Ruiz retains interim crown with exciting decison over Arce

Hugo Ruiz retained the WBA Interim Bantamweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Francisco Arce in a bout where the combatants traded four knockdowns in the town where both fighters reside in Los Mochis, Mexico

Arce got on the board first as he dropped Ruiz in round three from a combination. Ruiz scored a flash knockdown in round five when Arce’s glove hit the canvas. In round eight, Arce landed a flush left hook that sent Ruiz to the deck. Ruiz scored the most telling knockdown when a right hand knocked Arce through the ropes in round eleven.

Ruiz, 118 lbs of Los Mochis, Mexico is now 28-1. Arce, 118 lbs of Los Mochis was attempting to join his brother Jorge, who won the WBO Super Bantamweight title last week in Las Vegas as a champion but he falls to 31-7.

Bogere edges Beltran in thrilling fight

Sharif Bogere scored a close unanimous decision over Ray Beltran in a ten round Lightweight bout at Buffalo Bills in Primm, Nevada

Bogere took most of the early rounds as he landed quick shots with both hands. The fight turned in both round’s three and four as numerous headbutts caused bad cuts on each guy.

Beltran suffered a cut over his left eye in round three and Bogere suffered the same fate in the next round.

With both guys dripping blood into their eyes, each man fought at times with reckless abandon.

Beltran made a stand in round’s six through eight he rocked Bogere with a right left combination in round seven and landed a thudding body punch in round eight that had Bogere holding and eventually falling in what could have been ruled a knockdown but referee Robert Byrd ruled a slip.

Bogere moved and boxed just enough to get to the finish line and win the decision by scored of 97-93; 96-94 and 96-94.

Bogere, 134 lbs of Kampala, Uganda is now 20-0. Beltran, 135 lbs of Los Mochis, Mexico is now 24-5.

Prized Heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell made short work of Evans Quinn be scoring a knockout in round one of a scheduled ten round bout.

The two fought evenly in the first moment until Mitchell landed a big overhand right that staggered Quinn and a follow up combination sent Quinn down to his knees and referee Joe Cortez counted ten at the 2:38 mark of round one.

Mitchell, 245 lbs of Brandywine, MD is now 22-0-1 with sixteen knockouts. Quinn, 217 lbs of Bluefields, Nicaragua is now 20-6-1.

After the fight, Mitchell commented, “He couldn’t handle my power. He couldn’t handle it.”

Perez trashes Terry in Three

Michael Perez remained undefeated with a third round stoppage over Ira Terry in a scheduled eight round Lightweight bout in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Perez dropped Terry in round two from a combination. In round three, Perez landed a huge overhand right that staggered and ultimately dropped Terry to the canvas where the referee stopped the fight at 2:19 of round three.

Perez, 136 lbs of Lares, PR is now 13-0-1 with seven knockouts. Terry, 133 lbs of Memphis, TN is now 24-5.

Jonathan Vidal remained undefeated with an eight round unanimous decision over former four-time world title challenger Cecilio Santos in a Super Bantamweight fight.

Vidal controlled the bout and looked like he scored an apparent knockdown in the final round when he landed a right to the top of the head but it was ruled a slip. That lit a brief fire under Santos who landed a couple shots that had Vidal holding on.

Vidal, 118 lbs of Guaynabo, PR is now 16-0. Santos, 124 lbs of Mexico is now 25-16-3.

Braulio Santos scored a first round stoppage over Felix Rivera in a scheduled four round Featherweight bout.

Santos landed a thudding left to the body that sent Rivera down for the ten count at 1:42 of the opening frame.

Santos, 126 lbs of Carolina, PR is now 2-0 with two knockouts. Rivera, 124 lbs is 0-2.

Jonuel Tapia scored a four round unanimous decision over Emill Gonzalez.

Tapia is now 8-1. Gonzalez is 4-5.

Stores push summertime ‘Christmas’ sales

AP Online July 19, 2010 | ANNE D'INNOCENZIO Santa in the summer?

Retailers are pumping still more energy this year into trying to get shoppers to loosen their purse strings early for Christmas with sparkly ornaments, holiday music and special prices. In July.

Target Corp. is entering the game for the first time, with a one-day online sale starting Friday on 500 items from clothing to Blu-ray disc players that’s modeled after sales typically held Thanksgiving weekend. And Sears and Toys R Us are dramatically promoting “Christmas in July” online and in the stores based on the success they saw in last year’s efforts.

“We really wanted to create that sense of excitement, that sense of urgency,” said Target spokeswoman Molly Hanus.

Retailers pushed Christmas promotions as early as September during the recession as they competed for shoppers’ dwindling dollars and tried to get them back into stores. Some recession-weary shoppers have been glad to spread out the cost of the holidays, especially if discounts average 40 percent like Target’s. But others may be turned off by the snowflakes and Santas and glitz. And stores are divided as well. website shoe buy coupon code

“It’s smarter to buy this early,” said Ebony Rios, a 17-year-old high school student shopping over the weekend at Toys R Us in Times Square, where a Santa in sunglasses lounged in a swimming pool in one ad. The Clayton, N.C., resident _ who said she spent $200 on her nieces and nephews at the store’s online summer sale last year _ plans to take advantage again this year.

