Isiah Seldon ready for undefeated middleweight Tyler Howard on November 16th in Oklahoma City

Atlantic City, NJ (November 1, 2018) – Middleweight Isiah Seldon is getting ready for his biggest fight of his career when he takes on undefeated Tyler Howard in a bout scheduled for eight-round on November 16th at The Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

The bout, which is promoted by Top Rank, will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The main event will see WBO Junior Welterweight champion Maurice Hooker defending against Alex Saucedo.

Seldon (12-1-1, 4 KOs) has been training in Atlantic City under the watchful eye of Bill Johnson.

“I am looking forward to this great opportunity,” said Seldon. “I have been longing for an opportunity to take on a fighter such as Howard as a win will take my career to the next level.”

Team Seldon, has been working diligently with longtime manager Jim Kurtz very excited about the opportunity that Seldon has in front of him.

“It doesn’t get any bigger than fighting on a Top Rank show with an explosive main event between Hooker and Saucedo. The staff at Top Rank has been top notch. I am really excited for Isiah to get this opportunity to display his talents on a big stage. Myself and co-manager Joe Thompson are convinced Isiah is ready to shine on November 16th and it can’t get here fast enough,” said Kurtz, who has manged Seldon from day one.

Kurtz also managed Seldon’s father, WBA Heavyweight champion, Bruce Seldon.

“Isiah has reunited with his original trainer Bill Johnson and they haven’t skipped a beat. This is the first time Isiah has had a full fledged training camp. We haven’t left any stone unturned in preparation for this fight. Isiah’s conditioning is at a point that I have never seen with him before. He is getting great sparring and his improvement working with Bill in preparation for this fight has been incredible. He is ready to show the world a new and improved Isiah Seldon. He has a large legacy to follow being the son of former WBA Heavyweight Champion Bruce Seldon but Isiah is determined to make his own mark on the sport of boxing.”

“He has always had power in both hands, scoring knockdown in almost every fight, but now he is learning to remain calm and finish guys instead of getting overly excited and letting them off the hook. He is punching harder than ever before, putting his punches together and his boxing ability has reached a level where he can control the pace of the fight. We have taken it slow with Isiah considering he didn’t have any amateur fights but we are now at the point where he is ready to make his mark on the Middleweight division.”

“We know Tyler Howard is a good undefeated fighter. He had a good amateur career, comes from a family with a boxing background, and has a solid management team who have done a great job with him. On November 16th we expect a tough fight with some fireworks but we are confident Isiah will emerge victorious and this will lead us to bigger and better opportunities.”

SALITA PROMOTIONS SIGNS EXCITING UNBEATEN AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT JERMAINE FRANKLIN, JR. TO PROMOTIONAL CONTRACT

DETROIT (November 1, 2018) – Unbeaten heavyweight contender Jermaine Franklin has joined Salita Promotions to help guide his career as he seeks to announce himself as the newest American contender in the division and reach his dream of becoming heavyweight champion of the world. Having already earned 17 wins, 13 by knockout, the 25-year-old has made an impressive rise up the heavyweight division since turning pro in 2015, putting him high on the list of top American heavyweight contenders.

“Salita Promotions prides itself on showcasing and promoting its fighters and that really impresses me,” said Franklin. “I believe that Salita Promotions gives me the best opportunity to become heavyweight world champion. Dmitriy understands boxing and I look forward to gaining his guidance and knowledge.”

Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, Franklin has turned to promoter Dmitriy Salita to help take him to the next level. Salita has worked to revitalize world class boxing in Detroit, an effort that produced the highest-rated ShoBox card in five years when Claressa Shields defeated Hanna Gabriels at the Masonic Temple in June.

The promoter will look to take advantage of the city’s rich sports history to build a fan base for Franklin and will give him exposure on national broadcast platforms in the biggest fight cities throughout the country.

“I have watched Jermaine for the last two years and I’ve seen his desire, dedication and commitment to the sport,” said Salita. “I spend a lot of time in Michigan and I make sure to educate myself on up-and-coming fighters in the area. Jermaine’s boxing record speaks for itself, It’s an honor to add him to my promotional stable.”

Franklin had a standout amateur career in which he became a National Golden Gloves champion while picking up wins over the likes of Cassius Chaney and Cam F. Awesome to garner buzz for a possible spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team. However, Franklin decided to make the move to the pro ranks and begin his climb towards the heavyweight world championship.

