Abraham-Stieglitz IV confirmed for July 18 in Halle

arthur_abraham
Arthur Abraham (42-4, 28 KOs) is set to reignite his feud with super middleweight rival Robert Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KOs) on July 18 at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany. The boxers meet for a fourth time, with the WBO crown on the line, following a memorable trilogy of world championship fights.

‘’The battle for super middleweight supremacy continues,’’ said promoter Kalle Sauerland. ‘’I’m hard pressed to think of any other trilogy in modern boxing history that has provided such a high level of drama. For that reason, we go again. On July 18, for an unprecedented fourth time, Arthur and Robert will contest the WBO super middleweight title.’’

Abraham and Stieglitz first met in August 2012, where a points decision earned Abraham the WBO strap. In a March 2013 rematch, Stieglitz got his revenge with a fourth-round technical knockout victory. The belt once again changed hands in March 2014 with Abraham flooring Stieglitz on his way to a split decision win. The stage is now set for a fourth battle between ‘King Arthur’ and his mandatory challenger Stieglitz at Germany’s famous Gerry Weber Stadium.

For the defending champion Abraham, July 18 offers him the opportunity to write the final chapter in his rivalry with Stieglitz. ‘’Robert is mandatory challenger, so of course he deserves his shot,’’ said Abraham. ‘’I’ve enjoyed our rivalry, but like all good things, this must come to an end. The Gerry Weber Stadium will provide the perfect venue for me to finish our feud. I had Robert down in the twelfth-round of our last encounter, but this time he will hit the canvas a lot sooner!’’

Tickets for Abraham-Stieglitz IV are on sale now and available by calling the GERRY WEBER Ticket Centre on +49 (0) 5201 81 80, or online via gerryweber-world.de and tickethall.de. All the action will be shown live and exclusive in Germany on SAT.1 and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Blackwell Blog 1: “I’m going to make him (Ryder) look levels below me!”

ARDIFF (11 MAY) By Nick Blackwell: A lot of people have seen me as high risk, low reward for a long time now, so when I found out I’d been mandated for the British title and that I’d be fighting John Ryder, it came as a huge relief. It was a guarantee. I knew I’d get the fight. There’d be no avoiding me.

After beating Ryder, I won’t just be seen as high risk, low reward. I’ll have the British title to my name – and that’s a massive reward.

For some reason, I knew I’d be fighting Ryder after Christmas. I just had a feeling he’d be The One. The Chris Eubank Jr fight came up again, as it always does, but I knew he would’t take that. Unsurprisingly, it fell through pretty much straight away. I then had the opportunity to fight Ryder for the British title and that was music to my ears.

I’m buzzing for it now. I’ve visualised fighting Ryder since the start of the year and am more than ready for it. I’ve done a lot of southpaw sparring since my last fight in November and it’s all been in preparation for this.

I train all year round, of course. I’m always fit to do ten or twelve rounds. But I had a feeling this fight with Ryder was on the horizon since the start of the New Year and knew I had to be prepared. It’s usually always last minute with me, so I was ready to jump into a fight whenever they said it was signed and sealed.

As soon as the fight was made, my diet became strict, I turned training up a notch and I had seven or eight weeks to add to all the stuff I already had in the bag. That’s all it was. It wasn’t like I just started training for this fight seven or eight weeks out. I’ve been training constantly since my last fight in November.

As for Ryder, I think he’s a little bit beneath the likes of Martin Murray and Billy Joe Saunders but still a very good fighter. His last couple of performances haven’t been great, but that’s probably because he was in there against opponents who were just trying to survive. It was hard for him to look good.

I know he’s a strong boy, he’s fit, he’s tough and he’s not a bad boxer. He’ll give me a tough fight. But I’ve never been in the ring with somebody who was too strong for me or too hard for me. I don’t see Ryder being able to push me around.

I reckon I can get to him mentally, too. I think I can break him once I start walking him down and pushing him back. I plan on putting a lot of pressure on him. And when he’s hitting me with the kind of shots he’s used to put other people away, and realises they aren’t having an impact, he’ll start to doubt himself. I’ll also be hitting him back.

