Boxing history was made in Copenhagen, Denmark last night. Norwegian star Cecilia Brækhus (26-0, 7 KOs) became the first female boxer to unify a division by holding all four major titles simultaneously. The WBC, WBA & WBO Champion scored a unanimous decision victory over IBF Champion Ivana Habazin (13-2, 5 KOs) to become the undisputed welterweight queen.

Cheered on by her loyal army of travelling Norwegian fans, Brækhus once again proved why she is the pound-for-pound female number one with a classy performance against the tenacious Habazin. All three judges scored the fight 100-90 in favour of ‘The First Lady’.

‘’I’ve been dreaming of this moment for a long time,’’ said Brækhus. ‘’To become the first female boxer to unify a division is a huge achievement and something that I am extremely proud of. I would like to thank all the fans that travelled to Copenhagen to support me and Ivana for the part she played in this historic fight.’’

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’Cecilia is a phenomenal athlete. Not only will she go down in history as the first female unified champion but it is our belief that she will be remembered as the greatest female boxer of all time.’’

Brækhus’ success was shared by Swedish stablemates Klara Svensson and Erik Skoglund, both of whom claimed titles at Team Sauerland’s Nordic Fight Night show.

‘The Swedish Princess’ Klara Svensson (14-0, 5 KOs) got her first taste of world glory. The 26 year-old from Malmo defeated Marie Riederer (15-2-1, 10 KOs) for the interim WBC Female World Light Welterweight title. The judges scored the fight 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 for Svensson.

‘’This was the best performance of my career so far,’’ said Svensson. ‘’Riederer was very tough, I hit her with some big shots and she kept coming. Tonight I have shown that I belong at the top with the world’s elite and I’m ready to challenge for the regular title.’’

Light heavyweight Erik Skoglund (21-0, 11 KOs) continued his climb up the world rankings. The European (EU) and WBC Youth Champion added the IBF Intercontinental crown to his collection with a dominant display against Stefano Abatangelo (18-4-1, 6 KOs). After twelve rounds of action Skoglund was ahead 118-109, 120-106 and 118-108.

‘’Abatangelo gave all that he had but I never felt like I was in trouble,’’ said the young boxer from Nyköping. ‘’This was another step up and a good test to prepare me for the bigger challenges ahead. The atmosphere in Copenhagen was electric and I want to thank all the fans for coming to support me.’’

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’Sweden is becoming a hot bed of boxing talent with our young stars leading the way. Klara showed guts and determination befitting of a world champion, while Erik’s potential, at just 23 years old, is frightening.’’

Pound for Pound king, Floyd Mayweather will earn at $32 million for his rematch with Marcos Maidana on Saturday night.

Maidana’s minimum guarantee for the fight is $3 million, double his guarantee for the fight in May. But he earned more than that from Argentina television rights and an additional $1.5 million payment to wear the kind of gloves Mayweather wanted him to wear when there was a disagreement at the 11th hour according to espn.com.

In Saturday’s co-feature, junior featherweight titlist Leo Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KOs) will earn a career-high $750,000, and challenger Manuel Roman (17-2-3, 6 KOs) will make $50,000.

Lightweight titleholder Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13 KOs) will earn $450,000 for a defense against Mickey Bey (20-1-1, 10 KOs), whose purse is $125,000. Brawler Alfredo Angulo (22-4, 18 KOs), who is moving up to the middleweight division, will earn $500,000, and his opponent, James De La Rosa (22-2, 13 KOs), will make $43,000.

In the fight that will take place on the pay-per-view preview show, junior welterweight Humberto Soto (64-8-2, 35 KOs), a former two-division titleholder, will make $150,000, and John Molina Jr. (27-4, 22 KOs) will make $125,000.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2014) – Reigning bantamweight (135 pounds) champion Marlon Moraes (13-4-1) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. will square off with fellow superstar Cody “The Cali Cowboy” Bollinger (16-2, 1 NC) of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. at a new catchweight of 147 pounds in the non-title, main event bout at the World Series of Fighting event at Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, Pa. tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13, live on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) and NBCSports.com.

Originally slated to meet at a catchweight of 140 pounds, Bollinger weighed in unofficially at 147 pounds earlier in the day, prompting officials to increase the weight limit of the fight. Bollinger also weighed in officially at 147 pounds while Moraes, after taking the opportunity to rehydrate shortly before weigh-ins, tipped the scales at 146.7 pounds. Bollinger accepted the fight last week after Moraes’ original opponent, Josh Hill, withdrew from the affair.

