McGregor – Crawford discussing possible MMA/Boxing Matches?

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, UFC star Conor McGregor and WBO Welterweight champion Terence Crawford could be in discussions for a possible two fight (MMA and Boxing) series.

“You’ve got an elite boxer in Terence Crawford fighting an elite MMA guy in Conor McGregor under MMA rules,” Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum told ESPN on Wednesday. “You don’t think that would be interesting and something the public would want to see? I think it’s very realistic.”

Arum said there have been some discussions between the sides but declined to specify which parties had talked.

“Whenever they are ready, we are ready,” Arum said. “We’d do the MMA fight first if that’s what they want.”

“I’m a fighter first. As a fighter, I would entertain it,” Crawford told ESPN. “I just have to have the proper time to prepare myself. It would be a little more than boxing training. I haven’t been in that [wrestling] environment in a long time, but most definitely I feel I can compete with anyone given the proper time to train on the MMA side, being that I have a wrestling background. McGregor would have to worry about my stand-up game as well. It would be interesting. He’s got good kicks and he’s strong. I’d have to prepare myself for those things, but I feel I would be all right.”

“I can’t get none of these top welterweights in the ring to fight me, so whatever is clever. I’m with it all,” Crawford said of a potential major fight in MMA.

“Fighting Crawford would be great for McGregor because he has no chance in a boxing match except to pick up a check,” Arum said. “In an MMA match, he would be the favorite, but Crawford would have a chance because he’s one tough dude and because he has a wrestling background. I think that Crawford is the one boxer that can compete with an elite MMA guy under MMA rules. We’d do two fights so we can level the playing field by fighting in both disciplines. Mayweather and Pacquiao would never fight under MMA rules. Crawford would.”

“I always had the talent for wrestling, but I liked to throw my hands. I liked punching people in the face more than hugging them,” Crawford said. “My dad was a wrestler, my uncle and my grandfather wrestled, and they were always teaching me the moves. I just liked boxing more.

“A lot of people may say if Terence goes into the Octagon he will get crushed, but they don’t know me.”

The championship tripleheader streams live on FIGHT PASS with play-by-play man Michael Parente and UFC veterans Tom Lawlor and Joe Lauzon on color commentary beginning at 9 pm ET. Doors open at 6 with the first preliminary bout scheduled for 7.

CES MMA’s featherweight crown is again up for grabs with the former title-holder Bessette facing a tall order against Cheeks, a Legacy FC and LFA veteran. Bessette held the title from 2016 through 2018 and vacated it upon his promotion to the UFC. Bessette recently returned to CES MMA in March with a win over Tim Dooling at CES MMA 55 in Connecticut.

Win, lose, or draw, Rebello walks off into the sunset January 24, ending a storied career in which he’s 25 bouts, including 16 by knockout. A veteran of the Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, Rebello won the heavyweight title against Travis Wiuff at CES MMA 48 and defended it in July with a knockout win over Kevin Haley.

In addition to the three championship bouts, the main card on FIGHT PASS features the return of UFC light heavyweight William Knight who faces Rocky Edwards and the long-awaited return of red-hot undefeated welterweight prospect John Gotti III in a showdown with the dangerous Marcos Lloreda.

Atomweights Marisa Messer-Belenchia and Delaney Owen face off in the cage seven months removed from their professional boxing match against one another, which Messer-Belenchia won by unanimous decision. Popular strawweight Hilarie Rose returns in search of her fourth consecutive win and bantamweight Richie Santiago takes on vet Giorgi Kudakhashvili.

Highlighting the preliminary card is the return of local fan-favorite Thomas Evans who faces featherweight Zachary Johnson. Evans ends a seven-year layoff on January 24 as he returns to the cage in the midst of his campaign for City Councilman in Central Falls, RI. Also on the preliminary card are bantamweight Ashiek Ajim of Queens, NY; lightweight Eddie George of West Haven, CT making his professional debut; and welterweight Hugh McKenna of Syosset, NY.

JOSHUA PACIO TO DEFEND ONE STRAWWEIGHT WORLD TITLE AGAINST ALEX SILVA

12 December 2019 – Manila, Philippines: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has just announced its return to the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday, 31 January. The bustling Philippine capital of Manila will play host to ONE: FIRE & FURY which brings together the absolute best in world-class martial arts.

More information on ONE: FIRE & FURY is available at www.onefc.com.

In the main event, reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio of the Philippines will defend his title against Alex “Little Rock” Silva of Brazil.

The 23-year-old Pacio, who hails from Baguio City, captured the strawweight belt with a unanimous decision victory over Japanese veteran Yoshitaka Naito in September of 2018, but surrendered the title to another Japanese warrior in Shooto World Champion Yosuke Saruta in his first defense. Months later, Pacio avenged that defeat by knocking Saruta out with a head kick to regain ONE Championship gold.

