AC Sports Management Presents: “Protect Yourself At All Times: The Documentary”

Dallas, TX (October 24, 2016) – 2016 has been a huge year for boxing manager, Adrian Clark. Along with being named one of Forbes magazines top 30 under 30 game-changers in sports, he also created the ‘Boxer-Manager Agreement’, which serves as a contract for the fighters to sign manager’s. The 30 year-old owner of AC Sports Management, LLC is now following up the Protect Yourself at All Times book with a documentary which is to release in the spring of 2017.

“The Protect Yourself at All Times campaign is something that is much needed in the sport of boxing. With no regulation in the sport to protect the athletes, I am making a conscious effect to bring awareness directly to the fighters in hopes to transcend the sport for the fighters.” Clark stated.

Schaefer to promote Charlo / Williams; Cuellar – Mares doubleheader on December 10 at USC

Julian Williams
Promoter Richard Schafer will make his return to promoting as he will co-promote this December 10 championship doubleheader that will feature junior middleweight tittlist Jermall Charlo taking on Julian Williams, while featherweight Jesus Cuellar defends against Abner Mares at the Galen Center on the USC Campus, according to to Dan Rafael of espn.com

These are two 50-50 fights and they not only are stylistically great fights, but you can’t imagine either being a boring fight,” Schaefer said on Sunday night. “Both of them are important in their respective weight classes.”

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” Schaefer said. “I’m happy to come back with an event like this. I’m excited to be putting [together] great events again. I like to create events, big cards, big events, stacked pay-per-views. Fight fans and fight freaks can look forward to more to come.

“I’m excited to have this kind of card for Ringstar and looking forward to co-promoting it with Tom Brown (of TGB Promotions). It’s my first time working with him on a card.”

“I wanted to make sure Abner is OK, and I sat down with him and his wife and wanted to hear directly from him that he was fit to fight,” Schaefer said. “I wanted to hear from his own mouth there is no issues with his eyes. But I think if you ask a fighter if they’re OK, more often than not they’ll tell you they are, so I also wanted to talk to his doctor.”

“I talked to him and he made it clear to me Abner is clear to fight,” Schaefer said. “I talked to fighter and the doctor and the commission and Abner is clear to fight, and not only clear to fight but safe to fight, so we made the fight. I’m very excited to see the fight because they are both entertainers, and I know they’ll give us a great show.”

Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs), 26, of Houston, whose twin brother Jermell also holds a 154-pound world title, will be making his third defense since winning it in September 2015.

Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs), 26, of Philadelphia, became the mandatory challenger by virtue of a seventh-round knockout of Italy’s Marcello Matano in a title eliminator in March.

“It’s a fight which has been asked for by fight fans,” Schaefer said. “It’s one of the best fights you can make in the division. I expect fireworks. Sometimes with mandatories you are stuck with a fight nobody wants to see, but in this case, it’s a fight everyone wants to see.”

“I wanted to do my first event as a meaningful event where it’s a great card to be proud of, and I really wanted it to be in Los Angeles,” he said. “When this card was shaping up, I threw my hat in the ring and talked to Al (Haymon, adviser to all four featured fighters). I said this is an event I’d like to be involved with, and that’s how it happened. I’m especially excited to be doing the card on the USC campus because that’s where two of my (three) boys go to college.”

EGGINGTON: I’LL PUNISH GAVIN FOR PERSONAL JIBES

Sam Eggington has vowed to punish Frankie Gavin for the personal comments he made and KO him when they meet for the WBC International Welterweight title at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

The pair were set to meet last year for Eggington’s belts but Gavin pulled out with a foot injury. Eggington saw off late replacement Dale Evans before Gavin’s old foe Bradley Skeete took the titles here in March.

Eggington and Gavin finally meet in a crucial clash for the vacant WBC International title, with the winner opening the door to major title shots in 2017, and for the Stourbridge man, there’s a personal edge to the fight – even more so after Eggington branded Gavin ‘unprofessional’ after he failed to make the weight for the contest, meaning only Eggington can claim the strap tomorrow night.

The pair boxed on the same bill in Leeds in July and in a post-fight interview, Gavin appeared to call his hometown rival ‘dumb’. ‘Funtime’ said that he was referring to Eggington’s ring-IQ, but Eggington is having none of it and says he’ll make Gavin eat his words tomorrow.