All six other main card competitors, including lightweight (155 pounds) co-main event opponents Ozzy Dugulubgov (5-2) of Clifton, N.J. and Keon “The Black Assassin” Caldwell (10-2) of Moultrie, Ga. made weight. Dugulubgov tipped the scales at 155.4 pounds and Caldwell clocked in at 155.5 pounds.

Russian import Timur Valiev (7-1), fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M., weighed 135.5 pounds while his bantamweight opponent Isaiah “The Beast” Chapman (6-1) of Akron, O.H. registered a weight of 134.8 pounds.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belts Frankie Perez (8-1) of Howell, N.J. and Tom Marcellino (7-2) of Amsterdam, N.Y. weighed in at 155.3 pounds and 154.9 pounds, respectively, for their lightweight matchup that will serve as the opening bout on the live NBCSN telecast.

Emmanuel Walo (6-1-1) of Jersey City, N.J.; Sidney Outlaw (3-0) of Telford, Pa.; and Katlyn Chookagian (1-0) of Kennilworth, N.J., all slated for action on the six-bout preliminary card, missed weight, but will compete without cutting any additional pounds. Each forfeited 15 percent of his or her purse.

LONDON (Sep 12) – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s ring return against undefeated Chris Algieri has landed on BoxNation, with the Filipino legend joining fellow pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather on ‘The Channel of Champions’.

The duo will lock horns on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena in Macao, with boxing’s only eight-division world champion Pacquiao defending his WBO welterweight title against the slick New Yorker, who has a record 20 wins in 20 fights.

“You saw Algieri’s last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov. He showed his toughness and he fought good so he deserves this fight. I don’t want to underestimate my opponent,” said Pacquiao, who is coming off an impressive win over Tim Bradley.

“I have to prepare myself 100%. It’s been a while since the fans of Manny Pacquiao have seen the killer instinct like when I fought Cotto, Margarito, de la Hoya, Hatton, and that’s what I’m trying to show in this fight.

“All I can say to his team is train hard and I will train hard so that we can give a good fight and we can entertain people,” added Pacquiao.

Algieri too is in buoyant mood ahead of next month’s showdown and can’t wait to get in the ring to prove he is amongst boxing’s elite.

“We’ve got two champions fighting each other. It’s not something you see very often, especially nowadays you see a lot of guys trying to hold on to their records, hold on to their titles and we’re not afraid to fight the best,” said Algieri.

“I think we need more guys in this sport doing that who aren’t afraid to take challenges and take risks,” he said.

LONDON (12 Sep) – Former unified light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan has tipped Floyd Mayweather to come through his challenge with Marcos Maidana as he eyes a potential future fight with boxing’s pound-for-pound star.

The Bolton native was highly impressive in his last outing against Luis Collazo at his first fight at welterweight, and will now be ringside in Las Vegas after resolving Visa issues that meant he was unable to travel on Thursday morning.

Khan lands on Saturday afternoon and will be on-hand to cast his eyes over Mayweather and fully expects the current two-weight world champion to outsmart and outthink his way to victory over the hard-hitting Argentine, live this Saturday night on BoxNation.

“The first fight surprised a lot of people, no one expected Floyd to be in such a tough fight with Maidana. Maidana did himself a lot of credit in that fight and gave Floyd problems that not many people expected to see,” said Khan.

“Nevertheless, I think this fight Floyd will be a lot more composed and will know what he’s getting when he faces Maidana. The thing with Maidana is he tends to throw shots from weird angles and it can take you out your stride at first.

“Having shared the ring with him now, I think Floyd is going to be smart, box from the outside and maybe leave Maidana chasing his shadow,” he said.

The 31-year-old Maidana gave Mayweather his toughest fight in years when they first clashed in May.

Despite partial success for Maidana in his gameplan of pressurising the 11-time world champion first time around, Khan believes you have to have more than one trick when taking on a fighter of Mayweather’s calibre.

“Maidana made it a very rough and rugged fight and showed Floyd no respect first time around. His gameplan was to go in there and treat him like he was a nobody. In a way it definitely worked for him because he gave Floyd a tough fight especially early on.

“But against Floyd you can’t go in there with one strategy and think it’s going to see you through the fight because he is very clever, very smart and makes adjustments,” said Khan.

“He’ll do something different and ask you questions and poses different problems round by round. So you might win the first, second and third round but it’s about seeing it through and in the end Maidana just couldn’t do it.”

Many within boxing circles have tipped the 27-year-old Khan himself to be the one fighter who could give Mayweather a real run for his money.

