Solis had this to say, “This match is the key we have been missing, the chance to fight for the heavyweight championship. This is what I have been dreaming and working toward since I first picked up a pair of boxing gloves. And Austin came back with, “I feel blessed to be in this position. I’m bringing the rain and you know what comes with that: the pain.”

Cloud is coming off of a very close hard fought decision win over former fighter of the year Glen Johnson. Cloud stated, “This is going to be a great fight and a great event. I know Zuniga is a puncher, and I am taking him very seriously. After I’m done with him—which I will do—I’ve got some bigger fish to fry.”

Heavyweight Contender Mike Marrone 19-1 (14KO) will be facing Darrel Madison 15-1(4KO). He was quoted saying, “My trainer Eddie Chambers and I are going to do great things. Vero Beach [Florida] is behind me. Darrel Madison is a good heavyweight like me. His nickname is “King David.” What I want him to know is we are developing the best jab in boxing. When we are done with him, his new nickname will be “Burger King.”

Heavyweight Mike Marrone wins by KO; Jimi Ninja Chaikong grabs big MMA win at Battle at the Beach 8 in Miami Beach!

Boxing Promoters Don King, Gary Shaw, & Tuto Zabala teamed up with Jeff Gibson of Elite Promotions for and exciting night of Boxing and MMA in Miami Beach dubbed “Battle at the Beach VIII”.

24 year old Heavyweight Mike Marrone 19-1(14KO) had a very big knockout win over Joseph Rabotte 8-14. Marrone a former Florida Golden Glove champion looked a bit rusty while working his way back into action. He fought in spots early and never seemed to engage until he dropped a bomb of a right hand in round five at 1:49.

Marrone is currently promoted by Don King and trains out of Buddy McGirts Gym in Vero Beach ,FL and was coming off of his first career first defeat in 2008 in Germany against Francesco Pianeta 20-0(12KO’s) who is now ranked #10 by the WBO. At the time of that fight, Marrone was recovering from the passing away of his younger brother Chris due to a car accident and took time off and now is back.

Jimi “Ninja” Chaikong got his first MMA victory over Steven Jenetis who was making his pro debut. Chaikong caught Jenetis in his guard and swiftly maneuvered into a triangle which put Jenetis out when the referee Jorge Ortiz waved it off midway through the first round. Congrats to Jimi Ninja for his first win in over 10 years of professional fighting and breaking his back along the way.. literally in 2001.

In a female boxing attraction Marianne Chubirka 5-4(3KO) won a majority decision over Deneise Jacobs who was making her debut. Churika and Jacobs engaged often with Chukirka landing the heavier shots often finding a home for the overhand right with a come forward style. The cards read 38-38 37-39 40-36.

MMA- Channing Ward won by triangle choke over Danceton Holcom both making pro debut.

Luis Cruz 1-0 won a unanimous decision victory over a very game Frederico Vega 1-1(1KO) both from Puerto Rico. The two fought hard from bell to bell often slugging over boxing. Cruz who is promoted by long time promoter Tuto Zabala and showed promise in his first fight for his new promoter.

In a MMA bout Sam Jones improved to 2-0 with a unanimous decision over Guillermo Marin who was making his debut.

In an action packed light welterweight matchup Roberto Lopez 3-0-2 was relentless with punches and pressure on the way to a unanimous decision over Southpaw Xavier Burges 4-1. All three judges scored the bout 40-36, as did I.

In the second knockout of the night came by way of heavyweight Donato DeMartiis 2-0(1KO) who landed a beautiful left right combo to the head of John Ramos that put out for the count late in round one. Ramos looked determined to land the big shot with several huge handed attempts only to be knocked out himself. It was a try hard effort that got the puncher knocked out by the boxer.

MMA fighter Sidney Carlton got a walkover win over Cedric James who was a no show who showed up at the weigh in’s and not the event.

JP Reese got his first MMA win over Johanner Correa when the fight was called due to strikes at 1:45 of the second round.

Ibragimov outboxes former Champion Oliver McCall, as the Heavyweight Factory invades the Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL.

Hollywood Florida–The Heavyweight Factory Promotions in association with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood Florida once again put together a magnanimous show for all those in attendance. The average boxing fan will appreciate a middleweight fight but even the casual fan appreciates the biggest of the big, banging it out for prowess amongst the biggest of men. Tonight was filled with brain shattering blows and the crowd loved the smorgasbord of pugilism it was served up.

