Dmitry Bivol: Light Heavyweight is the Division to Watch WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion to Make First Title Defense on HBO Boxing After Dark®

Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo: WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol (11-0, 9 KOs) is slated to defend his title against Trent Broadhurst (20-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday in Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo and live on HBO Boxing After Dark® at 5:45 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT). The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds and will be Bivol’s first title defense as WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion.

With an 81% knockout-to-win ratio (9 KOs in 11 wins) and newly crowned the WBA’s light heavyweight world champion, the 26-year-old Bivol rocketed to the top of the light heavyweight division in 2017. However, as Bivol explains, he did not go in looking for the knockout, “I never think about the knockout before the fight. I don’t think, ‘Oh I have to go knock this guy out.’ But when I get in the ring, of course, I want to do my best and I want to make my fans happy with a good fight. First, I think about how can I give him more punches and then I think about how I can avoid more punches.”

The winner of this championship bout will have a mandatory defense due next. The top-ranked contender is Sullivan Barrera, who is scheduled to fight Felix Valera on Saturday, November 25 as the co-feature on the Sergey Kovalev vs. Vyacheslav Shabranskyy World Championship Boxing telecast.

Bivol believes Barrera will win and the two will meet up in early 2018. He is eager to face Barrera and has watched his career closely: “I must do mandatory defense for WBA for next fight,” said Bivol. “Barrera is ranked second and I want the fight with the best guys in the WBA rankings, so I want to fight him next. I watched Barrera’s fights with Shabranskyy, Andre Ward and Joe Smith Jr. He is good boxer. He has good speed. Good Skills. Good moves. I want to fight with the best fighters.”

With all of this action in his division, the young champion sees light heavyweight as the division to watch. Bivol explained, “Pay attention to my division because now I think a lot of young stars are coming up. Watch the boxing in light heavyweight division and, of course, watch my fight.”

According to Bivol’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, “We are glad that Dmitry’s first defense of his world title will happen in Monaco and we are looking forward to a great event. We appreciate HBO giving us the opportunity to air this fight in the United States.”
Bivol vs. Broadhurst is a 12-round bout for the WBO Light Heavyweight Title at Casino de Monte Carlo in Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo and televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5:45 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT), coupled with a primetime evening replay at 9:45 p.m. (ET/PT).

WBC RULING REGARDING LUIS NERY ISSUED BY WBC BOARD OF GOVERNORS

I. BACKGROUND
In October of 2016, Luis Nery enrolled in the WBC Clean Boxing Program’s (“CBP”) out-of-competition anti-doping testing by virtue of being rated in the top 15 in the bantamweight division of the WBC world ratings.

On August 22, 2017, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reported to the WBC that Mr. Nery’s “A” sample collected on July 27, 2017 in Tijuana, Mexico, yielded adverse analytical findings for Zilpaterol (the “Finding”). [1] The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) includes Zilpaterol its list of banned substances, which list VADA uses as reference, thus making Zilpaterol banned under the WBC Clean Boxing Program in which Mr. Nery is enrolled. Mr. Nery did not request analysis of the corresponding “B” sample.

The WBC undertook an investigation of the circumstances surrounding the Finding pursuant to the governing WBC Rules & Regulations and WBC CBP Protocol. The WBC, through Mr. Nery’s promoter, Promociones Zanfer, requested that Mr. Nery provide a formal thorough written submission from including information, schedules, activities and materials related to the circumstances that resulted in the adverse finding. Mr. Nery provided a sworn statement representing to the WBC that he had ingested substantial amounts of beef and beef consommé daily as part of his dietary/training regime in Mexico during several weeks preceding the adverse finding which was from a sample taken in Tijuana where he based his training camp. Mr. Nery and his camp have emphatically denied taking any performance enhancing drugs or any banned substance.

The WBC also contacted WADA to obtain additional information about Zilpaterol and WADA never responded to the WBC’s inquiries.

II. WBC’S FINDINGS
Based on the information available to the WBC, the WBC finds as follows:

1. Luis Nery is enrolled in the WBC CBP by virtue of being rated among the top 15 boxers in the WBC Bantamweight world ratings.

2. The anti-doping test of sample collected in Tijuana, Mexico from Mr. Nery on July 27, 2017, yielded adverse analytical findings for Zilpaterol.

3. Zilpaterol is a banned substance under the WBC CPB by virtue of its inclusion in WADA’s List of Banned Substances which VADA uses as its reference.

4. Mr. Nery’s positive test took place as part of the out-of-competition portion of the WBC CBP, during the contract process for the Yamanaka vs. Nery fight, with out of competition and after the fight testing being in place.

5. To the best of the WBC’s knowledge, Mr. Nery has never tested positive for any banned substance in any tests he has undergone during his boxing career, and has tested negative in the WBC fights he has competed in. Mr. Nery is an undefeated boxer in 24 bouts, he is the former WBC Continental Americas and Silver champion and presently holds the WBC Bantamweight World Championship. Mr. Nery has been tested 4 times during his enrollment in the WBC CBP.

6. Mr. Nery was tested 3 times after producing the sample that resulted in the Finding and those additional tests have been negative, all three tests were taken in Japan.

7. The WBC received the following information and materials which constitute extenuating circumstances: (1) the representation from Mr. Nery and his promoters that he ingested substantial amounts of beef and beef consommé daily as part of his dietary/training regime in Mexico during several weeks preceding the Finding.; (2) a showing that governmental agencies from several countries, including the Mexican National Sports Ministry, view Zilpaterol akin to Clenbuterol, which, has also been found as a beef contaminant and has been detected in many athletes that reside, or have trained, in places like Mexico, where both Zilpaterol and Clenbuterol appear to be used fairly liberally; and (3) the specific concerns about Clembuterol and Zilpaterol as a beef contaminant have led to the design of specific protocols by authorities in several countries, including Mexico, to deal with beef contaminated with those substances; (4) the WBC, via the direct intervention of its President, Mauricio Sulaiman, consulted with the Health Ministry of Mexico as well as with the Sports Ministry about this specific case to get in depth information about meat contamination from those two substances and its relationship with doping findings in sports.

8. The WBC dealt with an adverse finding for Clembuterol in another WBC World Championship fight (Vargas v. Salido), which finding resulted from a sample collected several weeks before the fight. In that case, the WBC found that the fighter in question (Vargas) tested positive for that substance due to ingestion of contaminated beef and beef products in Mexico. The WBC’s ruling in that case subjected the fighter to a strict pre-fight testing regime. All subsequent tests were negative and the fight took place without any incident.

9. The Adverse finding notification was reported several days after the fight took place, so in fact the event took place.
III. WBC BOARD OF GOVERNOR’S RULING
The present WBC Board of Governor’s ruling is based on the facts as known to the WBC at the time of the ruling and on any extenuating circumstances as set forth above.

Based on the Findings in Mr. Nery’s “A” July 27, 2017, sample, and taking into account all factors set forth above, including any extenuating circumstances, the WBC has ruled as follows:

1. Based on the evidence the WBC examined concerning this matter, the WBC cannot make a determination with sufficient certainty as to whether Mr. Nery’s adverse finding was the result of intentional ingestion of a banned substance to improve performance. All information and facts lead to conclude that the adverse finding was due to consumption of contaminated food products;

2. The WBC hereby orders an immediate rematch between Mr. Nery and Shinsuke Yamanaka, which details shall be governed by the immediate rematch provisions of the WBC Rules & Regulations;

3. Mr. Nery shall be subjected to a strict dietary regime supervised by Dr. Philip Goglia, Chairman of the WBC Nutrition Committee, at Mr. Nery`s sole cost and expense;

4. VADA, pursuant to the WBC CBP, shall design a specific random testing protocol for Mr. Nery at his own cost and expense. The VADA-designed protocol shall commence as soon as feasible after this ruling and shall continue for six-months thereafter, or up to the date of the Immediate Rematch, whichever time is longer; and

5. While the WBC continues to investigate the effect of contaminated beef products in tests’ results obtained pursuant to the WBC CBP, the WBC will make a formal request to WADA and VADA to establish specific measures and protocols to address Clembuterol and Zilpaterol.
___________________________

[1] VADA reported the Finding to the WBC after Mr. Nery’s August 15, 2017, fight for the WBC World Bantamweight Title against Shinsuke Yamanaka had already taken place.

The WBC is currently working with the Mexican health authorities addressing the contamination of beef products and the effect that such contamination is having on anti-doping testing results and programs, specifically the WBC CBP.

SELINA “AZTEC QUEEN” BARRIOS ASSEMBLES DYNAMIC TEAM

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 31, 2017) – After two pro fights, super-lightweight female sensation, Selina “Aztec Queen” Barrios (2-0, 1 KO), who hails from San Antonio, TX, has assembled a dynamic team to help guide her the pinnacle of women’s boxing.

Dr. Charles Campbell and his son Colin Campbell from Corpus Christi, TX, will co-manage Selina Barrios. Colin will handle the day to day operations, while Dr. Charles will help guide her career as a boxer, and personal pursuits in her professional life.

“My son Colin and I are very excited to be working with such a talented fighter like Selina Barrios.” said Dr. Charles Campbell. “Selina has the one element in boxing that all fans want to see, and that’s punching power. In addition, Selina has the mindset you look for in a fighter. The fact that she’s willing to fight a standout amateur like Zarina Tsoloyeva, in only her third pro fight, says it all.”

“Selina is the type of fighter that everyone in boxing should rally behind,” Colin Campbell stated. “She’s overcome a lot of adversity to get where she’s at today, and the girl can fight. She’s certainly more exciting then most of the male boxers we see on TV today. Selina was born to be on the big stage, and with her fighting style, she will become a fan favorite as soon as they see her fight.”

Kerry Daigle, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who runs Keeppunching Entertainment, will stay on has Barrios’ advisor / consultant, and aid in getting Selina in the biggest fights that women’s boxing can provide.

“Several promoters are seeking to work with Keeppunching Entertainment and Selina Barrios because she might be the most TV friendly female fighter in 20 years, with the opportunity to sell out venues, even better then male counterparts.” said Kerry Daigle.

Selina’s step dad Martin Barrios, who has been in her corner since she was a top amateur, will serve as the chief trainer. He played a significant role in helping Selina acquire an astonishing amateur record of (80-3), in addition to her sustaining an undefeated record as a pro.

“Selina is a tremendous fighter with the punching power to change a fight with one shot.” Martin Barrios stated. “I’m not just saying that because she’s my daughter, I’ve seen her destroy folks in the gym. I’m super happy that I was able to get Mr. Dailge to believe in Selina. I know with his connections and Selina’s talent, we as a team, can do something special in women’s boxing.

Rick Nunez, will oblige as the assistant trainer. Nunez, from San Antonio, TX, has worked side by side with Martin, helping Selina become one of the most dangerous fighters in women’s boxing.

“With women’s boxing on the rise, Selina now has everything set in place to become a big star in the sport,” Rick Nunez stated. “You need a solid team behind you to make it in boxing, and that’s exactly what we have now moving forward.”

Maurice “Termite” Watkins from Houston, TX, and Ben Flores, of Corpus Christi, TX, will share duties as camp coordinators to the trainers. Watkins, who fought in the lightweight division as a professional in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, had a spectacular record of (61-5-1, 42 KOs).

Selina’s younger brother, undefeated super-lightweight contender, Mario Barrios (20-0, 12 KOs), has been in awe of his sister since she was as dominate amateur.

