Former IBF Bantamweight World Champion Paul Butler is eyeing an all-British World Title showdown with Doncaster’s Jamie McDonnell. The Baby Faced Assassin fights for the third time under new trainer Joe Gallagher in an eight round contest at the Manchester Arena on April 8, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

In June 2014 Butler lifted the IBF crown after defeating Darlington’s Stuart Hall, but vacated the belt a month later. After a spell at Super-Flyweight, the Ellesmere Port star is more determined than ever to land a second World Title at 118lbs.

“I’m hoping we can get this fight out of the way and then push on for another World Title,” said Butler. “It has been talked about for a while now and it’s what we’ve been working towards in the gym. I can’t wait to get in the ring and put in a top performance and move on.

“I’d take any of the Bantamweight Champions but I would hope it would be McDonnell or Zhanat Zhakiyanov. Zhanat has the WBA Super World Title but McDonnell is the name in the division – everyone knows Jamie McDonnell.

“I would like to box Jamie and take his title and then Zhanat would have to fight me as I would be the regular WBA Champion. We’re lucky enough to have two British Bantamweight World Champions and hopefully a fight with one of them can be made. I’m sure McDonnell would be a cracking fight.”

WORCESTER, Mass. (March 20, 2017) – The long trip back begins April 1st for Matt
Sharp Shooter” Remillard, 12 years to the day from his professional debut, on the “New England’s Future 2” show at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Remillard (23-1, 13 KOs), fighting out of Manchester, Connecticut, hasn’t boxed for the six years, due to him serving a five-year prison sentence. He takes on Lawrence (MA) lightweight Augustine “Ruthless” Mauras (6-1-3, 3 KOs) in the eight-round co-feature. If their tense, near volatile stare-down at a recent press conference is a true indication, Remillard vs. Mauras is not going the distance, to put things mildly.

New England’s Future 2″ is presented by Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), which is owned and operated by retired three-time, two division world champion Jose Antonio Rivera and his son, Anthonee (A.J.) Rivera.

“I am excited to have a boxer of Remillard’s caliber on our ‘New England’s Future 2’ boxing event,” promoter Jose Antonio Rivera remarked. “He has a tough match against August time Mauras for his first fight back. Knowing Remillard, though, he wouldn’t have it any other way. I want to thank Matt, Paul Cichon (head trainer) and their team for trusting Rivera Promotions Entertainment for Matt’s first boxing match back from his long layoff.”

Remillard is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) United States & Youth World, North American Boxing Federation (NABF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion. His lone pro loss came in his last fight, March 23, 2011 in Atlantic City to then rising star Mikey Garcia (24-0), when Remillard retired after 11 rounds. He won’t make excuses; however, he never should have taken the fight with Garcia, facing the impending court case that sent him to prison and working with a new head trainer he’d only met two weeks prior to the fight.

“I’m confident I can get back to where I was in about a year,” the 30-year-old Remillard said. “A dream come true would be a rematch with Garcia, at any weight, but I have to earn that shot. Everybody wants a rematch with the guy who gave you the first loss. It seldom happens but, if not, in time I believe there will be other big fights out there for me.

“I’m fighting an opponent who fought by buddy, Chip Perez, three times (0-2-1), so I’m familiar with his style. He doesn’t back down. I don’t expect him to back down against me…until he feels my power. I’m going to take out those five years that I was away on him. I’ve been through so much the last six year but I’m most comfortable in the gym. The past is past and this is my last run. Paul and I have a lot of unfinished business to take care of.”

Seventeen years ago, Chicon first met Remillard at the Manchester PAL gym, but he made the 13-year-old aspiring boxer earn his opportunity to be trained. Paul made Matt clean the bathrooms, take care of spit buckets, etc. before he started training him.

