FELIX DIAZ CONTINUES HIS PURSUIT OF TERENCE CRAWFORD

New York, NY (9/14/16) – Top-rated junior welterweight Felix Diaz wants a fight against Terence Crawford, and the Olympic gold medalist wants it bad. Earlier this week, Diaz called out the undefeated two-division world champion Crawford, and it doesn’t seem as though he is planning on quieting down anytime soon.
“I said it earlier and I am going to keep saying it, Crawford is the fight I want,” said Diaz. “There was a ton of positive responses throughout the industry after I called him out the other day, and rightfully so. Stylistically, this is a can’t-miss fight. Everyone knows it, including him. I have no problem going to Omaha for it either. He is the champion. I have no issues going into his backyard and taking his belt from him. We can fight in his mother’s kitchen if that’s where he is most comfortable. My bags are packed for Omaha. I’m ready. Terence, are you?”
Diaz (18-1, 8KO’s), the only boxer to win an Olympic gold medal for the Dominican Republic, is coming off a career-changing performance back in July. He dominated highly regarded, undefeated welterweight contender Sammy Vasquez, though he is a true super lightweight. Following his victory over Vasquez, Diaz signed with promoter Lou DiBella, with the goal of fighting the biggest names in the sport, and Crawford is at the very top of his list. DiBella has a longstanding working relationship with Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank, and the two have promoted numerous events together over the years.
“I have no problem working with Bob to make this fight happen on any network. Bob and I have been making deals for a very long time and I know that we can get something done here. It is really up to Terence if he wants to accept this challenge. This is a fight that any network committed to great boxing would want to televise. The ball is in Terence’s court,” proclaimed DiBella.

Anthony “Juice” Young ready for Jersey showdown with Malik Jackson this Thursday night in Philly
Atlantic City, NJ (September 14, 2016)– Welterweight, Anthony “Juice” Young will look for his third consecutive victory when he takes on Malik Jackson in a battle of New Jersey based fighters as one of the undercard bouts this Thursday nighat the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.
Young of Atlantic City won his first ten bouts and after his current two-fight streak will enter the ring with a record of 13-2 with five knockouts.
“I had a really good camp and great sparring with (lightweight) Anthony Burgin & Victor Padilla.
In Jackson, he is facing a fighter with a very deceiving 3-9-4 record. He has had several questionable decisions not go in his favor, so Young expects a fight that will not be a gimme.
“I do not know much about him other than t\him being a scrappy fighter who is coming to win. I know he is from New Jersey, but it doesn’t matter where he is from. He could be from Switzerland for all I care.”
This will be the third bout that Young will have championship trainer Raul “Chino” Rivas, and Young already has seen the improvements with his new coach.
“I will display what I have been working on with Chino. I want to thank my team for this opportunity on this card.”
Said Rivas, “This will be our third fight together. He is getting better with every fight. I am excited to see him fight on Thursday. He has worked hard and is getting sharper. He is able to spar eight and ten rounds now.
“I know Jackson a little bit as I am originally from North Jersey. My son beat him in the amateurs He is tall and his record doesn’t justify who he is. He has been overmatched. But I have noticed that he doesn’t use his jab and he doesn”t have the heart when you press him. We have been using Juice’s angles and combinations and slowly we have been to eliminate bad habits. He is smart, a hard worker and disciplined and his best boxing is ahead of him.”
“Anthony “Juice” Young will attempt to continue building his already impressive career,”said long time manager, Rich Masini. “we are very confident in our current team. Head trainer Raul “Chino” Rivas has been doing as excellent job with Juice. I’ve seen Juice grow in every aspect , both inside and out of the ring” says Masini.
“He seems to have a great chemistry with Chino as well as Chino’s team. It’s easy with a kid like Juice, he is great to work with, we have a great team around him including his dad, Teany. We realize we have a tough opponent in front of us on September 15th but Juice is ready to go and take care of business” says Masini.
Masini adds R.I.P Pati Masini Love you sister.

“I always give the best of me for the fans. Texas is special is my second my home, the people are great the fans are great. This is a historic night for me and for boxing and I am very motivated to perform for all the fans at AT&T stadium.
“We have seen footage of Liam Smith, he is a strong fighter and his style of boxing is similar to mine. Both our styles will make a great fight for all the fans on Saturday. He is hard puncher, connects, comes forward and has good combinations. We know he is dangerous and we are not underestimating him.
“I am preparing for a fighter that comes forward, I am ready for anything. We will show the best fight we can for all the fans on Saturday night.”
