TOP SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT FRANCHON CREWS-DEZURN RETURNS ON FRIDAY, JUNE 22, IN DETROIT, ON THE UNDERCARD OF CLARESSA SHIELDS VS. HANNA GABRIELS IBF & WBA WOMEN’S MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

With her long-time rival, Claressa Shields, moving down to middleweight, Baltimore’s Franchon “The Heavy-Hitting Diva” Crews-Dezurn will finally be getting her own deserved chance to shine.

One of the best female fighters in the world not currently holding a world title, Crews-Dezurn (3-1, 1 KO) will return to the ring for a six-round fight on the non-televised undercard of the blockbuster “It’s Our Time to Shine” event featuring two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and current Unified Women’s Super Middleweight Champion Shields attempting to become a two-division world champion against unified 154-pound champion Hanna Gabriels for the vacant IBF and WBA Women’s Middleweight World Championships.

The main event will be televised live on SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION (10 p.m. ET/PT) and will also feature highlights of Unified Women’s Middleweight Champion Christina Hammer as she defends her WBC & WBO Titles in her U.S. debut against former world champion Tori Nelson.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Salita Promotions, are available at Ticketmaster.com or at the Masonic Temple Box Office at (313) 832-7100. VIP tickets are priced at $300, ringside tickets at $125, and remaining tickets at $75, $50 and $35.

Not long ago, Crews-Dezurn, an eight-time national amateur champion and two-time medalist at the World Amateur Championships, looked to be the face of American women’s boxing before Shields, a younger boxing prodigy, stole much of her thunder and her spot on the inaugural women’s Olympic boxing team.

The pair faced each other again in their simultaneous pro debuts in late 2016, with Shields winning a decision.

Since then, Crews has signed with Shields’ promoter, Dmitriy Salita of Salita Promotions, and won three straight fights in impressive fashion.

“Training is going good,” said Crews-Dezurn. “I’ve been helping my husband Glenn get ready for his next fight, so I’m already in great shape. I’m very happy to be getting back in the ring.”

An entrepreneur, singer, and business student in addition to boxing, the charismatic Crews-Dezurn is as marketable as any fighter could be, but has been forced to live in the sizable shadow cast by the success of Shields.

However, now that Shields is off chasing a showdown with German counterpart Christina Hammer at middleweight, the super middleweight division has an opening for a new world champion.

“I’d like to be fighting for a title within the next year,” continued Crews-Dezurn. “I know in my heart I’m right there with the best super middleweights in the world. I just need to keep working hard and let things happen like they should.”

Promoter Salita, a champion of women’s boxing and one of the main forces behind its resurgence, says Crews-Dezurn’s day is coming soon.

“Franchon will be world champion in the not-too-distant future,” he said. “She has all the skills and she works very hard to reach her goals. She deserves all the success she will have. I’m happy to be promoting her career. She’s a very special fighter and person.”

Crews-Dezurn’s opponent is currently TBA. “It’s Our Time to Shine” is presented by Salita Promotions.

The show is promoted by King’s Promotions.

Fox (16-0, 4 KOs) of Forrestvile, Maryland continues his upward climb when he takes on that knockout artist from Puerto Rico.

JACK DANIEL: “I DREAMT OF BEING ON THE PITCH AT ELLAND ROAD BUT MY FOOTY SKILLS WERE NEVER GONNA GET ME THERE!”

Shots from Jack Daniel’s have been responsible for sore heads the world over since 1875 and Leeds featherweight Jack Daniel has designs on inflicting migraines of his own, courtesy of his fizzing fists.

The 23 year old southpaw – unbeaten in two since debuting last October – is set to realise a life time’s dream of performing on the hallowed Elland Road turf graced by his Leeds United hero’s on Saturday week.

‘I like my footy and I try to get over to Leeds (United) whenever I get a chance. I dreamt of being on the pitch at Elland Road but my footy skills were never going to get me there!’ quips the former five-time national junior champion and England amateur international who features in a four rounder on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight title challenge to Lee Selby.

‘This is the biggest night ever in Leeds for boxing so I’m really excited. I’ve really put the training in so there’s nothing to be nervous about. I’m just privileged to be a part of it.

‘We had no big names for ages but, right now, Leeds boxing is really on the up with Josh and Nicola (Adams, the dual Olympic champion who also features), plus Jack Bateson coming through.’

The Steve Wood-managed Yorkie youngster has been sharpening his tools ahead of his big night by operating as a spar hand to former British, Commonwealth and European 126lb boss Warrington and he predicts a triumphant night all round for the city.

‘I fancy Josh to win and not just because he’s a Leeds lad. Selby’s world class but I just believe it’s Josh’s time. He’s in his prime. Warrington on points, for me,’ predicts Daniel.

‘We spar all the time and he’s on a different level to me. It definitely benefits me more than it benefits Josh. But we’re same weight so perhaps one day I might be fighting him, perhaps here at Elland Road. That’s always at the back of the mind.’

Daniel’s journey to fighting at a football stadium began back in his primary school years.

‘I always had the desire to do it. When I was younger I was very ill disciplined but the boxing soon sorted that out,’ he explains.

‘My dad Paul boxed for England and my Uncle Michael won national schoolboy titles, I believe. Dad started me out on the pads in the garden before taking me to the gym. I had my first bout at 12.’

During an impressive 70 bout amateur innings (just eight losses), darting Daniel nabbed a junior ABA title and a record four national CYP crowns. He twice advanced to the Senior ABA final whilst still in his teens – edged out by Reece Bellotti (57kg, 2013) and Pat McCormack (60kg, 2014) – and scalped a number of outstanding future pro prospects such as Josh Kelly, Lyon Woodstock and Joe Maphosa (twice).