“Growing up, my sister was the best fighter in every tournament we entered.” said Mario Barrios. “She literally wrecked everyone in her weight class. It wasn’t until I was a late teen that I was able to hang with her. I love my sister and I know with the powerful team that she has behind her now, she can become a world champion.”

Ann Wolfe, who was one of the most devastating punchers in women’s boxing history, has been a big fan of Selina since her days as a dominate amateur. Wolf has seen Selina destroy her competition while fighting in the amateurs.

“Selina Barrios is a beast,” said former world champion Ann Wolf. “I haven’t seen anything like her since my days as a professional boxer. She definitely has the talent to become a multiple world champion.”

“I’m looking forward toward a great career, that I hope will last many years,” said Selina Barrios. “I have a great team behind me now, I know if I put in the hard work, everything will work out, and my dreams will come true.”

QUIGG: WORLD TITLES ARE NEXT – BUT MONTE-CARLO IS TOUGH TEST

FRAMPTON-QUIGG IBF/WBA SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT UNIFICATION TITLE FIGHT
WEIGH IN
MANCHESTER ARENA,MANCHESTER
PIC;LAWRENCE LUSTIG
IBF CHAMPION CARL FRAMPTON AND WBA CHAMPION SCOTT QUIGG WEIGH IN

Scott Quigg believes he can become a two-weight World champion in 2018 – but says he’s prepared for a hard night’s work on Saturday when he faces Oleg Yefimovych in a eliminator for the WBA World Bantamweight title in Monte-Carlo, live on Sky Sports.

Quigg held the WBA Bantamweight crown over six fights before losing out to Belfast rival Carl Frampton and the 29 year old has since moved to Los Angeles to team up with legendary trainer Freddie Roach, landing their first win together in April against Viorel Simion at Wembley Stadium.

Quigg is honing his skills in the Wild Card Gym with the hall of fame coach and they were ringside when WBA Super king Leo Santa Cruz and regular champion Abner Mares were in action in California two weeks ago, where both men won via stoppage.

Yefimovych is ranked at number four in the WBA so a win for Quigg puts him right in the mix for a World title clash in 2018 – and with the stakes high, Quigg knows it’s going to be a hard night’s work.

“I’m expecting a tough fight from Oleg,” said Quigg. “I know I’ve got a tough fight in front of me but it’s one I’m very confident in with the work I’m putting in and how I’m looking in the gym. Oleg’s highly ranked in the WBA so it’s going to shoot me right up there. I’ve never boxed in Monte Carlo so it’s another new experience and one I am looking forward to.

“The fights I want are Abner Mares, Santa Cruz. I believe they’re going to be fighting early March or sometime in April, I’d love the winner of that. I want to be involved in big fights, like the big fight with Carl Frampton.”

A rematch with Frampton is a fight that Quigg would also love, and like Quigg, ‘The Jackal’ has recently made a training switch from Shane McGuigan to Jamie Moore.

“I made some big changes,” said Quigg. “I needed to make them big changes and I felt the benefits of it.

“It’s good to have something different, Freddie has unrivalled experience and teaming up with him was only ever going to improve me. I’ve been getting back to my boxing with Freddie, getting behind the jab and simplifying things. It’s all been about letting my skills flow and not smothering my work, and that will let my natural power work. I’ve been learning every day and most importantly, I’m happy.

“I have no doubt Carl will be the same. He’s been with the McGuigans for a long time and sometimes you just need a change.

“I do think the change will benefit him, it will do him good. The main thing is you’ve got to enjoy training. If you’re not enjoying it, you might as well walk away.

“He’s changed his trainer, he’s changed his team, and it might give him that spark back that he was lacking.

“I came up short but I believe I’ve made massive improvements already, learned from that. Those are the fights I want to be involved in. Anybody who’s got a World title at 126lbs, they are the fights I want to be involved in.

“I believe I can beat him, so I would love that fight, but there is Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Oscar Valdez, Lee Selby. I want to be involved in any of those big fights. On my day, I turn up 100 per cent, I believe I can beat every one of them.

“He’s the only person to beat me, so obviously I want a rematch. If it didn’t happen it would be through no fault of me not wanting it. I want to put the record straight.”

Quigg and Yefimovych clash on a stacked bill in Monte-Carlo topped by a pair of World title battles with Russian destroyer Dmitry Bivol making the first defence of his WBA Light-Heavyweight strap against Australian Trent Broadhurst while Jamie McDonnell and Liborio Solis return to Monte-Carlo for a rematch for McDonnell’s WBA Bantamweight crown and Agit Kabayel defends his European Heavyweight title against Londoner Dereck Chisora.

Victory Sports & Entertainment’s Sonny “Pretty Boy” Fredrickson back in action at the WBA Convention’s Night of Boxing

Medellin, Colombia (October 31, 2017)–Victory Sports & Entertainment’s highly touted Junior Welterweight, Sonny “Pretty Boy” Fredrickson (17-0 11 Kos) will return to the ring tomorrow at the WBA Convention’s boxing card taking place in Medellin, Colombia.

The WBA is hosting its 96th Annual Convention in Medellin, Colombia from October 30 through November 2nd. As it does at every convention, the WBA will be helping to stage a boxing card for all of the boxing luminaries in attendance. As the 9th ranked fighter in the WBA’s Junior Welterweight rankings, the WBA chose Sonny for one of the highly coveted slots. “I am very proud to fight at the WBA’s 96th Convention and feel honored that President Gilberto Mendoza personally chose me to fight on this show,” states Fredrickson. “I hope to one day fight for the WBA World Championship and look forward to putting on a good show in front of all the convention attendees,” Fredrickson continued.

Fredrickson will face undefeated Colombian native Placido Ramirez (10-0, 7 KOs). “I know Ramirez is tough and that he will be looking to represent his country at this fight, but I’ve trained hard. I had a great camp and I am ready for a great fight,” says Fredrickson.

Rick Torres, President of Victory Sports, feels that this fight can provide a springboard to bigger and better things for Fredrickson. “The Junior Welterweight Division is an exciting weight class, and with Terrance Crawford moving up to Welterweight, there are going to be a lot of opportunities for young fighters like Sonny at 140.” We expect Sonny to keep moving up the rankings and hope that he will be in a position to challenge for a world title in 2018. We are very grateful to Gilberto and the WBA for providing this opportunity for Sonny and are certain he will not disappoint” states Torres.

Mike Leanardi, COO of Victory sports, adds “I want to thank Gilberto Mendoza Jr. and the WBA for affording us the opportunity to fight at this year’s convention in Medellin.” He continues, “I have the utmost confidence in Sonny and look forward to him putting on a great performance Wednesday night.”

With the recent addition of former world champion Jose Pedraza, Victory Sports continues to grow its roster and profile in the sport. Having Sonny Fredrickson on the WBA Convention card only helps to solidify their position as an emerging managerial force in boxing.

Founded by noted sports attorney Rick Torres and boxing trainer Mike Leanardi, Victory Sports & Entertainment is an athlete management company with offices in New York and Las Vegas.

WILLIAMS: “MY MOTIVATION IS A MILLION PERCENT HIGHER THIS TIME!”

Liam Williams warns bitter nemesis Liam Smith to prepare for an improved product, both physically and mentally, when they continue their long standing and very public feud at Newcastle’s Metro Arena on November 11th, BT Sport and BoxNation screen live.

In their feisty initial encounter in Manchester last April, the 25-year-old reigning British super-welter king from the Rhondda Valley showed his class to edge ahead on all three cards before his enforced withdrawal, following a butt induced cut after nine rounds.

In defeat, the pride of Clydach Vale was forced to surrender his 17 fight unbeaten record and his dream of lifting the WBO interim title. Nevertheless, he insists the pain was short-lived.

‘I was only down for a couple of days before I gave myself a kick up the arse and started to look to the future,’ says the Gary Lockett coached box-fighter.

‘Obviously it was disappointing to lose my unbeaten record but it’s not as if I took a pasting, got sparked out, or was made a fool of. No one is saying Liam Smith outclassed me.

‘In fact, I took a lot more positives than negatives from the fight. I think I ticked a lot of boxes; I dealt well with the pressure of such a high level promotion and proved my stamina, showed my ability, against a world class fighter, a former world champion.

‘Going in, I thought I was good enough to compete in top class, now I actually know that I am.’

While the judges endorsed the Welshman’s superiority during the 27 minutes that the first encounter lasted, Team Williams have been conscious to guard against any complacency.

‘Trust me, this time, I’m a lot better prepared,’ insists lionheart Liam who has prepped at the Phoenix Gym in Llanrumney.

‘I’ve put myself through enormous sacrifice. Come fight night, I’ll have been at it for 16 weeks and my physique is rock solid. Expect to see me a lot, lot stronger.

‘I’ve cut down on the number of long runs and replaced them with a lot of high intensity 400 metre and 800 metre track work. That’s brought big improvements.

‘I’ve been bang on form in the gym. I’ve sparred a ridiculous number of rounds with some very good champions and, without mentioning names, I’ve been smashing them up. Also, my mind is devoid of the distractions that affected me in the build up to the first fight. I’m far more carefree and focussed, in a very good place mentally.’

Previously revered for his ruggedness and raw power, Williams attracted many new admires for the slick skills and nous which he deployed to coast into a wide early lead on all cards in Manchester. He expects Team Smith to amend their game plan ahead of the re-sit.

‘First fight, it was partly me starting fast, partly him starting slow,’ states Williams.

‘I was very nervous going in but controlled that very well and conserved energy. This time, I expect he’ll come out firing but if he does, he’ll get hit a lot more and might even get put to sleep early!

‘It might be cagey for a round or two but, let’s be realistic here, it’s not going to be a box-off. We’ve both got big points to prove. It won’t be long before it opens up and the biggest winners will be the fans.

‘I was pretty stoked for the first fight but my motivation is a million percent higher this time. I just want to beat Smith up. And when that happens and he comes pleading for a third fight, he can ‘f*** off’! I’ll be heading to the world title.’

Elsewhere on a huge evening of boxing in Newcastle Country Durham’s Thomas Patrick Ward (20-0) will defend his British Super-Bantamweight Championship against Brimingham’s Sean Davis (13-1-0)

Rising Guisborough Super-Lightweight star Josh Leather (12-0) makes the first defence of his IBF European title against Sunderland rival Glenn Foot (21-2).

Ricky Hatton-trained Heavyweight Nathan Gorman (10-0) takes on Mohammed Soltby (13-0) for the Vacant WBC International Heavyweight Championship.

Explosive Super-Middleweight Mark Heffron (Oldham, 16-0) another of Ricky Hatton’s excellent young stable of fighters, takes on former Tommy Langford and Jamie Cox opponent Lewis Taylor (19-4-1); undefeated Jeff Saunders (11-0) of Sedgefield takes on undefeated Liverpudlian Steven Lewis (14-0)

In addition, local prospects Troy Williamson (Darlington, 3-0) Kalam Leather (Guisborough, 2-0) Joe Maphosa (Thornaby, 1-0) and Michael Watson (Sedgefield, Pro debut) will all appear on the bill.

JARELL “Big Baby MILLER and MARUISZ “The Viking” WACH & Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn & Dmitry Salita Discuss Their November 11 Heavyweight Showdown at NYCB LIVE Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Live on HBO

EDDIE HEARN: This big fight on November 11 is very important in the heavyweight division. Jarrell Miller is making big waves is the US right now and of course in the world rankings and Mariusz who has been, for a long time, they come together and they meet in a pivotal clash on November 11. Both guys are looking for a chance at the world title. While this is not an official eliminator for the world title, one thing is for sure, the winner, I believe, will fight for a world title and the loser will not. This is a huge for both of their careers and is part of a huge show with Danny Jacobs headlining against Luis Arias in a great fight and Cletus Seldin against Roberto Ortiz.