In the main event of the night former world champion Oliver McCall 54-10 (37KO) stepped in against the game and ready to get it on, Timor Ibragimov 28-2(15KO). The ring savvy veteran McCall started off with a game plan of jabbing on his way in and trying to set up an overhand right, the same of which garnered him his boxing namesake and knocked a then world champ, Lennox Lewis to the canvas for good. As the fight progressed the younger, slicker Ibragimov used his youth and boxing skills to pepper his elder but respected opponent. McCall’s celebrated right hand opened a cut above the left eye of Ibragimov in the 5th but a culmination of ring savvy and a good cut man got Ibragimov through the fire and ultimately his good boxing and youthful exuberance gave him a majority decision.

In the Co-Feature, Haitian Dieuly “The Untamed Beast” Aristilde 7-3(1KO) faced Cuban born Henry Fuentes 11-1(7KO) in rematch of the heavily contested initial bout they had back in 2008. Aristilde had won the initial confrontation giving Fuentes his first and only loss in the square circle. This contest was one that was not the same outcome of the initial bout. Aristilde, coming off one of the most crowd pleasing fights in this writers history over the main event Oliver McCalls son, Elijah McCall; did not look like the same fighter of yore. The Untamed Beast was in an epic war with the younger McCall some time back and may have not recovered just yet as his legs were not as fresh as they once were and his oft tested chin not as granitesque as well. Fuentes had control from the get go and made a very concerted effort to show that his artillery has expanded since we last saw him. Fuentes put away Aristilde at 2:58 of the third round. Fuentes who improved his record to 11-1 as a heavyweight may need to get a bit more aggressive in order to challenge the upper echelon of boxing heavyweights.

The night began with possibly the fight of the night with Eisa Al Dah from Bristol, UK squaring off against the game Anthony Woods of Nassau, Bahamas who has been a cornerstone of South Florida boxing for some time. Both men exchanged valiantly with the Englishman ultimately rattling off a majority decision in a closely contested, crowd pleasing majority decision.

In the second fight of the night, heavyweight prodigy Clive Lowe, making his debut, of heavyweight factory lineage squared off against Tampa native Michael Greeson. Both heavyweights exchanged valiantly and often the first round with heavy blows much to the appreciation of the crowd. As the round came to a close both fighters threw heavy left hooks with Lowe getting the first and the worst of the exchange. Lowe was knocked down as the referee deemed Lowe unable to continue while administering the count.

In the third bout of the night Miami native Yasnay Consuegra 3-0 took it to Michigan journeyman Harvey Jolly 11-15(6KO). In a less then crowd pleasing bout Consuegra improved his record to 3- 0.

In a much anticipated bout with the Heavyweight Factory James Bryant 3-0(3KO), the crowd did not get their money’s worth and did not see the chiseled, former Miami Hurricanes alumna James Bryant strut his stuff. In a fight that echoed opponent versus winner Bryant came out to the inaugural bell with bad intentions but did not get to display them. His opponent fighter, Lujan Henderson was there to smell the daisy and collect a check as without being hit with so much a solid jab took a knee and was “knocked down” twice to give Bryant the TKO win. Not taking anything away from Bryant who looked the epitome of a young, hungry and ready heavyweight.

All in all another win for South Florida boxing its fans and what the Heavyweight factory is manifesting.

Yudel Jhonson stops Juliano Ramos; Brad Solomon steals the show and 0 in Miami on ESPN Friday Night Fights in Miami

Miami, FL (June 5, 2010)–Yudel Jhonson (7-0, 5 KO’s) wins with an eighth round TKO over Brazilian Juliano Ramos (16-4, 13 KO’s).

Yudell Jhonson, a Cuban Defector who won the silver medal in the Olympics in Athens, Greece looked much bigger than Ramos and was noticeably faster and more skilled. Ramos was reaching for the big shot early while getting countered often by Jhonson who often landed big straight left hands. Jhonson a southpaw controlled the fight with smart boxing and hard punches on Ramos who took the fight on short notice and was game in his attempt to outbox the puncher Jhonson. Ramos has been in with World Champions Kermit Cintron and up and coming superstar Mike Jones, however knocked out by both fighters. In the end Ramos was taking punishment from Jhonson and Telas Assimenios stepped in at of 2:39 the eighth round.

In the co-main event previously undefeated Puerto Rican amateur star Kenny Galarza (13-1, 13 KO’s) was beaten by sharp and impressive Brad Solomon (12-0, 4 KO’s).

Solomon controlled the entire fight by keeping Galarza away with great outside boxing and angles. Galarza, who has over 300 amateur fighters and a ton of power seemed to be waiting for his power shot while Solomon used his legs and size to keep the smaller Galarza away from him. Throughout the fight Solomon fought smart with long fast punches while frustrating Galarza who was deducted a point for a low blow in the sixth. Galarza never committed to an attack while leaving him short of his homerun punch. Solomon proved to be a contender and elevated his value in the welterweight division with this impressive victory. The cards read 99-90 and 100-89 twice.