“When he returned to the gym a few months back, I saw that his work ethic hadn’t faded,” Cichon commented. “I don’t believe he’s really that far away from where he was six years ago. He was idle five years but his first day back he sparred 12 rounds. He stayed in good physical shape and is hungrier than ever. He thinks he has something to prove after his last fight, but he really doesn’t have anything to prove to me or anybody else. He is fighting a tough kid but Matt’s going to be victorious. I think in four or five more fights he’ll be back where he was in boxing.”

Pembroke (MA) cruiserweight Vinnie “American Nightmare” Carita (15-1-1, 14 KOs will headline against Brazilian KO specialist Gilberto Matheus “El Magico” Domingos (22-6, 20 KOs), the former South American light heavyweight champion, in the eight-round main event.

Dorchester (MA) heavyweight Donnie “Big Nasty” Palmer (8-1-1, 7 KOs) faces unbeaten Quian Davis (4-0-2, 2 KOs), of Mays Landing (NJ), in a four-round bout.

Gennady Golovkin was tested like never before, but he came out with a debated 12-round unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs at a near-capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden.

It looked like it was going to be another knockout for Golovkin as he dropped Jacobs from a hard left hand.  Jacobs was able to get back in the fight as he switched to southpaw and flicked the jab, and then came behind it with a good combination.  Jacobs seemed to take control of the 2nd half of the fight by using a slick combinations to befuddle to on charging champion.

The 12th round started out with both guys needing the round.  It was a close round with both guys getting in some good shots.

Golovkin won by scores of 115-112 twice and 114-113 and is now 37-0.  Jacobs is 32-2.

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai shocked what most boxing people believed to be the best fighter in the world, Roman Gonzalez by majority decision to capture the WBC Super Flyweight title

In round one, Gonzalez was dumped on the swat of his pants from a left to the body.   In the next round, Gonzalez was cut iver his right eye from a headbutt.  The two had many furious exchanges, and in round five, Rungvisai’s head got in the way again as another headbutt caused more blood over the right eye of Gonzalez.

In seemed that Gonzalez took over the majority of the middle rounds by outlanding Rungvisai in the main skirmishes in the middle of the ring.  Rungvisai closed strong as he stepped on the gas pedal in round’s 11 and 12, gave as good as he got and that may have put him over the hump as he took two cards 114-112 and one card read even at 113-113.

Rungvisai, 114 lbs of Si Sa Ket, Thailand is now 42-4-1.  Gonzalez, 114.6 lbs of Managua, NIC is 46-1.

Former world champion Carlos Cuadras won a 10-round unanimous decision over David Carmona in a super flyweight bout.

Cuadras, 115.6 lbs of Mexico City won two cards 97-93 and 96-94 and is now 36-1-1.  Carmona, 115.8 lbs of Mexico city is 20-4-5.

Ryan Martin dominated and eventually stopped Bryant Cruz in round eight of their scheduled 10-round lightweight bout.

Martin controlled the action using his length and outlanded Cruz 233-129.  A hard combination battered carmona and referee Harvey Dock stopped the bout 45 seconds into round eight.

Former middleweight champion, Andy Lee won an 8-round unanimous decision over Keandre Leatherwood in a middleweight bout.

Lee, 160 lbs of Limerick, IRL won by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74 and is now 35-3-1.  Leatherwood, 159.4 lbs of Birmingham, AL is 19-4-1.

Matt McKinney won 4-round unanimous decision over Jay-Carrigan-McFarlane in a heavyweight bout.

McKinney, 243.2 lbs of Oceanside, CA won on two cards 39-37 and 38-38 and is now 3-0. McFarlane, 241.8 lbs of Glasgow, SCOT is 2-1.

Serhii Bohachuk remained perfect by stopping Yasmani Pedroso in round three of their scheduled 4-round welterweight bout.

Bohachuk dropped Pedroso twice in round three, and the bout was stopped at 2:28.

Bohachuk, 146.8 lbs of Vintiza, UKR is 3-0 with 3 knockouts. Pedroso, 147.8 lbs of Miami, FL is 1-2.