Winning the British title at a massive venue like the O2 Arena is a dream come true. It doesn’t get much bigger than that in this country. Also, the May 30 card is a big bill with a lot of good fights on it. Hopefully I can go out there, make a statement and steal the show. I’m going to show John Ryder up on the big stage. I’m going to make him look levels below me.

May 10, 2015…Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX

Clottey, 39-4 22KO’s, Accra, Ghana, started a little slowly but started warming up in round 3. Joshua scored with ripping combinations and started to hurt Silva who dropped to 20-9-2 16KO’s.

Clottey continued to press the action looking very sharp as Silva hung tough and tried his best to fight back but Clottey just had too much for Silva to handle. T

The scores were 100-90 on two cards and 98-92 on the third all in favor of Clottey who now his eyes set on the winner of the main event between Alvarez and Kirkland.

Clottey promoter Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing had this to say about Joshua’s performance ” Once again Joshua showed that he is one of the top Jr. Middleweights in the world today. He fought a very tough kid in Silva and once his engines started revving he displayed the skill and power that made him a world champion. We definitely want to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as Canelo Alvarez won and I believe Josh deserves this opportunity”.

Alvarez takes out Kirkland in three round war

Canelo Alvarez
Saul “Canelo” ALvarez thrilled over 30,000 people at Houston’s Minute Maid Park by turning on a sensational performance by stopping James Kirkland in round three of a scheduled 12-round Super Welterweight bout.

ALvarez came out throwing bombs and landing just about all of them as he landed some good head shots but started to break Kirkland’s body down until he landed a big right hand that sent Kirkland to deck in the first frame. Alvarez was all over Kirkland and landed some thudding shots that had Kirjland barely making it out of the round. In round two, Kirkland showed tremendous resolve as he kept Alvarez on the ropes for a good portion of the round. Alvarez was able to take the round with power shots.

In round three, Alvarez landed some solid shots to the head and then he landed a huge uppercut that dumped Kirkland on the canvas. Kirkland showed heart by getting up but then ate a vicious right hand that sprawled a bleeding Kirkland on the canvas and the fight was stopped at 2:19.

Alvarez, 154 1/2 lbs of Guadalajara, MX is now 45-1-1 with 32 knockouts. Kirkland, 154 1/2 lbs of Austin, TX is now 32-2.

“This was one of the best knockouts of my career,” Canelo Alvarez said following the fight. “He came out with a little bit of a different style than I was expecting, but I was able to adjust and get the knockout. I knew he was strong fighter but he surprised me with his aggressiveness in the first and second round. I fight for the fans, and I’ll fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.” Alvarez connected on an astounding 60 percent of his power shots, landing 79 of them inside of three rounds.

“I didn’t know I was knocked out,” said James Kirkland. “I had him trapped and hurt in the corner in the first round but he escaped, I had him hurt in the second also. He’s a great champion, I’m proud that I was able to compete in such a terrific event, and I hope to fight him again someday. I’m a warrior, I’ll be back.

“I’m proud of him, he’s a true warrior and I’m going to get him back with Ann Wolfe,” said Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Founder and Chairman of SMS Promotions, said of Kirkland after the fight.

“I am very happy about the fight, it was intense from round one. We want to thank Kirkland for taking this fight and for giving the fans an exciting night,” said Jose “Chepo” Reynoso, manager and trainer for Canelo Alvarez. “This fight showed the result of 17 intense weeks of training and we are very satisfied with the result.”

“I’m happy we won the fight,” said Eddy Reynoso, head trainer for Canelo Alvarez. “This is the result of a successful camp. Kirkland did surprise us in the beginning, but Canelo was able to find him and adjust to his rhythm and overpower him. I want to thank the team that made this fight happen and all the fans that continue to support us.”

With official attendance of 31,588, Minute Maid Park was rocking from the opening bell, and Alvarez delivered for them not only with a huge knockout, but with a pledge to fight in Texas once a year.

Culcay wins Interim World Championship, signs contract extension with Team Sauerland!

Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) took his chance and is the new WBA Interim World Champion at Super Welterweight! Fighting in front of a home crowd against compatriot Maurice Weber (21-2-1, 8 KOs) at the Festhalle Frankfurt (Germany), Culcay dominated most of the rounds. Despite Culcay landing hard punches to Weber’s head and body in the championship rounds, the latter refused to give in, letting the judges make their final verdict. After twelve rounds, “Golden Jack” won by scores of 115:112, 116:111 und 118:110.