But Tammy Perez, 28, from Bloomington, Ind., wasn’t ready.

“It’s too hot to think about Christmas,” said the administrative assistant, also at Toys R Us Sunday. “The earliest I will shop will be in October.” Some merchants, including J.C. Penney and shoe.buy.com, agree.

“Customers don’t like it when you push Christmas too early,” said Mike Boylston, J.C. Penney’s chief marketing officer.

That’s especially true when shoppers are already putting off buying anything until the moment they actually need it, he said.

Janet Hoffman, global managing partner at Accenture’s retail practice, called July holiday sales “a risky bet.” Shoppers could be inspired to buy more, but summer promotions also can hurt back-to-school buying and depress December business, she said.

Merchants are taking a variety of tactics:

_ Target customers can find a link at Target.com for what the chain is calling “Back in Black,” which includes Philips Blu-ray disc players for $99.99 and Liberty of London dresses for $14.99. The 24-hour sale, which starts at 3 a.m. Friday Eastern time, will not be advertised in Target stores.

_ Sears Holdings Corp.’s Sears.com and Kmart.com shoppers are invited to “Christmas Lane” to shop for lights, ornaments and outdoor decor, and the websites are temporarily offering free shipping on all orders worth $39 or more.

In more than 500 Sears stores, holiday tunes will be playing at least through July 25 in the seasonal aisles, where customers can touch holiday merchandise liked stuffed animals, ornaments and light-up porcelain houses. Last year’s “Christmas in July” included 200 stores. shoebuycouponcodenow.com shoe buy coupon code

_ Toys R Us is promoting its summertime discounts more heavily than last year with deals of the day and free shipping through Saturday.

Natalie Norris-Howser, spokeswoman at Sears Holdings, said the company’s summertime holiday promotions did “very well” last year and it may extend the sale as they did last year to appeal to cautious consumers.

“They’re people in general that don’t have the expendable cash,” she said. The event allows shoppers to see what’s going to be available so they can budget or put items on layaway, she said.

But many other Americans are in the same situation as Isabel Velazquez, 39, a Toys R Us shopper who said she can’t think about spending right now.

“I just got laid off,” the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., resident said.

Effect of maternal vitamin and mineral restrictions on the body fat content and adipocytokine levels of WNIN rat offspring.(Brief communication)

Nutrition & Metabolism October 15, 2007 | Lagishetty, Venu; Nandiwada, Vijaya Bhanu; Kalashikam, Rajender Rao; Manchala, Raghunath Authors: Venu Lagishetty (corresponding author) [1,2]; Vijaya Bhanu Nandiwada [1]; Rajender Rao Kalashikam [1]; Raghunath Manchala [1] Background Maternal under-nutrition impairs intrauterine development and increases adiposity, insulin resistance (IR) and associated metabolic disturbances in the later life of the offspring [1]. We reported earlier that chronic 50 percent restriction of minerals (MR) or vitamins (VR) in Wistar NIN (WNIN) rat dams increased the body fat percentage in offspring and decreased their insulin response to glucose challenge [2, 3]. We also reported that increased oxidative stress and impaired antioxidant status were associated with maternal VR but not MR induced changes in offspring [2, 3]. We now report whether or not increased body adiposity in the VR and MR offspring is associated with increased abdominal adiposity, altered expression of adipocytokines and insulin resistance.

Adipocytokines, the adipocyte derived bioactive molecules, mediate the systemic effects of obesity on health and regulate lipid metabolism as well as IR [4]. In fact the adipocytokine: leptin is important in the pathogenesis of eating disorders and obesity and mediates the neuro-endocrine response to food deprivation [5]. Overproduction of TNF-[alpha] modulates IR in obesity [6]. Furthermore, reduced expression of adiponectin and low plasma adiponectin levels are implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity and type 2 diabetes [7]. Indeed, mice lacking adiponectin display IR in some conditions [8, 9]. Considering that maternal VR and MR increased body adiposity and impaired glucose stimulated insulin secretion in the offspring, we have determined whether or not altered expression of adipocytokines was associated with these changes.

Methods Experimental Animals All animal experimental procedures were carried out in accordance with the ‘principles of laboratory animal care’ (NIH publication no. 85-23, revised 1985) and with the approval of the “Institute’s ethical committee on animal experiments” at National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, India.

