2016 Olympic bronze medalist Nico Hernandez returns to headline “Rapid Fire” in Kansas

PARK CITY, Kansas (May 1, 2017) – 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Nico Hernandez returns to the ring on Saturday, June 17, at home in Wichita for his second professional fight. “KO Night Boxing: Rapid Fire” will air (10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT) on CBS Sports Network live from Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas.

Wichita native Hernandez will face unbeaten Mexican flyweight Jose Rodriquez (2-0, 2 KOs)in the six-round main event.

In his professional debut on March 25th, Hernandez turned in an impressive performance, entertaining nearly 3,200 passionate Kansas fans as he defeated Patrick Gutierrez in the fourth round of the main event. The fight was also televised on CBS Sports Network.

The 21-year-old Hernandez displayed tremendous poise and a few tweaks to his amateur style, adding a devastating body attack, in addition to effectively switching from his orthodox stance to southpaw at times.

“I feel that there will be even more people there this fight than at my pro debut,” Hernandez said. “I live only a 10 to 15-minute drive from Hartman Arena, north of Wichita.

“I worked hard on body punching for my pro debut. I didn’t do that in the amateurs (no scoring points) and I’m getting use to switching to southpaw. Both were in our game plan and successful in my firsts fight. I’m excited to get right back in the ring, especially at home. Our plan is to fight every two to three months and have a total of four fights this year.”

“KO Night Boxing: Rapid Fire” is a presentation of KO Night Boxing LLC.

“Gutierrez was the perfect opponent for Nico’s pro debut,” commented John Andersen, who promotes Hernandez as well as the June 17th show. “He was tough but now it’s time to step it up a little against a 2-0 opponent with two knockouts. Nico is starting to climb the ladder to get him where we want him to go. We need to move him quicker than an average fighter, largely due to his amateur background, and he’ll probably have only one more six-round bout after this before moving him up to eight.

“I thought he looked a little nervous in his pro debut at the start, but that’s expected for a fighter making his pro debut at home in front of nearly 3,200 people, and after that he was great. We couldn’t have asked for anything more and he did get in some rounds that will be helpful.

“This fight will be close to where Nico lives. Nico really connects to kids in the community, often speaking at local schools, and this is the perfect opportunity for parents to bring their children to watch him fight on a weekend night.

“We’re calling this show, ‘Rapid Fire,’ primarily because of Nico’s exciting style, firing crisp combinations in rapid succession, in addition to his activity level as he comes right back to fight so quickly.”

Hernandez’ father and head trainer, Lewis Hernandez, believes fans will see a more improved, well-rounded fighter in this fight. “Nico showed his body punching and he switched around a little to fight lefthanded,” he explained, “which weren’t part of his boxing style in the amateurs. Fans will see the fighter Nico really is but this fight he’ll get back to boxing more. I told him that he needed to go to the body as a professional fighter but that each punch doesn’t have to be as hard. Sometimes I need to remind him of that because he’s a fighter at heart.

“I knew he’d be okay in his pro debut (nerves-wise) because he gets going as the fight goes on. When he hurts his opponent, he comes on even stronger. I just tell him to box and be himself. He’s always well-conditioned so he can go rounds without a problem. I want him to be fast and elusive to take away his opponents’ body and then, in later rounds, go back to boxing. He fought at 115-pounds but he’ll be back to 112 for this fight. Nico was strong at 115 and he’ll be very strong at flyweight.”

A 29-year-old native of Mexico who fights out of Markesan, Wisconsin, Rodriguez (2-0, 2 KOs) has two first-round knockouts in a pair of pro fights. Rodriguez is trained by four-time world title challenger Angel Manfredy, whose invaluable experience from fighting Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Stevie Johnston and Diego Corrales certainly aids his fighter. Manfredy (43-8-1, 32 KOs) had statement victories over Arturo Gatti, Julio Diaz and Ivan Robinson, among the more notables.