READING, PA (March 18, 2017) – In a 12-round heavyweight war that lived up to the hype, Amir Mansour (23-2-1, 16 KOs) was able to take a majority decision (114-114, 117-111, 115-113) over Travis Kauffman (31-2, 23 KOs) in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round on Bounce from Santander Arena in Reading, PA.

In round two, Kauffman buckled Mansour with a hard right on the inside. The two fighters started round four with bad intentions as they each landed hard shots on the inside. Kauffman switched back and forth between orthodox and southpaw stances in an attempt to befuddle the southpaw Mansour.

By the closing rounds, both fighters began to grind out a hard-fought battle on the inside. In rounds nine and 10, it was Mansour who had more pep in his step, landing several hard blows to close out round 10.

Round 12 was a classic heavyweight slugfest, as Kauffman and Mansour stood toe-to-toe landing leather on each other for the whole three-minute period, with Mansour doing just enough to get the win.

Televised coverage opened with Chordale Booker (6-0, 3 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York getting a unanimous decision (59-55, 59-55, 58-56) over Moshea Aleem (4-1-1, 2 KOs) of Richmond, Virginia in a super welterweight bout.

The co-main event featured two-time welterweight world champion Kermit Cintron (39-5-3, 30 KOs) and David Grayton (15-1-1, 11 KOs) fighting to a technical majority draw after Cintron was deemed unable to continue due to a cut over his right eye.

In round five, Grayton floored Cintron with an overhand left. Later in the round, Grayton nailed Cintron with an unintentional headbutt to the right eye, which opened up the cut that led to the end of the bout. Action was stopped at 2:53 of round five.

“I give Travis (Kauffman) credit. He stood in there with me tonight. But as I waited for the scores, I knew I won the fight. These were honorable judges.

“I want (Deontay) Wilder next. I am 44-years-old. I want my shot. They should give me my shot and try to get me out of the way.”

KERMIT CINTRON

“I was winning the fight. Then he started to apply pressure and he caught me when I was off balance.

“He kept coming in with his head, and he finally caught me good with it. I was fine and wanted to continue, but the doctor decided to stop the fight.”

DAVID GRAYTON

“I won that fight. I think he could have continued.

“I was in control of the fight, but I was in his hometown, and you know how that goes.

CHORDALE BOOKER

“It was a good fight. I needed this fight to see where I am. And I wanted to fight another undefeated fighter. It was a step up on national television.

“I give myself a B- for my performance tonight. My movement was good, but I did not sit down on my power enough. It was a good learning experience though. I could not ask for a better platform to perform on.”

MOSHEA ALEEM

“I did not do enough. I waited too long to throw my punches and he outworked me.”

In Non-televised action, Former two-time world champion Steve Cunningham pitched a shutout in taking a six-round unanimous decision over Felipe Romero in a cruiserweight bout.

Cunningham, 205 lbs of Philadelphia won by scores of 60-54 on all cards, and is now 29-8-1. Romero, 202 lbs of Baja, Cakifornia, Mexico is 19-12-1.

Chris Colbert remained undefeated with a 6-round unanimous decision over Wilfredo Garriga in a super featherweight bout.

Colbert, 130.7 lbs of Brooklyn, NY won on all card 60-54, and is now 6-0. Garriga, 130.6 lbs of Juana Diaz, PR is 3-5-1.

Erik Spring won a 6-round unanimous decision over Jeremiah Wiggins in a junior middleweight bout.

Spring, 152 lbs of Reading won by tllaies of 60-53 and 59-54 twice to raise his mark to 9-1-2. Wiggins, 152.8 lbs of Newport News, VA falls to 10-6-1.

Darius Ervin won a 4-round majority decision over Kashon Hutchinson in a super lightweight bout,Earvin, 141.7 lbs of Los Angeles, CA won two cards 39-37 and a third card read even at 38-38.

Jesus Perez remained undefeated by winning a 4-round unanimous decision over Titos Matthew Gosalves in a super lightweight bout.

In round two, Perez scored a knockdown from a right hand to the body. In round three, Perez began to bleed from his mouth.