With a plan to be out again at the end of this year Khan is hoping to throw his name into the sweepstakes to take on boxing’s biggest draw.

“It’s a fight that many want to see happen just because our styles would make a very interesting clash. If I keep winning then I think it’s a fight that could definitely happen in the future. Floyd has said the same thing to me in the past,” said Khan.

“For now, I’m out again in December so I’m looking to get my opponent named for that and putting on a great performance in my next fight. But if it makes sense for both sides then it will be a fight that could happen.

“I don’t want to put a timescale on it but I got into this sport to fight the best and at the moment Floyd is ahead of everyone so it would be great to test myself against him,” he said.

It is the speed of the Olympic silver medallist which he deems the key component in overcoming the unbeaten Mayweather, who has a flawless 46-0 record.

“I really believe speed is one of the key components in beating Floyd. Speed of hand and speed of foot – even speed of mind. It’s not the only thing but it’s very important, as is having a good jab and being able to answer the questions he poses,” he said.

“You can’t be one dimensional against Floyd because over and over in his career he has shown that he makes changes to whatever style his opponent comes with.

“Yet, when you look at it up until Maidana the people who have troubled him the most have been people with speed and good movement, those are things I possess,” Khan told BoxNation.

Many believe a Mayweather-Khan superfight at Wembley Stadium could exceed anything seen before at the home of English football.

Khan, however, would happily welcome a bout on home soil but is aware any decision would ultimately be Mayweather’s.

“I would love to bring a fight of that scale back home but I think it would be very difficult. Floyd tends to have all his fights at the MGM Grand. I know he has spoke about coming over here and fighting so you never know.

“He has a big fanbase here and I have a big fanbase so it would make sense. To fight Floyd at Wembley would be an unbelievable experience but at the end of the day Floyd is in the position where he decides who and where he wants to fight,” said Khan.

Zuffa, LLC, d/b/a Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) today announced the resolution and settlement of its lawsuit against Steven Messina filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York by Zuffa, LLC’s anti-piracy counsel, Lonstein Law Office, P.C. Steven Messina, through his attorney, Michael Heitmann, confessed to his illegal behavior and apologized for his actions that resulted in the illegal sharing of UFC content. As part of the settlement, Messina was penalized by the UFC for an undisclosed amount and forced to surrender his computer hardware and software to UFC representatives. Additionally, Messina will turn over all records and information pertaining to piracy of UFC content and information related to other potential infringers. He must also cooperate with the UFC organization and law enforcement authorities in an effort to prevent others from stealing intellectual property.

When asked about the settlement, Messina said, “I apologize to the UFC for any damages incurred as a result of my actions in illegally distributing copyrighted UFC broadcasts. As a result of my confession for piracy of UFC’s protected content, I fully accept the terms of the settlement with the UFC.”

Messina also states, “I now realize the harm caused by my actions. It is my hope that I can use this difficult period as a learning experience as I move on with my life. I would also like to tell anyone pirating UFC broadcasts, either through illegal downloading or non-authorized streaming, that it is illegal and not worth the risk.”

As part of the settlement, Messina will provide details of his procedures that led to the unauthorized distribution of an estimated 200 hours of UFC content and will offer his records to the UFC to further prevent illegal usage or sharing of the company’s broadcasts.

Kirk Hendrick, UFC’s Chief Legal Officer, said, “The UFC organization is pleased with the outcome of this case and Messina’s willingness to assist the UFC’s efforts in protecting our intellectual property and broadcasts. With Messina’s apology and understanding, the UFC organization will learn more to help us continue uncovering illegal distribution of our content.”

In an intense war for the ONE FC Flyweight World Championship, Adriano Moraes defeated Geje Eustaquio by submission in the second round after he pulled a Guillotine Choke. The first round was close as Moraes kept his distance from Eustaquio by circling out of range as the Filipino was controlling the action with his pinpoint strikes. In the second, Moraes pressed Eustaquio up against the cage and went for the Guillotine, pulling Eustaquio down to the mat and securing the hold with a body triangle. Eustaquio tried desperately to escape but the choke was in too deep and the Filipino was forced to tap out.

Caros Fodor overcame a very tough and game Vincent Latoel to win by submission in round 2 via Rear Naked Choke. Fodor ended the first round with an armlock attempt that saw Latoel writhing in pain. Latoel was saved by the bell. Much of the fight was spent grinding in a close wrestling scrap that saw both fighters have their moments but Fodor started to pull away in the second with some solid ground and pound. In the final moments of the second round, Fodor locked in the choke and Latoel had no choice but to tap out.