“A few people called me up to say that Frankie had been having a dig at me,” said Eggington. “He normally does that about the way I box but to get personal is out of order. If he wants to go down that route, fine, that’s just spurred me on to beat him even more.

“I could mention him losing to Kell Brook or Leonard Bundu, it doesn’t matter, it’s in the past. If he’s taking confidence from my fight with Skeete, leave him to it. At the start of my career I was a bit gung-ho and raw, and I think that I lost a bit of that by trying to be a perfect boxer but I’m never going to be that, so I’ve brought that back now and I’m going through the gears now and i feel that it’s going to bring the best out of me.

“Something has got to give and it’s going to be him. I know it’s a hard fight but I am going to do a job on him, I’ll do anything it takes to win this, bragging rights is the best name for the fight because I’d have boxed him for no belt, I just want to beat him.

“I have more power than him. Frankie couldn’t punch through a wet paper bag, he’s on about KO ratios but it’s who you are knocking out, people who are coming for a payday or people that are coming to win titles. The power will tell.”

Gavin and Eggington clash on a huge night of action in Birmingham with the chief-support provided by Olympic bronze medal star Anthony Ogogo and Birmingham man Craig Cunningham meet for the vacant WBC International Middleweight title.

A host of Birmingham boxers are in title action as Sean Davis faces Paul Economides for the vacant WBC International Super-Bantamweight title, Marcus Ffrench and Robbie Barrett meet for the vacant English Super-Flyweight title, Don Broadhurst and Louis Norman fight for the vacant English Super-Flyweight title and the vacant Midlands Area Super-Lightweight crown is up for grabs between Jordan Cooke and Andy Keates.

World-rated Super-Flyweight Kal Yafai looks for vital rounds, former World title challenger Brian Rose is in action alongside Cori Gibbs, Sam Bowen, Ryan Kelly, Joe Sherriff and Lennox Clarke.

Tickets are on general sale priced at £40, £60 and £100 and are available from http://www.barclaycardarena.co.uk/whats-on/matchroom-boxing. VIP tickets priced at £150 are exclusively available from www.matchroomboxing.com

Face value tickets for October 22 are also be available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ . StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua.

AXS TV FIGHTS AND LION FIGHT MUAY THAI SIGN MULTI-YEAR BROADCAST AGREEMENT EXTENSION

Los Angeles – October 21, 2016 – Lion Fight Promotions and AXS TV FIGHTS today announced a multi-year contract extension for the network to continue to be the exclusive U.S. broadcast home for Lion Fight events. The world renowned Muay Thai organization is scheduled to promote at least eight televised events in 2017.

With 25 events already under Lion Fight’s belt in its first four years on AXS TV FIGHTS, the promotion has produced some of the most memorable fights in the network’s recent history, such as when MMA superstar Cris “Cyborg” Justino took on multi-world champion Jorina Baars, the anticipated rematch between combat sports legends John Wayne Parr and Cosmo Alexandre, and Muay Thai superstar Yodsanklai Fairtex’s reign as middleweight champ.

Lion Fight rounds out its 2016 campaign with Lion Fight 32 on Friday, Oct. 21 at the Tropicana Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, followed by Lion Fight 33 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on Friday, Nov. 18. AXS TV FIGHTS will be on site to capture the action with commentators UFC Hall of Famer Pat Miletich and “The Voice” Michael Schiavello, and ringside reporter Ron Kruck.

“We are extremely excited to remain a partner with AXS TV FIGHTS as we continue to bring the world’s best Muay Thai fighters to our stage,” said Lion Fight CEO Scott Kent.

“Lion Fight has blossomed this past year with a huge increase in overall appeal as we showcase elite stand-up fighters with unparalled striking capabilities. Our roster includes champions like Antonina Shevchenko, Iman Barlow, Tum Sityodtong, Jo Nattawut, and Sergio Wielzen plus rising stars like Ky Hollenbeck, Gaston Bolanos, Travis Clay, Regian Eersel, and Brett Hlavacek.”

“Over the past four years, Lion Fight has become the preeminent brand in the world of Muay Thai and furthered AXS TV FIGHTS’ storied history of featuring the world’s best stand-up fighters,” said AXS TV FIGHTS CEO Andrew Simon. “We have seen tremendous growth in the popularity of Muay Thai on AXS TV, which made this new deal an essential component of our 45-event broadcast schedule in 2017.”

