Felix Diaz to return December 10th

Felix_Diaz
Welterweight contender Felix Diaz will return on December 10th in his native Dominican Republic, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“Felix Diaz wants a big fight and he wants to stay on people’s radar, and you can’t do that if you don’t fight,” promoter DiBella said. “He wants to fight [unified junior welterweight world champion] Terence Crawford, but he has to stay active and keep making a name for himself to get those kinds of fights. The win against Sammy Vasquez was a start. I look forward to seeing him back in the ring.”

We want to get him back in the ring this year, no matter what kind of fight it is,” DiBella said. “There isn’t a big fight for him right now, but Felix Diaz is unlike a lot of fighters. He is willing to fight for the money that is there for the level of fight this will be. But he is extremely popular in the Dominican Republic, so he is going to fight on the island in sort of a homecoming fight.”

“We’ll publicize the fight as much as we can and keep the pressure on everybody and try to force the issue that Felix Diaz deserves a big fight,” DiBella said. “He’s an Olympic gold medalist, extremely talented; he was crowd-pleasing against Sammy Vasquez, and the only loss of his career is a loss you can easily argue wasn’t really a loss to Lamont Peterson. Felix Diaz is a beast in the ring, but he has to earn his shot and that’s what he is doing. Credit to him. He’s going to stay active and force his way into a big fight.”

AMANDA SERRANO VIES FOR FOURTH WORLD TITLE AT WBO CONVENTION IN PUERTO RICO

Amanda-Serrano-Boxing360_card
New York, NY (10/17/16) – Female boxing sensation Amanda Serrano (29-1-1, 22 KOs) will fight in Puerto Rico for the second time this year when she takes on Hungarian Alexandra Lazar tomorrow, October 18, at the Hotel Caribe Hilton, in San Juan, during the annual WBO Convention, with the vacant WBO junior featherweight title at stake.

Now a three-division world champion, Serrano, who was born in Puerto Rico then raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, gravitated toward boxing after watching her older sister Cindy compete in the sport. Winning the 2008 New York Golden Gloves tournament, Serrano turned pro the following year and her exceptional athletic ability and power were quickly apparent. Ten of her 22 knockouts thus far have come in the first round.

In 2011, Serrano won the IBF world female junior lightweight title with a second-round stoppage of Kimberly Connor in New York. Traveling to Sweden in April 2012, Serrano suffered her only defeat via 10-round decision to the unbeaten hometown favorite Frida Wallberg for the WBC junior lightweight world title. Moving up to lightweight in 2014, Serrano seized the WBO world female 135lb. title on August 15, with a sixth-round knockout over Maria Maderna in Argentina. Signing with DiBella Entertainment in 2016, Serrano demolished Canadian Olivia Gerula inside one round on February 17, to claim the WBO world female featherweight title. She then retained that belt with a first-round stoppage of Colombian Calista Silgado on July 30, to become the first female boxer to defend a world title at Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, NY.

Moving back down to the junior featherweight limit to face Lazar, Serrano is attempting to tie Miguel Cotto’s record and become only the second Puerto Rican boxer, male or female, to win world titles in four weight classes. If successful, she will also be the second female boxer to accomplish such a feat.

“I’m super excited about becoming a four-division world champion and tying my idol Miguel Cotto’s record in that merit,” said Serrano. “I would like to thank Lou DiBella, the best promoter in the world, for this opportunity. Lou works so hard with my team to make sure my dreams materialize.”

“People may say that Amanda Serrano is one of the best female fighters in the world. I know that she is one of the best fighters in the world, period; Amanda truly has star potential,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “I believe that not only will she tie the record to become the second Puerto Rican boxer to win world titles in four divisions, she will one day surpass it.”

The 20-year-old Lazar, of Budapest, turned pro in June of last year. The only blemish on her record is a loss to the French Karine Rinaldo in France, for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) female junior featherweight title on November 27, 2015, in a bout she took on a few days notice. Since then, Lazar has won four straight, including a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Kleopatra Tolnai, to win the WBC Youth female bantamweight title in her last bout on April 16.

Already the current IBO Inter-Continental Welterweight Champion, Mueller (20-1-1, 14 KOs) is scheduled to face IBF #3 Jeff Horn on October 21 at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Queensland, Australia, in an eliminator for the IBF’s #2 contender position.

With current champion Kell Brook rumored to be moving up in weight, if 28-year-old Mueller is victorious against Horn, he would likely find himself in line to fight top contender Errol Spence Jr., for the vacant world championship, since they would be rated #1 and #2 respectively.

“Big things are happening in my career and I need the right representation to help guide my career,” said Mueller. “Greg Cohen Promotions has a long history of moving their fighters to the championship level and I’m happy to be onboard.”

“Boxing has obviously undergone a shift, with a large percentage of its talent now located in Europe. He’s an excellent fighter with the right work ethic to become world champion.”

