World Series of Fighting signs “The Ultimate Figther 18” competitor Cody Bollinger

World Series of Fighting is proud to announce the addition of Cody “Bam Bam” Bollinger (14-2) to the company’s bantamweight roster.

The 22-year-old Californian signed a multi-fight deal with World Series of Fighting and is expected to debut for the promotion in early 2014.

“Cody is an extremely talented fighter, and we’re thrilled to have him on board with our company,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “Cody has recently endured some tough times in his career, but we believe he is highly skilled and has a bright future in front of him. I can’t wait to see what he can accomplish in the World Series of Fighting decagon.”

Despite his young age, Bollinger has been competing professionally for seven years. Bollinger’s father signed a waiver for him to make his professional debut in 2006 at just 15 years old. He’s since built an impressive 14-2 mark, including five wins by submission and another four by knockout.

Most recently, Bollinger was a contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” where he defeated Rafael de Freitas to earn his way on to the show. However, he failed to make weight for his next fight with Anthony Gutierrez and was eliminated from the show.

“It is not every day that one finds himself living a dream that turns into a nightmare,” Bollinger wrote in his Revgear Sports blog. I knew heading into the show that this was going to be the hardest weight cut of my career. … I missed weight and have zero excuses about it, I didn’t adjust well enough to the situation I was put in and paid for that tremendously.”

Bollinger will now get a second chance to make a first impression.

“When one dream ends, you make the shift to chase a new one,” Bollinger said.

World Series of Fighting will soon crown the second champion in company history as Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (14-2-1) meets Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (22-3-1) for the promotion’s inaugural featherweight title.

The two meet at “World Series of Fighting 7: Johnson vs. Kyle,” which takes place Dec. 7 at PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The night’s main card airs on NBCSN at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT following prelims that stream on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com.

Glenn is a 24-year-old member of Wisconsin’s famed Roufusport team. An Iowa native, Glenn has been competing professionally since 2006 and is unbeaten in his past 12 contests. He’s fought twice under the World Series of Fighting banner, earning a knockout over Alexandre Pimentel in March and returning in September to score an impressive decision win over a previously unbeaten Artur Rofi.

Meanwhile, Karakhanyan brings an eight-fight win streak to the matchup. The 28-year-old Millennia MMA fighter, who was born in Russia but now makes his home in Southern California, also turned pro in 2006 and has since racked up 22 wins, including 12 submission victories and another four by knockout. WSOF announces second International division this month with Pancrase partnership

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 29, 2013) – The World Series of Fighting continues to expand its global footprint with the launch of World Series of Fighting Japan (WSOF Japan).

World Series of Fighting launches its new Japanese division in a partnership with the long-running and highly respected Pancrase organization, a Tokyo-based group that has promoted mixed martial arts events since 1993 and is widely considered one of the most historically important organizations in the sport.

“Japan has long been a home of top-level martial arts competitions of all types, and I personally have enjoyed some of the best moments of my fighting career there,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “I’m excited to announce this new division with the launch of World Series of Fighting Japan.

“I look forward to working with Pancrase CEO Masakazu Sakai and his team, and together we will produce amazing events for the Japanese fight fans, as well as big opportunities for both Asia-based fighters and MMA fighters around the globe.”

The first World Series of Fighting Japan event is expected to take place in early 2014. The relationship will allow fighters from both sides of the Pacific Ocean to be featured in fight cards in both the U.S. and Japan, including recent World Series of Fighting addition Yushin “Thunder” Okami (29-8), one of the world’s top-ranked middleweights.

The launch of World Series of Fighting Japan marks the second international branch of the WSOF brand to be announced in the past month alone, as World Series of Fighting Canada is set for a Dec. 7 debut. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.

WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 6 OFFICIAL RESULTS RECAP

Steve Carl pushed himself to the limits, and he walked away as World Series of Fighting’s first-ever champion.

Battling through injuries that hampered his final weeks of preparation, an exhausted Carl choked out resilient challenger Josh Burkman to claim the promotion’s inaugural welterweight belt.

The two squared off in the main event of Saturday’s “World Series of Fighting 6: Burkman vs. Carl,” which took place at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. and aired live on NBCSN.

Carl and Burkman wasted little time in getting to work, as each looked to attack from the opening bell. It was Burkman who took the upper-hand with an early takedown, but Carl worked hard to defend underneath.

As the fight wore on, both men enjoyed moments of success on the floor. Each had submission attempts that seemed destined to end the fight, but neither opponent would go away quite so easily. But as the bout entered the championship rounds, Carl emerged as the better fighter.

As the two grappled yet again, Carl went willingly to his back, where he locked in a tight triangle choke. Burkman tried hard to escape but was ultimately choked out at the 1:02 mark of the fourth frame. With the win, Carl claimed the first championship belt ever awarded by World Series of Fighting, but admitted he was capable of more.

“I felt like I could have performed a lot better, but there’s something not a lot of people know,” Carl said after the win. “Two weeks ago I was in the emergency room with torn muscles and a bulging disc in my back, unable to walk. My last two weeks have been nothing but rest and rehab to get here. I was bound and determined to take this fight, and I’m not really happy with my performance.

“I was so tired I wanted to quit there a couple times. Josh is a really game opponent, and he kept bringing it. Honestly, I didn’t think I could do it for a while. My cornermen just kept pushing me through it, and here we are. We did it.”

Carl (21-3) now boasts an impressive seven-fight win streak. Burkman (26-10) sees a five-fight win streak snapped, but will no doubt remain a top contender for the promotion.

In the night’s co-feature, Marlon Moraes earned his fourth World Series of Fighting victory with an impressive first-round finish of Carson Beebe.

With Beebe rushing forward for the takedown, Moraes defended the efforts while rattling off powerful punches. A few early uppercuts left Beebe rattled, and a massive left hook sent him toppling to the floor. Moraes pounced with a few short punches to finish the deal, and the bout was stopped after just 32 seconds.

Afterward, Moraes said Beebe’s wrestling skills also made him a vulnerable target.

“He’s a wrestler,” Moraes said. “He came hard to take me down, but I was ready. He was too close to try to take me down. I could hit him with some punches.”

Moraes (12-4-1) is now a perfect 4-0 for World Series of Fighting and would appear to be in line to challenge for the company’s first bantamweight belt. Beebe (14-3) falls to 1-2 in his past three appearances.

Welterweight contender Jon Fitch is no stranger to adversity, but he once again proved his heart in a gritty, three-round war with Marcelo Alfaya.