Perez, 141 lbs of Reading, PA won all cards 39-36, and is now 2-0. Gonsalves, 139 lbs of Lancaster, PA was making his pro debut.

Matt Quirindongo won a 4-round unanimous decision over Weusi Johnson in a super featherweight bout.

Olympian Michael Conlan did not disappoint in his much ballyhooed debut as he stopped Tim Ibarra in the 3rd round of their scheduled six-round super bantamweight bout at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Conlan battered Ibarra on the ropes, and the bout was stopped at 59 seconds.

Conlan, 122 3/4 lbs of Belfast, Northern Ireland is 1-0 with 1 knockout. Ibarra, 123 lbs of Denver, CO is 4-5.

Alex Saucedo remained undefeated by stopping Johnny Garcia in round of their scheduled eight-round welterweight bout.

In round one, Saucedo dropped Garcia with a jab. Saubcedo finished off Garcia with a hard combibation of blows that forced referee Steve Smoger to stop the bout at 2:42.

Saucedo, 141 lbs of Oklahoma City is 24-0 with 15 knockouts. Garcia, 142 1/4 lbs of Holland, MI is 19-5-1.

2016 Olympic Gold Medal winner Robson Conceicao stopped Aaron Hollis in round two of their scheduled six-round super featherweight bout.

Coceicao dropped Hollis at the end of round one with a three punch combination to the head. Seconds into round two, Conceicao landed a flurry on the ropes and the bout was stopped at 36 seconds of round two.

Conceicao, 131 lbs of Brazil is now 3-0 with two knockouts. Hollis, 129 1/4 lbs of Cincinnati, is 3-5.

2016 Olympian, Teofimo Lopez stopped Daniel Bastien in round two of their scheduled four-round lightweight bout.

Lopez dropped Bastien with a left hook and Bastien was down for the ten count at 39 seconds of round two.

From Bilbao, Pais Vasco, Spain, the 25-year-old Lejarraga is an aggressive, hard-hitting fighter with a crowd-pleasing style, ranked no. 3 by the WBA and no. 19 by the WBC. Having fought exclusively in Spain thus far, Lejarraga will make his United States debut later in 2017.

Lejarraga made his DBE debut on March 11, 2017, with a fifth-round TKO over Gabor Gorbics in Spain.

Born in the small village of Morga in 1992, Lejarraga has revitalized the boxing scene around Spain since turning pro in May 2013, being compared by fans and experts to former world champion Javier Castillejo. In 2015, the Spaniard showed promise defeating the likes of fellow countryman Javier Garcia Roche (16-4) in his first 10-rounder and Danish Kim Poulsen (27-2), both via stoppage. On March 19 of last year, Lejarraga defeated the 20-1 Laszlo Toth via 12-round unanimous decision, dropping him in the second, to seize the WBA International welterweight title. NEW YORK – March 17, 2017 – Combate Americas today announced the completion of a stellar, 11-bout card for its debut in Tijuana, Mexico on Thursday, March 30, live on Azteca America in the U.S. at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m from the Auditorio Municipal.

TV Azteca will broadcast “Combate12” in Mexico on Friday at 11:00 p.m., and UFC Fight Pass® will distribute an English-language version of the event as a video on demand (VOD).

“Combate12” will be headlined by a bantamweight (135 pound) showdown between Argentinean Marcelo “Pitbull” Rojo (10-4) and Monterrey, Mexico native Iván “El Brasil” Flores (8-1-1).

Rojo, a veteran of season three of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America, will look to make a statement in his first start in La Jaula, the Combate Americas cage, when he faces Flores, who will be on a mission to defend the honor of his house.

Rojo will fight for the first time in Mexico after an extensive career in South American arenas where he has become one of the most popular fighters in the region.
Flores, meanwhile, will look to rebound from a second round (3:11) submission (arm-triangle choke) defeat at the hands of Mark “The Bumblebee” Delarosa at “Combate10” in Mexico City, Mexico in January.