Mueller will be in tough against Horn, who stopped one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing, former multi world champion Randall Bailey, in his last ring appearance.

“Rico is tough and he knows the challenge in front of him,” said Cohen, “but he’s a tremendous talent and I see him rolling along to an impressive victory. After that, it’ll be a world title shot against Kell Brook or Errol Spence and a shot at boxing stardom. I’m happy to be a part of this huge time in his career.”

FORMER TWO-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION AND ALL-TIME LEGEND BERNARD HOPKINS TO TAKE ON RISING LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER JOE SMITH, JR. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17 AT THE FABULOUS FORUM TELEVISED LIVE ON HBO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING®

Bernard Hopkins
LOS ANGELES (October 17, 2016) – A boxing legend will look to add an exclamation point to end his professional career with the same style, speed and slickness that has defined him in the ring for nearly three decades, as 51-year-old, two-division former world champion and Future Hall of Hamer Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (55-7-2, 32 KOs) prepares to square off against hard-hitting Light Heavyweight contender Joe Smith, Jr. (21-1, 18 KOs) in a 12-round fight from Los Angeles’ iconic Fabulous Forum. The bout will take place Saturday, December 17 and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing®.

Tickets for the fight – named, “The Final One” — will go on sale Monday, October 24th at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Hopkins’ resume reads like a Hall-of-Fame induction ballot. Between holding the record for the record number of title defenses as middleweight champion of the world (20) and moving up to light heavyweight to capture multiple belts in that division, Hopkins fought and defeated a who’s who of boxing world champions throughout his remarkable 28-year career.

Roy Jones, Jr., John David “Action” Jackson, Glen “Road Warrior” Johnson, Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver, Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik, Jean Pascal, Chad “Bad” Dawson, and Golden Boy Promotions business partner Oscar De La Hoya all tasted defeat at the hands of the executioner.

“While ‘The Alien’ may be retired, the ‘Executioner’ has one fight left, and Joe Smith Jr., is going to find out the hard way how well prepared I am for my final fight,” Bernard Hopkins said. “A lot of people will focus on my age, the history of my run in the sport, the titles, etc…but I’m focused on one thing – knocking Joe Smith out.”

Joe Smith Jr., who was born in 1989, nearly three years after Hopkins had his first fight, is coming off the victory of his career, delivering a brutal first-round knockout of established contender Andrzej Fonfara in June and earning the WBC International Light Heavyweight Championship. The belt will not be at stake in this fight.

“I’m very excited about fighting on HBO,” said Joe Smith Jr. “I know now all my hard work and dedication has paid off. I am looking forward to retiring a boxing legend”

“To accomplish what Bernard has over the course of nearly 30 years inside the ring and still competing at the highest level of the sport at the age of 51; what else can you call him but a bona fide legend,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “All of us at Golden Boy Promotions are so proud to work with Bernard each and every day and can’t wait to give him the send-off he deserves with an incredibly, dynamic promotion over the next two months.”

“I’m thrilled that we have put together this exciting fight,” said Joe DeGuardia, President and CEO of Star Boxing. “What a great opportunity for Joe Smith Jr. to follow-up on his sensational victory on national TV with a fight against a legend like Bernard Hopkins on HBO. ”

“For any generation and in any sport, Bernard Hopkins is an athletic marvel who has defied time and the odds as deftly as he has his critics, and he returns to HBO for the 23rd time when he faces Joe Smith in the iconic setting of the Forum in Inglewood, CA,” said Peter Nelson, executive Vice President, HBO Sports. “Bernard’s mark on the sport is already an indelible one, and one day he’ll be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Dec. 17 will be a memorable night of boxing for everybody associated with Team Hopkins, and we are excited to telecast his farewell fight.”

“We are proud to welcome our friends at Golden Boy Promotions and HBO back to the ‘Fabulous’ Forum when we host this highly-anticipated Dec. 17th battle between light heavyweights Bernard Hopkins and Joe Smith Jr.,” said Nick Spampanato, Senior Vice President West Coast and General Manager of The Forum and MSG.

Golden Boy Promotions is currently working on a new co-main event, as an injury to Orlando “Siri” Salido’s back has forced him off the card. Golden Boy will announced the co-main and full card in the coming weeks.

Hopkins vs. Smith is a 12-round light heavyweight battle presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Star Boxing and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, BORN BOLD and Casa Mexico Tequila. The event will be televised live on HBO’s flagship series beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Tickets priced at $205, 105, $75, $50, and $25, not including applicable service charges and taxes, with a total ticket limit of 12 per person, go on sale Monday October 24, 2016 at 10:00 am PST. BRADLEY SKEETE VS. SHAYNE SINGLETON ADDED TO NOVEMBER 25 BRENTWOOD CENTRE SHOW

Following the withdrawal of Brentwood’s English Middleweight title challenger Joe Mullender from his rematch with Romford champion Lee Markham, Bradley Skeete (24-1 10 KOs) will now make the first defence of his British Welterweight title against Manchester’s Shayne Singleton (23-1 8 KOs) at the Brentwood Centre on November 25, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Stylish South Londoner Skeete is flying up the world rankings – ranked sixth by the WBO and seventh by the IBF – and has his heart set on winning the Lonsdale Belt outright before targeting world honours in 2017.