Promoter Kalle Sauerland was pleased with Culcay’s performance, saying: “Jack controlled the action and took a deserving victory. After tonight, we are already looking ahead in several aspects.” Besides signing Culcay to a 4-year contract extension right after the fight, Sauerland plans to have Culcay fight for a world championship by the end of 2015.

First for Culcay though, was tonight’s win: “It was my first professional bout here in Frankfurt and winning here was very important to me. The crowd gave me the proper support to get it done.” When being confronted with his promoters immediate plans for the future, Culcay made a wish: “If there is the opportunity to fight for a world title, I want it to happen on my birthday, September 26.”

Culcay could hardly make himself a bigger present that day…

BOYD “RAINMAKER” MELSON TRIUMPHANT IN RING RETURN ON BROADWAY BOXING

Boyd Melson
New York, NY (5/9/15) – On Friday night, for the second time this year, DiBella Entertainment staged its popular Broadway Boxing series north to the suburbs of Westchester County with an exciting eight-bout card, in front of a raucous sold-out crowd at the beautiful Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, NY.

Headlining the card, West Point graduate Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson, 153½, White Plains, NY, made his much-anticipated ring return against the always-game Mike Ruiz, 153¾, Glenbrook, NY, in a 10-round super welterweight contest. Ending a 15-month layoff that was spent healing from a right arm injury suffered in his previous bout and a subsequent torn rotator cuff incurred during training, Melson showed no ill effects outboxing Ruiz in an impressive showing. Throughout, Melson displayed tremendous accuracy, focusing on his straighter punches, which were also aided by Ruiz’ lack of head movement. Beating Ruiz to the punch, Melson’s speed was causing his adversary problems, not letting him find a rhythm. Ruiz, who himself was coming off of a year-and-a-half layoff, tried to make it a rough fight in close, having his best moments in round four as the action intensified. Melson, however, kept pumping his jab to establish a distance as much as he could. In the sixth, Melson floored Ruiz and continued to land his straight right well in the following frame. Maintaining control over the closing rounds, Melson went on to win a unanimous decision on scores of 100-89, 99-90, and 98-91, to improve to 14-1-1 (3 KOs). With the victory, Melson, who leads the “Fight To Walk” boxing team and donates almost his entire purse to the JustaDollarPlease organization, which specializes in stem cell research, picked up the WBC USNBC super welterweight title. Ruiz suffered his second loss in a row, dropping to 17-8 (9 KOs).

Popular heavyweight Alexander “Lights Out” Vanasse, 207¼, of Carmel, NY, engaged Raymond Santiago, 234¼, of Amsterdam, NY, in an entertaining brawl with a large, adoring fan base cheering him on. Landing the sharper punches, Vanasse jabbed to the body to set up his hooks upstairs. In round two, a barrage of shots forced the referee to halt the action at 2:58 of the stanza, feeling that Santiago was taking too much punishment. Vanasse improved to 2-0 (2 KOs), while Santiago’s ledger dipped to 1-6.

In a good-action scrap, Maxito “The Anvil” Sainvil, 146¾, Nyack, NY, was much too powerful and aggressive for his Brooklynite foe Anton Williamson. The shorter Sainvil bobbed and weaved his way inside Williamson’s reach, pounding away at the body with hooks from both hands. Applying pressure throughout, Sainvil focused on his uppercut and left hook as the bout progressed. On occasion, Williamson, 146½, was able to land countershots, though a left hook upstairs floored him in the third. After four frames, Sainvil won a unanimous decision on scores of 40-35 twice, and 38-37, to improve to 2-0 (1 KO), while Williamson fell to 1-3.

Southpaw Max Tassy, 169½, of Nyack, NY, was unable to overcome the awkward style of the tall, lanky and switch-hitting Ralph Johnson, 171¼, of Worcester, MA, during their four-round firefight. Overall, Johnson landed more punches, especially on the inside. One judge had the bout a 38-38 draw, but was overruled by two tallies of 39-37 in favor of Johnson, 2-5 (1 KO), awarding him the majority decision victory. Tassy is now 3-1 (1 KO).