Last November, Pacio successfully defended his title against compatriot Rene Catalan, winning by second-round submission. Now, Pacio looks to make the second defense of his title against the streaking Alex Silva.

Silva, a former ONE Strawweight World Champion, has been impressive as of late, earning his way back to title contention behind two incredible submission victories over Stefer Rahardian and Peng Xue Wen. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt is one of the most dangerous grapplers in the promotion. Eight out of nine of his victories have come by way of submission.

Silva will attempt to lift the belt from Pacio in a much-anticipated showdown at strawweight.

Also on the card are Pacio’s Team Lakay teammates and fellow Filipinos who all face tough opposition.

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines returns to action against Pakistan’s Ahmed “The Wolverine” Mujtaba.

Folayang is one of the most prominent martial artists in his country — a massive sports icon loved by his people. Behind his world-class wushu skills, Folayang is on the comeback trail and believes he can make another run at the World Title.

Former ONE World Title challenger Danny “The King” Kingad is back to face China’s “The Hunter” Xie Wei.

Kingad is one of the hottest prospects in Philippine mixed martial arts. Since challenging Adriano Moraes for the title in 2017, Kingad has won six out of his last seven bouts. He blitzed through the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix with victories over Senzo Ikeda and Reece McLaren, and then faced legend Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in the final round. Now Kingad starts his climb back to the top anew against Xie, who earned his start on Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series.

Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang of the Philippines looks to continue his rise through the ranks when he faces Thailand’s Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit.

Adiwang began his career in ONE Championship via ONE Warrior Series, where he railed off three impressive victories to earn a six-figure contract with the promotion. “Thunder Kid” made a successful main roster debut back in October, when he finished the highly-regarded Senzo Ikeda in the first round.

Mitsatit, on the other hand, is one of the most promising young talents out of Thailand. The Chiang Mai representative owns eight knockout victories out of 10 wins on his resume and promises to bring the action right to Adiwang in this clash of exciting strawweights.

Making her much-anticipated return to the ONE Circle is Team Lakay’s Gina “Conviction” Iniong, who takes on India’s Asha “Knockout Queen” Roka.

Iniong was last seen in the Circle last February, where she defeated highly-regarded Malaysian Jihin Radzuan via close split decision. Just recently, Iniong competed in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila, where she bagged a kickboxing gold medal in the Women’s 55 KG Kick Light Category.

Roka, in contrast, debuted for ONE Championship last August, taking on two-sport World Champion Stamp Fairtex.

Looking to get back on the winning track is the Philippines’ Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres, who locks horns with former ONE World Title challenger Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang of Chinese Taipei. Torres is primarily a boxer and a wrestler, while Huang is a judo black belt. Both women are hungry for victory. Fans can expect a thrilling battle between the two as only one will emerge victorious.

Last on the mixed martial arts spectrum is a showdown between taekwondo black belt “Pretty Boy” Kwon Won Il of South Korea and Shooto Bantamweight World Champion Shoko Sato of Japan.

Also on the card is a trio of ONE Super Series Muay Thai contests.

Australia’s Alma Juniku takes on Anne Line Hogstad of Norway. Former ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Baby Shark” Petchdam Petchyindee Academy goes head-to-head with Japan’s Kohei “Momotaro” Kodera. Finally, Thailand’s Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym does battle with Chris Shaw of Scotland.ONE: FIRE & FURY

ONE Championship athletes competing this Friday evening, 22 November at the Singapore Indoor Stadium came out to showcase their skills to fans and media in attendance. They also took time to address the media and talk about their upcoming bouts. Here’s what they had to say:

Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion, stated: “I feel privileged and honored to be able to share my style of fighting with the world. I have the ability to make adjustments and adapt to my opponent’s style in the ring. I think this will be key against Saemapetch. This will be my first time fighting here in Singapore, so I am very grateful to be able to perform in front of my friends, my family, and my students. To be able to defend my title here, it will be a special moment in my career. I am looking forward to victory and I can’t wait to give my best for the crowd.”

Saemapetch Fairtex, MTGP Welterweight World Champion, stated: “Fighting for the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship against a legend of the sport in Nong-O Gaiyanghadao is a huge honor for me. I’ve waited my entire career for this moment. In this fight, the world will witness how two Thai warriors do battle, and our unique fighting spirit. Nong-O is a great champion. He is very smart and crafty, and very well-rounded. But I’m the younger man, I’m stronger and hungrier. This is my time and I’m ready to shock the world.”