JOSE “CHEPO” REYNOSO, Manager and Trainer to Canelo Alvarez:
“Styles make fights and Liam Smith’s style is one that suits Canelo. Canelo likes fighters that come forward he is that type of fighter as well. And these kinds of fights are the ones that are very exciting for the fans.
“I can’t predict what Liam will do in the ring and we can’t necessarily plan for it. We have to be ready for everything. We can have a game plan and if your opponent isn’t letting you execute and you have to adjust.
“A fighter has two hands and both hands can punch. Liam has power and we need to be prepared for that power, whether that comes from the right hand or the left hand.”
EDDY REYNOSO, Head Trainer to Canelo Alvarez:
“We have been working very hard for 12 weeks, and have been focusing on hand speed and foot work. We have really been working on cutting of the ring and defense.
“Canelo is a very talented fighter, a very complete fighter. He is strong, connects very well and has a great defense. Those skills will be on display on Saturday and show why he is the stronger fighter.
“Liam Smith is a very hungry fighter and throws great combinations. He is strong aggressive fighter and that style suits Canelo.
“I have worked with Canelo for a long time, have had the opportunity to see him grow as a person and as a fighter. He is a humble person who is very serious about the sport and the people love him. He is dedicated to his fans and trains very hard to make sure he gives them great shows.”
SADAM ALI., Former two time Welterweight Champion:
“I think it’s great to be back on a big stage. Last time it didn’t work out as planned, but I just have to work my way back up. I got caught with a good shot and I take nothing away from my opponent, he was the better man that night. It was back to the drawing board for me and now I’m back and ready to fight again.”
HECTOR TANAJARA, Welterweight Contender:
“As an amateur, I qualified for the Olympics, but became injured. However, I received about eight national titles and have traveled all of the world.
“Being signed with Golden Boy Promotions by former World Champion fighter Oscar De La Hoya, is something I’ve always dreamed of, and since I saw De La Hoya fight Vargas-he’s been an inspiration for me to follow in his footsteps and have a great professional career like he did.
“I know my opponent is aggressive, so this should be a very action-packed fight for me. I hope to fight two or three times more this year.”
JOSHUA FRANCO, Bantamweight Contender:
“It’s a great feeling to be fighting in Texas for the first time, because all of my fans will be coming out to see me. Being from Texas, when I fight out in California, not all of my friends and family can make it, so this gives them an opportunity to watch me.
“It feels amazing to be a part of such a huge event like this, I’ve always dreamed of this and someday being a part of it.
“I’ve been training hard, like always, and hopefully this fight will be an easy one. I want to thank all my fans for their continued support.”
VERGIL ORTIZ JR, Lightweight Contender:
“It’s my second fight so to fight on such a big stage is great. My opponent’s record is 1-3,all ending within the first round so I know I have to be careful but I’m confident I will get the win.”
ZACHARY OCHOA, Superlightweight Contender:
“During this training camp, I’ve been focusing more on my body shots and landing my punches to look for the right punches-not throwing just to throw-but pacing myself.
“It makes me feel great to be a part of such a big event because it pushes and motivates me to perform event better.
“I know my opponent is tough-all Mexican fighters are tough, but I’ve come in and have been preparing myself well and doing everything I need to be doing in the gym. My weight is good, and I just want to get in the ring, have fun and be impressive for all of the fans coming out.”

Future stars grace the stage Sept. 16th at Twin River
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Sept. 14th, 2016) — The top young pros in the northeast step back into the Friday night as CES Boxing celebrates America and its fighting spirit with a star-studded lineup at Twin River Casino.
“The Future Is Now,” scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16th, 2016, features six undefeated fighters, including one who competed in the Olympic Trials in Nevada in 2015, and the professional debuts of two promising up-and-comers who will square off against one another in a four-round welterweight showdown, their first time on the CES stage. The official weigh-in will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Twin River Casino’s Wicked Good Bar & Grill and will be open to the public.
Friday’s event is a celebration of the United States’ recent success in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, where American athletes took home 121 medals, the most in any Olympics not held in the United States.
Among the United States’ noteworthy achievements, boxers Nico Hernandez, Shakur Stevenson and Claressa Shields captured medals, the latter becoming the first American boxer, male or female, to earn medals in back-to-back Olympic games. The Sept. 16th event is also dedicated to the memories of those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks that occurred 15 years ago this month.
“We’re extremely excited about what the future holds for us in professional boxing, not just here in the northeast, but throughout the world,” CES president Jimmy Burchfield Sr. said.
“This sport is full of life, and there are so many remarkable young men and women on the verge of stardom. You will see some of them on display Friday night in an event that will prove to be the gateway to success for many of the young future champions in the northeast.”