Another contestant from the third season of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America, Costa Rican Walter Zamora (9-2), will face Monterrey native Alex “Gallito” Flores (8-1) in the “Combate12” co-main event; the Mexican fighter has one goal only, and that is to defend the honor of his country in the featherweight (145 pounds) bout.

Dennis Ceylan (18-0-1, 8 KOs) and Isaac Lowe (13-0-1, 5 KOs) took to the scales today at a bad tempered weigh-in ahead of their European Featherweight title fight tomorrow night at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark.

Ceylan and Lowe had to be pulled apart during the customary head-to-head photographs with both fighters pushing the other after successfully making weight. Despite being away from home, Lowe was cheered on by a vocal set of travelling supporters including former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury.

26-year-old Ramiro Carrillo has been very impressive in his undefeated 11-fight run as a professional, thus far. Carrillo was born in Mexico was a heavily decorated amateur, going 215-14. He was a four-time Chicago Golden Gloves Champion and a two-time National Silver Gloves Champion. Carrillo is an aggressive boxer/brawler who loves to go to the body. So much so that a high percentage of his professional knockouts have come from body shots.

22-year-old Quezada is of half-Mexican and half-Filipino descent and an enormous fan-favorite locally. A heavily decorated amateur boxer, Quezada ran off 11 straight victories before falling short in his last fight. A Physical Education and Exercise Science junior at Chicago’s De Paul University 21-year-old Josh Hernandez had just over 50 fights and in 2014, won the Power Gloves and Chicago Golden Gloves, where he was named Best Male Boxer of the tournament. Originally from St. Louis, now living in Chicago Jessica McCaskill trains under well-known Windy City boxing figure Rick Ramos. The 32-year-old says she started off in boxing as a crude slugger, relying solely on her amazing natural strength. But nearly three years of working with Ramos has improved her skills dramatically. McCaskill is the first woman ever signed to a promotional agreement with Warriors Boxing, and deservedly so. Her exciting fighting style has already made her a crowd favorite.

Former WBO Super-Welterweight boss Liam Smith says his mouth-watering matchup with undefeated British Champion Liam Williams is far from a 50-50 fight. Smith and Williams lock horns at the Manchester Arena on Saturday 8th April, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

The bookmakers are struggling to split the pair. Most bookies price ‘Beefy’ as the 5/6 favourite, with Williams only marginally longer at even-money. Becerra of Santa Ana, California has a record of 11-2-2 with 7 knockouts.

The 29 year-old is a 9-year professional, who was undefeated in his first eight bouts. Becerra has won three straight, which includes his last outing when he won a 6-round unanimous decision over Hugo Padilla on February 11th in at The Renaissance Hotel.

LONDON (March 17, 2017) – Pound-for-pound ace Gennady Golovkin knows he will be in his toughest fight to date when he takes on knockout king Danny Jacobs on Saturday night.

The Kazakh warrior faces cancer survivor and the hard-hitting Jacobs, who has stopped 29 of his 32 opponents, exclusively live on BoxNation this weekend from the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Despite being one of the world’s most formidable punchers and boxers around, with a record of 36 wins unbeaten, with 33 of those by knockout, 34-year-old WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight world champion Golovkin is refusing to overlook Jacobs.

“He is a very good fighter and maybe has a little bit more power than me. He has big power and he is a very good boxer,” said Golovkin.

“Of course I feel that I have power and it is very important to me and I can feel the power in my punches. I get that from hard work and practice.

”Sometimes though it is not just power. It has a lot to do with timing and distance. It is not all in the punch.

“This is my first fight of the year and he is a tough guy and a great fighter and I am very excited for this fight and this year.

“He is one of the most dangerous for me. He is very good in the ring. He is a good boxer with good technique. I respect him too, he is a very good man,” he said.

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez is also well aware that his man cannot go into the fight underestimating 30-year-old Jacobs, who has the ability to put any opponent in his weight class to sleep.

He is of the belief that this fight is more of a threat to the unified champion than a showdown with Mexican star Canelo Alvarez.