“I want to raise the competition in the heavyweight division,” said Franklin. “There are some great heavyweights like Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua that are putting the division back on top. I want to be right there with them and have a hand in making the division must-watch TV once again.”

“Jermaine is the best American heavyweight prospect in boxing and he’s just a few fights away from being a familiar name for fans,” said Salita. “He has the pedigree to be the next great American heavyweight fighter. I feel confident that his name will stand tall with other great Michigan fighters such as Tommy Hearns, Floyd Mayweather and Claressa Shields.”

The sought-after heavyweight has beaten five undefeated fighters so far in his career and most recently won a 10-round decision over veteran Craig Lewis in July. Franklin will look to return to the ring soon to continue to fight his way to the top of the heavyweight division.

MASSEY BIDDING FOR CRUISE CONTROL – EYES OKOLIE CLASH

JACK MASSEY BELIEVES that a couple of recent high profile fights in his weight division have potentially given the cruiserweights a bad name.

The 14-0 Massey, who goes by the name of ‘One Smack’, is keen to propel himself into the thick of things and returns to action on the mammoth Manchester Arena card on December 22 as one of the support acts to Josh Warrington defending his IBF world featherweight title against two-weight world champion Carl Frampton.

Fights that have been given the big build up, such as Lawrence Okolie-Isaac Chamberlain and Matty Askin-Okolie, have failed to live up to their billing and Massey fears the boxing public could be turned off from the 200 pounders.

“Yeah, a little bit, I definitely think so myself,” considered the 25-year-old. “You don’t want people to watch fights like that and think it is what boxing is about. Matty Askin is a talent, so is Chamberlain, but Okolie is just awkward and holds a lot.

“He made them look mediocre as well as himself,” added Jack, who says the hype around these fights was not justified in the ring.

“No, not really, but there is a lot of talent in the cruiserweight division at the moment with a lot of good up and coming young fighters.

“If you saw the Okolie-Askin fight it was a bit of a stinker and you don’t want people to watch that and think that is what the cruiserweights are about. You want people to be interested in the cruiserweight division and see some good fights.”

Massey views himself as the man to restore the sparkle to the division and would willingly put himself forward to challenge Okolie. However, he suspects he is not viewed as an ideal candidate for a voluntary defence of a title and he will have to force the issue by earning mandatory status.

“I definitely think it is time to step up and obviously fight for some titles – we need a big title fight now. I feel like I am ready for that.

“My last fight – against Ian Tims – was a bit of a step up and, from what I am hearing from my management, a lot of people don’t want to fight me now and are ducking and diving a little bit.

“It seems like it will be harder to get a title shot unless I get into a mandatory position. So I just need to crack on and get some good fights, starting on December 22. I need to get cracking up the rankings then see what we can get.

“It is a great show to be on with some top fights on it and I think my tickets are going to fly out for it.

“We’d like the Okolie fight and he’s now got the target on his back, hasn’t he? Obviously styles make fights and it would be an awkward fight, but we have had a look at him and seen a few things.

“He has won the British and Commonwealth so he is the one you are going to target and we would like that fight. If not, we will go back to the drawing board and see what is best for us in getting up the rankings.

“It doesn’t sound like Okolie will take the fight so I can’t see it happening any time soon.”

IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington takes on former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd live on BT Sport Box Office. JJ Metcalf will defend his WBC International super-welterweight title against Liam Williams in support of the main event, while Mark Heffron will challenge for the British middleweight title.

Belfast’s blue chip featherweight prospect Michael Conlan (9-0) also features on the bill along with world flyweight title challenger Paddy Barnes (5-1) and unbeaten Light Heavyweight contender Steven Ward (9-0).

Tickets are priced at £50 Upper Tier, £80 Tier, £100 Tier, £150 Tier, £200 Floor/Tier, £300 Floor, £400 Floor, £600 Inner Ring VIP Hospitality and are available.

VACANT WBC 154 POUND SILVER BELT CHAMPIONSHIP MAKES PERFECT SENSE FOR A LIAM SMITH-ROBERTO GARCIA MATCH-UP

Deerfield Beach, FL (October 31, 2018)—Roberto Garcia wants to reclaim his WBC Silver Belt Championship and what better way than to match him up with England’s Liam Smith for the vacant title.

Garcia (41-4, 24 KOs), who has been in training since losing his Silver belt to Martin Murray in a 12-round unanimous decision on June 23, is ready to take on the durable Smith (26-2-1, 14 KOs) for the belt.

