SEASONED FIGHTER JAYSON VELEZ OF PUERTO RICO WILL FIGHT MEXICO’S DANIEL RAMIREZ IN THE HEADLINING EVENT FOR THE NEXT INSTALLMENT OF LA FIGHT CLUB ON JUNE 4

LOS ANGELES (May 14) – After another sellout crowd at the May 7 installment of LA FIGHT CLUB, boxing’s popular new series on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes is back and heating up as summer approaches. On Thursday, June 4, The Belasco Theater will once again host another sizzling edition as undefeated top prospect Jayson Velez (22-0-1, 16 KOs) of Caguas, Puerto Rico will battle it out against Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico’s Daniel “Huracan” Ramirez (11-1, 5 KOs), in hopes of continuing his winning streak in a 10-round featherweight bout. Velez and Ramirez replace the previously announced Ronny Rios who had to withdraw due to injury.

“In response to high demand, LA FIGHT CLUB is back June 4 at The Belasco Theater for the fourth time and will feature another card of thrilling fights from start to finish,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions. “These sellouts crowds demonstrate that boxing is not dead. The fans want to be entertained; they want to see fighters give it their all and battle it out in the ring for the win, and that is what LA FIGHT CLUB continues to deliver every month.”

Opening the telecast, undefeated Angeleno and local favorite Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (9-0, 9 KOs) returns to The Belasco Theater for his second appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB in a six-round super featherweight bout and Pablo Rubio of Whittier, Calif. will make his professional debut in a four-round super bantamweight non-televised bout. Opponents will be announced soon.

Hailing from Caguas, Puerto Rico, Jayson Velez made his professional debut in 2007 and his U.S. debut in his ninth fight in June 2009 triumphing over Jesus Bayron at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In 2012, Velez returned to Madison Square Garden to face Salvador Sánchez II, winning the WBC Silver Featherweight Championship. Velez has continued his winning streak through 2014, most recently taking down Miguel Soto in a second round technical knockout victory in April 2014 in Puerto Rico. Velez’s debut at LA FIGHT CLUB marks his first fight of 2015.

A professional since 2012, Daniel “Huracan” Ramirez of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico is looking to add another win to his record when he faces Velez on June 4. Fighting in the U.S. in all of his 2014 bouts facing top prospects Guy Robb, Aaron Garcia, and Eric Hunter, the Mexican fighter is looking to impress in his first fight of 2015.

One of the most exciting prospects in the sport, 19-year-old super featherweight Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez has thrilled fans by winning each of his professional bouts by knockout, seven in the first round. Fresh from a sixth-round stoppage of Julio Sarinana at The Belasco Theater on March 6 that forced him to rise from the canvas for the first time to win, LA’s Gonzalez always brings the thrills on fight night.

Pablo Rubio, from Whittier, Calif., is set to make his professional debut at the June 4 edition of LA FIGHT CLUB. Rubio fought in the 2014 USA Boxing Junior and Youth Open in the youth lightweight class at 123 lbs. He has sparred with the likes of undefeated professional boxer Leo Santa Cruz. On June 4, Rubio is determined to make a strong start to his professional career and a name for himself with the win over his opponent.

LA FIGHT CLUB: Velez vs. Ramirez is a 10-round featherweight bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona Extra and Mexico – Live It To Believe It!. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., and the first bout begins at 5:30 p.m. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes broadcast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.

The LA FIGHT CLUB is a monthly boxing series that takes place on the first Thursday of each month. It will showcase the brightest stars in the sport and present these exciting matchups in a nightclub atmosphere with an original setup. The boxing ring will be set on the main floor of The Belasco Theater with on-camera standing room for fans in front of the ring similar to a concert pit, as well as reserved balcony and floor seats. Los Angeles’ own DJ Ray of Big Boy’s Neighborhood will spin music during the fights and fans will be able to dance and mingle with the fighters when the venue converts into a night club, in a VIP experience not matched by any promoter in the industry.

DAVID LEMIEUX SET TO TAKE ON HASSAN N’DAM FOR THE IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ON JUNE 20

David Lemieux
LOS ANGELES (May 14)- Eye of the Tiger Management and Golden Boy Promotions in collaboration with Evenko, announced yesterday via press conference the fight between Quebec power puncher David Lemieux(33-2, 31 KOs) and number one contender Hassan N’Dam (31-1,18 KOs) for the IBF Middleweight World Championship on Saturday, June 20. Live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada and on Canadian Pay-Per-View, the card is set to showcase an exciting night of boxing with four additional championship belts on the line and an undercard featuring local Quebec talent.

