It will be action-packed, for sure.”

Martin Nguyen, ONE Featherweight & Lightweight World Champion, stated: “Bibiano [Fernandes] should watch this fight with a close eye. He knows who the rightful challenger is. UFC® RETURNS TO CALGARY WITH A PIVOTAL LIGHTWEIGHT REMATCH BETWEEN CONTENDERS (#3) EDDIE ALVAREZ AND (#4) DUSTIN POIRIER

Calgary, Canada – UFC® makes its long-awaited return to Calgary with a thrilling lightweight rematch between former champion and No.3-ranked contender Eddie Alvarez and No.4 Dustin Poirier. Also, former featherweight champion and No.2-ranked contender Jose Aldo will battle No.4 Jeremy Stephens in a co-main event guaranteed to deliver fireworks. UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: ALVAREZ vs. POIRIER 2 takes place Saturday, July 28 at Scotiabank Saddledome and will air live on FOX. The event will broadcast live in Canada on CTV Two.

Alvarez (29-5 1NC, fighting out of Philadelphia, Penn., USA) and Poirier (23-5 1NC, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla., USA) originally met one year ago, in an exciting bout that ended in a no contest. They now get to pick up where they left off in front of a packed house in Calgary.

An MMA veteran for almost 15 years, Alvarez’s most recent outing saw him become the first fighter to finish Justin Gaethje this past December. Not only did the bout win Fight of the Night honors at UFC 218, it also took the No.2 spot on UFC.com’s Top 10 fights of 2017 list. Over the course of his career, he’s earned victories over Anthony Pettis, Gilbert Melendez and Tatsuya Kawajiri. In 2016, he knocked out Rafael Dos Anjos to capture the UFC lightweight championship. Alvarez now looks for another show-stealing performance to stake his claim for a title shot.

A former featherweight mainstay, Poirier has been on a tear since moving back to lightweight in 2015. During his run in the UFC’s stacked 155-pound division, he’s taken home five fight night bonuses. He’s netted sensational wins against Antony Pettis, Jim Miller, Bobby Green, Yancy Medeiros and Joseph Duffy and in his last appearance, he delivered an incredible TKO victory over Justin Gaethje in a Fight of the Year contender last month. Poirier now plans to settle the score with Alvarez and earn his first shot at UFC championship gold.

The UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: ALVAREZ vs. POIRIER 2 co-main event will feature a pair of featherweight KO artists.

The most dominant 145-pound titleholder in UFC history, Aldo (26-4, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) looks to get back on track following losses to current champ Max Holloway. During his legendary 10-year win streak, he beat the best the featherweight division had to offer. Among his victims are former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber. The all-time great is now gunning to reclaim momentum against one of the division’s heaviest hitters.

A 13-year MMA veteran, Stephens (28-14, fighting out of San Diego, Calif., USA) has been on a tear in the featherweight division. Currently riding a three-fight win streak – with each bout netting him a fight night bonus – he plans to use Aldo as a stepping-stone to a title shot. Known for his powerful hands, Stephens has delivered exciting knockouts against Josh Emmett, Dooho Choi, Dennis Bermudez and Rony Jason. A win over the Brazilian legend would thrust Stephens straight into the title mix.

Additional bouts on the card include:

Former women’s strawweight champion and No.1-ranked contender Joanna Jedrzejczyk (14-2, fighting out of Olsztyn, Poland) throws down with No.5 Tecia Torres (10-2, fighting out of Colorado Springs, Colo., USA)
No.4-ranked women’s flyweight contender Alexis Davis (19-7, fighting out of San Jose, Calif., USA by way of Niagara Falls, Ont., Canada) looks to stake her claim for a title shot against No.8 Katlyn Chookagian (10-1, fighting out of Kenilworth, N.J., USA)
In a clash of surging lightweights, No.13-ranked contender Alexander Hernandez (9-1, fighting out of San Antonio, Tex., USA) squares off with No.15 Olivier Aubin-Mercier (12-2, fighting out of Montreal, Canada)
Strawweight contenders collide when No.12-ranked Randa Markos (8-6, fighting out of Windsor, Ont., Canada) takes on No.13 Nina Ansaroff (8-5, fighting out of Weston, Fla., USA)
No.10-ranked flyweight contender Dustin Ortiz (18-7, fighting out of Franklin, Tenn., USA) battles No.12 Matheus Nicolau (13-2-1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
In a battle of talented strikers, John Makdessi (15-6, fighting out of Montreal, Canada) locks horns with Ross Pearson (22-14 1NC, fighting out of Sunderland, England)

23 May 2018 – Yangon, Myanmar: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has just announced the main event for the upcoming card, ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR, which is set for 29 June at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. Reigning ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang of Myanmar will defend his middleweight title against Ken Hasegawa of Japan.

Ticket information for ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR is available at www.onefc.com.

Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated: “Whenever Aung La N Sang steps foot on Myanmar soil, he is greeted by throngs of screaming fans. He truly is Myanmar’s biggest star, and is a great representative of the country’s strength and resolve. Our ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion is ready to face a tough new opponent in Japan’s Ken Hasegawa, and I am super excited for another action-packed evening in Yangon. ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR is shaping up to be one of the biggest nights in Myanmar’s martial arts history, and fans will not want to miss what goes down at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium.”

33-year-old Aung La N Sang is Myanmar’s most successful athlete in history, whose impressive submission skills have earned him the moniker of ”The Burmese Python”. Born in Myitkyina in the mountainous Kachin State, he belongs to an ethnic minority known as the Kachin. Aung La N Sang captured the ONE Middleweight World Championship with a unanimous decision victory over Vitaly Bigdash in June of 2017. In his most recent bout, he defeated Brazil’s Alexandre Machado to be crowned the new ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion. Next up, Aung La N Sang will defend his middleweight title against Ken Hasegawa.