“I saw Smith’s fight against Jaime Munguia for the WBO Super Welterweight title on television,” said Garcia. “It was an all-out war and I feel that the two of us can bring the same type of fight and intensity into the ring for the title. I’m ready to go.”

Smith went the distance in Las Vegas with Munguia and lost his interim WBO Super Welterweight title, which he had won in beating Liam Williams on April 8, 2017 and defended in a rematch with Williams on Nov. 11, 2017 in winning a majority decision.

“Garcia is ready to make the fight with Liam Smith and so is his promoter, Don King,” said manager Lee Holliday. “Both of these fighters are true warriors, so let’s get it on for the title.”

All it takes is a phone call from promoter Frank Warren to Don King and the fight will be on.

The Case for WBA Champion Danny Roman as the BWAA “Fighter of the Year”

ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2018) – With three successful title defenses on the year, WBA champion Danny “Baby Face Assassin” Roman has as good as case as anyone for the Boxing Writers Association of America “Fighter of the Year” award.

Roman, 28, began the year traveling to Japan to defend his 122-pound title against the No. 13 rated challenger and previously unbeaten Ryo Matsumoto. The Los Angeles-based Roman handled his first defense with aplomb, thoroughly outpointing the taller Matsumoto through 12-rounds (118-110, 119-109 twice).

After his win against Matsumoto, Roman talked unification, but that would seemingly have to wait until after his mandatory defense with top challenger Moises Flores in June. The fight, which was televised live on Showtime from the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys’ indoor practice facility, was another one-side affair with Roman controlling the fight from start to finish (120-108, 118-110, 116-112).

Roman’s next fight would be against the No. 4 ranked Gavin McDonnell in October from Chicago and streamed live on DAZN, the sports streaming giant that signed Roman to a long-term deal in July.

Roman battered and bruised McDonnell to the tune of a tenth round knockout. Roman again called for a unification fight against any of the other belt holders.

“It has been my intention to unify ever since I became world champion last year in September,” said Roman, who is promoted by long-time promoter Thompson Boxing and new partner Matchroom Boxing. “I don’t care who steps up to the challenge. I’ll fight any of them. I want all the belts.”

SAM MAXWELL – “I AM READY NOW.”

SAM MAXWELL insists that he is ready to step up and face Britain’s best Super-Lightweights.

Maxwell (9-0) aims to make it a perfect ten as a professional when he boxes on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s IBF World Featherweight title defence against Carl Frampton at Manchester Arena on December 22.

Despite his lack of professional experience Maxwell mixed with greats like Vasyl Lomachenko in the WSB lasting the five round distance in both contests against the brilliant Ukrainian.

So boxing the Best of British in the ten stone division holds no fears for the Liverpool boxer who trains in Glasgow under Danny Vaughan.

Maxwell said: “I see myself getting up there with boxers like Josh Taylor, Jack Catterall, Terry Flanagan and the rest of the division very soon.

“I’m ready now. I was 30 years-old last week and if I’m not ready now I will never be ready. I will fight anyone. The better the opponent, the better I will perform and prove how good I am.

“There are so many good British boxers at ten stone, but without doubt the toughest one to face would be Taylor.

“He is world class and definitely the top one. Flanagan is also at world level.

“People are writing him off, but I think he is very good and last weekend he just ran into a quality operator, Regis Prograis.

“There are a lot of good names, but there are different standards among them. Ohara Davies for example is decent, but didn’t look as good against Jack Catterall.

“Jack is one of those fighters who always finds a way to win. He looks special at times and then looks to just win which he does and did so comfortably against Ohara.

“I am looking to breakthrough onto that scene as early as possible next year.

“There has been some top domestic fight at Super-Lightweight recently like Jack v Ohara and Glenn Foot v Robbie Davies.

“I watched those fights and thought, ‘I’m not far off them’. It has got me and Danny excited.

“I have got the talent. All I am missing is the experience in the rounds, but I feel I am ready to step up. I am looking forward to the challenge and a big year next year.”

Maxwell is excited to be ending 2018 on a stunning BT Sport pay-per-view bill that also includes his close friend JJ Metcalf defending his WBC International Super Welterweight Title against Liam Williams.

He added: “I am going with Frampton, but I wrote Warrington off against Lee Selby, but he put on a masterclass. You can never write him off.

“The fight I’m really looking forward to on the bill is JJ against Liam.

“JJ is an old stablemate of mine and I really hope he can pull through. It is a massive fight and massive ask, but if anyone can do it he can.