The co-feature of the night sees Romford’s Lee Markham defending his English Middleweight title against Midlander Andrew Robinson who replaces the injured Mullender. Markham, who already holds a win over Mullender, previously drew with Frank Buglioni who outpointed Robinson back in 2014. However, both men were venturing out of their natural Middleweight division and at 160 pounds this is a real 50/50 battle.

Chingford’s emerging and undefeated Boy Jones Jnr (10-0 7 KOs) challenges for his first professional title in the Vacant Southern Area Super-Featherweight Championship against Kent man Martin Hillman (7-2 2 KOs). Jones Jnr, trained by Essex duo Dominic Negus and Lennie Butcher, is widely tipped for big things after racing to his tenth pro win earlier this month at the tender age of 19.

Ilford’s Light-Heavyweight sensation Anthony Yarde (8-0 7 KOs) is another exciting addition to an already action-packed show. The hard-hitting knockout king recently fought on the undercard of Liam Smith’s blockbuster World title showdown with Mexican pound-for-pound star Canelo Alvarez at the incredible Dallas Cowboys home, the AT&T Stadium in Texas and is readying himself for an assault on the light-heavy domestic scene with his first appearance in his native Essex.

A special attraction for Essex fans sees the professional debut of Hornchurch’s 20 year-old Harley Benn, the son of the iconic ‘Dark Destroyer’ Nigel Benn who won World titles at two weights in the 1990’s. Harley will make his professional bow 25 years after his father defeated Lenzie Morgan at the Brentwood Centre in 1991 in between his two epic encounters with his nemesis, Chris Eubank.

Ironically, Croydon’s Nathaniel ‘Banks’ Wilson also appears on the show 27 years after his own father, one Chris Eubank Snr stopped Les Wisniewski at the venue in 1989.

Prospects including Chadwell Heath’s unbeaten Super-Welterweight Ben Hall and South Ockendon Super-Lightweight Charlie Driscoll also appear on the show alongside the hugely popular Chelmsford Super-Middleweight Billy ‘The Bomb’ Long and Hornchurch’s Super-Lightweight Sanjeev Sahota, who between them will ensure the Brentwood Centre will be packed to the rafters for what promises to be a memorable night for Essex fight fans.

The show is being promoted by WAM Boxing; a new promotional company headed up by Brentwood based Promoter Andy Ayling who also manages English Champion Markham. WAM Boxing is a partnership between Ayling and his partners Francis Warren and Jason McClory. All three have worked together for many years alongside Hall of Fame Promoter Frank Warren.

Tickets are available priced at Ringside £100, Reserved £60 and Unreserved £40 on www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 0844 844 0444. WAM Boxing can be contacted on 01992 505 550.

PHILADELPHIA BOXER-COP MANNY FOLLY “SHOWS HIS STRIPES” FOR CHARITY

PHILADELPHIA – October 16, 2016 – At only 24 years old, Victory Boxing Promotions and Cameron Dunkin signee Manny Folly (7-0, 5KO) has already seen the best and worst of what his hometown of Philadelphia has to offer. In addition to being a highly-touted boxing prospect who is preparing for his eighth bout in his hometown on November 11th, Folly is two years into his career as a Philadelphia Police Officer.

Last Friday, Folly was able to enjoy the more positive aspect of his chosen profession, participating in the department’s “Show Your Stripes” charity fundraiser benefiting Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House alongside 6000 or so fellow officers of the Philadelphia Police Department. Each year the officers buy scarves, socks and hats, dress up, and interact with the children of Ronald McDonald House. “It’s a welcome break from the stresses of being on the job,” said Folly. “It’s about effective community policing, and showing these kids that police officers don’t just chase bad guys.”

At a time when 24 hour news channels broadcast images of a country divided when it comes to Police, Folly’s sense of personal responsibility and accountability weighs heavy on his shoulders. “I knew at four or five years old that I wanted to be a cop.” Folly’s Godfather was also ‘on the job,’ and allowed his Godson to play in his Police car as a child. “I see every day as an opportunity to bridge the gap between the community and the Police. We’re held to a higher standard, and have to set an example for the young people in our communities. The area I grew up in is no joke. The kids at my gym, 60 or 70 on any given night, they are watching. They see everything. I want them to know that just because you come from a certain area, or grow up under certain circumstances, you don’t have to choose that lifestyle.”