In the Cambodian Featherweight Grand Prix Final, Chan Rothana and Sam Ang Dun went to war for the brief moment the fight lasted. In the heat of battle, Rothana spun wildly for a spinning wheel kick and landed on Dun’s head. After a halt to the action that saw Dun unable to recover, Dun was awarded the victory by disqualification due to an illegal stomp to the head, winning the Cambodian Featherweight Grand Prix trophy.

In a highly electric battle between two game warriors, Arnaud Lepont viciously stopped Suasday Chau with a barrage of elbows and hammer strikes from top position, winning by TKO in the first round. Fans were on their feet as both fighters traded strikes wildly at the center of the cage. In the middle of the action, the fight was paused momentarily after Lepont went for a head stomp on a downed Chau. Chau was allowed a few minutes to recover, but could not get back into the fight competitively. When action resumed, Lepont immediately swarmed Chau who could not defend himself.

In a very entertaining scrap, evenly matched fighters Radeem Rahman and Sung Ming Yen battled in an intense war of strikes. After a few close exchanges, Rahman ended the first round with a Rear Naked Choke attempt as Sung was saved by the bell. The second round saw a much more focused striking effort on the part of Sung, who repeatedly got the better of the exchanges by staggering Rahman on multiple occasions. In the third round, Sung completely dominated Rahman with well placed combinations and multiple takedowns, earning the nod of the judges as he wins by Unanimous Decision.

Amir Khan and Jian Kai Chee put on an intense striking battle for fans in attendance. The two fighters wasted no time, viciously exchanging strikes at the center of the cage from the beginning of the fight. Khan staggered Chee with a knee to the face and followed up with a barrage of unanswered strikes. Chee was unable to defend himself as the referee stepped in to award Khan the victory in round 1.

In a dominant performance, Meas Meu impressively submitted bigger and taller opponent Chan Heng in the first round, winning by Rear Naked Choke. Meu landed an overhand right moments into the fight and shot for the takedown. He went to work on Heng with a series of elbows that opened up a cut on Heng’s face, turning the canvas into a bloody mess. Meu then transitioned to take Heng’s back and secured the submission.

Sam Ang Dun showcased his speed and tenacity, defeating Chin Heng by vicious knockout in the first round. Dun found himself on his back early on but was able to reverse position and wound up on top. Heng caught Dun’s arm in a deep armbar but Dun was able to yank his right arm out of trouble. Dun then threw two thunderous right hands to the head of his downed opponent. Heng was clearly defenseless and the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

In a battle of fierce Featherweights, Chan Rothana defeated Prak Chansin by TKO in the first round as he landed a series of unanswered strikes from full mount. After staggering Chansin with a head kick, Rothana shot for the takedown and ended up in dominant position where he unleashed a barrage of fists on his defenseless opponent.

In a catchweight bout, Vy Srey Chai and Tharoth Sam kicked things off with a fight on the ground. Tharoth was able to grind her way into full mount moments into the first round, quickly transitioning into a very deep armbar that saw Chai’s arm hyperextended. The referee stopped the fight and awarded Tharoth the submission victory.

LINCOLN, R.I. (Sept. 12th, 2014) – Rich Gingras officially has two titles to his name. Now he wants a third.

After beating Joey McCreedy by unanimous decision in the main event Friday night at Twin River Casino, defending his New England Light Heavyweight title and capturing McCreedy’s Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast title, Gingras has his eyes set on settling the score with another popular regional foe.

Asked who he wants to fight next, Gingras, without hesitation, said, “Vladine Biosse,” referring to the reigning N.E. Super Middleweight Champion from Providence, R.I., who defended his belt against Gingras in July of 2013 in a controversial draw.

“I want that super middleweight belt. I want all three,” he said. “It’s mine to begin with. I want it back.”

After a slow start against McCreedy (15-8-2), Gingras (15-4-1) began to pour it on in the middle rounds, using his strength to his advantage by burying right and left hooks to the body. McCreedy got his second win in the seventh and eighth, pressing forward despite absorbing overhand rights from Gingras, leaving the outcome of the fight hanging in the balance once the final bell rang. Gingras won on all three scorecards, 80-72, 79-73, 76-72.

In a fight billed as a brawl reminiscent of the legendary Rocky Marciano-Joe Louis showdown from 1951, Louisiana’s Alvin Varmall Jr. (3-0, 3 KOs) spoiled the homecoming of “Little Rocky” Antonio Mignella (3-1), stopping Mignella at the end of the second round with an overhand right to the temple.