“In the world of MMA and combat sports, Muay Thai is the ultimate discipline for the best stand-up strikers in the world,” said Miletich. “Lion Fight has done an incredible job bringing in international stars like John Wayne Parr and Jorina Baars to put on headlining fights, while building a powerhouse roster of emerging talent, like Gaston Bolanos whose spinning back-elbow is as dangerous as they come.”

“Muay Thai is sometimes overlooked in the world of combat sports, but fans of MMA will appreciate the incredible striking on display at Lion Fight events as these are truly the best stand-up fighters in the world,” said Miletich.

TYRONE McKENNA: “LINE ‘EM UP, SIGN ‘EM UP, AND I’LL BASH ‘EM UP!”

At the age of 26 and with a dozen mock exams successfully negotiated, the time has arrived for touted Belfast light-welter Tyrone McKenna to spit or get off the pot.

Known as ‘The Mighty Celt’, the swift and slingy 6ft 1in southpaw squares off with bull strong Dubliner Sean Creagh in a tasty looking tear-up for the Celtic BUI crown at Belfast’s Titantic Exhibition Centre on November 5th. BoxNation screen live.

On Thursday evening, the Ulster southpaw discussed his career thus far with Glynn Evans.

What is it about your home city of Belfast that makes it so conducive to producing so many top quality boxers?

Belfast’s a tough, tough city, inhabited by tough, tough men. I guess that growing up through ‘The Troubles’ we’re all pretty fearless. Guns, soldiers, riots and bombs were all pretty normal parts of our life. We’ve all been through the madness.

Almost everyone on your street will have boxed at some time and the most talented all fight each other or have sparring wars, which brings everybody on.

Tell us a little bit about your own amateur pedigree.

I started training at the Oliver Plunkett gym at eight and was on the Irish national squads since I was 11.

I probably had about 120 amateur fights and lost just 12. About 40 of those bouts would have been at international level. I fought in the World Youths, European Youths and won bronze at the Junior Olympics in Lithuania. I won six All Ireland titles but turned pro after losing a tight match to Carl Frampton at 57kg in the 2009 All Ireland semi-final.

Your induction into the professional field was spent under Philadelphia promoter Tom Moran, fighting on the US east coast. How did that opportunity materialise? What were the positives and negatives?

I was offered a deal alongside Anthony Cacace, a former amateur opponent and international teammate, and who doesn’t want to be a professional in Philadelphia? They paid our flights and accommodation and I got to work with (ex two time world heavyweight champion) Tim Witherspoon who taught me the Phillie ‘trademarks’!

Phillie’s a tough, tough city; America’s version of Belfast. Every spar was a war, like a proper fight and huge crowds turned up at the gyms to watch. There was a lot on the line every day and you had to EARN respect. And unlike in the UK, the US journeymen all come to win. Fights over there were far more competitive.

But, unfortunately, my fights were too far apart and I started to put on weight. I wasn’t going anywhere over there so decided to come home. Now I’m with MGM, I’m fighting almost every month.

After a four year apprenticeship you’re finally tossed into the championship arena next month. You’ve not been beyond six rounds yet. Are you apprehensive?

Not at all. This first title fight shows I’m making progress. Fighting another unbeaten Irishman has brought a lot of talk both in Belfast and down in Dublin. There’s a real buzz about the fight. It’s my first televised fight as a pro and I can’t wait. This is what it’s all about.

It’s a great bill with Jamie Conlan topping and Paddy Barnes making his debut. Belfast’s a big, big boxing city and the fans are always behind our fighters but this is the first major pro show for more than a year.

I’ve not fought in Belfast myself for almost a year and a half so tickets have been flying out. With a fortnight to go, I’ve already done over 200. I’m expecting a noisy, crazy crowd.

What do you know about co-challenger Creagh?

I’ve not seen Sean fight or spar but I’m led to believe he’s strong and a hard, hard trainer who sets a nonstop pace. Being undefeated himself, he’ll be confident of winning. But I’m ready.

How has your prep gone?

I had five weeks in Liverpool then fought a six rounder with Danny Little in Solihull and have spent the last four weeks at the MGM gym in Marbella.

Since February, I’ve been trained by Danny Vaughan and he’s completely changed my style. For this, I’ve been sparring Stephen Ormond, Derry Mathews, Tom Stalker and Sam Maxwell and I’ve handled all brilliantly. Steve Ormond is a perfect copy of Sean Creagh; short, strong, ‘in yer face’.

Stylistically, what can those you’ve not previously seen you box expect?