Exuding maturity beyond his years, the super bantamweight has no plans to let any life challenges derail his goal of becoming a multi-division world champion. The youngest of seven boys, Folly grew up in the Kensington area of North Philadelphia, an area rife with violence and drug dealers liberally sprinkled amidst struggling families. Folly’s brothers introduced him to fighting at a young age. “I was four or five years old, and my brothers would wake me up in the middle of the night to go fist fight,” said Folly. At thirteen, he was invited to begin training at Rock Ministries Gym by trainer Buddy Osborne. After a brief amateur career, which saw Folly winning two Ringside World Championships and beating several notable and more experienced fighters in his weight class, Folly and Osborne determined that the young fighter had the goods to compete at the elite level, and that it was time to turn their attention to the professional ranks.

When Folly’s debut was scheduled for April 26, 2013, boxer and trainer had no idea that Folly would face his toughest adversity to date. Nine days before he was set to debut, Folly’s oldest brother, who was his biggest fan and one of the main voices encouraging him in his boxing career, was murdered. As Osborne and others implored Folly to postpone his debut, he was reminded of advice his brother gave him shortly before his passing. “I was running errands with my brother, and I was nervous about making my debut,” recalled Folly. “I asked him, ‘How far do you think I can go?’ He said, ‘You can go as far as you allow yourself to go.’” Folly moved forward with his scheduled fight, winning via knockout in the second round. “I fought off a lot of emotions that night. I was proud of myself because I stayed focused and I got the job done.” He recalls that night as the most poignant of his young career. “I have a lot of supporters. When I looked out into the crowd and I saw all the people there supporting me, and didn’t see my older brother there…that hit me harder than any punch ever could. I’m still learning how to deal with it, and it’s making me strong as a person.”

While a stranger who wanders into Rock Ministries Gym might see Folly as one of scores of fighters hitting the pads or jumping rope with visions of belts dancing in his head, his friends, family, fellow officers, community, and perhaps most of all, the children who train alongside him in the gym see a hero – a man who puts his life on the line daily for his community and for boxing fans.

Manny Folly fights Friday, November 11th at 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia. Tickets start at $40, and are available at VictoryBoxingPromotions.com.

PHILADELPHIA HOMECOMING FOR TEVIN FARMER

tevin-farmer-640x480
New York, NY (10/14/16) – Fighting in his hometown of Philadelphia for the first time in three years, junior lightweight contender Tevin Farmer (22-4-1, 5 KOs) will challenge Orlando Rizo (19-7, 11 KOs) this evening in a battle of southpaws at 2300 Arena.

Following a handful of amateur bouts and a 7-4-1 start as a pro, Farmer’s career prospects looked dim. However, he rededicated himself after his last defeat in 2012 to Jose Pedraza, now the IBF junior lightweight champion, and has since won 15 bouts in a row, consistently beating the odds, while signing with DiBella Entertainment (DBE) in 2014. Farmer made his New York debut this year on a DBE Broadway Boxing event in March to win the NABF junior lightweight title and, four months later, secured his biggest victory thus far with a 10-round unanimous decision over 19-1 lightweight contender Ivan Redkach on July 30, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Currently ranked #5 by the WBC and #9 by the IBF, Farmer, a great, great nephew of legendary lightweight champion Joe Gans, is on the cusp of a world title opportunity. He is determined to secure a dominant win over Rizo tonight as he works his way toward that goal.

A Nicaraguan now living in Puerto Rico, Rizo is a former interim WBC FECARBOX and Nicaraguan junior featherweight champion, and has only been stopped once in his career.

On Sunday, October 16, Farmer will be honored at the Ninth Annual Briscoe Awards, held at XFINITY Live! in Philadelphia for his 2015 winning performance against the 30-2 former world title challenger Daulis Prescott. On August 8 last year, Farmer dropped Prescott three times over eight frames to earn a knockout victory, in a bout televised by HBO Latino. The Briscoe Awards previously recognized Farmer as the “Breakout Fighter of the Year” in 2013 at the outset of his career transformation.

“I’m happy to be fighting in front of my fans, friends and family and those in Philadelphia who may have never seen me live before,” said Farmer. “Three years ago, I was a club fighter and now I am a world class contender. I can’t wait to show my city how much I have improved. I love my city and my city loves me.

“I’m honored to be receiving the Briscoe Award on Sunday for my fight against Prescott,” Farmer continued. “There were a lot of great performances by Philadelphians last year. Prescott was a tough fighter. I demonstrated my skills early on then showed that I could knock people out in the later rounds.”

“Tevin Farmer’s story is an inspiring one,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “To bring himself from journeyman status to now being considered a potential world title challenger is truly remarkable. Tonight, he will show his hometown fans how far he has come in the last three years, and I will continue to work hard to make his world title dream a reality.”

Hoff, Gonzalez both confident they’ll weather the storm in next Friday’s anticipated featherweight war

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 14th, 2016) — Without a lengthy amateur background or the unwavering support from the city he grew up in, Cido Hoff knows the only way to prove he’s a legitimate contender in the featherweight division is to take the fights others won’t.

