CAGE FURY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURNS ON COMCAST TCN AND CSN SPORTSNET NOVEMBER 10 AND 11 WITH “CFFC XVII”

November 10, 2012, This weekend GFL and Comcast continue their weekly combat sports series with a juggernaut of East Coast MMA, as CFFC presents CFFC XVII featuring a full lineup of veteran and up and coming MMA fighters highlighted by a main event featuring Bellator veteran Aung “The Burmese Python” La N Sang (13-8) making his CFFC debut to battle Jason Louck (16-9). Sang possesses KO power in both hands and feet, but is more than a one-trick pony as he has defeated multiple opponents via submission as well. Louck likes to grind down his opponents and outwork them over the course of a full fight, by beating them to the punch and landing takedown after takedown. This fight will come down to Sang’s ability to stuff the takedown and make Louck pay with his fists.

Air times will be at 10 PM EST Saturday evening in all TCN coverage areas, and will replay on Thursday, 11/15 at 8 pm. CSN Philly will air the event on Sunday, 11/11 at 4pm and replay on Tuesday, 11/13 at 7 PM. Comcast subscribers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Delaware, New Jersey and even some parts of New York will have access to CFFC XVII this weekend.

GLORY COMBINES DREAM 18 AND HEAVYWEIGHT GRAND SLAM INTO HISTORIC NIGHT OF MMA AND KICKBOXING ACTION ON NEW YEAR’S EVE IN TOKYO

TOKYO, Japan (Nov 9, 2011) – Following Glory Sports International’s (GSI) recent announcement that it would be producing the annual DREAM MMA event at Saitama Super Arena on New Year’s Eve, the company has announced today that it will merge its GLORY 4 Tokyo Heavyweight Grand Slam championship kickboxing event with DREAM 18 to create one mega-night of world-class professional martial arts fighting on Dec 31, 2012.

The GLORY 4 Tokyo Heavyweight Grand Slam event was originally scheduled to take place on Dec 2 at Makuhari Messe. After a thorough exploration process, however, GSI concluded that it would be possible to combine the two shows, creating the largest possible impact for re-launching the Japanese martial arts fight scene with an event of unprecedented magnitude.

“As a company, we want to create the most spectacular martial arts show Japan has ever seen. After taking over DREAM 18, it just made natural sense to look at the opportunity to revive the traditional New Year’s Eve date and create a mega-show,” Pierre Andurand, Chairman of GSI, commented.

“We looked at the pros and cons and it was clear that a combined show is the way to go. We are extremely proud and excited to deliver this mega-show to the Japanese fans and to the world at large.”

Marcus Luer, Managing Director of GSI, remarked, “We are confident that the fans will see our intentions to create the best possible show ever and, once they see the details of the New Year’s Eve show, they will be blown away by the caliber of fighters and fights we have lined up that night.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to the fans who have bought tickets for Dec 2, but we are certain they will be happy with what we will create on Dec 31. We will provide fans who have bought tickets for GLORY 4 Tokyo with a full refund, which can be easily obtained at the outlets where they bought the tickets. At the same time, those same outlets will also sell the new tickets for the Dec 31 show.”

The event – ‘GSI presents DREAM 18 and GLORY 4 Tokyo – New Year’s Eve Special’ – will commence at 4 p.m. Tokyo time on Dec. 31 and roll through to a midnight grand finale. DREAM 18 will see an amazing line up of top Japanese and international MMA superstars. Further details of the cards will be released next week.

GLORY 4 Tokyo will feature the best heavyweight kickboxers in the world battling it out in a16-man, single-elimination tournament. The winner of the one-night tournament will be crowned the GLORY Heavyweight Grand Slam Champion and receive a grand prize of US $400,000 – the biggest prize in the sport.

Among the superstar fighters that have accepted a place in the invitation-only line-up are Semmy Schilt, Daniel Ghita, Remy Bonjasky, Gokhan Saki, Peter Aerts and Errol Zimmerman. Sixteen world class fighters will enter, but only one can emerge victorious in what is the toughest tournament the fighting world has ever seen.

Broadcast details of the event at Saitama Super Arena will be announced shortly.

