Stephen Fulton looks to stay undefeated Tuesday night in Bethlehem

Philadelphia, PA (September 24, 2018) Tomorrow night, undefeated featherweight prospect Stephen Fulton takes the next step towards being recognized as one of the emerging stars of the division when he takes on Esteban Aquino (12-5, 7 KOs) at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

The bout will be part of a ten-bout card promoted by King’s Promotions.

The main event will feature an eight-round junior welterweight battle between Anthony Mercado (11-4, 9 KOs) of Puerto Rico battling Victor Vazquez (10-4, 3 KOs) of Yonkers, New York.

Fulton of Philadelphia has an impressive mark of 13-0 with six knockouts.

In an era where most prospects do not see a serious challenge until they have fought more than 20 bouts, Fulton on the other-hand has already defeated five undefeated foes.

“Everything is good, I am ready to fight on Tuesday night,” said Fulton.

The 24 year-old Fulton doesn’t know too much about Aquino, but he is not taking him lightly.

“I don’t know much about him. I tried to fight some tape, but there wasn’t anything on him. This is not the 1st time that I have not seen my opponent, but it doesn’t mean that I won;t get the job done.”

With the quality wins already on his resume, Fulton feels the time for a big opportunity is in the future.

“I feel as though my time is now. I can see myself fighting for, and winning a world title in either 2019 or early 2020.”

Fulton believes that being from one of boxing hotbed cities in Philadelphia is a bonus as he can get great sparring with top-notch fighters.

“It helps being from Philadelphia. It makes a big impact that a lot of great fighters are from here. Sure there is a little pressure when you start winning to become the next champion, but it also makes you a better fighter.”

“Tuesday night, I am looking to show my skills and show separation that will let everyone know that I am on another level. I just want to continue to progress as I have some good fights lined up after this. The fans should just stay tuned as I am almost there.”

In six-round bouts:

Raeese Aleem (11-0, 5 KOs) of Las Vegas takes on Alcides Santiago (6-2, 5 KOs) of Arecibo, Puerto Rico in a super bantamweight bout.

Joe Hanks (22-2, 14 KOs) of Newark, NJ will takes on Terrance Marbra (9-6, 7 KOs) of Saint Petersburg, FL in a heavyweight contest.

ADAMS OUT TO KO MILLAN AND WOW NEW FANS

NICOLA ADAMS believes a fourth straight knockout win is the best way to keep her fan base growing.

Adams (4-0) faces her first major professional test when she meets Mexican Isabel Millan (22-4-1) for the vacant interim WBO female Flyweight crown at Leicester’s Morningside Arena on Saturday October 6.

He last three opponents Maryan Salazar, Soledad Macedo and Soledad del Valle Frias have all been stopped inside three rounds.

Now, the double Olympic gold medallist whose popularity is soaring expects experienced Millan to go the same way.

Adams, 35, said: “I am happy to get a reputation as a puncher and I want that to continue. That is what people want to see.

“They want to see entertaining fights. They want to see knockouts and that is what I want to continue to deliver.

“I just hope Isabel comes ready to fight because I want to put on a show for the crowd and then it’s onto the next one.

“My coaches have had a good look at her. We have the tactics in place and I am not worried at all.”

If she comes through against Millan, promoter Frank Warren is confident of luring full WBO champion Arely Mucino to Britain to defend against Adams.

But Adams won’t be content with her fight career until she has dominated all the flyweight division champions besides Mucina – Leonela Paola Yudica (IBF), Naoko Fujioka (WBA) and Ibeth Zamora Silva (WBC).

“I want to unify the flyweight division and I may do a little bit more in boxing after, but that is my goal right now,” she added.

“There are so many more girls and women getting involved in boxing now at amateur level and I’m sure that will filter through to the pros.

“It will be nice to sit back when I have retired and watch all the British girls winning tournaments, Olympic medals and going on to be world champions as professionals.”

The Time Is Now’ is headlined by Jack Catterall v Ohara Davies. Leicester’s own, Lyon Woodstock defends his WBO European Super-Featherweight title against Archie Sharp. Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois takes on former world title challenger Kevin Johnson. Olympian and double gold medallist Nicola Adams will be fighting Isabel Millan for the Interim WBO World Female Flyweight Title and Leicester’s British Super-Featherweight champion Sam Bowen also feature on a major night of boxing televised live on BT Sport.

Tickets are priced at £40, £60, £100, £150, £200 and are available to purchase from Eventbrite and Ticketmaster.

Selina Barrios Retains NABF Lightweight Title with Dominating Unanimous Decision Over Patricia Juarez

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (September 22, 2018) – Tonight at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, TX, San Antonio’s female boxing sensation, Selina “Aztec Queen” Barrios (5-0, 2 KOs), remained undefeated with a dominating 10-round unanimous decision victory over Patricia Juarez (4-1), sister of WBC Bantamweight champion, Mariana “Barbie” Juarez (50-9-4, 13 KOs). With the victory, Barrios retains her NABF Lightweight title.

In the early rounds, both fighters were very active, throwing a lot of punches, but Barrios was the one landing the cleaner shots. Although Juarez was doing her best to box from the outside using a one-two combo, her power wasn’t enough to keep Barrios off her as she kept coming forward, landing her signature overhand right. Barrios hurt Juarez in round five, knocking her mouthpiece out with right hook, forcing the referee to stop the action momentarily. Juarez recovered but never was able to stop Barrios from coming forward as she continued to land thumping power shots. A clash of head butts cut Barrios on the forehead during the middle rounds, but she was never bothered by them. In the later rounds, Barrios continued to apply pressure, forcing Juarez to fight on the inside. Juarez showed a lot of heart making it to the final bell but came up short as Barrios remains undefeated. Scorecards read 100-89 and 99-91 twice all in favor of Barrios.