In the first bout of the night Cleveland’s “Moneyshot” Yuardale Evans 8-0 (5KO) scored a nice unanimous decision over Chris “Smooth Operator” Green 3-2 fighting out of New Jersey. Evans controlled the fight with excellent jabs and strong punches knocking Green down in the fourth round. Green seemed not to have the punching power to keep Evans off of him and was often put back on his heels by Evans great jabs. A late fight cut over the right eye did not slow down the Cleveland fighter. The cards read 60-53 and 59-54 twice.

In the second d fight of the night, Cruiserweight Cuban Pedro Julio Rodriguez improved to 2-0 (2 KO) with a gift of an early stoppage over game Chris Boykins. Rodriguez commanded the fight early and landed a few heavy shots before Sam Burgos stepped in at 1:06 to spare Boykins, a premature stoppage in my opinion.

Former Cuban Amateur Star Jr. Middleweight Inocente Fiz Cuba 2-0 (2 KO) stopped Mario Ramos with the third punch of the fight. The early end came at 35 seconds of the first round with a perfectly placed body shot.

Welterweight Olympian Jonathan Gonzalez from San Juan, P.R. 8-0 (8 KO) looked sharp with a dominating TKO over Yoryi Estralla Santiago De Los Caballeros from Dominican Republic 10-3 (7 KO). The end came at 2:28 of round three when Sam Burgos stepped in to stop the action.

In attendance Yurkois Gamboa Randall Bailey Henry Fuentes Glen Johnson, Lara, Despanigne, Demetrius Andrade, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Joel Casamayor, Patricia Alcivar among other great boxing stars.

Hector “Macho” Camacho drops unanimous decision, Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar Knocks out Gomez and Shiver takes care of Martinez in Orlando.

In the main event of the evening living legend Hector Macho Camacho 79-6 from Puerto Rico and NY came out to face Mexican Saul Duran 37-16-2 (30KO) in style setting the stage for a nostalgic war of Puerto Rico versus Mexico. In the first round Camacho came out jabbing but caught with a straight right hand flash knocking down Camacho who recovered to win the rest of the round with straight left hands. The second round was nothing of significance with both fighters not connecting with much more then jabs. The third round had no one fighter getting the better of the scrum with both fighters effectively working off the jab and not getting caught with anything much of substance. The 4th and 5th rounds showed the age of both the fighters some with Camacho getting a point deducted in the 5th for holding. The sixth round had Camacho coming out with more energy and landing some shots. The 7th round was a fairly even round with Camacho using the ring wisely and getting his jab off. The ninth round was a spirited round for Macho who made Duran spit his mouth piece. The 8th round was a seemingly even round as both fighters were able to land some jabs. The 9th round had Duran coming out the aggressor and he stayed the aggressor throughout the round hitting Macho man with body shots all throughout the round. Every round in the fight was marred with lots of holding often instigated on the part of Camacho to conserve energy. The final bell was met with chants of MACHO MACHO MACHO giving Hector a burst of energy in the first few seconds. The round was status quo with a lot of jabbing and hugging. In the end the judges had it 97-91, 97-91, 96-91 all for the winner Saul Duran. In the end there was only thing that could put an end to Camacho’s illustrious career and he goes by the name of Father Time….

In a Co-Main Event, former National amateur champion Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar 2-0(2KO) and Laura Gomez 3-2 from Mexico stepped into the ring to battle and indeed they did just that. Alcivar hails from New York City’s Trinity gym and is trained by Martin Snow, also in her corner was Pete Kid Chocolate Quillin and Billy Padden. In the first round Patti Boom Boom came out with a tenacity not often seen in a fighter in only her second professional fight. Gomez the southpaw was befuddled by Alcivar‘s well executed game plan of moving left off the jab and setting up left hook to the body and head and occasionally throwing her big right hand. Round one was won by Alcivar but the game Gomez was a worthy opponent and she came to fight as well. The second round was more non-stop aggression on the part of Alcivar who started to work the right hand in the mix more and connect with it as well. She moved with the skill of much more seasoned fighter and slipped many of Gomez’s right hands and followed with a double left to the body and then the head and started connecting more and more as the round wore on. The third round we saw Alcivar’s overall talent level start to supersede Gomez’s and Boom Boom starting landing at will mixing in 4 and 5 punch combinations and taking the sap out of Gomez’s tree. The fight was stopped at -___ of the third round as Gomez’s corner had seen enough and threw in the towel. Alcivar moves to 2-0 and Gomez to 3-2. Alcivar credits her faith in god, great corner and hard work in her victorious effort.