FANS VOTE ROBIN VAN ROOSMALEN VS. SANNY DAHLBECK ‘FIGHT OF THE NIGHT’ AT GLORY 3 ROME

Rome, Italy (Nov. 8, 2012) – The action-packed, GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ lightweight (70 kilograms/154 pounds) tournament semifinal round matchup between 21-year-old rising star Sanny Dahlbeck (25-5, 15 KO’s) of Sweden and eventual tournament runner-up Robin van Roosmalen (37-14-3, 12 KO’s) of Netherlands was voted ‘Fight of the Night’ by a landslide margin, by fans who tuned into the star-studded championship kickboxing event that awarded its winner, Giorgio Petrosyan (74-1-2 (1 NC), 34 KO’s) of Italy, a grand prize of $300,000 at the famed PalaLottomatica arena on Saturday, Nov. 3, live on GloryWorldSeries.com.

The poll results, determined by the number of re-tweets fans gave each tournament matchup after the event unfolded, have earned Dahlbeck and van Roosmalen a Fight of the Night bonus of $10,000 from GLORY.

The tournament quarterfinal round contest between Dahlbeck and Japanese standout Yoshihiro Sato (49-19, 20 KO’s) in which Dahlbeck emerged victorious via second round TKO, finished as runner-up in the Fight of the Night poll.

“One of GLORY’s goals is to give fans a voice within our league and the sport of kickboxing and, thus, we felt the Fight of the Night poll would be a great avenue to support this mission by allowing fans to award the two fighters whom they felt turned in the best performance during Saturday’s tournament,” said GLORY Managing Director Marcus Luer. “The fans’ enthusiastic participation in the Fight of the Night poll demonstrates just how passionate they are about our great sport and their appreciation deserves to be heard.”

Van Roosmalen scored an inside knockdown on Dahlbeck in each of the first two rounds after Dahlbeck had kept his shorter, stockier opponent at bay for the majority of each frame. In the third round, van Roosmalen sealed the deal, landing a crushing body punch that put Dahlbeck on the canvas and rendered him unable to recover.

In the championship round showdown of the tournament, van Roosmalen gave up a judges’ decision to Petrosyan, who re-affirmed his status as the world’s No. 1 ranked superstar in the weight division, after three rounds of battle. The championship round bout finished in fifth place in the Fight of the Night poll.

JAPANESE GRAND PRIX ISSUES STATEMENT TO VICTIMS OF SANDY

Japanese Grand Prix Freestyle Fighting Tournament Committee President Sadahura Tanikawa issued a statement earlier today in regards to the recent devastation caused by super storm Sandy, as well as information about the upcoming tournament.

“First, we offer our sincerest condolences to those deeply affected by the devastating hurricane that struck the Eastern coastline of the United States last week” said Tanikawa. “It takes a storm of such magnitude to realize the things that are truly important in life. One of our fighters who is competing in this storm was heavily impacted by the storm, and we send our best wishes to him and his family.”

The one-of-a-kind tournament has been delayed several times over the last few months due to various reasons, and the committee is confident that the commencement date is within their sights.

“Unlike every other fighting tournament that is out there, which are based solely on making profits, we pride ourselves on putting on the most unique tournament available to the top fighters in the world, and for that reason we will not rush into beginning just to appease the public,” said Tanikawa.

The annual Japanese Grand Prix freestyle fighting tournament contains the top fighters in their discipline across the world. Competing this year are Japan’s acclaimed sumo champion Harumafuji, America’s Bare Knuckle Boxing Champion Gunn and Argentina’s Muay Thai Bosch, amongst several other top combatants.

“This is not an average MMA or boxing match; this is one of the most revered freestyle fighting tournaments in the world, and we will go above and beyond to ensure the success of it. We owe it to the fighters who have qualified, and of course to the fans around the world.”

This unique tournament is one of a kind, as it encompasses all of the diversified martial arts and boxing disciplines across the world, and brings the most elite fighters in each discipline together to compete in a winner take all, single elimination tournament with the grand prize being the purse of $1 million and eligibility to fight in any tournament worldwide.

Already sold out, fans around the world are anxious to see this competition get underway. More information as to when the firm date of the commencement of the tournament will be released as soon as word is given from the committee.

ANDREI ARLOVSKI TOPPLES DEVIN COLE IN INAUGURAL WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING MAIN EVENT

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (Nov. 3, 2012) – Re-born former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski (18-9) of Minsk, Belarus scored a crushing first round (2:37) TKO on Devin Cole (20-10) of Medford, Ore. in the main event of the 10-bout inaugural World Series of Fighting Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Saturday, Nov. 3, live on NBC Sports Network.

In the light heavyweight (205 pounds) co-main event, superstar Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (15-3) of Boca Raton, Fla. put D.J. Linderman (14-4) of Yreka, Calif. flat on the canvas with a hard right hand, earning his fourth consecutive victory by way of first round KO (3:58).