Born in Providence and now living in Louisiana, Mignella used short, effective punches to score early against Varmall, but the hard-hitting Varmall got the last laugh at the 2:42 mark of the second round, sending Mignella face-first to the canvas with an overhead. Mignella got up, but stumbled into the ropes, forcing referee Joey Lupino to appropriately stop the bout.

Cranston, R.I., welterweight Nick DeLomba (5-0) remained unbeaten, outworking the veteran Christian Steele (4-10-2) of Atlanta in a six-round unanimous decision, 60-54, on all three scorecards. DeLomba used his high-volume output and boxed effectively on angles to keep Steele at bay. Steele tried to empty the tank in the final round and land his overhand right to score an upset knockout, but the crafty DeLomba stayed out of harm’s way to earn his fifth victory.

Making his second appearance at Twin River in 2014, Worcester, Mass., super welterweight Khiary Gray-Pitts (2-0) took another step forward, beating dangerous brawler Sergio Cabrera (0-3) of Boston by unanimous decision, 40-36, on all three scorecards.

Gray-Pitts used his lethal combination of speed and power to outbox Cabrera in the first two rounds until Cabrera egged him on in an attempt to turn it into a street fight. Gray-Pitts obliged for the third round before going back to the style that worked in the final round, picking his shots and breaking down Cabrera with combinations to the body.

Following in the footsteps of his father, “Sucra” Ray Oliveira, New Bedford, Mass., super welterweight Ray Oliveira Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) turned in an impressive performance in his professional debut, outworking the game Angel Valdez (0-1) of Providence to earn the stoppage late in the third round.

Similar to the way his father fought during his heyday, Oliveira Jr. attacked Valdez with a high volume of punches and eventually broke him down with a combination of jabs and overhand rights, forcing Lupino to stop the bout at the 2:21 mark.

Another protégé of Oliveira, New Bedford’s Scott Sullivan (1-0, 1 KO) earned a win in his debut Friday in similar fashion, using patience to pick apart the unorthodox Moises Rivera (0-4) of Boston. Rivera’s unconventional stance forced Sullivan to pick his spots, but once he began working the body in the second round, Rivera buckled under the pressure. Sullivan earned the stoppage at the 1:26 mark of the second round.

U.S. Air Force veteran Zack Christy (1-0) of Warwick, R.I. (Tampa, Fla.), a protégé of the late Tiny Ricci, also won his debut, beating Framingham, Mass., super middleweight Saul Almeida (0-6) by unanimous decision, 40-36, on all three scorecards. Despite Almeida’s five-inch height advantage, Christy worked the body effectively and began to chop down the taller Almeida in the later rounds.

Monaco/Johannesburg, September 13 – World-rated middleweight Martin Murray began sparring on Friday in anticipation of his October 25 showdown against perennial contender Domenico Spada on the Golden Gloves “Title Tornado” tournament in Monte Carlo.

Murray, rated #1 by the WBC and #3 by the IBF, is engaged in a 10-week training camp under the guidance of trainer Oliver Harrison designed to have him in peak condition for his second outing in the principality.
Murray has been promised a world title bout in February – provided he overcomes the 44-fight battler from Italy. Spada is 39-5 (19 KOs).
Spada, who has fought the likes of Marco Antonio Rubio, Darren Barker and Sebastian Zbik, has won seven of his last eight and is determined to re-enter the title picture by upsetting the man from St Helens in the UK.
“He’s very experienced, you can’t buy that,” said Murray (28-1-1, 12 KOs) from his home. “He’ll fight anyone at any time. What you see is what you get with Spada. He hasn’t got a nice style, but he’s game and comes to win. He’s a tough fighter and he’ll love fighting in Monte Carlo, which will be like his back yard as he lives in Rome.
“He’s gonna come in good condition; he’s got a point to prove. I’m expecting the best, but I’m a level above.”
Given that he is on the cusp of a championship shot, Murray knows that he cannot produce anything less than an outstanding performance next month. “This is why I’m not looking past Spada,” he says. “I’m approaching this like a world title. Whichever Spada turns up, though, I will beat all day long.”
Murray is intrigued by the movement in the middleweight division, much of it remarkable. There is IBF holder Sam Soliman’s on-again off-again fight with Jermain Taylor (who is accused of shooting his cousin), WBA champion Gennady Golovkin’s looming fight with Rubio, Peter Quillin’s decision to vacate the WBO belt and WBC champion Miguel Cotto’s plan not to fight until 2015.
Murray has myriad options, but knows that they will come to naught unless he wins in Monte Carlo.
“The boxing is going really well. I felt I did pretty good against Max Bursak in June and I’ll be looking to do even better against Spada. If I get through this, there’s a world title and that’s the aim.”
Murray has had two title shots in recent years, in the first instance drawing with then-WBA champion Felix Sturm and then, last April, losing a controversial decision to then-WBC champion Sergio Martinez.
Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman, who looks after Murray, is excited at the possibilities.
“The thing no-one can deny about Martin is his boxing smarts. He’s very slick and skilled. There might be bigger punchers out there and more rugged middleweights, but there are few who are smarter than him. He’s well placed to get a title shot, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. First he has a job to do in Monte Carlo where the Barmy Army will be in full voice backing their man.”
The “Title Tornado” card includes WBA/IBO strawweight champion Hekkie Budler’s title defence against Xiong Zhao Zhong of China, the IBF title fight between Randy Caballero of the US and Stuart Hall of the UK and the WBC Silver light-heavyweight fight between unbeaten prospects Ryno Liebenberg of South Africa and Eleider Alvarez of Colombia.