DMITRIY SALITA: Jarrell Miller is from Brooklyn, NY and has been moving up the ranks from being an undercard fighter and this is a big stage for him fighting with Danny Jacobs. This is a very serious fight for him and he is in the best shape of his career – the best shape of his life. He understands this is a big opportunity for him and as Eddie mentioned, after this fight he will potentially fight for the world title and be considered as one of the elite heavyweights. Jarrell is following a very rich lineage of Brooklyn heavyweights – Riddick Bowe and Mike Tyson. On November 11 Jarrell Miller will make a name for himself.

MARIUSZ WACH: Training is going very good and I am ready. I am very thankful for HBO for giving me this big opportunity and I will not let my people down and I will put on a great show. You are going to see a lot of motion and a lot of bombs.

JARRELL MILLER: I can tell you that I am boing to bring excitement back to boxing’s heavyweight division and back in the forefront, especially in America. I am happy to be here on a big card in a big way and I am going to put on a big show for the fans. Mariusz Wach had his chance to do what he had to do and he fell short twice and now he is going up against a big strong guy that comes forward and has the highest punch output in boxing. One thing I can tell you is he signed a contract to fight an opponent that he doesn’t think will come at him. This fight he won’t look any better than he did in his last fight. I am the Big Baby, but I am going to give him the pacifier and put him in the crib. November 11 is my debut on HBO and Eddie Hearn is going to see there is a new player in town, and Big Baby in town, and he’s from Brooklyn.

MARIUSZ WACH: That is very good. I hope that you find sparring partners that same as me that you can beat inside the ring in sparring, but they will be different than me. I hope you’re ready when you get inside the ring for this big fight.

JARELL MILLER: It’s always easy to find slow, goofy sparring partners to spar with, but there is nothing like a Big Baby – no one throws as many punches and I knock people out. Trust me, I’m not worried about him I am only worried about me. Nobody throws over 90 punches per round, I do. He’s got losses, I don’t, so don’t worry about it, I’ll make it easy on him and get him out quick..

MARUISZ WACH: I can’t wait, I will see you in the ring on November 11.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of fighting Anthony Joshua and how do you think that fight would go?
JARRELL MILLER: It’s actually a stoke of bad luck on Takem’s part because I feel that Takem is nowhere up to par, that he could do two or three rounds at that. He is too small and doesn’t have enough punching power. He stands kind of straight up but he is the kind of guy that comes forward but I don’t think he has a chance against Anthony Joshua at this point. Like I said before, I was getting ready for a fight and I didn’t get the phone call, but it is what it is and they know what I bring to the table. I don’t know what’s next or who’s next at this point but right now my main focus is on knocking Wach out, whooping his behind then we’ll take it from there.

Eddie, what do you think about the possibility of Miller fighting Joshua?

EDDIE HEARN: Yes, we require as many contenders as possible. Jarrell Miler is making a lot of noise right now and we look for potential opponents for Anthony Joshua, particularly in the United States and Jarrell Miller is at the top of the list. But on November 11 he has a very tough fight against Mariusz Wach, which is an incredible fight. Coming off a win against someone like Mariusz Wach you can start talking about world title shots. I think Jarrell Miller is one of the true heavyweights and I know Anthony rates Jarrell highly and he’d be out for a fight with Jarrell Miller. He’d be one of the perfect guys to come over and take on in the states. Obviously working with Dmitry and Jarrell there is no reason why an Anthony Joshua/Jarrell Miller fight shouldn’t happen but first he has a very tough fight to get thru on November 11.

How are the preparations for the Miller fight?

MARUISZ WACH: Camp is going very well – I have been sparring with Derrick Chisora. I plan to come to the US on November 1 and I will finish up camp there. I know it’s going to be a hard fight and I know we will be attacking each other with bombs. There will be a lot of clinching and a lot of going forward – Big Baby has to come in there and fight and box.

How do you rate yourself being entertaining both in and out of the ring?

JARRELL MILLER: There is nobody more colorful that n in America in boxing right now, especially in the heavyweight division. It is very important you show the fans who you are and what you’re capable of doing, but it’s hard to show who you are unless you have that platform to do it and I definitely feel that HBO is the ones that put their money where their mouth is and they want to come back in a big way to the heavyweight division to find talents and they came to the right guy. I am not out here to prove a point just for myself but I have to put on a show for the fans to show them that American boxing is back and it wasn’t dead it was just taking a nap. With me being the face of it right now is going to be phenomenal and after this fight on November 11, which is going to be another notch in my belt and to let the people know that the heavyweight division is back and Big Baby is here.

DMITRY SALITA: Jarrell Miller is born and raised in Brooklyn and has always talked the talk and walked the walk and has always fought the toughest guys available and on November 11 we will see a new star.

EDDIE HEARN: 100% – personalities make the sport. Characters make the sport and Jarrell Miller is the Big Baby and he does have a big mouth, he’s got a good heart and he’s an ambassador for the sport as well. You know he doesn’t act like a yolk, he’s intelligent and he likes to entertain and that’s what we need in boxing. When you look at the division right now you need, as many characters as possible and Jarrell Miller, if he can fight and we believe he can and we’ll find out more on November 11. He has the potential to be a big star. I think he is great for the sport of boxing and now he is moving up to the elite level and we will find out if he can walk the walk as well as he talks the talk and this is a perfect fight to show that.

Do you feel this will be your toughest fight?

JARRELL MILLER: No (laughing) every day life is tough. Getting in the ring and doing what you do is not tough. I think marriage is more tough for sure. The fans can say what they want and the media can say wheat they want, but what I am capable of doing and Wach is just going to be another guy that I am going to crush. Come November 11 everyone is going to know what I’m capable of doing. I am bringing a whole different kind of Big Baby, a whole different kind of animal, a whole different kind of look. I always beat people on Plan A – I don’t even have to go to Plan B but I am going to pull tricks out of the hat so I can show people what a real heavyweight looks like with the skills I have. Nobody moves like me in the heavyweight division. My ring IQ is definitely unbeatable and on November 11 you are going to see a different style of Big Baby and it’s going to be fun.

Did you notice anything is his last couple fights that showed you advantages you have?

JARRELL MILLER: I loved watching his last fight – it was like reading a bedtime story and by the third-round I was passed out sleeping already so I have ben watching his fights to go to sleep.

EDDIE HEARN: There are other heavyweights out there other than Anthony Joshua – there are two other belts as well. Of course there is Deontay Wilder and there is also Joseph Parker and I believe the winner of this fight will be in an eliminator for the IBF so they will get an opportunity to become mandatory challenger to Joshua as well so you just don’t have to rely on a voluntary shot, you can earn your position as mandatory challenger. As far as Jarrell Miller is concerned, I’m sure Dmitriy and the guys know that the more fights the better in terms of developing his profile. He has a great platform here with HBO to go out and showcase his skills to the people watching throughout America. In the build up to the fight and on fight night people will see his personality and his character will be shown through on that platform in front of a big audience. People will be wanting to watch Big Baby Miller again if he puts on a good performance and the pressure is on. He talks the talk and we believe he will deliver on November 11 and if he does on that platform, in a fight like that, I really feel like it puts him in a great position where outside of the champions, he is one of the top guys and that’s the aim of Dmitriy and their team.

MIAMI – (October 30, 2017) – Unbeaten contender Ahmed Elbiali will take on former world champion Jean Pascal in the 10-round light heavyweight main event of a special Friday night edition of Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes, December 8 from Hialeah Park in Miami, Florida.

Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features former two-time world champion Chad Dawson against hard-hitting contender Edwin Rodriguez in a 10-round bout plus a showdown between unbeaten prospects Austin Dulay (11-0, 8 KOs) and Raynell Williams (12-0, 6 KOs) in eight rounds of lightweight action.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Warriors Boxing, begin at $30 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at www.TicketForce.com or calling (877) 840-0457, and are also available at the casino cage.

“The historic Hialeah Park Racetrack & Casino is a beautiful venue for an old-school crossroads fights like Ahmed Elbiali vs. Jean Pascal and Chad Dawson vs. Edwin Rodriguez,” said Leon Margules, President of Warriors Boxing. “In the main event, the world will be watching to see if the young contender Elbiali will have his day or if the older champion Jean Pascal still has what it takes. With Dawson vs. Rodriguez, it is ‘do or die’ time for both these guys. The winner of this fight will go on to another big opportunity. The loser will have some thinking to do. It’s going to be an outstanding night of fights from top to bottom, at one of the nicest venues for boxing in North America.”

The 27-year-old Elbiali (16-0, 13 KOs) is a powerful 175-pound contender looking to prove he stacks up with the other big punchers in the division. Born in Cairo, Egypt and now living in Miami, he will be fighting before a hometown crowd in a major step up bout against the former 175-pound champion Pascal. Elbiali is coming off a TKO victory against Christopher Brooker in his last fight on July 18 after previously stopping Jackson Junior in March.

“I’m so thankful to everyone who helped me get here and believe in my skills enough to give this opportunity,” said Elbiali. “This is my golden ticket. I’m excited, ready and blessed for this opportunity. Come December 8, it will be fireworks in Miami!”

Pascal (31-5-1, 18 KOs) was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti but now lives in Laval, Quebec, Canada, and won the light heavyweight title with a decision victory over Adrian Diaconu. He went on to make three defenses, including a victory over Chad Dawson, before losing the title to Bernard Hopkins in 2011. The 34-year-old is looking to bounce back from losing a majority decision to Eleider Alvarez in his last fight on June 3.

“This is not only a comeback fight, but I’m ready to battle for my career on December 8,” said Pascal. “They’re trying to give this young guy a test against a former champion and he’s going to try to use me as a ladder to the next level in this sport. I have a dangerous opponent and I’m going to be ready for him. When I fought Bernard Hopkins I was the young lion, now it’s the other way around and I’m going to be ready to show him something he’s never seen before.”

The 35-year-old Dawson (34-5, 19 KOs) is a two-time light heavyweight champion who has been in the ring against some of the best boxers in the division throughout this era. He won the light heavyweight world championship with a unanimous decision victory over Tomasz Adamek in 2007 and lost the title via a technical decision to Jean Pascal in 2010. He regained the belt with a majority decision victory over Bernard Hopkins in 2012 before losing to Andre Ward later that year. Fighting out of New Haven, Connecticut, Dawson is coming off a technical knockout loss to Andrzej Fonfara in his last fight on March 4.

“I know Edwin Rodriguez very well from sparring together in the past,” said Dawson. “We’re both in a position where we really need this win, and that’s going to make this an exciting fight. I’m motivated to do it one more time, and this time, I’m doing it right. I know that he’s strong and aggressive, but I’ve been in fights like this. I’m prepared for that type of intensity level, and I’m ready to go out and enjoy myself. I think my boxing will be the difference in the fight, and that will get me back to where I’ve been in the past.”

Rodriguez (29-2, 20 KOs) has the kind one-punch knockout power that makes him a dangerous opponent against anyone in the division. Rodriguez was born in Moca, Dominican Republic and now lives in Worchester, Mass. while training out of Houston. The 32-year-old lost a unanimous decision to Andre Ward in his biggest bout to date and he most recently scored a technical knockout victory over Melvin Russell on July 18.

“Chad Dawson is a former champion and a great fighter who at one point was looked at as close to being one of the best fighters, pound-for-pound,” said Rodriguez. “He’s had had his share of losses, but he was beating Fonfara in his last fight before being caught and knocked out. It was very important for me to come back and win my last fight by knockout, but an impressive win over a guy of Chad’s caliber will revitalize my career. This is going to be a great fight and I believe I can win by knockout or decision.”