The four-bout telecast will re-air on NBC Sports Network tomorrow/Sunday, Nov. 4 at 11 p.m. EST/8 p.m. PST.

Arlovski was light on his feet as he and Cole circled around one another in the opening seconds of the bout. As Cole moved forward, Arlovski cracked him with an overhand right that connected on top of Cole’s head and sent Cole to the canvas.

Arlovski pounced on his downed opponent and scored several hammer fists before Cole rolled onto his side and the referee stopped the bout.

Shortly after the opening bell rang for the co-main event, Johnson landed an accidental groin kick that put Linderman on the mat in pain. After Linderman stood up and the bout resumed, Johnson went on the attack, but suddenly turned to referee Herb Dean, claiming that he had been poked in the eye.

Unaware of an eye poke, Dean instructed the fighters to resume their efforts and, shortly after they did, Linderman came forward, only to feel the impact of a straight right hand from Johnson that put Linderman on the canvas face-first and prompted Dean to call an end to the fight.

Two-time national Muay Thai champion and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Marlon Moraes (9-4) of Jupiter, Fla. via Nova Friburgo, Brazil pulled off an upset over former world champion and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Miguel Torres (40-6) of East Chicago, Ind.

Moraes consistently beat Torres to the punch while Torres appeared to be gun shy throughout three rounds of action. Moraes scored power shots to the head and landed enough leg kicks to convince two of three judges to give him the nod.

The highly-anticipated MMA debut of kickboxing superstar Tyrone Spong (1-0) of Boca Raton, Fla. via Amsterdam, Netherlands lived up to its hype as the 27-year-old came out of the gates launching an all-out assault against Travis Bartlett (7-3) of Bangor, Maine in a light heavyweight matchup. Spong scored a finishing straight right hand that put Bartlett down and out on the floor.

Trio Of Finishes On Electrifying Undercard Sets Stage For GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ Main Event Tonight

Rome, Italy – (Nov. 3, 2012) – The highly-anticipated GLORY 3 Rome ‘Final 8’ championship kickboxing event at the historic Pala Lottomatica got underway with two MMA fights and two kickboxing fights, featuring local Italian talent. Three of the four bouts ended with finishes.

There were three finishes out of the four fights and all eight combatants had clearly set out to go to war. The result was an enormously entertaining undercard that lit the crowd up and heightened their anticipation for the main card, which features the FINAL 8 tournament of the GLORY Lightweight Grand Prix which commenced in Stockholm, Sweden earlier this year.

“Italy is the home of the gladiators and we hoped for epic battles from these four matches, but they exceeded even our wildest expectations. There were some standout performances from several fighters and you will certainly see some of these names on future GLORY cards,” commented GLORY Managing Director Marcus Luer after the conclusion of the undercard.

Cesario Di Domenico vs. David Dolce – Lightweight (70 kilograms/155lbs) – Glory Kickboxing Rules

Cesario Di Domenico headlined the preliminary portion of the GLORY 3 card in a three-round MMA fight with fellow Italian fighter David Dolce at lightweight (70 kilograms / 155lbs). Di Domenico is based in Holland and is part of the Golden glory team. Di Domenico is a Golden Glory fighter and trains under Martijn De Jong, who counted Alistair Overeem and Siyar Bahadurzada among his protégés before their move to America.

A former Shooto fighter, De Jong has solid grappling credentials and he has obviously passed these on to Di Domenico. After a furious exchange of punches at the start, Di Domenico backed off to taunt his opponent with his hands down, moving his head around and daring him to try and hit him. When Dolce came in to do so, Di Cesario hit a nice ankle pick and then moved to a back-take as Dolce tried to get up from the floor.

A body-triangle quickly followed, plus an arm around the neck. Dolce was having the breath squeezed out of him by body and neck and it proved impossible for him to endure any longer. He tapped at 1:08 of the first round to give Di Cesario a win by rear-naked choke and take his record to 3-2 overall.

Ricardo Lecca vs. Giuseppe D’Amuri – Catchweight – (72.5kg) – Glory Kickboxing Rules

What Lecca lacks in finessee he makes up for in power. His right hand is extremely dangerous and he let D’Amuri feel it early, catching a front kick and firing back with an overhand right to the jaw. The Team Invictus fighter’s gameplan seemed to center around catching or blocking D’Amuri’s kick then unleashing this counter with the big right hand. And while Lecca’s defense was a little loose (he was taking some shots himself in the brawl) his chin is also very strong and he took D’Amuri’s shots without hesitating.