Additional “KO Night Boxing: Rapid Fire” fights will soon be announced. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets go on special pre-sale Wednesday, May 3, and general sales Friday, May 5, at the Hartman Arena box office and http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/060052A193761C74. Two-Time Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs & Three-Time Title Challenger Fres Oquendo Battle for WBA Championship Saturday, June 3 at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (May 1, 2017) – Two-time world heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs and three-time title challenger Fres Oquendo will battle for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Backyard Brawl: Briggs vs. Oquendo taking place on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. Doors open at 6 p.m. with first fight at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

One of boxing’s most popular and larger-than-life personalities who fights in its resurgent glamor division, Briggs’ self-made brand and boxing acumen has helped him land several world title fights since 1998. On June 3, the 45-year-old Briggs will bring a five-fight knockout streak into the ring as he attempts to make history by matching the likes of two-time world heavyweight champion George Foreman. The oldest heavyweight champion ever, Foreman won his final heavyweight championship at the age of 45.

“Fighting for the WBA Heavyweight Championship against Fres Oquendo is a wonderful opportunity and true privilege,” said Briggs. “Being able to fight at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in front of my hometown fans and right in my backyard is extremely exciting. I’m working very hard right now with some great sparring partners that are pushing me to the limit. Fight night will be a long one for Fres Oquendo. I want to dedicate this fight to my children, my family, all of my fans and to all of the people around the world who have suffered from depression. I’m living proof that you can make it. Don’t give up. LET’S GO CHAMP!”

Returning to the ring after a disputed defeat to Ruslan Chagaev in a 2014 title fight, Oquendo is co-promoted by future Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr.’s Square Ring Promotions and Hitz Boxing as he looks to become the first heavyweight champion from Puerto Rico since John Ruiz in 2001.

“This will be a great fight between two veteran American fighters,” said Oquendo. “I’ve fought in Miami five times, plus, I train at the historic 5th Street Gym in Miami Beach, so I’m very comfortable here. The trials and tribulations I’ve encountered for 30 years in this sport and 20 as a professional, are finally coming to fruition. They say third time is the charm, but the fourth is the holy grail and the most special. I’m dedicating this fight to Jaxon King, my friend’s son who just passed away at five years of age. I’m also doing this for my mentor, Muhammad Ali. Winning his belt on the anniversary of his passing will be special. I’m going to borrow the belt for a bit and give it back when I’m done beating Shannon.”

Less than 30 miles from the Miami Beach Convention Center that hosted the 1964 Fight of the Year between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston, Briggs and Oquendo will look to ignite the passions of the rabid boxing fans in South Florida as they seek a piece of the championship crown and move closer to the ultimate goal of unifying the heavyweight division.

“We’re extremely excited about bringing this WBA Heavyweight World Championship fight to Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino,” said Kris Lawrence, founder of The Heavyweight Factory. “We’re really proud of Shannon Briggs, who has a chance to tie George Foreman’s record and become a champion for a third time. It is truly amazing for a heavyweight like Shannon to have lasted and preserved himself for so long. He was champion in two different decades. First in 1997 and then 2006. Now in 2017, he has the chance to do it again. We hope to see everyone coming out and supporting Shannon Briggs the night of the fight, as he is the ‘People’s Champ.’ LET’S GO CHAMP!”

Briggs has made South Florida his home and training camp for much of his career. He will be making his fourth start at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and his ninth in the state.

Representing the boxing hotbed of Brooklyn, Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs) seeks the third heavyweight world title in his long and eventful career. Briggs became a world champion in 2006 when he scored a 12th round stoppage of Siarhei Liakhovich. Briggs has faced the best heavyweights in the world and won the lineal heavyweight world title from George Foreman in 1997. He also defeated Ray Mercer in 2005, in addition to world title challenges of Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko. He enters this fight as the winner of his last nine contests, including eight knockouts and a 12-round decision over Raphael Zumbano Love.

Originally from Puerto Rico and fighting out of Chicago throughout his pro career, Oquendo (37-8, 24 KOs)looks to capitalize on his fourth opportunity and capture a world title. The slick-boxer has faced a slew of top heavyweights throughout his career, including narrow decision losses to Evander Holyfield and James Toney, plus title challenges of Chris Byrd and John Ruiz. The 44-year-old owns recent victories over Derric Rossy and Joey Abell in addition to triumphs over Clifford Etienne, David Izon and Javier Mora.

Briggs vs. Oquendo Fight Week promises to excite with week-long events that will lead up to this historic night. Among the boxing royalty invited to Fight Week and Fight Night are Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones Jr, Michael Moorer, Riddick Bowe and more.