Tickets for “The Future Is Now” are priced at $42.00, $76.00 and $126.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.
The aforementioned six unbeaten fighters have combined for 11 wins, all by knockout, a unique collection of talent reminiscent of the early to mid-2000s when CES built its foundation behind the strength of then unknown rising stars Peter Manfredo Jr., Chad Dawson, Joey Spina, Matt Godfrey and former Olympian Jason Estrada, all of whom competed together under headliners such as Gary Balletto and Scott Pemberton.
Featherweight Irvin Gonzalez (2-0, 2 KOs) of Worcester, Mass., faces Mike Heffelfinger (0-1) of Harrisburg, Pa.; Worcester middleweight Kendrick Ball Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs) takes on Philadelphia’s Demetrius Thomas (0-1); and junior welterweight Adrian Sosa (1-0, 1 KO) from Lawrence, Mass., faces Lamont White (0-2) of Washington, D.C., all in four-round bouts.
As an added bonus, the Sept. 16th card also features the return of Albanian middleweight Fatlum Zhuta (3-0-1, 3 KOs) of Anchorage, Ak., who headlines in his first career six-round bout against the dangerous Ray Burroughs (2-1, 2 KOs) of Houston, Tex.; plus the debuts of welterweights Marqus Bates of Taunton, Mass., and Miguel Ortiz of nearby Springfield, who face each other in a four-round bout. Worcester junior welterweight Jamaine Ortiz (2-0, 2 KOs), who competed at the Olympic Trials in December, and New London, Conn., welterweight Cristobal Marrero (1-0, 1 KO), will also compete on the undercard in separate four-round bouts.
Zhuta returns to for the first time since February when he stopped Greg McCoy in the third round of a scheduled four-round fight. The 22-year-old Burroughs fights next Friday for the fourth time in less than six months since making his debut in March.
Zhuta is one of nine fighters on the card under the age of 30; Marrero, Sosa, Gonzalez and Jamaine Ortiz are all 21 or younger, truly among the elite, young fighters in the northeast.
Ortiz is fresh off wins in May and July, the latter against Canadian Kimmy St-Pierre, who battled for three hard rounds, but did not answer the bell for the fourth, Ortiz’s second knockout in as many fights. Marrero debuted that same night, stopping Pennsylvania’s Roosevelt Archie with a body shot 65 seconds into the opening round.
Ball Jr. returns for the first time since July 22nd, when he fought to a majority draw against unbeaten Connecticut rival David Wilson on just one week’s notice following his July 15th knockout win over Dias at Twin River. Gonzalez, meanwhile, returns next Friday just 15 days after stopping Juan Muniz in the opening round of their scheduled four-round bout. Sosa is also coming off a first-round knockout on July 30th against Shavonte Dixon in the debut for both fighters.

“This show has all the makings of the best ‘Knockout Night at the D’ show of the year with three title fights on tap,” RJJ Boxing Promotions CEO/Co-Founder Keith Veltre said. “The six principal fighters have a combined record of 94-6-3 with 63 knockouts. All three of these title fights are evenly matched and can go either way. The winner of the main event should land a spot in the WBA’s top 15 ratings. His last was in his most recent fight, last April at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, in which he and 14-0 Nikolay Potapov battled evenly for 10 rounds.
Vera’s brutal sixth-round knockout of 10-1-1 Joey Ruelas, also at DLVEC, earned the left-handed Vera his NABA-USA super welterweight crown. Fighting out of Fort Worth, Vera will be facing the toughest opponent of his 3 ½ year professional career.
Zizic, a native of Montenegro is a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Youth and WBC Mediterranean middleweight champion. Ranked No. 14 by the NABA, Zizic now lives and trains in the capital of boxing, Las Vegas.

JESUS ROJAS AND MARVIN CABRERA SIGN WITH GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS
LOS ANGELES (September 14, 2016) – Two of the most exciting fighters to emerge from Puerto Rico and Mexico, featherweight standout Jesus Rojas, of Caguas, Puerto Rico and former amateur boxing star Marvin Cabrera of Mexico City, will join Golden Boy Promotions, the Los Angeles-based promoter announced today.
Jesus Rojas (23-1-2, 16 KOs), is scheduled to fight this Saturday, September 17 for the vacant WBA Fedecaribe Featherweight title against the tough Jesus “Chuito” Valdez (16-1-1, 6 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round fight at the Coliseo Hector Sola Bezarez in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The 23-year-old Cabrera, who is scheduled to make his professional debut on the October 7 edition of LA FIGHT CLUB, will compete in the super lightweight division and is trained and managed by former two-division world champion Daniel Ponce De Leon.
