SAUNDERS: JACOBS AND QUILLIN ARE TOO SLOW FOR ME, I’D HAVE A FIELD DAY WITH THEM

WBO World Middleweight title challenger Billy Joe Saunders says he’d be too fast for either WBA champion Daniel Jacobs or Peter Quillin who clash tomorrow night live on BoxNation.

Saunders faces Andy Lee for his WBO crown on Saturday 19 December at the Manchester Arena, but will be watching his rivals closely to see the outcome.

The mega-middleweight fights are coming in thick and fast on BoxNation with Gennady Golovkin v David Lemieux and Miguel Cotto v Saul Alvarez super-fights already televised on the Channel of Champions.

However, Saunders says he’s not worried about the threat that Jacobs or Quillin would pose to him as his lightning hand and foot speed would be too much for them if they met.

“The middleweight division is hotting up nicely now, you’ve got Golovkin, Alvarez, and Cotto is still in there, and now these two lads’ are squaring up tomorrow night,” Said the Hatfield star.

“For me personally if I was fighting either of them, I know I’d be way to fast for them and would have a field day with them, they’re sluggers and too slow, I’m the better boxer and a boxer always beats a puncher,”

“I’d be darting in out and out, plenty of angles, variety of punches from both hands, head movement, I’m not saying I’d knock them out, but I’d comfortably out-punch and out-work them,”

“Jacobs is a good lad and he’s got the title, but I fancy Quillin in this one to beat him because he’s going to walk him down and get the decision,”

“I’ve got to get past Andy Lee first, he’s a good man, but I’m confident of beating him, and I’ve always said my eyes are on Cotto, who’s a hero of mine and I’d love to fight him.”

Frank Warren’s end of year title extravaganza ‘X-Mas Cracker’ is headlined by two massive world title showdowns with WBO World Middleweight Champion Andy Lee defending his title against Billy Joe Saunders and WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Smith making his first title defence against Jimmy Kelly. A staggering SIX further titles are on the line with Mitchell Smith defending his WBO Intercontinental Super-Featherweight title against George Jupp; Paul Butler challenges for the Vacant WBO European Super-Flyweight Championship against Silvio Olteanu; Tommy Langford defends his WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Championship; Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Williams and Kris Carslaw clash with the Vacant British title also on the line; Jack Catterall defends his WBO Intercontinental Super-Lightweight Championship, and Tom Stalker and Craig Evans clash again for the Vacant WBO European Lightweight Championship. The undercard features Merseyside favourite Joe Selkirk in a six-round contest, Indian superstar Vijender Singh, Anthony Yarde and top Manchester prospects Jack Flattley and Dale Coyne, plus Razza Hamza.

Uprising Promotions Signs Super Welterweight Villi Bello

Brooklyn, N.Y. (Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015) – Ronson Frank’s Uprising Promotions officially announced today that it has signed super welterweight Villi Bello (3-1, 1 KO) to a promotional contract. Additionally, Uprising Promotions has solidified his return to the ring, which will occur this Saturday night at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City when he faces Alshamar Johnson (1-1, 1 KO).

“Villi is someone we have worked with before on two of our previous shows,” said Ronson Frank, President of Uprising Promotions. “He started out as a Muay Thai fighter but has now grown into a legitimate boxer. He has been polishing up his game, and he is always working hard at his craft. He is always ready to go and in top shape. We expect him to win this fight on Saturday and continue riding that momentum into 2016.”

Bello is coming off a highlight reel knockout in his last fight, where he finished Francisco Cruz just 17 seconds after the opening bell of a July contest. That bout marked his second consecutive appearance on a show presented by Uprising Promotions. His previous outing was also a success, scoring a shutout victory over Jonathan Jeter in May. The Dominican native began his fighting career in Muay Thai and mixed martial arts prior to making the conversion to boxing, and he has been on an upward trajectory since beginning that transition. Over his four-bout boxing career, his lone loss came at the hands of undefeated prospect Chris Galeano (10-0, 1 KO).

Standing opposite Bello this Saturday night will be Alshamar Johnson, who is coming off a second frame TKO of previously unbeaten Nick Valliere. Johnson was defeated in his pro debut by Hakim Bryant, who has not suffered a loss in five professional bouts.

Next up for Uprising Promotions is a December 12th date for Belgian super welterweight Sheldon Moore (15-3-1, 10 KOs), who will meet Islam Teffahi (17-5-2, 5 KOs) for the WBC International Silver and WBC Francophone titles at the Centre sportif des Ascenseurs in Le Roeulx, Belgium.

Bryant Jennings and Luis Ortiz Quotes From Todays International Media Conference Call

Bryant Jennings
LOS ANGELES (Dec. 3, 2015) – Former world title contender Bryant “By-By” Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) and recently crowned WBA Interim Heavyweight belt holder Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) held an international media conference call today to discuss their upcoming anticipated 12-round championship title fight on Dec. 19. The event will take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino, in Verona, New York and will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Below is what the fighters and their teams had to say on today’s conference call:

BRYANT “BY-BY” JENNINGS, Former Heavyweight World Title Contender:

“This is Ortiz’s first real fight as a professional. You will see no other person in boxing that comes close to my stature.

“The training has been different but not difficult. You are building a machine. Once the person puts the wheels and gears on, they are done. Then you polish it and put it up for display. That’s where I am at in my career now. We are going to show you that this training addition has worked.

“He has a long amateur career, I have a long professional career. Your deep experience as an amateur doesn’t mean you will have a successful professional career. This guy (Ortiz) hasn’t seen a real fighter like me yet. He has steroid use. Why would he need to do that? He has to make himself believe that he knows what to do; he has to prove it on December 19. But I am going to shut him down that day, that’s my plan.

“We are going to bring a good fight. We are going to put on a show and either one of us, win, lose or draw, will show the fans what we can do. We are going to shift the focus on the heavyweight division to us.

“He’s confident but a little too confident. He doesn’t understand what he is up against. He has never faced an opponent like me. He has to humble himself because it is going to be an embarrassment. What I do is, I make sure I am well trained and prepared to knock him out, 100 percent. The fans will love my 100 percent. I am standing my ground. I will have him crying in the ring. It is going to be real difficult for him to get over this. I’m going to fight and give my all.”

LUIS “THE REAL KING KONG” ORTIZ, WBA Interim Heavyweight World Champion:

“Thank you to the Golden Boy Promotions team, HBO and everyone who has supported me and given me a chance to prove myself and what I deserve.

“The people will know who is coming for the number one spot. I didn’t come here from Cuba to sit here and do nothing. I am coming for the belt; I am coming to become the heavyweight world champion.

“Every fight is important but this is the most important fight of my career so far. I am prepared to stop Jennings. I am a boxer-puncher and will knock him out.

“Of course I have what it takes to beat competitors like Fury and Wilder. With training and determination, I believe that I will be unstoppable.

“I’m ready and able to do what I have to do. I want to bring the belts back to the United States and become the unified heavyweight world champion.

“Me and Klitschko are nothing alike; I hit much harder than him.”

GARY SHAW, CEO of Gary Shaw Productions:

“I was in the camp yesterday. Jennings and Jackson have a good relationship. They are clicking as trainer and boxer.

“Jennings doesn’t talk smack; whatever he is going to do, he will do in the ring on December 19.

“The winner of this fight will be recognized as the number one in the boxing industry.

“For this fight, we are doing drug testing. VADA will do the testing. There is no problem on either end with the testing.”

ERIC GOMEZ, Senior Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions:

“The heavyweight division in boxing is heating up and this upcoming fight on December 19 is one of the reasons why that is.

“This is going to be a great fight on December 19 at Turning Stone Resort Casino, a wonderful destination for boxing, and on HBO Boxing After Dark, the best network for boxing.”
HERMAN CAICEDO, Trainer to Luis Ortiz:

“We have been working very hard the last year and a half to prepare for this step-up fight. We are going to show the world why we call Luiz Ortiz ‘The Real King Kong.’

“His job is to fight; this is what he does for a living. Whoever is coming for him, to take his money, he is going to take them down.”

Jennings vs. Ortiz is a 12-round heavyweight bout fight for the WBA Interim Heavyweight Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Gary Shaw Productions. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the HBO Boxing After Dark telecast begins live at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Host of the event, the Oneida Nation’s Turning Stone Resort Casino continues to distinguish itself as a premier destination for blockbuster boxing matches. The December 19 fight will mark Turning Stone Resort Casino’s 16th nationally televised boxing event in less than two years, cementing the resort as a mecca for knockout televised fights. Located in Upstate New York, the four-season destination resort offers world-class entertainment and gaming, award-winning accommodations, a diverse mix of restaurants, luxury spas and several nightlife options.

In action on SHO EXTREME (7 p.m. ET/PT), former world champion Chris Algieri faces Ecuador’s Erick Bone and Staten Island’s “Sir” Marcus Browne enters the ring against Francisco Sierra.

Further undercard action features popular Brooklyn contender Heather “The Heat” Hardy, former world champion Yuri Foreman and light heavyweight contender Will Rosinsky in separate bouts.

Tickets for the live event start at $50, not including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. The event is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and sponsored by Corona. The Algieri vs. Bone and Rosinksy vs. Smith Jr. fights are promoted in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday:

DANIEL JACOBS

“A lot of people have said this won’t go 12 rounds. But you never know how a fight will go. Sometimes a war is expected and a boxing match breaks out. You never know how a fight will go. We’re prepared for the best Peter Quillin, whether he’s coming forward, backwards or side-to-side we do what we have to do to get the victory.

“I’m in a comfort zone at Barclays Center with my friends, family and fans cheering me on. But I also like that he has his people cheering too. That’s extra motivation. Technically there are people in my backyard rooting for me to lose.

“Peter Quillin said he didn’t want to fight me, years ago. Because of our personal relationship he said he didn’t want to fight me. I respected his opinion but I didn’t agree. This was back when he was a champion.

“I feel like I have the skill to be the best out there. When I get this victory I want to keep fighting bigger and better opposition.

“I just need to keep fighting at the elite level for 12-rounds in matchups like this. I’m a fan of the sport and I want to be in there with all the top guys. That’s why I called out Peter Quillin.

“I’m expecting the best Peter Quillin. When you expect the best and it doesn’t turn out that way, I can rely on that preparation.

“We’ve both gone through intense training in order to make weight and be the best that we can be on fight night.

On his son Nathaniel’s birthday today “My son is one of the biggest boxing fans in the world. He understands the situation at hand. He says he doesn’t want me to come home, he just wants me to focus on the fight and celebrate after. For him to donate his birthday to me is the most incredible thing ever.”

PETER QUILLIN

“Everybody wants to be a part of something that’s bigger than themselves. Everyone on this dais gives me a reason to fight even hard.

“Daniel Jacobs. I want to thank you. You’re the champ and you called out the undefeated challengers. I come from nothing, so I’m thankful to have this light and this opportunity.

“My dad came here without shoes or a shirt, just a pair of pants. Now his son is fighting for a world title on this stage.

“Everyone on this stage fights with their own story. I just want everyone to give respect. We all fight for different reasons and we just want to have people support us for positive reasons.

“I’m glad I’ve made the decisions that I’ve made in life that have taught me to be a better man and a better person. Regardless of what the media says about me, I’m thankful for it, because it motivates me.

“I fight for the people that need strength. For everyone who comes here fighting for opportunities.

“This camp was different because of the heat. I was training like I was in Cuba. I’m in a great position to be successful right now.

“I see a determined man in Daniel Jacobs. He’s battled with something I could never tell you about, so I give him that respect. I know what he’s coming to do Saturday night and I have to do it to him first.