Ticket prices are $75, $100, $150, $250 and $500; ringside seats are sold for $1,000; ringside tables with six seats are $5,500 and 10 seats are $11,000 (plus a $5 Facility Maintenance fee applies). “Our team here at Golden Boy Promotions has been working with Flipps Media for over a year now and we are thrilled that they are helping make this ‘can’t miss fight’ available to an even wider boxing fan base,” said Golden Boy Promotions Founder and CEO, Oscar De La Hoya.

The “Canelo vs. Chavez, Jr.” PPV card is loaded with exciting knockout artists, with eight of the main card fighters having a combined record of 272-18-2 with 194 knockouts, highlighted by the Alvarez-Chavez, Jr. cumulative record of 98-3-2 with 66 stoppages.

Alvarez vs. Chavez, Jr. is one of the most anticipated fights, easily a Fight of the Year candidate, featuring two of the highest-profile Mexican warriors, fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Twenty-six year-old Alvarez (40-1-1, 34 KOs) is the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) world junior middleweight and The Ring magazine middleweight champion. The wildly popular fighter is moving up in weight to fight Chavez, Jr., who has dropped back down from light heavyweight.

Alvarez is 10-1 (6 KOs) in world title bouts, in addition to being 11-1 (4 KOs) in fights against current or past world champions: Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Miguel Vasquez (twice), Carlos Manuel Baldomir, Lovemore N’dou, Kermit Cintron, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara and Liam Smith.

The son of legendary Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, Chavez, Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight world champion. He has defeated world champions such as Carlos Molina, Sebastian Zbik and Andy Lee during his 13 ½ year professional career.

In his first pro loss, Chavez Jr. lost a 12-round decision to Sergio Gabriel Martinez, who survived a final round knockdown as Chavez tried to finish off the famed Argentinian.

The 10-round co-feature also has explosive potential as middleweights David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) and Marcos “Dorado” Reyes (35-4, 26 KOs) have a higher combined knockout percentage than Alvarez-Chavez. Jr.

Lemieux, 28, is a highly skilledfighter from Montreal and a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight world champion. He is 12-1 in his last 13 fights, since his loss to unified world middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

At stake for Lemieux is a possible throw-down with “Canelo” later this year. The Canadian slugger has quality victories over Curtis Stevens, Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, Gabe Rosado, Fernando Guerrero. Lemieux is currently world rated among the top seven middleweights by all four major sanctioning bodies – WBO & WBC #4, WBA #5 and IBF #7 — as well as No. 3 by (independent) The Ring.

Reyes, fighting out of Chihuahua, Mexico, went thedistance in 2015 with Chavez, Jr., in a loss by way of 10-round unanimous decision. Reyes is a former WBC FECOMBOX middleweight and Mexican light middleweight champion.

Former Interim WBC super lightweight champion Lucas “La Maquina” Matthysse (37-4, 34 KOs) returns to action for the first time since October 3, 2015 against Maryland welterweight Emmanuel “Tranzformer” Taylor (20-4, 14 KOs).

Matthysse is a fan-favorite fighter, power-puncher from Argentina. His signature victories have been against former world champions Ruslan Provodnikov, Lamont Peterson, Humberto Soto, DeMarcus Corley and Vivian Harris

Taylor was a decorated American amateur boxer who owned a 186-26 amateur record, including three gold-medal performances in the National PAL Championships. The 26-year-old has never been stopped as a professional, taking world champions Adrian Broner and Chris Algieri the distance. Taylor has defeated Karim Mayfield, Victor Manuel Cayo and Raymond Serrano, among the more notables.

Rising featherweight star Joseph “JoJo” Diaz, Jr. faces fellow undefeated Californian Manuel Avila in a 10-round bout with future world title fight implications.

The 24-year-old Diaz, Jr. (23-0, 13 KOs), a 2012 U.S. Olympian, is the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) featherweight champion. He is the No. 2 contenders in the WBC and WBO world ratings, as well as No. 7 in the IBF. His most recent fight was a win by a 10-round unanimous decision (100-90 X 3) over 30-1-1 Horacio Garcia last December.