Brooklyn’s WBA #7-ranked junior featherweight contender Rafael Vazquez, 122½, earned his seventh victory in a row outboxing Mexico City’s Pedro Melo, 122¾, for eight one-sided rounds. Vazquez’ entire arsenal was on display, mixing in shots to the body and head, particularly with his left hook. A straight right upstairs followed by a left hook to the midsection bent Melo over in obvious pain to end round two. A straight right-left hook combination dropped Melo in the third and a right cross put him down a second time in round five. Vazquez, now 14-1 (11 KOs), continued to be aggressive for the remainder of the fight, winning a unanimous shutout on three identical scores of 80-70. Melo’s record fell to 13-8-2 (4 KOs).

Former world title challenger and WBO European junior welterweight titlist Sergey Fedchenko, 140½, Kharkiv, Ukraine, dismantled the tenacious Renald Garrido, 139½, of Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône, France, over eight exciting rounds with technical boxing wizardry. Garrido pressured and came forward all night, throwing punches in bunches, though in wild fashion. However, Garrido missed his target often, as the elusive Fedchenko also proved adept at defensive footwork. Fedchenko effortlessly countered Garrido’s aggression with pinpoint straights, overhand shots and hooks. The judges tallied 77-75 twice, and 76-76, with Fedchenko the winner by way of majority decision. With both boxers making their US debut, Fedchenko improved to 34-3 (14 KOs), while Garrido fell to 14-10-1 (2 KOs).

Co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Maravilla Box Promotions, the superbly talented amateur prodigy Jonathan “Maravilla” Alonso, 141¼, is now 4-0 (3 KOs) as a pro after scoring a second-round TKO over the headstrong Jose Guzman, 138½, 5-10-1, Bronx, NY. With superior hand speed, Alonso quickly found a home for his overhand right, breaking through Guzman’s guard to tag him on the chin. The unbeaten prospect also wisely dug in shots to the body whenever Guzman applied pressure. Following two completed rounds, Guzman did not come out of his corner for the third stanza. Considered one of the best amateur boxers in Spain’s history, Alonso was born in Moca, Dominican Republic, but moved to Spain at just seven years old. He took up boxing as an amateur at the age of 16, compiling an 85-11 record, including having competed in the 2012 London Olympics. He won gold medals at the Campeonato de España Junior tournament in 2009, as well as at the Campeonato de España tournament in 2011 and 2012. Alonso also picked up silver at Spain’s Golden Gloves tournament and the Bosnian Tournament, both in 2011.

Montreal’s Francy Ntetu, 167½, who is co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, outboxed Milton Nunez, 167½, of Barranquilla, Colombia, over eight frames to win a dominant unanimous decision. Down the stretch, Ntetu’s crisp punches had stunning accuracy, as he repeatedly landed his overhand right and often adding in his left hook upstairs. Scorecards read 80-72, and 79-73 twice. Now 15-0 (3 KOs), Ntetu, a former Canadian amateur champion and veteran of 85 amateur contests, is on the verge of transitioning from prospect to contender. Nunez dropped to 28-14-1 (25 KOs).

KNOCKOUT OR DECISION? MEDIA EXPERTS GIVE THEIR PICKS FOR CANELO VS. KIRKLAND

Canelo Alvarez
HOUSTON (May 8) – Media experts are making their predictions for how the showdown between heavy hitters Canelo Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) and James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) will end on May 9 at Houston’s Minute Maid Park. Given the power of both fighters, all agree that this fight will be explosive in the ring and action-packed from start to finish. The experts we polled overwhelmingly agree: this fight will end when someone gets knocked out.

Here’s what they had to say:

EDUARDO BECERRIL, HOY Los Angeles:

“Canelo for the knockout.”

ALEX BURGOS, RoundbyRoundBoxing.com:

“Sometimes, the best fights are the most predictable ones. In regards to Canelo Alvarez and James Kirkland, we know who they are, and we know what they will bring to the table, that’s why this fight promises to be so exciting. While I expect some grueling and tough early-round exchanges, Canelo will be happy that he doesn’t have to go searching for Kirkland. Canelo’s punching accuracy and his ability to move in and out of range quickly will help him overwhelm Kirkland and earn a late-round stoppage.”