While Fitch (25-6-1) was heavily favored heading into the matchup, underdog Alfaya (15-7) pushed forward from the opening bell, bringing the fight to the floor and outgrappling Fitch, a vaunted wrestling ace. Alfaya tried to repeat the performance in the second before Fitch escaped to the feet and turned to his striking to shift the momentum. It was a wise decision.

After a tightly contested second frame, Fitch took over in the third, outworking Alfaya by defending takedowns and snapping his head back with several stiff strikes. It was clear Fitch took the final round, but the result of the fight remained in doubt until the judges’ scores were read.

Two of three judges sided with Fitch, and he was awarded a split-decision win. Afterward, he said he was confident he’d done enough to take home the win.

“I was fairly confident I did enough,” Fitch said. “I did a lot of damage, a lot of striking, a lot of stuff on top. He was able to control a lot of positions on me, which I wasn’t expecting. He was really strong, but I don’t think it was enough to win a fight.”

In the night’s first main-card matchup, lightweight Justin Gaethje shed the “prospect” tag in favor of a “contender” label with a brutal stoppage of durable veteran Dan Lauzon.

Gaethje and Lauzon engaged from the opening bell, but by the end of the first round, a dizzying barrage of leg kicks left Lauzon hobbling. He switched stances in the second, but Gaethje simply chopped away at the other limb before scoring two huge right hands that send Lauzon to the floor. Another punch on the floor sealed the TKO win at the 1:40 mark.

After the win, Gaethje said Lauzon’s lack of movement led to his demise.

“My strategy is always to work hard; I take the opportunities I get,” Gaethje said. “I definitely saw him planting his feet, so yeah, I was trying to tee off on that leg.”

Gaethje (10-0), who remains perfect for his career, is now 3-0 under the World Series of Fighting banner and may soon contend for the promotion’s inaugural lightweight belt. Lauzon (17-5) sees a five-fight winning streak snapped.
In the headlining attraction of the preliminary card, the unheralded Pablo Alfonso took advantage of the biggest opportunity in his career, wobbling and submitting former WEC champion Miguel Torres in impressive fashion.

Alfonso blitzed Torres in the early going and rocked him with a quick flurry of punches, including a pair of uppercuts that landed flush. As Torres hit the floor, Alfonso passed on an opportunity to look for a submission, choosing instead to try and strike his way to the win. Torres briefly recovered, but Alfonso (9-5) stayed on the attack and worked in a guillotine choke. With the hold tightening, Torres (40-7) tried desperately to pull free but was ultimately forced to tap out at the 3:05 mark of the first.

Thirteen-year MMA veteran Luiz Firmino has faced a who’s who list of opponents, but he picked up one of the most important wins of his career with a decision over fellow lightweight Jacob Volkmann.

The two grappling specialists relied heavily on their wrestling games, with Firmino perhaps surprisingly getting the best of the takedowns in the early going. Volkmann struggled to shift the momentum throughout the tedious three-round affair, but Firmino kept establishing top position and earning points with the judges, eventually taking a unanimous-decision win over Volkmann (16-5), 29-28 on all three judges’ cards.

In a grappling-heavy catchweight contest, Chad Robichaux used a non-stop submission attack to tap out a previously undefeated Andrew Yates.

Robichaux looked to end the fight early, latching on to a guillotine choke in the opening seconds and later transitioning to a triangle. However, Yates survived each hold, eventually slamming Robichaux to the canvas, and crawled back to his feet. Unfortunately, he remained in hot water for the entirety of the round.

Robichaux (13-2) continued the assault in the second, and while Yates (7-1) continued to flash impressive defense, “Robo” nailed a beautiful sweep from the bottom to turn over and lock in a north-south choke, putting “The Golden Boy” to sleep with 51 seconds left in the round.

In an early barnburner, 23-year-old Josh Rettinghouse scored an upset win over Olympic wrestling medalist Alexis Vila.

The taller Rettinghouse also flashed impressive speed, as he moved in and out of Vila’s range and delivered both punches and kicks to all levels. Meanwhile, the powerful Vila walked confidently forward and threw heavy leather, constantly hunting for the knockout. After back-and-forth action in the first two rounds, Vila took over in the third. An early takedown scored points, as did a few knees on the floor. Rettinghouse worked back to his feet and looked to strike, but Vila’s grappling scored him two more takedowns.

A gutsy Rettinghouse (10-2) flurried in the final minute and pressed until the final bell of the spirited contest. In the end, judges felt he had done enough to take home the win, as he was awarded a unanimous-decision win over Vila (13-4) with scores of 29-28 on all three judges’ cards.

In early featherweight action, undefeated prospect Nick LoBosco (7-0) announced himself as a fighter to watch with a brutal first-round knockout of veteran Fabio Mello (11-7). After a brief feeling out process, LoBosco launched a high kick that landed flush and sent Mello to the floor. From there, LoBosco pounced with massive right hands that finished the job at the 2:02 mark of the first round.

In the night’s first fight, grappling ace Alexandre Pimentel (13-1) submitted a game Jade Porter (9-4) in the third frame. While Porter showed excellent submission defense throughout the fight, Pimentel finally worked to the back in the third round. While he was unable to finish with a rear-naked choke, he instead transitioned beautifully to a triangle choke earning the tap at the 3:05 mark of the final round.

In a walkout bout, Hans Stringer (21-5-3) and Francisco France (8-3-1) battled their way to a draw. Stringer, who trains with the Blackzillians, had a point deducted from him after he caught France with a low blow for the second time.

WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING UNVEILS INAUGURAL CHAMPIONSHIP BELT

On Saturday night, World Series of Fighting crowns its first-ever champion, and today the promotion revealed the prize for which they’ll be competing.

Custom-designed by A.J. LaFons, the World Series of Fighting championship belt features more than 43 carats of genuine ruby, diamond, emerald, sapphire and red garnet and weighs in at a total of 10 pounds, 7 ounces.

The two-tone effect on the plates was accomplished by nickel-plating each layer of the details before gold-plating the highlights by hand.

“We wanted to make sure our championship belt was reflective of our commitment to excellence,” World Series of Fighting President Way Sefo said. “We’ve been working in the background for more than a year on the design of this belt, and we feel like we got it right. On Saturday night, I feel confident that either Josh Burkman or Steve Carl will be proud of the belt they receive as recognition of their accomplishment as our first-ever welterweight champion.”

Burkman and Carl’s title bout headlines Saturday’s “World Series of Fighting 6: Burkman vs. Carl” event, which takes place at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Tickets for the event, which start at just $29, are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone at (800) 745-3000.