While this Jack Daniel might lack the kayo kick of the Tennessee liquor, he’s blessed with the southpaw slicks and savvy to leave opponent’s sore with frustration.

‘I’m a very tall southpaw, almost 5ft 10 (in), so it’s in my best interests to counter off the back foot,’says Jack the Jab whose high IQ extends beyond the ropes (11GSCEs, 4 ‘A’ levels and a 2:1 Honours degree in Finance and Accountancy from Leeds Beckett University!).

‘I like to capitalise on my amateur schooling but I’m definitely not weak for my size. I can have a fight if needed.

‘I couldn’t have asked for my pro career to have gone much better. My debut at the First Direct Arena was an absolute dream (a classy fourth round stoppage of Hungary’s Roland Petrovics) and, second start, I had a good learning fight with a very tough kid (Islington’s Jules Phillips, shut out over four). I’m really enjoying it.’

Having personally shifted over 200 tickets, joltin’ Jack can’t wait to be unleashed upon the Yorkshire faithful on May 19th.

‘I’ll not be chasing a knock out, just looking to box to the best of my ability,’ concludes Daniel, as balanced beyond the ropes as he is between.

‘Fans can look forward to the array of skills that I’ll bring to the table. I can do a bit of everything and I’m always entertaining to watch. My Latvian opponent (southpaw Zigurds Krauklis) brings exactly the same record as me so I’m assuming he’ll come and give it a go.

‘I don’t want to jump the gun but I believe I’ve the attributes to get to a British title at least, and possibly surpass that.’

Main event on a huge evening of boxing in Leeds sees IBF Featherweight World Champion Lee Selby defend his belt against bitter rival Josh Warrington; double Olympic Champion Nicola Adams OBE fights for the fourth time as a professional as she continues to work towards a World Title shot and undefeated Super-Welterweight rivals Darren Tetleyand Mason Cartwright clash for the Vacant WBO European title;

Chorley Super-Lightweight star Jack Catterall defends his WBO Intercontinental title; highly-ranked Hackney Super-Lightweight Ohara Davies takes on Frenchman Christopher Sebire on his highly-anticipated return; undefeated Leicester Super-Featherweight talent Lyon Woodstock; hard-hitting Oldham Middleweight Mark Heffron; Doncaster Featherweight Reece Mould; popular Leeds Bantamweight Jack Bateson and Olympic Silver Medallist Fred Evans complete an action-packed card.

General admission tickets for Selby v Warrington are available from just £40 per person.

Tickets are available to purchase online via the club’s official website www.leedsunited.com and via the Leeds United Ticket Office on 0371 334 1992

‘BLUE COLLAR’ DEZURN NOT FAZED BY PRE-FIGHT HYPE, READY TO GO TO WORK AGAINST JOSH GREER ON SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION ON FRIDAY, MAY 11

Maryland native Glenn Dezurn says it really doesn’t matter what his normally talkative opponent, Chicago’s Josh “Don’t Blink” Greer (16-1-1, 8 KOs) says or does before they meet in their 10-round super-bantamweight showdown Friday, May 11 live on SHOWTIME.

When you’re where he’s from and seen what he’s seen, inside the ring and out, an opponent who likes to talk doesn’t faze you. Not at all.

The pair will meet in the co-featured bout of a ShoBox: The New Generation quadrupleheader (10 p.m. ET/PT) from 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions, Hard Hitting Promotions & Devin Haney Promotions, are priced at $125 for VIP, $70 for ringside and $50 for general admission and are available at the 2300 Arena Box office or online at www.HardHittingPromotions.com.

Dezurn (9-1-1, 6 KOs), who had 94 amateur fights before turning professional five years ago, says opponent Greer, known for pre-fight hype including a pillow emblazoned with “Night Night,” is only hurting himself with the trash talk.

“The pressure isn’t on me,” he explained. “Where I come from, if you talk it, make sure you can walk it. The pressure is on him to back up whatever he says. It doesn’t bother me. I’m more of a doer than a talker. I only speak when I need to.”

Describing himself as a “blue-collar” fighter, the humble Dezurn won’t make a pre-fight prediction heading into battle, but will only say that he and trainer Barry Hunter are treating this fight no differently.

“Nothing is written in stone in boxing and there is no guarantee of winning against any fighter. You put in the work and believe in yourself. Fights are won in the gym with hard work. I will win because of my personality and my work ethic. I come to do my job and put my life on the line to entertain. My game plan in every fight is always the same: I just make adjustments in the ring as the fight goes on and react to whatever he is doing. I have a high ring IQ and I can adjust to anything.”

The 30-year-old says he’s set one goal in boxing and is enjoying his journey to reach it.

“I want to win a world championship. I set that goal for myself and once I achieve that, I can go on to my other goals in other areas of life. I’m earning my way to the championship the hard way against good fighters. That’s what I want. I’m living my dreams right now. And I will get there one day.”

“You will not meet a more humble, more down-to-earth fighter than Glenn Dezurn,” said his promoter, Greg Cohen. “He and his wife, Franchon, are very nice people who work hard to get they are. Glenn isn’t about flash. He’s about doing everything you have to do to be successful and he will get wherever he wants to be in life because of that.”

In the 10-round main event on SHOWTIME, Louisiana’s Mason Menard (33-2, 24 KOs) takes on undefeated Devin “The Dream” Haney (18-0, 12 KOs) of Las Vegas for the USBA Lightweight Championship. In other televised action, light heavyweight Alvin Varmall Jr. (15-0-1, 12 KOs) takes on Charles Foster (15-0, 8 KOs) over eight rounds; and in the opening bout, super bantamweight Arnold Khegai (11-0-1, 8 KOs) will face Adam Lopez (16-2-2, 8 KOs) in an eight-round bout.