The opponents have been announced for the co-main events on Saturday, September 27, 2014’s, “Rumble on the River” at OKC Downtown Airpark in Oklahoma City, presented by Ivaylo Gotzev and his Epic Sports and Entertainment.

In the night’s eight-round heavyweight “bombs away” co-main event, hard-hitting former WBC Champion Samuel Peter (34-5, 27 KOs) will return for the first time in three years to face former ECHL hockey enforcer turned heavyweight KO artist Ron “The Iceman” Aubrey (12-3, 12 KOs) from Oklahoma City.

Having been on the world stage for most of his career, the 34-year-old Peter will have the edge in experience, but Aubrey will have his army of fans in his corner, cheering the powerful strongman onto pull the huge upset. Someone is surely going home sore and disappointed in this war of big men.

“I am happy to be back in boxing,” said Samuel Peter. “I will dedicate myself to winning the heavyweight championship once again. I’m ready to knock out anyone who stands in my way.”

Meanwhile, Aubrey says he has a surprise waiting for Peter.

“He’s got more experience,” admitted Aubrey, “but I’ve been in hundreds of brawls in my lifetime. I’m not intimidated by him. And in the eight-round, middleweight co-main event, former WBA/WBC Welterweight and WBC Light Middleweight Champion Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga (29-8-1, 23 KOs) will face 33-fight veteran and ex-US Marine Allen “Funky Cole” Medina of Denver, Colorado.

It will be Mayorga’s first fight since his brave stand against Miguel Cotto in March of 2011. He has tried his hand at MMA and taken considerable time off, so it remains to be seen if “El Matador” can still throw the bombs like he once did against some of boxing’s biggest names.

Headlining the undercard, Mexico’s Former IBF Light Middleweight champion “Yory Boy” Campas (102-17-3, 79 KO’s) will be gunning for the 103rd victory of his amazing career against 33-fight veteran Julio Cesar Lanzas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, in an eight-round middleweight match-up.

Luis Ortiz won the WBA Interim Heavyweight title with a 1st round stoppage over Lateef Kayode in a fight between undefeated Heavyweights at the Joint at The Hard Rock in Las Vegas.

Ortiz scored a knockdown in the first thirty seconds from a a right hook to the head. Kayode looked like he was steady until he ate a vicious left on the ropes that started a 13-punch barrage until the fight was stopped at 2:55 of round one.

Kayode seemed to be taking the punches well before referee Robert Byrd stopped the bout.

Ortiz, 233 3/4 lbs of Miami is now 22-0 with 19 knockouts. Kayode, 221 1/4 lbs of Los Angeles, is 20-1.

Jesus Cuellar may have kicked the dirt on the career of Juan Manuel Lopez by scoring an explosive 2nd round stoppage in a scheduled 12-round WBA Interim Featherweight title.

Cuellar landed a vicious 4 punch combination that crumpled the former 2-time world champion to the canvas and the fight was stopped at 1:36 of round two.

Cuellar, 125 1/2 lbs of Argentina is now 25-1 with 19 knockouts. Lopez, 125 lbs of Puerto Rico is now 34-5.

Jermall Charlo remained undefeated by scoring a 7th round stoppage over Norberto Gonzalez in a scheduled 8-round Jr. Middleweight bout.

Charlo dropped Gonzalez in round five from a hard combination and continied to batter him until the fight was stopped in round seven at 1:23 when Gonzalez’ corner threw in the towel.