“I felt I controlled the fight from the opening bell,” said Selina Barrios. “Juarez was a very tough opponent and I give her a lot of credit for going the distance. I hit her with a lot of power shots and she hung in there. I didn’t feel any power in her punches, so I kept coming forward. I got the victory and I’m ready to fight any of the champions at Lightweight. Katie Taylor, Mikaela Mayer and Amanda Serrano, I’m coming for you guys. You can run, but you can’t hide.”

This event titled “Heavyweight Boxing Showdown” was brought to you by CCC ENTERTAINMENT in conjunction with CC HOOKS, HOUSTON ASTROS, and KEEPPUNCHING ENTERTAINMENT.

GONZALEZ VS HERNANDEZ ABO TITLE FIGHT BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE AT THE PARAMOUNT

On Friday night, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing’s Rockin’ Fights lived up to every bit of its expectation. Fans at The Paramount witnessed, knockouts, all out brawls, great boxing skills, and a main event for the ages.

The main event last night was a throwback to the glory days of boxing when neighborhood rivalries filled the venerable NY fight clubs as a sold-old crowd engrossed in the thrilling, tooth and nail war betweenDANNY “EL GALLO” GONZALEZ andJOHNNY “HITMAN” HERNANDEZ. The crowd was so loud that you could barley hear yourself think. The incredible back and forth action was amplified by the crowd’s alternating and competing shouts of “Johnny” and “Danny”.

Hernandez started the fight fast, boxing smartly in the first two rounds landing crisp combinations to the stalking Gonzalez. Gonzalez closed the distance in the third round and from that point on it became a war of attrition in a spectacular fight. Gonzalez finished a bit stronger as the ten-round epic battle came to a close with everyone standing and cheering. When the scores were read to a captivated crowd, the elated new ABO INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION, Danny Gonzalez fell to his knees at the center of the ring with his new title on his shoulder. Gonzalez improves to 17-1-1 (6 KO’s) while Hernandez drops to 9-4 (1 KO). The scores were 95-95, 97-93, and 98-92, for DANNY “EL GALLO” GONZALEZ (majority decision).

The semi-final Jr. Welterweight fight also had the sold-out crowd on its feet as East Hartford’s “ACTION” ANTHONY LAUREANO and Waco, Texas veteran, MARQUIS “THE HAWK” HAWTHORNE stood toe to toe exchanging hard blows for most of the fight. the Undefeated Laureano came away with the hard earned victory by unanimous scores of 59-55, 60-54(2x). Laureano improves to 9-0 3KO’s, while Hawthorne falls to 5-9-1 1KO.

Opening the show was another thrilling battle between Bellport native ALEX VARGAS and tough Philadelphia PA warrior DERRON LAWSON in a 4-round welterweight bout. Vargas was a decorated amateur and had vocal throng of fans in attendance for his pro debut. Both fighters displayed tremendous skill and heart as the two battled for the entire fight, exchanging multiple combinations with no regard. The fight quickly turned into an all out war. It was give and take as Vargas landed vicious head and body shots, then Lawson took his turn doing the same. At the end of the 4-rounds, Vargas took home the unanimous decision victory in his pro-debut. Vargas improves to 1-0, Lawson falls 0-2. Scores were 40-36 on two cards and 39-37 on the third.

A showdown between two pro-debuting prospects, NY Golden Gloves finalist JARED BONILLA (Bellmore) and Western New England Golden Gloves Champion, JOSE MAYSONET (Hartford) also brought the crowd to its feet. After a few back and forth moments, a right hand by Maysonet caused Bonilla’s legs to unsteady. Smelling blood in the water, Maysonet pounced, dropping Bonilla just over fifty seconds into the first round. Twenty seconds later, Maysonet landed flush again, dropping Bonilla, causing the ref to call a stop to the action. In a flash, Maysonet earned his first career victory, by TKO. Bonilla falls to 0-1.

Popular Scottish Light-Heavyweight, SHAUN KENNEDY, picked up his first victory as a pro taking a unanimous decision from Buffalo pro-debuting PEREZ AUGHTRY from Buffalo, NY. Both men exchanged blows through-out the crowd-pleasing 4-round bout. The scores were 40-36 across the board. Kennedy goes to 1-0 with 1 no contest.

CEO of Star Boxing, JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about the action, “This was our 32nd ‘Rockin’ Fights’ show at the Paramount. This series brings an ambience that is truly unrivaled. Last night was a prime example. The fights were intense, and the fans’ enthusiasm matched and contributed to that energy. It was simply priceless, a pugilistic experience that has become a tradition at the best fight club in America. Hats off to the fans and to Danny and Johnny, they fought their hearts out.”

Several well-known local fighters, past and present, were in attendance including #3 World rated Long Island Light Heavweight Joe Smith Jr., popular Long Beach Light Heavy Seanie Monaghan, undefeated prospect Tyrone James, the ever popular Vinny Maddalone, Contender Star Devaun Lee, Curtis Stevens, Larry Barnes and David Telesco.

Star Boxing is pleased to announce the this incredible night of fights will be aired on NESN (New England Sports Network), via tape-delay at a date and time to be announced next week. Commentating the show was NESN’s own Jahmai Webster and former middleweight champion, Dana Rosenblatt.

The next Paramount show is set for November 30th. Get your tickets early!!!

Foster decisions Fernandez

O’Shaquie Foster won a 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Jon Fernandez in a super featherweight bout at The Firelake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Foster moved, and punched off the ropes that befuddled the power punching Fernandez.