Avila, rated No. 10 by the WBC, is a live underdog having defeated 28-6 Jose Ramirez, 24-7 Prosper Ankrah and 23-6 Rene Alvarado in his last three fights.

The event is available for pre-order now at www.Canelo-Chavez.com

Bessette makes second title defense at CES MMA 44

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 28th, 2017) — CES MMA has upped the ante for its upcoming AXS TV showcase, featuring the return of World Featherweight Champion Matt Bessette, plus an intriguing welterweight bout between two rising prospects vying for their own shot at the title.

Bessette (21-7, 6 KOs), the widely-popular, reigning title-holder in the 145-pound division from Stafford, Conn., headlines “CES MMA 44” live on AXS TV Fights on Friday, May 12th, 2017 at Twin River Casino in a five-round title defense against Oklahoma’s Jeremy Spoon (20-3, 1 KO), Bessette’s second defense since capturing the title in August.

While Bessette’s loyal social media army continues to lobby for his promotion to MMA’s biggest stage, the 32-year-old simply keeps winning fights – six in a row, to be exact – in dominant fashion, including his systematic breakdown of Kevin Croom in January at “CES MMA 41” in which Bessette battered and bruised his opponent en route to a third-round TKO win.

The six-time CES MMA and nine-time Bellator vet now faces the dangerous Spoon, himself a four-time Bellator vet with 12 of his 20 pro wins coming by submission. The 32-year-old Spoon competed in the Seasons 6 and 7 Bellator Featherweight Tournaments, where he fought two-time champion Daniel Straus and Season 8 finalist Mike Richman, and recently defeated two-time Bellator vet Josh Tyler by unanimous decision.

The Bessette-Spoon main event title bout is one of six televised fights on the AXS TV main card, which begins 9 p.m. ET, with the preliminary fight card beginning at 7.

Tickets for “CES MMA 44” are priced at $40.00, $55.00, $100.00 and $125.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com, www.ticketmaster.com or www.cagetix.com/ces by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Also on the main card, Woonsocket, R.I., native and three-time Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) vet Sean Soriano (9-5, 4 KOs) makes his long-awaited homecoming in a featherweight bout against New Yorker Jacob Bohn (5-2, 1 KO), Soriano’s first fight in Rhode Island since his CES MMA debut in 2012 when he knocked out Lee Metcalf at “CES MMA 9.”

As an added bonus, fellow Woonsocket native and Blackzillians teammate, UFC bantamweight Andre Soukhamthath, will also return to his home state to work Soriano’s corner against Bohn. The two have combined for 15 CES MMA appearances, including Soriano’s last bout inside the CES cage at “CES MMA 38” on AXS TV against UFC vet Levan Makashvili.

“CES MMA 44” also features the return of Providence heavyweight Greg Rebello (21-7, 13 KOs), looking to continue his climb back to the top of the division in a scheduled three-round bout against Colorado’s Kevin Ray Sears (6-3, 3 KOs).

Welterweights Jon Manley (9-3) of Adams, Mass., and Manny Walo (11-2, 2 KOs) of Jersey City, N.J., clash in a CES MMA title eliminator with the winner facing reigning world champion Chris Curtis.

Manley, a standout on Season 16 of The Ultimate Fighter, makes his third CES MMA appearance and first since 2015 while Walo returns hoping to earn a second shot at the CES MMA World Welterweight Title following a stunning, 11-second knockout loss to then champion Chuck O’Neil in his first opportunity at “CES MMA 27.” Manley has won his last four, including two appearances with World Series of Fighting (WSOF), and eight of nine overall.

The reigning champion Curtis, now 15-5 overall, recently defended his title at “CES MMA 42,” stopping challenger Wilfredo Santiago via second-round knockout on AXS TV.

Light heavyweight Mike Rodriguez (6-2, 4 KOs) of Quincy, Mass., who has made quick work of his last two opponents in a combined 46 seconds, jumps right back in on the main card “CES MMA 44” against New Jersey’s Alec Hooben (5-2, 1 KO) and undefeated flyweight Carlos Candelario (5-0, 1 KO) of New Britain, Conn., faces Grand Rapid, Mich., native Shawn Mack (6-2, 1 KO).