The live, two-hour NBCSN telecast of the evening’s main card begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Preliminary bouts stream live on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com, beginning at 6 p.m. ET, and venue doors open at 5 p.m. ET.

A former master model maker for Jostens, LaFons had never before designed a championship belt. However, a self-professed MMA fan, he lobbied World Series of Fighting executives for the opportunity to commission the company’s first title. While he admits it it was even more of an undertaking than he initially imagined, LaFons said the opportunity to unveil the belt to the World Series of Fighting athletes made it all worthwhile.

“These fighters all tell me that the thing they live for is this belt, so I wanted them to all love it,” LaFons said. “Every one of them that got to see it today loves it. They’re all looking forward to winning one, so that made me feel good.”

This is a must see rematch for every MMA fan on the planet. Also, we are bringing in international and national stars. Eduard Folayang and Geje Eustaquio will be on the stacked fight card. Plus, the fierce MMA darling of the Philippines, Jujeath Nagaowa, will make her ONE FC debut in front of thousands of screaming home fans. We are putting together a fight card that will blow away the thousands of passionate Filipino fans in attendance and the millions watching live around the world are set for another evening of world-class MMA action featuring the best in Asia.”

The ONE FC Featherweight World Championship title fight will be a battle between reigning and defending world champion Koji Oishi versus the heavy-handed and agile Filipino, Honorio Banario.

ONE FC Featherweight World Champion Koji Oishi is a veteran of 44 fights and a former Lightweight King of Pancrase. He has only lost two of his last 18 fights and is a seasoned veteran who has been consistently facing the best opposition in the world. At ONE FC: RISE TO POWER, he captured the ONE FC Featherweight World Championship title by knocking out Honorio Banario in front of Banario’s home crowd. Oishi has fought almost 100 rounds in his career and faced over 36 opponents, making him one of the most experienced Featherweights in the world. On 6 December, Oishi will finally get to show his critics that he is the true champion and will look to KO Banario once again.

Honorio Banario is one of the top MMA fighters to ever come out of the Philippines and the first Filipino to ever bring back an MMA world title to the Philippines. He is a member of the legendary Team Lakay where he trains alongside fellow local champions like Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon and under head coach Mark Sangiao. Banario’s background is Wushu, an ancient Chinese martial art whose adherents are recognizable by their sideways stance and diverse range of strikes. He loves to strike from range and always keeps opponents guessing what his next move will be. Banario will stop at nothing to once again proclaim himself as the top Featherweight in Asia and seek redemption in front of the 20,000-strong home crowd who will be there to support him.

Also returning to ONE FC action is Eduard Folayang, Geje Eustaquio and Filipina MMA sensation Jujeath Nagaowa will make her highly-anticipated debut.

Eduard Folayang is a former Asian Games medalist in Wushu, URCC Welterweight Champion and the best Lightweight to come out of the Philippines. He possesses an array of unorthodox striking and has been working hard to complement that with a wrestling game. He has faced and beaten some of the top Lightweights in Asia and will look to chalk another name to that list on 6 December.

Geje Eustaquio is a skilled Flyweight who trains alongside the aforementioned Eduard Folayang and Honorio Banario at Team Lakay in the high altitudes of Baguio City. Extremely quick and agile, he is proficient in every facet of mixed martial arts. With the Flyweight World Championship still up for grabs, Eustaquio is looking to stake his claim on a title shot with an impressive victory.

Jujeath Nagaowa is an accomplished female boxer from the Philippines who is looking to transition into the sport of mixed martial arts. The former WBC Asia Atomweight Champion has faced and defeated the top names in female boxing in Asia and will look to do the same in MMA when she embarks on her ONE FC career. She has lightning quick punches and will be looking to showcase that at ONE FC: MOMENT OF TRUTH.

Fight Network Presents Cage Warriors FC: Fight Night 9 LIVE Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. ET

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, will present a live broadcast of Cage Warriors Fighting Championship: Fight Night 9 from King Hussein Youth City in Amman, Jordan, this Friday, October 25, at 2 p.m. ET.

Fight Network’s live broadcast of Cage Warriors FC: Fight Night 9 will be aired nationwide in Canada, as well as internationally as part of Fight Network’s expansion on ZON in Portugal, D-Smart in Turkey, and ZAP in Angola and Mozambique.

In the main event, former Cage Warriors welterweight champion Gael Grimaud takes on Brazilian standout Bruno Carvalho.

The co-headliner pits former UFC prospect Che Mills against top-ranked Frenchman Fayal Hucin in a middleweight bout.

In other featured bouts, British bantamweight sensation Ronnie Mann battles Marat Pekov, while longtime veteran Jack Mason collides with Vladimir Opanasenko.

Carvalho (15-6) will be aiming for his second successive CWFC win, having overcome Steve Dinsdale – who was a late replacement for the injured Mohsen Bahari – at Cage Warriors 52 in March.

That victory saw the 31-year-old BJJ black belt rebound from a narrow decision loss to current CWFC welterweight title-holder Cathal Pendred last October at Cage Warriors 49 in Cardiff.

A Brazilian currently based in Sweden, Carvalho holds victories over former KSW middleweight champion Vitor Nobrega, Dream veteran Tatsuya Mizuno, former Pride middleweight Jean-Francois Lenogue and The Ultimate Fighter 11 contestant Kyacey Uscola.

Grimaud (17-6) also returns to Cage Warriors action for the first time since last March’s CWFC 52, when he relinquished the welterweight title via a unanimous decision defeat to Cathal Pendred..

The 33-year-old Frenchman was victorious when Cage Warriors last visited Bahrain, submitting Jesse Taylor to retain the belt in the third round of the CWFC Fight Night 6 headliner in May of last year.

Grimaud, who has 13 stoppage wins – 11 by submission – on his record, was crowned CWFC welterweight champion in September 2011 thanks to a second-round TKO triumph against Arni Isaksson at CWFC Fight Night 2 in Jordan.

Mills (15-6-0-2) will be fighting at middleweight for the first time since falling short against CWFC welterweight champion Cathal Pendred at Cage Warriors 55 back in June.

Having later announced his intention to switch to the 185lbs division, Mills was then scheduled to face Valentino Petrescu last weekend at Cage Warriors 59 in Cardiff, but the bout was pulled after both fighters took ill.

A native of Gloucester in England, 30-year-old Mills signed exclusively for Cage Warriors earlier this year, following a four-fight stint with the UFC.