Carlos Adames: ‘Caballo Bronco’ is Ready For ESPN Spotlight

NEW YORK CITY (May 7, 2018) – Carlos ‘Caballo Bronco’ Adames no longer wants to be the welterweight division’s best-kept secret. The undefeated 24-year-old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is seeking to make a statement on one of the biggest stages imaginable.

Adames (13-0, 11 KOs) will face Alejandro Barrera in a 10-round bout as the ESPN-televised co-feature to Jorge Linares’ WBA and Ring Magazine lightweight title defense against Vasiliy Lomachenko on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Adames, who will be making his debut under the Top Rank banner, has not fought in the United States since his fourth pro bout back in 2015.

“I feel like I carry the responsibility of becoming the superstar that my country is waiting for,” Adames said. “I have the talent, dedication and confidence to become a superstar that represents the Dominican Republic. I’m going to give it all for my country.”

Adames, a go-for-broke puncher, turned pro in 2015 following a storied amateur career that saw him win gold medals at the Pan American Youth Championships and the Dominican Republic Youth National Championships, among other tournaments. Last July, he picked up the most impressive win of his pro career, shutting out former IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina over 11 rounds. Adames gained invaluable experience when he sparred with pound-for-pound elite Terence Crawford roughly two years ago.

“I sparred some good rounds with Crawford, and I did very well against one of the best fighters in the world,” Adames said. “That gave me a lot of confidence, and it showed me that I could go very far as a fighter.”

Standing in his way is Barrera (27-4, 17 KOs), a veteran from Monterrey, Mexico, whose only stoppage defeat came to current IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. in 2015.

“I’m going to leave it all in the ring and put on a great show for the fans that will be present at Madison Square Garden and for the millions that will be watching live on ESPN,” Adames said. “I want to tell everyone to get their snacks and drinks ready because I am going for the knockout. Watch out. ‘Caballo Bronco’ is coming.’”

Linares vs. Lomachenko and Adames vs. Barrera will be televised live and exclusively at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, and undercard bouts will stream live on ESPN+, available through the ESPN App, beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Golden Boy Promotions, Teiken Promotions, and Madison Square Garden, tickets for the Linares vs. Lomachenko world championship card are ON SALE NOW. Priced at $506, $406, $306, $206, $106, and $56, including facility fees, tickets can be purchased at the Madison Square Garden Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster charge by phone (866-858-0008), and online at MSG.com.

History being made May 19th 1st world title fight in Kansas history 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Nico Hernandez / Fighting for IBA World title in his 5th professional fight

EDMONTON, Canada (May 7, 2018) – History will be made May 19th in several categories, when International Boxing Association (IBA) Americas flyweight champion Nico Hernandez (4-0, 3 KOs) faces Szilveszter “The Silent Assassin” Kanalas (14-7, 9 KOs) for the vacant IBA World Flyweight Championship, headlining SUPERBOX LIVE: High Stakes at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas.

Hernandez vs. Kanalas will launch Super Channel’s new live boxing series, SUPERBOX LIVE, in association with KO Night Boxing LLC, airing live exclusively in Canada on Super Channel. Integrated Sports Media will distribute “SUPERBOX LIVE: High Stakes” in the United States on cable, satellite and digital pay-per-view via iN Demand, Vubiquity, DIRECTV, DISH and live-streamed worldwide on FITE.TV app and website (excluding Canada) for a suggested retail price of only $19.95.

The winner of the 12-round main event — the first world championship boxing match ever held in the state of Kansas — between Wichita-native Hernandez, 21, and his 19-year-old Hungarian opponent, Kanalas, will become the youngest ever IBA World champion. If Hernandez emerges victoriously, he will also set a record for fewest professional fights needed to win an IBA World title (5).

“I think that says how skilled a fighter I am and that I’m ready to compete with the best in the world,” Hernandez responded to being asked what it says about him fighting for a world title in only his fifth pro fight. “But I look at every fight the same and I never underestimate my opponent. I’ve been training just as hard for this fight as for any of my other fights. The only difference this fight is that I’m training to go more rounds.

“I’ve been making history since I was a kid. I’ve always been on top and the one to beat, so I feel like this is another step I’m taking forward in my career. I also hope to be a role model, not only for kids, but also people older than me, and to bring more events and excitement to my city. I love fighting anywhere in Wichita because of the support I get from my hometown fans. This fight (at Kansas Star Arena where he made his pro debut) will definitely bring back some good memories.”

Two years ago, Kanalas became one of the youngest (17) world champions in pro boxing history, when he defeated fellow Hungarian boxer, Jozsef Ajtai, for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Super Flyweight World Championship.

“I’m not really worried about my opponent,” Hernandez added. “I just focus on what I need to do because, if I’m on my game and trained hard, nobody can be me except me! I’ll be prepared to anything and one of my best assets in the ring is adapting. I’ll see how I’m feeling after the first round. I’m not going into the ring looking for a knockout, but I don’t plan on this fight going 12 rounds.”
Hernandez can join other US Olympians who were IBA World champions such as Hall-of-Famers Oscar de la Hoya and George Foreman, along with stars such as Roy Jones, Jr. and Antonio Tarver.

In the co-featured event, Russian heavyweight prospect Andrey Afonin (5-0, 2 KOs) faces veteran Cuban fighter Pedro “El Reguilete” Rodriguez (23-4, 19 KOs) in a eight-round bout. Afonin was a 2011 Russian Junior Championships gold medalist, while Rodriguez is a former World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedalatin cruiserweight champion.