When the end came, it was devastating. One massive overhand staggered D’Amuri for a seven-count. When the action restarted, a second overhand had him wobbling into the referee’s arms and taking an eight-count. D’Amuri soldiered on and tried keeping a really tight double-arm cover on the third restart but Lecca just smashed through it like it wasn’t there.

D’Amri fell forward and only the ropes saved him from landing flat on his face. Instead he hung there while Lecca set about him and the referee had to physically dive in to end the fight and declare Lecca the winner by KO. Lecca roared in triumph and the arena, obviously full of his fans, roared back at him.

Manuele Raini vs. Julian Imeri – Lightweight (70 kilograms/155lbs) – Glory Kickboxing Rules

Shorter and lighter, Imeri was nonetheless the aggressor in the first round, getting the action underway with heavy combinations from the start. A southpaw, he was scoring well with a lead right hook/left body-hook combination and forcing Raini to keep a tight cover. Raini scored some good counters as the round went on though, including several heavy right legs to Imeri’s midriff.

Raini came out aggressive in round two and started using his long legs to cause problems for Imeri, hacking away at his legs every time the shorter man threw his hands. But Imeri’s lead hook was still causing him problems and his superior boxing in general was becoming too much for Raini to handle. A ferocious flurry near the end of the second nearly had Raini down and he was under seriously heavy pressure as the bell went.

Imeri went into all-out attack mode for the final frame, trying to put Raini away for a spectacular finish. What followed was a round of thrilling action as the game Raini gave everything he had. He knew he had to get a finish, being two rounds down on the scorecard, and the battle was furious. Imeri’s head movement, angles and footwork were too much for Raini though and apart from some brief rallies and the odd hard kick, Imeri was clearly in control.

Ivan Musardo vs. Giorgio Belsanti – Lightweight (70 kilograms/155lbs) – MMA Rules

In the opening bout of the event, Golden Glory fighter Musardo scored early with an early body lock takedown before taking a solid top position inside Be and GnP. Belsanti close to an armbar but had to give it up because of getting hit and thus allowed the guard pass.

Musardo took a heavy side mount and then progressed to taking Belsanti’s back when the Italian tried to roll out to his knees. Musardo put his hooks in, flattened Belsanti out and sank on an RNC to force the tap at the 3:00 mark.

MANLEY SCORES FIRST SUBMISSION WIN OF THE SERIES

Las Vegas, Nevada – With UFC® president Dana White exclaiming “these guys came out banging”, viewers of The Ultimate Fighter® Fridays were treated to the most exciting fight of the season thus far on Friday night. Jon Manley overcame some rocky moments to score the season’s first submission, sinking in a deep guillotine choke on James Chaney at 3:25 of a thrilling one round brawl.

Episode eight of the reality series – ‘Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em’ – aired on FX and saw UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson’s team score their third consecutive victory. Team Nelson now leads 4-3 heading into the last preliminary fight of the series next week.

Manley, 26, a mixed martial artist with a 7-1 professional record, lives and breathes MMA. An identical twin who considers himself a hippy, he recently opened a mixed martial arts school in Northhampton, Mass. and was thrilled to have represented his gym-mates on such a large stage – and to have nabbed a $5000 finish bonus.

“The fight with “Snake” was pretty intense,” he said. “It was the biggest fight of my life and I felt unbelievably awesome after the win. I was stoked to get the only submission of the season so far. I always wanted to be on TUF – and to finish my first fight in the house in the first round was sick. I am a jiu-jitsu fighter and I was really happy to represent my school and coaches.”

As we saw, leading into the series, Chaney, 25, is a Clamath Falls, Oregon meat factory worker with a passion: http://youtu.be/fls4cVTmw3Q.

“I really, really wanted that win and I still believe in my heart I should’ve won the whole show. What would I have done differently? I would’ve avoided being taken down, I would’ve really pursued the finish on the feet and stayed away from him being on top because that was his best chance of winning. I was extremely disappointed, but my coaches and teammates were supportive and thought I fought well.”

Tickets for The Ultimate Fighter® Finale on Dec. 15 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas are on sale and priced at $304, $254, $179, $154, $104 and $79. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit the Hard Rock Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, www.ticketmaster.com, www.thejointlasvegas.com or charge-by-phone at 800.745.3000.