“His character and willpower means it will take something special to beat him.”

IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington takes on former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd live on BT Sport Box Office. JJ Metcalf (18-0) will defend his WBC International super-welterweight title against Liam Williams (18-2-1) in support of the main event, while Mark Heffron (21-0) will challenge for the British middleweight title.

New WBA Middleweight Champion Rob Brant Basking in the Glow, but Ready for ‘Next Assignment’

Brand-new WBA World Middleweight Champion Rob “Bravo” Brant says he goes everywhere with his new best friend. “The belt hasn’t left my side since they handed it to me,” laughs the personable new champion from Saint Paul, Minnesota.

28-year-old Brant (24-1, 16 KOs) says he went into his main-event showdown with then champion Ryota Murata (14-2, 11 KOs), last Saturday night at the Park MGM in Las Vegas (and live on ESPN+), unaware he was such a heavy underdog.

“I really did go into it very confident I would win, just off the preparations we did,” said Brant, who was having his first fight with former world champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad as his trainer. “I tried to stay away from news when I was in training, so I had no idea how big of an underdog I was. We had a post-fight press conference and that was when I found out. When reporters were asking about it. I had no idea. It wouldn’t have deterred me anyway if I had known.”

Despite the doubts of the bookmakers, Brant cruised to a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision over 2012 Olympic gold medalist Murata, with two judges giving him all but one round, the other all but two. Brant busted up the now ex-champion with a piston-like jab and peppered him with combinations throughout what turned out to be a surprisingly dominant performance.

According to CompuBox statistics, Brant landed 356 of 1,262 punches (28 percent) while Murata connected with just 180 of 774 (23 percent).

“As a pro, he hasn’t seen what I gave him,” explained Brant. We knew he had a hard time with hand speed and jabs. He locks up when punches are being thrown, so we made sure we kept him backing up and worried about the jab and punches in general. The more he thinks about my shots, the less he throws. We knew we’d be able to keep him on his back foot. Eddie Mustafa is very strict on letting the hands go. We were big on the cardio in training and keeping the punch rate high. And when you’re keeping the jab out there all the time, other shots open up.”

Brant says at fight’s end, he wasn’t worried about the decision going his way.

“I’ve always felt that judges’ decisions are out of my hands. I was nervous about it, you don’t know until they announce your name, but I knew I had done what I felt was my best work. I had a great sense of pride and relief knowing I put it all out there and did everything possible to win. But now that I have won, it’s kind of like having giant weight lifted off my shoulders. It’s definitely my biggest accomplishment ever, winning in Vegas against a former Olympic gold medallist. It’s everything I ever worked for. It was the best feeling in the world. I knew how much I worked for that. Boxing gives back what you put into it and I put my everything into it.”

Although Brant and promoters GCP reportedly agreed to a rematch before the fight, the new champion says he’s not sure the now ex-champion wants it.

“All the talk of a rematch has been from his promoters. I haven’t heard him say anything about it. He might be a little discouraged right now. I’m not saying he won’t be able to come back, but I don’t think he wants it right now. I’ll just go on to bigger and better in the division. Once you win a title, there are no more easy fights. Until you are the undisputed king, you’re always taking steps up in class in every fight.”

Brant says he took a week off but is now back in the gym and ready for what comes next.

“I’m just waiting for the next assignment to work toward. I want to know who my next opponent is as soon as possible, so I can go to sleep at night thinking of what I’m going to do. Watching film and looking for flaws and things I can exploit. That’s when I‘m really the most comfortable. When I have an assignment. It’ll be a big name eventually. I’m there now. So I’m just waiting to see who is next for me to spend all my time watching that person.”

Brant gives a big piece of the credit for his upset victory to the only man to ever beat him. Last October, he stepped up in weight to participate in the World Boxing Super Series as a super middleweight and lost a one-sided decision to former light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer in Germany.

“The thought of what happened against Braehmer was always in the background. That’s what really motivated me to be the best I could in this fight. I knew I was better than I was in that fight. I had to prove it by doing what I’m capable of. The loss to Braehmer will be in the back of my mind forever. I won’t let anyone else do that to me again. I will never forget that loss and I’ve been a better fighter from that point forward.”

WARRINGTON TRAINING HARDER TO ‘STICK TWO FINGERS UP’ AT DOUBTERS AGAIN

Josh Warrington confesses he found it ‘satisfying’ when he proved wrong the doubters who wrote off his chances of becoming world champion.