“Jesus Rojas and Marvin Cabrera are a pair of young men we’ve been watching, and now that they are in a place to transition, we are honored to be able to work with them and help bring them to the top of the sport,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Rojas and Cabrera have all the tools to become a world champions, and in addition, they both have a rare star quality that will excite all Puerto Rican and Mexican fans in the United States and around the world.”
“I am excited to be representing Golden Boy Promotions and I am going to give it my all to get that world title,” said Jesus Rojas. “I promised my father I wouldn’t quit and although he is no longer with us, it is a promise that I will keep. I know that there will be challenges ahead, but at this point in my career, I can only think of the excitement and great things to come. I want to take care of my family and not only that, do what I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a ten year old boy fighting in the streets of my Puerto Rican neighborhood.”
“I’ve worked with Jesus Rojas since 2014, when I saw him demolish his opponent, Juan Jose Beltran via knockout,” said Javier Bustillo, Manager of Jesus Rojas. I had heard rumors of the great talent that was before me, and from the moment I started working together, I knew we struck gold. I haven’t worked with a fighter that demonstrates the amount of talent like Rojas does. Signing with Golden Boy Promotions is a dream, not just because the opportunities that will be open because of this partnership but because Rojas is going to be exposed to a whole new fan base and a whole new world of boxers who he can ravage through. He is like a gladiator in the ring, tough, a prowler, powerful, and unafraid to step up into the plate. With 23 wins, and more than half of those being knock outs – I couldn’t think of a better fighter at 126 pounds that deserves a chance to show the world what Caguas, Puerto Rico has to offer.”
“In Mexico, Golden Boy is a big company and everyone aspires to have an opportunity like this,” said Marvin Cabrera. “My dream is to become a world champion, and I think that with Golden Boy by my side, I will be able to achieve my goal. I want to thank all my fans in Mexico for all their support throughout my amateur career and I hope to keep making them proud as a professional boxer.”
“I made my career with Golden Boy Promotions,” said Daniel Ponce De Leon, Trainer and Manager of Marvin Cabrera. “They helped me achieve my goal of becoming a world champion and also I was able to build a long and fruitful relationship with the company. I grew up with Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Gomez and Robert Diaz by my side and I am looking forward to this new stage of my career as they support me in creating the next champion of the sport, Marvin Cabrera.”
Entering the ring at the young age of 10, Caguas, Puerto Rico’s Jesus Rojas has been a brawler since elementary school. Entering boxing as a young child, he has never stopped, with 200 plus amateur fights representing Puerto Rico at home and abroad. At the age of 18, the gladiator decided to turn pro, quickly demolishing all his opponents that stormed his way. It was in a tough loss against fighter Jose Angel Beranza in which he hurt his hand, keeping him out of the ring for a short time. Since his first and only loss, Rojas has turned up the heat in the ring, proving to the boxing world that he was not to be forgotten, facing tough opponents throughout New York, California, and abroad. Rojas became a household name when he faced off veteran warrior Jorge “Travieso” Arce at the MGM’s Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scoring the No Contest decision, Rojas’ popularity grew within the boxing aficionados. Rojas proceeded to take on a slew of fighters including Juan Jose Beltran, Juan Carlos Pena, and Jorge Lara. His last performance in the ring was fighting for the vacant WBA-NABA featherweight title against Kiun Evans, which he won via first round knockout. Signing officially with Golden Boy Promotions this September, the 29-year-old, is ready to represent Golden Boy in a new era of his career, becoming one of the hottest prospects to hit the 126 pound division.
On the Mexican youth national team for two years and on the elite team for five years, Cabrera was a 16-time national champion who twice competed in the world championships. He also won a Bronze medal in the Central American Games, among several other accolades, on route to a 135-15 record. In 2012-13, Cabrera compiled a 12-5 record in the World Series of Boxing league, and while staying in the amateur ranks in order to earn a shot at an Olympic Gold medal was enticing, Cabrera decided that to best take care of himself and his family, becoming a professional was his best option. The member of a fighting family that includes his father and brother, both of whom fought professionally, and a sister, Mexico City’s Cabrera first put boxing gloves on at the age of 10, and later that year, he had his first fight. He was nervous, but he won, and from there, he was all in.