Foster, 129 1/2 lbs of Houston, Texas won by scores of 98-92 on all cards, and is now 14-2. Fernandez,z 129 3/4 lbs of Spain is 16-1.

Foster landed 145 of 407 punches. Fernandez was 102 of 611.

This was the best fight of my career,” said Foster, who was appearing on the ShoBox series for the fourth time. “I knew I had it in me, I just never put it together. I have a new team, I have a new trainer, a new strength and conditioning coach. This was what I dreamed of and we put in the work to make it happen.

“I knew he was a puncher and he’d come forward the whole fight. I knew I had to work off my jab and use my lateral movement. He had a little power, but he never got me clean. We’re going to sit down and look at the drawing board. I can tell you this, we’re not the B-side anymore.”

“His style was frustrating, but we were expecting it,” said the 23-year-old Fernandez, who was widely regarded as one of the top prospects in boxing. “We thought his conditioning would go down and he’d slow down in the later rounds. He didn’t (slow down) and that surprised me.

“I feel like we can still get better and better. We just had a bad game plan for this fight.”

Irvin Gonzalez won an eight-round unanimous decision over Carlos Ramos in a battle of undefeated featherweights.

Gonzalez, 126 lbs of Worcester, MA won by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74 to raise his mark to 11-0. Ramos, 125 1/2 lbs of Madrid, SPA is 9-1.

Gonzalez landed 72 of 464 punches. Ramos was just 38 of 225.

“It took me a few rounds to figure him out, but once I did he didn’t have anything on me,” said Gonzalez. “He only had the left hand and that was about it. He really didn’t throw any punches.

“This was a big learning experience for me. This was my second eight-rounder and it opened my eyes a little bit. I know I’m conditioned well but I have to go back to work.”

In a fight between undefeated lightweights, Steven Ortiz won an eight-round majority decision over Wesley Ferrer.

Ortiz, 134 1/2 lbs of Philadelphia won by scores of 78-74, 77-75 and 76-76, and is now 9-0. Ferrer, 134 3/4 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 12-1-1.

“I think it was a pretty close fight,” said a disappointed Ferrer. “I thought I was winning the first few rounds, but I know I got out-worked in the last two rounds. At the end of the day, the judges saw something else and he got the win. If I won the last few rounds I would have won the fight.”

“I was coming off a long layoff and wasn’t as sharp as I should have been,” said the 25-year-old Ortiz. “I landed the sharper jabs and landed the harder shots. I think my ring experience and ring generalship was the difference in the fight.

“I want to come back a lot sharper and a lot smarter. At the end of the day, it was a learning experience. I got the win against a tough guy.”

In a battle of undefeated super featherweights, Misael Lopez won a eight-round unanimous decision over James Wilkins.

In round five, Wilkins was deducted a point for a low blow.

Lopez, 128 3/4 lbs of Denver, CO won by scores of 79-72, 77-74 an 76-75 and is now 9-0. Wilkins, 128 1/2 lbs of Staten Island, NY is 5-1.

Lopez landed 249-790 punches. Wilkins was 132-530.

“I think the difference was I was able to make him miss, land the cleaner shots and used my boxing to dictate the pace,” said the 22-year-old Lopez. “I’m looking to keep going and stay on the big stage. Hopefully people and promoters will notice that I’m the real deal.”

“I think I did enough to pull it off,” said Wilkins. “I could see a split decision, maybe, but I dropped him and that wins the fight. That was a 10-8 round. I want to go back to the gym, work hard and get right back. You haven’t seen the last of me.”

New York (September 21, 2018) – Undefeated lightweight Wesley Ferrer is looking to make a big statement when he makes his national television debut against fellow undefeated Steven Ortiz in a co-featured bout of ShoBox: The New Generation tonight live on SHOWTIME (9:45 p.m. ET/PT).

Ferrer, 26 years-old of Brooklyn, has a record of 12-0 with seven knockouts.

“Training camp was great, and I am ready for fight night,” said Ferrer.

In Ortiz, Ferrer only knows that he is taking on an undefeated fighter who has a record of 8-0 with three knockouts from Philadelphia.

“I really do not know much about him. I just listen to my dad/coach, and he will give me the fight plan that I will execute on Friday night.”

Ferrer is ready to become a big name in boxing, and he knows that the ShoBox platform is a perfect opportunity to take his career to the next level.

“I feel great, and I am excited for me to showcase my talent on national television. I am ready, as this win is a springboard for my career. It will show my promoter, DiBella Entertainment, that I am ready for the next level. The fans will see that I can brawl or that I can box. I have been ready for this for a long time, and I can’t wait for Friday night.”

Ferrer’s manager, Felipe Gomez of El Matador Management, is equally excited for his fighter to show the boxing world that he is a legitimate contender in the lightweight division.

“I am happy that Wesley will be able to be showcased on a great platform like ShoBox,” said Felipe Gomez of El Matador Management. “He has faced very good competition, and now he is ready for the next step in career. I am very confident that he will put on a great performance on Friday night.”

JUANMA LOPEZ
Thank you again for coming and I am happy to be on the big stage again, one that I have been used to being on. This is a pay per view event and that merits a lot of attention. With the help of my management team including Mr. Pepiama who has taken the spot of my promoter and has helped me very much and become almost a father figure to me. I thank New Champion Promotions for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to it. Obviously most important to me personally is to win this fight and potentially set up the next fight against Yuriorkis Gamboa, which has been a fight that has kind of eluded both of us but as long as I take care of business and he takes care of business there is no reason for that not to happen for the next fight. On the other hand he is talking about fighting Lomachenko. If he wins this fight and skips me and wants to keep running, let him run, but hopefully he does not run. This fight was done with the idea and the plan that we both get featured on a card and we fight and win and fight each other but now he’s talking a different language – fighting Lomachenko – so maybe he is having second thoughts. It’s a fight that the public wants but it is all up to him. Hopefully he sticks to the plan.