Another heavyweight also fighting on the televised segment of the show is undefeated Ukrainian heavyweight prospect Oleksandr Teslenko (12-0, 10 KOs), fighting out of Toronto, against to soon be determined.

Undefeated Washington featherweight Victor Morales, Jr. (8-0, 4 KOs) steps up in class to face David Berna (15-3, 14 KOs), of Hungary, in an intriguing eight-round match up.

Also fighting on the under, all in four-round bouts, are popular Wichita junior welterweight Jeff Sturm (2-0, 1 KO) vs. Nigeria-native Archie Weah (2-10), Kansas City, KS cruiserweight Chris Harris (2-2-2, 2 KOs) vs. Leroy Jones (2-3, 2 KOs), of Saint Louis (MO), Topeka-, KS welterweight Brian Clements (0-1-1) vs. Nebraska’s Luis Marquez (0-2), and undefeated Texas junior middleweight Joe Alday, Jr. (7-0, 7 KOs).

To watch “SUPERBOX LIVE: High Stakes” live in Canada, showcasing undefeated Canadian heavyweight Teslenko, in addition to more exciting boxing to come in 2018, fight fans can contact their local cable provider to subscribe to Super Channel and all that it offers, including premium series, movies and much more, for as low as $9.95 per month.

Unbeaten Delossantos faces toughest test Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 7th, 2018) — As a teenager, Ricky Delossantos and his friends used to ride around the city with a few pairs of boxing gloves in the trunk, not because Delossantos was a budding amateur star, but because every so often they’d find themselves in the middle of a heated debate that needed to be settled the old-fashioned way.

“We’d be in the car arguing and I’d say, ‘We’ve got the gloves in the trunk!’ so we’d go outside, stop in a parking lot and throw hands,” Delossantos said.

“Anybody that knows me knows I’ve been fighting since I was little.”

While it should come as no surprise that the 28-year-old Pawtucket, R.I., native is one of New England’s rising prospects in the featherweight division, boasting a perfect 4-0 record following his first career knockout in February, Delossantos’ promising pro career almost never got off the ground.

Delossantos (4-0, 1 KO) started late by most standards, debuting as an amateur in his mid 20s and fighting only 13 times due to a reoccurring thumb injury before turning pro in April of 2017 at the age of 27.

Though time isn’t on his side, Delossantos is making up for his lack of amateur experience with a fast start in the pros. On Friday, May 11th, 2018, he returns to Twin River Casino for the fifth time in 11 months when he faces Maryland’s James Early (3-2) in a four-round featherweight bout on the undercard of CES Boxing’s second show of the year.

“I just want to keep pushing and see where this takes me,” Delossantos said.

Tickets are priced at $47.00, $102.00, $127.00 (VIP) and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

The event begins with preliminary bouts at 7 p.m. ET with the main card streaming on Facebook via FIGHTNIGHT LIVE beginning at 8.

A two-sport athlete at Tolman High School who exceled in baseball and basketball, Delossantos never shied away from the occasional fist fight, but was otherwise a solid student. He went on to New England Tech, where he earned an associate degree as an electrician. He’s always had career options, as he puts it, but soon found himself enamored with the sport of boxing through a chance encounter with fellow fighter Vladine Biosse of Providence.

Delossantos was working at a mechanic’s shop where Biosse used to frequent to get work done on his car. He attended several of Biosse’s fights at Twin River and became intrigued with the idea of trying it out for himself, inspired in part by Biosse’s tremendous work ethic.

“Once I saw him, I thought, ‘I could do this,'” Delossantos recalled. “My friends said, ‘Yeah, right.'”

But Delossantos wasn’t joking. Aside from his impromptu parking-lot brawls with friends, he had also taken karate as a youth and briefly trained at a local gym before school and other commitments forced him to step aside.

Now in his mid-20s, he knew if he was going to pursue a pro career he would have to make a major push immediately, so he linked up with Biosse’s then trainer, Orlondo Valles. The two have been inseparable ever since, and Delossantos credits Valles as the one who made him genuinely believe he had a chance to succeed in boxing.

“He’s been in my corner from Day 1,” Delossantos said of Valles. “He’s more than just my trainer. He’s like family. He’s not in it for the money. When we decided to take that step forward, he just wanted me to be ready. He told me, ‘If we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it the right way.’

“It’s funny because before I turned pro he was thinking of stepping away from boxing. It was time-consuming and he had gotten frustrated with the sport. Once I told him I wanted to go pro, he said, ‘Let’s do it.'”

Delossantos’ short-lived amateur career included a regional Golden Gloves championship in which he fought the entire tournament with a broken thumb, the same nagging injury that forced him to make the difficult decision to turn pro with a limited background.

“I felt I was as ready as I could be,” Delossantos said. “And I wasn’t getting any younger.”

Delossantos debuted last April with a hard-fought win over Worcester’s Philip Davis, who was also fighting professionally for the first time, and hasn’t stopped since. In his most recent fight, he looked as sharp as ever, stopping New Bedford’s Efren Nunez at the 2:23 mark of the third round, capping a dominant performance from start to finish.

“I trained hard for that fight, had a game plan, and I stuck with it,” Delossantos said. “Everything really came together.”

With each fight, Delossantos a looks a little more seasoned, a bit more refined from his previous bout, while his workload in training camp continues to increase. He runs every day, does his strength and conditioning three times a week and spars between eight and 10 rounds in preparation for each fight. Likewise, he’s been able to train full-time thanks to assistance from his sponsors, among them American Muscle Corps. This is longer a hobby. It’s now his way of life.

