WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION ERROL SPENCE JR. TO DEFEND AGAINST FORMER CHAMPION LAMONT PETERSON SATURDAY, JANUARY 20 LIVE ON SHOWTIME® FROM BARCLAYS CENTER IN BROOKLYN & PRESENTED BY PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS

BROOKLYN (Nov. 21, 2017) – Undefeated IBF Welterweight World Champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. will make the first defense of his title when he takes on former two-division world champion Lamont Peterson on Saturday, January 20 live on SHOWTIME. The event is presented by Premier Boxing Champions from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING®.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING coverage begins live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and will feature undercard attractions that will be announced in the near future.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and TGB Promotions, are priced starting at $50, and go on sale Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, barclayscenter.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center starting Thursday, Nov. 23 at noon. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast will also be available in Spanish via secondary audio programming (SAP).

“I’m pleased to be promoting Spence vs. Peterson, one of the very best matchups in the welterweight division and in all of boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Spence is not only one of the best welterweights in the world, but one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing. In Peterson, he faces another elite welterweight and a two-time world champion. Spence vs. Peterson will bring the heat to Barclays Center on a chilly January 20. This is yet another night in the outstanding run of big time fights on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.”

“Spence vs. Peterson is an intriguing matchup between two elite welterweights looking to reach the top of this marquee division,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Errol Spence is a rising star with his sights set on title unification and the top of the pound-for-pound list, but he’s going to receive a stern test from Lamont Peterson, a multiple division champion whose resume is filled with top class opponents. It’s going to be another fantastic atmosphere at Barclays Center and a great night of fights live on SHOWTIME.”

“With his breakout performance against Kell Brook, Errol Spence established himself as one of top fighters in the welterweight division, if not in all of boxing,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “Never one to rest on his laurels, Errol continues to seek out the toughest available opponents, and he has found exactly that in Lamont Peterson. Lamont has never backed down from a challenge, and as a result, he has a wealth of experience with one of the strongest resumes in the division. This type of high profile, dangerous matchup is the quintessential SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING main event.”

“BROOKLYN BOXING enjoyed a banner year in 2017, and we are looking forward to carrying that momentum into 2018,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “Spence vs. Peterson sets a strong precedent for the year, with two top welterweights returning to the ring at Barclays Center to compete for recognition in one of the sport’s most talented divisions.”

Spence (22-0, 19 KOs), of Dallas, traveled to England to dethrone IBF 147-pound champion and hometown favorite Kell Brook on May 27 on SHOWTIME in one of the defining fights of 2017. The 27-year-old, who had long been touted as boxing’s next big thing, fulfilled his promise with a breakthrough performance, fracturing Brook’s orbital bone en route to an 11th round TKO. A 2012 U.S. Olympian, Spence will enter the ring at Barclays Center for the third time after most recently stopping former champion Chris Algieri in an April 2016 main event. He will fight in Brooklyn for the fourth time; he earned his title shot by knocking out Leonard Bundu at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk in August 2016.

“My goal is to unify the welterweight division in 2018, but this fight is a true test and Lamont Peterson is a veteran that I definitely will not overlook,” said Spence. “I sparred him in the amateurs and I know what he brings to the table. I have to get through him to achieve my goals and that is what I plan on doing January 20th.”

Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KOs), of Washington, D.C., has won titles at 140 and 147 pounds while facing some of the biggest names in the sport, including Danny Garcia, Amir Khan and Timothy Bradley. The 33-year-old won the WBA 147-pound title in his last outing Feb. 18 on SHOWTIME before relinquishing the belt for the chance to challenge Spence. Peterson has won four of his last five outings, twice fighting at Barclays Center. His Brooklyn debut saw him defeat Edgar Santana by TKO in 2014 before dropping a narrow majority draw to Garcia in a 2015 main event in Brooklyn.

“First off, I’m happy to be getting back in the ring,” said Peterson. “I’ve stayed in the gym and I’m ready to go. This is a fight I wanted and as I said before when I became a welterweight, I want to fight the best and make the fights that people want to see. I’m ready to give it my all and give the fans a great show.”

BELLEW HAYE 2 POSTPONED

David Haye has been forced out of the rematch with Tony Bellew after injuring his bicep in freak accident.

Haye and Bellew were set to renew hostilities again at The O2 in London on December 17 following their rollercoaster first meeting in March won by Bellew, but the two teams will now work towards a new date for the rematch early in 2018, with news on that to come this week.

“I am devastated to announce my much-anticipated rematch against Tony Bellew has been postponed until March 24 or May 5, subject to scheduling,” said Haye. “Despite the recent injury rumours, I was in perfect condition with an incredibly strong training camp, currently weighing lighter than I have for more than five years, I couldn’t wait to get back in the ring. I was ready to rewrite the ending of the Haye Bellew saga.

“Unfortunately, after a freak accident during a stair conditioning session, which I’ve done with no incident hundreds of times, I lost my footing, slipped, so instinctively grabbed the bannister to stop myself toppling down the stairwell, in doing so I somehow managed to damage my bicep in the process. This afternoon I underwent a procedure to repair it, this was pretty straightforward and my doctor and physiotherapist have no doubt that not only will I make a full recovery but will be able to be back in the gym to start my arm rehabilitation in two weeks.

“I would like to apologise to Tony, his family and his training team, as well as all our fans who have been left disappointed. I’ve been solely focussed on this fight and it’s extremely frustrating that I couldn’t finish 2017 with just my ring performance doing the talking. I look forward to getting back to training and into the ring in early 2018 with excitement and determination.”

“I’m gutted that the rematch with David has been postponed, both for myself but more for the fans,” said Bellew. “I’ve had a tough camp with a lot going on in my life but was ready to repeat my win from March.

“I’ll get over this disappointment over Christmas with my family and will be straight back into camp for a new date, it’s a big disappointment but as always I leave my career in the hands of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing who will get me back in there ASAP.”
All original tickets will be valid for the future date. Fans should visit their point of purchase should they require a refund.