MIGUEL BELTRAN JR.
I am very happy to be here. This is my first time I Miami. I respect the community, I respect all of the Cubans here in Miami and I respect all the press here in Miami and I respect Gamboa but I came here to fight and I came here to win so let’s get to it. I will be 100% training for the fight. I came here to win and I will give everything in the ring to make that happen and that’s the way it’s going to be. I will be the one winning that night. I am very appreciative of everyone here and than you very much.

GAMBOA
I would like to thank everyone that is here supporting this event. This is something that has been a long time coming. It is something that I have promised to my fans in Miami, which is the city that has really embraced me when I first got here from Cuba. I would like to thank Jesse Rodriguez for believing in me and not only me but believing in Miami to make this a reality. There have been a lot of things that have happened in my career and my career is far from over. I am here to be the best, which is what I have always felt I am. With the right people around me I am looking forward to having a great fight on November 10th and not only a great fight, but a great event in and of itself.

The comment that JuanMa had made earlier that I may be running or I may be ducking – that is false. He knows he is contractually obligated to New Champions for two fights – the second fight would be, if we both win, a fight between me and him. The fact that my goal is to fight Lomachenko or someone else in the division does no mean that I am trying to duck him. By all means I know my obligation and I know his obligation. My obligations right now it to win on November 10. After winning November 10, I want JuanMa.

Very important to note is that the effort that New Champion Promotions is making in not only hosting the event but making the commitment to the city to bring this caliber of an event to Miami and South Florida. Both he and I and the company itself hope to continue to host thee type of events not only in the near future but long term as well.

With respect to my fight in and of itself I would like to welcome the city of Miami, not just my fans, to come and embrace this event on November 10 – it’s going to be a great event. In respect to the comments made by my opponent on November 10, Mr. Beltran, I understand the challenge that he poses but I don’t see him as too much of an obstacle towards the goals that I have set for myself – in the near future is JuanMa and then after JuanMa, going up against Lomachenko. Those are my objectives and I want to share this ride with Miami and that’s what I am doing coming into this new arrangement with New Champion Promotions and making it a must to do the PPV here in Miami because I know the people of Miami are going to support it.

(endquotes)

The pay per view show will include four bouts in all.

Integrated Sports Media will distribute “Redemption in Miami” in the USA on cable, satellite and digital pay-per-view via iN Demand, Vubiquity, DIRECTV and DISH; and live-streamed worldwide on the FITE.TV app and website www.fite.tv, each way for a suggested retail price of only $24.95.

Philadelphia, Penn. / Orange, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2018) – Elite prospect Michael Dutchover (10-0, 7 KOs) weighed in successfully at 136 lbs., while challenger Bergman Aguilar (14-3-1, 4 KOs) hit his mark at 135.7 lbs. during Thursday’s “New Blood” weigh in.

The pair battle in the 8-round main event from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif. TONIGHT, Sept. 21.

BoxNation announces the biggest ever week of live fights

FORMER World Super-Middleweight champion James DeGale and Olympic Super-Heavyweight Silver Medalist Joe Joyce head a boxing bonanza on BoxNation next week.

‘The Channel of Champions’ has pulled no punches screening FIVE lives shows inside FIVE days as part of our stacked schedule for subscribers.

DeGale and Joyce end the wonderful week of live action on Sunday September 30; when they box in Ontario, California on a card topped by an all-action fight between Victor Ortiz and John Molina Jr.

DeGale who recently relinquished his IBF 168lb World crown says his fight will be a warm-up ahead of a huge fight in December.

Unbeaten fellow Londoner Joyce who is being fast-tracked to the top makes his US debut against experienced Iago Kiladze who has won 26 of his 29 fights.

It’s another first for BoxNation. No channel has ever brought fans FIVE live events in such a short space of time.

The extravaganza starts at noon on Wednesday September 26 when our cameras are in Xiamen, China for the first leg of the World Series of Boxing final between Astana Arlans and Cuba Domadores.

Two days later, on Friday September 28 it’s the all important second leg when this year’s winner will be determined.

In last season’s final The Arlans defeated the Cubans in a tie break contest. Will the Domadores get revenge or are the Kazakh team about to become WSB four-time champions?

Hours later we head to Temecula, California when undefeated Lightweight prospect Devin Haney faces three-time World Title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos.

Also on the Shobox bill is a rematch of this year’s most controversial fight between Thomas Mattice and Armenian Zhora Hamazaryan.

American Mattice won their first encounter on points three months ago, but the decision caused outrage in the BoxNation studio and from fans all over the world.

On Saturday night, September 29 we’re on the American East Coast for the next instalment of ‘Broadway Boxing’ where viewers will see eight live fights from Brooklyn, New York.

Sunday is boxing day next week, and you will not want to miss one of Britain’s finest world title holders of recent times DeGale and Joyce who many consider a future world champion.

And the headline act between former WBC World Welterweight champion Ortiz and Molina Jr is a battle not to be missed. Both men only know one way to fight and that is to throw shots.

BoxNation Managing Director, Jim McMunn said: “This is what makes BoxNation unique. No other channel has ever delivered five live boxing events over so few days. It’s live boxing that is appreciated by the fans and gives exposure to Britons fighting abroad who would otherwise be ignored. Couple this with the fact that we will deliver live and exclusive possibly the best two boxers in the world in Crawford and Lomachenko before the end of the year, then no boxing enthusiast can afford to be without BoxNation.”