He also added that it will be the same thing again when he defeats Carl Frampton in their BT Sport Box Office clash on December 22nd in Manchester.

After being asked if being the underdog gave him an extra edge in his preparation’s for Frampton, Warrington responded with no hesitation;

“Yes, it’s making me train harder and I want to turn around and stick two fingers up, it was sweetly satisfying after the last fight.”

In his previous fight, domestic rival Lee Selby was a clear favourite heading into the contest against Josh Warrington.

But the Leeds underdog re-wrote the script and stunned the boxing world by out-boxing Selby to a shock victory, claiming the IBF world featherweight title in the process.

“I don’t want to be too cocky… but when all them haters, especially on social media, were writing me off saying ‘Warrington’s going to get schooled! He’s going to get his head boxed off! He’s going to get knocked out unconscious on the floor!

“…to be able to after the fight, scroll through my social media when I got home, my world title sat there, cup of tea… you were saying?!” joked the IBF world champion.

He continued: “I think it is nice to turn around, especially when you’re doubted, it wasn’t that a few doubted me, the whole country doubted me who took interest in that fight. Nobody was giving me a round never mind the fight, and the way I went about it, it was a bit sweeter.

“… and I feel like it will be the same with this one [against Frampton].”

Merseyside will be represented as Liverpool’s 9-0 Welterweight prospect Sam Maxwell returns to action on the show along with Formby’s 6-0 Heavyweight Alex Dickinson. Derbyshire’s highly touted Cruiserweight Jack ‘One Smack’ Massey will also feature.

Tickets are priced at £50 Upper Tier, £80 Tier, £100 Tier, £150 Tier, £200 Floor/Tier, £300 Floor, £400 Floor, £600 Inner Ring VIP Hospitality and are available.

Ceylan’s EU title fight with Sanchez postponed due to illness

Dennis Ceylan has been forced to postpone his EU Featherweight title fight with Jesus Sanchez on November 24 at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus due to illness.

The 29 year-old has been suffering with influenza and unable to train adequately for his upcoming revenge mission against the current Spanish Champion, who defeated Ceylan via knockout at the Struer Energi Park in March.

“I’m disappointed not to be able to box on November 24, but this is a very important fight for me and I need to make sure I’m 100% ready when I enter the ring, and unfortunately, that’s not going to be possible,” said Ceylan.

“I’ll now take some time to rest before getting back in the gym and training harder than ever. I want revenge on Sanchez for beating me in March, and I look forward to a new date being scheduled once I’ve recovered.”

Promoter Nisse Sauerland has expressed his regret at postponing the show but says fans will not have to wait long before seeing Ceylan and Sanchez in the ring.

“It’s with regret that we must postpone the show,” said Sauerland. “But with just a month to go, Dennis is unwell and unable to train, and for a fight of this magnitude, it would to be too big of a risk to allow him to continue.

“Dennis will not be out of action for long. In a week or two, he should be ready to resume training. I will now speak with Sanchez’s team and the EBU, and will look to reschedule the fight as soon as possible.”

Customers who have already purchased tickets for the November 24 event at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus should contact Ticketmaster to receive a full refund.

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 30, 2018) – TMB & PRB Entertainment and Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions, present “Whose ‘0’ Will Go 2”, a live boxing event taking place at the Scottish Rite Theatre in San Antonio, TX, on December 1, 2018. In the 10-round main event, undefeated super lightweights Kendo Castaneda (14-0, 7 KOs) and Gilbert Venegas Jr. (10-0, 6 KOs), will battle for the vacant WBA-NABA title. The entire card will be streamed via Facebook’s FIGHTNIGHT LIVE channel, which has already served more than three million fight fans since May 2017.

Venegas age 24, is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory against Armando Cardenas (9-2, 5 KOs), a fight that took place at the Scottish Rite Theatre on September 8, 2018. With momentum on his side, Venegas is determined to remain unbeaten with a victory against Castaneda.

“Castaneda comes in with an undefeated record, so this will no doubt be my toughest opponent of my career, but a fight I believe I can win.” stated Gilbert Venegas Jr. “I’ve worked very hard to get into this position, to fight for a title, so rest assure, I’m not going to let this opportunity pass me by. Being that this will be my first shot at a title, you better believe I’m coming to win, and win impressively. I’m going to be the new NABA super lightweight champion and on December 1st, my hands will be raised in victory.”

