Timothy Bradley announces retirement

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former two-division world champion Timothy Bradley has announces his retirement.

“I had a helluva run. It was a good career,” Bradley said. “I’m just not motivated to do this anymore. I’ve saved my money. I’m good.”

“There always comes a point in life where we have to make choices that, no matter how much we know the right option, it still leaves us filled with mixed emotions,” Bradley said. “I have spent the past couple days trying to find the right words to describe this point in my life, and no matter how long I sit and reflect, I still don’t know if these words can do my thoughts justice, but I’m going to do my best to open up my heart and share with all of you during this pivotal time.

“It is no secret that a life of any professional athlete is not an easy one. Yes, it comes with a lot of fame and fortune but also comes with fear and fatigue. A balance that has to be achieved by ambition and maintained through perspective. For over 23 years, boxing gave me purpose and it defined me. [I was] dedicated to my craft and fueled by my passion for the sport, my love for my team and my admiration for all of you who supported me day in and day out. I was able to give 100 percent of myself to be the best and to always get up when I was knocked down.”

Of his possible Hall of Fame career, Bradley said, “It was the biggest challenge in my life, but I embraced the sacrifice with every victory and milestone reached. Boxing gave me roots, it kept me off the streets, it gave me confidence, it taught me how to be a man and face every challenge head on and take the good with the bad. Yes, I missed holidays, birthdays, even missed hearing some of my children’s first words, but more than time, it took my blood, sweat and tears — all things I can never get back, which is why turning the page for me is bittersweet.”

“That once-in-a-lifetime purpose to wake up everyday and give 100 percent is now fueled toward something else, my family,” Bradley said. “I find my strength in them, my peace and, most importantly, unconditional love. I wake up wanting to spend all my time being a father, being a husband and being free. Although that square circle I lived to dance in every day gave me so many smiles and blessings, it could never outweigh the smiles and blessings I receive from my wife and children. It’s now my turn to support them and encourage them to live their dreams, and I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter. I hope to continue to allow boxing in my world through teaching, commentating and being a fan of a sport I love so dearly.”

“And to you, the diehard fans, man, it’s been one heck of a ride,” he said. “The bumps, the bruises, the peaks, the valleys, the days I didn’t want to get out of bed and the nights I couldn’t sleep. So many occasions where my heart, mind and soul were tested, but with every challenge there was hope and there was all of you, giving me the courage to fight another day and do what I loved to do.

“I can never find the words to convey how much I appreciate all of you and how truly humbled I am by the unconditional support the past 23 years. Thank you. Thank you for cheering me on when I didn’t deserve it, loving me most when I needed it and for being my heartbeat to keep going day after day. I am the man I am today because of you all.”

Silveira stops Clark, Aleksandra Lopes defeats Lisa Garland on points, Chris Traietti captures N.E. cruiserweight title

QUINCY, Mass. (August 6, 2017) – Former New England welterweight champion Derek “The Surgeon” Silveira defeated former world title challenger Michael “Cold Blood” Clark last night (Sat., Aug. 5) in the “Fight Night at the Bay” main event, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, at Marina Bay Sportplex in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Silveira (12-1, 6 KOs), of Salem MA) used his height and length advantage to out-box the much more experienced Clark (44-16-1, 18 KOs). Due to what appeared to be a broken right hand, Clark was unable to continue after six rounds.

After the fight, Silveira got done on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Ashley Myers. (She accepted).

“I want to thank Michael Clark,” Silveria commented. “My buddy Martin passed away and this fight was for him. We’re back and can go as long as needed because I’m in better shape. I’m a smart fighter and I can counter guys. I hope to be back fighting September 30 in Boston.”

Aleksandra Lopes (L) picked up a big win vs, Lisa Garland

In the co-featured event, three-time world title challenger Aleksandra Lopes (18-4-2, 1 KO) likely positioned herself for another world title shot, taking an eight-round decision from former world champion Lisa Garland (15-8, 8 KOs), winning all eight rounds on two judges’ scorecards and all but one on the other.

“It’s tough to judge,” said the Polish native who lives in nearby Marshfield (MA) regarding her position for another world title shot opportunity. “I hope so. I respect her but I felt that I should implement my sharper skills. She fought hard and came at me. I thought she’d go flat in the later rounds but she didn’t.

“I’m always tough on myself, Wayne (Lopes, her trainer and husband) was happy. I feel that I should have taken it to her more and I got caught up in clinches too much. The heat was difficult, I felt heated before the fight. I was more tired than usual and I let her come in winging wild punches.”

New N. E. Cruiserweight champion Chris Traietti

Iraq War veteran and Quincy’s favorite son, Chris Traietti (24-4, 19 KOs), who is also co-promoter of “Fight Night at the Bay”, pounded Nick Lavin (5-6, 4 KOs) from the opening bell to capture the vacant New England Cruiserweight Championship by way of a decisive eight-round unanimous decision. Traietti teed-off on the over-matched Lavin for most of the fight, but his tough Connecticut opponent lasted to the very end.

U.S. Marine veteran Brandon Montella (8-0, 7 KOs) remained unbeaten, registering three knockdowns against his Floridian opponent, light heavyweight “Money” Mike Sawyer (7-9, 5 KOs), in the second round, as referee Mike Ryan called the fight off right before the bell. Montella first put down Sawyer with a body shot, followed that with a straight right to the face, and Sawyer took a knee for his third trip to the canvas,
\
In an entertaining fight from start to finish, Whitman (MA) welterweight Mike “Bad Man” O’Han, Jr. (1-0) made his retired fighter father proud, defeating a game Daniel Amaro (0-2-1) by way of a four-round unanimous decision. O’Han, Jr. decked Amaro twice in the first round via perfectly placed left hooks but Amaro persevered and went the full distance.