Female, weaning WNIN rats obtained from National Centre for Laboratory Animal Sciences, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, India were used in these experiments. The protocol used for animal grouping, feeding, breeding and maintenance was described by us previously [2, 3]. Briefly, the rats received for 12 weeks, a control (AIN 93G) diet or a similar diet with 50 percent (of control diet) restriction of mineral/vitamin mixture, mated with control males and continued on their respective diets through out gestation. At parturition, a third of the restricted dams were shifted to control diet while the remaining continued on restricted diets. Half the number of pups born to these restricted dams were weaned on to control diet while the other half continued on the respective restricted diet.

Blood was collected from the offspring (at six moths of age) after an overnight fast and used for the determination of plasma glucose, insulin and adipocytokines. Insulin resistance (HOMA IR) was computed and the body fat of the animals content was determined by the TOBEC method as described by us earlier [2, 3]. The animals were sacrificed by carbon dioxide inhalation, epididymal fad pads were excised quickly and their fresh weight determined.

Adipocytokine levels Plasma leptin and TNF – [alpha] concentrations were determined using a rat specific enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (R&D Systems, MN, USA). Rat specific RIA kit (Linco Research, MO, USA) was used to determine plasma adiponectin levels. The lower limits of detection were less than 22 pg/mL for leptin; 5 pg/mL for TNF-[alpha] and 1 ng/mL for adiponectin.

Statistical analysis Data was subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS package (version 10.0) and values presented as mean [+ -] SEM. Data was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Post Hoc least significant difference (LSD) test. Wherever the heterogeneity was observed in the variance, differences between groups were tested by the non-parametric Mann – Whitney U test. The differences were considered significant only if p < 0.05.

Results Body fat content, epididymal fat pad weight and insulin resistance In line with the high body fat percentage observed in the offspring of VR and MR rat dams, the fresh weight of the epididymal fat pads was significantly higher in them (compared to controls) at six months of age (Table 1 &2). Rehabilitating VR mothers from parturition and their offspring from weaning (VSP) but not weaning VR offspring to control diet (VSW) reversed the body fat percentage and epididymal fat pad weight to levels comparable to controls (Table 1). While both the rehabilitation regimes mitigated the maternal MR induced increase in body fat percentage of the offspring only partially, MSP but not MSW could rescue the increased weight of the epididymal fat pad (Table 2).

Table 1 caption: Body weight, fat content and plasma adipocytokine levels in the offspring of vitamin restricted WNIN rat dams on postnatal day 180 [table “” not found /]
Table 2 caption: Body weight, fat content and plasma adipocytokine levels in the offspring of mineral restricted WNIN rat dams on postnatal day 180 [table “” not found /]
Despite their significant effects on the body fat percentage and epididymal fat pad weight in the offspring, neither maternal VR nor MR had any effect on their IR as assessed by HOMA IR (Table 1 &2). As a corollary, the two rehabilitation regimes had no effect on this parameter.

Effect of maternal vitamin restriction on adipocytokine levels Plasma adiponectin levels were significantly decreased (p < 0.05) and leptin levels increased (p < 0.05) in VR offspring (Table 1) compared to the control (VC) offspring on post natal day 180. However plasma TNF-[alpha] levels were comparable among different groups of the offspring. In line with the effects seen on the increased percentage of body fat and fresh weight of epididymal fat pads, VSP but not VSW corrected the changes in adiponectin and leptin levels by six months of age (Table 1). here body fat percentage calculator

Effect of maternal mineral restriction on adipocytokine levels Chronic MR in WNIN rat dams decreased both plasma adiponectin and leptin levels significantly (p < 0.05) in the offspring (Table 2) compared to controls (MC). Similar to the observations made in the offspring of rehabilitated VR dams, MSP but not MSW corrected these changes. Plasma TNF-[alpha] levels were comparable among the different groups of the offspring (Table 2).

Discussion Increased body adiposity and/or altered lipid metabolism not only precede but also lead to tissue insulin resistance [10, 11]. Inline with these reports, the offspring of both VR and MR rat dams had higher body fat percentage compared to controls. The increase in fresh weight of the epididymal fat pads suggests that the increased body fat content in the VR and MR offspring could be due to an increase in central adiposity, a hall mark feature associated with and predisposes individuals to IR later in life [11].

Similar to their effects on body fat percentage, rehabilitation of VR dams from parturition and their offspring from weaning but not weaning VR offspring to control diet rescued the increased epididymal fat pad weight. This observation stresses the importance of vitamin nutrition during lactation in programming the body composition of the offspring and is in line with our similar findings earlier [2]. That both the rehabilitation regimes mitigated the maternal MR induced increase in body fat percentage of the offspring only partially suggests its irreversibility to a great extent as compared to that induced by maternal VR. This is corroborated by the observation that even the increased weight of epididymal fat pads was corrected only partly by MSP but not MSW.

The significant decrease in plasma adiponectin and increase in leptin levels seen in VR offspring are in agreement with earlier reports which showed that similar changes were associated with increased body fat and IR [5, 7]. Although increased leptin levels are usually associated with increased food intake, food intake was not increased in the VR offspring suggesting that they were probably leptin resistant. These results in the VR offspring suggest an association between the altered expression of adiponectin and leptin and their high body adiposity, albeit their causal relationship remains to be delineated.