DAMIAN CALHOUN, Orange County Register:

“I would be extremely surprised if this fight goes the distance. This has explosive written all over it and fans should enjoy it for as long as it lasts. I think Kirkland will present some problems for Alvarez. I think the absence of trainer Ann Wolfe will play a large role in the fight. She always knew what buttons to push to get Kirkland motivated. I expect Alvarez to mix up his attack, working the body constantly, and leading to a late-round stoppage.”

BRIAN CAMPBELL, ESPN.com:

“I think it ends in a knockout. This one has early stoppage written all over it. In fact, Kirkland’s reckless, fan-friendly style will make sure of it. Canelo will be forced to stand and fight, where his stronger technique will win out. But not before having his chin and backbone tested.”

ANTHONY COCKS, Ringside Report:

“I just can’t see Canelo-Kirkland being a distance fight regardless of who wins. Kirkland’s best chance is to jump on Canelo early and rattle him before he settles into his rhythm. But the most likely scenario is Canelo surviving the early firefight to break down Kirkland in the mid-rounds, stopping him in the seventh or eighth round.”

TIM DAHLBERG, Associated Press:

“I like Canelo by TKO, probably around the seventh round. Both are strong punchers, but Canelo has the edge in ring generalship.”

RICHARD DEAN, Houston Chronicle:

“Kirkland’s been wanting this fight for a long time. The long layoff won’t affect Kirkland in the ring. A refined slugger, I predict Kirkland in a knockout that will catapult his career to new heights.”

ED DE LA VEGA, PhilBoxing.com:

“In my opinion, in spite of the power of both Canelo and James, I believe the fight will go the full length because the fight will be a tactical one. Each fighter knows the power of they both have and a KO will occur if they take unnecessary risks and go for a knockout. Therefore, they will both fight a tactical fight in an attempt to win via the judges’ decision.”

GUY DOCETONI, Heavy.com:

“A fistic delight when hard-hitting Canelo Alvarez defends his reputation against Texan tough guy James Kirkland. While I expect plenty of good quality brawling from these two grinders, I believe Canelo knows better than to indulge in any risky, long-term shootouts with a slugger like Kirkland, and I predict that the redhead from Guadalajara will box, and definitely punch, his way to a unanimous decision.”

KEVIN IOLE, YAHOO! Sports:

“Kirkland is dangerous because he’s aggressive and hits hard, but Canelo is a better boxer by a long shot and hits very hard. I think he’ll systematically break Kirland down and stop him midway through the fight.”

STEVE KIM, UCNLive.com:

“In what will be an entertaining back-and-forth affair, I think the steadiness and consistency of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will eventually tame and subdue Kirkland. Kirkland’s aggression and mentality always make him a dangerous foe, but I worry about his protracted layoff. I like Canelo via KO in the 10th round.”

KELSEY McCARSON, Bleacher Report:

“Canelo-Kirkland is the kind of matchup that screams knockout. Both fighters come ready and willing to engage. Both are excellent offensively and solid punchers. And both men need the win. It will be an all-action slugfest between two outstanding junior middleweights, and I believe it will end in someone being concussed put down for the count. Kirkland is exactly the kind of fighter who brings out the best in Alvarez. He’ll come forward, land thudding punches and make Alvarez respond in kind. But Alvarez is one of the best in the biz. He’ll use his better footwork and faster hands to land a higher volume on punches as the fight wears on and by Round 10 the fight will be over. Alvarez will be the winner by TKO.”

JEFF POWELL, The Daily Mail:

“Canelo by TKO, probably around the tenth round.”

BOB VELIN, USA Today:

“I think Canelo will knock Kirkland out in the ninth round after they engage in a slugfest for most of the fight. Kirkland has an edge in power, but Canelo also has power and he’s a much better technical boxer. Eventually he will pick Kirkland apart and then drop him.”

MARK WHICKER, Los Angeles Daily News:

“I’m picking Canelo in a seventh-round knockout, provided he can get through Kirkland’s power in the early rounds.”

MICHAEL WOODS, The Sweet Science:

“Someone is hitting the deck, and staying there, on Saturday in Texas. Bombs will explode, and I think will damage Kirkland, sans Ann Wolfe, more than the Mexican.”

Esquivias, who not long ago was in an IBF title eliminator with future world champion Jhonatan Romero, is trying to climb back to elite level status.