Undefeated Irish junior middleweight Paddy Irwin (4-0, 3 KOs), fighting at home in Quincy, methodically broke-down Demetrius Thomas (0-5), dropping him with a right hand in the second round, and floored him with a flurry of punches en route to a third-round stoppage only moments later by referee Ryan.

Two-time Ecuador Olympian Carlos Gongora (9-0, 8 KOs), fighting out of Brooklyn (NY), thoroughly outclassed Texas journeyman Larry “Slow Motion” Smith (10-34-1, 7 KOs)by way of a fifth-round technical knockout. Gongora, a powerful southpaw promoted by Murphy’s Boxing, started the fight firing crisp combinations to the head and body of Smith, who took a knee for an eight-count in the opening round. The action slowed through the second and third frames, but Gongora picked up the pace in the fourth, as Smith took a knee again and survived another round. The undefeated Ecuadorian middleweight closed the snow in the fifth as referee Steve Clark halted the one-sided bout.

Defending ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes made quick work of Andrew Leone, submitting the American challenger with a rear-naked choke in the first frame of the much-awaited championship clash. It was the beginning of the end for Leone when Fernandes hammered a knee to the midsection that slumped his opponent to the mat. The 37-year-old Brazilian authored the final sequence by latching on the match-ending submission, keeping the prestigious gold-plated strap securely fastened around his waist. With the impressive victory over Leone, Fernandes has set an unprecedented ONE Championship record of seven successful title defenses, remaining unbeaten in the promotion.

Bibiano Fernandes, ONE Bantamweight World Champion, stated: “I feel great. I feel great, thank you Macao for having me. Thank you for my family in Canada and my family in Brazil who are watching me right now. I am here to stay. I welcome all challenges. I want to say thank you to Chatri [Sityodtong] and Matt Hume. I’m happy with ONE Championship. I want to continue fighting. Whoever I have to fight, I will accept. I am always ready!”

In the co-main event, Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes of Brazil defeated Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan via five-round unanimous decision to become the sole owner of the ONE Flyweight World Championship. Moraes, who previously held the interim title, controlled the majority of the action with his grappling while defending champion Akhmetov tried his best to fend off the Brazilian’s advances with his wrestling. On the feet, Moraes got the better of the exchanges and landed the harder blows. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Moraes, who unifies the flyweight titles to become the undisputed king of the division.

Adriano Moraes, ONE Flyweight World Champion, stated: “I’m not surprised [with the victory]. Thank you very much, one more time, for the opportunity, ONE Championship. I want to thank my coach, my family and my friends. I’m very grateful.”

Hard-hitting Russian featherweight Timofey Nastyukhin and former world title challenger Koji “The Commander” Ando of Japan figured in an incredibly tactical three-round matchup, with Nastyukhin coming away with a well-earned unanimous decision victory. After Ando nullified most of the action using his feints and pacing, Nastyukhin turned up the pressure in the second half of the contest, consistently landing the more telling blows. Both competitors unloaded their best offense in the final minute of the third round. All three judges saw the bout in favor of Nastyukhin.

Top lightweight contender Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai made quick work of India’s Rajinder Singh Meena, winning by knockout just moments into a scheduled three-round bout. The Bangkok Fight Lab mainstay authored one of his quickest finishes yet, landing a right knee flush to Meena’s head from the clinch. Referee Olivier Coste wasted no time in calling a halt to the contest once he realized Meena was completely out of it. The end came officially at 29 seconds of round number one, and is the fastest finish of Wiratchai’s career.

Undefeated Japanese veteran Hayato Suzuki made a successful ONE Championship promotional debut, thwarting former title challenger Joshua Pacio of the Philippines to win by first round submission. After Pacio missed slightly on a spinning back kick attempt, Suzuki capitalized by taking his back and dragging the Filipino to the ground. Although Pacio valiantly fought off Suzuki’s submission attempts, it was only a matter of time before the bout-ending sequence played out. In the end, Suzuki notched his first victory in the ONE Championship cage via rear naked choke, forcing the younger Pacio to tap out.

In a heated featherweight showdown between two top contenders, Kotetsu “No Face” Boku of Japan posted a thrilling technical knockout victory over Eric “The Natural” Kelly of Baguio City, Philippines, utilizing his exceptional boxing skill. Although Kelly was able to score on a couple of knockdowns by way of a monstrous right hand, Boku was never fazed and kept putting the pressure on the Filipino stalwart. In the third round, Boku took Kelly’s back and pounded on his opponent to earn the finish.

Highly-touted Chinese prospect “Rock Man” Chen Lei notched his sixth-straight triumph in his young professional martial arts career by submitting Malaysian standout Saiful “The Vampire” Merican in the third round. Leaning on his superb grappling pedigree, Chen overwhelmed with his takedowns and sustained sturdy top control on the canvas. Chen got the job done by compelling Merican to wave the white flag with a wrenching armbar in the last round of their three-round bantamweight collision.