Also in attendance today, 2012 U.S. Olympian and current NABF Featherweight Champion Joseph “Jojo” Diaz, Jr. (21-0, 12 KOs), and Andrew “El Chango” Cancio (17-3-2, 13 KOs) who will face each other in a 10-round fight. Also, WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Champion, Diego De La Hoya (15-0, 9 KOs) of Mexicali, Mexico, and Bayamon, Puerto Rico’s Luis “Orlandito” Orlando Del Valle (22-2, 16 KOs) were part of the day’s festivities as they prepare to face off in a 10-round fight opening up the pay-per-view broadcast.
Below is what the fighters had to say at today’s media workout:
LIAM SMITH, WBO World Junior Middleweight World Champion:
“I know Canelo is a very accurate puncher and has a great deal of variety in the ring. This training session we did an open sparring session, and I got to work with Kell Brook to prepare. Canelo isn’t a full light middleweight like I am, and that’s to my advantage. It feels very good to be on this big stage, and it’s one that I have asked to be on.
“I am going to show everyone that I can fight at a high magnitude and hopefully I’ll gain some more fans once I beat Canelo. Looking back at his last fight, I think Canelo’s attitude was thinking that he was going to grab the knock out sooner or later, and he wasn’t willing to box. I won’t let that be the case this fight because I’ve got the ability to out box him, and put him in his place. Just because the writers and the boxing critics label me as the underdog isn’t my motivation – my family and their support is the only one I need. With this opportunity, I’m hoping for bigger and better fights to come my way.”
“Despite my gym being owned by Amir Khan, I haven’t talked to him about the fight because what he can do well, I can do well, and what Amir failed to do in the ring, I will not fail to do. I have my own skill set that I can excel in. I’m comfortable going toe to toe with Canelo, and let that be a warning to him come Saturday.”
JOE GALLAGHER, 2015 Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year and Trainer for Liam Smith:
“Training camp has been great, we have been sparring with world champion partners, specifically Kell Brook and others. It was an easy decision to say yes to Canelo – the name was already in the books before the Khan fight, and this was the fight that we wanted.
“We are full heartily confident in what we have come to show the crowd. Smith is a serious threat. Liam Smith can box from the outside, he’s a great counter puncher, can fight from the inside, has great shots from the inside, and has a great temperament. These are some of my favorite characteristics of Liam Smith. I think he might shock a lot of people in just how great he is come Saturday night.”
“KING” GABRIEL ROSADO, Former Middleweight World Title Challenger:
“I am excited to be in Dallas – what fighter can say that they have fought in the Cowboy’sStadium – and I am excited to be on the Canelo versus Smith card. Training camp has been good and I am feeling powerful knowing that I am going to put on a great show for everybody.
“I feel like Monroe disrespected me, and he will see what I think about that in the ring. I am going for the knock out once I step on the mat. This fight has the potential to leave a huge mark on my career, and once that final bell rings, there will be even more opportunities and fights waiting for me. This one is for all the Puerto Rican and Mexican fight fans who have shown me a great amount of love and respect.
WILLIE MONROE JR., Former Middleweight World Title Challenger:
“It’s going to be a fun night this September 17. I am ready to get in and brawl. It’s a privilege to be under one of the biggest HBO cards of the year. Going up against Rosado will be interesting, and I am ready to see what he brings into the ring.”
“The fans can expect an exciting night of boxing, will go out and show them the best Willie Monroe, Jr.”
JOSEPH “JOJO” DIAZ, JR., NABF Featherweight Champion:
“I am at 110 percent right now, and my confidence levels are through the roof. I feel like no one can beat me. I feel like I’m at my best, and come Saturday night, I’m going to show the fans that I’ve got what it takes to be at the very top. If fight fans want to see a fighter who has the speed, who has the power, the guy who has the ability to fight at the right angle, they need to tune in on Saturday night.
“I am fighting someone who wants to pull an upset, and I won’t let him have it. This is the fight of a lifetime for me, and hopefully come Saturday, I’ll take it all. I’m ready for this opportunity, and I am ready for this chance – I’ve been ready since I was a little kid when I used to dream about this – and I can’t wait to showcase what I’ve got. Being under a big card run under a Promotions company like Golden Boy hasn’t unfocused me – it’s just another fight. I know what it’s like to have millions watching when I fought in the Olympics and I’ve fought on an HBO Canelo card before and I know what mentality you need to have to be in the ring in those situations. Once I go into the ring, the only person I will be focused on will be Andrew Cancio.”
ANDREW “EL CHANGO” CANCIO, Featherweight Contender:
“I am ready for this fight in every sense of the word. We’ve been putting in hard work. Jojo is a very sharp in the ring, and a very slick fighter, but we have been training to prevent any surprises in the ring. If we have to go the distance, we will. I am trained to make it all ten rounds.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to be fighting on the Canelo vs. Smith undercard at AT&T Stadium. The way the fight got put together was a complete blessing. Come Saturday night, we’re going to go in there looking for a war.”