David Lemieux first captured the attention of the boxing world during his impressive win against Gabriel “The King” Rosado in Brooklyn, New York December 2014. When the IBF Middleweight title became vacant, the confrontation between the Lemieux, who is currently ranked fourth in the world by the IBF, and number one contender N’Dam became eminent. This will be Lemieux’s first fight with Golden Boy Promotions since signing an exclusive promotional contract with the company in January 2015.

“David Lemieux vs. Hassan N’Dam will be an action packed fight the fans in Montreal will be excited to see on June 20, as David faces off against the dangerous N’Dam for the coveted vacant IBF Middleweight Title,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President and Founder of Golden Boy Promotions. “Hassan and David are both elite fighters in the middleweight division, both former and current title holders with fighting styles that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. This is just the kind of fight boxing needs to have; the fans want action in the ring and both David and Hassan are sure to deliver that.”

“It was really important for my team and I to bring this fight here to Quebec,” said David Lemieux. “The fans here have supported me from the beginning of my career and for that I am extremely grateful. I want to live this significant moment of my career with Quebecers and will do all that I can for them to be proud of me. I am ready to offer the very best of myself. Those close to me and my fans will see all the blood they want!”

“I’m thrilled to be fighting for the middleweight championship,” said Hassan N’Dam. “I’ve very thankful to King Sports for making this happen and I look forward to fighting in Montreal and leaving with the title.”

The undercard will feature some of the most talented boxers in Quebec, including Dierry Jean (28-1, 20 KOs), Schiller Hyppolite (15-1, 10 KOs), Ghislain Maduma (16-1, 10 KOs), Steven Butler (11-0, 9 KOs), Mian Hussain (11-0, 6 KOs), Ayaz Hussain (5-0, 3 KOs), Yves Ulysse Jr. (6-0 , 4 KOs) and Mathieu Germain (1-0). Jean, Hyppolite and Butler will fight respectively for the NABF Lightweight title, the WBC World Francophonie Light Heavyweight title and the North American Youth Super Welterweight title.

For the president of Eye of the Tiger Management, Camille Estephan, it was imperative that the card of the evening is entirely composed of Quebec natives.

“We believe that the province is full of talented and promising athletes who are just waiting for a chance to demonstrate their abilities,” said Estephan. “Our mission is to ensure that our Quebec boxers are achieving the greatest honors. Join us in our conquest.”

Tickets, which will be offered for as low as $70 (CAD) (taxes and service charges included), go on sale Saturday, May 16 at www.evenko.ca and at the Bell Centre box office. For further information, please visit us at and www.eottm.com, www.goldenboypromotions.com, www.evenko.ca or call 1-855-310-2525. Currently ranked in the top ten middleweight fighters by the IBF, WBO, and WBA, Lemieux is coming off of his eighth consecutive win and seventh consecutive knockout against Gabriel “King” Rosado in a headlining bout at Barclays Center on December 2014. Lemieux’s previous bout against Fernando Guerrero for the then vacant NABF middleweight title resulted in a dominating win, knocking down Guerrero in the first round, second round, third round and finally a technical knockout in the fourth round. Now David Lemieux is certainly seen as a serious contender against the elite of the middleweight division.

Number one contender Hassan N’Dam of Pantin, Seine-Saint-Denis, France is a fierce fighter known for his speed and endurance in the ring. A professional since 2004, N’Dam has already accumulated the WBA International Middleweight Title and the WBA World Middleweight title beating out seasoned fighters Omard Gabriel Weis and Giovanni Lorenzo for his shot at a world title. Having lost via unanimous decision to Peter Quillin for the WBO World Middleweight Title in 2012, the top contender is ready for prove that he has the makings for of a world champion when he faces David Lemieux for the vacant IBF Middleweight World title.

David Lemieux vs. Hassan N’Dam is a 12-round fight for the IBF Middleweight World Championship presented by Eye of the Tiger Management and Golden Boy Promotions in association with Evenko. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET and the first bell rings at 6:45 p.m. ET. The live PPV telecast airs at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT.