“I’m learning as I go along,” he said. “Every fight has been a learning process, but I’m getting more and more confident in my craft.”

His opponent next Friday is also coming off his best win to date, a majority decision victory over previously-unbeaten Florida native Joshua Draughter last month in Sarasota.

“He looks like a slick boxer,” Delossantos said of Early. “He moves his body well, but nothing special. I know he’s going to be ready. So am I.”

If he wasn’t boxing, Delossantos would probably be selling cars at his cousin’s dealership, working for his father’s taxi service or perhaps putting his degree to use as an electrician. Boxing isn’t his only avenue to success, but it’s the preferred path for a promising, undefeated prospect looking to join the conversation as one of the region’s elite talents in 2018.

“I definitely have options, but I love this sport,” Delossantos said. “I’m trying to take it serious and see where it takes me.”

Also on the May 11th card, Rhode Island’s Rich Gingras (15-5-1, 9 KOs) fights for the first time since 2015 when he battles Atlantic City’s Antowyan Aikens (12-4-1, 1 KO) in a six-round super middleweight bout. In addition, the May 11th extravaganza features a rematch between female welterweights Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (18-4-3, 1 KO) of Marshfield, Mass., and Ontario’s Natasha Spence (8-3-2, 6 KOs), scheduled for six rounds. The two fought to a draw in December.

Undefeated super lightweight Anthony Marsella Jr. (8-0, 4 KOs) of Providence returns in his toughest to date, a six-round showdown against Arlington, Wash., native Ricardo Maldonado (8-7-1, 1 KO), and Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano (14-1, 12 KOs) puts his 12-fight win streak on the line in a six-round bout against Bernardo Marquez (8-3-1, 5 KOs) of Riverside, Calif.

Also on the main card, unbeaten Worcester, Mass., native Jamaine Ortiz (8-0, 4 KOs) faces the dangerous Tyrone Luckey (9-8-3, 7 KOs) of Neptune, N.J., in a six-round lightweight bout and regional rivals Marqus Bates (3-2, 2 KOs) of Taunton, Mass., and Mohamad Allam (3-2, 1 KO) of Holyoke, Mass., battle one another in a six-round bout.

Johnston, R.I. super lightweight Nicky DeQuattro (3-0, 1 KO) returns to Twin River to face Andy Aiello (0-1) of Bridgewater, Mass., in a four-round bout while cruiserweights Jake Paradise (0-1) of Worcester and Leandro Silva (0-1) of Sao Paolo, Brazil each search for their first career win when they face one another in a four-round preliminary bout. Derrick Whitley (3-0) of Springfield, Mass., makes his Rhode Island debut in a separate four-round welterweight bout.

Mikey Garcia taking Promotional deal with Zuffa Boxing (UFC)

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, lightweight champion Mike Garcia is talking to Dana White of the UFC to become a part of a potential Zuffa Boxing Promotion.

“A month ago maybe, before Mikey’s last fight, [White] saw Mikey train a full workout,” Mikey’s trainer/brother Robert Garcia said. “When he left the gym, he said, ‘I want to invite you guys to [Las] Vegas.’ I never went to Vegas, but I think Mikey went, and they had a meeting. He was there, and he said after the fight, ‘I want to invite you guys to Vegas,’ that he wanted to fly us in.”

pects him back in the gym Monday to begin training for his next fight, which is supposed to be a Showtime-televised lightweight title unification bout with Robert Easter Jr. (21-0, 14 KOs) on July 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, though the fight has not been formally announced.

“That’s what it looks like, but Mikey hasn’t confirmed the fight yet, but I know he’s training on Monday,” Robert Garcia said. “But I don’t know if Mikey wants to get into a promotional contract. If he does sign with Dana, it’s got to be something that makes a lot of sense for Mikey. What we’ve seen Dana do with UFC, if he’s able to bring something like that to boxing, then it will be huge. I think Mikey would do something [with White] if it was well worth it for him.”

In the main event, Australian world-ranked lightweight contender “Ferocious” George Kambosos Jr., 136, of Sydney, impressed in his DBE and US debut, demolishing Jose Forero, 140, in just 108 seconds. Kambosos felled Forero, of San Francisco, Panama, twice with his powerful straight right. The contest concluded shortly thereafter when Kambosos battered Forero with a barrage, ending with a cracking left hook to force a stoppage. Ranked #5 by the WBA and #11 by the WBO, Kambosos is now 14-0 (8 KOs), while Forero dropped to 13-7-1 (11 KOs). He is training in Los Angeles under the guidance of a fellow Australian transplant, former heavyweight contender Justin Fortune.

Making her ninth appearance at Foxwoods Resort Casino, the popular Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent, 127, of Providence, RI, battled Budapest, Hungary’s Edina Kiss, 127, for 10 rounds. Managed by Mike Criscio and trained by Peter Manfredo Sr., Vincent consistently pressured her way inside to land shots to the body, often followed by her overhand right. Down the stretch, Vincent had success with her left hook upstairs. Kiss boxed well over the second half, doing her best to keep Vincent at bay with jabs and footwork. Two scorecards favored Vincent via shutout at 100-90, but the third judge had a different perspective, acknowledging Kiss’ effort to call the bout a 95-95 draw, resulting in a majority decision victory for Vincent, now 22-1 (1 KO). Kiss’ record dropped to 14-7 (8 KOs). Vincent has won four straight since her only defeat in August 2016 via majority decision to Heather Hardy in what The Ring Magazine hailed as the “Female Fight of the Year.” She was honored by the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame as their “Fighter of the Year” in 2016, becoming the first female recipient of the award.

