Sheldon Moore Scores Dominant Win in Uprising Promotions Debut

Västerås, Sweden (Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015) – Belgian super welterweight Sheldon Moore (15-3-1, 10 KOs) made his Uprising Promotions debut on Saturday, earning a unanimous decision over a game Lukasz Janik (14-15-1, 8 KOs) in Sweden. The fight was held at the Rocklunda Hall in Västerås, with all three judges seeing it 60-54 in favor of Moore.

“Sheldon gave his opponent a boxing exhibition, as he dominated from round one to round six,” said Ronson Frank, President of Uprising Promotions. “I am very pleased with his performance and am looking forward to building off this for his December 12th date for the two WBC regional belts.”

On the December 12th date that Frank referenced, Moore will meet Islam Teffahi (17-5-2, 5 KOs) for the WBC International Silver and WBC Francophone Super Welterweight titles at the Centre sportif des Ascenseurs in Le Roeulx, Belgium.

“I feel great. That was a tough guy,” Moore remarked after defeating Janik tonight. “He was a tough, durable opponent. He wasn’t here to lose. He tried hard. I was just smarter and faster than him, and it showed up on the scorecards.”

Moore came out in the first round and worked well behind a consistently effective jab that set the table for the six-frame encounter.

“I’ve been blessed with a beautiful left hand, a beautiful jab,” Moore stated. “We’ve been working on that.”

In the second round, Moore began to follow up the jab with a right hand over the top, showing good poise and calmness against an awkwardly aggressive opponent. In the middle frames, he got busier, timing his advances well and getting to the action first amid exchanges. He also began to show movement that frustrated Janik, particularly when he displayed his quickness at the point of impact by planting and stepping into his combinations while he changed levels. The Belgian was also very sound defensively, blocking some winging shots from Janik throughout the contest that mostly hit his gloves and forearms.

In the sixth and final round, Moore turned up the volume even further, firing more numbers and backing up Janik in the opening minute with a well-constructed burst. He found his best rhythm in that last frame as well, finishing off a dominant shutout victory to make it a successful debut under the Uprising Promotions banner.

With Moore taking no damage on Saturday, he is now all set for his December 12th bout in his native country of Belgium for the WBC International Silver and WBC Francophone Super Welterweight belts.

Fury wins Heavyweight title with decision over Klitschko.

Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury ended the decade long Heavyweight title reign of Wladimir Klitschko by winning a 12-round unanimous decision at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

It was a jab-fest early with not much going on.  Fury was slightly more aggressive.  In round five, Klitschko was cut under the left eye from an accidental headbutt.

In round nine, Klitschko landed a big right but he was out done as he was drilled with punishing left hook.  It was more of the same as Fury’s movement would befuddle Klitschko.  Klitschko was cut in three places including around both eyes and his forehead.  Fury landed a a huge left hook in round eleven, but that round advantage was done in by Fury being docked a point for hitting behind the head.  Klitschko had his best round in the final round as he got in some good left hooks but it was too little, too late as Fury lifted the titles and ended the decade reign of Klitschko.

Fury won by scores of 116-111 and 115-112 twice and is now 25-0.  Klitschko is 64-4.

AMIR IMAM VS. ADRIAN GRANADOS, OSCAR RIVAS SHOWTIME BOXING ON SHO EXTREME PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

QUEBEC CITY, Canada (Nov. 26, 2015) – Undefeated WBC No. 1 ranked super lightweight Amir Imam (18-0, 15 KOs) and Adrian Granados (16-4-2, 11 KOs) faced off on Thursday ahead of their 10-round bout on Saturday, Nov. 28, on SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME.

The SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME telecast begins live at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Vidéotron Centre in Quebec City prior to that evening’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast. In the SHO EXTREME opener, undefeated heavyweight and former international amateur star Oscar Rivas (17-0, 12 KOs) will face Joey Abell (31-8, 29 KOs) in a 10-round bout.

IBF Super Middleweight World Champion James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) will defend his belt against former 168-pound champ Lucian Bute (32-2, 25 KOs) in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT). In the co-feature, the WBC’s No. 1-ranked 175-pound fighter Isaac Chilemba (24-2-2, 10 KOs) will square off with No. 2-ranked Eleider Alvarez (18-0, 10 KOs) in a light heavyweight world title eliminator for the right to face WBC Champion Adonis Stevenson.

Here is what the SHO EXTREME participants had to say on Thursday:

AMIR IMAM

“I know I’m taking a risk by taking this fight but I’m going to take advantage of this. I really don’t need rest because I’m in the gym anyway. So let’s just get this fight out of the way and I’ll just wait for the world title fight.

“I don’t feel pressure. I know what I jumped into when I got into this professional boxing game, and I have a good team around me. We’re a tight circle and very strong, and when the opportunities come, I’ll be ready to take advantage of it.

“People are talking about me wanting to fight Errol Spence and getting revenge (on a past U.S. Olympic boxing trials loss). I don’t have revenge on my mind. I mean, we could definitely do it when I move up a weight class, but right now I’m focused on a 140-pound title shot. I want that title shot in early 2016 against (current WBC world champion) Viktor Postol.

“(Postol) is a good fighter and he got the title for a reason, but you can’t hide and run for too long and my time is coming next year. You get one defense and then it’s all me. It’s all Young Master.”

