Zolani Tete will make the second defence of his WBO Bantamweight World Championship against Omar Andres Narvaez on the blockbuster Frampton v Donaire bill at Belfast’s SSE Arena on Saturday 21st April.

Tete (26-3, 21 KO’s) had been due to defend his title against Narvaez in London this month but was forced to postpone the bout after suffering a calf injury in training but will now return to the scene of his record-breaking knockout win over Siboniso Gonya.

The thunderous punching South African won a legion of new fans back in November when he stopped countryman Gonya in just eleven seconds, setting a new World record for the fastest ever knockout recorded in a World Title fight.

‘Last Born’ floored Gonya with a brutal right hook just six seconds into the first defence of his 118lbs strap, firing a warning to WBA ‘Super’ Bantamweight Champion and Belfast native Ryan Burnett in the process.

Narvaez (47-2-2, 25 KO’s) is 5-0 since a knockout loss to Naoya Inoue and recently forced the previously unbeaten Nikolai Potapov to quite in seven. He has held the WBO Flyweight and Super-Flyweight World Titles and will be aiming to become a three-weight World Champion on April 21st.

“Let’s see who the real Bantamweight king is,” said Tete. “I want to unify the division and Ryan Burnett is standing in my way. Let’s not rob the public of a brilliant fight, they want to see the best fight the best.

Also added to the Frampton v Donaire card is Tamworth Light-Heavyweight prospect Ryan Hatton who will be aiming to improve his unbeaten record to 3-0 when he fights over four rounds.

Three tasty all-Irish fights feature on an action-packed undercard as Dubliner Jono Carroll (15-0, 2 KO’s) clashes with Belfast’s Marco McCullough (18-4, 11 KO’s) for the IBF European Super-Featherweight title, Tyrone McKenna (15-0-1, 6 KO’s) meets Light-Welterweight rival Philip Sutcliffe Jr (14-2, 9 KOs’), while WBO European Champion Conrad Cummings (12-1-1) and Irish champion Luke Keeler (13-2, 5 KO’s) will do battle at Middleweight.

After being widely rumored to be heading to Madison Square Garden, The proposed Pay-Pew-View card featuring Jeff Horn defending his WBO Welterweight title bout between Jeff Horn and Terence Crawford will be staged at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Although the fight, long in the works, has not been officially announced, Bob Arum said it is now agreed to on both sides. The site, though, will be Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas as the main event of a pay-per-view card Top Rank is putting on in conjunction with ESPN as part of their long-term deal.

“Mandalay Bay is a great venue and we’re happy to put this card on there,” Arum said. “You’ve got a lot of boxing in New York coming up, so it made sense to move the fight to Las Vegas when Mandalay Bay became available.”

Arum said that he is in the process of finalizing the co-feature between Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao, the former eight-division world champion, and former junior welterweight titlist Mike Alvarado (38-4, 26 KOs), 37, of Denver.

Arum said there would also be another world title bout on the card. It will pit junior featherweight world titleholder Jessie Magdaleno (25-0, 18 KOs), 26, of Las Vegas, in his mandatory defense against hard-hitting Isaac Dogboe (18-0, 12 KOs), 23, of Ghana.

Arum said he initially was going to make that fight the main event of his April 28 ESPN card but decided to move it to the April 14 show to beef up the pay-per-view.

“That’s going to be a really good fight,” Arum said. “It’s a 50-50 fight, I think. Both guys can really hit.”

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 14, 2018) – Two-division world champion Danny Garcia and former world champion Brandon Rios hosted a media workout in Las Vegas on Wednesday ahead of WBC Welterweight World Title Eliminator this Saturday, February 14 live on SHOWTIME from Mandalay Bay Events Center, and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

“I don’t care what the critics say because at the end of the day that’s what they are, just critics. It’s all good. I can tell you right now I’m in shape. I’m on weight already.

“Everyone knows the way I fight. Going all out is my style. I’ll walk through brick walls to get the victory. Everyone will see on Saturday night the new and improved Bam Bam.

“Think about why I looked like [crap] after my last fight. I’ve been through wars after wars and wars in my previous fights, and that takes a toll on your body. It happens. And I realized it and I took a step back and I wasn’t doing it right with dieting and training. I was doing it with heart and balls.

“Now I feel rejuvenated and fresh. So you will see the new and improved Brandon. I feel young and not war-shot, or whatever you guys want to call it. I want to go out there and prove everyone wrong. I’m going to prove every one of you wrong. There’s going to be a smile on my face when I win this fight and I will put up my middle finger to all of you.