Getting a NABA title shot on my second fight with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing represents a huge door being kicked down for me. If I can’t beat a guy like Venegas, I have no business in boxing.”

Mikey Garcia vacates Lightweight titles; seeks bout with Spence

Mikey Garcia vacated his IBF Lightweight title as he closes in on a fight with welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“Yes, I vacated,” Garcia told ESPN on Tuesday afternoon. “I just didn’t have enough time to negotiate the Commey fight in the time the IBF required so I needed to vacate. I have a lot of options but the fight with Spence is the fight I want.”

“The IBF was pushing for the Commey fight ASAP but with the WBC I have more time to decide what I want to do,” Garcia said. “But I’m looking for bigger fights. We have options and I just couldn’t get excited for the Richard Commey fight and the timing [the IBF] required to get it done was not enough time to negotiate considering the other options I have.”

“I met with Mikey and the fact is Mikey is not the kind of guy to say something for the heck of it,” promoter Richard Schaefer said. “When he said he wanted to fight Spence and that it was the fight that motivated him and excited him, he was serious. He takes pride in winning these world titles, but if you are one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world you want these big events and big challenges. For Mikey to get motivated after already having achieved so much, he really wants to test himself. He wants to dare to be great and the fight with Spence is the fight he told me he wants to pursue and that’s the fight we are pursuing.

“I will be sitting down with Mikey and Al and see if we can get it done. I know both fighters want it and hopefully it’s the fight we will see. It will be a big, big event. You have two guys on top of their game, two guys in the top five pound-for-pound in the prime of their careers. It doesn’t get much bigger than that.”

“The fight is being discussed but there are a lot of things that need to be addressed,” he said. “There are ongoing conversations, but Mikey’s statement in vacating the IBF belt is, ‘Hey, I want that big challenge, I want Spence.’ That’s the statement. And so now it’s a matter to see if in fact it can be done. But it’s not like it’s going to be announced next week.

“Mikey realizes if he goes and beats Errol Spence he will be the new pay-per-view star and he would be No. 1 pound-for-pound and for Spence to beat Garcia would be a tremendous start to establish himself as a pay-per-view fighter.”

“It was not unexpected,” DiBella said of Garcia’s decision to vacate. “Now I will be working out a deal for Richard to fight Isa Chaniev. Richard wants to fight the biggest and best fights at 135 pounds. We made a deal with Mikey but we knew there were other fights being discussed so we’re not shocked. I think Richard beats Chaniev. I will look to make that deal and get him in the ring as soon as possible.”

Split-T Management’s Ivan Baranchyk stops Anthony Yigit in 7 to win IBF Junior Welterweight title

NEW YORK (October 30, 2018) –Split-T Management’s Ivan Baranchyk won the IBF Junior Welterweight title with a 7th round stoppage over Anthony Yigit.

The bout, which took place in New Orleans, was also part of the World Boxing Super Series, giving Baranchyk more than just a world title to celebrate.

Baranchyk took the fight to Yigit, as he landed many power shots that made the left eye of Yigit swell very badly. With the eye just about closed, the fight was halted after the 7th frame, gibing Baranchyk the coveted world title.

Baranchyk will now face the winner of next Saturday’s contest between Josh Taylor and Ryan Martin, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland.

“This is the best feeling in the world,” said Baranchyk. “To become world champion, I feel like I am the best fighter in the tournament. It was a good fight, I was able to implore my style and get the stoppage. I will rest for a a week or so, and then start my work for my next fight.”

“I couldn’t be happier than I am for Ivan. He deserved this and worked for it as hard as anyone can. You have to be around Ivan to really realize how intense and dedicated he is. We are looking forward to the next round and I honestly don’t think Ivan cares which one he fights,” said David McWater of Split T Management.

Baranchyk is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, Holden promotions and Fight Promotions.

HEARN PROMISES A ‘WILD’ NIGHT IN KANSAS

Matchroom Boxing and DAZN are heading to Kansas – and promoter Eddie Hearn has promised that the stacked card will deliver a ‘wild’ night – with tickets for the action on November 17 at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Kansas, live on DAZN.

Tickets are on sale now from ticketmaster.com starting at just $25! Click here to book!

Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller tops the bill as he continues his march to World honors against fellow unbeaten banger Bogdan Dinu, with chief-support provided by two-weight World ruler Claressa Shields who looks to add the WBC Middleweight strap to her WBA and IBF crowns against tough Scottish challenger.