31-year-old Ken Hasegawa of Kanagawa, Japan is a martial arts veteran set to make his ONE Championship debut. The middleweight contender has finished three of his last five opponents, showcasing the undeniable submission skills and thunderous knockout power that he has become known for competing in Japanese martial arts promotions Deep and Rizin. With a professional record of 16-2-1, which includes four submissions and six scintillating knockouts, Hasegawa will step into the ONE Championship cage for the first time at ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR. He is set to challenge Aung La N Sang for the ONE Middleweight World Championship.

Aung La N Sang, ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion, stated: “It is always a pleasure and a privilege to share my skills and talents to everyone back home. As champion, I am willing to take on all comers. It is an honor to represent the country of Myanmar on the biggest global stage of martial arts competition. This world championship means a lot to me, to those who have been behind my career from the very beginning, to my family, and to my friends. I will do everything in my power to defend this title against the hungry lion that is Ken Hasegawa.”

Ken Hasegawa, ONE World Title Challenger, stated: “After eight years of excellence as a professional, I have reached the next stage in my career, and I can’t be any more excited for what is in store for me. I am grateful to ONE Championship for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talents to the world. It is an honor to face Aung La N Sang for the belt. I respect him and what he has accomplished, but I am confident of victory, and my hand will be raised as the new middleweight champion.”

ANGELA LEE REMAINS AS ONE WOMEN’S ATOMWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION WITH UNANIMOUS DECISION WIN OVER MEI YAMAGUCHI

18 May 2018 – Singapore: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), hosted another memorable and historic evening in its home-base of Singapore, as the capacity crowd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium witnessed an amazing display of heart-pounding martial arts action. ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS featured a series of compelling bouts, punctuated by three unforgettable championship clashes that left fans on the edge of their seats. In the main event, Angela Lee successfully defended the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship against Mei Yamaguchi. In the co-main event, Sam-A Gaiyanghadao scored a fourth-round knockout victory over Sergio Wielzen to capture the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Championship. Meanwhile, Martin Nguyen retained the ONE Featherweight World Championship, defeating Christian Lee via razor-thin split decision.

In the main event of ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS, Angela “Unstoppable” Lee of Singapore continued her reign as the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, notching a unanimous decision victory over Japan’s Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi. Lee and Yamaguchi traded heavy blows and showcased high-level, tactical grappling skills all throughout the bout to the delight of a packed Singapore Indoor Stadium crowd. Yamaguchi started out very strong in the early going, but Lee came close with several near-submissions. Throughout five gruelling rounds, Lee dug deep to show the heart of a champion, doing just enough to earn the unanimous decision win.

Angela Lee, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, stated: “It’s a huge night for me and my family. It’s not easy to do what we’re doing inside the cage. Martial arts fans and their love for the sport are the reason why we’re fighting. This is for you guys. Props to Mei Yamaguchi. She’s an amazing and very talented competitor. Thank you for the opportunity.”

In the co-main event of the evening, Sam-A Gaiyanghadao of Thailand exhibited his stellar and fearsome form against Dutch kickboxer Sergio Wielzen to become the first-ever ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Champion. Banking on his trademark power to dominate from start to finish, Sam-A hammered hard elbows to score a knockdown in the fourth round. Reeling in excruciating pain, Wielzen failed to beat the count of ten, compelling the referee to wave off the bout and declare Sam-A the winner via knockout.

Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Australia successfully defended the ONE Featherweight World Championship title, defeating Singaporean rival Christian “The Warrior” Lee by way of closely-contested split decision. Neither would give each other any quarter for five whole rounds in the championship clash. Although Nguyen would have his moments on his feet in the first two rounds, most of the action took place in the grappling arena. Lee enjoyed a tremendous advantage on the ground, negating his opponent’s signature firepower. Determined to keep the gold-plated strap around his waist, Nguyen bombarded Lee with a barrage of solid punches midway of the third round. With lesser activity from Lee, Nguyen continued to press the action up to the final round to emerge victorious on two of the three judges’ scorecards, earning him the split decision win.

Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex of Thailand aced his maiden ONE Super Series assignment with flying colors, toppling Dutch-Congolese powerhouse Chris Ngimbi in their three-round kickboxing catchweight collision. Having a stationary target in front of him, Yodsanklai freely clobbered Ngimbi with solid left straights and harrowing right hooks from the get-go. Yodsanklai picked up the pace in the next two rounds of the bout, continuously pummeling Ngimbi with lashing kicks to the body. Yodsanklai closed out the final round of the match on a strong note, stifling Ngimbi with more offense. In the end, Yodsanklai’s dominant performance was rewarded by the three judges at cageside with a unanimous decision victory.

Japanese martial arts legend Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki made quick work of Rasul Yakhyaev, submitting the grizzled Russian combatant in the very first round. The former ONE Lightweight World Champion got the job done by compelling Yakhyaev to wave the white flag, courtesy of a wrenching triangle choke submission.

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines showcased a dominant all-around performance in his much-awaited return, defeating previously-unbeaten Russian dynamo Kharun “The Predator” Atlangeriev. With the drive to reinsert his name into the winner’s column after a tough setback in November 2017, Folayang completely shut down Atlangeriev, keeping the Russian at the long end of his straight right hand and quick sidekicks to the body. Folayang also landed various flush shots and stuffed numerous takedowns to earn the unanimous decision victory.

Singaporean lightweight contender Amir Khan placed himself back on the winning track by routing Sung Jong Lee of South Korea via second-round technical knockout victory. Both men gave fans a spirited effort, which featured a healthy stream of action from both corners. Momentum started to shift into Khan’s favor in the dying moments of the opening stanza, as he caught Lee with a two-punch combination. Showcasing tremendous power with every strike, Khan stalked for the finish in the second round as Lee gasped for air due to exhaustion. Seeing an opportunity, Khan swarmed on Lee with a heavy downpour of punches, forcing the referee to wave it off and award the win to the Singaporean standout.