Charlo, 155 3/4 lbs of Houston, TX is now 19-0 with 15 knockouts. Gonzalez, 156 1/4 lbs of Monterrey, MX is 20-6.

In a battle of undefeated Jr. Middleweights, Julian Williams registered an 8-round unanimous decision over Eliezer Gonzalez.

Williams was effective with the right hand and out landed Gonzalez at an almost three to one rate and won by scores of 80-72 on all cards.

Williams, 154 1/4 lbs of Philadelphia, PA is now 17-0-1. Gonzalez, 154 1/4 lbs of San Juan, PR is 14-1.

Errol Spence Jr. scored a stoppage victory over Noe Bolanos after two rounds when Bolanos apparently hurt his hand.

It was looking academic anyway as Spence started to dominated as he featured his left hand in round two.

Spence, 148 lbs of Desoto, TX is now 14-0 with 11 knockouts. Bolanos, 149 3/4 lbs of Obregan, MX is now 26-11-1.

Josesito Lopez scored an 8-round unanimous decision over Rafael Cabos in a Welterweight fight.

Visinia, 28, of Lakewood, CA, is a former stand-out high school and college football player. He was all-state in Missouri for William Chrisman High School then went on to start at left guard for Southern Illinois University. He took up boxing in 2006 to stay in shape for football, but fell in love with the sport. He began his fighting career in MMA, where he became the #2 ranked amateur heavyweight in the US before making his pro debut on King of the Cage. He then switched to boxing and joined the All American Heavyweight camp. More recently, he signed with Final Forum Promotions, who delivered a reinvigorated Derric Rossy for the August 9, 2014 Fight Night main event against Czar Glazkov. Visinia has knocked out eight of his ten pro boxing opponents-seven of them in the first round. This will be the first 10-round fight of his career.

Cherry, 32, has not lost in more than six years and is ranked No. 11 in the world by the IBF and No. 17 by the WBC. His 32-6-2 record includes 17 knockouts and he has beaten Vicente Escobido, of Woodland, CA; Stevie Johnston, of Denver, CO; Daniel Alicea, of Santurce, Puerto Rico, and Monte Meza-Clay, of Rankin, PA.

The last man to beat Cherry was Timothy Bradley for the WBC junior welterweight title in 2008. Cherry also lost on points to Paulie Malignaggi in 2007.

Belmontes, 25, who lost a disputed 12-round split decision to Omar Figueroa, of Welasco, TX, for the WBC lightweight title earlier this year, is 19-5, 5 KOs. He followed that with another split-decision loss, this one over 10 rounds against Abner Cotto, of Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Belmontes earned his title shot early in 2014 when he out-pointed previously unbeaten Will Tomlinson, of Australia, at the MGM in Las Vegas. He also has beaten Daniel Diaz, of Nicaragua.

Philadelphia (September 10, 2014)-On Tuesday night, September 16 at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia, Joe Hand Promotions and D & D Management will present the 2nd installment of Tuesday Night Fights.

This show is coming on the heels of a terrific inaugural card that took place on July 29 and played to a sold out crowd at the 2300 Arena.

The concept is to showcase local Philadelphia fighters in pro-am events that will feature the present and future of Philadelphia boxing.

The masterminds behind the series are Joe Hand Sr., Doc Nowicki and Dave Price.

To say Hand is a longtime fixture in boxing would be an understatement as he has been in the business dating back to him being one of the first co-managers of former world champion Joe Frazier.

Hand has managed, promoted and over the past 40 years has been the leading closed circuit and Pay Per View distributor for some of the biggest events all over the world.

He also is the owner of the most popular and successful Boxing Gym in Philadelphia for over two decades.

“We started the series not looking to make money on it, but to help the kids,” said Hand of the grass roots series.

“I see these fighters working hard in the gym everyday and they cant get fights. They are entitled to a career in boxing.”

Nowicki has been a very successful manager in the Philadelphia area as he guided the careers of Teon Kennedy and Mike Jones to world title opportunities and now has the same world title aspirations for undefeated Super Middleweight Jesse Hart.

“My vision of the series is young, hungry fighters that are exciting and getting opportunities in their hometown in even matched fights,” said Nowicki.

“We plan to keep the shows low budget. Not in talent but to make it affordable for the average person can come out and enjoy a night at the fights. LONDON (Sep 11) – Superstar Floyd Mayweather has admitted that his bout with Marcos Maidana this weekend will be one of his last.

The boxing icon faces off against the hard-hitting Maidana for a second time in succession, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this Saturday night, live on BoxNation, and has declared that he will be hanging up his gloves in 2015.