Rodriguez set a new CES MMA record with his 7-second knockout win over Hector Sanchez in January and pummeled James Dysard in just 39 seconds at “CES MMA 43,” earning him his third appearance on AXS TV Fights on May 12th. Candelario, a rising star in the flyweight division, makes his fifth appearance with CES MMA after submitting Miguel Restrepo in January.

The preliminary card features the return of three-time CES MMA vet Toby Oden (2-1, 1 KO) of Milford, Mass., making his first appearance since 2015 plus two exciting female bouts. Oden faces Paul Sims of Philadelphia, who makes his professional debut. Oden last fought at “CES MMA 29,” scoring a first-round knockout win over Wayne Alhquist.

Also on the preliminary card, undefeated female flyweight Maria Rivera (2-0, 1 KO) of Framingham, Mass., returns for the third time since January in a three-round bout against New Haven, Conn., pre debut Marisa Messer-Belenchia while renowned bantamweight prospect Kerri Kenneson of Hooksett, N.H., debut against unbeaten Jennifer Norris (3-0, 1 KO) of Baltimore.

Milford, Conn., middleweight Justin Sumter (3-1, 2 KOs), who earned an impressive first-round knockout win in his CES MMA debut at “CES MMA 43” in Massachusetts, returns to face unbeaten Sandwich, Mass., native Brian Sparrow (2-0), who makes his second appearance with CES MMA in his first fight since 2013.

It comes with everything you want to see – boxing skills, power, timing. It’s just how long you can last and withstand each other’s abilities.

“I don’t hate Klitschko, I don’t dislike Klitschko, but I want to beat Klitschko. Someone is going to win and someone is going to continue with their career. And I’m very confident that’s me.”

“This is a big step for AJ,” Klitschko admitted. “He hasn’t fought this type of quality fighter yet. It’s going to be challenging for him, and it’s going to be challenging for me. This fight is 50-50, both fighters have a chance to win the fight, but I have this feeling that this is my night.”

WORLD RANKED TEVIN FARMER HEADLINES “NIGHT AT THE FIGHTS” AT LIACOURAS CENTER, IN PHILADELPHIA, PA, TOMORROW NIGHT

NEW YORK, NY (4/28/17) – World ranked junior lightweight contender Tevin Farmer (24-4-1, 5 KOs) will begin 2017 with his third consecutive fight in his hometown of Philadelphia, headlining a “Night at the Fights” event at Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University tomorrow night.

Facing Farmer in a 10-round bout will be Arturo Santos Reyes (19-7, 5 KOs), of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. An Olympian who represented Mexico at the 2008 Games in Beijing, Reyes is a former WBC Youth Intercontinental and WBA Fedecaribe titlist. He has never been knocked out and has gone the distance with champions Hozumi Hasegawa, Fernando Montiel and Abner Mares.

Farmer weighed in at 131.9 lbs. for the bout. Reyes tipped the scales at 129.5 lbs.

“I’m thrilled to be headlining at Liacouras Center,” said Farmer, who is a great, great nephew of legendary lightweight champion Joe Gans. “It’s near where I grew up; I even went to summer camp there as a kid, so I definitely plan to put on a spectacular performance Saturday night. Fans will see me be very aggressive and offensive-minded against Reyes. I’ll make him miss, make him pay, and if I see he’s hurt, I’ll take him out. Great Philadelphia fighters like Bernard Hopkins, Danny Garcia and Steve Cunningham have fought at Liacouras Center, and now my name can be added to that list.”

Following just a handful of amateur bouts and a 7-4-1 start as a pro, Farmer rededicated himself. Since his last defeat in 2012 to former IBF junior lightweight champion Jose Pedraza, Farmer has won 17 bouts in a row. In 2014, Farmer signed with DiBella Entertainment (DBE).

“Tevin Farmer continues to work hard to achieve his dream of winning a world title. His career transformation and current winning streak is remarkable,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Fighting at Liacouras Center is a big deal for any Philly fighter and Tevin has another opportunity to demonstrate his world class talent in front of hometown fans. A win on Saturday moves Farmer a step closer toward a world title shot and I anticipate 2017 to be a banner year for him.”