ADRIAN GRANADOS

“I would say this is the biggest fight of my career. It’s going to be a great fight and I’m looking forward to a great night.

“(Imam’s) got a lot of tools and he’s very talented. We’ll take it round by round and make adjustments as the fight goes.

“I’ve rebounded well. I’m not satisfied with the way my career has gone and had a lot of bad decisions and management problems. I wasn’t brought along like my opponent was. But it’s helped me grow some thick skin and attributes to why I’m here today.

“I’ve faced tough fighters before and it’s not the first time I’ve been the underdog. I will pull off this upset.

“I’m looking to shock the boxing world on Saturday night.”

OSCAR RIVAS

“My strength is my speed and the way I put pressure on my opponent. So I’m going after (Abell) and will put a lot of pressure on him until he falls.

“I’m so thrilled and elated to fight again on a big stage. I fought on ShoBox in my last fight and it was amazing. It’s so important for me to get seen so I can fulfill my dream and get into the top 10 in my division.

“This is the biggest fight of my career and the biggest opportunity I’ve ever had. I just want to make sure I grab it and look spectacular.”

STACY McKINLEY, Imam’s manager and trainer

“I can’t find anything we need to work on. Amir is strong and technically sound and he’s getting more experienced every time he fights. He’s a devastating puncher. He’s the full package and that’s very tough to find. They don’t come around too often.

“I’d like him to fight Adrien Broner next year. I’d like to fight all the guys and unify all the titles next year. Boxing is going to need a new superstar now that Floyd Mayweather is gone, and we’re not going to wait 15 years to make another one. I think Amir unifies all the titles at 140 and 147, then we’d have our new superstar within 36 months.

“He has to use his jab to win on Saturday. He’s got a beautiful jab, the best jab in boxing. And everything has to come right behind it.”

WELSH ACE LIAM WILLIAMS READY FOR BIG RETURN AGAINST CARLSAW AND REMIND LIAM SMITH HE’S BACK ON HIS CASE

Welsh super-welterweight wonder Liam Williams returns from a year in the wilderness next month anxious to renew his rivalry with current WBO World Champion Liam Smith.

The 23 year old from Clydach Vale in the Rhondda Valley loomed as mandatory challenger when Scouser Smith reigned on the domestic throne earlier this year but hand injuries have prevented a salivating British and Commonwealth unifier from coming to fruition.

Suitably mended, the Gary Lockett trained box-fighter intends reminding Smith that he’s chasing his tail when the pair go head-to-head on Frank Warren’s mammoth ‘X-Mas Cracker’ bill at Manchester Arena on December 19th.

‘If a world title shot with Liam Smith was offered to me, I’d take it tomorrow,’ says Williams who hopes to add the vacant British title to his Commonwealth strap when he confronts Paisley’s Kris Carslaw.

‘Liam’s a very classy fighter, I’ve a lot of respect for him and his team but I believe I’m just as good, if not better.

‘I was pretty impressed with the way he FINISHED his world title fight with John Thompson in October but there’s things I saw earlier in the fight that give me confidence that I can open him up.’

‘Beefy’ is a fight I look forward to and believe I will win but I’m in boxing for one reason and that’s to make as much money as I can. As long as I don’t have to wait too long, I’m happy to let it stew while interest builds …..but not for too long!’

Unbeaten in 13 (one technical draw) since entering the pros, aged just 18 back in November 2011, the former six times British junior champion’s Commonwealth coronation came courtesy of a sizzling 168 second demolition of ex ABA champion Michael Lomax in November 2014.

Liam says: ‘To be honest, I expected a far more competitive fight. I let Lomax lead off but he had nothing on his punches so I just went for it.

‘I was on a really good run in 2014, so it’s been very frustrating to have been out since. I’ve had two operations on my right hand – one in December, one in August – and now I’m ready to get back into action again, I can’t wait.”

Besides, the 5ft10 ex-roofer hasn’t been profligating.

‘In the year away, I’ve matured in strength and confidence,’ he insists.

‘There was a stage when I thought I may never fight again so the time out has made me appreciate the sport more and now I’m really enjoying my training.’

The mobile, well schooled ex Team GB squad member dives straight back into the line of fire against Scottish hard case Carslaw who, despite sharing canvas with the likes of Matty Hall, Brian Rose and current continental middleweight king Michel Soro, has never been stopped in an eight year, 27 fight pro career.

‘I think a lot of people underestimate Kris but I certainly aren’t. I’ve been working my ass off every day for three or four months now. I’ve my first baby due on February 10th so that gives me real motivation. It will be great to relax and enjoy myself over Christmas with the British title as a present,” says Williams.

‘Carslaw’s very tough and durable and I’d be surprised if he’s not around for the full 12 rounds. He’s very awkward, very dangerous with his head I hear so I’ll be looking at controlled aggression, keeping my work clean, rather than chasing a knockout.

‘But I expect to win convincingly. I’ve youth on my side plus I’m faster, punch harder and move better. I’m superior in every department. I expect to be challenging Liam Smith inside the next 12 months.’