Jomary Torres of the Philippines overcame insurmountable odds to mark the first blemish in the professional record of Thai martial arts superstar Rika “Tinydoll” Ishige. Torres had to endure the initial onslaught from Ishige, who wasted no time in taking her Filipina opponent to the ground, nearly scoring a submission finish via armbar. In the second round, Torres pulled off a gutsy rally, wobbling Ishige with lashing right hands. After dropping Ishige with another quick right cross, Torres followed Ishige to the mat and fastened a rear-naked choke to force the tap.

Leandro “Brodinho” Issa of Brazil made a triumphant return to ONE Championship by stopping Finnish martial artist Toni “Dynamite” Tauru inside of two rounds. Carrying his dominant momentum from the first round to the second, Issa staggered the former world title challenger with a left hook-right straight combination and drove him to the mat with a high-impact slam. On the ground, Issa zapped Tauru with big blows to force seasoned referee Yuji Shimada to step in and call a halt to the contest.

Magomed Idrisov of Russia kept his unblemished professional record intact at the expense of Herbert “The Blaze” Burns of Brazil, defeating the ONE Championship veteran in his promotional debut. Idrisov made sure to leave a lasting impression in his first outing under the ONE Championship banner, connecting on crisp combinations in the stand-up trade, while denying all of Burns’ takedown attempts. In the end, Idrisov’s masterful performance proved enough to earn him the undivided nod from the three judges at cageside.

Marcin Prachnio of Poland continued his winning roll inside the ONE Championship cage as he thwarted Brazilian submission specialist Gilberto “Giba” Galvao via first-round knockout. Prachnio, who had to brush off a hard overhand left from Galvao in the opening moments of the first frame, was able to sneak in a clean left straight to the chin of his opponent. As Galvao dropped to the canvas, Prachnio capitalized on the opportunity and pummeled his counterpart with ground strikes to secure the victory.

A tactical three-round middleweight bout served as the curtain-raiser contest for ONE: KINGS & CONQUERORS as Leandro Ataides of Brazil collided with Polish combatant Michal Pasternak in a battle of former world title contenders. With both men seeking to vie for gold once more, Ataides and Pasternak employed efficient strategies from bell to bell. Ataides utilized his speed and power to connect on a handful of thudding strikes on Pasternak, who responded with solid hooks, defending well against takedown attempts. After going back-and-forth for three rounds, Ataides was declared the victor by way of unanimous decision.

Pacquiao – Horn rematch could land in November

Manny Pacquiao exercised his rematch clause and could face Jeff Horn in November, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“Manny doesn’t want to retire. He wants the rematch, so we are going to do the rematch,” promoter Bob Arum told ESPN. “Manny told me he wants to do the rematch, but now we are looking for the window that satisfies the Senate. We need to see when they have a recess that will allow Manny the time he needs to train and have the fight.”

“Once I have an answer from the Senate when they have their recess, I will go to my partner in Australia, Duco [Events], and we will figure out where we’re going to do the fight,” Arum said. “[The state of] Queensland has certain rights from hosting the first fight, but we need to figure out where the fight will be. The problem is we can’t have it outdoors again because of the weather. November is the summer there, and it’s brutal to do it outdoors. We can’t do it. Even in July, which is their winter, it was pretty hot outdoors.”

Arum said venues in Brisbane and Sydney will be considered, and once the availability of venues is known, he will go to ESPN “and see if the date is in accord with the network’s schedule. But we’ll do the fight again with our partners at ESPN. The good thing is, in Australia they don’t mind if the fight is on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, so if it’s on a Saturday afternoon in Australia, it’s a Friday night in the United States.”

“I think the first fight was an excellent fight. It was competitive and [Horn] feels emboldened, and I think it will be a very good fight again,” Arum said. “And now Horn is known much more in the United States after that fight.”

DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT’S BROADWAY BOXING RETURNS TO FOXWOODS RESORT CASINO

New York City (August 4, 2017) DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT’s acclaimed BROADWAY BOXING series will return to the beautiful Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on Friday, September 15, 2017, headlined by an excellent 10-round clash between popular heavyweight prospect ALEXIS SANTOS (18-1, 15 KOs), of nearby Lawrence, Massachusetts, and cross-town rival, Ireland’s NIALL KENNEDY (8-0, 5 KOs), promoted by Ken Casey’s Boston-based Murphys Boxing. Broadway Boxing is presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, and Christos Steak House.

Tickets for the event, promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Murphys Boxing, priced at $125, $75 and $45 are Now On Sale and can be purchased online at Foxwoods.com, Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-200-2882, or visiting the Foxwoods box office. Foxwoods Resort Casino is located at 350 Trolley Line Boulevard, Mashantucket, Connecticut 06338. Doors will open to the Fox Theater at 7:00 p.m. ET with the first bell at 7:30 p.m. ET.

“I am happy to again bring Broadway Boxing back to our home away from home at Foxwoods Resort Casino,” said LOU DIBELLA, President of DiBella Entertainment. “The series at Foxwoods has seen a number of terrific heavyweight brawls of late and New England’s own Alexis Santos battling Ireland’s Niall Kennedy promises to be very entertaining. Popular local stars Shelly Vincent, a great ambassador for women’s boxing from Rhode Island, East Hartford up-and-coming unbeaten welterweight Mykquan Williams, and Nicholas DeQuattro, in his pro debut, will appear on the stacked undercard, along with undefeated New York cruiserweight prospect Joe Williams.”