Lundy going back to his roots to prepare for next bout

hank-lundy_harney
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 14th, 2015) – From shopping for rings to stepping inside of one, 2015 figures to be a prominent chapter in the story of Philadelphia’s “Hammerin’” Hank Lundy.

Six days after he walks down the aisle to tie the knot with his longtime fiancée, Valerie, Lundy will step back into the ring to face super lightweight contender Mauricio Herrera in the 10-round main event of Golden Boy Promotions’ July 11th show in Los Angeles live on HBO Latino.

As his life outside of the ring changes, Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) hopes his current career path can take a similar turn for the better. Eight years into a career that has featured its share of ups and down, the 31-year-old Lundy is at crossroads coming off a narrow loss to Thomas Dulorme in his HBO debut in December.

Still ranked No. 9 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) among 140-pounders, Lundy knows a big win on national television puts him right back in the championship mix, a prime spot for a fighter who’s no stranger to the big stage.

“I’m eager to show the world they haven’t seen the best of me yet,” Lundy said.

On the surface, Lundy is the same brash, outspoken, take-on-all-comers boxer cut from the same cloth as almost every other fighter out of Philadelphia, but he’s matured in recent years. Before he and his fiancée decided to get married, they bought their first home together. Lundy admits he’s now a “homebody” who doesn’t get out much, instead focusing on family and fighting.

In addition to the not-so-subtle domestic changes, he’s gone back to his roots, reuniting with longtime trainer Charles Ramey, who guided Lundy through his amateur career and his first 16 fights as a professional before the two parted ways.

“I had to dig down deep and go back to where it all started,” Lundy said. “Most fighters, they like to go around and work with different trainers. When I had Charles, he brought out the best in me.

“He was hard on me, but he knows what I’m capable of and that’s what I like. He’s one hell of a boxing coach. I’m just ready to get in the ring and show the world the real ‘Hammerin’’ Hank.”

Asked why he and Ramey split up in the first place, Lundy admits success got to his head – the knockout wins, the accolades, the numberous appearances on ESPN.

“When you’re coming up in the boxing game and you get a little fame, everyone in is in your ear,” he said. “You get a little arrogant. I got big-headed. I’m not going to lie, Charles and I are both stubborn. Neither one of us wanted to come to the table and talk, so I put my little bundle on the stick and left.

“But I’ll say it like this: At the end of the day, the person who started you off knows what makes you tick. They know how hard to drive you, what buttons to push. Sometimes another coach might change things and you think it’s for the better, but they never learn you.”

With Ramey back in his corner, familiarity – or lack thereof – won’t be an issue when Lundy squares off with Herrera (21-5, 7 KOs), a tough, battle-tested veteran and former world champion in the lightweight division with wins over Ruslan Provodnikov and Johan Perez in addition to a 12-round battle with current WBC and World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight champ Danny Garcia on his resume. He’s also ranked No. 7 among 140-pounders in the WBA.

But don’t mistake Lundy’s mature, family-man exterior as a subsequent lack of hunger, or taming of the beast, so to speak.

“I’m still ‘Mr. Excitement,’” he says matter-of-factly. “I’m ‘Mr. ESPN.’ Every time ‘Hammerin’’ Hank is in the ring you know he’s going to put on a show, so there’s no pressure.

“Before you had Adrien Broner, it was ‘Hammerin’’ Hank,” he continued. “It was me first before you saw those guys. Ricky Hatton. It was me doing all of that.

“Mauricio Herrera, I like him, because he reminds me of me, ‘Hammerin’’ Hank, but on fight night it’s search and destroy. I’m going to have to show him once again y’all messed up fighting ‘Hammerin’’ Hank! I know he gave Danny Garcia problems, but y’all forgot ‘Hammerin’’ Hank can box his ass off. And not only that, I can punch.

“You’re going to see some great boxing skills. He’s going to see what it’s like when you have a guy in front of you that can do the same thing and do it even better.”

Lundy promises “fireworks” in July with Ramey back in his camp, and he typically delivers when the pressure’s on. The fight against Dulorme was all action from the opening bell, with Lundy picking himself up off the canvas following a first-round knockdown and eventually hurting Dulorme in the later rounds before losing a split decision. More importantly, it was a learning experience he hopes will serve as a reference point when he steps back into the HBO spotlight in July.