Frank Warren’s end of year title extravaganza ‘X-Mas Cracker’ is headlined by two massive world title showdowns with WBO World Middleweight Champion Andy Lee defending his title against Billy Joe Saunders and WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Smith making his first title defence against Jimmy Kelly. A staggering SIX further titles are on the line with Mitchell Smith defending his WBO Intercontinental Super-Featherweight title against George Jupp; Paul Butler challenges for the Vacant WBO European Super-Flyweight Championship against Silvio Olteanu; Tommy Langford defends his WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Championship; Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Williams and Kris Carslaw clash with the Vacant British title also on the line; Jack Catterall defends his WBO Intercontinental Super-Lightweight Championship, and Adrian Gonzalez defends his WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Championship. The undercard features Merseyside favourite Derry Mathews in an eight-round contest ahead of his WBO World Lightweight title challenge against Terry Flanagan in February, Indian superstar Vijender Singh and top Manchester prospects Jack Flattley and Dale Coyne.

Daws believes fitness is the key ahead of European title shot on December 5

LONDON (26 NOVEMBER) Carshalton’s Lenny Daws aims to become European super-lightweight champion at the second time of asking on December 5 at the Westcroft Leisure Centre, just a stone’s throw from his home, and is adamant he’ll leave nothing to chance.

The 36-year-old fought for the European title in 2013, when he dropped a controversial 12-round decision to Michele Di Rocco in Italy, but has won five on the spin since and goes into his December 5 contest with Spain’s Ruben Nieto full of confidence.

“I’m over the moon to be getting another shot,” he said. “I knew after the controversial first shot that I’d probably get another opportunity at some point, so long as I kept on winning. To have it in the UK, and have it in my hometown, is just unbelievable, though. It’s an amazing thing.

“When we picked up the EU title in November, we knew what our target was and we knew it wouldn’t be long. I’ve had to stay patient, I’ve had to bide my time, but it’s here now.

“Di Rocco held us up for a while and I knew he didn’t fancy it, but he got his big opportunity and vacated the title, which was great for us.

“It’s down to me now to push on and do the business against Rubeno Nieto. I know he’s going to be a tough opponent. He’s going to come to win. I have to be on my A-game.”

Madrid’s Nieto has won 16 of 17 professional fights, ending eight of them within the scheduled distance, and he too lost a close and contentious decision to Di Rocco in a European title fight last October. The 32-year-old is also, like Daws, a former EU super-lightweight champion, having beaten Jean Pierre Bauwens in 2013 to win the belt.

“I’ve watched a few of his fights,” said Lenny. “I watched his fight with Di Rocco to see how he copes over the 12 rounds. He’s a very busy fighter at times. It will make for a very exciting fight.

“His fight with Di Rocco was fairly close, but, because it took place in Nieto’s country, the scorecards were closer than they should have been. Nieto was put over twice and I can’t see how Di Rocco was only one point up on the scorecards. I just don’t know how they saw it that way. I thought Di Rocco did enough to nick the fight. It wasn’t as close as they made it out to be.”

In a battle of two fighters with extraordinary work-rates and fitness levels, Daws knows his ability to out-throw and out-land Nieto could prove crucial on the night.

“We know I’ve got to be busy and we know I’ve got to be at my best to beat Nieto,” said Daws, 30-3-2 (11 KOs). “And I know I will be.

“He puts a bit of pressure on, he comes forward and he doesn’t like to take a backward step. But that’s about it. Other than that, there’s not much to report.

“Should he change tactics on the night, we’ll suss him out round-by-round and adapt to what he tries to do. I’m sure we’ll be able to work him out fairly quickly.

“We’re expecting him to fight at a high pace and be busy. He’s fighting in my country, so he knows he has to be active and make a statement. He won’t be able to just cruise through the rounds. He knows he’s got to put it on me.

“It will boil down to fitness in the end. As it goes on, I tend to get stronger. I’ve had more 12-round fights than he has and I’ve got experience over him, which should play its part late in the fight. I need to use all the experience I’ve got. He’s only had half the amount of fights I’ve had. I’ll use that to my advantage and make him feel out of his depth.”

*** A limited amount of tickets for Destiny: Daws vs. Nieto are priced at £100 and £40 and can be purchased from the Ticketline on 0844 888 4402 ***

“I am very motivated by this fight and this opportunity,” said Dominguez. “The preparation has been tremendous and I am going to show all of my skills in the ring. I want a world title fight and this is another obstacle in my way.”

Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic but fighting out of Brooklyn, Dominguez looks to finish out 2015 with his undefeated record intact and 20 pro wins to his name. This would mark three straight wins in 2015 after he defeated Carlos Rodriguez in February and Mario Macia in May. Prior to 2015, the 29-year-old has picked up victories over German Meraz, Camilo Perez and Jhon Alberto Molina.

The 29-year-old Vicente enters his December 8 bout with two straight victories after knocking out Reynaldo Villamizar and Manuel de los Reyes Herrera. He was undefeated in 26 professional fights before making his U.S. debut in 2012. Born in the Dominican Republic but fighting out of Miami, Vicente will surely be the stiffest challenge yet for the unbeaten Dominguez.

An undefeated prospect out of Santurce, Puerto Rico, Tapia is quickly rising to contender status in the cruiserweight division. Tapia turned pro in 2011 and made his U.S. debut with a first round knockout over Rafael Valenzuela. The 25-year-old has had a busy 2015, picking up four victories inside of the distance including his most recent triumph, a first-round stoppage of Anthony Caputo Smith. He will be opposed by the 33-year-old Wilson out of Philadelphia who enters this fight on a three-bout win streak.