UFC® 154 STARS REVEAL THEIR FAVORITE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

Las Vegas, Nevada – Just weeks before they enter the Octagon® at Bell Centre in Montreal, the stars of UFC® 154: ST-PIERRE vs. CONDIT took a break from training to discuss their favorite Halloween costumes. As they gear up for the highly anticipated Pay-Per-View card on Saturday, Nov. 17, read what some of the sport’s top stars had to say.

UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre:

“I was usually disguised as a ninja for Halloween because I have been a martial arts fan ever since I was a young age. My favorite part of Halloween is the candy, because I love candy.”

UFC interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit:

“Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. Ever since I was a kid, I loved to get dressed up in different stuff. I used to celebrate Halloween for three or four days, go to parties and try to string it out as long as I could.

“My favorite costume is tough because there have been so many crazy ones. I have been the devil and I liked being a hacked-up zombie with fake blood.”

Mark Hominick:

“I’m definitely looking forward to Halloween this year with my daughter being able to understand more. I’m excited to go around trick or treating with her. She’s wearing a cow costume and she likes to run around the house in her costume saying ‘MOO.’

“I was always a ninja, boxer or something to do with combat sports for Halloween, so I think it pre-planned what I was going to be one day.”

Martin Kampmann:

“Coming from Denmark, I’m pretty new to Halloween so I’ve only dressed up a few times. But I think I’d have to say that my full-sized Scooby Doo costume was my overall favorite.”

Johny Hendricks:

“My favorite costume has to be the one I’ve got planned for this year. I’m going all camouflage for my version of Duck Dynasty. With a beard like mine, it can’t go wrong.”

Tom Lawlor:

“My favorite costume that I’ve worn for a fight in the UFC is the one that I’ve worn during my wins; that of a capable mixed martial arts fighter. I’m joking of course. My favorite is probably my 80’s workout themed ‘Let’s Get Physical’ entrance, not based entirely on my costume, but rather the fact that my corner men stayed in character while pumping workout bands and curling pink five-pound dumbbells for the entire walk to the Octagon.”

“Unfortunately, the UFC fans were not able to enjoy my many Halloween costumes comprised entirely of body paint such as a Ninja Turtle, Power Ranger and polar bear due to dangers associated with paint-on costumes, but I digress. My favorite fight entrance costume I have done thus far was in a regional promotion early in my fighting career. I donned full New Kids on the Block regalia and did the New Kids’ dance to ‘Hangin’ Tough.’ Any time I can emulate my hometown musical heroes is a joyous day in my life.”

Arianny Celeste:

“My favorite Halloween costume of all time was my Zombie Red Riding Hood. I wanted a cool original costume and I came up with the idea to be a sort of ‘Walking Dead’ Red Riding Hood. It was a fun costume and everywhere I went people were freaked out. It was the best Halloween ever (laughs).”

Brittney Palmer:

“My favorite costume ever was last year when I dressed up like Steven Tyler of Aerosmith!”

The Ultimate Fighter Fridays – Episode 7 Summer Camp Flash Quotes

Las Vegas, Nevada – One of the season’s most recent feuds was settled in the Octagon® on Friday as Canadian Michael Hill defeated Matt Secor with a split decision win on The Ultimate Fighter® Fridays episode seven – ‘Summer Camp’ – that aired on FX.

After a heated argument in the house, the rivals finally got to settle their differences where it matters. And the victory – the second in a row for Coach Roy Nelson’s team – ties the series at three each after six preliminary bouts. Team Nelson eradicated the previous two-win lead held by Coach Shane Carwin’s team, and it is all to play for heading into episode eight.

Hill, 25, from Kelowna, British Colombia, is the first of two Canadian contestants this year to compete in the Octagon. While a winner in his fight, the former personal trainer, who is 4-0 in his professional mixed martial arts career, was dissatisfied by his performance.

“After my fight I felt embarrassed. I felt like I let everybody down, from Dana White, to the producers, my teammates and my country. I think everyone wanted to see Matt Secor’s mouth shut. I have never ever felt that pressure or jitters before. It was like I forgot everything I’d learned to this day. I just froze.

“It’s the worst feeling ever, to know that that fight would be talked about all season, and once I got out of the house, on TV worldwide. I have so much to improve on. Every fight can’t be pretty but you do what you can to win, and one thing’s for sure I won’t ever give up.”

Fighting out of South Glen Falls, NY, Secor, 25, has always been into thrill-seeking sports, even taking up snowboarding when he was only four years old. The 3-1 MMA fighter and movie buff was disappointed but not discouraged with his TUF result.