“My team is outstanding. We’ve been putting things together. We have a factory, which is the gym and all the workers assemble the product. I’m the product. Come Saturday night we’re going to put the product to use.

“I’m fit. I’m ready to go. The training has been A-1, steak sauce. The steak is nothing with out the A-1. I’m blessed and motivated. I’m so fired to get in there.

“Danny and I very cordial, but when I step into that ring I want to bring harm to him and he wants to do the same to me. So I don’t know if you can consider us friends if we want to do that to each other.

“I can talk about my game plan but I just want to fight. I’m smart. I can only win one round and one minute at a time. I’m learning everything about Danny right in that moment. Every second counts.”

JESUS CUELLAR

“This will be a great victory for Argentina. I know Oquendo is a great fighter, but I will be victorious on Saturday night.

“I want to make a statement on Saturday. Everyone in the division should watch out for me, because I am coming for the top spot. I’m too motivated, too strong and too talented to be stopped.

“I fight for my country, for my team and for my family. This is a great stage for me to showcase my talent against a talented fighter. I know he will be prepared but I will not be denied.

“We both have very aggressive styles so this will be an action-packed fight. There will be a lot of punches thrown and eventually, I will knock him out.”

JONATHAN OQUENDO

“I’m thankful to everyone for this opportunity, especially Jesus Cuellar for putting his belt on the line.

“I know how important this fight is for me. I know Cuellar has a very aggressive style and this fight is going to be a war. There will be blood in the ring.

“I’m ready for a war. I know he is a tough, strong fighter, but we’ve been in there before with guys like him. We’re ready for a 12 round war.

“We’re confident because we’ve put in the work to get us here. Cuellar and I have the same style, the type of style that makes for a tough, exciting fight.

“This is my chance for a world title and I’m going to leave everything in the ring.”

CHRIS ALGIERI

“Barclays Center has become a second home for me. I’ve had some great performances there and I’m looking to have another sensational one on Saturday night.

“Make sure you get tickets to this. It’s an honor to be on a card like this with so many great fights and matchups. Being able to perform in Brooklyn with these other great fighters is truly special.

“Don’t miss my fight, because it’s going to be a sensational victory.”

ERICK BONE

“Boxing is about big surprises. Everybody knows in this sport, that everyone has one opportunity. This is my opportunity on Saturday night.

“I’m healthy, ready and excited to be fighting on Saturday. I’ve been in Brooklyn training for a long time now and it’s just a matter of waiting until it is my time to make my mark.”

MARCUS BROWNE

“I’m so thankful to have this opportunity to showcase my talent. I’m here to do what I have to do to get this victory. I’m ready to show out.

“This is a great card. I know both of these guys personally so I don’t really care who wins. May the best man win. The love is still the same, it’s tugging at me.

“Make sure you come out early because these fighters are putting it all on the line and it’s going to be a great night.”

HEATHER HARDY

“I’d like to thank Lou DiBella and Barclays Center for being so supportive of female boxing. It’s not very common so it really means a lot to have this spot to showcase my talent.

“I’m competing in a rematch with Noemis Bosques after we did eight rounds of toe-to-toe action back in May. It was really a war and I expect it to be a great battle.

“She wants to come back and get beat again, so make sure you get there early on Saturday to catch all of it.”

YURI FOREMAN

“It’s very exciting to compete amongst great fighters. Coming back is a great feeling for me, especially to be coming back as a Rabbi. For my observant friends, the fight starts early so for those who live a little distance from Barclays Center, you should start walking early and then take a train. I will be fighting after sundown, so it will all be kosher.

“I want to wish everyone good luck and much blessings. We’re all going to showcase our talent and skills. It’s going to be an exciting night of fighting.”

WILL ROSINSKY

“This is going to be a really good fight. Joe and I go back a long ways with sparring and we know each other very well.

“We’re not going to be feeling each other out. I’m expecting fireworks from the beginning and for all 10-rounds. Start to finish.

“He’s claiming to have one punch knockout power and I’m going to prove him wrong. I’m going to show him early that he’s in way over his head. It’s going to be a good win for me Saturday and I’m looking forward to it.”

LOU DIBELLA, President of DiBella Entertainment

“This Saturday night we have a tremendous show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It’s “The Battle For Brooklyn” and a battle between two of the great middleweights in the world. The championship is on the line and bragging rights are at stake.

“It’s going to be an entire night of unbelievable boxing from the time that the doors open. I want to urge people to get tickets and get there for the whole night of fights.

“The undercard is really, truly unbelievable. Competitive fights and recognizable names are going to be in the ring all night. It’s the kind of undercard that boxing fans have been asking for, for a long time. We’re delivering great fights from the moment you walk in.

“People have asked me who I like in Jacobs vs. Quillin and I say I like both of them, because that’s the truth. Frankly, both can win and they bring some different things to the table. Daniel is a little bit faster but Peter is a hard-punching middleweight who knocks guys out. It’s a scary fight for both guys but I think they’re both supremely confident.

“This is one of those fights if you’re a fan, you really have to see. Make sure you see it live. Get your tickets for an unbelievable night of boxing.

“This is the kind of fight that boxing needs. A champion versus a former champion, who never lost his title in the ring. Just as a fan, I’m really excited to watch this fight.”

BRETT YORMARK, CEO of Barclays Center

“Saturday night will be one of the biggest boxing events we’ve ever had at Barclays Center. It’s a huge week in Brooklyn and big night for boxing on Saturday.

“I consider both good friends who I would help whenever they needed. It’s going to be a special night for me, Barclays Center and most importantly, for Brooklyn.

“When you think about venues in this country, Barclays Center is at the top of the list when you’re talking about boxing and we’ve only been doing it for three years.

“Beyond the main event, there are some great stories to be told on Saturday night. When you think of Heather Hardy, Chris Algieri, Will Rosinsky, Yuri Foreman and of course Marcus Browne, who is fighting at Barclays Center for the tenth time and has certainly made it his home.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Executive Vice President & General Manager, SHOWTIME SPORTS

“This will be SHOWTIME’s seventh event at Barclays Center, which is roughly half of the boxing at Barclays Center, and that is no accident. On top of being a first class venue, all of you know by now that Brett Yormark has made himself a fixture in boxing. I can’t think of a better venue for an event like this.

“It’s an interesting week for New York sports. It’s rivalry week with last night being Islanders versus Rangers at Barclays Center, Friday night is the Nets against the Knicks and Sunday is Jets versus Giants. Right in the middle of it, is the ‘Battle For Brooklyn.’ It’s another local rivalry and I think it’s going to be the most exciting matchup of any of these events.

“You all know Daniel Jacobs, the champion and Peter Quillin, the former champion. In his last seven fights, Quillin has recorded 15 knockdowns. When you have those kind of numbers, and I don’t do this often, but I guarantee we’re going to have exciting fight after exciting fight.”

FLANAGAN TARGETS UNIFICATION FIGHTS

Terry Flanagan (640x360)
WBO World Lightweight Champion Terry Flanagan wants to destroy challenger Derry Mathews and then start unifying world titles in the division.

The undefeated Manchester star makes the second defence of his title against his Liverpool arch-rival on Saturday 13th February, 2016, at the Echo Arena.

Flanagan, England’s first ever world lightweight champion, blew away mandatory challenger Diego Magadaleno inside two rounds in October and wants to do the same demolition job on Mathews.

’Turbo’ is heralded as the best 135lb fighter in the world and is on a mission to make 2016 the year that he unifies world titles.

WBC king Jorge Linares has called him out for a showdown and promoter Frank Warren has also offered WBA title holder Anthony Crolla £500,000 to face the winner out of Flanagan and Mathews.

Flanagan is excited by what lies ahead and knows he must defeat ‘Dirty’ Derry to open up his unifications opportunities.

“Mathews is standing in the way of me unifying titles and he’s going to have to be smashed out of the way on February 13,” Said Flanagan.

“I’m in boxing to prove that I’m the best and I’ll fight the best, Mathews is slowing me down, I’ll beat him in Liverpool and then move on to the big unifiers in 2016,”

“He’s not getting overlooked as he says, I’m taking him deadly serious and training for him as I would for any opponent and giving them my full attention,”

“I can’t afford any slip ups against Mathews because that would be right embarrassing losing my title to him in Liverpool so I’m doing everything I can to make sure I remain champion at the end of the night,”

“Linares is calling me out and then there’s Crolla who Frank Warren has offered half a million pounds to fight the winner out of me and Mathews, which will be me and that would be a cracking derby,”

“It’s hard not to be distracted but it’s all just talk at the end of the day, the cold reality is if I lose then it’s all off the table so right now I’m just concentrating on what I’ve got to do and that’s to smash up Mathews.”

SAUNDERS BLASTS EUBANK’S ‘I’M A CELEBRITY…GET ME OUT OF HERE!’ STINT AND SAYS HE WOULD KNOCKOUT HIS SON IF THEY MEET AGAIN

LONDON (3 Dec) – World title contender Billy Joe Saunders has taken a pop at former boxer and ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ contestant Chris Eubank.

The undefeated London fighter, who faces middleweight world champion Andy Lee on December 19th at the Manchester Arena, took a swipe at the father of his arch-rival Chris Eubank Jr, labelling him “annoying” and “pathetic” during his stint on the ITV show.

Eubank was evicted from the jungle earlier this week and Saunders says he knows where his son picked up his unlikeable qualities.

“I’ve not seen much of the shows because I’ve been training in Spain for my fight later this month but from what I have seen and been told his dad is just as annoying and pathetic as his son,” said Saunders.

“He was all talk when he was in the jungle but didn’t do much to help the other contestants out so I can see where his son picked up that trait of just talking a good game.

“It’s clear the public didn’t take to him that’s why they voted him out. You can only talk so much before you have to get your hands dirty and back up your words. He couldn’t do it in the jungle and his son can’t do it in the ring,” Saunders said.

Both Saunders and Eubank Jr locked horns a year ago with the Hatfield man coming out on top via a split decision.

If they were to meet again 26-year-old Saunders is convinced he would get the job done in even more emphatic fashion.

“I’ve already taken care of Eubank Jr but would happily hand him another beating once I get past Andy Lee,” said Saunders.

“In fact, if we were to fight again I’m certain that I will knock him out this time round. I’ve been in there with him once before so I have a very good idea now of how he operates.

“That gives me the confidence of knowing that I can stop him next time. It will be a much easier fight for me but I want to go after the world’s best so he’s not really on my radar,” he said.

The former British and European champion also called on Eubank Sr to admit that his time in the ring has passed and to stop calling out old foes in the shape of Nigel Benn, who he shared the ring with twice during his career.

“They had a couple of really good fights back in the 90s but Eubank needs to stop living in the past.

“Boxing is a young man’s sport and I don’t think he was serious when calling out Nigel Benn. It’s in the past now.

“Eubank had the chance to fight Benn again for the third time years ago but I don’t really think he fancied it. It’s easy to talk but when the time comes to sign the contract or get in the ring that’s when things go quite,” said Saunders.

Tickets for Andy Lee vs Billy Joe Saunders at the Manchester Arena on December 19th starting from just £40 are available from frankwarren.com , ticketmaster.co.uk or eventim.co.uk. According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, the November 21 fight that saw Canelo Alvarez win the Middleweight championship generated 900,000 Pay Per View buys.

“At 900,000 buys and $58 million in PPV revenue, Cotto-Canelo performed superbly,” said HBO senior vice president Mark Taffet, who oversees the network’s pay-per-view franchise. “Not since [Lennox] Lewis-[Mike] Tyson in 2002 has a pay-per-view fight generated at least 900,000 buys without featuring [Floyd] Mayweather, [Manny] Pacquiao or [Oscar] De La Hoya.