Making his ONE Super Series debut, celebrated Muay Thai legend Singtongnoi Por Telakun authored a spectacular performance to the delight of the crowd, outclassing WBC Muay Thai Super Bantamweight World Champion Joseph Lasiri. Despite the long layoff, Singtongnoi appeared that he did not miss a beat, dropping Lasiri twice in the first round and consistently connecting his signature sharp combinations. In the second round, Singtongnoi unleashed a torrent of impactful strikes, coercing the referee to step in and call a halt to the contest.

Xie Chao of China showcased incredible grit and toughness as he overcame a furious start from Cambodia’s Meas Meul, winning by technical knockout in the third round. Meul stormed out of the gates, immediately scoring a takedown and then positioning himself on top to pummel Xie with ground strikes. However, the complexion of the three-round featherweight clash started to change towards the end of the first round. Xie capitalized on an exhausted Meul and nearly ended matters on the ground with a deep rear-naked choke. In the succeeding rounds of the contest, Xie maneuvered his Cambodian foe on the mat effortlessly and drilled Meul with punishing ground-and-pound to claim the stoppage and the victory.

China’s Xie Bin spoiled the ONE Championship debut of Huang Shi Hao, thwarting the Singaporean newcomer by way of second-round technical knockout. After an intense first round which saw both athletes have their moments, Xie took advantage of an exhausted Shi Hao in the second round, securing the finish after blasting his Singaporean counterpart with a volley of punches and a knee strike to the midsection.

Kicking off ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS was a bantamweight encounter between “The Terminator” Sunoto of Indonesia and Roel “Akiyama” Rosauro of the Philippines. Leaning on his impeccable grappling, Sunoto burned out his opponent, consistently bringing Rosauro to the canvas and controlling the action with crisp ground strikes. With a dominant top game, Sunoto notched his third consecutive victory in 2018, defeating Rosauro as all three judges saw the bout in favor of the Indonesian to win by unanimous decision.

CES MMA NY offers rare opportunity for hometown fighters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 1st, 2018) — On Friday, Kenny Foster gets to enjoy a fight-day routine he, unlike many of his peers, hasn’t had the luxury of experiencing.

“It’s going to be really cool to wake up in my own bed, even take my dog for a walk in the morning,” said Foster, the Long Island lightweight who faces Jacob Bohn (5-5, 1 KO) in the co-feature of “CES MMA NY” at The Space at Westbury Theater on Friday, May 4th, 2018.

“Kiss my girlfriend, pet my dog, and go fight. I drive by that place almost every day on my way to work. It’s pretty cool.”

Like many New York fighters, Foster (12-12, 1 KO) has had to carve his niche as a well-traveled road warrior due in large part to the fact New York state didn’t legalize mixed martial arts until Gov. Andrew Cuomo officially signed the bill in 2016. By then, Foster already had 22 professional fights under his belt. He fought everywhere from Rhode Island, New Jersey, New Hampshire and even Oklahoma, but never in a sanctioned event in his home state.

Friday’s event at Westbury Theater is CES MMA’s first venture into New York after promoting 49 shows throughout New England since its inception in 2010. Later this summer, the wildly-successful promotion will host its 50th event, but first dips its toes into the Big Apple water this weekend with a stacked lineup featuring a handful of New York’s most renowned fighters.

In addition to Foster, whose opponent, Bohn, hails from the small upstate town of Le Roy, “CES MMA NY” also features an all-New York main event between Glens Falls native Matthew Secor (9-5) and Brazilian welterweight Renee Forte (8-4, 2 KOs), also fighting out of Long Island. Oyster Bay welterweight John Gotti III (1-0) makes his highly-anticipated New York debut as a professional in a three-round bout against Eddie Haws (0-1) of Schenectady.

Tickets for “CES MMA NY” are priced at $100.00, $115.00, $175.00 and $200.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesmma.com or by phone at 401-724-2253/2254. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

While professional MMA is still relatively new to the scene, the sky’s the limit for many of the state’s active fighters to begin boosting their resumes without having to always the roll the dice in an opponent’s backyard.

Foster has made a successful living spoiling the party in other fighter’s hometowns, including his appearance at “CES MMA 42” in 2017 at Twin River Casino in which he beat Rhode Islander Joe Pingitore by unanimous decision.

With the opportunity to fight at home, Foster could earn another much-needed win in front of family and friends, many of whom haven’t been able to see him fight live, while also opening the door for sponsors and investors, a potential economic boom for New York’s close-knit MMA community.

“A lot of this game now is about marketing yourself,” Foster said. “This is such a busy place.

“New York City is really its own entity. New York state is huge. The gyms here are filled with tough, tough guys, a lot of tough fighters. The money is the biggest resource. These are some of the most expensive places to live in the country. New York City is the most densely-populated suburb. It’s almost overwhelming.”

The bright lights of New York have, in fact, overwhelmed professional athletes in the past, though more so in team sports. New York is famous for its relentless media and demanding fan bases, but Foster sees it as a blessing to fight in front of a raucous crowd of supporters, a luxury many of CES MMA’s fighter enjoy regularly while fighting in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

“I’ve fought on a pretty big stage before and competed on some of the sport’s biggest stages,” said Foster, whose resume includes eight appearances with Bellator in addition to two fight with CES MMA.

“To me, it’s more of a sentimental value than pressure. I’m 32 now. I’ll perform how I’m going to perform. It’s not like I’m worried about anything in particular. I just really want to put on a good show and display my talents to the people that are here to see me. That’s what’s important to me – putting on a good show and bringing a little more notoriety.”

Foster is a construction worker for the Local 7 tile, marble and terrazzo union in Queens, so his daily commute often takes him through New York’s most populated cities past some of the state’s iconic venues, among them the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. Westbury Theater is merely half an hour from his home.

“Driving there is actually the most convenient thing for me,” he said.