In another Co-Main event Liliana Martinez 8-10(4KO) hailing from Dominican Republic got in with Jena “Cowboy” Shiver 11-4-1(2KO) hailing from St. Petersburg Florida for a 6 round bout. In the first round the “Cowgirl as Shiver is called got the best of Martinez using hard lead left hooks to set the pace. A minute in the second round the Cowgirl launched a solid right hand that momentarily staggered Martinez who recovered but that right followed by a couple more intermittently through the round. In the third round Martinez came out with a little more starch in her trunks and caught the Cowgirl with a few good punches probably winning her the round. It was another good busy round for both fighters as well. In the fourth and final round Shiver caught Martinez with a straight right hand putting Martinez on previously starched shorts from the last round. The fifth round started with both girls trying to set up a right hand but neither connected with anything of real substance and the Cowgirl got the better of the round landing more solid jabs and lead left hooks. The 6th was more of the same with the Cowgirl winning a unanimous decision over the very tough Martinez in a very entertaining match up.

For the undercard…..

In a very entertaining opening bout of the night lightweights Cesar Cisneros from Bradenton Florida and Jesus Lule from Ft Myers Florida brawled while they both made their professional debuts. Cisneros showed more technical skill while Lule showed an iron chin and huge heart. Cisneros won a very close majority decision with the cards reading 38-38 and 39-37 twice. The winner here.. the fans.

Paul Marfort made a successful debut with a dominating TKO1 over Nathon Oritz fighting out of Lakeland Florida. Marfort fighting out of Winter Haven FL had Cruiserweight contender Francisco Palacios took the first round over with a big right hand that put Ortiz into a shell and took many shots until downed at 1:47 of there first.

Former Cuban amateur standout Rances Barthelemy 5-0(3KO) won spirited unanimous decision over Milwaukee’s “Superstar” James Owens 4-1 (2KO). Barthelemy overwhelmed previously undefeated Owens early in the first. Owens survived the first and made the second round a bit more competitive but was clearly the less skilled fighter. The cards read all the cards read 40-35.

Danny Pastrana 2-1 fought hard with a unanimous decision win over Carmelo Almodovar 0-1. A bloodied Almodovar was knocked down in the second round and seemed to never regain his legs however showed amazing heart to finish the fight and fought hard to the final bell. The cards read 40-35.

Adrian Perez 5-2-1(1KO) hailing from Brazil went to work on Roger Rosa 1-2 hailing from Brazil. In a very competitive fight both fighters showed flashes of brilliance mixed with inexperience. Perez should the typical heart and valor of his Mexican brethren but ran into an equally tough Brazilian in Rosa. Rosa used straight left hand hands from his southpaw style to catch Perez and Perez was pretty effective with the lead right hand against the lefty. Both fighters put forth a very spirited effort with a very close decision going to the score cards. In the end the cards read 38-38, 38-36, and 39-37 for the winner by majority decision Adrian Perez. The crowd was both excited and equally upset with the outcome.

Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar Returns to the Ring in Orlando.

Andre Berto stops Quintana and retains the WBC Welterweight title. Caballero takes care of Yordan for WBA belt.

Sunrise, FL — Fighting for Haiti was the name of the card and the name of the game tonight for WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto. Berto 26-0 (20KO) retains his WBC strap with an exciting KO win over Carlos Quintana 27-3(21). Berto was able to fight through an early fight torn bicep muscle to overpower the southpaw Quintana.

Berto showed blazing speed right from the opening bell in round one however, was knocked down by the southpaw early, the clean shot was called a rabbit punch, and a knockdown was not credited.

In round 2 Quintana caught Berto with a big straight left that stunned the champ and turned the boxing match into a slugfest.

Round three found both fighters throwing mean shots and Berto catching Quintana with a clever left hook mid round and putting him on the ropes with a variety of body head shots. Quintana was deducted 1 point for hitting behind the head, which he did often.

Berto answered the bell of the fourth round with fast sharp punches, but kept the southpaw in front of him creating a power punch fest. Berto’s pressure served up intense infighting that produced a barrage of heavy shots.

The tempo was just as fierce in the 5th round with several exchanges as these two warriors battled for punching positioning by doing just that, punching. In the seventh Berto came out swinging hard and caught Quintana with some crisp shots all the while being the aggressor. In the eight came the end for Quintana, who was caught with a barrage of crushing right hands. Berto’s onslaught lasted a good minute before referee Tommy Kimmons called an end to the contest at 2:16 of the eighth round with a TKO accredited to Berto’s records. This was a great showing for Berto who is coming off close to a one year layoff. Berto, some may say looked less than perfect but Quintana’s unorthodox style can make a great fighter look average. Berto retained his WBC belt and looks to move up the ladder for a possible super fight in the near future.