The 27-year-old fan favorite Santos returns to Foxwoods Resort Casino on a five-bout winning streak highlighted by an eight-round unanimous decision over Jesse Barboza on November 19, 2016, in an action-packed bout from start to finish that had the crowd roaring throughout. With the victory, Santos seized the New England heavyweight championship.

Most recently Santos scored a first-round knockout of Andy Perez on February 24, 2017, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

“I’m thrilled to be fighting again at Foxwood Resort Casino,” said Santos. “The fan support for my first fight there last November was fantastic.

“Niall Kennedy has more amateur experience than I, but I’ve had more fights as a professional. It’s a great crossroads fight and I can’t wait for September 15.”

Backed by longtime member of Boston’s famed Dropkick Murphys, Ken Casey, Kennedy, a native of Gorey, West Ireland, has become a fan favorite among the city’s Irish population, with knockout victories on the last two annual St. Patrick’s Day cards. Before turning pro in May 2015, Kennedy accumulated an impressive 130-20 amateur record. He is trained by the renowned Paschal Collins, brother of former world champion Steve Collins, out of Celtic Warrior Boxing Gym in Dublin. In addition to his burgeoning boxing career, the 33-year-old has also worked as a police officer for the past 11 years.

In his last start, Kennedy finished off Barboza in the eighth round on March 18, 2017, to capture the Massachusetts heavyweight title, in Boston before a huge, festive crowd at the House of Blues.

Featured on the undercard on September 15 is junior lightweight contender SHELLY “SHELITO’S WAY” VINCENT (19-1, 1 KO), of nearby Providence, Rhode Island. Vincent will look to stay in the win column following an epic nationally televised battle with Heather Hardy on August 21, 2016, in Coney Island, New York, which resulted in her first loss. The Ring Magazine called their grudge match the “Female Fight of the Year” for 2016. Vincent was also honored by the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame as their “Fighter of the Year” for 2016, becoming the first female recipient of the award.

In her last bout, Vincent won an eight-round decision over Marquita Lee on December 2, 2016, in Lincoln, Rhode Island. This will be her seventh appearance at Foxwoods. Managed by Mike Criscio and trained by Peter Manfredo Sr., Vincent signed with DiBella Entertainment in 2016.

Just 19 years old, fast rising East Hartford welterweight prospect MYKQUAN WILLIAMS (7-0, 4 KOs) will look to stay undefeated as he makes his seventh start at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Promoted by DiBella Entertainment and managed by Jackie Kallen, Williams returns to the ring following an impressive six-round decision over veteran Ariel Vasquez on June 3. Williams is trained out of Manchester Ring of Champions Society boxing gym by local legend and community leader Paul Cichon, whom he’s known since he was a child and looks upon as a surrogate father. His biological father was murdered when Mykquan was just a week old. Williams was a decorated amateur with a 45-13 record, highlighted by three gold-medal performances at the Ringside World Championships, in addition to winning the PAL Tournament and Silver Gloves Championships.

Heralded cruiserweight prospect JOE “MACK” WILLIAMS (12-0, 8 KOs), of Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, fights for the first time at Foxwoods Resort Casino looking to capitalize on his quick start to 2017 with two dominant victories, most recently knocking out Felipe Romero in the third round on April 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Promoted by DiBella Entertainment and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, the 29-year-old Williams began this year by making his national television debut on February 10, handing 15-0-1 Dominican Olympian Lenin Castillo his first defeat by way of eight-round decision, competing on SHOWTIME’s “ShoBox” series. As an amateur, Williams was a three-time New York Golden Gloves champion, a 2012 National Golden Gloves champion, and a 2012 US Olympic team alternate. When he’s not boxing, Williams, a father of two daughters, works as an asbestos handler and is a union member with Local 78.

Rounding out the undercard, junior welterweight NICKY DEQUATTRO of Johnston, Rhode Island, will make his highly anticipated pro debut.

Additional information on the undercard will be announced shortly.

Broadway Boxing is presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, and Christos Steak House.

Herrera decisions Soto Karass in a war

In what was expected to be an all-out war, the fight lived up to the billing as Mauricio Herrera took a ten-round majority decision over Jesus Soto Karass in an action packed welterweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, California

In round nine, Herrera was cut over his right eye. the two battled toe-to-toe down the stretch with each fighter getting as good as they were giving, which was much to the delight to the fans. In the end, it was Herrera who took two cards at 96-94 while a 3rd card read even at 95-95.

Herrera, 145.8 lbs of Riverside, CA is now 24-7. Soto Karass, 146 lbs of Los Mochis, MX is 28-12-4.

“Give me two months, and I’ll be back,” said Mauricio Herrera. “I felt like I started out strong, landing my jab, and was controlling the fight smart. By the end of the fight, I was standing a bit more and landing more of the obvious open shots.”

Herrera continued, “I will give him the later rounds, because I do feel that he came in strong; however I feel like overall my team played a strong clean, fight. I knew he was coming off a long lay-off, so I knew he was going to come in at 110 percent and just as good as he was before he took a year off. I can’t wait to get back in the ring.”

“I feel like an injustice was just committed,” said Jesus Soto Karass. “So much hard work that went into this. I had to drop 40 pounds to be able to take this fight, and my team and I feel like all the runs up Mt. Baldy, diet restrictions, and the work that we displayed in the ring tonight should have merited the win.”

Soto Karass continued, “At the end of the day, as I have said before, the people who won today was the public who enjoyed and supported us. At this height of my career, I have to go back to my family, and we are going to have to make some tough decisions. Above all though I am content and am happy that I took this fight.”