NEXT WEEK’S SCHEDULE

JON FERNANDEZ vs. O’SHAQUIE FOSTER FINAL WEIGHTS, QUOTES

SHAWNEE, Okla. (September 20, 2018) – Top 130-pound prospect Jon Fernandez and former decorated amateur O’Shaquie Foster made weight on Thursday for their 10-round matchup in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation tomorrow/Friday live on SHOWTIME at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT from Firelake Arena in Shawnee, Okla.

Fernandez (16-0, 14 KOs), a native of Spain and protégé of former unified champion Sergio Martinez, will face his toughest test to date in Foster (13-2, 8 KOs), a Houston resident who was one win away from representing the United States in the 2012 Olympics.

Friday’s quadrupleheader features eight prospects boasting a combined record of 81-2-1 and 56 KOs.

The telecast opens with James Wilkins (5-0, 5 KOs), who is featured on the SHOWTIME documentary CRADLE OF CHAMPIONS, squaring off against fellow-unbeaten Misael Lopez (8-0, 4 KOs). Staten Island’s Wilkins is a featured fighter in the documentary that chronicles the 2015 New York Golden Gloves, premiering at 8 p.m. ET/PT immediately preceding the ShoBox telecast.

In Friday’s co-feature, undefeated featherweight prospects Irvin Gonzalez Jr. (10-0, 9 KOs), of Worcester, Mass., and Carlos Ramos (9-0, 6 KOs), of Madrid, will collide in an eight-round bout. Also on the card is Brooklyn’s Wesley Ferrer (12-0-1, 7 KOs), who will face fellow-unbeaten Philadelphia prospect Steven Ortiz (8-0, 3 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout.

Super Featherweight 8-Round Bout

James Wilkins – 128 ½ lbs.

Misael Lopez – 128 ¾ lbs.

Referee: Mike England; Judges: Sarah Atwood (Okla.), David Sutherland (Okla.), Tim Tallchief (Okla.)

FINAL QUOTES:

JON FERNANDEZ:

“I think I’m ready for a title fight now. I think that we’ve been doing really good work and the time is coming. If I get the opportunity after this fight, I’ll take it. I would fight Tevin Farmer or Ryan Garcia. I’m ready for something bigger.

“Every fight is different. Some fights I need to be really busy and sometimes I need to bring the power. It all depends. I look at myself more as a volume puncher than a power puncher. I like to wear my opponents down round by round.

“I’ve been on SHOWTIME twice and I’ve knocked out both of my opponents. Tomorrow night I will make it three for three.

“I’ve seen a few of Foster’s fights. He’s a fighter that knows how to use his distance and move around a lot. He will be my toughest opponent to date but I’ve fought guys with a similar style before.

“Boxing is gaining popularity all the time in Spain and I hope that my success makes others in Spain want to start boxing.

“I think Foster is going to be faithful to his style and use his distance and move a lot. I’m going to have to attack him and close off the ring. I have to be really intelligent because Foster is a really good counter-puncher and he’s fast. I just have to go to work.”

O’SHAQUIE FOSTER:

“My focus has improved since I’ve started working with my trainer, Bobby (Benton). I’ve improved a lot and my consistency is there. I’ve sharpened up and gotten back to the old me. I had strayed from the way I like to fight and now I’m back to the real O’Shaquie.

“SHOWTIME hasn’t seen the best of me yet. I wasn’t focused my last few fights and I had some bad performances on ShoBox. I’ve gotten all of my demons and bad activities out and now I’m one hundred percent focused on my boxing. I know that once I’m focused, nobody can beat me.

“Fernandez is making a big mistake taking this fight. I’ve never had trouble fighting against tall guys. I just have to use a lot of feints and a lot of movement and I don’t see him troubling me.

“I feel like I have a good team in place. I’ve gotten older, I’ve matured, and I’m as focused as I have ever been. I’ve been in the gym consistently for the last year. After my last fight, I took a few days off and was right back in the gym. This is my fourth fight in less than a year and I’m coming off one of my best performances.

“I made some mistakes away from the ring. I had to pull myself out of it and I wasn’t going to allow my talent to go to waste. This is a big fight for me and I have to prove that I still have a great future in boxing.”

IRVIN GONZALEZ JR.:

“Coming out of the amateurs, I knew I was going to make my mark in due time. I didn’t know if it would be this quickly. This is the whole goal. This is my first time on TV and I want to show my talent.

“Ramos knows how to box, he knows how to go in and out and use his angles, but I do see a lot of things that I can capitalize on. He does hold his right hand down low, and he likes to come over the top with an overhand left hand. He likes to stay out there, and he can get caught when he stays out there. I’m going to show him in the ring what he needs to work on in his craft.

“I can box, but I can also sit down on my punches and fight inside. I like to pick out my punches. It’s not like I’m going in there for the kill – if the kill comes, the kill comes – but I’m picking out my punches. If it comes with a knockout, it comes with the knockout.

“This is the toughest guy I’ve been in with as a pro. We know he’s lefty, we know he’s a pretty hard hitter. That’s pretty much all we know.

“I switch without even realizing, so fighting a southpaw won’t be a problem. I’m just so comfortable with it that it comes as second nature.”

CARLOS RAMOS:

“I’ve sparred hundreds of rounds with Jon Fernandez. I’m a very different fighter than JonFer. He’s a more come-forward fighter who attacks and tries to cut off the ring. I’m more of a technical boxer that tries to use the jab a lot.

“My style will all depend on how the fight flows. We have a plan to fight Irvin Gonzalez and we think it will be very effective tomorrow night.

“This is a good fight for my career and the type of fight that motivates me. I’m very excited for this opportunity and excited to be here in the United States. I think this will open up many bigger opportunities for me.”