“I felt mad because of the loss. I was mad because my hand was broken and that I got robbed. I wish that my hand didn’t break. When something like that happens in a fight it makes the fight change completely. I was trying to finish but I couldn’t use my right hand at all. The mood on Team Carwin didn’t change after my loss because obviously I won that fight, it was more that everyone was pissed at the judges than anything else.”

Glory Sports International Presents ‘DREAM 18 – Special NYE 2012’

TOKYO, Japan (Oct. 25, 2012) – TOKYO, Japan (Sept. 24, 2012) – Glory Sports International (GSI), owner and operator of the Glory World Series, announced today that it will be responsible for presenting ‘DREAM 18 – Special NYE 2012’, a New Year’s Eve MMA mega-event taking place at the Saitama Super Arena on December 31.

“We are very fond of the DREAM brand and the company’s world-class production team. The GSI team is passionate about Japanese MMA and is intent on restoring it to prominence. The DREAM 18 event on New Year’s Eve is a first step towards this goal,” states Pierre Andurand, chairman of Glory Sports International.

“New Year’s Eve is traditionally the high point of the martial arts calendar in Japan,” continues Andurand, “and DREAM has staged superb events at Saitama for the past four years. This year, GLORY will be taking over presentation of the event and you will see a better production than ever before. Fans worldwide can expect a spectacular show.”

New Year’s Eve shows at Saitama Arena have traditionally involved both MMA and kickboxing bouts and that will continue with this year’s event, entitled ‘GSI presents DREAM 18 – Special NYE 2012’. Fedor Emelianenko, Gegard Mousasi, Shinya Aoki and Joachim Hansen are a few of the MMA stars that have featured on previous New Year’s Eve shows and fans can expect a similar level from this year’s event.

A press conference was staged in Tokyo today, during which further details of the event were revealed. Mr Andurand explained that GSI is taking over and presenting the New Year’s Eve show rather than partnering with DREAM and thus the one-off event can essentially be considered part of the GSI portfolio via the company’s Japanese sub-division Glory Sports KK.

Present at today’s conference call were three Japanese fighters confirmed for New Year’s Eve. They are DREAM featherweight champion Hiroyuki Takaya, the ‘Crusher’ Tatsuya Kawajiri and the lightweight contender Satoru Kitaoka. Announcements regarding participating international fighters are expected in the coming weeks.

There will be ten MMA fights and three kickboxing matches. GSI vice-president of business development Bas Boon told the press conference that the tradition of having kickboxers fighting under MMA rules and MMA fighters competing under kickboxing rules would likely continue on this event, although participating fighters were not specified.

A media conference call is also to be held this week and will be announced separately. It will feature GSI Chairman Pierre Andurand and Managing Director Marcus Luer plus participants in the New Year’s Eve event.

New Year’s Eve will be GSI’s second visit to Japan in December.

The first will be December 2 when ‘GLORY 4 TOKYO: Heavyweight Grand Slam’ takes place at the Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Greater Tokyo. The revolutionary 16-man one-night tournament features the world’s top kickboxing heavyweights fighting through a four-stage elimination tournament for a purse of $600,000 and a grand prize of US$400,000.

Among the entrants to the tournament are World No.1 ranked heavyweight Semmy Schilt and the legendary icons Remy Bonjasky, Peter Aerts and Jerome LeBanner. Top contenders Daniel Ghita and Gokhan Saki have confirmed participation and so have knockout artists Sergei Kharitonov and Errol Zimmerman. Other entrants include rising stars such as Filip Verlinden, Anderson ‘Braddock’ Silva, Brice Guidon, Rico Verhoeven and Jamal Ben Saddik.

UFC® HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JUNIOR DOS SANTOS MEETS CAIN VELASQUEZ IN LONG-AWAITED REMATCH ON DEC. 29

Las Vegas, Nevada – On Saturday, Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the Ultimate Fighting Championship® closes 2012 with a bang, as UFC® heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos meets former champion Cain Velasquez in a long-awaited rematch between two of the sport’s hardest-hitting competitors.

Dos Santos (15-1, fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil) ended Velasquez’s reign as heavyweight champion last November, knocking out the two-time Division I All-American wrestler in the first round. Now, the 30-year-old Velasquez (9-1, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) seeks revenge in arguably the biggest rematch in UFC history.

“Cain is on a mission to get the belt back and avenge the only loss of his career,” UFC President Dana White said. “He wants to prove that he’s still the best heavyweight in the world. But Junior is one of the hardest-hitting fighters ever and he proved that by knocking out Cain and Frank Mir in back to back fights. This is the perfect fight to end 2012!”