Next Friday at Twin River Casino, the Providence native faces Irvin Gonzalez, a decorated amateur, who, along with stablemate Jamaine Ortiz, is one of two fighters from Worcester, Mass., who qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials in Reno, Nev., on the undercard of CES Boxing’s 2016 Twin River Fight Series season finale.

While Hoff (1-0-1) may be short on amateur experience – only 30 fights or so, compared to Gonzalez’s lengthier background – he’s overflowing with confidence as he faces the toughest test of his young career in a four-round regional showdown that could steal the spotlight from the Chris Chatman-Khiary Gray main event.

“I can’t knock him. He’s in shape. Good fighter, but if he makes a mistake, we’ll definitely take advantage,” Hoff said. “He’s good. I can’t deny that, but I don’t think he’s faced anybody like me. I don’t think he’s ready for me, honestly. We’ll find out what he’s got.”

Hoff made his professional debut in December of 2015, right around the same time Gonzalez and Ortiz were in Nevada competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. He fought to a draw against Timmy Ramos, another well-publicized amateur who already had two pro fights under his belt, despite knocking Ramos to the canvas in the early rounds. Six months later, he defeated the previously unbeaten Julio Perez, dominating all four rounds in the biggest upset of the night.

The 25-year-old Hoff has thrived as an underdog, but Gonzalez, now 3-0 with all three wins coming by first-round knockout, isn’t concerned about falling into the same trap as Ramos and Perez, even if this fight is a legitimate step up in competition from his previous three bouts.

“I’m not scared of him,” Gonzalez said. “I’m not worried because I know I’m going to be able to handle it and I know I’m going to be able to take him out in a few rounds.

“The thing is he has to be ready for me. He hasn’t fought a fighter like me. He hasn’t fought a fighter who has the amateur background I have. Those other fighters aren’t like me – not at all – and he’s not like me. We’ll see what happens. I don’t really think it’s going to be that big a test for me, just a tougher opponent that I’ll take out.”

Gonzalez fell in love with boxing at the age of 10, which is when he first stepped foot in the gym despite his father’s initial restraint. Ten years later, Gonzalez’s father, Irvin Gonzalez Sr., is now his son’s biggest supporter, or, as the younger Gonzalez puts it, “the one who keeps me on my toes.”

“Of course, since we’re father and son we’re always arguing,” Gonzalez said, “but we know when it comes down to business we need to do what we need to do and we handle it.”

After losing to two-time national champion Ruben Villa, Gonzalez failed to make the 123-pound weight limit for his next bout in Reno and was disqualified, ending his Olympic dream, but he turned pro shortly thereafter, stopping Gilvan Santos in his debut in March.

There’s definitely pressure on Gonzalez to keep winning and keep developing as a pro, especially considering his amateur background, but Hoff faces a different challenge, more of an internal struggle to prove to himself he’s every bit as good as his peers despite his limited experience.

“On paper, I’m nothing spectacular, but I’m pretty confident and I’ll fight whoever,” said Hoff, who trains with Jose Santos out of 401 Boxing.

“Jose and I make a point of being ready because you never know when the call might come. I understand that the opportunity can come along and they may underestimate you and that’s when you can come in and beat these guys. You’ve got to stay ready. I always want to get better, so I’m always in the gym.

“I always feel like I have to show how much I’ve improved. A lot of people have counted me out, so I want to show them I have what it takes. If you doubt me, you’ll see.”

After his last fight, a first-round knockout win over Mike Heffelfinger in September, Gonzalez was adamant he wanted a test in his next bout. He’ll get one on the 21st against the underdog who’s made a habit of pushing his opponents to the limit.

“After taking those first three guys out in the first round, I want to see if I can go the distance,” Gonzalez said. “Not that I want to go the distance, but, then again, if I can take someone out in the first or second round, I’m going to take them out.”

Tickets for Oct. 21st are priced at $47.00, $67.00, $102.00 and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Headlining the Oct. 21st fight card is the eight-round Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Junior Middleweight International and Northeast title bout between the champion Gray (13-1, 10 KOs), also of Worcester, Mass., and the challenger Chatman (14-5-1, 5 KOs) of Chicago, Ill.

Worcester middleweight Kendrick Ball Jr. (3-0-1, 3 KOs) aims for his fourth win in his fifth pro fight in a four-round bout against Oregon’s Rafael Valencia (3-4-1, 2 KOs) and Worcester super middleweight Ben Peak makes his professional debut in a four-round bout against Jose Rivera (1-0, 1 KO) of Hartford, Conn.

Former amateur standout Anthony Marsella Jr. (1-0) of Providence makes his Rhode Island debut against Philadelphia’s Bardraiel Smith (0-1) in a four-round junior welterweight bout and Ortiz (2-0, 2 KOs) puts his unbeaten record on the line against veteran junior welterweight Isaiah Robinson (3-3, 2 KOs) of Durham, N.C.