“Marvelous” Mykquan Williams, 139, of East Hartford, CT, made quick work of Orlando Felix, 139, of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, stopping him inside the opening frame. A straight right wobbled Felix into the blue corner then a follow-up barrage dropped him. Though Felix arose, another barrage of shots forced the referee to call a halt to the action at the 2:22 mark. Now 11-0 (7 KOs), Williams captured the WBC USNBC Silver super lightweight title. Felix suffered his second defeat, dipping to 12-2-1 (4 KOs). Promoted by DiBella Entertainment and managed by Jackie Kallen, Williams is trained out of Manchester Ring of Champions Society boxing gym by local legend and community leader Paul Cichon, whom he’s known since he was a child and looks upon as a surrogate father. Williams was a decorated amateur with a 45-13 record, highlighted by three gold-medal performances at the Ringside World Championships, in addition to winning the PAL Tournament and Silver Gloves Championships.

Massachusetts State rivals Khiry Todd, 143, of Lynn, MA, and Adrian Sosa, 142, of Lawrence, MA, engaged in a thrilling six-round welterweight contest between two unbeaten prospects. A fast-paced opening round saw both combatants landing their jabs to set up combinations and Sosa struck first with straight rights and left hooks. Sosa caught Todd with a barrage to start the second and straight rights appeared to bother him, though the Lynn resident collected himself to box well in the final minute. The third frame began with furious exchanges on the inside then Sosa regained control with his jab and straight right from a distance. Todd was more aggressive in round four, finding his target with stinging straight rights and left hooks. They traded left hooks in the fifth, and while Sosa seemed to do more damage, Todd again picked up the pace in the final minute. Sosa controlled the last round with a focused attack on the body. The judges tallied 57-57, 59-55, and 58-56, awarding the majority decision to Sosa, now 7-0 (5 KOs). The first blemish on Todd’s ledger left him at 7-1 (5 KOs). The 22-year-old Sosa was a 2014 New England Golden Gloves champion and turned pro in July 2016 following an 18-2 amateur career.

Heavyweight 6’6″ southpaw and 2016 Olympian for his native Uzbekistan, Bakhodir Jalolov, 244, made his pro debut against Mexico City’s Hugo Trujillo, 256. Trained by Pedro Diaz out of Miami, FL, Jalolov prodded with his jab early to measure the distance to land short, compact straight rights against his much shorter foe. A series of damaging left hooks floored Trujillo in the second frame. By the third, Trujillo was clearly fatigued and a straight left staggered him. Another left hook dropped the Mexican for a second time. He arose on unsteady legs resulting in a stoppage at the 1:14 mark. Trujillo, now 4-1-1 (2 KOs), suffered his first defeat. This contest was promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Fight Promotions Inc.

Trained by Don Saxby out of Gleason’s Gym, Brooklyn’s Khalid “Pure Gold” Twaiti, 125, patiently looking for openings to land stiff jabs and his straight right hand on Joseph Cole, 129, of Marrero, LA. A left hook and overhand right hurt Cole in the opener. An overhand right followed by a left hook dropped Cole midway through the second. A thudding left hook knocked Cole out cold 35 seconds into round three. With the knockout victory, Twaiti is now 3-0 (2 KOs), while Cole’s record hit 1-6 (1 KO). Twaiti turned pro in February 2017 after compiling a 74-15 amateur record.

Lamont Powell, 156, of Pawtucket, RI, successfully debuted as a professional, winning a four-round shutout on three scores of 40-35 against Boston’s Amadeu Cristiano, 162, now 0-2. Powell’s edge in speed was quickly evident and was key to his dominant performance. Powell consistently jabbed to the head and body and was adept at countering his foe’s aggression with stiff jab-straight right combinations. Cristiano lost a point in the fourth for holding and hitting.

In a junior lightweight bout scheduled for six rounds, Irvin Gonzalez Jr., 128, of Worcester, MA, squared off against veteran Jonathan Perez, 130, of Barranquilla, Colombia. Gonzalez began the bout often switching stances to confuse his foe and create openings. A right uppercut-straight left combination hurt Perez in round one. The second stanza saw Gonzalez doubling and tripling his left hook to both the head and body; a straight right had the Colombian wobbling into the ropes near the bell. Gonzalez ended the contest in the third with a left hook to the body followed by a left uppercut to drop Perez for a full 10-count. The stoppage came 42 seconds into round three to up Gonzalez’ record to 10-0 (9 KOs), while Perez dipped to 37-21 (29 KOs). Trained by his father Irvin Sr., Gonzalez was an accomplished amateur, winning the New England Golden Gloves in 2015 and participating in the 2016 Olympic Trials, while compiling a 90-15 record.

Davhon Shelton, 136, of Pawtucket, RI, successfully turned pro, winning a four-round unanimous decision against Carlos Galindo, 138, of Woburn, MA, with three tallies of 39-37. For much of the contest, Shelton’s pressure had Galindo in retreat. Whenever, Shelton had Galindo backed into a corner, he would unleash a volley of body shots. Galindo has lost all three of his professional bouts.

Born in Uzbekistan, but now living and training in Brooklyn, NY, with Andre Rozier, Hurshidbek Normatov, 155, outboxed hard-hitting Colombian Ronald Montes, 154, of Barranquilla, over six rounds to earn a shutout decision with three scorecards of 60-54 in his favor. The southpaw Normatov easily evaded most of Montes’ offensive attempts then countering with his jab and straight left. As he warmed up, Normatov’s arsenal also included right hooks and combinations downstairs when he worked his way inside. With the win, Normatov improved to 6-0 (2 KOs), while Montes dropped to 18-9 (16 KOs). Promoted by DiBella Entertainment and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, Normatov was an experienced amateur competing in 324 bouts and winning the 2014 European National championship.