Middleweight contenders Luis Arias and Gabriel Rosado clash in what promises to be a real war as the pair look to gatecrash the lucrative top table, and there’s an all-Mexican clash and a homecoming for Brandon Rios against Ramon Alvarez, brother of ‘Canelo’’, as both men look to make a splash at Welterweight.

Promoter Eddie Hearn told a press conference on Saturday that a big reason for taking the show to Kansas was the rise of Team USA 2016 Olympic bronze medal man Nico Hernandez, the 22 year old who has raced to 5-0 (4KOs) – the Wichita talent fights for the third time in the Kansas Star Casino and Arena since debuting there in March 2017.

Rankin has some high-profile support from home on the bill in the shape of three-weight World champion Ricky Burns in his 51st pro fight and a second fight in the paid ranks for Commonwealth bronze medal man John Docherty – with unbeaten Light-Heavyweight contender Anthony Sims Jr. () and Brooklyn’s exciting newcomer to the Middleweight scene Nikita Ababiy, fresh from a first round KO on debut in Chicago earlier in the month.

FIGHTER QUOTES

Eddie Hearn: I watched Nico Hernandez box in Kansas on YouTube and I saw what we love at Matchroom Boxing – passion, excitement and a city that is behind the sport and their fighters. Then I realized that Brandon Rios is from Kansas, and we decided to take this event to the KSA and I am really, excited.

We’ve got about 6,000 seats to sell, and I believe we’re going to sell every one of them. This is part of our plan and process, to go to cities where we can get excitemne.t We’ve been to Chicago and Boston and they were great, people are happy that we are there and thanking us for bringing boxing to those cities. With Kansas, it’s a whole other level of excitement, and the one word I use to describe this show is wild.

Nico Hernandez: Kansas has never seen a card like this. I’ve been getting a lot of support back home and I can’t wait to be part of a great show. Claressa and I put in work at the 2016 Olympics so it’s great to have her on the show and another Kansan in Brandon, it’s going to be a brilliant night and I can’t wait.

Brandon Rios: I’m going back to Kansas! It’s the middle of nowhere, but it’s Kansas! I’m excited to be going back to fight there for the first time since 2009. I always come to fight and fighting Canelo’s older brother is great, everyone knows how I fight, and I am ready, I’m honored to be part of a bill stacked with talented fighters.

Luis Arias: Losses are over-rated – unless you have 11 of them like Gabe has – it’s about who you fight. I took a chance in my last fight against Daniel Jacobs, I had the opportunity to skip the line and jump into the mix with the top guys.

Even though it was the worst performance of my life, I fell short, you take the best out of the situation. I was able to go 12 rounds on one foot with a top guy. I know what kind of fighter Gabe is and what kind of fight this will be, he’ll bring it. I asked for this fight when I was 10-0 and honestly, his chances of beating me would have been better back then.

I’m stronger, I’m in my prime, and there’s nothing he can bring that can hurt me, that I haven’t seen. I know he’s tough, I’ve seen more of him than he has of me and we’re going to steal the show

Gabriel Rosado: It’s been a long time since my last fight but in that time, I’ve been able to re-group, focus, get back with my original trainer and I’m looking forward to this opportunity. Luis has said a lot about my losses, but win, lose or draw, everybody respects me.

He ran in his last fight, remember that. He doesn’t know what he’s got coming. I like that all the Middleweight titles are with DAZN – congratulations to Demetrius Andrade for his win, that’s a fight I’d love, Danny Jacobs too and Canelo – I want to smash this clown and then meet the top Middleweights.

Hannah Rankin: It’s an amazing opportunity for me to fight Claressa Shields, it’s one that I wanted so I am thrilled that we have got it. It’s going to be a fantastic fight, we both have aggressive come-forward styles, so I am looking forward to putting that into action as I think we’ve got one hell of a fight here.

Claressa Shields: Eddie said I am an Olympic gold medalist – I’m a two-time Olympic gold medalist, the only one in the US – but it’s cool, I have so many accomplishments it’s hard to keep up with them myself. I don’t know right now if I am a unified champion, close to being an undisputed champion – I just know I have a lot of belts at home.

Only being 6-0 and having two world titles at both Middleweight and Super-Middleweight, trying to become unified World champion – I don’t have to keep saying that I am the greatest woman boxer of all-time because you can see it. When you talk about women tat box the way that I do there’s only one that’s with me at the top and that’s Katie Taylor, anyone else is further down the ladder. I’m number one, and Katie is 1 ½, that’s how great she is.