“It puts an exclamation point on the biggest year in pay-per-view history. I couldn’t be more thrilled for boxing, Golden Boy, Roc Nation and the fans.”

“It was an incredibly strong performance in a historical context,” Taffet said. “It’s very significant for a fight to do 900,000 when it doesn’t involve one of the biggest stars in the history of pay-per-view: Mayweather, De La Hoya, Pacquiao, Tyson and [Evander] Holyfield.”

“Canelo is now officially the biggest star in all of boxing. Period,” De La Hoya said. “And by committing to fight on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day — boxing’s two biggest annual dates — Canelo’s popularity will only continue to soar for years to come.”

“I was fortunate to do [the first pay-per-view] Evander Holyfield-George Foreman and then have a few pretty good fights in between,” Taffet said with a laugh. “So to end with Cotto-Canelo, it couldn’t have been a more satisfying finale for me.”

MATHEWS: I’LL WIN THE WORLD TITLE ON MY 50th FIGHT

Derry Mathews is promising to win the WBO World Lightweight Championship on his 50th professional fight.

The Liverpool hero met face to face with Manchester rival Flanagan today ahead of their massive fight on Saturday 13th February, 2016, at the Liverpool Echo Arena, exclusively live on BoxNation.

‘Dirty’ Derry vacated his Interim WBA World title to get his shot at Flanagan’s WBO crown and is confident he will emerge victor in his backyard in the explosive north-west battle.

He’ll also vacate his spot on undercard of the December 19th mega-show in Manchester where he was competing in an eight-round contest to concentrate on Flanagan.

“50 is the magic number for me and I know I’ll be lifting the title above my head on the night,” Said Mathews.

“It’s going to be a special night for me in Liverpool and I’m expecting a great fight from Flanagan, but nothing is going to stop me winning that world title,”

“I started my professional career with Frank Warren and now I’m going to win the world title in my 50th fight with Frank by beating Flanagan,”

The 32-year-old lost to Flanagan in 2012 in a Prize Fighter tournament and Mathews believes Flanagan will be taking him for granted.

He added, “I went into Prize Fighter with two bad cuts and that was only over three rounds,”

“Flanagan willl be confident in that he’s got a win over me, but that doesn’t mean a thing,”

“If he’s going by that last fight he’s very badly mistaken and I’ll give him such a surprise on the night, the next thing he’ll know he’ll be the ex-champion and that belt will be staying in Liverpool,”

“I feel that Flanagan and his team are overlooking me and that’s going to be at his cost as he’ll find out painfully.”

Koelling and Gevor sign contract extensions with Team Sauerland

Rising German stars Enrico Koelling (19-1, 6 KOs) and Noel Gevor (19-0, 10 KOs) have signed contract extensions with Team Sauerland, which will keep them tied to the powerhouse promoter for another two years.

‘’We’re delighted that Enrico and Noel have signed contract extensions,’’ said promoter Kalle Sauerland. ‘’They are two of the brightest boxing talents Germany has to offer and an important part of our future plans.

‘’Enrico is an exemplary athlete and a real role model to aspiring boxers – he has overcome adversity and shown that despite suffering from diabetes he is able to compete at the highest level, while Noel is undoubtedly Germany’s best cruiserweight talent, and next year, I can see him challenging for big titles.’’

Fans will not have to wait long to see the promising fighters back in action. Koelling faces Serhiy Demchenko this Saturday at the Inselparkhalle in Hambur and Gevor returns to the ring on January 9 in Offenburg.

Tyson Fury implores the nation to get behind Lenny Daws ahead of European title shot

LONDON (3 DECEMBER) Days after capturing the world heavyweight championship in front of 55,000 fans in Dusseldorf, Germany, Tyson Fury has leant his support to promotional stable-mate Lenny Daws ahead of the Carshalton man’s European title fight with Ruben Nieto this Saturday night (December 5), live on Channel 5.

Daws, like Fury, has been with promoter Mick Hennessy since day one of his professional career – all the way back in April 2003 – and now, having won two British titles, is on the cusp of grabbing the elusive European crown. And Fury couldn’t be happier to see the 36-year-old get his moment in the spotlight.

“Lenny is an all-action, no-nonsense fighter who always makes for good television,” said Fury. “He’s not a prima donna, he’s a good, old-fashioned, hard-working pro. He never takes a step back, he’s always in entertaining scraps, and he’s a proper fighting man.

“Also, it’s good to see Lenny’s loyalty to Mick over the years. While some have jumped ship and been completely disloyal during tough times, Lenny has focused on his boxing, improved his record, and now he’s on the verge of winning the European title and breaking into the top ten. It’s at this level when the fighters really need the support of the nation.

“I’m hoping Lenny will look at the recent run of results we’ve had – Nick Blackwell retaining his British title, Lee Haskins becoming IBF world champion, and me beating Klitschko in Germany – and continue that good form. I know he’s more than capable of becoming European champion on Saturday night.”

?*** Destiny: Daws vs. Nieto takes place on Saturday, December 5 at Carshalton’s Westcroft Leisure Centre and will be televised live and exclusively in the UK on Channel 5 from 10.30pm ***

*** A limited amount of tickets for Destiny: Daws vs. Nieto are priced at £100 and £40 and can be purchased from the Ticketline on 0844 888 4402 ***

Darkhorse Daws looks to grab the spotlight and start Christmas early on December 5

LONDON (3 DECEMBER) It has been a long, hard road for ‘Lightning’ Lenny Daws, and he’s often worked in the shadows of others, but this Saturday night (December 5) he gets the stage all to himself when locking horns with Spain’s Ruben Nieto for the European super-lightweight title, live on Channel 5 (10.30pm).

The 36-year-old, a pro since April 2003, has won a variety of domestic honours, including two British titles, and is now on the hunt for the one belt that has so far eluded him.

“It would be nice to steal a bit of the limelight on December 5,” said Daws, 30-3-2 (11 KOs). “I’ve had a few years of being on the undercard now, and going about my work quietly, so it will be nice to be in the main event and involved in an important, meaningful fight. I’m keen to put on a show and make the most of this opportunity. I want to show my class.

“This has got to be the highlight for me. It was nice winning the other titles along the way, but this is proper stuff, isn’t it? This is the next level. This puts you on to the world scene. It’s a big achievement to claim a belt as prestigious as the European title. I believe I can do it. I just can’t wait to lift the belt now.”

Not only does Daws have the chance to become European champion, he can also do it in front of his adoring home fans. The fight takes place at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton, a stone’s throw from his front door, and Daws couldn’t ask for a better Christmas present this year.

“Because it’s so close to home, there will be plenty of celebrations afterwards,” he said. “It’s different to your normal fight up north. Those fights can be lonely. You travel up on your own and come back on your own.

“But this is different. When I win the European title on December 5, everyone I know and love will be in the venue with me. We’ll be within walking distance of our homes. The fight will be finished before midnight and we can all go and celebrate.

“This is going to be like Christmas has come early for me. I’ve been on it all year, training hard. I knew it was going to come, so I’ve stayed in the gym and stayed dedicated. I feel I’m in the best shape of my life because of it.”

Daws continued: “It’s the time to be with the family over Christmas and I’ve got three small children. They haven’t seen much of me because I’ve been training so hard, so it will be nice to spend Christmas with them and my European title and really do it properly this year.”

*** Destiny: Daws vs. Nieto takes place on Saturday, December 5 at Carshalton’s Westcroft Leisure Centre and will be televised live and exclusively in the UK on Channel 5 from 10.30pm ***

DANIEL JACOBS VS. PETER QUILLIN BROOKLYN MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

Danny Jacobs
BROOKLYN (December 2, 2015) – Before they enter the ring at Barclays Center, fighters competing on Saturday’s card headlined by the middleweight title showdown live on SHOWTIME® between Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin held a media workout Wednesday at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn.

In attendance at the workout were both main event fighters, co-main event participants Jesus Cuellar and Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo along with Chris Algieri, Erick Bone and “Sir” Marcus Browne, who will have their fights aired on SHO EXTREME (7 p.m. ET/PT).

Competing in separate undercard fights and also in attendance at Gleason’s Wednesday were Heather “The Heat” Hardy, Yuri Foreman, Will Rosinsky and Joe Smith Jr.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday:

DANIEL JACOBS

“Not only are we fighting for the bragging rights in Brooklyn, but we both want to be at the top of the middleweight division. All the top middleweights are fighting each other and we’re right in that realm.

“I believe my speed is my greatest advantage. My skill, my ring generalship … I could go on and on. Ultimately it’s about going in there and proving it.

“I think taking a loss before benefits me. I know exactly how to prepare and how to prepare to make sure I never have that feeling again.

“He’s gonna have to hit me to test my chin. This sport is about hitting and not getting hit. Anybody can be knocked down, but you have to land shots. Every time I’ve gotten knocked down, I’ve gotten up.

“My prediction is that I’m going to have my hand raised in victory. Whether it’s by knockout or decision, we’ll have to see.

“This camp has been different because I’ve had a pre-camp. We had three weeks of just strength and conditioning. I got in shape to get ready for camp. When it’s all done, it’s going to be a 10-week camp.

“Mentally I feel like I’m strong and I like where I’m at physically. My weight is good and I feel healthy. We’re going to give the best of everything.

“A lot of people are excited about the fights. I’m just excited it is finally here and I’m hoping to come out with a victory in impressive fashion.

“This is a boxer vs. a boxer-puncher. If I get a guy hurt. I can get a guy out of there as well. My punching power is there. I have more knockouts than Quillin and I’m going to be at my best on Saturday.

“I’m thankful for all my fans. I want everyone to know that I’m coming to represent Brooklyn and this show will not disappoint on Saturday night.”

PETER QUILLIN

“Distractions are in your head, but they can be a bit more here in New York. It’s nice to get away to Miami and be able to concentrate on training and have everything right there.

“The buzz around Brooklyn is I am the new champ. I came to New York with a small city mindset but big city dreams and now they are all coming true.

On chatting with Floyd Mayweather Tuesday night at Barclays Center: “It’s funny because I was speaking to a school today, but when I first met Floyd Mayweather, it was at my school and I was like ‘man I could be like that too one day’ and I told him about it. He didn’t understand why I said that, ‘it all started because of you’ and he said ‘what do you mean’ and I told him what happened. We laughed about it and that’s all I needed right there. I didn’t need him to do anything for me just to know that it all started back with him coming to my school and speaking to kids like me and look where I am now. I was only 14-years-old.

“You can expect fireworks in the month of December. We’re going to be throwing everything we can possibly throw.

“Being in Miami with all the Cuban history there was great. Boxing was like a fighter lifestyle. I was around many people who were inspirational beyond words.

“When I went to the (Erislandy) Lara fight we were looking for parking and I went up to a guy and I asked if we could park there. He goes ‘tu eres chocolate?’ (you are chocolate) and I said yes, and he said ‘do you know how much Cuban people love you?’ I had never realized that before and it made me more inspired, to speak more Spanish, to understand my people. Cuban people are my people, I never would deny that and I am very blessed. I am also a black American as well so I want to set a good example, especially where the time in the world is in right now for black people. I want to be an inspiration for both.

“We’ve got a plan A, plan B, plan C, plan D, plan E, plan F. We are going to go to beyond, but most importantly I am very happy. I am spiritually happy and thankful. You fall out of fear and fall into faith and you can never deny yourself, so that’s where I am right now.

“By being Cuban automatically you fight from a different point of perspective of the globe when it comes to fighting. For me, I’m thankful and more inspired to work even harder because I do have fans that I would never expect would be my fans.