MIGUEL COTTO AND UNDERCARD FIGHTERS LOS ANGELES MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 20, 2017): Four-division world champion Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs) hosted a media workout today at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles ahead of the final fight of the future Hall of Famer’s career, which will be against Sadam “World Kid” Ali (25-1, 14 KOs) for Cotto’s WBO World Junior Middleweight Championship. The action will take place at the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Also participating in the workout was NABF Bantamweight Champion Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete (17-0, 7 KOs), who will challenge Rey Vargas (30-0, 22 KOs) for the WBC World Super Bantamweight belt in the HBO-televised co-main event, along with Ronny Rios (28-2, 13 KOs) and Aaron “Silencer” McKenna who will also be on the card in separate bouts that will be streamed on RingTV.com.

Here is what today’s participants had to say at the workout:

MIGUEL COTTO, Four Division World Champion:
“Though it has been my last training camp, everything has gone well and been the same. The fact that it is my last fight has not changed anything. I have always dedicated myself fully and have worked hard, and that’s why I’m here now, finishing my career on my terms. I haven’t really felt nostalgia yet during the final days of my camp. I’m just grateful for what boxing has given me and for the life it has allowed me to give to my children.”

OSCAR “EL JAGUAR” NEGRETE, Current NABF Bantamweight Champion:
“I’m so excited for this opportunity. This is everything that I have worked for so far in my career. Being undefeated doesn’t make him [Rey Vargas] invincible. I’m a forced to be reckoned with. People may underestimate me, but I know what I’ve done to make sure I walk away with the victory.”

RONNY RIOS, Featherweight Contender:
“I learned a lot from my last fight. I feel like that’s prepared me a lot for this next one. From my last fight I learned that I need to throw more punches and be more aggressive. If I would have just thrown 20 more punches in every round, things would have looked a lot different. I’m prepared for [Deivis] Julio, and I’m ready for fight night. As soon as I got the call, I was ready. I always stay ready in between fights.”

AARON “SILENCER” MCKENNA, Welterweight Prospect:
“Today’s workout and meeting the LA press was fantastic! I had a tremendous training camp and have had some really strong sparring at Maywood Gym. Ever since I put on my first pair of gloves at the age of 6, all the hard training, tournaments, amateur fights have led to me fighting at Madison Square Garden Dec. 2. I’m a delighted to be making my pro-debut and look forward to putting on a great show for the fans!”

Cotto vs. Ali, a 12-round fight for the Cotto’s WBO World Junior Middleweight Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions. UNBEATEN SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT PROSPECT BLAIR “THE FLAIR” COBBS IMPROVES TO 8-0, 6 KO’S WITH TKO VICTORY

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 20, 2017) – This past Saturday Prince Ranch Boxing’s super-lightweight prospect, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (7-0, 6 KOs), remained undefeated with a dominating performance against Ousmane Sylla (1-3-1, 1 KO), scoring a 4th round TKO. The scheduled 6-round bout took place at the at the Fitzgerald’s Casino & Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi.

“From the opening bell, Cobbs applied a tremendous amount pressure as he walked down Sylla, forcing him to fight going backwards. Cobbs was digging to the body with vicious intent. Cobbs continued to overwhelm Sylla with an all-out attack, landing multiple power shots to the head and body in rounds two and three. Finally, Cobbs landed another solid right hook to the head forcing the referee to stop the bout in the fourth round, giving him the TKO victory.

“Going into this fight I felt I had to get the knockout,” said Blair Cobbs. “I did exactly that by applying a lot of pressure and going to the body. After round three I knew he was wearing down, and that’s when I went for the knockout. Everything went great…now it’s time to get back in the gym and continue grinding.”

“Blair Cobbs is taking advantage of all the opportunities that have come his way,” stated Greg Hannely, president of Prince Ranch Boxing. “I believe he has all the talent to become a world champion in the next couple of years. We are going to keep him very busy moving forward. Sky is the limit for this kid.”

2016 Olympic bronze medalist Nico Hernandez & Hungarian champion Jozsef Ajtai have taken different paths into pro ranks “KO Night Boxing: Gold & Glory” fo vacant IBA Americas flyweight title

PARK CITY, Kansas (November 20, 2017) – USA Olympian and hometown hero Nico Hernandez and Hungarian flyweight champion Jozsef “Little Red” Ajtai took completely different paths into the professional ranks.

Hernandez vs, Ajtai is the eight-round main event for the vacant International Boxing Association (IBA) Americas flyweight title fight, Saturday night, December 2, on the “KO Night Boxing: Gold & Glory” card, at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas.

“KO Night Boxing: Gold & Glory” is a presentation of KO Night Boxing LLC., in association with Hartman Arena, and sponsored in part by Twister City Harley-Davidson Metro PCS, Mort’s Cigar Bar and Jimmy’s Egg.

The action will be taped live for future airing on CBS Sports Network.

The 21-year-old Hernandez (3-0, 2 KOs), fighting out of Wichita, was a decorated amateur boxer who compiled a sterling 123-12 record, highlighted by his bronze-medal winning performance at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. Hernandez made his pro debut last March. All his fights have been at home, each has been in the main event, and on national television. His fight against Ajtai, however, will be his first title fight, coming in only his fourth pro bout.

Ajtai, who is one year and six days younger than Hernandez, made his professional debut 2 ½ years ago, and he’s already fought in five title fights.

Hernandez’ amateur pedigree versus Ajtai’s pro experience?

“I feel like I’m already at the level of a lot of top pro fighters,” Hernandez said. The only advantage he has is he’s used to fighting more rounds than I (this is Nico’s first scheduled 8-rounder), but I don’t plan on letting it go the distance anyways.

“I feel blessed to have this IBA title fight opportunity so early in my pro career. It honestly couldn’t come any faster. I do believe it will be special and open a tot of opportunities to fight bigger names once I win this fight. A win should open-up additional title fight opportunities, both overseas and, hopefully, back here at home to help us continue building Wichita into a fight town.”