New London, Conn., junior welterweight Cristobal Marrero (1-0, 1 KO) takes on Woburn, Mass., vet Bruno Dias (0-1) and junior welterweight Jonathan Figueroa (1-0, 1 KO) of Hartford, Conn., faces Florida’s Irvin Veloz, both in four-round bouts.

BELLEW: I KNOW HOW DESPERATE FLORES IS – BUT IT’S NOT ENOUGH

HBO Boxing After Dark Weigh-In: Adonis Stevenson vs Tony Bellew
Tony Bellew says B.J. Flores is a danger to his WBC World Cruiserweight crown as the challenger is in the last chance saloon – but vowed to KO him in the first defence of his strap at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, live on Sky Sports.

Bellew landed the strap with a brutal KO win in May over Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park in a fight that he said was his final crack at landing a World crown after two failed attempts at Light-Heavyweight.

Flores’ only two losses have come on points in World title clashes – Danny Green for the IBO crown in November 2010 and Beibut Shumenov for the interim WBA Strap in July 2015. The 37 year old has admitted that defeat would all but spell the end of his ambitions at the elite level, and although Bellew knows that feeling all too well, he’s ready to use his ‘freaky power’ to destroy the dreams of ‘El Peligroso’.

“He’s in the last chance saloon so I know what’s going through his mind,” said Bellew, who hit the scales at 14st 3lbs 4oz – one ounce more than Flores. “He’s telling himself that he’s going to wipe the floor with me, that he cannot lose this fight. But what he fails to recognise is, you cannot build up the fortitude or mental toughness in ten weeks that I’ve built up in 20 years. I’ve been doing it the right way for 20 years, he’s been doing it the right way for ten weeks. He doesn’t live the life I do.

“We’re two different people from two different worlds, when I go through a 12-week camp, the RSPCA should shut our gym down. Animal testing doesn’t come close to what I go through in there. What I go through is worse than any fight, the last Friday before fight week is the worst pain imaginable but I have to do it.

“A well-respected American boxer and broadcaster said to me recently the best way to describe Flores is he’s a good tough fighter, but he’s a boxer that’s always wanted to be a movie star. He can box, but he wants to be an actor and if you look at his career, that makes perfect sense. He just wants to take selfies with stars than work on his career. He’s a clown and I am going to expose him.

“He said that he’s going to show me what he’s all about in round one, well, if he does that he’s not going to see round two because he will be asleep. If I connect with any Heavyweight or Cruiserweight in the world, I hurt you. I don’t care how big you are, I have this freaky power, I don’t know where it’s from because I am just this fat-skinny guy that can box a bit. I’m not the biggest or the strongest or fastest or best, but I can put people to sleep and it’s a gift.”

Bellew’s clash with Flores is part of a huge night of action in Liverpool Olympic gold medal star Luke Campbell MBE defends his WBC Silver Lightweight title against Derry Mathews.

Belfast star Ryan Burnett defending his British Bantamweight title against Liverpool’s Ryan Farrag, Sean Masher Dodd defends his WBC International Lightweight title against Francesco Patera, Tom Farrell faces Farid Hakimi for the WBA International Super-Lightweight title and Liverpool favourite Rocky Fielding is set for action.

Tickets are on sale now via www.echoarena.com or by calling 0844 8000 400 priced at £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150. VIP tickets will be available exclusively from www.matchroomboxing.com

Face value tickets for Bellew vs. Flores are also be available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ . StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua.

MAURICE HOOKER VS. DARLEYS PEREZ JOIN KOVALEV-WARD “POUND FOR POUND” TELEVISED UNDERCARD

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (October 14, 2016) – Rising Dallas, Texas boxing star and NABO Junior Welterweight Champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (21-0-2, 16 KOs) will defend his NABA junior welterweight title against Darleys Perez (33-2-1, 21 KOs) in a ten-round bout on the televised undercard of Kovalev-Ward “Pound For Pound” on Saturday, Nov. 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

In his last appearance on August 6, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker captivated the crowd at Oracle Arena as the co-feature of Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand. Hooker wasted no time outperforming Washington D.C.’s Tyrone Barnett, landing a flurry of punches before scoring a technical knockout at the 2:17 mark of the opening round to retain his NABO junior welterweight title. Hooker looks ahead to his next challenge, former WBA World Lightweight Champion Darleys Perez. Perez is coming off a May 20 knockout victory over fellow Colombian Ubadel Soto, an impressive bounce back following a tough title defense loss to Anthony Crolla, the previous year. The veteran fighter, who resides and trains full-time in the U.S., will step up a weight class to meet Hooker.