An undefeated prospect out of East Meadow, New York but fighting out of Richmond, Virginia, Aleem comes off of a dominant victory over Oscar Riojas in September. The 22-year-old has racked up three victories in 2015 and will look to end the year in style when he takes on the 24-year-old Galvan.

JAMES DeGALE VS. LUCIAN BUTE, ELEIDER ALVAREZ VS. ISAAC CHILEMBA MAIN EVENT PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Lucian Bute
QUEBEC CITY, Canada (Nov. 25, 2015) – Boldly predicting at least a sixth-round finish against hometown favorite Lucian Bute, a confident James DeGale held his IBF Super Middleweight World Championship belt high over his head during the main event press conference in advance of Saturday’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING event.

“Gonna be six rounds, but it may be three,” DeGale repeated over and over as the fighters concluded their final shots for a packed room of media members on Wednesday at the Le Bonne Entente Hotel. DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs), from London, England, defends against the popular former 168-pound world champion Bute (32-2, 25 KOs), of Montreal, this Saturday from the Vidéotron Centre in Quebec City, live on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

Also participating in the press conference were the two top ranked light heavyweights facing off in the co-feature. WBC’s No. 1-ranked 175-pound fighter Isaac Chilemba (24-2-2, 10 KOs), of Montreal, meets unbeaten, No. 2-ranked Eleider Alvarez (18-0, 10 KOs), of Johannesburg, South Africa, in a light heavyweight world title eliminator. The winner earns the right to become the mandatory challenger for WBC Light Heavyweight World Champion Adonis Stevenson, who is expected to be in attendance on Saturday night.

NOTE: A new opponent was announced on Wednesday for heavyweight Oscar Rivas (17-0, 12 KOs), of Montreal. Joey Abell (31-8, 29 KOs), of Champlin, Minn., will square off with the undefeated heavyweight in the 10-round opening bout of SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME.

Here is what the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING participants had to say on Wednesday:

JAMES DeGALE

“It’s on – fight time is finally here. I feel like a beast.

“They think it’s going to be a boxing match, but it will be a destruction. It will be explosive. Three rounds – place your bets. Trust me.

“I fought the best super middleweight southpaw out there in Andre Dirrell and look what I did to him. Once he feels my power that will be it. I’m going to start fast and throw loads of punches.

“I watched him against Carl Froch, watched him against (Librado) Andrade. He’s great in the center of the ring, but I’m not going to stand there. It won’t be a chess match. I’ll start fast and we’ll see how he takes it.

“Carl exposed him and I’ll finish him. But I don’t care about Carl Froch – he’s old. I’m the new champion. If he wants this belt, he’ll have to come get it.

“I’m an old school fighter – I don’t mind travelling to fight in my opponents’ hometown.

“He was a great champion who has fought some great fighters so I should get kudos when I beat him.”

LUCIAN BUTE

“It’s a great opportunity to fight for my old belt in front of my hometown fans. I think they’ll push me toward the victory. I’m looking forward to becoming world champion again.

“I think he’s the best super middleweight in the world right now, but I’m very confident in myself.

“I had a great camp. I’m just ready to become world champion again.

“I’m healthy, I feel great physically. I have the power to knock him out and the skills to box him.

“Now I have a chance to take back my belt against another English fighter.”

JIM McDONNELL, DeGale’s Trainer

“I’ve tried to come back and do what Lucian has done and it’s not easy. Tune in on Saturday night because what I’ve got is special, and you’ll enjoy what you see.

“It’s tough to win your world title back. I respect Lucian for trying, but James is a world class fighter. He’s ready for everything.”

HOWARD GRANT, Bute’s Trainer

“We did everything we had to do. Lucian is 100 percent prepared to surprise everyone on Saturday. Lucian knows what wearing that belt is all about – he wore it for about five years and he’s coming on Saturday to take it back to where it belongs.”

ELEIDER ALVAREZ

“This is my chance right now. I’m hungry and I’ve done everything I had to do to have the best camp possible for this fight. I’m facing a very intelligent boxer who is technically excellent. But I’ve always said that if I don’t face the best, then I will stay an ordinary boxer. So I must face the best, to be the best.

“When I wake up on Sunday morning, I’m going to be the mandatory challenger for the title.”

ISAAC CHILEMBA

“I had a great camp in Burbank, Calif., training there for six or seven weeks. I believe I should have a shot at Stevenson, and if this is what it takes to get there I will do whatever possible to make it happen. I’m up for the challenge.

“I’m fighting a good fighter and he’s undefeated for a reason. But I’m here to prove that I’m the best light heavyweight in the world. I will put on a good show on Saturday night and everyone will see.

“I have a lot of trials in my life, but I think that’s what makes me stronger and has made me what I am today. I don’t look back on what has happened and I appreciate what life has given me.

“He is a great fighter and I know it won’t be an easy fight. But I’ve put in the work and I’m ready.”

MARC RAMSAY, Alvarez’s Trainer

“This is the major leagues right now. These two are the best light heavyweights in the world. I’ve had the chance to work with Isaac because he has sparred in Montreal with Artur Beterbiev for two weeks. So I know him well. He’s a very complete and complex boxer. But I full trust my fighter to win this fight. It’s his chance.”