DIEGO DE LA HOYA, WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Champion:
“It’s a very important fight this Saturday, and I have to take advantage of it. This fight hasthe potential to open so many doors, and we are going to show how hard we have trained for this. This is my biggest stage, and we are going to leave it all on the mat. We know that Del Valle is a fighter with a lot of experience, but we are expecting a knock out come Saturday night. We have worked extremely hard, and we are hoping to represent the Mexican community and show off our pride in the ring.”
LUIS “ORLANDITO” ORLANDO DEL VALLE, WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Champion:
“I love the Mexican community – they are the most humble and welcoming people. I remember when I visited Mexico for the first time, and I felt at home. While the Mexico Versus Puerto Rico matches are always heated, I have a deep respect for the Mexican Public.
“I am going to leave the ring with a victory under my belt on September 17 without a doubt. Not being the favorite doesn’t affect me at all. I have had many experiences in which things have not gone the way we anticipated, however those setbacks have brought me to this stage I stand on now, and the opportunity to further my career. This is my destiny, and I’ll prove that this Saturday.”
Canelo vs. Smith, a 12-round fight for the WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship, is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Frank Warren and Canelo Promotions. Gabriel Rosado vs. Willie Monroe, Jr. is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Banner Promotions and Diego De La Hoya vs. Luis Orlando Del Valle is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Roc Nation Sports. Tevin Farmer ready for all comers

Philadelphia (September 13, 2016)–Hot junior lightweight Tevin Farmer is ready for the biggest fights between the featherweight and lightweight divisions.
Farmer of Philadelphia has won 15 fights in a row and is now ranked number-five by the WBC at 130-pounds.
In his last bout, Farmer put on a masterful performance in a virtual shutout over highly regarded Ivan Redkach on July 30 in Brooklyn, New York.
“First I want to thank Ivan Redkach for taking the fight. I really do. Because he gave me an opportunity to showcase my skills. No one else was biting. Ivan is a warrior. The fight itself was just me being me. Showing I’m one of the best fighters in the world. I took the fight at 135 because I literally can’t get a fight in my weight class. I don’t want to come off as thirsty but no one wants this work. So I had to take on a bigger and taller guy but I’m used to that. Skills are what wins fights so I was good with it.”
One fighter that Farmer is thinking about is contender Gervontae Davis. Davis has been rumored to be facing Farmer’s stablemate Jason Sosa for the WBA title.
“I would love that fight but honestly he would be a step backwards for me at this point. He’s in a good position with Floyd Mayweather and he should appreciate it. They are quietly slowing him down because they know he’s not ready. We have had our share of back and forth on social media but the ball is in his court. Sometimes the fans get fooled. A fight between us is simple to make all he has to do is tell Floyd he wants it. Floyd is the most powerful man in the sport. He could get the fight done easy. Davis came to Philly and asked to spar me. That showed me all I needed to know about Gervontae Davis. Why would we spar for free when we can get paid to fight? He doesn’t want to fight me and it’s time to move on.”
Farmer is coming home to on October 14 to fight Orlando Rizo at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Farmer is not looking past Rizo, but the 26 year-old native of Philadelphia is looking for the fighters between 126 and 135 pounds.
“Ivan Redkach is being handled by Leo Santa Cruz’s people. I’m glad they took the fight but they don’t seem to think much of me. So how about this…. They should let Leo use me as a tune up and comeback fight. He keeps saying he wants to fight Gary Russell. Well use me as a tune up to get ready for Russell. I will take the fight at 126, look how easy I am to negotiate with. Now let’s see if they bite on that. If not Leo my goal is win a world title at 130. So anyone ranked at 130 I’m willing to fight, it doesn’t matter who it is. But I am willing to go up or down for the right opportunities.”
Farmer is promoted by DiBella Entertainment.
Three Fights Announced for WSOF34: Fitch vs. Shields on November 12
LAS VEGAS (September 13, 2016) – World Series of Fighting (www.WSOF.com) officially announced today the highly-anticipated welterweight (170 pounds) title fight between reigning world champion Jon Fitch (28-7-1, 1 NC) and number one contender and fellow decorated superstar Jake Shields (31-8-1) for Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo., live on NBCSN at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.
Priced from $20, tickets for “WSOF34: Fitch vs. Shields” go on sale on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Budweiser Events Center box office, BudweiserEventsCenter.com, or by phone at 1-877-544-TIXX.