“In that fight, I felt I got away from my game plan,” Lundy said. “I wanted to show the world the real ‘Hammerin’’ Hank, but everybody knows I’m a boxer and a puncher. I won a lot of fans, but that wasn’t the real me. I’m back to the old ‘Hammerin’’ Hank.”

Deontay Wilder To Defend WBC Heavyweight Title On June 13 Against Eric Molina, Live on SHO At 9p ET/6p PT

Deontay Wilder
Birmingham, Ala. (May 14, 2015) – Undefeated Heavyweight World Champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs), of Tuscaloosa, Ala., will make the first defense of his title when he faces Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina (23-2, 17 KOs), of Raymondville, Texas, in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® on Saturday, June 13, live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala.

In the co-feature, undefeated Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza (19-0, 12 KOs), of Caguas, Puerto Rico, will be opposed by Andrey Klimov (19-1, 9 KOs), of Klimovski, Russia, in a 12-rounder for the vacant IBF Junior Lightweight World Championship.

The 6-foot-7 Wilder captured the heavyweight world championship with an impressive 12-round unanimous decision over defending titleholder Bermane Stiverne on Jan. 17 on SHOWTIME. It was the first time the hard-hitting Wilder, 29, had fought more than four full rounds and the only time in his seven-year career that one of his fights went to the judges. By winning, he became the first undefeated American to win a heavyweight title since Michael Moorer in 1994.

Molina, a 6-foot-5 southpaw, possesses punching power that commands respect and makes him a dangerous proposition for any opponent. He has won five in a row, three straight by knockout, including an eighth-round TKO over Raphael Zumbano Love on the Wilder-Stiverne undercard. If triumphant, the aggressive-minded 32-year-old would become the first Mexican-American heavyweight world champion.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Bruno Event Team are on sale now. Tickets start at only $25 with the best seats in the house going for $200. VIP packages are also available. To purchase tickets fans should visit alabamatitlefight.com. Tickets are selling fast and a sellout is anticipated.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to defend my heavyweight championship in my home state,’’ Wilder said. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time.

“It was one of my dreams to win a world title. This was my other dream to be able to defend it before all my fans in Alabama. I can’t wait until fight night to step into the ring and see the whole state coming out to support me.”

“I remember just a few months ago watching Deontay get ready for the biggest fight of his life,” Molina said. “I thought to myself, ‘someday, that’ll be me.’ I stared with envy not knowing that a few months later I’d get my turn.

“Winning the heavyweight world championship is my dream. Just as it was Deontay’s dream, it’s mine now. He had his turn, though it will be short-lived. I will become the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion. Guaranteed. So, champ, come prepared for war. I’m coming to kick some ass.”

“Deontay Wilder is the first American to hold a heavyweight championship in years and one of the most exciting fighters in the division. His homecoming in Birmingham will be electric,’’ promoter Lou DiBella said. “The opening bout will be Jose Pedraza’s opportunity to establish himself as Puerto Rico’s next champion and a rising star. It will be a great night of boxing on SHOWTIME.’’

“We are excited to work with DiBella Entertainment to bring the first ever heavyweight boxing championship to the State of Alabama,” said Gene Hallman, president and CEO of Bruno Event Team, a nationwide leader in sports event management. “Alabama’s Deontay Wilder always puts on a show, so we expect the arena to sell out for this world heavyweight championship.”

“Deontay made an emphatic statement with his performance in January that he is one of the current and future stars of this sport, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back to SHOWTIME for his first title defense, ” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President & General Manager SHOWTIME Sports. “But we all know that one punch can change everything in the heavyweight division and Eric Molina will be coming to Alabama to prove just that.”

ALL ACCESS: Deontay Wilder, which chronicles the champion’s Jan. 24 homecoming parade in Tuscaloosa and his preparation for the upcoming title defense, premieres on Wednesday, June 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Wilder, the first United States-born heavyweight champion since Shannon Briggs won the WBO belt in November 2006, was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. He’s fought in Alabama five times, although the bout on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will mark the first occasion he’s fought outside of Tuscaloosa (four times) or Mobile (once). This will be the first fight in his home state since August 2012.