Ajtai (19-9, 12 KOs) has already had 28 pro fights, including a full 10-round distance loss by decision last year at Madison Square Garden in New York City to two-time Olympic gold medalist Shiming Zou, the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight world champion. The Hungarian has fought at home in Hungary, as well as on the road in the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Ukraine and Slovakia. A trip to America’s heartland doesn’t faze him in the least.

“He will be at home, where everybody wants to fight, but this isn’t a problem for me,” Ajtai explained. “I know he is a good boxer, but I will try to be a bit better December 2nd. When my condition is good, as it is for this fight, nobody likes to fight me.

“This is a big opportunity for me. It’s always difficult to beat a good fighter but doing so is real success. Fighting Shiming Zou in only my fourth fight was very nice for me. I want that feeling again in this fight against Nico.”

Hernandez realizes that this fight could be his last at home for a while, due to the lack of quality American flyweights, and that most world-class fighters in his weight class are from Central America, Thailand and Japan.

“I don’t think I’ll have many more fights at home,” Hernandez admits. “I don’t think that will matter too much because I feel more pressure fighting at home than elsewhere. I will miss everyone cheering my name like they do at home. I think I’ll be traveling more to fight bigger names to work my way up the ladder until I’m at the top.

“I think the early rounds in this fight (vs. Ajtai) will be a chess match because, from what I’ve seen, he runs a lot. I feel that once I start landing my body shots, he’ll slowdown in the latter rounds. and, like I’ve said, I don’t plan on this fight going the distance.”

Ajtai, of course, isn’t traveling all the way to Kansas to visit Dorothy or the Wizard of Oz, he’s coming to win!

“Nico will not know where I will be in the ring,” Ajtai predicted. “When he looks to the left for me, I will go to the right; when he tries to find me on the right, I will be on the left. When he wants to rest, I will come forward punching; when he wants to punch, he won’t find me.

“I have a plan for this fight and I’m sure he does as well. But, in the ring, only one fighter’s plan can succeed. It’s going to be a good fight, but I can’t promise the public that Nico will be the winner.”

The full “Gold & Glory” card will be announced later this week. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 24 @ 10 a.m. CT) at the Hartman Arena box office and http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/50551?Brand=Hartman. Prices are $115.00 (VIP), $75.00, $50.00, $35.00, $25.00 and $20.00 (prices do not include service fees). Student tickets are available – kindergarten through college – for $15.00 dollars but are only sold at the arena. Student Identification is requited.

This is an all-ages show. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. CT with the opening bout scheduled at 6:00 p.m. CT.

BRYANT CRUZ, EDGAR BERLANGA AND DUKE MICAH SCORE IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES AT EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S THE REAL DEAL BOXING IN NYC!

New York City (November 19, 2017) On Saturday night, Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Sports & Entertainment returned to Resorts World Casino New York City with another sold-out, action-packed nine-bout card for the latest installment of its popular “Real Deal Championship Boxing” series, proudly sponsored by Medical Arts Radiology, Venum, and Nissan of Queens.

“It was a tremendous event for our second show in New York City and we are thrilled with the overwhelming response from the media and fans,” said Eric Bentley COO of Real Deal Boxing.

In the main event, Bryant “Peewee” Cruz, 129.8 lbs., of Port Chester, NY, impressively demolished Dominican Angel Luna, 128.8 lbs., of Yamasa, in three rounds. Cruz got off to a slow start, with Luna the aggressor during the first two frames. In the third, Cruz exploded with two straight rights upstairs to fell his opponent. With Luna unable to rise, the bout was halted at the 0:42 mark. Cruz’ record is now 18-2 (9 KOs), while Luna, who previously went the distance with Toka Kahn Clary and Tevin Farmer, dropped to 12-4-1 (7 KOs).

Highly touted middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga, 161.4 lbs., of Brooklyn, NY, needed just 102 seconds to up his perfect record to 6-0 (6 KOs) against Enrique Gallegos, 161.8 lbs., of Medford, Oregon, now 7-6-1 (2 KOs). Left hooks to the body and head from Berlanga resulted in the first knockdown. When Gallegos arose, Berlanga launched a barrage of shots, finishing with an overhand right, to drop his foe a second time to secure the TKO stoppage. As an amateur, Berlanga became an eight-time National champion while compiling a 162-17 record.

Duke “The Baby Faced Terminator” Micah, 117 lbs., a 2012 Olympian for Ghana now living in The Bronx, NY, engaged Mexican Jose Santos Gonzalez, 117.2 lbs., of Guadalajara, in a very entertaining 10-round battle of attrition. It was the US debut for both of them. The first half belonged to Micah, countering Gonzalez’ aggression. A left hook wobbled Gonzalez to end round one. Chopping straight rights were a primary tool for Micah and a cut was opened above Gonzalez’ left eye in round four. The orthodox Gonzalez consistently switched to southpaw throughout as he worked to get inside. Over the next few frames, Gonzalez was pressuring and walking Micah backward, banging away at the body. Micah made an effort to box and move in the eighth, using his jab and straight right to regain control. However, the relentless Gonzalez continued to attack and the two were trading power shots at the final bell. An even scorecard of 95-95 was overruled by two tallies of 96-94 in favor of Micah, winner by majority decision. With the win, Micah, now 21-0 (18 KOs), defended his WBC International bantamweight title for the first time. Gonzalez’ record moved to 23-6 (13 KOs).

Alicia Napoleon, 154.8 lbs., of Lindenhurst, NY, out boxed Budapest, Hungary’s Nikolett Papp, 159.6 lbs., over six rounds en route to a shutout decision victory. Napoleon circled her game opponent each frame, landing an array of punches with bad intentions. Outworking her adversary, Napoleon blasted Papp with overhand rights, left hooks and jabs and hooks downstairs. A left hook opened a cut above Papp’s right eye in round three and a straight right stunned her in the fourth. With three tallies of 60-54, Napoleon improved to 8-1 (5 KOs). Papp returned home with a 4-2 (2 KOs) record.