The decreased plasma adiponectin levels seen in MR offspring are in agreement with similar reports earlier [7] and corroborate the increased percentage of body fat observed in them. However, our observation that hypoleptinemia was associated with high body fat percentage in MR offspring is at variance with many earlier studies demonstrating an association between high plasma leptin levels and high percentage of body fat [5]. Further studies are clearly needed to delineate the role if any of the hypoleptinemia in maternal MR induced increase in body fat percentage in the offspring. Interestingly, hypoleptinemia observed here is in line with leptin deficiency reported in the genetically obese rodent models [12, 13] and also with the hypoleptinemia reported in type 1 and 2 diabetic patients [14].

Increased TNF-[alpha] levels are associated with increased adiposity and IR [6]. However chronic MR or VR did not alter plasma TNF-[alpha] levels significantly. This finding appears to rule out a role for TNF-[alpha] in maternal VR and MR induced changes in the body fat of the offspring.

That rehabilitation of VR and MR dams from parturition but not weaning the VR and MR pups to control diet could mitigate the changes in adipocytokine levels stresses the importance of vitamin and mineral nutrition during lactation in modulating adipocytokine expression in addition to the body adiposity of the offspring. However the finding that despite comparable (to controls) leptin levels, MSP offspring had higher percentage of body fat and epididymal fat pad weight is perplexing and suggests that hypoleptinemia and leptin resistance may both be involved in maternal MR induced changes in adiposity of the offspring.

Not withstanding the effects seen in the body fat percentage, epididymal fat pad weight and plasma adipocytokine levels, neither maternal VR nor MR had any significant effect on the IR status in the offspring as assessed by the HOMA IR values. Lack of any effect on the IR status of the offspring could be due to the shorter duration of VR/MR and/or the lower magnitude of VR/MR employed in these studies. Considering our earlier reports [2, 3] that maternal VR/MR irreversibly decreased insulin secretion by the offspring to a glucose challenge, the increased body fat percentage observed here in the VR/MR offspring suggests that maternal VR/MR could lead to a hyperglycemic state in the offspring at a later age. That the rehabilitation regimes had similar effects on plasma adipocytokines, body fat percentage and glucose stimulated insulin suggests that adipocytokines play an important role in maternal VR/MR induced programming of glucose stimulated insulin secretion and hence glucose metabolism in the offspring in addition to their body adiposity. go to site body fat percentage calculator

Conclusion The present observations indicate that increased central adiposity underlies the increased percentage of body fat in the offspring of VR and MR rat dams. Altered expression of adiponectin and leptin is associated with maternal VR and MR induced changes in the body adiposity (composition) of the offspring but maternal VR/MR differentially modulate their expression. That rehabilitation of restricted mothers from parturition but not weaning the restricted offspring to control diet could correct the changes in adipocytokine levels, epididymal fat pad eight and body fat percent may suggest a causal relationship, which however needs to be established. The results also suggest the importance of vitamin and mineral nutrition during lactation in modulating the body adiposity of the offspring, specially the central adiposity, a fore runner for IR and associated diseases in their later life.

Magdaleno stops Sanchez Leon in Three!!!

Diego Magdaleno got a big fight weekend underway with a third round stoppage over Gilberto Sanchez Leon in round three of a scheduled ten round Super Featherweight bout at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Magdaleno scored a knockdown in round two from a left to the head. He landed some hard head shots but Sanchez Leon get out of the round. Magdaleno dropped Sanchez Leon at the beginning of round three from a hard right hand. That knockdown was authoritative and Sanchez Leon was hurt. Magdaleno finished the show with a flurry of punches that sent Sanchez Leon to the canvas just as referee Vic Drachulich stopped the bout.

The time of the stoppage was forty-nine seconds of round three for Magdaleno, 130 lbs of Las Vegas and is now 19-0 with seven knockouts. Sanchez Leon, 130 lbs of Mexacali, Mexico is now 31-9-2.

Juan Carlos Martinez scored an upset split decision victory over former world title challenger Bernabe Concepcion in an eight round Super Featherweight fight.

Martinez just did more then the disappointing Concepcion as he almost doubled his punch and land output. The fight was not action filled although Martinez had some blood from his nose in round five.

There was a good exchange at the end of round seven as the two traded right hands.

Martinez, 127 lbs of Mexico won by scores of 78-74; 77-75 while somehow Concepcion won a card by the tally of 77-75.

Martinez is now 18-13-1. Concepcion, 128 lbs of the Philippines was making his first start since being stopped by Featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez is now 28-5-1.

Notre Dame Alum Mike Lee scored a four round umajority decision over Gilberto Gastellum in a Light Heavyweight bout.