“I want to thank my team at Maple Avenue Boxing Gym, Roc Nation Sports and HBO for giving me the opportunity to show the world a ‘Mighty Mo’ performance on the undercard of the ‘Fight of the Year’,” said Hooker. “For my part, I promise to put on a show for the fans in Las Vegas and the Pay-Per-View audience at home. No one punches like me. It’s going to be lights out.”
Hooker added, “I will be dedicating this fight to Aaron Pyror, who passed away, earlier this week. I can’t think of a better way to honor ‘The Hawk’s’ legacy than with a big win. I look to be a world-class junior welterweight champion like him.”

“This is my chance get back into the limelight. I have fought all over the world and facing Maurice Hooker in Las Vegas on November 19 is perhaps my last chance to show that I have a lot left inside the ring and I plan to take full advantage of it because losing is not an option,” said Perez. “I will move up to the 140-pound division and I will be ready to challenge this young lion who has never fought a guy like me before. There will be fireworks in Las Vegas and I plan to go home a winner.”

“Not only is Kovalev-Ward the most anticipated fight in recent boxing history, with the addition of Hooker-Perez to the televised undercard – Nov. 19 is an evening that international sports fans simply cannot afford to miss,” said Roc Nation President & Chief of Branding and Strategy Michael R. Yormark. “From our very first day in boxing, Roc Nation Sports has committed to making great fights and creating scintillating global events, and we are thrilled to work with Main Events to add this incredible matchup to the undercard, as ‘Mighty Mo’ Hooker puts his undefeated record on the line against the very talented Colombian Darleys Perez.”

“HBO is the pinnacle of pugilistic entertainment. We are very proud to have Maurice Hooker make both his Las Vegas and HBO Pay-Per-View debut on November 19,” said Arnie Verbeek, Hooker’s manager. “We have worked extremely hard to get to this point in his career and are thankful to Roc Nation Sports for believing in Maurice Hooker’s talent.”

Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (21-0-2, 16 KOs) was born and raised in Oak Cliff, Texas, where he found a boxing home at Maple Avenue Boxing Gym by way of an outreach program for at-risk youths. His natural talent was soon noticed resulting in him competing as an amateur, during which time he participated in over 100 fights, compiling a record of 97 wins and only seven losses, with 67 victories coming by way of knockout. Hooker turned professional on April 29, 2011, taking on the vastly more experienced Tyrone Chatman at the Orpheum Theater in St. Louis. After four rounds, the judges saw the fight 40-36, 37-39 and 38-38, calling the fight a split draw. Undeterred, in his next fight on June 24, 2014, Hooker scored his first professional win, knocking out Wilbert Mitchell in the first round. Eleven wins (eight by knockout) later, he took on undefeated Abel Ramos on January 17, 2014 in a bout that was featured on ShoBox from the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. After eight close, hard-fought rounds, the judges saw the fight a draw. Four consecutive knockout victories would follow before he took on fellow undefeated prospect Eduardo Galindo on June 26, 2015 at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas for the vacant NABO junior welterweight title. “Mighty Mo” did not disappoint his legion of hometown fans who saw him capture the title with a sixth round technical knockout victory. On October 17, 2015, Hooker successfully defended his title at Madison Square Garden in New York City against his toughest opponent to date in Ghislain Maduma. The 10-round decision win came on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux and was featured on the event’s “freeview” as well as streamed online around the world. “Mighty Mo” made his debut under the Roc Nation Sports banner on the undercard of Andre Ward vs. Sullivan Barrera, this past March at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, where he annihilated opponent Wilfrido “La Roca” Buelvas of Columbia in the first round of a 10-round junior welterweight bout by way of technical knockout. Hooker returned to Oracle Arena on August 6 as the co-feature on the Ward-Brand undercard, defeating Tyrone Barnett of Washington, D.C., to remain the NABO Junior Welterweight Champion. Hooker is ready to step up to the challenge on November 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas when he faces former WBA World Lightweight Champion Darleys Perez.

Darleys Perez (33-2-1, 21 KOs) is a celebrated Colombian boxer hailing from San Pedro de Uraba. As an amateur, with a record of 82 wins and 7 losses, he captured the lightweight boxing gold medal at the 2006 South American games in Buenos Aries, Argentina, and was a contender at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, China. Perez made his professional debut on February 14, 2009, by way of knockout over fellow countryman Edwin Ortiz. 27 consecutive victories followed, earning Perez a shot at the interim WBA World lightweight title against undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada on June 8, 2013. In a closely-fought contest that went the distance, Gamboa prevailed, handing Perez his first career loss. A year later, Perez received a second chance at the interim WBA World lightweight title, successfully scoring a unanimous decision over Argenis Lopez at the Sheraton Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Perez was promoted to full titleholder status when the WBA stripped Richar Abril of the belt for twice failing to make title defenses. In the first of back-to-back defenses of the WBA World lightweight title on July 18, 2015, Perez topped hometown challenger Anthony Crolla with a majority decision draw at the Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom. In the rematch on November 21, 2015, again at Manchester Arena, Perez was taken down for the count in the fifth round by a single body shot. Undeterred by his second loss, Perez returned to the ring on May 20, 2016, scoring with a big second-round knockout over Ubadel Soto. Perez looks to continue his upward streak as he moves up a weight class to take on Maurice Hooker for the NABO junior welterweight title on November 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Kovalev vs. Ward “Pound For Pound”, a 12-round mega-fight for the WBO/IBF/WBA light heavyweight title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, is presented by Main Events, Roc Nation Sports, Krusher Promotions and Andre Ward Promotions and is sponsored by the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Rosneft and Corona Extra. The championship event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