The stakes are high Friday as CES MMA makes its Big Apple, but the timing couldn’t be better. Since the UFC broke the ice in New York with UFC 205 in 2016, the state has benefited from the undeniable economics of mixed martial arts. CES MMA is simply the latest in a long line of successful promotions ready to reap the benefits as it presents yet another action-packed fight card Friday night.

“With all the money here, all the things local fighters can get their hands on, all the local businesses involves, it’s amazing what this will evolve into once it’s more frequent,” Foster said. “We can really blow the lid off this shit.”

Also on “CES MMA NY,” two-time CES MMA vet Miguel Restrepo (4-4-1), now fighting out of Brooklyn, battles Franklin, Mass., flyweight Bill Giovanella (8-8, 3 KOs) and heavyweight Jahsua Marsh (2-3, 1 KO) of Brentwood fights in New York as a professional for the first time in a three-round bout against unbeaten South Portland, Maine, veteran Ras Hylton (2-0, 1 KO).

Bantamweight Sergio Da Silva (6-9) of New York City battles Milford, N.H., native Walter Smith-Cotito (5-5, 1 KO) and Al Jones (2-3, 1 KO) also of New York, faces Elmira veteran Quentin Gaskins (1-4) in a bantamweight bout.

Light heavyweight Jahnell Parkinson (1-0) of Albany faces newcomer Terrance Jean-Jacques of Haverhill, Mass., and Amsterdam, N.Y., middleweight Tom Regal (2-0, 2 KOs) puts his unbeaten record on the line against Worcester, Mass., vet Reginaldo Felix (3-2, 3 KOs).

KEVIN BELINGON DOMINATES ANDREW LEONE TO WIN BY SECOND ROUND TKO

20 April 2018 – Manila, Philippines: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), delivered another amazing spectacle at the Mall of Asia Arena, delighting the packed crowd with a display of world-class martial arts action. Manila played host to ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, featuring the absolute best in local and international martial arts talent. Also making its highly-anticipated debut is the all-new five rope ring, which served as the proving ground for both ONE Super Series and ONE Championship bouts. In the main event, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of Baguio City, Philippines defeated American Andrew Leone by technical knockout. In the co-main event of the blockbuster card, Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan earned a unanimous decision victory over Jo Nattawut.

In the main event of the evening, Team Lakay’s Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon dazzled once again with another ferocious display of striking, obliterating opponent Andrew Leone of the United States within two rounds. Action was fierce and relentless from start to finish, and began with Belingon swarming Leone from the sound of the opening bell. As the American tried desperately to stave off attacks which came from all directions, Belingon continued to put on the pressure. In the second round, Belingon connected on a thunderous spinning side kick that sent Leone to the canvas, where he followed and unloaded an unending volley of strikes to earn the technical knockout victory and the GoDaddy KO of the Night.

In the co-main event of ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, international kickboxing superstar Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan made a spectacular ONE Championship debut, outworking former Lion Fight World Champion “Smokin’” Jo Nattawut of Thailand. In an offensive clinic against Nattawut, Petrosyan tore apart his opponent with the surgical precision he has become known for, putting together dynamic punch combinations in addition to his pinpoint accurate kicks. Answering every strike that Nattawut unleashed, Petrosyan outworked his opponent to pick up a unanimous decision win in his first bout for ONE Super Series.

The stunning career resurgence of former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario as a lightweight division mainstay continued at ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, where he edged out perennial contender Adrian Pang after three rounds. Banario showcased his pinpoint striking early on, peppering Pang with his patented left hook and razor-sharp kicks. Although Pang boldly traded strikes with his Filipino foe and found success in landing hard body shots, Banario showed superiority in ring generalship, creating spaces to clobber his opponent with long jabs and snapping kicks to the body. As Pang stepped on the gas pedal and pressed the action in the third round, Banario’s intelligent movement notched him a split decision.

Making his ONE Super Series debut, legendary Nong-O Gaiyanghadao of Thailand took on former two-time WBC Muay Thai World Champion Fabio Pinca of Lyon, France in a spirited Muay Thai contest featuring plenty of action and excitement. The two traded their best shots in three solid rounds of action, but it was Gaiyanghadao who showcased superior technique, plastering Pinca with thudding left kicks to the midsection and scoring with his patented sweeps. In the end, all three judges ruled the bout in favor of Gaiyanghadao, earning the former four-time Lumpinee Stadium champion a unanimous decision victory.

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov made quick work of up-and-coming American featherweight contender Emilio Urrutia, winning by way of first-round submission, placing himself back on the winning track. Returning to his stellar and fearsome form as a highly-touted competitor, Gafurov showcased his world-class grappling once again, effortlessly putting Urrutia to sleep courtesy of a wrenching arm triangle choke.

Rekindling the intense rivalry between South Korea and Japan, former world title challenger Dae Hwan Kim came out on top against Japanese legend Masakazu Imanari, winning by unanimous decision. Driven to victory against a grappling wizard like Imanari, Kim intelligently avoided putting himself at risk in his opponent’s submission wheelhouse and exerted his best effort to dictate the action from the stand-up. Although Imanari found a way to bring matters to the ground, Kim made sure that he had sturdy top control, with the leverage to rain down quick but solid ground-and-pound. After three gruelling rounds, all judges at ringside saw the bout in favor of Kim.

Cosmo Alexandre left a lasting impression in his ONE Super Series debut, defeating Elliot Compton in their Muay Thai clash by way of second round knockout. The long-limbed Brazilian dynamo aced his maiden ONE Super Series assignment with flying colors, bringing down Compton with a shattering uppercut and a follow-up knee strike to the body. Reeling in excruciating pain, Compton failed to answer the count of ten, compelling the referee to wave off the bout, declaring Alexandre the victor via knockout in the second round.