Rafael Castillo, 118.4 lbs., of The Bronx, NY, evened up his record at 1-1, earning a unanimous decision over four rounds in an upset against favorite Saleh Almulaiki, 118.2 lbs., of Richmond Hill, NY, now 1-1 (1 KO). Scorecards read 40-36, and 39-37 twice. Castillo applied pressure for the entire route. Almulaiki, whose best round was the last, was forced to play the role of counterpuncher for much of the contest.

Ghanaian Fredrick Lawson, 149.6 lbs., of The Bronx, NY, who won the WBC International Silver welterweight title in March, stayed on his toes to outbox Colombian Fidel Monterrosa, 150.8 lbs., of Barranquilla, and methodically break him down with hooks to the body. Monterrosa hit the canvas twice in round two, first by a right hook to the body-straight right to the head from Lawson. Following three completed rounds, Monterrosa could not come out of his corner for the fourth due to an injury suffered to his right hand. With the TKO victory, Lawson’s record increased to 26-1 (21 KOs), while Monterrosa fell to 38-14-1 (30 KOs).

Middleweight southpaw Justin “The Brooklyn Knight” Biggs, 158.2 lbs., a three-time Junior Olympics gold medalist, controlled the first six minutes against Newark, NJ’s Simon Saye, 159.2 lbs., probing with his jab to get in close enough to land combinations and was particularly effective with right hooks to the body. Early in the third, Biggs caught Saye wide open with a counter right hook upstairs to drop him hard. The referee immediately waved off the bout without a count, awarding Biggs his second straight knockout victory in as many pro bouts, at the 0:59 mark. Saye remains winless at 0-2-1.

Panamanian welterweight prospect Cesar Francis, 143.6 lbs., of Brooklyn, NY, took on the always-game Maxito Sainvil, 142 lbs., of Spring Valley, NY, and used his height advantage to keep his foe at bay with stiff jabs setting up straight rights and left hooks. Sainvil tried his best to close the gap by leaping in with wild haymakers. Francis countered one of those shots with a left hook-right hook combination to fell Sainvil in round two. Sainvil remained game and willing to trade until a barrage of punches from Francis forced the referee to halt the contest at the 1:10 mark of round three. Francis is now 3-0 (2 KOs) with Sainvil, suffering his second consecutive loss, at 4-2-1 (2 KOs).

Ukrainian heavyweight Iegor Plevako, 215.6 lbs., stalked Sherman Artis, 221.2 lbs., Severn, MD, throughout four scheduled rounds, increasing in intensity each frame, to earn a unanimous decision with three scores of 40-36. Artis attempted to circle the ring and box from a distance, but Plevako planted jabs to the midsection to quell that movement. By round two, Plevako began unleashing his straight right upstairs then landing in combination over the second half. With the win, Plevako, based in Brooklyn, NY, upped his record to 5-0 (3 KOs), while Artis fell to 3-2.

Real Deal Sports & Entertainment is proud to partner with Medical Arts Radiology (www.medicalartsradiology.com) and Venum (www.venum.com). Nissan of Queens, NY is a proud sponsor of Real Deal Boxing.

Laureano made his New York debut at the Paramount in September, earning a vicious knockout of James Lester. Hernandez earned the nickname “Hitman” due to his love for exchanging with opponents in the center of the ring. This is one bout you will not want to miss.

Returning to the ring after a three-year layoff, coming from Huntington, NY by way of Haiti, undefeated Jr. Middleweight Wendy “Haitian Fire” Toussaint (Huntington NY, 6-0 1KO) makes his return to the ring in a 6-round Jr. Middleweight bout against Daniel Castro (Yonkers NY, 2-1 1KO). Toussaint has fought 6 times at the popular Long Island series, Star Boxing’s Rockin’ Fights, and will be fighting for the first time at Mohegan Sun.

In a 6-round middleweight bout, former women’s middleweight world champion Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis (Providence RI, 12-6-1 4KOs) steps in against Tiffany Woodard (Wilson NC, 4-8-3 3KOs). The last time Reis took to the ring at Mohegan Sun, she fought her way to a unanimous decision victory over Ashleigh Curry, and will look to continue her winning ways on November 25th.

Carlos Marrero (Hartford CT, Pro-Debut) will look to begin his career with a win in his hometown, as he takes on Sequan Felton (Rochester NY, 1-2) in a scheduled 4-round super featherweight bout.

Valerio Nocera (Rome Italy, 3-0-1) will put his undefeated record on the line as he makes his United States debut, against Dan Murray (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Boston, MA, 2-1) who is no stranger to big stages, as he recently fought on the undercard of Garcia vs. Broner at the Barclays Center. This bout is a scheduled for 4 rounds in the Jr. Welterweight division.

“From top to bottom, we have put on a top notch card for the deserving Connecticut fans at Mohegan Sun,” said Star Boxing head Joe DeGuardia. “Not only will we have two very competitive WBC title fights in Bejenaru vs Mchunu and Gonzalez vs O’Connor, but we are also excited to have Anthony Laureano back in front of his hometown fans against Johnny Hernandez in what should be a great bout between two bangers. From the time the doors open at Mohegan Sun Arena, we expect a rowdy and ready crowd, prepared for an exciting night of fights.”

Giovani Santillan Successfully Defends NABO Welterweight Title Friday Night

ORANGE, Calif. (Nov. 18, 2017) – Giovani Santillan (23-0, 13 KOs), the No. 7 rated welterweight by the WBO, delivered a masterful performance in knocking out Dodzi Kemeh (13-2, 12 KOs) in the fourth round Friday night in Thompson Boxing Promotions’ “New Blood” main event.

With the knockout win, Santillan successfully defended his WBO NABO Title for the first time.