Wilder started boxing at the age of 21 after his daughter Naieya (pronounced nie-EE-ya) was born with spina bifida. Despite his late start in boxing, Wilder would go on to represent the United States in the 2008 Olympic Games, where he won a bronze medal. He is the last American male boxer to medal in the Olympics.

Until going the distance against Stiverne, Wilder hadn’t come close to putting in a full night’s work since turning pro in November 2008. The then-virtually untested slugger had fought a total of 58 rounds, an average of 1.8 rounds per outing. He’s registered 18 knockouts in the first round, eight in the second.

Molina, who resides in Weslaco, Texas, is a big slugger, rugged and strong. He has good skills and movement and, like Wilder, got a belated start in boxing but has had only two defeats as a professional.

“The Drummer Boy” is on a roll, coming off five consecutive victories. Molina’s matchup with Wilder will be his first shot at a world title.

“MARAVILLA” DOCUMENTARY ON BOXING CHAMP SERGIO MARTINEZ TO PREMIERE on iTunes US, MAY 19, 2015

Sergio_Martinez
New York (May 13, 2015) – “MARAVILLA”, the documentary based on the struggle of middleweight champion Sergio Martinez to reclaim his crown in boxing, will premiere on iTunes US on May 19, 2015. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival (2014), won the “Best Editing Award” at Mar del Plata Film Festival (Argentina), was nominated for “Best Documentary” for the Academy Awards of Argentina (2014), and was selected for the Official Competition at Guadalajara (Mexico, 2014), Lima (Peru, 2014) and Málaga (Spain, 2015) Film Festivals. “MARAVILLA” will also be available on Google Play, YouTube, PlayStation Networks, Vudu, Amazon Video, Xbox and On Demand on major US cable providers on May 19, 2015.

“MARAVILLA” premiered on Netflix USA, Canada and UK on April 1st and it was given four stars (out of five) by more than 22,000 households in only 30 days. “MARAVILLA” has also been the #1 Most Popular Spanish-Language Documentary on IMDB.com for the last two weeks. The film is 50% in English and 50% in Spanish.

Director Juan Cadaveira gains unprecedented access into the world of boxing, revealing actual negotiations, the politics of championship organizations and TV networks, and the vulnerable physical condition of an aging champion. The 80-minute character-driven documentary offers a true inside look at the industry and follows middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez through every step of his battle inside and outside the ring to reclaim the title he rightfully owns.

Along with thrilling footage of Sergio’s mastery inside the ring and the persistent efforts by his team to keep him at the top, the film goes beyond the guts and glory of a common boxing tale. “MARAVILLA” reveals an unforgettable man who uses ambition, adaptability, relentless determination and integrity to navigate through a business that is attempting to control his fate.

The documentary captures the grueling physical and mental demands on Sergio. Viewers are invited into his dressing room, his physical therapy sessions, and into his inner circle. The road to his achievements is shown to be isolating at times and requires a vision far beyond what is considered possible for a man who didn’t pick up boxing gloves until he was over the age of 20.

“MARAVILLA” sheds light on Sergio’s childhood growing up in poverty in Buenos Aires, with personal stories from family members and archival footage and photos from his youth. Sergio reveals his inner self and his battles to successfully overcome disappointment, adversity and neglect.

The film features interviews and testimonials by many international boxing personalities such as Mike Tyson, Don King, Oscar De La Hoya, Bob Arum, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Dan Rafael, and the late WBC president Jose Sulaiman. Those closest to Sergio figure prominently in the film, including his longtime promoter Lou DiBella, advisor Sampson Lewkowicz, trainers and his mother along with other family members.

First-time director Cadaveira shot the film over two years in four countries: Argentina, Spain, Mexico and the United States, and in many different cities, from Quilmes to Las Vegas, via New York, Atlantic City, Los Angeles, and Mexico DF.

“MARAVILLA” is written and directed by Juan Pablo Cadaveira, executive produced by Lou DiBella and Jamin O’Brien and produced by BK Blu Productions and Blue Production Company.

Crolla to battle Perez for WBA Lightweight crown July 18 in England

Darleys Perez will defend the WBA Lightweight title against Anthony Crolla on July 18 in Manchester, England according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

Crolla will get the shot after he was left with a fractured skull after being hit with a concrete slab, a broken ankle and a future in doubt in a confrontation just days before his January attempt at the title against Richar Abril.