In a bout that lasted just under two minutes, ONE Championship debutants Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa and Kaji “Alpha” Ebin walked out to the ring looking to engage. At the opening bell, Ebin marched forward wanting to trade strikes, but it was Fujisawa who would score on a single-leg takedown. Not long after, Ebin began complaining about a dislocated shoulder. At that point, referee Yuji Shimada called a halt to the contest after Ebin could no longer continue due to injury, which awarded Fujisawa with the submission victory.

In the first ONE Super Series bout of the evening, Regian Eersel impressively marched to a unanimous decision victory over Brad Riddell in a three-round kickboxing contest. Banking on his height and length, Eersel effortlessly pummeled Riddell with lashing strikes, including a solid knee to the midsection that dropped the Auckland, New Zealand native to the mat in the second round. Eersel closed out the final round of the match on a strong note, limiting Riddell’s offense with his counter strikes. In the end, Eersel was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

After falling short in her last outing, Gina Iniong of Team Lakay redeemed herself in front of a passionate hometown crowd, claiming a unanimous decision victory over former world title contender Jenny Huang. Iniong savored every strike that she threw at Huang as the latter gallantly traded shots with the highly-decorated Filipina wushu practitioner. Huang tried to change the complexion of the contest in the second round as she resorted to her grappling expertise, but Iniong surprisingly overpowered the submission specialist on the mat. In the final round, Iniong continued to wear out Huang on the ground, working her way towards a hard-earned decision victory.

Kicking off ONE: HEROES OF HONOR was a riveting three-round strawweight showdown between Indonesian standout Adrian Mattheis and China’s Lan Ming Qiang. Setting up a promising tone for the evening, both men went back-and-forth from bell to bell, exchanging thunderous strikes in the stand-up department while shooting for powerful takedowns. In the end, Mattheis dominated his opponent, emerging triumphant via unanimous decision.

ONE Championship Kicks Off ONE: HEROES OF HONOR in Manila with Press Conference

17 April 2018 – Manila, Philippines: Asia’s premier martial arts organization, ONE Championship, is back in Manila for its second of four shows in 2018. In a press conference held at the Grand Ballroom of the City of Dreams in Manila, the promotion kicked off its latest event, ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, which is set for Friday, 20 April, at the Mall of Asia Arena. Photos of the event can be downloaded here.

In attendance were Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, Chatri Sityodtong, main event combatants Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of Baguio City, Philippines and Andrew Leone of Cortland, New York, USA, global kickboxing superstar Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan and opponent ‘Smokin’ Jo Nattawut of Thailand, among others.

Belingon (17-5), who is currently riding a four-bout winning streak, takes on former bantamweight world title challenger Leone (8-3) in a contest with huge title implications. Both Belingon and Leone are seeking a rematch against reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, but will have to go through each other to secure it.

“I know Andrew Leone is a tough opponent, and I need to be at my best to win. It’s going to be one of my biggest matches to date,” said Belingon. “I am very thankful to ONE Championship for allowing me to be a part of this historic event. I can’t leave anything to chance. I have to give another great performance. Beating Leone would be the next step to the title.”

Belingon’s opponent Leone also knows what’s at stake in this matchup, and he isn’t taking the Filipino lightly by any means.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me. I can’t wait to go up there and show what I can do, to perform to the best of my ability,” said Leone. “Kevin Belingon is a tough guy. He’s a hard puncher and he has power. But I’m not worried about his striking. I’ve faced tough guys before. All I can say is that I’ll be ready.”

ONE: HEROES OF HONOR also marks the world premiere of the highly-anticipated ONE Super Series. Announced earlier this year, ONE Super Series aims to provide the world’s best martial artists a prestigious global platform to showcase the beauty of Asia’s striking arts such as Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, taekwondo, Kung Fu, wushu, sanda, silat, lethwei, and more.

“It’s an open invitation to the greatest strikers in the world,” said Sityodtong. “Fans will witness the absolute elite in striking martial arts, as they go head-to-head on the biggest and most prestigious global stage of competition.”

With ONE Super Series, ONE Championship is now considered the largest martial arts organization in the world. While competing promotions do offer a similar product, according to Sityodtong, they only offer one flavor of martial arts as opposed to ONE Championship which hosts bouts across all styles of martial arts.

“Aside from the many great bouts this Friday night, what I’m most excited about is the launch of ONE Super Series. ONE Championship is the only global player to encompass all styles of martial arts,” said Sityodtong. “We have the best in all styles going up against each other. That’s definitely something to look forward to.”

Making his appearance in the co-main event of the evening, kickboxing elite Giorgio Petrosyan is elated at his chance to leverage ONE Championship’s massive worldwide audience reach. Broadcast to a potential 1.7 billion on any given night to over 136 countries worldwide, ONE Super Series will harness the full potential of ONE Championship’s global influence in order to highlight the greatest in striking martial arts.

And while the promotion is gearing up for a very busy mid-year, Sityodtong teases that there are plenty more surprises to come, including the highly-anticipated launch of ONE Championship’s new mobile app, slated to arrive in the coming months.

“The new ONE Championship mobile app is a true game changer in the world of martial arts,” said Sityodtong. “Soon, fans will have access to all our blockbuster live events and complete library of Hi-Definition content in the palm of their hands, all for free, and you can watch from anywhere in the world. It’s going to take ONE Championship to the next level.”

Before the end of the press conference, Sityodtong also revealed plans to establish a professional boxing league in addition to ONE Super Series, inviting the greatest boxers from the Philippines and around the world to join the promotion.

Also in attendance at the press conference were main card competitors Honorio “The Rock” Banario of Team Lakay, opponent Adrian “The Hunter” Pang of Australia, as well as various ONE Championship athletes who mixed in with the crowd and participated in the festivities.

ONE: HEROES OF HONOR goes down this Friday, 20 April at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. Gates open at 6:30 PM local time.