“I wanted this performance to be memorable and it certainly was,” said Santillan, who lives in San Diego, but conducts most of his sparring in Los Angeles. “I’ve worked hard to get to this point and I look forward to what’s ahead in 2018.”

Santillan likely climbs the rankings after his emphatic win, potentially landing inside the top five and earning serious consideration for a world title opportunity.

The unbeaten southpaw was on point Friday night from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif. He landed a jarring left upper cut that constantly split the guard of the bigger Kemeh. He used an accurate jab to keep Kemeh honest, and he closed out the show by landing steady combinations.

After the fourth round, Kemeh confusingly walked toward a neutral corner, which prompted an examination by the ringside physician. He consequently ruled him unfit to continue, which led to the fourth round stoppage win for Santillan.

Featherweight Erick Ituarte (19-1-1, 3 KOs) shot out of the corner with both hands firing resulting in a first round (2:52) knockout of veteran Gustavo Molina (15-17, 5 KOs) in the “New Blood” co-feature.

Ituarte looked like a man on a mission launching combination after combination. Near the end of the first round, Iturate punched Molina into his corner and delivered an onslaught that forced referee Raul Caiz, Jr. to stop the fight just seconds before the bell.

“I wanted to start fast and not let this go to the judges,” said Ituarte, who won his last two fights by split decision. “He wasn’t ready for what I brought tonight [Friday].”

Lightweights Manuel Mendez (15-2-3, 11 KOs) and Abraham Cordero (13-3-2, 7 KOs) fought to a majority draw as neither boxer could put their stamp on the 8-round fight. Each fighter had moments, with Mendez finding success inside the pocket, and Cordero attacking well from the outside.

Bantamweight prospect Mario Hernandez (4-0, 1 KO) of Santa Ana, Calif. earned his first knockout win by routinely backing up David Martino (4-4, 4 KOs). The stoppage win came at the 2:40 mark of the second round.

Hernandez threw a high volume of punches that immediately put Martino on the defensive. In the second, Hernandez stepped on the gas and fired a variety of punches from every angle imaginable to stun and stop Martino.

Lightweight prospect Ruben Torres (3-0, 3 KOs) of Los Angeles made it three straight first round knockout wins to begin his professional career. Trained by the well-respected Danny Zamora, Torres jumped on Alejandro Zepeda (0-3) from the start.

It didn’t take long for Torres to land his strong right hand. He connected early, knocking out Zepeda at the :42 mark. Torres boasts natural boxing ability and his tall frame (6’0″) should allow him to box effectively in multiple divisions.

In a battle of unbeaten prospects, it was Jonah Flores (2-0) that stood out and dominated Ivan Martino (1-1, 1 KO) to the tune of a unanimous decision sweep (40-36). Flores, out of Riverside, Calif. and trained by Henry Ramirez, showed a solid skill set in picking apart the active Martino.

Flores displayed a high guard and accurate punching throughout the 4-round fight.

After a four-year layoff, junior welterweight Luis Zarazua (7-0-1, 4 KOs) returned in thrilling fashion in the “New Blood” show opener by punching out the overmatched Luis Silva (4-12, 2 KOs) in the first round (2:43).

Midway through the first stanza, Zarazua dropped Silva with a left hook to the body. Zarazua, who fights out of Edinburg, Tex., continued to push the tempo and landed a combination that floored Silva for the final time near the end of the round.

“New Blood” was presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Lucas Oil, in association with Everlast.

Melindo, – Taguchi set for junior flyweight unification fight on Dec. 31

Milan Melindo and Ryoichi Tagauchi will engage on an 108 pound unification bout on December 31st in Tokyo, Japan, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“I have waited for this, and finally it’s here,” Melindo said at his news conference. “I am confident as always. I love fighting in Japan, and I am excited to face their champion. I recovered and rested well after my battle with Budler. I believed my training will be enough for this one.”

“This is something big not only for ALA Promotions but for Philippine boxing,” ALA promotions’ Michael Aldeguer said. “The Japanese boxers are dominating the boxing scene in the small weight divisions right now, and it is a great challenge for Milan to put them on notice.”

Lomachenko – Rigondeaux to have 2nd day weigh in clause

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, the December 9th bout between Vasul Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux will have a 2nd day weigh in clause.

Neither fighter will be allowed to blow up to more than 138 pounds immediately after the weigh-in, because at 9 a.m. on the day of the fight there will be a weight check, Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti told ESPN.

“Rigondeaux’s team broached the subject when we were negotiating the fight, so we went to Lomachenko and [manager] Egis [Klimas] with it,” Moretti said. “Lomachenko and Egis said they had no problem with it, so it’s in the contract.”

“It was one of the original negotiating points, and we had no problem with it,” Moretti said. “I don’t think there will be that big of a difference when they stand next to each other in the ring. There isn’t a big physical size difference between them, and Lomachenko doesn’t put on a lot of weight after the weigh-in anyway. Size is not what will determine the outcome of this fight.

“If the weight check was something that helped make the fight, which it did, then why not when it wasn’t a big problem? It showed just how much ‘Loma’ really wanted this fight.”

The 28-year-old Rene Alvarado will look to continue his three-fight winning streak as he performs for the fifth time in 2017.

“Rene Alvarado rocked Yuriorkis Gamboa and with the style of Denis Shafikov this could very well be the best fight of the night,” said Abel Sanchez.

Following a hotly contested decision loss to former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa on March 11, 2017, Alvarado has run off a string of impressive victories over Moises Olivas, Roger Gutierrez and David Morales.

The main event will see PATRICK DAY (14-2-1, 6 KOs), of Freeport, NY, defending his WBC Continental Americas title against Toledo, Ohio’s WESLEY “King Wes” TUCKER (14-1, 8 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight clash.

Trained by Joe Higgins, the 25-year-old Day is riding a three-bout winning streak, including decision victories against Courtney Pennington and Virgilijus Stapulionis. Most recently, Day captured the WBC Continental Americas junior middleweight title with a dominant 10-round unanimous decision against previously undefeated Eric Walker on July 15, at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, near his home in Long Island, NY.