BUDDY McGIRT, Chilemba’s Trainer

“I just want to say it’s great to be a part of this event. Mr. DeGale is the champion and he’s coming to Mr. Bute’s country to fight him. That’s what boxing needs. It needs more fights like this to keep it on the rise.

“As far as our fight goes with Mr. Alvarez, I believe that besides (Sergey) Kovalev, these two are the best light heavyweights in the world. And I think they should be fighting for the title and not an eliminator to see who fights the champion.”

About Joe DeGuardia
Star Boxing was formed in 1992 and has been the longest running and most consistent promotional company in New York. Under the direction of its founder and President, Joe DeGuardia, this world renown promotional company continues to promote world champions, top contenders, and highly regarded local prospects in venues throughout the United States and globally.

For the past 4 years, DeGuardia has brought professional boxing back to Long Island and succeeded in a big way! He has sold out 21 straight boxing events at “The Paramount.” While doing so, he has brought unprecedented publicity to the region including bringing in major national television networks such as, HBO, MSG, Showtime, ESPN and NBC Sports to broadcast these events live.

This past year, Star Boxing had its best year since Antonio Tarver, former WBC, WBA, IBF World Champion and co-star of Rocky Balboa, fueled the Star Boxing rise to fame with his KO over Roy Jones Jr. With an ‘eye’ for talent and dedication to promoting future champions, DeGuardia’s efforts have produced amazing success.
Star Boxing proudly showcased 2 World Champions in one night in June 2014 when Demetrius Andrade, defended his WBO Jr. Middleweight Championship and Long Island’s own, Chris Algieri won the WBO Jr. Welterweight Championship. Both fights were televised live on HBO. Then, in November 2014 DeGuardia built on that success and, to the delight of Long Island fans, placed Chris Algieri in a mega match against boxing legend and current WBO Welterweight Champion, Manny Pacquiao. The fight took place at the Venetian Macao, across the world in China and was telecast on PPV.

DeGuardia’ s success in Long Island is typical of the man’s character. It is said: ‘Champions are defined as those who reach the pinnacle of their chosen field.’ Joe DeGuardia has exceeded this definition, turning the pursuits of his passions into repeated success stories.

Born and bred in the Bronx, DeGuardia excelled in school and sport. DeGuardia boxed competitively since the age of five and started competing in organized boxing tournaments at the age of nine. Through the years, DeGuardia won numerous titles in boxing, including the coveted NY Golden Gloves Championship in 1988. Consistent with his ability to master separate fields simultaneously, DeGuardia won that Golden Gloves Championship while graduating at the top of his class at Hofstra Law School.

After law school, DeGuardia was a prosecutor in the District Attorney’s office, and ultimately founded a highly regarded law firm that has been repeatedly recognized for its exemplary service.

Notwithstanding his work as a lawyer, DeGuardia always remained professionally active in the boxing world. True to his abilities, DeGuardia excelled in boxing while succeeding in his legal endeavors. In the ring, the courtroom, the office or the classroom, DeGuardia has proven to be a true Champion time and time again.

Though the years, DeGuardia has promoted numerous boxing stars and world champions and has been recognized as a leader among his peers. In fact, the United States Senate has called upon DeGuardia’ s expertise and testimony while formulating landmark legislation pertaining to the boxing industry. In addition, DeGuardia was elected by his peers as the President and Board Member of the Boxing Promoters Association, a position he has held since its inception. In addition, in 2013, DeGuardia was honored by the Veteran Boxers Association via unanimous vote with its HIGHEST Award for Lifetime Dedication and Achievement. Joe was also inducted November 9th 2013 into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame. In September 2013 Suffolk County NY recognized, via official proclamation, DeGuardia’ s “significant contributions towards the enhancement of (Suffolk, NY ) region and the betterment of its residents” through the national exposure, economic activity of Star Boxing events and the positive role model that DeGuardia represents.

AWE–A Wealth of Entertainment– CONTINUES IN TELEVISING BOXING’S MOST EXCITING MOMENTS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE

AWE Live Boxing
San Diego, CA – November, 25, 2015 -This past Saturday, Anthony Crolla realized a lifetime dream as he became the WBA Lightweight champion with a stunning body shot 5th round knockout over defending champion Darleys Perez.

Just before that, Arthur Abraham defended the WBO Super Middleweight title with a split decision over Martin Murray.

Crolla – Perez, which took place in Manchester, England and Abraham – Murray, which originated from Hanover, Germany highlighted a split site championship doubleheader on AWE- A Wealth of Entertainment.

The two continued a string of high quality world title bouts broadcasted on AWE.

“This was a great kickoff to a great day of boxing,”said AWE president, Charles Herring.

“To show two high-quality world title bouts from two different countries fits into what we want to give the fans and that is the best boxing throughout the world.”

Crolla landed the perfect paralyzing shot that ended the fight and sent the Manchester Arena into a frenzy.

“This is what I have dreamt about since I was a kid,” said Crolla. “To achieve it, well, it is going to take a long time to sink in – I’m absolutely made up. I couldn’t have picked a better setting to have achieved my dream, all my family and friends were in the arena and the fans were incredible.

“The people who have been with me from day one were all there and I am so happy to have done it for them too. It’s a tough time of the year for people to dip into their pockets and pay for tickets so I am grateful to them and I hope they had a great night.