Unbeaten Super-Lightweight Phenom DEVIN “THE DREAM” HANEY Training Camp Quotes

LAS VEGAS, NV (October 30, 2017) – As his November 4th date approaches, unbeaten super-lightweight prospect, 18-year old phenom, Devin “The Dream” Haney (17-0, 11 KOs), shares his thoughts on training camp and more, as he prepares for his fight with Hamza Sempewo (14-8, 7 KOs) of Kampala, Uganda.

Haney vs. Sempewo, an 8-round bout, will take place at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, GA, and serve as the co-main event to heavyweight’s, Devin “The General” Vargas (19-4, 7 KOs) of Toledo, Ohio, vs. Galen “Bad Boy” Brown (44-38-1, 25 KOs) of St. Joseph’s, Missouri.

Here is what Devin Haney, the WBC Youth World Lightweight title holder, had to say ahead of his November 4th showdown:

On his recent training camp in Las Vegas…
“I’m constantly grinding in the gym, trying to get better. No one is working harder than me. I’ve been working closely with “The Body Snatcher” Mike McCallum, and he’s showing me some old veteran tricks. I’ve been sparring with all the top fighters in Las Vegas, getting that good work. I feel strong going into this fight. I’m in great shape.”

On having his father William Haney guiding his career…
“My dad is great and he’s always by my side every step of the way. He comes from the music industry, where he was very successful, so he knows how to build a star. I’m very grateful to have him in my corner. Together we are a force in the boxing world, and I know with hard work, I’ll be the next super-star in boxing.”

On the importance of staying active…
“It’s very important to stay active in boxing, because in this sport, its all about that live action. Fighting with no headgear and smaller gloves is a big difference as opposed to sparring. The more fights I can get under my belt, the better I’ll be when I hit the big stage.”

On fighting in Atlanta, Georgia for the first time…
“Atlanta is a major city and I’m going to give the fans in attendance a fight they’ll remember for years to come. Fighting in the South is a great opportunity to expand the Devin Haney Promotions brand. I want to fight in as many big cities as possible.”

On the state of the super-lightweight division…
“The super-lightweight division is stacked with a lot of great fighters. Terrance Crawford sits atop the division, and to me, he’s one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. I’m on my way up and I’m confident in my ability to become a world champion. I’ve been in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, Shawn Porter and a lot of other great fighters, so my confidence is extremely high. I’m gunning for everyone in the division. I know I can get down with the best of them.”

The card titled, “Remembering Our Fallen Officers Charity Boxing Gala” is being promoted by Fight Tyme Promotions, the Atlanta Boxing Association, in conjunction with Devin Haney Promotions. A live Pay-Per-Stream broadcast will be available exclusively on Fight Tyme Live for $5.99.

Tickets for “Remembering Our Fallen Officers Charity Boxing Gala” are priced at GENERAL ADMISSION $50.00 (Section D), $100 (Section C), $200 (Section B), $500 (Section A / V.I.P) CORPORATE & V.I.P. TABLES of 10 Seats including Dinner $5,000.00, and are available at www.FightTyme.com/Atlanta.

DANIEL “Miracle Man” JACOBS and LUIS “Cuba”ARIAS Conference Call Transcript from Respective Training Camps in Long Island and Delray Beach Florida & Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn

EDDIE HEARN: When I saw Luis Arias fight on the Kovalev-Ward undercard, I thought ‘This is a guy that really excited me.’ He had plenty of charisma and he loves to fight and he could become a star on November 11. In the other corner a very determined Daniel Jacobs, trying to recapture the title and trying to pick up more championship belts and potentially unify the division. He’s a honest a kid if I ever saw one and since the press conference in New York Danny Jacobs has been extremely motivated. I believe that his team and certainly I and Roc Nation know all about the threat of Luis Arias and I think this is a great fight.

LUIS ARIAS: Training camp is going great. I am working hard. We know what kind of fight we have ahead of us. I plan on making it a dog fight and I am in dog shape and everything is coming together perfectly, my weight is good – training camp has been perfect. I’m ready. What can I say? I am ready.

How much have you studied Jacobs?

LUIS ARIAS: I have studied him a lot and I have known Danny Jacobs since I was about 15 years old – his name has been in my weight division and I always new that Daniel Jacobs and I would end up fighting at some point in my life. It wasn’t in the amateurs and it ended up being in the pros. I know a lot about Daniel Jacobs. I know how he fights. I mean, I am just going to fight my fight. I can’t change anything up.. I’ve seen everything I could possibly see in the ring. I have been fighting my entire life. I’ve fought them all and seen it all, so I’ve got to go in there and do my thing. I don’t want to run and I don’t want to chase him but I know I’m going to have to so I just plan on making this a dig fight. Daniel Jacobs is going to be in a very dogfight – a hard fight. I’m coming to fight, I’m going to rough him up and I’m going to be in his face all night. I’m looking forward to showing the world what I’ve got.

Do you think Danny Jacobs is overrated?

LUIS ARIAS: I do think he’s overrated. I just like Danny Jacobs has a lot of things in his story but I’m a lot better. He comes from a big city – he comes from New York – and the amount of media and attention that anyone gets compared to anyone else around the United States is different. But if you go and look at his record there is nobody there that he beat. Eddie mentioned adding another world title but he never was a world champion. Everybody knows that the WBA has two world champions and that’s not even right. There should only be one world champion. Then he had the opportunity to be a world champion and he didn’t win. He has shown there are flaws in his game. He has been down some; he’s been hurt plenty and I don’t see a lot of tough fights. The tough fights that I see – he lost. But he is a good athlete, he is a good fighter and he has good fundamentals. But me personally I think he’s a little overrated and I feel he hasn’t completely cemented his name in the game yet. Like I said, he hasn’t been a legitimate world champion. The Last couple years, GGG has had all the belts. And Saunders . . . He’s just holding onto that belt. But he’s a good fighter and he’s got a lot of experience. This is a mixture of me being underrated and him being overrated.

Danny said yesterday that you talk a good game outside the ring but when you get inside the ring it’s going to be a totally different story

LUIS ARIAS: Jacobs? Well, every time that bell has rung and I’ve been inside that ring and the fight ended, my had was raised. So, no flaws have been shown in my game.

How have you grown over the past few fights?

LUIS ARIAS: I’ve grown a lot. I’ve grown a lot as a person and as a man. I was in a different stage of my life when I was with that whole (Mayweather Promotions) situation. Now I’m a lot older and a lot wiser and I’ve dealt with my ups and down with the game. I have a daughter now and I’m just in a better place in my life. I learned about the game. I learned about myself. I learned about the people around me. It’s a valuable lesson I had to learn and I took what I need and progressed.. I’ve gotten better, I’m fighting twelve-rounds now. I’ve grown as an athlete and as a fighter and it’s good and it’s a good learning experience.

Have you put a chip on your should moving forward since then?

LUIS ARIAS: No, people split in business all the time – aside from the boxing game – just business I general. Guys are making millions and doing business deals one moment, the next moment they are doing something else. I wasn’t mad a actually being let go, I was just upset abou the way it was handled. I felt I was undefeated and I should have more respect in the way it was handled and had it been handled in a more professional manner it would have been fine. It is what it is and what motivates me most is to be a world champion. I always felt that it really doesn’t matter what that banner says on top of the ring it’s about what you do in the ring. As long as I am controlling what I can control, which is the fights, I really can’t pay too much mind to that. What happened happened, and it was just a learning experience from God. God obviously had a different plan for me.

Were you planning a fight with Jacobs?

LUIS ARIAS: No – actually it’s no secret how the game is – whether you are on this side or that side. For the most part everybody in the middleweight division was on this side and Daniel Jacobs was really the only one that was on that side. I was shocked actually because we had put together a list and HBO put together a list of possible opponents and I never heard his name. His name had not come up because he was on that side. But it is what it is and it ended up falling in my lap and I didn’t hesitate to take it.

What kind of a fight are you expecting?

LUIS ARIAS: Hopefully he does try to come in and blast me out – that’s what I want him to do but I think he’s a little bit smarter than that. We both have a lot of fighting experience – he is just a little more known that me. I feel like the fight will be tactical in the beginning until I catch him. The moment I catch him that’s when the fight will change. I want a war. I want to duke it out. I want to stand in the middle of that ring and duke it out. Tha’ts what I want but I’m sure that’s what Danny doesn’t want. We’ll see how it plays out but I want a dog fight. I want to get out of that ring and feel like I’ve been in a fight – not in a marathon, so.

Have you fought anyone like a Danny Jacobs?

LUIS ARIAS: I have fought my whole life so in the amateurs I have fought guys like Daniel Jacobs. Even in the pros, I fought a couple bigger guys. My first fifteen fights were at super middleweight which is the reason I’m not worried abut the size difference. I was fighting at the wrong weight class until just this year. I can’t really say. Every fighter is different – they’ve got their own different things. I’ve got a lot of fights – 160 amateurs and twenty fights in as a pro and not even counting the guys I have sparred – thousands and thousands of sparring partners. I’ve seen it all. I didn’t just turn pro a couple years ago. I’ve been fighting my whole life.

If you get the win are you hoping to jump right in with the Canelo’s and the Golovkin’s?

LUIS ARIAS: The main reason I took the fight was I was told this would be a world title eliminator – that’s what really jumped on me – so I can jump right in. My goal is to become a world champion. There are different ways to get to a world title fight. You can be blessed and just given a world title fight or you can fight the names and climb the rankings. This is one of those fights where I get a name and climb the rankings. I am No. 6 in the IBF and Jacobs is No. 5 in the IBF because he is a name. After this I should be in line for a world title fight – if not the very next one, then the one after that. The goal is to get the GGG or Canelo fight. Whoever has the belts. I want a crack at the world title some time next year.

How important is the fight for Matchroom Boxing USA’s first promotion?

EDDIE HEARN: Maybe I’m a little bit different, maybe I’m too much of a fan – it the upset comes, the upset comes. It’s boxing and may the best man win. Of course Danny Jacobs is our guy and I want him to win but if Luis Arias goes out there and gets the victory – good on him. It’s about putting on good fights and the way Luis is talking he’s making me want these two weeks to hurry up because I really want to see this fight and actually the good news for the fans is we haven’t got a showcase fight here we don’t have HBO saying welcome to the world Danny Jacobs – you’ve got a real fight. Don’t forget, we threw out a bunch of opponents and he never said ‘no’ to anybody. When Luis Arias got the call he took it straight away. This is a huge opportunity, especially with Luis Arias – when you talk about a world title eliminator – there are official world title eliminators and there is commercial world title eliminators – this may end up being both but it is certainly a commercial world title eliminator and what I mean by that is if he beats Danny Jacobs on HBO he becomes a star overnight. The real pressure on this fight is on Danny Jacobs but Luis will put his own pressure on himself. It’s not a case of “if Danny lost our world would end” but we want Danny Jacobs to win but if Luis Arias deserves the victory – good on him. That’s my philosophy on the fight – I just want to see a great fight.

Was there any concern on your end when looking at opponents?