“I can’t wait to get back in the cage and entertain the fans,” Mills said. “My opponent is well-rounded and I expect an explosive match. I’m also looking forward to visiting Bahrain and I thank Cage Warriors for the opportunity.”

Hucin (9-3) will be keen to stake a claim for a shot at the vacant CWFC middleweight title as he goes in search of his fourth Cage Warriors win in five outings.

The 25-year-old missed out on a shot at the belt last year after a unanimous-decision loss to Victor Cheng in the semi-finals of Cage Warriors’ title tournament, which was Hucin’s only defeat in his last eight bouts. He booked his semi-final spot after a first-round KO of recent Bellator ‘Fight Master’ contestant Gareth Joseph.

The Frenchman returned to winning ways by overcoming John Michael Sheil last October, before most recently submitting former KSW champion AntonI Chmielewski at CWFC Fight Night 8 this past May.

The charismatic Parisian said: “I’m in great shape for this fight because I’ve been working hard. I’m looking forward to dancing in the sunshine and putting on a good show.”

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP® & THE CENTER JOIN FORCES FOR HIV AWARENESS

Las Vegas, Nevada – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (“The Center”) have announced a dynamic new partnership, designed to raise awareness of the realities of HIV among young individuals under 30.

In the 1990s, there were major breakthroughs in both the treatment of and education about the HIV pandemic. Because of anti-viral drugs, HIV is no longer the death sentence it once was; and because of the tremendous mainstream media focus on the disease in the 1990s there was an educated population who practiced safe sex. The result was infection rates fell significantly.

Over the last 15-years complacency has set in, however, resulting in a younger generation ill-informed about the dangers and realities of the disease. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated the ignorance of young Americans on the realities of HIV and AIDS is “shocking”, “astonishing” and “just unacceptable”. Last year, half of the 50,000 Americans infected with the disease were under the age of 30.

The UFC and The Center are now picking a fight with that ignorance by launching an awareness campaign called “Protect Yourself At All Times”.

UFC COO Ike Lawrence Epstein said: “As someone who grew up in the 1980s and saw the virus beaten back with education in the 1990s, I was stunned to learn from our friends at The Center that HIV is still having such a dramatic impact on young people. No other sport reaches the under 35 demographic like the UFC does and the UFC felt a duty to try and do something about this situation. It gives me great pride to announce the UFC will be partnering with The Center, LBGTQ+ and other organizations for a project we are calling “Protect Yourself At All Times”. This will be a local, national and ultimately international campaign designed to educate the UFC’s vast core audience of under 35s about the realities of HIV.”

Robert (“Bob”) Elkins, CEO of The Center, said: “HIV stopped being a ‘gay issue’ long ago but, unfortunately, it has now very much become a ‘young issue’. The jarring fact is that young gay men are becoming infected at a much higher rate. The lack of both awareness and accessible information for teenagers and young adults is truly frightening. It’s like the 1990s never happened in terms of education and public awareness. In the UFC, we have the perfect partner to fight this ignorance, and we thank them for joining us in this battle.”

Elkins, who is openly HIV positive after contracting the virus 27 years ago, added: “When I first found I was HIV positive, my friends and family thought it was a death sentence. But I wouldn’t accept that and started anti-retroviral treatment which I’ve continued ever since. Today, my viral load is virtually undetectable, thanks to my doctors and the meds. But through education and medical advances we began to fight back against the disease. Living with HIV is manageable, but we cannot allow advancements to take away our focus on preventing new infections through public awareness and education.”

Protect Yourself At All Times has two key messages:

· Get tested; know your status

· Protect yourself with safe sex practices

UFC Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin will serve as a spokesman for the campaign. He said: “I had 15 fights in the UFC Octagon during my career, and before each and every one of them, I had a HIV test. I’m encouraging everybody to show themselves and their partners the same respect I showed my opponents by getting tested and protecting themselves at all times.”

UFC No.5 ranked women’s bantamweight Liz Carmouche, who is also a spokesperson, added: “There’s a feeling of invincibility that comes with being young, with being fit and the prime of your life. But I learned when I was in the US Marines just like I’ve learned as a UFC fighter, no-one is invincible, and that you have to project yourself at all times.”

The on-going Protect Yourself At All Times campaign will be rolled out during the lead-up to World AIDS Day on December 1 and will include:

· The UFC will fully support The Center’s LGBTQ+ programme, which offers free HIV tests to the wider Las Vegas community

· UFC athletes and personalities visiting centers nationwide who offer free HIV tests and educational initiatives

· The UFC will be creating public service announcements which will be distributed across its powerful media platforms

· The UFC will also be donating promotional inventory to the campaign, beginning with a full-page ad in next month’s UFC 360 magazine, and ask its partners to donate similar space to raise issue awareness.

WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 6 CONFERENCE CALL HIGHLIGHTS

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 21, 2013) – World Series of Fighting hosted a media conference call on Monday with “World Series of Fighting 6: Burkman vs. Carl” headliners Josh Burkman (26-9) and Steve Carl (20-3), as well as main-card competitors Marlon Moraes (11-4-1), Carson Beebe (14-2), Jon Fitch (24-6-1), Marcelo Alfaya (15-4), and preliminary card headliner Miguel Angel Torres (40-6).

“World Series of Fighting 6: Burkman vs. Carl” takes place Saturday, Oct. 26, at BankUnited Center at UM in Coral Gables, FL. The evening’s four-fight main card airs live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. A full lineup of preliminary bouts will also stream live on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT and venue doors open at 5 p.m. ET.

Tickets for the fight card, which start at just $29, are available at all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone at (800) 745-3000.

The following are fighter highlights from the conference call:

RAY SEFO:

“I’m super-excited about the event, but mostly I’m very excited for Josh Burkman and Steve Carl, as this fight will be our first world title. I’m very excited about that. We’ve got some great fighters on the card, and I look forward to an exciting show.”

JOSH BURKMAN:

“My camp went really well. I’m excited for this because I was a part of the very first World Series of Fighting, and I’m excited to be a part of the first title shot. I’m looking forward to the challenge that Steve Carl presents, but I’m more prepared than ever for this fight. I know it’s going to be an entertaining card and a good show.”

(At 8-1 in your past nine fights, what do you credit for your recent success?)

“After the UFC, by taking that year off, I really just changed my lifestyle. I had a back injury, and I was told by three different surgeons that I should get surgery and I shouldn’t fight anymore. I had a herniated disc in my neck. I had four bulging discs in my back. I had arthritis, and I had nerve damage. Taking that year off, I had to change everything I did about my diet. I quit drinking. I quit going out. I started going to bed earlier. I really just changed my whole life.”