“I haven’t seen ‘Creed’ yet; I am only focused on this fight. I want to create my own ‘Creed’ moments in this fight.

“Altogether I think it’s probably about an equally matched fight. You have two determined guys fighting for their own personal reasons; he’s fighting with a cancer story, I’m also fighting with that. My uncle passed away of cancer so I fight with a piece of him as well.

“I’m just Peter Quillin. All I know is just go in that ring, train against whoever it is, no matter who it is and do my best.

“My mom always said, ‘sometimes it takes getting put on your ass to know where you’re at’ so it could be helpful to him that he’s tasted defeat. He’s been there before, you fight with the reason that you don’t ever want to be there again or he could’ve even gotten better after that sitting on his butt, now he wants to fight harder.

“My prediction for Saturday? A new champion of the world.

“I’ve never been in this kind of moment before where I had to fight one of my friends. You never want to hurt your friend, but in this fight, I want to hurt Danny so what does that tell you about our friendship right there? Sometimes you don’t want to be friends with the guy that beat you up.
“It’s going to be sort of like July 4th but on Dec. 5th. You are going to expect fireworks, two determined guys throwing punches trying to win for two different reasons and you’re going to get an entertaining fight.

“I just have to let my hands go and not have a worry in the world because when you’re in there, you’re in there and there’s no way you can leave unless you leave in a stretcher, hand up or with a draw like we did in that fight.”

JESUS CUELLAR

“I’m coming here very prepared. I know Oquendo is a tough fighter and we are not taking him lightly. We’re ready for a 12-round championship fight.

“We know there will be a lot of Puerto Ricans supporting him, but they won’t change anything. They can’t get in the ring.

“You’re going to see a great fight on Saturday and you’re going to see Jesus Cuellar walk out of the ring a world champion.

“I want to fight the best in the division. There are many good fighters and I want all of them. I have no fear and I am extremely confident in my abilities.”

JONATHAN OQUENDO

“I come ready to fight. I didn’t want to take off a lot of time after I beat Jhonny Gonzalez. The opportunity for a world title shot came and I had to take it.

“I know he is a very strong fighter, but we are coming to win. I’m happy to be here in New York with the Puerto Rican fan base behind me. I never thought I’d be fighting for a world title here in New York on the biggest stage.

“It’s going to be a war. I like to stay there in the pocket. It’s going to be blood in the ring and you can expect that on Saturday.

“I had a great training camp up in Palm Beach, Florida for the first time leaving Puerto Rico, my hometown for training but on Saturday you’ll see a great Jonathan Oquendo and I’ll come out victorious.

“I have been training since after the fight with Jhonny Gonzalez. I went to Mexico to visit the virgin of Guadalupe and that Monday I was training and for me it was excellent.

“My last victory gave me a lot more energy, a lot more hunger and I know on Saturday we’ll come through victorious.

“Cuellar is a very strong boxer who exerts lots of pressure and we’re ready for that. We know of his record and the great success that he’s had. He’s the current champion and will be until the 5th.

“I’ve always wanted to fight here in New York and I never thought that it would be for a world title.

“It doesn’t matter which way, whether it’s a KO or decision, on Saturday I’m going to win.”

CHRIS ALGIERI

“I feel a lot more comfortable now with (trainer) John David Jackson and having a second camp. We got more weeks with him and haven’t really stopped training. Now I think we can settle in a little more, make some adjustments that were not able to make prior but now I feel a lot more comfortable.

“Being a favorite or not doesn’t change how I prepare for a fight but absolutely, this is the fight of his life. I’ve been here before fighting bigger names than myself but that’s just kind of the life cycle of boxing.

“Barclays Center is my favorite place to fight. I’ve had my best performances here and the fan support has always been fantastic. So I am looking forward to putting on another great show.

“Barclays Center is a premiere venue and it’s great and easy for my Long Island friends to come out and get right in there.

“I’ve learned and gotten more comfortable in the ring now but this is going to be a tough fight to fight. Everybody at this level is good so I’ve got to go out there and perform.

“I feel fantastic, I feel stronger, everybody says I look better. My power has definitely increased now that I am in a higher class and I am making weight very easy.”

ERICK BONE

“Camp has been strong, it’s been great, it has been one of the best camps that I’ve had so far.

“I feel good because Algieri has a big name. It’s going to be a challenge but in boxing once you get in the ring it doesn’t matter who comes in first or who comes in last in these fights. There’s no A and B, they’re so close.

“It has been very positive being here in Brooklyn to do my camp and training here. Being able to spar with the many great boxers who are here, it’s all a positive experience.

“For the fans that will see me on Saturday, I believe that I am a great boxer and they will see a great fight. They should keep an eye out for me because they will remember my name.

“We’re going to box and I trained to win and we are prepared for just that.”

MARCUS BROWNE

“You can expect fireworks, speed, good boxing ability, but, most importantly, a W. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life and I’m ready to put on a good show

“Staten Island will come out to support, but I’m a New York fighter through and through. The whole city will be there supporting me.

“He’s tall, throws a lot of punches. We’re going to be ready for whatever he brings. He can get right-hand happy and we’ll be ready to counter that.

“Everyone who fights me, they’re all coming for my 0.

“In boxing at the end of the day, when you’re a young undefeated fighter, everybody wants to take that ‘0’ so that’s what makes guys hungry but for me personally I’m not worried about that. I’m just worried about what I’m going to do and what we’ve been working on in the gym to apply that on fight night come Saturday.”

HEATHER HARDY

“I had no break during Thanksgiving, we went straight through; matter of fact my mom is having our whole family over on Sunday for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s going to be a celebration and I’m going to eat my mashed potatoes like a good Irish girl is supposed to.”

“One thing I can say about my opponent is that she fights like a champion fights. There’s a different caliber of fighter that you go in there with and she’s not a quitter, she doesn’t give up. I couldn’t intimidate her, I couldn’t push her around and that’s something I’ve prepared for. She knows what I have and she’s not afraid to stand toe to toe with me so it’s going to be a battle.

“Her talent does motivate me. It brings something out of me and it puts on a better show for the fans and it gives a better show for female boxing. Holly Holm did not prove that Ronda Rousey couldn’t fight, it proved that more than one woman could fight at the same time. So, when two women can go in there and really go at it and give the people a show, it’s not just one girl doing a great job, it’s two women.

“I’m looking to prove that I am the champion, that I am the “First Lady” of Barclays Center.

“I’ve kept on this winning streak and I think I’m ready for the more elite fighters. I consider myself to really be a contender at this point so I’m looking forward to this. I’d like to start matching up for the world titles and all the girls who’ve got them.

“My trainer always says that there are only four punches in boxing, you better learn how to do them perfect every time you throw them and they’re getting there. So, I feel good, experienced, just being around certain things, not being surprised by anything because I’ve seen it before. All of those things play in to it.

“It’s surreal to be in this position. I still can’t believe sometimes people say ‘hey champ’ and I say ‘what? yea that is me.’ Just to be associated with this and how people think of me, to see me, to be mentioned on this card is an honor.”

YURI FOREMAN

“I don’t do predictions but I can predict that I am going to win.

“I feel good, with this comeback I am feeling these little butterflies here and there. I am happy that it is right here. The training is all done.

“The preparation has been great, I love the routine, I like to challenge myself and push myself to the limit extra hard but it’s a new feeling. I’m also trying to maintain my cool and not get into my head.

“There is extra motivation because there are so many great fighters on this card and everyone wants to showcase their talent, including me.

“My goal is to go up the ladder, be successful and challenge the world champion, whoever it may be at the time.”

WILL ROSINSKY

“I know him because we sparred a lot. I know the adjustments I had to make we’re ready for because we were in front of each other but sometimes you just keep the same game plan.”

“On a week to week basis, I train in the day and work night or work in the day and train at night, depends. On a night tour I train in the morning then work the night tour, get off and go back to training. So, I might not be home for about a day and half. My commitment is 100 percent, it’s no problems at all.

“My goal is to fight for a world title. It’s a common goal in boxing. I want to make money and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

“This is an easy week, my weight is good. Being at 174 is not too heavy for me so I’m not really sucking to make weight last minute. I weighed out in the gym at 173½ yesterday so I am rehydrating up to 175/176 pretty easily.

“There are actually some similarities between fighting and being a firefighter because it’s a controlled chaos as they say. Same idea with the fight, you’re going crazy in your head but you’ve got to stay controlled and stay on your game plan. If your corner tells you something you’ve got to take that in and use it for the next round.”

JOE SMITH JR.

“Training camp has been going real great, done a lot of sparring and a lot of running. I feel great going into the fight, I feel in the best shape of my life and I’m ready to put on a good show.

“I don’t think there’s problems really that my opponent is going to present me with but I’m in the best shape of my life, so as long as I let my hands go there’s nothing that he can do.

“I’m a big puncher and I’m looking to throw a lot of hard punches and put on a good show.

“It’s a great opportunity, it feels good to be a part of something like this.

“I predict that there’s going to be a lot of punches thrown and most likely at some point in the fight I’m probably going to hurt Will and get him out of there.”

Gary Shaw in Awe After Watching Bryant Jennings Spar 16 Rounds

Bryant Jennings (640x360)
MIAMI, FL (December 2, 2015) – As Bryant “By-By” Jennings(19-1, 10 KOs) prepares for this upcoming December 19th showdown with Luis Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs), promoter Gary Shaw feels confident his fighter will be victorious after sitting in on a 16-round sparring session. The action-packed 12-round fight will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Shaw, who spent the day with Jennings and Coach John David Jackson at their training camp in Miami, witnessed an intense sparring session, where Bryant sparred with four different opponents.

“To see Bryant Jennings spar sixteen-rounds with four different guys was an amazing feat to watch,” said Gary Shaw. “I’ve been around this sport for many years and I’m telling you, Jennings is one of the best athletes I’ve ever promoted. The fact that he was able to handle all the fresh sparring partners that were rotating in was unbelievable. John David Jackson is a great coach and both he and Jennings are working extremely well together. Everyone will see a much more improved fighter when Jennings steps in the ring on December 19th.”

Shaw was also impressed with strength and conditioning coach Edward Jackson, who’s worked with Jennings for all his big fights.

“Edward Jackson is one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in boxing and I’m very pleased with his work.” Gary Shaw continued. “His track record speaks for itself with all the great champions he’s currently working with. Amazingly Jennings could have gone a few more rounds if he wanted to and I credit Edward Jackson for getting him in tip top shape.”

Tickets for the Dec. 19 HBO Boxing After Dark and HBO Latino Boxing event start at $25, $35 and $60 for ringside seats plus applicable fees and are available at the Turning Stone Resort Box Office by calling 315-361- 7469 or online at Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).

LA FIGHT CLUB MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

LOS ANGELES (December 2, 2015) – Fighters featured on the December 4 edition of LA FIGHT CLUBheld a special media workout session today ahead of their upcoming bouts at Westside Boxing Gym in Los Angeles. Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (11-0, 10 KOs), Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete (11-0, 4 KOs), Ivan “Striker” Delgado (7-0-1, 2 KOs), and Los Angeles fan favorite Nick Arce (5-0, 5 KOs) were all in attendance showing off their punching power for the press. The fighters talked about their upcoming fights and gave their thoughts on the holiday season, sharing what they are thankful for as they prepare to face their opponents in the ring this Friday. Emilio Sanchez (10-0, 7 KOs) and Joshua Franco (2-0, 1 KOs), fighters not in attendance at today’s event but also featured on the card, were also able to share their hopes for the holiday season.