Vyacheslav Shabranskyy stopped Todd Unthank-May after round seven of a scheduled ten round light heavyweight bout.

In round two, Unthank-May was cut around the left eye from a right hand. Shabranskyy was cut around the right eye a round later.

Shabranskyy started belting the tough-chinned Unthank-May was countless power shots and the fight was stopped in the corner after round seven.

Shabranskyy, 174.8 lbs of Los Angeles is now 19-1 with 16 knockouts. Unthank-May, 174.4 lbs of Philadelphia is 10-1-1.

“I’m happy to have my belt back,” said Vyacheslav Shabranskyy. “I learned a lot from my fight against Barrera, and I’ve been working on moving my head and body a lot more. He was a tough guy. I have 20 fights in my career, and I am ready to start taking on bigger fights again.”

Nico Valdes went the distance for the first time, but remained undefeated by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Jaime Solorio in a super middleweight bout.

Valdes, 163.8 lbs of Miami won by scores of 60-54 and 59-55 twice, and is now 6-0. Solorio, 165 lbs of San Quintin, MX is 7-4-2.

“At the end of the day, I have to do what I have to do to win and sometimes that won’t look very pretty or impress the crowd,” said Niko Valdes. “His face looks a lot worse than mine, the only reason he looked like he was winning was because he was applying more pressure than me. I still won

Bryan Vasquez will face Ray Beltran on Saturday Night under the Roy Jones Jr. Promotions Banner

Las Vegas, NV (August 4, 2017) – Bryan Vasquez will face Ray Beltran on Saturday, August 5th at he Microsoft Theater.

The former featherweight phenom turned instant lightweight top contender Bryan Vasquez (35-2) has an undeniably extensive resume. Bryan has been involved in 9 title fights and maintains an impressive 7-2 record in such affairs.

Vasquez vanquished Jose Gutierrez (11-2-2) just under a decade ago to capture his first WBA Featherweight Title. Then he won 10 straight before acquiring the WBA Super Featherweight strap. Bryan battered Santos Martinez (21-9-3) in that contest via lopsided decision.

A trend was setting for Vasquez when just four months removed from winning his last belt, he would add to his collection. Another blowout decision over a formidable opponent in Alan Herrera (25-2) lead to more gold and a World Title opportunity.

Bryan was almost perfect in his toughest test, losing only a round to Santos Benavides (23-2-2) and won the WBA World Super Featherweight Title. Vasquez would successfully defend the strap by way of 9th round TKO over Jorge Lacierva (41-8-6). It wasn’t until a trip to Japan and his 30th fight that Bryan would taste defeat.

Vasquez would rebound emphatically and recapture the WBA World Super Featherweight title in a technical decision win against Rene Gonzalez (31-5-1). Then Bryan would defend his strap twice, via decision against Jose Felix Jr. (27-0-1) then by way of TKO in the 9th against Sergio Thompson (30-3).

Now Vasquez will move up to challenge for the WBO-NABO Lightweight and NABF Lightweight Title this Saturday Night at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. He will take on Raymundo Beltran (33-7-1) who is riding a 4 fight KO streak that is resurrecting his career. Beltran has beaten Ivan Najera (16-2) in the 2nd, Miguel Mendoza (23-8-2) in the 5th, Mason Menard (32-1) in the 7th and Jonathan Maicelo (25-2) in the 2nd.

Can Bryan put the breaks on the surging Beltran and add to his collection of championships?

EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S REAL DEAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS TOP CRUISERWEIGHT PROSPECT FABIO TURCHI!!

New York City (August 4, 2017) Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Sports and Entertainment has signed top undefeated cruiserweight prospect FABIO “Stone Crusher” TURCHI, (12-0-0, 9 KO’s) of Florence, Italy, it was announced today by their COO, Eric Bentley and Turchi’s Italian promoter Mario Loreni.

Stated Bentley about the signing, “Real Deal Sports & Entertainment continues to scour the globe for the best talent, and we believe Fabio is a diamond in the rough. We are excited to work with Mario Loreni to develop Fabio into a world champion, and hopefully he is the first of many that we can co-promote with one another. Fabio is an incredible talent with a stellar amateur career and is on the fast-track to make noise in a loaded Cruiserweight division. Who better to learn from than the greatest cruiserweight in the history of the sport, co-owner of our company, Evander Holyfield.”

Said Turchi, “Coming to the United States and fighting under the “Real Deal” banner is a dream come true, for me. When I was a young kid, and I couldn’t fight as I was too young, I used to enjoy the boxing games at the Playstation – and I ALWAYS picked Evander Holyfield. Now, years later, I can work alongside the real Evander… that’s really a dream come true.”

“Evander Holyfield is, by far, the best cruiserweight in boxing history: every other boxer can only hope to become the second one after him. I am confident that, under his guidance, I can properly work toward this goal and, hopefully, achieve it.”

“I am happy and excited about this partnership,” said Loreni. “Fabio Turchi has all of the tools to become a world champion and we all will work hard to help him make it – from both sides of the Ocean.”

Following a very highly decorated amateur career, Turchi has turned heads quickly since turning professional two years ago with his crowd pleasing knockouts in his native country.

Most recently the 24-year-old Turchi knocked out veteran Cesar David Crenz in the fourth round on July 15, 2017, earning the vacant WBC International Silver Cruiserweight Title.