“It’s amazing to be back in the ring and fighting for my first world title,” Crolla said. “Lying in my hospital bed after the attack, I didn’t know what the future held. I was just lucky to be alive. But I have worked so hard and had so much support that I have to win that world title on July 18.

“Perez is a great fighter, and I know I am going to have to be at my very best to beat him, but with everything that has happened, it feels like I am destined to win the belt and I will be busting a gut in the gym to be in the best shape I have ever been in on the night to get that belt.”

“Anthony Crolla is a tough boxer, but I know I have what it takes to beat him in style,” Perez said. “I’ve been staying busy since my last win in January. My plan is to travel to England and gain new fans with a devastating victory over their hometown favourite.”

“This has been a roller-coaster six months for Anthony,” said Crolla’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “First, he received the dream news that he would challenge Richar Abril, and then just weeks later his world came crashing down when he suffered life-threatening injuries after trying to apprehend burglars from his neighbor’s property. When we got the news of Anthony’s injuries, it was touch and go whether he would fight again.

“He has shown remarkable strength and bravery and I promised him I would deliver him a shot at the world title in his return.”

Lemieux to battle N’Dam for vacant IBF Middle crown on June 20

David Lemieux
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com. Davod Lemieux will take on Hassan N’Dam for the vacant INF Middleweight title on June 20 in Montreal.

“It was really important for my team and I to bring this fight here to Quebec,” Lemieux said. “(Quebec has) supported me since the very beginning, and for that I am extremely grateful. I want to live this significant moment of my career with Quebecers and will do all that I can for them to be proud of me. I am ready to offer the very best of myself. Those close to me and my fans will see all the blood they want.”

“David Lemieux versus Hassan N’Dam will be an action-packed fight the fans in Montreal will be excited to see on June 20,” Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya said. “Hassan and David are both elite fighters in the middleweight division with fighting styles that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. This is just the kind of fight boxing needs to have. The fans want action in the ring and both David and Hassan are sure to deliver that.”

These fights will be part of an explosive evening headlined by boxing superstar Amir “King” Khan (30-3, 19 KOs)who faces tough New Yorker Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs). Doors at Barclays Center open at 6 p.m. ET.

For group tickets, please call 800-GROUP-BK.

Here are what the fighters had to say Wednesday:

PAULIE MALIGNAGGI

“I know Danny O’Connor pretty well. He’s a good boxer who had a good amateur career. He can be pretty slick and he’s a real intelligent guy. He’s not going to just hand it to you so you have to use your mind against him.

“O’Connor is going to come hungry. With the situation he’s in, he’s really been looking for this opportunity in his career. I expect the hungriest and best possible Danny O’Connor.

“I’m going to go out in the first round see what I’m looking for. I’m not going to go out and expect something from him, but we’ll make adjustments. If I see some of his patterns that I’ve seen on video, then I’ll know what to do. I’m going to look to take apart what’s in front of me.

“Gleason’s Gym is the first place I ever learned to box. I learned to throw a jab in here. I learned to throw a right hand in here. All of my fundamentals came from here. I didn’t have a clue about boxing before I came to Gleason’s. I owe a lot to this gym.

“There was a good six months where I didn’t really care about coming back. I was satisfied. But then I just started to miss being a competitor. I was keeping busy but the competition was missing in my life. Once I got back in the gym and started hitting the bag and I felt good I knew I wanted to get back out there.

“It’s been tough balancing the schedule out with my announcing. It’s a mental challenge to make sure you’re still training despite all the other responsibilities. To me that proves that I still have the passion to fight. I still wanted to train no matter how busy I got.

“I’m thankful to be able to be a part of something really big like this. Sometimes you take a bad loss in your career and you can take a big step back but I’m thankful to have an opportunity to be on a highly elevated show like this, it’s really cool.

“I’d still like to fight for a world title and take on big names. If I could win another title I feel like I can put myself into the position to go into the Hall of Fame as a fighter. I’ve been fighting at a high level since 2006, a good percentage of them have been world class opponents.

“PBC is really amazing, I think it’s great for the sport. It’s going to build up new stars because fighters are going to be on your television constantly. I think people are going to start to really follow it. You’re going to see a lot of different kinds of fights and fighters, there’s something for everybody.”