“Danny’s a strong fighter and he has power in both hands. He’s a great counter-puncher. One thing I like is he doesn’t move or run, he likes to bang it out, and that suits my style better. But if he does run, we’ll be ready for that too. I sparred with young guys, so I’m ready.

“Thanks to all of you guys for calling me out, and calling me a cherry, or whatever. I love it. It’s all good. That’s the chip on my shoulder I got. I’m not a cherry, I might be a wild berry, but I’m not a cherry.”

DAVID BENAVIDEZ

“The preparation we had for this camp was amazing. Three months in training camp, we made a lot of changes for this fight and we’re ready to go in there and take care of business.

“Winning the title changed my confidence but it changed my work too. Now I know everybody is gunning for my title and I don’t want to let it go. All the work and sacrifice it took for me to get this – I’m not going to let it go.

“I feel very strong. The weight is good. I feel amazing and you guys are going to see it come Saturday.

“I don’t think Gavril can do any better than he did in the last fight. He’s a one trick pony and he doesn’t have many tricks left, he’s getting old. We’ve been working on a lot of different styles for this fight and I feel more than ready.

“I’m very motivated. I stayed very dedicated to this training camp. I’m ready to go in there and play no games. I’m going to do what I say and I’m going to knock Gavril out.

“I feel I could have done better in the first fight. Having everybody tell me Gavril should have won and him talking a lot of smack, it’s the motivation and drive that I needed to train the way I did in this camp.

“The sickness during the first fight took a lot out of me but my mentality is that I’m a warrior and I’m always going to push through it no matter what. This time, we didn’t have any injuries or sickness so I can’t wait to put on a show on Saturday.

“This is the first time I’ve really had a chip on my shoulder. All the hard work it took for me to get this belt, and people say it was just given to me? No way, I’m going to go in there and show why I’m the youngest champion in the super middleweight division.

“I want to become the best in the division. I want to earn every victory and fight the best. I would love to fight the World Boxing Super Series winner. I’ll be ready for anybody. I worked so hard to get this, nobody can take it from me.

“I’m thinking it will be a knockout around Round 5. It’s going to be a combination of the body and chin. It’s not really looking for the knockout, it’s just setting it up. I’m not going in just throwing haymakers, but I’ll set it up and if it comes, it will come in spectacular fashion.”

RONALD GAVRIL

“I trained a little bit different this time. I had way more time than the first fight to prepare. Last time was four weeks, this time I had a full 10 weeks. I have done a lot of rounds of sparring and a lot of work related to this fight.

“I learn after every fight. From the first fight against Benavidez, I learned even more because it was a tough, tight fight.

“His people tried to make him a superstar before he fought me. I don’t know what people said after the first fight, but they should wait until after the rematch. I’m the stronger fighter.

“The difference in this fight is going to be who boxes smarter. I feel I’m the smarter fighter because if I need to box, I box; if I need to put pressure, I put pressure. I can adapt.

“I think this is going to be the fight of the year. It’s going to be special. The fans should all come see this fight because it’s going to be amazing with two warriors.

“I’m not looking for a knockout. I’m looking to win every round. But I also don’t want to leave it in the judges’ hands like last time, so we’ll see what happens Saturday.

“I’m ready to win. It would be a dream come true. This is why I came here to America from Romania.”

YORDENIS UGAS

“We are both good fighters. But I am ready to put on the fight of the night for the fans and I will be victorious.

“I had a great training camp. I just made sure to listen to my coach every day and grind every day with my team. You really have to grind when people say this is your ‘last chance,’ because I’m not ready for that.

“Every fight shows a lot. Every time I step into the ring it’s a new challenge. I haven’t had any shortcuts throughout my career. I’ve never treated a fight like an easy fight.

“Life tends to take you certain places and right now I’m where I’m supposed to be. I’m 31-years-old and I believe I’m going to be able to accomplish all my goals in this sport.

“Devon Alexander is a very fast boxer who was a champion for a reason. We’ve prepared for him in each and every way possible. We’ve worked hard to be in the best condition possible. I won’t step out of the ring without that victory.

“I’ve done what I have to do to prepare for Devon Alexander. I have speed and power and that’s a scary combination for any welterweight.

“Medina is a tough competitor. He puts it all on the line and he doesn’t quit. We’ve had problems in the past getting people to quit, but I feel we’ve figured out how to take me to that next level and get these guys out of there.

“This is a great USA vs. Mexico showdown. I’m coming to put on a show for all the fans here and watching on television.