Gastellum had a decent first round but Lee settled in a boxed his well over the next three rounds which included a nice rally at the end of the third frame that was set off with a nice uppercut

Lee of Chicago won by scores of 40–36; 39-37 and 38-38 to stay undefeated at 5-0. Gastellum, 174 lbs of Tucson, AZ is now 0-2-1.

PERRY NICE DRESS SING ROOM KATY; MTV EMA BELFAST 2011.(Features)

Sunday Mirror (London, England) November 6, 2011 Byline: VICTORIA McMAHON THE Irish Sunday Mirror got a taste of star treatment yesterday with access to the celebs’ inner sanctum at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

I was taken behind the scenes through the warren of winding corridors where MTV minions kept the wheels for the world’s biggest bash turning.

And as the super-talented Katy Perry was busy in rehearsals I got to make myself comfortable in her decadent dressing room.

As I relaxed in Mrs Brand’s chair I realised I was sitting where Katy Perry fans would give their right arm to be – and for a few minutes I savoured the life of a world-famous star.

The I Kissed a Girl singer’s dressing room, like the other 32 hideaways of her fellow stars, is uniquely designed with her in mind.

MTV style teams had even added a plastic toy snake to her purple velvet sofa in case she’s missing her real-life pet snake Tom.

The contents of the luxurious goodie bag, including an X-Box Connect, were piled high on a table.

Her dressing room is truly like Santa has come early to deliver his sack of designer goodies. web site medium length hair styles 2011

A row of complimentary Replay clothes hang ready while a bejewelled necklace sits waiting on her Hollywood-styled lit dressing table for her to wear.

And if Katy gets thirsty there are plenty of expensive bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne waiting.

As the burly security guards signalled my time was up I reluctantly gave up my superstar haven for the superstar herself.

Taste of the high life THE ground-floor pop-up dining room and bar is where the music stars can refuel in style.

But ever mindful of the celebs strict regimes, caterers have packed the breakfast bar with gluten-free and healthy cereals and fresh fruit. For those not interested in brekkie, bottles of bubbly are on stand-by.

Yesterday, stars were offered beef and Guinness stew with thyme and sea salt puff pastry to give them some hearty local fare.

Chicken noodle soup, Teryaki salmon with spring onion, cucumber and ginger salsa were also on the extensive menu.

A chill-out section lets those who want to simply kick-back relax as they sip cocktails from the bar.

They can choose a cosmopolitan, georgia mint julep, caipiroska, or a whiskey sour, made from our very own Bushmills blend. And for those just out of rehab and trying to stay off the drink there is non-alcoholic fruit punch and mint cooler to quench their thirst as they stay sober in style.

Best Bar none CATWALK beauties Bar Refaeli and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Russian fiancee Irina Shayk will jet in today to dazzle the carpet.

They will be wearing one-off dresses by awards sponsor Replay.

Replay designer Gigi Vezzola told us: “It is a new idea, we have brought jean and couture together.

“They will be wearing one-off pieces – special editions just for the red carpet.

“It will be concentrating on stones and the colour of denim. It will be mid-length and look like precious stones like sapphire, diamond.” On the PINK carpet THE artists will leave the sanctuary of their dressing rooms at around 7pm flanked by their bodyguards to hit the “red carpet” in front of the world’s media.

But because this is MTV and you are dealing with music superstars things are done a little differently.

The 64 metres of plush carpet, where the stars’ Louboutin shoes will tread, is actually an eye-catching fuschia pink.

To protect our visiting music VIPs from the harsh elements, the walk will be done under cover in a white tent packed with foreign media, photographers and camera men scrambling for prime position.

And 150 “screamer” fans have red-carpet access and will clamour for autographs and photos with their heroes.

Pamper & preen THE music stars are just like any other celeb – they love being pampered and preened.

And backstage every beauty need is catered for to ensure they look every inch the superstar. website medium length hair styles 2011

Experts shipped in 1,000 bottles of dry shampoo Batiste to make sure a hair isn’t out of place.

Relaxing manicures using Butter London products are on offer as are revitalising facials and relaxing shoulders and neck massages. Beauty guru Jo Tutchener-Sharp said: “All the stars use dry shampoo so we have 1,000 bottles here to make sure we don’t run out.

“At the awards last year Kanye West was getting his shoulders massaged and he loved it so much he fell asleep.” And if you have ever wondered were you can get the flawless celeb complexion look no further than the high street for secret weapon Nanoblur skin cream.

Jo explained: “It’s a high definition product that blurs everything.

“It makes you look fabulous for under the lights of the red carpet.

WILSON OUTLASTS SHEIKA IN A WAR TO WIN USBA CRUISERWEIGHT CROWN –WATCH IT NOW ON DEMAND ON GFL

CLICK TO ODER THE EXCITING FIGHT CARD
ATLANTIC CITY / NEW YORK (April 24, 2011)—This Past Saturday night at The Caesars Palladium Ballroom, Garrett Wilson won the USBA Cruiserweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Omar Sheika.