“This is a fight between two of the sport’s most seasoned and accomplished competitors, and a matchup that has been building for quite some time, so we are excited to see it finally come to fruition in the decagon cage, and to crown the better man that night, our world welterweight champion,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.
In addition to the main event, World Series of Fighting announced a featured heavyweight attraction pitting Josh “Cuddly Bear” Copeland (13-4) against former champion Smealinho “The Prince” Rama (9-2), as well as the promotional debut of battle-tested Paul Bradley (23-6), who will take on former top 10 world-ranked Yushin “Thunder” Okami (32-10) in a welterweight affair.
Additional matchups for “WSOF34: Fitch vs. Shields” will be announced soon.
Jon Fitch vs. Jake Shields
The 6-foot, 38-year-old Fitch of Las Vegas, Nev. via Fort Wayne, Ind. will put his title on the line for the second time since seizing the vacant belt on October 17, 2015, when he earned a unanimous decision over Yushin Okami.
Fitch, who has faced and defeated some of the best rival welterweight fighters of his era to cement his legacy in the sport, risked his World Series of Fighting title for the first time on April 2, defeating Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Joao Zeferino by way of unanimous decision.
Fighting out of San Francisco, Calif., the 6-foot, 37-year-old Shields will seek his fourth major world championship. The Cesar Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt held both the Shooto and EliteXC welterweight straps as well as the Strikeforce middleweight crown.
Like Fitch, Shields has provided fight fans with a host of memories, including his unforgettable, upset unanimous decision defeat of future Hall of Famer Dan Henderson on April 17, 2010. Shields also boasts a split decision win over reigning UFC champion Tyron Woodley as well as a split decision victory over UFC superstar Demian Maia.
Josh Copeland vs. Smealinho Rama
The 6-foot-1, 33-year-old Copeland is coming off what was perhaps the grittiest performance of his four-year professional career in his bid for the World Series of Fighting heavyweight title against reigning champion Blagoy Ivanov. Copeland stood toe-to-toe and held his own against the Sambo champion, but was left on the losing end of a unanimous decision after five competitive rounds of action.
Copeland, who has notched 7 of his 12 professional victories by way of (T)KO or submission, earned his place in the world title fight by taking a unanimous decision from Mike “300” Hayes at WSOF29 on March 12.
The 6-foot-1, 24-year-old Rama of Calgary, Alberta, Canada made history on October 11, 2014, becoming the first-ever World Series of Fighting heavyweight champion by scoring a devastating, 51-second TKO (punches) on Derrick “Caveman” Mehman at WSOF14.
Rama, who also holds a unanimous decision win over Steve Mocco in the World Series of Fighting decagon cage, surrendered the heavyweight title after being submitted (guillotine choke) by Ivanov in the third round (1:17) of their bout on June 5, 2015.
Paul Bradley vs. Yushin Okami
One of World Series of Fighting’s recent, high-profile acquisitions, the 5-foot-9, 33-year-old Bradley of San Diego, Calif. signed with the league after decimating previously unbeaten Chris Honeycutt by way of TKO (punches) in just 40 seconds in the Bellator MMA cage on January 29, 2016.
A former, two-time All-American wrestling star for NCAA Division I University of Iowa, Bradley placed as high as fourth in the national championships before turning to MMA in 2006 where he has since faced off with elite competition in the UFC and Strikeforce.
Similar to his opponent, the 6-foot-2, 35-year-old Okami of Kanagawa, Japan has scrapped with top-level, world ranked competition to earn his place in the decagon cage.
Since the loss to Fitch, Okami, a veteran of the UFC as well as PRIDE, has since reeled off two consecutive victories in his home country – a second round (4:23) TKO (corner stoppage) of Ryuta Sakurai in Tokyo on February 27, and a first round (2:06) submission (rear-naked choke) of Shingo Suzuki on July 24.

LINARES: MANCHESTER FANS CANNOT GET IN THE RING WITH CROLLA

Jorge Linares has told Anthony Crolla that his fans cannot help him in their unification blockbuster for the WBA, WBC Diamond and vacant Ring magazine Lightweight titles at the Manchester Arena on Saturday September 24, live on Sky Sports.
Three-weight World king Linares brings his all-action style to Manchester for the mouth-watering contest, as he looks to halt Crolla’s remarkable rise to the top of the 135lbs division.
‘Million Dollar’ has thrilled the Manchester Arena with stunning wins over Darleys Perez and Ismael Barroso in the last year, and is aiming to cement his place as the number one fighter in the division in his latest outing at the famous fighting fortress.