DANIEL “TWITCH” FRANCO NOW FACING DERRICK MURRAY ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10 IN WASHINGTON D.C. FOR IBF – USBA FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 14, 2016) – Top undefeated prospect DANIEL “TWITCH” FRANCO, (14-0-3, 9 KO’s), of Rancho Cucamonga, California will now face DERRICK MURRAY, (13-0-1, 5 KO’s) of St. Louis, Missouri for the vacant IBF-USBA featherweight title on Thursday, November 10 in Washington, D.C. in the 10-round main event of “FIGHT NIGHT” at the Washington Hilton.

Original opponent JOSE HARO suffered a training injury and had to withdraw from the title bout.

“No problem on our part, Daniel said yes immediately to the change in opponents, “said Ray Chaparro, manager of Franco who is promoted by Roc Nation Sports. “He’s here to win the title and is solely focused on that. We’ve watched a couple of tapes of Murray, he’s clearly talented and Daniel will be ready for him on November 10.”

The hard-hitting Franco returns to the ring following a convincing fifth round knockout of Marcello Gallardo on August 6 in Oakland, California on the undercard of Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand.

The knockout of Gallardo was the second in a row for the heavy handed Franco, who previously stopped German Meraz in the eighth round on March 26, also in Oakland.

The 28-year-old Murray, a former amateur standout, will be making his third start of 2016. On January 27, Murray traveled to New York City where he won a six round unanimous decision over Darryl Hayes.

Most recently Murray won an eight round unanimous decision over Jose Silveria on April 16 on St. Joseph, Missouri.

HAYE: PUT YOUR MONEY ON FLORES TO BEAT BELLEW

david-haye
David Haye has told fans to put their money on B.J. Flores to rip Tony Bellew’s WBC World Cruiserweight title from him when they meet at the Echo Arena in Liverpool tomorrow night, live on Sky Sports.

Bellew defends his crown for the first time since his stunning KO win over Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park in May, and for brash American Flores, it could be his last shot at World glory having been edged out on points for the interim WBA crown by Beibut Shumenov last July.

The Liverpool star has called for a showdown with Haye, who became the unified Cruiserweight World champion in November 2007 and added Heavyweight glory to his CV two years later.

The ‘Hayemaker’ says he’s open to talks if Bellew can beat his pal – but the London star thinks the ‘Bomber’ has underestimated the American and his reign as World champion will come to an end at the first hurdle.

“I don’t think Tony is going to win the fight,” said Haye. “B.J. is a big Cruiserweight. Look at them next to each other, there’s not a lot in it at first sight but Tony is tall and skinny whereas B.J. is wide and thick set and can punch.

“B.J. is very underrated, he hasn’t perhaps performed to the nest of his ability in his big fights but he’s been boxing since his was six, has great amateur pedigree boxing all over the world and I think Tony has underestimated him.

“Tony thinks it’s an easy touch and B.J. is a huge underdog with the bookies, I think he’s worth backing to cause the upset. Tony is a good fighter and he was good against Makabu, he was an underdog himself, he got decked in the first and spun it round and did the job so you have to give him credit for that – but is he a real Cruiserweight? I don’t know. He looked it in the Makabu fight, he’s the WBC champion and he did it in good style, but I think it’s a tough first defence and I think it’s a good fight.

“If Tony somehow manages to beat B.J – which he won’t do – we can talk. Tony makes plenty of noise so we’ll see, but he’s got his hands full with B.J.”

Fans that want to take Haye’s advice and back the challenger to take the title can get odds of 7/1 for Flores to win with show sponsors 32Red.com. The visitor is 11/1 to win inside the distance and 20/1 to take the crown on points.

Hometown star Bellew is 1/2 to repeat his epic KO win that landed him the belt at the home of his beloved Everton F.C, and 2/1 to hold onto his belt on points.

Bellew’s clash with Flores is part of a huge night of action in Liverpool Olympic gold medal star Luke Campbell MBE defends his WBC Silver Lightweight title against Derry Mathews.

Belfast star Ryan Burnett defending his British Bantamweight title against Liverpool’s Ryan Farrag, Sean Masher Dodd defends his WBC International Lightweight title against Francesco Patera, Tom Farrell faces Farid Hakimi for the WBA International Super-Lightweight title and Liverpool favourite Rocky Fielding is set for action.