In the co-main event, longtime Bellator vet Kenny Foster (12-12, 1 KO) of Corona makes his third appearance with CES MMA in a featherweight showdown against Jacob Bohn (5-5) of Le Roy, who returns to CES MMA following his debut with the promotion in May of 2017. A two-time Bellator vet, Da Silva last fought for the promotion in June of 2017 at Bellator NYC at Madison Square Garden. Smith-Cotito also starred on two Bellator preliminary cards against regional rivals and CES MMA alumni Kin Moy and Blair Tugman. Jones hopes to build off his win over Jack Hartenstine in December in Atlantic City.

Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated: “I am thrilled to announce ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest nights in the history of martial arts. Three world title bouts are set to take place in Singapore. Headlining the card is Asia’s biggest martial arts star, ‘Unstoppable’ Angela Lee, as she continues to embody the true warrior spirit of martial arts. She returns to the ONE Championship cage to resume her incredible career. Mei Yamaguchi is ready to give her a tough challenge however, and the two have danced inside the cage once before. Also, I am pleased to announce that Martin Nguyen will face Christian Lee in defense of his ONE Featherweight World Championship title. Martin has just come back from a tremendous battle with Bibiano Fernandes last March, and has made a quick turnaround to defend his featherweight title like a true world champion. Finally, we are set to crown the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Champion, as Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Sergio Wielzen vie for the title. It’s going to be a phenomenal night of action for sure, and fans will not want to miss the excitement at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.”

21-year-old “Unstoppable” Angela Lee of Singapore is considered one of ONE Championship’s most outstanding athletes. She captured the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship with an awe-inspiring victory over Mei Yamaguchi in 2016, and has since then defended the title successfully on two occasions. Lee’s beautiful combination of elite striking and grappling has proven to be a potent formula for success, as she has remained unbeaten in her career. In the most recent bout of an impressive run, Lee dominated top contender Istela Nunes, showcasing her wide array of skills. She is widely-considered on a global scale to be one of the biggest names actively competing in the sport. She is set to defend her title next against Yamaguchi in a rematch.

35-year-old Japanese martial arts veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi is a female atomweight standout and a former ONE world title challenger from Tokyo. She is the DEEP Jewels Featherweight Champion, and owns seven submissions and two knockouts in her 28-bout professional career. In 2016, Yamaguchi challenged Angela Lee for the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship in an epic showdown that would later win multiple ‘Bout of the Year’ honors from international media publications. In her last outing, Yamaguchi thoroughly defeated Gina Iniong of the Philippines to win impressively by unanimous decision after three rounds. Yamaguchi is now set to take on champion Angela Lee in a highly-anticipated rematch.

34-year-old Sam-A Gaiyanghadao is a Muay Thai legend and multiple-time Lumpinee Stadium world champion who is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. As a Muay Thai practitioner, Sam-A owns a record of 364-46-9, and was known for his strong defense and counter offense. An instructor at Evolve in Singapore and a member of the prestigious Evolve Fight Team, Sam-A made his first ONE Championship appearance last January against Joseph Lasiri in the first-ever Muay Thai bout inside the ONE Championship cage. Sam-A is set to lock horns with Sergio Wielzen, whom he will compete against for the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Championship.

Lion Fight Muay Thai World Lightweight Champion, Sergio “Little One” Wielzen of Suriname is a Dutch-based martial artist training out of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. With a professional kickboxing record of 45-18-2, Wielzen has built a reputation as being an explosive striker with stunning knockout power. Despite being physically smaller than most of his opponents, Wielzen has won many of his bouts by knockout. He is also a former It’s Showtime 61MAX world champion. Wielzen is set to make his ONE Super Series debut opposite Muay Thai legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao.

29-year-old Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen is one of the most highly-regarded martial arts champions in the world. With an impressive 10-2 professional record, which includes three submissions and seven knockouts, Nguyen’s all-around skill set allows him to perform at the highest level of competition. All of Nguyen’s wins have come by exciting finish. Last November, Nguyen scored a scintillating knockout victory over the Philippines’ Eduard Folayang to become the first man in the history of ONE Championship to hold two titles simultaneously in different weight divisions, reigning as both ONE Featherweight & Lightweight World Champion. In his last bout, Nguyen figured in a historic showdown with ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes in Bangkok. Nguyen now makes a quick turnaround however, jumping right back into action as he defends his featherweight title against Christian Lee.

19-year-old Christian “The Warrior” Lee, younger brother of reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, began his professional career on an absolute tear, railing off five straight victories by thrilling finish. He has impressed fans with his ability to seek out stoppage wins over top-caliber opponents featuring an exciting fan-friendly style. A former Pankration World Champion, Lee toppled Japanese veteran Kazunori Yokota in his most recent bout, winning via second-round guillotine choke to improve his record to 9-1. Riding an impressive four-bout winning streak with all four wins coming by finish, Lee is set to showcase his skills once more inside the ONE Championship cage. In his next bout, Lee has the chance to become a world champion when he challenges Martin Nguyen, the only man to ever defeat him, for the ONE Featherweight World Championship.

32-year-old Yodsanklai Fairtex is one of the most recognizable names in the world of Muay Thai. Known by the moniker “The Boxing Computer” as a testament to his impeccable in-ring techniques, he has won numerous championships in his stellar kickboxing career, including the WBC Super Welterweight Muay Thai World Championship and the coveted Lumpinee Stadium World Championship. Yodsanklai will face Chris Ngimbi in his ONE Super Series debut.

Chris “The African Warrior” Ngimbi is a Congolese-Dutch kickboxer who hails from Eindhoven, Netherlands. Having nearly 70 bouts under his belt, Ngimbi has a long list of international accolades as a competitor. He looks to bolster his glowing repertoire as a global kickboxing superstar, as he battles Muay Thai legend Yodsanklai Fairtex in ONE Super Series.