EDDIE HEARN: No, we’ve got a reputation for putting on great fights in the UK so the last thing I wanted to do was to come to America and put on a one-sided fight. I gave Danny and Keith Connolly a bunch of names and Luis Arias is one they came back with straight away and said “yea we think that is a good fight” and I spoke to Roc Nation and they spoke to Luis Arias they jumped to the opportunity and it’s refreshing in a sport where you’ve got guys trying to pad their record. This is a risky fight for Luis Arias, he is an undefeated fighter with a good record and he’s challenging Jacobs to beat him to see where he’s at – to see if he’s good enough or if he’s ready. For Danny Jacobs this is a dangerous fight because Danny Jacobs is a good name to give Golovkin or Canelo a big fight, but he knows he has to build himself on the network and he has to be in real fights, he wants to be active and Luis Arias is the guy in front of him. Again, the pressure is on Danny Jacobs in this fight. I think Luis, by the sound of things he is going to go out there and have fun and try and switch his career up.

What made you say, about Danny Jacobs, we have to get this guy?

EDDIE HEARN: I met him in New York at the Broner-Garcia fight and he looked the part. I knew he could fight in the Golovkin fight, he just about won. So straight away I knew he was a great middleweight but you look at him and you look at his backstory, his profile is not where it should be. There are many guys in American that aren’t household names that should be household names, who have the personality, who have the charisma – I’m not just saying that because Luis is on the line – but if Luis Arias beats Danny Jacobs he will be one of those as well. Deontay Wilder – he is another guy – he could walk down many streets in many cities all over America and I doubt he would get recognized. He is the heavyweight champion of the world, in America. And you look at someone like Daniel Jacobs, he has everything, and he should be a superstar too. He’s not yet but now he’s going to be active. He’s going to get the profile, but he has to win. Without the win he is completely irrelevant. Luis Arias comes to the press conference wearing the Gucci suit, he’s got the chat, he’s got the bling, but if he doesn’t win, he is irrelevant. But if you’ve got the charisma, you’ve got the personality and you can fight and you can win – you’re the package. This really is a crunch clash for both because it takes Luis to another level.

Is it extra motivation to come in a upset all of the plans he has for Daniel Jacobs?

LUIS ARIAS: To an extent, yes. Eddie just has to do his part. Eddie made a great fight and the people love it. He’ll be happy he just want to put on a great main event. I think everyone was shocked how I took this fight and talking at the press conference. That makes for a better bigger fight. They’ve got their plans and I’ve got my plans but I want that world title.

How do you view the pressure that is on Jacobs?

LUIS ARIAS: To be hones, all the pressure is on Jacobs. There is no pressure on me. No one really knows who I am. I am the young kid from Wisconsin that nobody knows. To the world, everyone thinks I am coming in to lose. Everyone is expecting me to lose so all the pressure is on him because even if he looks bad or he is in a dogfight and he gets put down again, that’s going to look bad on him. I just have to come in there and put on a valiant effort – I’m coming in to win the fight but everyone else thinks I am coming in to lose. Really all the pressure is on him.

How much does it help you with all the pressure being on him?

LUIS ARIAS: Ahhh, it helps me because I’ve just got to come in and do my thing. All t he pressure’s going to be on him so I guess we’ll se when that bell rings.

What do you see that other people don’t see that make him overrated?

LUIS ARIAS: I just look at his opponents – the guys he beat. To be that high and to have that big of a name, like who has he really beat? The only name that I can see that I can really give him credit for beating is Quillin but even Quillin to me was overrated. What happened to Quillin after that fight? He fought Sergio Mora twice – Sergio Mora was in The Contender. The Contender happened when I was like 8 or 9 years old. How did he get the Sergio Mora fight twice? After that I just down see top notch guys. I haven’t seen him in any dogfights. I’ve seen him in a lot of fights where everything benefitted him. Then again, he had two opportunities to be a world champion where the stage got bright and the lights got big and he dropped the ball. He’s getting credit for simply not getting knocked out by GGG and Eddie Hearn gave him a deal for it, and HBO did to because of Eddie. So you tell me who Danny Jacobs has beat.

You think too much was made of the Quillin win?

LUIS ARIAS: 100% – who has Quillin beat? Nobody. Quillin is another one with a pampered record. I learned a lot in the game. You can make a fighter look a lot better and build him up and make him look a lot better than he really is. You keep him away from punchers, you keep him away from boxers, you keep him away from legitimate threats and you build him up. Soften him up. To me Peter Quillin had a soft record – out of those 30 guys he beat nobody. He fought Andy Lee to a draw. He fought Jacobs and got knocked out. I don’t think Quillin was all that either. I thought Quillin was weak when I was 3-0 at the time. I just don’t see no big name guys that either of them beat, and like I said the two big fights that they had, they lost.

How much better do you feel now fighting at middleweight after fighting at a weight you said you didn’t belong in?

LUIS ARIAS: A lot better. I have always been a middleweight and I always said I was a middleweight but for some reason they were always having me fight bigger guys and fighting at the other weight class. But I feel a lot better at middleweight – I’m stronger, fast and I’m usually the bigger guy coming in and all the guys the smaller they are I knock them out. Everybody that made 160 except for one guy has got knocked out. My power is a lot stronger than what my record is – not only have I been fighting tough veterans but they were all bigger than me and even then I was able to stop a lot of them. I feel a lot better. My goal was always to be a middleweight champion first and then move up but they had me fighting at super middleweight first and then when we finally got it right I started looking more and more impressive.

Do you feel that those fights at super middleweight will benefit you against Jacobs?

LUIS ARIAS: 100% – because a lot of those fights with those bigger guys made me be a dog. I had a lot of dogfights. I was fighting guys at six rounds – I was fighting guys that were coming off ten round fights – experience veteran guys. I was 4, 5 6-0 fighting guys with 30 or 40 fights. I’ve had a lot of tough fights – they have just been in the background – but they helped me learn – they helped me learn my pace and they helped me to go around and helped me to learn to fight in a dogfight, so it’s going to prepare me – everything up to this point has prepared me for November 11 and I am 100% ready.

What about Danny Jacobs won you over – was it the Golovkin fight or the whole package??

LUIS ARIAS: Yes, for sure I think the Golovkin fight got everyone’s attention. I think the point Luis made about who he has beaten I think you can say that about most resume’s but the fight against Golovkin, many felt that he won, some thought it was a draw and some thought he lost by a round so you know that he s on that level but he didn’t win and that is the reality of it and he wants to do it. He wants to fight Golovkin again and he wants to fight Canelo. I already knew he could fight but when I looked in and when I spoke to him but again he was speaking to HBO and they were identifying him as the guy, the perfect guy, for their network. Once we knew that we were able to work the pieces and get he deal done. So it is a mixture of charisma, personality and the fact that he is a world class middleweight.

DANIEL JACOBS: Training camp is going very well. When it is all said and done it will be an eight-week camp. The mental is there, the physical is there and I am just looking forward to putting it all together on November 11.

Did you hear Arias on the call?

DANIEL JACOBS: I heard him for a little bit. I was on the last ten minutes. I put my phone on mute. It is kind of hard to listen to him because he is trying to force you guys into believing something that does not exist or really is not there. This guy is talking a good one. To the ones that really don’t know, they will believe it but I will let this guy know what’s really going to happen November 11 and all of that talk – he can talk a good one but at the end of the day it’s about what you do inside the ring. Every fighter that he fought had a losing record. This experience that he’s claiming – that he got from these professional wars? I have no idea what he’s talking about. I fought guys, and what you’re supposed to do with guys that have losing records, is knock every one of them out – that’s how you look impressive. Not go the distance and get split decisions and unanimous decisions and no contests. You’re supposed to get these guys out. How many first-round knockouts do I have? I have about as many first-round knockouts as he has fights, so this is what you do when you fight a so-called bum with no experience – you knock him out. I have no idea what this guy’s talking about, but I understand it, I get it, he’s trying to hype this fight and ultimately hype himself up because he doesn’t believe all the things he is saying.

Is it surprising to you that he is talking a lot of smack?

DANIEL JACOBS: Not really, you have to realize that this guy is a former TMT guy – he is used to the brash talk. He is used to guys trying to sell fights going over and beyond especially if that’s not him – I get it and I understand it – but I don’t think he even believes what he is saying which is the whole confusing part of it. Yea, you can sell a fight but at least put some truth into it. It’s just lies and it’s weird. He’s a weirdo.

Is that a TMT trait? They get around Floyd and they think they’re Floyd?

DANIEL JACOBS: Of course, everybody wants to do the shoulder roll – they go to the Floyd Mayweather Gym and they want to come out and be like him and that’s exactly how he fights. All those guys are an imitation of Floyd Mayweather. Maybe one or two or three of them are maybe no like that – like Gervonta Davis is his own person and a couple other guys have their own style – Badou Jack – but the rest of them, especially guys who hang around the gym and are just there, it’s the trend that goes around. It’s not bad, of course if you want to try and be like one of the greatest fighters than that’s cool but be yourself – that’s really what it comes down to. I’m a man, I’m not going to try and be like another man or act like another dude – that’s just weird to me, so yea.

This is your first fight with Matchroom USA – is there extra motivation, to go for a knockout?

DANIEL JACOBS: I’m hoping I would get it but I would be completely find getting a decision, because I’m a boxer puncher and I love to box. I think if I could get twelve rounds in it would be great experience-wise. I want to knock this guy out, but I’m not going to go int here and focus on it. If it happens, it happens. He wants me to stand there and bang with him at every opportunity to fight the fight that we thinks he will have success in but I’m too experienced for that. We have a strategic game plan that we that we are going to go in there and try to execute but there is also Plan B and Plan C if that doesn’t work. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve and excited for everything to come together, but a knockout would be nice but I’ll be content with a decision. One thing he will know come November 11 is the level between him and I and that will be with the skills I possess and the determination I will show inside that ring.

Can you tell the difference pre-Algieri and now?

DANIEL JACOBS: Absolutely, it gives you more experience having a team that knows exactly what they’re doing with their knowledge and experience – these guys have been doing it for a long time – Chris, Anthony Irons, Andre Rozier and even the support I get from friends and family. It just helps me but I’ve been at this stage before and I get hat he’s saying that I may have “dropped the ball” – but people are not praising me for making 12-rounds with Gennady Golovkin – let’s not get that confused. If they are praising me they are praising me for the fact that they believe that I won the fight – not that I just went twelve rounds with Gennady Golovkin. It’s like 60/40, 50/50, 70/30 – a lot of people agree that I won the fight and I don’t stand alone with that so I am not getting praise for going the distance with Gennady Golovkin. People realize the talent that I have and that’s just it. My job is to continue what I’ve been doing – I’m a professional and have to act accordingly and the goal is to get the job done and look impressive, so as long as I look impressive which I have done in every one of my fights – let’s make that clear – in every one of my fights I have looked impressive and I always gave 100%. Even if I lost the fight, I was always willing to give 100% and I think that’s what people admire – he just sounds a little sulky to me, maybe because he has the long way up. A lot of people have success early on in the game and a lot of people don’t, but it’s up to him to try and steel the glory and that’s going to make for a good fight but he can’t me mad at me because I have a great team. Not a good team but a great team, and I’ve always had a good team. I may have had, what he says, the easy road, but no I have worked hard for everything that I have gotten and I am going to continue to do so with all of these opportunities as they present itself.

Do you want Canelo or Golovkin more, or doesn’t it matter, or everyone?

DANIEL JACOBS: I am a realist and I understand the business of boxing. And I know that even thought these guys aren’t really fearful of me, right now I’m in a lose-lose situation with those guys because I am not technically a champion. I am one of the best in the division and the fans do want all of us, I mean the fans do want me to fight those guys, but they know it’s not worth it to step in there with a guy like me. I’d rather continue to do my job, climb the ladder, get a title eventually and maybe chase these guys, but to fight me right now? I don’t see that happening. These guys are looking at it from a business perspective, not from a true champion want to be dominant of the sport perspective and I understand that so I need to go in there and not get frustrated, let my team do their job and I continue to do mine.