All the respect to the women that box though, we have more than one fight to fight, we’re fighting each other but also fighting for equal pay, equal TV time, equal sponsorship as the men. Everybody wants us to play nice, but, you know I am not really that nice, and when I get inside the ring, I’m a beast.

Come November 17, I’m going to show Hannah that she may be tough, but she’s too damn tough, she wants to stay in there. I hope she works on her head movement because I’ve got a hell of an uppercut that I’ve been working on and it might out her down. I’m not training to be at HR level. The girl HR got beat by, I’d take her out within four rounds. I hope she comes in to box me – if she comers forward, it’ll be an early night, if she’s smarter, maybe she’ll last a little longer.

Jarrell Miller: Credit to Bodgan for taking the fight – I’m fighting people I have no animosity to! He’s undefeated, he’s been in camp for a fight last weekend, so I know he’s in shape. it’s been a long journey to get to where we are today, I’m finally at the stage where I am getting that title shot and being in a place to fight the big guys. The proof is in the pudding, being big is not a crime. Big Baby is big and I’m going to keep throwing big punches and getting big wins.

I’m finally getting the chance to headline a big card thanks to Eddie and Matchroom and I am going in for the kill. I’ve been in the gym since winning in Chicago and my hands feel good, so as always, I’m going for the KO. I want those big names, the Anthony Joshua’s, the Dillian Whyte’s, Deontay aka Beyonce Wilder – you know I can’t stand that guy. So, let’s get this win and then if Dillian doesn’t fight AJ, I can turn that English Muffin into toasted strudel.

Michael Dutchover Looks to Close out 2018 With Another Win

PHILADELPHIA, PENN. / ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2018) – The fast-rising Michael Dutchover (11-0, 8 KOs), with four solid wins on the year, aims to close out 2018 with another victory on Friday, Nov. 16, from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

Dutchover, who will turn 21 the day before the event, will fight veteran and former world title challenger Daulis Prescott (31-9, 24 KOs) in the 8-round main event of Thompson Boxing’s “Locked n’ Loaded” season finale.

Dutchover, a junior lightweight fighting out of Midland, Tex., has had a breakout year of sorts with his recent display of power punching. His last three wins have come by way of knockout, including a sensational second round, one-punch destruction of Sergio Martinez in July.

Prior to that, the West Texas warrior, who trains in Los Angeles, removed Mike Fowler in three rounds. Two months ago in September, Dutchover stopped Bergman Aguilar in the fifth.

Dutchover, however, understands the Colombian-born Prescott poses a far more serious challenge than any other foe he has faced this year, or in his young career.

“This year was all about elevating my level of competition,” said Dutchover, who is promoted by industry veterans Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing .”Prescott is battle tested and will be ready to fight. I love a challenge and I’m embracing it.”

Dutchover’s confidence is a direct result of the high-level sparring he receives on a routine basis from the many top-notch gyms in the Los Angeles area.

“I’ve been in with some of the top names in the sport and they all teach me something different,” Dutchover said. “Danny Roman, Oscar Valdez and Jessie Magdaleno are a few that come to mind. They are incredible boxers and good people too. I’m fortunate to have met them this early in my career.”

All fights will be live streamed on via our Facebook page.

The livestream starts at 8:00 p.m. PT / 11:00 p.m. ET with Beto Duran as the blow-by-blow announcer and Josesito Lopez providing expert, color commentary.

And the winner is set to be heading straight into a mega fight against Valdez who has made four defences of the title he won in July 2016 against Matias Carlos Adrian Rueda.

Valdez who has won all 24 professional fights, 19 by KO said: “I have always said that I want to fight the best.

“Frampton and Warrington are both big names in the sport. I’m ready to fight the winner and unify titles.”

Valdez’s promoter Bob Arum has said he has already spoke with Frank Warren about matching the winner of the Christmas cracker between Warrington and Frampton.

He told ‘The Boxing Beat’ on ESPN+: “We’re looking at January 12 for Valdez to fight on ESPN and then, assuming he wins that fight, then we would put him in with the Frampton-Warrington winner.

“I’ve already talked to Frank Warren about that.”

Valdez, 27, suffered a broken jaw when he outpointed Scott Quigg in March that has kept him sidelined since that win.

There had been speculation he may have boxed Frampton in August, but he hadn’t recovered from his injury in time.

Valdez warned Warrington and Frampton: “I want to prove I’m the best featherweight in the world.”