The 37-year-old Mayweather signed a six-fight deal, reported to be worth over $250m, with American TV network Showtime in 2013 and will have only two fights remaining on his contract after Maidana.

“I have only got two more fights after this,” said Mayweather. “As of right now my focus is on Maidana. I can’t focus on the two fights after this. I can’t say who the next two opponents will be, but they will be exciting fights. My next fight is in May and then September. A year from now will be my last fight,” he admitted.

The 11-time world champion in five weight divisions will, however, remain part of boxing as he looks to grow his promotional company.

“After those fights I just want to build the Mayweather Promotions brand. I have been in this sport my whole life and understand the business,” said Mayweather.

“The Mayweather brand is growing and we don’t know what the future holds. If I continue to work with good people like Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon there will be something positive.”

Despite showing little sign of decline the reigning two-weight world champion, who will be defending his WBA and WBC welterweight and light-middleweight titles against Maidana, has said it is imperative he gives his body sufficient rest.

“As you get older, you get wiser, smarter. You no longer grow physically but you do mentally. When I was younger I would go to the gym, every day, even as a professional,” he said.

“As you get older you have to let the body rest, let the body heal and rejuvenate so you can come back a lot stronger. Over the last few years I have let my body rest a lot more, eat a lot better although I cheat a little at Fatburger,” Mayweather said.

The undefeated star, with a record of 46-0, has also fired a warning shot to Maidana ahead of the bout admitting he is quicker than he’s ever been.

Some have questioned if he is as fleet footed as he once was, especially given how close the first encounter was with the Argentine, but Mayweather has poured scorn on such claims.

“When I am in the ring I know what I have to do. Facing so many different styles throughout the years, making adjustments is second nature. [My legs] looked good in the first fight. When a guy like that is extremely dirty I have to take my time,” he said.

“I am capable of changing. I’m faster this camp, a lot stronger, feel a lot better. We will have to see how the fight plays out. I am sure he is in good condition and we’ll see what he brings.

“I think I am faster because I am throwing more combinations this camp. The sparring partners have said I am a lot better. We have used some of the same guys and they say I am a lot stronger and faster this camp,” said Mayweather.

Dubbed ‘Money’ Mayweather, the Grand Rapids born star believes he is faced with a lot of unfair criticism and resentment from certain factions within boxing.

“I always say to myself. There is only three ways you can learn, ‘Hearing, seeing and doing.’ It’s hands on. I like to learn all three ways but when I am hands on I can master it. People embarking on the [Jose Luis] Castillo first fight, need to remember I beat him,” he said.

“From the beginning I am fighting the biased fans, biased writers and biased critics. There has been jealousy and envy from the beginning, but I can get through anything if I stay focused.”

MONTREAL (September 11, 2014) – North American Boxing Federation (NABF) lightweight champion Dierry “Dougy Style” Jean (26-1, 18 KOs) will make his first title defense September 27 against Mexican challenger Daniel “Canerito” Ruiz (32-7-2, 22 KOs) at the famed Bell Centre in Montreal.

The 12-round bout will be the co-feature on the “Red Dawn” card, headlined by a North American Boxing Association (NABA) light heavyweight title fight between two-time Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev (5-0-0, 5 KOs) and former International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud (24-2-0, 19 KOs).

In his last action this past June, Jean stopped Mario Perez (15-5-4) in the eighth round for the vacant NABF lightweight crown, five months after losing a unanimous 12-round decision (118-111, 116-112, 116-113) to International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson.

“Honestly,” Jean said, “I didn’t go to lightweight because I thought it was going to be harder at 140 pounds. I’m not getting any younger, so I thought it could open doors to fight in two divisions. I want to get a world title shot as soon as possible. I do feel a little stronger and imposing at 135. I don’t take any of my opponents lightly but, after this fight, I want a title shot at Omar Figueroa or Terence Crawford, at 135 or 140.”

Styles make fights and Buchinger, a technician from Slovakia, faces Azerbaijan striker Ragimov in a classic match-up of fighters with contrasting strengths.

Buchinger has won his last six fights, including the last two against Mikhail Malyutin (SUB1 – rear naked choke) and Sergei Golyaev (DEC3), respectively, this past August in M-1 Challenge 50 and in M-1 Challenge 47 last April.

Ragimov is riding a five-fight win streak, including the last two versus and Lee Morrison (SUB1 – arm-bar) and Aliyar Sarkerov (TKO2 – punches), respectively, this past June in M-1 Challenge 49 and last March in M-1 Challenge 46.