If they are out who do you target?

DANIEL JACOBS: Anything is possible. I think my team has the say-so in the direction that we want to go in. But as a fighter, every fighter is going to say he is willing to face any and every opponent – it doesn’t matter. Our job is to get in there and fight. It’s really not by job to say who we fight. I know that with the team that we have they will set me up and everything will be perfect, but I will step in the ring with anybody and everybody.

What made you pick Eddie Hearn?

DANIEL JACOBS: He is the most handsome guy out of all of the promoters. It was a no-brainer. This guy is a clean-cut – I just think it really makes sense. May manager Keith Connolly in my No. 1 guy who has supported me since I was 15 years old. I just wanted to go in that direction. When you think of the success that Anthony Joshua has had over in the UK, I think him coming to America and making the same success it would be that much easier because of the experience that he has. If I can get on the train at the first stop with nobody on it, for the ride, I think I am in a great position. HBO is backing me as well, so I think it’s a dream come true to have the best manager, promoter and network, to have the best team with the potential to make me a superstar that is backing me.

DANIEL JACOBS: I think every fighter deserves that. I think every fighter needs that. Ultimately I think every fighter needs that certainty of a schedule where he can provide for his family and stay active because this is what we do for a living. You have to understand the mental state that a fighter has and that he maybe fights twice every year or year and a half – it can be very frustrating and I think it’s a perfect time for me to start this new chapter and to be a lot more active, and, get the promotion from a promoter that is outstanding. Listen, Eddie Hearn is not saying these things just to say them. If you think about it, and I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but if I was a promoter, if I was a manager, I would want to have a guy like myself because there are too few guys that have the ‘it’ factor in boxing, and I think that I represent the sport well like a gentleman inside and outside the sport and if I can have a guy that I can promote like that, it’s an easy thing to do. I think that with the experience he has it’s a great recipe.

Do you think he can do here what he has done in the UK?

DANIEL JACOBS: I am looking forward to seeing what great things will happen and I know things will. I don’t know why things are the way they are here but I just know that I’m taking things in my hands and taking control of me and at the end of the day that will benefit me because I put my life on the line each and every time I go inside that ring. It’s a matter of whet makes me feel comfortable and what’s best for me.

Do you think Daniel would fight in the UK?

EDDIE HEARN: Yes, absolutely, but the focus is on America for sure and what Danny talks about in terms of his schedule in terms of activity, when he leaves the ring on November 11, I’m certain we will know the date of his next fight. So that gives him an opportunity to plan his camp and spend some time with the family and plan out his schedule. We want him to box three times in 2018 and if one is in the UK – no problem. When we look at future opponents of course everyone looks at Danny Jacobs they look a the Golovkin-Canelo winner, but you’ve got Billy Joe fighting Lemieux on December 16 and that’s a fight where Danny is a natural for the winner – it could be in Canada, it could be in the UK, it could be in New York. But really and truly I believe the plan is to grow Danny in America. I don’t think he’s been built up the way he should be. Hey listen, Rome wasn’t built in a day – it’s not just a case of turning up on November 11 like he’s a superstar and he’s being carried out and all this kind of stuff, but in time people will get to see him. HBO will run his story to show the build-up on November 4 – little things like that and activity across social media. It’s going to take time but it’s not difficult when you’ve got a fighter, an asset, a brand like Daniel Jacobs. I don’t want to take the credit for it when it happens but it is quite easy. But again at this tie we are playing catch-up because it should have been done a while ago. But we are doing it now and all he’s got to do is win on November 11 then we move on to the next one. He will really enjoy the profile but he’ll more enjoy the activity and the schedule and know what we are doing.

Can you promote a guy in the US like you can in the UK?

EDDIE HEARN: I just don’t think there are promotional machines out there. Even when people are sleeping you’ve got to be working whether it’s a viral clip or a digital clip across social media – a different kind of build-up – sometimes you might not even see it. Sometimes things might be happening that you don’t even realize it’s happening but it’s out there and people are hearing the name Daniel Jacobs and seeing the clips and seeing the content, they are watching him fight. It’s not something that happens over two or three months – it happens over probably 12 or 18 months. Fighters in America seem to be promoted over two or three weeks before the fight. They do one press conference and then a bit of build-up before. It’s not about that, it’s about aligning with a brand. If you look a the Anthony Joshua – I am currently standing in the middle of a 80,000 seat stadium and their won’t be one empty seat tomorrow. His partner is Under Armor – commercial brands that actually grow the profile of the fighters. Again you talk about Daniel Jacobs – he is the kind of guy that is perfect for a brand and actually why wouldn’t you want to be involved with Danny Jacobs. Deontay Wilder – he’s another guy. He’s the world heavyweight champion. He looks the part he talks the part, yet where’s the vehicles driving these guys. We deal with 40 or 50 fighters in the UK and some are easier to promote than others. I look at Danny Jacobs and I say this isn’t really difficult. The only thing he needs to do is keep winning. He’ll come out of the ring on November 11, I believe he’ll be victorious and then he’ll have another date in the diary, probably April next year. He can have a little rest with his family, have a nice Christmas and get back to work. It’s not waiting three or four months to find out when you’re next fight is. You have to have a schedule and fans need to know about your schedule because it’s all about the story that you’re trying to tell.

What do you think the options are?

EDDIE HEARN: I feel like Danny Jacobs is the guy outside of Canelo and Golovkin. I think we need to keep moving forward, but there is not sort of desperate we need him or we need that. We want the Canelo Golovkin winner and that’s the reason why Danny signed with HBO so in the meantime if that fight is going to happen in May, Danny will box in April then we want the winner of that fight. Who we box in April could be the Lemieux-Saunders winner – we would love to have a shot at the world title in April. It could be a whole host of other guys. It’s really a case of building – moving forward getting activity and being ready for the super pay per view fight when it comes. Within 12 months that fight is coming because he is the guy to fight the winner of Canelo-Golovkin and by the time the Canelo-Golovkin fight happens, Danny will be three times the size that he is now so there will be no way out for those guys. Even when they go into that fight they will already know that the winner is fighting Danny Jacobs. So all Danny has to do is just keep winning. That’s all that matters. We take care of the rest. He’s got a great manager in Keith Connolly who is like a father to him. He’s got his back all the time. We plan, we put this structure together for the fights and all he has to do is train and everything else it taken care of.

Arias has been disrespectful to you, unlike the way you are to your opponents. How do you fee about that?

DANIEL JACOBS: I don’t dislike him. I think like I said before, he’s trying to pump himself up and it’s thru these tactics that he has to do it and I understand it. He is a little younger than me so maybe he is a little immature. The only think that I don’t agree with and it kind of doesn’t sit well with me is the fact that he’s undermining my skills and that’s a big mistake. I get it, sometimes boxers, they have to say certain things to get inside their opponent’s head but I’m too far experienced to let a yungin come in the game and mess it up for me.

What do you think about the Saunders-Lemieux fight and what do you think about fighting the winner?

DANIEL JACOBS: I think it’s a great opportunity for me. Like I said before I’ll be going against these top guys and I’m gunning for these guys and it would be that much better if they had a title. I think there’s a great possibility for the fight to happen and it makes sense because those guys have been avoiding me for some time now. Now that they are fighting each other, it’s like where else do you go if these guys are contractually tied. Yea we are going to go to Montreal if in fact we get this victory which I am sure we will, we are going to be present and hopefully – it doesn’t matter who wins to me -I think BJ might edge him a little bit it is boxing and anything can happen. But it doesn’t matter I think the winner makes total sense to fight me in the future, the near future.

Victory Sports & Entertainment signs former world champion Jose Pedraza to managerial contract

New York, N.Y. (October 30, 2017)–Victory Sports & Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of former IBF World Junior Lightweight Champion Jose Pedraza to a multi-year managerial contract.

Pedraza of Cidra, Puerto Rico has a record of 22-1 with 12 knockouts. Pedraza says, “I am very happy to sign with Victory Sports and look forward to the next chapter of my career. They represent a number of up and coming fighters and also work with elite fighters like Badou Jack so I feel that Victory is the right team to lead me back to a world championship.”

At 28 years-old, Pedraza is a six-year professional and one of the most highly decorated amateurs to come out of Puerto Rico. An Olympian in 2008, Pedraza also won medals in numerous international competitions including silver in the 2009 World Amateur Championships in Milan and gold at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. After turning pro in 2011, Pedraza won his first 19 fights before capturing the IBF Junior Lightweight Championship in only his 20th fight, capturing the belt with a 12-round unanimous decision over Andrey Klimov. After defending his belt twice, Pedraza lost his belt earlier this year in an upset to Gervonta Davis, and is now looking to rebound. “My lack of activity and struggling to make weight at 130lbs definitely affected my performance in my last fight,” says Pedraza, “but I am working hard and looking forward to coming back soon. I think the Lightweight division is where I will make my mark and am excited to get back in the ring.”

President of Victory Sports Rick Torres feels that Pedraza is ready to make a statement at Lightweight, “Jose Pedraza is bar none the best fighter in Puerto Rico and we are extremely proud to welcome him to the Victory Sports family. We feel that Jose can be a force at Lightweight. There are a number of attractive fights in the division, from Jorge Linares to Mickey Garcia, all of which would make great fights for boxing fans.”

“Jose is a tremendous fighter who, at twenty-eight, is still in his physical prime,” explained Victory Sports COO Mike Leanardi. “We are looking to get him back in the ring as soon as possible. Then, after a tune-up fight or two, there is no reason Jose won’t be ready to take on the best in the world,” Leanardi continued.

Pedraza joins Victory’s growing stable of fighters including undefeated world ranked contenders Sonny Fredrickson and Tyler McCreary.

Founded by noted sports attorney Rick Torres and boxing trainer Mike Leanardi, Victory Sports & Entertainment is an athlete management company with offices in New York and Las Vegas.

CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN– ROBERTO “MASSA” ORTIZ MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

JOE DeGUARDIA/STAR BOXING: I want to welcome everyone; we are really pleased that we are going to be featuring Cletus Seldin against Roberto Ortiz with Golden Boy Promotions at the fights on November 11 at the Nassau Coliseum. We congratulate Eddie Hearn on a very exciting triple header and certainly it is always great to be back on HBO, the premier network in boxing and certainly to be at the Nassau Coliseum when we have been so active in Long Island. Seldin v. Ortiz is the type of fight that’s a throwback to the 1920′ and ’30’s – it’s the heart of boxing when you have two guys that are bangers and punchers coming forward and coming after each other and fighting the way fans like to see. I’m really looking forward to this night.

ROBERT DIAZ/GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS: Like Joe said, we are excited, we are on the No. 1 network and it’s a can’t miss. It’s a can’t miss because of their styles. Ortiz, you have seen him, he tried to get on the fight with Orozco and we all know what happened there but now he is given another opportunity against an undefeated fighter and a win here . . . they know what a win here at this level means for both fighters. It’s a make or break. They are coming in for the bigger fights and they have to go in there and perform. Joe we are looking forward to working with you and we are ready.

ROBERT DIAZ: Everyone, with a record of 35-1, 2 draw, 26 knockouts, Roberto “El Massa” Ortiz.

ROBERTO ORTIZ: I am very excited. I am very grateful for the opportunity that HBO, Golden Boy, my co-promoters Cancun Boxing and Pepe Gomez, my manger Memo Rocha has given me. I’m very excited for November 11 and the opportunity that brings me.