Garcia decisions Velez

Ryan Garcia remained undefeated by winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Jayson Velez at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

In round six, Velez began to drip blood down the right side of his face.

Garcia anded 152 of 531 punches, while Velez landed 71 of 405.

Garcia, 129.8 lbs of Victorville, CA won by scores of 99-91 on all cards, and is now 15-0. Velez, 130 lbs of Juncos, PR is 26-5-1.

“I feel good, but I need to learn some things,” said Ryan Garcia. “I need to learn how to handle roughhousing in a tough fight like that. Either way, I’m only 19 years old, so it was a good experience. It taught me a lot. Velez was a durable guy, but I landed a lot of crazy shots as well. I thank Jayson Velez, and I will learn from this experience. I still feel I’m on the fast track to a world-title fight. I beat a guy who fought for a world title.”

“I didn’t think he [Garcia] would last with me, but I was proven wrong,” said Jayson Velez. “He needs a little more experience, but he’s going to be big. He moves well, and was able to keep up with me. He’s a great opponent, and we put on a great show. I’m proud of what we did here.”

Gary O’Sullivan stopped Berlin Abreu after round three of their scheduled 10-round middleweight bout.

O’Sullivan, 158.2 lbs of Cork, IRE is 28-2 with 20 knockouts. Abreu, 159.8 lbs of Rio Pierdas, PR is 14-2.

“Abreu could punch, and he caught me with a couple of good ones,” said Gary O’Sullivan. “I came to do my job, and that was to get the win. This win doesn’t compare to what’s waiting for me – I’m waiting for my next big stage. Who knows? You might see me on the next major Mexican Holiday Weekend.”

Seniesa Estrada stopped Amarilis Adorno in round three of their scheduled six-round flyweight bout.

Adorno was cut above the right eye in round two, and the bout was stopped at 38 seconds of round three.

Estrada, 108 lbs of East Los Angeles, CA is 13-0 with 3 knockouts. Adorno, 108 lbs of Vega Alta, PR is 1-7.

“I knew I was going to knock her out at some point,” said Seniesa Estrada. “I knew the referee stopped the fight because of the cut over her eye. I just kept landing my left hook aiming for her eye knowing she’d give up soon. I hope that the next time I fight, I really get to show my fans what I’m made of. I want my next fight to be a world title. I’m ready.

Marvin Cabrera stopped Wilfrido Buelvas in round three of a scheduled eight-round middleweight bout.

Cabrera landed a right to the side of the head for which Buelvas thought it was a rabbit punch and he took a knee. It was ruled a knockdown by referee Jerry Cantu, and he reached the count of 10 at 1:11 of round three.

Cabrera, 156.6 lbs of Los Angles is now 8-0 with 6 knockouts. Buelvas, 155.6 lbs of Apartado, COL is 18-9.

“I felt I was stronger and that recovered quicker in this fight,” said Marvin Cabrera. “I was more conditioned. He caught me in the first round, but that was it. I’m ready for fighters of a different caliber and with more experience. I think I showed that in this fight.”

Richard Acevedo made quick work of Edward Aceves by scoring a 1st round stoppage in a scheduled four-round super welterweight bout.

Acevedo was all over Aceves until he dropped and the fight was stopped at 59 seconds.

Acevedo, 152.6 lbs of Los Angeles is 2-0 with 2 knockouts. Aceves, 153.4 lbs of Pomona, CA is 0-4.

“I felt great,” said Richard Acevedo. “I did this with the support of my team and my brothers. This win especially was for my mom. What’s next? It’s back to the gym on Monday to keep training.”

“For the first half of this camp I was working out in Las Vegas, getting good sparring with top level guys. For the second half of training camp I went to the Bay Area where I was training at the SNAC facility with Victor Conte. I got some amazing work out there as well. All in all, it’s been a magnificent training camp. Right now, my body is feeling fantastic and I’m ready to shine on fight night.”

On facing his toughest opponent to date, Mason Menard…

“Menard has a lot of power in both hands and he’s fought some very tough opponents. He’s got a lot of experience and is by far my toughest opposition. I’m confident in my ability to come out victorious. On May 11th, everyone will see what all the hype is about. I’m going to bring the heat.”

On fighting in Philadelphia for the vacant USBA/IBF Lightweight Title …

The USAB title will be on the line so you already know I’m coming to put on a show. Many great boxers in the past and present have all fought in Philadelphia. I want to follow in their footsteps and become great. I’m making my own history one fight at a time.”

DUBOIS V LITTLE AND LEATHER V DAVIES CONFIRMED FOR JUNE 23 AT THE 02

Two exciting domestic match-ups have been confirmed for the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO Middleweight World Title defence against Martin Murray at The O2 on June 23.

Heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois (7-0, 7 KO’s) takes on Hatfield’s Tom Little (10-5, 3 KO’s) for the Vacant English Heavyweight Championship and undefeated Guisborough Super-Lightweight talent Josh Leather (13-0, 6 KO’s) squares off with highly-ranked Hackney man Ohara Davies (16-1, 13 KO’s).

Dubois will be aiming to continue his seven fight KO streak when he fights at The O2 for the first time next month. Little is looking to return to winning ways after a loss against Hungarian 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Filip Hrgovic.

“I’m looking forward to fighting in my hometown of Greenwich on June 23rd,” said Dubois. “Tom is another step up in level for me on my journey to the top of the Heavyweight division. I’m determined to add the English belt to my collection in front of my home crowd.