WESLEY FERRER:

“I’ve stayed busy in the gym since my last fight. I was in training camp with Robert Easter not too long ago. I had some ring rust in my last fight because of the layoff but that won’t be an issue this time.

“This is a big fight for my career. This is what’s going to get me to the next step in my career. I’m excited to show everybody who the real Wesley is.

“I can box, I can counter. It all depends on how I feel. If I put my mind on being a brawler, I can do that. If I put my mind to boxing, I can do that. It all depends on my opponent and what the fight plan is. We have a good fight plan for tomorrow night.

“Switching up my stance is something that I can do and something that I’ve been working on. Sometimes I do it without even thinking about it, and in my last fight I was more effective as a southpaw. It’s all about understanding when is the right time to do it.

“My preparation for this fight has been perfect. I have absolutely no issues and you guys will all see the best Wesley Ferrer.”

STEVEN ORTIZ:

“I feel good, I’m ready to go. I don’t know much about Ferrer. I know sometimes he switches to southpaw but we’re just going to adapt to whatever he brings to the table.

“I’ve sparred hundreds of rounds with Tevin Farmer. If I can hit him, I feel like I can hit anybody. That gives me the confidence to face a guy like Ferrer.

“I use my height to my advantage but I’m also learning to fight on the inside. I like to bang, but boxing comes naturally to me. Working with guys like Tevin makes these other fights easy.

“I’m going to be smart, stay patient, use my jab. But if an opening comes I’m going to take advantage of it and try to hurt him. As long as I stay focused and disciplined this will be easy work.

“This is my first time fighting on live TV, this is a great opportunity for me and an experience I’m looking forward to. I just have to take it round by round.

“It’s about being more focused. My mindset before was never, ‘I want to knock them out’. Now, that’s a priority for me. I want to hurt them.”

JAMES WILKINS:

“When I touch him, I promise you I’m going to knock him out. I’ve been under his skin for six weeks. Now that the fight isn’t in his hometown he’s scared to look me in the eyes.

“He’s definitely my toughest (opponent). He’s young, he’s undefeated. He’s been hyped up in Denver. But, if you ask me, I don’t think nothing of him. Denver is not Brooklyn.

“I’m bigger, I’m smarter, I’m faster. Everyone I fought hasn’t been stopped until I stopped them. I haven’t fought a 130-pounder yet and now that I am, this fight isn’t going past three rounds.

“I want to be in the top 10. I want to be a rising star. I want to be a world champ by the end of 2020. But I had to take a different route than other fighters. I have my goals and this is the next step. I’m kicking this door down.

“I’m different than a lot of young fighters. My boxing IQ after working with Roy (Jones) is through the roof. I had a good camp. I’m prepared and ready to live my dream and become a star.

“I’ve been working three times a day in the gym. I didn’t fight guys with losing records because I was hand-picking guys. I fought them because I wasn’t given an opportunity.”

MISAEL LOPEZ:

“At first Wilkins got under my skin a little bit on social media, but we blocked it out. He’s a hot head. I think within the first few rounds he’ll come out wild and he’ll be easy for me to counter. It’s going to work against him.

“He’s never been three rounds, but more importantly he’s never fought a guy with a winning record.

“I’ve seen guys who come out aggressive. I just need to catch him, slow him down and he’ll be out.

“No disrespect to him. He’s a great boxer, he had a great amateur career. But this is our opportunity to take the next step.

“I’ve gotten a lot smarter in each fight. I’ve learned to settle down and pick my shots. I can adapt to any style. I’ve had fights where I’ve had to brawl, I’ve had fights I had to box.

“We sparred with Shakur Stevenson and got some solid rounds with him for this fight.”

Victor Ortiz vs. John Molina Jr. Los Angeles Media Workout Quotes

LOS ANGELES (September 20, 2018) – Former welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz and hard-hitting John Molina Jr. showed off their skills at a media workout Thursday as they prepare to face off Sunday, September 30 in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes live from Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

The telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features 2016 U.S. Olympian Karlos Balderas, who was in attendance at Thursday’s workout and faces New Mexico’s Jose Salinas, along with his brother Jose Balderas, who competes on the non-televised portion of the card.

The stacked night of PBC action on FS1 and FOX Deportes will also see unbeaten featherweight contender Brandon Figueroa taking on rugged veteran Oscar Escandon in a 10-round bout, 2016 British Olympian Joe Joyce battling Iago Kiladze in an eight-round heavyweight attraction and rising unbeaten prospects Efe Ajagba and Joey Spencer in separate showdowns.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Ringstar Sports, are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.

Here is what the participants at the media event had to say Thursday from Fortune Gym in Los Angeles:

VICTOR ORTIZ

“John Molina Jr. is a warrior, and it’s going to be two warriors on fight night. This is another chance for me to do what I love to do and what I have the most passion in the world for.

“You have to keep that fire burning inside you to keep competing in this sport. You have to go in there 100 miles per hour. This is a sport and I’m going in there to destroy him, then we can go have lunch after.

“I have lots of respect for Molina, but this is still boxing. He’s in my way right now and I’m going to knock him out of the way.

“I have one big task ahead of me and that’s John Molina Jr. on September 30. I can’t focus on anyone else out there, as much as I may want to fight them. I have a tremendous challenge in front of me.

“I don’t feel that I have the size advantage. Molina is a big guy. I’m not too small or anything, but at the end of the day we’re going to have a good dance in that ring and there’s going to be no excuses.

“I’m working hard each day in camp to be ready for September 30. Whatever the coaches have been asking of me, I’ve been there and delivered.”

JOHN MOLINA JR.