I like to study guys like Michael Nunn and Paul Williams, tall southpaws who liked to move forward. I actually enjoy brawling but I’m at my best when I step back, wait for mistakes, then punish opponents with my fast combinations. I’m an exciting fighter with a high work rate who likes to throw plenty of punches.

Why do you win?

My amateur pedigree is ten times better than Creagh’s. On top of that I’ve the experience of spending my first 30 months as a pro fighting and training in the US. I’ve a lot more experience. I’ll need to show him there are levels, and I’m far higher than he is.

I’m faster, more skilled and, the way I’ve been training, I even expect to be fitter. He doesn’t worry me in any department. Whatever he brings, I do better.

After that….?

I want to have an exciting career and be in exciting fights. I don’t want to be tiptoeing around anybody in Britain at 10stone. Line ‘em up, sign ‘em up and I’ll bash ‘em up!

(British champ) Tyrone Nurse is the fight I’m looking for or the winner of Josh Taylor and Dave Ryan (who contest the vacant Commonwealth title tonight). Jack Catterall is another one. He’s a good fighter but I see holes in his game. I know from how well I conduct myself in spars with top, top fighters that I can take almost anyone in Britain right now. I know my skill set.

BoxNation, the Channel of Champions, will televise this show on Sky (SD Ch.437 and HD Ch.490), Freeview (Ch.255), Virgin (Ch.546), TalkTalk (Ch.415), online at watch.boxnation.com and via apps (iOS, Android, Amazon).

Terence Crawford to return on December 10th

Terence Crawford
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBO/WBC Super Lightweight champion Terence Crawford will return to the ring on December 10th in Omaha, Nebraska.

“We’re hoping to get it done and hoping to get a good opponent,” Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum said. “We’re working on Dec. 10 for Crawford, but we and HBO only want to do it if it’s a significant fight.”

“We had a date on HBO in January, and they asked us if Crawford could move to December once they lost the Golovkin fight, and Crawford was OK with that,” Arum said.

“We’ll see what happens. We’re talking to them about trying to clear the date,” Arum said. “If they can’t do it, we’ll have to look to see where else we can go, but Terence is a great draw in Omaha.”

“He wants to fight,” Dunkin said. “He down (in San Juan, Puerto Rico) for the WBO convention and he ran into (Top Rank vice president) Carl Moretti and said he is ready to go. So he wants to fight. Right now it’s about getting an opponent and working out the money with everyone. Terence has never been a guy who doesn’t want to fight.”

Parker and Ruiz to vie for WBO Heavyweight title

After Tyson Fury gave up his heavyweight titleas, the WBO ruled that Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz will fight for the vacant title on December 10th, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

The bout will take place on December 10th in New Zealand.

Arum told ESPN that he and Lonergan met this week in Los Angeles and made a deal for the fight to take place in New Zealand, Parker’s home country, because that is where it would generate the most money. Arum said he has assurances there will be a neutral referee and judges.

Arum said the fight will be televised in the United States on tape delay on his “Solo Boxeo” series on Spanish-language network UniMas.

Arum said the deal he made with Lonergan was contingent on the WBO ordering the fight for the title, because they were unsure if it would be sanctioned when they met this week.

“We have worked a deal out with Parker’s people and Andy signed the contract earlier this week, but it was all subject to the sanction,” Arum said. “We got the sanction and it’s a done deal. I met with Dean on Monday. He was in California before he went on to the Puerto Rico for the convention.

“My (matchmakers) think Andy has a hell of a shot. The kid is pumped because apparently he’s sparred with Parker and more than held his own. I’ve seen some of Parker’s fights on YouTube clips. He’s a tremendous puncher but he doesn’t look to me to be particularly fast and Andy is a very fast heavyweight.”
“We checked with Abel about the date,” Arum said. “Andy is up there training with him now and Abel is absolutely free to do the fight on Dec. 10.”

“I see Ruiz as a fighter who has a lot of experience and will take this opportunity very serious,” Parker recently told ESPN when the prospect of the fight was raised. “He’s a dangerous fighter. With fighting good fighters it brings out the best in me.

“If we do fight for a world title and hold it in New Zealand it’ll be historic moment for myself, family and country. Exciting times ahead and I’m really looking forward to it. Also, fighting for a world title has always been a dream of mine. Dream come true to fight for it and win it.”

“If he wins the title Andy will be a very valuable fighter,” Arum said.