HEATHER HARDY

“Training camp has been very good, this is probably the biggest fight of my career so far against Noemi Bosques. I’m fighting the number two bantamweight and I’m really excited.

“I haven’t changed my training at all. I go into every fight to win and I always give 100 percent.

“I’m really happy to be back in the ring so quickly. I was winning my last fight and I was ready to knock this girl out, but then the head butt stopped it prematurely. There was an unfinished feeling after the last fight, almost like a sparring session.

“I know I’m facing a tough fighter, she can box but she’s also an aggressive fighter. We’re going to do what we do against every fighter, which is make adjustments.

“Me being on the undercards for these PBC shows has been great for women’s boxing because it’s got a lot of great media attention.

“I love fighting at home. I watched them build Barclays Center and I thought about how much I’d love to fight there. It’s a dream come true. Barclays Center is special.

“I’m still on the steps looking up in my career. There’s a lot more to go. I don’t feel like I’ve reached the highest that I can reach. I’m going to keep fighting and winning and giving the fans a reason to come back.”

ADAM KOWNACKI

“I was born and grew up in Brooklyn so it’s a real treat to fight at Barclays Center. I can’t wait to perform there. It’s going to be an amazing night.

“It’s really a dream come true to be fighting at Barclays Center. I’m so glad it’s finally here. Hopefully one day I’ll be the main event.

“I’ve fought recently in Chicago and Philadelphia, but I’m really excited to be back home and have a lot of people come out to support me.

“I come to fight, if the knockout comes it comes. Hopefully the knockout comes again on May 29.

“I want the fans to keep looking for me, I’m going to get tougher opponents and tougher fights and more exposure that I’m so excited for.

“I bring excitement to the ring. I throw a lot of punches and my defense has improved with every fight.”

ERIC HUNTER KICKS OFF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND AS HE FACES ANTONIO ESCALANTE IN THE HEADLINING BOUT ON MAY 22 AT FANTASY SPRINGS RESORT CASINO

LOS ANGELES (May 13) – Philadelphia’s Eric “The Outlaw” Hunter (19-3, 9 KOs) is set to kick-off Memorial Day Weekend when he faces seasoned contender Antonio Escalante (29-7, 20 KOs) of El Paso, Texas on Friday, May 22 in a 10-round super welterweight bout as the main event for Golden Boy Live on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif.

Added to the action, in the televised opening bout, Chinese heavyweight sensation Taishan (4-0, 2 KOs), will face an opponent yet to be named in a four-round heavyweight opening televised bout. Taishan is fresh off his impressive win against Jamal Woods at Minute Maid Park in Houston on May 9 as part of the undercard for Canelo vs. Kirkland.

Also, added to the non-televised undercard, Antonio Gutierrez (18-0-1, 8 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico will fight in a six-round middleweight bout and Neeco “The Rooster” Macias (8-0, 4 KOs) of Palm Desert, Calif. is scheduled for a six-round welterweight bout. Los Angeles native, Joet Gonzalez will make his second appearance at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio on May 22 in a six-round super bantamweight bout hoping to make air time. Opponents will be announced shortly.

Previously announced, southern California native and unbeaten featherweight Abraham “Chamaco” Lopez (17-0-1, 12 KOs) will face a yet to be named opponent in a 10-round co-main televised event and former IBA and WBC World Champion Mia “The Knockout” St. John will host special meet and greet at the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center prior to the bouts from 6:00 pm to 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for Hunter vs. Escalante are priced at $25, $35 and $45 and are available now for purchase at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.

Hunter vs. Escalante is a 10-round featherweight bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona Extra and Mexico, Live It To Believe It! Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the first bell rings at 5:30 p.m. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes broadcast airs live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

Finally on track to fulfilling the potential so many saw in him, 28-year-old Eric “The Outlaw” Hunter (20-3, 10 KOs) was an alternate on the 2004 United States Olympic team who fought through the ups and downs of the fight game and is now looking to get in the title picture in 2015. Winner of five of his last six bouts, including three straight, the Philadelphia native defeated highly-regarded Rene Alvarado in January and he wants to keep the momentum going on May 22.