(What would a title win mean for you?)

“I think it will be a feeling of accomplishment. Any time that you have something taken away from you and people tell you you shouldn’t do it and you change your life and live a way that you can come back and get healthy, I think winning a championship would complete that comeback. It’s just a great sense of accomplishment, and moving forward, I would be proud to represent this organization.”

STEVE CARL:

“I’m super-excited for this event. I’m not only really excited to fight for the title and to be able to fight Josh Burkman in the main event, but I’m excited for the rest of the card, also. I’m really looking forward to watching some of these matchups. I just can’t wait for this weekend, and the colder it gets up here in Iowa, the more excited I get to leave and go down there to Miami.”

(Do you feel like you’re being at all overlooked coming into this fight?)

“I’m good with the way things are going. I think if people are looking at this thinking Josh Burkman is getting more hype and more credit going into this fight, well he deserves it. Look at the three wins he just put together. Josh Burkman is coming into this fight as a favorite, and I’m completely OK with that. That’s fine with me because at the end of the day, I’m still going to be that cage with him, and I’m still going to be in that fight. No matter what anybody says, he still has to beat me, and I still have to beat him, and that’s the bottom line.”

(What were your initial reactions to receiving the matchup?)

“When they told me about it, I was super-excited. I have wanted to fight Josh Burkman since last year when we fought on World Series of Fighting 1. He was on a roll, and he was just climbing the world rankings. That’s what I want to do. Since then, Josh Burkman has really shot up there, and now he’s considered to be one of the best in the world, and I can’t be more excited to want to compete with him.”

MARLON MORAES:

“I’m ready. I trained harder than ever, and I’m looking forward to it. This is a great opportunity. My opponent is a tough guy. You look at the fights and see Josh Burkman, Steve Carl, Jon Fitch, Marcelo Alfaya, Miguel Torres – all those guys fighting on the same card – for me, it’s a pleasure. I’ve spent hours watching those guys, and now I’m here fighting.”

(You had a few injuries in your last fight. Are you fully recovered?)

“I’m feeling great. My body is all recovered. I got hurt a little bit, but I’m ready 110 percent.”

CARSON BEEBE:

“It’s a huge honor being on the card. I’m fighting a very top-tier opponent. Just to be on the same card as all these guys on here, it’s a bunch of legends on the show, so I just want to say thanks to World Series of Fighting and Ray Sefo for giving me an opportunity to go out there and put on a great show. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got in the cage on Saturday night.”

(How has your preparation been for this fight?)

“This is going to be probably the biggest fight of my career, so I’ve been training that way, and I’m ready to bring it. I think it’s going to be a fight that’s worthy of co-main event status, so I’m excited.”

JON FITCH:

“I’m super-pumped for the fight. The whole card is stacked all the way through. World Series of Fighting is doing an outstanding job with putting on these cards and these shows. NBC Sports Network is a fantastic platform for doing good numbers on the live shows and the replays. The organization is only going to keep growing and keep getting stronger. The guys on the undercard are going to start being main-card guys, and everybody is going to know who they are. I’m excited to be a part of this, and I’m excited to help along with this growth. I can’t wait for this fight. I know Marcelo is going to bring it, and it’s going to be a hell of a fight.”

(With your recent loss, is there more pressure now to win?)

“I always feel that I need to win. I wouldn’t be in this sport if I didn’t feel I needed to win every single fight. I want to go out there and perform well, perform the way I can, and put myself in a position to get even bigger fights in the future.”

MARCELO ALFAYA:

“I’m excited for this fight. I’m training hard. Jon Fitch is a tough guy. Thank you so much to World Series of Fighting for giving me this opportunity. Thank you Jon Fitch for taking this fight. I think it’s going to be one great fight.”

MIGUEL ANGEL TORRES:

“I’m happy to be on the card for World Series of Fighting 6. I’m happy they were able to get me on. I’ve been in this sport 15 years, and I’ve seen a lot of organizations and I’ve fought for a lot of different places, and they’re one of the organizations that are growing. They’re going to get to the top, and I’m happy I can be a part of that process. Preparations have gone very well for this fight. I’m looking to get back in there and get some respect – get back to the top where I was before.”

(Where have you been during this long layoff?)

“I’ve been real busy since the last World Series of Fighting. My lease was up on my gym. I had a gym in Hammond, Ind., and I went back and was doing my taxes, and I saw how crazy my overhead was. So I had to make a change if I wanted to sustain profits in my gym. So I had look for a new location, and I found a spot close to my home. My daughter was starting was school, so I wanted to make sure that I was around for that. And as I was doing the move to the gym, I found out it was riddled with mold crawling all through the installation, so I had to basically do a lot of work to remodel the whole gym. So basically the whole summer I spent training and doing carpentry work and laying down a new floor for the new gym. I made that move in July, and then I started training again in August. I got the call from World Series of Fighting to come back and take a fight, and I want to get back in there and start fighting again. I’ve been out for a while, and I missed it. I just can’t wait to get back in there and show what I can do.”

ONE FC: TOTAL DOMINATION OFFICIAL RESULTS BIBIANO FERNANDES CROWNED UNDISPUTED ONE FC BANTAMWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION BY DEFEATING SOO CHUL KIM

18 October 2013 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC), Asia’s largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization with a 90% market share, captivated the packed crowd in attendance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium for ONE FC: TOTAL DOMINATION. Fans were treated to a night of exhilarating action, culminating in a title unification bout between Bibiano Fernandes and Soo Chul Kim.

CEO of ONE Fighting Championship™ Victor Cui stated, “ONE FC has delivered yet another night of world-class MMA action to a packed out Singapore Indoor Stadium that had the fans on the edge of their seats.”

Bibiano Fernandes was crowned the undisputed ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion when he defeated former World Champion Kim by unanimous decision. Both fighters swung for the fences in several ferocious exchanges. Fernandes took control of the contest with several well-timed takedowns that neutralized the aggressive South Korean. Soo Chul Kim found the most success in the fourth round, stuffing Fernandes’ takedowns and even getting the Brazilian on his back in the middle of the stanza.

Aoki made a successful debut in the Featherweight division by earning a decision victory over Cody Stevens. The opening stanza saw Aoki implement his patented top-heavy grappling arsenal. Aoki continued stifling his opponent in rounds 2 and 3 with dominant ground control. Stevens was unable to solve Aoki’s puzzle and succumbed to a unanimous decision loss.