Below is what the fighters had to say:

CHRISTIAN “CHIMPA” GONZALEZ, Super Featherweight Prospect:

Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez and his brother Aldahir Gonzalez
“I know Alejandro Ochoa is a tough competitor, he comes to fight and has upset numerous undefeated fighters. He’s never been knocked down or stopped; he’s always won by decision. He has a lot of experience, and we’re very aware of that. We know he’s going to come to fight and put on a show, but I’m looking forward to it. In a way it motivates me, but that’s not getting in my way.

“I’m looking forward to taking a little break. I think this is my last fight of the year, and I’m just going to take the rest of December off, not from running bbut from boxing to let my body rest. I’ve been busy this year; this is my fourth fight in 2015. I’ve been very busy so I’m planning for some rest and enjoy the holidays.

Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez and his brother Aldahir Gonzalez

“I don’t think I want to move up to 10 rounders any time soon, I think our next goal by the end of next year is to fight my first 10 rounder. Our plan was to fight six rounds this year, then start fighting eight rounds next year but it came a little earlier so we decided to do it. I feel good. We picked up on the training a little bit-more running, more sparring. Next year, our goal is to fight a 10 round fight.

“I am thankful for my family and their continuous support. I am thankful for all the blessings I have received this year and to belong to a family like Golden Boy Promotions. This year I celebrated by focusing on my training and spending time with my little brother. We had a
great workout at the gym in the morning and stayed in and watched Ladder 49 and End of Watch, two of my favorite movies.”

OSCAR “EL JAGUAR” NEGRETE, Super Bantamweight Prospect:

Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete
“I have actually known my opponent for a long time. We fought twice before during my amateur days. I won the first time in Colombia, and he won in Mexico. We are tied now, and I am hoping to break that tie on Friday night.

“I think the fight will be very exciting for the fans. I know my style and his style will combine for an entertaining fight. We both have big hearts and are going to give it our all in the ring.

“On Thanksgiving, I went Christmas shopping. I wanted to make sure that I took advantage of the stores opening early and get a few things for my family. I am grateful for my career; my family here and in Colombia; that we are all healthy; my four victories this year; and my fifth one on Dec. 4, God willing. That I am a part of the Golden Boy Promotions team, and I am very grateful for all the support from fans, family and friends.”
IVAN “STRIKER” DELGADO, Super Featherweight Prospect:

Ivan “Striker” Delgado
“I have been working very hard for this fight. I want to end the year on a high note and make sure I look good winning. I know Lizarraga Jr. went six rounds against Diego De La Hoya, and I am prepared for whatever he brings to the table.

“I am looking forward to the holidays, but I plan on maintaining my weight and staying in shape. I want to be ready for a fight in early January. My hope of the upcoming year is to stay undefeated and move up to a co-main or main event.

“This past Thanksgiving, I spent the day in the gym preparing for my fight. I am thankful for each day, to be blessed with health, a great team and family. This all motivates me to be focused and be stronger everyday.”

NICK ARCE, Super Featherweight Prospect:

Nick Arce and Family
“Ali is a tough cookie. We’ve worked hard on this training camp and we had a good sparring this year at the Westside Boxing Gym -sparrings that come forward 100 percent and that are pushing me to the max. We’ve trained really hard for this fight, and we know what we are up against. We’re ready.

“I’m looking forward to a little vacation after the fight because I missed Thanksgiving so I couldn’t eat ham, turkey or mashed potatoes. I did spend the day with my family, and I am thankful for the great support system I have around me and the great people I have in my life. I am truly blessed. This year I treated myself to a film, CREED, and we are planning a big dinner celebration after my fight next week.”

EMILIO SANCHEZ, Super Bantamweight Prospect:

Emilio Sanchez and Family
“I just want to say that this year has been a great year for me and my family. I am thankful for our health and for having them by my side. I am also very thankful for having a great team with Frank Espinoza as my manager, Golden Boy Promotions, my promoter, and Manuel Robles as my trainer. I want to thank my team for all their support and their faith in me as a fighter. I am especially thankful for my parents who have always been there for me and supporting me. I promise them that things are only going to get better for me.”

JOSHUA FRANCO, Super Flyweight Prospect:

Joshua Franco and Family
“I had a great Thanksgiving, I spent the morning doing an intense workout with my trainer, Robert Garcia and then spent the evening with Robert’s family. I am thankful to have him as my trainer and have him and his family be my family away from home. I’m looking forward to seeing my family this holiday season and taking some time off to refresh for a busy 2016. Next year, my goal is to be at eight round fights and be ready for a title bout in 2017.”

Dusty Hernandez-Harrison New Opponent on HBO Latino + Non-Televissed throne boxing Undercard for 12/5 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, FL

NEW YORK, NY (December 2, 2015) – Due to a visa issue, Canada’s Steve Claggett will be unable to participate in this weekend’s Dec. 5 televised co-feature bout against Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (28-0, 15 KOs). Hernandez-Harrison will now face Ammeth Diaz (32-12, 23 KOs) of Panama City, Panama in the ten-round welterweight bout which will be the chief support to former WBO Junior Featherweight World Champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (24-1-5, 19 KOs) of Bayamon, Puerto Rico against Rafael “Big Bang” Rivera (20-0-2, 14 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico. Opening the HBO Latino Boxing series televised event, which will air live beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT from Osceola Heritage Park Exhibit Hall A in Kissimmee, Florida, will be a ten-round light heavyweight bout featuring Colombian slugger Alexander Brand (24-1, 19 KOs) and Russian knockout artist Medzhid Bektemirov (16-0, 12 KOs).

Diaz, a former world title challenger who has won five of his last seven bouts, will look to put a blemish on Hernandez-Harrison’s undefeated record this Saturday. The Panamanian has held both the WBA Fedelatin and WBC Latino Lightweight titles and owns a win over Raymundo Beltran.

In addition to an exciting Dec. 5 televised lineup, some of boxing’s hottest rising stars will be featured on the non-televised undercard. Roc Nation Sports standouts Luis Arias and Wellington Romero along with Miguel Cotto Promotions’ Angel Acosta, Charlie Clemente, Josean Figueroa and Ricardo Rodriguez as well as Freddie Roach protégé Mike Melykian will all see action on Dec. 5 and aim to keep fans on their feet from the opening bell through beginning of the main event.

Tickets priced at $65 and $33, plus applicable service charges, are available for purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com and www.ohpark.com. To charge by phone, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Osceola Heritage Park box office which is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning at 8:00 a.m.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin now residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, undefeated Luis “Cuba” Arias (12-0, 6 KOs) began boxing at the age of seven and compiled an amateur record of 140-25, earning U.S.A Boxing’s number one men’s junior ranking in 2006, the number one men’s under-19 ranking in 2008 and the number one men’s ranking in 2010. He captured the U.S.A. Men’s Under-19 National Championship in 2008 and two U.S.A Men’s National Championships in 2009 and 2010. Arias’ professional debut took place on November 10, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles where he defeated Josh Thorpe via a four-round unanimous decision. He has reeled off 11 victories since, including three in 2015 with his last two coming by way of knockout. On Dec. 5, he’ll look to keep his winning ways going in an eight-round super middleweight bout against Dinisio Miranda 22-12-2 (19 KOs) of Miami, Florida.

Fighting out of Newburgh, New York, but hailing from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Wellington “W.A.R.” Romero (8-0-1, 3 KOs) was a highly decorated amateur who was a proud member of the 2012 Dominican Olympic Boxing Team at the 2012 Games in London. Prior to that, he captured a bronze medal at the 2010 Central American Games and made back to back appearances at the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championship and the 2011 Pan American Games. On October 26, 2013, Romero made his pro debut, defeating Victor Galindo via a four-round unanimous decision at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Since then he has won seven of his eight fights, with his lone set-back being an October 15, 2015 majority draw against Lazar Stojadinovic that many ringside observers had him winning. In his most recent bout on October 17, 2015 Romero scored a six-round unanimous decision victory against Ramesis Gil. On Dec. 5, he faces Noel Echevarria (11-6, 6 KOs) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina in a six-round junior welterweight bout. Guayama, Puerto Rico’s Echevarria most recently challenged Rod Salka on May 16 for the vacant WBA-NABA USA Super Featherweight title but came up short getting stopped in the sixth round.

Another product of Puerto Rico, Angel “Tito” Acosta (11-0, 11 KOs) will look to keep his perfect record intact on Dec. 5 against Felipe Rivas (2-2, 1 KO) of Nogales, Mexico in a six-round flyweight bout. On March 14 of this year, San Juan native Acosta took on Armando Vazquez for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Light Flyweight Championship at Coliseo Roger L. Mendoza in Caguas, Puerto Rico and came away with the title by scoring a viscous knockout in the seventh round. The undefeated prospect most recently faced Luis Almendarez on August 8, 2015 at Coliseo Hector Sola Bezares in Caguas, stopping his opponent with a first round knockout.

Undefeated Charlie Clemente (10-0, 4 KOs) of Carolina, Puerto Rico will also look to continue his winning ways on the Dec. 5. In his most recent bout on August 8, he scored two knockdowns en route to a four-round unanimous decision win against Elias Polanco at Gimnasio Wilfredo Rivera in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He will look to improve on his undefeated record when he takes on an opponent to be determined in a six-round flyweight bout.

In a six-round junior featherweight bout, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico’s Josean Figueroa (9-3-2, 7 KOs) will face Antoney Napunyi (11-13, 6 KOs) of Pahokee, Florida. In his last fight on June 6, Figueroa scored an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Jonell Nieves at Coliseo Ismael Delgado in Aguada, Puerto Rico.

In other non-televised undercard action, two Puerto Rico natives will challenge one another in a six-round junior featherweight bout when Ricardo Rodriguez (5-0, 4 KOs) of Mayaguez faces Bryan Perez (2-2, 1 KO) of Carolina. Rodriguez will look to extend his undefeated streak as he did most recently against Luis Hernandez on August 8 at Coliseo Hector Sola Bezares in Caguas when he won a four-round unanimous decision. Perez will be looking to rebound from a third round knockout against Marquel Jones on March 14 at the Sphinx Club in Washington, DC.

Opening the show will be Freddie Roach protégé Mike Melykian of Los Angeles who will be making his pro debut against Jimmy Rosario (0-1) of Bayamon in a four-round welterweight bout. Rosario made his pro debut on May 16, losing a unanimous decision against Ryan Pino at Coliseo Pedrin Zorilla in San Juan.

Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. vs. Rafael Rivera, a ten-round featherweight bout, takes place Saturday, Dec. 5 at Osceola Heritage Park Exhibit Hall A in Kissimmee, Florida. Foreman (32-2, 9 KOs), a recently ordained rabbi, will fight on Saturday, December 5 at Barclays Center, before the showdown between Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).

QUOTES FROM FOREMAN

“Jews love sports and there’s a kosher deli at Barclays Center. It’s perfect.”

“Boxing is a very spiritual sport. We all have different paths. My faith keeps me centered and focused. You can be anyone. You can be a rabbi and still be fighting on the big stage at Barclays Center.”

“People might think because you’re a rabbi and a boxer, it’s meshuganah. But anyone can be spiritually connected.”

“It’s very special to be fighting at Barclays Center because this is my home and I actually live just blocks away from the arena. I’m honored to be around so many great fighters who are on this card. Everyone can come together under one roof to watch a great sport.”

“As soon as you take it easy on yourself, that’s when you have a problem. Especially in boxing. I’ve never taken any shortcuts. If you take shortcuts in this sport you’re going to get hurt.”

“I’m staying positive about Dec. 5. I can’t predict because it’s boxing and anything can happen. It only takes one shot. I’m envisioning a successful night and an impressive victory for myself.”