“My knockout was pretty vicious,” said Berto. “It may open up their eyes a little bit. But then again they have to look at I’ve been off for a long time so it’s only going get better from here.”

The card, promoted as “Fighting for Haiti” due to, part of the proceeds will benefit the Haitian earthquake relief fund. Berto was born in Florida and his parents were born in Haiti. To help rebuild Haiti, Berto started the Berto Dynasty Foundation.

In the Co-Main Event featherweight Celestino Caballero 34-2 (23 Kos) of Panama city Panama claimed the WBA World title strap with a unanimous decision win over Daud “Cino” Yordan 25-1(19KO) hailing all the way from Indonesia. The longtime WBC and IBF champion Calallero dropped Yordan in the second as a result of a Yordan falling into sharp uppercut. Caballero used his height and reach well throughout the fight keeping the Indonesian fighter at the end of his sharp punches often throwing multi punch combinations at a high connect rate. Yordan found a home for a strong left hook, however not nearly enough as the Mexican’s punch output proved to be too much for Yordan. The twelfth round was wildly entertaining when Yordan stunned Caballero with a series of hard shots, but the attack was a little to late as Caballero weathered the late storm and captured the title with a unanimous decision with the cards reading 119-108 120-107 118-108.

Antwone Smith 18-1 (9kos) from Miami Florida took it to Franklin Gonzalez 13-5 (9kos) of the Dominican Republic in the 10 round welterweight fight. Smith, who often used a George Foreman-like infighting techniques, worked uppercuts and body shot throughout the fight. The end came at 2:40 in the third when Smith caught Gonzalez with a brutal liver shot which left Gonzalez on the canvas for some time after the bell.

Jonathan ‘El Conquistador” Cepeda 8-0 (7KO) from West Palm Beach dominated Shadrack Kipruto 18-15(10KO) with constant heavy shots from the opening bell. Kipruto was dropped in the first and rounds from constant pressure on the Kenyan fighter who looked off balance and awkward. A huge left hook finally ended the bout @2:31 of the second round.

In a very entertaining fight light welterweight Joseph Elegele 6-0(4KO) stopped the game and tough Mario Hayes with a straight left hand in the third round at 2:51. Hayes was also knocked down with a perfect left hook earlier in the 3rd which ultimately set up the KO. Elegele was the 2008 National Golden Gloves runner up, who lost a close and controversial decision to Danny O’Conner.

In a one sided Jr. Middle weight bout Yhudel Johnson 6-0 (4 KO’s) completely dominated Chris Grays 9-20(2KO) who got knocked down twice in the first round did not make it out of the first. Referee stoppage at 2:04.

In a great second fight of the night Willie Monroe (8-0 3ko’s) looked both the slicker and the more powerful puncher beating Ibaheim King 7-2 (2ko’s) to a decision in the six round fight. Scores were all 60-54 for Monroe.

In the first bout of the evening, Yunier Dorticos 4-0 (4ko’s) knocked Zack Ziegler 3-1 (2 KO’s) to his knees with a well placed liver shot at 1:24 in the first in a very one sided fight. Ziegler’s 3 wins must have some by way of Ragu container.

Notable boxing attendees where, Randall Bailey Andre Dirrell, Francisco Palascios, John Jackson, and more.

Johnny Schulz and Dan Stasiukiewicz reporting ringside.

Be sure to listen to the Sunday Sizzler at 4pm with interview from the winning fighters.

Spadafora Wins by TKO8 while the Vikings ship sinks at the War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale!

A heavy Pittsburgh contingency watched as undefeated welterweight and former IBF lightweight champion Paul “The Pittsburgh Kid” Spadafora 44-0-1(18KO) brought a throw back style and look to the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale while picking up a TKO8 win over Italian Ivan Fiorletta 24-6-2. The southpaw Spadafora controlled the entire fight with slick boxing excellent footwork, and brutal body shots. Spadafora had to fight through plenty off rough housing from Fiorletta throughout the fight, referee Frank Gentile had his hands full all night until he waived his arms in the 8th round. Fiorletta took a point in round six for throwing a couple knees to Spadaforas’ head, while throwing elbows and holding excessively throughout the fight. Spadafora looked much improved as the fight wore on gaining speed and accuracy. He often landed sharp three punch combinations mostly ending with a right body hook that connected almost always. The undefeated Spadafora ran off track and had a 32 month layoff and becoming incarcerated due to a string of drug, alcohol and weapon charges.