“I know that Victor is going to be himself in there. We’re both veterans who have been been down this road before. He’s coming to win and that’s what excites me. I think everyone watching is going to get a treat on September 30.

“Victor is probably the physically bigger guy because he’s been at welterweight longer, but I think I carry the weight well. I’ve always been big for my weight classes so I think it will fit perfectly.

“Training is what I do. I’ve been down this road before so it’s really just built into my system to get in the gym and work hard. Everything has been going great. We’re on track with some hard work ahead to be ready for fight night.

“Victor deserves my undivided attention and he has it. Especially for this fight. He is a big strong guy who hits hard for 147-pounds. I never pick the easy guy when I move up in weight. My first fight at 140 was Lucas Matthysse and I expect fireworks for this fight as well.

“My ability to bounce back and deal with adversity in the ring is all about mindset. When I’m in that ring, I’m just 100 percent focused on doing what I have to do for my family. I’ve been blessed by boxing. I put it all on the line.

“I know I have to go through the fire every time I get into the ring. If I didn’t think that I’d be fooling myself. You can say what you want about Victor, but he’s always been in exciting fights and I’m going to have to deal with that style on September 30.”

KARLOS BALDERAS

“I envision myself going out there and breaking down my opponent little by little. I think we’ve kept the same kind of training going, but me and my brother are much more comfortable as pros now, so it’s gotten even more productive.

“I’m excited to keep working and getting my rounds in, while also having fun with this job I’m blessed to have. I’m not planning to let this fight go the distance and I’m going to take the opportunity to end it when I see it.

“Me and my brother both believe that the fight is really won in the gym. By the time you get up into the ring, it’s just sparring really. That helps me stay relaxed and focused on the work I’m there to do and not worried about anything going on around me.

JOSE BALDERAS

“I feel great going into this fight. I’ve learned a lot from each time I’ve gotten into the ring and I’m going to take that into this next fight to put on my best performance.

“My goal is always to go out there and be great. I’m ready to break my opponent down and do what I have to do.

“It’s exciting to be on the same card as my brother again. We definitely are still invested in each other’s fights. Hopefully we can each take care of business and be able to be there cheering each other on.”

RICHARD SCHAEFER, Chairman & CEO of Ringstar Sports

“It’s refreshing to see the level of respect from Ortiz and Molina. This is an extremely evenly matched fight with no clear favorite. These are fighters who can create a memorable night. It’s the perfect example of how styles make fights.

“Both of these men know how to entertain and are must-see television every time they step into the ring. Now they’re fighting each other and it’s got war written all over it. The fans watching on Sunday night and here in Ontario are in for a treat.

“I’m excited to see the continued development of Karlos Balderas on September 30. He is quickly making an impression throughout the sport and I believe he’s going to prove that he can live up to the promise in the not too distant future. Sunday will be another step toward what he can really accomplish.”

Kazakh Firepower: Alimkhanuly and Ualikhanov to Make Top Rank Debuts September 28 in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2018) — A pair of former amateur stars from Kazakhstan, Janibek Alimkhanuly and Askhat Ualikhanov, will make their Top Rank debuts in separate bouts on Friday, Sept. 28 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. Alimkhanuly will face Carlos Galvan in a super middleweight contest, while Ualikhanov will take on Angel Hernandez in a super lightweight showdown on the undercard of IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcátegui’s 10-round non-title bout against Ezequiel Maderna and Jerwin Ancajas’ IBF junior bantamweight title defense versus Alejandro Santiago (ESPN+, 10:30 p.m. ET).

Alimkhanuly-Galvan, Ualikhanov-Hernandez, and other undercard bouts will stream live at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, Joven Sports and MP Promotions, tickets for this all-action card are on sale now. Priced at $105, $78.75, $52.50, and $26.25, including facility fees, tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Oracle Arena box office. The Oracle Arena box office is open Monday-Friday from 12-5 p.m.

Alimkhanuly and Ualikhanov are managed by Egis Klimas, the Boxing Writers Association of America’s two-time reigning Manager of the Year.

“Janibek and Askhat are sensational talents who will be contending for world titles sooner rather than later,” Klimas said. “I am happy that American fight fans will be able to see them fight on ESPN+.”

Alimkhanuly (2-0, 1 KO), a southpaw who is trained by former world champion Buddy McGirt, represented Kazakhstan at the 2016 Olympics and advanced to the quarterfinal round. He fought roughly 300 times as an amateur, winning gold medals at the 2013 AIBA World Championships and 2013 Asian Championships. He made his pro debut on Oct. 29, 2016 with a first-round TKO against Milton Nunez. Alimkhanuly last fought in September of last year with a six-round unanimous decision against Gilberto Pereira. He promises to be more active under the Top Rank banner, and if all goes well against Galvan, he will fight at least one more time in 2018. The plan is for Alimkhanuly to eventually challenge for a world title at middleweight.

Ualikhanov (3-1, 2 KOs) suffered the only blemish on his record in his pro debut. He was controversially disqualified in the third round against Daniel Bastien for landing a punch on the break. In his last bout, on July 14 in Hollywood, Calif., he won a four-round unanimous decision against Darel Harris.