“It’s just under a year since the attack and all that has been well-documented, I promised myself when I was laying on that hospital bed that I would come back stronger than ever and that’s what I have done.

“I knew after a few rounds that he was feeling the pace and he made a few noises when I hit him with some shots, he was sharp though and he was hitting harder than he did last time, I took a few stupid shots early on but I thought I would get to him and it paid off. I felt confident before the fight that I could get him out of there.

“That’s the best body shot I’ve thrown in my career. I was touching him up top and I knew as soon as he went down that he was going to struggle to bet the count. He was sat down for a few minutes after the decision so it caught him perfectly, I’ll look forward to watching it back again and again.

“I am capable of more than that – it was a good finish but it wasn’t a great performance.”

Murray seemed to be more active fighter and landed some big shots throughout the fight. In round eleven, Murray was deducted a point for holding which seemed like it could have been a deciding factor in the close battle but it did not come into play as Abraham won the debated decision by tallies of 116-111, 115-112 while Murray took a card 115-112.

“Obviously I’m gutted,” said Murray. “I really thought it was my night and when the final bell went – even though we were in Germany – I still thought I had it. I still thought I had done enough. When they said it was a split decision even then I still thought I’d got it.

“I know I’m too good to retire but the way I am feeling now, what can I do? It was my fifth shot. I just can’t keep doing this. I just can’t keep doing it to my family.”

Boxing fans can enjoy this amazing card on AWE available on AT&T U-Verse, ch 147 and 1147 in HD, Verizon FiOS TV, ch 169 and 669 in HD, and numerous regional cable providers across the nation. Please check www.awetv.com for boxing updates.

PETER QUILLIN, JESUS CUELLAR, JONATHAN OQUENDO & CHRIS ALGIERI MEDIA WORKOUTS QUOTES

Peter Quillin
BROOKLYN (Nov. 25, 2015) – After hosting separate Coast-to-Coast media workouts in Miami and Marina del Rey, Calif., Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, Jesus Cuellar, Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo and Chris Algieri spoke to the media about their respective showdowns next Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, live on SHOWTIME.

Quillin, Oquendo and Algieri held their media workout at the 5th Street Gym in Miami while Cuellar hosted media at CMC Pro Boxing Gym in Marina del Rey.

Quillin headlines the Dec. 5 show when he takes on WBA Middleweight World Champion Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs. Cuellar and Oquendo square-off in a battle for Cuellar’s WBA Featherweight World Title while Algieri anchors SHOWTIME EXTREME coverage when he takes on Erick Bone. Coverage on SHOWTIME starts at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT while SHOWTIME EXTREME begins at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, start at $50, not
including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center.
The Algieri fight is promoted in association with Star Boxing.

Here is what the fighters had to say Tuesday:

PETER QUILLIN, Undefeated Former Middleweight World Champion

“This has been one of the most inspirational camps that I’ve had in my career. I’m around great people. I’m in the best shape of my life and as humble as possible. We’re going into this fight with nothing but confidence.

“I’m mentally and spiritually strong. I’ve been in 33 of these fights in my career. Every one of those guys has said they’re going to beat ‘Kid Chocolate’ but no one has beaten me. I’ve been in with a lot of different guys and I’m yet to be beat.

“I’m humble and blessed to be on this platform. I hope that I can inspire those who want to get to where I’m at. I’ve been in this place before. I’ve been at the top for a while and I’m going to stay here. My view of myself has never changed and that’s why I continue to win.

“It’s important for my journey and my team to get this win. We’ve put a lot of blood and sweat into this and it would mean everything for it to pay off with a victory. All this hard work has to go towards something.

“I don’t have a prediction for fight night. It’s up to Daniel Jacobs to determine that — because I’m here to win.”

JESUS CUELLAR, WBA Featherweight World Champion

“Training camp has been going great. I spent my first four weeks of camp in Argentina and then the past seven weeks I have been training in Los Angeles. My mindset in this camp hasn’t changed at all now that I am defending my title for the first time.

“Jonathan Oquendo comes from a lower division and has fought great competition. As long as I come in prepared for this fight, Oquendo is just another opponent and doesn’t bother me. I know what I am capable of accomplishing in this fight.

“I am blessed to be on such a prestigious card and I am honored to be a part of it. That’s why training camp has been so long, I must be completely prepared.

“There is no difference to me in winning the interim belt versus the title. When I first won the interim belt I considered myself a champion. To me, I’ve always been a champion.

“I didn’t expect to be fighting Jonathan Oquendo, but they mentioned my name and I want to fight the best fighters out there. I will fight any of the best fighters in the division.

“I know that there are five great champions in this division, and I will fight any of them.

“After the Oquendo fight I hope to fight one more time at 126 against a big-name fighter and then I will move up to 130 pounds. I will fight anyone in the featherweight division.

“The fact that I am the only current champion from Argentina doesn’t affect me. I knew that I would be a world champion since a young age and that’s why I train so hard.

“Growing up in Argentina was very difficult. I am one of eight siblings and the only one who is a boxer. My dad first introduced me to boxing because he was a professional fighter in Argentina. I have been in the gym since I was six years old.

“Since I won the title people have definitely begun to recognize me more in Argentina. I have been known since I was on the Argentinean National Team, but winning the title helped my recognition in the country.