Amassing a stellar amateur record of 106 wins and only 9 losses, Turchi was a four-time winner of the Italian Championships (2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013), a Silver Medalist in the 2011 Youth Olympics in Singapore and a Silver Medalist in the 2014 Military World Championships in Kazakhstan. He was also the Bronze Medalist at the 2010 World Youth Championships and Gold Medalist in the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Turkey.

SMITH v WILLIAMS REMATCH LANDS IN NEWCASTLE

After their epic first encounter ended in controversial fashion, former WBO World Super Welterweight Champion Liam Smith and reigning British Super Welterweight Champion Liam Williams, will aim to settle the score on neutral ground at Newcastle’s Metro Arena, in a WBO World Title Eliminator on Saturday 28th October, simulcast live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

The fight lands in Newcastle after neither man was willing to concede home advantage after their thrilling first encounter back in April; a fight in which both men felt they claimed the upper hand.

On the night, Liverpool man Smith claimed the win after Williams’ trainer Gary Lockett deemed that the Welshman could not continue after being badly cut by a clash of heads. However Williams felt he had built up a large lead at the point the fight was stopped and tempers have flared ever since about the controversial circumstances of the fight’s ending, with Smith instead believing that the cut prevented him from seizing an inevitable late stoppage in the fight.

Promoter Frank Warren said ‘I’m delighted to bring this huge rematch to Newcastle which is a city with a rich tradition of big fight nights. In the past I have bought shows with Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, Nigel Benn and Prince Nasseem Hamed to Newcastle and I’m sure this is set to rival the very best that we’ve done there.

This fight has been highly anticipated since the first encounter, in which the fans and fighters were robbed of a conclusive ending by the clash of heads. The first was a barnstormer up to that point and I’m sure the rematch will be even better. The fight will serve as a WBO Super Welterweight World Title Eliminator, in which the winner is set to get a shot against the winner of the forthcoming Cotto v Kamegai match, which is contesting the vacant belt. This huge incentive, along with the added spice of domestic bragging rights, means a lot is riding on this fight for both men.’

The undercard at Metro Arena is set to feature some of the very best emerging local North East talent, as well as some other excellent young fighters from further afield.

Country Durham’s Thomas Patrick Ward (20-0) will defend his British Super Bantamweight Championship against Brimingham’s Sean Davis (13-1-0); whilst Guisborough’s Josh Leather (12-0) will face Sunderland’s Glen Foot (20-1-0) in a what is set to be a pulsating North East Derby for the IBF European Super Lightweight Championship.

Ricky Hatton trained Nathan Gorman (Natwich, 10-0) will face Nick Webb (Chertsey, 11-0) for the English Heavyweight Championship in another showdown where someone’s ‘0’ is set to go. Mark Heffron (Oldham, 16-0) another of Ricky Hatton’s excellent young stable of fighters, will also be in action on the card.

In addition, local prospects Troy Williamson (Darlington, 3-0) Kalam Leather (Guisborough, 2-0) Joe Maphosa (Thornaby, 1-0) Michael Watson (Sedgefield, Pro debut) and Jeff Saunders (11-0) of Sedgefield will all appear on the bill.

A press conference and ticket information will follow within the next fortnight.

Gray makes long-awaited welterweight debut Sept. 16th

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Aug. 4th, 2017) — After establishing his presence as one of the top junior middleweights in the region, Worcester, Mass., slugger Khiary Gray is ready to test his skills at 147 pounds with a major statement in his opening bout.

The hard-hitting Gray (14-3, 11 KOs) makes his welterweight debut Saturday, Sept. 16th, 2017 live on FITE Pay Per View at Twin River Casino against dangerous Union City, N.J., vet Juan Rodriguez Jr. (13-4, 5 KOs) in the eight-round main event of CES Boxing’s fourth installment of the 2017 Twin River Fight Series.

The Gray-Rodriguez main event headlines a stacked 12-fight card that also features a junior middleweight battle between New Bedford, Mass., vet Ray Oliveira Jr. (7-1, 1 KO) and unbeaten Meriden, Conn., native David Wilson (5-0-1, 1 KO), plus the highly-anticipated return of undefeated Providence, R.I., lightweight Anthony Marsella Jr. (5-0, 2 KOs) and 6-foot-4 Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano (11-1, 9 KOs).

Tickets are priced at $47.00, $102.00, $127.00 (VIP) and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

The entire 12-fight card also airs live in its entirety on FITE TV Pay Per View for $14.99 beginning at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.

Coming off a loss to Greg Vendetti on June 9th, the resilient Gray will now test the waters in the welterweight division, starting out strong against the veteran Rodriguez Jr., who last fought in August of 2016, dethroning 20-fight vet Alex Perez by split decision.

Rodriguez Jr. is best known for his epic July of 2015 bout against Rhode Island’s Nick DeLomba in which he sent DeLomba to the canvas in the opening round before getting stopped in the fifth. Gray, despite losses in three of his last four bouts, owns a lifetime 10-2 record at Twin River and headlines for the sixth time in his fast-rising career.

While Gray-Rodriguez provides excitement and the potential for fireworks in the welterweight division, Oliveira-Wilson could steal the show as yet another tough test for both stellar junior middleweights. Coming off his first career loss in April, Oliveira Jr. jumps right back into the fire in a six-round bout against the dangerous Wilson, who battled to a draw with unbeaten Kendrick Ball Jr. in his last bout in July of 2016.