In addition to the heavyweight title rematch, former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin meets former Division I national champion wrestler Phil Davis in a pivotal 205-pound contest. Griffin, winner of season one of The Ultimate Fighter®, defeated Tito Ortiz in a trilogy bout in July. Now he collides with Davis, who is fresh off a brilliant submission victory over Wagner Prado at UFC 153.

UFC 155 also features surging middleweight star Chris Weidman (9-0, fighting out of Mineola, N.Y.) taking on Tim Boetsch (16-4, fighting out of Sunbury, Pa.) in a fight that will push the winner toward a 185-pound title shot. Weidman scored a first-round TKO of top contender Mark Munoz, while Boetsch snapped Hector Lombard’s five-year, 20-fight winning streak by defeating the Cuban in July.

If that wasn’t enough, Gray Maynard (12-1-1, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) faces submission ace Joe Lauzon (22-7, fighting out of Bridgewater, Mass.) in a bout between two of the lightweight division’s top contenders. Maynard defeated Clay Guida in his last fight in June, while Lauzon earned another Fight of the Night award in August with a thrilling win over Jamie Varner.

Additional bouts for UFC 155 will be announced in the days to come at www.ufc.com.

Tickets for UFC® 155: DOS SANTOS vs. VELASQUEZ 2, presented by Bud Light, go on sale Friday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. PT and are priced at $800, $600, $400, $250, $125, and $75. We owe it to the fighters who have qualified, and of course to the fans around the world.”

EPISODE FIVE: ‘UNLEASH THE BEAST’ RESULT AND FLASH QUOTES

Las Vegas, Nevada – The oldest fighter in the competition, Igor Araujo, won a majority decision over the youngest, Nic Herron-Webb, on The Ultimate Fighter® Fridays episode five – “Unleash The Beast” – that aired on FX on Friday evening.

The victory – the second in a row for coach Shane Carwin’s team over coach Roy Nelson’s – gives them a 3-1 edge after four preliminary bouts.

The 6ft 3inch Araujo, aged 31, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is 22-6 in his mixed martial arts career; the 5ft 10inch Herron-Webb, 22, of Anchorage, Alaska, is 11-3.

Araujo, a father of two young children, lives in Switzerland six months of the year and has taught Brazilian jiu-jitsu at a school in Geneva since 2006. The French-speaking Araujo trains with TUF™ 14 winner, Diego Brandao, at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque. Brandao is in action at UFC 153 tomorrow night.

Araujo said: “I felt really happy because I won my fight on my son’s birthday. It was really strange fighting in the TUF gym, with Dana White watching, I felt so much pressure. I should have finished Nic, but I didn’t and I didn’t get the $5,000 bonus because of it. I respect Nic, he is a nice guy, he is young and a tough fighter, but in this situation being away from my family was my biggest opponent at that time.”

Herron-Webb , nicknamed “NAP-Time” as much for his fondness for snoozing as for his hard-hitting fighting style, said: “I was pretty disappointed after my fight. I felt like I got robbed of the chance to go to a third round. I wish I would have been more aggressive and fought harder. After my fight it felt like the team moral dropped because all of the guys on my team thought it was my fight to win and take back control for our team, so it sucked.”

Tickets for The Ultimate Fighter® Finale on Dec. 15 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas are on sale and priced at $304, $254, $179, $154, $104 and $79. DANIEL GHITA AND RICO VERHOEVEN PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO GLORY

LONDON, U.K. (Oct. 12, 2012) – World champion Daniel Ghita (44-7, 34 KO’s) of Romania and rising star and fellow heavyweight Rico Verhoeven (37-6-1, 8 KO’s) of the Netherlands have each signed a multi-fight, exclusive agreement with GLORY, the world’s premiere kickboxing league.

The 31-year-old Ghita, the last reigning heavyweight champion for It’s Showtime before the league was acquired by GLORY in June, has terrorized the division of big men with his brutal leg kick attacks that have helped earn him an astonishing 77 percent KO rate and the nickname ‘The Savage Samurai.’

The 1.95 meter (6 foot 5), 114 kilogram (251 pound) Ghita, who fights out of the Romanian capital of Bucharest, is widely regarded as the greatest challenge to Semmy Schilt’s world No. 1 heavyweight ranking.