“I think that [he is a bigger threat than Canelo] he has got one punch power. There is the chance he will knock you out – he is a big dude,” said Sanchez.

“Canelo is more of a combination puncher but they are both very good fighters. Both Canelo and Jacobs have fights coming up and Canelo has the bigger guy on May 6 and we will be able to tell then who is the bigger and stronger guy,” he said.

Also tonight, exclusively live on BoxNation, will be the debut of Irish Olympic sensation Michael Conlan who starts his professional career at the ‘Mecca of Boxing’ – Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day against Tim Ibarra.

Conlan will be walked to the ring by UFC superstar and fellow countryman Conor McGregor and is equally ambitious as the brash Dubliner as he looks to go down as the best Irish fighter of all time.

“My goal is to be the best Irish fighter of all time. Tim [Ibarra] and I both have to put bread on the table and we’ll be working hard to do that Friday night. I am going to have to knock him out,” said Conlan.

“Over 2,000 fans are flying in from Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and my pro debut. I never dreamed this would be happening to me, that it was even possible – headlining in my pro debut at the Mecca of Boxing.

“I am taking this whole experience in. I revel in it. It’s going to be electric when Conor McGregor carry’s the tricolor [flag] and walks me into the ring,” he said.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 17th, 2017) — Fighting for the eighth time since making his professional debut in May, middleweight Kendrick Ball Jr. of Worcester, Mass., returns to Twin River Casino next month in another intriguing battle of unbeatens.

Ball Jr. (5-0-2, 4 KOs) puts his undefeated record on the line Friday, April 7th, 2017 against Cranston, R.I., native and nearby Warwick resident Zachary Christy (1-0-1), a decorated U.S. Air Force vet who fights for the first time since September of 2014.

The six-round Ball Jr.-Christy bout highlights the undercard of CES Boxing’s World Boxing Council U.S. National Boxing Council (WBC USNBC) Welterweight Championship main event between Nick DeLomba (11-1, 2 KOs) and Jimmy Williams (12-0-1, 5 KOs).

The always-ready Ball Jr. faces his third undefeated opponent; he battled Connecticut’s 5-0 David Wilson to a draw in July and later fought to a draw against 9-0-1 Nathan Millier in December. Reece Bellotti says he’ll thrive under the pressure of his first headline show tonight as he takes on Dai Davies in an eliminator for the British Featherweight title in the first of the JDNXTGEN series at York Hall, Bethnal Green, live on Sky Sports Facebook and Sky Sports 1.

Bellotti has raced to 8-0 in the paid ranks and ended seven of those fights early and the 26 year old is looking for another early night to kick off a big year in his career in style.

The Bomber can take a giant step towards the Lord Lonsdale belt by beating Davies in east London, but with the 33 year old Welshman holding bags of experience from his 40 pro outings, Bellotti knows he is in for the toughest night in the paid ranks yet.

“I’ve never topped the bill as a pro and that is something I’ll have to overcome, but I am not fazed by it in any way and I can’t wait to perform,” said Bellotti

“He’s got a lot more experience than me and he’s probably boxed people at this stage in their career so he will know what to do.

“It is a stepping stone I have to go on towards the British title. Every fighter when he first starts out wants to win a British title, and more titles down the line.

“I know it is going to be a tough fight. Davies has done well in his recent fights, so it won’t be easy.

“By the end of this year I want to have boxed for the British title and have won it. I want to keep developing as a boxer.

“He will be a lot more ring-savvy than me and know some tricks I haven’t seen before. There could be things which happen on the night which I will have to deal with.

“I prefer the longer rounds and it works both ways. If you have a couple of bad rounds, you have time to recover and the longer it goes the more you wear your opponent out.

“Because of the knockouts, people assume you are going to go looking and I did the opposite against Ian Bailey, because it suited that fight.

“We went in with a game plan to use my feet and show a bit more of my ability and it worked. I got the stoppage so it worked.

“I can do the same with Dai Davies, but also mix it up a bit more to get the win.”