“My nickname is ‘El Forastero’ because that is the name of my horse in Argentina. Besides boxing, I have always been interested in riding horses.”

JONATHAN OQUENDO, Featherweight Contender

“Cuellar is a very strong fighter. He’s a warrior in the ring, so I’m preparing myself for a very tough fight. I’m getting ready for his aggressive style.

“This is a great opportunity for me. Fighting in New York, with the great Puerto Rican fan base is wonderful and I am not going to disappoint them.

“I’ve been here in Florida for a month training and I’ll be heading up to New York on December 1. My plan is to go back to Puerto Rico after I win this fight and become a world champion.

“I’m very relaxed. I believe I am going to win this fight. I want to follow in the footsteps of the other great world champions from Puerto Rico.”

CHRIS ALGIERI, Former Super Lightweight World Champion

“Training camp has been fantastic. It’s been a productive five weeks with John David Jackson and we’re ready to roll into this fight. We’ve been working non-stop since the Amir Khan fight and I’m in great shape.

“Bone is a scrappy guy who will come in shape. This is his world title fight. He’s going to come as prepared as possible. I have to go out there and control the fight with my skill level and intelligence.

“I love fighting at Barclays Center. I’ve had some of my best performances there and I plan to do it again and keep it rolling into 2016.

“I’m going to go out there and show winning form. I’m going to use my experience to dominate the fight.”

Undefeated prospect Toka Kahn-Clary Graduates to 10-round fighter

CRANSTON, RI (November 25, 2015) – After his impressive second-round stoppage of Sergio “Cuatito” Lopez (19-10-1, 13 KOs) last Friday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, undefeated blue-chip featherweight prospect Toka “T-Nice” Kahn-Clary (17-0, 11 KOs) has officially graduated from an eight to ten-round fighter.

“”My performance was good,” Kahn-Clary looked back on his knockout of Lopez. “I didn’t do anything to make it a difficult fight. I was a little concerned that my opponent came in overweight (128 lbs. contract weight but Lopez weighed 132.2 lbs.), but I didn’t think too much of it. I really wanted to go four or five rounds for some more experience, but I put him down in the second round with a right hook, and took him out. (Lopez was unable to answer the bell for the third round.)

(L-R) Toka Kahn-Clary and referee Jay Nady

“I’m definitely ready for 10-rounders. (Head trainer) Peter (Manfredo, Sr.) always has me doing a lot of conditioning work. We sparred a lot of rounds for eight-round fights, so I’ve been ready for 10-round fights. I won’t be fighting again until next year, but I’ll be back in the gym next Monday.”

A decorated American amateur who had a 131-11 record, highlighted by a gold-medal performance at the 2010 National Golden Gloves Tournament, Kahn-Clary passed on a shot to make the 2016 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team, turning pro three years ago.

(L-R) – Head trainer Peter Manfredo, Sr. & Toka Kahn-Clary

“I think Toka made a big statement and so did Top Rank (Kahn-Clary’s promoter),” Manfredo added. “They’re so high on him that they want to put him in a big fight. I told them to give us a 10-round fight first, maybe in January or February, and then we can talk about him fighting a top guy. There’s no rush; he’s only 23.

“Toka’s really maturing. He still doesn’t have ‘man strength’ but he’s getting there. He always works hard. He spars hard with bigger guys. He doesn’t just beat up a sparring partner, he beats up the gym, three or four fighters a session. And most of the time he’s sparring bigger guys and using big gloves.”

Born in Liberia, the 23-year-old Kahn-Clary is a rising star with lofty expectations. “I want to compete at the top level,” he explained. “Next year, I will keep working hard and hopefully fight some decent named opponents. I’m not ready for the top guys in my division, not yet, but I’ll be there in another year.”

Long dominant in the heavyweight division, three-time champ Klitschko won his first title belt in 2001. He has a sterling championship bout record of 25-2 and is on a 22-fight victory streak since his loss to Lamon Brewster in 2004. FLANAGAN AND MATHEWS COLLIDE IN ALL-BRITISH WORLD TITLE SHOWDOWN

WBO World Lightweight Champion Terry Flanagan and arch rival Derry Mathews will clash in a massive all-British blockbuster showdown on Saturday 13th February, 2016, at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

Manchester star Flanagan will make the second defence of the title against Liverpool ace Mathews with plenty of pride and honour at stake plus a bit of revenge thrown in the mix in the potential thriller.

It’s the second red-hot Manchester v Liverpool clash in the space of a few months following hot on the heels of Liam Smith’s WBO World Super-Welterweight title defence against Jimmy Kelly next month in Manchester – the first world title fight between the two cities in 82-years. This time it pits Manchester City hero Flanagan against Anfield favourite Mathews.

Flanagan is in top form and is coming off the back of a devastating performance in October when he smashed his mandatory challenger Diego Magdaleno inside two rounds at the Manchester Arena in a career best performance to claim his position as the world’s top 135lb fighter.

Undefeated in 26 fights, “Turbo” is known for the relentless pace he sets from the first bell and throws powerful combination from his southpaw stance that opponents can’t handle. The 26-year-old from Ancoats aims to make another big statement with a powerful performance.