Farmer made his New York debut last year on a DBE Broadway Boxing card in March to capture the NABF junior lightweight title. Four months later, on July 30, 2016, he secured his biggest victory thus far with a 10-round unanimous decision versus 19-1 lightweight contender Ivan Redkach, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, in a bout televised by Showtime Extreme. He ended 2016 with back-to-back unanimous decision wins against Orlando Rizo and Dardan Zenunaj at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

As his profile has risen, Farmer’s contemporaries have praised his talent and ability. Light heavyweight champion and top pound-for-pound fighter Andre Ward lauded Farmer in an interview with FightHype.com, saying, “The young boy from Philly, Tevin Farmer, they sleeping on him. You better watch out for Tevin. He can do it all.”

Ranked #3 by the WBC, #6 by the IBF, and #10 by the WBO, Farmer is on the cusp of a world title opportunity. He recently had a chance encounter with IBF junior lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in the lobby of the MGM National Harbor, in Oxon Hill, MD, when both were attending the Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa WBO junior lightweight championship on April 8. A social media war of words had been brewing between the two before they finally met in person and tensions escalated.

“Gervonta Davis and I had been taunting each other on social media for a while, but we met in person for the first time at the Lomachenko-Sosa fight. I was there to support my friend and stable mate, Sosa,” said Farmer. “We confronted each other in the MGM hotel lobby and things got pretty heated. I let him know that I’m coming for his belt. He pointed out my losses and had the nerve to say I haven’t proven myself. C’mon man, my losses came early on and I’ve been proving myself ever since. Davis can mouth off all he wants, but he is easy work for me, easy money. If Davis takes care of business against Liam Walsh in England, let’s make it happen!”

“I don’t think Gervonta Davis is just playing,” said DiBella. “Davis versus Farmer will be a big draw in the Baltimore area.”

Tickets for tomorrow’s “Night at the Fights” at Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, headlined by Farmer vs. Reyes, promoted by Hard Hitting Promotions, can be purchased by visiting www.ulpfightingforphilly.org.

HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BLOCKBUSTER EVENT: ANTHONY JOSHUA vs. WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LONDON (April 27, 2017) – Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko came face-to-face on Thursday at the sprawling Sky Headquarters in London as the two 6-foot-6 giants participated in a final press conference for Saturday’s blockbuster heavyweight world championship event.

SHOWTIME will televise the fight LIVE at 4:15 p.m. ET/1:15 p.m. PT from sold-out Wembley Stadium where a record-setting 90,000 fans are expected to be in attendance.

The 27-year-old Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs), who won the IBF belt in just his 16th professional fight, faces his toughest challenge yet in Klitschko but has “prepared since day one for this” and sees the future Hall of Famer as “just another stepping stone towards greatness.”

The 41-year-old Klitschko (64-4, 54 KOs), who has competed in 28 world title fights and is the second longest reigning world champion in history, is “obsessed” with winning back two belts he held during his 11-year reign as heavyweight champion.

Joshua and Klitschko will unify the heavyweight division as they meet for Joshua’s IBF World Championship and the vacant WBA World Championship. The event from Britain’s national stadium will be televised in over 150 countries worldwide.

The ringwalks are set for 4:35 p.m. ET/1:35 p.m. PT with the first bell scheduled for 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT. SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® pre-fight coverage begins live on SHOWTIME at 4:15 p.m. ET/1:15 p.m. PT with all the grand pre-fight pageantry from London.

Here’s what the fighters had to say on Thursday. Click HERE to watch Sky Sports coverage of the press conference on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/0wYEuEAMW94

JOSHUA:
“Even though this is such a great event, I always try to strip it down to what it really is and just focus that it’s just me and this man coming to blows and the best man will win. I’m not only prepared physically but mentally as well for any battle.

“April 29 is just another stepping stone towards greatness.

“Any fight is the right fight. I’ve never shied away from any fight, any opponent. I started boxing in 2008; in 2009, ’10, ‘11 I was in the World Championships, and in 2012 I was representing Great Britain competing to be the best in the world in the Olympics. It doesn’t matter who I fight. I just enjoy what I do and I just embrace every opportunity.

“I don’t underestimate any opponent. Through my mistakes I have learned and made myself right.”