Global martial arts veteran Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki of Shizuoka, Japan, is one of the world’s most decorated athletes. He is a DREAM Lightweight Champion, Shooto Welterweight Champion, and former ONE Lightweight World Champion. The 34-year-old Aoki is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the famed Yuki Nakai, and has won multiple grappling tournaments all over the world. Aoki also holds a black belt in judo and is widely considered one of the best pure grapplers in professional martial arts competition today. In his next bout, Aoki looks to regain his status among the promotion’s top lightweights as he takes on Rasul Yakhyaev.

26-year-old Rasul Yakhyaev of Grozny, Russia, is a lightweight competitor who has racked up a solid following over his seven-year professional career. A jiu-jitsu and combat sambo practitioner, he is adept in both striking and mat techniques, and is considered a solid contender with tremendous combat skills. A well-rounded warrior, four of Yakhyaev’s victories have come by submission while three have come by knockout. After establishing a name for himself in Eastern Europe, he made his ONE Championship debut in December of 2015. In his most recent contest, Yakhyaev defeated highly-regarded lightweight Shannon Wiratchai by unanimous decision. He now seeks to take his career to the next level against former world champion Shinya Aoki.

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the legendary Team Lakay in Baguio City is one of the Philippines’ most experienced martial artists. After nearly a decade of competing in various promotions, Folayang has amassed an impressive 18-6 professional record. The 34-year-old veteran has reinvented himself by transitioning from a pure striker to an all-around martial artist, showcasing a highly-improved wrestling and grappling arsenal. Now set to return to the ONE Championship cage in Singapore, Folayang will face Kharun Atlangeriev with the intention of putting himself back in the world title picture.

25-year-old Kharun “Predator” Atlangeriev of Russia is an unbeaten martial artist with a perfect 11-0 record. Atlangeriev has gone the distance just once in his professional stint, as ten of his 11 career wins have come by way of finish. He eyes to make an impact in his ONE Championship debut by defeating a former world titleholder in Eduard Folayang.

23-year-old Singaporean top lightweight contender Amir Khan is a martial artist with a stellar professional record of 9-3. He is considered one of the most promising young talents to represent Singapore on the global stage of martial arts. Khan has won an impressive six of his last seven bouts, and owns eight spectacular finishes on his resume. Sung Jong Lee of Cheonan, South Korea, is a 32-year-old martial artist set to compete in the talented lightweight division of ONE Championship. Lee holds a professional record of four wins and one loss. Always looking to finish on the mat, Lee is a dangerous grappler who is capable of ending matches in a variety of ways. Lee steps inside the ONE Championship cage for the first time at ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS as he is set to face Singaporean hometown hero Amir Khan.

Under the tutelage of Diego Calzolari, the first Italian to ever win at the world-famous Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok, he captured the WBA Super Bantamweight and interim WBC Super Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championships. Lasiri made his first ONE Championship appearance last January against multi-division Lumpinee World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao in the first-ever Muay Thai bout inside the ONE Championship cage. In his next outing, Lasiri seeks to redeem himself as he takes on Thailand’s Singtongnoi Por Telakun in ONE Super Series.

Huang Shi Hao of Singapore is a 25-year-old martial artist set to compete in ONE Championship’s stacked bantamweight division. A decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, Huang hones his skills to be a complete martial artist at the Singapore BJJ gym. After dominating the amateur ranks with his exquisite talent, Shi Hao fully realizes his dream to be a professional athlete, as he is scheduled to make his ONE Championship debut against China’s Xie Bin.

20-year-old Xie Bin of China is one of the most talented young fighters to come out of Tianjin. He started off his martial arts career with a victory over compatriot Ma Shuang at ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS and has since put on several thrilling shows as a professional. In his last bout, Xie submitted Cambodia’s Chan Rothana with an impressive second-round Brabo choke. He is currently riding a two-bout winning streak and will look to push it to three when he takes on Huang Shi Hao.

Indonesian martial arts veteran “The Terminator” Sunoto is a ONE Championship bantamweight and a former WKF Indonesia Champion. Representing IndoGym and Team Phantom, Sunoto features a style that combines elements of kickboxing, karate, and jiu-jitsu. With a penchant for scoring spectacular finishes, five of Sunoto’s eight victories have ended before the final bell. The 33-year-old is known as an aggressive warrior who never backs down from a challenge. In his last outing, Sunoto continued to impress on the global stage, defeating Hisyam Samsudin by unanimous decision. His next bout will be against Roel Rosauro of the Philippines.

29-year-old Roel “Akiyama” Rosauro of Cebu City, Philippines, is a Filipino martial arts prospect who trains in the art of Yaw-Yan. A striking specialist, Rosauro is known for his powerful hands and lightning-quick punches. Rosauro made his promotional debut at ONE: QUEST FOR GOLD opposite China’s Li Kai Wen, joining a growing list of promising talents in ONE Championship. It’s all fun and games for cool, calm Andrews

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 4th, 2018) — Nothing has changed stylistically for Nate Andrews during his recent six-fight win streak. No tweaks. No gimmicks. No inspirational quotes taped to the inside of his locker.

The Nate Andrew who’s steamrolled through his last six opponents is the same Nate Andrews who ran off six consecutive wins before suffering his first and only loss in 2014, minus the unnecessary pressure of keeping his perfect record intact.

“I go out there and have fun,” said the East Providence, R.I., lightweight, who fights Friday, April 6th, 2018 at Twin River Casino for the vacant CES MMA World Lightweight Title at “CES MMA 49” on AXS TV.

“Nerves don’t get to me like they did earlier in my career. Now it’s fun to me. That’s the most important thing.”

The cool, calm Andrews (12-1, 5 KOs) faces Chris Padilla (9-3, 4 KOs) of Gardena, Calif., in one of two five-round world title bouts on the “CES MMA 49” main card. Reigning CES MMA World Welterweight Champion Chris Curtis (17-5, 6 KOs) also returns to Twin River to defend his title against Lawton, Okla., veteran Jason Norwood (18-4, 5 KOs).