Eddie Ng extended his winning streak in ONE FC to four with an armbar submission victory over fellow Lightweight contender Peter Davis. After several exchanges on the ground, Ng opportunistically locked the Malaysian’s arm in a submission which led to the tapout. After the contest, he empathically stated the he will never face Shinya Aoki for the ONE FC Lightweight World Championship title although he will love an opportunity if Aoki ever vacates the title to stay in the Featherweight division.

Middleweight veterans Rafael Silva and Tatsuya Mizuno put on a fight that had the Singapore crowd screaming at the top of their lungs. The first round was a back-and forth affair that demonstrated the many complexities of mixed martial arts. Silva landed several strikes that had Mizuno backing off while Mizuno had several submission attempts that Silva managed to get out of. Both fighters came out swinging in the second round and each had their moment of dominance. Silva managed to open a cut on Mizuno while the Japanese had Silva backpedaling with diverse strikes. Mizuno started the third round brilliantly, using his reach to land numerous kicks on his game opponent. The resilient Silva fought resiliently off his back, even attempting several submission attempts of his own. Mizuno relentlessly stayed on the assault, and the strong finish earned him the unanimous decision on all three of the judges’ scorecard.

Sylvain Potard pulled off probably the biggest upset of the night when he knocked out former NCAA Division 1 Wrestler Jake Butler. The Frenchman was the first to attempt a takedown, but Jake Butler imposed his signature wrestling-heavy offense in the first round. Potard quickly gained a superior position on the ground and the heavy-handed striker landed several unanswered strikes to conclude the Light-Heavyweight bout and end Butler’s undefeated record.

The rematch featuring Mitch Chilson and Shannon Wiratchai ended in decisive fashion to put an end to the controversy surrounding the finish of the first bout. With Chilson dazed and on his back from an earlier strike, Wiratchai landed a soccer kick and punch combo which Chilson failed to recover from and effectively concluded the Featherweight contest.

Two Flyweights who are experts in Asian martial arts clashed in the ONE FC when Kun Khmer Champion Khim Dima took on Asian Games Wushu gold medalist Rene Catalan in Flyweight action. Both Flyweights came out in lightning quick strikes which the other narrowly managed to get out of the way to start the contest. The rest of the first round was close with Catalan coming close to finishing the bout with an armbar. The tide turned on the second round when Dima hit several well-timed strikes while Catalan attempted a takedown, dropping Catalan and prompting the referee to stop the fight.

The heavily-anticipated contest between Malaysia’s first female mixed martial artist, Ann Osman, and Singapore’s top female prospect, Sherilyn Lim was a back-and-forth affair that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Osman took Lim down on several occasions, but Lim had the better offense, scoring heavily with ground-and-pound. The bout went to the judges’ scorecards and they awarded the victory to Sherilyn Lim by a razor-thin split decision.

The first round between Juan Wen Jie and Alex Lim was contested primarily on the feet, with Juan Wen Jie peppering his opponent with knees and punches. He eventually finished his opponent in the early seconds of round two with a well-timed left hook.

Stephen Langdown kicked off the night by defeating Malaysia’s Marc Marcellinus in the first round. The bout was predominantly a standup affair. The finish came when Langdown landed a flurry of knees and strikes that Marcellinus had no answer for.

Fight Network Presents ONE FC: Total Domination LIVE this Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 a.m. ET

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, presents a live broadcast of ONE FC: Total Domination this Friday, October 18, at 7 a.m. ET from Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Fight Network’s live broadcast of ONE FC: Total Domination will be aired nationwide in Canada, as well as internationally as part of Fight Network’s expansion on ZON in Portugal, D-Smart in Turkey, and ZAP in Angola and Mozambique.

Headlining the fight card is the most highly-anticipated fight in ONE FC history – the unification bout for the ONE FC bantamweight world championship as top pound-for-pound king Bibiano Fernandes faces the heavy-handed and lightning quick South Korean, Soo Chul Kim.

“We are coming back to Singapore to put on one of the greatest fight cards in Asian MMA history. We will finally settle the question of who deserves to be called the top bantamweight fighter on the planet. Plus, the fierce MMA darling of Singapore, Sherilyn Lim, will make her ONE FC debut in front of thousands of screaming home fans. We always step it up a notch in Singapore and 18 October will be no different. We are putting together a fight card that will blow away the millions of passionate fight fans all around the world. Thousands of fans in attendance and the millions watching live around the world are set for another evening of world-class MMA action featuring the best in Asia,” said Victor Cui, CEO of ONE Fighting Championship.

Bibiano Fernandes is ranked as one of the best bantamweight fighters in the world. He is the former DREAM featherweight champion, DREAM featherweight grand prix winner and current interim ONE FC bantamweight champion. Fernandes has not lost a fight in over two years and he made his ONE FC debut in Manila last August when he defeated CFC bantamweight champion Gustavo Falciroli. Fernandes then followed that up with a first round submission win over DEEP bantamweight champion Yoshiro Maeda. In May 2013, Fernandes captured the interim title, which was up for grabs due to Soo Chul Kim being injured, by winning a unanimous decision over Koetsu Okazaki. He will be looking to cement his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter currently in Asia by taking home the unified ONE FC bantamweight world championship belt.

Reigning ONE FC bantamweight champion Soo Chul Kim is only 21 years of age but he is already a veteran of 11 MMA fights. He brings an unusual combination of both youth and experience into the ONE FC cage. The Korean has consistently tested himself against the best fighters in the division and has already competed in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. In his last ONE FC outing, Kim defeated Leandro Issa by TKO en route to winning the first ever ONE FC bantamweight belt. Kim feels that the Bantamweight title is rightfully his and will look to cause a major upset by defeating Fernandes to prove that he is the undisputed champion.

In the co-main event, Japanese MMA superstar Shinya Aoki will make his featherweight debut in a non-title contest against American Cody Stevens. In other action, Eddie Ng from Hong Kong clashes with the face of MMA in Malaysia, Peter Davis, while Tatsuya Mizuno and Rafael Silva will meet in a showdown of middleweight veterans.

Plus, Mitch Chilson and Shannon Wiratchai will face each other again a year after the controversial end to their first bout. Also added to the card is a flyweight contest between Wushu champion Rene Catalan from the Philippines and Cambodian kickboxer Khim Dima.