Linares has other ideas though, and the Venezuelan star plans to wreck Crolla’s run and use all of his experience of winning huge fights all around the world on his latest visit to England, having beaten Kevin Mitchell in an epic battle at The O2 in London in May 2015.
“I love fighting in my opponent’s back yard with all the noise that comes with it from their fans,” said Linares. “The supporters cannot get in the ring with their fighter, it’s just me and him.
“When I first started to fight all over the world it took some time to adjust but now, it’s easy and I am confident doing it.
“The fans are excited for this one. We’re both World class fighters and World champions that are willing to fight each other, as we’re proving in this one. There’s no need to trash talk or build the fight up, it’s a great fight and there’s lots of respect between us.
“The best fighter on the night is going to win, and I think that’s going to be me.”
Linares’ clash with Crolla is part of a huge night of action in Manchester as John Ryder defends his WBA International Middleweight title against Jack Arnfield.
Callum Johnson lands his first title action against Willbeforce Shihepo for the Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight title, Isaac Lowe defends his Commonwealth Featherweight title against Tshifhiwa Munyai, unbeaten Light-Heavyweight Hosea Burton will be in title action Conor Benn tastes his fifth night of action in the paid ranks with an appearance first at The O2 in London on September 10.
Tickets are on sale now priced at £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150 and available from the Manchester Arena at www.manchester-arena.com or by calling 0844 847 8000. VIPs tickets are exclusively available through www.matchroomboxing.com priced at £250.
Face value tickets for September 24 will also be available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ . StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua.
DAWS AIMS FOR THIRD TIME LUCKY WITH EUROPEAN CROWN
LONDON (13 September) Super-lightweight ace Lenny Daws will get a shot at the Vacant EBU title against Anthony Yigit after the Champion Ruben Nieto relinquished the belt.
The EBU today announced that with Spaniard Nieto vacating his title, a purse-bid has been called for Wednesday 28th September in Rome that will decide where and when the eagerly awaited contest will take place.
Unfortunately for Daws, a former two-time British Champion, he won’t be able to get justice against Nieto, who he was controversially disqualified against last December in a European title challenge.
Daws was ahead on all three judges’ scorecards going into the tenth round, despite being floored in the third round, but an accidental clash of heads opened a bad cut above Nieto’s eye and he was unable to continue. The referee Freddy Rafn ruled that it was an intentional headbutt and Daws was unjustly disqualified.
Know as “Lightning”, Daws also lost in his first challenge for the belt in October 2012 when he travelled to Italy to take on Michele Di Rocco for the Vacant title and despite a very close fight the decision went to the local favourite.
In Yigit, Daws will have to use all of his 16 years and 34 fight experience against the young and hungry challenger from Sweden who is yet to taste defeat in 18 fights.
However, the Morden star is thrilled that he will get another shot at the prized European crown and is confident he will finally land the title on his third attempt.
“It’s fantastic that I’m going straight in for a European title shot again, but I’m disappointed that it won’t be Nieto in front of me on the night as I wanted to prove fair and square that I had him beat last time,” Said Daws.
“Everyone could see I was beating him and on course to win, the judges had me ahead so why would I need to headbutt him? The referee got it completely wrong, but now it’s my golden opportunity,”
“I’ve seen Yigit, he’s still up-and-coming and hasn’t got the experience that I have and that will be a key factor in this fight. I can’t wait for it, I firmly believe that it’s going to be third time lucky for me this time and I’ll be finally crowed Champion of Europe.”

Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna media day quotes

Philadelphia, PA – Welterweight contender, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (21-1, 9 KOs) of Millville, New Jersey held a media workout on Monday at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym in advance of his USBA Welterweight title bout against Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (29-0-1, 16 KO’s) of Washington, D.C that will take place on Thursday night at the 2300 Arena and broadcast LIVE on CBS Sports Network
Thomas LaManna Quotes:
“I feel great. I am excited and I am anxious.”
“I can not let let Dusty get in a groove. That’s what I remember from sparring is that if you give him a groove, he is a little bit hard to handle, other that that you can’t give him confidence.”
“I have ten rounds to work. I always say that the last two rounds are mental . I am in great shape to go ten rounds”
“Me and Dusty both have big fan bases and I will be able to block out the crowd”
“I don’t get nervous. Especially this fight because I have been in the ring with him before. There is nothing that he can do in my eyes that I would be worried about.”
“The gameplan is to just to win. Make the proper adjustments when I need to.”
“I am more confident after this camp then I have ever been.”
“This fight means everything to me. It’s now or never as it will change my career and it will show where I am in boxing.”