That result alone doesn’t tell the story as the two waged a back and forth war that had the capacity crowd at Caesars on their feet for the better part of the twelve rounds.

That fight plus six other action packed fights can now be seen on-demand on www.gfl.tv for just $9.99 by clicking: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/Sheika_vs_Wilson__USBA_cruiserweight_title/1000

Wilson was terrific all night as he landed some booming rights and hard jabs from the outset.

The product of Wilson’s work showed early as Sheika was bleeding from his right eye as early as round two. Wilson controlled the early rounds but you could that if he was to win this belt he would have to earn it.

The two continued to pound each other with Wilson getting the advantage and cutting the left eye of Sheika in the middle rounds.

Every time Sheika looked to be turning the fight around, it was Wilson landing shots out of the corner that quickly turned the tide in his advantage.

The last part of the fight was fast and furious as a desperate Sheika was banking on the one shot that would turn it around. There were a few instances where it looked like that was going to happen but Wilson not only weathered the storm but continued to pile up the points on his to get the victory.

Along with winning the coveted USBA belt, Wilson will most likely receive a favorable world ranking by the IBF and big fights will be on the horizon for the fighter so correctly dubbed “The Ultimate Warrior”

For Sheika it looks to be the end of the line for Paterson, New Jersey native as he had a terrific career by competing for the Super Middleweight championship of the world four times and fighting many memorable bouts.

“This was a war and fans who saw this and will be able to view this on gfl.tv are in for a treat”, said ringside Blow by Blow commentator, Marc Abrams of www.gfl.tv

“I have broadcasted over seventy shows and this was the most entertaining fight to call and I consider it a privilege to be able announce a great fight like that”

In the co-feature, rising Jr. Welterweight Ronald Cruz became the first man to stop Manuel Guzman in twenty fight by scoring a stoppage after round three of their scheduled eight round bout.

It was a close three round with both guys getting in some good shots before an arm injury shut down Guzman for the night.

Cruz, who is one of the fastest up and coming prospects in the country, is now 12-0 with nine knockouts.

Bryant “By By” Jennings kept his record perfect by scoring three knockdowns en route to a stoppage after the second round over David Williams in a battle of Philadelphia based Heavyweights.

Much like Cruz, Jennings is starting to garner buzz as his record now reads 7-0 with four knockouts.

Fans can also enjoy a terrific back and forth battle between debuting Korey Sloane and Edgardo Torres.

The two exchanged heavy shots throughout their four round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Those are just four of the seven bouts fans can see from this “Cant-Miss” night of boxing that was promoted by Hall of Famer, J Russell Peltz and Peltz Boxing.

Leal upsets Marroquin

Unheralded Frankie Leal scored an upset split decision over previously undefeated hot prospect Roberto Marroquin in a ten round Featherweight bout at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

Marroquin and Leal fought on pretty even terms over the first half of the fight with Leal hanging around and being competitive.

leal got the better of the exchanges in the fat paced second half of the contest as his punches from his southpaw stance got through the guard of the prized Marroquin. Marroquin suffered a cut that had blood streaming from down his forehead which could have caused him some issues as Leal had solid round’s eight and nine. the two closed the show by standing toe toe action with Leal more than holding his own as the bell sounded to end the fight.

Leal, 123 lbs of Mexacali, MX won by scores of 99-92 and 96-94 while Marroquin took a card 97-93.

Leal is now 17-6-3. Marroquin, 124 lbs of Dallas, TX is now 19-1.

Baltimore Raven safety Tommy Zbikowski scored an explosive first round knockout over Blake Warner in a scheduled four round Cruiserweight bout.

Zbikowski landed some hard shots before he landed a wicked uppercut that dropped Warner and referee Vic Drachulich stopped the bout at 2:20 of round one

Zibikowski, 197 lbs of Chicago is now 4-0 with three knockouts. Warner, 194 lbs of Oklahoma, City is now 1-3.

Casey Ramos remained undefeated by scoring an eight round unanimous decision over one-time prospect John Jackson in a Lightweight bout.

The bout had some bizarre happening as in round one, Ramos pounded Jackson with a right hand off the break and Jackson fell to the ground. The incident was not ruled a knockdown. In round four, Ramos drilled Jackson with two right hands that sent Jackson into the ropes which was correctly ruled a knockdown. The impact of Jackson careening into the ropes caused the second rope to snap which caused a ten minute delay.

Ramos, 133 lbs of Austin, TX won all three cards by a 79-70 tally and is now 13-0. Jackson, 133 lbs of Miami, FL is now 16-3-1.

Salido was consistently getting through with the right hand over the course of the fight and was definatly in the contest throughout. There were many solid exchanges with the fight really starting to heat up in the third. The first sign of Salido being a tough out for Lopez as the challenger landed a hard staright right that backed up the champion. Lopez quickly answered that by backing up Salido with a combination. In round five, Salido landed a booming right to the jaw the sent Lopez to the canvas and the champ was in a heap of trouble. Lopez was lucky that the knockdown came at the end of the round or he may have been stopped right then and there.