“Everyone has a plan until they miss their first 40 punches. We both have plans, but all that matters is if you can translate that into the ring. “The fact that I’ve been sparring with David Benavidez in camp and have Alex Ariza around has me feeling very confident. I’m in great shape and will be ready for a great performance on fight night.

WBA Super Champion George Groves (27-3, 20 KOs) and IBO World Champion Chris Eubank Jr. (26-1, 20 KOs) exchanged words for at last time before their Ali Trophy semi-final clash on Saturday at the Manchester Arena.

“I have been involved in big fights before and I’ve learned a lot along the way,” said Groves. “This is a tremendous fight but it’s not my biggest fight to date. But I am in the form of my life, certainly I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in through my career. I’m fully prepared to go out there and retain my world title in style.”

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 14, 2018) – Fans can enjoy a six-fight boxing feast this Saturday as Premier Boxing Champions presents two shows on separate networks from two locations, showcasing matches in the welterweight and super middleweight divisions – two of the hottest divisions in the sport – on February 17.

The evening will kick off with former welterweight world champions Victor Ortiz (32-6-2, 25 KOs) and Devon Alexander (27-4, 14 KOs) in a true crossroads battle live in primetime in the main event on FOX and FOX Deportes from Don Haskins Center on the UTEP campus in El Paso, Texas starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Also in televised action on the show, Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (16-0, 10 KOs) will clash with Rogelio “Porky” Medina (38-8, 32 KOs) in a 12-round IBF super middleweight title elimination bout and sensational 2016 U.S. Olympian Karlos Balderas (3-0, 3 KOs), a first generation Mexican-American, will take on Jorge Rojas (4-2-1, 2 KOs) in a lightweight match.

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 14, 2018): Building on the momentum of women’s boxing in the current era of pugilism, the exciting Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (11-0, 2 KOs) will headline the highly anticipated March 16 return of LA FIGHT CLUB in an eight-round flyweight fight against Sonia Osorio (8-5-1, 1 KO) at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, Calif. and televised live on EstrellaTV’s Boxeo Estelar.

Estrada is a flyweight prospect who signed with Golden Boy Promotions in January of this year. The native of East Los Angeles, Calif. earned multiple titles as an amateur boxer before turning professional in 2011. Since then, the 24-year-old has developed into one of the biggest names in women’s boxing, fighting on important cards in the Los Angeles area, including an edition of LA FIGHT CLUB in 2016.

Osorio, a student of the Mexican school of boxing, has only been in tough fights in her career. The 25-year-old is coming off a unanimous decision victory win longtime veteran Noemi Bosques, and she is fearless in her attempt to ruin Estrada’s coming out party in her own territory.

“I’m excited to headline this fight against Seniesa Estrada,” said Osorio. “More than anything else, I’m excited to fight in California for the first time. I know that Estrada is an important name in women’s boxing in the United States, but I’ll demonstrate that Mexican fighters are not scared of fighting outside their home country and on enemy turf.”

Oscar Duarte (12-0-1, 8 KOs), the lightweight prospect of Parral, Mexico, will return in the co-main event in a six-round fight. Duarte will return after a spectacular fourth-round stoppage victory against Juan Jose Montes in October of last year.

Jousce “Tito” Gonzalez (6-0, 6 KOs) will open the Boxeo Estelar telecast in a six-round fight in the 130-pound division. Gonzalez is a hard-hitting puncher who will look to retain his 100% knockout ratio in his first fight as an official member of the Golden Boy Promotions stable.

Super Lightweight contender Antonio “Relentless” Orozco (26-0, 17 KOs) of San Diego, Calif. will make his highly anticipated return in an eight-round super lightweight fight. Super-Welterweight prospect CJ Challenger has signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren.

Challenger, 23, first caught the eye of Warren after his hugely-impressive first round stoppage win over the usually-durable Danny Little on the ‘City of Champions’ bill back in April 2017.

A successful amateur career saw the Leicester man win 21 of 30 bouts, picking up the Haringey Box Cup trophy at 69kg in 2016 before deciding to join the professional ranks later that year with manager Jason McClory.

Since turning over, Challenger has won all six of his contests, halting two inside the distance.

Fighting out of the Leicester Unity Boxing Gym alongside undefeated WBO European Super-Featherweight Champion Lyon Woodstock, Challenger is also trained by Ajmal ‘Hudge’ Butt and hopes to follow in his gym mate’s footsteps as Leicester’s next Champion.