Foreman moved to Brooklyn from Belarus at a young age and found solace inside the legendary Gleason’s Gym. Foreman was sensational in winning the first 27 fights of his career before he defeated Daniel Santos in November 2009 to capture a super welterweight world title. While he lost an all-New York showdown with Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium in 2010, Foreman won the last four fights of his career before retiring in 2013. Now the 35-year-old returns to the ring to fight in front of his hometown fans.

Since then, he has gone 4-0 with three KOs, defeating Misael Chacon and the tough Julio Sariana who sent him into the mat for the first time in his professional career. Most recently, Gonzalez was last seen decisioning over Darryl Hayes and stopping Luis Ruiz Lizarraga Jr. in two rounds in September. Now, Gonzalez is ready to please his fans in his fourth and first headlining appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB in Los Angeles.

A resilient fighter from Bell Gardens, Calif., Alejandro Ochoa, is riding a winning streak wave since earlier this year. Most recently the fighter went the distance against Luis Sedano and rising prospect Kevin “K-Smoove” Rivers Jr to wing both fights via decision. A professional since 2007 the 26-year is an experienced fighter with more than 83 total professional rounds under his belt and a reputation for his aggressive style that will give any fighter a tough time. Now, with two victories this year, Ochoa is ready to add another when he faces Gonzalez on Dec. 4.

Now making his home in Los Angeles, 27-year-old Colombia native Oscar Negrete was a stellar amateur before turning professional on May 24, 2013 with a four-round decision victory over Cristian Ciciliano. Two more wins would follow in 2013 for Negrete, but it was in 2014 that he began to get noticed in his adopted home state of California, as he stepped up to the plate four times and hit it out of the park with each appearance, decisioning unbeaten Carlos Medina and stopping Pablo Cupul, Gabriel Braxton and Salvador Perez. Negrete will return to the ring on February 27 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

A professional since 2009, Odilon “Olimpico” Zaleta is a former world title contender who was last seen in the ring in 2014 against Moruti Mthalane fighting for the International Boxing Organization World Flyweight title and Akira Yaegashi fighting for the for the WBC World Flyweight title. Although, Zaleta came short of victory in both opportunities, he is ready to jump in the ring in his first fight of 2015 and get back in the title game. He is hungry for a victory in his U.S. professional debut when he faces the dangerous Negrete on Dec. 4.

Unbeaten in eight pro bouts, local favorite Ivan “Striker” Delgado will open up the TV portion of the card in a six-round super featherweight matchup. The 25-year-old has had a big year in 2015, winning four bouts, including three LA FIGHT CLUB victories, most recently over Thomas Herrera in September. Delgado has stayed local, building up his name and reputation on the Southern California boxing circuit, including a win by unanimous decision against Angel Albelo at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on July 11.

22-year-old, Luis Lizarraga Jr., will make his second appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB on Dec. 4 and this time he will be looking for victory. The young professional fighter was most recently seen in the ring against Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez, in September and has faced top opposition in the ring going up against Diego De La Hoya, Kevin “K-Smoove” Rivers Jr. and Christopher Diaz. Now, Lizarraga Jr. will be looking for a victory when he goes up against Ivan Delgado in the last installment of the series this year.

Growing his fan base with each successive victory, LA’s Nick Arce has yet to let an opponent hear the final bell, with four of those wins coming in 2015. The 19-year-old most recently defeated Juan Hernandez at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on October 3 with an impressive fourth round knockout. The former amateur standout hopes to keep his streak going this December competing in a six-round super featherweight bout to end his year at the Belasco.

Fighting out of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Ali Gonzalez has remained active in 2015 with four fights under his belt. Having faced tough opposition against Luis Sedano, Roy “Pit Bull” Tapia, Joet Gonzales and Edgar Daniel Ahumada, Gonzalez will be looking to end the year with a victory. He will be taking on Los Angeles favorite Nick Arce in the last installment of LA FIGHT CLUB this year and will be looking to impress with a great victory.

Los Angeles super bantamweight Emilio Sanchez will step into his December 4 bout as the co-main event attraction, and it’s a responsibility the 21-year-old takes seriously. Making his professional debut in 2013, the undefeated Sanchez can do it all in the ring. Sanchez won his first three bouts in 2013 via first-round knockouts and has continued to impress through 2015. Given that his last four victories have taken place in the Belasco Theater, he will be right at home no matter who stands across the ring from him on fight night.

New fighter, Juan “Juanito” Hernandez has had a busy year making his professional debut May, 2015. With great victories under his belt against Jose Caravantes, Manuel Sandoval, Victor Martinez and Cruz Saucedo, the young fighter will be looking to continue the trend when he faces Emilio Sanchez on Dec. 4.

Hailing from San Antonio, Joshua Franco made his professional debut as a new Golden Boy fighter on the August 6 edition of the hit monthly series LA FIGHT CLUB defeating Temoatzin Landeros via split decision, and quickly followed up with a victory over Saul Hernandez at the October installment. In a six-round super flyweight bout, San Antonio’s Franco returns to the Belasco, looking to build on the two LA FIGHT CLUB bouts he has won since entering the pro ranks in 2015 after an impressive amateur career.

Also hailing from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Leonardo Reyes is an up-and-coming fighter looking for another victory in 2015. In his sixth fight of the year, Reyes is a riding a winning streak with great victories over Johnathan Quiroz, Felipe Reyes and Carlos Lopez. He will be looking to continue the streak when he faces Joshua Franco on Dec. 4.

LA FIGHT CLUB is a monthly boxing series that showcases the brightest stars in the sport and present these exciting matchups in a nightclub atmosphere with an original setup. The boxing ring is set on the main floor of the Belasco Theater with on-camera standing room for fans in front of the ring similar to a concert pit, as well as reserved balcony and floor seats. Los Angeles’ own DJ Ray of Big Boy’s Neighborhood spins music during the fights and fans are able to dance and mingle with the fighters when the venue converts into a night club, in a VIP experience not matched by any promoter in the industry.

Media interested in attending the Dec. 4 installment of LA FIGHT CLUB must be pre-approved for credentials. Credential applications are now closed. Media will not be credentialed on-site, no exceptions.

Kiev, Ukraine (December 2, 2015) #1 Ranked Cruiserweight Contender Oleksandr Usyk, (8-0, 8KO’s), will return to battle on Saturday, December 12 against world ranked, once beaten Pedro “El Reguilete” Rodriguez, (21-1, 19KO’s), of Miami, Florida in a scheduled 12-round battle for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Title at the Sport Palace in Kiev, Ukraine.

Presented by K2 Promotions Ukraine, Usyk will be making the fourth defense of his WBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Title.

“I’m thrilled to be fighting again in the capital of Ukraine,” said Usyk, who earned a Gold Medal for Ukraine at the 2012 Olympics in London. “Rodriguez is a very tough Cuban and the biggest puncher of my young career but I’ll be well prepared for victory as I head towards my goal of becoming the cruiserweight champion of the world.”

“Boxing fans are thrilled to welcome Oleksandr back to Kiev for this upcoming fight,” said Alexander Krassyuk of K2 Promotions Ukraine. “The international response we’ve received from his ascent in the cruiserweight rankings has been tremendous, the whole world wants to see his fights.”

“But Rodriguez is the next challenge so first Oleksandr must focus on this fight and then we can look forward to a big 2016.”

The 29-year-old Usyk is coming off a third round stoppage of Johnny Muller on August 29 In Kiev. He is currently world ranked #1 by the WBO and #8 by the WBC. He is also ranked #8 by Ring Magazine and #10 by USA Today.

Klitschko to exercise rematch clause with Fury

wklitschko
Just disposed Heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko will exercise his contractual rematch clause with Tyson Fury following Saturday’s fight which saw Fury lift the Heavyweight championship from Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I was really frustrated directly after the fight, but after some short nights, I now know that I want to show that I am much better than my performance on Saturday,” Klitschko said. “I couldn’t show my full potential at any time. This is what I want to change in the rematch — and I will. Failure is not an option.”

“There will be a huge worldwide interest in this fight, which already can be billed as the fight of the year 2016,” Bernd Boente, Klitschko’s manager, said. “We received so many questions of fans and journalists after last Saturday. The new champion and his challenger will answer all of them inside the ring.”

Mick Hennessy, Fury’s promoter, told ESPN.com that their side was thrilled that Klitschko elected to go for the rematch.

“We relish [that he exercised] that option,” Hennessy said. “There’s no bigger fight than fighting Wladimir again. [A title unification fight with Deontay] Wilder is nowhere near as big. And [mandatory challenger Vyacheslav] Glazkov? Come on. He’s an unknown. He doesn’t bring anything to the table in any way shape or form. … We were worried Wladimir wouldn’t take the rematch. We are delighted. It’s good that Wladimir made the decision quickly. We can strike while the iron’s hot. We’ll see an even better Tyson in the rematch.”

Klitschko’s decision to take the rematch isn’t a surprise, although he took time to digest the defeat. On Monday, Klitschko wrote on social media: “I still don’t believe I actually lost. Man, I’m suffering.”

“We’ll be looking at venues everywhere and we’ll go where it will gross the most money,” Hennessy said. “There are massive stadiums here in England but everyone wants the fight. I’ve had contacts from abroad, the (United Arab Emirates) as well. We are excited — both sides are to make this a super fight.”

“We are very, very happy with Tyson’s situation in this deal as champion. We’re done,” Hennessy said.

Hennessy said if the Fury-Klitschko rematch happens without the IBF involved, so be it.

“If they’re going to manipulate this situation to have two average fighters not worthy of the heavyweight title fighting (for the IBF belt), they’re going to push Tyson, who is the lineal champion, into a position where he will do a press conference put that belt into the (trash) bin,” he said. “We feel they’ve shown zero respect for the new champion or for the former champion, who held their title for 9½ years.

Culcay confident ahead of interim WBA World title defence

The stage is set for Saturday night’s World Championship boxing in Germany, where ‘Golden’ Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) will defend his interim WBA World Light Middleweight title against the unbeaten Irishman Dennis Hogan (22-0-1, 7 KOs).

Culcay claimed the interim WBA belt with a unanimous points decision over Maurice Weber in May, and is now looking for a first successful defence at Hamburg’s Inselparkhalle.

‘’It’s great to be back in Hamburg,’’ said the reigning champion at today’s final pre-fight press conference. ‘’This is where I started my pro career, and where I used to live and train before moving to Berlin earlier this year.

‘’I have a lot fans coming to support me at the Inselparkhalle and I plan on repaying their support with a great performance on Saturday night.’’

Culcay was full praise for his coach Ulli Wegner, who has been credited with reviving the 30 year-old’s promising career. ‘’Mr Wegner has brought order and strategy to my training,’’ he said. ‘’I feel well prepared and I can’t wait for the first bell to sound!’’

The challenger, fighting out of Queensland Australia, has amassed an impressive record in his twenty-three-fight career, claiming twenty-two victories and one draw. Now, Hogan aims to secure his first major title by beating the champion in his own backyard.

‘’I’m here to win,’’ declared Hogan. ‘’And I’ll be ready for whatever Culcay has to offer. My greatest strength is my adaptability and that coupled with my irrepressible will to win will prove too much for him.’’

Ahead of Saturday night’s action, promoter Kalle Sauerland is predicting an entertaining encounter between the talented light middleweights. ‘’This is going to be a tough test for Jack,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’It’s a real 50-50 fight, but whatever the outcome, it guarantees excitement!’’