Shinya Aoki is one of the most decorated mixed martial artists in the world. A former DREAM lightweight champion, he earned his most prestigious title yet with a quick submission victory over the reigning ONE FC lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku earlier this year. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under the legendary Yuki Nakai, and boasts 22 wins via submission. Aoki now trains out of Evolve MMA and this bout will be his first since permanently relocating to Singapore. This will also be the first time Aoki competes at featherweight and his performance at this weight class may change the course of MMA history as we know it.

Aoki empathically stated, “I am dropping down to featherweight for the first time in my career in this fight. I feel stronger and faster at this weight and I have my sights set on competing against all the top featherweights and Lightweights that ONE FC puts in front of me. The weight cut will not be a problem for me and I am definitely ready for this challenge!”

Cody Stevens will look to earn the biggest win of his career when he faces Shinya Aoki. Originally from Ohio in the United States of America, Stevens now trains and fights out of Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand. He possesses a relentless grappling-heavy approach designed to break down the will of his opponent. His is confident that his strong wrestling base is more than a match for Aoki’s grappling and he cannot wait to muscle his way into a decisive victory over one of the sport’s most iconic superstars. Out of his 10 victories thus far, six of them have come via submission.

Hong Kong’s Eddie Ng will be making his fourth appearance in the ONE FC cage. He has finished all three of his opponents in ONE FC and will be looking to protect his unblemished ONE FC record when he meets Peter Davis. He combines explosive punching power with an underrated submission arsenal that emerged when he submitted Arnaud Lepont in his last ONE FC bout.

“I am excited to represent Hong Kong and step back into the ONE FC cage to face Peter Davis. He is a tough opponent with a good all round skill set. He has the ability to finish fights standing up and submit people on the ground. I look forward to the challenge on 18 October and I expect nothing less than an all-out war!” Ng proclaimed.

Peter Davis is a Wuji Chuan exponent and the face of mixed martial arts in Malaysia. Along with being a mixed martial arts veteran, he is also a prominent celebrity in showbiz with a long list of modeling and acting roles to his name. Davis has won five of his last six fights in impressive fashion and he will be looking to use his lanky frame and significant reach advantage to propel him to victory against Hong Kong’s Ng.

Davis told the media, “In the upcoming ONE FC fight, I’m going to be pulling out more tricks than “The Magician” can handle and put an end to his winning streak. He’s won fights against a couple of my friends and it’s time for a little revenge.”

Tatsuya Mizuno is a Japanese veteran who has fought all over the world. He holds notable victories over Trevor Prangley, Melvin Manhoef and Ilir Latifi. A 3rd degree Judo black belt, he has transitioned his skills to mixed martial arts by adding solid striking and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to his Judo trips and throws. He will look to utilize that against Rafael Silva and get his first win inside the ONE FC cage.

Rafael Silva is a Portuguese mixed martial arts veteran with more than 50 fights on his record. He has amassed an impressive seven-fight winning streak competing primarily in Europe. Having conquered the best in Europe, he now looks towards testing himself against the elite in Asia. With 21 of his 39 wins coming via submission, he will be looking to add another submission victory to his record against the gritty Mizuno.

Mitch Chilson is a featherweight fighting out of the famed Evolve MMA in Singapore. Originally from Seattle in the United States, he has a background in professional Muay Thai and wrestling. In his last bout, he demonstrated his wrestling skills by dominating a national Indonesian wrestler. Well-rounded and determined, Chilson will be looking to use all the skills in his arsenal to his advantage against the explosive Shannon Wiratchai as they meet for the second time.

Shannon Wiratchai is the youngest mixed martial artist in ONE FC’s roster to hail from Thailand. Unlike most of his countrymen who are proficient in Muay Thai, Wiratchai is trained in the ancient Chinese martial art of Baguazhang as well as in Judo. Wiratchai possesses explosive speed and he will be looking to use it to devastating effect to get the win he feels he rightly deserves against Chilson.

Rene Catalan is a former SEA Games and Asian Games gold medalist in Wushu. He possesses knockout power in both hands and will be looking to use that to stop Cambodian kickboxer Dima. In his ONE FC debut, he was performing admirably against BJJ black belt Alex Silva before getting caught in a submission. Catalan will enter this bout looking to finally translate his impressive resume into a ONE FC victory on his record.

Khim Dima will be the second Cambodian mixed martial artist to enter the ONE FC cage. A Khmer boxing veteran, who is making the transition in mixed martial arts, he will be looking to notch up the first win for the kingdom using his signature sharp elbows and crushing knees. This will be a clash of two top flyweight strikers and a highlight reel knockout has been predicted by experts.

World Series of Fighting signs top-ranked middleweight Yushin Okami

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 14, 2013) – World Series of Fighting officials are happy to announce the addition of perennial top-ranked middleweight Yushin Okami (29-8) to the company’s roster.

The 32-year-old “Thunder” Okami recently signed a multi-fight deal with the Las Vegas-based World Series of Fighting promotion, and he’s expected to make his first appearance for the company in early 2014.

“We’re extremely excited to announced that Yushin Okami as the newest member of our middleweight division,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “MMA fans around the world know Yushin has long been among the best 185-pound fighters in the sport, and we’re happy to have him as a member of the World Series of Fighting family.”

A judo black belt, Okami has been competing professionally since 2002. After building an impressive 16-3 record competing largely in his native Japan, Okami in 2006 debuted for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He would go on to fight 18 times for the UFC, including an August 2011 bid for the promotion’s middleweight title.

Okami’s career record includes wins over MMA notables Alan Belcher, Dean Lister, Hector Lombard, Nate Marquardt, Mark Munoz, Anderson Silva, Mike Swick and Evan Tanner, among others.

While Okami’s debut date and opponent have not yet been officially determined, he could prove an immediate title contender in World Series of Fighting’s 185-pound division. The company will crown its first middleweight champion in early 2014, as the winner of World Series of Fighting 7’s Elvis Mutapcic vs. Jesse Taylor bout moves on to meet David Branch in the finals of the company’s four-man middleweight tournament.

INVICTA FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURNS DECEMBER 7!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 11, 2013) – Women’s world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion Invicta Fighting Championships will return to Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City with a stacked, nine-bout event featuring three world title fights, including a main event showdown between reigning flyweight champion Barb Honchak (8-2) of Bettendorf, Iowa and three-time “Fight of the Night” winner Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (6-3-1) of Pleasanton, Calif.

Tickets priced from $35, for the highly-anticipated return of Invicta FC women’s MMA action go on sale at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 18, at TicketFly.com.

“We are excited about returning to the big stage in full force with another loaded card featuring a fantastic mix of world championship bouts and other world-class MMA action that will see a collection of the best women fighters on the planet face off against each other,” said Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp.