Prediction:
“I win. It’s not complicated. Let’s not overthink it. This isn’t rocket science. This is just a fight. Let’s strip it right back to what it is – a young lion, ferocious, hungry, very determined. I left no stone unturned in training camp. We do talk about experience, but even when I was fighting guys with lesser experience I was preparing for this. I’ve prepared since day one for this.

“Carrying the belt hasn’t changed me as a person. I just want to represent myself the best way because I know behind me are a million people that walk the same path as me and come from the same background. I think I’m a representation of these people.

“This is another stop. You can’t sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor. As you sit down on your throne there is always someone knocking on your door to take you down. For me, it’s just another stepping stone.”

On potentially celebrating after a win:
“You can’t deny it. This is epic. As much as I’m calm, when I look around and see how pumped people are for this fight it gives me energy, it gives me life. So it would be hard for me to hold myself together after such an amazing event.”

On this being a pivotal moment for the sport of boxing:
“Absolutely, this is 110 percent a pivotal moment for boxing.”

KLITSCHKO:
“Can you imagine my next opponent is going to fight a guy whose age is exactly the number of how long he has been in boxing – 27 years? Can you imagine that? It’s a pretty amazing task. Is it a degradation that I’m actually a challenger and underdog in this fight after 27 years in the sport? I don’t think so. I think it’s great.

“I’m the challenger again. I feel young, hungry, humble and totally obsessed with my goal to raise my hands again.

“I’m so obsessed with winning. I realized that life is a circle, and I see myself in AJ. I do believe I know how he thinks, how he goes, and how the actual fight is going to be.

“The belts are very important. I’ve been attached to these belts for a very long. I had those belts in my past fight, and I’m fighting for these belts in this fight. The only difference is in my last fight they went to the opposite corner. So my goal and obsession is for those belts to land in my corner, in my hands.

“Obsession is love in extreme shape. I’m in love with my goal.

“Defeat? I’ve been there, I’ve done that. I got up, shook it off and came back stronger. Just a little help (for Joshua) – there’s nothing scary about it.”

LUIS ARIAS VS. ARIF MAGOMEDOV USBA MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP ADDED TO ANDRE WARD VS. SERGEY KOVALEV PAY-PER-VIEW UNDERCARD

NEW YORK, NY (April 27, 2017) – USBA Middleweight Champion Luis “Cuba” Arias (17-0, 8 KOs) and prime contender Arif “The Predator” Magomedov (18-1, 11 KOs) will lead off the HBO Pay-Per-View lineup for Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev 2: “The Rematch” on Saturday, June 17 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The championship event, presented by Corona Extra, will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Arias will be defending his title and undefeated record against one of the division’s top prospects. Magomedov has previously held the WBO’s Inter-Continental, Youth and NABO middleweight titles with only a single career loss coming against Andrew Hernandez for the vacant WBC USNBC middleweight title. Both fighters are eager to make an impression during their Las Vegas debut.

“Finally my opportunity has come. The road to the big stage has been long but it’s here and I’m ready. It’s time to prove to the world that I am a threat to anyone in this division. I have been saying it for some time, my record shows it, but now I’ll get the chance to prove it,” said Arias. “I’m coming to make a statement on June 17! My opponent has been beat before and will be beat again. Thanks to Roc Nation Sports and my handlers for making this happen. A new star will be born.”

“My goal is to be a world champion. I have been waiting for a fight like this. Arias is a tough opponent but I will be ready for him,” said Magomedov. “I am so excited to work with my new trainer, Marco Contreras and to fight on HBO Pay-Per-View. Be ready for ‘The Predator’ on June 17.”

“If the heat between the Ward-Kovalev rivalry hasn’t been felt yet, then the cross promotional matchup of Roc Nation Sports’ Luis Arias and Main Events’ Arif Magomedov will certainly add fuel to the fire,” said Roc Nation President & Chief of Branding and Strategy Michael R. Yormark. “We are excited to have USBA Middleweight Champion Luis Arias make his Las Vegas debut and open the HBO Pay-Per-View telecast with a title defense on June 17 against Arif Magomedov.”

“Arif has been ready for this fight since the first Kovalev-Ward card in November. We are so pleased to finally give him this match-up,” said Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. “This is a huge opportunity for both Arif and Luis to test themselves on such a big stage. A win or a good showing by either fighter could catapult them in the rankings and put them on the map in this stacked middleweight division.”