Local heavyweight and fan favorite Eric “The Viking” Leander 9-1(8KO) was violently knocked out by fomer amatuer standout Jason Barnett 12-10(6KO) in the Co-Main event of the night in front of a huge Viking crowd donned in horns cheering on their fighter. The first round started with Barnett catching the Viking with an array of jabs and setting up a booming right hand that sent the Viking to the canvas. The round ended with Barnett peppering the Viking with a four punch, right left combination that sent Leander to the canvas and was barely saved by the bell and staggered to his corner. The next round started with an exhausted Leander just able to muster a pawing jab and getting beat to the punch. A hard right hand into a solid left hook dropped Leander at :41 seconds in the second round giving Leander his first loss of his career. Leander brings no amateur experience and a very dangerous brawl and maul style that failed versus a skilled boxer, as the smaller Barnett proved tonight.

In the third fight of the night Willie Herring 12-6-3 pulled off another big upset with a second round KO over Dieuly “The Untamed Beast” Aristilde 7-2, who was coming off of the biggest win of his career, a KO over Elijah McCall just a few weeks ago in a war. Herring started the fight before the opening bell with some mental warfare playing to the crowd and mocking Aristilde. Which had its payday as Aristilde left his game plan of boxing and setting up punches in the corner. Instead he chose to engage in a power right hand contest. The Untamed Beast was knocked down in the first round and in the second with a great left hook that downed the Haitian fighter for good at 1:55. This was a tough loss for the proud Haitian, and a questionable one in regards to why his team would rush him into the ring just weeks after a war.

Rances Barthelemy 4-0 (3) defeated Robert Guillen 5-6-3 (1).Barthelemy and dominated the action in a four round jr lightweight fight. Both men traded some good body shots but Barthelemy was the clear winner of most of the exchanges. The cards read 39-36 40-35 40-35.

Light heavyweight Abdulah Dobey 4-0 (4) earned a big KO3 win over Gevonte Davis 4-6-1 (2). Dobey came out swinging hard to the opening bell and knocked Davis down in the 2nd with a stiff body shot and in the third with stiff right hands, doubled them up, staggering and dropping Davis to the canvas at 1:53 for the final count.

Yoelvis Gamboa improved to 4-0(2KO) with an excellent left hook KO over Milton Ramos 2-2-2. Gamboa showed improvement since his debut, however still very raw. Gamboa the younger brother of world featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamoa 17-0, slipped a big right hand and landed a crushing left hook that ended the bout at 1:42 of the third round.

Cruiserweights Sullivan Berrera 3-0(3KO) and Reggie Pena 6-3(1KO) rumbled in round one and exchanged wild shots on the way to an exciting first round. Pena got deducted one point for holding round 2. The fight ended with a perfectly placed left hook by Berrera on the chin of Pena dropping him to the canvas in a violent manner. The end came at 1:45 in the second round.

So, the Pittsburgh Kid is back, the Viking got mauled, the Beast tamed, and some great looking prospects showed their stuff in an exciting card in Fort Lauderdale tonight.

Notable fighters in attendance were Allan Jackson, Jameel McLine, Joel Julio, John David Jackson, Yorkis Gamboa and Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker…JSizzle and NYDanny Stasiukiewicz reporting ringside.

Dieuly “Untamed Beast” Aristilde Knocks Out Elijah McCall Tuesday Night in Hollywood Florida!

Miami’s DJ Laz got the party started for the Clash of the Heavyweights Tuesday Night Fights at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood Florida. An energetic musical intro got the crowd ready for a great night of showcasing talented raw young heavyweights.

Boxings’ glamour division has always been the heavyweights, home to such icons as Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and Mike Tyson. The Heavyweight Factory has come to resurrect the heavyweight division. What they have done is taken the finest athletes in the nation, young men who have succeeded in other sports, put them in the gym with trainers who have been to the top before. Such as, former heavyweight champions Michael Moore and Oliver McCall. And now they unleash their talents in the boxing ring.

In a wildly exciting main event Dieuly “Untamed Beast” Aristilde 6-1 scored a big upset knockout win over Elijah McCall, son of former Heavyweight Champion Oliver McCall. Dieully barely made it out of round one when McCall knocked him down 3 times. Dieuly landed huge right hands and left hooks from the opening bell proving McCall to have a sturdy chin but was floored by big right hands from McCall who easily won the first round 10-7. The second round and third rounds were a crowd pleasing brawl of heavyweight proportions which saw both fighters landing big shots but the Beast getting the better of the exchanges. Dieuly answered the fourth round bell possessed and landed several huge left hooks and right hands finally put McCall down at 1:13 of round 4. This fight was an amazing brawl and Aristilde showed unbelievable heart by getting off the canvas to score a monstrous knockout. This fight gave the fans their money worth which is ironic because most people paid money to see McCall’s father who was scratched from the card due to a recent drug possession incarceration.