“I’ve had some setbacks, but they are in the rear view mirror,” said Esquivias, who’s signature knockout win came against former world champion Rafael Marquez nearly two years ago. “I’m ready to bounce back and start another winning streak.”

Mansour decisions Dawejko

Amir Mansour
PHILADELPHIA–Amir Mansour won a 10-round unanimous decision in a much anticipated Heavyweight bout at the sold-out 2300 Arena.

The action was spirited early as the two looked to land heavy shots. In round two, the two clashed heads that opened up a nasty gash around the right eye of Mansour. It seemed that Dawejko could capitalize on the cut as became more agressive and was able to land effective blows. That advantage was short lived as another clash of heads opened a cut on the forehead and left eye of Dawejko.

As the fight played out, Mansour came forward and landed some mostly ineffective blows and he also missed alot but that was enough to win the rounds as Dawejko waited and waited and waited some more to counter Mansour. Those opportunities were few and far between as Mansour mixed up his game between boxing and slugging while Dawejko did not attempt to throw many punches in return.

In the last minute of the fight, Mansour landed the best punch of the fight as he landed a hard left and right that had Dawejko holding on.

Mansour, 210 1/2 of Penns Grove, NJ won by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 and he is now 22-1. Dawejko, 230 1/2 lbs of Philadelphia drops to 14-4-2.

In round eight, Nicklow put his goloves down and let Perez drill him five times flush in the face.

Perez, 159.9 lbs of Atlantic City, NJ won by scores of 79-73 on all cards and is now 14-3-1. Nicklow, 161.3 lbs of Baltimore, MD is now 24-6-3

CANELO READY TO TAKE THE MANTLE FROM MAYWEATHER BUT MUST FIRST GET PAST KNOCKOUT KING KIRKLAND LIVE ON BOXNATION THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

Saul Alvarez
LONDON (May 8) – Mexican ace Canelo Alvarez says he is ready to claim the mantle of boxing’s pay-per-view star after Floyd Mayweather hangs up his gloves.

The 24-year-old light-middleweight takes on big-hitting James Kirkland this weekend, live and exclusive on BoxNation, in an edge-of-the-seat thriller in front of 35,000 at the Minute Maid Park in Texas.

Despite refusing to overlook the dangerous Kirkland, the flame-haired superstar is prepared to fill the gap once Mayweather calls it a day following his last fight in September and has even opened the door to a rematch with the money man after his 2013 points loss.

“I’m ready. I’m ready for whatever comes to my career. I work hard, I train hard, I fight the best, and if that’s the role [next PPV star] that I have to take once they’re [Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao] gone, then yes, I’m ready for it,” said Canelo.

“I would love it [a rematch with Mayweather]. It would interest me. I’ve learned more things, there’s more experience, but right now, this fight is what’s more important to me, and that’s James Kirkland on Saturday,” he said.

Canelo is well aware of the threat knockout artist Kirkland possesses having stopped 28 opponents in his 32 wins, with just a single loss on his record.

The former WBC and WBA light-middleweight champion knows that this is a fight that has captivated the boxing public and says he will fight any fighter as long as it appeals to the fans.

“I’ll fight any style. I’ll be clear – I’ll fight any style. I’m ready and willing to fight anybody, but the fans like this style because that’s the fans, what they go to see. They want to go and see action, and these are the kind of fights where the people will leave happy,” said Canelo.

“Kirkland’s a very dangerous fighter because of his punch. His power is extreme. He can finish the fight with one punch, and then he also throws out of different angles, so it makes it even more complicated, more difficult, but more than anything, it’s that power that he can finish a fight with one punch.

“My goal is always to fight the best in the world, so that the fans get what they want: to see the best fights possible. As long as they’re at the top, I want to fight the best,” he said.

31-year-old Kirkland, who hasn’t fought since his electrifying win over Glen Tapia in 2013, is undaunted at the prospect of facing Canelo and says he is prepared to go toe-to-toe with the ferocious Mexican.

“I can just tell people this when they ask about boxing and what can I bring to the sport or how I picture myself: I am a force of nature that overrides a lot of the people that I fight. When they come with heart, I believe my heart is bigger than that,” said Kirkland.