Speaking of Ball Jr. (7-0-2, 5 KOs), the 24-year-old Worcester middleweight returns for the 10th time in just 16 months on Sept. 16th when he battles Durham, N.C., vet Pablo Velez Jr. (7-1-1, 5 KOs) in a six-round bout. Ball Jr.’s last four opponents boast a combined record of 16-1-3, including previously unbeaten Godson Noel, whom Ball Jr. defeated in June.

The Sept. 16th undercard also includes several intrastate rivalries and regional showdowns, among them a four-round featherweight bout between Jonathan Perez (2-1-2, 2 KOs) of Lawrence, Mass., and unbeaten Providence native Ricky Delossantos (2-0), plus a potential four-round showstopper in the welterweight division between Stoughton, Mass., native Travis Demko (4-1, 1 KO) and fellow Massachusetts native Marqus Bates (2-1, 2 KOs) of Taunton.

Super featherweight Michael Valentin (1-0, 1 KO) of Providence, who debuted with a sensational first-round knockout win in June, returns to face newcomer Henry Garcia of New Bedford in a four-round bout and Providence featherweight Phil Dudley (1-0) locks horns with Worcester’s Philip Davis (0-1), also in a four-round bout. In the cruiserweight division, Worcester’s Jake Paradise makes his professional debut against fellow newcomer Rafiel Nyakoko, also of Worcester, in a four-round showcase bout.

Also on the undercard, Groton, Conn., bantamweight Marcia Agripino (1-0-1) ends a four-year layoff she faces New York vet Federica Bianco (2-1, 1 KO), a full time astrophysicist and research scientist at New York University. Agripino last fought in Rhode Island in 2013, defeating Vanessa Greco in her pro debut.

Cusumano and Marsella Jr. will also be featured on the undercard in separate six-round bouts. Marsella Jr. faced his toughest test to date in June, picking himself up off the canvas in the fifth round against Texan Abraham Torres before coasting to a unanimous decision win, his fourth in a row at Twin River.

Cusamano, originally from Sicily and now living and training in Virginia, made his Rhode Island and CES Boxing debut in grand fashion in June, sending Dan Biddle to the canvas three times in the second round before referee Eddie Claudio stopped the bout with 24 seconds to go. Cusumano has now won nine consecutive bouts, seven by knockout.

Fight fans can stream the event live on their television by downloading the FITE app free from iTunes or Google Play and using the instant stream-to-TV function for full-screen viewing, or watch online from any device at www.fite.tv. The FITE app also works with any Wi-Fi connected TV, iOS and Android devices, as well as streaming devices such as Roku, Chromecast and more. LOMACHENKO OUT TO TAKE ON THE BIGGEST NAMES BUT MUST FIRST GET PAST MARRIAGA CHALLENGE LIVE ON BOXNATION

LONDON (4 August) – Pound-for-pound star Vasyl Lomachenko insists he only wants to face the biggest names in order to cement his place in boxing history.

The reigning WBO super-featherweight world champion takes on Colombian big-hitter Miguel Marriaga this Saturday night from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, exclusively live on BoxNation.

He will be looking to impress against the experienced Marriaga, who has never been stopped in 27 fights, before eventually turning his attention to any elite fighters in the 130-pound division, as he looks to leave his mark in the sport.

“The biggest thing for me is I want to fight top, top fighters in the weight class that I am now fighting in. That is my biggest goal. Then maybe it is different weight classes,” said Lomachenko.

“I want to be in the history books of boxing – I want my name to be mentioned when people talk about the history of boxing. “Most important for me is to fight the best – where the fight means something – fans want it – people want to see it. I want to be on top of the list,” he said.

Following his unanimous points win over Adrien Broner last weekend, undefeated and three-weight world champion Mikey Garcia has been touted as a potential blockbuster opponent but the Ukrainian was left unimpressed at what he saw.

“His trainer Robert Garcia mentioned that Mikey is an A-Class fighter. I hadn’t seen anything during that bout that showed me he was an outstanding fighter.

“Yes, he won the fight. Yes, he did everything he needed to win the fight, but I haven’t seen anything outstanding and I haven’t seen him being an A-Class fighter,” said Lomachenko.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist was hoping to rematch Orlando Salido, a split decision loss in only his second fight as a professional when he challenged for the WBO featherweight title, before talks collapsed and Marriaga was chosen as an opponent.

30-year-old Marriaga has 21 knockouts in his 25 wins, with his only two defeats being on points to top fighters Oscar Valdez and Nicholas Walters.

Lomachenko is well aware of the threat he possesses and is not overlooking the man known as ‘The Scorpion’.

“I did see his bout against Oscar Valdez and what can I tell about him? He is strong and his conditioning is good. He has skills, so what everybody else thinks is going to be easy, I don’t think it is going to be easy for me,” he said.

The card also sees Raymundo Beltran back in action when he faces Bryan Vasquez in a lightweight contest.

Lomachenko v Marriaga is live on BoxNation this Saturday night from 2am. Buy now at boxnation.com.

NIKKI ADLER vs. CLARESSA SHIELDS FINAL WEIGHTS, QUOTES

DETROIT (Aug. 3, 2017) – WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Nikki Adler and hometown favorite, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields officially made weight on Thursday, one day before they headline a doubleheader tomorrow/Friday, Aug. 4 on ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME® (10:30 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from MGM Grand Detroit.