YURIORKIS GAMBOA vs MIGUEL BELTRAN JR. JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ vs CRISTIAN MINO LIVE FROM MARLINS PARK, MIAMI, FL LIVE ON PAY PER VIEW

MIAMI, FL, September 20, 2018 — In the “REDEMPTION IN MIAMI” main event, former four-time world champion in three weight divisions and Olympic Gold Medalist YURIORKIS “El Ciclon De Guantánamo” GAMBOA will battle two-time world title challenger MIGUEL “Barreterito” BELTRAN, JR. in a ten round lightweight bout. In the co-feature, former three-time world champion in two weight classes JUAN “JuanMa” LOPEZ will clash with CRISTIAN RUBEN “Piedrita” MINO, also in a ten-round lightweight bout. “Redemption in Miami” will take place Saturday, November 10 at Marlins Park on the West Plaza in Miami, Florida and will be available live on pay per view, distributed by Integrated Sports Media, beginning at 9 pm ET / 6pm PT at a retail price of $24.95

“Redemption in Miami” is promoted by New Champions Promotions in association with Marlins Park. Ticket prices start at $60 and will go on sale Wednesday, September 26 at 10:00 am ET and be available at the Marlins Park ticket office and on line at www.marlins.com/boxing. Fight night doors will open at 6:00 pm and first bout will begin at 7:00 pm.

“I’ve been dreaming all of my life about bringing boxing to my people in Miami,” said Gamboa. “JuanMa and I went to a Marlins game last year and we fell in love with the atmosphere and talked about fighting here. Now it is reality.”

Gamboa (28-2, 17 KOs), from Guantanamo, Cuba now living in Miami, Fla., won Gold as a Cuban in the 2004 Olympic games and is a former featherweight world champion; former super featherweight world champion; former lightweight world champion and former unified world champion. Gamboa defected and made his professional debut in 2007, and two years and fourteen fights later, on April 17, 2009, became world champion, winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim featherweight title. After three successful defenses, Gamboa beat International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight champion Orlando Salido to become Unified Champion. Three fights later Gamboa moved up in weight and won the interim WBA super featherweight title and immediately moved up another weight class and won the interim WBA lightweight title, setting up a unification mega-fight against fellow undefeated Terrence Crawford. Gamboa rocked Crawford early in the fight in what has been considered Crawford’s toughest fight to date but eventually succumbed. Gamboa took his last bout on three weeks notice against former WBA Super Featherweight Champion Jason Sosa on November 25 at Madison Square Garden. Gamboa won a majority decision and told Sosa after the fight “I’m sorry i didn’t give you a better match, I only had 3 weeks to prepare. I needed 2 or 3 more weeks to lose the weight correctly. Of course the decision was good though.”

Miguel Beltran, Jr. (32-6, 21 KOs) hails from Los Mochis, Mexico, a boxing hotbed that has produced no less than five world champions. Miguel won twenty-six of his first twenty-seven fights leading to his first world title fight, on December 10, 2011, in his hometown Los Mochis, against International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Featherweight Champion Juan Carlos Selgado. In the second round following an accidental head butt, the fight was stopped at the recommendation of the ringside doctor, was ruled a No Contest and Selgado retained the title. Beltran Jr. won his next fight, then was rewarded with another world title challenge, this time for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super featherweight title against Roman Martinez at the Thomas & Mack Center on the undercard of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez. It was a classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico battle, they fought on the inside and fought on the outside and at the end, Martinez won the title by split decision. Since then Miguel has stopped four of his last nine opponents.

Puerto Rico’s “JuanMa” Lopez (35-6, 32KOs) from Caguas Puerto Rico, was his country’s Olympic representative in 2004. He made his professional debut in 2005 and in his twenty-second bout won the WBO super bantamweight title against Ponce De Leon by TKO on June 7, 2007 and made five successful defenses. He then moved up to featherweight and won the WBO featherweight title on January 23, 2010 against Steve Levueno. He successfully defended that belt twice. JuanMa was also named the Puerto Rican Fighter of the Year in both 2008 and ’09.

Cristian “Piedrita” Mino (19-2, 12 KOs) from Tigre, Buenos Aires, Argentina made his professional debut on December 19, 2014 and fought an incredible number of bouts, ten in his first calendar year, sinning all but one by knockout. He followed that up with nine more bouts in his second year – winning all by knockout.

Charr tests positive for banned substance; Oquendo fight off

The WBA Heavyweight title bout between Manuel Charr and Fres Oquendo is off after Charr tested positve for a banned substance, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“This letter is to advise you that Mr. Manual Charr’s ‘A’ sample urine specimen number 4256987 collected on August 31, 2018 in Cologne, Germany through his participation in the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) program has been analyzed for anabolic agents, diuretics, beta-2 agonists, stimulants, IRMS, EPO, and drugs of abuse. The results of the analysis are as follows: Adverse. Urine specimen number 4256987: epitrenbolone and drostanolone metabolites detected,” VADA said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN.

“The message came that I tested positive. My manager, Christian Hunter, and my promoter, Bernd Trendelburg, have cancelled the fight without informing me before or contacting me. I am very disappointed in this approach,” Charr said in a statement. “I can’t explain the result, but I will do anything to solve it. I am now waiting for the result of the ‘B’ sample and I have once again undergone an independent and voluntary doping test. The results are expected to be published on Saturday.

“I have always been clean in all the fighting, and I can therefore definitely not explain how this result. I’m in shock myself, dear fans, especially as I’m in the final (stages) of the fight preparation. The defense of the championship has been my life for months. I am preparing for this fight with great discipline. During my (training) I take various supplements. It will be examined whether the food supplements may have influenced the doping sample.”

“The WBA should do the right thing and crown me champion,” Oquendo said in a statement provided to ESPN. “I shouldn’t be punished for something I’m doing right, which is not cheating.”

“We have read reports that Charr’s promoter has canceled the fight following Charr’s positive doping test. Except for the VADA letter, we have not heard anything official,” Square Ring CEO John Wirt, who co-promotes Oquendo with Bobby Hitz, told ESPN. “Obviously, if the fight is canceled it will be another injustice in a long line of huge disappointments in Fres’ path to fight for the WBA (‘regular’) heavyweight title.”