USBA Middleweight Champion Luis “Cuba” Arias (17-0, 8 KOs), 26, takes great pride in his Cuban heritage. The Milwaukee-native chose his nickname in homage to his father’s homeland and its people, honoring them each time he steps into the ring. A former USA junior amateur standout, Arias made his professional debut on November 10, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, where he defeated Josh Thorpe via a four-round unanimous decision. Since joining Roc Nation Sports in February of 2015, Arias has advanced his undefeated record, paving way for his first title shot on August 20, 2016. In a homecoming at the Milwaukee Center, Arias captured the vacant USBA Middleweight title with a stoppage of Detroit’s Darryl Cunningham at the 1:11 mark of the fourth round. Arias successfully defended his title on March 31, 2017 at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Virginia’s Scott Sigmon. All three judges scored the fight 99-91 for Arias who put on a potent body punching display to settle a long-standing grudge with Sigmon.

Arif “The Predator” Magomedov (18-1, 11 KOs), 24, is a middleweight from Kizlyar, Russia. He made his professional debut in January of 2013 when he earned a decision win over Ruslan Sirazhev in Russia. Magomedov would go on to finish 2013 with a bang, posting a record of 8-0 with 6 KOs and none of those six opponents made it past the third round. He made his US debut in April of 2015 when he unanimously outpointed tough journeyman Derrick Findley. In May of 2015, he earned one of the biggest wins of his career when he scored a first-round knockout over the always tough and durable Darnell Boone. In July of 2015, Magomedov cruised to a unanimous decision win over previously undefeated and rising prospect Derrick Webster. In his most recent bout, Magomedov scored a second-round TKO over Chris Herrmann in Moscow, Russia. Arif is co-promoted by Main Events and Shamo Boxing and managed by Egis Klimas.

Ward vs. Kovalev 2: “The Rematch,” a 12-round mega-fight for the WBO/IBF/WBA Light Heavyweight World Championships, is presented by Roc Nation Sports, Main Events, Andre Ward Promotions, Krusher Promotions and Corona Extra, sponsored by Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, and Powered by Monster. The championship event takes place Saturday, June 17 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. SLEW OF RED-HOT GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS PROSPECTS TO APPEAR ON CANELO-CHAVEZ, JR. NON-TELEVISED UNDERCARD

LOS ANGELES (April 27, 2017) – In the lead up to the stacked Cinco de Mayo weekend historic boxing event headlined by Canelo Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs), fans will have a chance to witness some of Golden Boy Promotions’ top future stars including two Olympians and numerous undefeated fighters.

Canelo vs. Chavez, Jr. takes place Saturday, May 6 at T-Mobile Arena and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

“With Canelo vs. Chavez, Jr. being a historic event in boxing, we wanted to give the audience guaranteed action with every bout from top to bottom and I believe we will get that in the ring on May 6 with these match ups,” said Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya.

A 15-time national amateur champion Ryan “Kingry” Garcia (8-0, 7 KOs) will appear in the bout prior to the start of the HBO Pay-Per-View telecast in a six-round lightweight fight against Long Beach, New Jersey’s Tyrone Luckey (8-6-3, 6 KOs). The Victorville, California native is riding a four-fight KO streak dating back to August and will look to keep his undefeated record intact in front of a huge audience.

Making history as the first female in boxing to fight three-minute rounds as a professional, former US 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist Marlen Esparza (1-0) of Houston, TX will face Samantha Salazar (2-3-1) of Dallas, TX for a four round flyweight bout in a Texan turf war battle. Esparza made her professional debut on the March 23 inaugural Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN card where she defeated Rachel Sazoff by way of unanimous decision.

Opening up the free view portion of the Pay- Per- View, former Mexican Olympian Raul “El Cugar” Curiel will make his professional debut against a soon to-be-announced opponent for a super welterweight war scheduled to go four rounds. Opening up the action with the first fight on the May 6 card, undefeated lightweight Joseph “Diamante” Aguirre (16-0, 9 KOs) from Cancun will face fellow Mexican countryman Angel “Sinaloa” Aispuro (8-4-2, 5 KOs) in a six-round bout.