Miami native and Florida State University graduate Michael Mitchell 1-0 made a successful debut with a hard fought UD win over Robert Turner 0-2. The former ‘Noles safety Mitchell’s raw talent was evident as he controlled the pace and stalked Turner during the entire fight. The 6’3” 215# Mitchell won all three cards at 39-37.

Former University of Miami fullback James Bryant was very impressive and showed great natural ability with a big knockout at 2:00 of round 1 over Roy Boykins 1-4. Bryant a 6’ 3” 245 pound banger showed great form while easily taking out Boykins.

Heavyweight Factory’s Roger Pinckney made a successful professional debut as he knocked Sean McPhee down in a quick manner with a stinging uppercut in a fight that was a bit sloppy from the opening bell. The end came quickly at 1:20 of round 1.

In the second fight of the night Cuban defector Luis Ortiz handily disposed of Lamar Davis (4-2) by first round TKO. Ortiz had an extensive amateur background in Cuba including a loss to Odlanier Solis. The end came at 1:28 of round one.

Cuban Yasmay Consuegra 1-0(1KO) dismantled Curtis Harper 0-1 with a barrage of punches all started with a big right hand that buckled Harper and sent him for a chicken walk across the ring. Referee Frank Gentile ended the bout 1:40 in the 1st round. Harper was another product of The Heavyweight Factory. Both fighters were making their respective debuts.

Former University of Miami and NFL running back Quadtrine Hill earned a big 1st round knockout over Vashawn Tomlin 0-2. Hill a southpaw, rocked Tomlin with a early straight left hand which was a very quick start to a very quick finish. Tomlin was mercifully counted out at 1:50 of round 1.

Notable attendees- Evander Holyfield-Shannon Briggs- Zuri Lawrence-Dyah Davis- Micheal Moore, Bubby McGirt and Dj Laz

Former Heavyweight Champion Oliver McCall busted for crack, AGAIN! Zuri Lawrence fight Scratched!

Oliver ….not again! Boxing suffers another ugly black eye. Former World Heavyweight Champion Oliver “The Atomic Bull” McCall is currently sitting in the Broward County Jail after being arrested on February 13th for POSSESSION OF COCAINE, POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, and PROBATION VIOLATION. McCall was schedule to fight Zuri Lawernce February 16th, no replacement has been found and the fight has been scratched. I spoke with a representative from the Heavyweight Factory, the promotion company handling the event, and they assured us the show will go and there will still be fireworks at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood FL.

The 44 year old McCall is best known for winning the WBC Heavyweight Championship 1994 after scoring an upset knockout victory over Lennox Lewis, in Lewis’ home town of London, England. This was only to be followed by his infamous, in-ring meltdown in the rematch with Lewis.

McCall’s career has often been mottled by several stints in drug rehabilitation facilities and arrests for disorderly behavior. In January, 2006 he was arrested by police in Nashville, Tennessee, who say they had to use a Taser on McCall after he tried running away from officers trying to arrest him for trespassing in a public housing development. Police told reporters that McCall had in his possession a glass pipe and a five-dollar bill containing a small amount of cocaine. They say the 40-year-old McCall later spat at an officer and threatened to kill him. He was held on $299,000 bond and charged with criminal trespass, resisting arrest, assaulting police officers, threatening to kill an officer, and being a fugitive from justice on charges in his home state of Virginia. He was released on 8 May 2006. McCall was arrested for possession of crack in September of 2007 in which he is currently still on probation for. He was scheduled for release of probation in April.

On a recent comeback trail McCall defeated Australian John Hopoate by 2nd round T.K.O on the 22nd of May, 2009 for the vacant IBA Intercontinental heavyweight belt. McCall dominated the fight and knocked Hopoate down twice. He defended his IBA continental belt against Franklin Lawrence by a ten round unanimous decision on the 21st of August 2009 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. On the 23rd October 2009, He defended his IBA continental Title again by a ten round unanimous decision against 6?8 Lance Whitaker.

This story pains me to write. This is an absolute disrespect to the sport of boxing and to the champions before and after him. Oliver, in my opinion you should have to forfeit the title of champion due to this selfless act! You are a disgrace to the sport and the young kids who look up to the hard fought champions for hope and inspiration.