JOE DeGUARDIA: What a tremendous fight. You have a guy that’s 35-1 with 26 knockouts fighting against a guy that’s 20-0 with 16 knockouts. This is really what boxing’s about – two exciting styles and I’m very pleased to introduce Cletus Seldin. You heard Eddie Hearn earlier speaking about character and personality – this guy is really a throwback to the heart of the Jewish fighters – the kind of character that he’s got – the trunks and jacket and he’s a fighter. He’s a Long Island fighter, undefeated, built up at The Paramount where we’ve been so successful in creating guys like Chris Algieri, Joe Smith and now Cletus Seldin. He’s going to be our next big star – he’s graduating from The Paramount and now fighting at the Nassau Coliseum on HBO. He’s been packing them in at The Paramount, he’s very exciting and I’m very pleased to announce and introduce Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin.

CLETUS SELDIN: Hey guys, Cletus here, I am so excited, so pumped, so ecstatic to be involved in this particular fight at the Nassau Coliseum. It’s literally going to be two gladiators fighting – two warriors – and we are fighting for it all. We all know what’s at stake and we are putting everything towards this. I literally went from one fight, took a week off, then went into this fight. I jumped on it with smiles, I didn’t even know who the opponent was, I just couldn’t wait to get in the ring and fight again. I am excited and I am ready to bring every single thing that I have into this fight. I am training currently in West Palm Beach, Florida with Pete Brodsky again and we have what it takes to take it to the next level and I am going to guarantee an action packed fight that will most likely end before the ten rounds.

What does it mean, as a Long Islander, to fight at the Coliseum?

CLETUS SELDIN: Being, literally, a Long Island person, I’m literally putting everything I can into moving forward and for me to be a part of Star Boxing and this being our first time out – I am taking this to the next limit. I don’t even know what the amount of tickets that will be sold (to my fans) – probably 700-1000 tickets. It’s incredible. People are buying and I am really impressed on the outcome of that. Moving forward, right after this fight – considering that Orozco and Ortiz were supposed to be almost a title-eliminator kind of fight, I believe that our next step would be in that direction. If this is a title eliminator we could go after Crawford or any of the titles that have been vacated or whatever is going to be out there. So that is definitely on my mind.

When you win the title will you feel as though you are representing the Jewish people?

CLETUS SELDIN: Absolutely, I come in the ring wearing the Star of David on my trunks. On the back of my jacket it says “Remember the Masada.” My trainers, my managers, they are all Jewish and I’m like ‘the guy’ because there aren’t that many Jewish athletes in professional sports today and for me to be a part of boxing and be able to speak my mind the way I want to is by far one of the greatest gifts that I could give back to the Jewish community. I have been going to the concentration camps events. I do ribbon cuttings with concentration camp survivors. I go to all of these little events on Long Island to help support and to push the Jewish boxing name that I have right now. I love it because a lot of the kids, Jewish kids, they don’t know that there are professional boxers out there – we are all supposed to be doctors and lawyers and I have been pushing on that. Boxing is like life – everyone knows that – it’s a fight – so there you have it.

What part of Long Island did you grow up in and have you fought at the Coliseum before?

CLETUS SELDIN: I have not fought at any level at the Coliseum. The only time I have been there is for a Comic Con – I like nerdy stuff. I haven’t been in that venue yet but to me it’s just another fight where I come in and I am a wrecking machine, just like every other one. You guys have seen my fights – that’s exactly how I fight and how hard I punch.

CLETUS SELDIN: I grew up in Shirley, New York on Long Island. I went to Longwood High School and going to high school there was only three or four Jewish guys, so we are all friends and we all know each other and I love that we still have that relationship.

How forward are you looking to fighting a guy that has fought top notch fighters in his career?

CLETUS SELDIN: Every day I wake up so happy because this is where I wanted to be in my career. I am 20-0 right now and I am ready to make that next step and everybody who watched my fights and watched me get built up knows it’s time. I always get the question ‘when is the time?’ It actually came now and it came at the perfect time because I just fought and I am in great shape and I am ready to put on one of the best shows that HBO is going to have that night. I always say it, whether I am the first fight or the last fight, my fights are always the best fights.

How much does it motivate you when you here “oh, he hasn’t fought anybody, let’s see how he does against a higher level guy?’

CLETUS SELDIN: Actually it doesn’t give me any motivation because I know how much work and effort I put into each fight. It doesn’t matter if I’m fighting a guy like Renald Garrido who I just fought – he was 19-15 but he was able to fight. All the other guys were good fighters but I just make sure that I train as if it was always a world championship fight or a main event or a televised fight on HBO. I have been going to training camp since the first fight of my entire career so I am used to knowing what hard work is.

How much has Algieri and Smith inspired you – as they went from The Paramount to the high levels?

CLETUS SELDIN: Absolutely – seeing those guys get there, New York state had that issue with their insurance policies – I just kept telling myself ‘don’t sorry about it, just keep working hard because it is going to happen, Star Boxing has done it before multiple times so don’t stop.’ I just continue to never stop training and I wasn’t going to wait until a bigger fight was going to come. Even afterward, we may be back at the Paramount because I want to stay busy – I want to stay active. I really don’t want to fight three or four time, I want to fight six or seven times a year. That’s the kind of stance that I want to take in my career.

How far is the town that you grew up in from the Coliseum?

CLETUS SELDIN: It’s about an hour ride. I live in Middle Island, Suffolk County – I live right in the middle. I remember going there as a kid – going to the circus, seeing some hockey games – it was like a little family vacation for my family.

What kind of challenge do you think Cletus will present to you?

ROBERTO ORTIZ: I know he’s a strong fighter. He moves forward. He is aggressive. I know he’s hungry for a victory, but you know what? I’m hungry too. I’m actually hungrier than him because of all the work that I have put in over the years that all that has gotten me here to get this opportunity and I’m not going to let it go. You will see on November 11.

You have been having open training sessions with the fans and the kids – since the two fights are so close together will you be able to do that?

CLETUS SELDIN: Yes we are, we literally just committed to it just a few hours ago. It is pretty much a new tradition that we do for the fights, we have a little open workout in Riverhead, my hometown, and people and all the kids come in there and we work out with them and show them stuff. I always get messages on Instagram and on Twitter of people posting a sharing that their kid is now going into boxing three days a week and it is definitely one of the better parts of finishing out the training camp.

JOE DeGUARDIA: Let me just add to that – Cletus has a real busy schedule the week of – we are going to be doing a Long Island event on Tuesday, we have fighter workouts on Wednesday and Thursday is the press conference and Friday obviously the weigh-in and I specifically spoke to Cletus and said you know you are going to have a busy schedule – are you sure you want to do this thing you do every Saturday before, and he said ‘absolutely, I’ve got to do it for the kids and I still want to do it,’ so he is going to do the open workout on Saturday for all the kids at the gym.

Where did you grow up?

CLETUS SELDIN: I grew up in Shirley and I moved to and currently live in Bayshore so it’s about an hour ride from Middle Island to the Coliseum.

How did MMA prepare you for boxing?

CLETUS SELDIN: My entire athletic career prepared me for boxing – it’s the one thing I have an advantage of over every single person that walks into a boxing ring. I played football, I was a body builder, wrestled, and I started doing MMA before these other boxers. You can’t teach to the other boxers what I have – I am a strong, strong human being that nobody will be able to find at 140-147 pounds, in this entire world, that can punch, take a punch and knows strategy like myself.

MATT REMILLARD HALTS YARDLEY CRUZ IN MAIN EVENT

Mashantucket, CT (10/29/17) – On Saturday night, DiBella Entertainment returned to the Fox Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, CT, with another action-packed installment of its popular Broadway Boxing series, presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, and Christos Steak House.

Headlining the event, Manchester, CT’s Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard, 129, lived up to his nickname, as he just could not miss against the tough-yet-stationary Mexican southpaw Yardley Cruz, 130, of Sacramento, CA. Once ranked #2 in the world before his loss to future world champion Mikey Garcia in 2011, Remillard’s edge in speed and power were on display as he picked up the third victory of his comeback that began in April of this year. Trained by Connecticut Boxing Hall of Famer Paul Cichon, Remillard proved to be effective at cutting off the ring and trapping Cruz in corners, tagging the midsection with stinging straight rights. As the bout wore on, the very accurate Remillard unleashed more of his arsenal, battering Cruz with uppercuts and straights that snapped his adversary’s head back. The punishment continued until the referee felt Cruz had taken enough, ending the contest at 2:31 of round four, awarding Remillard the TKO victory and improving his record to 26-1 (15 KOs). Cruz is now 22-9 (12 KOs).

Making her ninth appearance at Foxwoods Resort Casino, women’s junior lightweight contender Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent, 129, of Providence, RI, dominated the hard-punching, former world title challenger Calixta Silgado, 130, of Tolu, Colombia, over eight rounds. Vincent immediately worked her way inside and kept the fight at close quarters for the remainder of the contest, digging hooks to the body and head. Whatever leather Silgado threw, Vincent was able to easily evade by bobbing and weaving. Round seven exploded with fireworks, as Vincent and Silgado traded with abandon to the delight of the fans. Vincent controlled the action in the final stanza to claim a unanimous decision on scorecards of 79-73 twice, and 77-75, improving her record to 21-1 (1 KO). Silgado’s record fell to 15-9-3 (10 KOs). Now three fights removed from her only defeat, losing a decision in a heated battle against rival Heather Hardy in August 2016, Vincent has feverishly sought after a rematch of what was considered the “female fight of the year” by Ring Magazine.

The 19-year-old “Marvelous” Mykquan Williams, 143, of East Hartford, CT, fought at Foxwoods for the eighth time out of nine professional fights and demolished southpaw Somner Martin, 144, of Martinsville, VA, in the opening stanza of a scheduled six-rounder. Williams pressed the action from the outset, landing punishing left hooks and short straight rights that had Martin in trouble and on unsteady legs, forcing a stoppage at the 2:19 mark. Trained by Paul Cichon and managed by the renowned Jackie Kallen, Williams upped his record to 9-0 (5 KOs). Martin’s ledger dropped to 7-6 (4 KOs). Williams was a decorated amateur with a 45-13 record, highlighted by three gold-medal performances at the Ringside World Championships, in addition to winning the PAL Tournament and Silver Gloves Championships.

The popular Nicholas DeQuattro, 141, of Johnston, RI, and pro-debuting Andre Belcarris, 146, of Bennington, VT, engaged in an entertaining four-round brawl. Both DeQuattro and Belcarris dispensed with technique, intent on slugging it out and playing to the crowd with moments of flash and bravado. Belcarris, who entered the bout with an MMA background, was the aggressor early, though DeQuattro shot hooks downstairs that would tire his adversary later on. DeQuattro and Belcarris each landed wild haymakers in the third. A visibly winded Belcarris lost his mouthpiece twice in the final frame, as DeQuattro outworked him to win a unanimous verdict with tallies of 40-36 twice, and 39-37. DeQuattro, now 2-0 (1 KO), made his pro debut at Foxwoods on September 15, scoring a first-round knockout.