The southpaw Tucker, a 2012 National Golden Gloves runner-up with 250 amateur bouts of experience, earned a significant victory on Showtime’s ShoBox series against Edward Williams in March, but then suffered the first loss of his five-year professional career in his last bout to the undefeated Enver Halili on June 30, in Toledo, OH. Tucker, who is promoted by Salita Promotions and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, will make his New York debut on December 14.

Former WBC world lightweight champion DEJAN “Dynamite” ZLATICANIN (22-1, 15 KOs) will return to action in a scheduled 10-rounder. The heavy-handed Zlaticanin, who was the first native of Montenegro to win a boxing world title, suffered his only defeat in his last bout against current champion Mikey Garcia on January 28, 2017, in Las Vegas.

In a sensational battle of undefeated lightweights, Albany, New York’s “Ill” WILL MADERA (11-0, 5 KOs), squares off against WESLEY “El Bongocero” FERRER (12-0, 7 KOs), of Brooklyn, New York. The 26-year-old Madera, co-promoted by DiBella Entertainemnt and Liveco Boxing, will be making his fourth start of 2017. Fighting seven times in the Montreal area over a three-year period, Madera returned to the United States in his last fight, earning an eight-round unanimous decision against Gabriel Duluc on September 23, 2017, in Schenectady, New York. In addition to his boxing career, Madera, a father of six, works as a residential counselor at the Center for Disability Services in Albany. Managed by Tommy Gallagher, Ferrer will be fighting for the first time in 2017, following two knockout victories versus Luis Alberto Pelayo and Angel Figueroa in 2016.

Fast-rising heavyweight prospect GEORGE ARIAS (9-0, 5 KOs), of The Bronx, New York, will clash with upset-minded CURTIS HARPER (13-5, 9 KOs), of Jacksonville, FL. A native of the Dominican Republic, the 25-year-old Arias has shined brightly throughout his four victories in 2017, the two most recent taking place at Barclays Center. Trained and managed by Leon Washington Jr. and advised by Andre Rozier, Arias knocked out then-undefeated Elder Hernandez in the fourth round on July 29, and followed up with a fifth-round stoppage of Mario Heredia, on October 14. The battle-tested Harper has faced numerous heavyweight contenders, including former world title challengers Gerald Washington and Chris Arreola over his seven-year professional career.

Undefeated junior middleweight prospects will collide in a scheduled six-rounder, as Brooklyn’s HURSHIDBEK NORMATOV (4-0, 2 KOs) battles heavy-handed Puerto Rican NICKLAUS FLAZ (5-0, 4 KOs). A native of Uzbekistan, the 25-year old Normatov has quickly impressed fight fans in the United States, where all four of his professional bouts have taken place. Trained by Andre Rozier and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, Normatov returns to the ring following a first-round knockout of Bruce Lutchmedial on October 28, at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Fighting on the same card, the 22-year-old Flaz, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, won a dominant six-round unanimous decision versus Elie Augustama. Both Normatov and Flaz were highly touted amateurs, with Normatov competing in 324 bouts, winning the 2014 European National Championships, and Flaz compiling an 88-7 record, becoming a three-time National champion.

Junior middleweight prospect JOSE “Cheito” ROMAN (4-0, 3 KOs), of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, will appear in a scheduled four-rounder. Just 23 years old, Roman, managed by Ricardo Figueroa, won the first three bouts of his professional career by knockout and most recently won a four-round decision versus William Hill on June 3, 2017, in his US debut at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Before turning pro last year, Roman amassed a stellar amateur record of 124-17 and was a three-time National champion.

Rounding out the card, the popular “Lethal” LARRY FRYERS (5-0, 2 KOs), co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Liveco Boxing and managed by Bob Miller, will compete in a four-round welterweight clash. A native of Clones, Ireland, Fryers began boxing at 10 years old at his father’s gym, and turned pro in August 2016.

Former World Champion Jessie Vargas Returns To Take On Aaron Herrera in Welterweight Clash on Special Friday Night Edition of Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 & BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes December 15 from Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster, Calif.

LANCASTER, CA. – (November 17, 2017) – Former welterweight champion Jessie Vargas returns to the ring to take on hard-hitting veteran Aaron Herrera in the 10-round main event of a special Friday night edition of Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes December 15 from Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster, California with televised coverage starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Promoted by TGB Promotions, the show will also feature a 10-round welterweight showdown between rugged veteran Diego Chaves and rising contender Jamal James in the co-main event. Additional televised action will see hard hitters John Molina Jr. and Ivan Redkach squaring off in 10-rounds of super lightweight action and unbeaten featherweight prospects Stephen Fulton (11-0, 5 KOs) and Adam Lopez (8-0, 3 KOs) battling in an eight-round match.

“This is one of those high energy shows that promises action from top to bottom. Jesse Vargas is one of the toughest welterweights in the sport. He always comes to fight and doesn’t disappoint,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “His match against Herrera should provide the kind of action and entertainment that his fans have come to expect from him. Jamal James is stepping up to another level and will be tested by Diego Chaves, a rugged veteran who has been in against some of the best in the division. And you know that Molina and Redkach are going to trade shots. It promises to be entertaining for the fans at Pioneer Event Center and those tuned in on FS1 and FOX Deportes.”

Tickets for the live event begin at $30 and are on sale now. To purchase tickets visit the Pioneer Event Center’s website: www.uavpec.com.

Vargas (27-2, 10 KOs) is returning to the ring for the first time in 13 months after dropping a 12-round decision in a welterweight title defense against Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 5, 2016. The 28-year-old Vargas, who was born in Los Angeles and now lives in Las Vegas, won the welterweight title with a technical knockout victory over Sadam Ali on March 5, 2016. His only other loss came against former welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and he owns victories over the likes of Antonio DeMarco, Josesito Lopez, Aron Martinez and Wale Omotoso.