Bulgarian heavyweight star Kubrat Pulev (21-1, 11 KOs) takes chief support at the Team Sauerland show in Hamburg. The 34 year-old former World title challenger returns following a victory over George Arias to face Maurice Harris (26-20-3, 11 KOs), with a clear mission in mind. ‘’In a year’s time I want to challenge for the World title again, and this time the belt will be mine!’’

Tickets for the interim WBA World Light Middleweight fight between Jack Culcay and Denis Hogan on Saturday night at the Inselparkhalle in Hamburg, Germany are available online via www.tickethall.de or www.eventim.de.

The result of the 28 media who participated in a SHOWTIME Prediction Poll favored Quillin by a 3-to-1 margin. Quillin, a former WBO Middleweight World Champion, was the selection of 21 experts, Jacobs, a winner of 10 straight by knockout and the current WBA Middleweight World Champion, the pick on 7.

Nineteen boxers, five of whom are world champions, gave their predictions and came up with a different conclusion than the writers. While some saw it as too close to call, those that did make predictions saw it for Jacobs, 8-5-2.

How the media and fighters see “JACOBS VS. QUILLIN”:

Tim Dahlberg, Associated Press, (Jacobs): “I like Jacobs in a tough fight, winning by a close decision. With Quillin’s power he might go down at some point in the fight, but I like Jacobs’ boxing IQ and skills to pull him to a close win.”

Kevin Iole, Yahoo Sports, (Quillin): “Peter Quillin by decision: This is one of those fights I literally just flipped a coin to pick. I like Jacobs’ range and I think he has faced better competition from top to bottom, but Quillin is an accurate puncher with good power and I think he will win a dogfight.”

Bob Velin, USA Today, (Jacobs):”While Quillin is bigger and a bigger puncher, Jacobs will outbox him. I just feel with all that Jacobs has been through in his life, he wants this more than Quillin. That will be the difference. Jacobs wins unanimous decision.”

Lance Pugmire, Los Angeles Times, (Quillin) “Peter Quillin has been working toward a victory like this for years. It’s time to put up or shut up and this test against a cerebral Daniel Jacobs will let us know once and for all if Quillin is elite or is entitled. Quillin by unanimous decision.”

Mark Jacobsen, New York Magazine, (Quillin): “Quillin will win. Jacobs has good name (minus two letters) but he is light in the resume. Quillin beat Andy Lee (note: split draw) and is gritty.”

Robert Morales, Los Angeles News Group, (Quillin): “I’m taking Peter Quillin to take Daniel Jacobs’ title via decision. Simply, I think Quillin is a better fighter and that his superior skills will bring him his second world title in this division. My only concern is Quillin making weight. But if he hasn’t struggled so much to do so, he’ll win.”

Brian Campbell, ESPN, (Quillin): “What makes this middleweight title fight so intriguing is both fighters still have questions to answer regarding whether they are truly elite. Both are athletic and powerful, and each has shown a certain level of vulnerability. Ultimately, I think Quillin has the stronger chin and that will be the difference. Quillin by KO.”

Damian Calhoun, Orange County (Calif.) Register, (Jacobs): “They’ve been calling each other out for years and now they’re finally going to meet in the ring. I expect this fight to be close. I can see both fighters getting tested and touching the canvas in this fight. In the end, I think Jacobs, with his overall boxing skills, will be able to do enough to edge Quillin for a unanimous decision victory. Should be a great fight.”

Lyle Fitzsimmons, CBSSports.com, (Quillin): “A hard fight not to like, between two fighters whose styles are appealing. There’s admittedly little to separate between the two, so in a close one I’ll go with the guy who’s had more big-stage opportunities — Quillin. He can hold his own in a technical match, and he’s got enough dog in him to grind through a tough one, too. Quillin by close decision.”

Kelsey McCarson, BleacherReport.com, (Quillin): “Kid Chocolate proved his ability as a boxer in his draw with Andy Lee, and there’s never been any question about his power. The combination of those two things, alongside his experience, will lead him to victory in a close and entertaining bout. Quillin by decision.”

Ricardo Lopez, La Opinion, (Jacobs): “I think Jacobs wins this one to extend his impressive 10-fight KO streak. He’s proven to be really strong, but it will be a close one.”

Andreas Hale, Ring Magazine, (Jacobs): “Danny Jacobs has been primed for greatness the moment he started his pro career. Never mind his loss to Dmitry Pirog, he wasn’t mentally in the game. Aside from that hiccup, he’s showcased remarkable skill and a knack for the finish. Quillin has been sharp, but hasn’t quite passed the eye test for me. His fight with Andy Lee was perhaps indicative of what happens when Quillin steps up in competition. With Jacobs being the more skilled of the two and on a mission to keep the judges out of the decision, I see him taking over late in a competitive fight where Jacobs slowly wears down Quillin en route to a late stoppage.”

Jake Donovan, BoxingScene.com, (Quillin):”Quillin can crack, but his finishing skills leave a lot to be desired. That said, Jacobs has yet to prove he can overcome in-ring adversity. Conquering cancer is braver than any battle he’ll ever experience in the ring … but as far as this fight goes, depending on him to box that cleanly for 12 rounds without getting caught clean is asking a lot. The ultimate wild card is whether or not Quillin can effectively make weight. Providing that he doesn’t struggle in that regard, my hunch is that he ends the fight at some point with one big punch to become a two-time middleweight titlist. Quillin wins by KO.”

Doug Fischer, RingTV.com/The Ring magazine, (Quillin), “I think Daniel Jacobs, the more polished boxer of the two middleweights, will outclass Peter Quillin over the first half of an intense boxing match. I believe Jacobs will use his sharper technique to catch Quillin between wide power volleys. He might drop Kid Chocolate early. But I think Quillin will gradually impose his greater size and strength on Jacobs. I think Quillin will catch and overwhelm Jacobs late in the fight to win by TKO”.

Mike Sloan, Sherdog.com, (Quillin): “This is such a terrific fight, one that can go either way. With so many variables being taken into account, with both Quillin’s and Jacobs’ skill sets, it’s actually a toss-up. Both men have terrific power, they both have great hand speed and they have taken on quality opposition. My gut initially told me that Quillin would come out on top but I’ve been flip-flopping ever since this fight was announced. With that said, I have to stick with my gut and go with Kid Chocolate via majority decision.”

Anson Wainwright, RingTV.com/RING magazine, (Quillin):”An excellent matchup for the middleweight championship of Brooklyn. I see this as 50-50. Both guys have very good power and are capable of hurting the other. I can see both on the canvas with Quillin doing enough to win a very good fight on points, with talks of a rematch afterwards.”

Joe Santoliquito, RingTV.com/Sherdog, (Quillin): “I like Quillin’s hand speed and punching power. I also feel he’s recently been in with better opposition, preparing him for fights like this. Quillin wins a decision.”

Miguel Maravilla, FightNews.com, (Quillin): “It will be a close fight but I give the edge to Quillin to win a decision.”

Percy Crawford, FightHype.com, (Quillin): “Quillin showed a lot of growth suffering his first blemish (draw against Andy Lee). He also handled being floored for the first time very well against a very dangerous Lee during that fight. I just don’t see Daniel Jacobs being able to put him in situations he can’t handle. Quillin comes on in the mid rounds and stops Jacobs by eighth-round TKO!”

Diego M. Morilla (XN Sports, RingTV.com), (Quillin): “It is a very close fight on paper, and it will live up to the expectations. Both fighters are equally skilled and both are proven at this weight, but in terms of resilience and power, the advantage goes to Quillin by a small but meaningful margin. Kid Chocolate is the one who has faced the strongest, most powerful opponents so far, and his results have been impressive for the most part. If Jacobs can establish his distance and his speed, he has a chance. But if Quillin is able to turn this into a fight he’ll score a decisive win by decision or late stoppage.”

Steve Lillis, Box Nation, (Quillin): “Great match and local bragging rights make it even sexier. I am edging towards Quillin who is more battle-hardened. Quillin by TKO 8.”

Eric Raskin, Boxing Writer/PBC Ringside Scorer (Quillin): “Jacobs has been one of the best feel-good stories in boxing over the last few years, but feel-good stories don’t win you tough fights. Quillin is the highest caliber opponent he’s faced since his upset loss to Dmitry Pirog, and I expect Kid Chocolate’s length and strength to separate him from Jacobs. Look for a fan-friendly, competitive fight, with Quillin winning by decision, roughly eight rounds to four.”

Brad Berkwitt, RingsiderReport.com, (Jacobs): “On paper, this is a great matchup and New York City, which has some of the greatest boxing fans in the world will love it! It’s really a tough fight in my book to call, but I’m going with Danny Jacobs by a tough close decision in the 115-113 range.”

John J. Raspanti, MaxBoxing.com, (Quillin); “I’m going with Quillin for two reasons: Talent and whiskers. Quillin has also been in with the better fighters during his time in the ring. He showed a strong chin against Andy Lee seven months ago. Cancer survivor Jacobs is a great guy, but looked vulnerable against Sergio Mora in his last fight. If the feather-fisted ‘Latin Snake’ can knock him down, Quillin, with 23 career KOs, can stop him. Quillin by TKO 9.”

James Slater, FightNews.com, (Quillin): “I like Quillin in a great fight. Jacobs is a class act, as is Quillin; I just think Quillin wants it more. Both can be hit, hurt and knocked down, and we will very possibly see a couple of knockdowns. I take Quillin to either get a points or a late stoppage win.”

Jason Gonzalez, Examiner.com, (Quillin): “I think Jacobs will eventually succumb to the pressure that Quillin will apply. Jacobs was knocked down early by and very light-hitting Sergio Mora. You would be remiss to not question the sturdiness of Jacob’s chin. Expect Quillin to test the chin of Jacobs early and win by TKO 7.”

Erika Fernandez, BlackSportsOnline.com, (Jacobs): “I think this will be a very close fight, but I feel that Jacobs has the better skill set and is hungrier for the victory. When you combine skill with hunger that is a deadly combination. I think it could go either way, but I am predicting Jacobs by eighth-round KO.”

Phil D. Jay, WorldBoxingNews.com, (Quillin): “I believe Jacobs v Quillin is a well-matched fight. Both can punch or box as and when needed so I see the fight being a close run thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a split decision, but saying that, either fighter could also end the contest at a moment’s notice. Pushed on it, I’d have to give a slight edge to Quillin – but not without a scare or two. Quillin wins by split decision.”

(Boxers)

Chris Algieri, Former WBO Super Lightweight World Champion, (Quillin): “Tough fight to call. I believe whoever can assert their fight will ultimately take the victory. Danny needs to set a fast pace and box smart. Quillin will look to be explosive and bring the pressure. Too close to predict for me but will go with the more experienced man in Quillin to take it.”

Chris Arreola, Former Heavyweight Title Challenger, (Jacobs): “I think it’s a very good fight. I’m taking Jacobs in a very close fight. I just think Jacobs has more to prove and has had to overcome so much. I can’t wait to watch this fight!”

Andre Berto, Former WBC Welterweight World Champion, (No Pick): “Tough fight, it’s really a toss up. If it goes the distance I have Jacobs winning. If it doesn’t I have Quillin by knockout.”

Gabriel Bracero, Welterweight Contender from Brooklyn (Jacobs) – “I think they’re both good fighters and both strong. I think it’s going to come down to who’s smarter and whose sharper the night of the fight almost like an aggressive chess match the first person to make a mistake is going to pay.. I doubt that the fight goes the distance and they’re both going in there like they both have something to prove. I think Jacobs has more of an arsenal and will pull it off.”

Dominic Breazeale, 2012 U.S. Olympian & Undefeated Heavyweight, (Jacobs) – “My prediction is Danny Jacobs wins by way of KO in the 6 round. He’s a very humble, hard working man that deserves a great victory.”