Arum even said he had an idea for who he could match Ruiz with if he wins the title. “I’ll put him in with (Julio Cesar) Chavez Jr.,” sad Arum, laughing about the former middleweight titleholder he used to promote and who has a notorious history of problems making weight.

ÓSCAR VALDEZ / JESSIE MAGDALENO MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

Oscar Valdez
LAS VEGAS, NEV. (October 20, 2016) — Undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight world champion ÓSCAR VALDEZ and undefeated No. 1 junior featherweight contender JESSIE MAGDALENO held a Media Workout on Thursday at Jack Rabbit Boxing Club in Long Beach, Calif. Both men are in deep training for their respective world championship fights which will take place as the co-features to the MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO – JESSIE VARGAS WBO welterweight world title fight, on Saturday, November 5, at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Valdez (21-0, 18 KOs), from Nogales, Mexico, who represented Mexico in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, was the first Mexican fighter to qualify for two Olympic games. He will be making his first title defense, against No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger Hiroshige Osawa (30-3-4, 19 KOs), from Osaka, Japan.

Magdaleno (23-0, 17 KOs), from Las Vegas, Nev., will be challenging four-division world champion NONITO “The Filipino Flash” DONAIRE (37-3, 24 KOs), from General Santos City, Philippines, for his WBO junior featherweight title.

Not only did they look ready, they sounded ready. Here’s what they had to say:

Óscar Valdez

“When you are a champion there is pressure to maintain your performance and keep your world title. I am defending against a tall, rangy fighter who has more fights than me. He really has an awkward style of fighting which is challenging for me as well. However it is nothing I have not seen before. I am going to win this one for Mexico.”

Jessie Magdaleno

“I am going against Nonito who is smart in the ring, has a dangerous left hook I must deal with. A real good hard shot to the body will take away some of his left hook power. And once he really opens up it’s better for me to get in big punches. He will be strong for about five rounds then there will be a fade and we will take it over. He’s a tough competitor for sure. But this is my dream fight, not his.”

Manny Robles on Óscar Valdez

“Óscar is a world champion for these reasons – dedication, determination, will to win, and the desire to be the best ever.

“While training Óscar we always told him ‘your next fight is your biggest ever — your world title fight.’ Now he is a world champion and he knows the real challenges of keeping the title belt.

“I’ve trained champions like Reggie Johnson, Martin Castillo, Israel Vasquez, Mike Anchondo and now Óscar. Those champions shared similarities in deep focus and strong desire. Óscar possesses those qualities too. I think he will become one of the greatest champions of all time.”

Manny Robles on Jessie Magdaleno

“Fighters like a lot of attention, a trainer who cares for him. That was my priority when I began training Jessie for this big title fight against Nonito Donaire.

“Jessie has done everything we’ve asked. We pay a lot of attention to him and he has responded with such hard training and dedication.

“Jessie has sparred for many rounds — 12 rounds yesterday alone – – and he is totally prepared to beat Donaire.”

Brad Goodman. Top Rank matchmaker

“Nonito and Jessie each have one-punch knockout power. This could be a one-punch knockout fight but I am not sure who wins it.”

DBE TRIO RADZHAB BUTAEV, AMANDA SERRANO AND TEVIN FARMER EARN IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES THIS PAST WEEK

dbe_logo
New York, NY (10/20/16) – Three boxers on DiBella Entertainment’s talented roster earned impressive victories over the past week.

Russian welterweight Radzhab Butaev improved to 3-0 (3 KOs) last night with a fourth-round knockout over Jonathan Batista at the Grady Cole Center, in Charlotte, NC. Butaev began pumping a stiff jab early on outboxing Batista, whose roughhouse tactics cost him two points for low blows. In round two, Butaev landed a thudding left hook to the ribs from which his foe never really recovered. A left hook-straight right combination in the fourth felled Batista for a full count, ending matters at the 2:01 mark.

Co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Fight Promotions Inc. and now living in Brooklyn, NY, the 22-year-old Butaev was a highly accomplished amateur, having compiled an incredible 304-12 record, with 164 knockouts. He participated in the World Series of Boxing as well, finishing at 9-1. Butaev will return to the ring on the next DiBella Entertainment Broadway Boxing card, on Saturday, November 19, at Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, CT.