Tickets for “CES MMA 49” are priced at $47.00, $57.00, $102.00 and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com, www.cagetix.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Friday’s preliminary card begins at 7 p.m. ET with the televised main card airing live at 9.

Some would argue Andrews’ shot at a world title is long overdue since he quietly began his recent win streak with a first-round knockout over Jay Bakanowski at “CES MMA 29” in 2015, but Andrews truthfully never coveted the belt, not with teammate Luis Felix capturing the championship from Julian Lane later that year at “CES MMA 30.”

Like most fighters, Andrews has always had his sights on the UFC. Winning the title Friday would be the logical next step toward getting the call.

“Now that it’s open, I’m happy that I have this opportunity,” Andrews said. “I think it’s another notch on my belt. ‘Look at this guy’s record. It’s this good, and he has a belt.’ It’s one of those things that it’s almost like, ‘How can you deny him at that point?'”

Andrews’ recent hit list includes Lane, whom he eviscerated via second-round knockout at “CES MMA 33,” veteran George Sheppard and regional fan-favorite Bruce Boyington. Each of his last six wins have come by submission or knockout, including two in the third and final round against Manny Muro and Sheppard in back-to-back bouts.

“My work ethic is the same as it’s always been,” he said. “It’s always been about, ‘Give it your all, or don’t do it all.’ My work ethic hasn’t changed. My skill level has gotten way better. I’ve learned more over time, I’ve gotten better, and I’ve learned how to really understand the game more and put it all together. Since then, besides that, the work ethic is the same it’s always been. Give it 110 percent.”

While Andrews’ approach hasn’t changed much, if at all, it’s clear he’s more polished and better prepared both mentally and physically to handle his recent ascent to the top of the lightweight division. His manager, Tyson Chartier — himself a former fighter — also manages Rob Font, Calvin Kattar and Kyle Bochniak, all of whom competed together at UFC 220 in Boston, so Andrews’ name has certainly come up in conversations between Chartier and UFC executives.

At this point, Andrews knows the only thing he can control is his own performance in the cage. It takes a little luck, too, to get that call, especially in the red-hot lightweight division, which is loaded with talent at the UFC level from Tony Ferguson to Khabib Nurmagomedov, and even Connor McGregor, who remains among the top 10 at 155 pounds despite not having fought since 2016.

“It’s not like they’re just hiring lightweights left and right,” Andrews said. “For lightweights, it’s definitely one of those things where if someone gets hurt, or someone backs out of a fight, they go through their roster first and if no one takes it, they say, ‘Who’s out there? Who can we get in?’ It’s also who you know, too. It’s good to have certain connections that you make over the years that try to help you get that opportunity, too.”

Padilla presents a unique challenge. He won his first seven pro fights, ran into a bit of a rough patch in 2017 and has since rebounded with wins in two of his last three sandwiched around an appearance on Bellator 192. Friday will be his first appearance with CES MMA.

“He’s a very tough guy,” Andrews said. “I think he’s going to come out hard like he always does and I think he’s very tough, but I just don’t think he’s fought anyone at my level or anyone of my caliber of skill level. He’s going to come out tough, but I’m going to be a handful for him.”

While this is Andrews’ first five-round fight in addition to his first title bout, he’s maintained a consistent approach to his training routine without much outside interference, not even from Felix, whom he declined to seek out for advice on handling the pressure of fighting for a championship. The way he sees it, no one can guide him better than himself.

“I actually always train as if I’m training for a five-round fight, so I feel like I’ve been training for a title fight my whole career,” Andrews said. “Every fight has been a title fight for me.”

Andrews hasn’t fought three full rounds since his loss to Gemiyale Adkins four years ago, but doesn’t expect conditioning to be a problem, not with the way he trains for each bout. He’s prepared for whatever happens Friday, whether it’s a quick finish or a long night at the office.

“I’m ready to go. I train hard,” he said. “Obviously, I want to get the finish early and get in there and get out, but I’m ready to get in that deep water and show him how much I can swim.”

The AXS TV main card also features the return of UFC vet Sean Soriano (10-5, 5 KOs) of Woonsocket, R.I., red-hot welterweight Gary Balletto Jr. (5-1, 2 KOs) of nearby Cranston, and fan-favorite Kaline Medeiros (8-6, 2 KOs) of Fall River, Mass.

Balletto Jr., a winner in his last five bouts, returns to face Philadelphia native Jeremiah Wells (3-1-1, 1 KO). Soriano makes his third consecutive appearance with CES MMA in a featherweight bout against Jonathan Gary (13-9, 7 KOs) of Oklahoma City while Medeiros, a four-time Invicta Fighting Championships and two-time CES MMA vet, battles Brooklyn’s Jenna Serio (3-2, 1 KO).

Unbeaten flyweight Richie Santiago (6-0, 1 KO) of Milford, Mass., puts his perfect record on the line on the main card in a showdown against Binghamton, N.Y., native Matt Almy (3-1, 1 KO).

Providence, R.I., bantamweight Marquis Brewster (4-0, 1 KO) highlights the six-fight preliminary card in his toughest test to date against Tashawn Mack (6-4, 1 KO) of Lansing, Mich., who makes his second appearance with CES MMA. Unbeaten Providence bantamweight John Douma (2-0, 1 KO) returns for the third time to face Cortland, N.Y., vet Zachary Burhans (3-1) and Jose Lugo (1-0) of Woonsocket makes his second appearance with the promotion in a flyweight bout against Bronx debut Carlos Rodriguez Jr.

Also on the preliminary card, Springfield, Mass., lightweight Pat Casey debuts against Ryan Castro of Patchogue, N.Y., while light heavyweights Terrance Jean-Jacques of Haverhill, Mass., and Mark Glover of Elmira, N.Y., make their professional debuts against one another in a three-round bout.