Google Offers vs. Groupon? Nah! Real rival to online coupons is bulletin board.(Business)

The Christian Science Monitor January 26, 2011 | Wood, Janine Byline: Janine Wood Despite all the hoopla about online ads and coupons, most of America still advertises in amazingly archaic ways: a sign in a shop window, a business card on a bulletin board, a flier under the windshield wiper. go to web site groupon phoenix

It’s not only cheap – printed fliers and a few pushpins – it’s also effective. “I’ve never paid for advertising,” says Jeanne Pinsof Nolan, owner of The Organic Gardener in Glencoe, Ill. Five years ago, she posted a flier on a grocery store bulletin board and now has some 150 clients. “My advertising is my flier,” she says.

This tranquil corner of the advertising world is huge – by one estimate 90 percent of ads are not digitized – and increasingly under scrutiny by online ad companies. One reason national ad giant Google was willing to pay a whopping $6 billion for online coupon company Groupon was the latter’s ability to bring local businesses onto the Internet.

Now, Google is reported to be testing its own local ad service, dubbed Google Offers. By bringing mom and pop stores online, Google, Groupon, and all the other group coupon sites hope to reap a bonanza.

“The percentage of local advertising that is not digital – and that’s most of it – will change because the cost of advertising online is really low,” says Frank Mulhern, associate dean of research at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Ill.

How quickly the online companies will succeed is another matter. Local online ad spending will grow nearly 18 percent this year, according to Borrell Associates Inc., a research and consulting firm in Williamsburg, Va. That’s a little faster than the almost 14 percent rise forecast for total online ad spending. Online coupons are growing faster – up 50 percent between 2009 and 2010 – and worth more than $10 billion, Gordon Borrell says.

Still, Internet ad salespeople will have to convince people like Peter Sykes. Laid off from a hunting store, he now rides his bike around Riverwoods, Ill., stuffing fliers into mailboxes to promote his fly fishing and hunting instruction. Would he offer a big discount on Groupon to generate more traffic? “I’m not a techie,” he says.

“The sites offer great deals to the consumers at the expense of the small businesses,” says Utpal Dholakia, a marketing professor at Rice University’s business school in Houston, and author of a recent study on Groupon. He found that 32 percent of the businesses surveyed said their Groupon promotion was unprofitable. More than 40 percent of the respondents said they would not run the promotion again.

“It’s like dynamite,” says Jay Goltz, a Chicago business owner and blogger for The New York Times. He had 900 customers respond to his Groupon ad, but is unsure how many were already customers. In addition, he questions how many people will return to his stores as repeat customers. “It’s a great invention, but it could blow up your house,” he adds. “I wouldn’t predict the end of the bulletin board.” The old world and the new world collide at Newport Coffee House here in Bannockburn, Ill. The bulletin board is so crowded that a table is positioned nearby to catch the overflow. While waiting in line for coffee, customers can check out the Pet Pal dog-walking service or pick up a schedule of language classes.

“We get about one or two businesses a day asking to post on our board,” says owner Nevair Jindoyan.

However, after perusing the bulletin board, many customers grab a coffee, sit down with friends, pull out smart phones, and scroll for deals.

“Ooh,” says a customer checking her BlackBerry, “I can get $50 off on a $100 massage from Groupon today.” Another customer scrolls down to WeDeal and reveals the day’s discount to the rest of the table.

There are many other deals available online. Foursquare, a mobile social-networking game, allows members to “check in” at local businesses and receive “specials,” which are discounts for loyal customers. A business can tap into this by offering tips at various places where would-be customers congregate. “For instance, a fitness trainer could build [his or her] following by offering tips at various gyms around the city,” says Erin Gleason, Foursquare’s spokeswoman. site groupon phoenix

LivingSocial, another daily-deal site with more than 10 million subscribers, offers ways to blend small businesses to take advantage of online advertising. “It may not be that we have the organic farmer, but we can work with the organic farmer and the local winery to create a tailored package,” says Korina Buhler, a spokeswoman for LivingSocial.

Ms. Pinsof Nolan, owner of The Organic Gardener, recently developed a website and has considered Groupon. But she continues to get most of her customers from her old standby, the flier with the tear-off phone numbers at the bottom.

“There’s nothing like seeing something right in front of your face,” says Regina Ruggiero, whose company, New York Blackboard of New Jersey, has been making bulletin boards since 1944.

And sometimes the old technology actually trumps the new one.

“I’m thinking of canceling my online dating service,” says Judy Brinkerhoff-Smith, who paints portraits of families and their pets. Her bulletin board brochure prompted 30 calls from single men, and she ended up dating one of the callers. She welcomes the calls and says, “We are all just trying to make a connection.” Wood, Janine