Canadian middleweight contender Steve Rolls, 162, of Toronto, scored a highlight-reel knockout against Mexican Andrik Saralegui, 168, of San Diego, CA, in round three. Rolls dictated the pace, controlling the distance with a steady jab and expert footwork, never letting Saralegui in close enough to land solidly. Straight rights downstairs added to Saralegui’s discomfort over the first six minutes of the contest. A three-punch combination in the third, culminating with a devastating left hook to the body, sent Saralegui to the canvas in pain, and the bout was immediately stopped at the 2:17 mark. With the victory, Rolls improved his record to 17-0 (10 KOs). Rolls has had two impressive victories televised by Showtime’s ShoBox series. In December 2015, Rolls stopped the 9-0-1 Steed Woodall in four rounds, and most recently, he earned an eight-round decision win against the dangerous 17-1-1 Demond Nicholson on June 9. Before turning pro in 2011, Rolls had a very successful amateur career, competing on both the 2009 and 2010 Canadian National boxing teams, finishing with an 83-14 record overall.

A 2016 New England Golden Gloves champion, welterweight Khiry “TNT” Todd, 146, of Lynn, MA, earned a unanimous six-round decision versus the experienced Evincii Dixon, 148, of Lancaster, PA. While Todd employed textbook boxing technique, pinpointing jabs to the body then following up with combinations upstairs, an apprehensive Dixon remained defensive-minded throughout. By the third frame, Todd was caving in Dixon’s midsection with vicious hooks. Scorecards read 60-54, and 59-55 twice, all for Todd, to improve his record to 6-0 (5 KOs). Dixon now stands at 7-21-2 (2 KOs).

Ending an eight-month absence from the ring, Puerto Rican prospect Nicklaus Flaz, 156, of Bayamon, was taken the distance for the first time as a pro, battling a game Elie Augustama, 162, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, over six rounds. Flaz applied pressure at the start, finding a home for his straight right upstairs. When Augustama closed the gap, Flaz banged the body. In the third, Augustama was cut near his right eye as a result of Flaz’ consistent jab. Augustama had a late rally in the final frame, but Flaz closed the show landing counter shots to seize a unanimous decision on scores of 60-54, and 59-55 twice. Flaz, who was a three-time National champion as an amateur, compiling a record of 88-7, upped his pro ledger to 5-0 (4 KOs), while Augustama dipped below the .500 mark to 6-7 (3KOs).

In his debut at Foxwoods Resort Casino, southpaw Hurshidbek Normatov, 158, opened up the card quickly dispatching of Toronto, Canada’s Bruce Lutchmedial, 159, inside round one. Normatov, born in Uzbekistan, but now living and training in Brooklyn with Andre Rozier, was the taller fighter and used his longer reach to keep Lutchmedial at bay with the jab. Backing Lutchmedial against the ropes, Normatov landed three right hooks to drop his foe. The same punch felled Lutchmedial a second time moments later and the bout was stopped by the referee at the 2:38 mark. Promoted by DiBella Entertainment and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, Normatov, who was an experienced amateur competing in 324 bouts and winning the 2014 European National championship, improved to 4-0 (2 KOs). Lutchmedial’s record is now 2-4 (2 KOs).

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga Victorious in pro boxing debut

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 29, 2017) – Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga has a successful pro boxing debut last night (Saturday, Oct. 28) in the co-featured event on the “New England’s Future 4″ card, presented by Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), at DCU Center, Exhibition Hall, in Worcester.

The 6′ 2”, 280-pound Brazilian, now fighting out of Worcester (MA), fought another pro-debut boxer with limited MMA experience, Alejandro Esquilin Santiago, of Tampa (FL). Gonzaga stalked the southpaw Santiago, landing some hard shots in the opening round. The heavy-handed Gonzaga picked up the pace in the third and his upset-minded opponent responded in a positive fashion. Both fighters exchanged freely in the fourth and final round, neither was hurt during the contest, and Gonzaga was awarded a win by four-round majority decision.

“I thought I’d be more relaxed in the ring like I had been in the gym,” Gonzaga said. “I did my best and came away with a victory. I was too safe in the third round. My punches were much strong and a lot of his punches I blocked with my gloves. This was really great! tonight”

Gonzaga (L) defeated Santiago

“I felt good and gave it my all,” Santiago remarked. “He hit me with some shots and gave ’em back. Not only does he have a big nose (“Napao”), he has a strong, big head, too.”

In the main event, popular Hartford (CT) light heavyweight Richard “Popeye The Sailor Man” Rivera remained undefeated, improving his record to 4-0 (3 KOs), with a first-round knockout of an over-matched Hansen Castillo (0-3)

Rivera, not relations to the promoter, first dropped Castillo with a beautifully placed left uppercut and finished the show moments later with a left hook that sent Castillo flying to canvas. Referee Kevin Hope didn’t bother to count.

“My coaches were telling me to be calm because it was a six-round bout,” Rivera explained. “I saw that he had his left down and caught him with an uppercut. I’m strong to the finish because I eat my spinach.”

New Haven junior middleweight Edwin Sosa (11-2-2, 4 KOs) overcame at 15-pound disadvantage, at the very least, en route to a dominant six-round unanimous decision over Anthony “The Animal” Everett (1-7), of Rowley (MA).

Danbury (CT) junior welterweight Omar Bordoy, Jr. (3-0, 1 KO) stopped New York veteran Bryan “The Brick” Abraham (6-31, 6 KOs) in the fourth and final round. Abraham was decked twice and after counting to 10 after Abraham’s second time on the canvas, referee Paul Casey waved off the action.

Three-time national amateur champion Elvis “Chi Chi” Figueroa (3-0, 1 KO), fighting out of New Haven, pitched a complete shutout over a game, pro-debuting Rene Nazare (0-1), of Brazil, for a convincing win by way of a four-round unanimous decision.

Southbridge (MA) welterweight Wilfredo “El Sucaro” Pagan (3-0, 1 KO) pinned Patrick Leal (0-4), of Woburn, on the ropes early, dropping him three times until referee Casey halted the fight midway through the opening round.

Joshua stops Takam in 10; retains Heavyweight titles

Anthony Joshua retained the IBF/WBA Heavyweight titles with a 10th round stoppage over Carlos Takam in front ovf over 78,000 fans at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Joshua controlled the action from the outset. Joshua started to bleed from his nose in round two from a clash of heads. That was the only minor blemish for the champion as he kept the durable Takam at bay with hard jabs and right hands.

The fight started to take its course in round four when Takam suffered a cut over his right eye, and later in the round he was sent to the canvas when he ate a short left hand on the inside.

Joshua continued to land some solid shots, while Takam showed that he was deserving as he tried to fight back and would sneak in a right hand to keep Joshua honest.

In round eye, Takam suffered a cut over his left eye, and the fight was slowly slipping away from the late-replacement challenger.

In round ten, Joshua landed a good combination, and referee Phil Edwards stopped the bout at 1:34.

Joshua is now 20-0 with all wins coming early. Takam of France is now 35-4-1.

Salina Aztec Queen Barrios Returns to the Ring Nov 2 Against Decorated Amateur Zarina Tsoloyeva

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 27, 2017) – Undefeated female sensation, super-lightweight Selina “Aztec Queen” Barrios (2-0, 1 KO), returns to the ring Thursday, November 2, 2017 in Louisiana at The Rayne Civic Center. Barrios will face the highly touted Zarina Tsoloyeva (Pro Debut) from Zhaksy, Kazakhstan, in a 4-round bout in the super-lightweight division. The card titled “RAYNE RISING” is presented by Bad Chad’s Boxncar Promotions.

Barrios, who hails from San Antonio, TX, is the older sister of undefeated super-lightweight contender, Mario Barrios (20-0, 12 KOs). As an amateur, Selina had a remarkable record of (80-3), most of which came by stoppage. She has a notable win against USA Olympian and Top Rank fighter, Mikaela Mayer (2-0, 2 KOs), and vows to make a statement against Tsoloyeva.

“Even though Tsoloyeva is making her pro debut, she’s a big step up in competition,” Selina Barrios said. “She had a great amateur career and I know she’s going to be a tough opponent. All I know is I’m going to bring the heat, and show her why I’m the most dangerous fighter in women’s boxing.”

Selina Barrios is guided by longtime boxing manager, Kerry Daigle, who believes Barrios is one of the most exciting boxers he’s seen in years.

“Selina has that fighting style that every boxing fan loves,” said Kerry Daigle. “She’s nonstop action every time she steps in the ring. I haven’t seen a fighter like her in a long time, male or female. She has that special something that you can’t explain but you know is extraordinary. She’s in a very competitive fight, against a very skilled fighter in Zarina Tsoloyeva. When I asked her if she was willing to fight such a decorated amateur fighter, she said yes, with no hesitation. That’s what I love about Selina, she’s ready to fight anyone, anywhere.”

Zarina Tsoloyeva, best known for her resemblance to actress Angelina Jolie, won a bronze medal in the Kazakh national championships. She’s a highly accomplished amateur champion with great boxing skills.

Tickets to “RAYNE RISING” priced $25 General Admission (Pre-sale), ($30 general admission tickets at the door), $125 VIP Ringside, and $800 1st Row Executive Tables, are on sale now at http://www.boxncar.com/buy-tickets/ or by calling (337) 298-7658.

The Rayne Civic Center is located at 210 Frog Festival Dr, Rayne, LA 70578. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. first bell at 7:00 p.m.

Daniel Jacobs Media Day & Jarrell Miller & Dimash Niyazov

LONG ISLAND (October 27, 2017) – In the main event on Saturday, Nov. 11, Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs battle undefeated Luis Arias in a twelve-round middleweight bout at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Opening the action-packed HBO telecast will be super lightweight knockout artists Long Island’s own Cletus Seldin and Roberto Ortiz squaring off in a 10-round bout. In the chief-support bout, exciting heavyweight Jarrell Miller looks to stake his claim on a heavyweight title shot and in his way is Polish giant Mariusz Wach. As part of the stacked undercard, undefeated New York City police officer Dimash “Lightning” Niyazov (12-0, 5 KOs) will fight in a six-round lightweight bout.

DANIEL “Miracle Man” JACOBS
“He has to be super human to beat me and I will be his kryptonite. I don’t think he has the mentality. He talks a lot of trash but when you go in there it’s a different story. Yeah, you can make it sound good outside the ring – you can trash talk and you can try and hype yourself up but it’s a totally different story once you get inside that ring – you get hit then you realize you are in there with a totally different caliber of fighter. I am elite compared to the caliber of opponents he has fought in his professional career. He talks about the amateurs but you can’t talk about amateurs and I don’t know why he’s highlighting his amateur career. I mean, when do we highlight amateur fights at this level – it really doesn’t mean anything now. There are levels to this game and I am going to show him that on November 11.”

JARRELL “Big Baby” MILLER
“All I am focused on right now is Nov. 11th and doing what I do best and that is delivering a knockout when I step back in that ring. I’m very grateful to HBO, Eddie Hearn and Dmitry Salita for this opportunity and I will not disappoint. It took a lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifice to get to this point and I didn’t do it alone…my team has been with me and my fans. Big Baby is coming….beware.”

DIMASH “Lightning” NIYAZOV
“There are 250 cops in my precinct and about half of them will show up. This guy (points to friend) is a cop in another precinct and he loves boxing and he will come and he will bring a bunch more. Every time I fight in New York he brings his cop friends and I bring my cop friends. Between Long Island and New York City there are 35,000 of us. Each of the other precincts will have about 20 guys there. It’s great support. We are a big family. It is a dream of mine to walk to the ring with hundreds of cops and just me walking down the middle.

“I train every day. I work night shift from 11:00 pm to 8:00 am. And now I am here. I take a little nap after work then I go to the gym. I think my fight is going to make the card. I haven’t fought in New York in a long time and I’m very excited about being on this card. I’ve known Danny since we were 15 training in the Coney Island projects and to see him come up and to become world champion – I am trying to follow his dream.”