Jermall Charlo, IBF Junior Middleweight World Champion, (Draw): “I hope the fight ends in a draw. I think it’s going to be a draw. Both guys are real strong and they both have good days and they both have bad days. But if someone wins, it will be whoever is in better shape.”

Anthony Dirrell, Former WBC Super Middleweight World Champion (Draw): “I hope it’s a draw, and I think it may be. Both fighters are my guys. Daniel and I went through similar health concerns that brought us closer, but Peter grew up in Grand Rapids. So I really just want to see a great fight and may the best man win. I know both guys respect each other and I hope that’ll always be the case.”

B.J. Flores, Cruiserweight Contender & NBC Boxing Analyst (No Pick): “This is a rough one. I really like Danny Jacobs’ boxing ability and his offensive tools and weapons. He has speed and power. The question is, if Danny is going to be able to stand there and take the hits from Pete when he lands. Whenever he does land, it will be interesting to see if Danny will come in with a game plan to neutralize Peter or if there is really going to be a battle of brooklyn head to head and fight thats the right fight for peter quillin not for danny jacobs. danny needs to take his opponent’s attributes and pete’s main thing he can do is punch, so the question is will Danny be able to take that away from Pete. It is a great opportunity for both and there can only be one king of the city.”

Tony Harrison, Super Welterweight Contender, (Jacobs): “I’m up in the air on this one, but I’m leaning towards Jacobs because he knows what adversity is and how to overcome it. He’s got nothing to los and he’s fighting in his hometown. He should have a chip on his shoulder.”

Amir Khan, Former Unified Super Lightweight World Champion, (Quillin): “I think Peter Quillin wins the fight. It’s a really exciting matchup between two guys fighting in their own backyard in Brooklyn. There is very little to choose between both fighters but if I had to opt for one guy it would be Quillin. I really respect Danny Jacob’s background and the way he has fought to become champion. He’s shown that he has the resilience, skill and punching power to go in and beat the best middleweights around but I think that Quillin is going to look to outwork him and use his movement to win a close points decision. Jacobs has the advantage in reach and height so that could cause Quillin problems especially if he gets his jab going and boxes from the outside. Nevertheless, it’s a really hard fight to call and there are arguments either way but there’s no doubt it’s going to be a great fight because neither guy will want to take a back step in their hometown.”

Erislandy Lara, WBA 154-Pound World Champion, (Quillin): “This is a great matchup between two young hungry fighters and I think it’s going to be a very close fight. With that being said, I’m picking ‘Kid Chocolate’ to win. He’s got Cuban blood running through his veins and has fought better competition. I’ll also be watching very closely because the winner could be one of my future opponents.”

Andy Lee, WBO Middleweight World Champion (No Pick): “I think it’s a close fight. Danny probably has the better boxing fundamentals and will look to outbox Peter. But Peter is certainly the bigger puncher and will look to land heavy punches while boxing with Danny. It’s an exciting fight hard and a hard one to call.”

Aron Martinez, Welterweight Contender, (Jacobs) – “I’ll go with Jacobs by decision. It will be a great fight though I could really see it going either way.”

Sergio Mora, Former WBC Super Welterweight World Champion, (Quillin) – “Both Jacobs & Quillin are big punchers with flawed technique. In the battle of power punching, Quillin’s size & better chin will hold up better, but If Jacobs decides to box & move I can see him outpointing Quillin. It’ll be a close fight either way. I’m picking Quillin by late stoppage.”

Victor Ortiz, Former WBC Welterweight World Champion, (No Pick): “May the best man win. It’s a great fight. Blue corner and red corner. My prediction is that one of those corners is going to win.”

Edwin Rodriguez, IBF No. 10 Light Heavyweight Contender, (Jacobs): “”Jacobs is a better boxer and just as good of a puncher as Quillin with sharper technical skills. It should be an entertaining fight but Jacobs will win by unanimous decision.”

Leo Santa Cruz, WBA Super World Featherweight Champion, (Quillin): “It’s going to be a hard fight for both of them, but Peter Quillin is stronger and he’s never been hurt, so I think he might take it. Quillin by seventh-round KO.”

Keith Thurman, WBA Welterweight World Champion, (Jacobs): “Knowing Jacobs and his amateur background I believe that he has the skills and the knowledge to pull away the victory, but Quillin is no slouch. He has tremendous strength and the ability to stop or hurt Danny at any moment. I’m truly looking forward to this fight. This is another great matchup for the fight fans this year.”

Sammy Vasquez, Undefeated Welterweight Contender, (Jacobs) – “This can go either way. Both have power and are good fighters with two different styles as Peter just comes forward but yet stays mid range and is good at it, Danny moves a lot and has good angles, I would give Danny the edge for his movement but he needs to stay busy and hopefully he doesn’t run into any punches but it’s a toss up to me.”

Undefeated Super Bantamweight Adam Lopez to take on former world champion Erik Aiken on December 12th in San Antonio, Texas

Adam Lopez

San Antonio, Texas (December 2, 2015) – Undefeated Super Bantamweight Adam Lopez (13-0, 6 KO’s) returns to the ring on Saturday, December 12th at the AT&T Center in his native San Antonio when he takes on former world champion Erik Aiken in a bout scheduled for 6-rounds.

Lopez, who is ranked number-eight by the WBA on the strength of his wins over undefeated fighters Pablo Cruz and Eliecer Aquino on ShoBox: The New Generation.

“Everything is good and I have been getting ready,”said Lopez. “It is very nice to be fighting in San Antonio and also be fighting on my birthday. It could not be any better as the arena is about a mile from my home and its the perfect ending to my year”

Lopez will turn 25 on the day of the fight and he wants to continue to the momentum of a strong 2015.

“This has been the best year as a pro. I got the two big wins on ShoBox and have picked up regional titles that should have me ranked in the organizations. I wish it would have happened sooner, but better late than never!”

In Aiken, he is taking on a veteran who has been out of the ring, but he is a former world Featherweight champion, who has wins over Tim Austin and his title winning effort over Valdemir Pereira.

“I do not know much about Aiken, but I can not underestimate anybody, especially if they have been a world champion.”

“I want to look impressive on December 12th and have a great 2016. I am hoping for bigger opportunities. I am looking to headline a ShoBox card in February. By the end of 2016, I see myself as a top contender, if not a world champion, but first I am looking to close out the year by looking impressive in front of all my family and friends in San Antonio and have a great celebration for my birthday.”

Said Lopez’promoter Vito Mielnicki of GH3 Promotions, “This has been a great year for Adam. He had two breakthrough performances in different ways. He scored the big knockout over Cruz and then he showed a lot of heart and different aspects of his game in the win over Aquino. Aiken is a good name, who is a former world champion and when he gets by this fight, i expect him to be on the cusp of a world title by this time next year.”

GH3 Promotions features undefeated Middleweight Antoine Douglas, Super Middleweight’s Jerry Odom & Derrick Webster, undefeated Super Bantamweight Adam Lopez as well as Boxcino 2015 Jr. Middleweight Champion John Thompson, Jr., undefeated Welterweight’s Hector Frometa, Jerrell Harris & Keenan Smith, Light Heavyweight Lavarn Harvell, Jr. Lightweight O’Shanique Foster & Super Middleweight Andrew Hernandez to the GH3 Promotions stable.

PINOLERO BOXING OFFERS “GRUDGE MATCH” THIS WEEKEND IN NICARAGUA

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (December 2, 2015) — Prolific Nicaraguan promoter Marcelo Sanchez’ Pinolero Boxing offers up another superb fight card this Saturday, Dec. 5, following on the heels of its 100th boxing promotion show.

Highlighting the fight card is a rubber match between 21-year-old Nicaraguan prospect Junior Ramirez (13-1, 9 KOs) versus David Bency. Ramirez is the World Boxing Youth Silver Super Lightweight Champion who was undefeated and scheduled to defend his title last month in Monte Carlo. However, he was upset by a fighter he had previously beaten, Bency, in their rematch.

Also fighting on the card is No. 1 ranked Nicaraguan bantamweight Dixon Flores (11-3-2), who recently accepted the challenge to fight sensational Mexican champion Carlos Cuadras (32-0-1), and he now hopes to rebound and continue moving forward. His opponent will be undefeated 20-year-old Jose Perez (16-0, 13 KOs), the No. 1 rated super flyweight in Nicaragua, in what promises to be an explosive fight.

Also fighting on the eight-bout card is superstar Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez’ cousin, fellow Nicaraguan Christopher Rosales (15-2, 11 KOs). The 21-year-old Gonzalez faces Martin Diaz (8-3-1) as he rises in the rankings after losing a hotly contested, close decision to undefeated Khalid Yafai (17-0, 11 KOs) in the United Kingdom. Rosales is currently ranked No. 10 in the world, No. 1 in Nicaragua.

“Marcelo (Pinolero Boxing) continues to offer a steady flow of intriguing fight cards like this Saturday’s, as does his Central American Panamanian neighbor, Rogelio Espino, of Promociones y Eventos del Istmo,” Pinolero Boxing spokesperson Michael Schmidt commented. “It is apparent that young championship-caliber fighters such as Ramirez, Flores, and Rosales are more than prepared to step up and accept challenges. They’re all in their early twenties with each having had 14 or more battle-hardened fights. They continue to move up in the rankings while gaining the necessary experience to add to Nicaraguan’s storied history of championship fighters.”

“We thank all of our associates who work with us to help us promote these types of intriguing fight cards,” Sanchez added. “This Saturday will be another exciting night of boxing.”

MALIGNAGGI: EUROPEAN TITLE SHOT IS A DREAM COME TRUE

Paulie Malignaggi
Paulie Malignaggi says he will fulfil a lifelong dream when he challenges Gianluca Branco for the European Welterweight title at The O2 on December 12, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The Italian-American was born in Brooklyn but spent the his early years in Siracusa, Sicily before returning to the Big Apple, where he has become one of America’s most popular fighters.

Malignaggi won World titles at Super-Lightweight in 2007 and at Welterweight in 2012, and the ‘Magic Man’ is no stranger to boxing in the UK and Europe, having defended his Super Lightweight belt at the City of Manchester Stadium (now the Etihad Stadium) in a rematch with Lovemore N’Dou in May 2008 and winning his Welterweight strap against Vyacheslav Senchenko in the Ukraine in April 2012.

Branco makes the first defence of the title he won last November against Rafal Jackiewicz to become a two-weight European champion, but Malignaggi intends to make his reign a short one and achieve his European title goal at the first attempt.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to fight for the European title,” said Malignaggi. “I’m proud of my Italian roots and I’ve always believed that I would get the chance to fight for the belt.

“British boxing fans are amazing and The O2 is one of the best venues in the world, I cannot wait to get over to the London and put on a great performance for the fans and get my hands on the title. Branco is a quality fighter with a lot of experience, but I believe that I’ll take that title on December 12 and do it in style.”

Malignaggi’s clash with Branco is part of a huge night of action at The O2, topped by Anthony Joshua MBE taking on bitter rival Dillian Whyte for the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles.

Chris Eubank Jr and Spike O’Sullivan meet in a final eliminator for the WBA World Middleweight title, Kevin Mitchell meets Ismael Barroso for the WBA Interim Lightweight title with the winner facing newly crowned WBA supremo Anthony Crolla, Liverpool Cruiserweight favourite Tony Bellew faces Mateusz Masternak, Josh Warrington defend his WBC International Featherweight title against Jorge Sanchez and Joshua’s fellow Olympic gold medal hero Luke Campbell MBE is in action.