“When they come with determination, I don’t feel no one has the will power and the drive that I possess. When it comes to speed, I don’t feel as if the opponent is going to be able to adapt, and if they do, I always got a step above my opponent.

“It’s going to be a fight [against Canelo] that you don’t have to worry about if they’re going to run, if this person’s going to be dodging and ducking and looking for somewhere to run and hide.

“Me and Canelo will meet in the middle of the ring and that’s where the fight will take place. We may stay there the whole entire fight if he’s going to come to fight like I’m coming to fight, then that will be the particular fight that the fans want to see,” he said.

Also, live and exclusive on BoxNation at 7pm this Saturday night from The SSE Arena in London, will be a stacked Queensberry Promotions card featuring rising star Frank Buglioni who defends his WBO European super-middleweight title against Lee Markham.

The 26-year-old known as ‘The Wise Guy’ is one of the country’s top emerging talents and is looking to make it an easy night’s work against the tough Markham.

“Camp has been spot on,” says Buglioni. “My spar mates Luke Keeler and Spike O’Sullivan have very similar styles to Markham, only they’re a lot better! Gary Boulden beat Markham yet Luke knocked Boulden out inside a round which puts it all in context. And Spike’s mixed at world level.

“They’ve been preparing me for a gruelling 12 round war. My strength and fitness are at an all time high. I’d never felt better than I did in my last fight and there’s been further improvement since. I’m really looking forward to showing everybody what I’ve added on May 9th – if the fight goes long enough!”

WBO European welterweight champion Bradley Skeete is also back in action as he takes on Brunet Zamora, with the exciting prospect Mitchell Smith up against Cristian Palma for the vacant WBO Intercontinental featherweight belt.

That’s not all from BoxNation who will air a third show on Saturday night when German star Felix Sturm looks to bounce back onto the world stage as he stakes on the hard-hitting Russian and current interim WBA super-middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov.

Canelo v Kirkland is live on BoxNation (Sky 437/490HD, Virgin 546 and TalkTalk 525) this Saturday night at 2am. Visit boxnation.com to subscribe.

Wach, CES set sights on Price

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 8th, 2015) – CES Boxing President and CEO Jimmy Burchfield Sr., co-promoter of Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach, continues to lobby for a bout between his world-ranked fighter and former Olympic medalist David Price, a bout rumored to take place in June until Price reportedly withdrew from the fight last month.

“They still don’t have an opponent for him,” Burchfield said of Price’s promoter, Team Sauerland. “Why are they, and Price’s camp, afraid to fight Wach? We accepted all of the terms. A fighter has to fight.”

CES Boxing co-promotes Wach with New Jersey-based Global Boxing and Mariusz Kolodziej. Price (19-2, 16 KOs) and Wach (30-1, 16 KOs) are ranked No. 24 and 25, respectively, among heavyweights in the World Boxing Council (WBC).

INTERNATIONAL VALE TUDO NOW STREAMING UFC FIGHT PASS LEGENDARY BRAZILIAN PROMOTION ADDED TO THE UFC FIGHT PASS LIBRARY

ufc_title-belt_206
The largest MMA fight library just got even bigger – with the addition today of the International Vale Tudo league.

The IVC was a Vale Tudo promotion which ran 13 events from 1997 to 1999 in Brazil. While MMA in North America at the time was running towards ever greater regulation, the IVC reveled in its renegade reputation, pitting bare-knuckle fighters against each other in single round, 30minute no-holds barred brawls inside a boxing ring. Nevertheless, MMA luminaries like Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva and Dan Severn competed in IVC. Now, almost two decades on, UFC FIGHT PASS gives subscribers the chance to witness 1990s Brazilian Vale Tudo fighting for themselves.

All 13 of the classic IVC shows from Brazil are now live on UFC FIGHT PASS here:
http://www.ufc.tv/category/international-vale-tudo-event-replays

IVC is the latest fight library to be added to the massive FIGHT PASS archive, joining the full libraries of UFC, WEC, PRIDE FC, Strikeforce, WFA, Affliction, EliteXC and IMMAF.

The rights to the libraries of Cage Rage, Pancrase, King of the Cage, Extreme Challenge, Hook N Shoot, UCMMA, XFO and TKO have already been acquired by UFC FIGHT PASS and will appear on the digital streaming service in the coming weeks and months.