“I’m happy to get the victory against Batista and am thankful for the opportunity to fight again in November,” said Butaev. “I want to stay active, keep winning and secure a place in the world rankings. I am just starting my professional career, but I am coming for all of the championship belts. I demand that the world know my name, and no opponent, no matter how great the challenge, will keep me from achieving my dreams.”

Tickets for the November 19 Broadway Boxing event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Teiken Promotions and presented by Cedars Mediterranean Foods, Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, and Christos Steak House, are priced at $125, $75 and $45. Tickets can be purchased online at Foxwoods.com, Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-200-2882, or visiting the Foxwoods box office. Doors open at 6:30pm, with the first fight scheduled for 7:00pm.

On Tuesday, October 18, Amanda Serrano, of Brooklyn, NY, demolished Hungarian Alexandra Lazar inside one round to seize the WBO junior featherweight belt and become the second Puerto Rican boxer, male or female, to win world titles in four weight divisions, tying Miguel Cotto’s record. She also joined Argentinean Alejandra Oliveras becoming the second female boxer to do so as well.

Held at the Hotel Caribe Hilton, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, during the annual WBO Convention, Serrano applied pressure from the start, quickly dropping Lazar in a corner with a blistering combination. Another barrage sent Lazar down a second time prompting the referee to halt the action just 44 seconds into the contest.

Serrano, now 30-1-1 (23 KOs), previously won the IBF world female junior lightweight title in 2011, WBO world female lightweight title in 2014, and WBO world female featherweight title in February. Eleven of Serrano’s 23 knockouts have come in the first round.

“I’m on cloud nine after winning my fourth world title in four divisions,” said Serrano. “A big thank you to my promoter Lou DiBella for believing in me. Tying the record with Miguel Cotto is an incredible feat for me. I won’t stop there because my next goal is to win the 140lb. title. Once that’s accomplished, I’ll decide if I can drop down to bantamweight to win that one too. I want it all in a radical way. If anyone ties my record, they won’t do it in the order that I did. To all my fans, buckle up for this crazy ride.”

Fighting in his hometown of Philadelphia for the first time in three years, junior lightweight contender Tevin Farmer dominated Nicaraguan Orlando Rizo over eight frames in a battle of southpaws at the 2300 Arena on Friday, October 14. Farmer focused on outboxing Rizo for much of the fight, switching his attack downstairs to break down Rizo’s body halfway through and in the final round, en route to winning a unanimous decision with scores of 78-72 twice, and 77-73.

Earning his 16th straight victory, Farmer improved to 23-4-1 (5 KOs). Currently ranked #5 by the WBC and #9 by the IBF, Farmer, a great, great nephew of legendary lightweight champion Joe Gans, will close out the year back in Philadelphia, defending his NABF title on Friday, December 2.

“Rizo was a solid opponent,” said Farmer. “I used that fight to work on my technique, refining certain punches, particularly my jab. I kept my jab on Rizo a lot, walked him down when my trainer told me to then I would switch back to the jab.

“The Rizo fight geared me up for this upcoming bout on December 2. You’re going to see a showcase performance from me. In this fight, I’m going to let it all out defending my NABF title.

“I want to keep climbing the world rankings. I think I’ve earned the right to secure either a title shot or a big money fight next year. I know Lou DiBella works hard to bring me the best opportunities out there. I will continue to prove myself in 2017.”

EXCLUSIVE FIGHTER SPOTLIGHT: David Lemieux Gives Look into his Boxing Career Ahead of Highly Anticipated Return Into the Ring on Oct.22

David Lemieux
LOS ANGELES (October 20, 2016) Stepping into the ring after a bloody fourth round knock out over Glen Tapia this past May in Las Vegas under the Canelo-Khan Card, David Lemieux has been gearing up for his highly anticipated return to the ring to take on Argentina’s Christian Fabian Rios at Montreal’s Bell Center this Saturday, October 22 in “Blood, Guts and Glory” presented by Eye of the Tiger Management, Golden Boy Promotions and InterBox in association with evenko and Videotron. Die-hard fans can watch the broadcast starting at 6:30 EST / 3:30 PT through PunchingGrace.com. Lemieux followers can also keep up to date with all of the fight week events here.

The hard-hitter gave an exclusive look into his life in the ring, his humble beginnings, and a survey of what is to come for the future.