Salido continued to find a home for the right hand but Lopez showed a champions heart by continuing to fire back and get through with solid straight lefts.

In round eight, Salido landed another right hand that sent Lopez reeling all over the ring but this time there was enough time for Salido to stalk and throw some shots that connected and continued to hurt Lopez. Lopez was throwing to the very end but his shots were mostly missing in between battering shots from Salido when the bout was halted at 1:37 of round eight.

Salido, 126 lbs of Ciudad, Mexico is champion with a record of 35-11-2-1 with twenty-three knockouts. Lopez, 125 lbs of Caguas, PR is now 30-1.

Admitting to the severity of the knockdown, Lopez simply stated after the fight, “The punch in the fifth round hurt.”

The stoppage surprised – and angered – many in attendance, as the boos were following by flying beer and water bottles from the pro-Lopez crowd. Lopez echoed the crowd’s displeasure with the ref’s ruling. “[Salido] was hitting me but [Ramirez Jr.] shouldn’t have stopped the fight,” said Lopez. “I was still conscious.”

Proudly hoisting up his belt after the fight, the new champion said, “I came very prepared to fight the No. 1 featherweight in the world. I think the fight was going pretty evenly through the first five rounds but I knew I had to pressure [Lopez] because we were in his hometown.”

Luis Cruz had a couple of anxious moments but he fought well and scored a ten round unanimous decision over late replacement and former world title challenger Martin Honorio in a Jr. Lightweight bout.

Cruz built up a nice lead early as Cruz featured precise counter left hooks. Round six saw many wild exchanges that pleased the crowd with the exception of a moment when Cruz was buckled from a pair of right hands from Honorio.

Cruz steadied himself and boxed well for round’s seven through nine. Honorio buckled Cruz early in the final frame from a right to the body but Cruz once again regained his composure and finished up the fight by landing some solid uppercuts and left hands.

Cruz, 129 3/4 lbs of Las Piedras, PR won by scores of 100-90; 98-92; and 96-94 to remain undefeated at 18-0. Honorio, 131 lbs of Mexico City is now 29-6-1.

Fewer high school grads heading right to work

Automotive Body Repair News August 1, 2006 | Johnson, Mark TRAINING TRENDS A New York State Department of Education study says fewer students are going to work after graduating from high school. An average of two percent to three percent of New York high school graduates enter the workforce after graduation, according to the survey. The number of students who take a job after completing high school has declined in recent years and the New York study reflects nationwide trends, according to education statistics. go to web site new york state department of education

The decrease in post-high school job seekers is both good and bad news for the collision repair industry. The good news is students who are interested in careers in collision repair often continue their education beyond high school to better learn the trade. The result is a pool of better-trained and more dedicated employees.

The bad news has many more facets. Students who are unsure of what career to pursue go on to further education, but they are frequently not exposed to career education that might lead them to pursue jobs in areas like collision repair due to diminishing budgets tor career training programs. Students who might be interested in technical education do not have the opportunity to follow their interest or to explore potential careers.

The trend toward continued education means high school students are less receptive to alternatives like on-the-job training or apprenticeships. All of this means shops interested in hiring new employees may have a tougher time finding recruits.

One way to counteract the effects of this trend is to follow the lead of school districts like the Birdville Independent School District near Fort Worth, Texas. Career education in the district starts in middle school where students take aptitude tests to see where their interests are and exposes them to the districts high-school level career education programs. website new york state department of education

In high school students in the technical programs begin planning their long-term career and educational plans. “Students look at their areas of interest early – in middle school – and we help them to prepare a four-year graduation plan that is kind of a college degree plan,” says Linda Anderson, director of career and technology education at Birdville. That plan often includes preparation for further training in that field after graduation.

“In our auto technician program, which is approved by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF), students work towards their National Institute tor Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification while they are still in high school and they work in shops during the summer. We also partner with the community colleges so they can get their associate’s degrees in addition to their certification, so they have all the skills an employer needs,” says Anderson.

The program is one of the good news aspects of fewer students entering the work force right after graduation. She says fewer students in Birdville and other districts go right to work because of the training they are receiving. And that extended education is something employers are looking for.

“The [auto repair] industry is putting their money where their mouth is,” says Anderson.”They’re saying, ‘We want to hire students who are very highly skilled. We want to show the kids the rewards of having the highest level of skills.’ ” In her area businesses have worked to inform students about available jobs. “A number of businesses offer internships, or bring students in to give them a sense of what a job is like. That helps our students when they are deciding what program to follow,” she says.