“I decided that GLORY is the best and only logical fit for me because this is where all of the best heavyweights in the world compete,” said Ghita, who had been sought after by several other leagues. “If you want to be recognized as the best, you have to face and defeat the best and, as a true competitor, I have every intention of distinguishing myself as the No. 1 heavyweight in the world and a GLORY champion.”

“We are very excited to welcome Daniel Ghita to our highly-competitive heavyweight division,” said Marcus Luer, Managing Director of GLORY. “With the addition of Daniel, there is effectively not one top tier matchup in kickboxing’s heavyweight division that is not possible.”

While Ghita has been doing damage in the upper echelon of the heavyweight division, the 23-year-old Verhoeven, who fights out of the city of Bergen Op Zoom, has gained recognition as one of the brightest up and coming, new stars in the sport.

The 1.95 meter (6 foot 5), 114 kilogram (250 pound) Verhoeven’s record includes two wins over Hesdy Gerges, a victory over top Australian heavyweight Ben Edwards and a win over fellow GLORY heavyweight rising star Filip Verlinden.

“Verhoeven had some superb performances for It’s Showtime and it was clear, very early, that he has massive potential to become a superstar. I look forward to seeing him meet the challenges he will be faced with in the GLORY heavyweight division,” Luer remarked.

The pair are likely to make their respective debuts for the organisation at GLORY 4 Tokyo HEAVYWEIGHT Grand Slam at Makai Messe (former Nippon Convention Center) on December 2. The event will be headlined by a 16-man single-elimination tournament, which will see the winner fight four times in one night on the way to ultimate victory.

FLASH QUOTES, UFC 153: SILVA vs BONNAR

Las Vegas, Nevada – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization returns to Rio this Saturday when the world’s greatest martial artist – long-reigning UFC middleweight king Anderson “The Spider” Silva – steps up to light heavyweight to face the bigger, stronger and teak tough contender Stephan “The American Psycho” Bonnar.

The three-round special attraction is the main event of the UFC 153 Pay-Per-View, which features six fights including a heavyweight showdown between Brazilian icon “Minotauro” Nogueira and Dave Herman and a chance to see two of the most exciting new talents in the UFC – Glover Teixeira and Erick Silva – take on serious tests in Fábio Maldonado and Jon Fitch respectively.

But it is the main event which has got the mixed martial arts world talking. Silva holds Embracing his underdog role, Bonnar has vowed to give the pound-for-pound kingpin “hell” in the Octagon® on Saturday night.

Pointing out that he has never been knocked out or submitted, the Las Vegas native said: “I’m going in there to fight him, not to just go in there and think it was cool to share an Octagon with Anderson Silva. I’m going to give everything, fight my heart out, like I did in the fight with Forrest Griffin (in 2005) which changed the sport. That’s what I bring to the cage that Anderson maybe hasn’t seen too many times in his career. I’ve got to give him a fight, I’m got to get him on the back foot, rough him up, and that’s what I’m going to do.

“I’ve been hit by bigger, stronger guys and never been stopped. I mean, look at every fight I’ve ever had – I’ve been hit with lots of big shots but I get up and keep coming. Anderson is so damn good, but no-one has ever walked through me and I will keep coming at him no matter what he throws my way.”

Bonnar can be taken at his word. He is an attack-minded fighter – and seven years’ worth of statistics indicate Bonnar will go after Silva from the opening bell.

According to official stats from FightMetric, the American Psycho has landed more strikes in the Octagon than any light heavyweight in UFC history not named Tito Ortiz or Forrest Griffin, he has the fourth best takedown accuracy in the division at 44.7% and has attempted to finish fights with submissions more than any fighter in 205 pound history with the lone exception of Renato Sobral.

“I get in there any go after it,” the American Psycho said. “I don’t stall, I don’t get stood up (due to inactivity), I go out there any put it on my opponent and I am going to give Anderson Silva hell.

“Very rarely in life does a great opportunity come along for anyone. Getting the biggest shot of my career, when I had sort of retired, is kinda the story of my life. I’ve never really had the best of luck in my career. I’ve not had everything really fall into place for me. But now it really feels like all the stars are aligning just like it did on that magical night for the UFC back in 2005 when I fought Forrest Griffin for the first time.”

UFC® 153: SILVA vs. BONNAR will be available live on Pay-Per-View this Saturday at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on UFC.TV, iN DEMAND, DirecTV, DISH Network, Avail-TVN, and in Canada on BellTV, Shaw Communications, Sasktel, and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.99 US/$49.99 CAN for Standard Definition and $54.99 US/$59.99 CAN for High Definition.