Here is what Lemieux had to say in an exclusive Q&A Session:

What got you started into boxing?
“I fostered a love for boxing at such a young age. One day my neighbor, who was a fighter himself, was smoking a cigar on the balcony across from mine. We were both nine years old and he invited me to the gym because he knew that I loved to fight. Looking back, he saved me from a lot of run-ins with the police and kept me out of trouble. Ever since then, I have been unable to leave the sport. ”

What do you love the most about boxing?
“I love the respect and the feedback when you work hard in the sport. I love how there is no way to cheat. In the sport, everything you do in the ring has to be done perfectly, or else everyone can start to see the mistakes. It’s just you in the ring – no one else.”

What is it like working with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions?
“Working with Oscar and Golden Boy Promotions is a great motivation in my career and where I want to go. Oscar was the hero boxer growing up. I was obsessed with him growing up. Working alongside Golden Boy, and seeing all the great things they are doing in the boxing business, and me being a part of it is a big motivation, and I am proud to have them in my corner.”

How does it feel like to be fighting in front of large crowds?
“Excitement. A fighter wants to be known, a fighter wants to be seen. The bigger the crowd, the higher the energy, and that hypes me up. The crowds are the fuel in the ring, and I feed of their energy.”

How are you training for this fight?

“I have been training hard for this fight and trying to make sure to be in the ring with different sparring partners to make sure we are well prepared against Rios. We are doing everything that we can to ensure we don’t leave any detail behind.”

“Fans can expect explosions on October 22, especially if Rios brings it all. From my behalf, I promise a great show– our card has a lot of great fighters on it.”

After scoring an impressive knock out of Glenn Tapia this past May, what are you planning to accomplish in the ring this time around as you face Rios?
“My fight against Glenn Tapia was an important step after the Golovkin fight to get back on track. Now, Rios is another step to get back on the road to becoming a world champion – to win and to be impressive.

“I’ve been preparing very well, and we are taking him very seriously. We are expecting the best Rios that we can get. We are not taking him lightly. We are doing everything we need to do to make sure there are no surprises.”

Canadian Thanksgiving day has just been celebrated in your home country. Are there any things you are extra thankful for?
“Absolutely, I am thankful to God for everything. I am thankful for what I have to leave my mark in this world — the kids, the family and the friends that surround me so that I can achieve what I have to achieve and what I want to accomplish. I have all that I need to make it in this world, and I am so thankful for that.”

What do you do to get in your zone before a fight?
“I’m already in my zone when its fight time. I have a weird way of dealing with things. Sometimes it’s not even relevant to the fight that is before. It could be as simple as a distant memory or certain spaces and environments where I just can pull myself together. By the time I get in the ring I am where I need to be mentally.”

Looking back, what are some highlights to your career?
“Winning big – for sure the Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam fight which was personally one of my best fights. I also loved fighting against Gabriel Rosado, I thought he was a great fighter and it was the first time I fought on US soil on HBO. Also, winning against Guerrero was a huge win for me. I would also consider jumping into the ring with Golovkin as a highlight because it was a different type of fight. Although I didn’t get the result that I wanted, I got a ton of experience and learned what I had to do to get what I wanted. Because of that fight, we are in the process of taking what we learned and applying it to my career. I’m heading back to the top.

How would you describe your personality in the ring? How does that compare to your non-boxing personality?
“In the ring, I become a robot. I am no longer human. I have to destroy what is in front of me. There are no hard feelings if I hurt my opponent. If I have trained to do it on a punching bag, I will do it to the human in front of me in the ring. My opponent is thinking the same thing – he has trained to fight me, hurt me, and try to defeat me, and that’s why I am on my toes from start to finish. Business is business.”

Isaac Chilemba Teams Up with Roy Jones Jr. As He Prepares for Oleksandr Gvozdyk On Kovalev vs. Ward Televised Undercard Saturday, November 19 from T-Mobile Arena Presented Live by HBO Pay-Per-View®

Isaac Chilemba
Pensacola, Florida (October 20, 2016): As former light heavyweight title contender Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba (24-4-2, 10 KOs) gears up to face Ukrainian prospect Oleksandr Gvozdyk (11-0, 9 KOs) on the Kovalev-Ward HBO Pay-Per-View undercard, he will be training with former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr.

Chilemba, 29, originally from Malawi, but now residing in South Africa, is coming off the toughest fight of his career. On July 11, this road-warrior travelled to WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev’s home country of Russia to face the champion in front of a sold-out crowd in his own backyard. Despite the unanimous decision loss, Chilemba’s performance against Kovalev raised a lot of eyebrows in the boxing community. Chilemba managed to go the distance against the “Krusher” a distinction held only by one other fighter, future Hall of Famer Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins.