Anderson firmly believes businesses can do a lot to gain from this post-graduation trend. “Businesses that work with the schools can help create programs that turn out well-trained students and their support can help schools to keep those programs running,” she says. “It businesses need employees they need to get involved with their schools.” [Author Affiliation] By Mark Johnson Senior Editor Johnson, Mark

Adamek dominates and shuts out McBride in Jersey

Tomasz Adamek tuned up for a September 10th showdown with WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko with a workmanlike twelve round pounding over Kevin McBride in front of over 7,300 mostly Polish Adamek supporters at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

It was obvious early who this fight would go as Adamek had a what looked at times a “Light Years” speed advantage over the slow, plodding and and even confused McBride as Adamek landed combination s as Adamek concentrated in working the flabby body of McBride. The combination’s were three, four and five punches at a time as it was clear what Adamek was trying to do. It looked like all McBride wanted to do was push a weak jab and lean on Adamek in an effort to tire him out. McBride started to bleed under the right eye as early as round four.

A round later, McBride began to bleed from his forehead but neither cut bothered the big Irishman during the fight. Every once in a while McBride, who did walk Adamek down for most of the fight would land a punch but with the punches that could be timed by a sun dial Adamek was able to move enough to take most of the sting of McBride’s punches.

Over the last half of the fight it was more of the same that saw Adamek move in and out and use his legs to keep away from McBride. For all of his lack of shape, McBride showed good endurance as he didint look much more fatigued then Adamek, who showed signs of tiredness which was mostly due to all the moving and the many times that McBride would lay his ample body on top of the top contender from Poland. McBride was deducted a point in round seven for excessive holding. Adamek closed the show as he landed some hard punches and the two exchanged for most of the final round with neither man ever looking like they would be hurt or knocked down.

The fight, which was billed “The Last Big Hurdle” for Adamek as he jumped over McBride with ease as he won by scores of 120-107; 119-108 and 119-1108.

Adamek, 215 lbs of Jersey City, NJ will via Gilowice, Poland will return to the homeland for what will be the biggest sporting event in the history of that European country when he takes on Adamek with a record of 44-1.

Collado was cut early in round one over the right eye and it seemed to have bothered him just a tad but the cut was controlled nicely as the fight went on. The two fighters engaged in nice exchanges with each taking turns getting through with left hooks.

The fight was very close but Collado was a bit more active and scored the split decision victory by scores of 59-54 and 57-56 while Lora took a card 57-56.

Collado, 128 lbs of Queens, NY is now 12-0. Lora, 128 1/2 lbs of Irvington, NJ is now 11-4.

Jose Peralta beat up Eber Luis Perez and stopped him in round three of a scheduled six round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Peralta rocked Perez with a hard right in round two and followed up with a combination that sent Perez to the canvas. Peralta opened up round three with a hard left that started blood flow from Perez nose.
Peralta dropped Perez with a right hand later in the round. With Perez down, his corner decided to stop the bout at 2:49 of round three.

Peralta, 142 lbs of Jersey City, NJ is now 6-1 with four knockouts. Perez, 136 lbs of Cartegena, Colombia is now 12-20

Vinny O’Brien scored a fourth round stoppage over Shakir Aquel Dunn in a scheduled four round Welterweight bout.

It was a tough bout with both guys landing good shots for which O’Brien, who has a terrific fan base, got in the better shots.

In round four, O’Brien landed some thudding shots that ended with a hard combination on the ropes and the bout was stopped just nine seconds before its scheduled conclusion.

FRANKLIN LAWRENCE TO VITALI KLITSCHKO “HEY WHY NOT ME FOR JUNE 4”

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 4, 2011)—Fresh off his one round stoppage over Odlanier Solis on March 19th, WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has indicated that he would like to get back in the ring on June 4th and emerging contender Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence believes he has as much any right with his recent credentials to be Klitschko’s opponent that night.

Lawrence of Indianapolis has a record of 14-2-2 with nine knockouts and is coming off a tenth round stoppage over former U.S Olympian Jason Estrada back on January 29th.

Before that bout, Lawrence stopped perennial contender Lance Whitaker in seven rounds.

“I know getting a title opportunity is based on merit and my last two wins are as quality wins as any of the guys they are talking about to be Vitali’s challenger.” Said Lawrence

“The fella that is rumored to have the inside track on the fight hasn’t had a big win in about six years and here I have two in about six months. I understand that Adamek maybe getting a shot in the fall but all you have to do is look at the Estrada fight’s and compare what he did and what I did and Estrada came into the fight with me saying it was the first fight he was at 100 percent in a long time”

“I know that given the opportunity I will rise to the occasion. I have one loss that is legitimate. Everyone who saw my fight with McCall knows I won that fight but that is the past and I am looking towards a shot at realizing my dream to bring the Heavyweight title back to the heartland of America.”

“Franklin has worked hard and all you have to do is see his wins. His brother offered Dereck Chisora an opportunity with a lot less of a resume then Franklin so if Vitali looks at Franklins victories he knows he is as worthy as him or Sosnowski”, said Lawrence’s promoter Dave Escalet of Fisticuffs Promotions