“I’ve seen that he’s been very vocal towards me on social media but I do my talking in the ring. I seem to remember Tom making similar claims ahead of his fight against Filip Hrgovic back in January and look what happened to him there.”

“I’m delighted to get the opportunity to stop the hype machine in its tracks,” said Little. “This is a fight that I truly believe I will win. I’m not taking anything away from Daniel, he’s very talented but I’ve seen gaps in his armour and things that I can exploit, he’s tailor made for me!

“This is the perfect time for me to face Daniel. I see him as a child trapped in a man’s body and on June 23 I’m going to outman him and stop him late.”

Leather was last in action in a 12-round war against local rival Glenn Foot and the Metro Radio Arena Newcastle in November, edging a close points win to keep hold of his IBF European belt.

Davies has been out of the ring since his explosive sixth-round stoppage win over Tom Farrell in September and is set to make his return against Christopher Sebire at Elland Road on May 19th.

“This is a great fight and one that that I’m very confident of winning,” said Leather. “I possess the skill, speed and power to see me past him. Ohara is a slick boxer but I’ll have too much for him. He won’t know where I’m coming from and I’ll do exactly the same as what Josh Taylor did to him.”

“I admire Josh’s grit and heart but I don’t see him making it past the eighth round,” said Davies. “He does the basics very well and has a great engine but my skill and focus will win me this fight. I can’t overlook my fight at Elland Road on May 19th but I’ve already started adjusting my training for June 23rd. I won’t be taking Josh lightly.”

Dubois v Little and Leather v Davies are part of a huge night of boxing at The O2 on June 23rd.

An unmissable card also features rising Light-Heavyweight star Anthony ‘The Beast’ Yarde; Darryll Williams defending his English Super-Middleweight title against Lennox Clarke and Erith Featherweight Lewis Pettitt taking on Birmingham’s undefeated Raza Hamza over eight rounds.

Peckham Welterweight Johnny Garton, Southampton Featherweight Ryan Garner, Welling Super-Featherweight Archie Sharp; Ilford Super-Middleweight Umar Sadiq; Chigwell Flyweight Harvey Horn and Erith Flyweight Jake Pettitt complete a stacked card with the professional debut of Hainult Cruiserweight James Branch.

Tickets for Saunders v Murray priced from £40 (Tier) to £300 (Hospitality) are available to purchase via www.axs.com.

LONDON (3 May, 2018) – Pound-for-pound star Gennady Golovkin’s ring return this Saturday night against Vanes Martirosyan will be shown live and exclusive on BoxNation.

The unified middleweight world champion Golovkin will put his WBC and WBA belts on the line against the man known as ‘The Nightmare’ at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The bout was quickly arranged following the suspension of Golovkin’s Mexican nemesis Canelo Alvarez after he tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol which saw their eagerly anticipated Las Vegas rematch cancelled.

Now, though, live and exclusive on BoxNation, UK and Ireland boxing fans will be able to see one of the sport’s most exhilarating fighters in action this weekend as he looks to defend his middleweight titles successfully for the 20th time, a feat previously accomplished only by Hall-of-Famer Bernard Hopkins.

Despite going in as the underdog against the Kazakh, 31-year-old Martirosyan has already shared the ring with some accomplished names including Erislandy Lara and Jermell Charlo and will be seeking a title for the third time.

“Vanes Martirosyan is now the most important fight of my career. He has my respect, and I have been training hard to defend my titles against him,” Golovkin said. “I am happy to be fighting at the StubHub Center because they have great boxing fans. I will give my fans another big drama show.”

“Gennady has had such a terrific training camp in Big Bear. It wouldn’t be fair to him to let it go to waste just because Canelo was being punished,” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez added. “Gennady is going to light up Cinco De Mayo as only a true Mexican-style fighter can. I can’t wait to unleash him.”

Even though he will be moving up to 160-pounds for the first time, the younger Martirosyan believes it will be a huge boost for him going into the fight.

“I always fought better at higher weight classes,” Martirosyan said. “Whenever there was a catchweight in my career, I always did better. So I think it’s going be good because I don’t have to kill myself to make weight.”

Jim McMunn, BoxNation Managing Director, said: “Gennady Golovkin always guarantees excitement and devastating knockout power. We are very pleased to be showcasing him once again live and exclusive on BoxNation this Saturday night against Vanes Martirosyan. Martirosyan might be seen as the underdog but many times in the past we have seen fighters written off and underestimated only for them to produce a shock. Golovkin cannot be careless going into this fight but no matter how it plays out he is sure to produce fireworks that will have fans on the edge-of-their-seats.”

Hartford Boxing Promotions Announces inaugural show “Fight Night at the Capital”

HARTFORD, Conn. (May 3, 2018) -Hartford Boxing Promotions has announced its inaugural event, “Fight Night at the Capital”, to take place Saturday night, June 16, at Xfinity Centre in Hartford, Connecticut.

Boxing trainer Tony Blanco and his Hartford Boxing Center gym partner, Michael Tran, have teamed with their undefeated light heavyweight prospect, Richard “Popeye The Sailor Man” Rivera (7-0, 6 KOs), to form Hartford Boxing Promotions.

“I’m excited about the entire card and providing a platform for some of the best amateurs in recent Connecticut boxing history to fight,” Blanco said. “‘Popeye’ is in the main event. He’s sparred against world champions and each experience has given him more confidence. He’s on his way to greatness. We’re also showcasing (‘The Special One’) Sharad Collier in his pro debut. This kid is something special. Richard is exactly what Hartford needs, somebody youngster can look up to as a role model. ‘Popeye’ is exciting to watch and very popular. Sharad is going to be like that, too.