“Every fighter is dangerous and if I give Herrera the chance, he’ll knock my head off,” said Vargas. “But I come into every fight with bad intentions and I’m in a position where I know exactly what it takes to get where I want to go. I have a lot of opportunities ahead of me, but first, I have to show the fans that I’m back and look exciting while doing that. Herrera is going to give me his best, but I feel that I have the speed, the experience and the game plan to overcome anything he brings to the table.”

Herrera (33-7-1, 22 KOs) has already fought four times in 2017 including his most recent outing, a stoppage of Israel Toala in July. The 28-year-old from Merida, Yucatan, Mexico lost to Brandon Rios via knockout on June 11 in a FS1 and FOX Deportes main event at Pioneer Events Center, where he will face Vargas.

“I’m going against a really good fighter, but he doesn’t punch very hard,” said Herrera. “I will go bombs away from the first round. He can’t hurt me. I’m confident I will win this fight. This is a great opportunity for me. I’ve got to start faster than I did against Brandon Rios and I can’t take anything for granted. The fans will get a great fight and definitely be winners on fight night.”

Chaves (26-2-1, 22 KOs) is a tough veteran who has faced some of this generation’s best welterweights, including current unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman. The 31-year-old from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has won three straight fights since battling to a draw against former welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in 2014 including his most recent triumph, a knockout victory over Jean Carlos Prada on June 17.

James (21-1, 9 KOs) is on the comeback trail after suffering the first loss of his career to Yordenis Ugas via unanimous decision on Aug. 12, 2016. The 29-year-old James of Minneapolis, Minnesota bounced back from that loss with a unanimous decision victory over Jo Jo Dan on July 15. James has fought on FS1 and FOX Deportes his last four times in the ring and has recorded three wins in that stretch. Chaves represents a major challenge for James in his attempt to climb the welterweight ladder as he looks to add another name to his list of victories that includes Wale Omotoso, Javier Molina and Juan Carlo Abreu.

Redkach (20-3-1, 16 KOs) and Molina (29-7, 23 KOs) are both coming off losses and will look to go through each other to regain top contender status. The 31-year-old Redkach, who was born in Ukraine and now lives in Los Angeles, is coming off a split decision loss in a FS1 and FOX Deportes main event to Argenis Mendez in his last fight on May 2. Molina, 34, had one of the best performance of his career in June 2016 when he defeated Ruslan Provodnikov by unanimous decision. The Covina, Calif. native earned a shot at Terrence Crawford in December that saw him lose by TKO in the eighth round.

De Alba and Najera were originally supposed to get together earlier this year, but Najera had to pull out.

Hopefully a win will get me a shot at one of those major regional titles and then eventually a world title. I just hope everyone comes out and support this show on Tuesday. Everyone knows when a Puerto Rican fighter and a Mexican fighter get together, the fight usually produces fireworks and Tuesday night should be no different.”

In the eight-round co-feature, undefeated Mykal Fox (14-0, 4 KOs) of Forestville, MD takes on Manuel Reyes (11-3-1, 5 KOs) of Los Angeles in a junior welterweight bout.

UNDEFEATED MAX “BABYFACEASSASSIAN” ORNELAS HEADLINES IN SLOAN, IA, NOVEMBER 17TH AS THE MAIN EVENT ON beIN SPORTS

Sloan, IA (November 10, 2017) – Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions, along with WinnaVegas Casino Resort are set to bring hometown heroes and skilled warriors for an action packed card on November 10, 2017. The highly anticipated event will air live on beIN SPORTS (9 p.m. CT / 10 p.m ET) from inside the beautiful WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, IA.

Undefeated, 19 year old Max “The Baby Face Assassin” Ornelas (9-0) is considered by many to be a blue chip prospect in the sport of boxing at the 118lbs (bantamweight) division. Ornelas is also enrolled full time at The University of Las Vegas (UNLV) and was last seen back in July when he defeated
the previously unbeaten Leopoldo Matinez (6-1) from Laredo Texas by way of a 5th round TKO in Arizona.

“Roy Jones Jr. and I are honored to be a part of the Winnavegas Casino Resort team.” stated Keith Veltre, CEO and Co-Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions. “My team has been welcomed with open arms from the staff and we could not be more excited to showcase our talent in Iowa. It is always exciting to give the fight fans, not only a stellar fight card, but as well to bring them the one and only Roy Jones Jr. himself.”

“On behalf of Winnavegas Casino Resort I am really looking forward to this show and working with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions and as always Ringside Ticket Inc.” stated Mayan Beltran GM of Winnavegas Casino Resort “Of course, we are anxious to meet Roy Jones Jr. and have him as the guest star at the event.”

Ornelas is taking a huge leap in competition as he takes on the WBA #14 contender and
reigning WBA Pan-African Champion Nick Otieno (31-11) from Kenya Africa in a 10rd main event.
Just to show the vast discrepancy in experience, Otieno has more bouts (42) fought in his professional
career than Ornelas has rounds fought (34) not to mention the quarter of a century age gap (19 and 44).

Otieno who in his last fight defeated Haji Juma (17-9) in Kenya for the vacant WBA
Pan-African Championship will be making his USA debut when he takes on Ornelas on Friday
November 17 at the WinnaVegas Casino Resort. Otieno has won 10 out of his last 12 and has never been stopped or even knocked down. Nick will definitely pose the biggest and most difficult test in the young career of Ornelas. On
the other hand, a victory over Otieno will be a huge accomplishment for Max and definitely solidify his place among the Bantamweight ranks.

” I am thrilled to be working with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions and having the legendary Roy Jones Jr. appear at the WinnaVegas Casino Resort on November 17th.” stated Patrick Ortiz CEO of Ring Side Inc “Fight fans will get to see a great fight card and meet the Roy Jones Jr. in person…….now that is a night of boxing fans do not want to miss.”