Shields (3-0, 1 KO) tipped the scales at 165 ¼ pounds with the champion Adler (16-0, 9 KOs) of Germany coming in at 166 pounds even. In the ShoBox co-feature, world-ranked super bantamweight Vladimir Tikhonov (15-0, 9 KOs) of Russia will face Jesse Hernandez (8-1, 6 KOs) of Fort Worth, Texas, in an eight-round bout. Both fighters weighed in at 123 ¼ pounds.

Shields’ good friend and newly crowned UFC Featherweight World Champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino was on hand Thursday and will walk Shields into the ring on Friday. Also in attendance at the weigh-in was a potential future Shields’ opponent, five-time world champion Christina Hammer, who is undefeated at 21-0 and currently holds the WBC and WBO Middleweight titles.

Justino and Hammer met with the media in a forum moderated by Shields’ co-manager Mark Taffet before the weigh-in.

“I never thought it would happen, that the sports of MMA and boxing would come together like it has with the upcoming Mayweather-McGregor fight,” said Justino, the former Strikeforce and Invicta FC champion. “I think it’s great and incredible and could possibly open the door for other fights between the sports.”

“I’m looking forward to watching Claressa win the fight tomorrow night,” said Hammer. “I want to see her keep winning so we can fight one day. I only want to fight the best and she seems to be one of the best.”

Tickets for the event promoted by Salita Promotions are on sale now and are priced at $350, $250, $125 and $60. They will be available at www.ticketmaster.com.

Programming Note: Episode 2 of ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. McGregor will air Friday night before the ShoBox telecast at 10 p.m. ET/PT. To watch an exclusive clip of the episode, click here: http://s.sho.com/2u8OxWK.

OFFICIAL WEIGHTS:
Nikki Adler: 166 Pounds
Claressa Shields: 165¼ Pounds

Vladimir Tikhonov: 123¼ Pounds
Jesse Angel Hernandez: 123¼ Pounds

FINAL QUOTES:

NIKKI ADLER:
“This fight is very big in Germany, and I know there will be a lot of eye on me. It will be 4:30 in the morning, but there will be live streaming and viewing parties.

“I’m going to be defensive in the early going and know that Claressa is going to come forward. I want to get the fight into the later rounds. It’s 10 rounds of boxing and there will be lots of action.

“I know I will be tough to knock out and have no plans of going down. Claressa has gotten all the hype so far and she wants to put on a show for her fans. I’m going to do everything I can to send those fans home upset after I beat her and carry those belts out of the ring.

“This is my second fight with my trainer Rene [Friese]. I wanted to train with the best and I need a trainer who had worked with the top fighters.

“My trainer has really been stressing strategies. We have a lot of them. The game plan is simple: Win the fight.

“Fighting for the first time in the United States is going to be amazing. I’ve only fought in Russia and Germany, so to be here in a main event on SHOWTIME is really special.”

CLARESSA SHIELDS:
“I feel like I’m a lot healthier and hydrated than I did fighting at 160. I’m not sluggish. I used a chef who prepared my meals for the first time and I feel great.

“I’ve known about Nikki Adler and Christina Hammer for a long time. I like both of the girls, but when it comes to getting in the ring it’s all about business.

“Technically I see that [Nikki] is very poised and calm. She’s patient, but not too patient.

“Even though she may be the bigger fighter, I know I’m the aggressor. I think I can get her out in six rounds.

“Of course everyone wants to get the big knockout, but I haven’t found the right punch that gets the girls knocked out. I’m young so I know it will come.

“I’m glad Cyborg is here to support me. She hits hard and we’ve sparred. She’s strong and she is fast. She’s picked up a lot from me, and I’ve learned from her. She’s the most feared MMA fighter, and I’m most feared in boxing. So it’s great for both women’s sports.”

VLADIMIR TIKHONOV:
“This is my first time ever in America. I’m pretty impressed with it. There’s so much to do and see, but I can’t let distractions get in the way.

“I’ve been here for about a month training at Kronk Gym. Russian fighters are known for being very disciplined, and we know the opportunity that is in front of us. There is no room for slip ups and to get lazy. This is my big shot and I’m going to take advantage of it.

“The sparring has been the biggest thing. I’ve been sparring with pros and amateurs. It’s so much more powerful here and the variety is something I would never get at home.

“I can box and I can brawl. Whatever I have to do to get the win.”

JESSE HERNANDEZ:
“I had a layoff of about five years and worked construction jobs because I had to pay the bills, but now I’m back and focused on boxing.

“In the past I’ve been known to be too aggressive, so I’m going to try and slow things down and be a more tactical boxer.

“I have six brothers who were professional boxers and I’ve learned from them. My nickname is ‘The One’ because now I’m the only left fighting.

“I’m the youngest of 15 children, all with the same parents. We are a very close family.

“I’m a natural right-hander and I’m ready to fight a lefty like Tikhonov. I’ve fought some southpaws and I’ve been sparring with lefties.

“He’s undefeated for a reason. I don’t think he’s been in there with someone as tough as I am; as aggressive as I am.”

RENE FRIESE, Adler’s trainer
“We came all the way over here to bring home the belts back to Germany.

“We have our plan and our strategy in place. We are ready for this fight.”

JASON CRUTCHFIELD, Shields’ trainer
“There hasn’t been much smack talking for this fight. I told her you need to let your fists do your talking. Your mouth can’t help you in the ring.

“We are ready for 10 rounds. I’m not going to say it’s hard; it’s doable. It’s her first time doing it. We’ve trained for it and she’s been 10 rounds in training three or four times.”
