year, following in the footsteps of his cousin Tyson, the lineal heavyweight champion of the world. Both Tyson and his cousin, Hughie Fury, fought in Canada early in their pro careers, and have held training camps in the Great White North as well.

“Some of the best in the world have been coming to Canada to accelerate their careers,” Harris noted, “including Billy Joe Saunders before his most recent fights and, of course, Tyson in the past. We have a special relationship with the country, and the fight scene in Toronto is booming in a way we’ve never seen before. We have no doubt Hosea will be appreciated and find plenty of competition north of the border.”

Final Press Conference: Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Jose Pedraza

NEW YORK CITY (Dec. 6, 2018) – WBA lightweight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko and WBO lightweight world champion Jose Pedraza exchanged pleasantries on a brisk New York afternoon two days before their title unification tilt, Saturday evening at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden (ESPN, 9 p.m. ET).

In the co-feature, Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe will make the second defense of his WBO junior featherweight world title against Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete. Dogboe snatched the title from Jessie Magdaleno back in April and defended it Aug. 25 with a first-round knockout over Hidenori Otake.

In the televised opener, unbeaten lightweight sensation Teofimo Lopez faces his toughest test to date in veteran Mason Menard.

And, in a special attraction (ESPN+, 6 p.m. ET), 2016 Italian Olympian Guido Vianello will make his pro debut against Luke Lyons in a six-round heavyweight clash.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from Madison Square Garden’s Chase Square.

Vasiliy Lomachenko

On his surgically repaired shoulder

“I had a very interesting camp. I had hard sparring sessions and good preparation for this fight. I used all of my punches, and I think it will be the same as before {the surgery}.”

On Pedraza as a challenge

“I can’t answer that now. I need to feel what he brings, and after that, I can compare.”

“His style is not very interesting and not comfortable for all boxers because he’s always on defense and waiting for a mistake. If you’ve seen my fights, it will be similar to the {Miguel} Marriaga fight. They have the same style.”

On fighters out there who are a challenge

“In my weight class and closer to my weight class, we don’t have a big superstar. Yes, we have big names at 147, but I can’t move up to 147 now because it’s too much {weight}, I think.”

On Manny Pacquiao

“I’m not disrespecting Pacquiao, but I don’t want to make my name bigger because I beat an old legend. I have my own road. There are a lot of good fighters to fight who are comparable to me. He’s old. I think his career is done. I don’t want to become a legend in boxing because of him.”

On his plans for 2019

“Seriously, I want a fight with Mikey Garcia. I think this fight will happen. Then, I don’t know.”

Jose Pedraza

“Since the moment I signed to fight {Ray} Beltran, I knew that the winner was going to fight Lomachenko. Mentally, I’ve been preparing, staying positive, staying focused, and also physically, I’m well prepared.”

“I had a great training camp for this fight. Lomachenko is a great fighter, a complete fighter, and I know that I will have to be at my best. I am prepared to put on a good fight.”

“Me {unifying} the titles on Saturday would mean a lot to {Puerto Rico}. It would be the first Christmas after what happened with Hurricane Maria. Definitely, me winning on Saturday would bring a lot of joy and blessings to the island.”

Isaac Dogboe

“We couldn’t have asked for a better 2018. Before entering into 2018, my uncle said to me, ‘All you have to do is dance into 2018. Be happy.’ And that’s exactly what we did. We started by knocking out Cesar Juarez, another fine Mexican fighter. And we moved on to Jessie Magdaleno, another tough world champion. He’s one of the best in my division. And after that, we defended it against Hidenori Otake, one of Japan’s toughest fighters. It’s been a blessing. Three knockouts out of three fights, and this will be four knockouts out of four fights in 2018. It’s always been a blessing.”

“Emanuel Navarrete is also one of Mexico’s finest fighters, as tough as they come. He reminds me of Israel Vazquez and Juan Manuel Marquez. These are great, great legendary fighters. When he talks about the fighting spirit of the Mexicans, you know he’s going to come and fight.”

Emanuel Navarrete

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to fight a great super bantamweight champion like Isaac Dogboe. What better way to become a world champion than to do it on a stage like Madison Square Garden.”

“Maybe people don’t know me, but I’ve had a great career in my country and I’m focused on taking advantage of this opportunity and bringing the title home to Mexico.”

Teofimo Lopez

“It’s my fourth time {fighting at Madison Square Garden}. Like always, I am here to put on a show and ‘The Takeover.’ That’s what I’ve always said, and come Saturday night, we’re here to take over the show.”

“2019, I will become world champion.”

“I know Mason Menard. He’s going to definitely come out there and fight, bring the fight. But they all try the same thing, and it’s not going to work. No matter what they do, no matter what they try, they’re in there with a real one.”

Guido Vianello

“When I started in boxing, my dream was to go to the Olympics and go to America for a fight in Madison Square Garden with Top Rank. So now the dream {has come true}. I am very excited and ready for this fight.”

“I am a mix between {Wladimir} Klitschko and Muhammad Ali. I move in the ring and I am aggressive. I want to box and fight.”

On training with Abel Sanchez

“I have the best training in the world. The training was very hard every day in Big Bear. We ran every morning. For this, I am very, very ready for the fight.”

Teofimo Lopez takes on Mason Menard This Saturday at The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden and Live on ESPN

NEW YORK (December 5, 2018) -Boxing’s top prospect and world ranked lightweight, Teofimo Lopez will be back in the spotlight when he takes on the battle-tested Mason Menard at The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The scheduled 10-round bout will be seen live on ESPN as a support bout to the lightweight unification battle between Vasyl Lomachenko and Jose Pedraza.

Lopez and Menard will vie for the coveted and vacant NABF title.

Lopez, who now resides in Las Vegas, returns to to his birth city as the 21 year-old was born in Brooklyn, will look to continue the momentum that he started to gather after taking out William Silva on July 14th on ESPN.

That win upped his mark to 10-0 with eight knockouts, and made him a world-ranked fighter as he is now rated #11 by the WBA and #14 by the WBO.

In Menard, he will be facing an opponent who has a terrific mark of 34-3 with 24 knockouts. Menard is no stranger to taking out prospects as he has wins over Bahodir Mamadjonov (19-2) and Eudy Bernardo (21-0).

“I am more than ready for this fight and super excited that I’m back in my hometown fighting for 3 belts. It’s #TheTakeover come Saturday night! The celebration after the win will be one to talk about,” said Lopez.

“He’s the most exciting prospect in boxing, and he loves to turn it up at the garden- I’m expecting quite a show,” said David McWater of Split-T Management.

Lopez is promoted by Top Rank.