“I’m delighted to have signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren,” said Challenger. “This is a massive opportunity for me and I’m going to grab it with both hands. I’m really excited for the future and I’m looking forward to showing what I can bring to the table.

Former lightweight beltholder Omar Figueroa was charged with Drunk Driving, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

Figueroa, 28, of Weslaco, Texas, was arrested by the Indian Wells Police Department at 3:14 a.m. on Jan. 29, according to Riverside County’s online records and confirmed to ESPN by the county sheriff’s office.

Figueroa, listed at 5-foot-8, 170 pounds — 30 pounds heavier than the contract weigh for the fight — was booked into the jail at 6:28 a.m. Jan. 29 and released on his own recognizance.

His next court date for the case is scheduled for March 26 at 7:30 a.m. at the Indio Larson Justice Center in Indio, California.

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, four-division world champion Adrien Broner has been charged with sexual battery in Atlanta.

According to the jail records, the incident occurred on Monday, and Broner had been released on $2,000 bail by Tuesday afternoon after a morning court appearance.

Broner, 28, of Cincinnati, was accused of groping a woman at Lenox Square, an Atlanta shopping mall, according to TMZ Sports.

“We’re very concerned about the reported behavior and will continue to monitor the situation, as well as potential repercussions for his scheduled fight,” a Showtime spokesman told ESPN in a statement.

“The Baby Faced Assassin” Max Ornelas (10-0-1) has been a juggernaut in the banatamweight division. Max has posted ten wins combined with zero defeats all while only losing two total rounds. Ornelas is also enrolled full time at The University of Nevada Las Vegas where he majors in Criminal Justice. When he’s not hitting the books, he’s dropping bodies in the ring.

Max has managed to vanquish many victims with major amounts of experience with ease. In his last 3 fights, the combined record of his opposition is 43-11. Now with his future brighter than a Nevadan sky, Ornelas will look to hoist his first title on his home court at the Cox Pavilion on April 20th.

However a Texas Tornado in the form of Tony Lopez (12-3) has locked in on the young Ornelas. Lopez is a 5 time title contender and recently finished a 2 year stretch where he faced 4 opponents with a combined 39-0 record. He capped that stint with a 5 round tko over Ranel Suco (16-8) for a WBC strap. Most recently he dropped a decision loss to former World Champion, Rico Ramos (28-5).

Now Lopez will look to open up against Ornelas to surprisingly spoil Max’s monumental moment. However don’t expect the Babyfaced Assassin to go quietly into the Vegas night.

George Groves (27-3, 20 KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (26-1, 20 KOs) entertained hundreds of fans at the National Football Museum ahead of their Ali Trophy semi-final on Saturday at the Manchester Arena.

Joe Cordina will face Andy Townend for the WBA International Lightweight title at Principality Stadium in Cardiff on March 31, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Cordina fights for his first title in his second fight at the national stadium in his hometown having boxed over four rounds there in October on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s World title clash with Carlos Takam.

‘The Welsh Wizard’ now gets his first title shot in his seventh outing in the paid ranks since turning pro in April and the Team GB Rio Olympian faces a tough task to get his hands on the strap against the ‘KO Kid’ from Barnsley, the former English Super-Featherweight champion who has won three of his four fights inside the distance.

“This is the perfect fight for me to start 2018,” said Cordina. “It’s a big step up for me. Andy is a proven fighter, just look at his record – there’s a lot of knockouts against some decent names.

“There’s no doubting he’s dangerous so I’ll have to bring my A-game. I think I’m more than capable of beating him to win my first title but I’m sure he thinks similar, it’s a good fight for the fans.

“I’ve only been a professional for a year, so it’s only since then I’ve really started scouting the domestic division. Before that I wasn’t too interested as my focus was on the amateur game.

“Andy also fought on the Bramall Lane show last year and put on a display so he’s got the experience of fighting on these big shows.

“I’m more than comfortable going the Championship distance. I live and train with three weight World champion Ricky Burns who is such an inspiration. Whatever he does, I do. You ask anyone how hard he trains and I’m holding my own fitness wise.

“It’ll be great to fight at the Principality Stadium again. I didn’t really have time to soak it all in last time but I’m grateful looking back I fought in front of so many people. I can look back with a smile and say I’ve boxed in front of 70,000 plus. To fight there twice is a massive and proud experience.

“I don’t want to be chucked in to any old fights, they have got to be the right fights at the right time and this is certainly one of those. When Tony Sims says it’s time to come off the leash and push on, we’ll do so.”