The Co-feature bout will showcase Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions Randy Moreno (10-1)
from Las Vegas, NV. Moreno is riding a two fight winning streak since
suffering an extremely controversial TKO loss back in March 2017. Moreno recently defeated
Raul Chirino (12- 7) by TKO2 on October 19 in Las Vegas on ESPN3. Like Ornelas, who just so happens
to be Moreno’s good friend and training partner will be taking a huge step in class in his
professional career as he takes on Fatiou Fassinou (28-7).

Fassinou will provide the toughest test for the young Roy Jones Jr. Boxing prospect. Fatiou
was the former WBC International Champion and like Otieno has more bouts (38) than
Moreno does rounds (33). Fassinou is coming off a close decision loss to undefeated Brandon Figueroa (14-0) back on
July 15 in New York.

Boxing Legend and future first ballot Hall of Famer, Roy Jones Jr will be in attendance to
watch all the festivities.

Sean Wheelock, Jim Greishbar and Patrick Ortiz will call the action live from ringside, while the undercard will be visible to the public starting at 7:30 PM CT on http://@FaceFIGHTNIGHTLIVE
Additional fights will soon be announced. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $60.00 ringside, $40.00 VIP Reserved ringside, $25.00 and $10.00 general admission, are on sale at http://www.winnavegas.com. Taxes and fees apply to all sold tickets.

FRAMPTON READY TO END 2017 IN STYLE ON BOXNATION BEFORE TRILOGY SHOWDOWN WITH MEXICAN RIVAL SANTA CRUZ

LONDON (17 November) – Carl Frampton is hoping to end 2017 on a high as he eyes a trilogy fight with rival Leo Santa Cruz.

The Belfast boxer has endured a tough year having lost his WBA world title in his January rematch with the three-weight world champion, before splitting with his long-time training and promotional team.

Now the 30-year-old takes on the tough Horacio Garcia in his comeback fight this Saturday, live on BoxNation, and is refusing to overlook the fierce Mexican despite having hopes of sharing the ring with his countryman Santa Cruz once again.

“The Leo Santa Cruz fight is the one fight that I want but at the moment the only guy I am thinking about is Horacio Garcia,” said Frampton.

“He’s a very good fighter. He’s a stereotypical Mexican fighter – he comes forward, is aggressive, punches hard and takes a good shot. He’s got a good team – he’s with Canelo Alvarez’s people. I think they’re expecting him to put in a good performance.

“He’s the only man on my mind at the minute but there are some big fights out there which excite me. Santa Cruz is number one but there is Josh Warrington and Lee Selby also – but we can look at all that after Saturday night,” he said.

‘The Jackal’ insists he is back to his best and will be looking to impress in front of his passionate Belfast fans, on a card that will also see another local Jamie Conlan take on Filipino Jerwin Ancajas for the IBF super-flyweight world title.

“I’m really pleased to be back home again. It’s a brilliant card to be fighting on, let alone headlining. I feel good and am looking forward to putting in a great performance,” said Frampton.

“There is a spring in my step. I’m in a good place right now and the best is yet to come. I know I can beat any featherweight in the world on my day and that I can become a world champion again.

“It’s going to be a cauldron-like atmosphere in The SSE Arena on Saturday. It can hold 9,000 but it sounds more like 30,000. It is the best atmosphere in world boxing. I have won all my fights there by knockout and I hope to do the same again this time around,” he said.

27-year-old Garcia has shared the ring with some tough opponents already including Joseph Diaz and Fernando Vargas.

He now steps in against a heavy favourite in Frampton but will have the support of pound-for-pound ace Canelo Alvarez who will be ringside to cheer on his stablemate.

“Having Canelo supporting me is great motivation for me. We started out together and have seen each other climb up. It’s very important to me that he is coming out to watch my fight because that will help me,” said Garcia.

“I’m going to leave everything in the ring and it will be a great fight. Carl is a great fighter. He’s been in the sport for a long time. To beat him will put me on top of the rankings and people will remember me as one of the guys who beat Carl Frampton,” he said.

South African star Zolani Tete will also feature on the night as he defends his WBO bantamweight world title against Siboniso Gonya, with flyweight ace Paddy Barnes fighting on home soil against experienced Nicaraguan Eliecer Quezada.

BoxNation’s live coverage will start from 7.25pm this Saturday night.

LIVE BOXING: THOMPSON BOXING

Lightweight prospect Thomas Mattice stops Orlando Rizo in 7

Nutley, NJ (November 17, 2017)–This past Saturday night, lightweight prospect Thomas Mattice remained undefeated by stopping grizzled veteran Orlando Rizo in round seven of their scheduled eight-round bout at the Atrium Arena in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Mattice is promoted by GH3 Promotions.

Mattice of Cleveland, Ohio improved his mark to 10-0 with eight knockouts.

The 27 year-old Mattice took out a veteran who has been in the ring with several world champions and contenders.

“I feel good. He was a tough veteran, but I caught him with some good shots, and as veterans do, he kept on coming, but I kept on landing and eventually got him out of their,”said Mattice.

Mattice is developing into a young veteran, as he went in there with a good idea of what he wanted to do.

“I learned a lot in that fight. I took my time, and worked off the jab. I picked my shots and was not in a rush. I started to work the body and eventually broke him.”

Even though there is only six weeks left in the year, Mattice would not mind getting in another fight before the calendar changes to 2018.

“I may try to sneak one more in before the end of the year. If not, I will be back in there in January or early February. 2018 is going to be a big year for. I can see myself being ranked across the board by this time next year as I want to go from a prospect to a contender. This was a great fight for me, but expect to see me in bigger fights in 2018.”

His promoter Vito Mielncki of GH3 Promotions is on the same page as the three-year veteran, Mattice.

“That was a quality win over Rizo. Rizo is a guy who is a veteran who has faced everybody. That is 4 straight knockouts for Thomas and now he is coming into his power. He is really developing and I can see some great things for him as we look towards 2018.”