In the co-main event, Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza (9-2) of Redondo Beach, Calif. will put her strawweight (115 pounds) championship on the line against surging, undefeated superstar Claudia Gadelha (11-0) of Mossoro, Rio Grande Do Norte Brazil.

In the first-ever Invicta FC bantamweight (135 pounds) world championship bout, hard-hitting KO artist Lauren Murphy (7-0) of Anchorage, Alaska will battle fellow unbeaten star Miriam Nakamoto (2-0, 1 NC) of Dublin, Calif.

The 34-year-old Honchak, a protégé of former world champion Pat Miletich, dominated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vanessa Porto to become the first Invicta FC 125 pound champion in history on July 13. The victory was Honchak’s seventh straight.

Smith, a 31-year-old striking aficionado, has become a memorable face by engaging in all-out slugfests with her opponents on the five Invicta FC cards that she has appeared on. On July 13, Smith, in her firsts start at flyweight after a healthy run at bantamweight, outgunned Jennifer Maia to earn a unanimous decision after three rounds of action.

The 26-year-old Esparza, a student of famed trainer Colin Oyama, will step in the cage for the first time since sustaining a knee injury in training earlier this year. In her last effort at Invicta FC 4 on January 5, she notched her fourth consecutive win, a unanimous decision over “Rowdy” Bec Hyatt.

Gadelha has been unstoppable with her submission game and, lately, her striking, since turning pro in 2008. The 24-year-old will make her second start under the Invicta FC banner after scoring a third round (3:58) TKO on JEWELS champion Ayaka Hamasaki with a barrage of punches on July 13.

Murphy has been perfect, thus far, in the Invicta FC cage, earning back-to-back unanimous decision victories over Kaitlin Young and Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio on April 5 and July 13, respectively. Prior to her Invicta FC debut, the 30-year-old had scored TKO finishes on all five her career opponents.

The 37-year-old Nakamoto, a seasoned Muay Thai champion extended her unblemished record at Invicta FC 6, scoring a thunderous first round (2:08) TKO on Duda Yankovich with a knee strike and series of punches. The finish earned Nakamoto “KO of the Night” honors.

In other main card action, Felice “Lil’ Bulldog” Herrig (9-4) of Buffalo Grove, Illin. will make her highly-anticipated Invicta FC debut and put a four-fight win streak on the line in a strawweight matchup opposite unbeaten, fast-rising star Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres (3-0) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Another matchup of unbeaten rising stars will pit Joanne Calderwood (7-0) of Glasgow, Scotland against Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpaa (8-0-1) of Seinajoki, Southern Ostrobothnia Finland at strawweight.

Heavy-handed powerhouse Julia “The Jewel” Budd (5-2) of Port Moody, British Columbia Canada will put a three-fight win streak on the line against submission ace Charmaine “Not So Sweet” Tweet (4-3) Regina, Saskatchewan Canada in a featherweight (145 pounds) scrap.

Porto (15-6) of Sao Paulo, Brazil will look to rebound from a defeat the hands of Honchak at the last Invicta FC event in July when she collides with fellow superstar Zoila Frausto Gurgel (12-3) of Cincinnati, Ohio at flyweight. Porto has claimed 10 of her 15 professional career victories by way of submission while Gurgel has defeated a host of top rivals, including Jessica Aguilar and Megumi Fujii during her outstanding four plus year professional career.

Kelly Kobold (18-3) of Minneapolis, Minn. will make her long-awaited Invicta FC debut in a bantamweight tilt with fellow ferocious finisher Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger (11-6) of Odessa, Mo.

In another meeting between two Invicta FC newcomers, hard-punching Munah “The Perfect Storm” Holland (5-2) of Elmwood Park, N.J. will face streaking Nina “The Strina” Ansaroff (5-4) of Fort Lauderdale at flyweight.

UFC® CELEBRATES 20th ANNIVERSARY WITH UFC® 167 LIVE IN U.S. CINEMAS AS GEORGES ST-PIERRE DEFENDS WELTERWEIGHT TITLE

Centennial, Colo. – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) returns to movie theaters nationwide on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. PT as NCM Fathom Events and UFC bring UFC® 167: ST-PIERRE vs. HENDRICKS to the big screen. Fight fans will get a front-row view of all the pulse-pounding action when longest-reigning champion in the UFC, welterweight king Georges St-Pierre (also known as “GSP”), returns to the Octagon® to face No. 1 contender Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks. GSP will take on his most dangerous challenger to date in the sledge-hammer handed Hendricks. Broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, audiences will witness all the excitement as the undisputed champion in the UFC welterweight division is determined during the UFC’s 20th anniversary event.

Tickets for UFC® 167: ST-PIERRE vs. HENDRICKS are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. The event will be presented in more than 350 select movie theaters around the country through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

“UFC fans will want to experience GSP and Hendricks go head to head in UFC 167 on the big screen,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of NCM Fathom Events. “Audiences will feel like they have a ringside seat with every move these fighters make. The only way to get closer to the action would be to get in the Octagon.”

Montreal’s finest, Georges St-Pierre (24-2), the UFC welterweight champion since April 2008, has posted an impressive 11-fight win streak during his reign atop the 170-pound division. The dynamic GSP holds black belts in both Kyokushin karate and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The two-time champion’s historic and unrivaled reign includes wins over UFC’s toughest including Matt Hughes, B.J. Penn and Jake Shields.

The hard-hitting Johny Hendricks (15-1), fighting out of Dallas, Texas, is the top-ranked challenger in the 170-pound division. He earned his shot at GSP by putting together a six-fight unbeaten streak in the UFC. A two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion with one punch knockout power, “Bigg Rigg” is set on derailing St-Pierre’s march to the Hall of Fame. He is known for his extensive wrestling background and powerful punches, particularly from the left hand, which has earned him three Knockout of the Night bonuses and one Fight of the Night award.

The event features an exciting co-main light heavyweight bout between former UFC champion Rashad Evans and former two-division title challenger Chael Sonnen.

The old school will also meet the new breed at UFC 167, as the resurgent “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler meets Canada’s Rory MacDonald. After returning to the UFC in 2013 following a more than eight year absence, Lawler has looked better than ever in knocking out Josh Koscheck and Bobby Voelker. The 24-year-old MacDonald is currently sporting a five-fight winning streak that includes wins over BJ Penn and Jake Ellenberger, but he has yet to face someone with the power of Iowa’s Lawler, making this a must-see welterweight battle.