Amir Khan, former ONE Lightweight World Title challenger, stated: “I am stronger now than ever before – more skilled and more experienced. I’ve had a few months to analyze my recent performances. I’m more focused mentally, and I just feel like I’m in a good place. I want to show everyone here at home how much I’ve improved and what I can do. This bout, I feel, is going to be fight of the night. Both myself and Ev Ting always come to fight. We always leave it all inside the ring. It’s going to be non-stop action from start to finish.”

Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, former ONE Strawweight World Champion, stated: “I’ve been in martial arts my entire life, and it’s something I truly enjoy. Getting to compete among the best in the world, that’s all an athlete can ever ask for. I am extremely grateful and happy for the opportunities that I have been given in my career. I was the first ever Thai champion in ONE Championship. I am thankful to be an inspiration to the youth and those who want to follow in my footsteps. But my journey doesn’t end here. There is still a long way to go and I’m looking forward to winning this Friday night.”

Bruno Pucci, ONE Athlete, stated: “I am super happy to be competing again after a few months off. The long wait is over, and now it’s time to get back in there and do what I love to do. I would like to thank my wife, Angela Lee, and the rest of the family for all their support. I’m looking forward to a lot of opportunities moving on in my career. Right now, though, I know I have to take care of business this Friday night. I’ve trained very hard for this comeback, now all that’s left is to perform. I’m also excited to be back here in Singapore, to put on a show for all the fans.”For more updates on ONE Championship, please visit www.onefc.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @ONEChampionship, and like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ONEChampionship.

JOSHUA PACIO SUBMITS RENE CATALAN TO RETAIN ONE STRAWWEIGHT WORLD TITLE

8 November 2019 – Manila, Philippines: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), once again electrified the crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. Last Friday night, 8 November, ONE: MASTERS OF FATE played host to a series of action-packed and compelling contests, delivered by the absolute best in world-class martial arts talent.

Visit the official ONE: MASTERS OF FATE photo gallery by clicking: https://bit.ly/onephotos

In the main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio of the Philippines turned in a dominant performance, submitting compatriot Rene “D’ Challenger” Catalan in the second round to retain his ONE Strawweight World Championship. Pacio survived an early submission scare from Catalan to impose his will on the ground. In the second round, Pacio stuffed a takedown from Catalan and worked his way into mount, before securing a masterful arm-triangle choke, leaving the challenger with no choice but to tap out.

In the co-main event of the evening, former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines earned a technical decision victory over Mongolia’s Amarsanaa “Spear” Tsogookhuu after an unintentional clash of heads brought the bout to an abrupt end. Folayang was on fire in the opening round, turning up the aggression with his strikes. A collision of heads midway into the second round was ruled as an unintentional foul, leading to a technical decision being made, which went in favor of the Filipino martial arts hero.

Multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion Sangmanee “The Million Dollar Baby” Sathian Muaythai of Thailand impressed in his ONE Championship debut, defeating Azize “The Magician” Hlali of Morocco by unanimous decision. Sangmanee outstruck Hlali over the course of the three-round affair to walk away with the judges’ nod on all three scorecards, earning him a spectacular victory in his maiden appearance on the ONE stage.

Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio barged back into the win column with a thrilling knockout victory over Finland’s Toni “Dynamite” Tauru. In the first round, it looked as if Tauru was going to pick up an early submission win, but Eustaquio survived getting his back taken and proceeded to turn the tide in his favor. After a rocky opening stanza, Eustaquio rallied back in the second round by using his superior striking to do heaps of damage. The former flyweight king finished things off in the third round with a spinning back kick to the midsection that sent Tauru crashing to the mat for the highlight-reel stoppage win.

Reigning ONE Atomweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion Stamp Fairtex of Thailand took another big step forward in her mixed martial arts career, picking up a huge win over Vietnamese-American star Bi “Killer Bee” Nguyen. Stamp used her top-notch striking to pick Nguyen apart in the standup, while showing off her improved grappling to defend against Nguyen’s takedown attempts. Nguyen stood right in front of Stamp, but had difficulty finding her mark. After three rounds of fast-paced action, Stamp walked away with the clear-cut decision win and remained unbeaten in her ONE Championship career.

Chinese spitfire “The Underdog” Li Kai Wen returned to the ONE Championship ring in style with a first-round knockout victory over Indonesia’s Paul “The Great King” Lumihi. Li was aggressive right off the bat, charging at Lumihi to unleash a flying knee to open the action. After an exciting exchange between the two warriors, Li unloaded a three-punch combination, capped off by a right uppercut to put Lumihi to sleep.

Former ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito of Japan kept his momentum going with a three-round unanimous decision victory over Thailand’s Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit. The Japanese grappler imposed his game plan well, as he was able to ground Mitsatit at will. The Thai star looked to reverse his fortunes by pressuring Naito with his striking, but it wasn’t enough as the former strawweight king remained unstoppable with his takedowns. After three rounds of action, Naito walked away with the decision win.