He said, “It’s a fight he’s wanted and I’ve wanted so now lets get down to business on Saturday 13th February at the Echo Arena and settle who’s the best, which I know will be me. I’m more than confident in winning so I’ve got not problem heading into his backyard and beating him in front of his home fans. I’ve got massive support in Liverpool as well so I’ll have some of the crowd behind me. I’m not writing Mathews off as he’s a good and experienced fighter, he’s held a version of the world title and he’ll rise to the fight against me. Following on from the great win against Magdaleno, I’m looking to make another big statement against Mathews. His style is made for me and I can see myself breaking him down from the start and getting the stoppage.”

Mathews has been gunning for revenge against Flanagan ever since a Prizefighter tournament loss to him in October 2012 and was so intent on facing him that he vacated his Interim WBA World title that he won against Tony Luis in April in order to secure the WBO World title challenge.

“Dirty” Derry is renown for his brand of fighting: all-out war. The 32-year-old has been involved in domestic thrillers against new WBA World Champion Anthony Crolla (twice) and Gavin Rees and believes he will get his revenge in his hometown. And the Kop hero is lifted by Liverpool’s 4-1 thrashing of Man City last Saturday in the Premier League.

He said, “Flanagan is a great champion, but I’ll have to bring his brief reign to an end. It’s a fight that I know I’ll win, it’s not going to be easy, he’s a good fighter, but I know I can beat him. The fire is in my belly for this one and I’m hungry to win and prove that I’m the best. He holds a win over me, but that was just over three rounds, now I’m going to take him deep into the trenches over the twelve rounds and lets see how he reacts when it’s really put on him. I will give him absolute nightmares and my tactics will be spot on to get the stoppage. It’s going to be an electric atmosphere in the Echo Arena and I can’t wait for it. Liverpool are in great form with their win over Man City and I’m going to bring a second world title back to Merseyside. Revenge will be sweet when I win the world title.”

Promoter Frank Warren is thrilled to begin 2016 with this cracking world title showdown between Flanagan and Mathews. He said, “You can’t beat an all-British world title fight for rivalry and passion and Flanagan versus Mathews has it all plus revenge which adds more spice to the fight. Flanagan is the world champion and he showed how ferocious he can be when he destroyed Magdaleno in what was for me one of the best performances by a defending British world champion in many years. He’s going to be up against it with Mathews who’s got the experience to cause Flanagan plenty of problems and he’s certainly fired up for the fight with so much riding on the outcome for the winner and the loser.”

Tickets will go on sale on Monday 30th November with further details to follow.

JOSHUA PREDICTS A CLASSIC BETWEEN KLITSCHKO AND FURY

Anthony Joshua MBE believes Tyson Fury will attack Wladimir Klitschko from the opening bell in their World Heavyweight title clash – but that the champion will hold on to his titles, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Klitschko defends his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts against the unbeaten Manchester man on Saturday night in Dusseldorf, with Fury gunning to dethrone the Ukrainian, who laces them up in his 28th World title fight.

Joshua has his own big night on Sky Sports Box Office on December 12 when he headlines a blockbuster night at The O2 against bitter rival Dillian Whyte for the British and Commonwealth titles – but the Olympic gold medal hero will be glued to the action from Germany this weekend, and expects a great fight between the pair.

“It will be a great fight and it’s brilliant for boxing both in Britain and on a World stage,” said Joshua. “Tyson and Wladimir are two very different personalities which makes it even more interesting for the neutral. The result is difficult to call, both have knock outs on their record and anything can happen in heavy weigh boxing.

“The fight will be action packed right from round one. I think Fury will come out with nothing to lose, his style is to throw a lot of punches but ultimately I think Klitschko’s class will shine through and he will win.”

WARRINGTON FACES UNBEATEN JORGE SANCHEZ ON DECEMBER 12

Josh Warrington will defend his WBC International Featherweight title against Jorge Sanchez at The O2 in London on December 12, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Leeds favourite Warrington makes his second defence of the title he won in April against Dennis Tubeiron, having shutout Australian Joel Brunker for the strap in Yorkshire in September.

Warrington will face a stiff test to end his year on a high as the unbeaten Panamanian, known as ‘El Bufalo’ heads to London to take the title away from the champion and record a tenth win inside the distance in his 16th pro outing.

A showdown with Welsh IBF king Lee Selby is the target for Warrington in 2016, and the 25 year old says the pressure is on to end the year in impressive fashion.

“Sanchez will be my fourth fight of the year and I want to end 2015 with a big statement in London,” said Warrington. “The fights with Tubeiron and Brunker in Leeds were tough ones and I am sure this will be a really hard fight – but it’s on a massive Box Office card that will be getting huge attention, so I need to put in a top performance.

“Selby beat Brunker at The O2 and then won his World title there against Evgeny Gradovich, so it’s a good venue for me to show that I am coming for his title in 2016.”

Warrington’s clash with Sanchez is part of a stacked bill at The O2 where bitter Heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua MBE and Dillian Whyte clash for the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles.

Chris Eubank Jr and Spike O’Sullivan meet in a final eliminator for the WBA World Middleweight title, Kevin Mitchell meets Ismael Barroso for the WBA Interim Lightweight title with the winner facing newly crowned WBA supremo Anthony Crolla, Liverpool Cruiserweight favourite Tony Bellew faces Mateusz Masternak, while Luke Campbell MBE also features.

Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte is SOLD-OUT – visit http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ to get your hands on tickets.

StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua MBE.