Before his professional debut in 2003, Antonio Escalante had a celebrated amateur career, with an impressive record of 40-3 and winning two Golden Glove Championships. Since then, Escalante has faced some of the toughest opponents in the sport, taking on the famed Daniel Ponce De Leon, Rocky Juarez and Leonilo Miranda. 2014 was a busy year for Escalante as he defeated Sammy Venutra in January and faced Miguel Berchelt in October. Now the Texas native is looking to claim a victory when he faces Hunter on May 22.

La Puente, California’s Abraham “Chamaco” Lopez may have suffered a draw against Juan Carlos Martinez in his last appearance at Fantasy Springs in March, but the talented 27-year-old promises to take matters into his own hands this May. To do so, he plans on showing off the knockout power that has led him to 10 knockout wins in three rounds or less once more in front of his Southern California fans.

Hailing from Beijing, seven-foot heavyweight Taishan, has captured the imagination of boxing fans both in China and in his adopted home in California. After turning professional in 2014 and scoring two quick knockouts, the 26-year-old showed that he has what it takes to win over the distance, as he scored a near-shutout victory over Roy McCrary in February of 2015 and had a unanimous victory over Jamal Woods on May 9. M-1 Challenge 58: Fernandes vs. Abdulaev June 6 in Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (May 13, 2015) – Brazilian invader Igor “Chatubinha” Fernandes will battle Russian foe Murad “Hunter” Abdulaev on June 6 for the vacant M-1 Challenge welterweight title, headlining M-1 Challenge 58: Battle in the Mountains 4, at Ingushetia, Russia.

Fernandes (18-6-0, 2 KO/TKO, 13 SUB), who has won his last six fights, will be making his M-1 debut against Abdulaev (14-3-1, 5 KO/TKO, 1 SUB), who is unbeaten in two M-1 Challenge fights.

During the past few years, Fernandes has been too dangerous for many fighters to take on, leaving him inactive for the past 26 months. The gifted welterweight immediately deserved and received a title shot upon signing with M-1 Global.

Abdulaev has won 11 of his last 12 fights. A dangerous striker with a solid ground game, Abdulaev is coming off an impressive knockout win over Daniel Tabera last October at M-1 Challenge 52.

The M-1 Challenge welterweight championship was vacated by Rashid Magomedov who left the promotion.

A pair of potentially explosive featherweight fights have also been announced for M-1 Challenge 58 as American Lee “American Bulldog” Morrison faces Pavel Vitruk, and Antun Racic meets Tural Ragimov.

Morrison (13-5-0, 4 KO/TKO, 4 SUB, fighting out of Okanogon Washington, is out to snap his two-fight losing streak to Ragimov (SUB1 – arm-lock) at M-1 Challenge 49 last June and a five-round decision to defending champion Marat Gufurov for the M-1 Challenge title at M-1 Challenge 47. The physically strong, experienced American fighter is planning a rebound June 6.

Last February at M-1 Challenge 55, Vitruk (12-1-0, 3 KO/TKO, 2 SUB) lost at M-1 Challenge 55 in a battle of unbeaten fighters to Max Coga by way of a third-round submission (choke). The Ukraine native who lives in St. Petersburg, Russia is a Muay Thai specialist.

Racic (17-5-0, 13 SUB) is a young, Croatian prospect who has won his last four fights in a row. He prefers to use his vast arsenal of submission moves. In his last fight, Racic defeated Lemmi Krusic (16-4-0), of Slovenia, this past October.

Ragimov (9-2-0, 4 KO/TKO, 4 SUB) earned a title shot after he defeated Morrison, in which he lost to M-1 Challenge featherweight champion Ivan “Buki” Buchinger last October at M-1 Challenge 52. In the Fight of the Night, Ragimov was stopped by punches in the fourth round, after suffering a fractured and displaced finger on his left hand, as well as torn ligaments in his right hand.

M-1 Challenge 58 will be streamed live in high definition on www.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. Fans may watch all of the action on their computers, as well as on Andriod and Apple smart phones and tablets.

All fights and fighters are subject to change. Additional fights to soon be announced.

Fight Network will air M-1 Challenge 57 live on Cablevision’s Optimum TV, Grande Communications, Shentel Cable and Armstrong Cable in the U.S., as well as nationwide in Canada, Roku devices across North America, and globally in more than 30 countries throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