Multiple-time Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion Kongsak “Left Savage” PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym put on a striking clinic as he defeated Top King Muay Thai World Champion and former ONE World Title challenger Han Zi Hao of China to win by unanimous decision. The Thai stalwart controlled the action throughout the three-round bout, using crisp combinations to score points on the judges’ scorecards. Han had no answer for Kongsak, as the Thai warrior cruised to a dominant decision win.

The Philippines’ own Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan sent the Mall of Asia Arena into a frenzy after scoring an explosive knockout victory over Cuba’s Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart. Catalan was on point with his striking throughout the bout, and was able to hold his own against the high-level grappling of the Olympian wrestler Balart. Late in the second round, Catalan uncorked a well-timed right high kick that connected and took Balart out instantly, much to the delight of Catalan’s hometown crowd.

Multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion Tukkatatong Petpayathai picked up a gritty split decision win over former ONE World Title challenger Hiroaki “Kaibutsukun” Suzuki of Japan in his return to the ONE Championship ring. It was an exciting back-and-forth affair between the two strikers, with Tukkatatong scoring points with his body kicks. After three rounds of action, it was the Thai veteran who walked away with the decision.

“The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong of South Korea announced his arrival in the ONE Championship featherweight division in exciting fashion with a technical knockout victory over Brazilian veteran Rafael “Indio” Nunes. Kim picked Nunes apart in the striking department, and was able to survive the Brazilian grappler’s submission attempts. In the final round, Kim landed a punch to the body that ultimately spelled the end for Nunes, leading to a gutsy win for the South Korean inside the distance.

South Korea’s Kim Kyu Sung bounced back in spectacular fashion with a quick knockout win over ONE Warrior Series contract winner Akhiro “Superjap” Fujisawa of Japan. Kim needed only 68 seconds to stop Fujisawa, after landing a well-placed right uppercut to earn the highlight reel finish.

Kicking things off at ONE: MASTERS OF FATE in Manila, India’s Roshan Mainam put on an impressive performance in his ONE Championship debut, submitting Cambodia’s Khon Sichan via first-round Americana. Mainam wasted little time in getting the action to the ground, taking Sichan down with ease. Once on the mat, Mainam imposed his will on Sichan, getting into mount before finishing the bout with a slick armlock.

Putting on a show for all the Filipino people, it’s always something I am excited for. Rene Catalan is a worthy challenger. He’s riding a six-bout winning streak and is full of confidence. I am expecting only the best from him. As always, I take this as an opportunity to test my skills. He’s a veteran who has been fighting his whole life. I have also been impressed by his recent performances, especially against Yoshitaka Naito. It’s rare that a Filipino will fight another Filipino for a World Title. But I’m glad to be part of history.”

Rene Catalan, ONE World Title Challenger, stated: “I am super confident heading into this matchup. Becoming a mixed martial arts world champion has been a goal of mine for a long time. Now, I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream. I know chances like this don’t come often, so I’m giving this everything I have. I don’t plan on leaving the Circle without that belt. Joshua Pacio is a young champion, he still has his entire career ahead of him. I respect his skills and his journey up to this point. But once that cage door shuts, it’s go time. No matter who wins, the honor and glory go to the Philippines.”

Eduard Folayang, former ONE Lightweight World Champion, stated: “I am glad to be back competing again. I know my back is against the wall right now. This year hasn’t exactly gone to plan. But I’ve been working hard. I know victory is important this time. I’m facing a hungry opponent from Mongolia who will be looking to beat a big name. I’ve been in this situation before and I know what I need to do. I’m a veteran of this sport, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. Still, I feel confident in making another run at the ONE Lightweight World Title. My journey starts anew at home in Manila.”

Geje Eustaquio, former ONE Flyweight World Champion, stated: “I’m coming into this next bout with something to prove. Things haven’t gone my way this year, and I’ve had a lot of learning opportunities. I can honestly say that I am a better martial artist now than ever before. This rematch with Toni Tauru is very important for me, because it’s a win I would like to get back. I want to be known as ‘The King of Rematch’ and beating Tauru will prove that. Watch out Manila! Team Lakay is coming!”

Robin Catalan, ONE Athlete, stated: “First of all, I’m really excited to be a part of this card. The Philippines has the most amazing martial arts fans in the world, and I am proud to represent my country on the global stage. I’ve put a lot into this camp, and I am fixated on getting the victory. All my hard work will pay off soon. I would like to thank ONE Championship for continuing to give me the opportunity to showcase my skills. I feel like I’ve improved a lot since my first fight. Now I’m ready to show the world that I’m a serious contender in this division. Thank you for all the support, Manila!”For more updates on ONE Championship, please visit www.onefc.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @ONEChampionship, and like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ONEChampionship.