For a number of years, Chilemba had worked with trainer James “Buddy” McGirt but when McGirt was unable to make the trip to South Africa to train Chilemba for Kovalev, he needed to find another trainer. For his stunning performance against Kovalev, Chilemba trained with his manager, Jodi Solomon. The Kovalev fight gained the attention of former four-division world champion and Chilemba’s childhood hero, Roy Jones Jr., who contacted cut man Russ Anber and suggested the two work together going forward. Roy invited Chilemba and Solomon to his gym in Pensacola, Florida to discuss the opportunity of training together.

When asked about that initial meeting Solomon replied, “It was a very big deal for Chilemba because Jones was his childhood hero. The trip to Florida was a huge eye-opener. It was awesome to be in Jones’ gym and for Chilemba to see why he does the things he does and to understand his thought process. Chilemba loved every minute of it. Jones is very passionate about boxing. They connected and got along very well.”

Chilemba grew up watching Jones fight on television in Malawi and has tried to mirror Jones’ style throughout his own career. Chilemba is excited to work with his hero one-on-one now. He said, “For years I have been watching him and trying to learn some of his moves to make them to my own. Now I am very happy that I get to work with him. Jones is my favorite fighter of all time. Working with him is like a dream come true. When I was a kid growing up in Malawi, I used to watch him and try to fight like him. Now working with him is amazing. It is even better than what I expected. Roy Jones Jr. is a master and now I get to work with him and understand why he does what he does. I have always watched him fight and tried to copy him from watching him on the screen. Now I get to work with him in person. It is amazing!”

Roy Jones Jr. added, “It wasn’t just that fight against Kovalev that made me want to work with him. I have been watching Chilemba for some time. After that fight I said I would love to work with him. I saw Chilemba the first time he came to the United States and I realized he was emulating my exact style but he has never had a person who could fully explain it to him. Now he is shocked and amazed that he is able to integrate the nuances of my style. His opponent, Gvozdyk is a very good fighter. It is never easy to beat a fighter like him because he is a very smart guy. He was such a great amateur fighter. We do have our hands full but I am looking forward to seeing how Isaac takes the things that I teach him and uses them to break him down.”

Kovalev vs. Ward “Pound For Pound”, a 12-round mega-fight for the WBO/IBF/WBA Light Heavyweight World Titles, takes place Saturday, Nov. 19, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

GAVIN: I BEAT EGGINGTON EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK

Frankie Gavin says he beats Sam Eggington every day pf the week – and will prove it on Saturday night when they clash for the WBC International Welterweight title at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, live on Sky Sports.

Gavin and Eggington meet in a local derby that has grown fiercer by the day as the stakes become clear – promoter Eddie Hearn told today’s press conference that the loser’s career at the top level could be finished, a fate both fighters agreed with.

Gavin has boxed for a World title when he met IBF champion Kell Brook in May 2015 and the pair were set to meet for Eggington’s British and Commonwealth belts this time last year but Gavin pulled out of the fight with a foot injury.

Eggington has since surrendered those crowns to Bradley Skeete, who Gavin beat in November 2014, and Gavin believes that he’ll claim the vacant WBC International crown and move onto bigger things with a KO victory over his local rival.

“I beat Sam every day of the week,” said Gavin. “We know what Sam is going to do, he’s going to come and fight because he can’t sit off me, so it’s up to me to keep him off me, box his head off and land my big shots.

“He’s not the brightest, you can tell that by listening to him, but he’s game and he’s got grit, determination and gives it 100 per cent, so this is going to be a tough fight. He’s not got the best boxing IQ. I will say what I want about him though because I am going to knock him out.

“Skeete beat Sam easy. Before that fight Sam was getting rid of everyone, but the minute he gets in with a mover, he struggles. I probably won’t move as much as Skeete but my lateral and head movement is better and I punch inside better.

“This is the only domestic fight I would take. I want to make an impact on the World scene and it’s fighting the likes of Chris van Heerden after this one that would get me back up there.

“Hearing that he’s more spiteful in the gym since losing to Skeete is just nonsense. You know what you are going to get with Sam, he’s not going to come out and be technical; he’s just going to come forward. He’s technically poor and I am a lot harder to hit than Skeete, I am a smaller target and a southpaw. Even if he has improved, it’s not going to make any difference, I am better than him and I’m going to stop him.”
